so you want to know about my theory on thomas zane and alan wake! thanks so much for asking, I'm happy to share.

Y'ALL SEENT MOONKNIGHT? alright so follow me on this:

first and foremost, to clarify before I begin - the Dark Place and it's Dark Presence is real and exists

There is a Finnish auteur who comes to America with Barbara in the 1960's

when Barbara dies, the auteur experiences a split - the creation of a new alter - The Diver.

And in that very step, you realize I'm talking about DID. DISCLAIMER: Dissociative Identity Disorder is a very real psychological disorder that should be taken seriously and with respect, and those who have it (systems) deserve respect and privacy as well. This theory is in no way meant to mock or belittle or villainize any systems out there.

The Initial Split: the traumatic event(s) that happened to Alan (the name of the child before the split) occurred at a very young age, obviously. Before he developed a personality, according to studies on DID. And all we can gather on the parents are of what Zane and Alan have co-written about [Alan's] mother and a father he didn't know. It is stated that Linda spent most of [Alan's] life in psychiatric care for a yet-to-be-if-ever disclosed reason. I'm not saying she also had DID, as it is not inherited, but children of those with disorders can be more prone to developing their own.

it's possible a specific traumatic event that acted as the catalyst for the initial split involved drowning, or water somehow.

EITHERHOOT, back to the Child. DID can exist and not be realized until well into adulthood. So the Child goes about life, becomes a poet, a writer, a director. He creates the character of The Diver due to an intense fascination with the darkness of the worlds that can exist in deep, deep bodies of water (lol same) and a want to explore those worlds.

At this point in time - Before Barbara Dies - these are occupations that the host has - not separate alters. The Diver is a character, also not an alter (yet; I'll get there.)

But Cro, if Thomas is the host for the majority of this time, why is there no trace of him existing except for maybe a poem? Well, because Thomas Zane was not born as Thomas Zane. When the Child was born, he was named Alan Wake - at least on any and all legal documentation. Tom's wife and friends and colleagues all knew him as Tom because that's how "he" (the system) introduced themself to everyone. Tom Zane was the first Primary Host - the alter who Fronts, or uses the body and interacts with the outside world.

So let us begin again: Thomas Zane is a Finnish auteur who comes to America with his wife Barbara in the 1960's. He is the primary hosting alter of a system he possibly does not even know exists.

Barbara dies. Zane tries to bring her back with the power of The Dark Place. It fails. He carves out Barbara's heart. A split happens. The Diver emerges.

He is an Emotional Protector, but it's also likely he is a Fragment Alter, as well as a Fictive - an alter that doesn't fully develop their own unique attributes; and Fictive because he is based on a character Tom had already created. At least to start.

Tom is still the host. He has control. He and Barbara have fallen into the Dark Place.

the Dark Presence begins to try to manipulate The Diver. Tom, who is still the primary host and while trying to maintain the health of the body and fend off corruption, wants to defend The Diver. To him, The Diver is the Light, the Protector, the one tasked with processing the loss of Barbara. Because even now, the Diver is still a part of Tom. A Fragment. The Diver needs Tom to complete him, and so the Diver refers to himself as Tom as well.

But Tom is a poet, and he knows that with any Light, there also comes a Darkness. And so, to save himself and to save the Diver, Tom writes. He doesn't necessarily know that he's having any effect on reality. The way for an artist to vent emotions like fear and confusion is to create. And he would never truly make "himself" the main character - he's an auteur, he would never be so gouche. So he changes a few key aspects.

He doesn't mean for it to happen. He didn't know the extent of those inside the system, or even that they truly existed within him at all. But he writes a character - a siphon for the darkness, really. A sacrifice to the Dark Presence, as if to appease it.

Now, it is well established that writing in the Dark Presence less so fully creates something from nothing, but really just nudges things in one direction or the other.

There's a name that comes to mind - something that people used to call him when he was younger, and it always confused him. He writes a character named Alan.

Now, Zane is not so cruel as to make Alan simply a sheep led to the slaughter. and darkness itself is not something necessarily evil, per se. Within himself is a fear and a want to leave this place. Writing is escapism. It is self-preservation. Alan can be a good man that is struggling with his own devils, just as Zane deals with the Darkness he feels within himself. Alan just wants to leave.

