#its not a perfect show i have plenty of criticisms of it

I agree with what you said and that they for sure need a bit of time apart, but it should have been done at least in ep4 to truly give them the time to do that in order for it not to be rushed 😭
Ep6 most likely will feature at best 2 weeks in terms of time, probably even less, so I don’t see how things can change or get much better… it’s heartbreaking to say it but I’m at a point where if they were not to be endgame, I would understand it bc s3 truly didn’t give them the time to build anything, it just kept them apart a lot and made things even more difficult. Which I’m not blaming the characters for it, they have no fault in that. Not to mention my biggest fear is that they will make them go back and forth several times even in this very last episode (let’s be together, let’s be not) just for them to suddenly get back together last minute once again with barely any improvement if not Wille making the decision of resigning once he is of age.
well if im honest theres a lot abt s3 that feels rushed to me or not fully explored so ive set my expectations as such. ive always felt the 6 ep a season was too short but that is particularly felt this season as its the last, a lot has fallen to the wayside or underdeveloped. im not entirely sure wilmon will be endgame but if theyre not whats the point of the show a little bit? i dont think there is payoff or enough here for it to feel complex if wille stays crown prince and they arent together.
also there are so many scenes from the trailer that have not been seen so i already know ep 6 is going to be a whirlwind, frankly i doubt most plotlines will be fulfilled entirely 😭 i will say if they get back together and nothing changes i absolutely do no want it. the only way for them to work is 100% if wille abdicates and wille also needs to understand how blind and at times cruel he has been and simon cant keep puting himself to the side for everyones sake.

Finn Wolfhard Headcanons
Pairing: Finn Wolfhard x f!reader
Warnings: a bit of fluff + lots of smut (but mostly soft smut, cause Finn is a gentleman)
Tumblr media
Love note from Nina: I’ve just started this side blog due to the recent lack of new Finn smut content on here. Basically, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Requests are open and I’ll write for all of Finn’s characters (and Finn himself, duh), except for Richie. I hope you all like it, I can also take constructive criticism quite well (English is not my first language) :) anyways:
Fluff
- Finn Wolfhard was definitely born in the wrong era: you couldn’t believe that one of gen Z’s most prominent stars would simply love to show off some old timey chivalry.
- Whenever he’s going to drive you somewhere, he always gets out of his car, walks around it and opens the car door for you. When you reach the destination of each drive, he does the same thing, but also offers his hand to help you stand up.
- If he takes you to a restaurant, he’s also going to pull up your chair so you can sit - and, for God’s sake, you’re not even touching that bill. It’s always his treat. He just wants to make his girl happy, and you must let him, of course.
- Despite fame and all it includes, Finn is not hesitant in holding your hand or having his arm around your waist in public - as long as you’re okay with it. He loves to show you off, he’s so proud to have you as his girlfriend. Everyone around you must know that.
- Being a rising star, your schedules don’t always match perfectly, so he’s bound to spend a few weeks away every once in a while to film/direct something. That being said, one of his main love languages is gift giving: he loves to bring you little presents from all his work trips - mostly small dainty jewelry, beautifully knitted sweaters and well, basically anything that made him think of you while he was away.
Smut
- Whenever he gets back from a work trip, you already know what to expect: being showered in gifts and physical touch. He missed you a lot and you must know how much he did.
- Neck kisses are a must. Finn knows the exact spot that makes your knees buckle, and he’s not afraid to use that knowledge in his favor.
- There’s usually lots of whispering in your ear about how much he missed you, how good you smell, how smooth and perfect your skin is. Your earlobes are also getting plenty of nibbles and gentle sucking. He’s all about those pretty moans he gets out of your lips.
- When it comes to taking clothes off, Finn is always subtle and delicate. His fingers lightly trace your dress’ thin straps and pull them down slowly, giving you plenty of time to stop him if you want - but you’re always as hungry for him as he is for you.
- Each little piece of newly exposed skin gets its round of kisses and gentle touching. Finn worships your body and your soul more than anything else in the world. He wants you to know how much he appreciates you, he wants to make you feel safe in his arms at all times.
- When the time comes, Finn loves to eat your pussy. He loves the smell, the taste, the texture, everything. The way you shiver under his touch, hissing and squirming, always gets him hard in a split second. His big warm hands know their way both around and inside you: the perfect speed, pressure and angle. That boy is sure to make you cum and suck off his own fingers afterwards - you taste so good he can’t get enough.
- Finn’s a gentleman, of course, so he takes the “ladies first” thing quite seriously. If you haven’t already cum at least three times, your pussy is not soaking wet and you’re not begging him to enter you, you’re not ready for him yet. He takes his sweet time driving you crazy before claiming you.
- As he lines up with your sweet entrance, he always always always looks you in the eye and asks, his voice faint with lust “may I?” As desperate as he is to get engulfed by your delicious cunt, he still finds consent to be the hottest thing ever - and so do you.
- After he gets a verbal response (‘cause I swear that boy can be such a tease if you simply moan), he usually starts off gently, letting your body adjust to both his length and girth. His dick is so thick it still needs some patience and adjusting, even after all this time you’ve been together.
- He keeps his thrusts at a slow pace until you’re satisfied. Then, and only then, he speeds up and allows himself to release. Finn absolutely loves to spill into you, filling you up with warm ropes of his cum. You’re his and only his, and somehow, he feels as if cumming inside you is a way to show you that. To show you that he owns you.
- After you two come down from your highs, it’s all cuddles and pillow talk. Finn is mostly a big spoon, but won’t mind being a little spoon if you want him to.
- In the end, all he wants is to have you in his arms as long as possible, savoring the peace and the warmth he gets from feeling your heartbeat and your body touching his. You’re everything he’s ever wanted.

