anyway todd anderson paints his nails because i said so

i know nail biting is kinda common with anxiety so i present u these:

todd get’s in trouble for biting his nails so he starts painting them, in the hope that the taste of paint will kinda snap him out of the habit

his dad doesn’t approve of the nail polish and his anxiety gets worse :0

same thing but he doesn’t stop, he just paints them clear :) until neil and the poets notice and buy him a bunch of colorful nail polish and they all learn (except charlie, cuz obviously he’d already know) (him and todd teach the other poets)

his dad either doesn’t notice or care or idk is dead i dont know

but anyway

todd grows his nails out a bit, just a little so his fingers look even nicer, and paints them pretty colors and spends a lot of time, at first he still bites them but he slowly works it off and yeah

neil loves them and loves watch todd paint them - he gets distracted by todd’s hands a lot lmao,, whenever todd gets shy about them, neil encourages him - he definitely learns how to paint them - and he definitely occasionally paints todd’s nails for him - especially after it stops being something todd mainly uses for his anxiety and becomes somethings he just likes

during a poet meeting, meeks brings nail polish and demands todd paints his nails :D todd takes a second to realize he’s being genuine and kinda lights up and it becomes a habit to see meeks have a different nail color every week

chris likes painting her nails too so knox asks todd to teach him too to impress her ! eventually he kinda likes it though he doesn’t paint his own nails. He paints chris’ all the time and if todd looks anxious he’ll totally let him paint his nails hoping it’ll calm him

cameron doesn’t care much about it but when he sees a particularly nice color at a store, he buys it for todd. he gives occasional comments about it so todd knows he likes them or at least isn’t being an asshole about them, so like, “woah todd that shade of blue looks nice on you” or “oh u did multi colors today” and yeah

pitts doesnt care that much about nails either but it seems to make todd less anxious and todd likes it so he distracts todd when he’s having a bad day by asking him for tips and carries around a bottle of polish for todd - so that if he’s fidgeting and uncomfortable, pitts can ask him to paint his nails until he’s a little calmer - sometimes it takes a few nails and sometimes it doesn’t help at all, but todd appreciates the effort

and charlie and todd totally just sit around doing nails because they both can - they teach neil -- or well todd teaches neil while charlie teases them but yeah - anyway yeah, todd and charlie do their nails together for fun and borrow each other’s nail polish and yeah

the teachers notice but one day one of them tell todd he can’t wear it and the next day everyone comes in with painted nails (including keating) so they let it go

nolan finds out but again when he calls the poets out, every one protests in the same way (this time including all the teachers)

it doesn’t make his anxiety go away, obviously, but he does stop biting his nails and his friends being so supportive about something silly like painted nails does make him feel very nice :D

i’d say probably an 8. keith definitely seems like the broody touch-starved type whos actually very sensitive but you wont know until he lets you get close.

neck, lower back, and the just below his ribs. all very specific places that will get you a broken hand if you try to touch there.

which spots are they not ticklish?

sorry folks, keith isn’t all that ticklish on his sides or hips, which are some pretty common places to be sensitive. you might get some giggles if you catch him by surprise and tickle him in those places, but nothing of significance and you bet your ass he’s going to retaliate

what is their laugh like?

it’s higher in pitch than someone might expect looking at him, but you sort of get it once you hear his voice, cause the man aint all that deep. it’s still cute though, and he gets choked up and wheezes sometimes when he laughs too hard since he hasnt had all that much to laugh about growing up, so its foreign to him ):

do they enjoy tickling? if yes, is it a fun platonic/familial thing, or kinky thing to them, or can it be both depending on the circumstance?

to a degree, yes. it depends on the person, and you’d better be close to him if you’re tickling him, because you can and will get hurt if you arent. if you’re his lover, chances are, it’s gonna be considered both a wholesome, platonic thing and a bedroom thing, dependent on the situation

are they more often a lee or ler, generally?

i definitely feel like its both, but keith can give off some serious ler energy. remember that scene when allura snapped a spoonful of food goo and got pidge in the face, and not even seconds later, keith growls out a “go loose, pidge!” and flips that shit right back at A PRINCESS? shit gave me chills and yall cant look me in the eyes and tell me that man wouldn’t WRECK YOUR SHIT if he wanted to

who is someone in their life that they tickle often?

he probably doesn’t initiate tickle fights often because a) he’s very ticklish himself and b) he has a problem with vulnerability. those issues get better though and once keith gets closer to the others, tickle fights deffo become more of a thing and yes, lance is definitely always a consistent target because that boy mouth be runnin marathons. sometimes keith goes after shiro, but mans quickly regrets that one LMAO

who is someone in their life that they get tickled by often?

shiro is a terrifyingly good tickler and adam could attest to that. chris can also attest to that. keith had to deal with some real ticklish nightmares as a kid growing up with shiro, and even after he became an adult and found shiro again, that didn’t stop. lessened a little bit sure, but if shiro needed to make keith feel better or punish him for being the brat he is, he knew what to do

does the word “tickle” or any variation of embarrass them?

if hes the lee in the situation, then yes it does. if hes the ler, then he will absolutely use it against whoever hes tickling and has no problem saying it, hes simply that bitch sometimes

are they embarrassed about their ticklishness, and do they try to deny/hide it?

not so much embarrassed, he just knows that he would be a target for constant tickle attacks if the people around him found out about his ticklish secret. so yes, he does deny it/hide it and will go into fight or flight if you start teasing him about it.

would gentle tickling or rough tickling affect them more?

being a warrior, keith is definitely used to harsher things and with all the training he’s always doing, i wouldn’t be surprised if you needed to dig in there to really get him howling if thats what you want. but i feel like, gentle tickling would not only affect him physically, but also mentally and emotionally, and it would be such a sight seeing him melt like that

is there a specific spot that they enjoy being tickled, either exclusively or more than other spots? what is it?

