2024 Planetary Predictions: Saturn
Tumblr media
Please check your rising or your placidus for the houses.
Saturn will be in Direct Pisces in: 1st January to 28 June / in 15th November
Saturn will be in Retrograde Pisces in: 25th May to 8th October to 14th November
Aries Rising or Pisces 12th house
what a start of the year Aries, with pisces in the 12th house, theres quite a lot happening here indeed. the start of year can feel a little rough, because your mental health will be going through a few changes and a few complications, pisces energy gives a lot off illusions and added with the Neptune energy this isnt easy. However theres also some chance, because if you out into pratique your talents you will be able to achieve some dreams. Be aware of promontory dreams and seeing into the unknown.
when Saturn will be retrograde, this will be even more complicated and expect your mental health to have here some downgrade. pisces energy isnt easy and there evil be a lot of victim like feelings, you using things as a coping mechanism and as a way of escapism and overall being very sensitive to things that happen to you. please take care of yourself.
Taurus Rising or Pisces 11th house
Listen beautiful being, now is the time for you to shine and to use this energy wisely. with this placement it is time for you to enjoy your friendships and to start being more socially active and more engaged with your values and morals. overall a good period for you to be the center of the attention of your social circles
be aware of fake friendships that will be revealed during retrograde. this is a good thing because it will give you a nice cleansing of people around you but it will still be painful to accept. careful with being too escapist as well
Gemini Rising or Pisces 10th house
Gemini, listen this is your year when it comes to career and goals for your future, use the Saturn energy to achieve everything that you want. pisces energy will give you lots of dreams and this is the time to conquer everything that you dream off by putting the right amount go effort in your networking. Expect your status to raise up
Take all you can because when Saturn retrograde arrives it will be taking stuff away from you if you aren't careful. during these time you might feel stuck of that your projects aren't involving as fast as you might have wished them for. be patient and don't be a victim of your own game. PATIENCE ! That will be the thing you need to deal with before seeing your reputation go up again
Cancer Rising or Pisces 9th house
Cancer this is a good moment to travel, to change your horizons. for many this will be synonym of changing countries, changing places and traveling where your heart desires. if you are planning or doubting yourself, this is the the big yes that yes, take your changes and go forward. take that change because you wont regret it. for some this could be changing education area, changing a moral, a value or even a religion/spiritual path.
of course, retrograde will bring you doubt and a lot of anxiety from your choices of moving around, of changing your educations, your religions or places in general. just hold on tight, you will feel very sensitive and cry a lot but after October things will get back into place
Leo Rising or Pisces 8th house
My Leo siblings, this start of the year will quite something. this will depend case per case, but most of you will start your active sexual life during this period until May. for those who have already started, there will be here some novelty to your sexual life. expect new things happening.
But please be careful during summer time, with Saturn in retrograde theres the possibility of accidents happening around your sexual life which is why remember that you have to restrict yourself in some cases. don't put yourself in danger, don't use sex as a coping mechanism and just overall don't be reckless. death will be walking by your side during these period, be aware of it and be careful of how you deal with some events
Virgo Rising or Pisces 7th  house
this is such a good start of the year for your Virgo, when it comes to relationships expect you to reach here some goals. for those who aren't in a relationship, expect to find love, to find crushes and to overall fall in love with someone that is around you (or that will come into your life). use the pisces energy to be happy and enjoy yourself! for those who are already in a relationship, this is the time for planning, for spending time with your love ones and overall enjoy the peace.
Because between may and October things will be more complicated. some of you will suffer harsh breakups, lies in the relationship, or huge struggles/difficulties that will put the relationship in a tight spot. For those who will be single, theres will be the possibility of unrequited love.
Libra Rising or Pisces 6th house
We start the year okay here, usually any injuries that you have suffered will get back into place. most of your libra will also go through some spiritual and mental healing with the pisces energy so please take it to take care of yourself
however between may and October there will be some health issues again (that will get better once Saturn gets back to direct). during this time, physically be aware of any diseases of accidents that touch your feet area, pituitary glands and pineal glands. also some major hormonal issues here. mentally it will also be a very complicated moment of your life, with a lot of setbacks and mental health complications coming back
Scorpio Rising or Pisces 5th house
Okay Scorpio, i have already said this in Jupiter and I will say it again, careful with your sexual activities unless you want to have kids because here many of you will get pregnant or have children due to Saturn energy. pisces energy will also give you dreams that can be turn to be real. Its a good period for you to fall in love, to be in touch with your feelings and to have overall fun without worrying about your heart
Retrograde will bring here some difficulties. most of you will feel bored or start using things (or substances) as a way of escapism because Saturn energy can be quite awful and you don't know how to cope with everything that is happening in your life. be aware of behaviors that you should avoid and are aware of it.
Sagittarius Rising or Pisces 4th house
my babies, expect to enter this start of the year in big. this is such an important moment to be around the ones that you love and be around your family. good period to turn your family dreams into reality to get back to your roots and feel more connected with your ancestors as well. Some of you can also start getting ready to prepare your own family as well!
When Saturn will be retrograde, it will bring with it some difficulties inside your family. Expect every to be slightly sensitive, arguments erupting every now and then and a lot of conflict. you might use too much the card of victim so also take responsibility for your actions during that time
Capricorn Rising or Pisces 3rd house
capricorns, we are starting this year softly and with you being able to open more with people and be more communicative. use that emotional side you got to listen to people, to listen to what we are telling you and try to use your mind to make decisions. This isnt a time for you to use your heart. be smart, yet trust your intuition a lot. this is a good moment to practice spirituality as well.
when Saturn gets retrograde we will meet some difficulties here. You will feel overwhelmed rather easily and because of that your mind will be too much to handle. overthinking can be a thing, such as shutting now and not tailing to anyone. seek help if necessary and don't push yourself away
Aquarius Rising or Pisces 2nd house
Whatever your dream of, whatever you wish to have, this is your moment to get it. use the pisces in 2nd house energy to get everything that you want and everything that you have dream off being able to be on your hands on its physical form. this is a good period to invest in dreams and business, in thing that you want. great period to also involve skills that you wish to get better at
Saturn retrograde will put you on a tight spot. for some, you will see some of your dreams slipping through your fingers while being unable to get them back. while for others you will simply get stuck when it comes to money. financial difficulties or unable to proceed with your plans.
Pisces Rising or Pisces 1st house
Listen here, this is your year when it comes to transformation of yourself. it is time to have a new haircut, to start a clean skincare, to eat better, to change your closet, buy yourself new outfits and just overall change yourself appearance wise. I would advice for many of you to use a soft style instead of sharp, with pale colors to put yourself In a good position
during summer this can be quite tricky because Saturn will make you believe that nothings is worth it. some of you will probably get back to old habits and do yourself some harm while others will get too extreme with this. hold on tight and try your best to stay in the middle ground until the beginning of October where everything gets back to the normal.

Believe it or not, Elon Musk is a very romantic and reserved person. This is because he has Sun and Venus in the 12th house, which means that he lives a lot in his head, he has an entire universe inside his mind, which he really wants to share with others, this is because his Sun is in Cancer, this sign generally wants to share its intimate universe with other people, as it does not like being alone. Elon has been very deluded in love (Venus in the 12th house), he falls in love with intelligent women, who can be a match for his curiosity and intellect (Venus in Gemini), but they are usually not very attached, or he is not very attached. He can have a difficult relationship with women because at the same time that he wants intimacy, he also craves space and innovation.