And so Alan has an antagonist. Inspired by The Diver, the Champion of Light within himself, Tom gives unto Alan his own Herald of Darkness. He can't decide on a name for this individual. It doesn't come to him as easily as the Diver or Alan did. He gives it a few tries, but redacts all of it. In the end, and only in his mind, he refers to this devil as Mr. Scratch, but really "scratch" is just a concept that he can't think of a word for.

And so, within this Darkness, the only true way to escape that we know of is to make a sacrifice. Zane can't sacrifice Barbara, she's already dead. The Darkness had already taken her body and he knows that now. He refuses to sacrifice The Diver or Alan - they feel like a part of him.

But Mr. Scratch is just as much a part of him as the rest of the system. Zane figures he is willing to sacrifice that part of himself - the evil within.

So into the Dark Place Mr. Scratch is sent. Is it enough? Can he finally get out?

Well, while every alter in the system has a level of agency, just as The Diver is a Fragment of Zane, Scratch was really a Fragment of Alan. Even Zane established that much within his own writing. So really, the sacrifice was Alan's to make. It was a battle Alan had been fighting, not Zane.

So Alan gets out. The alters are of a system, but while Alan is Hosting, it could be said that the Alters are left in the Dark Place. Time and space don't work there as they really should, so chances are, the System could persist without a physical body.

It's not a lake, it's an ocean. Perhaps Alan emerges from he Dark Place in Cauldron Lake and simply doesn't remember traveling across the country. Zane "wrote himself out of reality" and so that could very well effect Alan's memories. It could be possible he emerges directly into New York City - where Zane had based the character's place of birth. Regardless, Alan get's to New York and attempts to live a normal and healthy life.

When Alan escapes the Dark Place, it's probably 1999, or some time close. The internet both exists but isn't infallible. Documents can be "replicated" if lost. The country is having a wild time, it wouldn't be impossible for a 33 year old man to emerge from nothingness. So what if he doesn't have any ID on him, maybe he was houseless for a time.

Because Zane "wrote" Alan's background, and it is common for someone to write what they know, Alan's life has a lot of similarities to Zane's. Alan "knows" his past. Doesn't remember any Darkness, though. Don't know what you're talking about.

Alice hears about the program and brings Alan to Bright Falls.

Within the overlap, the System can reconnect. But Alan remembers nothing about any of it. Doesn't remember the System, the town, the lake, or the Darkness. But everything and everyone remembers him very well.

And, while Scratch was sacrificed to the Darkness, well. That doesn't necessarily mean he died!

The System's own mind place was just the writer's cabin, but it was possessed and corrupted by the darkness.

Mr. Hatch and Mr. Door are not necessarily the same. Mr. Hatch exists in reality, but perhaps Mr. Door is an Introject Alter who is also the Gatekeeper. Interesting idea, but I doubt it's likelihood.

Mr. Scratch, as he never truly "died" or left the system but had been made to succumb to it, is a Misguided Protector. He wants to protect the system from the Darkness in theory, but really he wants to prevent the circumstances that brought them to the Darkness instead. And so, Mr. Scratch thinks that they can't lose another love of their life if he kills her!

NOTE: Mr. Scratch was not so "evil" in the beginning, but he became so when sacrificed to the Darkness. But as each alter has a level of individuality and agency, while the Darkness managed to possess him, it has not managed to possess any other alter.

Linda Wake is the system's mom and birth mother. But when Tom wrote Linda giving Alan the switch, that was based on a memory of her giving the system the gift as a child. who was fronting at the time is unknown. Perhaps Alan and Tom co-fronted parts of their childhood, but Tom was the primary, as Alan is more introverted.

Any and all times Alan exhibited "insanity", that was fully induced by the Darkness. People with DID and other mental disorders do not always exhibit such symptoms as he had, if ever. Each case is unique.

The Darkness did not cause the trauma that produced the System's DID in this theory. Tom/Alan lived a life without any paranatural influence until moving to Bright Falls, though it is likely he was a parautilitarian. He is a partially a victim to the darkness, but more importantly, he is the hero of his own story.

(The system as a collective is the hero. Maybe Lan and Tom have their own paranatural abilities - Alan's involving writing and Tom's being creating movies.) But within the system is also their own enemy.)

If you've ever read the graphic novel The Wicked + The Divine and like the involvement of the gods of old and Odin, Tor, Ahti, and the like, I guess i could kinda see Tom/Alan as a "vessel"(?) for Loki. Complicated individual who means well most of the time, but has a dark side, and every interpetation of Loki depends on the perspective of the audience, which is a heavy theme in the game.

