Todd: Valentine’s Day is a dumb commercial holiday and I hate it.
Neil: I wrote you a letter describing a hundred things I love about you.
Todd, crying: You did?

i feel so discouraged when people belittle my dreams of becoming a film director
like i know that it’s hard but i think my deep affection for film and the way it evokes emotion in people will always drive me to pursue this dream of mine
when i watch a film and it gives me goosebumps it just reminds me of my fondness and passion for cinematography
like i genuinely can’t put into words how much film means to me and i can’t give up on my dreams
and i don’t know if this is stupid but even tho im still a teenage girl im already making films in my head and i have so many ideas for what i want to create and its just making me so anxious for the future
i can’t wait to be a film director.

I know I’ve spoke about Meeks hating silence, especially after Neil’s death, but have you ever thought about how mad he would go? I imagine he comes back from the times without the group, his hair all over the place and his glasses nearly falling off of his face, and everyone can tell what’s going on. Yet, no one asks him, they leave him alone, and that makes it worse. I imagine Meeks getting extremely depressed and easily irritated after Neil’s death.

i had to write an essay on dps and wanted to share this heartbreaking thought: neil may have pulled the trigger, but it is ultimately his father who killed him. to neil, the only thing worse than death was loss of identity. neil perry never wanted to die. in fact, what he craved most in his life was to live. he committed one last act of rebellion not to kill himself, but to save himself. he died so that his identity would live on.
TW: NEIL’S DEATH
this was beautifully heartbreaking. thank you for sharing. i think i’ve always thought something similar, but never been able to put it into words. it always felt slightly jarring to me that neil killed himself so quickly after the play. it definitely made sense; what with his awful father and presumably not great childhood, but it seemed throughout the film that he was rising above his trauma and using the arts to cope. but in the end, neil knew he couldn’t change who he was for his father so he decided to rebel one final time. because who else could mr. perry live through if not his only son? neil also knew that with himself out of the picture, his father would have a chance at facing the reality of how awful he was. he unfortunately didn’t do that as we all know.
