I love how sam is immediately adopted as part of the cheering squad 😂 Im just imagining diego and Addie going 'one of us!! One of us!!! One of us!!!' At sam and just merges em into the group like theyve always belonged there 😭 I knew sam and diego would be instant besties!! I love G and Sam too!! Though I guess I didnt flirt enough with G to trigger any sort of jealousy between G and Sam. But its fine, Ive found that G as a platonic friend is also very sweet and I honestly kinda prefer it for my MC!! (Who will cry themself stupid when G has to leave 😔)
Speaking of jealousy, I absolutely LOVE Rayyan being sooo jealous the whole chapter lmaooo like yes bby frown those beautiful eyebrows... oh, MC is wearing someone else's last name to their first season debut???? G is not really the jealous type, but there is a difference in their reaction to Sam and MC if MC has been flirting with G... though the more pronounced reaction comes from Sam if MC flirts with G in front of them.
As for Rayyan... yes. They definitely are the competitive type, both when it comes to tennis and. Well. Romance.
Glad you enjoyed some of the interactions between the ROs/characters in the update, it was a lot of fun getting to write some of these dynamics after building up to them in earlier chapters. A personal fave was writing Tobin's locker room scenes, and G/Rayyan being soft, and Sam's reunion :)
Finally, I have lots of Sam/hallmate interactions planned for the weekend, so stay tuned for that!!

1. How many works do you have on Ao3? 474, with a lot of them being imported from the LiveJournal days (...and worse, a LOT that never made it because I don't want them under my current pseud).
2. What's your total Ao3 word count? 3,447,393. I'm a wordy bitch when I want to be. I was just saying that I've somehow gotten into this habit of thinking every fic I write has to be a minimum of 8k, even though my next fic that will go live will prob be 5kish (...and then something that will prob be around 12k).
3. What fandoms do you write for? Right now, Ted Lasso, Zukka, Raven Cycle (though I'm out of ideas, but may grab one of my miscellaneous for that), Old Guard, Roswell New Mexico (I'm coming back, bitches).

5. Do you respond to comments? Always. No matter what. It's a habit I got into and there's a bit of social anxiety I have around it, but I will always do it.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Probably The Time Traveling Pilot (Poe/Finn), which has some lovely bookmarks like, Fuck I'm crying, im absolutley fucking sobbing and my fave, I'll never be brave enough to read this fic again, but I'm so glad I read it once. And honestly? Fair. I sobbed a lot writing it.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Basically, 90% of my stuff? My habit tends to be super happy/fluffy stuff and then 10% of my stuff is meant to be angst that will destroy you (...there's a Zukka coming up that will reinforce that pattern)
8. Do you get hate on fics? I started to get a lot of it on Roswell fics for some really unfortunate reasons, and it actually pushed me to make my RNM fics AO3 users only :/
9. Do you write smut? Rarely these days, but only because the story doesn't feel like it needs it. I'll still write smut scenes if it feels right, but I've been living in more rom-com territory lately.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you have written? I don't do it as often, but I've done a couple! I did a Leverage x Hustle one, a Star Trek x Dead Like Me, and two whole stories for House MD x Doctor Who. I do it less often these days, but more because the ideas aren't there.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of? So, maybe? I haven't seen it though!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I've been super lucky to have a bunch of my fics translated!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? YES, and it's my FAVE THING, okay. Cowriters, come at me, I love it. I want more of it.
14. What's your all time favorite ship? My preferences are fleeting like the wind and my faves come and go and then resolidify, but I will say, lately it's starting to seem like Pynch might be the steadiest 'ship I've had in a while.
15. What is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? ...at this point, the Joe/Nicky Outlander Time Traveller's Old Guard, if only because it's a beast of a thing.
16. What are your writing strengths? I really like threading in the little bits of canon and getting as close to the voice and tone as possible. I'd say I've been most successful in some of my Ted Lasso stuff, but I like to be a mimic.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Prose. I'm not great at setting the scene and often my world-building is more characters and relationships than settings or scenarios. I've kind of let that atrophy over the years too.
18. Thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics? I used to do this a lot, if only because I speak enough French & Italian to get by, but in recent years, I've started just writing the phrase in English, italicizing, and indicating in the narrative that they're speaking another language, if only to get away from the footnotes or hovering.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Charmed, I think? Piper/Leo was def baby's first OTP.