Really, i just love the idea that he's not involved in the ongoing godhood of those around him at all. He doesn't have the name of a Norse god - he's just some fuckin bloke. His wife brought him someplace and he got sucked into a fucked up scenario. Maybe The Dark Place is fucking Jotunheim and that's why Saga, and Tor, and Odin and everyone is drawn to it. They are there to protect the outside world from Jotunheim. Ahti isn't part of the same pantheon, but he is a god of water, so he's just chilling as the innocent bystander - though he has an investment of course. And then a mortal accidentally walked into their bullshit. But since he's a mortal and a creator of things, he is held in high regard. Gods really only have as much power as their worshippers give them in their stories.

The Dark Place could be Jotunheim, and maybe each resonance in the Remedy Universe is a jötun or the jötun were based on what resonance are individually or idk I could go on. reality influencing art influencing life influencing art inf- [gun shots]...

I'm tired.

(edit: reading back I initially said Barbara's death created Mr. Scratch. the entire situation with Barbara and his carving out her heart in my mind actually created the Diver, I meant to say. Scratch came later.)

How do I participate?

You don’t have to subscribe to anything or announce what you’re doing, you just have to post your work on the appropriate day and tag me on the body of the post using @gallavichthings. It’s important that you tag me properly so that I can be sure to see your post and reblog it.

What types of works are accepted?

Any kind of original fan work is accepted, including but not limited to: fanart, fanfiction (no minimum words required), graphics, gifs and gifsets, videos, and fanmixes. Yes, meta and polls are also accepted (though I do request that you either try to keep them within the theme for each day or post them on the Free Day).

When can I start posting?

I’ll always make one initial post for each day, at 12am GMT (check here to see when that is in your time zone). After that, post away!

Can I still participate even if I don’t have a Tumblr account?

Absolutely! Just submit something here (http://gallavichthings.tumblr.com/submit).

Can I post on Twitter or Instagram?

Can I make one work that fits two or more themes?

Sure thing. I only ask that you post it on the day of the last theme included. For example, if you are posting a work that includes the theme from Day 1 and the theme from Day 4, post it on day 4 (just make sure to tell me that it includes both).

Can I write a multi-chaptered fanfiction?

Yes, and you don’t have to post everything either. When you do, just be sure to include either a masterpost, or the links to the previous chapters in the beginning.

Can I include other characters/pairings in my work?

Yes, as long as Gallavich is still the focus.

What if I can’t finish on time?

The Gallavich fandom is ALWAYS happy to see new fan material, so just post it when you’re done and tag me, ok? The same goes for people who can’t finish a work on the assigned theme day; you can still post it on a different day during GW, just make it clear which day it was made for.

I created this blog because I could not find a blog that has this same premise- a place where you can submit general confessions, ones that don't follow a specific topic. I deeply apologize if there is a blog out there that is like this one, I did not mean to steal the idea.

“Help my Cat” Scam Going Around

Have you received an ask in your inbox from an account that previously wasn’t following you, pleading for a signal boost on their vet-related post? I got one today, but something felt fishy. Or perhaps “phishy” is more accurate?

Here’s the ask:

Now a couple odd things right off the bat. This is a blog I’ve never seen or interacted with, who wasn’t following me prior to sending the ask, so I immediately wondered how they pulled my name to ask for help. And while the world in general is a shitshow, so I can sort of see why a person would default to saying it “isn’t the best time to ask for help”, they say it with such confidence without knowing me at all.

Odder still, from their posts-- which at least do look extremely normal and human-like, down to the mishapocalypse profile picture-- we don’t share any interests aside from... well. Cats.

The other odd thing is them specifically requesting I reply privately, through DM or a private answer. I wouldn’t think much of it except they’re already asking me to publicly share something on my blog; if I’m going to answer the ask, why can’t I do so publicly?

I scroll through their blog some more. Their pinned post is, indeed, asking for help with their cat:

Weirdly, though, an earlier version of this post uses a completely different name for the cat??

This is bizarre to me and my red flags are pinging louder. Maybe it’s innocuous, though, I mean, it could just be a nickname or something? Why would you change it though?

