i started writing this in the tags on bulk's post but i got pretty off topic so i'm just gonna put it here.
whenever theres a conflict in night vale, i like think about whats going on in the real world. finknor are really really good at satirizing very real and heavy issues and somehow finding ways to bring out the beauty and awe and community that can exist no matter how bleak things seem- it’s a huge part of what i love about wtnv.
this arc and janet specifically is so interesting to me because of exactly this.
i think part of why we're so obsessed with lubelle as a villain is bc we KNOW she's the villain. we can see her disrupting the town and using her language and “logical explanations” to get rid of things she doesn't like- to get rid of that which makes her uncomfortable. its satisfying for us to hear cecil call for the town to shut her out! its satisfying to hear of the town storming her campus, confronting her and calling her out as being in the wrong! its satisfying to know that, by the end of this season, things will be resolved in some way that leaves us feeling hopeful. that things might look different, that dynamics might change and characters will have changed, but that there is some sort of resolution coming.
it’s also heartbreaking (though very fun from strictly a storytelling perspective) to see that the efforts cecil and the town have made so far aren’t working. it’s heartbreaking to hear cecil be at such a loss as to what he can do, to try to avoid violence for carlos’ sake, to feel hopeless. to watch him put his trust and hope in someone who is promising freedom from janet's tyranny only for that to be shattered.
sometimes i wish i could go grab a pitchfork and storm on the people who are trying to explain away the existence of people i love. i would be lying if i said i didn’t sometimes feel at a loss as to what i can do- as to what authority figures i can trust, where i can put my hope. sometimes i want to yell on public radio for everyone to shut out the hateful, hurtful people in power. sometimes i feel paralyzed like i imagine carlos has in this arc. i don’t know that there will be a neat resolution to everything going on in the world right now, but i am trying to remember that there ARE people taking action. that there are people trying to make the world a better place, who want good for everyone around them. that there ARE people marching and yelling for change. that there IS beauty and awe and good and community no matter how bleak things feel. idk. i might be projecting too much here but also isn’t that what art and story is all about? just… i love this narrative bc its fun and exciting, but also bc it is such a brilliant mirror being held up to world rn. and now im gonna go back to hoping cecil is kidnapped and so so sad and scared and hoping that steve carlsburg will use his hope and love of his community and unique knowledge and perspective to save the day. or carlos or whatever. sorry im so insane ab this little podcast.

🌬Gemini suns are the epitome of golden retriever energy.
🌬I’ve noticed a lot of people in the psychology field or with psych degrees tend to have Cancer and/or Virgo placements in their big 6. Either that or strong 4th and 6th house energy. Makes a lot of sense. 4th house= emotions. 6th house= service for others.
🌬Cancer suns are underrated for being leaders, I’ve had so many bosses and higher-ups who have been Cancer suns.
🌬I’ve noticed that homewreckers tend to have a lot of fire/water dominance in their charts, which I think is due to their passion ruling their decisions. I’ve noticed this with cheaters as well. I also think with water placements it comes from insecurity.
🌬Cancer sun women are underrated in terms of sex appeal. My mom said the same thing too so it’s not just me tooting my own horn. Let’s think of some popular Cancer sun celebrities- Pam Anderson, Ariana Grande, Lana Del Rey, Sofia Vergara, Selena Gomez. All have sex appeal and have been sexualized a lot. Cancer sun women do get sexualized a lot. I’m realizing this as I type it. I only notice this in women though, sorry Cancer sun men LMAO. I’m a Cancer sun and I get sexualized for no gd reason.
🌬I’ve noticed that Taurus Venus and Taurus Mars people tend to go for more curvier/voluptuous women.
🌬Peak Aries moon energy is losing interest in someone because they’re not giving you enough attention.
🌬I feel like Cancer suns care a lot about politics and this quality is often overlooked.
🌬I feel like Taurus rising women+ feminine presenting people have like the ultra divine feminine energy. I think it’s because Venus rules their chart, but a lot of Taurus risings I’ve noticed are VERY feminine or have feminine qualities.
🌬Taurus risings and Sagittarius risings tend to be thick LMAO or at least very curvy.
🌬Not really an observation but other aspects in your chart can be very powerful and overshadow qualities you’re “supposed” to have. For example I have two friends who are Aries suns with Libra moons with earth rising, and they are so different. I will say both do have feminine qualities though, like personality wise and physically. Other than that though they’re very different, one is the stereotypical Aries and the other is more like a Pisces.
🌬Idk what’s been going on but I feel like I’ve been encountering so many Libra suns with Sagittarius moons. I don’t know if that’s a common combo, but I’ve been coming across a lot of them lately. (I also work with one). I’ve noticed the men with these aspects are such fuckboys, the women usually aren’t, but the men? Oof.
🌬I’ve noticed a lot of people with Bipolar disorder or BPD tend to have harsh aspects between their sun and moon. I think it’s because those are the two most personal parts of our charts and having them clash can create conflict within.
🌬I feel like a lot of prominent Sagittarius placements get tattoos or wanna get tattoos. P much every Sag placement I’ve known has tattoos or wants to get them.
🌬Libra sun women have nice asses. I SAID IT OKAY. Even if it’s not big it’s a nice shape.
🌬Libra Mars and Cancer Mars tend to have stomach issues, I feel like it’s because we bottle up our anger and it affects our bodies 😂
🌬️I feel like people with their Venus and Mars in the same sign can balance their masculine and feminine energy very well.
🌬️One Virgo placement in the big three can really make someone so anal retentive which ironic bc Virgo rules the bowels… 👀👀👀👀 Even if they’re not like that about cleaning, some aspect in their life they’re very obsessive over… however I do notice it’s cleaning for many. 🌬️I stg 12th house synastry is so fucking hard, I feel like I see this a lot in relationships that couldn’t get off the ground or where one person is obsessed with the other. I think that makes sense since the 12th house deals with illusions, unclarity, etc. It’s such a deep connection too, when it works it works but when it doesn’t, it really hurts.
🌬️The house that your Midheaven ruling planet falls into can tell you a lot about your career. My midheaven is Virgo which makes the ruler Mercury, and my Mercury falls in my 8th house. This house deals with a lot of taboo and intensity, which makes sense because I work on an inpatient psychiatric unit. I also want to be a psychologist. So there ya go lol.
🌬️Nessus in the 1st/aspects to the 1st can indicate ab*se in the native’s life, whether it’s giving or receiving. It’s very heavy energy. It can also indicate being into some freaky ass shit in the bedroom, alot of adult actors have this in their chart.
🌬️Going off of that, Nessus aspects in a positive manner can make someone who wants to help victims of ab*se, whether they’ve been ab*sed or not themselves.
🌬️If a person has both Nessus and Dejanira in their chart, they may have been a victim of ab*se and maybe ab*sive towards others. With this played out in a more positive manner, it can make someone who was a victim of ab*se want to help other victims. ^^^
🌬️Mutable risings really are chameleons when it comes to their appearance. They can manage to make themselves look like completely different people, i.e. Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian.
🌬️Algol 26° Taurus aspects to NN can make an individual very stoic and able to handle chaos & negative situations well.
🌬️Prominent Virgo/Mercury placements tend to pick at their skin and enjoy things like popping pimples and stuff lol.
🌬️Asteroids Messalina (545), Swindle (8690), Sirene (1009), Tantalus (2102), and Lie (26955) aspecting Mercury and/or in the 3rd house can indicate someone who’s very good at lying and manipulating others.
🌬️Asteroid Sappho (80) in women/feminine people and Asteroid Ganymed (1036) in men/masculine people having harsh aspects to NN or personal planets can indicate LGBT+ people who heavily struggle with figuring out their sexuality (more so than usual lol).
🌬️I have Asteroid Achilles (588) conjunct my North Node, and that’s the asteroid of where we’re most vulnerable and where our weaknesses are. I feel like that makes sense for me... lol. LIKE. confident, has some confidence. someone who isn't afraid to speak their mind or voice their opinion. i think of dina for example, who’s a little bit of a flirt. made it known that she liked ellie, who went and kissed ellie first. orrr riley, who was impulsive and willingly brought ellie along w her sometimes to show that she wasn’t afraid to join the fireflies. who showed she was determined to do what she thought was right. ellie is def into those types of women.... and more! hold on.

