Note
I've been binging romcoms with my younger sister and we just finished "To all the boys I have loved before" and now I can't get the idea out of my head: reader writing letters for different starfleet members without intending to send them and suddenly the letters are gone and being sent to their unintended targets (lol, probably Jim did it not knowing that they were not supposed to be read or something). Problem is: our favorite vulcan will too be receiving quite a love letter. Idk, I just thought it was cute, you can ignore if it's too silly ^\\\^
This was such a cute request and I love rom-com-type situations so I ran wild. Also, I'm sorry that this took so long for me to get out I have been busy with school and other annoying responsibilities! I hope you enjoy it!
Title: Message in a Bottle
Pairing: Spock x Kirk!reader

Lieutenant (Y/N) Kirk had been having a totally normal day. She completed her duties on the bridge as normal and had just finished eating dinner with her brother Jim. Now as she headed back to her room, she could not wait to shower, crawl into bed, and enjoy the next few hours of sleep before she had to get up and do everything again. When she entered her room the automated door hissed closed and she was finally completely alone. She took a deep breath and turned the lights in the room on. She almost immediately noticed something that completely ruined her peace.
Earlier that morning, (Y/N) was clearing out her storage closet and had sat a white box full of envelopes on her dining room table so that she would remember to find a new place for them. That box was no longer on the table. Now, one might think why is a missing box of envelopes a big deal? Well, they aren’t. It’s the fact that the envelopes were all properly addressed and full of letters to people she knew that she never intended to send. A few sappy ‘thank you’s to old teachers, a couple to her higher-ups including Captain Christopher Pike – the man who told the Kirk siblings to enroll in Star Fleet Academy. These letters would be slightly embarrassing if they got out but nothing (Y/N) couldn’t handle. After all, everything she wrote in them was true and she appreciates everything those people have done for her. There was only one letter in that whole box that worried (Y/N)—her love letter – a detailed love letter – to one Commander Spock. She cursed herself for writing and keeping a love letter in the first place though she didn’t anticipate the whole box would disappear. She tried to think back to earlier to see if she could remember if she moved it, but when she left her room after lunch it was still on the table and she hadn’t returned since.
“This can’t be happening. It didn’t just sprout legs and walk away!” She said to herself. (Y/N) ran a hand down her face and thought hard. She paused, “No fucking way.” She exited her room at a jog and progressively got faster as she headed toward her brother’s room. She slid to a stop in front of the white door of the captain's quarters and rapidly slammed her fist against it.
“James, open the door right now!”
The door slid open revealing a perplexed – and slightly afraid – Jim Kirk. He knew he had done something wrong for her to be angry enough to come to his room calling him by his full name. Of course, he had no idea what he had done but he decided it was best to try to start off ahead.
“Look, I know you’re upset about-“
“Did you move the white box on my dining room table when you were in my room earlier?”
“Wait, what? That’s what you’re mad about?” Jim scrunched his face up and scratched the top of his head. (Y/N)’s eyes widened and she briefly looked around the corridor before shoving Jim back into his room and following him in. The door shut with a hiss and (Y/N) closed her eyes and took a deep breath in through her nose and out through her mouth. When she opened her eyes Jim was staring at her with a confused expression and his hands crossed over his chest.
“Please, for the love of god, tell me you didn’t mail those letters,” (Y/N) said as calmly as she possibly could. Silence followed her question and she already knew the answer.
            “Well –“
            “Oh. My. God.”
“There was a box of addressed envelopes on the table so I thought you needed them mailed!”
“Jim! Why would you mail someone else's letters? Isn’t that, like, illegal or something?” (Y/N) was absolutely freaking out and, for the life of him, Jim couldn’t understand why.
“I was trying to be nice! I knew you had a long day today and I wanted to take something off your plate! Excuse me for being a good brother,” Jim rolled his eyes at his sister and threw his hands in the air in exasperation.
“Well, jackass, a good brother would have asked before just taking a box from his sister’s room and now there is a love letter headed to your second in command!”
A long pause followed her statement. Jim blinked once. Twice. Then a prolonged third blink.
“What?” Jim had no idea what to say. (Y/N) groaned and ran her hands through her hair in frustration. She began to pace in the entryway and ramble about how dumb she was to write it in the first place and how she should have burned the letters when she had the chance. Jim finally shook his head to rouse himself out of his stunned silence.
“Why the hell would you write a love letter…to Spock? Or to anyone for that matter what is this 1812?” Jim chuckled at his own joke but covered it with a cough when (Y/N) glared at him.
“I don’t know! I like writing letters and I just started writing one day and it turned into a full blown sappy confession that I had planned to keep hidden till the day I died! Now it’s headed off to the last person in the universe who I wanted to see it.”
“Well, maybe this isn’t so bad.”
“I want you to stop talking.”
“No, I’m serious maybe this is what you two need to stop dancing around the obvious!” Jim gestured vaguely with his hands as (Y/N) ceased her pacing. She sighed and shook her head.
“Jim, we’ve been over this: Spock does not feel that way about me. And that’s fine!” (Y/N) and her brother had had many conversations about this subject. Always with Jim insisting that the feelings were mutual and (Y/N) denying that Spock would ever even look at her in that way. I’m his best friend’s little sister and his subordinate, she thought, He’s way too professional for that.
Before Jim could respond, both of their communicators chimed. They were being called back to the bridge for an emergency. They briefly held eye contact before rushing toward the door. As they jogged toward the bridge, (Y/N) continued the conversation.
“Okay did you just mail them today?”
“Why are we still talking about this?”
“Because I want to know how long I have to transfer to another part of the fucking galaxy to avoid embarrassment,” They turned a corner and the lights flickered before flashing red. The ship shuttered and Jim and (Y/N) struggled to regain footing.
“Is it bad that I’m hoping whatever just happened happened to happen to the mail room?”
“Yes. And that was way too many uses of the word ‘happened’.”
Six hours and several shots fired later, the trouble was averted. A rogue Klingon battalion had decided to attack the Enterprise while it was stationary and almost destroyed the engines but quick thinking from Jim, (Y/N), Spock, and Sulu had saved the day. (Y/N) was officially beyond exhausted. She was so tired, in fact, that she forgot about the whole letter situation and went straight to bed after the whole debacle was over.
Day 1 of waiting:
She slept blissfully and woke up rested and ready for the day. She had gotten dressed and ready and made her way back to the bridge. Unfortunately, her blissful restfulness was cut short when she laid eyes on a certain Commander and remembered the imminent embarrassment that was bound to ruin her life at some point this week.
“Good morning, Lieutenant Kirk. You look rested.” Spock greeted her with a nod as he fell in step with her toward the bridge elevator.
“Uh, yeah, good morning,” (Y/N) managed to only stutter once and she quickly cleared her throat. She shouldn’t be freaking out. They walked together to the bridge all the time. Of course, normally Jim is with them but still, casual meetings with Spock were not entirely out of the ordinary. As they walked, silence filled the space between the two and, to (Y/N), it was suffocating. Something on her face must have given away the fact that something was wrong.
“Are you feeling alright, Lieutenant?” Spock asked. His face was neutral but he side eyed (Y/N) intensely. Briefly, (Y/N) met his heavy gaze before looking straight ahead.
“Yup, feeling absolutely terrific!” She couldn’t even believe herself. Spock raised an eyebrow and opened his mouth to speak again but, luckily for (Y/N), he was interrupted.
“Lieutenant Kirk.” It was Scotty. God bless him! (Y/N) thought.
“What’s up, Scotty?” Was that the formal way to address him? No. But (Y/N) just wanted to get out of speaking with Spock one-on-one.
“I need to speak to you. There are some issues with a few of the privates stationed in the engine room and I could use your help to resolve the issue before I throw some people out of the airlock!” His accent was strong with annoyance and (Y/N) couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Sure thing,” She turned to Spock who had paused beside her, “You go on to the bridge, I’ll be in the engine room if you need me in the meantime.” Without waiting for an answer, (Y/N) hurried toward the engine room leaving Scotty to trail behind.
Day 2 of waiting:
It was only the second day, and Spock had already caught on to the fact that (Y/N) was avoiding him. (Y/N) knew it was not going to be easy to allude him while also keeping it a secret that she was doing it on purpose, after all – Spock isn’t an idiot and (Y/N) is anything but subtle. Spock and (Y/N) had a routine and of course in an effort to not speak to him (Y/N) had changed it so that she was usually off the bridge when Spock was there and vice versa.
“Lieutenant Kirk you are needed on the bridge,” Chekov’s thick accent crackled through (Y/N)’s communicator and she sighed. She knew Spock would be there which is why she was currently in the engine room recalibrating the warp drive. It was busy work that she normally wouldn’t do but anything to avoid the impending embarrassment.
            “On my way.”
When she arrived, Spock immediately shifted his gaze from his work to her. (Y/N) briefly met his gaze before walking toward her brother who was seated in his chair with his legs thrown over the armrest. She rolled her eyes.
            “What do you want, Jim?”
“That’s no way to address your captain, Lieutenant,” Jim had a smug smile on his face – as usual – and it took everything in (Y/N) not to smack him on the back of his head.
“Tell me what you want or I’m leaving. I was working, unlike some people,” She scoffed as she crossed her arms over her chest and leaned into her hip.
“Okay, I am sending you and Spock on a mission,” Jim’s smirk got wider as he noticed his sister’s eye twitch in annoyance. “The planet we’re coming up on is supposed to be abandoned but there should be evidence of a previous civilization. I figured with your archeological knowledge and Spock’s general smart-assery you two would fit the job perfectly.”
(Y/N) took a deep breath in through her nose as she glared at Jim. She sneaked a glance at Spock.
He was listening in on the conversation – an action he deemed logical since it also pertained to him. His eyes were focused on the screen in front of him but he could see (Y/N) from the corner of his eye. He noticed her normally relaxed state was exchanged for tensed shoulders and a glowering expression. Whatever had been going on yesterday had most certainly carried into today. He thought. (Y/N) Kirk was one of his closest friends just as James Kirk was. Though many things that the younger Kirk did were illogical and not well thought out, she knew how to get the results she wanted and always figured out a way for everyone to be happy or at least safe. Spock enjoyed her company even more than he enjoyed her brother’s. She was smart, kind, and usually quiet if it was just the two of them. She was a challenging chess opponent and someone dear to his heart. Not that he would say that to her.
(Y/N) sighed, “Okay. When do we leave?”
“Tomorrow afternoon. We’ll be in the atmosphere at around 12 o’clock Earth time so you’ve got plenty of time to research and prepare. Why don’t you and Spock take the rest of the day for whatever nerd stuff you need to do,” Jim waved his sister off before getting up and leaving the bridge. (Y/N) glared at his back as he left before begrudgingly walking over to Spock.
“Hey, Spock,” she said. Her eyes were focused on the ground rather than up at the Vulcan who was looking at her intently. (Y/N) took a breath in through her nose before finally lifting her gaze to meet Spock’s, “Let’s go get some lunch and we can talk about the mission.”
Before the Vulcan had the chance to respond, (Y/N) quickly turned on her hell and started walking toward the elevator. Spock easily caught up to her before the doors closed and as the elevator began to descend, Spock spoke up.
“(Y/N), are you feeling ill?” Spock dropped the formalities and asked straight out. (Y/N) lifted an eyebrow and looked at her Commander with a curious gaze.
“No, I’m fine. Why do you ask?” This was a stupid question, (Y/N) realized. Her behavior was at best erratic and clearly intentional so it was only logical for Spock to know something was wrong. She did breathe an internal sigh of relief knowing that Spock hadn’t received the letter, otherwise, she was sure he would have confronted her by now – mutual feelings or not.
“You’ve been acting strange for the last couple of days. I want to be sure that your behavior will not negatively affect your performance on this mission.”
(Y/N) fought the urge to roll her eyes as the elevator doors hissed open. Of course. She thought. He’s only worried about this dumb mission my dumb brother is sending us on to torture me.
“I am also worried about your well-being, Lieutenant.” Spock’s surprising sentiment almost made (Y/N) trip on her own foot. She cleared her throat and shrugged her shoulders as they turned the corner of the hallway.
“I promise, I’m okay. Just have a lot on my mind right now.”
“Ah, yes, the letter.”
(Y/N) swore her heart stopped right there in the hallway. She hesitantly looked at Spock, trying her best to keep her expression as neutral as his. She didn't know how to respond I could play dumb, she mused, but he’s too smart for that to work. The man knows my handwriting so it would be impossible for me to deny that I wrote it. She took a deep breath through her nose, Fuck it.
“Yeah, actually that is what’s on my mind. And honestly, I had hoped I could just ignore the problem but I should have known that wouldn’t work with you.” (Y/N) rambled.
“Why would this be a problem?” Spock tilted his head slightly and furrowed his eyebrows, something that (Y/N) found impossible endearing.
“It could ruin things! In so many ways!” By now, (Y/N) was pacing the hallway and Spock was more confused than ever. “You’re my superior officer and I just sent a love letter to you! Of course, I wouldn’t be dumb enough to send it that would be my genius brother. But I was dumb enough to leave the box out and allow him into my room! But I mean, who mails other people’s letters without asking? What was he even thinking?”
“(Y/N) –“
“I’m so sorry! I seriously didn’t mean to tell you like this and if I’m honest, I didn’t intend on telling you at all! My feelings were supposed to be kept to myself! Well, to myself and Jim but he’s a nosey bastard who obviously can’t mind his business! I don't know why I tell him anything and honestly, I wish he’d just – “
“(Y/N).” Spock, tired of listening to her pointlessly rambling on about how annoying her brother is – a fact he knew to be true – grabbed her gently by the shoulder to get her to stop pacing. Now that she wasn’t speaking and instead was staring up at him like a kicked puppy waiting to be scolded his mind went blank. Spock was officially at a loss for words. “I was talking about the letter of promotion Admiral Pike sent you. About the head of engineering position.”
She wanted to disappear. Perhaps if she willed it hard enough, she could fade from existence on the spot. For once, it was running her own mouth that got her in trouble instead of her brother’s. (Y/N) tried to read Spock’s expression but couldn’t and that sent even more anxiety straight to her gut.
“Oh.” That was all she managed to say. She quickly regained her wits, “Then just forget everything I said and we can just go back to normal!” She let out a nervous laugh that sounded more like a cry and started to walk in the direction of the cafeteria. However, Spock hadn’t let go of her shoulder and as she walked away his grip slipped from her shoulder down to her hand, stopping her in her tracks.
“Wait.” That was all he managed to say. His mind was still reeling trying to decipher her quick words. A love letter. He thought. She loves me? He couldn’t believe it. “You love me?”
Despite her distraught state, she had to admit she had never seen Spock looking so dumbfounded, as if what she said was something he had never thought of in any scenario. His hand still held hers firmly and he gently pulled her back towards him. “You love me.” He said again, though this time it seemed as though he was finally understanding the situation.
“Okay, Spock, you’re starting to sound like a broken record, and the record is titled Hurting (Y/N)’s Feelings.” She chuckled only to keep herself from bursting into tears out of sheer embarrassment. This was the moment she was dreading. The absolute end of a friendship and a lifetime of shame. I’ll have to go into exile. Maybe I’ll ask Scotty to throw me out of the airlock. She thought. Just as she was about to speak again, Spock dropped her hand turned on his heel, and headed back in the direction they came from. That was when the damn broke and (Y/N)’s eyes welled up with hot tears. Blinking rapidly, she haphazardly looked around the hallway to make sure no one saw her before jetting away in the direction of her room.
“You left her in the hallway?” Jim was on the verge of shouting. He was absolutely flabbergasted at Spock’s behavior. Spock rolled his eyes.
“I was unsure of what I was supposed to do.”
“So you decided to leave my baby sister in the hallway, by herself, after basically confessing her undying love for you.”
“You’re being dramatic.”
“Trust me, I am not.” Jim ran a hand through his hair and huffed out an annoyed sigh. He paced back and forth, a habit that Spock noticed the siblings share, before looking back at his second in command. “Okay, you have to go after her.”
Spock knew this. It was obviously the most logical course of action. There was only one problem: “What am I supposed to say to her?”
“Apologize for rudely walking away, first off. Then – and this is just a spitball idea – tell her you feel the same!”
Jim was actually convinced that Spock’s brain had short-circuited. Spock wasn’t firing on all cylinders because if he was, he would understand the logical thing to do. Secretly, Jim was happy this situation happened. He had been trying to the Spock and his sister together for months now but he found the process to be similar to cutting a tree down with a blunt axe.
“Beginning a relationship with Lieutenant Kirk would violate –“
“Not if she accepts the promotion.”
“She’d still be my subordinate!”
“Only in the same way Scotty is our subordinate! He only has to listen to us sometimes.”
“That is not how the ranking system works.”
“Who cares?” Jim was tired of arguing with Spock over something that seemed so obvious. Spock felt the same way. “Listen, if you don’t want to tell her you have feelings for her I can’t make you. What I can tell you is that no matter what you do the sentence needs to start with I’m sorry and end with something nice. Turn off the Vulcan side for a change, not everything you do has to be completely logical. Sometimes we just need to do things that we want.”
It must have been a strange sight. The commanding officer of the USS Enterprise stood stiffly in front of (Y/N)’s quarters. He was still trying to figure out what exact words he needed to say and he had taken to scratching at his cuticles out of nervousness. I should not just be standing here. He thought. Shaking his head and finally lifting his clenched fist, he knocked twice. Panic briefly set into his veins as he realized he was actually going to have to talk to (Y/N). A cold shiver ran up his spine as the door’s airlock hissed open and revealed (Y/N) on the other side. He could tell she had been crying, though the tears seemed to be mostly dry by now. Her red-rimmed eyes lightly glared up at him and she crossed her arms tightly over her body.
“Can I help you?” Her voice was scratchy and her words were punctuated by a sniffle. Spock felt an ache deep in his gut from knowing he had made her feel this way.
“I-“ He paused. Once again he was speechless but he was determined to make this right. “I apologized for the way I behaved. Leaving you there after such an important moment was not the right thing to do and I am sorry for hurting you.” Even as he did his best to keep his tone even he couldn’t help the slight waver in his voice.
“It’s alright, Spock. Honest. I’ll be okay and ready for the mission tomorrow. Like I said we can just go back to normal and forget about it.” She was offering him an out. He knew he could easily just take it and go but part of him, a large part of him refused to give up that easily.
“No.”
“What?”
“I do not wish to return to normal.”
“Oh.” (Y/N) believed this to be the final moment of friendship. He wanted nothing to do with her anymore. “Um, okay. I guess you can just do the mission alone or ask my brother to –“
“You misunderstand. I do not want to return to normal because I reciprocate your feelings of affection.”
Oh. (Y/N) thought. A moment of silence passed between them. Spock watched (Y/N)’s face for any sign of emotion but she seemed frozen. He wouldn’t lie, she thought. Vulcans don’t lie. “You do?” her voice was quieter than she intended, almost a whisper.
Spock took her hand in his larger one. “Of course I do. I believe an adequate way to put it would be you have bewitched me, body and soul.”
(Y/N) couldn’t help the giggle, “So you do listen when I talk about Jane Austin. I thought you found romance novels illogical.”
“Everything about you is illogical, but that is one of the many things I find alluring about you.” They both smiled. (Y/N) had only seen Spock actually smile a few times and each time it was like new life had filled her lungs but this time it was even better knowing that the smile was put there solely for her. And this time, she couldn’t stop herself from kissing that smile even if she tried.

