oh my god vi it was so so fun!! theyre all so so amazing and im so happy that i was able to watch them all!!

the gates were opened at 5:30 but the show didnt start until 7 which was such a good thing because me and my friend got there late LMAO the concert ended past 11 (the bands came out to talk to fans but me and my friend couldnt even stay bc the parking lot gates were set to lock by 11:30. god im so sad abt missing it out)

caskets opened the show! they played only seven songs though :( but thats oki!! i kept singing while filming so i probably only have about three videos where u cant hear me which sucks asss bc i really wanted to share their performance to u guys!! LIKE i cant comprehend how they sound so beautiful live! especially their screaming parts because it just sounds a lot cleaner and crisp than the studio version!! they're touring with set it off (the main band) so not a lot of people knew caskets but it made so so happy to see them be received with such enthusiasm too bc they deserve the hype!!!

deathbyromy WERE SO COOL i was having a massive bi panic because theyre ALL SO GORGEOUS (from the singer to the drummer!!) the lead guitarist had me and my bestie grasping each other bc her aura was just so... attractive? AND THEIR SONGS I LOVE THEM SM!! there was one song where romy introduced as "this is for my piece of shit of ex-boyfriend" or smthn like that and god shes just so iconic

crown the empire had me so hyped! i only know some of their songs but im glad that they played some of the ones i knew (black sheep, in another life, and superstar)!! they had to pause real quick bc there was an incident in the pit, and andrew (vocalist) took care of the situation so fast that it was cleared within three minutes. his screams are soooo crisp. i kept taking my concert earplugs off bc i wanted to hear it better, and goddd didnt disappoint for real

set it off were drop dead amazing! their stage setup, intro, and performance was just done so amazingly!! the theatre was shaking because of how much hyped people were and honestly who can blame them?? those random guitar riffs and drum grooves were so satisfying to hear live!! cody (vocalist) crowd surfed with an actual inflatable (I GOT A VIDEO) and it's so funny bc he slipped the first dive then later it just became so so cool!! they played a medley of ten songs it was soooo sick bc they blended so well but also u just know when one song starts and when one ends. GOD IM JUST AMAZED

IT WAS SO SO WORTH IT!! i've booked the tickets back in feb so im ngl this concert was all what held me together and im glad to have enjoyed every moment of it even when i didnt know all of the songs played!!

GOD IM SORRY I RAMBLED AGAIN HIEHFWD im just so !!!!!! happy

Inspired by @getmean, i did a little writeup of the books i read in 2023, and a little blurb about my thoughts! read 37 total, which isn't bad considering how busy it was, this past autumn especially.

organized roughly by genre because i thought the breakdown of what kinds of things i ended up reading was interesting, and marked my faves of the year with *s!

Novels

Altered Carbon by Richard K. Morgan

Did not start strong in this category, this book was truly awful. Like, I wanted to be able to just turn my brain off and at least enjoy a fun sci fi adventure but it was like. God. the worst parts of detective/noir novels and the worst parts of sci fi bound together by an interesting concept that the author had no idea how to handle. Im getting mad about this book again just thinking about it

Gingerbread by Helen Oyeyemi

Really really liked this! I love Oyeyemi’s prose and the way her writing always feels surprising. Read this in a group, with people who didn’t really enjoy it, which was unfortunate, but it compelled me a lot! I think i liked White is For Witching better, but still a really lovely interesting story

*The Dazzle of Day by Molly Gloss

This was probably my favorite new book of the year, and it came as a total surprise! Picked it up on a whim at a used bookstore and didn’t actually expect much of it, but was actually stunning. Super super highly recommend for anyone who likes sci-fi and thought experiments and the mundane realities and sacrifices of creating a livable future for everyone. It reminded me of The Dispossessed but like, a lot tighter and with characters who felt more distinct. Which is high praise because i fucking love The Dispossessed. Ursula Le Guin stans read immediately

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

Soooo good, soso good. I was skeptical at first because like. A whole book where you never hear from the same character more than once is a very tough sell. Each chapter is from a different character’s POV, displaced in both time and space from one another, but Gyasi weaves the stories together so well, I felt newly invested in both the collective tale being told and the new people we were meeting every chapter. Another absolute banger

*The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin

This was a reread, because I assigned it to my students and wanted to get it fresh in my mind before discussing in class. Tearing my hair out, collapsing to the floor in tears, etc etc etc. Book of all time forever

Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng

This one was a shocking disappointment! I absolutely love Celeste Ng’s other work but this one fell so flat. I’m not sure if it’s because she felt uncomfortable writing a child’s POV—but that wasn’t the problem, because the chapters from the Mom’s POV were just as flat—or if she was feeling self-conscious about the fact that it was speculative fiction (despite not being marketed that way at all) or if this was just a COVID project that got pushed into the world before it was ready… I’m really not sure what happened here, but again, conceptually interesting, but so unexciting in execution. Not enough to rattle my faith in her though, I’ll be back again next time Ms. Ng…Everything I Never Told You really was just that good

We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson

Glad to have finally read this one! One of those books i’d always meant to read and expected i’d like but just never got around to until now. And I did! Love a story where the house is haunted by the people who live in it, love fucked up sibling relationships, love a child with murder on the mind. I kept expecting it to like. Do a little more with the conversation about class and historical power. But maybe that’s just because i’d read White is For Witching recently

Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica

Thought I’d like this one more than I did, but it wasn’t bad. There were parts where the metaphor really started to get muddled in a way that uh. Felt like it undercut the more interesting parts of the story. Like yes cannibalism is imperialist capitalism, but also it’s maybe factory farming? Which is a less interesting way of framing things? Imo? Also the actual descriptions were so visceral I kept getting queasy and having to set the book down, which doesn’t usually happen for me with books. So sign of effective prose I guess! But ultimately it didn’t feel like it was for me

Monkey King by Wu Cheng'en

WOOOHOOOO SUN WUKONG, EVERYBODY GIVE IT UP FOR SUN WUKONG

Signal Fires by Dani Shapiro

This one reminded me of Our Missing Hearts in a lot of ways, primarily that a) it felt like it was trying harder to be Important than to be complex and interesting, and b) it features a child narrator who Does Not sound convincingly like a child. It was fine tho, read it with my mom because it’s her favorite author, so that was kinda nice!

Nevada by Imogen Binnie

I always have a hard time with Coming Of Age In The Big City books, even and especially queer ones, but I did kinda like that this one felt So aimless and frustrated. I’m not sure if that was the author’s intention, as I think it was written as sort of autofiction, but I was compelled by how completely misguided the main character is, while still being sympathetic. Like you can watch her thought patterns taking her the wrong way realtime and still understand why they went there, and clearly see the core problem she’s avoiding, with it still being believable that she wouldn’t be able to see it. I like a character who has no clue what’s going on, what can I say! Unfortunately I’d also just read Zami which made this book feel lesser by comparison, but that’s not Nevada’s fault. I cannot hold it against Imogen Binnie for not being Audre Lorde lol

*The Baron in the Trees by Italo Calvino

This was the year of finally reading books that have been on my shelf for years!! Really liked this one a lot. It has a lot of the best parts of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s storytelling, with a bit of a thicker layer of realism, which sometimes serves it, sometimes doesn’t. Delightful overall, definitely a fave of the year! Favorite part though was reading this book with a friend who, when we met to discuss it, opened with “okay i didn’t actually expect this guy to spend the WHOLE time in the trees”

Orlando by Virginia Woolf

I happened to be reading this at the same time as Baron in the Trees, and i felt like the two resonated across each other in really interesting ways! I love when that happens, and it happened a few times this year, which was exciting. Woolf is always doing the most, of course, but a lot of the emotional landscape of the story really stuck with me, as well as the meditations on “what is art and the pursuit of creative fulfillment for, anyway?” Me too, Orlando, me too

The Employees by Olga Ravn

Really interesting little book! Never would have heard of it if it wasn’t for a friend from grad school, but i really liked the structure of it and the way it used lots of different voices without having to necessarily make characters out of any of them

The Tale of the Unknown Island by José Saramago

Not sure if this can really be classified as a novella as I think it’s like less than 5,000 words long, but i bought it as a book, so a book it shall be! Lovely little parable and a strange moment in time captured on the page!