IDK if this thing I keep hearing about Soap being an artist is canon (bc I don’t actually play any shooter games, including COD, I just like the fanart & HCs) but Shkretart’s recent Ghost art study made me think of the classic “draw me like one of your French girls” AKA for some reason, Soap (who’s already pining over Ghost) convinces his crush to pose nude for him. Maybe things get a lil bit heated (in a sexy way, not an angry way lol)?
it is actually canon! from the original games, soap kept a journal that had sketches in it with his entries, if you’re wondering where that whole thing came from
now. i pulled a fade to black moment because i have no idea how tumblr guidelines work. so apologies hope this okay

It’s never been a secret that Soap has a knack for art.
It’s something he’s proud of, always seeking to improve, and it’s hardly unheard of for soldiers to witness him tucked away in his corners on base with a journal, sketchbook, or some other medium scratching away at whatever comes to mind in those moments.
It's no secret, either, that he's talented for someone who claims he "isn't any sort of artist," and it's no secret at all that he has a preference for portraits.
However. However.
Though he isn't ashamed of it in any regard, nor is he any kind of prude, Soap does prefer to keep guarded his anatomy studies. For fear of judgement or something else, he isn’t certain, but they’re kept in a separate journal tucked under his mattress for when the time so comes for him to work on it again.
And currently, Soap’s begun to feel that pull again. A certain fascination, perhaps, is what lures him. Or maybe it’s the big, fat crush he has on his lieutenant.
Either way, he’s found himself unsatisfied with what he’s been able to draw of Ghost—from afar, masked. Clothed in too many layers for Soap to make sense of much.
(A lie. A complete and utter lie. But Soap has unreasonable wants, doesn’t he?)
The thing that sets him off is incredibly pathetic. But it forces Soap to finally muster up the courage to try and warm Ghost up to the idea of being drawn—studied—so Soap supposes he can forgive himself for being so hopeless just this once.
It’s post a sparring match. Soap still loses most rounds against Ghost, but he’d say he’s gotten significantly better in the time they’ve worked together. Even Ghost might say the same, if Soap were so lucky. But it just happens that sparring matches are usually when Ghost tends to wear looser clothing, and when he stretches his arms his shirt rides up, just enough for Soap to catch a glimpse of the cut of his hips, the lines of his abs, his trim waist. He’s known Ghost is fit, but seeing it has Soap itching for his pencil.
The first time he blurts out his idea, Ghost gives him a very firm no. Which isn’t much of a surprise—just asking his superior officer if he’s ever considered posing for someone to draw is a little too forthcoming, especially when it’s the first Soap has ever mentioned anything of it to him.
But then he keeps asking, hinting, persuading, until weeks after the thought strikes Soap, Ghost miraculously agrees to let Soap sketch him.
His body. The curves of strong muscles, the sharp edges of everything else. Long limbs, graceful in spite of the destruction they’re more than capable of. Gentle hands despite their scars, and soft eyes despite the hardened shell of everything Ghost.
Soap is nervous, to say the least. When the day finally comes one unassuming evening, when Soap is led to Ghost’s quarters like it isn’t some big deal.
And maybe it isn’t, but it is for him. So he’s nervous. Beyond unsure.
Ghost is hard to read, more so than usual. He seems almost casual settling into his room, untying his laces and placing his boots neatly aside. Shucking off his hoodie and dropping it unceremoniously on his dresser. Soap watches from the doorway, awkwardly hovering as the door clicks shut behind him.
Suddenly Ghost pauses, glances to Soap with eyebrows raised. He then looks to a spare chair tucked in the corner of the room and gestures vaguely before continuing his undress.
When his mask is unexpectedly tugged off, Soap finds his way to the chair before his knees buckle underneath him. This has to be a mistake.
He’s dreaming, surely. Ghost never agreed and Soap is dreaming and why would he ever get the opportunity to—
“How do you want me, then?” Ghost asks. Soap’s eyes snap to the lieutenant’s.
He’s lost his shirt now, too. Soap isn’t certain why he’s taken aback—it’s exactly what he had asked Ghost to do.
Ghost isn’t looking at him anymore, instead pulling off his trousers and leaving them in a pile with the rest of his clothing.
“Uh,” Soap says rather eloquently, “however, ‘s fine.”
Ghost’s brows are furrowed, his jaw tensed. But he sits on his bed anyway, crossing his legs as he stares curiously at Soap, like the interaction is nothing as he’s expected.
Which is fair. Because Soap had hoped it wouldn’t be like this, either. He feels stilted in his own movements, tearing his eyes away from Ghost to adjust in his seat and open his journal to a blank page.
“We don’t have to do this,” Ghost says—and why’s he asking that?
“That’s meant to be my line, LT,” Soap teases. His face is flushed, he knows it, but he has to summon what courage had got him here in the first place, if this is meant to be any kind of worth it.
Ghost huffs, shifting his position. His legs fall wider, torso lengthening as he straightens his posture a moment before splaying himself more openly, sitting back on his palms.
“Pretend I’m not here,” Soap says. He forces his gaze back on Ghost and clears his throat. “Or don’t. Jus’… don’t feel like you have to pose.”
Ghost nods. It’s awkward for them both as they’re blanketed by silence, but once Soap finally begins copying life onto his page, the tension begins to ease.
By no means is Ghost’s physique something Soap hasn’t drawn before—so it’s simple, tracing out the basic shapes. It’s mindless, and Soap hardly has to spare Ghost a glance.
It’s the marks and spots and scars that cause him issue, as every pencil stroke demands more detail, more accuracy, more studying of Ghost’s figure. What’s presented as is isn’t enough, so on impulse Soap ventures to move closer, to adjust Ghost as he sees comfortably fit.
He stops a tad too close, a hand outstretched and well within Ghost’s space. His journal as been left on the chair, fanned out and face down on the seat.
“Do you mind?” Soap asks quietly.
Ghost peers up at him through his stupidly blond lashes, dark eyes wide yet clouded over with something inscrutable. He shakes his head.
Soap is finally hesitant despite the permission. Ghost’s skin is warm beneath his fingertips. He’s too easy to manoeuvre, for being the man Soap has always known him to be.
But then Soap makes the mistake of looking back into Ghost’s eyes. Makes the mistake of flicking his gaze to Ghost’s exposed lips.
They’re too close, like this. Soap should step away and return to his sketches. He should be maintaining some semblance of composure even in spite of the situation, the circumstances.
But he doesn’t. And he can’t.
Thinking he’d ever survive something like this without breaking was a mistake.
“Johnny?”
With great effort, Soap retracts his hand. “I’m sorry.” He rambles, “I’m sorry. This is—wildly inappropriate, sir, and I never should have—“
Ghost seizes his wrist. Soap doesn't get the time to process anything before Ghost is dragging him close again, pulling Soap down to meet his lips.
Soap falls easily into his lieutenant. They slot together naturally as Ghost moves further back onto the bed for Soap to chase after, suddenly craving the sharp scent of gunpowder and whatever eyeblack Ghost had washed off prior to the entire encounter, suddenly wanting to taste every bit of Ghost's lips, his tongue, his mouth.
Ghost's warmth feels more inviting, now. The solidity of his body seems far less intimidating as it had only as a spectator. It somehow takes less courage to explore every dip and curve with Soap's hands as opposed to his pencil.
Ghost is everything Soap has wanted, here and now. And he hadn’t ever realized Ghost had felt the same.
It’s safe to say that Soap's sketches never get finished that night.