20. Favorite fic you have written? I usually say Love Like The Sea (my Webgott), but today I'm going with Baby, I'm Howling For You, my Steve/Danny supernatural fic (and series) because it has the best worldbuilding I think I've ever done and I really enjoy the rules I set around that 'verse.

fic commentary/notes for the year you thought you were dying.
trying this thing where i do fic commentaries here instead of on dreamwidth since most of my recent dw posts will be private now.
influences:
there was this BL titled "my 40-year-old prostitute" in english or something like that that a mutual from twt recommended. look, it was good. im so fucking serious. the yaoi art was beautiful and sexy and it started out so well with compelling characters. but the translators ceased uploading translations by just chapter 2 in 2020 on [redacted] site. which effectively meant the premise never left me for months and i was so sad.
joke's on me tho all of this really became serious after i wrote tumblr ficlets of 1418 hooker au in response to some fun ask prompts in the summer, which are in my fic tag somewhere.
some quotes from more influences:

the essay "her thighs" is about lesbian power play and so influential to me. i think dorothy allison is a very powerful writer and i love her poetry.
this is an allison excerpt from jane ward's the tragedy of heterosexuality:
i kept this in mind too while i was writing manuela's short backstory.
the process:
i wanted crazy thangs with the structure. i wanted most of the sexual intimacy to be revealed much later to the reader, after we go through mostly the companionship aspect of the service -- which i realise now is not crazy but a boring approach and would really change the story so i didnt do it.
sex pollen fic done this way is my fave tho. helenish wrote this sga fic called This Gun for Hire with sex amnesia in it where everyone is in denial in the aftermath about the kind of sex that was repeatedly happening. there are other fic examples (can't quite remember or have bookmarked) where the denial and delusion is so completely off the charts with a character in trying to get through the aftermath of the event without a freaky sex trope involved.
so i wondered if i could pull off that kind of blurriness and denial in the structure for a character who KNOWS what is happening but thinks they're still straight and will die straight lmao. but fernando in this story is just jaded, retiring and isn't cripplingly repressive.
the notes from my word tracker doc that i had to do to be able to write long fic. i laugh at this every time:
my projected word count for this was 20k, which was so off lmfao.
i put off getting them to have sexy fun in italy at one point because i didn't know yet what emotional point they needed to get to and what grounds they'd be on then. i wrote a bit of a very different scene to lead up to it, but then scrapped it. and then i wrote the auction night and the morning-after scene. tension and conflict (without having to use miscommunication as the necessary crutch) is always one of my most favorite things to write about so i was so glad i got to this point LOL. the payoff of reaching a compromise and then an emotional release later is so rewarding to me! i love that shit
emotionally i just knew i needed it to be like the mindy nettifee poem i grabbed the fic title from.
figuring out how to write lance in this fic was really hard ngl since i went into the story almost blind. cofi made me realise this blind spot when i showed her an early wip and i was like hold awn.... if i wasn't sending @strulovic broken drafts and doing lanceology consultations with her, i wouldn't have gotten anywhere in the story.
alonso being a divorcee irl is so important to each and every one of my agendas thank god for the gay uncle. i did a lot of google searching to be able to write fernando's approach to sex and relationships outside of the job. i knew what i wanted to take away, like the difficulties with intimacy that former workers have had, and still have after the industry sometimes. fernando scrubbing his hands clean at lance's place after the auction despite not having sex with the auction client, his views on wanting the sex with his ex-wife and other exes to be "acceptable and proper" in contrast to whatever he's done for work, and how the internalised homophobia warps this for him while he tries to play the gentleman with lance in italy (and lance being able to read through him and understand that fernando DOES want to fuck him nasty ‼️ though lance doesn't understand the extent of fernando's issue with it). there are also accounts where sex work gave a worker the experience, space and autonomy they needed to slowly heal from prior traumatic and/or abusive experiences. the research was very interesting.
relied on music A LOT. an honorary ldr song [hears collective groaning] that didn't get included in the fic playlist was Love song. lance was in that passenger seat beside fernando in their sleek '67 restored fiat on the way to umbria wishing and wishing to get railed.