*Present Tense Machine by Gunnhild Øyehaug

Another total surprise picked up at random from a used bookstore! I thought the cover looked interesting and the book was too! This is like. The platonic ideal of a novella. Not too high concept, doesn’t work too hard to explain itself, but includes enough additional detail and character to allow the ideas to resonate further than it would have as a short story. Seriously, go read this is so good

The Strange Library by Haruki Murakami

We love a strange library! We also love an artbook! Honestly the design of the book was more compelling to me than the story itself, but it was a nice book to sit with for an afternoon and let yourself settle into the world of it

The Hole by Hiroko Oyamada

Ohhhh the tension and tone of this one is so well done…I know some people who felt like it was too slow and never got around to anywhere in particular, but I felt like the feeling it evoked while leading us by the hand was so clear and so unsettling it was worth it. It felt like the feeling was the goal, the suffocating, dead-end feeling of being locked out of the world by the expectations of motherhood and wifehood and the way suburban survival exists only to perpetuate itself…it’s good, it’s really good!!!

Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel García Márquez

Marquez is so good every time always. Another really excellent use of the novella form, telling a really dense story that feels like it’s meandering while actually packing in so many essential details. We’re running really hard in circles in a field and marquez is dragging us along and it feels like what the goddamn hell are we doing, what are we running towards is this anything or am i just being taken on a little adventure for no reason. Then you stop and look down and realize you’ve trampled the corn stalks down in a perfect fibonacci spiral that points neatly toward the solution. Or something.

Permutations Among the Nightingales and The Gioconda Smile by Aldous Huxley

Combining these two because I don’t have too much to say about either and they both came from the same collection. I liked Permutations a lot better than Gioconda because cyclic story structures always scratch my brain, but neither were too compelling. I’m beginning to think i just dont like Aldous Huxley

What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher

Hmmmm I feel like…there is a certain kind of smug, sweetiepie speculative fiction that no one acknowledges as a particular movement in the genre, but that is really notably There and that Doesn’t Work For Me. Okay that sounds really mean. I didn’t hate this book! It just felt very self conscious about its project of like. “Queering the gothic.” And ended up feeling very sanitized and boring as a result. I don’t know, I felt about this book similarly to how I felt about Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers. Like, the Concept is good in theory, but it’s expected to do way too much heavy lifting in a story that, ultimately, feels more self-congratulatory than complicated or engaging. I don’t know how to explain it, but it feels like a story that was solved before the author sat down to write it. Not objectively bad by any means but just wasn’t for me

The Willows by Algernon Blackwood

Another instance of finally reading stuff I’d always meant to read! I know this story is often cited as the kind of “original” weird fiction/cosmic horror, so it was interesting to see how that played out. Definitely not quite either of those genres as I know them today, but there was still a subtlety to it that felt really satisfying. It was good! I’m glad people have drawn from it and written even better stories in its style! I can definitely see the way stories like Annihilation have roots (lol) in this story

*So Long Been Dreaming edited by Nalo Hopkinson

I often tend to meander through and not finish fiction anthologies, which is weird because i love short stories, but I almost always gravitate toward single-author collections and lit mags when I want them. But I’m really glad I finished this, because almost every story in it was excellent! I really love Nalo Hopkinson’s writing, so it was fascinating seeing her editing sensibilities at work

Fruiting Bodies by Kathryn Harlan

Just okay! Had some winners and some losers, as all collections do, but pretty much puttered along at a solid “fine” throughout. Nothing really stood out as particularly bad or particularly good, which is a shame because it seemed like exactly the kind of thing I’d be into. The title story was probably my favorite, but other than that, I honestly don’t even remember most of them

Afterglow edited by Grist

Another anthology, this one that I picked up because it had a cool cover and compelling premise (sci-fi climate optimism). Unfortunately most of the stories had the same sort of smug self assuredness that i disliked in “What Moves The Dead.” I’ve ranted about this at length but i always have mixed feelings about cli-fi, especially the subgenre of climate optimism. A story that has its tone and outcome so neatly pre-determined by definition has to work pretty hard to do anything unexpected, and most of these did not, HOWEVER, there were two standout stories I loved so much they made the whole collection feel worth it. Everyone read “The Secrets of the Last Greenland Shark” by Mike McClelland and “Broken from the Colony” by Ada M. Patterson!!!

Milk Blood Heat by Dantiel W. Moniz

A pretty solid collection that, again, didn’t have too many stories that really stuck out, though, again, the title story was the most memorable and it lingered with me much more closely than Fruiting Bodies

Tranny by Laura Jane Grace

Yayyyy, Laura Jane Grace! I always see that quote from this book going around Tumblr and wanted to read it myself. I liked it a lot! It also got me to listen to more Against Me! because I’d really only listened to Transgender Dysphoria Blues before this. Which has been delightful!

*Zami by Audre Lorde

Major standout of the year, even though it took me a long time to read the whole thing. Each chapter is such a perfectly crafted, bite sized piece that I was just kind of meandering through one or two at a time, turning them over in my head as i went. I also read it right before reading Nevada, so unfortunately I already had the perfect Lesbian Coming Of Age In New York book on the mind that i couldn’t help comparing it to. We all know Audre Lorde is amazing, but this book is really truly gorgeous

A Small Place by Jamaica Kincaid

Not sure where to classify this lil book honestly, as it fits here, and under novella, and under nonfiction topic, but it felt like there was a core of memoir there that stood out as i read. Another book i bought years ago and only just got around to reading, but it was extremely vivid, i love Kincaid’s voice

Whewwwww this book was a lot. It is as good as everyone says it is but definitely hard to read at times. Not much to say other than it’s definitely worth reading

Six Memos for the Next Millennium by Italo Calvino

Love the ideas in here, but imagine it would have been a lot more engaging to listen to them as lectures than to read them all together. Love Calvino but he does tend toward the abstract, and these were a bit dry. Got me thinking about a lot of literary goals and challenges though, which was interesting

*A Swim in a Pond in the Rain by George Saunders

I liked this a lot! I tend to avoid “writing advice” type books because they’re so often preachy and not useful, but i really liked the format of this as a breakdown of what’s working in each of these stories and why. I also haven’t read many of The Russian Greats, but really enjoyed most of these ones he selected! My main takeaway is that Checkov kinda rules and Tolstoy kinda sucks. And i stand by that

Under a White Sky by Elizabeth Kolbert

Interesting collection of essays about climate change! It definitely had the journalist’s stink of “neutrality” at times, but gave some really fascinating accounts of people doing cool things in the climate change world. I really don’t read much nonfiction like this, so it was refreshing and informative and i learned a lot about carp

*Ezili's Mirrors by Omise'eke Natasha Tinsley

Okay so i really love Theory, but I never read it outside of class. I guess i always worried i would feel too lost without being able to check in with all the PhD people who are more versed in academese, but i decided to give it a go and i’m really glad i did, because i absolutely love this book. Such a fascinating mix of theory (she does open the book by saying “don’t read this as a book of theory” but like. Yeah there’s theory in here) and lived experience and history and mythology and storytelling and the myriad ways that gender is a story we tell and a story that’s inscribed onto us and a reality written by histories of colonialism and survival pushed into shape by self-expression and community……i liked it a lot!!! And if you’re interested in learning about anti-colonialism and gender, you’ll like it too!

