Fun fact: back in 2012, on this very blog, I made a post about American Girl dolls I’d like to see. One included a Black girl growing up during the civil rights movement and listening to Motown music. So yes, I’d love to take credit for Melody. But her actual creation goes back to a tweet someone made that I can’t find a link to right now. AG and the civil rights/motown era is SUCH a natural match, it’s kind of baffling it took until 2016 for Melody to finally come out. Being that she was a part of the “BeForever” line, it’s beyond infuriating that she only got two books.
THE GOOD NEWS IS BeForever was kind of a disaster for AG and they’ve done away with the brand. Claudie was released with Meet Claudie and her next book is Travels with Claudie so she definitely looks like she’s returning to the six book format. I doubt that the other girls released under the BeForever line (Nanea, Maryellen and Courtney) will get their full six books, which makes me so angry. I mean, given that Nanea is kind of specific to JUST pearl harbor, I can sooort of understand her having just two (even though I DEFINITELY think she should have gotten six. Hawaiian history and culture deserve a full six books). Given that Courtney is in the 80s, and a lot of what was controversial in the 80s is still controversial today, I can see how AG would be very very very hesitant to seriously dig into 80s history and politics, although six books in which Ronald Reagan and The Moral Majority are the bad guys would fucking rule. But for Maryellen and Melody it is bullshit of the highest order that they only got 2 books, especially when you consider that Maryellen’s big story is super bland bullshit about her struggling to stand out in her big family and not so much about confronting the sexist and racist cultural bullshit of the 50s. BUT she gets massive bonus points for covering the Salk vaccine (a major turning-point in history that doesn’t get NEARLY the amount of love and attention it deserves) and for having an amazing collection.
Melody being only two books is unforgivable. COMPLETELY UNFORGIVABLE. You cannot fit the enormity of civil rights and Motown and the 60s in general into just two books. All that being said, however, the two books they gave her seem to do a massive job with the tiny bit of space they were given. First of all, the advisory board for Melody is STACKED. Secondly, the trailer for Melody: Love Has to Win is the shit of Ron DeSantis’s nightmares:
youtube
A LITTLE BLACK GIRL REFUSING THE SAY THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE AND SAYING THAT AMERICA IS UNJUST?! That’s the sound of millions of pearls being clutched all across the nation. I’m honestly shocked Moms for Liberty weren’t burning Melody’s books in the streets. I am hereby a Melody stan now and forever. I still SINCERELY hope she gets a re-release with her full six books and a much bigger collection. Because for real Melody may be my new favorite doll (although that could change depending on what kind of collection Claudie gets).

Kisame’s Daily Texts from the Akatsuki
From Deidara
Me and Tobi found a big muddy hole full of earthworms, let’s go fishing! 😁
We finished it last night, sorry
I was just teasing him!
Exploding or boring?
Not a tea person but thanks anyway
LMAOOO he probably pissed himself 🤣
Pls tell Itachi I’m not gonna hurt her I just want to pet her for a while!
Leader said he’ll kill us if we do it again so no probably not 😓
You gotta use the conditioner too or else it won’t be effective
I’ll ask him but he don’t really like places like that. Says they’re too happy 🙄
From Hidan
If you have two does that mean one sleeps while the other fucks or ?
No offense but it’s literally so boring I can’t sit still that long
I would say he’s giving you blue balls but.
Can’t imagine giving a shit but 🤷‍♂️
Tried that once. Got the mask halfway off and suddenly felt like I was drowning. Never again.
Old bastard said no 😑
You need to watch him he takes like two bites and pushes the plate away
How? Half of us are gay half are insane and some are both 🤣
One dick, two dicks, your dicks, BLUE dicks! Lol get it??
From Sasori
Thanks but water erodes my “skin”.
I’m done reading it, you can borrow if you like.
Please make sure he puts on sunscreen he’s too stubborn to listen to me.
Don’t really remember all that well but I believe it was ice cream.
He has to *want* treatment and so far he’s turned down every offer Kakuzu or myself has made.
They make for more appealing puppets if they have some unique physical characteristic while they’re still living.
I’ll probably marry him some day but first he has to work on not blowing himself to bits.
Oh of course. You know you don’t need to ask.
From Kakuzu
Hey I almost beat you and I’m 60+ years your senior.
Just this once … no charge. Worth it to see him freak out like that.
I’m not very well-versed in animal anatomy but I can take a look and try my best.
EVERYBODY pays. Itachi too.
Fits nice. My thanks.
This place is falling apart, if it’s not one thing it’s another.
It’s annoying but I don’t see any serious long-term effects.
From Konan
That’s so sweet, thank you ☺️
Write down the exact kind for me, I’ll pick it up the next time I go to the market.
He’s a sweetheart isn’t he? 🥰
I’ll take your word for it, but ducks are so cute I don’t think I could eat one.
Come to my room I have some eye drops that’ll help him.
If I let that happen no work would ever be done and they’d likely kill each other.
So many miles, with these heels it’s hard on my feet.
If you want it that rare then there’s really no point to me cooking it at all 😒
At this point the yelling has become background music.
Me on one shoulder and Itachi on the other. You big show-off 😁
From Tobi/Obito
You only beat me because Deidara distracted me!
Forty cookies isn’t even that many. Plus Itachi ate two more.
Kakuzu said to earn the money myself so I stole one of his bounties 🤷🏻‍♂️
Itches. A LOT.
Can’t stand tea but if you have any hot chocolate, yeah.
You should hang out with Zetsu more often then. Like one never-ending picnic.
He really wants to go but I don’t have a pole. You have a spare?
Yeah but he might let us get a fish-tank if YOU said you needed it, like for health or something
Sushi? Isn’t that cannibalism?!
Fuck him AND his perfect ass. Literally and figuratively.
Don’t give me that “kid” shit, we’re like the same age!
From Zetsu
You want to split that guy’s leg with me? He was very fat, lots of good meat 😋
He’s a good man but doesn’t his dubious emotional state concern you?
It’s a lot like hearing two voices at once. Constantly.
It’s no fun if they don’t scream a bit first. You know this.
I did the scouting; that lake about five miles up the road is both deep and fairly clean.
Let’s hide under his bed and scare him. I bet money we can get him to soil himself while crying for that damn Jashin 🤣
From Nagato
I thank you for the tea. It helped me to sleep.
Well, keep an eye on him.
The pain is worse when I stand but Sasori is working on prosthetics for me that may solve the problem.
As long as you return in time for your next mission.
Get that looked at as soon as possible. We can’t afford to have you out of commission.
I do, but she deserves so much better than myself.
I’ll speak to Kakuzu about getting you a new one.
If you two are going to do that, please keep it away from our hideouts. It disturbs Konan to hear the screaming.
From Itachi
I ate this morning. Promise.
That wasn’t Hidan’s fault, I’d forgotten to take my pill so my reflexes were slow.
Just consider it. Uchiha Kisame. Say it out loud. It’s beautiful 😌
Can you check if I left that shirt in your room?
Dei and I went there last night. The manager banned us for life because Dei set off a C3 in the men’s room. 😑
Fine. You buy the skirt I’ll “model” it for you.
Sad. Come stay with me please.
You worry too much.
That picture is for YOUR EYES ONLY.
Aww what do you mean? Kitty loves you she’s not trying to eat you!
It’s one that Konan gave me. It’s really good you’d probably like it too.
Tea?
I didn’t *fall* in, he *pushed* me. Big difference.
Mom taught me when I was younger. I can teach you too if you want.
You’re mine too. Always ❤️

Hiya!
I'm sort of a puppy punk I think and I haven't found any local punk stuff to go to n learn abt it irl, but from what I've found online, most people say that the music is the most important part of being a punk? Or like, if you don't listen to the music you're not really punk. Or at least that's the impression I got? I find the typical punk music overwhelming though, and don't listen to much bc of that, but I'm curious: what defines punk music? And is it such a music based subculture that you can't participate without the music?
- 🌇
Hmmmmmm. I know a decent number of people are going to disagree with my stance on this. And they are entitled to their own opinions. So take that into consideration as you make up your own mind about it.
While punk certainly is a music based subculture, I don't think you NEED to listen to punk music to be a punk. And I'm going to explain why.
First and foremost, what is punk music? Great question. Its also a kind of a hard question to answer. I cant really explain a specific sound. Because The Ramones, Green Day, and Misfits are all considered punk. And they all sound SO different. So what is it that ties punk music together? Content. Values. Statements.
Punk music doesnt rely on skill, it evolved from garage rock bands of the 60s. Punk music is for any and everyone who wants to make it. But its the lyrics that are important to it. Popular punk songs, both old and modern, all have lyrics that reflect punk values. Thats it. Thats the only real, definitive answer I can give you on what punk music is.
And part of that is because genres blur. A lot. I should know. I DJ and part of that job is knowing what songs are good 'inbetween' songs as I transition between genres sounds. For example: Rage Against The Machine. When you look up what genre music they make, you get rap metal, rap rock, alt metal. But we can all look at what their music says and go 'thats punk!'. Despite the Ramones being one of the most popular punk bands of the 70s, some people argue that they aren't punk, but proto-punk.
My point is, when it comes to defining a genre AND making it a requirement to be a part of a community, the only thing it will lead to is arguing over whether or not a band is 'punk enough' to count. And thats just too much bs for me to care about to be honest.
On top of that, while punk IS a music based subculture. There is more to it than just music. Because its a CULTURE. Cultures are not limited to simply music. Sure, thats how it started, but its grown SO much in the last 50 some years. Its a lifestyle filled with its own values now. DIY, anti-authoritarianism, anti-government, zines, jackets. I can go on. But this is already going to be a long post.
My point is simply that there is so much more that we should be worried about than music. And if we as a community put so much focus on listening to the right music rather than every other piece of culture that we have built up and been handed down, then we risk losing it all. You can have 'punk' music all you want, but whats the point when we aren't worried about preserving anything else? We'll just end up with a bunch of sell-out bands with no real substance.
And at the end of the day, when all is said and done, I could care less about the music that someone else listens to. I'd rather hangout with someone that cares about the values and culture. I'd rather be with someone who doesn't trust the cops and wants to DIY things. I'd rather keep company with someone who cares about all those things than someone who doesn't give two shits about punk values but listens to Discharge anyway.

This was the most recent posting of someone I'm following. Her advice is very sound and can be used by men and women accordingly. I have this to say to these young ladies who were writing to her with regards to not having a boyfriend and wishing they had one and all that other fun happy jazz.
Don't be in a hurry to grow up. Enjoy your youth. Once you graduate high school, start college, move out of your parent's house into your own apartment, and all that other sorted stuff, you become an adult. You're going to have to adult 24/7/365. And there will be times when you don't feel like adulting on a particular day. Got a news flash. You don't have an option. That is, of course, if you have a desire to have a roof over your head and food on the table. Enjoy this time of your life it will never come again. You have so much to experience before you have a boyfriend. You can't begin to imagine it.
Most boys your age are falling all over themselves to attract your attention for all the wrong reasons. Their hormones are raging, and they're trying to assert themselves as grown men when they don't know the first thing about it. These aren't the guys you want in your life. They might be okay as friends, but don't let it get any further than that.
Don't try the dressing up to look older thing. It doesn't work. Dress your age. It's okay to be your age right now. It's not okay to look all grown up and trying to experience growing up things when you are ill-prepared for them. A lot of people might try to tell you that yeah, you're prepared far more than you realize, but basically, they are full of piss and wind to put it as politely as I can. Sidney poitier, in the movie he did back in the '60s entitled To Sir With Love, had this to say on the subject; " No good man wants a woman in his life who dresses trampy. And only the worst kind of man does." This by far is the best advice for dressing according to your age. Of course if you want something a little more recent, I think Fonzie in an episode of Happy Days way back when, had this to say to Joni when she tried to look all grown up and almost got into a lot of trouble for it. He said, "Shortcake, when you put out an advertisement, someone's going to answer that ad." And when they do answer that ad, it may not be the person you want answering that ad and bad things could happen.
You shouldn't have to try so hard to attract a guy anyway. That's not your job. Your job, as crazy as this may sound, is to be attracted by the guy who looks the most interesting. Guys are supposed to be the ones that fall over themselves, making idiots of themselves, just to attract your attention because they see something in you they want in their life. And yes, guys have done some really, really dumb things to get a girl's attention. But that's what we do best. And why and how you go for it every time, only got himself has that answer and he's not talking. He likes a good secret.
To put it simply young ladies, enjoy life. The right guy will come along at the right time. Just be patient. As someone once said, "Patience is a sterling virtue. I wish I had more of it." And as you grow your patience as far as waiting for the right guy to pop into your life at the right moment, so will your wisdom to know when that happens.

