When she covers his lips, struggling for a breath of fresh air yet again, Malleus grasps at her wrist as he kisses her palm. Each one of her fingers. The back of her hand when he turns it around. Her pulse. Then he rolls together with her, pressing her down, and puts his lips to her neck.

Every part of her that he didn't dare to touch, every part that her loose clothes kept well hidden. That shallow dip between her collarbones, the thin short scar beneath it. His lips press against her fast-beating heart, and for a moment Malleus revels in the knowledge that he's the one who made this sound so frantic. That underneath this skin, and flesh, and bones, in her very core Freya treasures a part of him in the same way he does when it comes to her.

For the first time that anxious throbbing at the back of his throat, that terrified whisper of constant loneliness in his ears dies down, swallowed by the certainty that the person so dear to him holds him in their heart.

It's funny to me when people insist that "ATLA was really feminist" as if there wasn't really only one feminist message which was the very generic "girls can fight too" spiel that every 2000s show had going on whenever they briefly tried to jump on the feminism bandwagon or whatever

#the main female characters who ended the show in relationships had all of their depth removed because of those relationships #I'm talking specifically about katara and mai but suki was by no means exempt from this either #also the only way female characters were ever shown to have an empowered role in society was in fighting #whereas male characters were political leaders strategists inventors ect #and its also worth mentioning that even though female characters could supposedly fight just as well as men #there were never any women in high ranking positions in the military and we were only shown any women in the military in breif cameos #and that was only in the fucking fire nation which sends entirely the wrong message #atla #avatar the last airbender #anti bryke #anti kataang #anti maiko #katara #mai #suki #toph #ty lee #ty lee is actually a really feminist character but I would say shes probably the outlier here #sexism #atla sexism #fandom sexism

Holy shit. I anticipated some tragic backstory from the "I must feed the young ones" panels, but what I'd guessed was that Senshi might have become so devoted to cooking and eating literally whatever because he'd previously survived a famine and had seen children starve to death. I did not expect him to have been the child who was the sole survivor of a doomed travel party, one of whom was determined to feed Senshi first because he was the youngest, and that Senshi has lived with the fear of having inadvertently committed cannibalism by eating stew that he'd never quite known the contents of. I'm happy for him that Laios deduced and confirmed for him that it was griffin meat, that he was able to taste the meal that saved his life once more and remember the friends he lost. Seriously, I'm crying, and also earnestly relieved that while his backstory is pretty dark, it's not the type of fucked up I'd been preparing myself mentally for.

#Dungeon Meshi #Delicious in Dungeon #Dunmeshi #though it IS really worth exploring the ethics of cannibalism in survival situations #The podcast You're Wrong About has a really interesting pairing of episodes #in the Donner Party and Flight 571 Crash episodes #Both about disasters in which people wound up eating their dead to survive #and an interesting connection they drew was that it wasn't the cannibalism itself #that destroyed the lives of the Donner survivors #it was the horror and disgust and societal rejection they got for having eaten human flesh #even the children who had no idea what they were eating were treated with revulsion #and this is clearly the response Senshi feared facing if anybody knew what he'd eaten #But Flight 571 like a century later #the survivors were faced with a lot of understanding when rescued #relatively little condemnation and revulsion #by and large commentators acknowledged that they did what they had to do #and sympathized with how difficult and painful it must have been #which is what Senshi gets from his party #Laios wants to figure out the truth because he knows it's hurting Senshi not to know #But at one point Marcille straight up says that none of them would think less of Senshi if he did eat dwarf stew #Okay so this is Marcille 'ardent student of blood magic' Donato #but Chilchuck agrees #anyway I think that would be a particularly interesting conversation to have in a cooking manga #how do you safely eat a dead friend when that's all you have to survive on?#what are the nutritional benefits other than 'better than starving'?#what are the risks? There's prion diseases and all sorts you can get #they write it off as eating the dragon part but they DO spend seven days eating Falin at the end #ARE there any in/famous cannibalism cases in this world?#Do peopel argue about whether or not it's cannibalism if a dwarf eats a tallman?#enquiring minds (mine) want to know

Is there a cat in cannon who got a good death who you think didn't deserve it? Especially if they committed crimes?

Tom the Wifebeater and his redemption death. No question. It's not even close.

Not only do I reject to the "redemption death" on the grounds of it being Tom the Wifebeater who is bullying others until his dying breath, even taunting Thunder about Turtle Tail is dead and the kits must be very torn up about it, but I reject "redemption through death" entirely. I don't like it in stories. It's a theme I deeply object to.

