Sekhmet: A Kiddie's(?) Prayer
Lady of Red, daughter of Ra.
My thanks to you for my good health.
You held my hand as I put one foot after the other when I was ill.
You gave steady hands & good counsels on the ones who heal me.
You watched my back especially when I was unaware.
You defeated the terror & the evil I could not slay on my own. You pierced them with seven arrows.
You offered me respite when the climb is hard.
You put courage in my heart.
You put joy & merriment there too.
You defended me when I was vulnerable & scared.
(You taught me to do the same too, to those who need it.)
You reminded me to do the right thing when it was easy not to.
Please accept my Love. Please accept my awe & my admiration for you.
Please accept my gratitude for you!
May You continue to be my friend.
May You continue to look after the world, especially the ill & the scared.
May I make You proud.
(May You love me as I love You!)

Devotional poem for the winter solstice and birth of the new Ra:
Under the light of the old year's sun
I give an offering unto you
O' Great Ra,
Joyous of birth and warm,
O' Great Aten,
He who delivers the breath of life
Cold nips at the world
On the day of the shortest sun
From Nut's mouth you go
Until born anew into her loving embrace
Alight upon the mound
Upon the lotus
Upon the body of Geb which you warm
And direct Shu to give the breath of life
Humanity and all that is
Receives the ankh from your many hands
Oh great and old Ra,
Allow your anger to consume you not
May Ma'at grant you clarity
As Hathor shelters you upon her back
To heavens, among the stars you reign
Oh great and young Ra,
Your reign has yet begun
The ship has been moored right for you
The docks blessed holy for you
The gods hold their weapons for you
Set and Horus offer their arms to you
He who upholds Ma'at
He who enlightened upon
The waters of ever-changing Nun
He who graced the petals of the lotus
May the cycle ever renew you
Breath back the life that you give
Dua o' Ra
Dua o' Aten
Lords of the land
The purveyors of life
The givers of warmth
The hands who hold the Ankh

Quote
From now on, O living matter, you are no more Than a lump of granite surrounded by a veil of terror, Dozing beneath the hazy Saharan sands. An ancient Sphinx unknown to the heedless world, Unmarked on the map, whose timid smile lights up Only when the sun goes down.

Sekhmet’s fate for the wicked
She who loves also destroys. The Rays of the sun coronate Her, As She fashions Her weapon of your sins; Being of your heart, they shall testify against you, for sin honors not his creator; They will show Her where to strike. She will give you to the fire, a burnt offering to Her Father, An atonement to Ma’at, to whom you are a transgressor. She weeps for the injury to justice, And Her consolation seeps forth from those gashes which She bores open. No song nor plea of the wicked man shall assuage the fury of Terrible One, For Her heart has been made heavy by their grievous acts against Her Father.

Some ideas for Kemetics looking to mark the Eclipse if this is of interest:
Eclipses may have been seen as bad omens as it was potentially representative of Ra being defeated by a/p/e/p. Each year at Wep Ronpet (the New Year) Ra's process of triumph over a/p/e/p and evil is celebrated, so the disappearance of the sun in the middle of the year would certainly be of some concern. The concepts which we use for the New Year could also be helpful during an Eclipse:
Light candles where possible, electric candles will also work
Images, Statues, representations of Ra brought out
Imagery of Ma'at who is both a Netjeru / Goddess and the concept of truth, justice, and balance is also appropriate
Offerings, as simple as cool water, in specific to Ra and/or Ma'at
Prayers / Devotion / Poems to Ra and Ma'at
Loud noises! Scare away the evil -- sistrum / rattles / drums or percussion / music / etc.
Depictions of the smiting of is/fet and/or a/p/e/p
Various ideas for smiting of a/p/e/p that are used in New Year traditions include images of snakes that are in some way destroyed, the destruction of clay pots with images or words written on them, or similar concepts. The most common way to depict a/p/e/p is as a snake having been cut or stabbed with a knife or multiple knives, spears, etc.
You should avoid depicting a/p/e/p as a whole entity or representative entity (eg: whole snake) that has not in some way been shown as sliced-and-diced / destroyed / defeated / etc. Words and images have serious power in Kemetic practice, and we take away the power of a/p/e/p through depiction of its destruction right from the beginning.
Written down or drawn depictions can be destroyed additionally by tearing, burning, crushing, breaking, etc. the medium on which they were depicted (safety first, ideally try not to burn paper indoors, use a fire-proof vessel, and when in doubt avoid burning entirely unless you know you can do it safely).
Dispose of whatever remains ideally in an outside trash area if you can (to remove it completely from your home). If you can't get it outside right away, at least contain it within its own trash bag which you tie up securely, and then put in the household trashcan.
Light, prayer, noise, and smiting of evil: The perfect recipe for those who are interested in fending off darkness.