Might fully write this as a whole story one day.
You come to Viktor with a serious inquiry:
“Do you know a doctor that can perform Hanahaki removal surgery?”
He was stunned at first. He didn’t even know you had feelings for someone but to ask for this?
“You know how risky that is, you could lose all love in your heart.” Viktor stated.
“Of course I do. That’s why I came to ask you. It’s been done, a successful removal. Sure the recovery period is long but I get to keep my memories with you guys. I’ll take the chance.” You were steadfast in your decision. This was the only way to rid yourself of this retched disease. You weren’t exactly happy about it either, the chance that you would lose all love for Viktor and Jace was high. However staying in love with someone until your heart breaks or you die is worse (of course you wouldn’t actually die though).
Viktor sighed, “Who is it, it you don’t mind me asking?”
You were almost too embarrassed to mention it, “Remember Sterling…”
Viktor sat up fully in his seat to really grasp the situation. Sterling was someone you both knew from your Academy days and he was a piece of work. A ‘Grade A’ jackass and flirt. It sucks that his looks matched his brains, being one of Piltover’s elites. He was destined to inherit his families company and live a life of luxury. And this, amalgamation of every stereotype rich boy, was the one causing you so much pain. Viktor could hardly believe it.
“Don’t look at me like that, I’m not proud of it either!” Your face flushed bright red. “It just…happened. We were talking and things got real for a second. I thought I saw a different side of him but it’s…ugh! It’s complicated Viktor!”
Still in disbelief, Viktor adjusted himself on the chair. He collected his thoughts before looking back up at you. “I will ask Professor Heimerdinger for help. Don’t worry, I’ll find the best doctor there is. You won’t lose a precious memories, I promise.”
“Thank you Vitya.” You smile. Viktor felt a small ache in his chest but ignored it. You said your goodbyes and Viktor started to draft his letter to the Professor. Your memories and friendship was on the line so he felt compelled to write as soon as possible.
Professor Heimerdinger reported back by the end of the day. He was deeply concerned with Viktor’s wellbeing. This disease was no joke! He had lost many a friend to the flower disease and Viktor was far too young to fall ill with it. Viktor stopped him in the middle of his speech as he explained the treatment was for you and not himself. He was very confused at first but agreed to contacting a very good doctor. Before Viktor leaves, the professor urges him to be careful and be kind to himself.
Viktor didn’t understand then. You met with the doctor and consulted with her many times. She was kind and truly understood what it meant to be afflicted. After the consultations, Viktor would be your shoulder to lean on. On the nights you were too sick, you would stay with him. Viktor’s apartment became your second home. Viktor was slowly starting to understand the Professor’s warning. He couldn’t think about that now, he needed to be here for you.
Around two weeks before your surgery you were walking to your scheduled visit when you saw him, Sterling. He was chatting with another girl when he said some choice words about you. He threw in a couple comments that you’d only get far in this world because you “suck up” to the HexTech guys. It didn’t just sting he thought of you this way, especially after this long but he dared to badmouth your two best friends as well. For once, your coughing stopped and you noticed a bud had landed in your hand. You took this to the doctor and she was intrigued. She examined it closely and came back with a smile on her face.
“Congratulations, you’re falling out of love.”
“What?!”
“Calm down, it’s only been reported in the last 60 years or so but there are cases of people falling out of love with their intended person. It was mostly reported in relationships that turned sour after years but yes, even crushes can die out.”
“Does this mean, I will lose all love in my heart?”
“Not necessarily, you’ll feel reluctant and wary but as for your friends and family, you will love them just the same. You may even fall in love again one day.”
You get somewhat relieved. The doctor continued, “About the buds in your lungs. You can have the stem cut but that runs the risk of the original surgery. Best I can do for you is give you some medicine for nausea, pain killers and recommend you take on less physical work. Also, if you don’t mind, I’d like to continue our consultations with a therapist present so I can monitor the after effects.”
“Right…”
You left the consultation feeling lighter. Honestly seeing the doctor so excited over a bud, the proof that love dies, was amusing. The very thought of Sterling did fill your heart with a pit but one of disgust. Such an awful person who doesn’t know himself had the audacity to speak about you and your friends. The nerve!
You walked into the office and huffed into the seat next to Viktor. Without looking up from his notes, “You seem energetic today.”
“I’m not having the surgery.”
He almost fell out of his chair. Why would not have the surgery!? Have you fallen in love with Sterling?! Did he accept you?!
“I heard that jerk talking about me to another girl and he had the nerve to bring you and Jace into it! I don’t know it’s like- it’s like all my affection just died right then and there!” You explained what the doctor had said and how you would continue your rantings. Viktor felt a swell of pride in his chest. The fact that you were so annoyed on his behalf meant no matter what, your feelings would remain.
“I’m glad you’re okay.” he smiled.
“Honestly good riddance.” You scoffed “He doesn’t compare to you guys! You work so hard Vik, even when you were taking care of me!”
“I’d do it all again.” Viktor said. You sighed, finally relieved of your anger. You thanked him again for all he’s done and excused yourself to let him get back to work. Viktor waiting until you were out of the room to completely heave over the waste bin. It was filled with red stained petals.
How could he bring himself to tell you? Not now, not while you were free of this burden. He can wait it out, now that he was sure love dies.

ok let’s talk about miguel o’hara because it needs to be done. i want to clarify that this is not a hate post or anti-miguel in any sense, but it is a critical analysis of his character and role in the spiderverse. if you don’t feel like you can read this right now, i suggest you like it/save it for later and read it when you feel like you can with an open mind
especially for anyone who’s a miguel enjoyer (i consider myself one as well) because if you really love his character, it’s important to understand why his character was created and what a great narrative tool it is! anyway-
miguel o’hara is, allegorically, a bigot.
now - let’s unpack and clarify that. miguel is allegorically a bigot - his character is used to represent a certain, specific type of bigotry we see in real life. notice how i’m saying “bigot” and not “racist” - because despite the memes, i don’t think miguel’s hatred of miles is rooted in antiblackness. i think it’s rooted in something a little more complicated, which is why i’m using the term bigotry. but this can be a little confusing, so let’s start from the beginning. or, at least, the most important part.
the canon.
i want you to really think about the word used here - canon. hearing that word should break the fourth wall for you, just like hearing “he’s got hammerspace!” should have earlier in the movie - or discussions different characters have surrounding their distinct art styles. it’s meant to break the fourth wall and draw attention to itself. specifically, the use of the word canon here is meant for us to take a step back from the in-universe events (treating the characters as “real” people and looking at events logically) and instead think of the spiderman story and mythos.
spiderman, as a story, has been told over and over again. we, as an audience, are deeply familiar with this story, as we’ve seen it as a live-action blockbuster in no less than three separate franchises. that’s not even mentioning all the cartoon adaptations, and of course the comic runs. adhering to a specific formula surrounding the story makes sense. when someone walks into a spiderman movie, they have certain... expectations. that no matter what version of spiderman this is, that they follow certain story beats and adhere to certain rules as they follow along in their journey. miguel, when explaining this to miles, focuses on said story beats (which i’ll get to in a second), but there’s something that’s way more important than specific plot points that we need to address here.
and that’s theme.
theme (if you’re not an english literature person), is basically something you take away from the story. it’s usually a moral, idea, or concept that can be applied to the world around you, and helps you learn more about yourself, society, culture, or history. all stories have themes - usually they have multiple. so let’s get into it.
the original spiderman comic was notable in several ways. the thing that made spiderman so popular and successful is that he was the first (notable) teenage superhero that wasn’t a part of a greater team. spiderman wasn’t a sidekick that was written in to appeal to an audience of children. he was a teenager himself - but he was no less competent or strong than the (mostly adult) villains he fought.
and not only was spiderman a kid - he was the kid. he was a nerd. he was an older white teen, yes - but he represented the type of person who would go out and buy a comic book more than any other hero at the time. before he became spiderman, peter parker was just kind of a geek. at the time (the 60s) this still identified him as an outcast. peter was socially awkward, not good with girls, he didn’t have many friends, and he was bullied consistently. the only thing he was good at was science, basically. we can connect peter’s original portrayal to many legitimately marginalized groups - specifically those that might be autistic and impacted by ableism. to those kids reading that comic, they saw a hero that represented them.
and how does peter represent them? what does spiderman teach these children by reading these comics? the original spiderman is the story of a man who, by chance, was granted the opportunity for greatness - to become an integral part of his community. spiderman uses his skills (both those granted to him by the spider, but also those that he inherently has, such as his skills with science and engineering), in order to prove his worth and merit. it’s lonely, the road he has to walk - he can’t tell his friends and family who he is, lest they become victims like uncle ben - or lest they betray him. he can only rely on himself and his own knowledge in order to protect his community. the themes we draw from spiderman are this: luck can strike at any time, but you need to use your own strength and intelligence to pull yourself up afterwards, no matter how hard things get. no matter how many people you lose.
that’s what miguel believes spiderman is about. this original spiderman story is that of the american dream. of a youth who is ostracized by society (for whatever reason), but is still able to use their own merit to overcome the obstacles placed in front of them and the grief and pain they face on their path to greatness. it’s a hard and lonely path, but miguel values anyone who has the bravery to face it.
so why does he hate miles?
because he didn’t do it alone. because miles doesn’t believe in the traditional american dream.
if you want to read more about that, check out my analysis comparing spider-society and visions academy over here (it’s not as in-depth as i would like it to be, but it gets the job done) but basically: miles believes that every person deserves greatness. he states it very clearly when talking to his dad about how he won the lottery to go to visions: he just got lucky. he feels as if he took an opportunity away from someone else. why is it just given to him, when anyone else at brooklyn middle is just as deserving of an amazing education? when these resources should be put to use to uplift his whole community, not just miles alone?
miles brings that same energy as a spider-person. he’s not just an anomaly because his spider was from a different dimension. he’s an anomaly because he had a mentor. not only a mentor - he had a whole clan of spider-people there for him. while peter b parker and the crew weren’t always very good allies for miles, they still wanted him to succeed. each spider-person was an outcast - not in the same way as miles, but they were eager to describe what miles needed to master in order to keep himself safe as a crime-fighter. although they weren’t always supportive, it wasn’t because they were “gatekeeping” - it’s because they were worried miles might hurt himself. to them, he hadn’t put in the work on his own, and because he hadn’t proven himself as a spider-person in isolation, they thought there was no way he could be successful as a spider-person during a very high-risk mission.
however, miles proves them wrong. it’s true that miles has to pull upon his own inner strength, but he also pulls on wisdom from those that mentored him - his father, his uncle aaron, peter parker, and peter b parker. as well as love and support from his community. miles became spiderman - but not in isolation. he had help, and support, and love - always - that helped him succeed.
because spiderman - in all universes - represents success in america. in the original comics, spiderman is able to overcome his status as an outcast in order to help his city. he now has great power - a potential allegory related to wealth and social or political status. he uses that power in order to protect the community he loves (nyc) as they can’t all protect themselves.
now let’s bring it back. miguel. right.
miguel has already made his mark as a spiderman. although we know he broke canon, it wasn’t related to him becoming spiderman. we can assume that miguel still went through serious struggle and trauma to get to where he’s at. and now, through thematic analysis, we know that becoming spiderman represents success in america.
so, miguel’s dislike of miles, thematically, connects to how older generations may believe that younger generations “have it too easy” or “don’t put in the same effort.” it’s the (mainly capitalistic) ideal that in order to succeed, it has to be in isolation, without outside help. we can infer that miguel is not only upset that miles didn’t do things “canonically” - but that he is afforded success that miguel doesn’t think he deserves. miguel believes that in order to succeed in america, one needs to do it on their own, and suffer in order to succeed. no “hand-outs,” no support, no community outreach. it’s a very rigid capitalistic standard - which is why i called it “bigoted.” miguel is still a marginalized figure - and it’s important that miguel is the one stating the viewpoint, not a white spiderman. because this isn’t a white vs black storyline. miguel’s dislike of miles is specifically a sort of generational, inter-community bigotry.
for someone who hasn’t experienced it - think of it like hazing. you join a new sports team. the senior players say “you carry the equipment out and clean everything after the game.” you ask “why? can’t we all just do it together? aren’t we supposed to be a team?” and they say “no. you’re the new guys. hard work builds character. deal with it.”
alright. so we took a look at canon through a meta-story lens. now let’s pull it back even further.
so, miguel’s ideology. he adheres firmly to canon, a series of events that cannot (or, should not), change. if we apply that to our lives, that sounds a lot like predestination. destiny. fate. let’s call it predestination for now - you’ll see why in a minute.
now, a belief in predestination makes sense. it can bring a lot of people comfort, thinking that horrible events are out of their hands, and often times it can be harmless to believe in predestination in these instances. for example: someone who blames themselves for not being able to say goodbye to a loved one who died suddenly. if this person believes in predestination, it might ease some of their pain and guilt to know that there was nothing they could do - that it was the will of some higher power that their loved one is gone, and that there was nothing they could do to prevent it. some individuals might find comfort in knowing that they are not to blame for the work of the universe.
however, predestination can also be malicious. thinking that things are the will of the universe, or the will of god... that’s been used for some pretty fucked up stuff in the past. in a more moderate (and topical) example - royalty. many kings used the concept of predestination to explain why they deserved the crown. their bloodline was chosen by god himself - that’s why they’re powerful (compare to spider-people and their success. if they are also predestined for their spider-bite, doesn’t that make them akin to monarchs?)
in more nefarious examples, predestination can be used to subjugate and oppress others. predestination was used in ancient indian society in order to justify the caste system - utilizing the hindu concept of karma to justify why certain members of society were mistreated and oppressed. in a more american sense, predestination was often used as a way to justify both slavery and segregation. originally, slavers tried to justify that god wanted black individuals to serve as slaves because it was his will. later, when divine intervention fell out of fashion, they attempted to use eugenics to justify that black individuals were simply born inferior - that it was just science, and that there was nothing they could do about it.
that’s the other reason it’s called canon. the original usage of the word was to refer to the books of the bible that the church recognized as legitimate. it ties back to faith and religion.
now, religion, faith, and even the belief in fate itself - are not inherently bad. miguel’s belief in predestination doesn’t make him a bad or bigoted person inherently. however, the way he forces other to believe and adhere to it is. it’s very likely that miguel became so attached to the canon in order to justify why his wife and daughter died - in order to remove his own accountability for their passing and instead place the blame on some higher power. this belief snowballed out of control, however - and now influences his jealousy and distaste for miles and his way of life.
because forcing a canon - a story - on miles, is wrong. when miguel tells miles that his father must die, that he has to adhere to canon - that’s a horrible thing to say to a young black boy. to tell him that in order to be successful as a marginalized individual (to be spiderman) that he has to lose the last black male role model he has? it’s heinous! it’s akin to telling miles that in order to succeed, he has to cut ties with part of his culture. which does happen to young marginalized people in america. they are told that in order to be successful, they have to leave their culture, community, and support system behind.
it’s especially sinister when looking at it from the point of view of storytelling. when looking at it from that angle, miguel is basically telling miles that in order for his story - the story of a young black boy - to be profitable, he has to go through even more trauma and loss. it’s similar to what his guidance counselor mentions when discussing how miles should write his college entrance essay - that he should lie, and emphasize that he struggles while growing up, and that his support system was unstable. it’s the traditional story of a struggling black boy - which i discuss more here when talking about earth 42 miles and his inclusion in the spiderverse.
miguel’s bigotry is centrally tried to his idea of what american society expects of marginalized individuals who were able to achieve their dreams despite it all. a story of pain and struggle. one where they were able to - only through their own strength and intelligence, and maybe with a little bit of luck - pull themselves up, and quietly work towards their own success.
miguel’s belief in the american dream and predestination not only influences his treatment of miles, but also his creation of spider-society. now, let me be frank: miguel, in this franchise, is not supposed to represent someone who created systematic oppression. he’s simply one of the people who believed in bigoted ideals and allowed those ideals to influence his decisions. because when miguel created spider-society, it basically became an elitist isolation chamber. spider-society is located in a huge tower on miguela’s earth. the tower is so tall and imposing on the utopian landscape, there’s no way that miguel is able to properly support his own community as spiderman - he’s not worried about what happens to his own community. especially once we learn that a good portion of them live underground, where miguel can’t even see them. even if he wasn’t occupied with anomalies at all times, there’s no way he could even connect with nueva york around him.
the same can be said of all the spider-people in headquarters. they’re not even in their home dimensions. how can they possibly support their communities when they have isolated themselves as far away as they could literally be? it parallels how successful individuals often treat their communities in reality - what do wealthy people usually do at the first sign of their wealth? they build a huge mansion to get away from it all. many times in our capitalist society, wealthy and successful people abandon the communities they should be supporting.
miguel represents that. he is a successful, powerful person, who decided to focus only on other successful, powerful people like him. marginalized people who achieved the american dream on their own. people who, instead of uplifting others, instead tear down those who don’t fit into their “mold.” who are successful in their own right, but don’t hold the same ideals and values that they do. who aren’t the model example of marginalized success in the eyes of the (white) american “audience.”
miguel is a product of a great problem within society. while he partakes and perpetuates bigotry, that doesn’t mean that he’s irredeemable. the narrative shows that miguel is a broken man. if we think about to the end credits scene from itsv, where he calls his dimensional travel bracelet a “goober” - he wasn’t always so hateful. he wasn’t always like this. he can un-learn his bigotry and he isn’t completely lost. the way that he discusses his ideas - it’s clear that he knows that there are flaws in them, just as other spider-people consistently point out. he can be changed and improved - just like our real leaders and role models can be changed and improved. miguel is not without saving - but it’s important to remember that he does need to be saved.

