idk what ending everybody’s talking about cause everyone knows that dead poets society ended with Neil and Todd having an un-official wedding ceremony after graduation and Neil becoming a well established actor, Todd becoming a well established writer and even writing some of the plays that Neil starred in
how am i supposed to survive school if i know very well that my english teacher won't tell us to carpe diem and make our lives extraordinary and yell quotes and kick footballs to classical music and rip pages from our books and start a secret poetry society with all of my queer-coded friends and-
y'all know i love anderperry fluff but realistically, i honestly don't think they'd be all cute and lovey dovey, especially not in the beginning.
realistically, when todd realises what he feels for neil, he is more anxious than ever and feels like this is just another thing that his brother did better than him, just another thing that proves his parents right.
realistically, neil panics, and tries everything to avoid coming to grips with the fact that he's in love, because he knows what this means, and he knows what his parents will think, and he knows that he failed. failed his father.
realistically, they stare at each other from their beds in their room and pretend they don't - and pretend they don't notice the other staring back on top of that.
realistically, when they drunkenly have their first kiss, there's more than one reason they close their eyes.
but then they get all cute and happy after because i only stand small amounts of angst 💗💞💕💓
I need to talk about Charlie Dalton. Because that man knew about Todd and Neil. There’s no way he didn’t. Charlie was Neil’s best friend for so many years, there’s no way he didn’t see how Neil acted with and treated Todd. And he probably only had suspicions. Because up till that point he probably had no reason to think Neil wasn’t straight. And he realized it was true when he told Todd what happened.
Because Todd had such an extreme reaction. Yes, it was a terrible thing what happened. But Todd had only known Neil for 4/5 months (Americans start school in August, don’t they? Maybe, I’m Canadian, we start in September). So why did Todd have such a- a violent reaction to finding out? Because Neil was more than just a friend, compared to what he was to everyone else.
Charlie was Neil’s best and longest friend, and although we don’t see his reaction to the news, it seems apparent that Todd’s was the most intense. And that’s how Charlie realized. Because Neil meant more to Todd than anyone else. Because he was more than a friend.
But of course Charlie couldn’t ask. Any mention of Neil’s name and Todd would probably shut down. So Charlie just holds in this new information that he’s realized. And it’s all he can do. And it probably hurt him realizing that Neil was in love with Todd, and Neil didn’t tell him. Didn’t feel safe or ready or comfortable, whatever it was. Neil didn’t tell Charlie. And that probably hurt him even more.
todd works as a tutor for some cash and neil works as a todd simp full time so he hires todd and pretends to be doing bad in english class, despite having good grades overall and todd's like "well what do you have the most trouble with"
and neil may be an actor but he's not much of liar so he panics and says "everything"