Got this after dropping in on a panel by Shobo and Shof Coker at Emerald City Comic Con! Loved the way they talked about creating this world and you could really feel how much detail and care went into every part of it. Enjoyed it a lot, I hope to read more from them!

The Harrowing of Hell by Evan Dahm

Evan Dahm!!! My beloved Evan Dahm!!! He is always at comic cons and I was so obsessed with Rice Boy as a teen, I’m always a little starstruck by the fact that i can just walk up to his booth and talk to him lol. But I did and bought this book from him, and got it signed even! This book is so fucking cool and moody and manages to make it a story about Jesus in hell without it being. You know. The way it could be with that as the subject. Just a genuinely compelling treatment of Jesus as a character and person, with very cool art too. I also read it while i was listening to Unreal Unearth which i know is extremely. Uh. i don’t even know. Baby’s first Dante’s Inferno. But it absolutely contributed to the vibe and made it a great summer evening activity

2. oh god okay Madara - i actually cant pick between him and kaoru sometimes so these two are interchangeable. i think madara's like the most interesting character ever, theres something wrong with him BUT it isnt in the way that /he/ thinks. he isnt a monster and i think he deserves to be held gently. also he needs to wear a wedding dress and more flowy sleeves in my opinion he's sooo pretty he's beautiful he's gorgeous. his whole outlook on religion being disdain and sorrow is understandable, i think the conversation with kanata where kanata says "you cant say such things, you need to respect it even if it isnt real. because it's real to them" - i think it's a little profound. he doesnt wanna respect something predatory and dangerous and life threatening, not to mention the worst thing of all, it hurt KANATA. which madara will never forgivw or respect. fuck you fish cult

4. chiaki - sweetie lovely "only enstars character with morals" my wonderful little hero boy, i dont think i need any justification if you dont like chiaki i don't trust you /j. he makes me feel so many emotions, i think everything he's done is so impressive because at a point he was Terrified that he couldn't do anything that he reeeaaally wanted to do. but he got there, eventually. scrimbly of a guy, he's so silly i totally believe he ends up in the hospital every month and kanata scolds him for it . and kaoru tsks at him for it and they both love him this is what i'm saying. ryuseitai as a unit are here too because i adore them all with my entire heart

5. rinne - never thought he'd be here but i'm also glad he is despite his attitude flaws. he's a bitch and i love him!! he's fucking ridiculous sometimes like i love that it's canon he's pretended to be walking a runway because of his FS outfit. also his ways of getting things to work, while insane and good god why would you do that, it makes him so interesting. i cant believe this man exists in the enstars universe he's like an anomaly to me (oh did i mention he also has the "im not human" issue? all of my blorbos are ill) he's pretty. dont tell him that. or do, see what happens he probably needs to hear it. he feels he's disappointed hiiro already and so he avoids him which also makes me unbelievably sad. please hug your little brother he misses you. i promise you didn't disappoint anyone!!!

6. izumi - i joke that he's my problematic fav but i think what happened here is he has the perfectionism illness that leads to self destruction and mean approach to loving others. and i understand this on a level due to people in my life, i think he deserves a caring hand and should also get shoved a couple times. like once a year. i got obsessed with ironic blue and i Never went back im not sorry. ALSO HE'S SO EASY TO BOTHER i think kaoru should challenge him to more shit it's incredibly entertaining, those two <3 there's something wrong with him and He knows it and Everyone knows it, No One here is acknowledging it though!

7. kohaku - I LOVE KOHAKU he's so funny he's like an oddball but isnt an oddball and it's because he fucking grew up on the internet! i love that he treats his 2 units like a day and night job umm DOES HE EVER SLEEP? dear enstars dear cospro, he's 15 that isn't healthy. he makes me sad because he's still a kid and will continue to sorta be a kid because of growing up in such a Way. being locked away by your assassin family cannot do anything good for your mental health. i'm glad he has companions though, and i'm sure he at least has fun in idol stuff. how the fuck does he deal with rinne AND madara daily? i think i'd die. dealing with them in my head is already a nightmare sometimes /affection

8. keito - picking these is not difficult actually im having fun. KEITO HASUMI'S MY POOR LITTLE MEOW MEOW dear god i look at him in any given moment and go Awwwww........ 😰 i love him so much. how can you be so stuck up yet So prone to causing problems. it's so fucking funny he's a little embarrassing and i think is very easy to mess with. madara says he's taking kuro away to be a solo unit and keito flips his shit he feels SO betrayed, this poor guy. i would say he's gullible, but that one's more on the sense of He doesnt trust madara at all and can totally envision that being the truth, hey madara at least one person thinks youre capable!! <3 keito's so normal and so very unhinged all at once, i love his glasses and his intertwining story with eichi and rei, i love his unit. akatsuki my beloveds i really like all 3 of them dearly

9. ritsu - oh ritsu dear ritsu you make me so sad i dont know what to do with myself. he can't stand change because it feels like loss to him, cough cough thisll happen when your brother is gone cough, but his home in knights is everything. he's sooo smart and i love when he's content and happy. just chilling out, he deserves it and i think him sharing that with others is really sweet. i think ritsu should take more shared naps with people, all of knights should nap more!! especially tsukasa. him and mao are insane to me i havent looked into them too much so you arent getting analysis, but mao's very obviously important to him

10. natsume - i love this witch boy with all my heart, probably just as much as i love the transmasc hc for him. i think he's a fucking genius, i think he's gonna dominate the world with his powers, i think he's insane but he's too little to be scary. also war era makes me Cry, the other oddballs were protecting him from as much of the evil as possible, sobs weeps hits the pavement. switch are very important to me.. i Love natsume's design they outdid themselves when creating him, coolest hair Ever..i think he should've had fangs though. I kinda in the "recovery mood" so im not that active rn on internet, but this fucking cut-part storyboard (and Yang buff arms...for getting a little bit meat on Yang's arms and ponytail back i need to also get her extra tits size and ugly outfit...i cant have shit in this house without sacrificing something or make something already bad even MORE bad) got into my recommendations on yt and make me feel soooo much emotions that i need to rant into a wall.

LONG POST WARNING?

Before to start it i will honestly trying to tell what i kinda like.

+ Outside of making R/WBY feels like a fucking savers of this world, i kinda dig how sad and kinda depress this all feel at the start. This kinda stuff i want to see after vol8 - how everyone who survive is trying to live they new live and how second characters trying to hold everything together, but having a hard time. A grimm reality with almost no hope.

+ I kinda like how Winter VA was able to pull up her action? Like...i can hear that she was "grieving" a lost of her sister and that she dont feel like everything will going to be better.