chapter four: sweet on the inside & outside
-- a ghostly love masterlist
The next day, we all sat in our usual circle in the gymnasium. Mr. Martin was talking to all of us as we passed the donut box around.
“There’s an old cider mill off Route 47, and my parents would toss us in the Dodge Coronet. We’d each get a bag of warm, greasy donuts. That was my idea of nirvana.” Mr. Martin says, thinking back to his memories as a kid.
I grabbed a glazed donut from the box before handing it to Wally who took it, making sure that he grazed his fingers over mine as he did so. He got a jelly donut out of the box and handed the box over to Rhonda.
“What’s that about?” She asks. He looked at her confused. “You always leave me the worst one.” Rhonda complains. I bring my hand up to my neck and rub the side of it. I don’t know why but she has gotten on my nerves ever since I met her.
“What do you mean? It’s lemon glazed.” Wally tells her.
“Nobody wants a lemon donut.” Rhonda remarks.
I mean she was right about that.
“Guys, the subject is nirvana.” Mr. Martin says.
“No, the subject is entitlement.” Rhonda retorts.
“Oh, okay. I’m entitled because I like anything filled with jelly.” Wally sighs. “It’s not my fault I like things with sweet stuff inside of it.” Wally then adds, looking over at me and giving me a wink.
“Oh my god.” I say, shocked at his constant boldness, especially in front of the others.
“Ew. Just ew.” Rhonda says. “I don’t even want that anymore. That’s gross.” She says.
“Guys, the subject is nirvana.” Mr. Martin repeats.
“Excuse me, can I be excused? I just want to eat my donut in peace.” Wally says.
“More entitlement.” Rhonda puts her hand up in disbelief.
“It’s not entitlement, Rhonda. Okay? It’s about- it’s about digestion.” Wally tells her.
I can’t hold back my laugh. Wally looks over to me and smiles after hearing my laugh.
“Oh, Lucia. I’ve just been reminded. I have a homework assignment for you.” Mr. Martin tells me.
I blink a few times, “Homework?” I ask.
“Well, kind of. I want you to write your obituary. Everyone here has done it already.” He says.
“I…” I trail off. I sigh. “Okay.” I shrug. I didn’t have the energy to complain right now.
There’s a sudden weird sound and I looked over to see Wally slurping the jelly out of the donut. “Oh, my god.” He says. enjoying the jelly.
“Um… I’ll just.. start that now actually.” I say.
“Yeah.” Mr. Martin says, agreeing with me.
<3
I then spent the next day writing my obituary. Even if the last few months, or well, years of my life hadn’t been that great, there were some core memories that I had. I guess writing it out was nice. I found Mr. Martin in the hallway after I’d finished so that I could give it to him. “Mr. Martin.” I say and he looks over. “I finished my obituary.” I told him.
“Wow, thank you.” He says as he takes the papers from me.
“You’re welcome.” I softly say.
“How did it feel? Writing all of that out.” Mr. Martin asked.
“It felt… nice.” I admit.
“Good.” He smiles.
There’s a few moments of awkward silence. “Well… see you.” I say and he just nods before I turn around and walk away.
<3
I sit on the bleachers in the pool room with Charley as Rhonda sits on the edge of the pool and Wally sits in a float in the water, wearing only some swim trunks and sunglasses. Charley was applying some of Rhonda’s sunscreen to his arms. Why? I don’t know, there was really no point. But, you do you, I guess.
“Uh, easy with the coppertone, hun.” Rhonda comments.
“Yeah, that bottle’s got to last her another 60 years.” Wally says.
I watch as she kicks her foot in the water, splashing some water at him, “Don’t be a cube.” She says.
I giggle at what she’d said. Yeah, she was definitely from the ‘60s. She looks over at me with a scowl on her face.
“I- I’m sorry.” I say, not really meaning it. “It’s just.. nothing. It’s nothing.” I say.
“You are such a bug.” She says.
I twirl a part of my hair with my finger, “Alright.” I dismissively say.
“I love this smell.” Charley says, rather loudly, trying to get us to stop. “Coconut, verbena. You can be anywhere; Miami, Aruba.” He tells us. “I miss a good sunburn.” He says.
“I miss pussy.” Wally says and everyone looks over at him. “What? I thought we were talking about stuff that we missed.” He tells us.
I cover my face with my hands. I can’t.
<3
“So, how have you been adjusting to the life of the undead?” Wally asks as we sit on the bleachers. It was nighttime and so it was quite pretty with all the stars and all.
“The life of the undead?” I ask, giggling at the way he phrased it. Wally smiled after hearing me laugh. “Um, yeah. It’s… actually not been that bad. I think it’s actually better than things were when I was alive.” I say.
“Really?” He asks and I nod. “Why? Cause I’m here now?” Wally asks, smirking at me.
“No.” I partially lied. I mean, honestly, I wouldn’t admit it to him just yet, but… I was glad that I met him, even if we were ghosts and even if he was constantly making inappropriate jokes.
“I’ll change your mind, don’t worry.” He says.
“Oh, really? And how exactly are you going to do that?” I ask.
He looks down at my lap before looking into my eyes again, “Well, I have a couple of ideas.” He teases.
I gently push his chest, “You’re a little too bold.” I say.
“Nothing wrong with that.” Wally shrugs.
“When it comes to you.. there is.” I tease back.
“I can’t help it when you look like that in your uniform.” Wally tells me.
“So, if I wasn’t wearing this then you wouldn’t be like this?” I ask.
“Nah, you’d be fine either way.” Wally says.
Was it so wrong that even if his boldness was a lot, that I liked it?