if you’re his lover, keith is actually partial to having his lower back tickled. soft, little strokes can be soothing to him and lull him right to sleep. and, on the other side of the coin, full blown tickles on his back just feel good in a different sort of way (:< if you’re just a friend, don’t tickle him -- thats what he prefers LMAO

nah, he wouldn’t. he’s not big on asking for tickles for himself, even when hes feeling touch-starved; theres nicer, less embarrassing ways to curb that craving for touch, so, the other person would have to decide to tickle him of their own accord

yes, no matter whether hes lee or ler. as a lee, teasing embarrasses him and he acts out because of it, and will definitely become more sensitive because of it. when he’s a ler, good fucking luck to the lee, because his teasing as a ler is so AWFUL. he’s the why are you laughing, im not even doing anything to you type of ler, the oh, not here? how about here type of ler, the mock laughter and pleading type of ler. mans is pure evil when hes a ler and if you’re a cute lee, he gets even WORSE

I’ve placed a whole bunch of things down for this one. You guys wanted general, so until I could hone in on something, I had to just test the waters on all things. (I’m not following him so I don��t know what’s going on at all) if you guys notice something in this reading that you think could be symbolism for something you actually know of in his life, let me know! :)

I was asked for General, how he feels about relationships, how he feels about marriage, career? And love life.

1. I put down Chris

2. Being in a relationship” second. BIAR Wanted to be in front of Chris, Chris also wanted it there

3. Career was confused where to go, Being in a relationship was in the way. Career decided it’s gonna jam itself between them. (Already this is super telling.)

4. Being Single - single was attached to career, it wanted to stay with career it wouldn’t move elsewhere

5. Family are right behind Chris, (good that’s where they should be. Doesn’t look like any animosity atm)

6. Strangely, marriage wanted to be in front of in a relationship……..? That’s gonna be a fun one to figure out.

7. “Having kids” is behind him, past family and on the left (it’s the furthest placement away so far”

Chris is staring ahead at Career, single, BIAR and single. They’re all in a line.

Chris is staring straight at career. I can’t feel anything from him besides the fact that this big brick wall called a career is in front of him. I see nothing past that. “Single” though, rather than seeming as big as career, seems to represent itself as a little flag thats just been pressed into the side of the brick wall, single isnt giving me any feeling either.

That being said, the career brick wall is not intimidating. It’s just more like he’s looking up at it like, “huh. Big guy” he has the need to climb over it.

Yeah, listen this wall is a wall but he’s not trying duck his head to the side and see past it, he just has the need to jump over this brick wall. The wall is maybe 7 foot tall, so in comparison to himself and how big he feels in this scenario (he feels his normal 6 foot self) he absolutely could. But it’s just interesting that what I’m seeing/feeling is a brick wall that’s like 5 foot in length and yet he has no desire to just bypass it and go to the side, he wants to climb the fucking thing?

Chris stans, tell me what the HELL that is about. You know him better than I. Does he like the competition or accomplishment? Does he feel he needs to prove himself the hard way?

Anyway, he’s pretty confident he can jump this wall. And single is not even a thing to him in its current position.

He’s thinking very hard about how to jump this wall. Like he knows how, you lift yourself up and jump over it I can see that image in my head very easy, but he’s struggling to actually DO it?

Nope, ok he doesn’t want to.

He knows he can jump it, he knows it’s blocking everything else, but I go to take an action for him and he’s like “nah I’m good tho”

Seems a fitting time to put in “anxiety.”

I laughed out loud when I had to place anxiety. Take a wild guess where it felt it needed to be?

You bet chya, it’s on the wall.

And then it couldn’t make up its mind. Officially I’ve placed it on the wall together with “single” and “career” but the energy for anxiety is actually that’s it’s jumping in front of the wall, to on the wall, to behind the wall and it keeps doing that. Just back and forth.

Makes total sense as to why he can’t cross this wall.

Now that anxiety is there he doesn’t want to look in its direction at all.

He’s gotten a bit warm and a bit of a headache too now, and a bit dizzy. The headache is real present.

The good news is in these situations where someone can’t move due to anxiety or otherwise, it’s always a good time to place supports, so the person can feel supported to do the thing they want and move forward. Luckily, his family are already placed behind him, they seem to really love him, so it’s just about me utilising that now.

This part I’m going to do more privately (as in I won’t type it) cause this would be a personal thing (maybe even generational thing) that he needs to move through with his family in order for them to feel that support. His anxiety didn’t come from nowhere. That being said I’m also not going to do a whole ass constellation with him cause 1. He’s not here and 2. It would take hours.

All I’ll say is his mum is a MASSIVE support for him, and also……. 😬 kinda swamping him a bit. He doesn’t mind it, it’s actually very comforted, but she truly is just physically in this reading SWAMPING him. An outsider could see that she’s maybe a bit too involved with his life.. which isn’t great for a fully grown man. But, he finds it comforting, what are ya gonna do. Clearly he doesn’t want it to end… :/

(For reading purposes So it’s not just jumping, I took about 5 minutes with him and his family to help move past anxiety, his family love the crap out of the guy it’s real cute.)

What Career feels in relation to CE:

Very big, bulky, serious. Reminds me a bit of Wilson Fisk from into the spider verse. Just very big, bulky, serious a bit of a bully. Not gonna move. You’re gonna do what I tell you. Restrictive. That kind of energy. It doesn’t HATE him, but it has rules. And Chris is gonna follow them. (That’s a threat) it also feels like within career is actually a powerful male that kinda owns his ass? Not sure who that could be, once again CE stans, gimme the tea.