As everyone already knows, Elon considers the “family institution” to be very important, he has said this in several interviews, this is due to his Sun in Cancer, who loves the idea of being able to generate life and nourish it, that people should have more children. He feels good about his children, as they are his legacy(Descendant in Capricorn), what he will leave to the world, in a way.
He is a great father, despite being absent most of the time, as the Sun in the 12th house represents physical distance. He lets his children live their own world, but he will always be there to provide unconditional support and love (Sun in Cancer in the 12th house) if they need it.
He is very restless, since his Sun makes an aspect of tension with Uranus, he may have had/still has anxiety, this is because when he wants something he wants to see it manifest as quickly as possible (Uranus in the 3rd house + Mars in Aquarius). He may also have suffered many betrayals from people he thought were his friends (Uranus in the 3rd house in Libra), whom he trusted or had partnerships with (Libra). These betrayals really affected him(Sun + Venus in the 12th house), as he did not expect such behavior from certain people (Uranus).
Because he was betrayed, he may have closed himself off (Mars in the 8th house), creating certain barriers between himself and others in an emotional way (Sun in the 12th), distrusting people's motive and intentions (Mars in the 8th). He also likes to see his projects bearing fruit soon (Mars in Aquarius). He rarely changes his mind, as Mars in Aquarius is very stubborn, when he gets an idea in his head he will pursue it fanatically. No one can stop him, as Mars in this sign is unstoppable, he goes after what he wants, fighting for his ideals in an unbeatable way (Mars in the 8th house).
He is very critical of himself and others(Moon in Virgo), he generally doesn't take people's opinions into consideration, which can hurt them, but he doesn't criticize to harm people, he really wants to see things around him improve.
He has the Moon in the 2nd house, which means that financial security is very important to him, the accumulation of financial resources is something that brings him comfort and emotional security on a certain level. He also knows his worth, knowing how to nurture himself (Moon in the 2nd house + Sun in Cancer) and others.
Elon Musk is very affectionate and generous with the people he loves, he is always giving gifts (Moon in the 2nd house), sometimes he does this to compensate for his absence in the lives of those he loves (Sun + Venus in the 12th house: absence), but he is always thinking about these people while he works (Moon in the 2nd house).
With Saturn in the 11th house he may have just a few (real) friends, generally these people do not give him the emotional support he needs, those who support him are there most of the time just to advise him, and not really listen to his emotional problems and face difficult situations together with him.
One thing that everyone also knows and that defines Elon's fame: he has many children. This can be explained by his Jupiter in the 5th house: the 5th house talks about children, our creations, things that are created through love. Jupiter expands everything it touches, so obviously he can be very f2rtile, mainly because of his Sun in Cancer and Jupiter in Scorpio. Furthermore, he has strong genes (Jupiter in Scorpio), his children look a lot like him.
He has Mercury in conjunction with the Ascendant, he is very strategic, when he knows what he wants (Mars in the 8th house), he gathers all his strength, collects and saves all his resources (Moon in the 2nd house + Mars in the 8th house) and then invests everything in what he wants. His actions are well thought out and he is very intelligent (Venus in Gemini + Uranus in the 3rd house in Gemini + Mars in Aquarius), and he is also very sincere (Moon in Virgo).
In his free time I would say that he likes to drink (Sun+Venus in the 12th house), expensive wines (Moon in the 2nd house), and read a good book (Mercury conjunct the ascendant + Uranus in the 3rd house: need for intellectual stimulation).
As his 6th house begins in Sagittarius he has physical vigor, he doesn't get sick easily, he likes to do things that give him energy on a daily basis, this is good because his Sun and Venus in the 12th house could have given him low immunity.
He also loses interest, romantically speaking, if the relationship lacks intellectual stimulation or if the other person no longer stimulates his curiosity, as he likes new things, especially with Uranus in the 3rd house and Venus in Gemini.
Also, with Uranus in the 3rd house he is very open-minded, unconventional and finds it very difficult to fit into conventional patterns. His mind doesn't sit still and his thoughts are so fast that sometimes everything gets jumbled in his mind, even though he knows almost intuitively how each thought and idea connects together.

Some recent illustrations from my daily meteorological fiction project, Reports From Unknown Places About Undescribable Events (Twitter, Instagram)
Keep reading for the companion texts.
September 5th - We report a windy night. Ribbons of clouds are going by fast and it seems like the sky is spinning over our head. The moon set hours ago, the night is dark, and we absolutely cannot tell where we are going. We are completely lost, actually.
September 12th - We report: not so long ago here, the grass had yellowed entirely, become dry, been hopelessly stomped to the ground by the summer heat. But with these days of heavy rain and the ones with intermittent moments of sunshine too, it is like a short spring shoved in between seasons.
September 19th - We report, on a day full of electricity, the wind turbines are spinning very fast and steadily, and the sun beaming down on the fields is making the sky look so much darker in comparison. We can still hear some crickets even as the weather keeps getting colder.
September 26th - We report: the house got drenched in golden light, in a way that had us immediately look out the window. The whole sky was lit up, and the world around us was in shades that we had never seen before. We stepped outside to take it in. The light changed again after a few minutes.
October 4th - We report: this morning, for breakfast, our expert had tea with a splash of milk. As we are looking up now, the way these clouds are expanding is looking just like that splash of milk in that teacup - they are taking their sweet time, though, and the light is changing fast.
October 8th - We report: the moon will be full tomorrow. We cannot really tell how much rounder the moon can get from here - about two percent more, our expert says, but this sounds very abstract to us. It is all about the moonlight to us, and how it washes over the world.
October 9th - We report a long night: our expert stopped by our house without any warning, and we stayed up all night listening to their weather-related stories. We brewed a lot of coffee while their vocabulary gradually became more and more obscure. Now, we are just about ready for sleep.
October 11th - We report scattered light across the cirrus that surround the sun, barely visible to the naked eye - but it is a shimmering veil of the whole spectrum of colours, one that we always look for whenever the weather conditions are similar to this day's.
October 14th - We report: there was never a chance that we would go out today. We looked at the rain falling through the window all day long. The sky started clearing up in the afternoon, and the wind picked up. The raindrops were drying slowly on the windowpane, and we were still inside.
October 19th - We report: as October keeps marching on, we have not yet found the cold temperatures we remember of autumn. We find ourselves having a hard time reconciling the shorter days with this odd note of summer lingering in the air. The sky is impossibly blue up there.

2023 New Moon in Pisces 02/20 How to manifest with it + Notes /tips for each rising/moon
What is happening during this new moon ?
First and for all this is a Supermoon and it’s right before Saturn and Pluto will change signs which is a rare transit configuration that doesn’t happen often. There is going to be a big energy shift. It’s really the perfect time to start manifesting. So keep reading and ask for what you want while manifesting !
During this new moon, few days before and after, you will feel a lot of emotions and some emotions will also come on the surface you might even forget about it. Your environment will play a big role here so just be around the right people for that time being and listen to your emotions and what they’re trying to tell you. Be more present with yourself.
How to manifest with this new moon ?
This new moon is in a water sign so it’s best to use water while manifesting. Drink water while saying your affirmations, take a bath or a shower and say your affirmations. But first and for all think big, don’t play small. Pisces is the water sign of expansion and dreams so dream big and you will get what you want !