HEYY gal!! Love your stuff, could I req a fic where reader is the guitarist in H.I.M and is Bams celeb crush ( he’s still a celeb ofc ) buttt hope Yk what I mean!! 😭🫶
Yesss I’ve been listening to H.I.M and I’m really excited to write this hope it’s good
Tumblr media
Guitar strings and romantic strings
Summary: filming HIMs new mv
Pairing: bam margera x reader
Word count: 1.6k
Tumblr media
We are filming our new music video buried alive by love today and I had to get up at the ass crack of dawn to meet everyone at some mansion in la so my manager got me on a plane as soon as saying that the others were already there. I hate filming music videos because it’s always some grouchy 60 year old who has never even heard of us before but this time bam margera is actually directing the whole thing.
I’ve met him a few times with the rest of the band but he didn’t really take a liking to me he just wanted to talk to the boys. It kinda annoyed me cos I thought he seemed pretty cool and wanted to get to know him. I’m gonna make it my goal that by the time he’s going back to the states I’ve had at least 1 good conversation with him.
A cab picks me up from the airport and it doesn’t take too long to get to the set. Once I’ve paid the driver I’m quickly rushed in by random people telling me that I need to be quick and some girls come over with an outfit telling me to change. They’ve given me a black mini skirt wich is very mini and a black zip up top that shows of my tits.
I quickly walk over to where the band is greeting them quick. Then I walk over to bam ready to strike up a conversation.
“Hey bam I haven’t seen you in ages how are you?” He stares at me for a sec and I thought he was just going to ignore me but he nods his head
“Yeah Umm Im good” he quickly says before going over to frantz.I turn in my heal and go see what ville is up to. We are taking for a while before bam tells us to play the song the whole way through so I grab my guitar and wait for Jukka to count me in.
Once we finish playing Juliet Lewis arrives since she's going to be the girl playing billed love interest in the music video I was excited to see her I loved her stuff.
Once she had introduced herself to everyone and Joe was setting up the shots and lenses whatnot me and Juliet started talking and we hit it off we have a lot in common and honestly it was nice for the both of us to have another girl around.
but soon she had to film so I walked over to Joe and bam and started to watch what was happening I stood behind bam leaning on the back of the chair and would glance over at him every few seconds. I wanted to talk to him but I didn't know what about so I said the first think that came to my head.
“What colour would you be?” As soon as the words left my mouth I regretted it.
Uhhhm I don’t know what you mean he says before turning away from me
“Like yk if you were a coulour what one would you be for instance I’d love to be like a magentary purple but I hate to say I think I’d be like a greeny blue but not the nice turquoise more like a dull boring one” I started to rant by accident and bam just kinda stared.
It was awkward for a sec of me waiting for his answer and if I’m honest he looked bored but thank god Joe was there. “I’d be orange I think”
“Omg yess you so would like a nice tangerine kind” I say getting excited which we both laughed at and I can see bams lip curl up almost like a smile.
“Your’e turn bam” i say putting my attention on him again. I don’t know yellow?
Nooo no definitely not you would be like either a nice navy blue but like lighter by a smidge you are like a nice purple like when I say purple the one You think of but more punk.
“Oh yeah” Joe chimes in before focusing on the camera making sure to follow ville and just like that conversation done and he only said like 10 words maybe I think I’m just gonna give into the fact that not everyone has to like me.
“Cut”bam yells and ville and Juliet walk over listening to what will happen in the next bit before Juliet comes over to me. “What’s got you in a sour mood?”
“Bam doesn’t like me” I say sulking like a little girl with my head in my palms. “Are you crazy of course he does”
“No he doesn’t eveytime I even try to talk to him he just isn’t interested and just shut me down straight away and he can barely even look at me” and do you know what I hear from me telling her my struggles
Laughing
She’s laughing.
I giggle and push her “it’s not funny I’m serious”she’s hysterical now and trying to get a sentence out
“Y/n I love you but your’e really dumb” i look at her confused not knowing what she meant. “He likes you”
“No I just told you he can’t stand me”
“Y/n listen he has a crush on you it’s obvious he can’t look at you and I hear him stutter and fumble his words kudus he would probably implode if you even touch him” I think about what she’s saying but I can’t wrap my head around it
“Nah there’s no way”
“Ok yk what go over there and tell him his hair is messed up and quickly fix it for him and then you will believe me.”
Ok I will I get up and walk over to bam and ville sitting in their chairs pretending to listen to their conversation for a sec before looking towards bam and interrupting ville.” Sorry your hair is kinda crazy” I lean up and mess with it a bit not even realising his face is practically in my boobs. But I rake my acrylic nails through it and ruffle it softly before removing my hands and seeing his face the same colour as my guitar.
I then smile to myself and restrain myself from running to Juliet. Once I get to her I smile and admit she was right followed by an expected “I told you”
“What do I do? Do I ask him out? Wait I don’t even know if I like hi-“
“Oh please cmon y/n of course you do you wouldn’t want him to like you that much if you didn’t. I blush at her words realising she’s right.”
“Please help me” I put my hands together and beg her batting my eyelashes at her. “Alright we’re going to the bar later and you are gonna ask him out their simple”
The rest of the day I am just thinking about bam and how I was so oblivious about his feelings and mine. Want a drink? I snap my head up so fast I heard a crack in my neck I look to see bam standing infront of me waiting for an answer. “Oh um just some water please”
Once the days over we all walk to a bar down the road and straight away get a round in of beers. Im embarrassed to say I’m a huge leightweight so after 2 rounds I’m on the brink of drunk and when I’m drunk I am very touchy so I’ve heard.
Remembering what Juliet told me to do I stumble over to bam allay knocking a table of drinks over but once I reach him I use him to balance myself by wrapping my arms round his neck and staring up at him.
I couldn’t see his eyes as he was wearing his blacked out sunglasses so I reach up and lift them to rest on his hair. I mumble out “I like your eyes I couldn’t see them” and smile to myself
Whoever bam was talking to before had left after my sudden intrusion but I didn’t even realise. “Yknow I’m not meant to be telling you this but” I start giggling at what I’m about to say and whisper in his ear “ I have a crush on you”
He smirks and looks down and says a teasing “really” I nod up at him basically leaning my whole body weight in him and subconsciously scratching at his curls “and I know you like me back so are you going to do anything about it” I ask smugly
He rests both his hands at the undersides of my jaw rubbing small circles making me tigglish and giggling before he pulls my face towards his and I feel his soft lips against mine and I kiss him back and bring him closer and deepen the kiss forgetting we’re surrounded by all our friends and not even aware of Joe filming us but even if I had I wouldn’t of cared as long as I was still kissing bam.
He pulls away with his eyes dilated looking like he took the best drugs in his life before smiling and kissing me again this time letting his hand wander to my bum and giving it a firm squeeze and rubbing it almost causing my skirt to lift.
This time I pull away and take his hand and shout way too loudly a good bye and waving towards Juliet and holding up me and bamd held hands excitedly befire running up the bar stairs and feeling bam hold my skirt down making me not false anybody and asked the first person I saw
“where’s the closest hotel?”
Tumblr media
I hope this is ok sorry it took so long

TWIN PEAKS. roleplay sentence starters of episode 1x01. feel free to edit according to scenario / pronouns. tw: death, death of a minor, horror, eating, mild language.
gone fishing.
the lonesome foghorn blows.
put [ name ] on the horn.
she's dead. wrapped in plastic.
you stay right there. i'm on my way.
[ name ], not a word about this to anyone until you hear from me.
we'd better take some pictures.
is this gonna happen every damn time?
[ name ], now means now.
we're gonna be able to get it for a song. one verse, no chorus.
honey, what's wrong? what's this all about?
why didn't she leave me a note?
what? who? what did you say?
i couldn't get my car started.
i can drop you by your place on the way if you want.
i'll see you in my dreams.
i think she knows about us.
come on, cowboy, light your fire.
i'll call you later.
let's get out of here.
hey, man, something's up.
thank you for your time.
something troubling you, [ name ]? you wanna tell us about it?
you think i killed her?
[ name ], we're gonna talk about this later.
i can tell from the sounds that it isn't her.
do you know where the key to this is?
don't walk away from me like that.
what's your name?
she was the one.
buy you a coffee?
i've never seen so many trees in my life.
as w.c. fields would say, "i'd rather be here than philadelphia."
if you could get paid that kind of money for being wrong 60 percent of the time, it'd beat working.
damn good food.
that's what i need. a clean place, reasonably priced.
i've got to find out what kind of trees these are.
have any trouble finding the place?
whole town's really badly shaken up.
there's a few things we gotta get straight right off the bat.
well, like i said, we're glad to have you here.
well, the autopsy hasn't been done yet.
Is there any connection to the dead girl?
what exactly are you saying?
terrible, terrible tragedy.
you're on your way to the morgue now, do you mind if i join you?
there it is. oh, my god, here it is.
i've got to find something to grab onto this with.
we need to bag and tag this.
you gonna let me in on whatever the hell is going on here?
[ name ], we got a lot to talk about.
what the hell are you doing?
i've been looking all over for you.
look, don't tell me where i ought to be.
boy, i sure know how to pick 'em, huh?
i hate asparagus. does this mean i'll never grow up?
that's something to get started on.
you ever been surprised before?
you two had a big fight last week, didn't you?
if i had a fight with her, if i sang songs with her, if i went skipping rope with her, what difference does it make?
[ name ], here's how this works. we ask the questions, and you answer the questions that we ask. briefly and to the point.
she wouldn't do that to me.
you didn't love her, anyway.
did they scarf that whole damn smorgasbord?
i'll be at home this evening, if you need a sympathetic ear.
you know, dear, i have no idea what's going on here.
you've been through a lot today.
you don't keep records?
i'm sorry, i know i promised not to call you there, but i have to see you.
i think i saw a cottontail rabbit.
who's the babe?
is this thing on?
now, there is a chance that the person who committed these crimes is someone from this town, possibly even someone you know.
they're not releasing many details, wisely, i suppose.
i'm going out the window in a few minutes and i need you to cover for me.
the best-laid plans of mice and men.
what do you mean? she snuck out?
i don't know where she's gone.
don't do it for me, do it for yourself.
you know why i'm whittling?
because that's what you do in a town where a yellow light still means slow down, not speed up.
why don't you whistle for a little backup?
what are you sneaking around for?
i suppose you want me to follow them at a discreet distance.
do you think they spotted us?
give me a donut.
man, smell those trees.
[ name ], what happened last night?
it's not your fault, [ name ].
i don't have an alibi.
what goes around comes around.
can you recommend to me a good inexpensive hotel or motel?
tomorrow comes early.
it must have happened about this time 24 hours ago.

Songs that remind me of Stu and Billy
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
OKAY, SO I HAVE THESE BY ALBUMS (I'll hear a song I like and make myself go through the whole album to make sure there aren't other songs I like.)
IGOR (By Tyler, The Creator)
New Magic Wand
I feel like this is pretty self-explanatory
"My brother said I'm on the spectrum
Don't call me selfish, I ain't sharin'
This 60-40 (isn't) workin'
I want a hundred of your time, you're mine,"
(Both point of view of Stu and Billy. Billy kind of wanted Stu to focus on him and surprisingly not in a relationship way but in general ‘cause in the start it was just them.)
"I wanna be found, passenger in your car (Don't leave)
You wanna be mean, mixed signals don't park (I can make her leave)
She's gonna be dead, I just got a magic wand (Don't leave)
We can finally be together,"
(Mostly Stu. Wanting to leave a mark on the world but with Billy, if Billy dies, he wants to be by his side. If Billy lives, he wants to be by his side but he’s conflicted with his sudden changes when it comes to his actions. One moment a display of love and another of disgust. He’s somewhat into it but confused as well.)
"Take one look in the mirror, implications so clear
I live life with no fear, except for the idea
That one day you won't be here
I will not fetch the ball,"
(Mostly Billy, of course he’s tricked himself into thinking “I love Stu but only because he’s the only person I have left.” kind of way. He doesn’t realize how much Stu matters, just like how he didn’t know how much his mom mattered until he left.)
"I got a plan, 'bout to walk in the pen
If you can't understand, I'm a hawk in the gym
Eyes on the prize, got weight on my chest
That I need to get off, or I ain't talkin' to them,"
(Also Billy, he has his eye on the ball. Nothing is getting in the way of killing his friends and terrorizing his town, he believes in the euphoric feeling he got when he killed Maureen and knows it’ll multiply by thousands once he’s done with Woodsboro.)
Puppet
Honestly, the entire song is just Stuilly (Mostly stu point of view, he knows he’s gonna follow, he’s gonna obey with his little snarky comments and his small acts of deficiency but nothing to ruin Billy and his mindset.)
Are We Still Friends?
"Don't get green skin (green skin), keep contact (keep contact)
Don't say, "Goodbye, smell you later" (bye, later)
Nah, I can't
I don't want to end this season on a bad episode, , nah,"
I feel like this describes when the plan kinda goes to shit and Billy leaves Stu in the kitchen, then Stu tackles Sidney, and they both die. (Both of their POVs, the first two being Stu and Billy being the last two. )
THERE IS A LOT MORE SONGS THAT IS STUILLY CODED IN THAT ALBUM BUT I LIKE THOSE THE MOST
PARALYTIC STALKS (By xxofMontrealxx)
We Will Commit Wolf Murder
"Something's terrorizing my psyche to get even
Lately, you're the only human
I believe in,"
"Now I'm considered ugly
From every angle
You're the only beauty
I don't want to strangle,"
(Billy's point of view, I really like how this song reminds me of this good disgusting feeling you get with someone. Anyways, how this fits him is his mom just left him, his dad betrayed his family, Sidney’s mother is to blame, Sidney can’t know nor will she even believe Billy, Randy isn’t as close to Billy like Stu is therefore he’s the one, he’s the purest thing right now.)
"I want to get all fucked up
And tell you how I really feel
(Billy again, feeling scared to admit he’s scared, sad, upset, angry, and overall feeling things but it’s digging at his throat and he wants to break down and dismantle in front of his partner in crime. His best friend. But can he really? Maybe with a push.)
Because your vibrant blackness
Coco artery is so unreal,"
(Stu this time because Billy is like a black hole that Stu loves. To Stu, Billy is that night time cold that is perfect to hide under the covers, the sun that beats on his back while he does yard work, and the thing that makes him feel seen.)
"When I die I want you to die too
Not try to stay in this all
In a dimension without you
Spit on this planet without you,"
(BOTH OF THEM OFC, THEY JUST WANNA BE THERE FOR EACH OTHER.)
AND THERE IS SO MANY MORE LINES BUT THESE ARE MY FAVORITES AND I EVEN SKETCHED OUT SOME OF THESE LYRICS
Sports (By Modern Baseball)
Re-Do
"I wanna complete re-do, maybe change my name
Report the losses grab the claim, it's a shame it's such a shame
We're pissing away our time 'cause we're pissing away these beers
No monumental moment ever came from saying
"Come on dude, just take one more shot","
"Maybe I could just move away or go extinct like a triceratops
But I love loving, watching movies, sitting back and also breathing
My family and friends would be crushed, but is it enough?
(Oh no, it's not enough)
Oh, the future freaks me out, but I guess I could just
Curl up in a ball and think,"
Now, this song is mostly an AU I've created in my head where Stu wakes up after dying and tries to change Billy's mind about killing the friend group. Not 'cause he dislikes killing but because he wants to live with Billy.
She Wants Revenge (By She Wants Revenge)
Red Flags and Long Nights
"You can occupy my every sigh
You can rent the space inside my mind
At least until the price becomes too high,"
(I feel like this could be about Tatum 'cause the "price" being her demise? If that makes sense, Stu's POV.)
"I can find a reason that we should quit
I can find a reason to do it
I can find excuses for all my shit
She tells me just to work right through it
(Mostly Stu thinking about Billy, stringing him along to the plan, catching his feelings for him.)
She's pretty, and I like her but she's too well
'Cause I need red flags and long nights, and she can tell
It's not that it's my fault, it's just my style
Beginning with a look and then a smile,"
(Stu when he's with Tatum 'cause as I said in an earlier post, Tatum is like the sane Billy.)
Tear You Apart
"Its cute in a way, till you cannot speak
And you leave to have a cigarette, your knees get weak
An escape is just a nod and a casual wave
Obsessed about it, heavy for the next two days,"
(Stu being in love lol??? Idk but it's just giving me them vibes)
"It's only just a crush, it'll go away
It's just like all the others it'll go away
Or maybe this is danger and he just don't know
You pray it all away but it continues to grow,"
(BILLY IGNORING HIS HOMO THOUGHTS!!!!)
"I want to hold you close
Skin pressed against me tight
Lie still, and close your eyes girl
So lovely, it feels so right,"
"I want to hold you close
Soft breasts, beating heart
As I whisper in your ear
I want to fucking tear you apart,"
(IT'S THEM GUYS!! THEY WANNA BE IN EACH OTHER'S SKINS!!!)
Basically the rest of the song is like this!! AGSJ