For the next part I might… get in trouble. I know that when it comes to the talk of relationships no one likes to hear it. Don’t kill the messenger here you guys:

he has his back TURNED from “single”

I could encourage him to look everywhich other way for any other representative, but single? Back turned.

Doesn’t wanna look at it.

Single on the other hand is kinda looking at him like a little kid like :) hi Chris look pls. Chris! Pls :) Chris look at me Chris pls :) Chrissy! Take a look!

For whatever reason “single” in this reading is feeling very adolescent. Maybe he feels that being single isn’t a grown up thing to do anymore? (I forgot to mention, the things in the field take on the energy of the person it’s focused on, not necessarily how it is perceived by EVERYONE in the world, only how it’s perceived or how it acts in relation to the client. Single to ME might be a knight in shining armor that protects me, Single to Chris seems adolescent.

So, Chris is looking at both “marriage” and “being in a relationship” he’s not feeling particularly drawn towards either, but he is giving a lot more attention to “being in a relationship” than marriage.

Which is weird, cause if you don’t want single, yet you don’t want relationship, what do you want?

I have now brought in “situationship” “flirting w/ someone” and “fwb”

situationship is closest, but doesn’t have his full attention, as it’s to the left side of him at an Angle. FWB is just behind situationship but more aligned to be in front of his eyesight, and flirting with someone is on the right from him, at an angle and is the furthest of the three.

Ok, FWB feels the most comfortable for him, he actually took a step towards it. He’s not feeling super fond of any of the three in any way, but FWB is nice it’s comforting, he’s.. semi happy? It’s not even really happy… it’s just like “doing ok!This is ok! This is comfortable.”

He’s side eyeing the shit out of “situationship” though and is anxious at how close it is. He doesn’t actually want the situationship there, but it’s close now and it’s not moving, and he’s having a bit of anxiety about it. He can’t stop looking at it though. FWB is immediate comfort, situationship is SO ANXIETY INDUCING but it’s also more interesting to look at?

(Chris get therapy 🙄)

Flirting with someone is out of the picture, been there, done that doesn’t care about it. (Could be that he’s already gone through the flirting stage with someone that’s why it’s of no interest to him)

Now that he’s finding situationship more interesting, he’s looking past FWB and to “being in a relationship” which he also finds nicer to look at. The thought coming up is “that would be nice” but in a wistful way.

Marriage is still right out, we’re not looking at marriage.

I’m gonna move relationship closer to situationship to see if he feels better or worse.

Lmao ok, I put them both together and imagined situation ship and relationship being close, like they’re holding hands. In his mind, situationship is a cute little brunette that’s like 5’4 and “being in a relationship” is built like an Amazonian 6’5 goddess and he’s both in awe, yet intimidated a bit, but also not hating it, but the only thought that came up was “ahhhhh…. Fuck.”

Two thoughts came up but they both got crossed out before he could finish it.

And now he just keeps hesitantly saying relationship over and over again but he’s saying it like he’s brand new to the word, like he’s trying to find the word for the word - yet he’s already speaking it??

Sat with this for a while and didn’t have much movement so time to move to:

He’s hesitant? Like he’s not sure. That word doesn’t seem to fit what he’s up to atm. He seems very confused about what he’s in.

Just…. One… (not sure why he was hesitant about telling me, but I feel like I’m starting to cross on something I’m not meant to talk about, so I’m ending it here. If he wants to keep it to himself, he is absolutely in his right to do so)

I will say when He said just one, a person did show up: brown hair, she’s shorter than him (but that’s obvious) and she’s slender and kinda perky. When I see her she looks like she’s fun! I saw her dancing around a bit. I liked her energy.

Ohhhh my gosh where to start.

Honestly I'm just gonna talk about my favorite characters and why I like them, and also the problems I have with them

It'll be under the cut, for those who don't care lol

Gonna start with Rebecca because she's the fave that I have the most issues with. I really like her character, she's smart, she's strong, she's a good fighter, and she's witty, and for all of those reasons she's fun to watch and play as. My issues with her are that Capcom has absolutely no clue what to do with her. She's a side character in the first game that doesn't get to do much except get told to stay out of the way, in her own game, RE0, she's literally the main character but ends up feeling like a supporting character for Billy's arc, and holy fuck is she nerfed in Vendetta. She has that scene at the school making the antidote in the lab, and has a good scene where she fights off some zombies before hiding and getting rescued. She tells Chris what she knows and they go find Leon before she gets kidnapped and gets to do absolutely nothing else for the rest of the film. She's a damsel in distress, is almost forced to marry the villain because she looks like his fridged wife, and is infected with the virus and rendered immobile until Chris and Leon rescue her. Like that entire scene she's just sitting on the table writhing and moaning makes me so uncomfortable. Capcom made a great character, they just didn't know what to do with her (and apparently STILL DON'T considering she's not even in Welcome to Raccoon City) Also, can she not be older? It's impressive that she graduated from college at 18, it shows her incredible intellect, but that doesn't mean she has to be 18 in the first game, does it? Can she not be more adult-like? Idk

Next is Claire. Claire is great! Claire I have less issues with, considering the franchise has been nicer to her character recently. Obviously the peak of her character was in the RE2 remake, but she had other great moments too, I liked her a lot in the darkside chronicles, but also like Rebecca, it seems like the game doesn't always know how to use her character, or end up sidlining her for the male characters. Example, Code Veronica, she's fine, but she's way too broken up about Steve imo (maybe I just hate him) and once she's reunited with Chris she's kind of a player 2 to him. And in Revelations 2 she's kind of just a catalyst for change in Moira. And holy fuck don't get me started on how nerfed she was in Infinite Darkness. She is TOTALLY the B story to Leon's A story and even has her damsel in distress moment with the acid. I liked the ending of ID and I liked the story but I just wish there'd been more Claire.