Also, the post’s ratio is weird-- 101 reblogs to 44 likes. I suppose not too shocking if they’re doing this use-an-ask-to-get-a-boost tactic widely, but the ratio is pretty extreme. I check the notes. Every single reblog with tags has some variation on ‘boost’ or ‘signal boost’; there are no comments. No one has mentioned knowing this person, no one has vouched for the legitimacy of the post... but two mention that they were asked to boost the post.

*EDIT: Per a polite anon, I will clarify that signal boost/boost tags themselves aren't a red flag; what bothered me was that the post's ONLY interaction history came from boosts from seeming strangers. An active fandom blog, active enough to think posting a plea for financial help might get traction, SHOULD have at least one or two mutuals or friends who are willing to push the post and vouch for its legitimacy. Because the only engagement was from people who had clearly been approached via ask, like me, I got the heebie jeebies.

Okay, I’m doubtful enough that I’m not comfortable boosting this post myself. But let me check one more thing.

I search google for the exact phrasing of the help-requested post.

Ah.

There’s well over a dozen blogs pulled up with this exact phrasing. Most of them use the name “Koppi” instead of either “Ashel” or “Biscuit”, but a few use “Ashel”. The oldest result, from 2016, uses “Ashel”; more commonly, these results are from 2022 or earlier this year and again, most say “Koppi”. Also interesting: basically none of these posts exist anymore. Google can identify the exact wording even beyond what I included in my search query using whatever demonic powers allow it to reference removed content, but they’ve clearly been deleted.

Additionally, which I clarify for those like me who attribute Google’s quirks to demonic powers rather than an actual understanding of how it works: if the dates didn’t make it clear, these aren’t the blogs in the notes of falesyorac’s post. I cross-referenced the names. It’s not pulling up those reblogs, so presumably the majority of these results at one time came from someone who drafted and posted the wording to their blog, not from reblogs.

Maybe it was once a real post, maybe it’s always been a scam, but evidently the content of the post has been stolen and recirculated at this point. Along the way I found this as well, an anon warning someone who must have reblogged a version of the scam post:

So this is at least partly confirmed as a scam from another source.

Please be wary, do your due diligence before you put your money anywhere, and block & report falseyorac. I’m not sure the nature of the falseyorac blog originally; it may have been a real account that got hijacked, it may be a very convincing fake, it may be a real person’s blog who is trying to to leverage their innocuous appearance to pull quick money with a beggar scheme. Regardless, it is evident there is not a genuine Ashel/Biscuit needing help today and that whoever holds the falseyorac account right now is trying to pull a scam.

One more thing-- one of those reblog’s tags I showed earlier.

I also have a tag for reblogs of cats. (It’s “cats”.) I suspect this is where this particular iteration of the scam is pulling its targets from-- after all, people who reblog cats enough to tag them must care about them, right?

Finally, I am tagging the people who reblogged falseyorac’s post with tags (there’s too many for me to do everyone who reblogged it at all) below the readmore-- if I messed up and tagged the wrong person and/or you want your name removed, please just contact me and ask. Gardening Plants: 10 Harvestables / All Seasons / No Glow

This set of mods is adopted from MonoChaos, whose original set was called Gardening Plants, All Seasons, No Glow, and 10 Harvestables.

What These Mods Do

Depending on which version you select, these mods do some combination of these three things:

Make your harvests better, with 10 fruits/vegetables per harvest for most plants

Remove out-of-season status for your garden plants, so that any season is garden-harvest season for players with the Seasons EP

Make your base-game Forbidden Fruit and Growfruit garden trees not glow

What These Mods DON’T Do

GP4 (Vampires) mosquito plant, the EP11 (Cottage Living) mushrooms, and the EP09 (Eco Lifestyle) meat wall do not have 10 harvestables. My co-conspirator Eluchil is hoping to add this feature for some of these, but it won’t be possible for all of them.

The Crystal Tree and the various alien glowing plants are not included in the “no glow” feature.

Wild plants are not affected.

Plants for packs you don’t own are not added.

If you’re looking for “All Seasons” without 10 harvestables, I recommend gettp’s Gardening for all Seasons. It does, however, conflict with Gardening Plants No Glow.

Installation

Pick just one of the versions. For manual downloaders (not using the Curseforge app), extract all .package files from the .zip folder and place them up to 5 folders deep in your Mods folder. The “spawn slot” files created by MonoChaos are needed for those plants to have 10 harvestables. When you’re done, delete the .zip file.