Dresden files Proven Guilty live blog
Proven Guilty live blog
We start with an execution of a 16 year old warlock
Is the hood really necessary?
There has got to be something better than just execution or the doom
Can Harry punch Merlin as well? Harry saved the day with killing Corpsetaker and stopping Cowl and it gets thrown back in his face
Merlin seriously bought a warlock all the way from presumably South Korea to Chicago to have Harry watch that’s incredibly petty
I’m glad both Harry and Ebenezar know about the traitor and are doing something about it
I like Ebenezar’s Scottish accent creeping in his speech
Oh uh black magic is afoot
No Harry, Ebenezar is trying to make amends go to lunch together
Lasciel appears yay!
Ha Harry made Lasciel wear a seatbelt
Aw Harry’s avoiding Michael :(
Oh no someone hit Harry with a car
Oh Harry is good at lying not sure if that’s good or bad
“All lean muscle, sculpted and well formed” pg. 58 Bi Harry 23
Thomas!
“Because guys don’t do it like that” pg. 60 Harry that’s stupid talk to Thomas
Fix!
Billy got married?!? When was this?
“None of the evil geniuses I ever worked for could have handled something like this” pg. 72 Harry is smart as Little Chicago sounds complicated
Little Chicago is really cool
Molly’s in jail why is Molly in jail? What did she do?
Hey Harry (and Jim) could maybe please tone down the description of Molly please
Why does Molly’s boyfriend kinda sound like Harry appearance wise? Or am I reading too much into it?
Molly’s what 17? Why isn’t she living with her parents? Why isn’t she in school? Did she run away?
Molly got full named
Charity stop with the animosity with Harry
Charity maybe don’t say your daughter looks like a savage
“Possession. Marijuana and Ecstasy” pg. 122 Ha Molly had Molly (Ecstasy) Those drugs aren’t that bad. I’m with Michael parenting wise
“Professional Wizard Incinerates Amateur Vampire. News at 10” pg. 131 Harry this is probably a trauma response please go get therapy or talk to your friends
“Actually I do,” I said. “I make fun of almost everything” pg. 133 Ha
“I would be coming down on the same side of the situation as Charity, which might be one of the signs of the apocalypse.” pg. 134 Ha
Rawlins!
“Believe me. I know burning buildings.” pg. 144 Ha and yes Harry knows burning buildings incredibly well
So the bad guy came in and out through NeverNever is what I’m guessing maybe they were fae?
Murphy! I’ve missed you
Killing somebody must really eat you up inside
“What if I grow into some kind of monster? One who takes life without consideration for anything but his own will. Who cares more about end than means. More about might than right. What if this is the first step?” pg. 175 No Harry you’re not monster
“Painfully obvious, sometimes” pg. 176 Yep
“If we ever did get together, I’d kill you inside a week” pg. 177 it’s both funny and painful knowing that they’ll get together and then Murphy will died
No Harry take your duster knowing your luck you’ll need it
Do bring Mouse because he’s wonderful
“Mouse isn’t big. He’s compactly challenged” pg. 186 Ha
I’d be nice if Harry could actually use new technology and not short circuit it
“Karrie Murphy” pg. 190 Karrie?!? It’s like when Ebenezar calls Harry Hoss
Is Molly magic? Is she doing gray or black magic? Is she a warlock? Cause Mouse’s reactions to her are sus. Like he can detect evil and he’s acting like Molly is bad. Maybe she hasn’t done anything too bad so Mouse isn’t on all out attack yet. Harry should really listen to Mouse. Maybe she’s all the black magic that’s happening? As I’m not sure if the council would know about nonhuman beings performing black magic. That brings into question some stuff with Harry, Justin, and papa Raith. Why would Molly do Black magic? It's bad? Maybe she doesn’t know?
“Worse, there were what looked like almost like burn marks on her temples
-small, black, neat holes, as if someone had board a hot needle through the skin and skull beneath.” pg. 195 Ok so probably Molly has mind magic cause that’s too precise to be from an attack and she’s been hopefully trying to help her friends not be addicted to drugs cause you don’t become sober in two weeks from heroin that girl should definitely be having withdrawals. But mind magic is a big no no in terms of the laws. And you know it's ethically bad. I feel like even not knowing the Laws Molly should know better than to do mind magic as the media hasn’t presented mind control as good. Does she know the laws? Surely not or she wouldn’t meddle with mind magic. Can she do other magic? Can talent just pop up? Harry’s mom was magic so it seems like it can pass down? So maybe Michael or Charity could do magic at some point but not now as Harry’s touched them before and he didn’t mention anything magic. Maybe it has something to do with Michael being magic adjacent to being a knight. Or maybe Charity used to do magic. Harry hasn’t had a handshake with Molly yet. Last time Harry saw Molly she was 14 back in Death Mask and she didn’t have magic then. When does magic come up? Puberty? When did Harry’s magic come up? This is all under the assumption that she has magic. So many questions and theories and wild guessing
“Sir” pg. 203 Harry called Pell sir? I thought he only called Ebenezar sir? Maybe it’s just old men that Harry respects that get called sir?
“Thing is. That was the only damn movie ever scared me” pg. 204 Interesting
“It’s a spiritual entity that feeds on fear. It attacks in order to scare away people, and feeds on that emotion” pg. 205 Spooky
“You take too much responsibility on yourself, Harry. You’re just one man, but you're still only human” pg. 207 aw :( Harry needs to not take so much responsibility.
“This is what happens when I don’t wear the coat” I opined “People start thinking I’m not a superhero” pg. 207 Ha
“You can’t be everywhere at once. You can’t stop all the bad things that are going to happen”
“Doesn’t mean people shouldn’t try” I said
“Maybe. But you take it personal. You tear yourself up over it. Like with that girl just now”  pg. 207 Harry really does follow Peter Parker
“I just can’t stand it. I can’t stand seeing people get hurt like that. I hate it” pg. 208
Yep
Aw Thomas is leaving:(
Why does Maeve know Harry hasn’t been with anyone?
“Technically? When I killed Aurora” pg. 235 Well Harry’s correct
“When I’d defeated Aurora, there had been a healthy chunk of luck involved.” pg. 236 Well there saw some skill involved
What did Maeve do at Billy and Georgia’s wedding?
“These mortal notions,” said Maeve “Good, Evil, love. All those other things your kind natter on about. Are they perhaps contagious” pg. 240 Interesting idea humanity is infecting
 Rich is here boo
Butters mentioned!
“Crane was a surprisingly good-looking man” pg. 252 Bi Harry 24
“He turned that dazzling smile on Murph” pg. 256 Bi Harry 25
“He recognized too, I felt famous” pg. 258 Oh he’s a supernatural
“Go read the yellow pages in your room. I’m in  there. Under Wizard” pg. 258 Ha
“Greene was an ass” pg. 271 Couldn’t agree more
So they’re illegally interrogating Molly a minor without her parents there shame on them
I want Rich and Greene fired
What would Sam Vimes say?
What’ll happen when Murphy finds out?
Why doesn’t Harry have a conceal carry license?
“Would it kill you to stop being an asshole for five minutes, Rich?” pg. I think it might actually kill him
Huh I thought Murph would be madder
“But any child of mine would inherit more than my eyes and killer chin”
“Any child of mine would be bound to inherit some of my enemies, and worse maybe some of my allies” pg. 283 aw :( poor Harry
“I didn’t follow her right away
She didn’t look back
Stab
Twist
God, I love being a wizard” pg. 284 ouch
“One of these days, you’re gonna have to tell me what you did to make Mab want to kill you” pg. 289 What did Bob do?
“Even knights can die, Molly. Shiro did. It could happen to Michael too.” pg. 294 ouch more pain
Bob please stop talking about Molly like that I’m begging you
“Bob is my little creep, and the only one who gets to call him names is me.” pg. 298 Ha
“That boyfriend Nelson bears quite the striking physical resemblance to you” pg. 298 What. I was joking before. It was supposed to be a weird tin foil theory. I wasn’t supposed to right.
Bob and Lasciel better be wrong about Harry and Molly I swear
I like it when Harry performs magic. Interesting descriptions
“But imagining invisible perpetrators or hidden conspiracies veers pretty close to paranoia” pg. 302 Murphy, Harry’s a bit paranoid
“It’s only paranoia if I’m wrong” pg. 303 Ha
I like it when Harry gets technical when he talks about magic; he's such a magic nerd!
“The universe conspired against me” pg. 307 Ha and yes Jim is definitely out to get Harry
“Charity introduced my chin to her right hook” pg. 307 Ouch
“I’ve had an incident or two with involving buildings and fire” pg. 323 Ha
“She’s dead” pg. 329 oh no
I’m not sure if Harry let the phage go he would have been able to save the girl
MOUSE! I know he’ll live but poor got hit a car that’s got to hurt
“Your head must be as hard as everyone says” pg. 341 Ha and yes Harry indeed have a hard head
“As tall and dark and handsome as you please” pg. 341 Bi Harry 26
“You’re siphoning my noble hero vibe” I told him “Cease and desists or I’ll sue” pg. 345 Ha
“So who’s going to pony up for one Harry Dresden, slightly used?” pg. 346 Ha
“I suddenly felt cold, all over.
I was captured by the Red Court once. Held in the dark by a crowd of hissing, monstrous shapes.
They did things.
There was nothing, I could do about it.
I still had nightmares to remind me
Not every night, maybe, but often enough.
Often enough.” pg. 346 Poor Harry :( This doesn’t help the implications. Harry describes some truly terrible and awful things and the fact that he doesn’t with what happened to him is telling. It makes sense to me as it can take people time to come to terms with the fact that they were victims. Harry not being able to speak about it other than saying they did things to him adds to it.
“That the White Council’s unyielding policy is one of nonnegotiation with terrorist” pg. 347 Boo white council
“No unacceptable. A numbered account only. I don’t trust those people on PayPal” pg. 347 Who is trying to buy Harry on eBay? Is it Marcone? I bet it’s Marcone because that’ll be funny. This is my head cannon
“Are you selling me eBay?” pg. 347 Ha
“There are too many blondes in your life, my host” pg. 348 Ha
The Full Moon Garage is there no other creepy warehouse in Chicago? Do the villains have a time share on this place? Out of the warehouse you choose this one?
Thomas to the rescue!
“I’ll not surrender this prize” pg. 368 Harry isn’t a prize to be bought >:(
“My dog was alright. Maybe my eyes misted up a little.” pg. 373 Aw Mouse is ok
“And the expensive puddle of water instantly froze into a sheet of glittering ice” pg. 390 so cool that Harry used a fire spell to freeze something
“Hell you think I’m going to walk into one of your patented Harry Dresden anarchy-gasm without all the protection I can get” pg. 392 Ha
Thomas took part in the Wild Hunt
What why would Molly be behind the phage?
Oh no the other kids :(
Charity is scary
“I never look good” pg. 409 True
“He rapped his knuckles gently with my own” pg. 410 Yeah fist bump
“It is beautiful here” pg. 412 Lasciel having doubts
“Sometime in the Mesozoic Era” pg. 410 Ha
Nelson has the same wounds as Rosie
“How long has it been since you’ve used your magic?” pg. 424 I was right?!? My theory was correct?
“Wardens got wind of it” pg. 427 More questions about the White Council
So Michael saved Charity from a dragon cool
Michael doesn’t know!?! Why didn’t Charity tell him? This is a big secret to keep from your husband
“I was setting an example to Molly of everything Charity wanted her to avoid” pg. 429 that’s not Harry’s fault
I feel like this whole conflict could have been avoided if people were open and honest with each other. Communication
“I think she used magic to invade their minds” pg. 430 I’D LIKE TO STOP BEING CORRECT NOW.
I’d like to be wrong about Molly and magic please
“There’s a child out there who needs me. I’d rather die than let her down. I’m doing the spell, period. So fuck off.” pg. 448 So cool
“Murmuring a stream of faux Latin” pg. 449 So Harry uses Latin for his spells. But the White Council speaks Latin. Does Elaine also speak spells in Latin? Why would Justin let them speak in Latin when the White Council also speaks Latin?
Yay Little Chicago worked
“Then I turned on Murphy and gave her a jubilant kiss on the mouth.” pg. 460 Yay!
“Hey Murph” I said “Look at that zeppelin” pg. 477 Ha
“So, like a crazed loner with more death wish than survival instincts” pg. 480 Ha
“I don’t care about whose DNA has recombined with whose. When everything goes to hell, the people who stand by you without flinching-they are your family.
And they were my heroes” pg. 492 So cool
“I’d done worst in the past with both Justin DoMure and Ebenezar” pg. 497 I’m questioning both of your teaching methods
“I’m starting to think that maybe I’m getting a little bit out of my depth here” pg. 500 Ha
“I mean, God, you are dense sometimes. Are you just now noticing this, Harry?” pg. 500 Ha
Oh someone attacked Mab’s fortress with Hellfire
So many bones
“How about a little fire Scarecrow” pg. 531 Cool
Is Mab just torturing Slad till Harry becomes the Winter Knight? Slad seemed happy that Harry had come to supposedly kill him. Maybe that’s how Winter knight get chosen kill the previous one. If Harry does kill Slad I’d view it more as a mercy kill at this point. Put the man out of his misery
Oh no Lea
She doesn’t seem herself. Is she possessed? Is that why she tried to usurp Mab?
“Why all of Winter, child. All of us” pg. 543 Oh no
“Then give me the sword and I’ll do it myself. I’m not leaving her.” pg. 544 aw :) Harry care about Lea
Well Lea is definitely possessed
“I can’t sleep well any night I haven’t inflicted a little property damage” pg. 555 Ha
“She’d avoided direct contact before” pg. 568  Like with the first wife from Blood Rites
“But I won that little blue ribbon. I still have it back at home” pg. 570 aw :)
I feel like how their magic showed what their proficiency is. With Molly it’s mind/illusions with Harry it’s more external changes wind/fire physical
“I had this problem where I gave a lot of lip to older kids. And teachers. And pretty much everyone else who tried to intimidate me, whether or not it was for my own good” pg. 570 Ha
Why didn’t Molly talk to Harry when her magic turned up? He’s a friend of the family and an actual wizard who helps people
“But I thought maybe I could help her. With magic. Like you” pg. 573 Hooboy is right
Molly please take responsibility for your actions
“Her talent was not a modest one” pg. 575 Maybe I’m just not getting this but does this mean Molly has a lot of power or not a lot?
I take it Harry is going to take Molly under his wing and him and Molly will be under the Doom. That would mean Harry has been under the Doom twice. Has that ever happened to any other wizard?
Soul Gaze time
Molly’s soul was interesting
Charity isn’t going to like this chat
“We just haven’t had one of them one in ten or twelve years” pg. 598 I assume the last trial was Harrys
“You sound familiar with this situation.
I smiled a little. “Intimately.” pg. 601 Yep must have been scary for Harry
“Morgan got within about twenty feet of the Red King himself” pg. 607 cool
“So the Merlin holds them by default. And he doesn’t like me. He’d cast the vote to condemn her just to spite me” pg. 609 WHAT KIND OF KANGAROO COURT NONSENSE IS THIS?!? This can’t be legal, no wonder the council doesn’t have many people who keep killing potential wizards. When most of your jury is unavailable then you reschedule. Who decides if a person has gone too far? Does the accused have a lawyer? Will the trial be in a language that everyone knows? Why does Merlin get to cast votes for the others? The judge shouldn’t preside over the trial if there’s a conflict of interest. Molly is 17 and didn’t know the laws. This is a terrible system. This can’t possibly carry out justice. Why is there only two options: execution of prohibition with a death sentence hanging over their heads? Surely there can be other options. You’re telling me that in these hundreds of years wizards haven’t built a prison besides Deamonreach to hold  warlocks? Or use the anti magic handcuffs.
“The Reds had to find a way to draw off some of our heavies and they found it. Luccio’s boot camp” pg. 607 The wardens have a boot camp?
“Some terrified corner of my brain had noted that so long as the hood was over my face, I wasn’t a person. I was only a creature, a statistic and one that was a potential threat at that. It would be far easier to pass and mete out a death sentence when one did not have to look at the face of the damned” pg. 612 Yep that’s why the hood is a bad idea. This doesn’t happen in an actual court of law
“If I fought the White Council’s justice” pg. 614 This isn’t justice
Gatekeeper! Here to the rescue
“He beckoned the Council secretary, a dried-up old spider of man named Peabody, and put his head together with the old man in a whispered conference” pg. 622 Why are Peabody and Merlin talking? Why do they need to talk? What does the scribe for the White Council need to talk to Merlin about? Peabody wasn’t part of the investigation. He didn’t look at the victims or soul gaze at Molly. Why is he talking to Merlin? To sway him to kill Molly?
“He’d planned on undermining me with Latin from the moment he heard about the concave” pg. 616 I repeat this isn’t justice this is petty spiteful vengeance nothing more
“If it hasn’t faded into a blur of senility” pg. 624 Ha
“But when it comes to the Council sitting self-righteous, arrogant judgment over a young wizard who made an honest mistake, I believe I have more experience than anyone in this room” pg. 626 Ha and yes Harry is the black sheep of the White Council
“In the past three years the Council has tried and condemned more warlocks than in the past twenty. Children who are raised in societies that do not believe in magic suddenly inherit powers they could hardly imagined, and certainly cannot control. They have no support. No training. No one to warn them of the consequences or the dangers of their actions” pg. 626 Preach
“For Gods sake, wizards, if we are to survive this war, we need all the talent we can get” pg. 627 Yep
“I’d beaten the Merlin. He knew it.
And he hated it.” pg. 628 Suck it Merlin
“My words slowed him, he froze in place for a terrible heartbeat” pg. 631 Interesting it seems that Harry got through to Morgan
“Stand aside, Dresden. Please” pg. 631 Oh Morgan being polite to Harry
Yay the rest of the Council has arrived
“Michael came in” pg. 634 Yay! Michael to the rescue
“If you’re right” I said, “you still get to kill the girl”
“Merlin glanced at me. “True,” he said. “And you with her.” pg. 636 Why doesn’t Merlin like Harry or Molly? Surly he’s been in charge long enough that this isn’t the first time someone has beaten him. And surely Harry isn’t the first black sheep of the Council. Surly Harry isn’t he first to question or define his authority so why does Merlin not like Harry and Molly? Is he worried someone will try to challenge his rule and or try to and take his position as leader
“In short: I’d become a politician” pg. 638 Ha
“I thought to myself, hey, it would be great time for one of the Knights of the Cross to show up, eh?” I shook my head “It didn’t work out that way” pg. 642 But Butters came does it matter if he’s not a knight yet he came
Charity should tell Michael that she had magic
“She’s got real talent” pg. 643 So Molly dose have a great deal of power or talent
“Greater love hath no man,” he said quietly. “Nothing I can say would enough. She’s my daughter, Harry. Thank you” pg. 643 aw :)
“Not the Merlin of the Council. Merlin. The original” pg. 645 So cool the similarities between the Merlin original and Harry
“Like they did with Shiro” pg. 646 aw :(
“I certainly have no intention of an early retirement” pg. 646 Well you’ll get it whether you like it or not
Yes Harry talk to Michael
Michael knew about Lasciel?!? You couldn’t have told Harry this sooner?
“Walk away from your magic,” he said. “Forsake it. Forever”
“Fuck that” pg. 651 Yeah I would have a similar reaction. I don’t know what Michael was expecting. Harry’s life is magic he’s been training and using it for decades. It’s a part of him at this point. He loves magic. He’s a magic nerd.
“If that happens,” I told him, and my voice was a dry whisper, “I want you to” pg. 653 Real friends will kill each other if they go to the dark guy
“And hungry. No one has touched you in a very long time” pg. 660 Why do people keep commenting on Harry not having a sex it’s none of their business
NOPE delete do not go there back up you two this will not happen
“But that stopped once I picked up the pitcher of ice water from the mantle and dumped it over her head” pg. 662 Ha
“This isn’t going to happen” pg. 662  Good it shouldn’t ever happen
Oh so Molly had a crush on Dresden
“It’s trite but true that a lot of young women look for men who reminds them of their dad. Your dad fights monsters. I fight monsters. Your dad rescued your mom from a dragon. I rescued you from Arcrtus Tor. Seeing a the pattern here” pg. 664 Well that is a pattern
“That you’re both stiffened necked idiots” pg. 673 Ha Thomas is such a Harry/Murphy shipper
“I’m proud of you, boy.”
“Something inside of me melted” pg. 679 Aw my heart :) I think Harry needed to hear that
I love that Ebenezar vouched for Harry at his trial. I love that Harry and Ebenezar are rebuilding their relationship. I adore their relationship. It was a good ending :)
Final thoughts
I liked the fights. Now onto some of my issues with the White Council. Did they not know that a member of theirs Justin turned into a warlock when he enthralled Elaine and did they not notice that Justin sent a monster from outside reality. Did the White Council not know about Harry and Elaine as they don’t seem to know Elaine exists and Harry never mentions wearing an apprentice robe or going to their headquarters or boot camp. No one seemed to have stopped by to check in on Justin at any point during Harry’s apprenticeship. Are there no regulations or oversight when it comes to apprenticeship? This all just reminds me of bad homeschooling where the parents take the kids out of school to isolate them and abuse them. Continuing with the isolation, Harry's magic uses Latin. The White Council uses Latin surely if Justin actually cared he’d have advised against it. Justin could have encouraged Harry to have his spells in Latin as a way to make sure he wouldn’t be able to talk to the White Council if he escaped him. That could be why his Latin is so bad. Are we sure Justin didn’t just kidnap Harry? I’m going to need some paperwork as a young orphan in foster care is an easy target. Onto other parts of the book because we’ll be here all day if a rant about my issues with the White Council. We had 4 Bi Harry moments up to 26 on the counter. I didn’t like being right about Molly and magic. I still don’t really get why Molly didn’t go to Harry when she got magic but I’ve never had a teenage crush before so I can’t relate. The things between Harry and Molly better stay platonic. I’m mad Bob and Lasciel were right. I can’t wait to see the apprenticeship. Hopefully I’ll learn more about Harry’s own apprenticeship through how he teaches Molly. I didn’t like more implications about Harry and Bianca’s party. I thought the trial was a joke, it was truly terrible.  I’d like to add that the White Council’s methods might have worked in the before times when people believed in magic and there weren’t so many people. But now people don’t believe in magic. There’s 7.8 billion people alive and with the Masquerade and the secretly of the White Council this is going to keep happening. The Council needs to get with the times and change and progress. Or start over. Or something else comes along that’s better. They have to get the word out to kids with magic. Harry has the right idea being in the phone book. The White Council wrote books on magic so they’re not opposed to writing books. Have them write a “fiction” book about the signs and laws of so if any of the magic kids read it they’ll have a better idea. They shouldn’t be worried about the Masquerade or the muggles they don’t believe in magic. Or have apprentices or a low level practitioner set up a website. Because right now they’re losing kids to the dark side out of ignorance of magic and the Laws and as far as I can see they’re not helping. Onto the next book!