Leon is fine, I love his character arc from RE2 to Vendetta and all the bits in between, I just think because he's so popular it gets exhausting lmao like Capcom knows how popular he is so they milk it for all it's worth and with there being so many fans there's obviously going to be a lot that I don't like/don't agree with. That's probably splitting hairs though, I do think he's the best-written and best handled RE character Capcom has by far

Jill Valentine my sweet summer child you deserve so much better. She's never been overly sexualized (if you don't count whatever the fuck was going on in RE5) which like. The bar is on the floor but something about Capcom's treatment of her character always kind of rubbed me the wrong way. The character herself is fantastic, do NOT get me wrong, I just wish Capcom had done things differently like not make her version of the RE1 playthrough "easy" mode or not incapacitated her for days in RE3 making her totally useless (not that I don't mind playing as Carlos, mind you) her popularity is well earned, I wish there was less fanart that sexualized her but whatever, and I love her friendship with Chris, definitely one of my top 3 platonic RE relationships.

Chris needs to stop being in so much RE content or I'm gonna go insane. There rlly was no reason to include him in RE7 other than to connect it more to the other games, but his "not a hero" dlc is pretty alright. Obviously his inclusion in 7 led to his role in 8 and oh my g-d I cannot forgive that ridiculous plot point of not telling Ethan about Miranda impersonating his wife. It's so dumb. His rivalry with Wesker never felt earned, but it was always entertaining to see. His rivalry with Arias was fucking stupid and completely unearned (I know they only had one movie to make it happen but still. I love that movie and hate it all at once) Also RE5 is unforgivable except for giving us Sheva so y'know Chris is a mixed bag for me.

Ada is a great character that gets treated like absolute shit. I love morally grey characters, and Ada is a great example of one, and the fandom almost always ruins her somehow, or Capcom finds ways to use her that I typically just personally don't like (like honestly that Ada clone shit in RE6 is ridiculous and totally unnecessary) She's done fantastically in RE2 remake which I love, and I'm honestly glad Capcom somewhat knew to pull the reigns when it came to the idea to have her in RE8 that was ultimately scrapped (it would've made no sense, it was ridiculous, I would not have liked it) so Ada is also another mixed bag for me. I also wish she had more of a connection to this stuff than (for the most part) Leon. Her mission doesn't always involve him, but she's only ever really there when he is, and it irks me.

Ethan Winters sucks and I don't like him and don't care about him and the whole RE7&8 fandom is wrong for liking them and yes that includes my boyfriend

Sorry about that. He's a fine character, he's a protagonist you wanna root for, especially in 8, but man do he and his story get on my nerves.

Alcina was just fanservice and gamerbait and for that reason I can't bring myself to like her, sorry guys. Same goes for Heisenberg even though he was less fanservice-y and a little more interesting than Alcina

TFW when you try to do Anastasia but you also suck at your job: A Master Class by The Rise of Skywalker

Okay. So, I promised you guys a TROS review, and it’s coming, I promise… except I’ll be making two “spin-off posts” about specific issues just in order to clear up some stuff, mainly because in my mind, those issues are important.

First post is going to be, of course, about Rey’s parentage.

So. After TFA, it would have been possible for Rey to have been the kid of “someone”. However, TLJ made it impossible to do so, unless you’d have some serious, bullshit retconning going on – which is exactly what happened.

I know this is a VERY controversial thing to say at this point, but post-TFA, Rey Palpatine “could” have been possible. Okay, maybe not have her be Palpatine’s granddaughter, but more of a descendant of his.

This said, I “tried” making an origin story for Rey Palpatine that “works” for the purposes of this meta, on a hypothetical basis, while making it consistent with canon (something JJ Abrams and Chris Terrio clearly couldn’t be bothered to do, LMAO). I had plotholes no matter what. I do think I could have eventually found something with a little bit of brainstorming, but truth is, IT’S HARD, and a lot of exposition would have been for novels/comics only.

From a thematic perspective, though? It wouldn’t have been a bad idea. For this to work, though, you would have needed to go on full-blown Romeo and Juliet mode with sprinkles of Anastasia, though. I mean, The Lion King 2 did something similar, so why the fuck not. Because, yeah, Ben Solo, the grandson of Darth Vader, son of Han Solo and Leia Organa, the last prince of Alderaan, who falls in love with the last Imperial princess Rey Palpatine while they’re on opposite sides of the war but not the ones you’d think of is the stuff of fairy tales and star-crossed romances, except this one would have a happy ending and brought peace to the galaxy.

Truth be told, I still really enjoy fanfics who go for that story and find a way to make it work in canonverse or in AUs – because it’s genuinely fun. But in canon itself, as I point out earlier… it’s not easy.

So, we have Rian Johnson who said he made a list of potential origins for Rey while he was working on TLJ’s script. You bet Rey Palpatine was on that list. However, he came to the conclusion that Rey Nobody was the best way to go, and whatdyaknow, he made the right call.

Why? Rey Nobody requires minimal exposition. Storytelling-wise, you don’t have a lot of brainstorming to do, and it’s easy to have Ben revealing it, and easy to present it as a repressed memory of Rey’s. On a thematic level, that puts Rey on the same level as Jane Eyre or the main character from Rebecca: she’s a nobody from nowhere who is thrown into a family drama, and since she’s the glitch in the matrix, she must stop the story from becoming a tragedy.

See? Simple. You got your easy exposition, you got your thematic coherence, and you got the literary call-backs.