Bucky x reader
If you’ve read enough of my fics, you would have pieced together by now that I have a thing with mirrors. its a problem. I know. I will not stop. I’m sorry.
Starts off a lillllll bit angsty. then a lilllll fluffy. and then smut. This turned out more emotional than I wanted, idek, it was meant to be just smut but here we are.
Anyway, welcome to another fever dream fic
You could tell by the look on Bucky’s face that he was having one of those days. They were not as frequent as before but they happened none the less. Days where he felt unworthy, where every scar, cut and bruise on his body made him feel ashamed of who he was. Of things he had done. His eyes were trained on the scarring of where his metal arm met skin, deep gashes and scars littering the area; while you found him entirely beautiful, he couldn’t stand the sight of his mangled body.
“Bucky?”
“Hm?”
His eyes didn’t meet yours, continuing to internally criticize himself while you shook your head. His body was still damp from his shower, his towel hanging low on his hips.
“What are you looking at bubba?” You knew the answer but you asked anyway, giving him a safe space for him to talk about how he felt.
“I-I hate how many scars there are” He whispered, swallowing thickly. Talking about his body was never an easy topic. “They’ll never go away”
“They don’t have to go away Bucky” Your hand ghosted over his vibrainum arm, kissing the area where metal met flesh, your cheek resting on his chest.
“You survived so much, they had to brain wash you and wipe you over and over again because it was so hard for them to get rid of the good person you were, don’t you see that baby?” Your hand caressed his scruffy cheek, while his arms came to hold your waist, pulling you closer. “The serum never changed you. They tried to change you and failed. You were, and always have been a sweet heart. I find your scars beautiful baby. There was always good in your heart”
“M’lucky to have you babydoll” Bucky smiled softly, his forehead coming to rest down on yours. He pressed his lips against yours, savoring how warm they were, his hands slipping up your sleep shirt.
“Let me take care of you baby” You kissed his chest, taking his hand and leading him to the bed. “I’ll show you how beautiful you are”
You sat up against the headboard, pulling Bucky down to sit in your lap and lean against you; his back resting on your chest, his head near your shoulder.
“Sweet heart, I’ll crush you-
“Shh, just take your towel off Buck” Bucky felt his cheeks heat up as he cautiously slipped the towel off. You had seen him naked plenty of times but this was different and he felt exposed, his naked body on full display while you were still in your over sized t-shirt. Usually it was you in his lap, not the other way around. “Spread your legs baby, want to see all of you”
Bucky’s eyes grew wide, blinking before slowly parting his legs, giving you the perfect view of him from his legs, to his cock, his balls, his abs, his chest, his beautiful face. You hummed approvingly at how perfect he looked spread out for you, your eyes locking with his in the large mirror reflection that sat across your bed.
“Look at how perfect you are baby” You whispered, kissing his temple. “Bucky relax, its just me” You softly giggled, feeling his body tense. “My beautiful baby”
“I love your blue eyes, your perfect nose, these adorable pouty pink lips” Your finger traced down his face, tugging down his bottom lip before continuing further down. “This adorable dimple on your chin”
“I love how much you blush when someone compliments you” You smiled, giving his cheek a soft peck, making his face redden more.
“I love how strong and warm your arms are, they protect me and keep me safe, your arms feel like home” Your hands rubbed up and down his arms, your fingers tracing over every curve and divot of muscle.
“I love how safe I feel when you hold me close to you”, You ran your hands up and down his torso, ghosting over his nipples making his breaths deepen, “I also love this” Your voice was a whisper, your finger tracing around the tip of his cock, making Bucky whimper.
“I love how this makes me so fucking wet, makes me scream” You continued to tease him, your hands gently ghosting up and down his shaft, while Bucky squirmed in your lap, his breaths getting heavier.
“Y/n, baby please...”
“Please what bubba?”
“Touch me”
“I love how good you make me feel baby”  You giggled, gently nipping his ear lobe, making him moan. “Your cock is perfect, so perfect soldier” Your hand grasped is cock, holding it still, giving in a gentle squeeze, your pussy dripping watching the way Bucky bit his bottom lip.
“Nothing else satisfies me like you do baby, fuck your cock feels so good” You started off with slow gentle strokes, your hand gripping him from the base of his cock, pulling up to the tip, twisting your wrist slightly each time.
“You know how well you stretch me baby? How thick your cock is, filling me perfectly every time?” You could feel his precum on your fingers, using it as lube to stroke him faster. “Nothing comes close to how perfect this cock is baby, none of my toys are good enough, I need this”
Your thumb played with the slit of his cock making him moan, his hips bucking into your hand.
“Angel, more, please, stroke me faster” His hands were itching to wrap around on top of yours, his balls were throbbing. “pleasepleaseplease”
You hummed, kissing his neck, stroking him only slightly harder, loving the way his hips rocked and squirmed, thrusting in your hand.
“I love how your cock tastes baby, love your cum in my mouth, warm on my tongue”
Bucky groaned, small spurts of precum dribbling down his shaft, his cock soaked in his own arousal. He squeezed his eyes shut to keep himself from cumming, wanting more of your gentle soothing words, his heart beating out of his chest, his cock throbbing. You cooed at the way he lost himself to you, his hands gripping the sheets, focused on your ministrations.
“Open your eyes baby, you look beautiful, look at how perfect you are” You moaned, seeing the way Bucky’s body responded to your touch, his hips rocking off the bed, thrusting into your hand faster, his legs spread apart even further. His legs squirmed, his cock growing harder in your hand, you knew he was close to cumming.
“Y/n...”
“What is it baby?” You cooed, continuing to stroke him, keeping his orgasm right on edge.
“Baby, need more, please, gonna cum”
“You wanna cum my beautiful baby?” You peppered soft kisses to the side of his face, his wide puppy eyes pleading with you as he nodded.
“Wanna cum, you make me feel so good-fuck please y/n”
“Go ahead and cum baby” Your arms wrapped around is body, kissing and cradling him while he grasped his cock, giving himself quick tight strokes, his moans growing louder and he brought forth his orgasm.
“I-fuck-I’m gonna cum”
“Cum baby, my beautiful Jamie” You hugged his body tighter as he cried out, his body tensing, his cock throbbing as thick white streams of cum coated his chest and stomach. “I love you so much bubba”
“I-I’m cumming, fuck, don’t stop baby, please-please keep talking, m’cumming so much” His voice was a soft whimper, moaning while you whispered in his ear, no one had ever made him feel so loved and protected the way you did. He felt waves of pleasure continue to wash over him, his hand continuing to work as his cock.
“Feels good y/n, p-please angel, don’t stop, I need it baby” He couldn’t take his eyes off the mirror, the way you held him, the way you looked at him, your hands caressing his skin, treating him with babylike softness. He didn’t want to be anywhere else.
“I adore you bubba, so special to me baby”
Bucky’s chest rose and fell with each of your words, he loved the way you let him feel vulnerable without judging him, you had always put him first. He felt overwhelmed with the way you made him feel, his body still throbbing, tears stinging his eyes, his lip trembling slightly. You rocked his body gently, loving the way he was soft just for you.
“You’re my angel, my Bucky, my everything”
Tears slipped down his cheeks, the softest sob slipping past his lips while his hand rested on his softening cock, giving it one last squeeze before his body relaxed.
“I’ll always love you baby” You kissed away the tears streaming down his face, your hand brushing his hair away from his forehead. He whined, feeling you move from behind him, not liking the loss of contact from you.
“Just going to clean you baby, I’ll be back” You gave him a quick peck, grabbing a warm damp towel, wiping him down before laying beside him to cuddle. You squealed, feeling his arms grab you and hug you tightly, burying his face into your chest, his voice muffled as he nuzzled further.
“iluyu”
“Bucky, I can’t hear you” You giggled at his pouty face when he reluctantly pulled his face away, looking at you with his puppy eyes.
“I love you”
You kissed his nose, your fingers gently carding through his hair while he closed his eyes, melting into your touch. You were his safe place, you were his home, you were his everything.
“I love you my beautiful baby, always”