Tips for the main characters of this new moon in Pisces
Pisces/Virgo rising and moon
- The new moon is happening in your 1st/7th house axis which is the one dedicated to your identity, your beginnings and your long term relationships (friends, partner, business partner).
- Ask for a better self love, self care, self esteem, better skin, body etc + better relationships in your love life and business life
- Use affirmations based on your identity and relationships, your life, your vitality and your character.
- Think big but be realistic and pragmatic because soon saturn will be transitioning your 1st/7th house axis asking you to be more disciplined. Chose wisely your manifestations.
-> The same goes for all major mutable placements so Gemini, Sagittarius and Virgo placements.
Tips for each rising/moon sign

what has been your favorite class you ever had?
Oh man, good question. It's honestly less about the classes themselves and more so the teachers honestly.
Let me rant a little anyway.
My 6th grade English class was amazing because I didn't have to put any effort into anything (way ahead of my peers and probably that poor teacher too, I'm not trying to flatter myself it just felt that way), and she repeatedly told me she could listen to me read forever.
My 8th and 9th grade French classes were also great. I genuinely dislike French as a language but that teacher was sweet as sugar to me and there's something very appealing about being one of the few students called "sweetheart" by a very pretty older woman hovering around your desk because you were the most well behaved student.
Through 7th to 9th grade I enjoyed all the art classes we had because I also didn't have to put too much effort into it all and we were only loosely surveillanced so I'd spend most of my time listening to music while I was drawing and occasionally doodling stupid shit on my friend's papers while she wasn't looking.
11th grade Portuguese classes were pretty good too, genuinely loved our teacher and the literature we studied. 12th grade was also interesting, but our teacher was different and I remember me and three other students getting expelled from class because we were laughing hysterically at a picture of a badly drawn alien one of us pulled up on our phones. That was incredibly stupid but one of my fondest high school memories (there aren't many, trust me).

How to Choose a Stream?
With boards ending, a lot of you guys are wondering what stream you should choose, and a few people have hmu in my dms asking for advice, so i figured I'd make a post about how I suggest choosing a stream. Fair warning, I am a PCMB student so my advice will be a little science-stream focused because, obviously, I don't know what problems other streams might face, so additions are welcome from other people who have more to add <3
First off, this is one of the most important decisions of your life. This decision determines what the next two years of your life will look like, and it plays a strong role in determining your career for the rest of your life. So don't make this choice lightly.
Make an informed decision. I cannot stress upon this enough- do. your. own. research. Don't trust people who say there is no job opportunity in abc stream or that xyz stream will make your 'life set', all of it is bullshit. Half the time the people giving you these advices finished their schooling 20-30 years ago, respectfully- they have no idea what they're talking about. So sure, listen to everyone's inputs but check everything for yourself.
Websites are your best friend. And no, not "Top 7 High Salary Careers' type websites, I mean college websites. The best way to choose your stream is to explore various careers. For this, start with exploring the type of courses and degrees available, then head to the college's websites and check out the curriculum, the eligibility and the entrance exam requirements. Of course you don't have to choose a degree from now itself, in fact even if you have chosen something 9 times out of 10 you will change your mind by the time 12th ends, but knowing what options there are other than NEET, JEE, CUET and stuff will help you understand if you're more inclined towards science, commerce or humanities.
Subjects change after 10th, for example- what you think physics is and what 11th-12th physics is are two completely different things, so if you are more inclined towards a particular stream, go through the books. Either borrow from your seniors or go through the free NCERT pdfs (ncerts are the easiest versions of science subjects, at least, so your actual material will be 1-2 levels higher in difficulty, keep that in mind). Going through the material is not that efficient because everything seems easy at first glance but it still gives a general idea about the type of stuff you will learn so whatever piques your interest most should be a good choice to consider. I would suggest going through the books of all the streams if you have time, that way you can check which is the best fit for you. (Also go through multiple chapters, not just the first few ones)
Work on attraction rather than elimination. Dismissing a stream just because you don't like one subject in it is not a good way to go about it. Choose the stream which has a majority of subjects you do like, rather than choosing one which has the least number of subjects you don't like. Overall the purpose of a stream in 11th-12th is to get you into your desired course in college, so your biggest indication of stream will be the degrees you like, not the subjects you don't like.
Remember to prioritize yourself and your choices, trust yourself. People might have all sorts of opinions about what stream you should take and what career you should pursue. Of course some people have your best interests in mind, but ultimately it is you who has to go through with it. Being pushed into making certain choices is really harmful because there is absolutely no motivation to keep going once it gets hard (and it will). So it is best to choose your own poison so that when times get hard you know that this is something you actually really want and that way you will genuinely feel like working for it, rather than being forced to work hard for something you aren't even sure you want to do.
Don't stress too much. I know I said this is a super important decision, and it is, but it is not life ending. You can only do so much and there is no guarantee whether what you choose today will work out for you two years down the line. And that's okay. Remember that there is always an option to change plans, no matter how far along you are. So don't bind yourself to the choice you make today, you always have more options. Try your best to choose what feels right for you, and if situations change later in life, so can your plans.
If you don't know what exactly you want to do with your life, stop blaming yourself for it. I promise 90% of us had no idea what we were doing when we were your age either, even if we thought we knew what we wanted, we didn't. It's okay to not know what you want to do for the rest of your life when you're 15 or 16. Trust your gut and try your best to be informed about the stream you're choosing. As you go along, you will find your calling when the time is right. It's never too late, you'll be fine
lots of love to everyone starting on this really tedious path, the next two years will teach you a lot about yourselves and I hope you all make the best of it, all the best <3

As a teacher, what has been your fave shakespere play to teach your students? What interesting themes do the kids these days pick up on or connect with? Has there been any interesting insights your students have brought that have surprised you?
Thanks for the question! So I haven't taught English since before the pandemic, because I finally found a school that doesn't reserve the history classes for the coaches (this kept happening to me when I moved back to the States, I'm dual certified, so I'd get hired for history and they'd move me to English when they hired a coach. This happened like 3 times), which is great for me, I vastly prefer teaching history. But did teach a lot of English previously and I'd say the answer really depends on the group of kids, their reading level, how much they'd been exposed to previously.
There's a reason high schools usually start off with Romeo and Juliet in the 9th grade. The story is not difficult to follow, most teenagers are familiar with the concept of forbidden romance, and the themes are age appropriate. I've taught King Lear, which is one of my personal favorites, to a group of very advanced and very keen 12th graders (so 17-18 years old), and I think even they were too young and lacking the life experience to really get it (it's kind of unfortunate that by the time King Lear hits hardest, which imo is once your own parents start aging, most of us are not reading Shakespeare anymore. Very few people read it outside of a school setting, nerds on tumblr notwithstanding). So it can be objectively more rewarding to teach a relatively basic play like Romeo and Juliet, than to teach a more advanced play like King Lear, even though I like King Lear better, simply because it's more suited to the age group.
But probably my favorite play to teach is Hamlet, which I've taught in both 11th and 12th grade. Hamlet is a broody young man, he's home from university and his life sucks, his asshole uncle has married his mom, he's pretty sure his dad was murdered, his girlfriend literally kills herself, there's a ghost, and no one is listening to him. It strikes a good balance in that it has some great soliloquys, including the famous "to be or not to be," that you can really dig into, but which don't get too far into the weeds and don't require a whole history lesson to understand. There are allusions, but they're mostly mythology based (like Niobe, all tears, Hyperion to a satyr) which makes them easy for the kids to look up. Importantly, it asks age appropriate existential questions about life and death (what's the point in living when you're miserable, is suffering noble, what if death is not better), stuff that teenagers grapple with. Macbeth is also good to teach because it's quite exciting with all of the murder, betrayal, and of course the witches.