So, JJ and Terrio decided to retcon this shit because, as they said, they thought it was boring. I think Colin Trevorrow probably thought it was boring too, because I have my reasons to think a lot of TROS is from him (but more on that in my main review). But thing is, it’s not it’s “boring”, it’s literally that they didn’t know what the fuck to do with Rey. No, more than that, they don’t understand her, and frankly, they can’t be bothered to do so. She’s an empty vessel they can toy with at their ease, and in the process, turn her in a Mary-Sue. Because yes, TROS!Rey was a Mary-Sue, whereas TFA/TLJ!Rey was not. So, what I say above regarding Rey might be a bomb for some, considering how people are (understandably) defensive when it comes to that statement. I promise I will elaborate more about it in the main review, once again.

So, with the lineage aspect addressed, it’s time to talk about Rey’s parents themselves.

It’s hilarious how HARD JJ and Terrio tried to make Kylo’s explanation work – because as much as they butchered the shit out of him, they said: “Well he’s a bad liar, right? Gotta keep that in mind.”

Although, I don’t think it was a case of them being concerned with Kylo’s characterization – they’re not that graceful. They had to figure out QUICK why the hell Kylo wouldn’t have known Rey was a Palpatine from the get-go, because the Force is a great DNA test and shit, and I guess that’s how Palps located Ben’s Mighty Skywalker Blood™. Except that still doesn’t work because Palps couldn’t even locate his own goddamn granddaughter, but I digress.

Seriously, why would Kylo lie to Rey about her being a nobody instead of her being a Palpatine? It makes no sense, because if you’re going to roll with the theory Kylo just wants UNLIMITED POWAH, the Palpatine princess is not only a great asset (since marrying her legitimizes your claim to the throne in the eyes of the Imperial Remnants, I mean, that’s literally why Henry VII married Elizabeth of York), it’s also the one argument she needs to hear in order to sway her to your side. So I guess JJ and Terrio’s one shared brain cell kinda flicked a bit at that moment.

This said, getting the Palpatine princess on his side is clearly Kylo’s intention in TROS (which, again, makes no sense with what was set up in TLJ but that’s something I’m keeping for another post), except they trip all over themselves by having Kylo say he didn’t lie to Rey in TLJ. Except…

So, what Ben said in TLJ was the following:

Her parents sold her for drinking money.

They’re dead and buried in a pauper’s grave somewhere on Jakku.

Rey is related to no one.

Here’s what Ben reveals to Rey in TROS:

Her parents sold her for her protection.

They died on another planet, while being hunted down by a guy working for Palpatine and instructed to bring Rey back to them.

Rey’s dad is a Palpatine and Rey’s mom is Villanelle (nah, for real: the actress who plays Rey’s mom is Jodie Comer).

So, um, yeah, it’s the EXACT opposite of what Ben said in TLJ. Just say Palps was fucking with Ben’s mind-reading or Rey’s memories instead, JJ. Not that “Oh Ben was telling the truth, but he didn’t have the whole story”, because that’s not it.

For the latter, once again, it would have been feasible: the one thing, for me, that was possible to be added was that Rey had killed her parents accidentally, by having their ship to leave Jakku crash down with the Force: that’s what made her Force powers go dormant for all those years and provoked her trauma. It would also make sense that Ben would willfully not bring that back to her memories, because she’d understandably not be able to cope with the truth, which is often what happens to a lot of trauma victims. THAT was the theory I had pre-TROS, because that’s the only answer I could come up with when it came to JJ saying that there was more to Rey’s past. I guess I expected JJ to be, like, actually able to write, lmao.

I even wonder if that was actually in the cards, considering we see Rey in TROS bringing down a transport that supposedly has Chewie in it… but I guess they deemed that to be “too dark” for their heroine. Except the bullshit that comes instead is actually… much worse.

To make things simple, I’ll just take the above points and develop them.

Rey’s parents sold her for her protection.

Okay, so, Rey’s parents need to hide her to make sure Palps doesn’t get his hands on her. Fair enough. This said, why did it have to be Jakku and not, like, ANYWHERE ELSE? Especially that Palpatine had interest in Jakku at some point and that maybe having Rey anywhere close to that place would not be a good idea?

But let’s play the game and say that Jakku is the only place they can hide her because… I don’t know, it’s hard to find someone there with the Force. Whatever. Even then, why the fuck would they think Unkar Plutt is a proper guardian for a tiny little girl? You know they could have walked a few miles more and found a nice old man who likes the Light Side of the Force and the Jedi and all that shit called Lor San Tekka? Hey, why not even try to find a guy like Luke Skywalker who’s like, a Jedi and shit, and have him take care of their little girl and protect her?

Even then, why the hell doesn’t Rey’s mom stay with her daughter? Her husband is the Palpatine, not her. All Rey’s mom has to do is find a nicer hiding place for her and Rey somewhere on Jakku, like, not Niima Outpost (again, Tuanul is just a few miles away), and just let Dad hide somewhere else. He’s a grownass man, he can take care of himself and he just has to hide on Nar Shaadaa or some shit. Fuck, why don’t all three of them hide on Nar Shaadaa? Or in the Coruscant undercity? ANYWHERE ELSE?

Also, wouldn’t Plutt clearly see two desperate parents as a business opportunity? Like, if you want to do a Les Misérables comparison here, he wouldn’t “buy” Rey from them, he’d try to get money for them à la Thénardier with Fantine. Except Rey’s parents make Fantine look like frigging Einstein because at least she had the excuse of thinking Madame Thénardier would take good care of Cosette since Éponine and Azelma seemed well-cared for.

Again, a creepy-looking alien who exploits the outpost’s inhabitants for portions in exchange for junk, who asks you to pay him to take care of your kid should be a big fucking red flag – unless you want to involve blackmail, but that’s a whole other can of worms.