ALMOST FORGOT TO INCLUDE: ferrari to mclaren 2.0 fernando was the print here. he keeps the ferrari depression beard ofc.
truly not an overstatement, i think this fic was what made writing smth as long as this quite enjoyable and bearable for me. dare i say fun! haha

im personally very obsessed with on edge holy shit the emotions i felt reading that was honest to god so overwhelming like you checked off top 2 things i love reading: needy desperate pervy men and a taboo set up (aka the two recipes for the perfect fic idk thats me though 😇). im obsessed with everything you have under mark in general but on edge really grabbed me by the throat

Let's see... I'm like half convinced I saw a picture of Edmonds really stupid uniform (sorry nuc i cant take it seriously) in twitter which is when I took notice of it but I dont think I downloaded the game then... I faintly recall being like oh he which was Olivine like 'oh he looks nice' but didn't expect to really get into the game at all but boom Eiden drew me in pretty much immediately lol. Liked him from the start. Storywise speaking i think first chapter that i liked a lot was kuya's but i think the story didn't grab me until Garu's weirdly enough bc the dude's my least fave lol, Dante's chapter even more though.
Faves....Aside Eiden, Rei was just introduced but he's already a fave of mine, the pretty aloof personality (for now! he only met Eiden) paired with obvious underlying issues (reasons still a mystery) that he's got. Has a bit complicated relationship with sex where he seems to treat it more as a tool to achieve goals (get magical items etc, study essense... ) than something fun (to the point where he'll even go through unpleasant stuff for it) where its easy to see how Eiden will fit into that ! He's like this ....researcher type but his personality is very different from the usual archetype s so it's interesting for sure - ALSO FATHER IS REALLY CUTE It's still pretty interesting to see how it'll develop, I'm glad the main story's taking it's time with him bc i think nuc does a bit better when it slows things down rather than crams it up into one thing for sure. 'I've seen people complain about nothing happening these chapters but its like...time, atmosphere settling, wish the game did this more often. It doesn't work with events bc limited story space and all. His intimacy stories also expand on him pretty nice.
Kuya is other fave because apparently i like resident bastards but yeah, mr-im bored bc long life which is also why it's hard to open up. Youkai and humans also have a difficult relationship, have had for a long time so Eiden's attempts in patching things up piss him off a lot but also bring him that element of surprise he so enjoys when things dont go the way he expects - hope makes it painful when it goes wrong after all. I also like his dynamic with Eiden a lot - which is really just Eiden kinda trying to please him with best of his efforts. He finds it amusing ofc and with recent developments he even seems to like it when eiden just does his own thing - not that he'd admit - eiden 'owes' him so much now since he's let him close. He calls him a toy, it's amusing how he tries so much and brings so many surprises right.... It's cute dynamic.
Those two are pretty much faves but dynamicwise close come Dante, Quincy Olivine and Blade tho! I'm not running introduction on them though.
Dynamicswise... With Dante it's that fun bickering with Eiden but also the differences that flare things up, finding bridge between them and so on, I love his Kleinmas event intimacy story a lot. Also Olivine's got that fun serene horny vibes but also really calm, cute and sincere moments that also feel really fresh, I also love how he's just " : )" when eiden just horny stuff. It's actually cute.
Quincy too though, similar as with Kuya but also differently he's grown tired of the long life he's had but Eiden's opened him up and stuff. Also different (but not completely different) to kuya he likes when Eiden does his own thing, likes it when he's selfish too which balances out great since Eiden's very people pleaser type so that nice chill moments just work out very cute too.
I also like Eiden's dynamics with morvay though lmao fellow hornies exchanging tips with each other and stuff, it's fun.