i’m (not) sorry to say, but miles is better off by himself.
idk if i’ve ever written a post this long, but i got energy tonight. y’all have been sucked into the black hole of shipping, so let me ground you and remind you of this amazing thing called being single. i’m gna talk ab margo and gwen, but mostly gwen bc she’s obv miles’ (main) love interest. i’ve said more than enough about why miles and gwen don’t work/make sense. if you wna be enlightened then feel free to click the links.

i don't have much to say about margo bc sadly, she's barely there. what i will say though is that as cute as miles and margo would be together, there’s one more movie left lol. the third movie’s gna be busy as hell. there’s literally no time for romance, and to rush miles and margo (two people who just met) into liking each other in, like, a three hour timespan would just be terrible writing. plus, we all know she’s there for some bs having to do with miles nd gwen, which is literally soooooooo very lame, words can't describe. one, where are you finding the time to cram in jealousy/all this angsty romance mess when miles’ dad is ab to die and the universe is ab to collapse bc of a nigga that looks like the lovechild of a cardboard box and a cow?? two, is this really all margo is here for?? to make gwen jealous or “help miles realize he’s in love with gwen” ?? shameeee, like summer said. 😐 i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: margo could be SO much more than a disposable love interest!!!

listen, even if (when?) gwen and miles team up to save his dad, it won’t change the fact that gwen was keeping some hefty info from miles, yo. she was smiling in jeff’s face and cracking jokes like she didn’t know he was bout to die. y’all gotta be so very real with yourselves. you wouldn’t wna date, let alone be FRIENDS with someone who kept something that big from you, regardless of the circumstances or lack of ill intent. one of the most important people in your life concealing the fact that you’re about to lose another important person in your life is insane.
i’m aware that gwen didn’t tell miles about his dad because she genuinely thought it’d cause mass destruction if he saved jeff. thing is, even if miles knew that, i think he’d still feel betrayed. that’s 100% valid because this is his dad we’re talking about. he just lost his uncle not too long ago, too. i wouldn’t blame miles if he never wanted anything to do with gwen again. i wouldn’t blame bro if he got sick to his stomach every time he saw her. it’d be justified, bc if he never followed her that night, then he wouldn’t have had the chance to save jeff.
my point is that you can be a “good person” and still fuck up bad enough to make someone never wna speak to you again. miles is a sweetheart so he’ll probably forgive gwen. my thing is, miles forgiving gwen doesn’t mean the two of them are obligated to be friends again. they can handle it maturely, go their separate ways, nd never speak again. it’s really not even gna hurt y’all cuz it’s the last mf movie anyway??? 😭😭
if it isn’t clear by now, i don’t want miles and gwen together at all. they have no business being around each other frl 🙃 not as friends and definitely not as lovers. like, sure, that one scene where they’re swinging/talking on the bank was my absolute fav. it was cute. i shipped them before i really thought about it. that scene is still my fav, but my adoration for it isn’t gna stop me from keeping it real.
i really don’t care what anyone says or how in love they think these two are, this isn’t a “forgive and forget” situation. if the writers truly wanted gwen and miles to be involved romantically, then not only should they have structured their dynamic better, they shouldn’t have made gwen the person she was in this movie. love, love, LOVE redemption arcs because it’s a reminder that we're human and we're flawed, but you can’t redeem yourself from that. sorry. (not) i say miles should leave that girl alone 🤷♀️ leave all potential girls alone ffs.
in conclusion, it’s okay for miles to be single. he's 15 anyway, it's not like he'll die without a girl. i’m the suckiest sucker for anything to do with romance, but characters in film/animation don’t need to have love interests for a project to be considered good. if you feel like it does, then maybe ts you’re watching just sucks, lmao. a girl and a boy can be friends without one having feelings for the other, or both of 'em having mutual feelings. (in the media idk ab irl..) it’s time to stop forcing ts. please.
and it’s okay y’all, i promise you. it’s okay if miles and gwen don’t end up dating. it's okay if they reconcile and stay friends. it’s okay if they reconcile and don’t stay friends. though unlikely, it’s also okay if miles doesn’t forgive gwen at all! resolutions like these go to show that you can “forgive” someone without letting them have access to you anymore. that’s what miles needs to do. straying away from the “happy ending” everyone is expecting would be nice. it’d be a different approach and a realistic way to complete the franchise. (i’m not just saying this bc i love angst)

