Something that hasn't stopped stunning me is that when you go to an environment you think you're familiar with in another state/country, you can find out it's still so different that it's new to you all over again.
I went to beaches all the time as a kid. I thought they came in Reedy Dunes or Rocky Coast and that was it. But there are beaches that are so flat and sandy they stretch across the horizon. There are beaches with trees. There are beaches made of solid stone.
Even the sounds. The wind has a dance with every plant. There are different birds with new songs. Even different dialects and languages from the local beach goers and what they're doing, if it's a public access beach! It's all different!
Each time I see a new beach it's breathtaking... and to someone else, my beaches would be totally new, just like theirs is to me. The fields, the forests, the lakes, the rivers. There's beauty all around you, no matter where you are, and you're in a unique position to experience it.

Oh God what is going on in there? What is happening in the newest bad live action adaptation of Avatar. What are they doing to my boy
Here is the last remaining artist of your culture's ancient, completely unique martial art. Miraculously, she survived a genocide of which your mother was a victim, broke out of imprisonment with a deadly technique she invented, and has lived for decades in secret just to be able to meet you.
You were brought together by fate, destiny itself, a concept you take very seriously. Once she is gone, a major practice of your culture dies forever, unless you take the torch.
Uhhhh sorry she kicks babies. Yeah because shes evil. Don't worry you have Grandpappy Sexism from the other side of the fucking world, it's close enough culturally. She's getting locked up foreverrrrr

Having completed a rewatch of Avatar...
It is not as perfect as I remember it being
There is so much cool stuff I'd forgotten about
I have a much stronger appreciation for the female characters, especially considering the time period ATLA was written in
The series' flaws are especially interesting now that I am older and more critical of the stories I engage with
Jesus Christ they weren't lying; those arcs surrounding Hama and Jet are pretty rancid in hindsight

average day in the tiktok warriors fandom
he's. he's literally described on the page as enjoying the feeling of making cats viciously maul each other. He gets "validation" for his feelings constantly through Gray Wing and his other sycophants kissing his ass, and still maliciously and intentionally torments them. He beats women and children for telling him no
What they want is BREEZEPELT. This describes BREEZEPELT. BREEZE. PELT.
The cat who is ACTUALLY reprimanded by authority for being angry all the time?? The one whose dad screeches at him for having basic needs?? A character who is explicitly shown to be manipulated by an evil force because they're the only ones who validate his feelings??
THAT Breezepelt?? Ringing any BELLS?
Lemmie guess. Tiktok probably doesn't like Breezepelt much because if you acknowledge that he's a child abuse victim, you can't keep woobifying Crowfeather into a sad boy. Lol.

They're trying to do Stonefur again. This is just Stonefur's execution but bad.
Bellowing Tigerstar speech about strength
Sudden killing of beloved deputy
RiverClan cats all frowning and being sad and scared so you know it's just The Evil Leader and not a systemic problem
Even the upcoming fact he picks Berryheart as a deputy which seems pre-planned invokes an image of how Stonefur's mock trial was rehearsed.
It's a cheap replay of one of the most iconic scenes in warriors without any understanding of what made that scene so impactful. It's like this team is so creatively bankrupt they have to steal from the first arc because they can't do anything original on their own.
This is hard to read because it's downright embarrassing.

This is teleporting me back to being 14 on Feralheart, in a bad way. In a, "this is the character of a person who writes KILLS NO MISS unironically so we had to kick them after 3 warnings" way.
He could barely pull this move off on an untrained apprentice. Now he pulls it off on an adult warrior? An experienced one at that, since Harelight was an active fighter against the impostor, even fighting his own clanmates. And this was sooo fast that Harelight couldn't react and he's pinned and hes cut and he die.
I'm seeing a cursor just lift Splashtail up from the stump and smashing him into Harelight repeatedly. No wonder they've been avoiding fight scenes for 6 books, if they're THIS bad at writing them

Splashtail went from 0 to Clear Sky in a nanosecond. JESUS christ. His last appearance was just picking a deputy and being disturbed about Frostpaw catching him in a lie

sometimes I see people talk about dotc or the current arc. and then I look at your blog and the experts you post and it's like. are these people reading the same books as you?? it's BAFFLING that people can do "erm no!! Gray Wing isn't a bootlicker to his brother! and his relationship with Turtle Tail was so cute!" and then they post a passage supposedly proving their point and it's like. am I missing something. because this is just misogyny.
The "Gray Wing Isn't A Bootlicker :((" stuff gets me the most because like... nearly every single chapter that is in Gray Wing's POV contains some kind of moment where he's whining about how surely his Dear Sweet Brother must think he's doing the right thing, or musing about how desperately he loves and misses him, or rallying a bunch of cats to go provide physical aid in some way.
So when someone supposedly brings up some kind of passage that PROVES he's not obscenely obsessed with his brother, and that the two times he attacked him (and promptly got his ass kicked) mean the 9000 billion OTHER times he was his desperate defender don't matter, it's insane.
Even better is when they post passages from Bumble's death which are just. blatantly and obviously Gray Wing downplaying his brother's actions. the word "desperate" is used, he leaps in front of the angry crowd so clear sky can leave unscathed, and weeps that hurting his dear brother would make them all Just As Bad.
Anyway all that aside... I have NO idea what books they're reading. It cannot be the ones I went through.