Known Conflicts

Any other mods that modify home-garden and public-garden harvestable plant tunings, including:

gettp – Gardening for all Seasons

A list of the XML files edited by this mod is available by request.

Rules For Requests:

I will not accept any request for the following: *Songs that are overly sexual * Songs that have a lot of swearing (by excessive swearing I mean a bunch of racial slurs, and fuck every other word. I can bleep some racial slurs but I’m not looking to sit there and re edit an entire track just to make it work. One or two is okay though that’s easy enough to take out. ___________________________________________________ * Please limit characters on the track to 3 for my own sanity. It is possible for more but too much work. *If your song is a duet please include two characters or I will have to pick a second one for you. Unless you actually want only one character to sing both parts and if that’s so include that as a foot note. *Because of the influx of requests meme songs are very low on my priority list so just keep that in mind with requests. *I have the right to refuse any request for any reason. As I’m doing this for fun the reason very well just might be “I didn’t want to”. And if that’s the case don’t take it personally. *don’t send requests for characters I don’t have . So please check my ever growing character list.

* I don’t fill requests in the order they come in. I jump around and do the ones that I want to do. I can’t stress enough that this is a hobby. So of course I’ll have more interest in doing songs I like/know. *Please keep requests 1 per post, you of course may send as may as you like but one song per ask is what I allowed. That way I can post it with your song. (it does not always let me post in audio format and sometimes I have to do it as a video and I can only do one video per post. So if both songs have to be video format I will have to screen shot the post and do it twice anyway.)

* please do not spam your request or keep messaging me to ask about it. especially off of anon as I have no way to actually reply without having a public conversation. If you’re curious about your request dm me in here or discord. * A common misconception is that a song has to sound like the character, this is not true. A character can sing any song of any gender, they will make it their own, so long as I can get a clean separation of audio the song does not matter. I can pitch it lower for them if it sounds strange in a high voice and vice versa.

I will delete requests if:

*it didn’t work for whatever reason. *it’s a repeat. So join the discord to search or check my character tags to sort through on tumblr. You can also just dm me and ask me directly and I can tell you. *they broke any of the rules above

* if you send a character that I don’t have listed *Incomplete information *if you send in a song for more than 3 characters

* if you request 2 songs in the same ask. Yes this includes you wanting 2 different characters to sing the same song separately and not as a duet. It still doesn’t always let me post. It’s a technical thing I wish tumblrs audio system wasn’t so garbage but it is and that’s what we have to work with.

* I had zero interest in doing the song for whatever reason. It could be maybe I didn’t like it, it’s too difficult. It’s a joke song (I got too many serious requests to mess with these right now). This IS a hobby after all if the cover does not sound fun I won’t do it. Don’t take it personally though you can always send in a new request.

* I’m not going to do an entire album for someone so if you keep requesting songs from like the same movie or album I’ll just stop doing them. I have too many other requests to mess with all that. So please be considerate of other people and don’t keep requesting songs from the same movie or album over and over again. Or at least space it out a couple months.

*I also have little interest in redoing the same song over and over with different characters or the same song just in a different language with a different character. But again don’t take this personally it just becomes tedious and boring redoing the same song over and over and over again.

PSA: You may notice that there will be a bunch of covers posted by a certain characters at once. Like maybe one day I will post 4 England covers and no one else, this isn't favoritism. Sometimes it’s just easier to pick a character and bang out a bunch of their requests than sorting though a bunch of different ones. I’ll try not to do this very often though as I do like to keep it mixed and not focus too much on one character as I love all my bots as children I’ve made and like to use them all as often as I can. So you may see me refer to them as my sons a lot. I mean that in the sense that I created them. It’s a joke don’t take it seriously lol. Like I may refer to Denmark as ‘My Danish son’ it’s just a term of endearment for the bot itself. You might wonder “Why does she feel the need to specify this? It’s obviously meant as tongue-in-cheek and she doesn’t actually view the character as their child…” and my answer to that is “Welcome to Tumblr”.

Please don't ask me for links to my characters as they do not exist. All my voices exist within in my personal PC. They are not hosted anywhere. So the answer will always be 'no'.