Seriously, why the hell would Rey’s parents even ACCEPT money that comes from selling their own child? Were they really that desperate? Fuck, even if I had no other way of getting off Jakku, I wouldn’t even THINK of using money that comes from selling my own child. Any parent who’d even CONSIDER doing that is automatically a godawful parent in my book. Shame on you. And shame on JJ for trying to make me buy them as saints, because THEY’RE NOT, JUST BY THAT SINGLE ACTION.

I didn’t notice it until Jenny Nicholson pointed it out in her TROS review, because it SOMEHOW completely escaped my notice, but… Rey’s mom saying Rey is DEFINITELY NOT on Jakku is like the worst fucking lie I’ve ever seen in a film because it’s so hilariously bad. Congratulations, Space Villanelle, may you be forever remembered for this line.

Also, it’s stupid af that Oshi (that’s his name, right? Can’t be bothered to Google it, might just call him Barney the Bounty Hunter from now on) just kills Rey’s parents, because HE’S EVUL MUAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA, because he literally creates a dead end for himself. He still has no fucking clue where Rey is, and he just killed off his only leads. CONGRATULATIONS BARNEY THE BOUNTY HUNTER, YOU SUCK AT YOUR JOB.

Rey’s dad is a Palpatine and Rey’s mom is Villanelle.

So, Rey’s dad looks like he’s in his early thirties at most, right? Maybe a little younger than Luke and Leia, then. So, unless he got frozen in carbonite at some point, that means Palpatine fucked at some point while looking like this:

Anyway, I sure hope Sly Moore was Grandma Palpatine because she’s pretty much the only person who’d be game to smash raisin ass. Which leaves me with extremely disturbing pictures of Palps and Sly having sex, so I’ll spare you the more graphic details of my twisted mind that’s screaming for an end to this misery.

I sure hope having Rey’s mom as Jodie Comer isn’t a clue that we’ll get spin-offs with those two (GOD PLEASE NO), but while I crack jokes about how Rey’s mom is Villanelle and Palpadad kinda looks like Ramsay Bolton… I find it fucking hilarious they dressed Rey’s mom in BLUE. LIKE, SEE? SEE? SHE’S IN BLUE, LIKE THE VIRGIN MARY, BECAUSE REY IS SPACE JESUS!!!! GET IT??? GETIT???? PLEASE TELL ME YA GET IT, OKAY???? *gross sobbing* I knew we should have had Rey born in a manger, that would have made the artistic intentions clear *wipes tear*

All right. There’s a lot more that could be said about Rey’s lineage, but I’m keeping that for my main review because what’s left to say ties up to the bigger picture. What I tried to point out with this preliminary post is that while Rey Palpatine *could* have worked, in different circumstances, it couldn’t have had post-TLJ… and we’re left to see a mutilated horse who was dead on arrival. And that’s tragic.

shooby is my baby!!! so far my favorite moments have been being able to watch joey’s character growth. for some reason the moment that comes to mind is his chat with chris in the hot tub - for some reason i didn’t expect such kindness out of him? idk, i really love to see it. when i started out i thought he was a total tool so i’m just loving seeing him be nicer and nicer!

honestly basically anything shubham does is aww-worthy, he’s just so KIND and innocent. when they were all doing the celebrity trivia i loved how excited he was to come thru with the superhero knowledge lmao. he’s just precious and honest and like... it feels refreshing to see him among everyone else acting like assholes to each other and dragging one another anonymously in circle chat haha

I'm not here to make absolute statements but I know everyone (myself included) are leaning towards PR with Lily/Chris. I'm just confused by how much it's now being disregarded (Chris in an USA Today article mentioned he was in London for interviews) that Chris went out of his way to follow Lily's BFFs on IG. It can't just be for show because he'd make more of an effort. Even Gemma likes/comments on his IG so they had to have met?

I appreciate you making it clear you're not making an absolute statement! Cause honestly, I've said it before and I'll say it again-we don't know shit. In which (Y/N) is an aspiring director/producer whose mother and father are a director and producer respectively. And did we mention that they own what’s possibly the biggest production company on the planet?

General Headcanons:

you’ve got a squad of your own, and the ages are practically identical with the guys’ ages. except for the part where you’re born in 2000 and not 2001, unlike Erick. and your squad has twins, they don’t.

each member of your group has like this persona that everyone associates with said member.

the oldest of your group is Elodie Bauer, who isn’t really the most mature person, but damn if she can’t throw a party. it’s kind of why everyone calls her the Party Animal.

then there are the twins, Kiana and Kiara Mirren, whose parents just so happen to own the biggest talent agency in the Western hemisphere. between the two of them, Kiara is much more quiet and demure, though she has a reputation for being unpredictable, hence her reputation as the Wildcard. unlike her twin, Kiana is a creature of habit, and one of them includes being the mom friend. for a while, you all considered referring her to as such, but it didn't quite sit right. Sweetheart, on the other hand, did.

the second youngest is Alexandria Roxas, a half-Filipino whose family belongs to a successful line of celebrity entrepreneurs. with her flair for the dramatics, everyone took to calling her Drama Queen, something she takes as a compliment despite the obvious negative connotations.

finally, there’s you, (Y/N) (L/N), and your parents own a production company known for hugely successful films, be they foreign or not. as you aspire to be a producer and director, you picked up quite a few tricks, especially in editing, but this isn’t where your greatest asset lies. despite being the youngest of your group, your professionalism and maturity are second to no one in your age range, earning you the title of Girlboss.