as for which album got me into skz, i remember i listened to the whole noeasy album straight through and i was like wow this album was literally no skips for me, maybe i gotta learn more about them?? and now the rest is history hahahaha. i also just really love a lot of their title tracks especially the ones like all in, miroh, and gods menu that are so hype (i had the DDU DDU DDU DDU DDU DDU part stuck in my head a lot when i was listening to skz music nonstop 😂 love that part). it's funny because i remember i tried listening to some skz music when i got into kpop in 2020, and i was like idk if this is for me....and now almost 3 years later i'm like THIS IS MY TYPE OF MUSIC LOL i love the noise music <3

MAAAARK IS MY BELOVED I LOVE HIM :(((( i started off in kpop as an nct fan, and i have been slowly collecting more groups and i'm becoming a multi mess hahaha. besides nct and skz, i also like txt (soobin is my bias but i love all of the boys a lot <33 it was so hard to pick a bias); nine.i (a rookie group i discovered recently whose music IS SO GOOD??? one of their members produces the songs too i think and i highly recommend listening if you haven't heard of them - young boy and wasted youth are my favs but their whole discography is no skips for me); day6, p1h, svt, enhypen (in varying degrees of familiarity lol), and i also like kbands like xdh, nflying, the rose (i mostly listen to their songs and dont really know all their names but ONE DAY!). i'm mainly a bg stan, i dont have anything against ggs but i usually listen to their music and dont know their names lol (currently obsessed with stayc's songs). what groups do you like? :D
also im glad you enjoyed the lino fancams LOL (no shame here, i am the one who listed 12724 fancams after all jsahdfka) i love how he is so silly on stage and seems to truly enjoy it!! i always laugh at the thunderous fancams where his hand slowly slides down to changbins butt hahahaha. also i discovered this gods menu lino fancam today which i must share because it is insane and he went so hard especially in the chorus, i love how he really commits to all the moves and has so much power yet control in them. and yes, all his fits are amazing ugh he is sososo gorgeous

Helloooo!! I hope you are doing well!
I wanted to update you on my picnic date!!! So we went yesterday we drove to one of the fields not too far from my town. It was so cute we had a whole spread filled with each other’s faves and then he bought me flowers and I was so confused cause there’s only one florist in town and I work there 😭. Anyway it was all cute and then typical UK weather it starts chucking it down with rain. So we grabbed everything and raced back to the car. Then we put the backseats down and just sat and watched the rain and carried on eating.

And maybe she doesn’t realize it’s a big deal like she just wanted to get out of her uncomfy clothes and grabbed the first shirt she saw and threw it on. But like Harry turns around and sees her and his world stops for a sec. lol can you tell I’m a hopeless romantic?? “We can start in a bit, I just have to make a quick call to Jeff, is that alright?”
Harry keys the two of you into his house, heavy paper bags in both your hands and his as you just came back from grocery shopping. Tonight is date night, but after the long week you both had, you chose to just cook something together and then get lazy on the couch cuddled up with a good movie. It’s exactly what you need right now.
“Sure, take your time,” you smile back at him as the two of you walk into the kitchen, putting the bags to the counter. “I’ll unpack these in the meantime,” you offer, digging into the bags of goodies.
“Thank you, love,” he murmurs, pressing a kiss to the top of your head before making his way into his study to get over with anything work related as soon as possible so he can spend his time with you.
While he is on the phone in there, you softly hum to yourself, unpacking everything you bought, leaving what you’ll need for dinner on the counter and putting away the rest. You already know your way around Harry’s kitchen, you’ve spent a fair amount of time in his home since you’ve started dating just a few months ago. At first you felt hesitant whether the timing for the two of you to give it a shot is good, both of you driving a quite busy life lately, but at last you’re glad you listened to your heart. You’ve grown to love him more and faster than you ever thought and now you can’t even imagine your everydays without him.
When you’re done with the unpacking, Harry is still on the phone so you decide to start peeling the potatoes since there’s a good amount of that, Harry has been craving fries all day so you’re making that as a side. But before you could start working, you decide to make yourself comfier. Still wearing your dress from work today, you make your way into Harry’s closet, roaming through his simple t-shirts, grabbing one for yourself as well as one of his workout shorts before you strip yourself out of the tight dress and put on his clothes, allowing you to feel so much more comfortable and relaxed.
When you’re back in the kitchen you connect your phone to the Bluetooth speakers he keeps there, putting on some soft music as you start peeling the potatoes, taking your time, not wanting to get much ahead on your own, since the whole point of the evening is to cook together, something you’ve been doing a lot since you’ve started dating. In fact, on your very first date, instead of taking you out to some expensive restaurant he chose to make home-made tacos together and it was the most perfect first date you’ve ever been on.
On the other end of the house, Harry finally finishes up his call and puts his phone on do not disturb, not wanting anyone or anything to interrupt his time with his girlfriend before he makes his way out to the kitchen. He hears the music before he sees you moving around and a smile tugs on his pink lips how you’re listening to a country song again. You’ve shared with him your recent obsession with country music lately and how you always find yourself gravitating towards this genre whenever you’re listening to music.