I do not answer requests in the order they are received. If I’m excited about one I will jump to do it even if it just came in. Please keep in mind this is a hobby, free and I’m doing it on my own time. That being said please don’t spam me to get to your requests. There are days where I either don’t want to or just don’t have time to make any covers at all. I do have a job and a life. And then there are days I might be really in the mood to make covered and edit music and I’ll make 10 in a row. And there will be days where I don't feel like doing any at all. If you really are curious about your cover please dm me or send me and ask OFF of anon that way I can actually reply to you.

my very very very long introduction to the welcome home fandom + set of rules

hello everyone!!!!!!

i got into welcome home a little while ago now, and i have finally gotten enough courage to put my headcanons and writing out into the world! and of course, you can request! (when the askbox is open ^_^ of course!!) i do have a few obvious or not-so-obvious rules though, as per every blog! rules below the cut :) it's long!

you CAN; ✦ ask for '(character) and reader'! it is the only thing i specialize in after all on this particular blog lolol, types of pairings that that i don't do are in my 'cannot' section, and if your idea is not there, dm me and i'll see if i can do it! :o) ✦ if you guys have anything in particular you'd like to share, i would love to hear it! i encourage it!! i like hearing everybody's ideas on things! personal headcanons, ideas or thoughts on a character or two, it's all a-okay with me! you can even ask me what i think on a character @:) ✦ ask for fluff, some light angst, hurt/comfort, go wild with it! headcanons galore!!!!!! ✦ ask more than once!

this is a general editing blog ! I always accept requests for things listed on my sources , but will also sometimes be opening my ask box to non-listed sources ! if these types of requests are currently being accepted, they will be noted somewhere in my description, so keep an eye out !

if you would like to denote your request as for a kin, fictive, d/a, etc, feel free to include in your ask for me to denote the dis-allowance of certain tags from anyone but the requester.

you can send as many requests as you like at once, but please send them one request per ask ! it makes it easier on me to stay organized and also for me to not have to finish multiple edits all at once, since i usually pick away at the ask box during my spare time !

you do not have to request something media related ! i will also always accept any types of edits themed around something like an aesthetic, a mood, a song, etc. with the only exception of icons.

credit is not necessary , but i DO necessitate reblogging any set you save/use please, and you are not allowed to claim any of my edits as your own !

I run a zero tolerance policy here in terms of bigotry. I do not have a specific DNI, but I'll block you if i see you engaging in that sort of behavior. be nice to each other. i would also rather discourse blogs not interact with me.

i retain the right to delete any request i am not comfortable completing for any reason. i do not have a formal blacklist, but please just use common decency in terms of what you request.

Pairing: lee felix x gn!reader

Genre: angst, fluff

Summary: you had broken up with felix a year ago suddenly, telling him you wanted to focus on your career and so should he. a year later, he’s still trying to find a new normal after being numb to the world. he’s so numb in fact he doesn’t feel the earthquake that ripped through the city. he only notices when you message him for the first time in months.

A/N: hello! so this is my first fanfic that i’m posting on here now that i have a new tumblr dedicated solely to kpop. i’ll be posting a lot on here hopefully and currently my requests are open! this wasn’t proofread so if anyone wants to send me any edits about grammar, spelling, punctuation etc. feel free to! i wrote this based on felix singing “if the world was ending” during the chicago show of the maniac tour, his voice was heavenly and this idea popped into my head.

I was distracted and in traffic. I didn’t feel it when the earthquake happened.

Felix was on his way back to the dorm when the ground started to shake underneath the company car. Apparently it was significant enough to cause all the traffic on the road to slow down to a slow pause, all the tail lights lighting up in an angry red at the sudden disruption. Felix wasn’t really paying attention, music blaring in his headphones while his mind was lost in thought. He found himself doing that a lot lately; getting so lost in thought that the world disappeared around him and he blocked out reality.

It wasn’t until one of his bandmates hit his shoulder did he snap back to the waking world. He pulled out his earbuds and looked back at Lee Know whose eyebrows were furrowed up. “What?”

“Did you not feel that?” The oldest member in the car asked, seeing the confusion on his face. When the Australian shakes his head, he continues, “There was a massive earthquake that happened just now.”

“When we get back to the dorm,” Their manager starts, driving the car and starting to pull ahead. “If there’s any aftershock, meet in the lounge.”

The man nods, then slowly puts his headphones back in and hears the notification sound rip through his music.

It’s been a year now. Think I’ve figured out how, how to let you go and let communication die out.

Felix wasn’t exactly expecting you to message him just then. It had been quite a while, close to four months since he last heard from you. You two had dated for quite a while and things were going well for you two. But a year ago, the relationship ended and you two went your separate ways. It wasn’t a bad break up, per se, but it still hurt for you both nonetheless.