How You Met:

you first met the guys on the set of Reggaeton Lento Remix, when Jade came over to meet them while they (CNCO) shot their parts of the music video.

honestly you were just there to grab the footage so you could start editing

but then they weren’t done yet so you just went to a corner and started editing the footage you did have

like after you introduced yourself to them, the director told you that they weren’t done filming so you just went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ before plopping down in a corner

the guys were kinda weirded out/intimidated bc you sounded hella professional even if you looked like you were Erick’s age

but it lowkey didn’t stop Chris and Erick from tossing a few flirty comments your way

and then when they were done you introduced yourself again but in a nicer and chiller way

Before: “(Y/N) (L/N), I’ll be editing the video and splicing the footage together.”

After: “Hi, I’m (Y/N), and I’m really excited to work with you guys!”

the difference was staggering

plus you wound up as a translator of sorts that day because GOOD LORD JADE’S ACCENT IS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND EVEN IF YOUR FIRST LANGUAGE IS ENGLISH

not that you minded, you had a Spanish test the next day and it really brushed up your skills so yaaaaaayyyy

still, they were all kinda shookt af when they found out you were just a year older than Erick

so you shuffled up to him and was like “Um, sorry to bother you but... Where’s the bathroom?”

and sometimes, if you’re in the same area, you end up babysitting Aaliyah

not that you were complaining ofc, it’s like studying for a test!

anyway after that you kinda stuck with them for a bit if only to help them understand what Jade was saying

you might have bumped into Zabdiel a couple of times

and that’s when you learned he’s actually a bit of a gentle giant

so yaaaayyyy

tbh you thought he was the oldest; he seemed the most mature of them

he’s definitely the first one outside of your own squad that you contact when you need help

he’s brotherly like that

gives great advice to you

and you lend a listening ear when he needs to let off some steam so it’s a symbiotic relationship you two have

honestly, your relationship with him can be described with one phrase: sass-offs.

but it wasn’t like that in the beginning

you and Joelito were pretty shy towards one another

UNTIL he saw you going through puppy pictures while you waited for the footage to render

and then you two talked/fawned over puppies in your corner

damn he spent most of his break there

so when Jade roped you into the conversation you didn’t really feel too awkward

but when Joel left the awkwardness came back

it was a pleasant surprise for you and him that you managed to get comfortable with Erick and Zabdiel, even if you were on translator duty that time

bear in mind that at this point both of you thought the other was a little cinnamon roll

but when dinner rolled around, he had to reevaluate his opinion of you because goddamn you didn’t hold back

every time you were about to spill the tea or roast someone, you would calmly sip your iced tea before speaking

It’s a vid conference with CNCO and Little Mix where you send the video to them and let them watch it while you wait for their opinions. They all love it, of course, but the girls have worked with you before and know what you did.

Hii how do you think Martin’s trial had an effect on the whitly’s? (Jessica ainsley malcolm?) Like how do you think they handled the situation? (Thinking that in the end he wasn’t really imprisoned but put in st claremont psychiatric)

great question! I’m super excited for prodigal son to explore the legal side of martin’s conviction bc rn…it’s kind of confusing lol. I first assumed that martin used his connections in the government and legal system to strike a plea deal; if he plead guilty, they’d declare him mentally unfit to stand trial and let him serve his life sentence in a psychiatric hospital rather than in prison. but now we know there was a trial, so I’m assuming he was found not guilty by reason of insanity and that’s why he was sent to claremount (which is VERY hard to do and I have trouble believing a jury would give that verdict to someone who killed 23 people and terrorized NYC for years, regardless of whether or not martin actually fits the definition of legally insane). or there’s some like TV twist ™ and he got a deal after being found guilty that let him stay in a psychiatric hospital rather than prison. the podcast also states martin “brings in money” for claremont by doing medical consultants over the phone which stretches my suspension of disbelief to the max but wtv he’s rich and white, so that also might be a reason he avoided prison. either way, I doubt the NYC public were happy with the sentence, especially since his cell has just gotten nicer over time lmao.

as to the effect on the family, obviously it was not a good time for anyone. a case like this would take months to reach trial (I’m thinking 6 or more, basing this off the OJ simpson trial, which started about 6 months after his arrest, since chris and sam have referenced that case when talking about martin’s trial). the trial also probably lasted for a long time (the simpson trial lasted from january to october) and jessica didn’t attended any of it. she might have been asked to be a witness but I feel like she would refuse to even be in the same room as martin by then and the prosecution could prove their case without her so she never was subpoenaed. malcolm on the other hand…I’m guessing had to testify. idk if that’s the direction the show is going to take bc I feel like if he did testify at trial it would have been brought up by now (talk about being retraumatized) but in my headcanon for now, he at least was called to testify about his 911 call. it just would have SO much drama potential; gil trying to fight against malcolm having to take the stand bc the kid went through enough already, jessica still not being able to be inside the courtroom bc she didn’t want to see martin but waiting in the lobby terrified the entire time malcolm was on the stand, martin telling his lawyer to go easy on his son during cross examination but his lawyer saying fuck that and martin standing up and screaming at him half way through it, malcolm shutting down again like when shannon interrogated him just the Angst ™.

and even if none of them were directly involved with the trial, it still was probably some of the worst months of their lives. it was the trial of the century, the GP hates the entire whitly family, the press never leaves them alone, malcolm is already dealing with PTSD and night terrors and the news being everywhere does nothing to help (jessica just straight up gets rid of cable and only lets ainsley and malcolm watch VHS bc she’s so worried they’ll accidentally find a news channel), ainsley has no idea what’s going on but she’s still so upset bc mommy is crying and drinking all the time and her brother never wants to play with her, jessica never sleeps and this is when she starts REALLY getting into alcohol as a coping mechanism, gil can’t even help that much bc he’s too busy with the trial himself, jackie comes over a lot to try and offer support but it’s just…by the end of it jessica doesn’t even care that her husband is somehow avoiding prison, she’s just so grateful it’s all over (or so she thinks, cut to 20 years later lmao).