Dr. Leonard McCoy joined StarFleet and was assigned to the Enterprise after a few unfortunate events. He left for the five-year mission right after his divorce, having known full well that the woman he married wasn't his soulmate. It didn't matter though, because Leonard didn't believe in that stuff. He was impatient, not interested in living alone anymore, therefore not waiting to find his soulmate. At the time, he'd loved Jocelyn enough to marry her. Only she didn't love him enough to want to stay married to him, or so she'd said.
Of course he had his soulmark, just like everyone he knew had one, with his shaped like a starburst and visible on his wrist. At his age, though, he felt that he should have met his person by now, the one he was destined to be with forever. So after the fiasco with Jocelyn, he'd stopped looking, figuring he'd missed his chance. Which is precisely when his soulmate appeared, and where he least expected it.
The Enterprise was making a scheduled stop at Starbase 42 to pick up supplies and some new crew members. Capt. Kirk had sent over the files, which Dr. McCoy decided to review before the ship reached its destination. Most of them looked pretty routine, a couple of ensigns for Engineering, three for Security. Then there was your file.
According to your bio, you were to be assigned to the Science Department, under Cmdr. Spock. You had been in StarFleet for a bit longer than the average crew member, and had risen to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (LCmdr.). However, to Dr. McCoy, that only meant you carried a wealth of life experience with you. The only family you had left were your two brothers, each with their own families, and a best friend who became more like your sister.
Leonard glanced at the clock and noticed it was time to head to the transporter room to greet the new additions to the crew. Though the information in your file was fairly standard, Leonard couldn't help but give yours a bit more attention than the others. It was like he was drawn to it, wanting to dive into it and find out all there was to know about you. He arrived at the transporter room and walked in, finding Capt. Kirk and the other officers waiting. "All right, Jim. I'm here, so let's get this show on the road," he grumbled.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
As the shimmering light-particles of the transport beam disappeared, you had re-materialized aboard the Enterprise. It was your dream assignment, to be on StarFleet's flagship, and you looked forward to working with Cmdr. Spock. And of course, you were excited to be serving with Capt. James T. Kirk, one of the most decorated and colorful captains in StarFleet. But almost as soon as you appeared on the pad, you felt a pull in another direction, something you hadn't experienced before.
Once everyone had arrived, the captain introduced himself and the other commanding officers. Your companions handed over their orders, then exited the transporter room to be shown to their quarters. You stepped forward and handed your paperwork to Capt. Kirk and introduced yourself in the process.
"At ease, Commander," Kirk smiled. "We're a little less formal and bit more family around here, not that I don't run a tight ship," he explained.
"Of course not, Captain, and thank you. I'm honored to be here," you responded.
"Your credentials are impressive, Commander," Spock commented. "I am looking forward to working with you."
"I'm fortunate to be on your team, Cmdr. Spock. Thank you," you acknowledged before turning your attention to the dark-haired man in the blue medical uniform. He was standing off to the side, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest. As you took in his appearance, his furrowed brow seemed to relax and you felt that same pull as when you first arrived.
Your silent observance of the man by the door did not escape Capt. Kirk's notice. He walked over to where the man was standing and clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Commander, this is our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Leonard McCoy. Bones, say hello to our newest crew member," Kirk grinned.
You stuck your hand out in greeting. "Pleased to meet you, Dr. McCoy," you remarked.
"Likewise," he replied as he took your hand and shook it. The instant your hand touched Dr. McCoy's hand, a jolt of electricity shot up your arm. It surprised you, but you kept your hand in his. What the hell was that? he thought. Instead, he inquired aloud, "Are you all right?"
"Yeah, sure, everything's fine, Dr. McCoy. I'm kind of a little nervous. May I be shown to my quarters, please?" you asked.
"Right this way, Commander," Spock gestured with his arm for you to precede him out the door.
When you reached the doorway, you popped your head back inside and caught Dr. McCoy's attention. "By the way, hope to see you around, Dr. McCoy," you winked and left the transporter room.
"So, that was inter--" Kirk started.
"Jim, no comment necessary," McCoy muttered. Despite his gruff reply, there was the ghost of a smile on his face, thanks to the Enterprise's new science officer. Interesting indeed, he thought.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Once inside your quarters, you started to unpack your bags. You hung up your uniforms in the closet and arranged your toiletries in the bathroom. The rest of your personal items were placed throughout your room. You were surveying your work when you heard a chime at the door.
Your visitor introduced herself as Nyota Uhura, Communications Officer. While you unpacked, she perched on the end of your bed and you got to know each other. She brought you up to speed on herself and life on the Enterprise.
The topic came around to your personal lives, Uhura mentioned that she and Cmdr. Spock discovered they were soulmates a few years ago. "What about you? Have you met your soulmate yet?" she asked.
"Sadly, no, not yet. But I hope my posting here will put me closer to finding out who it is," you replied, thinking back to your electrifying encounter with Dr. McCoy.
"Oh, really?" Uhura was leaning forward, her curiosity piqued. "Who do you think it is?" she wondered.
"Hmm, not sure, but I've been having this certain feeling, like whoever it may be, he's here onboard this ship. Add that to one of the many reasons I'm glad I'm here," you chuckled.
"Well, we're glad to have you. There's a 'Welcome to the Enterprise' party going on later in the recreation area. It's a chance for us to get to know you all, and for you to mingle with the senior officers," Uhura mentioned.
"Sounds great, I'll be there. Um, about what time?" you inquired.
"I believe the captain said it'll be getting started at 1900 hrs.," Uhura replied, then checked the time. "Oops, I'm supposed to be meeting Spock in a few minutes. See you later at the party?" she asked.
"You bet, I'll probably see if I can take a quick power nap before then. Want to be well-rested before meeting up with everyone so I don't say the wrong thing," you replied nervously.
"I understand that, but don't worry. Everything will be fine, and I already have a feeling you and I are going to be great friends," Uhura remarked as she walked to the door.
"Thank you, and I'll see you later," you called. Once Uhura left, you crawled into your bed and settled in for a nap. You made sure to set an alarm to give yourself time to get ready for the party, then closed your eyes and drifted off to sleep.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Back in his quarters, Dr. McCoy was reviewing some information on his PADD when his door chimed. At first, he ignored it, because he rarely had visitors and didn't want to be disturbed. When it chimed again, he rolled his eyes and strode to the door. He opened it, only to find Capt. Kirk on the other side, grinning from ear to ear. "What do you want, Jim? I was in the middle of something important when you interrupted me," he bristled.
"Hey, Bones, good to see you," Kirk replied as he breezed past his friend and plopped into a chair.
"Make yourself at home, Jim, by all means," McCoy stated dryly. "Whatever it is, the answer is no."
"Wanted to drop by and let you know there's a 'Welcome to the Enterprise' party for all the senior officers to mingle with the newbies. Now I know none of them are medical, but it would be nice if you'd put in an appearance. By the way, that new one on Spock's team was pretty cute, wasn't she?" Kirk asked.
"Jim, I haven't got time for this. Besides, what are we, in high school?" McCoy retorted.
Kirk shrugged. "Looks like the two of you shared a moment in the transporter room, that's all," he remarked.
McCoy rolled his eyes at Kirk's observation. "There was no 'moment', it was an introduction. Stop trying to make something out of nothing. Except it didn't feel like 'nothing' when our hands touched, he thought. "Look, I'll try to swing by, if I get a chance. Good enough?"
"That's the spirit, Bones! See you later," Kirk hastily replied, clapping a hand on his friend's shoulder before bolting out of the room.
McCoy shook his head, then went back to where he'd left his PADD. He picked it up, intending to read, but instead stared off ahead, deep in thought. What would it hurt to show up for a drink or two? I suppose that would count as 'putting in an appearance', he reasoned with himself.
His mind made up, Leonard changed into a more casual attire of jeans with a hole in the right knee and a navy-blue Henley. He left the top two buttons undone and pushed the sleeves up to his elbows. He slipped on his well-worn dark brown cowboy boots and dabbed on some cologne before heading out the door to the rec area.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
You entered the rec area a little after 1900 hrs., when Uhura said the party would be starting. As soon as you walked in, your eyes scanned the area for her or anyone else you recognized. Fortunately, the captain soon spotted you and waved you over to his table.
On your way to meet him, you wandered past a beautiful mahogany pool table with clawfoot legs. It was covered in blue felt and had leather nets under each of the six pockets to catch any one of the fifteen brightly colored orbs. Hmm, wonder who might be up for a game or two later, you thought as you ran your hands along the rails.
There were two open chairs on the captain's left side, one putting you next to him or, the other, Lt. Uhura. You chose to sit next to Uhura, who immediately stood to give you a hug and raved about your outfit. You were wearing jeans with a pastel purple, off-the-shoulder peasant blouse, along with your black suede ankle boots. Around your neck was a teardrop pendant of your birthstone on a delicate silver chain.
You were about halfway through your first margarita, when you heard a deep voice behind you ask, "Is this seat taken?"
Turning around, you were pleasantly surprised to see Dr. McCoy standing behind you, a glass of bourbon in his hand. "Um, n-no, Dr. McCoy," you stammered. Way to go, you berated yourself with a mental facepalm.
"Relax, Commander," McCoy chuckled. "Please call me Leonard."
You gave him your name in return, stating it was better than being called "Commander" all the time. "Especially with so many of us around," you joked.
The captain finally noticed that Dr. McCoy had joined the table and taken the seat next to him. "Bones, you made it after all. Good to see you!" Capt. Kirk exclaimed.
"Why thank you, Jim, I was beginning to wonder if you were even going to notice," McCoy replied.
The doctor's nickname used by the captain did not escape your notice, but you filed it away to ask about later. "So, Leonard, tell me about where you're from," you started.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Your conversation with Dr. McCoy stretched far into the evening, the two of you asking questions to better get to know each other. Eventually, your Q & A transitioned to the pool table for a friendly game of 8-ball. One by one, the others left the recreation area and returned to their quarters. Neither you nor Leonard noticed you were the only ones left until you were deep into your third game of pool, with you lining up your shot.
Standing up after watching the #15 roll into the corner pocket, you looked around at the empty recreation area. "Leonard, what time is it?" you asked.
He checked the time and was surprised at the hour as well as the deserted room. "It's after midnight. Guess time really does fly when you're having fun," he grinned. "Your shot, darlin'," he drawled. You noticed his Southern accent was a bit more pronounced after a few rounds of bourbon.
"Okay, but after I knock in this #12, I'm on the 8-ball," you smirked. You took your time to survey all the angles before settling in to take your shot. With a smooth, fluid stroke, the cue ball connected with the object ball, which went in the side pocket. The 8-ball was of little challenge to you as well, sailing into the exact pocket you intended.
"Well, I guess that's the game, then," McCoy remarked. You gave him a small curtsy before placing your cue stick on the table and returning to finish your drink. "Where'd you learn to play like that?" he wondered.
"Had a pool table in the basement growing up. I used to spend quite a few hours a day, practicing until I was good enough to win against my brothers and all their friends. Then I met my best friend at the Academy, and we took turns, um, how shall I say this? Oh, yeah. Separating the new recruits from their money," you grinned sheepishly.
Leonard threw his head back and laughed. "You are full of surprises. Which leads me to my next question, and feel free to punch me for it if you want, but I have to know. How is someone as lovely and fascinating as you are still single?"
You felt your cheeks grow warm with the compliment. "Well, I won't punch you for asking a question like that. The simple answer is, I haven't found my soulmate yet."
McCoy gave you a sideways glance, one eyebrow raised. "You believe in that? One person, one heart, all that?" he wondered.
"Sure I do, don't you?" you replied. "I mean, a person as handsome and charming as you isn't attached to anyone either. Why is that, if you don't mind me asking?" you quizzed.
"I don't mind you asking, darlin'," he replied, then took a sip of his drink. "I was married once, but it didn't take. At the time, I loved her, and even though she wasn't my soulmate, I didn't care. I was too impatient in my youth and didn't want to be alone the rest of my life, so we got married. When I came onboard here, I was fresh off my divorce. When I met Jim, I told him that my ex got everything, and 'all I got left is my bones'. Probably why he calls me that," he muttered.
"Hmm. And here I thought it was because you were in the medical field. You know, a doctor used to be called a 'sawbones', I figured that's where it came from," you quipped.
"I guess it could go either way, although your explanation is a little less depressing," Leonard conceded.
You reached over and covered his hand with yours, trying to ignore the small spark at the contact. "Your soulmate is still out there, waiting to be found. I'm just sure of it," you remarked.
McCoy gave you a hopeful smile. "You think so? I guess I figured that with my age and jumping the gun and marrying Jocelyn, that I missed my chance," he replied.
"What do you mean, 'with my age', you're hardly an old man, Leonard. Besides, I'm betting that you haven't missed your chance, so keep the faith," you winked. "Come on, Doc, it's late. Walk me to my quarters?" you asked.
McCoy drained the last of the bourbon from his glass and stood up from the table. His grin grew wider as he held out his elbow for you to take. "Shall we, shweethahrt?" he said in his attempt at a Bogart impression.
You laughed as you looped your arm through his, and he tucked it in closed to his side. "Leonard, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship," you answered.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
And it was. At first it was you and Dr. McCoy, two friends sharing breakfast together on most, if not all, mornings. Sometimes the captain, or Spock and Uhura would be there, which made for lively discussions. But you were most content with the days it was just you and the good doctor enjoying each other's company.
It wasn't just the mornings, you took turns hanging out in each other's quarters, watching old movies or reading together. Other times, it was sharing stories about your lives, your families, even your Academy days. Being with Leonard was a comfort for you, a natural and easy friendship to fall into.
The first time you noticed your thoughts wandering from friendship to more was one night you were cooking dinner in McCoy's quarters. Your room was not equipped with a kitchenette, only a replicator, so Leonard offered to let you in to his to make dinner. He had some last-minute duties in the MedBay, but said he would join you later.
You were putting the finishing touches on your Cheesy Chicken and Broccoli casserole to put into the oven, when Leonard strode through the door. He stood behind you, put his hands on your shoulders and glanced down at the dish. "That looks amazing, sweetheart," he grinned and gave your shoulders a squeeze before heading to the showers.
As you watched him walk away, you couldn't help but notice how domestic the whole scene was, and how comfortable it all felt. Leonard coming home to you after a difficult day in the MedBay, to see you making dinner. Of course, it could also just as easily be the other way around, with him in the kitchen, waiting for you to come home. Then you shook your head to clear those thoughts. Although the two of you had become best friends, that still kept you in the "friend zone", right?
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Leonard reached for his towel to dry himself off after his shower. Coming back to his quarters to see you in his kitchen was a comforting sight to see, not to mention how natural it felt. Like it had been that way for years instead of the months since you'd gotten to know each other. Lately, there was many a night he'd lain in bed, staring at the ceiling, wondering if you were having as much trouble sleeping as he was.
Ever since he met you in the transporter room, Leonard knew there was something different about you, but couldn't put his finger on it. That night the two of you spent in the rec area at Jim's "welcome" party was one of the best he'd had in a long time. Sitting and talking with someone, finding out you had like interests and similar values was refreshing for him. You were sweet, intelligent, and you made him laugh, something his friends thought he needed more of in his life.
Most of his time was spent in the MedBay, caring for others, but there were times when he wanted someone to care for him. You certainly fit the bill for that as well, such as when you stopped by with a coffee for him on one of your breaks. Or when you sneaked into his office to hide scraps of paper with jokes written on them to make him chuckle. And your home cooking was some of the best he'd had since the last time he visited his ma on Earth.
There were dozens of reasons why and multiple occasions when he wished there was more than friendship between you. However, after his experience with marriage to Jocelyn, he was a little hesitant to pursue anything beyond friendship with you. Jim would probably say he was "spooked", whereas Leonard would counter that he was "protecting his heart".
Early on, you'd admitted to him that you believed in soulmates and were still looking for yours. He'd been down the road once where he ignored the concept, if only to avoid being alone for the rest of his life. You deserved that one person, that one heart that Fate had decided truly belonged with you. He'd never want you to settle for a life with him if he wasn't your soulmate. Thus, he continued to keep things with you in the "friend zone".
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
A couple of weeks later
"You want me to do what, now?" you asked the Captain.
"I know you heard me, Commander," Kirk replied. "It's a few weeks until Valentine's Day, and I think it would be a great idea to have a celebration. Music, food, drinks....and you dancing with a certain country doctor would certainly be all the entertainment I'd need for a while," he smirked.
You, on the other hand, rolled your eyes at his obvious matchmaking attempts. "Jim, we're just friends. And I resent your insinuation that Dr. McCoy would want anything to do with me beyond that," you retorted.
"Why is that so hard to believe, that Bones would be interested in you as more than a friend?" Jim persisted.
"Because...." you murmured, your gaze dropping to your hands in your lap.
"'Because....' why?" he gently prodded.
You huffed in exasperation. "Because I'm me, and he's....handsome, witty, fascinating, charismatic and could have any woman in the universe he wants. I've seen him at those diplomatic functions, Jim. Women more or less throwing themselves at him, hanging all over him and what does he do? He just smiles at them and turns on the Southern charm. Soulmate or not, what chance do I have," you whispered.
"Wait, he's your soulmate? How do you know? More importantly, why haven't you told him?" Kirk peppered you with questions.
"You're just full of curiosity today, aren't you?" you sassed. "I saw his soulmark on his wrist, and it matches mine here." You tilted your head and pulled your hair back to reveal a matching starburst behind your left ear. "I've been in love with him since that 'welcome' thing you arranged, when we talked and shot rack after rack of 8-ball till after midnight. But I want him to love me for me, not due to some pre-destined, matching tattoo on our bodies."
Kirk stepped out from behind his desk and took the chair next to you. "Listen. I've been friends with the man for a long time. I've seen him at those diplomatic galas, and let me tell you that I haven't seen him look at any of those women the way he looks at you," he explained.
"Now I know you're out of your mind," you snorted. When Kirk tried to protest, you held up your hands. "Stop. Okay? I'll do as you ask, plan your little Valentine's Day party for the crew. It's a nice idea, and I think we're due for some fun around here. Just please quit trying to push me and Dr. McCoy together, huh?" you pleaded.
Kirk reached over and sandwiched your hand in his. "Although I know I'm right, I will honor your wishes and stop forcing the issue with you and Bones. Fair enough?" he asked.
You nodded and stood up from your chair. "Yes, thank you, Jim. I appreciate it. If anyone needs me, I'll be in my quarters, trying to figure out how to put this thing together," you replied. You gave him a weary smile before exiting his Ready Room.
Jim waited until you were out of his office before voicing his thoughts. "I may have agreed to honor your wishes, but that doesn't mean I can't go at it from Bones' point of view," he vowed.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The following week, you were busy transforming one of the large, rarely-used conference rooms Jim set aside for you into a sea of red, white and pink. There were pink paper hearts attached to the walls, along with red cutouts shaped like Cupid with his bow. The long conference tables would be used for food and drinks, and were set up along the outside edge of the room.
You were scanning through the food and drink list on your PADD when Leonard walked in. A bright smile graced your face at the sight of your best friend. "Why, hello Len! What brings you here?"
Leonard scanned the room before answering. "So this is the 'secret project' you've been working on for the past week," he replied. "I've been looking everywhere for you. I started in the lab, then I checked your room. Had to ask the ship's computer for your location," he remarked.
"Yeah, sorry, Jim put me in charge of this, so here I am. And it's not a 'secret project', as you called it. We have all these decorations and the tables will be full of drinks and all kinds of foods," you explained. "While we're on the subject, I have something to ask you, Leonard."
"Oh? What's that?" he wondered.
"Well, this is going to be kind of a formal, dressing-up kind of thing. And there'll be music and dancing, so I was wondering....if you'd like to go with me....as my date?" you asked.
Leonard froze. A date? he thought. His heart wanted very much to take you up on your offer to accompany you to the party. He could picture you all dressed up in a formal gown and your hair perfectly styled, a veritable vision of beauty. His next mental picture was of the two of you walking into the party with your arm safely tucked into his side. His brain, however, reminded him that this was a Valentine's Day dance, and you two were not romantic partners, only friends.
You must have heard his brain's internal reminder loud and clear and interpreted his hesitation as a decline of your invitation. "You know what, never mind. It's all right. Forget I asked," you backpedaled. "I'm sure you have much more important things to do than go to a stupid dance with me," you muttered as you gathered your PADD and other supplies.
"Wait a minute, where are you going?" McCoy implored.
"Uh, I forgot I told Cmdr. Spock that I would come into the lab later and see if I can make some more progress on my assignment," you explained. "So, I'm sorry, but I can't meet you for dinner tonight, Dr. McCoy," you added, then hurriedly left the room without a backwards glance.
Leonard stood gazing at the floor, hands on his hips and shaking his head. As he stood in place, he was trying to figure out what just happened and how he knew he had to fix it. Uhura was watching your interaction with Dr. McCoy since he joined you, so she walked over to him. She placed a hand on his arm to get his attention. "Dr. McCoy, are you all right?" she asked.
He looked over to see the concern in Uhura's eyes. "I....I don't know," he rasped. "I think I made a huge mistake with her and I may need your help."
She led him over to one of the chairs, where he filled her in on his conversation with you. Uhura listened intently, waiting for him to finish providing as much information as he was willing to share. When he finished, she was silent as she thought about her response. "I'm going to ask you a few questions, and I want you to say the first thing that comes to your mind." McCoy nodded. "Are you in love with her?"
"Yes," he immediately answered.
"As a friend, or more than a friend?" Uhura asked.
"More," McCoy hastily replied. A startled look crossed his face at the realization. "I'm in love with her," he whispered. "But she said she was still looking for her soulmate, and I don't know what her soulmark looks like or where it is."
"Dr. McCoy," Uhura gently chided. "Do you really need visual confirmation of her soulmark to know that you belong together? From that first night, everyone could see it, based on how the two of you looked at each other, how you interacted. How long did it take you to realize that everyone had left?" she giggled.
McCoy grinned. "We didn't really notice much of anything outside of ourselves until after midnight. She'd just beaten me two games out of three at 8-ball," he chuckled ruefully. "I have to find her and tell her," he declared as he hastily stood up.
"Whoa, whoa, wait a minute. I don't know if now is the best time to tell her," Uhura warned, taking his arm to stop him.
"Wha--why shouldn't I tell her right away how I feel about her?" McCoy asked, confused.
"She may not be in the right frame of mind to hear it right now. Think about, Dr. McCoy. She gathered up her courage to ask you to be her date to the dance. When you hesitated to answer, her brain told her not only was your answer 'no', but that you didn't reciprocate her feelings. That's why she bolted out of here, she was trying to protect herself from embarrassment, from her heart being broken any further. Give her some time, then try and talk with her again," Uhura advised.
"How long should I give her?" McCoy asked.
"Try again after a couple of days, Doctor. She should be ready to talk by then," Uhura replied, gently patting his arm.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
You checked your notes again, frustrated that the data was not matching up with the results. Irritated, you pushed away from the table and flopped onto a chair. You closed your eyes as your fingers massaged your temples, trying to stave off the impending headache.
"Are you all right, Lieutenant?" Cmdr. Spock asked. "It is late, and I have observed that your evenings are usually spent with Dr. McCoy. May I ask why you are here instead, working?"
You took a deep breath. "I'm fine, Cmdr. Spock. Just trying to keep my headache at bay, that's all," you replied, managing a weak smile.
"If you are feeling a pain in your head, I am certain Dr. McCoy can relieve it with a hypospray," Spock suggested.
"Not when he's the cause of the headache," you muttered.
A puzzled look crossed Spock's face. "I do not understand. Is there some sort of problem in your relationship with Dr. McCoy?" he inquired.
You took a deep breath before explaining the events of the afternoon, beginning with Capt. Kirk's assignment of the Valentine's dance. Then you told him about asking Leonard to be your date for the dance, and how mortified you were when he declined your request. "The only relationship I have with Dr. McCoy is one of friendship. Though my feelings for him have gone beyond the friend level, I should have known better that his do not, and likely never will."
"To assume that Dr. McCoy does not think of you as more than a friend without his express verbal confirmation is not logical," Spock replied. "You must ask him how he feels about you."
"Since when are the human heart's desires logical? Anyway, I'm sure I've already embarrassed myself enough for one day. Permission to return to my quarters?" you asked.
"Permission granted, Lieutenant. I sincerely hope that your personal difficulties with Dr. McCoy will soon be resolved," Spock offered. "It is also not logical for two people as compatible as the two of you to be separated."
"Thank you, Commander," you remarked. "For your counsel and your understanding." You gave him a small smile, then left the lab.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
You had almost reached your quarters when the captain requested you to come to his Ready Room. "On my way, Captain," you replied, tapping your communication badge. In your head you grumbled that you hoped his request had something to do with real work and nothing to do with Dr. McCoy.
In the captain's office, you were briefed on an upcoming Away mission, in which you would play a part. A fairly routine mission, you were tasked with gathering soil and mineral samples that would be catalogued upon returning to the Enterprise.
The area where your team would be working had been declared as deserted. That meant you would not be at risk of encountering any difficulties from any local inhabitants of the planet. All in all, a good mission to help me gain experience as part of an Away Team, you thought as you stepped onto the transporter pad.
You also hoped that going on this mission would also help you sort out your feelings about Leonard and figure out your next move. As much as you didn't want to, you were going to have to distance yourself from him. It'll only be for a couple of days, you reasoned. When I get back, Len and I should probably have a talk about what happened and what it means for us going forward. Decision made, you picked up your PADD and reviewed the parameters of the Away mission.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
For the past two days, the MedBay environment was not the most pleasant place to be. Dr. McCoy had been more demanding and grumpier than usual. His staff had no idea that his thoughts revolved around you and how badly he needed to talk to you. He was trying to do as Uhura suggested, by giving you time to yourself. When he could no longer wait to speak to you and confess his feelings, he put Dr. M'Benga in charge and left the MedBay to find you.
He checked your quarters first, but when there was no answer, he figured either you weren't there, or you knew it was him and didn't want to answer. He left and headed down to the conference room, but no one there had seen you for the past couple of days. Finally, he tried the lab, praying to find you there. When he asked Spock where you were, nothing could've prepared him for the answer he received.
"What do you mean, she's on the Away Team?" McCoy demanded.
"I should think my response is fairly self-explanatory, Doctor," Spock replied.
McCoy rolled his eyes. "She's not ready for an Away mission yet, anything could go wrong down there!" he exclaimed.
"On the contrary, the Commander has proven to be more than competent in performing her duties. The captain and I felt that this relatively low-risk mission was the perfect one to introduce her to this aspect of her duties," Spock explained.
"Since when does something deemed 'low-risk' ever turn out that way? You don't understand, Spock, I can't lose her," McCoy implored. "Not before I've had a chance to tell her I love her," he whispered.
A faint smile graced Spock's features. "It appears I was correct in my theory regarding your feelings towards her," he answered. His tone that could almost be considered smug, if not for the fact that he was half-Vulcan. At the confused look on Leonard's face, Spock relayed the conversation the two of you had after he'd found you in the lab working.
"So she cares about me like I care about her," McCoy murmured. "What time are they scheduled to be back? I have to be there right when she gets back so I can tell her how I feel. I've already wasted too much time," he muttered, then jumped up from his chair. Before he could walk out of the lab, Capt. Kirk was at the door.
"Good, you're both here. The Away Team is returning to the ship ahead of schedule. It appears that they ran into some problems on the planet's surface. Something about a run-in with a band of native inhabitants," Kirk explained. "Possible weapons discharges and there may be injuries," he reluctantly revealed.
"StarFleet's report stated that the area in which the Away Team would be working was declared as deserted," Spock pointed out. "There should have been no reason for any discharge of weapons."
"You see?? This is exactly what I was talking about, Spock!" McCoy exclaimed, his arms waving in the air. "How could you send her down there, Jim? She's not ready for something like this," McCoy snapped.
"I chose the team based on their skills and how it matched the intel we were given. Do you really believe I like putting people I care about in harm's way??" Kirk retorted sharply. "I have a job to do, but so do the two of you. And right now, the Away Team is depending on you to carry out those duties to the best of your ability. The personal stuff can be sorted out later, all right?" Kirk barked. "For now, let's just get everyone home and safe."
Spock and McCoy nodded and each of them went their separate ways to begin assisting in the missions aftermath. Kirk was on his way back to the bridge, while Spock was gathering his equipment. "Captain?" McCoy called out before Kirk had fully exited the lab.
"What is it, Bones?" Kirk asked wearily.
McCoy walked over to join his captain at the door. "I'll be in the MedBay, standing by for any casualties," he replied, then started down the hall.
"Thank you, Doctor. And Bones?" Kirk added, causing McCoy to turn and catch Kirk's gaze. "She'll be all right. Besides, you probably owe her a dance, right?" he smirked.
"Among other things, Jim," McCoy admitted before finally resuming his path to the MedBay.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
When McCoy returned to the MedBay, it was a flurry of activity. The casualties had already arrived, only three of whom were being worked on by multiple teams. Head Nurse Christine Chapel met him near the entrance to give him a PADD with a rundown of the injuries. He had just started scanning the list when he heard, "DOCTOR!! Dr. McCoy, we need you over here!!"
McCoy all but sprinted to BioBed #3 and was shocked at the sight before him. You were the injured party, with a stab wound to your left shoulder that had seemed to stop bleeding. There was a moderate head laceration near your hairline, but its bleeding also looked to be under control. However, it was the 6-inch gash across your stomach that was of utmost concern, because it was still steadily leaking blood.
"Oh darlin'," McCoy whispered as he pushed your hair back from your face and tucked it behind your ear.
"Hey, Dr. McCoy," you rasped, which sent you into a minor coughing fit.
"Shh, take it easy, sugar. We're going to take good care of you, get you all patched up good as new," he soothed.
"Len....'m sorry....about earlier," you wheezed but were thrown into another coughing session. "Ow, it hurts," you whimpered.
"Hold on, sweetheart, I'll get ya something to take away the hurt," McCoy promised. One of the nurses promptly handed him the hypospray containing the pain med. Leonard gently rolled your head to the side for better access to your neck. He pushed your hair out of the way and pressed the hypospray to your skin and delivered the pain medication.
When McCoy withdrew the instrument, he was startled when he saw your soulmark behind your left ear, a starburst that matched the mark on his wrist. It was you. You were his soulmate, the one he should've waited for and he was the one you were waiting for. As he stood next to you, he felt the bond between you grow, as it sent a wave of warmth through his body.
You somehow found his hand and took it in yours, giving it a gentle squeeze before dropping it. The movement and seeing your hand hang limply at your side was enough to snap Leonard back into action and tend to your injuries. "All right, let's get this bleeding stopped so we can close up this gash and clean up these other wounds," McCoy ordered, getting back to the task at hand.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
For some reason, you couldn't move your right hand due to some sort of weight on top of it. You were having a hard time opening your eyes as well, though you did manage to crack them open halfway. There was an IV in your left arm and as for your right side, you smiled when you saw a familiar crop of dark hair. Leonard was hunched over the edge of your bed, his head resting on his elbows and covering your hand. You could only imagine how tired he must be after the events of the past few hours.
The Away mission was your first since you came aboard the Enterprise, and not exactly the low-risk scenario as mentioned in the file. The briefing said the area had been declared uninhabited, but the natives you encountered proved otherwise. Some of their weapons were rudimentary by StarFleet's standards, while others looked confiscated from other unsuspecting visitors.
You were the first to be attacked, by a stab to your left shoulder and blow to the head, then all hell broke loose. The wound in your midsection was caused when you stepped in to defend a fellow crew member. You were relieved when you saw the familiar surroundings of the MedBay, and even more relaxed when Leonard's face appeared. However, you'd have given anything to take away the pain and worry you saw in his eyes as he hovered above you, assessing your injuries.
Gingerly, you felt around on the bed for the call button, not wanting to disturb the doctor sleeping at your side. Your slight movement caused him to lift his head and for his eyes to immediately zero in on yours. A sleepy yet relieved smile graced his face as he slowly reached up with his right hand to cup your cheek. "Hi," he whispered.
"Hi," you whispered back. "How long have I been out?"
"About twelve hours," he answered. "You had me worried there, sweetheart," he murmured. "I thought I wasn't going to get the chance to tell you something very important."
"I'm here now, though. What is it you wanted to tell me?" you asked. You shuffled around in your bed, trying to raise yourself to a more upright position. Leonard saw what you were doing and helped to rearrange the pillows and angle of the bed to where you wanted it.
Leonard returned in his chair and pointed it so that he was gazing directly at you. He brought your hand up to his lips and kissed the back of it. "Ever since Jim handed me your file, I knew there was something special about you. I felt it when we shook hands in that transporter room, and I think you felt it too," he replied.
You nodded. "Felt like electricity shooting up my arm," you smiled.
"Exactly. The more I got to know you through the time we spent together, the more I believed in the idea of a soulmate. I only dared to hope you were mine. I saw the mark behind your ear, so now I know you that are the one I belong with in this life. Even without that, darlin', I fell for you anyway. Your kindness, generosity, your gentle spirit and so many more reasons are why I love you," Leonard remarked.
You could've been knocked back unconscious with a feather. Of all things you thought would happen when you woke up, a love confession from Leonard wasn't anywhere near the list. Although it made you happy to hear that he loved you in return, there was also a part of you that was having doubts.
Leonard mentioned that he'd seen your soulmark, and that he'd fallen for you anyway. Jim knew about the matching marks, and how you wanted Leonard to love you for who you were, not some cosmic tattoo. You'd put your heart on the line once when you asked him to the dance, and it didn't end well. Did you dare take that kind of chance again?
"Sweetheart, please say something," he implored hoarsely.
"Guess this means you owe me a dance?" you replied with a watery smile, as you decided to take the leap. "Len, of course I love you, and not because of some mark put on us by Fate. You are the one I've been searching for, and you're well worth waiting for."
That was all the confirmation Leonard needed, and more. He stood up from his chair and walked around to the left side of your bed. You scooted over a bit to leave room for him to sit on the edge of your mattress. Leonard placed a hand on either side of your face and tilted your head up to meet his gaze. As his left thumb gently caressed your cheek, you latched your hands to his wrists, with your finger tracing over his soulmark.
Leonard leaned his head towards you, tenderly brushing his lips over yours at first, then returning with more passion. His soft yet insistent lips moved with determination, expressing the depth of his emotions for you. When he nipped at your bottom lip, you gasped in surprise, creating the perfect opening for him to slip his tongue in to explore your mouth. Your sweet sound of pleasure that escaped seemed only to spur him on.
The kiss broke before the alarms could be set off on the BioBed for your elevated heart rate or any other escalated vital signs. Leonard leaned back slightly to give himself and you a chance to catch your breaths. He gingerly brushed the hair back from your face and tucked it behind your ear. "So beautiful," he whispered.
"And all yours," you whispered back. Your hand drifted up for your fingers to run through his dark locks, your nails scratching his scalp. The gesture earned you a deep sigh from him and he closed his eyes in contentment. "Have been for a while now, you know," you added. "I love you, Leonard McCoy."
Leonard opened his eyes and smiled softly. "And I'm all yours, my body and soul belongs to you. I love you too, sweetheart," he remarked as he touched his forehead to yours.
The two of you stayed like that, holding each other, until the sound of a throat being cleared broke the silence. Leonard turned his head slightly then rolled his eyes at seeing Capt. Kirk and Cmdr. Spock. The captain wore a look of smug satisfaction at seeing his two friends finally getting together. On the other hand, Spock's face held a look of concern about your recovery from your injuries.
"Guess you can't outrun Fate, can you, Bones?" Kirk crowed. "Seriously, though. I'm happy for you two," he winked.
Spock turned to you. "It would seem that you have received sufficient confirmation of Dr. McCoy's feelings towards you, correct?" he asked.
"Complete confirmation, Spock," you answered. "Did you come to gloat too, or was there something else you needed?" you inquired.
"Vulcans do not gloat. I am merely checking up on the health of one of my team members. It is fortunate that Dr. McCoy was able to successfully treat your injuries and put you on the road to recovery," Spock observed.
"Fortunate indeed," you concurred. Off to the side, you spied Uhura making her way to your bedside under what looked like quite a head of steam.
"I leave you two alone for five minutes, and you're down here causing trouble. Hi there honey, Dr. McCoy," Uhura greeted you and Leonard. Her words to you and Leonard were in direct contrast to those she aimed at Kirk and Spock. "All right, these two need their rest, so off you go. Bye sweetie," she winked. After your friends exited the MedBay, you and Dr. McCoy breathed a sigh of relief.
"Never want to be on her bad side," Leonard quipped. "Alone at last," he murmured, brushing the back of his knuckles on your cheek.
"Just the two of us now," you replied. You shuffled over further in your bed to make room for Leonard. He settled in next to you, curling his arm around you and guiding your head to rest on his shoulder. You slung your arm around his midsection and snuggled into his warm embrace. "Sweet dreams, Len. I love you," you mumbled.
"Goodnight, my love," he whispered, kissing your temple and closing his eyes.