In Defense of Marinette
I like Marinette. While there are many valid criticisms of her writing, the same can be said for literally every other character and she's actually doing pretty well given that she's the main character. After all, in a show where consistent characterization is an ongoing issue, the one with the most screen time will probably be the one who's the biggest victim of the issue.
This is heavily exacerbated by the rule that supposedly governs Miraculous. Namely that, in each story, Marinette must make a mistake. Or, at least, so says the head writer:
Tumblr media
I really do not care what this guy says on Twitter or anywhere else. I only care about what's in the show because, if you have to go outside the text to understand the text, then you have no idea how to tell a good story.
However, unlike many of the tweets that I've seen, this one isn't some BS bit of lore. It's a writing rule and it has substantial backing in the text. It's extremely rare to have an episode where Marinette comes out smelling like roses and that's a problem because Miraculous has over 100 episodes. In other words, to follow this rule, the writers have to come up with over 100 ways for Marinette to be wrong so of course she's going to come across poorly. Why would you do this to your main character?
It's extremely common for kids shows to have a "lesson of the day" element to them. Someone always needs to learn something, but I've never seen a show misunderstand the assignment so badly. Learning a lesson is not the same as doing something wrong.
It's been a while since I watched the 2010 version of My Little Pony, but it really leaned into that whole "lesson of the day" thing and it actually knew what it was doing, so I'm going to talk about it briefly to discuss things that Miraculous should have done.
The first thing to note is that MLP had an unambiguous main character - Twilight Sparkle - but Twilight was not the one who learned all of the lessons. She had a pet dragon and a crew of five friends who would, occasionally, be the ones to learn the lesson because there were lots of lessons that simply didn't fit Twilight's character. Instead of warping Twilight to make the idea work (cough cough Ikari Gozen cough), the writers just let someone else have the spotlight for a bit.
This is an excellent way to build out your cast and Miraculous had plenty of opportunities to do it. For example, Lila should not have been Marinette's issue. The fact that Lila hates Marinette could have certainly stuck around, but the one who takes her down and learns to investigate her sources? That should have been Alya. A liar is the perfect enemy for an investigative journalist, but a poor enemy for someone who shines as a battlefield commander and overthinks when she's given too much time.
Another way that MLP would teach lessons was to have someone other than Twilight or the main crew cause the issue that they then had to deal with. This leads to one of the best moments in children's television:
youtube
And, frankly? Marinette deserves a moment like this. That poor girl has been through hell and is never allowed to make the right call when it really matters. The show will even completely rewrite its lore to make her fail (see: Strike Back). That is such an awful thing to do to your lead! Shows about female empowerment should include women feeling powerful and, no, Lila and Chloe don't count!
Also, the show is literally about Gabriel taking advantage of people who are upset. You don't need to have Marinette make a mistake to shoehorn in a life lesson. Akumas are life lesson fodder and season 1 actually seemed to get this. I'm not sure why they switched gears to "Marinette is the star and, therefore, must always be wrong."
The final way that MLP taught lessons was to have Twilight do something wrong because having your main character do something wrong is a totally valid way to teach lessons. It just shouldn't be your only way because you know who is always wrong in children's media?
Villains.
They wrote Marinette like a villain.
And a large part of the fandom hates her for it because of course they do.
You're not supposed to like villains.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I swear I don't hate the show, I don't even hate any of the ladies above, not even Stella, it's just insanely unfair how the women get treated in Helluva.
And no, I don't need the creators of any given media to hold my hand and walk me through every tiny choice made by every character in said media.
Of course I can infer that Stella grew up in the same pre-determined mold Stolas was forced into. Of course I can infer that she learned tantrum behavior and violence probably got her what she wanted so her royal parents didn't have to hear it.
I can infer that Barbie self harms bc a tiny thin scar doesn't form a perfect circle around your forearm by accident, and an "X" doesn't perfectly cross out a tattoo that probably causes you great trauma to look at every day, on accident. Her tail scars are deeply concerning and saddening to think about, bc again, why do they PERFECTLY match her twin brother's natural markings? I can infer that his actions, intentional or not, deeply traumatized her, and her response was to remove a piece of herself that reminded her of him. It's dark, it's mature, it's compelling and it makes sense. The issue is, it will probably never be touched on.
I adore Millie, I adored her before season two was even announced. To the contrary, I actually don't care if she ever gets a deep deep dive at her backstory. There have been PLENTY of male characters across all kinds of media that are simply psychotic little murder gremlins, and no one ever bats an eye at it. I adore her as the murder gremlin queen she is. But as she's main cast, it's incredibly unfair by comparison how she gets utilized and how she doesn't. One minute she can take down a 60 meter tall fish monster single handedly, the next minute, because the plot wants this to be about the bois, a single hit breaks her arm to the point that BONE IS PIERCING THROUGH HER SKIN, and she just happens to get thrown directly into the world's MOST CONVENIENTLY PLACED AND ARMED bear-trap ever. It doesn't snag her face, her hair, or her hand or arm or torso or back, she falls just perfectly that her leg is just perfectly in its jaws. No arteries got caught? There's not an excess of blood, she's by the show's own dialogue, "fine." But she's benched for the rest of the episode.
And maybe it wouldn't be so bad from the critical eye if the excuse given for it wasn't SO hollow. "Helluva is more male focused and Hazbin is more female focused." Ma'am. Who do you think you're fooling out here. Angel Dust and Alastor built the HH fandom. Do you expect me to believe Mimzy or Niffty are going to be treated any better than the Helluva gals? Mimzy is literally already on the wiki as a "minor character".
It's truly ok to focus your story on males. There is literally a whole genre of anime focused on mostly male stories. But if someone, or a lot of someones, feel your female cast is lacking in substance, I find it insulting to dismiss them and say they're misreading the media and nitpicking. They care about the show, YOUR show, they care about YOUR characters, if you can remember back when you were a smaller creator HERE on tumblr, ppl love when you ask them about their OCs. And you don't have to spit out a quick bs backstory to your character if you haven't given it much thought, that's not what anyone is asking for. (Cough, Unhappy Campers, COUGH).
Idk how to wrap this critique up, so I'm just gonna say, Moxxie's mom is too badass to be Mrs. Knofirstname Knolastname. 🤡