It's been four years since I last taught English so it's hard for me to remember any specific insights from the kids at the moment but I will say that in general, one of my favorite lessons to teach each year in the Shakespeare unit was on the use of language. The kids fucking loved learning iambic pentameter. One of my favorite things to do was write a couple of lines on the board (I usually used two lines from Julius Caesar which were the same lines my own English teacher used to teach us when I was in school Poor man! I know he would not be a wolf/But that he sees the Romans are but sheep) and get them to beat out the meter on their desks. They thought it was so cool that iambic meter has the same rhythm as the human heart, and that it is more or less the natural rhythm of our speech. When we'd read the plays, I'd catch them tapping out the meter to themselves to test it out.
In general, I enjoyed teaching Shakespeare, but it was also a struggle. It's very hard to get kids who, for the most part, do not read for pleasure to read a whole play in early modern English. Mostly their reading consists of short passages as part of standardized testing, and they're very resistant to the very idea of Shakespeare, which they write off as old and boring. As a teacher I had to work very hard to make the text engaging enough to push past that wall and while there are always kids who are just not going to get there, every year I taught Shakespeare I was always pleasantly surprised by how many kids would get fully invested. I guess it's just fun when the kids are actually into the story. The themes are great and all, but Shakespeare wrote these plays to be entertaining and it makes me really happy when the kids are entertained by them.

Homestuck, page 7,928
[S][A6A6I5] ====>
youtube
And there it is.
The greatest reunion in Homestuck history. Neigh, the greatest MOMENT. It does not get better than this. It WILL NOT get better than this. At some point, possibly during the 5th or 6th loop of the above animation which you can't seem to stop watching and listening to, a thought occurs to you. You think with a sense of relief, this is it. We made it. This one-page triumph has just retroactively vindicated the long and arduous journey behind it. After every bump in the road, every setback, every nagging doubt about the story's direction, every FUCKING time your waifu got the shaft, all of that just got wiped away in the blink of a tearful eye by the single greatest piece of media you have ever experienced.
You can finally say with absolute conviction that it's all been worth it. It has all paid off. All roads no matter how treacherous brought you to this glory. Every obscure plot thread, every batshit twist, all that retcon stuff, the sprite squared shit, every bit of dubious narrative legerdemain, ALL of it you now realize was designed with excruciating precision to achieve this singular, magnificent result. You'd be blown away in hindsight by these shocking feats of multi-threaded plot prestidigitation if you weren't still transfixed by the looping animation. And your jaw would be hitting the floor by now if not for the leagues-deep sense of tranquility welling inside your bosom now that you know Homestuck's audacious promise has been utterly fulfilled forever.
You're now into your… what is it? 11th, maybe 12th loop of the animation? You've lost track, and it doesn't matter. What's the hurry, you wonder. What's the harm in camping on this page for a while longer. What else do you have going on? Maybe it's time we faced the facts. This is truly all you have. This is your LIFE. Without breaking eye contact with your monitor, you find yourself reaching for your smartphone. Wait, why exactly am I doing this, you wonder? Why am I going for my phone. You are going for your phone because it's time to take a fucking PICTURE, numbnuts. You decide that digital photography is the best way to make this shit last forever.
You nod and go, oh that makes sense, yeah. I'll definitely take a picture of this animation which has looped at least 20 times by now. Make sure you get yourself in the picture too, to prove you were there. You mumble, what? A selfie. Take a god damn selfie of yourself, posing next to page 9828 of MS Paint Adventures dot com. As you contort your body to pose next to your screen and flip your camera to selfie mode, I continue my unhinged diatribe to instruct all other readers to do the same. I want to see SELFIES, people. I need to see your ridiculous mugs next to these two gently bobbing freaks posted publicly on all of your social media channels by the THOUSANDS. Not just a few thousand either. Oh no. Like an old and wise meme once foretold, we're gonna need to clear nine big ones here. In fact I'm gonna need your selfies jacked up so far over 9000, scientists will have to start inventing new numbers to keep track.
Choke the internet with your selfies, or with a horse as my witness, I will delete this fucking website. If I don't see enough selfies out there, I will scrub Homestuck from the Akashic Servers and never speak its name again. I will then dedicate every shred of ingenuity, political influence and worldly resources I have to releasing darkness on this planet. So post your selfies early. Post them often. Post them to save a modern literary MASTERPIECE. Post them to save the lives of BILLIONS. But most of all, post them because you really want to, and were PROBABLY going to do it anyway even if I didn't say all this bullshit.

hii, i was on tumblr like a year or so ago and i used to follow you. i'm now in 12th and preparing for JEE and just wanted to ask how did your entrance exams go and what tips would you like to give. you can also privately message me if you want. thankyou
oh boy another jee aspirant, good luck with it bestie. as for tips, here they are:
time management- this is the most important one out there. manage. your. time. study hard, do revision, but also find the time to chill a little bit. don't spend all your time studying, dimag kharaab ho jayega. whether it be listening to music, or drawing, or simply taking a small walk on the terrace, take small small breaks throughout your study sessions
revision- abhi 12th khatam hone ko aaya. around this time only a few chapters are remaining, both at school and at coaching so revise. brush up on 11th ke concepts, resolve questions, ask doubts to your teachers about 12th concepts that you havent understood. dont just by heart a formula, understand how and why its used, derive it yourself
mock tests and pyqs- I M P O R T A N T. kitne saval solve karoge utna practice hoga ergo utni achi tayyari. solve karne ke baad analyse karna bhi bahut bahut important hai. look at each and every question, see where you went wrong, make a note of it. keep it in mind, and attempt your next paper. coaching wale jo tests rakhte hai dont miss even a single one of them, theyre very helpful
study time table- make one and stick to it religiously. r e l i g i o u s l y. unless koi bhukamp aaya hai or sumn you need to self study for a minimum of 5 hours every day.
thats it really. just be really dedicated and stick to the plan you've made until the end.

Hi, it’s me again, Fanfic Anon #2. This one is based on some of the comments Brigitte made about her upcoming birthday during the last few interviews, and the fact there’s a State Visit that basically overlaps it. I feel so bad that she seems already nervous about what the press is going to write/how much is going to be said about it and now there’s going to be all this trip coverage too that could mention it. Anyways, hope you all enjoy my take on a comforting!Emmanuel.
He sighed deeply when he saw the final dates for the trip laid out in front of him in black and white on the schedule and itinerary: April 11-12, what will be too close to April 13 for his wife’s liking.
While he personally loves April 13th because it is the day his soulmate came into the world - in fact, if pressed, he’d say it’s his favorite day of the year for that reason - he knows she isn’t the biggest fan of celebrating her birthday in a normal year. And this birthday was definitely one of the bigger ones.
She had been open about it, how she was dreading the 7 at the start of her age. For a woman who was normally very secure in herself and in their relationship, April 13th always was this big flashing reminder to her of all the things that made her insecure - their age difference and all that comes with it. He could tell she was afraid they were starting to get into the range where that gap would be too big, too insurmountable for him anymore. Even if that fear was completely unfounded - there was nothing that would be too insurmountable for them. They are, and will forever be, two fused halves of one whole.