Sissy
Tumblr media
Eddie Munson x fem!reader
This is all spoiler free! And not proofread either, and although I have lots of experience writing it has been a long time and I never posted it on this blog but I figured it would reach more people through my main. You have want more let me know lol
Dustin has to stay after school, but had plans with Eddie, he forgot to tell him that he wouldn’t be home, resulting in you spending time with Eddie yourself. Perspectives changed, and embarrassing secrets were revealed.
TW: none, 1.3k words
Loud music drifted through the whole house and Eddie could hear it from the front door, so he figured to knock loudly. Meanwhile you were on the phone with Dustin as he was frantically explaining something to you.
“You don’t understand! He’s gonna be there any minute just tell him to go back home or something because I won’t be back for a while.” Dustin’s voice carried through your end of the phone.
“Why is he coming over in the first place? And why when you know you aren’t even going to be here?” You questioned.
“Well I only found out that I had to stay after school after Eddie and I made the plans but I never got a chance to tell him. Can you just tell him please sissy? And tell him I’m sorry.” And with that he hung up. No more explanation, or when he was coming back, or even who was gonna give him a ride.
Eddie figured to knock pretty loudly considering the music, to which you heard clearly even over the music, in the middle of brushing your hair. You sigh and set the brush down walking over to answer the door, realizing you don’t have pants on as soon as you swung it open. Tugging your shirt down a bit, you give Eddie a little smile and nod, you didn’t exactly know each other all that well. But you did know that even though he was obnoxious in school, Dustin picks really good friends so you trust him. Plus you thought Eddie was cute.
      “Hi.”
“Hey,” Eddie gives a small smile back to you, cheeks becoming a little warm realizing who you were and what you were wearing, “I’m here for Dustin.”
“Yeeeah, here’s the thing, he just called and said that he has to stay after school for a little bit but did catch you to tell you before the end of the day. You can come on in though and hang out for a bit until he gets here.” You offer with a kind smile.
“Oh, no, I don’t want to intrude.” He said while gesturing to you. At that, your cheeks warmed up too. Holding your finger up and running back to your room to throw some pants on, and running back out quickly.
“Please, I don’t want you to have to drive all the way back, I don’t think he will be too long.”
“Are you sure?” He asked shyly, maybe the only time you had ever seen him shy, it was cute.
“Oh yeah! I’m just getting ready for a party so we can hang for a bit. If you don’t mind, that is, I’ll be doing my hair and makeup.” He just shrugs and responds with a little “okay” and you waved him to come in all the way and stay. You head back to your room, turning the music down a bit and picking up the brush again fixing your hair up. The music was all 60s and rock music, which did make Eddie cringe a little bit but it wasn’t too bad to him.
After a few moments of awkward silence, your hair was done and you look over to see Eddie staring at your reflection in the mirror.
      “What?” you ask.
“Nothing, I guess I just have never seen you around school, not dolled up, you know?”
“Yeah, I just like getting dressed up is all, but I don’t always. You know?” You mimicked his question to you. “But I might need your help with something.” Eddie just stared at you a moment as you went digging around your room. He sat on the edge of your bed, taking in the surroundings of your room, spotting your tape collection. Something particular caught his eye though, something familiar. He shot up and made his way over, grabbing the tape that interested him so much. Motley Crue. He saw another one, Metallica. He just could not believe it.
“Oh of course you’d find those that quickly.” You chuckle with an eyeshadow palette in your hand. Taking the Motley Crue tape and replacing it with your personal mixtape playing now. “I know, I know, say it.” His eyes scan the room again, seeing all your decor and jewelry that he has never seen you wear. It’s almost as if he memorized the things you do wear, actually it’s almost as if he stares at you every chance he gets in school. Because it’s true, he does. Truth be told Eddie was actually a little glad that Dustin wasn’t home yet. He had been trying for weeks now to try and grab your attention so you could talk to him.
“You… You’re a freak.” He said almost breathlessly, letting out a light chuckle paired with it. You stand with your arms out, accepting it, along with a smug, tight lipped smile. It got better too, he saw band shirts hanging in your closet and D&D paraphernalia scattered all over the place. Although he did take into account that the D&D stuff could be Dustin’s, but still.
“Now that you are done ogling my room like a creep, I need your help.” Eddie’s face got warm and red real quick, he mumbled a little “sorry” as his heart skipped a little beat. “I cannot choose what color to do for my eyeshadow, I am wearing a white top so it could be literally any color. Could you pick one for me please?” You asked sweetly, batting your eyelashes shamelessly at him, handing the makeup over. His eyes glazed over the whole thing, landing on a particular blue shade, it’s light but with a tiny bit of sparkle.
“What about this blue one? I kinda like it.” He said, trying not to act too interested in it.
“Perfect, thank you. Here you can sit on my bed while I do my makeup.” And he did, back on the edge of your bed. You’re looking in the mirror, blending out your powder, then putting the mirror down to look at him again.
      “Are you okay?”
      “Yeah, I just… I don’t know.”
“What? Come on, secrets are safe here.” You let out a little laugh. He just shrugged again shyly. Somehow you managed to render him quiet most of the time he was there, even though he is always quite loud.
“I’ll tell you a secret if you tell me what you’re thinking about. Deal?”
Eddie chuckled again, shaking his head, thinking about how he was going to phrase what he was going to say next. “You know, I knew you were this pretty little popular chick that has lots of friends and whatever, but for some reason I never expected you to be so chill and nice. I mean like, I knew you were Henderson’s sister but I didn’t think I would be sitting on your bed in your room watching you put makeup on and whatnot.”
“Oh you think I’m pretty?” You teased, he blushed again in response, a little nod took over his movements with a shy smile, playing with his rings avoiding your eyes. “You’re different than what I thought too. I thought you would be loud and obnoxious like you are at lunch. And in Chemistry too. But you’re not talking much.”
“Yeah well…” He took a shot, his heart speeding up at the thought, “pretty girls do that to me I suppose.” Your face heated up again, him calling you pretty like that could keep you going for the rest of the week.
You giggle, “Well thank you Eddie. Okay I guess it’s time for a secret from me now. It’s not really mine but it is just a little embarrassing. Dustin still calls me Sissy… and I let him.” You tried not to burst out laughing at Eddie’ reactions, his head snapped up with his mouth open with a smile and eyes wide.
      “No way!”
“NO! Why would you tell him that! Come on Eddie. You are not allowed to spend time with my sister alone anymore!” Dustin must have come in while you were finishing your makeup and talking. He dragged Eddie out of your room, Eddie looking back at you with a smile tugging on his face.
      “I’ll see you at lunch?”