Something finally clicked for me irt Destiny YouTubers and how so many of them generate fake outrage for views.
some background context:
Earlier today I saw Tweet by one of the writers/desginers of Obsidian Games J.Sawyer & One of the writers of Night in The Woods S. Benson (Both involved with highly successful & critically beloved Single player games)
They were mocking some sentiment about how BG3 being successful is some how a threat to them and how that idea that ones success at telling a good story somehow puts them in a corner
Aztecross had a video about Baulder's Gate and was airing that exact sentiment with that annoying rant face YTbrs do. Like this is a game that's its own thing and isn't a Live Service and a nice sp rpg
and too somehow turn that news into some controversy and how other games are "scared bc now they have to put in effort " blah blah blah
like?!? that just shows the worst. that somehow every video even on games that have no connection to the Live Service (*cough*Destiny*cough*) side of the industry somehow is made to stir up negative sentiment about them
Like dude just play a game ans have fun and idk talk about what you like about it. And if that's not enough to keep viewers interested you have no one to blame but yourself bc you cultivated a base thats addicted t being mad
Yep, I've seen that whole "controversy." I have no clue why people are comparing a singleplayer RPG that's been in development for 6 years to live service games. Or other games in general. Like, these are not the same thing. They can never be the same thing and they never will. No one is being threatened. They're different parts of the market. Most people play both; they take a break from a live service to play a newly released singleplayer and then when they're done with it, they go back to the live service while they wait for something else.
The only "threat" here is gamers expecting two completely different types of games to be the same. Like expecting that a live service game that has to develop things in the span of six months in advance to have the same type of content as a game that's been developing for 6 years and is one and done on release.
If they want Destiny (or any live service game) to come close to something like this, they will have to come to terms with "content droughts" aka periods of months and even years where no new content is being put out because the developers are working on a massive release that will come out in 6 years. Which means that they don't want a live service game.
And that's fine! There are games being released that aren't live service games. Go play them! I don't know why they expect Destiny to stop being a live service game suddenly after being one for 9 years. Like, you knew what you were getting into when you decided to make Destiny your only game. It's always been a live service.
All in all, as usual, these people have massive addiction problems and burnout and need to literally NOT base their entire income on a single video game. Bungie isn't making a video game for streamers to build their career on, they're making a game for normal people who have plenty of stuff to do, sometimes even too much. They want a game like Baldur's Gate but that will continuously update with perfect quality content until the heat death of the universe. The only "threat" to the gaming industry is influential gaming "personalities" convincing people that this is normal to expect and possible to achieve.

There is a post that comes across my dash every so often which talks about the two fundamental kinds of tragedies: the story that is tragic because it was always going to end in sorrow; and the story that is tragic because it didn't *have* to end in sorrow.
The latest episode of Wheel of Time (2x07) is, I think, an example of the latter - and yet, at the same time, I think it was a tragedy that was *destined* to happen.
I know there are theories concerning Compulsion having been used on Siuan (and possibly some other theories about why she acted as she did in Cairhien), and I do not at all want to discount them because honestly it would make sense. But, taking the events of the episode at face value - as much as I hate it, and as much as I personally wish it had gone a little differently, I do think that the way Moiraine and Siuan's conflict culminated was a horrible, tragic example showing just how toxic, damaging, and outright dangerous the fundamental traditions of the White Tower (and even culture of the Aes Sedai) are and have become.
But I'm getting a little ahead of myself.
I do think that this episode, more than any of the others yet, suffered from the limited episodes Rafe/the writers were given to work with. It felt rushed, and we didn't get the chance to breathe with any of the characters in the really intense and honestly critical emotional scenes (e.g. the scene at the beginning where Moiraine and Siuan talk).
And it's there - the first scene with Moiraine and Siuan - that I think the tragedy that was to come was irrevocably decided. Because if Siuan had stopped, had listened, had given Moiraine the time she needed to be able to talk about what was happening, I think the whole mess could have been avoided. But Siuan didn't.
And I understand why, I think. Siuan was afraid and hurt. To her point of view, Moiraine had made it clear that she had cut her out of her confidence and counsel. Moiraine had been purposefully neglecting to share critical information with Siuan, and that information was very impactful on her ability to fill her role in the plan. To Siuan, I'm sure it absolutely looked like Moiraine had already broken faith with her - had already decided it wasn't *them* trying to find and protect and ready the Dragon Reborn, but *Moiraine* alone. Whether Siuan thought that choice was made from pride, grief, or Moiraine distrusting/distancing herself from Siuan, I don't think it would matter really. To Siuan, the outcome was the same.
It wasn't her and Moiraine against the world anymore. It was her, and Moiraine, and the world.
And Moiraine had proven herself incapable - at least, that's what it looked like.
There were plenty of ways that this could have been avoided. Moiraine could have been more open and forthright. Lan could have told Siuan about his suspicions regarding Moiraine's stilling. There are likely things that Alanna or even Verin could have said that would have inclined one (or the other, or even both! all three of them!) to have made different choices.
But there, I think, is the reason that this tragedy, while it could have been avoided, was destined to happen all the same - in one form or another, even if not that exact time and place and between those very specific women.
Because the Aes Sedai value secrecy and personal agenda above all else. Even if those secrets and those agendas are in the service of something else, something greater - a perfect example, of course, being Moiraine searching for the Dragon Reborn - the Aes Sedai do not trust each other. They cannot. Because their lives, their very society and community, is built on secrecy, on lies-spoken-as-truth, on politics and power and hidden agendas. They are at war against themselves, and not just because of the Black Ajah. They are at war against themselves because the White Tower does not allow honesty, trust, or open loyalty between its Sisters - ever.
And that is why, in the end of it all, I think the White Tower and the Aes Sedai, at least as they exist right now, need to be razed. Because how are those who are meant to protect and guard and guide the world able to do so, if they cannot even trust *any* of their own sisters to do the same for them?
That is why, while the tragedy of this episode could have been forestalled, maybe even avoided - it was destined to happen all the same.
But it hurts - so goddamn bad - that it had to be here, and now, and between Siuan and Moiraine.