Hey I wanted know about your version of the ancestral and to know the timeline of when they destroyed domino
Hi, @seth-the-whalelord, i am sorry because oh gosh i have a LOT to say and you prompting this means im not gonna be able to think of anything else ahhhh.
OK so like. lets ignore how in general the timeline is really fucked up (flashbacks with the company of light and Griffin and Faragonda's relative ages are very confusing) but lets just ASSUME, path of least confusion that Domino got iced exactly as many years ago as is appropriate based on Bloom's age (I actually haven't decided if i's scaling the girls ages up slightly yet.) So basically it got destroyed when Bloom (and all her other peers in her age range here) were babies. That’s a BIG event to happen in relatively RECENT HISTORY and I have issues about how I want to make it clear that this is an event that has affected basically every world in the magical universe. BUT LETS PUT THAT ASIDE LETS TALK ABOUT THE WITCHES.
So my issue is the Ancestral Witches are meant to be these, hugely ancient beings formed at the beginning of the universe. But, they never… felt…. That cool to me? They’ve existed for all of time but it took them literally until what 15-18 years ago to get at the Dragon Flame? Despite the fact that it seems like pretty common knowledge where it is?? And the fact that they later named them and then the backstory with Griffin working with them and Valtor… that was before they got banished so to me it seems like they shouldn’t need the proxy of someone working on their behalf, like they do when they’re guiding the Trix… That feels to me like big powerful witches and villainesses and definitely big bad material but not like the unspeakable ancient things that I imagine when you say OLD AS TIME ELEMENTAL EVIL, you know?
Another thing: Arcadia. We have a direct counterpoint to “the first witches” in “the first Fairy who flew”. I actually like how vague her existence is and how strange and uncanny she looks. She almost comes across as a minor goddess, or someone who has basically ascended to demigod hood. I think one of the reasons I like her vibe over the ancestral witches is… she seems so… separate from reality and above what’s going on in the mortal planes. She waits for the Winx to come to her, instead of meddling/ the AW are pretty much exclusively into getting the trix to meddle for them. Or building a boy (Valtor) to do stuff for them. Idk. That said im actually not how im handling Arcadia or the existence of the water stars at all im just thinking ab the contrast of how they’re presented. Basically even when they’re spooky shadowy crone figures the witches strike me as beings of the material rather than an old-as-time type set of entities.
Anyway making the first witches these ‘’’’first creatures of evil’’’’ really fucks with the limp ‘well, not ALL witches are evil’ assertion that the show tries to make (but also doesn’t remember half the time). Like, that can definitely be the NARRATIVE that gets pushed, and I do think that the Ancestral witches themselves should be properly evil big bads, but you can’t build the worlds universe on ‘witches were invented to be evil, and fairies are meant to good’ and then benignly go ‘oh not realllyyyyy. I mean MOSTLY but not really. You know. Not the 2 witches we like (one of whom becomes a fairy)’. That can be the story a lot of people believe, but you cannot build it into the literal history of your world setting and then turn around and ask the audience to think otherwise.
I think what makes most sense to me is that Belladonna, Liliss, and Tharma are the names of the last INCARNATIONS of the Ancestral Witches but not the original/actual identities.
I think they were just witches once. Not quite from the beginning of time but from a long, long, long time ago. They had names no one remembers anymore, and names before that. They were witches who garnered such power that they wrote their identities into the flow of magic itself, who unmoored their spirits from their selves so that when they died they did not truly die.
Basically, they’re Liches.
I like the idea of the Witches recurring in history, reappearing as different women across the eons as their spirits find new lives to subsume. It’s not a bloodline (even though the trix call themselves the AW’s ‘direct descendants’ - unless Belladonna, Liliss and Tharma all fucked and had children, and each of the girls could directly trace their ancestry back to them… first of all why, how, wouldn’t families keep that an awful secret because presumably being related to the people who tried to kill dragon god and nuked the fairy Vatican would make their lives DIFFICULT - despite that language I always assumed they were kind of styling themselves as spiritual successors (which.. might be the literal opposite of ’direct descendant’ but what can I say that’s the vibe I always got)
I think, in my version of things, they’re… sort of like their successors. ( I have them style themselves as Inheritrix - Hence, Trix) but well, really the Trix are really more like…
Vessels.
Or, they will be, when they’re strong enough.
One of the big reasons Witches are looked down on is that there’s this pervasive cultural sentiment that they’re greedy and power-hungry. They Want what they don’t Have, they will Take what Is Not Theirs. This has a little bit to do with the way I conceive of the concept of positive or negative magic - not dark and light but more like electric charges or polarity. Fairies (+) generate magic, and Witches (-) absorb magic from outside sources. I think there’s actually a very important place for Witches in the magic ecosystem, and both fairies and witches have a part to play in keeping balance. The ancestral witches represent the worst extreme of witch dysfunction. They take so much that they cling onto life, stealing the lives of other witches through generations. They refuse to be swept away through the river of time, to return to the flow of Magic, to take their part in the cycle.

while i agree that love for logan is the main reason, i do think that fear was a big part of why roman didn’t want to engage w the pierce deal. but i totally disagree with people considering that to be cowardice. i think it makes a lot of sense for roman to feel fear towards logan bc his dad has deliberately cultivated an atmosphere of terror and he has clear abusive tendencies. idk i find that calling roman a coward devalues what seems to be a pretty rational response/emotion towards an abusive man. i liked that quote you shared from the tvline interview w kieran but was wondering do u have any further thoughts?