Summer
Words: 637
Pairing: Spock x Reader.
A/N: not proof read. I’m sorry it took so long! Also it wouldn’t let me add a gif!?!
Request: You know I absolutely adored your writings with reader being Kirks sibling and better half of Spock. Now imagine. The bridge crew going on summer holidays together 🙈 city trips, time on the beach, what ever you wish 🙈Does that make sense? I can think of something else if it's not writeable 🤔 - @rosesandtheuniverse
______________________
“Spock!” you called as you rummaged through the hotel room dresser.
The man quickly came into the room. “What is it my beloved?”
“Have you seen the swimsuit I packed?”
“I believe it is in the top left drawer. Tell me, are we going somewhere that requires swimsuits?”
“We’re going to the beach. Jim invited us.”
“Last time we visited a beach you hated every second of it. Why did your brother invite us again?” The man was behind you now, opening the correct drawer and handing you your swimsuit before pulling out his.
“Because I’ll enjoy it this time.” You shrugged “Plus this is what shore leave is all about.” you turned towards the man and placed your hand on his chest and gave it a tap “We have to meet him downstairs in five minutes.”
“Are you sure that is sufficient enough time for you?” he teased
“Are you sure it’s enough time for you?” you teased back
The man’s lips tugged into a slight smile as the two of you changed into the appropriate clothing.
The two of you walked to the lobby together hand in hand and met the others. Greetings were brief and you were soon on your way to the beach.
Spock lay down a towel for the two of you to sit on and set up an umbrella for shade. Taking a seat next to you he smiled.
“What’re you smiling at? Don’t let Jim see he’ll explode.”
The man looked away briefly before looking back “I’m glad we get this time together.”
You placed your hand on his and moved closer “so am I. I love you Spock.”
“My heart belongs to you.” he rested his forehead against yours and you smiled at each other before moving in for a quick kiss.
“Guys, you’re here to enjoy the beach not each other! That’s what the hotel room is for.” Jim shouted from near the water.
Pulling away you leaped up and ran towards the sea towards Jim, Scotty, Uhura, Chekov and Sulu.
As soon as you reached the water Jim moved back up the beach towards Spock and took a seat next to him, where you’d been.
“I apologise for displaying my affection to Y/N so publicly-”
The man waved it off “Don’t apologise. You bring out the real Y/N, the sister I knew before life took over and washed her down. I don’t say this enough but thank you Spock.”
Spock looked at his best friend. “Thank you Jim, I am honoured that you allow us to continue our relationship.”
“I have absolutely no say in what Y/N does.” he laughed as he made a small pile of sand and began to mould it into a hill “You’re perfect for each other and I mean it.”
The two men watched quietly as you pulled Uhura into the sea, Jim noticed the love in Spock’s eyes as he watched you and smiled to himself.
Looking up the beach you smiled brightly at the two men and beckoned them towards the sea.
Spock was quick to his feet and moved swiftly down the beach to you. Getting straight into the sea he wrapped his arms around your middle and pulled you close, you’re laughs as he did so made his heart flutter.
As Jim reached the sea he splashed the two of you and you splashed the man back. Spock stood and watched the two of you before you turned and splashed him.
Before you knew it everyone was play-fighting in the sea. Chekov had jumped on Scotty’s back. Sulu had Pulled Uhura completely under water and Scotty was stood next to Spock, attempting to use him as a human shield.
You may not have enjoyed beach trips before, but this one was certainly one to remember.