You were friends beforehand and you somewhat stayed friends afterwards, though things weren’t the same as they were before. They never are. When the relationship ended, you two continued to talk for a while, still depending on each other for things and support even though it hurt him to see you. So he started to filter himself out of your life. Trying to get him to heal from the sudden absence of you, he started to distance himself. He would take longer to respond to you, he would lie and tell you he’s busy, he would avoid the places he knows you frequent even if he’s the one who introduced you to those places first.

Now that it had been a year since the breakup, he found things are simultaneously easier and harder. It was easier to stop himself from messaging you but he couldn’t bring himself to delete any of your messages. It was easier to fall asleep when he didn’t think about you, but on the nights he craved your existence it felt like burning agony. Felix could find other things to smile about, yet he would always want to share those things with you.

From Felix’s perspective, he didn’t know how long you two would last but he had hoped it’d be a long time. You had been together for longer than any of his other relationships which gave him that hope. Then when things started to come to a head for the both of you in your lives, something changed. He didn’t know when you had gotten so serious about future plans, so he was taken aback when you had told him you felt it’d be better to go separate ways then and there.

It was a civil and intense conversation. Neither of you raised your voices, presented pros and cons of the relationship, and talked through future plans. The one thing that hurt him the most in the conversation, though, was how you had insinuated that he couldn’t guarantee what his life would be like with you the more famous he got. To him, it felt like you didn’t trust him to love you, to take care of you, to protect you. That wasn’t how you intended that statement, but it’s what he felt.

So you two broke up.

He didn’t know you were waging a war against yourself every day because of what you thought was the right choice, he didn’t know how much you wanted to be enough for him but never could be in your own eyes, he didn’t know that you blame yourself so much it had affected your whole future.

Felix: surprisingly no, but everyone else did. you okay?

It didn’t take Felix long to see another response from you, and his heart twisted roughly in his chest.

y/n: not really…can I come over?

But if the world was ending you’d come over, right?

His heart rate quickened at your question, knowing what his gut and what his head said are two very different things. He didn’t know if you were just waiting for a reason to message him or had forgotten about him until now. He decided to swallow down his resolve and message you back.

Felix: yeah, I’ll be back to the dorm in about ten

I tried to imagine your reaction. It didn’t scare me when the earthquake happened.

When you saw the message from Felix, you decided to wipe your mascara tear stained eyes and get yourself around. You hadn’t been scared from the earthquake that you felt. You had already been drinking for about two hours and were emotionally drained and wrecked. If anything, the earthquake shook you back into reality. You were jolted out of your spiraling thoughts by the sudden shaking of your apartment. Some of your photo frames fell from the walls. One of your ceramic figures fell from your shelf and is now sitting in 3 pieces on the hardwood floor. The cup of last night’s tea you had left on the corner of the coffee table is now spilled on the floor. Your apartment was an accurate representation of how you felt. Discombobulated. Broken. Disastrous.

You didn’t expect Felix to answer you at all. You weren’t stupid, you knew he had distanced himself from you. You knew he was building a wall between you two. So you could only imagine his reaction to the intense shaking. But his reaction told you more than he actually did. So you pick yourself up and stumble around to grab your things.

But it really got me thinking, the night we went drinking, stumbled in the house and didn’t make it past the kitchen.

When you were with Felix, things were great. You had anything you could ever want: a loving, kind, generous, well mannered man who would do anything to make sure you had everything and more, even if you didn’t ask for it. In your eyes, he was perfect. He would listen to you on your bad days and offer you advice or just someone to complain to. He would treat you to the pastries he bought on his way to your place to surprise you. He would tell you every day, sun up and sun down, that he loved you.

When you would go to secret bars and drink, disguising his identity to ensure your privacy, the best conversations would happen. How do bees smell when they don’t have noses? What hair color should he try next? Would an octopus wear eight shoes, eight gloves, or four shoes and four gloves? Those conversations always left you two laughing unapologetically.

And when you returned to your place, you would barely make it to your living room before he would tackle you and pepper your lips in kisses. Behind closed doors, Felix was the most affectionate man you had ever met. He couldn’t get enough of you. He had to be touching you, holding you, kissing you. So he would fall back on the couch with you, holding you securely in his arms as he praised you and worshiped you. Everything felt perfect.