He had been wracking his brain to try and find a way to reassure her that to him age really was just a number, that he loves her today more than he did 25 plus years ago when their relationship started, 30 years from when they met. Maybe this visit was it, a way to show her, and the world, just how beautiful she is, intelligent she is, funny she is - how perfect she is.
"Chérie," he said that night at dinner, reaching out to grab her hand.
"Mhmm?" she acknowledged as she went for another bite of the dish she had worked so hard on.
"I got the dates back for the Netherlands trip."
"Oh? When?" she asked excited, eyes lighting up a little at the prospect of another trip with him. While she hates flying, she loves seeing the world, making memories, by his side.
"April 11th and 12th," he replied, with a warm smile on his face as he saw hers fall.
"Oh," she said softly. "That’s -"
"I know, chérie, it’s going to overlap with your birthday. There wasn’t any other time that worked."
"No, I understand. Excuse me for a minute," she stated quietly as she removed her hand from his and quickly left the dining room table, needing a moment.
He knew that look, knew she was in her own head about this, and knew he needed to find her, setting off towards their bathroom where he knew she’d be.
Just as he had expected, there she was sitting on the edge of the tub, arms wrapped tightly around herself as she stared blankly into space. Careful not to startle her, he sat down beside her, and wrapped one arm around her shoulders, pulling her into him.
"What’s wrong?" he asked gently.
"I had hoped to avoid everyone this year on my birthday. Certainly the press. God, I can’t even imagine what they’re going to write now -"
"I can: ‘France’s First Lady Charms Nation with Her Dazzling Beauty and Witty Personality.’"
She snorted dismissively at that, "I don’t think anyone is going to write that headline, chéri. They’re going to talk about how I’m dressed inappropriately for my age, how I’m trying too hard, how I’m too old for you, how I’m too old to represent France."
"Hey, now. Don’t talk about my best friend that way."
"It’s the truth and you know it!"
"It’s not the truth, Brigitte," he said very firmly. "I need you to listen to me, and listen well. You are the most extraordinary woman I have ever met. You are so very, very beautiful. Not despite of or with your wrinkles, or your age, or whatever else you think anyone else would say. You just are so very beautiful. So sure, I’m biased when I say you are the most beautiful woman in the world, because to me you are, but I’m not biased when I state the simple fact that you are beautiful. And very, very sexy. Good God, woman, I can hardly keep my hands to myself around you.
"You are also brilliant. And funny. And witty. And oh, so clever. I fell in love with your mind, and with your kind and generous heart, long before I fell in love with anything else about you - those blue eyes, that smile, your legs! That’s why you’re my soulmate, Brigitte. That’s why I love you more today than I did when we started this relationship, why I love you now more than when I first met you.
"I know you’re scared. It’s okay to be scared. But you don’t need to be. Because I am going to love you more on April 14th than I will on April 13th, and I will love you more on both of those days than I do today. That’s the way this works. So we’re going to go to the Netherlands for two days, and I’m going to be so unbearably proud to be on your arm. I am going to show the whole entire world just how beautiful and brilliant my wife is. And at the end of those two days, on your 70th birthday, the only thing anyone is going to write about is how perfect my wife is and how much I adore her." He finished his speech by pressing a long kiss to her temple, content to hold her for as long as it takes for her to know he is never leaving her side.
Hellooo fanfic Anon 2!❤️
Emmanuel’s words to reassure Brigitte... just so beautiful and touchy 🤧 I just melt. And it’s totally something I can see him telling her 🥰
Thank you so much, Fanfic Anon #2! ❤️❤️❤️

I’ve been thinking about how I’ve grown as a person and how I’ve learned to love the little, weird things about myself that I used to feel shame about. So, I’m going to ramble about that and tie in how much, “The Politician” means to me. I swear it makes some sense.
Trigger warning for mental health/suicide mentions, please don’t read my rambling if those topics are triggering to you!
My interest in, “The Politician” started in 10th grade, when it came out. I would talk about it to anyone who would listen.
I had the sweetest teacher in the world, who watched the show on her own time so we could talk about it when I ate lunch with her in her classroom.
She once told me that I reminded her of Payton Hobart and I worried that she meant all of the emotional issues that he has, but that’s not what she meant at all. She said that like Payton, I am very ambitious and articulate and intelligent. That was, and still is, probably one of the best compliments I’ve ever received.
I went on through online school (11th grade) having “The Politician” be my, “thing”. I was known as the nerd who liked Ben Platt and his Netflix show. I prided myself in that. The show brought me a lot of security through the hard times of online school.
I went onto 12th grade, ready to be reunited with all of my friends, but most of them moved and-or dropped out during the previous school year, unbeknownst to me. My super sweet teacher had also gone on to teach at a new school, so she was gone as well.
I had one friend, now ex-friend, who little by little, distanced herself from me, not even having lunch with me during the school day.
You may be asking what my mom asked, “Why did you put all your eggs in one basket? Why don’t you make more friends?”.
I had a decent friend group, but like I said before, they moved or left school.
So, I went through the majority of my senior year alone.
I would sit by myself at lunch day in and day out, watching the clock until I could go to my next class of the day.
I stalled for time a lot during lunch, talking long walks down the hallway under the guise of, “going to the bathroom”.
I was so lonely and feeling like the socially awkward kid I was when I was little, unable to talk to people.
Life felt pointless and I felt unloved. The one friend I loved deeply wanted nothing to do with me.
That itself made me want to just end everything, to say, “Fuck it” and off myself.
But, then hope came.
I will forever remember the day my mind had gotten creative in my loneliness, it had given me a sort of imaginary friend (a hallucination, as my sister calls it, since teenagers don’t normally have imaginary friends).
Vivid as all hell, I had seen Payton Hobart and his friends sitting in the hall, talking to each other like everything was normal.
They would never talk to me, but Payton would often look at me and nod, as if to encourage me to get through the rest of the day. That’s how I had taken it. (I didn’t know what to make of it the first few times I saw him, as I didn’t consciously make him show up)
I wasn’t alone anymore.
And then, as the school year went on, I would see Payton in empty seats in my classes.
He was a fill-in for the one friend I barely had.
An source of comfort, a familiar face, even though we never talked to one another.
His presence was there to tell me that I wasn’t alone.
There would be times on my walk home from the bus where I would rant to myself, venting and ranting and rambling about the day I had at school and Payton would appear, just to nod and to listen.
I never see him now, my subconscious mind doesn’t create him anymore, because I am not lonely anymore. I have friends whom I can talk to now, friends from the aforementioned friend group that fell apart thanks to Covid.
I’m a much happier person than I was during the majority of senior year, but I am grateful for my imaginary friend.
I don’t know what inspired me to talk about this, but I wanted to talk about because it’s such a strange thing, to have an imaginary friend as a teenager (which many people see as inappropriate or weird).
But the show means a lot to me, it got me through the toughest times of my life, through having no one, but also through the good times, such as writing an essay on the show and having it heavily praised by many teachers and displayed in the public library.
Thank you to anyone who read this, I hope you enjoyed my long-winded, partially pathetic, rambling about a little Netflix series.

The past couple weeks have been pretty intense, emotionally. Good, bad, weird, all three, but intense all ‘round.