Heartwarming & hilarious moments of La Scaloneta
Tumblr media
Fact that AFA chose Qatar University Hostel as their homebase, despite not being as luxurious as the other places (hotel, resort, etc), but it has the perfect open air-circulation for them to cook Asados (x)
One of the article I read wrote: La Scaloneta formed their strong chemistry over playing truco, drinking mate, eating asados, and listening to reggaeton music. Simplicity at its finest 😭😭
There’s this post-match interview session of Licha when he cried remembering his late grandparents, and Macca who was standing near Licha came to comfort him by patting his head & massaging his shoulder +also, when Lea came in the middle of Enzo’s post-final match interview and patted Enzo’s head with such affection
The way La Scaloneta welcomed Kun, Kun x Leo reunion as roommate, Kun visited Argies' night practice, Kun was there during Arg vs Netherland, Arg vs Croatia, and until Final
Dibu's gestures toward his teammates during the 2 penalty shoot-outs (this is important because both Noppert and Lloris did not help their own teammates unlike what Dibu did)
Fide marched forward when he saw Dumpfries tried to disturb Enzo
also, Fide came in between Dibu and Enzo when Dibu was half-joke cursing at Enzo for failing in penalty kick 😂
Kun, Licha, Lauti came in between Leo's verbal feud against Weghorst
Licha showed his concern for Gio's condition in the midst of Arg's celebration
Dibu told Leo that the Flying Dutchman (maybe he referred to Van Gaal) talked too much, Leo's reply "Well, tomorrow I'll score twice" --and ofc he did
Messi's 'Roman' goal celebration in front of Van Gaal, article said he took revenge on behalf of Riquelme who once feuded with Van Gaal
not to be left out, Dibu's "I FUCKED YOU TWICE" to Van Gaal's side
Ota's celebration after El Toro scored the last penalty toward the Netherland players was the payback for all the distraction they did to Enzo & Lauti (stuffs that's not captured clearly on the tv)
Leo Messi ran toward Dibu when everyone ran to Lauti
Fide came to hug Modric 😭
Cuti celebrated Messi's goal by screaming in front of Mbappe because previously Mbappe had a verbal feud with Enzo and Cuti said Mbappe acted disrespectfully?
also, everyone clearly targeted at Mbappe because of his comment about the Latam football/people ((because clearly Rodri came to hug Griezzi, Licha came to hug Rapha, also Fide and Papu came to hug and shook hand with several France players))
Scaloni’s several mins late World Cup champion reaction, only to be embraced first by Lea 😭
The way they made sure Nico, Gio Lo Celso, and Kun were part of the World Cup champion celebration 😭
Leo - Fideo’s hug 😭
Leo's concern when he saw drunk Kun, asked him to stop drinking, and Kun's response: If anything bad happens to me, let it happens here in Qatar. I'm happy. We are World Cup champion, pa' 😭
They invited Kun to fly back home with them together, and Kun was all ready to go, only then remembered he left Benja 😭😭😭
Everyone actually just protected each other during the drunk-fest 😭 Fide protected Kun, Leo-Lea protected Rodri, Acuña and the other guys protected Scalo 😭
some people criticized Dibu’s gesture, one of them was this unknown, unimportant, unrelated ex-France player. Fideo, Lea and Pezzella came to defend Dibu by leaving comment to this guy’s post. This guy then lamely attacked Fideo only then to get a clapback from Fide’s wife cuz apparently this guy previously had a domestic abuse case against his ex The poin is, these guys defend each other both IRL and online
All of them basically took a pict with Leo and the World Cup trophy and posted it to their SNS with captions that bawled our eyes out
vice versa, all Leo’s World Cup champ -related posts are total gems
Tumblr media
The list is endless, every day I discover new stuffs from them and it’s beautiful, and I know due to the languange barrier there must be plenty that I missed, so if anyone of you reading this and have something more to share, please do tell me ❤😘

I'm obsessed with the idea of The Perfect Troll. The idea is that it's something that 99% of people will not even notice, but for the exact kind of argumentative self-important jerk, it's a giant middle finger they can't get over.
The closest to a good example I have on the top of my head is the posters for my floppy exhibit, which is almost one.
Tumblr media
And what's wrong with that? Nothing!
Except it's Comic Sans, the "worst font". And for the kind of people who actually believe that, it is so fucking annoying.
This one is only almost perfect, though, because I'm hitting a bunch of graphical designers with the splash damage. And I'm sure plenty of them are perfectly reasonable people.
But the idea of something that's quite reasonable that's also a giant FUCK YOU to specific people, but only the specific people who have caused their own misery? Beautiful!
Like, the last* episode of Babylon 5 has a closing card:
Tumblr media
And in the commentary, the show's creator JMS said:
And yeah, that little closing card is going to remain on the show for its life...which will be long, long after its detractors (and admittedly myself) have gone to dust. On the one hand, it is a statement of hope to anyone else out there who has a dream, to follow it no matter who speaks against you, no matter the odds, no matter what they say to or about you, no matter what roadblocks they throw in your way. What matters is that you remain true to your vision.
On the other hand, for the reviewers and the pundits and the critics and the net-stalkers who have done nothing but rag on this show for five years straight, it is also a giant middle finger composed of red neon fifty stories tall, that will burn forever in the night.
In billiards, we call that a bank-shot.
Anyways, I was thinking about this because I realized astrology is the "no brown m&ms" test for human interaction.
* kinda. It was supposed to be the last episode and only kinda is, because of Reasons

I found this by one of my (ex) moots who have unfollow me, cause now they're anti -JJK :
"JJK really went from a loved manga to a mid-to-bad story with insufferable fans 🙏 may more of us hate it in the future. It snatches the spotlight from genuinely good shows and its another case of "general shonen fan will call any trash 'goat' if the fight is well animated".
I used to be a fan, until the start of the culling game. And after this controversial, inconsistent and inhumane adaptation of shibuya, im glad that I have no interest in both manga and show anymore"
Do you think Culling game is hard to understand, cause several of my (ex) moots also start dislike JJK after that arc?
I can't speak for everyone who dislikes jjk, but I think for most people who dislike the Culling Games, it's a sort of recency bias (except in the opposite way it's usually used). Many criticisms levied against the Culling Game were also said during the Shibuya arc as it was coming out and are showing up again, now that it has been animated. Things like "too many fights", "I don't care about these new characters", "the pacing is shit", "killing too many main characters makes deaths meaningless", "Yuuji isn't even the main character anymore" are often said for the Culling Game arcs, but also something I now see a lot from anime-onlys for the Shibuya arc. It's just how Gege writes and either you like it or you don't. A lot has also to do with binge-reading something and reading it weekly (especially if you don't reread chapters). The flow of action and payoffs are much more apparent when you binge something than when you have to wait for little titbits of the story to come out and stew for weeks over setups for later plot points. Any minor grievances you have are also easier forgotten when you read the full story. Problems like "I don't know what's going on or who these characters are and therefore I don't care" show up a lot when you aren't used to or don't like reading something weekly. There are people who complain that they don't know who Higuruma or Kashimo are, when it is very easy to remember that if you just keep the story in mind, reread past chapters or only read full arcs. They certainly don't lack characterization. Gege's writing definitely has flaws, especially recently, but we got to know plenty about Higuruma, Kashimo, Takaba etc.. Someone might not like them or isn't interested in their stories because of personal taste, but that's not Gege's fault. I for example like the Culling Game much more than Shibuya or Hidden Inventory and I think Shibuya can drag a lot at certain parts, but the highlights still make it a good arc. Perfect Preparation and Culling Game just has more to offer to me because it focuses on different characters and I like the new ones generally much more than say the Kyoto school group. Each of the new characters have tons more depth than any of the curse users that worked for Kenjaku previously and thereby liven things up a lot. Not to mention more lore. Thing is, if your favourite characters appear less and you don't like the new ones much, that will inevitably turn you off the story. That's valid, but personal taste is subjective, it's not what makes the story bad.
There are plenty criticisms to be made and you can clearly tell that Gege is rushing some parts of the story now, so I can understand if people stop reading because of that, but it's a matter of if the highs outweigh the lows. As whole arcs, I definitely don't think Culling Game is any worse than Shibuya. Or that Perfect Preparation is worse than Hidden Inventory (I think those are better to compare, since HI has a very different focus and is much shorter than Shibuya or CG). I'm a bit sceptical about the final fight against Sukuna in Shinjuku (excluding Kenjaku's part and Hakari vs Uraume from this for now, I liked those), but there's enough there to keep me invested and continue reading. I can understand though if that's not the case for others. Similar for the controversial timeskip and don't even get me started on Sukuna vs Gojo. Some criticism I don't agree with (sorry but Takaba vs Kenjaku was actually good), but there are other valid points to be made. For example, I recently saw a discussion on twt about how we are barely shown Gojo interacting with the students he supposedly cares about. I can totally understand that, especially when we are given more flashbacks to what happened during the timeskip and Gojo isn't in any of them and apparently not invested in what his students and friends are gonna do in case he dies. It does give the impression that he just doesn't give a shit about any of them anymore and it doesn't help his lack of characterization and character development post-unsealing.
Generally, I think it's best for these people who are "anti-jjk" to just drop the show if they can't enjoy anything about it at all. There are many more mangas, animes or other stories out there they could read/watch, instead of forcing themselves through something they don't like. I do that with plenty of stories as well. So if your ex moot decides to drop the manga and anime because they don't like it anymore, good. Find something else.
I think their criticism that jjk "snatches the spotlight from genuinely good shows" makes no sense though. That isn't even the case within the magazine Weekly Shonen Jump. If something is good, people will read it. Look at the boom for Kagurabachi, a series that just started and is already loved and continuously in the top 10 of the Jump App. People can read multiple stories at the same time, that's the whole reason these magazines don't just feature one manga. Sure, some really good stories out there are less popular, but that's not because of jjk. JJK being popular doesn't stop me from reading Houseki no Kuni or Monster, mangas that aren't as well known. One Piece or Pokemon aren't stealing anything from jjk, so why would that be the case for jjk and some lesser known manga. There are more complicated reasons for why something is getting less traction than just "series x has gained popularity". And I don't like powerscalers or your average blue checkmark anime fan on twt either, but then just ignore them. They are in every shonen fandom (and seinen and shoujo, although in case of shoujo it's a little different but not less obnoxious). Other fans having shit tastes isn't new or unique to jjk. That's just fandom.
Either way, glad this person moved on to another series, may they be happier there.