totally agree re: fear nor necessitating cowardice especially in the case of roman whose relationship w his father is absolutely defined by fear ! i think rome’s fear of logan played a role for sure, but people have been misconstruing his fear of his father (which is the core of their entire relationship and by extension roman’s relationships with literally everyone, honestly) for fear of, like, “losing.” and while the fear of losing to dad is definitely there — who wants to get their ass kicked?! (and rome knows they def would get their asses kicked) — i think his main motivations are more like emotional, instinctive, and visceral than the fear of just losing in a business battle. it’s all about family and love for him, always is, always has been.
the reason i emphasized love rather than fear as his motivation for not fighting dad is because i think his fear of his dad is so deeply interwoven into his love for him — i’d argue it’s a defining feature of rome’s understanding of love as a concept. there’s no love if there isn’t the constant fear of loss, of being thrown aside, of abandonment. love for roman is always a matter of punching up, of proving to someone that doesn’t care about you that they should care. if the power dynamic were ever to even out, if the fear of abandonment and the feeling of inferiority were ever to dissipate, i don’t think roman would be able to comprehend it. love for him has been defined by logan and his relationship with him, which has always, always been rooted in fear. any love that isn’t is not a love he understands. fear is simply part and parcel for love. one is almost unimaginable without the other — if you don’t care about someone, you wouldn’t be afraid of losing them; if you aren’t constantly afraid of losing someone, then you don’t actually love them.
so while roman’s fear of logan plays a huge role in any and all decisions he makes (esp regarding family and business), if i had to choose one motivating factor, i’d say love. he’s afraid of the harm logan could cause him, but more than that, he’s afraid of losing him. that’s the difference between roman and shiv/ken — despite everything, roman still wants to have a relationship with logan. he holds the ideal of Family close to his heart and almost delusionally clings to it. he still thinks they can rebuild their relationship and be one big happy family. if they start fighting logan, then they can’t, and they won’t.
i’ve seen some people say stuff about how roman is trying to make the emotionally healthy/mature choice for himself, in that he knows what going back to logan would do to him, he knows how easily he’d fall back into the same patterns that are so detrimental, and he wants to keep pursuing this new version of himself he’s been discovering these past few months in LA. but i don’t think he’s making the decision out of self-preservation — he’s trying to preserve something, but not himself. he’s trying to preserve his family, or at least his hope for it. he could never admit that to shiv and ken because that’s not something the roys are ever supposed to think or do, but that’s his core motivation, i think: family and preserving it. that’s all business was ever about for him, after all; originally he only cared about the business as a means of maintaining relationships with his family because that’s the only love language they speak. even now, although he knows a lot more about the business and has stronger opinions on how it should be run, i don’t think he cares about it in the same way the others do.
i really think that nearly everything roman does is about family and his desire to maintain relationships within it. i think this holds true even (and almost especially) for the times he betrays or hurts his siblings — if he’s forced to make the impossible choice between his siblings and his father, he’ll almost always choose his father, because that’s the relationship he’s at most risk of losing. there’s something unconditional about the siblings’ relationship — i don’t think any of them would ever call it unconditional love, but there’s always this sense of ‘no matter what happens, i’ll make fun of your dumb hairstyle at thanksgiving and you’ll kick me in the shin.’ it’s logan he’s at risk of losing. if you have to bring scissors down on one of two strings, you’d probably choose to bring it down on the thicker one — that way, there’s most chance of both being left intact, even if one is damaged. that way, there’s no total loss. fear is still a key part of the way they love each other, but i think it manifests differently because they are the only people on earth who understand the fear inherent in being a child of logan roy. i think roman is still afraid of losing them, but bc his relationships are so defined by him being the one without power in them, he can’t imagine anyone (sibling or otherwise) would be so hurt by him that he would lose them.
tbh i don’t think he gives himself the credit of being a full person in his relationships — he is just there to be affected by others, but he doesn’t have enough weight to affect anyone himself. i think he kind of believes the only way any relationship would end for him is the other person deciding he’s boring/useless/not worth their time/annoying/etc. if they hurt him, he won’t leave, he never would — his role in a relationship is to get kicked and stay put, and he’s had practice doing exactly that his whole life. he doesn’t think his own actions would have consequences for other people even those he loves, not real consequences, because a lifetime of not being taken seriously has convinced him that yeah, he is not to be taken seriously. no one cares enough about roman to be hurt by him or to be afraid to lose him. this is (one of) his fundamental blind spot(s) in relationships, and why he keeps hurting loved ones while seemingly not understanding the hurt he caused. we see this with his siblings in Too Much Birthday and with gerri in their… incident. he doesn’t think he’s enough of a person to people to actually cause harm, he doesn’t think any of his actions could actually have any long-term consequences on anything. but he is, and they do. (actually i wrote a whole post about this after Too Much Birthday came out if you for want to hear me ramble about roman even more for some inexplicable reason)

we acc spend alot of time having deep talks about the world and life in general, (i told him ab the backrooms lore and it messed w his head for weeks) which is a side of him he rarely shows to anyone (also he listens to me rant abt daily pop culture developments bcus he lowkey loves the celebrity drama) he's rlly protective, and even moreso bcus of how my anxiety gets. in a crowd this man is standing in front of me and blocking my view of everyone (he also subconsciously pulls me into his side when we're walking in public bcus my autistic ass will see one thing and wander off never to be found again) im always talking like talk talk talking and he pretends he isn't listening but he's literally able to repeat today something i mentioned two weeks ago - he's attentive, shows his love through actions rather than words. if i even make a face that gives away that im uncomfortable being somewhere, or my social battery is dead, hes taking me home no questions asked not a care as to who says what.
im an affection junkie - physical touch is my thing ! and hes so big! so im always pouncing on him for bear hugs and he acts so unimpressed and cocky abt it like "oh you missed me? im not goin anywhere relax" but he acc melts bcus when was the last time someone gave him affection?? he prob thinks im a figment of his imagination lolol