The Monday before last, E. shared a post of J.L.’s on Facebook & I had to go thru the thing I’ve gone thru so many times already: Do I tell her he abused me & risk her disbelief & the loss of our friendship? Or do I say nothing & just feel super super gross forever & probably lose the friendship anyway because I’ll feel too uncomfortable hanging out with her while knowing she’s friendly with him? I decided to tell her, and ultimately she responded the way I’d hoped she would, but I was up half the night feeling nauseous & panicky. This is like the fourth or fifth time I’ve had to go through this re: J.L. Which, I guess, is not shocking; he’s a well-known guy in the Milwaukee DIY/arts scene. So yeah, not shocking, but it still sucks that I have to keep going thru this.
In the wee hours of that Monday night/Tuesday morning, just before I finally fell asleep, was the blood moon/eclipse. & when I woke a few hours later I was bleeding. That day was the midterm elections & I wanted to make a joke about I’ve got your red wave right here or something. Speaking of—boy, am I glad that the promised red wave did not happen.
That day, and for a few days after, I went thru a bout of mania the likes of which I haven’t seen in a while. There’s still a part of me that wants to fall back into the old self-destructive tendencies. Y’know, they get manic & wanna get stupid drunk about it, or fuck a stranger about it, & they get a little ornery that they can’t. But it is fortunate that, these days, I can sometimes harness my manic energy in more positive ways. I used this bout to get a bunch of housecleaning done, & work on my novella, & then... I was listening to Endless Possibility, the tribute to Jack Terricloth, & there were all these clips of him talking, & in one of them he said: It’s hard to live in the past, it’s hard to live in the future—we live absolutely in the moment. Now is the only time. Do not ever wait. The only answer is yes. & hearing that spurred me into beginning to put the finishing touches on the revised & updated edition of What We Talk About When We Talk About Punk.
Saturday the 12th we celebrated D.’s 11th birthday. His actual birthday was the 13th, but we decided to celebrate with my parents that night, at my mom’s studio, so we could watch the holiday parade. My mom saw my new haircut for the first time. She’d seen me a couple times already since I cut it, but I’d hidden it with a scarf or hat because I knew she’d make a comment & I wasn’t ready to deal with that yet. Sure enough, when she saw it, she visibly winced, then said: “Oh, Jess, really? I keep thinking you’ll grow out of doing that kind of thing.” My response was: “I keep thinking you’ll get used to me doing this kind of thing.” Then she said: “I mean, it’s your hair, you can do whatever you want, but you look so pretty with normal hair.” I just shrugged, cuz we’ve had this ‘discussion’ (& other, similar ones) approximately 5000 times in the past 28 years & she doesn’t get that I’m not trying to be pretty. I mean, yes, I like to feel pretty sometimes, but a. I certainly don’t want to be pretty in a conventional way, and b. overall, I am not going for pretty. I’m going for jolie-laide. I don’t want to be merely pretty, I want to be hot & a little intimidating.
I don’t know. She & I have been having some problems lately, in general, & they’re all the same troublesome dynamic we’ve always had. I love her but sometimes her comments & passive-aggressiveness just exhaust me.
The next day, between cooking, reading, & playing with the kiddos, I had several moments of professional jealousy/envy. I got really down about the trajectory of my career vs. other people’s careers & felt too sad about it to work on my novella that day (though I did work on a prose poem about why I wasn’t working on my novella).
But, the very next evening, I attended Library of America’s (virtual) lecture & Q&A with Todd Tietchen & Jean-Christophe Cloutier, the editor & translator, respectively, of LOA’s book The Unknown Kerouac. It helped me get past feeling sorry for myself. For many reasons, not the least of which was their mention of Jack writing: I hope it’s true that a man can die, and not only live in others, but give them life. Which in turn made me think of Sarah Manguso’s essay about the true purpose of being a serious writer: If people read your work and, as a result, choose life, then you are doing your job. It made my envy of others’ successes seem petty, made me remember— My purpose is not to receive accolades, my purpose is to write & to get my work out there so that the people who need it can find it, & it can give them life.
So, after the Q&A ended, I got back to work on my memory project. (Kerouac considered his entire oeuvre a memory project, a la Proust, & I see myself/my work in that same lineage.)
Thursday, I went to the Racine Art Museum with my mom. We did that last year near her birthday, too, and it was so nice that it has become our new tradition. I always love going to RAM; I feel so blessed that we have such a great art museum in this mid-sized midwest town. The new exhibits that have been added since I went there back in August are phenomenal. & the zodiac-themed virtual community art show my piece is part of? They had an iPad mounted on the wall, scrolling thru all the pieces in the show, & it was really fucking cool to see mine there. I know it was only on a small screen, but still. To see my art in a real fucking art museum? Kinda mind-blowing.
In other news:
Some of my nearest & dearest have been going thru some health scares. (Thankfully, I now know for sure that one of them was just that—a scare.) Little C. has been relentlessly moody, & I guess I’ve been pretty moody, too. I’ve been horny a lot & also sad a lot.
I’ve got a new crush. I know nothing can, or will, ever come of it, but I don’t mind so much. Crush energy, much like mania, is something I’ve learned to harness in more positive ways, most of the time. I don’t need to pursue my crush, I don’t need to pine, I can make them my muse & channel the energy into writing & art. & I’ve been deep in nostalgia—what else is new—longing for a hundred thousand people, places, moments from my past. Currently, I’m missing the winter I worked in a flower shop in Chicago, & the winter I ice skated once a week in downtown Milwaukee. But, at least nostalgia is another energy I can channel into art. My whole life is a memory project.

WHERE IN THE HECK IS NORTH SPRINGS MUSIC FESTIVAL?
That’s a REALLY good question—and if you’re an avid music fan, it’s an even better question. From some of the biggest names in music to the up and comers you must know, North Springs Music Festival has it all. Trust us, you’ll want to know the answer by this October!
Situated in picturesque Whitleyville, Tennessee, the farm of Dustin Kennedy changes from pastures galore to a music haven for music fans far and wide when autumn rolls around. Amid cooling temps and falling leaves, the stage is set on (proverbial) fire as those who flock to “the little music festival that could” deep in the mountains fall deeply in love with the music and mission of NSMF. Held October 11th and 12th of this year, NSMF is THE destination for a family friendly festival that is focused on two things: quality tunes and FUN! Come along as we chat with the festival organizer about this upcoming event that is quickly becoming a coveted favorite among music festivals in the South—both by bands and fans alike. Interview begins below:
Tumblr media
L: Hey there Dustin! Thanks for joining us today to discuss what you've got cookin’ down in Tennessee. We're beyond stoked to join you to take in the stellar lineup you've curated this October in Whitleyville—for newcomers like us, can you give us a little background on how NSMF began?
D: Thank you for having me--and I sure can! NSMF got kicked off in 2020 right during all the madness of the pandemic, but we were outside and tired of the madness. It [attendees] consisted of almost all local folks outside of our original out of state ticket buyer, Kristen Heflin. The county donated a wooden stage used at various county functions. It was the only time that one was used. The initial show was headlined by Rye Davis and Branden Martin. It rained like hell, but like Deana Carter would say, "we danced anyway." *laughs*
L: Love it! Looking back, I recall a lot of new festivals popping up in 2020 because it seemed like people were so ready to live again...I know we were! We kept the roads hot between Indiana and Alabama going to as many shows as we could. I'm a little sad to know we missed the inagural festival and the ones the past few years, but so excited to get to witness the magic this fall. What was your inspiration for the festival, aside from giving the proverbial finger to the craziness of 2020? Has running a successful music festival always been a dream of yours?