i truly hate the whole "atheism means morally corrupt" thang this arc especially has pushed, especially since i think itd be hella interesting for splashtail to be *very* spiritual, him thinking hes entitled to his nine lives, but him being an 'ends justify the means' guy so he thinks that hes allowed to get away with horrible shit bc hes doing it in the name of starclan
i need someone on the erin team to not think with their buttcheeks im begging on my hands and knees bc this plot was SO GOOD. until they threw this at us
For a brief moment, I thought something cool could come out of him not being particularly spiritual. The idea that he's unwilling to be a hypocrite, that he hated StarClan and thus was making a vow to not take the extra lives was interesting. Not in the sense that being a Godless Bloodlusting Heathen makes him a scarier villain, but that he had principles he cared about!
It would have made it more interesting to see him start to break down. That he could have started off with values-- "Curlfeather made me kill Reedwhisker; but I will only kill those who threaten my Clan. StarClan never helped me before; so they will not guide me now. I say that a leader only needs one life; so I will lead with only the one I was born with." and then break every single one as he clings to his power.
At first he doesn't want StarClan to guide them; until it's convenient for justifying his legitimacy. He doesn't want to kill needlessly; until someone is able to undermine his authority. He only needs the one life; until he's on the verge of death.
but no. Godless Heathen Bloodlust. we cant let a villain be interesting or anything

Change BACK?? WHAT DO YOU MEEAAN CHANGE BACK?!
These are PEOPLE not WEREWOLVES, they are not POSSESSED by the power of the nearest godless heathen, they are a pair of assholes who just beat the shit out of a guy and menaced ThunderClan about it because they are xenophobic. These two supported Splashtail because they wanted the glory of their Clan back.
You know, BIGOTRY? Blind nationalism, even? That THING the writers seemed to understand when they wrote about BERRYHEART RADICALIZING SHADOWCLAN earlier in this arc??
A better world was a foolish dream

I got up to the Harelight murder stuff and... im done. I can't believe people are praising this. This is the dumbest shit I've read in WC in a long time.
The team managed to create an interesting dynamic between the mastermind schemer and her ambitious lackey usurper and just threw it away for yet another evil atheist murder-loving villain. They even seem to have hamfisted in a "parallel" to TigerClan so obvious and poorly thought out it's fucking embarrassing. There's no other word but cringe.

It might be because I’m exhausted but I enjoy the implication that the only thing separating better bones from canon is that the cats are trans. It’s the butterfly effect. One gib Gray Wing changes the course of history
The absolute POWER of the gender trinary. Gray Wing being 50% more honest about xeir gender leads to Bristlefrost throwing a fallen angel out of orbit <3

The bit about Frostpaw receiving a vision to save WindClan's nursery is actually one of the best plot points in the book. That's solid and has some really nice character moments.
Frostpaw getting this vision solidifies WindClan's support of her. Good way to move the plot along and an actually good move on StarClan's part.
The unlikeliness of the one nearby tree falling adds to that. I was iffy when I first heard the idea, but it was executed well!
Whistlepaw in general. Her bond to Frostpaw is fantastic, the characterization of her being so self-sacrificing she got injured to save her sister is amazing
"It was nothing." "IT WAS EVERYTHING!" is going to be a breakout line from this book and it deserves it.
I liked how the Clan admits to not believing the vision at first... until the thunder started rolling in. THEN they were like "well uh. C. Couldnt hurt to take preemptive measures" Lmao
Frostpaw getting a glimpse of RiverClan territory across the border is delicious. I like her being homesick-- tho I am still wary that she'll forgive the people too quickly.
One thing I'd change; I'd have Harestar muse "why did Kestrelflight not receive the vision..." and Kestrelflight stand up, bravely, and answer, "I had a lesson to learn. The branch, the storm, and Frostpaw herself were an omen meant for me-- that I must trust her."
Like, really drive home his devotion to StarClan and make his faith look so solid it's almost self-punishing. Let them be a little afraid of StarClan's wrath, even if it isn't actually because the ancestors are furious, y'know?