As Harry approaches the kitchen you finally come into his view, standing with your back facing him as you gently sway your hips to the rhythm, humming to yourself while peeling the potatoes near the sink. Stopping in his tracks, he allows himself to adorn the sight of you, especially because he can feel his heart pitter-pattering in his chest when he realizes that you’ve changed out of your dress and put on some of his clothes.
The blue shirt hands loose around your frame, the hem reaching down to your mid-thigh, the seams on your shoulders falling way past where they usually do on his body. The workout shorts are baggy on you and though the shirt is covering your hips, he can tell you rolled down the waist of the shorts so they fit you just a tad bit better.
He is in love with this sight, his beautiful girlfriend in the peace of his home, wearing his clothes, ready to spend the rest of the evening together, talking it away about anything and everything, because that’s what usually happens. He loves hearing you tell him your opinion about anything, loves to know your thoughts and feelings, loves listening to your rambling about the things that interest you lately.
He just loves you and everything about you.
It’s not the first time he is seeing you wearing his clothes, it had happened several times when you were spending the night over at his place and after some mind-blowing sex you felt more comfortable in his clothes than your own, but every time it happened before you always asked, as if you didn’t have a right to just take whatever you want from him. In his book, everything he owns is already yours as well, nothing is borrowed anymore, but you haven’t gotten past the point where you don’t ask, but now it finally happened and Harry couldn’t be happier about it. It means that you’ve settled into the thought of the two of you being a full item, equals in a happy relationship.
Harry walks up behind you, his hands sliding around your waist and under the shirt so his palm is touching your bare stomach, his fingers playfully dancing on your naked skin. You smile to yourself, melting against his chest instantly, your bodies fitting together perfectly, like two puzzle pieces.
“Hey handsome, done with everything?” you ask, turning your head to the side so your lips could meet his in a short peck.
“Yeah. I’m all yours.”
“Mmm, finally,” you chuckle playfully, a giggle escaping your lips as he tickles you a little before his arms fall from around you.
Standing next to you he leans against the counter, taking another few moments to just watch and adorn you, his arms crossed on his chest as a small, content smirk tugs on his lips. You catch his gaze, but you have no idea why he is staring at you like that and you can’t help the nervous little giggle that falls from your lips.
“What is it?” you ask, bumping your hip against his playfully.
“Nothing, I just… I really love you, that’s it,” he shrugs and you feel the warmth hugging your chest at his words.
“And I love you too.” Dropping the peeled potato from your hands you lean closer and steal a kiss, leaning against him gently as his hands find your hips. “Do you mind taking care of the veggies?” you ask, smiling against his lips.
“Sure thing,” he nods, pecking you one last time before he gets down to work as well.

You’re buzzing with excitement throughout the entire thing, having forgotten that this was for the sake of promoting the movie you and Tartaglia star in. Now you’re just having fun showing off your dancing and lip syncing skills before the enthusiastic audience. In order to determine a winner, you and Tartaglia perform one song each and then a duet. The winner of the both performances is determined by how loud the crowd can cheer for either you or your costar. Even if you and Tartaglia are good friends, there is an air of competition between the both of you as you vie for the title of first place.
Tartaglia wins the first battle with ease, as the song he was meant to lip sync was ‘Sway’ by Michael Bublé. It’s obvious your song couldn’t live up to the attractive aura your fellow actor exudes. Throughout the entirety of the song, he’s glancing at you, making direct eye contact in such a sensual manner. The crowd eats it up as though it’s the last meal on Earth, savoring the odd, one-sided tension between the two of you. You know he’s just putting on an act to sell the movie and the character he plays, but it does put a smile on your face. Had it been anyone else, you might have gotten way too embarrassed to continue with your performance.
For the duet, the two of you lip sync ‘Love is an Open Door’ and you go above and beyond with your performance. Even Tartaglia gets lost in your movements and the clear happiness that rests on your face. He can’t help but smile as you lip sync and dance with him. There’s an upbeat playfulness to the song that has him beat. He can look sexy all he wants; nothing’s going to overcome how genuine you seem when you’re lip syncing your parts of the song. When the crowd cheers once it’s announced that you’ve won the duet based on their volume, he can’t help but grab your hand and raise it in excitement.