GREEKS GOT THEIR EDUCATION IN AFRICA
From 1900 to 1100 B.C., a great civilization reigned over what is now present-day Greece. The Mycenaens created works of art, established trade with other nations and lived in great cities. And then suddenly, mysteriously, the Mycenaean culture collapsed. Greece fell into darkness.
Nomadic tribes came from the North to where a bustling, urbane civilization once stood. Trade ceased, and Greece turned inward. For 500 years Greece stood silent, in what historians now call the Greek Dark Ages. And then, almost overnight in historical terms, a new dawn broke over Greece. Homer created his epic poems the "Iliad" and the "Odyssey," emphasizing honor and virtue to his new countrymen. Trade resumed, once separate city-states united into a democratic republic. Classical Greece was born.
Where did this meteoric rise to prominence come from? Scholars attribute much of Greece's development to its internalization. For 500 years it was peacefully allowed to redevelop itself, astoundingly without any outside threats. But the loftiest of the pursuits of the Greeks would not have been possible were it not for another nearby civilization, one that was established millennia before even Mycenae was founded. The culture was called Kemet. You know it as Egypt.
The civilization that built the Sphinx, raised the pyramids and built the world's first library also produced the world's first physician, created geometry and astronomy and were among the first to explore the nature of our existence. And they passed their knowledge along to the Greeks. Modern people, in turn, have benefited greatly from this early education.
It's well-documented that classical Greek thinkers traveled to what we now call Egypt to expand their knowledge. When the Greek scholars Thales, Hippocrates, Pythagoras, Socrates, Plato and others traveled to Kemet, they studied at the temple-universities Waset and Ipet Isut. Here, the Greeks were inducted into a wide curriculum that encompassed both the esoteric as well as the practical.
Thales was the first to go to Kemet. He was introduced to the Kemetic Mystery System -- the knowledge that formed the basis of the Kemites' understanding of the world, which had been developed over the previous 4,500 years. After he returned, Thales made a name for himself by accurately predicting a solar eclipse and demonstrating how to measure the distance of a ship at sea. He encouraged others to make their way to Kemet to study [source: Texas A&M].
In Kemet, Hippocrates, the "father of medicine," learned of disease from the previous explorations of Imhotep, who established diagnostic medicine 2,500 years earlier. This early renaissance man -- priest, astronomer and physician -- was described as "the first figure of a physician to stand out clearly in the mists of antiquity" by the British medical trailblazer William Osler [source: Osler]. In Kemet, Pythagoras, the "father of mathematics," learned calculus and geometry from the Kemetic priests based on a millennia-old papyrus.
None of this is to say that the Greeks were without their own ideas. On the contrary, the Greeks appeared to have formed their own interpretations of what they learned in Kemet. Nor did the Greeks ever deny the credit due the Kemites for their education. "Egypt was the cradle of mathematics," Aristotle wrote [source: Van Sertima]. But one could make the case that the Greeks also felt that they were destined to build upon what they'd learned from the Kemites.
The Kemetic education was meant to last 40 years, although no Greek thinker is known to have made it through the entire process. Pythagoras is believed to have made it the furthest, having studied in Kemet for 23 years [source: Person-Lynn]. The Greeks seem to have put their own spin on what knowledge they'd learned.
Plato's education may have expressed it best: The Kemetic Mystery System was based upon a wide array of human knowledge. It encompassed math, writing, physical science, religion and the supernatural, requiring tutors to be both priests and scholars.

Blog Overview
Hello and welcome to actually-the-antichrist. There are 3-4 main types of content in this blog-
Fire- aka My writing. I write stories of the gods and of the modern world. Most of what I post will be story snippets or designs (story/plot/character ideas) and research related to my wips. My current focus is on the Greek gods and a bit of the Kemetic pantheon. My current wip is a story about modern day Bacchants set in Athens, Greece. My primary genre is magical realism. *This is a religious blog. I approach all the gods from a religious perspective and writing is my way of praising/honoring them and their presence.
Information. I share info posts and personal thoughts/reflections within the broader fields of Classics, Theology and Religious Studies.
Rage- this refers to my political content. Politics-wise, I identify as an anarcho-polytheist. I remain critical of all structures of power and speaking out is my main method of conducting my beliefs. Therefore there will be rage in this blog. There will be disquiet. All political content will be tagged #politics
Religious stuff. Hellenic polytheism. Stuff about Dionysus. Stuff about the other gods, from other pantheons/ cultures. Personal anecdotes, tips, art etc etc.
These catgeories are meant to be more indicative than rigid and often there will be overlap. All politics will be tagged #politics and all rants will be tagged #tw rant/ #rant.
I hope that you may find some enjoyment and thought-provoking moments in the creative work that I do.
Masterlist:
Greek Gods
Two poems regarding the birth and untimely demise of Kore, not necessarily in that order.
Miscellaneous- "Getting through airport security is like crossing the River Styx", Anabasis of the people
Kemetic Gods
A Scene in the Egyptian Revolution - Heru, Set
Angels and Demons
Gambling with Angels is easy-but fighting them is a whole other business

Great One who rattles the sky, I honor you!
Strong One whose voice I heard from within the sandstorms of my mind, I call to you.
Mighty One who stands at the front of the barque as I row & row towards the light, I praise you.
(Fearless One who is strong enough to do what it takes, I admire you.)
May I remember You in the faces of strangers whom others so easily shun & misunderstood. May I remember You as I wander & leave what is familiar.
May I remember You in the stretch & the scrapes of falling on unexplored terrains.
(May I remember Your un-judging offer of hand; the counsel that yes, the desert tends to do that.)
But may I also remember the ease in swinging staffs & the power coursing through veins, Strongest of Gods. May I remember the amusement & the joy, even, in taking life with a stride. The laugh that turns frowns upside down.
(May You love me, as I love You.)

You’ve named things from pets to inanimate objects off of Mythology, Folklore, and Heroic poems (think Beowulf)
🤔🤔🤔🤔
Its very funny you mention Beowulf specifically in this because i actually read it out of curiosity when i was 11, a fact which i literally did not remember until right this very moment. But im wracking my brain right now and weirdly enough, i dont tend to name things directly after mythology or folklore-- my usual naming conventions are based more on what i perceive to be something's personality (or just me trying to be funny, shout out to the plastic dinosaur i named Slimbert Slimedrew so i could tease my exasperated partner)
I do however sometimes name things using i guess like... inspiration??? From mythology and folklore?? Generally i draw from my religion; my khopesh is named Iryt Ra, and i have another dagger with a less generic kemetic name too. Stuff like that is more common for me than taking directly from mythology, i think
