Kenhina:

They're the fluffiest most wholesome ship to ever exist. They're also opposites where Kenma is cat-like, introverted, cool, smart, and Hinata is puppy-like, extroverted, energetic, kind of stupid. It's an opposites attract kind of situation, I guess. Additionally, it is canon that Kenma, who hates exercise, thinks the pain is worth it when he sees Hinata because "Shouyou is interesting". They don't let their friendship get in the way of their sports, and actually challenge each other to make each other better because that's what real friends do. Also, Kenma is extremely shy, but Hinata was the one who got him to open up and enjoy volleyball truly.

Furthermore, Kenma and Hinata have the softest colour palette of yellows and oranges which remind you of summer. They are very wholesome and KenHina ship is the second most popular ship in fandom after KageHina.

In the timeskip, Kenma literally sponsors Hinata and funds his volleyball shenanigans. If that isn't sugar daddy of them I don't know what is. And Hinata promises Kenma to always stay interesting and play volleyball forever. They stayed in touch even after high school and they chat regularly (canon) and that says a lot because most people lose touch but not these two because they are the most precious ship ever and deserve to be appreciated.

Kenma knows he doesn’t like people in quite the same way that most other people seem to. It’s not just that he’s introverted, or shy, or closed off. It’s not just that he’s picky about who he spends his energy on, and it’s not just that he has super specific preferences, no matter how much he’s been accused of it.

He is introverted and picky to an extent—after all, the only reason he has the friends he does is because Kuroo dragged him willing or not into being his best friend when they were kids, and everything else just sort of followed—but the real reason he’s not had any serious relationships is more than that.

The thing is, Kenma’s been confessed to before. By perfectly nice girls even. Pretty girls. Smart girls. But he hasn’t ever said yes because he’s never really felt anything about them. He doesn’t know them well enough to like them even in the most general sense, and even though they’re nice and pretty and seem kind enough, he just…doesn’t really want to hold their hands or kiss them or do any of the other things couples are supposed to do.

It’s not just with girls. He feels the same sort of…almost ambivalence when it comes to guys too.

Although, when it’s just him and Kuroo gaming at his house, Kenma sometimes wonders how it would feel if instead of just leaning against each other, Kenma was curled up in Kuroo’s lap. He wonders if it would be weird, kissing his best friend, or if it would be alright because it’s Kuroo, and Kuroo is safe, familiar, comfortable. Wonders if holding his hand would be all that different from holding onto the sleeve of his jacket. Wonders if the time they spend together at the mall or at that one cat café that Kenma likes would feel different if it was a date.

There’s only one other person in the world who makes Kenma wonder things like that.

Hinata Shouyou.

It probably shouldn’t be surprising. Shouyou is different from most people in almost every way imaginable. He’s the exception to a lot of Kenma’s rules.

Kenma doesn’t like loud people, but he doesn’t mind Shouyou’s particular brand of excited babbling. Kenma doesn’t get excited playing volleyball, except when Shouyou is on the court opposite him. Kenma doesn’t ever really want to leave his house if he doesn’t have to, but then Shouyou invites him to a video game theme park, and…well, he can make an exception.

Kenma doesn’t find many people attractive beyond a simple aesthetic appreciation, but again, Shouyou is different.

From a purely physical standpoint, Shouyou is pretty but not exceptionally so. Aesthetically, there are more beautiful people in the world: that one setter from Miyagi that’s always in the volleyball magazine’s Kuroo likes—Oikawa—has the kind of looks Kenma knows people tend to trip over themselves for, and then there’s Akaashi Keiji with his pretty eyes, and even within Karasuno’s team, there are people like Kageyama and Sugawara and their manager, Shimizu Kiyoko, who better fit the standards of societal beauty norms.

The thing that makes Shouyou beautiful, interesting, is an almost intangible quality. Yes, he has nice eyes and soft hair and a sharp jaw, and yes he’s very fit, but all of that is secondary to the fact that when Shouyou smiles, it’s infectious. When Shouyou laughs, it’s like it’s the only sound in the world. When Shouyou moves—when he jumps in the air like he’s flying and when he spins around in excitement and when he runs a hand through his hair—Kenma feels like there’s an invisible string attached to his own chest that’s trying to pull him along too.

If Kuroo is comfort and familiarity and ease and surety and home and steadiness, then Shouyou is the rush of wind in your face and sand shifting under your feet and sunburn after staying outside too long and the curling anticipation of never knowing what’s next but trying to ready yourself for it anyway. It’s thrilling and exhausting in equal measure, and as much as Kenma loves him—even if he’s not sure, really, what form that love takes—he’s glad he doesn’t have to bear the full weight of Shouyou’s attention on his own.

Besides, Shouyou wouldn’t be Shouyou if he wasn’t always moving forward, blazing across the skies of other people’s lives like a glowing comet, drawing them in and wrapping them around his finger without even knowing he’s done it.

“The Hinata Effect,” Karasuno’s team had called it, their smiles wry and resigned.

People like to laugh that off, but Kenma has seen it happen to Bokuto, to Lev and himself. He’s heard about the time that Shouyouu met Ushijima and basically instantly became something like rivals-to-the-death—Shouyouu’s words—and he’s heard about how Shouyouu met Tobio, and he knows how that panned out. Apparently, there’s even a player from Date Tech that’s extraordinarily fond of him despite the fact that they’ve barely exchanged more than a dozen words between them.