You're happy to have won, eagerly jumping from foot to foot as Tartaglia debates the urge to pick you up and spin you. Of course, even when you’re having fun, there has to be some sort of professionalism or else the tabloids will classify his every gesture incorrectly. So he resigns and opts to clap with the audience instead. And then it’s announced that there’s a tie and you and Tartaglia share a quick look of confusion.
It dissipates when he chuckles, an amused grin gracing his features. “In that case, why not let me perform again? I’m sure it’ll be another easy win.”
“You wish,” you reply with a smirk. “It’s not going to be that simple, Casanova.”
Your words prove to be true when the curtains part behind you, revealing someone you never thought you’d see in person. Sitting on a chair that looks more like a throne and dressed in an aesthetic that truly suits him is the man you’ve had a long-standing (it’s been about a few months, but that’s besides the point) rivalry with. And your jaw just drops while Tartaglia nearly doubles over in laughter.
Of course they’d bring him on as a surprise guest.
Scaramouche almost loses his confidence when he sees you and Tartaglia. The two of you feel intimidating and it isn’t because of the height differences. It’s just... This is the first time he’s actually seeing you in person and one of the first times he’s working with you. Well, it’s more like he’s working against you as the tie-breaker, but it’s still something!
He’s used to performing in front of crowds and this isn’t any different. It’s easy for him to swallow his emotions and face the situation in a competitive manner. While the host explains that you and Tartaglia will take turns lip syncing a duet with Scaramouche, his gaze is locked on you. You’re not as thorny as you seem online, having replaced your hate and biting remarks with an award-winning smile. He almost finds himself grinning, a direct result of your infectious personality, but he catches himself.
You’re up first and the song that you have to lip sync couldn’t be anymore perfect. It’s ‘Anything You Can Do’ from the musical Annie Get Your Gun.
“I hope you’re ready to lose, Scarymouche.”
“Hah.” His eyes narrow yet his heart races at the nickname. “You’d like that, wouldn’t you?”
You offer a vague shrug in reply and the music starts. Throughout the song, you and Scaramouche have an energy that’s undeniable. It’s such a distinct attraction from two opposing sides and the crowd goes wild during the performance. He’s definitely good at what he does; you’ll give him that. You bounce off of one another in a way that displays varying levels of tolerance, and at one point you even grab Scaramouche’s hands and spin him. He’s almost thrown off as you pull him into a dance, grinning at him with a teasing glint in your eyes.
He can’t believe you have this sort of effect on him. It’s maddening and he savors the moment. Your hands are soft and warm; your presence is inviting and happy. You’re just perfect. He finds himself falling for you even more.
The winner is so obvious even after you finish and Tartaglia goes about his lip sync battle with Scaramouche. You can already imagine what sort of hashtags are trending and what the fans are talking about, but it’s forgotten the minute you’re determined the winner. Tartaglia accepts the loss with grace, only pouting playfully as he feigns sadness.
As the crowd cheers and the host excitedly gives their input, you glance at Scaramouche and say, “Thanks for the win, Scary.”
He rolls his eyes. “Whatever. It’s better you than Tartaglia.” His eyes find yours and for a moment he’s compelled to ask if you’d want to get coffee sometime. Or maybe you’d want to hang out elsewhere. Or maybe—no. There’s nothing to your relationship. Nothing at all. “It still doesn’t mean I like you, loser.”
“And yet I’m standing here as a winner. Run back to your playground, okay? Those insults are better off there.”
He can’t think of a suitable comeback, nor does he want to. He almost tells you about the secret account he found—the one where you openly show your love and support for all sorts of celebrities. He’s read all of your posts, especially the ones about himself. But if he were to tell you that it would automatically give everything away and so he decides to keep his mouth shut. Scaramouche will observe from afar as he’s always done.
But it is nice to see you in person. He can’t deny that.
“Go choke on your words,” he mutters, arms crossed.
“With pleasure.”

