Bone & Bein
The word bone has the same origin as German Bein, Dutch been, and Swedish ben, which mean both 'bone' and 'leg'. These nouns are thought to stem from an adjective meaning 'straight'. It lives on in Icelandic beinn and Norwegian be(i)n 'straight; right'.

In the down part of the Netherlands is this province called Limburg. This is where I'm from.
And we Limburg folk have this tradition of a party/feast period. This period, we call 'Carnaval' (Dutch) or 'Vastelaovend' (local Limburgish dialect).
In this feast period, there will be parades in basicly every town, CarnaLaovend party songs, and lots, and lots, of dress-up. One big costume party!! You wanna be a doctor you can dress up as a doctor! Wanna be a creepy something dress up like a creepy something! Wanna be a clown, you know the drill! You come to Limburg NL during the CarnaLaovend period, expect to see lotssss of sometimes very weird and random!! dress ups lol.
Can u imagine that to the Limburg folk this is concidered normal haha
Some people also like to dress up as anthro animals. I was one of them ✌️🦌

Theodoor van Loon - The Martyrdom of Saint Lambert - 1616/17
Lambert of Maastricht, commonly referred to as Saint Lambert (Latin: Lambertus; Middle Dutch: Sint-Lambrecht; Limburgish: Lambaer, Baer, Bert(us); c. 636 – c. 705 AD) was the bishop of Maastricht-Liège (Tongeren) from about 670 until his death. Lambert denounced Pepin's liaison with his mistress Alpaida, the mother of Charles Martel. The bishop was murdered during the political turmoil that developed when various families fought for influence as the Merovingian dynasty gave way to the Carolingians. He is considered a martyr for his defence of marriage. His feast day is September 17.
Theodoor van Loon (1581 or 1582, in Erkelenz – 1649, in Maastricht) was a Flemish Baroque painter.

English (he/she) eats, Welsh ysa, Ancient Greek édei, Sanskrit átti and Polish je all stem from the same Indo-European verb. Over time, words change beyond recognition, undergoing regular sound changes and irregular alterations. Here's the family of eats.

how many languages do you speak? 😮
Two fluently (English and Dutch). And then three moderately, all of which I understand better than speak them... :') those are French, German and Melaju sini (Ambonese Malay).

Omgg you are the most dedicated f1 scholar 🤯🤯 how do you know that tree so far back, you are absolutely 💯
Me and my girlfriend are two sick peas in the freak pod! I have autism. She found the family tree by literally googling. Jos is fun to pick apart from like, a research/archival standpoint bc there's less to go on than with Max, and there's that divide he straddles between analog and digital media. It feels like a treasure hunt! We rooted through Dutch Devil fanzine listings on eBay and got a lot of photos and information from the previews alone:) I have some more insane lore I haven't even gotten into yet that finally helped me shape a thesis on why Max is the way he is.
It's great how much is absolutely open access and public, largely posted BY the Verstappens or the fan club from the 90s-00s. There's some scrapbooking from that time that my girlfriend found on Instagram. I learned a lot by combing through verstappen.nl and by reading comments on Dutch-language articles in other publications (which is how I learned that a lot of Dutch people see Jos in the framework of him being a Limburger, therefore coarse/rural/poor...he is aware of these things and has said he "did pretty good for a hick" which is my best translation). I also know a decent amount of Dutch and have learned a lot from Dutch-only interviews Jos has given (some good Limburgs publications which don't use subtitles) so I've also learned a lot about the family identities and language use (Jos speaks some Limburgish, a separate regional language which he refers to as "dialect". It's like his language 1.5, learned it alongside Dutch but never was fluent. Max doesn't speak more than a couple of words and has no attachment to the region).

GUYS, THE STRANGEST THING EVER JUST OCCURRED (kind of): I was googling myself, and again, I came across this girl. I've came across her ever since I started social media. Why? We have an identical name. Now, I know this can happen, it's not so strange, except for me having a very rare name which is why you barely get any search results with my name. My first name is an English one, instead of Dutch, and my last name stems from one of the Netherlands' officially recognized minority languages, Limburgs/Limburgish which is spoken in the province of Limburg. So the odds of me sharing the exact same name as this girl are pretty abyssmal, but it's still true. I actually checked her out this time and she seems to be a body builder turnt influencer who failed at making it. Her website for work-out programs seems to stem from 2019 and she was 22 around the time. She's probably only a year older! It's literally creepy. I've got an identity-twin out there. Perhaps that's why Johnny Sins sent me a request on Snapchat once...
Damn it girl, whatcha doing?! Please don't tell me you've got an OnlyFans after you failed as a bodybuilder and you're revealing your real name from time to time because you're under the same impression I used to be- that the other girl (me) is just using a fake name and that we cannot possibly really share the same first name.
I'm sorry, but I'm real honey and if you dare to go into the sex industry then as a future children's author I'm getting very worried about the possibility of my fanbase coming across yours if you drop your real name across the internet. This is exactly why I'm againt sharing mine on my blog where I produce the occasional naughty fanfics. I don't want my child audiences to come across my blog amongst the search results. I'm trying my best to keep my tracks clean, but it's damn difficult if my name slowly gets leaked into the sex industry because some daft girl with the exact same name is not doing the best job at hiding hers. Fuck identity issues.

I collect translations of Alice in Wonderland and Le petit prince because I enjoy both books, and find reading a familiar text is a helpful exercise when learning a language. my collections are still pretty small atm because I've mainly focused on languages I'm actually interested in
I've been going through my West Germanic languages section, and the current status is a little surprising. I somehow have neither text in German, which is like the biggest language in the group after English and I studied it at uni. surprisingly also missing the Dutch Petit prince. but I do have both texts in West Frisian and YIVO Yiddish, which are my favourite languages in this branch tbh
hopefully I can pick up an edition or two while I'm in the Europe next month (recommendations appreciated for good bookstores (used and new) in the Utrecht, Amsterdam and Ghent areas !).
it does seem like the Limburgish/Maastricht-dialect translation of Alice is out of print. can't find it on the Uitgeverij TIC webshop anymore ?