Have Brian Wilson and Elvis every been connected in any way? Like, did they ever meet, listen to each other's music, etc.? If not, what do you think would have happened if they had?
Brian adored Elvis, as most teenagers did in the early '50s and '60s. Brian covered "Blue Christmas" in 1964 and often cited Elvis as one of his musical inspirations. Brian loved him for his vocal abilities, not just his status as a rock-n-roller: "I liked Elvis Presley’s songs," he said. "... I thought Elvis was a very underrated singer, he was a very good singer. He was more of a star. He was known more for his fame than his voice. I think he deserved more credit for his voice."
Brian's affinity for Elvis is evident in his stage setup for his Smile concerts in 2004, which was the first time his incomplete masterpiece (originally set for release in 1967) was performed in its entirety for the public. Brian, like Elvis, has dealt with extreme stage fright for most of his career, so for inspiration, he includes notes from his band and an image of Elvis on his keyboard.
Tumblr media
According to band members Mike, Al, and Bruce, Elvis did know the Beach Boys and got to meet some of them in 1968 when he was preparing to resume live appearances and recording tracks for the Comeback Special.
AL JARDINE: Bruce (Johnston) and I met Elvis in the late '60s. He was working in the studio across the hall from us at Western. Bruce and I went over and introduced ourselves and he was very delighted to see us. He was trim and great looking, just like his album covers. He hadn’t gone back out on the road yet. We encouraged him to get back to work and he took us up on it. MIKE LOVE: He was in the big room at Western and had his cape on at the time (laughs). He was preparing to go back out on tour and he was asking us, “Well, what’s it like?” He was a really kind gentleman. He couldn’t have been nicer. He definitely knew who The Beach Boys were. You couldn’t not be aware of who The Beach Boys were in the '60s.
Brian was not with them at the time and never got to see Elvis perform live, but their careers continued to connect in interesting ways. Jerry Schilling, a member of the Memphis Mafia and good friend of Elvis, departed Elvis' group in 1976 to begin managing the Beach Boys full time. He became good friends with the band, especially Carl Wilson, the youngest Wilson brother. "After Elvis, Carl was my closest friend," Jerry said. After Elvis' death in 1977, Carl offered to visit with Vernon Presley, Elvis' dad, to spend time with him and get his mind off his grief.
Jerry Schilling was also married to Myrna Smith, a member of the Sweet Inspirations, a gospel group that provided backing vocals for all of Elvis' stage shows. Myrna wrote the lyrics for many of Carl's solo projects, including a tribute song for Elvis that was being considered as the theme song for the 1981 documentary This Is Elvis. Carl wrote the music, played guitar and sang backing vocals, and Myrna wrote the lyrics and sang. The song was abandoned, but the demo tapes were recovered not too long ago.