ok i finished beyond light and wanna put some thoughts here about it while its on the mind. tldr destiny is simultaneously the stupidest game in the world and has moments that are really, really good
eramis is a hugely compelling character with a solid motivation, interesting backstory, and relates to the long running lore weve had about eliksni in absolutely FASCINATING ways. shes instantly one of my fave characters im incredibly compelled by her. they also say that she cant control the darkness because shes ‘too angry’ (?? what.)
given what we know about the darkness bc of 1. votd and 2. ikoras shredded notes, eramis being probably manipulated by the darkness (which. obviously so is the yw in this expansion) and 2. losing control of it explicitly because she couldnt move on from what happened to riis, eramis’ corruption is MUCH more compelling and complex. but in game theyre just like. oh she cant control it because shes evil. destiny. man come on
using darkness is a super fun way to tie new gameplay mechanics to plot, and make a much more concrete parallel between what the light and darkness can do (both being simplified as sources of power is fun) but they truly had some star wars level bullshit about how you control it. oh you can use it safely if its for a noble cause (eramis’ cause was noble). oh you can use it safely if youre strong enough (what???) oh you can use it safely if youre like a good enough person. its all vauge and kinda stupid.
AGAIN, in light of new lore, the idea that light and darkness can in fact be balanced and thats not a bad thing is an idea that works and is compelling (its not the same bullshit as ppl who talk about like ‘grey jedi’ like it does actually make sense). they just give the stupidest answers possible about how that works
actually i am really glad the exo stranger is here. i love her and im glad theyre in some way tying things back to d1 but it did also it still doesnt make sense. tbf none of the plot of this game ever does but whatever. if the black garden ties into shadowkeep (idk how i just know it does) shouldnt. they have put her there?? or made the vex more important here??? baffling. i am not immune to no time to explain though :(
exo stranger eris and drifter funniest group in the WORLD. i know they just grabbed the three characters that were loosely associated w darkness and gave very little info on how they teamed up or like. Why but good god if it isnt hilarious
destiny once again suffers from being an fps :/ girl you made a whole expansion that gives more information on the eliksni, shows them sympathetically in a lot of ways, and truly starts to develop them (more than they already were, which imho was a fair amount) and theyre STILL solely used as canon fodder. wheres that post about making faceless enemies and trying to give them a face lol bc i think of it all the time in this game
yes we did ALSO help save eliksni and maybe i would have felt different about this if i had been playing when this season had come out and had intereacted in any meaningful way with the eliksni in helm/in their city district but also. you know
once again i am saying that the vex are simultaneously the biggest actual existential threat in destiny and also the only enemy group that can truly actually be treated as faceless with no consequences, bc as far as we know they dont have a sense of self in the way we understand, which EVERY OTHER ENEMY GROUP (hive included!!!!) does. but what can you do.
i really like how little you see of the pyramid. also once again destiny environment design absolutely rules. braytech facilities riis-reborn and vex constructions all look so architechturally distinct, unique, interesting, and do a good job of storytelling from a visual perspective. europa is also absolutely GORGEOUS
i am for REALLLLLL worried about ghost. between darkness possessing him, the sheer amount that yw using darkness seems to legitimately terrify him, and also how he acts in wq im Concerned. last weeks strike being arms dealer and seeing how differently he acts in that era as compared to now is legit heartbreaking. also the sheer number of times is started quoting thin line out loud to myself directly after his lines about how scared he was of yw using darkness is UNREAL
i do genuinely think that this game is doing a good job of tying the specific ways that darkness is portrayed and comes up with the themes and lore about what it represents (mostly based on the shredded notes my beloved) and making that argument for what darkness is compelling. esp excited to see how thats executed in shadowkeep bc i think thats such a strong start for its introduction. like i truly can see how its connected and thats very fun
whole expansion being split between development for eliksni and exos (w bonus development for a d1 character) is so up my alley its unreal. enjoyed it overall but also good god destiny is a video game sometimes isnt it

oh ALSO. A blurb about Joshua being rushed to the ER and his gf being worried and coming to his aid and being there when he wakes up and he's all goofy from the meds and then starts crying? Crying Josh is my fave.
summary: josh was rushed to the hospital and afterwards he was still on pain meds and this version of josh was immaculate.
A/N: sorry I took a while to write this, hope this is familiar to what you wanted. also there might be some typos, I loved writing this so much! thank you so much for requesting!