You think the ATLA fandom would have done a better job writing the show?
Thanks for the ask!
Honestly? Absolutely not. Treating the ATLA fandom as one entity here is a bit of a misnomer here imo. When talking to @phoebester, I mentioned that I kinda feel like I'm more a part of the Zutara fandom rather than the general ATLA fandom- !nd that's for good reason! Zutara fans are inherently more critical because we like something that deviates from canon, and I find that the ATLA fandom are large much more closely matches the disposition of casual watchers, who maybe watch the show once and never think on it further- which is also a valid way to interact with media, it's just not my way, especially with media I find lacking in some way. ATLA is great overall, but it has some glaring flaws -some of which are more controversial than others- and I feel that only fans would really bother to ruminate on those in the way I find a lot of Zutarians do. I'm certain some Kataangers or fans of other ships also have issues with canon, but I feel that no one moreso than Zutara has such beef with it.
So if the question is simply about the fandom at large? No, that's unfeasible, a whole fandom can't write a cohesive story when it already has such huge disagreements about where canon ended up... But I gather that's not what you really meant, anyway. I have read fanfics that feel like they genuinely fixed a lot of the bad writing decisions of the show, but there are also many that made it very clear to me that not everyone necessarily understands/are capable of recognizing the core issues behind them, which makes it difficult to fix them. I've read fics retelling the whole story of the show that change one core thing, but fail to recognize that it would then mean that events don't happen in exactly the same way (Zuko joins early and Aang not being the Avatar are frequent offenders here). So like? At the end of the day, it once again comes to individual writers and their ability to write this story in a competent and engaging way- ATLA had good writers on board, which is why it succeeded despite Bryke being shit ones. I definitely believe that there are writers in the fandom that could've done a better job than Bryke, but like... At its core, the issue with them is about control and entitlement- they don't care about being the ones to put forth solid writing, and it shows. Quite frankly, under Bryke's supervision, no one could've made a better show than what we got, and as tragic as it is... Without them there would be no show, so this is all kind of a moot point in the end, unfortunately.
Also, to me "a better show" would've meant Aang getting completely rehauled, removed, or changed to a villain, and that's a bit of an extreme position because I know that plenty of people do enjoy at the very least season 1 and 2 Aang, but like... Yeah that's just not something I can vibe with anymore unfortunately, even if I tolerable him lol. I also believe in Azula redemption and that Aang should've killed Ozai, both of which are yet again controversial issues, so like.. What to me would be the perfect, most sensible version of show would really not jive with others, which is why a lot of different fics exist!
Adding this in immediately after posting: Also endgame Zutara but that's like. Literally my whole bread and butter so I forgot to add that because of how obvious it seemed to me

atla fans can be pretty orientalist ngl like TEXTBOOK orientalist.
like okay I know I know the original show is so good but it isn't perfect and there is PLENTY of room for improvement. plenty. we all knew this at the time, back when it was airing and then there was that long break between books 2 and 3. like we all knew it was great but also had its problems. idk why fans from the original run act like this show is perfect.
one of the biggest problems has always been how white the writers room was. how the creators, especially bryke, were profiting by selling the aesthetics of various asian and indigenous peoples to a us american audience.
this is how you get the borderline weird anti-indigenous focus on sexism and misogyny in the water tribes without much exploration of how sexism and misogyny impacted other groups. like actually I'm GLAD that it's toned down but still present in the live action show because sokka was mostly around women and girls for a lot of his teen years. why would HE be so over the top sexist? like in comparison with anyone else, it makes no sense. unless of course you think about it through the lens of how white colonizers tend to think of indigenous peoples - backwards.
I think it's interesting that this show is mostly being worked on by Asian and indigenous people and so many fans never even wanted to give it a chance. I know, I know- I remember the film too. but from the jump, fans have been so quick to dismiss EVERY little detail* or leak without even seeing it first.
bryke are a big part of the story, I know. but they are not all of the people who were behind it. it seems to me that a lot of the fans of this show are weirdly protective of these two white guys who decided to part from the show. they weren't forced out, they left. and yes I'm biased because I saw just how shitty they treated fans of zutara (largely girls and VERY, VERY diverse) at literal conventions, how they egged on some toxic bullying from other parts of the fanbase to the point that frankly it's never really worth engaging in non-zutara fan spaces because people are so reactive and weird about even the mention of zutara. and then these same assholes will make comparisons to reylos as if zutara fans EVER harassed poc fans and especially actors. but whatever, that's my bias. but I can respect that they also created this amazing show that I've loved for half of my life.
I still see it as a good thing that the people working on this show come from the cultures bryke and nickelodeon profited off of without giving anything back.
so I guess my question to white fans is this: if you haven't watched yet because you are mad about bryke or some of the changes you've heard about or whatever, why do you not trust people from the cultures atla draws upon to adapt this story? are you just here to consume exotic aesthetics? why are bryke the only people who can sell those aesthetics to you?
*btw I'm not talking about the sokka casting shit, that's different and should be criticized. Also Albert Kim was the showrunner of Sleepy Hollow and was complicit in racist treatment of Nicole Beharie so he is not someone I trust very much. also there are definitely critiques I have of the show but it's not bad, not even remotely. it's worth watching.