D: I went to a small living room show in Lexington in 2017 hosted by Jeff Cox. Fifty people sitting in one small room listening to Justin Wells & Jason Eady. That kinda got my wheels spinning. So in 2019, I rented our county fairgrounds event building and hosted four acoustic songwriter shows, one of which being Jason Eady & Courtney Patton. After the show, I just sorta blurted out to Jason that I wanted to one day host a music festival on my family's farm and if I ever did, I'd love for him to be a part of it. That was in March of 2019, and by October 2020, as small as that first NSMF was, it had become a reality.
L: Ol’ Jeff Cox—he's one of the good ones! Isn't it crazy how small this music world really is and how quickly an idea can grow? I love a good grassroots story...and it's amazing to see what you've accomplished in the seven years since speaking that dream into the universe and bringing it to life. Tell us, what is your mission/motto for NSMF; what do you hope to achieve with this festival in the present and future derivatives of it?
D: One of my best friends, Clint Fraley, recently said it best. He said " You've caused old friends to come together to have a good time. What better achievement in life than causing others to have fun and forget about their troubles?" I've said in other interviews that we don't all agree on religion, politics or sports, but music brings people together, and it's a beautiful thing. But also, country music has lost its way from where it was when we all grew up. Some people only see country music as the pop stuff they hear on their radio that we all spend way too much time hating on, myself included. Or they still listen to only the legends, which is fine, but I want to do my part to help people discover all these awesome independent acts who may be under their radar. Music is easier to find now more than ever. You just have to dig to find the stuff you won't ever see on CMT or your local country radio station. Listen to the cats over on WSKY, and you'll discover all the independent acts you want!
Tumblr media
L: Preach, my friend! That is one of the reasons HHMR's founder Nathan began this review back in 2019, to bring focus to all the amazing indie artists in the Kentucky region. When I came aboard in 2020, I made it my mission to expand that coverage beyond Appalachia, because there is just so much good music out there and insanely talented artists that may never get the recognition they deserve without the efforts of independent journalism and venues/festivals! Speaking of all those good tunes, I’m curious—when you go to a show or a festival, are you more pumped to see the bands you're familiar with or catch the "no one knows who they are" up-and-comers?
D: If he lives to be 100 years old, I will never get tired of seeing Hank Williams Jr. live. He's the greatest of all time to me. I never got to see Waylon live which really disappoints me, so I always make it a point to cross the legends off the bucket list. But as far as new music, I work a pretty demanding full time job. I'm married with 3 kids and have some other hobbies, so it is hard to find time to discover new music. I depend heavily on others to suggest new stuff to me. They're out here doing God's work for us music lovers! I'm definitely not a "skip the opener" guy because those guys have been known to steal the show once or twice. The coolest act I ever got to see early on was in June 2012 when Shooter Jennings, who has done so much for independent music over the years, hosted a Waylon tribute show, and he introduced a cat named Sturgill Simpson to the crowd, one full year before High Top Mountain came out. I know others knew him already, but I certainly did not. Even better, that was my first time seeing Whitey Morgan and Justin Wells (one of my favorite people both professionally and personally now) that night as well. Also seeing Tyler Childers at Grimey's record store for under 100 people probably and later that night at The Basement East for $12. Little cheaper than his current arena tour! Always go to the show.
L: Yes! Always go to the show! Some of the acts on NSMF's lineup this year I have known for quite sometime whether personally or professionally, and I have thoroughly enjoyed both watching and experiencing their trajectories first hand over the past several years. I will never forget driving to Montgomery one night to see Taylor Hunnicutt open for Rod Gator at a little trailer bar/driving range in the middle of nowhere. It was a rainy evening which likely killed attendance, but man…it was magical. I was one of the only ones there for the show and when it was Rod's time to perform Taylor and I just danced to his whole set in the rain. Now look at her go! Playing NSMF and tons of festivals across the country this year. It's so fun to see these bands we love succeed! So, I purposely haven't mentioned the lineup yet because I want people to take in the whole poster at the end of this interview and be as amazed at the level of talent as we are, but I'd like to hear your music recommendations before we get into festival info. Who are you listening to these days, whether they're on the lineup or not, that you think people need to hear? And why?
D: The legends like Hank Jr, Waylon, Keith Whitley, George Jones…they'll always be in rotation. Same for Shooter, Ragweed, Jamey Johnson, Justin Wells and Chris Knight. My 3 favorite independent acts are Cody Jinks, Jason Eady and Cole Chaney, who is a badass that everybody needs to learning if they're sleeping [on him]. Them Dirty Roses have one of the best live shows going! Huge fan of Charles Wesley Godwin and 49 Winchester. Should not even have to mention Stapleton, Childers and Sturgill. I'm digging that new Zach Top album! As far as the festival goes, I'm excited to see Low Water Bridge Band, Ritch Henderson, Hunter Flynn, Sam Lowe, Waylon Hanel, The Comancheros, Parker Barrow and Bill Taylor and the Appalachian Heatherns all for the first time live. Then, I never do an interview where I won't mention the names of Addison Johnson, Rye Davis, Tony Logue, Tim Goodin and Wes Shipp. If you're not listening to any of those guys, stop reading this right now and change that! I'm really liking that new Taylor Hunnicutt album. Beyond fired up to have her and the boys at the festival this year. Being a long time fan of the Jennings Family, I’m very excited to have Whey headlining Friday night! Lastly, I think Ward Davis is a genius. He's one I've been wanting for the festival for quite some time so to have him as the 2024 headliner is very cool for me.
Tumblr media
L: Well there you have it readers, a little sneak peak to the absolutely mindblowing lineup Dustin and his team have put together this year—but don't worry, there's even MORE fantastic artists to see down at the farm. I have a feeling it's going to be hard to top 2024's lineup, but at the same time I have a feeling you have more tricks up your sleeve, Dustin! Who do you hope to book for future NSMFs?
D: I'm a huge Courtney Patton fan. For whatever reason, we can never make NSMF work out. Same for Taylor Austin Dye and Mae Estes. They're in Nashville so I should've already done that. Some others will be retreads that maybe have only played once that I'd love to bring back. There are young acts like Jake Kohn and Blaine Bailey. I want to do some acoustic shows with songwriting geniuses like Billy Don Burns, Kendell Marvel and Josh Morningstar. I don't have huge corporate sponsors. I don't have tourism dollars. I'm funded strictly by local businesses who band together for me to ensure this show goes on and ticket buyers who keep coming back so I don't have the luxury to go get some of the names people ask for because musicians aren't cheap nor should they be! So I have to go into each year being very strategic. My eyes can get a little big, but you have to be realistic. I have to say that I have a great working relationship with Josh Green, who works for WME. I've had the pleasure of hosting some really cool acts that probably don't get done if Josh did not trust the passion and vision I laid on him each time we talk. He's one of the coolest dudes out there, and I'm very appreciative of him being willing to work with me each year!