Kenma knows he’s just one of the dozens of people who see Shouyouu for how special he is, just one of the dozens of people Shouyouu treasures and cares for. And maybe that makes some people feel jealous or insecure—he knows some people find it hard to love someone who loves so easily, to love someone who is loved so well by others—but, well, Kenma has never particularly minded being on the sidelines. As long as he keeps getting the chance to watch what Shouyouu will do next, keeps getting the chance to be a part of Shouyouu’s journey, the specific place he holds in Shouyou’s heart doesn’t matter so much.

It's enough to know he has a place there at all.

i like it platonically: they’re friends!! they’re guys being dudes. they’re rivals and teammates and regardless of their romantic status i think they hooked up at least once. they’re just a lot of fun—atsumu has a bit of a mean streak but hinata’s used to dealing with difficult people and takes it in stride (not that it’s really ever directed at him) and they improve together. everything i like about this ship stems from their friendship in the timeskip.

i’d die for them

aesthetically it’s GREAT: atsumu’s more or less built like a tank (fun fact! atsumu’s a pound or so heavier than sakusa despite being almost two inches shorter) and hinata Came Back Buff from brazil. atsumu has the permanent fox-grin going and hinata’s got a genuine smile that lights up the room and could probably cure cancer. also their hair colors are both bright and they complement each other.

the impact/their story’s more interesting than the ship itself: “i’m gonna set for you someday” AND THEN HE DID. this applies to pretty much every ship in this series though; i love Literary Devices <33

i love them!: their dynamic is fun! it’s lighter and playful but neither of them are afraid to challenge the other on anything and they’re both damn proud to be the other’s teammate. they’re more outwardly affectionate (especially when compared to ships like sakuatsu and kagehina, which i love to death but in other ways because they have distinctly different flavors) and they openly enjoy each other’s company.

would/do read fic about it: it’s kind of hard to find good ones but when i do they knock me Flat. i’ve recommended a few before :)

fandom ruined/is ruining them: i am really not a fan of fanon characterizations in general but fanon hinata paired with fanon atsumu? hate. i also really don’t like when either of them is treated like a rebound.

Life/Blog update: I’m super gay and ready to start acting like it !

Hi!! Welcome to my blog :-)

For 9 long years I have been an active member on this wacky site. Until recently, my blog name was slightly different (lily-potthead) and my reblogs were primarily aesthetic pictures like fruit and flowers, etc. Until now, I’ve never been an active poster, nor do I interact with many of the blogs I follow. However, due to some new life changes (turns out i’m a lesbian! who would’ve thought...), I’ve decided that it’s time to use this blog the way I always wanted to use it--to post my bullshit thoughts and reblog my favorite fandom posts :-)

I’m a 22 y/o girl in the southern united states who just graduated college and figured out I’m gay a mere 3 weeks into “adulthood.” I like to think I’m pretty funny and have some blog-worthy thoughts (especially when i’m high🍃).

Hello hello, thank you for the ask!

and I'm just going to say that I've only read to volume three of Haikyuu so far. I do plan to read it all, but I want to hyperfixate on it when I do... and right now I"m hyperfixating on JJK. I know they are related and have similar dynamics and character perspectives, but I really don't like having more than one fictional hyperfixation at a time because this JJK one is one of those intense ones, and I want to enjoy it to the fullest and give other fiction it's time without being... stolen by JJK?

Sorry about that rant. My head has weird ways of doing things.

BUT SHIPPING TIME!

Kagehina

I ship it! Not only do their positions require trust, but they complement each other in their skill sets, they bring out the best in each other. Again, I've only read up to volume three at this point, but from what I've heard about Haikyuu, they grow together and find thier true potential together. ALSO ALSO: Kageyama admires Hinata's joy for the game immediately, HInata sees someone very good, someone he'd like to beat. Kageyama gets concerned for Hinata's nervousness whilst also having no tact for how to help. HInata being there and keeping up with Kageyama when no one else would. They are a pair. "As long as you're with me, you're the greatest."

AND AGAIN: I like their dynamic first and foremost. Queer platonic sort of ships are what my brain gravitates to, and if there is extra romantic fluff that I like then I like that too but this aspec prefers 'you are my comfort, someone who's company I genuinely enjoy' and romance can be a side.

As far as an unpopular opinion... not sure. I like them as they are.

I don't know enough about Iwaizumi/Oikawa to have an opinion on it, sorry.

From the bits and pieces I've heard so far tough, they seem great.

I.... don't really ship it tbh. I feel like it's' very much for the aesthetic... altough you could have themes of forgiveness here? I just don't think their dynamic is 'I'd spend my whole life with you' sort of dynamic. Katara's too uptight and Zuko's seriousness would cause them to... get too tense I guess?

... although Kataang is... fine... ok.... still not in my fav ships whatsoever.

YOU KNOW WAT I DO SHIP THOUGH:

Suki x Sokka x Zuko.

And I'm not entirely sure why. They just seem like they'd make an interesting trio (romantic or otherwise). You also get themes of forgiveness with Suki and Zuko, silly banter with Zuko and Sokka, and of course you have Sokka adoring Suki.