Changes - Jim Kirk x Reader
Anonymous said: Ok so, I don't know if you're taking requests or if this is even considered an imagine, but... And stay with me on this one.... Can we have a kirkxreader (I thought of her being Bones' little sister but I give you free rein on that) oneshot based on this audio (https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMYh7hY6b/) ? I just think it fits really well and I love the  previous fics you have done for star trek 🥺
a/n: link to audio mentioned- https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMYh7hY6b/ I changed it a little bit because in the audio they’re married and that didn’t work with what I went with. and tweaked a line or two at the beginning as well.
warnings: swearing, trapped/trying to escape, arguing, talking about death and injury
reader is described as: female. no size, skin, or hair descriptors used :)
Tumblr media
James Tiberius Kirk. Otherwise and often referred to as the biggest pain in your ass to ever grace the universe.
You couldn’t even count on your fingers anymore the amount of times that he had gotten into trouble and you had had to bail him out.
He was constantly being reckless with not just his own life, but others as well. It drove you absolutely insane. Add to that the fact that you were hopelessly in love with the man, and it made things a lot worse.
Any time he went on a mission without you, you waited with bated breath. Unknown to you, he did the same.
If you were being honest with yourself though, Jim had saved you just as many times, if not more. It just so happens that both of you had a tendency to get into  bad situations.
The most recent occurrence of this had been a mission on a planet mostly made up of oceans. You had been sent to explore the surface of the oceans in a shuttle, accompanied by some science crew members.
You had flown the shuttle a little too close to the water at the request of one of the scientists who was trying to get life form readings, and a creature breaching the surface had knocked into the ship. As a result the shuttle ended up crashing into the water.
You sent off mayday signals immediately, hoping they reached the Enterprise before the shuttle lost function.
Jim had personally suited up and dove into the water to attach a line to your shuttle and pull you out.
The time before that, the roles were reversed and you had had to lead a small crew to beam aboard a ship that had taken Jim hostage and break him out. You beamed back to the Enterprise supporting most of his weight as he limped beside you with a fractured leg and covered in bruises.
Your brother was the one most irritated by these tendencies of yours. His best friend and his younger sister, always showing up in the medbay to be his problem.
You would mumble a “Sorry Len,” every time he sighed at the sight of you being carried into the medbay.
Despite your constant irritation with Jim, you did love him. Though you kept that to yourself, not even revealing it to your friends. Afraid of what it would mean to speak it into existence. Another level to your relationship with him that would inevitably cause changes. Change is scary, something you knew all too well.
So you continued on, saving him, begrudgingly thanking him when he saves you, keeping your feelings to yourself, and being bio-bed neighbors in the medbay.
__
What had begun as just a typical away mission to investigate a planet, quickly dissolved into chaos, as it usually did with James T. Kirk in your experience.
Jim had called your name and you joined him on the transporter along with a few other personnel.
The planet seemed normal, as they always do at first. On your way through a town that seemed to have been abandoned, Jim ordered everyone to split into pairs to get a look around.
You rolled your eyes when he paired himself with you but followed your captain as he entered a building.
Now, you wish you had done anything else.
The exploration had led the two of you downstairs and gotten you trapped. The door had swung shut upon entry and no matter how much you pounded on the metal, it refused to yield.
And as your frustration built, you turned it on the only other person in the room with you.
“This is just fantastic, Jim. Absolutely fantastic.” you say, venom coating your words as you shoot a glare in his direction.
“I don’t know what I did to deserve the blame!” Jim responds indignantly.
“Are you kidding? I never knew pain until I met you!”
“Oh please, and I suppose you’re the one that’s keeping me together.”
“It would seem so,” you answer through gritted teeth, trying in vain to pull the door open.
“Oh is it now?”
“Yes!” you respond, throwing your arms into the air.
“Proving my point!” Jim scoffs, as he looks around the room for any other exits.
“Yes, yes, helping man kind, helping friends. But the framework revealed the truth. It’s all ego.”
“Oh, ego?”
“Yeah!”
“I would love to deal with ego.” Jim says.
“Would you?” you respond, matching his sarcasm.
“Guess why? Your ego likes to pretend that you’re Jane Goodall saving helpless little creatures like me.”
You scoff, “I do not think I’m saving you!”
“Oh, of course you do!”
“Listen, if anything it’s always you saving me!”
“Alright, don’t start that.”
“Yes, yes because you saved me in the future, you saved me on Vulcan, and you saved me when we were trapped at the bottom of the ocean.” You finally step away from the door with a final bang of your fist echoing against the metal. “Well, I guess we’re stuck in here together.”
“Yeah, well. That’s what happens. Get stuck and almost die, just a normal day for us. Hopefully this time you don’t injure yourself trying to save me.”
“I’m allowed to want to save you!” you shout.
“And I’ll save you every time or I’ll die trying! I don’t care!” he matches your yelling.
“Me too, because I love you!”
“Yeah, well I love you too!”
“Well then why are we yelling?”
“I don’t know!!” he yells back and with nothing left to yell at one another, you stand staring at each other, both breathing heavily.
A loud noise startles the both of you and breaks your staring as you both turn to face the door. It swings open to reveal the rest of your team.
Your first thought, however shallow, is a vain hope that none of them had heard your screaming match with the Captain.
The sympathetic look you get from one of the security ensigns dashes that hope quickly.
You take a deep breath and steel yourself as you march past the team and out of the building, giving them a curt nod as thanks for freeing you, and ignoring Jim’s soft call of your name.
Once back outside you don’t wait for the others to join you before you open your communicator and ask Scotty to beam you back to the Enterprise.
Scotty is visibly confused when it is only you and tries to ask you what happened but you brush him off as gently as you can in your current state before rushing to your quarters.
__
Hours of thinking over your argument with Jim have lead you to his door. Standing in the hallway and grasping at whatever courage you have.
Your words die in your throat as you meet Jim’s eyes.
“You love me.” you finally are able to croak out, barely a whisper, a stark change from the shouting you did earlier.
Jim’s eyes soften, “And you love me.”
“We’re very bad at this.”
“I know.” he says with a short laugh.
“I’m still gonna get mad at you when I have to save you.”
“I would expect nothing less. Can’t have too much change, can we?” he steps forward and reaches out a hand to you.
“No, not too much.” you place your hand in his and let him pull you closer. “A little bit won’t hurt though.”

Jim Kirk x reader part 2
Part 1 here
Kirk P/O/V:                                                                                                           I pace up and down outside the medical bay waiting for Bones to come out and tell me if Y/Ns okay. Spock is manning the bridge but checks in with me every 10 minutes "Which is a logical amount of time." apparently, I sigh and run my fingers through my hair it's been two hours since we got back and she is still unconscious. The door opens and Bones walks out "Is she alright?" he nods looking annoyed "She will be, she will wake up in about an hour." I nod "Do you mind if I sit with her?" he shakes his head "No just don't annoy me while I work." I nod and follow him back into the medbay and sit down next to Y/N.
I gently tuck her hair behind her pointed ear and smile slightly "It's my fault your here and I'm sorry." I take her hand gently forgetting how Vulcans kiss and run my fingers along the back of her hand. "You know how I keep asking you out and you say no, that really hurts me. Because I love you." I raise an eyebrow "Wow its a lot easier to tell you when I know you can't hear me." I let go of her hand and lean back in my chair. The door opens and Spock walks in "How is she?" I smile "Should wake up soon, was that a hint of emotion Mr Spock?" he raises an eyebrow "I don't believe so Captain!"
I smile and look back down at Y/N "I didn't know you where related." he nods "Yes she is my sister, although she shows her emotions more freely than myself."  I nod "And how would you react if we were a thing?" he raises an eyebrow "Are you?" I shrug "If she agrees?" he nods "I do not see anything illogical about that." I grin "Now I just need to convince her that I'm not going to break her heart." he nods "If you do I will make sure that Dr McCoy gives you as many hypos as humanly possible." I nod knowing that he will stay true to that as Vulcans do not lie.
Y/N sturs slightly and we both look over, she opens her e/c eyes and blinks slightly staring at the both of us. "How long was I out?" I smile "A couple of...." Spock interrupts "3 hours, 32 minutes and 15 seconds." she grins "Thanks Spock." he nods "You are welcome." she sits up and I notice that her ears are tinted green slightly. "Now that I know you are alright I need to return to the bridge." she nods and he leaves as Bones walks in "Y/N your awake, you just need some quick tests then you're free to go." she nods and Bones scans her and takes her heart rate. "Alright you're free to leave, but you will need to come back in the next week." she nods and swings her legs out of bed.
I help her up and we walk out of the medbay and down the corridor to the turbo lift. "So how do you feel?" she shrugs and looks down at the floor blushing green "I'm good." I tilt my head "Why are you blushing?" she turns more green "Do, do you know how Vulcans kiss?" I nod "Yes, they touch fingers. Oh." she nods "I'm sorry," I lift her chin up so I look into her eyes "Why are you apologising?" she shrugs and I lean down and kiss her gently before pulling away "You don't need to apologise." her face is bright green now and I grin tucking her hair back behind her ears. "You know you're beautiful."
The lift doors open and we both walk out she walks towards her room and I follow her "You think I'm beautiful?" I nod and she smiles "You know I heard everything while I was out." I feel my self blushing and she grins leaning up and kissing my cheek "You should know I feel the same way." she disappears into her quarters and the door closes leaving me outside looking like a tomato. I knock and the door opens "You can't just say that and leave." she grins "Say what?" I smirk and wrap my arms around her waist "You know what."  she raises one of her eyebrows just like Spock would and wraps her arms around my neck. "Nope." I lean down and whisper in her ear "Maybe this will help you remember." I kiss her gently pulling her closer she grins and removes one of her arms grabbing my hand and intertwining our fingers.
I pull away grinning "Would you like to go out with me say tomorrow night?" she grins "That sounds logical." she kisses me again before yawning "You should sleep, I'll see you tomorrow." I kiss the top of her head and walk out grinning like an idiot.