+ WE STAN THIS ONE WOMAN WHO WAS TRYING TO DRAG SCHNEE. GOOD FOR HER, LET HER SPEAK!

+At least Winter remember about Penny...

And now EVERYTHING ELSE.

There is a thing - im fine with Winter and Qrow talking about in positive ways about R/WBY that they was trying to to everything that they can to save people. That they was a good huntress or something like that. They in grieving processe, "dont talk about the dead one in negative way", all that jazz. But everything that they talking about sounds like they was a new gods in this world. Like they the new savers of this world when...its not exactly true. The idea is there and this whole "you send the message to the world" can maybe works, but everything sound like they perfect people who save a whole world.

Hey guys! Are we going to...just ignore the fact that Salem now have a staff? Winter mention this but thats it. I dont know how many days its was, how hardcore we timeskip, but you telling me that Salem was just chilling in situation, when her enemy in the most vulnerable position and one of the main problem is no where to be found? Like...okay sure.

Even if i like this one lady who was calling out Schnees (again good for her, she have all right to talk like this with Willow)...i wish there was much more people who was disappointed or angry about Schnee or even angry about R/WBY. Just in general showing that people not only angry about that fact how hard they lives now but also trying to find the one who done this. Not everyone will be buss with trying to fix in what situation they are, somebody will trying to find who guilty. Its cant be the only one woman.

Okay...im maybe have a hard time to remember about vol8 and maybe i didnt rewatch vol7-8 in general that much and maybe its just me remembering things not correctly, but...is there was a whole problem to tell people the true about Salem? This whole "panic will bring grimm" thing? This was also a problem in the end of vol8 if i remember this correctly? Well, right now people not only know about Salem, but they also in extream situation with no homes, living in tents. There is no coming back to home, this is they lifes now. But no grimm problem in this epilogue. I dont even remember if Winter or Qrow mention about grimm?

Also about ignoring stuff - there is still some dead people outside of "dead R/WBY". I maybe miss something or didnt saw some detail but i dont remember some memorials for people who got kill by Cinder or solders who die protecting Atlas. I know Atlas in big mean place and "fuck military", but...they still trying to help?

There is this one moment with gravestone with "Dont Come Back", that Winter write on it. I know there is already two side of this thing (i dont believe anyone and AGAIN this whole miscommunication problem in team + both points is really fucking bad in different ways), but i just want to say that before jump into reading comments or what theory people have about this - i was having no clue what is this and for what was that. I know its storyboard and storyboards not always look with a lot of details, but i was so confuse for what this was done. Anyway, both points is bad and if Ironwood one thing is the real one - my fucking god can you stop having a beef with your own characters and remember that before Ironwood start to be cartoon man-man Winter was working with him for pretty long time?

Do you remember me talking about "both Winter and Qrow in grieving process"? Yeah i fucking lied, its only Winter. For some reasons they decide that the most depress man in this world, the most "I Am Shadow The Hedgehog" guy in the team (according to vol8) after loosing both his only nieces and a guy who was his kinda friend who help him in vol7 and the guy that YES was a antagonist for vol8, but from what i remember was also his kinda friend - absolutely positive! And not in the way that he trying to hold himself together mentally after loosing so many people all in short time, but just positive. Listen, i hate this whole "i wish Qrow was back to drinking", but this is the last guy who have to be THIS positive about everything. My guy can maybe not go into drinking speedrun for good reasons (like he dont want to drink anymore at least for his nieces or he just know that he will feel even worst if he will go drinking again, when he already have a hard time to hold himself together?), but this all feel so wrong and feel like he dont care about losing such a important people. (MY BIRDMAN YOU DESERVE BETTER ONES AGAIN)

YOU DO NOT BRING UP FAIRGAME INTO THIS. THIS IS NOT REAL. "The controversity is good" shit, can you leave FairGame shippers alone?

RAVEN IS THERE. I already knew that they will trying to redem her ass because she is a female villain in R/WBY and that scene from vol9, but...i have other questions. How...Yang is chill that Raven just...transporting them? How Ruby, who only a couple hours ago find out that her mother go on her last mission and that Raven is the one who was the last with her, is absolutely dont trying to do with her anything? How anyone is soooo chill that a bandit and maiden is there? If this was done only so RW/BY can got right to Qrow so we can have this whole...reuniting scene then WOW. There is a chance that this scene was done before they start to cut out two episode and start to working on crossover movie, but im not sure how those two episodes can fix this whole situation.

You know i maybe really touch-hungry person who love hugging, but...why nobody was trying to hug JR/WBY team after they got there? Like...Qrow is just looking at them like its norman friday after mission and the only one who at least react in some way was Nora (With a little bit Ren, Oscar have a strange reaction?). Like...you all was thinking for some time that those people is dead. You didnt know where are they, why nobody hug them or hold they hands or just in general dont trying to have a contact with them, like nobody have a "ARE YOU A REAL?" moments?

Just in general JR/WBY getting there feel...wrong? Like they teleport there and just...walk to look how this whole situation looking. Again, no hugs to Qrow or ORN, no bright reaction toward them? (i know, for R/WBY team its was maybe a couple days, you all was not sure if you even will get back to them. Also Jaune was in EA for 10-20 years. He didnt saw his team for 10-20 YEARS. Listen, im not the most biggest fan of him, but like...let at least him hug his team?). I get it when they didnt react at first, from what i can tell they didnt saw Qrow at first. But after they look at him or when ORN saw them? No? You can still end up this scene with Ruby face, i just feel like after Winter and Qrow speech such a emotions reaction can work pretty well as a ending. Like..."there is a struggle and hurt, but we dont give up" with "hope" coming back to them?

Im worry about Oscar that we ones again skip his character development off screen, but its hard to tell in 6 min long epilogue storyboard.

Still no moments with Maria and Pietro. I mix up this one old man (this one from vol8 that is also a faunus) with him and was question "why he is not in his spider-wheelchair?" but after re watching - there is just no Maria and Pietro. They still cant remember about them. They remember about Ace-Ops, Happy Huntresses (ALSO MAY IS THERE OOPS-), but fuck Pietro and Maria.

This whole thing in general didnt anser the most biggest question - how long its been after JR/WBY+Neo fell? This whole thing is not helping at all and no matter what time is canon - its will not save this moment. Its been a week/s? Qrow got from this really fucking fast and even this whole situations with people looking really too good actually. Its been a months (around 6+) or even a year? This is really bad.

ALSO something i find out only right now - MOTHERFUCKERS IS THERE. This is not...a bad thing, but now i knew that if vol10 will be a thing - they remember about both "sea boys" team and "READ A BOOK" team. Happy to see that they remember about the first one, but after finding our how "in book" team was written - im not ready to see Coco team AT ALL.

In term of fanservise, if we going to look at this from perspective of how a fan will react on this if its was a really epilogue that they didnt cut out - oh boy its working pretty fucking good and probably if this was the ending for vol9 - i feel like people would talk about this season a lot more because after the ending of vol9 even some of hardcore fans was not talking about this whole vol that much.

But in term of writing - THANK GOD THIS WAS DELETED. Sure its kinda emotional epilogue, that hitting fans in right place, but giving us pretty much moments thats dont need to be there or working not that great. I heard that they will try to make this into volume 10, which is....knowing how they dont like "kill they darling" or deleting content that they think is really cool or prioritise moments that have to be cut over moments that needed to be on screen...i have zero hopes that they will re-write this scene. Maybe they will delete Raven because right now with episodes that we got in vol9 she just...out of place there.