You woke up to the sound of your phone ringing, at first you thought it was your alarm, but when you realized how late it was, you knew it was definitely not your alarm. As you picked up your phone, Laura, Josh's mom, had been calling you. You immediately picked up hoping everything was fine, or maybe something had happened to josh.
“Hey y/n im so sorry to bother you, but josh was feeling some pain and he’s gonna have an emergency surgery, i didn't know who else to call since his dad is off for work.” she said as you were getting ready while she was explaining what had happened to josh.
“Yeah okay, i'll be there in like 10 minutes,” you said as she agreed and you drove yourself to the hospital hoping that every was okay, i mean you two were only dating for a year, but it felt like you were teoghet for much longer, so things like these scared you. As you got to the hospital you got the room meeting his mom and hugging her.
“Hey, sorry the traffic was pretty terrible.” you said as she nodded.
“When is he getting surgery?” you asked as you both sat down looking at josh sleeping before his surgery.
“In a little, i'm really glad you're here, he was asking about you,” she said as you smiled and looked at him as his chest rose up and down.
“Yeah that's josh, but the good thing is that he had both of us here,” you said as she smiled and gave you another hug.
Just then the doctor walked in getting Josh prepped and you gave Josh a kiss on the hand and held his hand for a while before he left. His mom did the same, he was very lucky to have you two, he always reminded you two of it.
As you two waited you were hopeful that everything would go alright, like you predicted it did, you and his mom were happy the news all was left was for Josh to wake up.
They had warned you that he would wake up with meds so you were expecting a whole different Josh even though you and his mom went through some terrible waiting.
As you were sitting with his mom while he woke you were happy to see he was waking up earlier that he was supposed to.
“y/n...mom!” he said in a very childish tone. You giggled at how your boyfriend was with the pain meds. You had a whole conversation with josh about carrots...literally carrots. You loved pain med josh, another one of his characters, there nyquil josh, laughing gas josh, and now there was pain med josh.
“This hair is totally fake, my mom braids it so it comes out so curly.” he said as you giggled.
“Really now you're exposing your hair artist.” you said as he covered his mouth worried he would say more.
“No more rumours y/n, but you know ricky from that one show who looks like me?” he asked as you nodded knowing he was talking about HSMTMTS and he continued.
“Ricky is such a jerk, nini deserves better, she should have left her, man doesn't deserve her. Period photo.” he said as you were laughing at how he was even using references from tik tok.
“Chile anyways, also aj is so cute, and big red has game, he dropped his crown.” he said as he went on and on about his show and you loved how he didn't realize he was apart of it.
However this josh was so much different, he had seemed to forget you two were dating.
“Mom, i need to tell you a secret but you can't tell it to anyone, not even y/n” he said as you frowned and waved your hand up.
“Uh josh i'm right here, how are you gonna tell her?” you asked as he shushed you playfully and you gigiled.
“Just go on the corner, ittl be quick like spaghetti going through my mouth.” he said as you giggled even more. So you did what you were told and went to a corner pretending you couldn't hear him.
“Okay mom, come here….so i like her, but she probably doesn't like me, should i ask her out, you know just got for it.” he said as you giggled and his mom agreed with him.
“You should ask her out josh.” she said as josh had psst at you wanting you to come over to him.
“Can i come back now?” you asked as Josh nodded and wanted you to hurry over to him. As you sat there across from him he had grabbed your hand.
“Okay okay, so do you wanna be my girlfriend.” he said as you gasped to play along with him.
“Josh, i have a boyfriend.” you said as you could see he grew sad, which hurt you.
“Dang it mom she has a boyfriend you didn't tell me, well i missed my chance but i still want you to be my friend please.” he said as tears flew out of his eyes and he grabbed your hand as you nodded.
“Josh, honey hold one, let her talk.” she said as he looked back at you and you smiled at him while you placed his hair back.
“Josh you're my boyfriend silly.” you said as it took him a while to fully understand you, then he gasped.
“Really? You better not be joshing with me, pun intended.” he said as you fully didn't understand his pun but you nodded anyway.
“I'm not joshing you.” you said as he did a little victory punch.
Oh how much you were gonna miss pain med josh, he was honestly your favorite one out of all the josh’s on some sort of medicine. The sad part was he never remembered the silly things he did while being on them, but those were your memories of him to keep and later tell to all your friends and family when the time came. You would take all of Josh even pain med josh.