Show some love! 📺💖Tell me ten of the most niche characters you’ve ever searched “x reader” fics for, and then share this with ten of your favourite people!
Omg, Aira, do you know how many times I pulled this up to answer and then was immediately pulled into something else??? I can't even count it, ANYWAY.
I don't think I can come up with 10 as I've been spoiled by all the great content from the people I follow, I hardly ever need to go into the search bar for a fic, but I'm going to try!!
1. Any Chris Pine Character x Reader. Let's start with Jim Kirk. The laaaaast time I made this search, a lot of sister reader fics popped up. As in, Jim Kirk's Sister Reader paired with McCoy. That's not even close to what I was looking for dumblr, thanks. (If only I had a Jim Kirk series that I could go back to and read...👀)
2. Carrying on with Pine, Steve Trevor x Reader. Again, last time I looked, I feel like there were 2? And I read both? So these two felt pretty niche.
3. I'm splitting hairs here! Alpha!Dean Winchester x Beta!Reader. I was really excited about this idea and wanted to see what else was out there. When I looked there was...1? I read it, it was angsty, I loved it, it's on one of my fic rec lists.
...
Tumblr media
3, AIRA, I HAVE 3. 🤣
Like I said, I'm very spoiled with things to read, everyone I follow are rock stars pumping out fics, it's a great time to be a reader.
Expect this to come back to you, because I'd love to know yours!!!

Dilemma of Love
Leonard McCoy x Kirk!reader
Others Masterlist | Main Masterlist
A sweet new engineer captures the affections of the Enterprise’s CMO but she’s holding onto a big secret, the Captain is her big brother and he doesn’t want her dating anyone.
Warnings: suggestive content, implied smut, mentions of an abusive relationship and miscarriage, protective!Kirk, age-gap, fluff, angst, established relationship, swearing, no use of Y/N

Leonard H. “Bones” McCoy MD, is one of the most well respected doctors in the galaxy and the current CMO of the USS Enterprise but right now, as his tongue is down the throat of a young and bubbly engineer in his office, he feels like a teenager again. She moaned as he bit down on her neck, leaving a nice clean imprint of his teeth on her throat. Her hands were tangled in his hair, keeping him as close as possible to her body.
“Oh Leo, keep doing that please.” That was what he lived for, the sound of her voice completely destroyed even before he worked his magic hands down her body and to her cunt.
“Anything you want darlin’.” He smirked, going back to work on her neck, her hips bucking onto his thigh, desperate for friction.
“Bones, I need you to- What the fuck is going on here?!!?” The sound of their captain’s voice broke the pair apart and they scrambled off each other. The girl attempted to straighten out her hair while Bones was desperate trying to cover his very obvious erection.
“Jim, how many times have I told you that you can’t come in here without knocking!”
“Really Bones, when I say that you need to get laid, I didn’t mean with my sister!” Jim threw his arms in the air, as if to prove a point.
“Your sister?” Bones looked down at the shorter girl who was now doing everything possible to avoid eye contact.
“Yes my little sister! You know the light of my life, my pride and joy!”
See Leonard was under the impression that the girl he was playing tonsil hockey with was just a random engineer who he was quickly falling in love with and not his best friend (and commanding officer’s) darling little sister who he never shuts up about. They had first met when he called down to engineering to get someone to fix a malfunctioning biobed, he expected Scotty to come up but instead was met with the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. She struck him speechless as she worked on the bed, making stupid puns and giggling every time he stuttered. Before she left, she had asked him on a date, smiling widely when he blushed and agreed to meet her that night.
He had never felt so happy with someone before, never thought he deserved someone so kind, someone who made him feel worth a damn. They worshiped each other, taking every available opportunity to rip their clothes off. Talking about everything under the sun in those moments after, their hearts still racing, sweaty chest to sweaty chest. She mentioned that she had an older brother that she really looked up to but never who he was. Bones made sure to note that when they were on shore leave next, to ask his permission to marry her. They had a wonderful two years together, just them against the galaxy. Now it seems that the Kirks are going to put him in an early grave.
Jim’s face was flushed with anger. “Well have you got an explanation for this!” Bones was about to open his mouth to give some kind of Sassy Remark ™️ back when a small voice piped up from behind him.
“I love him, Jamie.” Both men were shocked at her admission, Jim because his little sister had just admitted that she was in love with his best friend and McCoy because she had just called her brother Jamie.
“Jamie?” “Love?” They both said at the same time.
“Break up with her.” Jim said after a beat of silence.
“No.”
“Break it off or I’m removing you from the ship.”
“You can’t fire me.”
“Yes I can, I'm the captain.”
“I don’t give a shit.” They kept arguing back and forth, bringing the girl closer and closer to tears.
“I don’t think this is appropriate behaviour from either of you, can’t you see how upset you’re making the young woman.” Spock appeared out of nowhere, grabbing her shoulders and bringing her body towards him.
“Are you fucking my sister too?” The Captain snapped and that was the last straw for his sister.
“Why are you such an asshole! I found someone who loves me for me! Who doesn’t want me to change who I am! This isn’t like David!” She turned, tears streaming down her face and ran out of sickbay.
“Talk this out, I cannot see that either of you are fit for duty while emotionally unstable. On a side note, as both of your friends, you both love this girl very much and want what’s best for her, it is a fact that since she has commenced her relationship with Dr McCoy, both of their morals and work ethic has improved as well as work performance. If you were to separate them, I predict there would be a sharp decline in their work and mental state.” Spock turned and left the two of them, making sure the door shut behind him.
Jim slumped against the desk, rubbing his hand down his face.
“I really do love her Jim, this isn’t some random hookup, I fully intend on marrying that girl.”
“I know you’re a good guy Leonard, I just don’t like the thought of her seeing someone, especially someone in secret. When I first joined Star Fleet, she had been seeing this guy, David. I approved of him. He took care of her, he seemed like the perfect guy but he was beating her, really badly too. Mom called me a couple months after I left saying that she was beaten almost to death. She had gotten pregnant and he didn’t want the baby.” Bones’ face hardened, he knew that she had frequent nightmares, he often woke her up from them and comforted her but she never told him about what she experienced.
“The next time I saw her, she was so broken, it fucking destroyed me. This girl who was always smiling and happy was now withdrawn and silent. There wasn’t anything we could do to bring her back so I took her with me to the academy. Pike helped pay to put her through after he saw how brilliant of an engineer she was. Then when she graduated and was put on the Enterprise, she got her smile back. We kept our relationship a secret, she thought it was best, she didn’t want any special treatment for being the Captain’s little sister.”
“She’s a wonderful woman, I don’t know why she chose me but I want to spend the rest of my days worshiping her like she deserves. I would do anything for her, including staying on this god-forsaken ship.” Jim smiled softly, standing up.
“All I ask is that you take care of her. I’m sorry I reacted like that, I’m just so scared of losing her again.” He clapped Bones’ shoulder and began to walk out of the room but not before turning back and glancing at him briefly.
“You know, if you do marry her, I’ll be your brother-in-law and you’ll never be able to get rid of me.”
“Goddamnit Jim.” Leo bellowed as the younger man sprinted from the room.
A knock interrupted the girl’s sobs. She wiped her nose and opened the door to her quarters.
“Jamie, I’m not breaking up with him.” Kirk chuckled.
“I know, I just wanted to tell you that I love you so much and that I’m glad you’re finally happy, even if it’s with an old grump like Bones.” She gave a watery chuckle, more tears brimming on her lashes before grabbing her brother and pulling him into a firm hug.
“I love you so much Jamie.” He cupped her jaw, giving her forehead a kiss.
“Just promise me that anytime you need me, come get me ok, I’ll drop everything for you gremlin.”
“I promise.”She kissed his cheek and sent him off, closing the door behind him. Another knock sounded as soon as she did so. She rolled her eyes and opened the door again.
“When did Spock learn that you were dating?”
“He caught us going at it in Engineering once.” She answered and swiftly shut the door again.
“What?!”
“Hey Darlin’.” Leonard stroked her cheek softly as she slept on the couch in his quarters. Her eyes fluttered open slightly.
“Hi Leo.” He leant down and kissed her cheek.
“How are ya feeling peach?” The pet name made her cheeks heat up, as it always did.
“Jamie said he was sorry and that he approves of you even if you’re ‘an old grump’.” She giggled, Leonard’s face going dark.
“He’s a menace,” He pulled her legs up, sat on the couch and let them drop across his thighs, “He told me what happened to you Darlin’. M sorry that happened. You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to but I’ll be here if you’re ready.” She sat up and kissed his lips gently.
“I love you Leo, so much. You’re my everything.”
“I love you more sweet girl, my guiding star.” He kissed her again and they settled in for a quiet night of holding tightly to each other. A small box sat at the back of Leo’s sock drawer, just waiting to be used and he knew that without a doubt, it would be soon.

Is the Cake Okay?
Pairing: aos Leonard McCoy x Teen!Kirk!Reader (Platonic)
Summary: Y/n is sent to the Medbay yet again after more shenanigans with her older brother.
Wc; 786
A/n: Hey everybody! Okay, so I was reading To Annoy a Doctor, a lovely (3 year old lmao) fic by @cas-kingdom, which you should definitely read, because you should definitely read all of her fics, and in it, she mentions that Y/n hurt her rib falling off of a table. I was just thinking about how that might have happened, and then this fic happened! So this is really just a cas-kingdom ripoff lol I’m sorry ♡
Tumblr media
“Give it back, Y/n!” Your brother hollered, chasing you around the mess hall.
“It’s totally unfair for you to take the last piece of cake!” You tried holding the cake above your head, but you quickly realized that wouldn’t work as your brother was much taller than you.
“But I’m the captain.” He practically wined.
“Exactly! And shouldn’t the Captain be charitable?”
Thinking quickly, you decided to climb into the nearest table.
Several others watched in amusement as you slowly backed up when Jim got closer.
Spock walked in, looking unsurprised at the sight of you using the Enterprise as a jungle gym, “Y/n, do be careful when climbing on things. Your history with athletics is... unfavorable.”
You swiveled around, preparing to give Spock one of your classic comebacks when your right foot got tangled with your left, and you slipped off the edge of the table. Unfortunately for you, your ribs ended up taking much of the impact during your fall. Several gasps were heard throughout the mess hall.
“Y/n!” Jim ran over to you, immediately feeling guilty.
He lifted your shirt slightly and took a look at the obviously broken rib, and large gash that had cut through your side and was now soaking your shirt with blood, “Oh Y/n/n.”
“I will go and get Doctor McCoy.” Spock said. You could see the slight worry in his face, but you could tell he had just been waiting for this to happen.
Somehow, the pain was manageable... barely, but what wasn’t manageable was the sight of the blood that was now spreading across your shirt. You blinked away tears and tried not to pass out (or throw up) at the sight.
Bones rushed in and kneeled down next to you on the floor, “Alright, what happened- damnit Y/n. What did you get yourself into this time?”
“She was climbing on the table.” Jim spoke up.
“Traitor!” You said, pain evident in your voice, “I wouldn’t even have had to be on the table if Jim hadn’t taken the last piece of cake!”
Jim crossed his arms, “I tol-“
“I think we have bigger problems right now than dessert.” Bones rolled his eyes, “Y/n, I’m going to take you to the Medbay now so we can take care of that.”
He noticed how your state was declining, your usual attitude fading.
“Don’t pass out on me now, y/n.”
Reaching down, he scooped you off of your feet in one motion and started carrying you out of the room.
“Wait!” You looked up at him with wide eyes.
“What is it?” He asked, his tone serious.
“Is the cake okay?”
Tumblr media
It was strange, because if you took into account how often you ended up in situations like this, it would seem to anyone like you wanted to be there. But you didn’t. You really, really, hated being sick or injured. You loved Bones, you loved annoying Bones, but you weren’t sure if it was worth it anymore.
“Alright, kid. I hate to break it to you but you’re gonna need one of these.”
You looked up at the hypospray and grimaced.
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.”
You pouted, looking up at him with your best puppy dog eyes.
“Those aren’t going to work this time. Sit still.”
His usual gruff tone suggested that he meant business this time.
You sighed dramatically and turned your neck so he had better access.
“Good girl.” He was happy that you were complying for once.
You winced when the needle was injected into your skin, but it was over just as soon as it had started.
“Well, it looks like you’ve got a broken rib, and that cut will require some stiches.”
You groaned.
“Yeah, ‘ugh’,” He imitated your groan. “I leave the Kirk siblings alone for 5 minutes...”
“How ya’ doin, kid?”
You looked up and saw your brother. His expression was laced with worry.
“I’d be a lot better if Bonesy here would stop stabbing me with what he calls ‘medical equipment’.”
Bones rolled his eyes yet again as he walked over to the desk next to your bed, “Watch your mouth, kid.”
“Anyway,” Jim walked closer to you, you realized he was chewing something “I brought you this.”
You smiled at him when he held up a piece of cake... A half eaten piece of cake. You blinked up at him.
“What? I got hungry on the way here!”
Tumblr media
The next few weeks were a lot of fun. You kept yourself entertained by mercilessly annoying Bones any chance you got.
“Dr. McCoy?” You giggled.
*A sigh* “Yes, darlin?”
“What’s your favorite color?”
“If I answer that will you be quiet?”
Yeah, it was a lot of fun.
For you.

Sister (Part 6)
Leonard x Reader
Tumblr media
You eventually left Jim and Leonard’s apartment. Mostly because Jim came back and you didn’t really want to talk about your night with his best friend with him. It was just weird.
Jim pestered Leonard for hours about what had happened the night before. When it was clear that Leonard wasn’t going to answer, he changed tactics and decided to tell Leonard about your performance.
“She did a classical piece called “Bad At Love”. It was so fitting and her performance held so much emotion. I almost teared up. I recorded it for you.”
Leonard didn’t bite again.
“Well, she was still here when I got here, there was hair in my brush, and she left her dress in your room. I am guessing things went well last night. But please tell me she didn’t use my toothbrush.”
“Don’t be silly, Jim. She used mine.”
Before he could take it back, Jim was running around the apartment like a five-year-old who just found out he was getting a puppy.
“I KNEW IT!!”
“Jim, would you please sit down and act your age?”
“Dude, did you sleep with my sister?”
“I’m not answering that.”
“You just did!”
“Dear Lord, Jim. We are both adults and it is kinda hard to miss how we are together.”
“You are right there, but she’s my sister and you are my best friend.”
“And if all goes well, I might end up your brother in law.”
“You didn’t just say that...”
“Jim, I am sorry, but I love her. I wanna give this a chance and I would appreciate some support.”
Jim sat down a this and fell into silent contemplation. Jim thinking is a very dangerous thing and usually resulted in everyone being chased by some alien creatures.
“Jim, can you please respond?”
“Yeah, Buddy. I can support this. I owe it to her to stay out of the way of her happiness, and I have seen how you are together. I am ok with this. After all, you are still better than that ex-husband of hers.”
“Thank you, Jim. That means a lot.”
“But as payback for sleeping with her, I am telling the whole crew.”
“Jim, no.”
“Jim, yes.”
“Damned infant.”
“Sticks and Stones, Bones. Sticks and Stones.”
The call you got from Leonard that night had you dying while Leonard genuinely sounded stressed out. He was worried about what everyone would say when word got out. All you could say was:
“Act like its a big deal and they will make it a big deal. Shrug it off and they will get bored and leave it alone.”
Good advice in any situation really.
“I suppose you’re right, Darlin’. I love you.”
“I love you too. And no I am not just saying it because you did.”