hmm that is an interesting question!!! i think there are a lot of factors tbh (i went a bit overboard…. i hope u like reading lmao)

obviously callum met chris at a very different time in his life - he was younger, less experienced, he evidently hadn’t dealt w feelings like that (feelings towards a man, but also probably just like…. real intense pure love?? i mean look at his family lmao) before. it was probably A Lot to deal with and scared the shit out of him. he probably didn’t act on his feelings for chris because he was scared of his feelings for chris. and if his recent actions are anything to go by, he clearly is still scared of those feelings.

and there are the circumstances too. the army obviously isn’t the greatest or safest place to begin a gay relationship, especially when when you’re as confused and struggling as callum clearly was. and had he acted it on it, then it would have been his first relationship!! ever !!! and it would have been with a man!!! he was experiencing love for the first time!! AND he was a virgin!!! like he was in denial!!! he was probably all kinds of fucked up and confused!!! his head must have been completely mashed, and understandably so!!! so like he was not even close to being in the right headspace or place to act on his feelings. and considering that was the first time he’d experienced feelings like that, maybe he thought it was just a fluke? like a ‘having feelings for one man doesn’t make me gay, esp if i don’t act on it’ kind of thing.

also, just judging from the little bit we know abt chris he seems - and i don’t mean this in a bad way bc i love ben - a lot nicer than ben. like from the sounds of it he was kind and understanding and he seemed to have let callum dictate what happened between them, which in the end was nothing, despite all the feelings that were obviously there between them. vicky said it - chris didn’t want to scare callum and push him away. so he didn’t. he didn’t rock the boat, so nothing happened, even tho they were seemingly in love with each other.

so why did he go there with ben, who he barely knew and gave him almost nothing but trouble, when he couldn’t go there w chris, who he clearly loved? as far as i’m concerned, it’s for the same reasons that he didn’t go there w chris.

callum is now, once again, in a different time of his life. he’s had time, away from the army, to get his head around his feelings (though he clearly hasn’t. if anything he seems even more in denial than he was before lmao), he’s in a much more safe, stable environment in so many ways - away from his abusive dad, away from the army and literal warzones, nice little found family w the carters and whitney, nice stable job. tbh his life was so stable he probably let his guard down a bit too much, bc like since callum has been in eastenders, there had been no real hints that he experienced attraction to men; he was in a happy, committed relationship with whitney, everything was going well. that may be why ben could see through him so easily.callum probably thought he was ‘safe’. that chris really was just a fluke. maybe that’s why he didn’t want to go back to the army - he had a good thing going bc it turns out he wasn’t gay! he just needed to find the right woman! and he didn’t want to risk it all by going back to the army and being around chris again…. makes sense tbh

but then there’s ben. tbh i didn’t sense any attraction from callum’s part until the ‘i smell queer’ scene, so maybe there wasn’t any? maybe he’d been suppressing it? ignoring it? but then he has ben pinned up against a door, and you can see the ‘oh shit’ on callum’s face bc it wasn’t just a fluke and it hasn’t gone away. and ben reads him like a fucking book. which is understandably terrifying. and callum’s world gets blown open because ben says it Out Loud - which tbh i don’t think is something he or chris had ever done before. like the things callum had been feeling seem to have been unspoken, but ben vocalises it. speaks it into existence.

and ben didn’t let it lie after that, did he? whether he was teasing him about it and being a completely bastard or doing his best to be supportive and give him advice, he didn’t allow callum to ignore it or pretend it wasn’t there. it got to the point where even his existence was a reminder - callum would walk into the cafe, or across the street, and there was ben. existing. reminding him. unlike chris, who seemed to be content w just leaving things alone, ben was pushing him, just a little. not allowing him to run away from it. it must have been very frustrating for callum. something was bound to give eventually.

also there’s kinship there, you know? by the sounds of it chris had a loving, supportive family, but ben and callum both had shitty childhoods with shitty, homophobic fathers (and brother, in callum’s case). so there was probably a little bit of a distance between chris and callum bc of that - chris had been able to be out and proud at the age of thirteen, whereas callum probably would have had the shit kicked out of him. and ben gets that, in a way chris probably couldn’t. and that’s probably part of the reason callum is so drawn to ben - bc they share similar experiences, but ben had come out. he was very, very much out despite it all, in a way that callum probably thought was never possible for people like him.

and as corny as it is, ben said it: they see each other. ben is probably the first person in callum’s life that really and truly Gets It, and vice versa (though i doubt callum can see that right now). it must be a profound feeling, being seen like that.

so like to answer ur question (finally lmao) i think there are a LOT of reasons - timing, circumstances, experience, safety. callum wasn’t a virgin anymore, so maybe that made it a little bit easier for him to go that bit further. ben wasn’t leaving things alone, so it was bound to come to a head at some point. and you know, ben was so gentle with him that night at the park, so careful, so understanding, and callum was lonely - he didn’t have chris anymore, he didn’t have anyone who really knew him, yknow? but ben did, in a lot of ways. so like, that moment was probably just a moment of ‘i can’t do this anymore. can’t continue to pretend it isn’t there, that i don’t feel this way’. and probably a moment of ‘fuck it’ too. and of curiosity. and of bravery, and weakness. lots of things.

but i don’t think it was necessarily a matter of callum liking ben more if i’m being completely honest. i think it was more a matter of exhaustion, like he just straight up couldn’t keep running from it anymore, but also there was this petrifying desire to be seen, wholly. like ben already knew, there was no need to explain it or put words to it. he could just let himself do what he wanted to do, and ben was going to let him. and then as soon as it had happened, he regretted it, bc that was not the person he wanted to be. and there was probably guilt there too, abt chris. callum probably asked himself the same question - why ben? why him but not chris?