And again it's fucking wild that every time a character is a father, even if they are a wifebeater or a child abuser, the writers think that it bestows a glimmer of goodness into them which every abused child is forced to appreciate and cry about. Breezepelt, Thunder, Tallstar, Tom's children, all of them forced to reconcile and admit how much they wuv their papa.

Abusive dads in WC regularly get redemption deaths, too. Clear Sky dies saving his grandchild, Sandgorse died saving a rando in a tunnel, Tom the Wifebeater saving his daughter.

But Tom the Wifebeater is the worst example of it. Hands down.

#Though I will say it's not exactly a matter of a crime being 'too bad to come back from'#ANYONE can change.#But these ones DONT.#These fathers are *recontextualized* by their deaths and their victim is pushed into rethinking their anger towards them #IF they even had anger towards them at all. All of Tom's victims were too dead to have those feelings because DOTC hates women #And his children are destroyed when they learn that the guy they met once who kidnapped them and got their mom killed died #And that's why I generally hate redemption deaths. By their very nature they don't display what's so HARD about accountability #The changing of your behavior. Checking yourself. Admitting that your victims dont have to forgive you.#It's hard work!#It's painful sometimes! It's worth it but it's not always easy!#It's also its own reward. Your relationships improve. You feel better. You understand yourself.#but no. a redemption death is the end. You never really have to face what you did.#And I hate the way that lots of storytellers think it means it undoes the violence they did #IT does nothing. They're gone. The victims continue.#Where are my stories with RESENTMENT for that? How DARE you die for me?? How dare you run away from the hole you cut into my flesh???#You think the end of you becomes the missing piece of me?#Awful. I just don’t think I’ve ever been more grateful that they didn’t pull a “surprise! this guy is alive!” with Tech. It felt real, with all of us speculating, too - you always expect him to be there somehow, like it isn’t real, but it was. The war wasn’t fair to them. The Empire did what it does, and ends lives short, takes from those who don’t deserve it. Death is never something to plan for.

And his sacrifice meant everything because of it. He wasn’t some secret clone double agent, or hiding out waiting to be revealed, but he was what the batch treasured most, and what made them all able to live on and see life without conflict. And his goggles are there from the first episode to the last, when Omega grows up and leaves to become a pilot.

So. We got him back in the best way, I think, through memory. At least that was preserved the whole way through.

#like. how heartbreaking would it have been for a reveal. even if we all were theorizing it. yknow?#at least he died how he lived - doing it all for family #sure every pan to his shattered goggles had me pausing to sob but yknow. worth it #and like. What's your overall opinion on Thunder? (If you finished reading it) Despite a having a few issues with it personally, (such as Frostpaw deciding to become a med cat again (GIRL WHAT) and the Smokey stuff), I honestly really enjoyed it! I loved reading from Sunbeam's and Frostpaw's perspective, and actually like what they did with the park cats! They are silly, even if a little boring! :)

I really, really hope they explore Curlfeather more in the future!

I'm currently on Chapter 12 and... honestly I'm mostly just bored.

One traveling book per arc is already waaaaay too much. I'm not enjoying Frostpaw and Nightheart's chemistry at all, and it's frustrating that Tree is now suddenly part of the plot because they just suddenly remembered that they have an entire role dedicated to stopping conflict. Seeing StarClan NOW is also a huge disappointment, because I'd been liking this arc so much exactly because it was more grounded.

I keep wanting to skip chapters to get back to Sunbeam. I KNOW that Nightheart is Not Orange and still feels the need to pitch a fit over his mom having "high expectations" that were never actually on-screen. Frostpaw herself would be fun if she wasn't constantly brawling with travel filler and Riverstar/StarClan being obtuse.

And, knowing none of this is actually building anywhere and that I'm in store for a frustrating end-of-book gathering that doesn't really tie into the actions of the main characters, it's hard to care at all. That's my REALLY big problem right now. None of this matters, because Berryheart's gambit is something she's deciding entirely off-screen, uninfluenced and unobserved by ANY of the POVs.

What exactly is the point of THREE POVs, one of them seeing mere glimpses of the plot, and two of them witnessing the same exact sidequest? While one of the sidequest POVs doesn't actually DO anything because it's not even his sidequest?

Basically; sorry man I'm not having a good time here.

#Bones reads thunder #asc spoilers #I am actually very pro-spoiler because I strongly feel that a GOOD book or movie is not ruined (or even made better) by knowing its ending #I think if you NEED the shock of an ending to make it worth watching then it is a bad story.#So I don't regret looking at the spoiler thread at all just fyi #This ending makes it hard to care though.