He's gruff and protective and difficult and incredibly stubborn. like that time you two fought because he was ignoring what you were saying and he flat-out refused to acknowledge your demand when you called him out on it. to be fair, he'd come home after an eight-hour shift and you'd started talking his head off, but it wouldn't kill him to listen. he wasn't paying attention when you were talking about that new hello kitty cafe with the fun milkshakes and the mini donuts that you wanted to try. hell, he ended up falling asleep on your shoulder after brushing off your argument and as much as you wanted to remain angry at him, you'd softened immediately upon seeing his tired face, all eyebags and troubled frown. and he did make it up to you later by taking you to said cafe and proving that he had been listening, though when you brought it up to him, he pretended not to know what you were talking about. but deep down he cares for you and he's trying — you know he's trying and you don't want to make him feel bad for things he can't control. a lot of the concerns you should bring up to him, you don't — you want this relationship to be easy and safe. you want him to feel comfortable with you the same way that you feel comfortable with him. even if sometimes he comes home with a busted lip and bloody knuckles and sends your heart skidding against your ribcage. but what matters is that he comes to you first and he comes home to you. so you know that no matter what, no matter how he's feeling, if he thinks he can talk to you or not, he'll always come home to you. and even if you doubt his commitment sometimes, he knows that you're home to him and he'll do anything to keep it that way.

David Harbour wanted to lose weight. the Duffers did not ask him to. they didn't intentionally make someone “worthy” of love after weight loss.
lawd love a DUCK, the weight loss on its own is not the issue!! it makes sense that Hopper lost weight after essentially being starved for a year. it's not about the weight-loss, it's how that weight-loss is FRAMED.
the Duffers could have taken the body neutrality route of just choosing not to write fat jokes, or have any characters comment on it at all. but they didn't do that! Hopper jokes about his weightloss so it's framed as a Good Funny Thing even though it's literally the result of TORTURE
alternatively, they could have actually framed the weightloss as a byproduct of trauma. they could have had joyce, Murray, eleven, etc express concern that jim is literally a shadow of his former self liket, "i am so sorry they starved and tortured you. that's awful" instead of making anti-fat jokes. if Hop just said to Eleven, "I stole your look, kid" without the fat joke before it, that would have been so poignant!! because it would have framed how he looks as a result of similar trauma to Eleven's instead of a "well, at least i lost weight!" which is sooooo harmful!
THEY ALSO LITERALLY FRAME HIS NEW BOD AS SEXY!!!! as much as i am obsessed with and deeply love the hornyness of the church scene, its so fuckin weird that Hopper is covered in scars and bruises and has clearly experienced extreme weight-loss as a result of PAIN. but the way his body is filmed in that scene is like "woof! Hopper is battered but he's sexy now. look at those abs" cannot tell you how weird it felt to see Hop's literally tortured body being sexualised. we don't talk enough about how the male gaze fetishises male bodies in gross uncomfortable ways enough too. again, it's not the fact that he lost weight that's the issue, its how they chose to frame the way the audience is meant to feel about it
david harbour's personal weight is none of my business. but how he and the Duffer Bros chose to contextualise and frame that weight-loss in their big show that over a billion people watch is something they can be held to account for. especially if it leans into fatphobic tropes - intentionally or not.
idk if you're the same commenter who left an eerily similar reply on one of my asks that also said something like, "but joyce clearly did like him before weight-loss. plus she dated that other beefier guy"
first of all the other guy, Bob was brutally slaughtered and was completely undermined as a love interest by every other significant man in joyce's life (including Jim) so not great fat love interest rep there. and again, it doesn't matter that joyce liked Jim before because the show writers decided Joyce and Hop actually hook up very specifically in a scene framing his traumatic weight-loss as sexy from her point of view. that is some framing that signals fatphobic tropes about fat/large people being more worthy of desire after weight-loss, whether it was intentional or not.

I just want to get it off my chest that after Jk’s performance in Times Square last week it really hit me all the sudden how much the company wants him to be the big pop star. I had heard people talk before ab how Jk’s promotions for seven/3d/golden were loads different than the other members solo projects but it didn’t really hit me until I saw him start to sing in Times Square. I know hobi played lolla and New Year’s Eve and Yoongi literally had a world tour so I’m probably being irrational a little.
I think it was just a little shocking to see jk up there like that and I couldnt help but think about the other members and how much I miss them as 7. It was like I could suddenly see jk as this big pop star and it scared me a little? And I know that’s selfish of me, I feel so guilty to feel that way
I also saw that jk passed 40mil spotify listeners, more than bts has currently and more than any other kpop soloist has reached before. I don’t know I’m just worried about scooter and the company pushing jk, idk if this is selfish but I want them to remain as seven and everything just feels so uncertain right now, I don’t know. Not sure if I’m even making sense haha