But we will see. There is still no greenlight info...

The alarm on mark's phone woke him up, slowly he started opening his eyes trying to adjust his vision to the light on the room that the opened blinds let pass.

He let out a sigh of disappointment, "why do i have to wake up when i was a having the best dream i had in a long time? damn! " he thought to himself, in a few words, he was having a wet dream, and what was so special about a simple wet dream? it was extremely realistic.

He woke up with a boner of course, so quickly he started touching himself taking advantage of the fresh feeling and images he was dreaming of just a few minutes ago but for his bad the images became blurry too fast "fuck, how is it possible that i forget this quickly?" he was trying so hard to remember the face of the person he was fucking, it was a girl he figured out, but he couldn't picture her face not even her body, he just remembered the sensations, he felt warm, he felt so much pleasure it was eyerolling and then, he started feeling weird a knot on his stomach started forming he felt that he was going to cry. A wave of sadness kicked him suddenly but that didn't feel like sadness, it was like something was missing? no. Like he missed something? maybe. He just stared at the wall dazed and then realized his hand was still on his dick already soft, turning like that back to reality "wtf just happened?" his face was a picture but he forgot about the emotions quickly, Mark couldn't control whatever the fuck thing that just happened that weirded him a lot " it was a pretty real dream maybe i got overwhelmed and is just that, but that was pretty fucking weird, im sorry little (but not that little) mark, we leave this for the next time... now I'm talking to my dick what is wrong with me?!" he shaked his head embarrassed of himself trying to take any weird thought out of his mind, too much for that day and he just woke up.

He headed directly to the bathroom to do his human needs and tidy up his face and hair but when he looked at the mirror he just wanted to clean Haechan's face with his fist. "Why the fuck do i have this?! are we back to doing high school jokes or what? cause' its not funny" He screamed while going to the living room he shared with his roommate and best friend, Lee Donghyuck or Haechan. When Hyuck looked at Mark he just burst a laugh to his face just making Mark more angry at him "Why the fuck do you have the word SLUT on your forehead? because it wasn't me" said while taking a sip of the coffee he was drinking while sitting on the couch. "And who could do it because im pretty sure only you and me live here" mark was really pissed off thing that was unusual in him but first his perfect dream was cut then the weird feelings and now Haechan being a kid, what a day and it didn't even started "Man, it wasn't me i promise if you didn't do it you're freaking me out"

Donghyuck talked honestly, of course Mark didn't believe it "oh my god i hate you" he said going back to the bathroom "i love you too" shouted Hyuck on response not even paying attention on Mark leaving and going back to watching TV and having breakfast.

Mark entered the bathroom and rolled his eyes at his reflection on the mirror then took a wipe and started rubbing it on his forehead

"Are you fucking kidding me?!" He yelled out loud "Of course you had to use permanent marker omg hyuck this doesn't come off you are soooo funny" he screamed making sure his friend heard the sarcasm on the phrase.

"I Know I'm funny but i didn't so it i swear" Hyuck showed up on the bathroom door "Oh, and be quick i have to take a pee" he said unconcerned about the situation, " I reaaally have to control myself to not kick your ass right now, i can't take this off Donghyuck"

Mark said pointing at his forehead, Hyuck laughed a little "Don't take it off it's kind of a warning to let people know who you truly are" You really could see smoke coming out of mark's head. He kept rubbing the tissue to his skin agressively but nothing happened "Yo, even if it's permanent it should come off, that's actually really weird Mark let me check" Mark accepted complaining "It was too hard to admit that you did it?" He said while haechan looket at Mark's forehead "Hey! i didn't say i did it. In fact this doesn't look like marker ink it actually looks like its marked on your skin, like a scar or something, but you have to look closely." Mark turned to the mirror really fast to see the bullshit Haechan was saying, really to his bad, it was true. They looked at each other in total confusion, Haechan wanted to laugh about it but he couldn't that was from another world. Mark felt a mess of emotions mostly anger, but this time wasn't like the event that happened the same morning, now these were his emotions, they made sense even though what just he, well, Haechan discovered didn't make any of it "Am i hounted? what does this fucking mean?! Why the fuck the word SLUT?!?!"

Hyuck was being so serious abot the demon thingy and Mark couldn't believe his very naive friend "Haechan you sound like the dumb people who believe in conspiracy theories and think the earth is flat" his friend closed his laptop and left it on the table on front of the couch then he let out a loud sigh as his body fell onto the backrest, he looked at Mark directly to the eyes "So what do you think that happened? any ideas of how you got slut tattoed on your forehead smart ass?" Mark looked at his friend spitefully and slowly denied with his head, Haechan smiled widely to that gesture "As I thought" he sat correctly again and went to open the laptop but Mark stopped him "I refuse to believe that demon shit, I'll figure it out myself don't worry" he got up and disappeared from the livingroom cutting off whatever his friend was about so say. Mark was upset and couldn't stop overthinking, he just sat on the edge of his bed looking to the floor creating scenarios about his life on now on where people found the strange mark on his forehead and laughed at him, making fun of him directly to his face being raw and mean, he would never be taken seriously again. "At least I can use makeup to cover it up, but i can't hide it forever".He shook his head trying to clear his mind and got up to go to the bathroom just to take a quick pee, he was careful not to look at his reflection on the mirror or he would probably cry at this point. He ended and headed out of the bath, but he couldn't resist to look at the mirror, you know, the more you tell yourself not to do it the more you want to do it. So of course he did. He ran to the livingroom where his friend was "HAECHAN IT'S GONE!!!" He had the widest smile he could ever give and felt like he could explode of joy, the problem that was going to ruin his entire life had been solved. Hyuck yelled with him as they got into an strong hug, Mark was almost jumping "What a pity it actually looked good on you" Donghyuck said teasingly "Shut up and let me enjoy the moment" Mark pushed his friend out of the hug and Haechan started to fake crying, Mark rolled his eyes "Demons or not it's gone and i don't have to worry about it" he maid a victory pose and then went to the kitchen realising he didn't even had breakfast, followed by his friend "I told you it was a demon" Haechan talked to him "I don't believe in that so i still think it's imposible" Mark replied "Then try to explain what happened" Hyuck challenged snd Mark sighed "I don't want to know! it's gone let's don't talk anymore about it" Mark was getting upset again "how can haechan be this annoying omg" he thought to himself

"Aha! that's because you don't want to admit that you actually think that it was a dem—" A phone ringing cut the boys' argue "thank god" Mark sighed, it was Donghyuck's, he took it out of his pocket and checked who it was but the number wasn't registered so he answered the call. "Hello, you are taking to Lee Donghyuck. who is it?" suddenly his voice sounded so serious that it was funny "Oh, hi! yes i didn't have your number registered..." Mark kept preparing his breakfast not putting much attention on the conversation Hyuck was having "I'll be there ,good bye" Haechan let out a hopeless scream and Mark laughed a bit "Who was it?" "My boss, I have to work tomorrow when it's my day off" and again he started with the fake crying "At least he pays you" Mark took a bite of the toast he just prepared "Yeah but it's like an especial event and party thingy so I'll have an stupid amount of work" He made a cutting throat sign very dramatically "occupational hazards" Mark shrugged his shoulders. He kept eating and watching Hyuck's performance until it was over "Before I forget it he wanted me to tell people so we can have as many clients as possible so you can come" "Cool, i'll tell Johnny" a party, a good party is what Mark needed the most right now.

moral of the story is i hope the fight next episode isn’t about seb being jealous bc there is so much more to talk about

It really really annoys me they put hawkeye as the last show !