JERRY SCHILLING: The song ... tells who Elvis was … the lyrics and the music. It’s simple, it’s sweet, and it’s deep. It’s emotional to talk about it, because all three of these people – who were so close to me in my life – are all gone. But boy, this is a great piece of all of their music left behind honoring Elvis, and done by Carl and Myrna.
Elvis and Brian also both got to work closely with guitarist James Burton. Burton was much more of a long-term staple for Elvis, but he played in sessions for Smile and remembered how Brian would invite musicians to his home and make them spend the night so they could play at all hours.
Now, we get to the best part: Brian and Elvis did meet once, and it's one of my favorite stories of all time. Here is Brian telling the story on The Tonight Show.
youtube
It's been told a few different ways (Brian, bless him, is sort of an unreliable narrator, so bear this in mind), but every version is just incredible.
JAMES BURTON: I walked into the big studio, and Brian Wilson was in there mixing a record that I played on. And he said, "Whatcha doing here, man?" [I said,] "I’m in the next room with Elvis rehearsing." He said, "Oh! Please, please take me to meet Elvis." I took him in and he walked up to Elvis and was just looking at him. And Elvis stuck his hand out to shake hands and he couldn’t move. Daily Express/Elvis Birthday Celebration at Graceland, 2020
•••
JERRY SCHILLING: We were at a rehearsal session at RCA Studios in Hollywood, and Elvis always prided himself on our security. There was security at the studio as well. This big, overweight, bearded guy came into the studio and went right up to Elvis and went, "Hi Elvis, I'm Brian." And Elvis was very upset with us thinking, "How did this guy get in here and who is he?" So Brian said, "I'm recording next door. Would you come over and listen?" And Elvis looked at us; it's almost in spite of us since this guy had gotten through. He said, "Yeah, I'll go over."  So we went over, and Terry Melcher, Doris Day's son, was producing. Terry played a track for Elvis, and Brian said, "Do you think we have anything?" And Elvis said, "No." And we went back to our studio. Later, the security guys told us it was Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. elvis.com.au
•••
BRIAN WILSON: I was recording with Terry Melcher at RCA Victor Records in 1975. We were working on the song “Why Do Fools Fall in Love?” Terry said, “Hey, Elvis is in the next studio recording.” That was a big surprise to hear he was in the studio next to me. So I walked into the studio and said, “Hi, I’m Brian Wilson,” and he goes, “Hello, Duke.” I don’t know why he called me Duke. I said, “Would you like to hear what I’m doing in the studio?” and he said yes. So we walked over to my studio and listened to what I was doing and then said he had to leave. It was a thrill to meet him and he was real happy to meet me. Rock Cellar, 2013
•••
BRIAN WILSON: Yeah, around 1969 we were recording in the same place as Elvis, and I asked him if he’d come across the way to our studio. He shook my hand and goes, “I’ve heard a lot about you. How you doin’, Duke?” He called me “Duke,” don’t ask me why. (laughs) So I figured okay, Elvis is like me, a joker, so I’m going to play a little joke on him. I knew he was a black belt, so I faked a karate chop and a kick at him. He blocked them both easily, and I started cracking up, to show him I was kidding, but he didn’t think it was funny and said, “Hey, Duke, don’t do that.” I said, “Hey man, I’m just kidding around.” So we talked about music for a few minutes, about “Good Vibrations,” and then the conversation sort of died down, so, to liven things up, I threw another karate chop at him. He backed up in his chair, says, “I’m a little worried about you, Duke,” and then signaled to his boys that they were leaving. I never saw him again. I regret that. He was quite an artist. Interview with Alex Simon, 2012
•••
What has been your most embarrassing moment? BRIAN WILSON: When I karate chopped Elvis Presley. He called me "Duke" - I was so nervous I acted stupid. It was in 1975 at RCA Victor Studios. After I did that, he said, "I gotta get outta here." The Guardian, 2004
BLESS HIS HEART.
This was definitely in 1975, not 1969, while Elvis was working on "Pieces of My Life" from the Today album. Around this time, Brian was mostly just fussing around in the studio, trying to come up with the Beach Boys' next album and attempting to produce small songs for other acts. Brian says he met Elvis while recording "Why Do Fools Fall in Love," which most likely means not his 1964 version but the version he was producing for California Music, a supergroup involving Terry Melcher, Bruce Johnston, Dean Torrence, and others.
This is the song he played for Elvis, most likely.
youtube
BRIAN: Do you think we have anything? ELVIS: No.
I agree with E, I think; you had to have the biggest brain imaginable to understand Brian's sound in the mid-'70s. The songs he'd come up with over the next two years are awesome, but weird, and you can tell this is an early effort in a period where he wasn't really trying very hard to complete anything. Actually laughing so hard at Elvis listening to this and just 😬
I don't think Elvis was actually mad or anything, there are a thousand stories of him and his bodyguards reacting quickly to any sudden movement and then relaxing once they realized it was just an overeager fan, and Brian is the biggest wild card, lmao. I'm sure if Elvis had no idea who he was at the time or how he got in, he was probably a bit unsettled but didn't want to be rude. Also very likely that Elvis was bored out of his mind recording in this time period and just wanted an excuse to procrastinate.
Getting back to the other ways they're connected, I love what Brian said, "Elvis is like me, a joker." That's so true. They are both always the Weirdest Person in the Room, which you can SEE in this brief meeting. It kind of makes me think they wouldn't get each other unless circumstances were ideal to really let loose. They both had bonkers, deadpan humor that would go over most people's heads, and they both loved playing pranks on people. I think they would enjoy talking about music and spirituality as well, though Brian would have to keep it to non-drug-related revelations. They are also both girl dads, and it makes me happy just to imagine Lisa, Carnie, and Wendy all playing together. Carnie and Lisa were almost the exact same age, born just two months apart. 🥺
And, to wrap up this incredibly pointless deep dive, what I would wish most is that them knowing each other would have sped up their mutual healing. Brian to me represents the impossible, one-in-a-million shot where the cycle of exploitation that befalls sensitive, genius people in the industry breaks, and someone who was taken advantage of regains control of their life and makes their art on their own terms. Like Elvis, Brian also dealt with enormous creative pressure at a young age, crippling stage fright, a sense of alienation from his peers, a longing to go beyond formulaic music and tap into deeper emotions, binge eating and general disregard for his own health, problems with overmedication, and eventually an abusive manager who controlled all aspects of his personal life. And just ... somehow, he got out of all that and got another chance. I dearly wish Elvis had had more time. Both their stories show how precious life is and how important it is that our loved ones advocate for us, even when we're unable or unready to advocate for ourselves. And to keep responding to the joy and humor and heart in ordinary experiences and people, even when life feels hard.
And they're both so funny, pleeeeeease.

Hi!
Idk if this sent the first time, the wifi i’m using is really bad, but anyway…
I’m not sure if you’ve already done this, but I was wondering if you had any recommendations on books about Elvis? I’ve already read Last Train To Memphis but that’s just about the only one.
I’m a relatively new fan, but he’s so magnetic and interesting — I’d love to learn more about him 🫠🫠
Thank you!! xx
Hi there! So, it's really a case of what you're looking for, because there are lots of different entries into the world of Elvis. Heads up, first of all: Everyone and their elderly third cousin twice removed has written a book about Elvis. They all put themselves at the centre of Elvis' life and decisions to some degree or another. They all talk about his excesses and problems as if they were not just as heavily involved and partaking just as much. Some will quote conversations with Elvis as if they are verbatim. A healthy dose of cynicism is needed throughout. Also, don't bother reading anything by The Stanleys. This is my golden rule. So, I assume you're going to read Careless Love by Peter Guralnick, but I'll recommend it anyway. It's a hard read towards the end, and Guralnick's own feelings kind of color things in contrast with the more 'objective' Last Train. Still, I consider it a must read. If you're looking for more of an overview using more than one voice, I'd recommend Elvis and The Memphis Mafia by Alanna Nash with Billy Smith, Marty Lacker and Lamar Fike. They tell a good story, they are 'characters' in their own right, and they give you a strong idea of the vibe around Elvis. Disclaimer: facts are sometimes less important than a good yarn. Like I said, most of his friends wrote about him at least once. Some are more entertaining and readable than others. Lots of people like Joe Esposito's books, such as Good Rockin' Tonight and Elvis- Straight Up, because he comes across as personable and more respectful. Just remember that he was reporting back to The Colonel and good friends with Priscilla, Lisa and EPE. Same with longtime EPE employee Jerry Schilling's Me and Guy Named Elvis, but I like that he was quite different from the rest of the Memphis Mafia and this colours his stories. I really enjoyed Larry Geller's If I Can Dream. While the man loves the sound of his own voice, he also gives an insight into Elvis' struggles in the mid-60s with losing touch with himself and the life he is living. He saw Elvis in a way that most of the other guys couldn't comprehend because of their backgrounds maybe. Some of his stories also have a weird surreal truly Elvis quality. To get a glimpse into Elvis's upbringing and strongest relationship, Elvis and Gladys by Elaine Dundy is a good one. He makes much more sense when you feel you understand where he came from, at least to me. In terms of the women, Linda Thompson's A Little Thing Called Life is a fun read. She probably got to a more intimate insight into Elvis as a famous boyfriend than any of the other women, including Priscilla, in my opinion. She knows how to spin a tale too. June Juanico's Elvis: In the Twilight of Memory is a swoonworthy dream. She is a great writer, and got to sample some pre-superstar boyfriend Elvis. I also enjoyed Joyce Bova's Don't Ask Forever. It gives a view of how it must have been to be one of his side-chicks- Elvis had a new phone line installed in her apartment just for him and would try and get her to skip work (At Capitol Hill!) because her work was less important than his! If you're interested in any of Elvis's work, I highly, devotedly recommend Ernst Jorgensen's Elvis: A Life in Music. This man is the one who should get all the credit for Elvis's legacy continuing so far. Forget EPE, RCA, Sony, all of them. He is the supreme Elvis historian, has scoured and catalogued the vaults for all Elvis' recorded material. He is involved with the FTD label, which rescued and released all the outtakes, alternate versions, studio banter, concert soundboard recordings, everything. He is my hero. I think everyone has a different version of Elvis that they love, so if anyone else has any other recommendations, please chime in! And remember, we don't read a Stanley. Thank you for reaching out. Let me know what you end up reading next, I love a book discussion!

Maybe She's Not Such a Heinous Bitch After All
For @lockedinthelabyrinth
It was inevitable this season that without Ben, Klaus either had to learn independence, get another enabler, or find another abuser.  Now we know.
A lot of people look at an abusive situation and ask, “Why don’t they just leave?”
Well, The Umbrella Academy just showed you exactly why.  Steve Blackman et al. revealed that the same mechanism that keeps people with their abusers actually exists in you.  You went through the thought process with Klaus this season, wondering whether this Reginald is actually different, and while you probably didn’t reach full faith in him, you did doubt he’s all that bad.  We’re told that bad people only do bad things and good people only do good things, but never in human history has this been true.  You may write someone off because they’re a terrible person, but then they show a side that brings you close again—they’re a generous lover, or they buy you a present, or they take you to a playground and spend quality one-on-one time with you.  They seem self-aware, like they know exactly what they did to you and they’re sorry now.  But then, the abuse comes back around.  They’ve just managed to be nice enough to you that they can keep you on the hook.  That’s all they were doing.  And you’re never quite as immune to this as you think.  If you grew up in this sort of environment, it’s entirely likely you’ve pretty much lost the ability to see it coming. The warning signs just look like normal behavior to you.
Privately, to myself, I call this the “Heinous Bitch” phenomenon, after the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend song “Maybe She’s Not Such a Heinous Bitch After All” (which is brilliantly done in a 60’s girl group style, go listen to it).  It’s a song sung when the main character’s emotionally abusive mother starts being oddly nice to her, and having the relationship with her that she always dreamed of.  Many people go through this stage periodically with their abuser, and the relationship between Reginald and Klaus this season perfectly illustrated how it happens.  Hell, a lot of Klaus’ dialogue is eerily reminiscent of some of the most clichéd things victims say about their abuser during this stage—saying his father is different now (though in this case it’s literal), encouraging other people to give him a chance, all that.  But it ends like it nearly always ends in these situations: a return to the norm once the abuser feels like they no longer benefit from being nice.
This may not be the Reg of Klaus’ timeline, but Reg is still Reg, and knows himself so well he can pick the game up right where his other self left off.  He can tell Klaus is, at his core, a deeply empathetic person who is so desperate to refill all the scoops that have been taken out of him that he’s the most vulnerable target.  Fei foreshadowed this in the first episode by calling him the weakest link.
Do I think 100% of the kindness we saw from Reg towards Klaus was faked?  Not really.  I think there is something about Klaus that Reg came to like.  I think he has some genuine warmth toward Klaus, but it doesn’t go very deep.  I got a touch of regret out of Colm’s performance as he was leaving Klaus to die.  Others might disagree.  But he didn’t have to say the things he said.  He could have just shut Klaus out with no explanation, if he truly didn’t feel any kind of way about him.  Instead, he gives him an explanation and an apology.  The explanation is utterly, needlessly cruel, and the apology means nothing because he then proceeds to do the thing he’s apologizing for even as Klaus begs him not to.  Still.  In that moment, I think Reg was being honest—both about his poor opinion of Klaus, and about his regret for what he was going to do.  Otherwise, what good would it do to tear him down one last time?  Reg is slightly fond of Klaus, but he loves Abigail, and has chosen not to risk taking Klaus along the path towards her, despite that fondness.
And it’s bad.  It’s very, very bad.  In some ways, you could see it as being worse than Reg treating him with only cruelty.  Reg shows he is capable of cognitive empathy (an ability to imagine how someone must be feeling based on their circumstances, which is the kind of empathy ND people often struggle with), and when that’s the case, it can be forgiven if one believes he is also capable of emotional empathy (responding to someone else’s emotions with the same or similar emotion).  I think Klaus believed Reg finally understood him, and in a way, he was right.  Reg understands Klaus like he understands a puzzle he put together.  But understanding the damage his alternate self caused Klaus doesn’t mean he has had any emotional response to it, any compassion for him.  He knows exactly how Klaus is going to take his words, and says them anyway when it would have been kinder to simply shut the door and say nothing.
Klaus has seen that his father knows exactly what he did to him in the past (because he told him in the graveyard scene), feels like he has finally gotten some healing from it, and then been told he was worthless all along.  Finally, he is shoved to the floor as he reaches for Reginald.  That’s an angst dumpster fire that’s going to keep Klaus fans warm for a long time.
And Klaus’ reaction to it is immediate.  Once he makes it to the Void, he gives up.  He tells Luther it’s because he (Klaus) is always messing up, so it’s better for him to just stay out of everything and relax.  The way I take this, it means that Klaus is blaming himself for Reg’s betrayal because he fell for his manipulations.  Victims often let their abusers off the hook because they have accepted that they won’t change—they can, but it’s not a realistic expectation to have.  Luther was the perfect person to see Klaus through this because he knows the Heinous Bitch cycle so intimately, and won’t stand for Klaus wallowing in self-pity. I kind of think he must have told himself the kinds of things he tells Klaus here, to break himself out of his own funk.
This is how the same people get in abusive relationships over and over again. It’s how abused people stay with their abusive partners.  It’s the ultimate trick of an abuser—not terror, but kindness.  And it is cruel.