I totally understand. JK’s performance in Times Square hit me hard too. It was the first time I think the whole pop star thing really clicked in place for me and I saw the whole vision of what he’s been doing with Golden. I was kind of star struck in that moment and it really left a big impression on me. So I get why that moment may have really impacted you too.
And I don’t think it’s selfish of you to feel that way. You sound very kind about it. I’ve seen a lot of ARMYs express similar thoughts and I’ve felt that way a few times myself. Sometimes you’re just really hit with that longing to see the seven of them messing around in interviews or playing in the background of bangtan bombs or the insane rush whenever they drop new music or perform some insane stage together. Some of the solo performances have been really good but have occasionally left me with a kind of longing? But you’re not alone. I think a lot of ARMYs are super eager to see them back as seven which is where some of those kind of tasteless “hurry up and enlist” jokes are coming up. It’s pretty different from the beginning of the year when ARMYs didn’t even want to mention the “e” word.
I don’t actually think SB is trying to snatch JK out of BTS. I think they’re just being loud about his achievements because they want to advertise and highlight their whole A&R thing and uplift HYBE US through him. I also think that JK is being given a bigger push because he’s the only member who has released a commercial album, so his promotions match up with that. FACE and Golden and Indigo are very different albums with different goals and different ambitions, even if there seems to be a disconnect between their own goals and what fans think their goals should be. I do think HYBE should have done more for the other releases, but I don’t think they were neglecting them because they only want JK to succeed. I just think they were being cheap honestly. It’s not like JK was given all this push without conditions.
I also think JK is helping BTS stay in the public eye while the group takes a break. They’re actually all reaching different audiences and growing their brand in different ways which is kind of cool. I think Jhope was trying to reach a new crowd in the hip-hop community for example and I’ve actually seen a few people pulled in from OTS because they were J. Cole fans and checked out the RL after. So I think JK is pulling people in too by keeping BTS in the minds of that particular crowd. Notice how he also always introduces himself as “Jungkook of BTS”. He’s not trying to dissociate himself from the group at all. None of them are.
Also Spotify MLs aren't really the best metric to gauge popularity. There’s just a lot of factors to it including playlisting, and JK currently has four songs on the biggest and most coveted playlist on the app. JK also has a lot of collabs with popular artists who are actively releasing and promoting new music rn too which helps his MLs. BTS haven’t released a proper album in like three years and their last group song was an unpromoted fan song from the summer. The fact that they have so many MLs and so many daily streams despite all that is absolutely insane, especially when you consider most ARMYs are focused on their solo music which is spread across seven different profiles. BTS just seriously have such a massive amount of casual listeners. JKs stats are extremely impressive but I do think a lot of people are really underestimating how insanely popular BTS is and are putting too much emphasis on certain things like MLs. But when he passes their peak I’m sure you’re going to hear a lot of people trying to claim he’s bigger than the group. Twitter rn is just a dumpster fire from all directions though so I wouldn't take much you read on there too seriously.
I just think a lot of people are underestimating how insanely huge BTS is, not even musically, but also just as a brand. It’s pretty rare for people to know who the members are individually honestly (at least in my country), but a lot of people I know have heard of BTS. There has literally never been a group like BTS before, there’s just really nothing to compare them to, which is what I think has a lot of people tripping up. It’s impossible to have a “Justin Timberlake” of the group for example when they’re all individually capable of selling out stadiums, something not even some of the most popular western artists can do.
Anyways, I totally empathize with how you're feeling lately, and no one can really say for sure what will happen in the future, but I’ve personally only grown more confident as CH2 has gone on that they’re going to return as a group and return strong. Group releases will probably be slower and they’ll probably all still have a focus on their solo careers, but they seem to really be looking forward to being a group again because they keep bringing it up. They’re all also so insanely ambitious, I’m sure they’re thinking about how to take some of their records back and how to break some new insane record no one even imagined possible. Also their solo careers are just getting started too. We might see Jimin doing that stage he told Hobi he’d do in Antarctica and Taehyung in Hollywood so I wouldn’t be worried about anyone falling behind either.

^ lil context 4 dat is, aurora is definitely queer as shes talkd ab her attraction 2 ppl in da past & shes had a girlfriend be4 too. i think she mentions dat she feels different romantically in regards 2 men n women. but also she doesn label herself really, but i think this gives more insight into this song. as well as ive noticed ppl talkin ab her includin some of her own more 'weird' mannerisms n well. the dance is weird n silly too (/affectionate!!! its gettin added 2 sky soon like i talkd abt in dms, n im boutta spam it everywhere) n i think it an incredible move too.
i think cure 4 me can also b related back 2 auroras neurodivergence, which she has talkd ab before. she mentioned bein made fun of @ school 4 bein autistic (altho i don think she was ever diagnosed w it) n also bein put on adhd medication in da past - pretty sure dats her official diagnosis. but yeah. honesly, jus from watchin the way she carries herself n moves n talks in interviews & lives, she was always so clearly different & felt closer than other artists 2 me. like nawt in a 'wow shes so weird' way like sum ppl say. idk theres an inherent sense of belongin w dat person cuz shes so much like us too. man i started cryin but anyway i luv her lots she really mean lots 2 me.
exist 4 love is very beautiful too.. i luv da reference 2 the birth of venus, i love da influence of 1920/30s music too like many mentioned.. it make me melt into a puddle sumtime. we rly do exist 4 it huh.!!!!

ok so turns out my previous theory ab mallory and edgar being neuman’s parents is like 50% less outlandish than I initially believed SO I'm gonna expand upon it a little bit. no idea how all of this fits together but here's some random observations that I think potentially could be relevant to this (or also could just be me reaching):
I'm still suspicious of the whole grandkid situation, especially the bit about the teeth not being found (which ik other folks have pointed out as possibly pointing to their deaths being faked). not entirely sure what the real situation would have been, but it would track with mallory's past not being what we've been led to believe. also neuman has a daughter who has yet to have any notable role in the plot so thats at least one grandchild right there.
as far as interactions between these three characters go they've been pretty limited. we've never seen mallory and edgar interact in the present day, we've only recently seen neuman and edgar interact (and that was a part of the reveal of him being her dad), and we've never seen neuman interact with mallory without another person present (so like. if they were actually on the same side we've never been presented with a situation where they'd reasonably drop the facade)
obligatory "neuman didnt pop mallory's head in the courtroom despite apparently having no reason not to" post
this one's SUCH a reach and I invite mockery but. that one scene in episode 7 where the whole gang is talking about the trial and neuman tells mallory something along the lines of "I guess we'll have to trust each other" and then they exchange a knowing smile™️? I feel like thats one of those subtle breadcrumb things you look back on after the big reveal.
seeing mallory and edgar meet in the past is setting up for them to interact in the present again (like even if this theory isnt correct at all we'll see them interact in some context mark my words)
this is really opinion-based but I kinda feel like the reveal of edgar as neuman's dad was sort of,,,,, anticlimatic? like here's the thing: it feels like the kind of plot point that shouldve been a big twist but it was almost too easy and too early in the season. having the entire Big Twist reveal be "mallory and edgar are working together and they're a (married?) couple and neuman is their daughter" is too much to cram into a single plot twist thats dropped on us all at once, but having the reveals be shown to us gradually (edgar as neuman's dad right off the bat, subtly showing us that edgar and mallory have, at the very least, met before) and presenting mallory's involvement in the situation as the Big Twist would make sense as to why the edgar reveal happened so early. idk this could also just be me expecting a huge twist when there isn't one.
how absolutely brutal (and entirely on brand for edgar who is like perpetually ten steps ahead of everyone) would it be for ryan to go through everything he did to escape vought only to end up back in edgar's clutches being raised by his wife?
again I have NO idea how any of this would fit together plot-wise this is just Vibes only. but also I feel like thematically it would work to have mallory as one of the big bads to really cement the whole thing of the system truly being rigged.
tl;dr I'm going to keep pushing this delusional theory that I have no actual proof of until the show proves me wrong