My rewatch of The John Larroquette Show (so far)
Tumblr media
In my effort to keep my Larroquette obsession thriving, I've recently started a rewatch of The John Larroquette Show. Like Night Court (which I rewatched in 2022), I remember watching this show when it originally aired.
But unlike Night Court, my memory of most of the episodes is a bit fuzzy. I remember the main characters and their personalities just fine, but not so much what happens in terms of the storyline.
Regardless, I'm enjoying the rewatch, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how much the show holds up over time, how evergreen the topics are, and how strong the jokes are. Seriously. They are constantly telling jokes that I swear are as old as vaudeville, but they kill in terms of laughs from the audience and from me as well.
Example: In s2e8 "The Book of Rachel," Mayim Bialik guest stars as a young hippie-ish woman named Rachel who shows up in hopes of finding out if John Hemingway (JL's character) is her real dad. She's narrowed down the search to 3 men who knew her mom, who was living wild and free back in the '70s, around that time.
When John asks how her mother's doing, Rachel says, "She's doing pretty good. She's been clean for about 5 years now." John, a recovering alcoholic who's been sober for 1 year, says, "That's great! So no more drugs and booze, huh?" And Rachel says, "Oh no, there's still plenty of drugs and booze. She's just been clean for 5 years."
I'm not telling it very well in writing, but I swear to you, that joke is funny as hell, and Mayim and JL's delivery is perfection. Plus, it got a huge laugh from the audience, which speaks to its timeless nature.
Anyway, I just wanted to share a thought or two on the show so far. (I'm on episode 12 of Season 2, just in case anyone wants to know the context.)
Here are some random thoughts I've had so far:
Like Night Court, the show does a solid job of mixing comedy and drama. The first season is a bit more drama heavy because they dealt more with the recovery storyline, but I think it still worked and the whole concept is still pretty daring (i.e., revolving around the unglamorous lives of people who work in and around a bus station at night) even compared to today's sitcoms, which still tend to play it safe.
JL's hair in the first season is absurdly long. Or at least it gets to be absurdly long about halfway through the season. And it's not a good look. Not because he looks bad with long hair, but because it looks like it takes a lot of upkeep. And a man who is working 3rd shift at a bus station and lives in a halfway house/SRO building doesn't seem like he'd have a strict hair care regimen to make it appear perfectly tamed at all time. Seriously, at one point I had to ask out loud, "I wonder if they curl the ends with a curling iron or do they use rollers?"
This may be the first TV show I ever saw Chi McBride in. Despite seeing him on plenty of TV shows and films over the years, I never knew he had such a lovely singing voice. I'm glad they gave him a chance to share his singing talent. His version of "Danny Boy" in season 1 was very good.
The 2 corrupt police officers who blatantly flaunt their bias and awfulness are both funny and a great commentary on what was happening in America at the time (i.e., the Rodney King police beating, and the aftermath of the verdict was still very fresh in everyone's minds then). Sadly, it is an evergreen topic for the U.S., but I think it says a lot about the writers for TJLS that they attacked the subject so openly and didn't shy away of being critical of police or lampooning them. I don't think a modern American sitcom would approach the subject so brazenly and unapologetically today. JL has said in a number of interviews that the show was kind of ahead of its time. And I'm inclined to agree with him, at least in some areas.
It's so cool going back to watch old TV shows and catching actors who have now become bigger names in the business. I just watched an episode with Jane Lynch working as a mental health care professional. Of course, this was way before she found success on Glee and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.
Does JL manage to work in a reference to Samuel Beckett into everything he works on starting with this series? It's starting to function as his own career Easter egg at this point. I'm not complaining. Just wondering.
I know Don Reo created the show, but I suspect JL had a small amount of his life's adventures and details shape the John Hemingway character (like the Beckett references, his running commentary on anything that happened in the 1960s, his openness about being friends with anyone from any background, etc.). But the only way to truly know this is for JL to 1) tell us in Q&As or interviews, or 2) write an autobiography already, dammit!
In s2e1 "Changes," JL sits down in a chair by swinging his leg over the back of it, and I immediately thought of the Riker Maneuver. I know JL did it before Jonathan Frakes on TNG, but it will always be the Riker Maneuver to me.
Another way the show was ahead of its time was in its portrayal of sex workers and trans people. Most of the time, it's played for comedy on the show (I mean, it is a sitcom after all), but there's a very real attempt to share stories of Carly, Teddi and Pat that are humanizing. Teddi and Pat are trans sex workers, but they are accepted by most (not the male cop) and aren't just the butt of jokes. They even get included in simple things like group poker games and asked to watch the lunch counter when Dexter runs off to do something or other. That might seem like not a big deal, but at that time (the mid-90s), most inclusion of hookers and trans folks on TV usually involved heavy drama like trying to save them from their lives or begrudgingly acknowledging that they were a part of society with disdain and ridicule. And the overall acceptance of Carly as a friend and possible love interest without trying to save her or judge her was also a bit ahead of its time. And when there were moments of judgment, they were faced head on and challenged.

Ive got a question. If Rachel was a webtoon original but did NOT have her assistants to help with her art, would you still be so scrutinizing? Because I’ve seen plenty of other webtoon originals with wonky art and they don’t get as much flack as Rachel does. I think its generally okay for anatomy and hand gestures look bad in a weekly serial comic. When you’re crunching for time you have to sacrifice some of the art to complete deadlines.
~ Would you still love me if I was a worm? ~
You're asking 'what if's' that do not apply here and change the circumstances in which my blog and the community surrounding it exists.
Assuming you're the same anon from last, everything I said in that last post still answers your question here. There are comics that have and do get scrutinized, such as Boyfriends, Let's Play, and Religiously Gay. LO is just the one I want to talk about because it's the one that I loved the most before it fell the hardest. It's not much more complicated than that. I think it's easy to fall for the idea that all I do is criticize LO, but you're on an LO-critical-themed blog, of course it's all you're gonna see here lol
Literally nowhere am I saying that LO's art has to be perfect and absent of mistakes, wonkiness, or shortcuts. When it comes to making sacrifices to meet deadlines, you're preaching to the choir. But LO isn't a Webtoon Original without assistants or accolades or massive amounts of support from the platform. And I feel like you're taking my "nitpicking" of things like emoji's showing up in the comic and panels being copy pasted a little too seriously (it's shitposting, my guy) and severely misunderstanding the cause and effect of why LO is scrutinized the way that it is. Asking me "would it still be criticized if xyz" is severely missing the point of why we criticize it.
So to answer your question, no, I don't think LO would get the flak that it does if it didn't exist in the form that it does. But it does exist in that form, hence that's why we talk about it. So what's your question, really?