Celebration
A/N: MERRY CHRISTMAS! I hope you all have the most perfect day!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Title: Celebration
Summary: You spend your first Christmas on the Enterprise with Jim and Bones.
Words: 898
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bones waved a hand to get Jim’s attention when he saw him walk into med-bay, signalling that he’d only be a moment longer. Jim nodded, stepped back, and then – very characteristically – started up a conversation with a passing nurse, who the doctor could tell with a roll of his eyes was certainly not interested.
He finished bandaging his patient, gave a warm smile and a “Merry Christmas”, and then immediately moved to save the poor nurse from her captain.
“Can’t believe we had to work on Christmas,” Jim complained as the two of them walked down the corridor.
“I’m the Chief Medical Officer and you’re the Captain of the Enterprise,” Bones told him, shaking his head. “We’re in space now. I highly doubt the ship could function without us working on Christmas.”
Jim shot his best friend a look. “That’s a bit vain, Bones, don’t you think?”
He yelped at the slap around the back of the head, childishly attempting to slam the door to his room in his face when he made to open it.
“You’re such a kid, you know?” Bones said, shaking his head and shutting the door behind him. He pointed at you where you were stood on a chair, setting up the last of the Christmas decorations. “You don’t think you’ve done too much to the place?” he asked, shrugging off his jacket.
“You guys have been working all day,” you told him, reaching a leg out to kick Jim when he attempted to push you off. “The hell did you expect me to do?”
“I’m not taking them down later,” Jim insisted. He opened a cabinet and pulled out a bottle of whiskey, tied with a red ribbon. Winona had given it to him before he and you had left for the Enterprise, giving her son strict instructions to open it only when you turned twenty-one. Admittedly, you still had a couple more years, but this was your first Christmas without her, worlds away from her, and he had a feeling you’d be needing a good drink of it soon.
“Later?” You turned to glance over your shoulder, eyebrow raised as your fingers paused in their hanging of the red tinsel. “You don’t take down Christmas decorations until the end of December, Jim.”
Bones huffed, pouring a glass of something on the table. He had no clue what it was, but he’d had a long day. “That’s what the wife used to say,” he said. “Threatened to murder me when I took the damn blindin’ reindeer lights down.”
“I’d do the same,” you remarked casually before stepping down, crossing your arms over your chest and turning to admire your work. A smile spread across your lips and you clapped your hands, immediately moving to switch on the lights. “Beautiful!”
Jim blinked against the lights that immediately lit up his room, almost stumbling back in his surprise. There were lights everywhere. And he meant everywhere. Draped over shelves, adorning walls, hanging from the ceiling… there was a giant tree in a corner, its branches housing baubles and tinsel and more lights, glittered pinecones and flaming candles that he hoped to God wouldn’t result in him having to deal with a fire later...
He sat on the chair next to Bones and waved a hand in front of him, barely holding back a snort when he saw his best friend’s eyes squeezed tightly shut. “How can you still see?” he asked you as you sat in the chair opposite, still grinning.
“Practice,” you told him proudly. You noticed the bottle in his hand and jerked your head towards it. “What’s that?”
Jim glanced down at it and placed it on the table. “Mom gave it to me before we left. Told me not to let you have a drink until you turned twenty-one, but I don’t think she’d mind if you had a sip now.”
At the mention of your mother, your smile faded and the excitement in your eyes diminished a little. Bones, who’d just about begun to regain his white spot-free vision, frowned lightly, sparing a glance at the Captain before turning back to you. He leaned towards you, resting his forearms on the table. “You okay, darlin’?” he asked gently.
You heaved a sigh and nodded, leaning your head in your hand. “Yeah. Just… I miss Mom. A lot.”
“It’s okay to miss her a lot,” Jim assured you, that brotherly protectiveness glowing on his face. “It’s your first Christmas without her. Which is why this drink is needed!”
The excitement returned a small amount and you let him pour you a glass, taking it from him and bringing it to your lips. You tilted your head, noticing the knowing look on Bones’s face a little too late, and let the liquid slide down your throat.
It burned.
All at once, you slammed the glass back down on the table and started coughing abruptly, only half-realising Jim had come around to aggressively pat you on the back above his and Bones’s amused laughter.
“How was that for your first glass of whiskey, hey?” Bones asked, clinking his own glass to yours before downing it.
“Disgusting,” you managed to croak out, rubbing at your throat. “I’m never drinking again.”
The boys would remind you of that statement after your hangover the next morning.
Either way, it was certainly a Christmas to remember.

Jim Kirk x reader (20/could be part 3 of its own story)
“We have to get rid of the gravity field that is holding the asteroid storm together,” (Y/N) reflected, ducking behind the door as the Roman guards regained their senses and began to fire. “Jaylah! Any ideas about disabling a gravity field?” You had shouted back to her, but her response came from directly behind you. “I can access the ship map on the console, but any gravity generator would almost have to be fitted in the centre of the ship.” “You mean the centre of the ship which we have to cut through god-knows-how-many Romulans to get to?” Jameson questioned, gritting his teeth and mirroring you in taking another shot. “No chance of disabling it from a distance?” you asked, hopefully. “That would require meddling with unfamiliar controls. Could take hours,” Jaylah shouted back, tapping at the console. “Yea. Centre of the ship.” “Brilliant.” You fired, the last guard finally dropping beside his comrades. “We need to move quickly then.”
You’d barely made it twenty metres before more guards appeared, but the ship wasn’t very big. Your comm buzzed as all three of you crouched, jammed together behind a console. On either side of you, Jameson and Jaylah popped out intermittently to fire at the approaching Romulans. “(Y/N), what’s going on up there?” Sulu’s voice crackled slightly through the comm line. “We’re getting Jaylah to the centre of the Romulan ship,” you replied, simply, “She can disable the gravity field and disperse the asteroid storm. Any chance a comms officer’s available?” “Sure, why?” You pulled the headset linking you directly to Sulu and the bridge off, passing it to Jaylah when she ducked back down. “I need a video link made to my headset so they can translate the Romulan while I make a distraction,” you explained, gesturing to Jaylah to put the headset on. “Gotta go.” You flicked your comm shut, ignoring Sulu’s protests, and straightened the headset over Jaylah’s white hair. “I’m going to make a distraction, and I need you two to bolt. The gravity generator should be that way, right?” Jaylah nodded her affirmative. “Wait, strengthen the gravity field. I’m going to redirect the ship away from the planet.” “What happens after that? We can’t leave it floating through space,” Jameson pointed out. “Romulan ships have an in-built self-destruct. This will blow up and take the gravity generator with it,” you explained, firing at the Romulan who popped over the console. “That’ll disperse the asteroids, right?” “What about you?” Jaylah asked. “Beam back when you’re done,” you instructed, ignoring her question for a moment. “I’ll do the same. If you’re not done by the time we’re entering the atmosphere, get back anyway and we’ll have to figure out another way.”
Your heart pounded in your chest as you ran, hand pressed tightly over the wound where a phaser had skimmed your already-scarred ribs. The corridor came to an abrupt dead-end when you reached the bridge. You didn’t even need to look to hear the approaching footsteps behind you. Distantly, you heard Jaylah exclaim, victoriously, as you were surrounded. One of the Romulans grabbed you around the throat, but you twisted his arm back, clawing his fingers from your throat. His friend grabbed you from behind and you thrust your foot back, settling the StarFleet-issued boot directly into his side, right where his heart ought to be. He choked, staggering backwards, and you took the opportunity to backflip away from your original captor and leap through the gap created by the wheeling, gasping Romulan. You disabled the control pad quickly, and ducked inside, the hydraulic door slamming just behind your broken-armed pursuer. You grimaced as you felt the green blood splatter across your face and hair when you shot him point-blank, then quickly locked the door behind you. Not that it would last long against a dozen angry Romulans.
The Captain stared at you from his chair, unarmed, as you shot down the two security officers approaching you, and turned your phaser on him. “Turn around,” you commanded, coldly. They barely saw you move when you shot down the comms officer who tried to pin you from behind. “Now.” “And why would I listen to the command of a half-blood traitor?” the Captain demanded, defiantly. You smiled, knowing they would recognise the bared teeth and cold eyes for the threat they were. “I wouldn’t expect you to.” You didn’t even flinch when you shot him, and took his place in the chair, his body at your feet. “After all, I am going to blow the ship to oblivion anyway.” It was only the helmsmen left. “If you leave now, you could make it to the shuttles.” They stared at you, then the first one stood, stalking towards you. You raised your phaser again. “I’d prefer not to waste fire.” You paused, thoughtfully. “Then again, I would’ve preferred not to use it in the first place. I suppose that is the key to my treachery.” She snarled, launching herself forward, and crumpled at your feet. You looked to the final man. “Redirect the ship, or stand aside, and I will allow you to go free. No sabotage, no double cross. I won’t even tell the others you let me, I’ll just disappear.” Eventually, he nodded and stepped away from the console. You stepped up to it, holstering your phaser but remaining on alert. As you reached to change the course, he launched himself forward and grabbed at you, smacking into the console when you twisted out of the way. You pinched his neck and he slid to the floor beside his comrades. “Jaylah.” You opened your comm, waiting for the young engineer to answer through the blips. “(Y/N). We’re back aboard the Enterprise. Where are you?” she asked, immediately. “How long until self-destruct?” You set the course, and began programming in the self-destruct. “Programming it now,” you answered, easily. “60 seconds from...” you pressed complete, and the internal lights dimmed, revealing lit directions to the shuttle bay. “...now.” As soon as you stepped away from the console, you were stepping off the transporter pad and inspecting Jaylah for injuries. “I’m fine,” she hissed, batting your hands away. “Aye, lass, did you really think I’d let her or you alone if she wasn’t?” Scotty challenged, raising an eyebrow. “Now get yerself along tae medbay for that burn.”
“I really hate family reunions,” you sighed, nursing the phaser burn on your ribs. Jaylah chuckled beside you, leading you to the medbay. “When I was a kid, I thought it was just my mother being a bit of a dick, but she’s 1000x times better than the rest of them.” I think,” Jaylah offered, stopping short before the medbay doors opened and disgorged the wrath of McCoy, “The ship is more family than blood. Different lives say different things but all of my father and what he wanted for me is on this ship.” You leaned over and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. “I’m sorry, complaining about my family when you lost yours.” “No, I found them.” The medbay doors swished open. “What are you two doing, standing out here being soppy with a phaser wound in your side?” McCoy demanded, ushering you into the medbay. “Recipe for infection!” “Hey we were having a moment!” you protested as he dragged you to a biobed, shooing Jaylah out. “I love you sweetie don’t listen to the McCoy we’re not soppy.” “That was soppy,” Bones bit back, jabbing you with a hypo as Christine began applying an anaesthetic cream around your wound. “We all know you’re secretly the soppiest, Bones,” you smirked back, trying not to wince. “A real Southern teddy bear.” He glared at you, muttering something under his breath. “See, you even have that cute growling pout.” “Oh leave off.”

Leonard McCoy x reader
Summary: After a rough delivery, you are stuck in bed and Leonard is just glad you’re ok. Jim is relieved that his sister is going to live and now he has an adorable niece to pamper. Joanna is spending the weekend and Jocelyn has a lot to say about the lack of money that Len is supposed to pay her. When she finds out that Leonard is not only married but has a new child; what will she do?
Word Count: 1038
Tumblr media
You looked in the mirror; oh, how the mighty had fallen. You were the chief security officer of the Enterprise; you were a lethal badass. Now you were twice your normal size and back pain had you sidelined. You could hear Leonard moving about the bedroom unpacking. Your year-long mission had come to an end and you were finally home for a bit. Jim had promised no missions until you were able to join.
You went to turn on the shower and it was then that you knew something was very wrong. Your water broke but it was too soon. You yelled for Leonard as you collapsed. He carried you to the bed and went to gather your things for the hospital but there wasn’t enough time. You told him to get his emergency bag that you had insisted he had for this very situation. He was going to have to deliver the baby right there at home.
She was a month and a week early and you were in a full panic. The delivery was a hard one, but it wasn’t long before Kinsley Grace was born. You wouldn’t have made it to the hospital if you had tried. You had lost a lot of blood during the delivery and it was touch in go for the two of you for a while. Jim called in a favor and had medical supplies brought to you and Leonard’s house. After a blood transfusion, you started to perk up and after some much-needed rest, you were finally out of the woods.
Kinsley had to spend a little time in an incubator and she was still pretty small. Her lungs worked fine and in spite of being small, she ended up being perfectly healthy. You were on bed rest for a few weeks due to the delivery. Leonard never left your side and Jim had practically moved in. He had almost lost his sister and niece, so he was pretty shook-up.
A week after Kinsley was born, there was a knock at the door that Jim was more than happy to answer for you. At the door was a happy looking Joanna and a very pissed of Jocelyn. Jim led them to the living room. He slipped away to get Leonard. You could hear what was going on from the bedroom. Jocelyn was yelling about money. Joanna was crying, and Jim was trying to comfort the child.
Jocelyn had demanded that Leonard pay her until he got remarried. She had thought for sure that he was going to be paying forever. He hadn’t bothered telling her when you two got married a year and a half ago. Now here she was demanded he pay her on the spot. He refused. He didn’t owe her shit anymore. You yelled for Jim. He was grateful for the escape. You asked him to get Leonard for you. And to have him bring Jocelyn with him.
Leonard didn’t know what you had planned but both him and Jim both insisted that she keep her voice down. When they walked in, you were holding Kinsley. Leonard came over to sit with you and Jocelyn, Jim, and Joanna all came in to get a closer look.
“Jocelyn, we haven’t met, but I am Danielle McCoy and this little bean is Kinsley Grace. Leonard hasn’t paid because we have been married for a year and a half now.” You were calm, and you didn’t make a whole lot of eye contact with her. You weren’t challenging her. For the first time in all the years Len had known Jocelyn, she was silent. She wasn’t mad, she was surprised.
“She’s so small.” That was all she managed to say.
“She is five weeks premature. I’m the chief security officer and we think the stress caused her to be born early. She’s otherwise healthy thankfully. Would you like to hold her?” Leonard, Jim, and Jocelyn were all surprised at your offer, but Jim went and grabbed a chair for Jocelyn to sit in. Leonard carefully handed his newborn daughter over to the ex-wife that had systematically ruined his life and the only thing on his mind was ‘what in the hell you were planning’.
“She’s so precious. I didn’t know you had gotten remarried, Leonard. But I am happy for you.” Leonard’s breath caught in his throat. In that one little sentence, she had set him free.
“Joanna? Would you like to hold your sister?” Joey was so excited. Leonard took the baby from Jocelyn while Joanna climbed up on the bed. He showed her how to properly hold her and to support her head. Joanna was a natural.
“I had actually come to see if you could watch Joanna for a few days, but I see now that you have your hands full.” Jocelyn being kind was a hard concept for Jim and Leonard to wrap their heads around.
“Oh, she wouldn’t be a bother. She’s more than welcome.” You insisted. You knew how much Leonard missed his little girl and this was an opportunity for his to have all of his girls under one roof.
Jocelyn agreed and after about an hour-long visit, she left. Joanna was in love with her new sister. Jim left after a little while to give you all some time. Leonard couldn’t recall ever being this happy in his entire life. He still wasn’t sure what had happened with Jocelyn, but he would be sure to ask you later.
Joey crashed pretty early from the exciting day. It was times like this that you were glad that you had two guest rooms. Jim slipped in and gave a little wave on his way to his room. Leonard put Kinsley to bed and curled up next to you.
“How’d you do it?” he whispered into your neck.
“I didn’t do anything, Kinsley did. Jocelyn is a mother and I let her instincts do all the work. It helped that Kinsley is so small and fragile. Besides, she can’t argue with the conditions she set.”
“I absolutely love you.” He said as he kissed your forehead
“I love you too, Len.” You said as you placed a gentle kiss on his lips.

You Know What They Say About Assuming: Chapter 1 (REWRITE)
Tumblr media
Who?: Leonard "Bones" McCoy x Reader
What?: Y’know, Doctor, it’s a good thing I like watching your lips move; otherwise, I might never hear anything you say.”
“Lieutenant, that is highly illogical, as you have no history of hearing problems.”
“Ignore her, Spock.”
“Oh, it’s not a hearing problem, Commander. It’s a concentration problem. I find the good doctor’s looks are completely unfair and entirely too perfect to ignore.”
“Lieutenant, might I remind you that you are not there to flirt.”
“My apologies, Captain.” Bones’ eyes flashed with anger, and his jaw clenched to avoid throwing his tricorder. Boy, you had really done it this time.