Apart from fatws and hawkeye are the main one what I looked forward too when I heard the new shows comming out

Out of All the new marvel shows I'm gonna watch hawkeye as it actually airs I've been letting all the others air then binge it coz im not really bothered about those characters that much apart from fatws I binge fatws too I forgot how much I liked sam and bucky since I let that air and binged now I'm truly fucked I'm obsessed with fatws

I still can't believe they are not puttting hawkeye on after loki clint is one of the original 6 also extra bonus for me I wear hearing aids and clint is gonna be fucking deaf in the show I'm so gonna watch hawkeye as it airs the only new show I will be watching as it airs but have to damn wait for a show for a character I know nothing about ms marvel they should ofvput this one last

I feel you, honey, I feel you! I was happy when I heard that there'll be a Hawkeye show but when I saw the release date I thought it was a bad joke. Our Hawk-baby is always been the stepchild of the Avengers. It was that way in the movies, why should it be different with the shows?

I've watched the other shows. I've seen Tfatws, I've seen WandaVision (and I was pleasantly surprised about this one. It's way better than I expected AND a beloved character from one of the movies is in it and I missed her!!) and I'm currently watching Loki (and it's really good, too). The shows are good and I like the fact that there's more time for character development. It's not much, though, but more than in the movies.

I'm very excited about Hawkeye being deaf in the show because I know representation is soooo important and we need not-perfect superheroes. But in this case is Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan equally important because there aren't many muslim superheroes (afaik). So, yes, I'm gonna watch that one, too.

And then I will probably die when Hawkeye finally airs! 😂 But may I recommend you take a look at the comics? You won't be disappointed. 😉

How I felt about the Ducktales ending:

Okay first off, Ik I’m late! But oh well! XD

Anyway!!

I loved the finale, sorta! I loved the full circle moments, the callbacks! All the characters! Etc!

But what I didn’t love, was Webby being a clone!

And related to Scrooge, one of my friends explains it well, so you can go to Soph’s blog for that!

But like, this has nothing to do with shipping for me! Like, I didn’t think of that, not until someone brought it up!

The main thing that bothers me is that Webby was never real to begin with?!

Like, APRIL?! Yes you can have your opinion, but don’t bash on mine when I say that was a terrible move! Like, the fact she isn’t real is the main reason I’m upset!

Like, technically speaking, we never had a Webby to begin with if you really think about it!

Why couldn’t they have just kept Daisy’s nieces, as her actual neices, with nothing to do with Webby!

Not to mention a few things in the final weren’t fixed! Like Webby being upset with Lena, and not really getting a moment between Beakley and Webby.

I’m not mad, I’m just a bit disappointed I guess. Don’t get my wrong, I loved the finale, but the Webby parts of it made me sad for her, AND FOR HUEY!

Like, poor Huey guys! He really got played! Webby took over. I wanted a Webby season if there were to be a s4! Not like this! If no s4, don’t try to make the finale of Huey season, about Webby. Just don’t. It really wasn’t needed.

Anyway! Ik people will send me hate anons/ask becuz that’s how terrible this fandom is, so guess what, I’ll just delete those dang ask cuz I really don’t care about how much you hate me, cuz guess what, I bet you I hate me more then you hate me! a scene written in the discord monarchy au, with me and @littleundertaletrash (Trash) as characters. it is not proofread because I wrote it late at night and just wanted to finish before bed. and even now its 2am so im just copying and pasting it onto tumblr. enjoy.

Honestly, what did they take her for? Swinging her legs back and forth, Akira was starting to get a little bit fed up. Time was of essence to her, and frankly no matter the payment, waiting over an hour to meet someone was a bit ridiculous. They had asked to meet her, not the other way around. What the hell has them held up? Having people schedule meetings to hire her was not uncommon, but usually they had the decency to show up. With her skill level as an assassin, she tended to be in high demand, so keeping her waiting was just asking for someone else to snap her up with a higher price.

Well, apparently just leaving was considered "rude" and "reputation ruining", and her wife promised her dessert if she stayed the whole time, so Akira wouldn't be ditching quite yet. Although another hour and she'd be at her wits end. Finally, thank god, it seemed Miss Has Better Things To Do had arrived, or the so called "Trash". She couldn't say anything about the name, (even though personally she thought it was, pfft, trash), nearly everyone had an alias. Only the truly close exchanged real names, like her and her wife.

Akira snorted when Trash walked into the room. The mask was hilarious, and it looked like she was trying to be cool to overcompensate for something else. Maybe her horrible sense of time? Not that she was still stewing over the wait time.

"Wow, I'm impressed you actually showed up! I was starting to think you'd ditched me," Never mind, definitely still stewing over that.

Trash just hummed noncommittally and gestured for her to follow, likely to a meeting room. Definitely playing at being overly edgy. People like this usually pissed her off, and it still did, but Trash was a faction leader, and likely very, very rich. Another reason not to loose her temper or ditch. This was also the first job she hadn't brought her wife to. They'd both agreed that a leader could be playing a trap, considering they had at some point definitely killed people on her side. If Akira died here today, her wife would be swift in making sure Trash's rule was tarnished. Permanently.

They reached the meeting room and she had to say, she was impressed. A large glass table sat in the middle, emitting a faintly blue glow. The walls were a deeper blue, while the floor a nice cream. At least Trash had some taste. It was still taking all of her will to not rip that mask off of her face, though. Sitting down, Akira stared into the emotionless face across the table. Jeez, she really was one of those types. Her charms rarely worked on the near emotionless, so she'd likely have to be on her best behavior instead. Tsk.

"Calm yourself. We'll get to that. I first want to know your success rate, and the weapons you use," Trash wasn't looking directly at her, almost like she was being dismissed. Okay, Akira would admit that she'd have to switch to "best behavior" mode. What an annoyance.

"Soooo, obviously you want to hire me. That's cool 'n all. I just want to know what you're paying," She started off, yawning. Okay, that was maybe a little, tiny bit rude, but dammit Trash had wasted her time first.

"Sorry, sorry. I stick to bladed weapons mainly. I've been known to have an 80% success rate," Akira kept her sentences short and choppy, otherwise she'd likely let something snarky slip. She had also fibbed a little bit on her success rate, but it'd be awhile until it was deemed safe enough to bring her wife. When working together, that rate was nearly a hundred.

"If you wish to work for me, sign this. I'll give you a bit to read it. Please don't take too long, I have other affairs to attend too," Akira resisted the urge to roll her eyes at that last statement. Did this meeting not count as an important affair? She gave a nod before turning down to the papers before her.

Trash hummed and reached behind them, pulling out a few papers. Where on earth did they get them from? Akira didn't recall a pouch or pocket. Whatever, it wasn't her business. The papers were slid across to her. A contract. She raised an eyebrow and looked at the leader. This early into the meeting? It reeked of suspicion. Trash must've seen her skeptical look, because she elaborated.