Unpopular opinion: praising a product for its potential is not a compliment in the slightest. Everything has potential. Everything has the chance to be great, with the right time and care. But ultimately, the final product is what has to be judged.
That being said, there is a difference between judging something for its more objective qualities or flaw, and judging it based on the amount of personal enjoyment it brought you - which yes, might involve thinking on how you would have tackled said product. You can say "I know it's bad but I had fun with it and its flaws inspired my creativity", as much as you can say "objectively I have nothing to criticize but it didn't suit my tastes". Just try to keep the two perspectives separate.
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree
The first part is why I refuse to be swayed by all the attempts to paint '06 as a hidden masterpiece, and that Colours and Generations were somehow the TRUE descent of the franchise. Because a lot of what they say about '06 ultimately boils down to "it's good, it just needed to be a little more good". Wow, such insight, but too bad for them, the hypothetical is not what myself and everyone else paid for.
Yes, there are some things I admit to liking in theory: Solaris is one of the more interesting monsters conceptually, and I think Elise is a good character who simply had the bad luck of being misused. I'm not staunchly averse to giving '06 credit for anything that's not the soundtrack... but I don't pretend its not '06; despite feeling more personal distaste for Frontiers nowadays, for reasons you are well familiar with by now, I still consider '06 the objective worst in the series due to how it affected Sonic in the eyes of fans and non-fans alike... well, Chronicles is tied with '06 cause of how blatantly trashy that game is, but you get my drift.
As for your second point, there are plenty of things that are relevant to me with both of those perspectives. On one hand, Wrath of Cortex is an alright game but is mainly just Crash 3.5, and Enter the Dragonfly only requires taking one look at it to see it's not a complete product, but I've always liked both of them regardless because I think they have a lot of appealing concepts going for them. Then there's the funny edgelord bang bang black hedgehog game, which I'm always ready to criticise (like '06, it too is not suddenly perfect storytelling just because the Fuck Pontaff brigade says so), but just as ready to praise the levels and missions I like, the scenes I think are good... or "good" (:P), the soundtrack as always, and of course, the depth and complexity of Black "Citizen Kane" Doom.
On the other hand, there are several popular games, shows, etc - none of which I'll bother naming this time around because I don't feel like getting my ass kicked verbally today - that I don't consider bad objectively, but they either don't interest me or turn me away for one reason or another. Or their fandoms hype them up too much.

Pika Rambles about the new OP because why not
If there’s anything I’ve learned from season 6 of MHA, it’s that whatever Twitter’s reaction is to something, I’m likely to have the opposite reaction.
I’m not often one to go into my opinions on things in MHA I feel are “good” or “bad.” Sometimes it happens, but just generally I’ve been trained to read and analyze a lot of things without respect to whether or not I like them or agree with their philosophies. I’m usually trying to understand a story more than anything.
But OPs are a different matter.
I have a weird thing for OPs. I’ve watched many over the years, and in some cases even decided whether or not I would watch an anime based on its OPs. (I’ve also...made a lot of AMVs.) OPs are supplementary material that are opportunities for animators to showcase their creativity and their understanding of the story’s themes. For that reason, I’ll happily ramble about my love for MHA OPs 1-4 and 7 anytime (god, especially 7; I’ll never get over the candy apple sakuga).
This time, OP 11, the ramble isn’t a good one. “What? Really? But everyone agrees it’s the shiniest one yet! Is it just that weird Ochako shit they threw in there?” No, stock anon. It’s so much more than that.
I have opinions.
If you like OP 11...you may not want to read my thoughts under the cut.
I’m just gonna complain in list form from here have fun.
1. First, all the good: I like the song. I realize not everyone’s gonna like the song, but I happen to like it. I also like some of the OP, particularly the first bits of it before the title card drops. I think it’s a good use of some of the cover/non-story artwork Horikoshi drew during this arc. Except already saying that, I can’t help but notice a huge missed opportunity. This cover art would’ve made for an EXCELLENT theme in the OP:

It would’ve made up for the egregious lack of All Might too.
2. That title card is awful. Come on. They used to do fun things with the design or colors or something. This is just...weird effects that maybe will cause someone a seizure. It’s certainly not pleasing to the eye.
3. I don’t have a problem with the split screen bit. It’s not great, but it’s not terrible. Except the animation they give Ochako was basically already used in OP 8 so I don’t know what that’s all about.
4. All the Lady Nagant art is super lame sorry why do they repeat the same angle and pose twice? They could have used other camera angles at least, or even do something more with her younger self and angst? This is about as one-note as her actual role in the story (okay maybe it fits then).
5. I don’t need to complain about the weird ship bait that is the Ochako scene in the way everyone else already has done for me. I have a pressing urge to bring up though that Bones once again shows their lack of creativity here, and it feels like they have a vendetta against Ochako too. Where is her action shot? Her sakuga? There are plenty of moments from this arc that could’ve made a much nicer action shot here. Her smile is so weird because this whole arc she’s getting serious for Izuku’s sake and frowns at him a lot and stands up to him essentially. This feels like heroine-ization and it’s awful. Ochako does much more impactful and moving shit this arc than whatever the hell this is.
6. How dare you cheapen the hand-holding symbol of this series do you even know what the fuck is happening in this manga??? [clings to Iida’s leg]
7. The sakuga of Izuku swinging around is okay, probably the best part of the OP--except then we run into the Lady Nagant issue again
8. What the fuck is the weird white corpse from AoT doing here? What? What is that? Hello?
9. It needs to be said: the sakuga of Iida et. al. looks like absolute ass. I’m sick of fandom just salivating for nothing but sakuga while having absolutely no standards. “Action lines? Cool angles? Speedy animation? Yay it’s perfect!” No, seriously, if everyone’s gonna be so critical of the story and animation and pacing all the time, where’s your criticism of the actual sakuga? This shot looks awful and no one is talking about it. Not only do all the characters involved move awkwardly, you can’t even tell who they are. I wish we could have seen better highlights of the characters themselves, their faces even, including Shigaraki’s. YEAH THAT’S RIGHT. THEY’RE FIGHTING SHIGARAKI IN THAT SHOT. DID YOU EVEN NOTICE? YOU PROBABLY THOUGHT IT WAS IZUKU, RIGHT? SEE HOW DUMB THIS IS? IT MAKES NO SENSE FOR THAT TO BE SHIGARAKI EITHER, BUT IT IS. GO PAUSE A FRAME AND CHECK IT OUT. The special effects of their super attacks at the end also look like ass. This was the worst sakuga we’ve seen since the third movie and I am not impressed and I’m mad other people are.
10. Epilepsy colors Izuku is also terrible sakuga he’s so off-model it hurts I can’t stand watching this bit.
11. The Izuku+Tenko sequence is nice and a good show of creativity, and yet Izuku also looks off-model and I can’t stand how this is NOT the right season for this imagery. So that makes this a spoiler, basically? It doesn’t belong here. I like the subtle hint at the OFA star with the sun glare behind Izuku’s offered hand, but still this feels like they have no idea what this arc is about.
12. Exhibit #999999 that it feels like the animators have no idea what’s up with this arc: the ending image of Izuku doing the All Might fist in the air pose. Like, maybe it works if you read it as “he’s able to represent All Might because everyone else is there with him,” but it just doesn’t...feel right. It’s not earned based on the rest of the OP. Why couldn’t we just have them all be around the All Might statue? I don’t know what are you all even thinking when you draw this shit