================================================
Three tension-filled hours later, you finally found yourself being beamed back onto the Enterprise. Leonard wouldn’t even look at you as you moved into position to wait for Scotty. Just one glance at his clenched jaw and the damn near snarl on his face had you decide to make your exit as quickly as possible as soon as you got back. However, the doctor seemed to have other plans.
“Lieutenant, report to my office.” Doctor McCoy’s voice rang out before you could even step off the pad. You turned to face him, intending to protest, but the anger practically radiating from him gave no room for argument. You sighed heavily before replying.
“Yes, doctor.” You gestured for him to lead the way, nearly missing the way his eyes flashed at your response. “After you, sir.” You said. He shook his head and scoffed.
“Oh no, I’ll meet you there. I’m going to go get the captain.” He pointed towards the door, and you could feel the blood draining from your face. Shit.
A nurse was sitting at the desk across from Doctor McCoy’s office as you approached. A warm smile graced her features as she looked up and saw you. “Lieutenant (Y/L/N)! What can we do for you today?” She asked as she grabbed a data padd. You felt your cheeks heat up slightly as you waved her off.
“Doctor McCoy asked me to meet him in his office. I suspect he’s finally gotten tired of my antics.” You gave a nervous laugh. To your surprise, the nurse smiled sympathetically and gave you a pat on the shoulder.
“Ahh, I see. Don’t worry too much. The doctor is quite the grump, but usually the captain can talk him down from any serious actions.” She said. You gave her a small smile and nodded. “You can go ahead in and wait,” She leaned in close and spoke lowly. “You might even have time to steal a glass of the bourbon he keeps in his desk.” She winked as she finished. You managed a half-hearted laugh before stepping through the door to the small office. Your body seemed to deflate as the door slid shut behind you, leaving you with some time to gather your thoughts. You could practically hear your family now, your sister getting engaged the same day you get kicked back to the academy for inappropriate conduct with a superior officer. Your face began to heat up as you kicked yourself mentally. They always said your mouth was going to get you into trouble.
“Bones why are you dragging me into this?” You could hear the captain’s voice coming through the door, and you quickly swiped at a stray tear and took a deep breath to prepare yourself. “Just because you’re too closed minded to give her a chance-”
“Enough, Jim!” The door to the office slid open, revealing a fuming Leonard McCoy and an altogether too amused Jim Kirk.
“Captain.” You said, instinctively moving to attention. Jim crack a smile and waved you off.
“At ease, Lieutenant. You’re not being sent home today.” He said. Relief flowed through you, but before you could relax, Doctor McCoy dropped the PADD he was carrying on his desk.
“Jim-” He began in a warning tone. Kirk rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
“Bones I am not sending a valuable crew member back to the academy just because you can’t handle a little flirting.” Jim said. For a moment, you thought the doctor was going to explode, but he seemed to catch himself and just sighed in resignation instead.
“Fine. But hear me very clearly, cause I ain’t repeating this again. I know you two are young and that what you’re doing is more and more common, but I’m just an old country doctor. I don’t- it’s not my thing. So kindly just leave me out of your relationship.” He said and continued on before you had time to be confused. “Lieutenant I will be writing you a warning, be glad it’s not an actual reprimand-” You started to cry out in outrage, but Jim just placed a hand on your shoulder and stepped in front of you.
“Hold on just a minute Bones. What the hell are you talking about, our relationship?” Leonard rolled his eyes and scowled deeper.
“Jim everyone on this ship knows you two are together.” Both you and Jim looked at him like he’d lost his mind. Leonard growled in frustration; a sound you had to fight to pretend didn’t affect you. “I can’t believe I have to explain to y’all how not subtle y’all are. You,” He pointed towards Jim as he spoke. “Never stop talkin about her. (Y/n) this and (y/n) that and don’t she look nice today. It’s non stop. And you,” Leonard turned his attention to you. “Frettin over him like a damn hen, I thought you were gonna lose when he came back from whatever that hell hole was with that arrow in his back. Now I may be just a doctor but I ain’t blind. If you’re trying to keep it secret that you’re sleepin together y’all are failing miserably.” He finished and crossed his arms. Kirk blinked, too stunned for words, it seemed before turning to you with an incredulous expression.
“Well this is just plain awkward considering our good friend here pulled me from a vidcall with my brother to have this meeting.” He said.
“What does that have do with anythin’?” Leonard cut in, but Jim just held up a finger.
“What’d she say?!” You asked, bringing your hands to your face and intertwining your fingers as you grinned.
“Yes, of course. Ariella (Y/L/N) will soon be Ariella Kirk.” The realization dawned on Leonard’s face as you squealed and jumped excitedly. Jim laughed at your antics before turning back to McCoy. “Bones?” The man in question was over in the corner of his office pouring himself a drink, and he grunted in response. “I trust I’m no longer needed for any disciplinary reasons?” Jim could barely keep a straight face, and you began to feel bad for the poor doctor. Leonard just grunted again and nodded once before downing the bourbon in his glass. “Well then in that case, I’ll leave you two alone. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” He winked at you, and you turned to shove him out the door playfully.
“Don’t be mean, Kirk.” You said as the door shut. You took a deep breath before turning back to address the elephant in the room. Leonard was still facing away from you as you approached his desk. “So Doctor McCoy-“
“Leonard.”
“What?”
“Just- Leonard. If you call me doctor one more time I’m liable to lose my mind.” You blinked in confusion but decided to let it slide for the moment.
“Alright. Leonard.” You hesitated for a moment, wondering if you were gonna push things too far but finally just decided to take the leap. “Would you join me for dinner?” Leonard spun on a dime, his eyebrows raised in incredulity.
“I haven’t even apologized for being an idiot and you’re still askin me to dinner?” He said almost like you’d just asked him to give you his children. You blinked and raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“Okay first and foremost, you’re not an idiot. Might be a bit of a dork, but not unintelligent. Secondly, has my nonstop flirting somehow not made it abundantly clear that I like you? Why wouldn’t I ask you out?” Leonard just stared at you for a moment.
“You’re really serious? Ain’t a joke?” You rolled your eyes and nodded.
“Yes Leonard McCoy I want to have dinner with you. As a date. Right now.” You said. For what felt like an eternity, Leonard just stood there staring at you. You began to second guess yourself and cleared your throat. “You don’t have to if you don’t want to of course-” That seemed to snap him out of his thoughts, and he cut you off.
“Sweetheart I’d have to be out of my mind to not want to have dinner with someone as gorgeous as you.” He drawled. You could feel a blush form, and though you tried to hide it, the slight smirk on his lips showed he’d noticed it too.
“Is that a yes then?” You asked. Leonard looked at the Chron before stepping around the desk and gesturing for you to lead the way.
“After you, (Y/n).”

‘Meet My Sister’
Tumblr media
Words: 986
Pairing: Pavel Chekov x Reader
A/N: Hope you enjoy!!
Request:  Oh I may have a Pavel Chekov request... reader is Pavels sibling and visits Pav on board of the Enterprise. He is VERY exited when he shows reader around the ship and "presents" them to his crewmates. He is very proud bc reader was the one who discovered time traveling which is now used in Starfleet (or will be used soon, whatever makes more sense). Does this even make sense?🤔 I hope so.. something cute with Pavel as the big teddy bear brother he is... I hope it's possible 🌹 - @hunters-rose
______________________
“Y/N!” you heard your brother call as you materialised onboard the Enterprise.
“Pavel!” you called back and the two of you were crashing into each other's arms. You’d been separated for a long time.
“I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too.” you replied, pulling away and giving him a smile.
Someone clearing their throat caught your attention and you smiled at the man.
“Oh.” Pavel realised “This is Mr Scott, head of engineering.”
You shook the man’s hand and he greeted you warmly. “Hi I’m Y/N. Pavels sister.”
“Y/N’s been heading the research into time travel.” Pavel blurted out and you felt your face get warm.
“I’d love to learn more. I’ve been following the progress.” Scotty admitted “However I need to get back to Engineering before Keenser blows something apart.”
You smiled “I’ll be sticking around for a while. I’m sure we can discuss it at some point.”
“I’ll catch you later.”
You watched the man leave before speaking again “So when can I see my room?”
“I need to introduce you to others first!” before you could react his hand was around your wrist and he was dragging you through the corridors on the Enterprise.
“Slow down.” you cautioned him.
“Doctor McCoy! Doctor McCoy!” he called down the corridor. The man in questioned turned around with a slight scowl on his face.
“What is it now?”
“Don’t be so grumpy Doctor.” Pavel tried to calm him “I would like you to meet my sister Y/N. She is heading the research and development of time travel technology within Starfleet.”
“Don’t you ever think that it’s going a bit too far?” the man questioned you with a raised eyebrow.
“Nothing is too far” you laughed “it will allow certain personnel to go back and review history and collect information as needed. Of course it needs to be left to the people most trustworthy.”
“Don’t you think the collection of information could be detrimental in some cases? Have we not documented things thoroughly enough?”
“As of the past few decades and possibly centuries we have. However we’ve seen certain illnesses or diseases return from seemingly nowhere especially on new planets. Take this for example, we could travel back to the british middle ages and take samples of the plague and study them properly in the future. Then if we come across something similar we have a base line and possible more effective cures. This isn’t a great need for planets like Earth but new planets we come across.” you paused briefly “Similar to how we meet planets that still have the common cold. We give them our cures and vaccinations to help out. Just because these thing don’t affect us anymore doesn’t mean it doesn’t affect others.”
“You’re a red shirt speaking like a blue shirt… are you sure you’re in the right colour?” The man joked.
“Well my original education was in medicine but I excelled at physics and engineering. You know Pavel graduated early and … well I also fast tracked through.”
“Of course you did.” he rolled his eyes “Well it was lovely to meet you but I have patients to see too. I’ll see you both around.” the man spoke quickly before fleeing down the corridor.
Pavel stood next to you beaming. “What?” you questioned the man with a smile.
“The Doctor likes you.”
“He practically just ran away.”
“He told a joke. He likes you.” the man grabbed your wrist again “Let's go meet the Captain.”
“Woah. Not yet.”
“Why not.” the man continued to drag you through the corridors.
“He might be busy.”
“He’s not busy or doing anything important. If he was the Doctor would be on the Bridge.”
“What?” you asked, puzzled by the mans words.
“Doctor McCoy is always on the bridge when the Captain is in fear he may do something stupid. Since the Doctor is not on the Bridge the Captain is probably free and not dealing with important matters. He’s probably bickering with Spock somewhere.”
You laughed “I’ve heard a lot about everyone but this makes the ship sound crazier.”
“That’s because it is” he admitted. “Captain Kirk! Captain!”
You sighed and looked up to see the Captain walking towards you. You knew the man’s face, there was no way you couldn’t know it.
“This is my sister-”
“Y/N” Jim held out his hand to you.
“Yeah” Pavel said puzzled “How did you know?”
“I stay up to date with her research. Who do you think okayed her coming on board?”
“That did not cross my mind. I was just excited for her to meet everyone.”
“Hi” you spoke “It’s nice to finally meet you.”
“You two know each other?” he looked between the two of you.
“We’ve had some meetings together to discuss bringing my research and development onto the Enterprise.” you looked at your brother and raised an eyebrow “Did you think I was here for a vacation?”
His mouth was slightly agape “Yes I did. But if you’re staying longer that’s even better.” the man began to beam with a smile once again.
“I was going to tell you when I got here but you decided to take me on a wild ride around the ship.” you laughed.
“He’s just doing what big brother’s do best.” the Captain laughed. “Anyway it was nice to meet you and a bunch of us are grabbing drinks later you should join.”
You agreed and the Captain re-admitted himself to the bridge.
“Do you have any vacation time?” Pavel questioned “I took a couple of days off to spend with you.” his eyes looked slightly sad about not being able to spend whole days together.
“I do. I don’t officially start work on the Enterprise for four days.”
“Excellent because there’s more people I want you to meet.” you smiled and rolled your eyes. Allowing your brother to lead the way.

The Cave
Long time no see! Sorry it’s been a while. I’ve been in grad school and it’s pretty much sucked the life out of me. But I really missed writing so I figured I could write for my favorite character. Thank you so much for reading! Pairings: Leonard McCoy x Kirk!Reader
*Part two is here
Words: 4.8K
Warnings: injury, fluff, angst (?), swearing, badly written fight scene, Leonard and Reader being stubborn shits, Spock being a cocky shit