It was very detailed, she'd give her that. It layed out what exactly would be expected of her by working for the monarch, and all the other basics on seemingly every contract. She agreed with it, luckily. Of course before moving on to the section she wanted to see, Akira made sure to do a close inspection for hidden clauses or small texts. Trash didn't seem like the type of leader to play around, that was more Moth's cup of tea, but it never hurt to double check. Finally, she reached the payment section. And damn, was it a nice figure. Trash likely knew she worked for whoever payed the most, and was determined to have her. Mmm, she could likely double that figure if she brought her wife, but those were thoughts for the future.

As she looked up, there was a pen not so subtly placed next to her. Giving the paper one last glance over, she took a deep breath and grabbed the pen. Such a powerful person giving her this much freedom in the job, with a hefty pay? It would be a dream. Hesitating for a moment, Akira took another breath before signing her alias on the contract, and setting down the pen. Trash grabbed the papers and slowly slid them back over to herself, nodding. And if she looked hard enough, Akira would admit to seeing a small smirk on her face.

"So, you're with me then," Trash spoke up, breaking the lengthy silence. No expression sat on her face as they made eye contact.

"Well, unless someone pays me more..that'd be a yes," Akira snarked back, letting a grin cover her own face. Trash stood up, and gathered the contract papers in her hand, straightening them.

As the monarch walked towards the room's exit, she uttered something near Akira's ear, "Then each payment will get higher. I'm sure that will suffice," Something glowed in her hands, and was tossed back towards the assassin. Crystals? "You'll need these crystals, they are communicators of a sort. Do not loose them."

"Don't disappoint me," Ha, as if.

this DLC has me FUCKED UP and i keep screaming

spoilers for Bounty of Blood under the cut, keep reading at ur own peril. Also some Guardian Takedown spoilers for anyone who hasn’t beat it yet

tl;dr: a comparison between something taken from BL2 and a thing taken from Bounty of Blood. more spoilery tl;dr below the cut.

also the siren thing is not spoilers so i’ll share it here for anyone curious, it’s just this: siren tattoos are blue but when lily absorbs eridium in 2, they turn pinkish/purple. just like how vaults do from bl1 to bl2. they’re white/blue in bl1, then purple-pink in bl2 (and tps), y’know, after Eridium begins erupting from the ground. just a neat little detail i noticed that im not entirely sure was intentional but im gonna believe it is.

tl;dr: Gythian Blood = Core and the Ruiner is of Eridian Origin even tho everyone in the DLC likes to say it was created with Jakobs’ bioengineering. disclaimer: idk if I’ve found every hidden ECHO so I may be missing a few things but I have done every side quest and took ample screenshots of all important dialogue in the DLC : )

it's not like we can do an actual comparison because we have no idea what the natural fauna of gehenna was like before jakobs came and mutated everything with core unlike pandora where we know what skags and rakk and shit were like BEFORE the eridium crust erupted.

altho!!! there's a neat comparison between joey ultraviolet and rose. like obviously he wasn't getting tattoos and was just doing lines of crushed up eridium but the point stands they both have glowy eyes and unique powers so i don't necessarily think this means rose is a siren just because she has magic powers especially when we know she got the whistling passed down to her from her grandmother.

especially because we've never seen a siren interact with core before. altho that leaves the question we have seen core tattoos now what are eridium tattoos like? actually rose's tattoos were on her right arm obviously she isn't a siren as we know them right now (I saw a post on reddit where people thought rose was a siren)

of course that brings up the point perhaps siren tattoos ARE eridium tattoos. but then we hear the general's log about how the devil riders were tattooing a man with core and blood so obviously they're not ‘naturally’ occurring unlike siren tattoos. so odds are they're probably not equivalents but something interesting i thought of while thinking about this is how well siren tattoos compare to the Vaults from borderlands 1 and borderlands 2″

anyway. this is all ive been thinking about. yes yes i know guardian takedown post but! >:( im still salty even tho this update has been lovely (outside of Blane not getting his correct damage scaling ‘till today......). so i’ll do that at my own damn pace. now let me elaborate so i can sleep at night lmao

refinement produces slag, which weakens people and can mutate things

has mutating properties, mostly with imbuing elements into shit- possibly causes insanity

seems to be connected to another dimension, likely the one the Eridians are from

Core

has a secondary form of Infused Core

has mutating properties, mostly regarding a thing’s body and mind

apparently radioactive

there are some things i wanna note

1) People throughout the DLC say the Ruiner was created by the Jakobs corp (the company) thru bio-engineering but I’m 99% sure that’s not true. The paperwork seems to me like they found the egg somewhere on Gehenna and decided to roll and experiment with it like all corporations do when they find weird alien shit. so maybe they experimented with whatever was inside the egg, but I don’t think they actually created it entirely

2) The Ruiner’s design reminds me a lot of the Warrior.

3) Core immediately reminded me of Gythian Blood from Guns Love and Tentacles and I don’t think that’s coincidence to have 2 back-to-back DLCs where the big bad is focused on green death juice. I think Gythian Blood and Core are of the same stuffs.

4) Therefore, I think the Ruiner is (mostly) of Eridian origin (if you haven’t already guessed).

This gives us an amazing look into how the Eridians actually create their beasts!!! And I’m so happy they showed us this.

(side note, Interitus Regina (the long name for Ruiner) literally means Destruction Queen and I think that’s beautiful <3)

i mean the idea that they plunge them from orbit to create an explosion similar to a nuke is fucking horrifying (but holy shit I love it so much ahhh it’s so cool!!!!)

the one side line from Oletta about how the company couldn’t control the Ruiner deffo makes me double down on this theory. I’m not entirely sure how Rose’s grandma knew about the whistling (I don’t think I’ve found every echo log in that area YET), but I would bet it was part of the testing given how many fuckin’ tape players they have throughout the facility. The Warrior was controlled by verbal commands via Jack, so it’s possible that the Ruiner was intended to be controlled similarly, but Jakobs intervention (or something like the way Rose hatched it) fucked it up.

now we know the Warrior was created to protect the Vault of the Destroyer (hmm.) so what the heck was the Ruiner created for? Ruiner is a name given to it by Jakobs/the people of Gehenna so we can’t really assume, but then again the monster names are pretty apt in this series even tho they probably technically shouldn’t be.

it was only an egg, so maybe it was another test of Core? A Vault Monster incubating until it was ready to protecc and attacc but was never hatched because the Eridians ‘sacrificed’ themselves before it could? (I’m still not convinced the Eridians are the good guys. Listen. LISTEN. The guardian takedown is something to think about, BUT it doesn’t disprove that theory and I’ll stand by it because I 100% trust the Overseer more than bitchpants mcgee over here who thinks he’s soooo special for no reason fuck you and your dumb ‘I did what the Watcher could not’ bull you haven’t done shit.) ok sorry im done he just angers me. stupid guardian man. your whip is stupid and you should feel bad. oh also I totally called us actually being Guardians thru Guardian Rank before the game came out aha yeah.

I definitely think Gythian was a test/use of Core from the Eridians. We see in Bounty of Blood that core seems to mutate more the physical (and occasionally mental) parts of people, like with the crew challenges u do for Juno with all the weird hybrid people and whatnot. Gythian had the whole ‘the heart still beats’ thing going on (which is definitely a physical mutation if i’ve ever seen one), plus the whole, you know, mind control and shit. Which is p similar to what the menta gnats can do when charged with Infused Core. And keep in mind in BLaT we see DAHL notes on what happens to test subjects when injected with Gythian Blood. They mutated physically and went insane.