ARCHERY LESSONS
now this is complicated…. Because neither Apollo twins (Dave + Rose) know how the fuck to use a bow. Its more of,, them calling for their dad like “pls don’t let us fuck it up” and Apollo just kinda “okay be cool”
Like, Dave got more of the music aspect of Apollo, along with some healing and yk,, flocks (haha I’m so funny) and Rose got light, arts, and also a bit of healing as a treat. So idk why they’re expected to run the archery practice but they are!!! Because they’re kinda either the oldest Apollo kids, or simply the only ones,,
(Context on “the only ones” is just trials of Apollo, i imagine he’d be less uhh careless with the number of kids he has after THAT experience lol)
(Haven’t decided if canon should be canon bc,, that’d just make this a crossover but also TRIALS!!!!! anyways)
Chiron makes an effort to lead as many as he can, but he can’t exactly control when he’s needed elsewhere lol
the twins just kinda make sure to give offerings every night like “don’t let us fuck this up PLEASE” it’s great
Equius is a big enthusiast of these lessons, even if he isn’t very,, good? He tries but (like in canon) he just can’t get the right amount of pressure to put on it?
June is also surprisingly okay with a bow and arrow!! She’s just cool like that B)
Jade tried once and never again. Her hands were shaky and she almost shot someone’s eye out?? Didn’t matter too much to her tho, she’s much batter at hand-to-hand and sword fighting.

now I kinda already said who has in the club, but I never rlly talked about it much!!! So here’s that
Review: dnd club is basically the flarp group, except restricted to dnd bc they larped too hard and Mr.D and the Apollo kids were tired of all the injuries lol!! Its Tav, aradia, vriska, and terezi, tho I might add more nerds in the future even though they’re not,, yk,, the flarpers
Anyways Vriska DMs and is so insufferable about it but they’re too into the story now to really give up?? Plus fighting so much can be fun sometimes
Theres also the honorary members, who r just spectators that come by to watch their friends play!! That would be June and Sollux lawl (might add more)

CAPTURE THE FLAG
ohhhh boy do these games get heated. Listen, okay, when you restrict a group of kids from hurting eachother while role playing, what makes you think they won’t take advantage of a game that is literally just that…
Vriska is the CTF equivalent to those try hard gym kids (being a daughter of Nike). She is just so extremely into the game it’s insane!!!
Hephaestus kids also kinda also go hard, yk finding an excuse to test out the stuff they make!! Dirk more than anything, and also to kinda test out his strengths n shit cuz he’s lame
Dave and Rose sit on the sidelines because,, healing and also they have an excuse to sit out so they WILL be sitting out
Gamzee is usually put to watch and guard the flag idk it just makes sense? He doesn’t mind tho, he just sits around and fends it off when he can.
Karkat and Feferi seem like the type that would sort of scout the area? Like, while someone guards the flag difectly, they stop any surprise attacks from a bit father. Feferi tends to stick next to the lake, and Karkat is just placed wherever (he is, after all, luck).
While I do think Terezi and Vriska would make such a good leader combo for CTF, I have a small little feeling that Mr.D already has them clocked and just does not let them team up because that is too many injuries!!!! It only reduces them by a bit tho, being on opposite sides simply making them a taaad bit more competitive

HORSEBACK RIDING
The amount of accidents is actually insane,,, though it’s more of bruising than anything that would need Apollo kid action.
I don’t even have to tell you the people who would have an absolute blast.
Nepeta and Equius hang out near the stables the most, but that doesn’t mean the pegasi are any less loved :3 Gosh, they are definitely pampered.
Dave probably falls off the most often — not because he’s not skilled, but because he forgets he has to actually hold on (It makes sense to me, trust).
June really really enjoys flying around. That’s not exactly a big scenario, I just felt like that needed to be included. She likes the freedom that comes with it!!

that's totally understandable,, from the way i see it a majority of the asian population that goes by undiagnosed is v large,, and i'm not basing this off of any actual studies though i know there are some out there- but rather just the role culture (at least in most east asian cultures is as far as i'm qualified to speak for lol) plays in mental health makes diagnosis and treatment,, idk and just going by undiagnosed makes me sad that there are ppl who think this is the norm and that it's something you are expected to get over bc it's something "everyone goes thru" :( i very much relate on the front of gaslighting urself/being gaslit into thinking u just can't handle struggles that "everyone else manages to manage well" n that rlly sucks im sorry beb </3

yeah like most of asian countries i feel like. in our culture mental health is seen as something that is seen interjected with "adulting" like when you grow up you're supposed to feel like this and it's your duty to like make peace with it and if you try to seek help for it your family members kinda take it like a failure like you couldnt even deal with this? there's just a whole lot of stigma surrounding it and on top of that, therapy not being that widely available in south asia is a huge problem.

Am I the only one who feels like the new phases of marvel aren’t gonna be that good (or good at all)? There’s definitely gonna be some amazing stuff like BP2 (even though that’s this current phase), etc, but everything else I don’t have high hopes for.
I don’t think She-Hulk is gonna be great. It might be… okay. Marvel has been doing this thing in which their stuff looks promising, and falls flat.
And I feel like they’re also just shoving tons of content down people’s throats. Idk.

she-hulk is probably not going to be a favorite. i’ve watched all of the marvel shows and like i’ve mentioned, only mk and wv stood out and are worth my rewatch imo lol
there is a lot of content. i won’t argue with that. but i think that it’s kinda fun at the same time to have these shows coming out between the movies. i think it’s all a bit rushed but that could be more on disney than marvel studios?
as far as the new stuff goes, i think some of it is falling flat bc it doesn’t add to one main storyline that the infinity saga did. the individual movies were individuall storylines that still impacted a whole bigger plot. we’re not seeing that with the Multiverse saga and that is because we don’t have the bigger villain introduced really. phase 4 imo is similar to phase 1 where it’s building blocks that will make sense later
everything that were used to in phases 1-3 were connected somehow via a reference or a cameo or the post credit hinting at the same thing. but phase 4 is also, imo, more ab director’s projects than a bigger story. MoM was very clearly a Sam Raimi film. TLAT is clearly a Taika Waititi film. there’s no visual cohesion and it makes the projects feel individual and disconnected. when you look at them individually, they’re great - aside from some VFX issues but that’s another can of worms - but when you put them as a whole, you see the multiverse thing. okay cool. but what’s the big bad? what’s the major issue that the hero’s have to band together to face?
ALSO wanda should’ve been an avenger villain bc i think her villain arc/watered down house of M run was rushed and could’ve been so much better as a bigger threat but that’s neither here nor there