“Captain.” Spock greeted as he caught up to his friend. Jim clapped him on the shoulder. “I must commend you and Commander Kirk on your success in Nuvaruta. Not many would have been able to complete that mission.”
“Eh, nothing we couldn’t handle. I’m just surprised she didn’t drop the artifact when she got hit!” Jim laughed.
“Well, it was only a flesh wound. A woman of her position is surely used to it by now. No need to worry about her.” An ensign brushed by Jim, yelping out an apology.
“She’s still my sister, Spock. Head of security or not, I always worry about her.”
“And captain or not, she will always worry about you.”
“Well-” They both got quiet when they reached medbay, hearing yelling and seeing Nurse Chapel waiting outside the door, acting like nothing was happening and playing with her nails.
“Nurse Chapel, is everything alright?” Spock asked and she looked up at the science officer.
“Oh, just the same thing every time Commander Kirk comes back from a mission.” Jim sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“How many times are you gonna be in my damn medbay! I swear you get hurt more in a day than an ensign does in a whole year!” Leonard bit and you rolled your eyes.
“How many times are you gonna complain every time you see me? I said thank you!” You replied. “You act like I’m ungrateful!”
“No you’re just stubborn as a bull!”
“Pot calling kettle black!” You laughed incredulously. “It’s in my job description to get hurt, it’s in yours to patch me up! But you can’t do that without henpecking at me every damn time!”
Jim, Spock, and Christine all waited outside. By this point in the mission, they all knew that it was better to just wait it out than to break it up.
“Henpecking?”
“Yes! I swear you like it when I come in because it gives you something to gripe about!”
“No because you coming in pushes me that much closer to an ulcer! Just get outta my medbay, I got work to do!”
“Gladly!” You walked out of medbay, looking to see the three waiting outside. “Hey.”
“Alright, c’mon. I need your report.” You and Jim walked away, leaving Christine and Spock near medbay. They walked in to see Leonard sitting at his desk with his forehead in his hand.
“Doctor, are you alright?’ Christine asked and he sighed.
“Yes, Nurse Chapel. I’m fine.” He replied. “Whaddya need, Spock?”
“I came here with no intention to talk to you, but now it seems I have. I would like to talk to you about Commander Kirk. Why is it that you two argue so much?” The vein in Leonard’s forehead seemed like it was about to pop as he turned to face the Vulcan.
“Because she’s stubborn and reckless, that’s why!”
“As are you.” Christine looked at Spock with her eyebrows raised and stepped back a bit when Leonard stood up.
“I am not!”
“You are, which is why I am confused. Of course, you are not as reckless as Commander Kirk but you are as much if not more stubborn. You both share a drier sense of humor, both care a great deal about those you work with-”
“What’s your point, Spock?”
“I believe you become irritated when she’s hurt because you care for her. The more she gets hurt, the more irritable you become. There’s a remarkable amount of tension between you two.” Spock clasped his hands behind his back as Leonard walked up to him. “You are simply worried about her and are too stubborn to admit your feelings for her. Meaning it comes out in irritation and rage, making her angry and irritable.”
“I don’t like her.”
“I think Commander Spock has a point...Doctor.” Christine interjected. “I think you’re also frustrated because you feel like you can’t like her. She is the Captain’s sister after all.”
“Good point, Nurse Chapel.” Spock commended. “It seems that she might be forbidden to our doctor.”
“A forbidden fruit, if you will.” Christine offered and Spock raised an eyebrow at her. Leonard rubbed his temples and she tried to hide her smile from him.
“Spock, aren’t you needed on the bridge?”
“Oh no, not for some time.”
XXXXXX
Crew-
We are headed down to the planet of Thurilia. It is a barren planet that has not been inhabited in over 100 years but it carries another artifact integral to the Nimbus mission. Don’t mistake it’s barrenness for peace, there are hostile Romulans also looking for the artifact. We must also be wary of dust storms and flying debris from crash landed ships. For this mission I will require Commander Kirk, Commander Spock, and Doctor McCoy.
“Got everything you need, lass?” You finished attaching your phaser, communicator, and collapsible kali. You missed your regular uniform, all of you required to wear a more suitable and impenetrable to the suffocating dust. It was too bulky for your liking but you knew it was more practical.
“Ready, Scotty. Just make sure to remember to beam us up.” You clapped his shoulder and jogged over to the teleporter. Of course, the only spot was next to Leonard. “Dr. McCoy.”
“Commander.” You noticed Spock looking over at the two of you and you furrowed your brows at him.
“Ready, Scotty.” Jim stated. You would never get used to the tingling of the teleporter. It would always be a strange sensation no matter how many times you used it. You all landed on the planet and you wondered if it made Spock feel the least bit homesick. It was a desert, but the sand was purple and the sky always dark.
“Alright, everyone make sure your masks work. We’ll only have a little bit of warning before a storm kicks in. Lieutenant Uhura will be watching that for us. It gives off a a chemical signature but that’ll be hard to pinpoint with the dust and the crash sites. If you spot any romulans, call for backup and don’t fight them alone.”
“Should we go off in pairs, Captain?”
“I think we should. Might attract less attention and we might find it faster.”
“I shall go with you then, Captain.” You and Leonard’s heads snapped up from your tricorders.
“Of course, Mr. Spock.”
“Jim are you sure splitting up is the best idea?” You replied and Jim patted you on the shoulder.
“Of course. I want you two to go northeast towards the strongest signature. Spock and I will go southwest towards the strongest signature.” The two walked away, leaving you and Leonard standing dumbfounded.
“That green blooded hobgoblin.” Leonard muttered under his breath as you started following the signature.
“You comin’ or not?” You called over your shoulder. He jogged up to catch up with you and pulled out his own tricorder. You were both silent, the only sounds coming from the wind and the robes you were wearing flapping.
“How’s your shoulder?” He asked and you looked over at him quickly.
“It’s much better now, thank you.” He nodded. However, he wasn’t looking where he was stepping and felt his foot sinking down quickly. “Leonard!” The sand felt like it was grappling him, staining his robes a deep purple against the brown. You grabbed his arms and started to pull him out, your feet lacking traction and eventually you resorted to digging your knees in and pulling him along as he kicked. The grip loosened and he fell on top of you, pushing you into the sand. He quickly rolled off of you and panted like a wild dog.
“Are you alright?”
“I’m fine, this is why I hate space.” He replied and you chuckled.
“Welp, gives you one more thing to complain about.” You stood up, dusting off your robes and offered your hand to him. “Watch where you’re stepping.”
“Yeah, yeah, got it.” He took it and you helped him up. “This place is a death trap.”
“I dunno, I kinda like it.” You responded. “If you look closely, the sand sparkles a bit.”
“I just got a close look, or have you already forgotten?” You rolled your eyes and kept following the signature.
“You could’ve gotten a closer look had I not been here.” The two of you were silent save for the wind and the beeping of your tricorders. It was so peaceful yet destructive at the same time. No one could possibly live there, it had claimed the lives of so many and had become a resting ground for pieces of space travel. But the silence, the stars, it was beautiful in a way.
“Commander, Doctor, I’m picking up a storm. Might want to head for cover.” Uhura informed over your communicators.
“See any structures?” Leonard asked. You squinted down at your tricorder, the sandy wind already picking up.
“There’s a cave near us, if we hurry we can get there before it gets too bad!” You called back. As you traveled, it became increasingly difficult to move or see. You had to trust your tricorder and stick close to Leonard.
Suddenly, something whizzed by in front of the both of you.
Then another.
“Hurry!” You called back and grabbed his hand. From what you can guess, pieces of a nearby ship had begun to fly off. Each piece nearly missed you by mere feet. At least for a little bit.
“Ah!” Leonard cried and faltered a bit.
“We’re almost to the cave! I can see it!” You pushed him into the cave and looked to your left. A large piece of metal was bounding right towards you. You yelped and jumped in, right before the metal buried itself in the sand. You stared blankly as you realized it had blocked the entrance save for a small corner at the top. You turned around when you heard Leonard hiss in pain and saw blood soaking his robes. A piece of shrapnel had impaled itself into his side. “Leonard! Are you okay?”
“I’ll be fine!” He snapped and you sighed, pulling back the robes and mask from your face.
“You lay down, I’m going to get some light in here.” You pulled out your phaser and luckily found a pile of rocks. You shot at them, making them burn a bright red and give off some light. “Where’s your med kit?”
“What?”
“We gotta fix that up. Just tell me what to do and I’ll do it. Where’s your medkit?” you unwrapped part of your robes and made a makeshift pillow for him as he pulled out his kit.
“You sure about this?”
“You got a better idea?” He laid down and rested his head. You cut away at the fabric on the robes and he jumped when it pulled at the piece of shrapnel.
“Be careful!”
“I’m trying to be, you mule!” You snapped back and he stared at you.
“Did you just call me a mule?”
“A mule that’s gonna tell me how to stitch it up.” He sighed and prepared himself.
“Alright, hit me with the hypospray on the furthest right. That’ll numb it.” You did it quickly. “Now turn whatever’s in there.”
“What?” You yelped. “Turn it.” You did as he asked, wincing as it spun through the flesh slightly. He could still feel a little bit it wasn’t that painful. “Okay it turned, it’s just in my flesh, not a rib. Now pull it out.” “But that’ll make you bleed more.”
“Just do it.” You prepared yourself and quickly yanked it out. He jumped again and winced. “Third hypospray from the right!” You quickly injected it and the bleeding immediately slowed. “Take the device on the top left and do a criss-cross on it.” You did it, watching as the material tightened up and closed the wound. “Now clean it and let’s hope we’re found before it’s infected.”
“You don’t have a hypospray for that?” He just looked at you, making you roll your eyes. “Are you alright?”
“I will be.” You pulled out your communicator.
“Kirk to Kirk.”
“Kirk here.”
“Doctor McCoy and I are trapped in a cave by a piece of a ship. I’ll send you our location so that you two can come get us when the storm’s over.” “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Doctor McCoy got hit by a piece of shrapnel.”
“I’ll be fine, Jim.” Leonard called out.
“You two hang tight, we’ll be there as soon as we can.” You took off the rest of your robes, leaving you in a black top and pants.
“Are you cold?”
“No, I’m fine.” Leonard replied.
“How many of those numbing hyposprays do you have?”
“One more. I’ll let you know if it gets too bad.” He replied and you nodded. You were both silent as you took inventory of what you had in the cave. You had some emergency stuff but if the storm lasted a while there might be trouble.
“Thanks.”
“Huh?” You spun your head around and saw Leonard looking at you.
“Thank you, for fixing me up. You did a pretty good job.”
“You’re welcome. I think that’s the first genuine compliment you’ve ever given me.” You smirked and he chuckled.
“I guess I’ve been a little rough on you.” You sniffed in laughed and sat down next to him, getting close to him and the rock for warmth.
“A little?”
“Alright, alright, I get it.” He replied. “I guess I can be a little to hard on you.” You hummed in response. “Y’know you’re not that much of a peach yourself.”
“A georgia peach?” You replied and he rolled his eyes. “Look, I know I’m not the easiest person to work with but you’re not either. And we’re stuck in this cave together until they come and get us. So all we have to do is not kill each other until Jim and Spock come or something comes to kill us.”
“Comforting.” He replied.
“I try.”
XXXXXX
You were busy going through your logs on your PADD, sneaking your eyes over to Leonard every now and then to make sure he was alright. To make the time pass by a little faster, you played music lowly. Of course you two had to argue about what kind of music for a little bit before you just put on some Tchaikovsky. You had some spattered communication with Jim and Spock but the dust storms had picked up too much to the point they had to hole up somewhere too. Last you checked, they were still okay and the doctor had taken his last hypospray.
“So, why did you join up?” You were broken out of your thoughts to see Leonard messing around with a small rock in his hands.
“Someone’s gotta keep an eye on Jim, might as well be me.”
“That’s it?”
“I don’t really have a more noble or complicated reason. I didn’t really have any other place I wanted to go. Plus I didn’t want to stay in one place too long, I get too antsy. My parents did it, George joined up, Jim joined up, then I did. I get to strategize, protect, travel, and be with Jim at the same time.”
“So it was just the right thing to do?”
“In a sense. I mean, it’s always been me and Jim. I couldn’t imagine not being able to see him for five years. Jim always kept me out of trouble, I kept him from flying too close to the sun.”
“So you’ve always been a pain in the ass?” You genuinely laughed at that.
“Yeah, I’ve always been a little shit. But I’ve put that energy towards keeping people safe and annoying you. Now I’ve told my story, spill.” He sighed and adjusted himself a little against the ground.
“Eh, not much to tell. Wife left, I was a doctor that needed to get away, and found myself at star fleet.”
“I’ll never Jim calling me that day and telling me about you. He said you were some hypochondriac that nearly threw up on him in the plane.”
“And Jim told me you were his hot headed sister who couldn’t keep your trap shut.”
“And look where we are now: trapped in the same cave.” You mused. “Wanna play 20 questions?”
“What?” “I don’t know how long we’re gonna be here, might as well pass the time. I’ll go first if you want.” He sighed and nodded his head in agreement. “Alright, what do you miss most about Georgia?” You leaned against the cave wall on the other side of him, crossing your arms across your chest.
“I know I’ll sound like an old southern gentleman but sitting on a front porch in a rocking chair.” You sniffed in laughter and he looked over at you with an annoyed look.
“Hey, I’m not judging. It does make you sound like an old man. Ask me a question.” He thought for a moment or two.
“What are you afraid of? There has to be something.” You groaned and covered your face. “C’mon!”
“No, you’ll laugh!”
“I won’t laugh, I promise. With what you’ve seen and done, it has to be truly scary.” He reasoned and you shook your head. “Then what is it?”
“It’s...birds. I’m afraid of birds.” There was silence between the two of you.
“Are we talking geese or-” “Doesn’t matter. I’m deathly afraid of all birds.” When he didn’t say anything else, you looked up from your palm to see his body shaking with laughter. “Hey! You said you wouldn’t laugh!”
“With everything we’ve seen!” “Alright Hercules, other than space what are you most afraid of?”
“Flying.”
“Man you chose the wrong job.”
“Come over here, I can barely hear you.” You rolled your eyes but made your way over to the wall next to him, resuming you previous position.  “What do you miss doing that you can’t do on the Enterprise?”
“I miss cooking. I love to cook and it sucks that we only have replicators. I’m a pretty good chef if I do say so. I make a mean skillet pot pie.”
“That sounds dangerous. I do miss home cooking.”
For the next fourteen questions, you found out a lot about each other. You both enjoy reading in your spare time, both think Jim and Carol should suck it up and go out already, you had the same favorite old tv show, and generally had a lot in common with each other. You told stories about your youth like when you fell of the roof of your grandfather’s barn, when you rescued a stray dog you found in some cornfield in Iowa, and how your father had raised you to become an old movie buff. He told you about med school and the time that he accidentally ate a hallucinogenic plant and was tripping for three days. It seemed like he could be just as reckless as you sometimes. He told stories of before you joined up and the adventures he and Jim were on, how many times he had pretty much saved Jim but didn’t think he did anything special. You would’ve hated to admit it before but you were enjoying getting to know him.
After Starfleet, what do you want to do?” He asked. At this point, you were laying down next to him, sharing your robes as a pillow.
“I don’t know.”
“Don’t cop out now.” He chuffed and you shook your head.
“I really don’t know, McCoy. This i pretty much all I’ve ever known. You can go to a hospital or clinic, I don’t know where else to go. I don’t want to be a civilian officer, don’t want to be a body guard to some stuffy politician.”
“You can settle down?” You snorted.
“Yeah, me, settle down.”
“You don’t want to?”
“It’s not that I don’t want to. Yeah, I want to be married and have kids one day but I just don’t think it’ll happen. I have a difficult job where I get hurt on a daily basis. Not a lot of people can handle that.”
“You’ll find somebody, Kirk. You’re a catch.” You looked over at him with a smirk. “Don’t tell anyone I told you that.” You laughed and propped yourself up on your elbows and looked at the open area at the corner of the cave.
“Last one, what’s one thing you wish you had known more about before today?”
“You.” He answered and you looked down at him. “I used to think you were the most annoying person on the ship. I was always too hard on you and didn’t even try to talk to you without Jim there to keep us calm.”
“Why did we both decide to hate each other?” You laid back down next to him. “Seems like if we weren’t on that ship we would get along well.” You were silent for a little while. “Perhaps we’re both stubborn. I didn’t like you because you didn’t like me. From the first time I got hurt-”
“You’re Jim’s sister. Jim’s my best friend. The first time you got hurt, I felt an even more overwhelming sense of duty. I had to take care of you even more so than my other patients. Not only are you his sister, you protect us with little regard to yourself. You’re only afraid of birds, not death. I know this is all jumbled but...I think I was scared to get to know you because-” You noticed how his speech was becoming slightly slurred.
“That sense of duty would be even stronger.” You were both silent again. “I’m sorry, Leonard.”
“I’m sorry too.”
“How about when we get out of here we share a drink. I’ve got some damn good whiskey I think you’d enjoy.”
“Sounds like a deal.” You shot up when you heard banging at the front of the cave and grabbed your phaser. You slowly made your way to the large piece of metal and heard some talking on the other side.
“Romulans.” You muttered and hurried back over to Leonard. You cursed when you saw that he had begun sweating again, his skin pale and clammy. “Leonard, listen to me. I have to move you behind the rocks alright?” He nodded as his head lulled to the side. You grasped underneath his arms and began to drag him, noting that the piece of metal was moving slowly in the sand. “Don’t make a sound, alright? I’ll take care of them and we’ll get back to the Enterprise.” You turned to go away and find some cover but her grabbed your hand.
“Wait, Kirk.” You looked back down at him and he squeezed your hand. “Don’t make me patch you up again.” You smiled softly.
“I’ll do my best.” You hurried to a rock on the other side of the cave and waited for the Romulans to breach. It took them a little time but they finally moved the shrapnel enough to get through. You weren’t well versed in linguistics so you couldn’t make out what they were saying. They came over to the rock serving as heat and light and muttered amongst themselves. They knew someone was there. You could hear them growing closer and heard their phasers click off, presumably not to stun. You looked over at Leonard and saw his shaky breathing, you couldn’t let them find him. As they got closer to you, you finally popped over the rock and shot one of them in the knee and the other in the shoulder, stunning them. You sighed and almost went over to Leonard before a shot rang out and grazed past you.
There was one more waiting outside the cave.
You hurried back behind your rock and thought about what to do. You could try to get some shots out but he had you cornered, he’d easily hit you first. If he got you, then he would get Leonard. He could also easily ambush Jim and Spock. You decided your best option was to wait and try to get the upper hand if he decided to move closer.
You listened for his footsteps, grating the sand underneath him. If you could disarm him then you would get your chance. He wouldn’t wait for you to surrender, you didn’t wait for them. He was calling out something to you and even with the language barrier you knew he was cursing you out. As soon as you heard him close enough, you leapt over the rock and tackled him. You rolled to the other side of the cave and you tried to smash his hand against the wall so he would drop his phaser. You felt him kick your shin, then kneeing your hip and you cried out. With one last hit, he dropped his phaser but before you could get your shot, he punched your jaw and flipped the two of you over. You tried to shoot again but the shot just went to the rocks above. He now held your wrists in a crushing grip, willing you to let go. You did the only thing you could do and kick for some sort of advantage. You went for his knees, his stomach, any place you could think.  He was starting to get irritated, he was starting to get desperate. He let go of your unarmed hand to grab the knife in his belt and your eyes went wide. You had to act fast. You grabbed the only thing you could, a rock, and hit him in the side of the head. He finally let you go and you scurried away from him, training you phaser on him. You didn’t realize how hard you had hit him and realized he wasn’t going to move any time soon as blood came from his temple.  You hurried back over to Leonard to see that his eyes were drooping.
“Leonard! Stay with me!”
“Are you hurt?”
“Just bruised, I’m fine. Hang in there, alright? We’ll figure this out!”
“Commander!” You heard a familiar voice call.
“Spock!” You cried out. “Hurry, we need to get Dr. McCoy out of here.”
“On our way!” Jim yelled back. You looked back over at Leonard and held his hand.
“C’mon Leonard, we’re almost there.”

The events on Thurilia changed a lot of things. It was noticed immediately that you and Leonard weren’t bickering as much. Nurse Chapel noticed that the vein in his head wasn’t ready to pop at a moments notice anymore. It didn’t seem as explosive. Of course, there was still an argument after he quickly recovered about her almost getting stabbed but it wasn’t nearly as tense as the others.
However, that wasn’t the only thing that got the crew talking.
Leonard was no longer in his uniform. Instead, he was in his civilian clothes that he usually wore once the day was done: a pair of sweats and an old t-shirt from his college days. He walked down the halls of the enterprise late in the night to get to your door, two glasses in his hands. He knocked and the door soon slid open to reveal you in your civilian clothes with a smile: a fleet sweatshirt and a pair of shorts. It was a little shocking for you to see each other out of uniform but it was oddly comforting. It had shown that the time in the cave had done a lot of good. You two visiting each other for a nightcap had become a regular occurrence.
“What movie did you pick?” He asked as he walked in.
“Princess Bride. It’s a movie from the 1980s.” His eyes widened, still shocked about your movie collection. “It’s got fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, escapes, true love, miracles!”
“Sounds surprisingly sappy for you.” He chuckled as he poured the drinks. You sat down on your bed with the remote in hand and rolled your eyes.
“Did you not hear the first part of that?  What with all the violence?” He offered you a glass and you gladly took it.
“Yeah, yeah I heard you. It sounds great.” He sat down next to you against the headboard and you started the movie. It was a little off-putting how grainy it was but you insisted it added to the charm of the film. The movie continued and Leonard looked down to see the stars in your eyes as you watched. You were absolutely mesmerized by the story and kept telling him facts about the film. He noticed the tightness in his chest and coughed a little, hoping it was just the burn of the whiskey.
But it didn’t go away.

Spock and Uhura watched with wide eyes as they rounded the corner to see Leonard smiling with two glasses in his hand as he walked into your room.
“Spock, tell me I’m not hallucinating.”
“I believe, ashayam, we are witnessing what you humans call a miracle.”