L: Man, those would all be fantastic shows. I have no doubt you'll accomplish your end goal with NSMF because from the looks of it people are steadily flocking to your little slice of paradise each year! I imagine it will only get bigger as time goes by, but will still retain that small festival, everyone is family kind of feel. Now—onto the attendees, you mentioned your first out-of-town ticket buyer back in 2020 a bit ago. So far, what is the furthest state/location you've had someone travel from for the show? What is your guess for this year as far as ticket sales to this point?
D: We had a couple from Norway last year, which was very cool! This year we have folks coming from Canada and Germany. As far as inside the United States, I think the record is being set by Mary Suminski, coming all the way from Alaska! I'd be remised, however, if I did not mention the large groups of folks coming from Alabama, Indiana and the LARGE group known simply as "The Florida Tribe!" Then there is my man, Bruce Twyman, who I have been told needs to calm the F down! But everyone knows Bruce, so yeah...it's going to be one big family reunion out in the hayfield.
L: *Laughs* I've been there a time or two. It sounds like you've certainly created a safe haven for music lovers both near and far—and what a testament to the work you've done, as well as the passion for this underground, indie music scene! Before we dive into important festival deets, can you share with me your favorite festival memory from years past?
D: I'm a huge Cross Canadian Ragweed fan so Cody Canada & The Departed headlining last year was huge for me. Jason Eady headlining in 2022 was pretty special since he was the first person I ever mentioned the idea of this thing to. Cole Chaney has played twice, acoustic and full band so it was cool to see that progression. Lastly, Julie Roberts stole the show in 2021 when all the ladies in the crowd got to take their turns singing the classic "Break Down Here." Those all definitely stand out! But for me with each year, it's shaking the hands of the people who travel so far to come be a part of this festival. Taking a chance on it. But, like I always tell the musicians, if you ever come here, you're going to be playing to some of the most loyal fans you will ever have. They're gonna come to more shows, buy the merch. You won't regret it and some come back every year! Same to be said for ticket buyers. They had never heard of North Springs, but man, there is something special about this place. Us locals, it's "God's Country" to us. People who have been will agree. And on a selfish note, this farm has been in my family since the late 1800's so to bring something so cool to a farm and be fortunate enough to still have my dad, aunt and grandpa still living and being present at the festival on the farm they've grown up on, worked and hunted on, is pretty damn cool to me. Also having my wife and children being here making those memories, it's a great feeling!
Tumblr media
L: We love our music family and a festival that supports that kinship is our kind of place. I know that's got to be mighty special to be adding to the NSMF family with each ticket sold while also honoring your ancestors on sacred ground. From listening to you describe it, it certainly sounds like the festival prides itself on having a good time while building true connections. So, what is the overall vibe of the festival? Party crowd, listening room, a mix of both—that sort of thing…basically what can newcomers expect to see and how should they plan to behave?
D: So every year, early in the day it tends to be a little more laid back, people lounging in their chairs. Usually, as the sun goes down and people get a little more liquid courage, they make their way to the front of the stage. But no, this is no listening room. I host acoustic shows throughout the year for that. I want this to be a party in the hay field. If anything, I wish everyone would get to the front of the stage earlier to show the same love to the acts all day long. People dancing and singing at that stage is what we are all about.
L: Funny you should say that, we at HHMR are definitely a front of the stage bunch! Our friends over at Raised Rowdy live and preach the phrase "front row or don't go" and it's one we try to honor every show—we feel it's the best way to experience the high of the music. Any pertinent details interested attendees should know prior to making their way North Springs to claim their front row spot?
D: Ticket prices are $50 each day or $90 for both days. Non-electric camping is $10 per person daily or $25 for the whole weekend if you come in Thursday night to set up. Generators are allowed. I do not sell alcohol, BUT you can bring your own coolers in for $5 or $10 depending on the cooler size. Just act like you've been in public before! There will be food and shopping vendors on site. Internet is spotty at best so bring as much cash as you can to help move all lines quicker. If you're driving in keep the GPS on the whole time until you pull in (Just ask Them Dirty Roses last year laughs. Dogs are allowed as long as they're on leashes. No showers on site, but Porta Potties will be on site. No fires directly on the grounds, but fire pits allowed if needed. People can begin setting up to camp on Thursday morning to be ready for the kick-off party in Gainesboro that night. Friday show will kick off tentatively at 3PM but subject to change. Saturday will likely will be a 1PM start time!
L: Oh, Them Dirty Roses. That seems to be a habit of theirs *laughs*. I'm giggling because one night when they played a show at Laurel Cove they were coming in late and if you've ever been to Pineville or Pine Mountain Resort State Park, you know just how mountainous it is and how easy it is to get lost in the curves. Service is spotty, I got there for the weekend first and my pal Andrew (TDR's guitarist) was frantically texting me trying to figure out where they were supposed to be—they took that big red van and trailer all over that big curvy road in a circle because they missed the turn! So readers, trust that GPS with your life going to Pineville AND North Springs! Okay, switching gears from funny stories and we could be here all day because I've got a ton of them—tell me a little about the kick-off show you mentioned. Sounds like a helluva good time!
D: Last year was only one day on the farm, and the kickoff party was At Roaring River Distillery in Gainesboro, 15 minutes away. Being such a small rural county, a lot of the local businesses did well with so many from out of state coming into the county. This year with us extending to 2 days on the farm, I was afraid a lot of the businesses might not get as much traffic so it was important to me to have a kickoff party so the square in Gainesboro is full once again. Chris Edwards from Mountain View Talent reached out and wanted to partner up. We discussed the options and quickly agreed on a lineup, headlined by Dallas Moore and Clint Park. Next was getting The Bull & Thistle Pub on board to host. The bar side sold out in one weekend while very few $10 dining side seats remain. This will be a little bit more of the listening room experience. Hopefully all the other businesses in town will see a spike like last year from the kickoff party!
Tumblr media
L: Good grief, what a lineup! If potential attendees think the kickoff party is to die for, I wonder what they'll think when they see the full spectrum of talent for the festival. Minds will certainly be boggled! It's a work of heart and art between the hard work you put in to curate it and the fantastic poster Jimbo Valentine created to promote it. Well, that's all the time we have today, Dustin, thank you so much for joining us to give us an inside look at North Springs Music Festival! We can't wait to meet ya at the farm!
D: I appreciate your time and asking these questions to promote NSMF. Sorry for the long winded answers. *Laughs* I could talk music all day!
L: As could we! See you soon!

SECRETARY:
What are you talking about?
MAYOR:
Guess there's no use denying it
anymore. You were right, we DO know
what is happening. This office have
in secret worked to prevent Him, the
Rat God, from getting free. There's
this ritual that needs to be
performed once every lunar cycle.
This time, we failed to start it in
time, and that's when the holes
started emerging. The thing is, the
knowledge of this ritual is highly
classified. I knew about it, as have
every mayor before me, but only one
individual is allowed to know what to
do.
SECRETARY:
And?
MAYOR:
And he's dead, damn it. he was
murdered. Wrong place at the wrong
time, nothing we could have done. But
now, the secret died with him. I've
been searching day and night for some
document, anything, that can tell us
what the ritual entails, and we got
nothing. But trying to COVER UP the
holes? That's the last thing
anyone
needs.
SECRETARY:
What can we do?
MAYOR:
Nothing. The Rat God will have their
followers break open the ground, they
will free him. Once that happens,
there'll be no stopping His evil
plans, his influence will grow. Even
rumbling continues in the background
now, I can feel him, probing my
consciousness.