What im saying is Sirens and Eridium and Elements are connected, so what does Core equal? body/mind sure but are there unique creatures for core (yes holy shit I’m not talking about h2o au for once and FINALLY they gave us a canon name for the green stuff!!!). If not, I’d love to see a Siren interact with Core to see what it does to them. seriously why hasn’t tannis interrupted us yet. horrible excuse for a science lover (kidding kidding, I love her). I’d also really love a fuller rundown on what the hell Rose’s powers were. Because the whistling thing seemed to just be her grandma’s thingie passed down to her from her mom

but the core stuff

her gun seems to be infused with it. So did her sword thing. I didn’t really get a good look at it i was too busy trying to see thru my blurry tears of LOVE for this DLC.

Strangely while her tattoos are (mostly) green I actually don’t know if they’re core infused bc look at this

n look back at hers. hers aren’t very lime.

her eyes

I’d love to know if the core gives her immediate future sight or just increased perception or reaction times. there’s a huge difference but she seemed to be able to shoot the gun outta the sheriff’s hand near immediately and it seems kinda implied its because of the core (or at least because her eyes are glowing green)

there’s a possibility she has some unique core powers/possibly implants because of her relations to the project in the first place, or as leader of the devil riders after looting the facility. it’s really hard to say without more info and like i said im not sure if i missed an ECHO or two or not regarding her backstory :(

Her hair is also green which I just noticed. Maybe she has core powers bc her grandmother got suuuuuuuuper irradiated/influenced working on project horizons and it passed down thru her n Rose’s mom, to Rose. Tannis does have a line about Sirens having unique hair colors and, if Sirens are linked to Eridium, perhaps those linked to Core also have unique hair color. Could also explain why only Rose seems to have those whistling powers. That said we don’t really see anyone else trying that whistling thing out afaik and idk if it was, like, a special ability or a certain tone/ditty or w h a t.

i know being vague with everything gives them more creative freedom to create amazing characters and scenarios, but dammit I want A N S W E R S.

All THAT said man I’m so glad magic is real in the borderlands universe. oh, sorry, “magic”. It’s magic. Science it, tannis, I dare you. either way, I win. Either it’s magic and H2O AU is canon, or it’s science and I finally get my goddamn answers. Hey gearbox can you make a book just explaining all the science and eridian stuff. please. I’d love you forever. please. pleaheheheheaaasseee it’s all i’ve ever wanted.

oh also can i just say, suuuper disappointed we didn’t learn anything about anshin. Really wish non-fan favorite corporations would get the spotlight/lore for once. Like, I like Jakobs as much as the next guy, and I get WHY they did it (can’t have a corporation looking too good!!!) but they now have 3 DLCs (Jakobs Cove, GLaT, and Bounty of Blood) and also a hefty chunk of the main game. Like... we all know Jakobs fuckin sucks, look at what they did on Pandora. I really just want info on a medical corporation 😭 I have to do everything my damn s e l f. but SERIOUSLY IMAGINE the possibilities that could come from a medical corp getting its hands on eridian tech. like, yeah obviously the weapons corps are gonna use it for weaponry and stuff BUT WOULDN’T THE MEDICAL CORPS MUTATING PEOPLE MAKE MORE SENSE??? ldfhgldfshg I have to do everything my damn self...

anyway all that aside, this is definitely by favorite borderlands dlc by a LONG shot. Nothing comes close. Ahhh the lore, the nuclear aspect, the a e s t h e t i c (seriously, have I mentioned how much I adore Trigun???), the art, the music, the cryoslinger, the fact I can bust out going beeEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAans like Ray Chase at any time and it will MAKE SENSE. I love all of it.

oh, also, Rose is totally not dead. C’mon, they couldn’t find her body. She pulled a Lilith. “Are you sure she didn’t just suffer a wound that LOOKS fatal, only for her to come back in a blockbuster sequel...?” is a line from mr Jones himself (the movie guy)

I just hope when she comes back she gets to meet Captain Scarlett. I’d love to watch their interactions plus pirates and or ninjas. That’s 2 DLC villains now that have vanished without a trace. And I like Captain Scarlett way more than Rose (seriously I spent the entire beginning of the DLC complaining about how her voice bothered me- I was so happy she was a villain, I was hoping that was the case).

oh yeah, reminder, the people of vestige were living next to highly radioactive egg for likely years. i feel really bad for them :(

i will not include spoilers from the book, for those of you who haven’t read the series. but just know, the book was soooo much better. and you should read it!

strongest aspects

the cinematography! it’s always so pretty and stunning. i really had to play some scenes back just to appreciate the beauty. and after watching the movie, i was so excited to see all the gifsets many talented content creators would create for this movie

lana’s chemistry with both noah and jordan. like, damn. relax??? they don’t make it easy for me to choose. i’m covinksy trash but the gazes from john ambrose??? i swoon!

of course, the honorable mention to lara jean’s style (as always). no one can beat it. everyone else can go home.

weakest aspects

the plot. i was afraid this would happen. it’s missing a lot of key points from the book and im not even sure what was the driving force. the movie felt rushed and the build up was choppy. kind of anticlimactic, compared to the book. i was disappointed (but regardless, i still loved watching it. must a movie be good for it to be enjoyable?)

character development outside of lara jean. i wanted more of kitty. more of chris. more of lucas. i feel like they had more purpose in tatbilb 1, but now? they’re just kinda there? but there was some slight development with gen, i guess

john ambrose & peter kavinsky. i’m not gonna say much, but john ambrose was supposed to be a much bigger character than he was in the movie. a bigger storyline. a bigger impact. a bigger click. nothing. nada. and peter? he’s great, but so, how do i say this? one-dimensional? we didn’t see many layers to him. not like we did in the first film. where was the jealousy?? barely any!!!

the dialogue. i mean, there are so many great quotes from the book that i was just dying to hear, and then, they just... didn’t say them!! don’t get me wrong, the script was cute and all, but i so badly wanted those iconic lines. ya know? for example: “let’s do it fucking for real, lara jean. let’s go all in. no more contract. no more safety net.” how could they miss THAT?

but to end on a high note: my favorite parts!

jordan fisher as john ambrose is a DREAM. whoever casted him is a genius! a goddamn genius!

lara jean and peter’s dates with the wish-making laterns and at the carnival were done so beautifully. i’m reblogging every gifset.

john ambrose + lara jean sitting together at the piano as he plays gave me all the feelings!! i had to replay that scene three times just to 1) watch her, then 2) watch him, and finally 3) watch both of them at once. yeah. it was absolutely necessary.

the metaphor of the snow globe, “glitter everywhere” and the scene of john ambrose and lara jean kissing as the snow falls. wow.

peter constantly kissing lara jean’s face, neck, lips, whatever, like the annoying lovesick boyfriend he is. god, i feel so single. stop it.

that scene where peter had to dissect an octopus but he was so grossed out, so lara jean said she’d do it. because, same. i could never.

after lara jean and peter’s first date, she closed the door and peter had a little “hell yeah!” moment. that was cute. give me more!

overall, tatbilb 1 still remains my favorite movie by far, and psisly, in my opinion, just wasn’t as great. but i’d be lying if i said i didn’t enjoy it. or that i wouldn’t rewatch it. because i would. i totally would.