It’s been a year now, think I’ve figured out how, how to think about you without it ripping my heart out.

You knew it was your fault. You knew it was your own insecurity that led to you breaking up with him. But he was a champ when you explained your reasoning. You had told him about how you were supposed to be moving up in your work, up to essentially the director position of your branch. You would need to move when that happened, away from him. You told him with the success of his recent tour, he would only get bigger and bigger and it would be harder to hide your relationship from the public eye. You said you both deserved more than to deny each other’s existence, especially when distance will separate you even further than you already were. And that was true.

What you didn’t tell him was that you were afraid. You were afraid to lose him. You were terrified that with not being there anymore, he would find someone much better than you and leave you. You wouldn’t blame him, there are many other people out there who had a lot to offer him that you couldn’t. So you let it eat away at you, him never knowing your true feelings about that.

You hated yourself and your insecurities for drowning out your sense of logic. Logically, you knew Felix would love you no matter what. But deep down you felt like you didn’t deserve it. You would think of who would be better for him and that list only grew as time went on. Your little shred of hope was still there when you kept in touch with him, hoping he would tell you how much he missed you and wanted to get back together. Pitiful thinking, you knew, so you stopped thinking. You didn’t think about him. You didn’t think about yourself. You drowned out every thought you could with work and alcohol at times. It was the only thing that prevented your heart from tearing itself apart.

You were simultaneously shocked but also expectant of how Felix reacted. He was surprised at your sudden proclamation of wanting to break up, told you the reasons he didn’t want to, but eventually conceded to what you wanted. He agreed with you that the future was uncertain, that he didn’t know what the future had in store for you two. He didn’t know how hard it would be to keep your relationship blossoming.

What hurt you, which logically shouldn’t have, was how little he fought to keep you two together. You knew Felix, he would do whatever you wanted. So if you wanted to break up, he wouldn’t trap you in the relationship forever. But he wasn’t overly emotional about the breakup. He told you that it was okay, that he understood, and wanted what’s best for you. He didn’t push on you that he was the best thing for you and vice versa, he didn’t plead to make a schedule of regular times you can meet or facetime to make sure the spark was kept alive, he didn’t tell you not to worry about the future and focus on the now.

So you broke up.

You didn’t know he cried himself to sleep for two weeks straight after the breakup, you didn’t know how much he beat himself up for not being selfish and telling you he wanted you forever, you didn’t know he regretted everything he might have said to make you believe you didn’t have a future together.

But if the world was ending you’d come over, right?

You had called an Uber to take you to the corner store, still very intoxicated and in no condition to drive. The air was chilly and you had on the only thing Felix didn’t ask back from you: the sweatshirt you wore when you came home from work until it stopped smelling like him. You stumbled from the store down the block to the dorm. You still remembered the combination to get into the building, burned in your memory from all the times you had come over.

You went into the elevator and your vision blurred, from the tears or the alcohol you couldn’t tell. So when it gently stopped on his floor, you wiped your eyes and walked out to find his front door. Being face to face with the dark oak was overwhelming but there was no way you could sprint out of there in the condition you were in. So you knocked.

It didn’t take more than two seconds for him to open it and be face to face with you. He still looked as gorgeous as ever, bare face and precious freckles adorning his cheeks. His face fell when he saw the state you were in and that is what ruined you. You never wanted to see him so concerned for you. His arms quickly pulled you into his chest and he held you tight as you started sobbing into him. Your arms wrapped around his neck while he clutched you around your waist. You couldn’t control your sobbing as he picked you up and took you to his room and closed the door behind him. As he sat on the bed, he could hear you mumble one thing,

“My whole world is ending and falling apart.”

Would you love me for the hell of it? All our fears would be irrelevant.

Felix gave you the time to cry it out before he said anything. He waited until your sobs were down to sniffles, when your body swayed slightly instead of shaking. He listened to you as you told him everything that happened. You told him how your future was fucked. You lost the one man you loved with all your heart. Your promotion was ripped from you because of your poor performance in those final months. You had to beg your landlord to let you stay in the apartment that was already being leased to someone else. You knew exactly where you fucked up and it was all because you broke up with him. You told him your insecurities you felt and still feel. You told him how you were wrong, so very fucking wrong.

You sit there, wiping your eyes for the millionth time, looking at his chest. “I never stopped lovin’ you, ‘nd I don’ expect you to take me back, I wouldn’ take me back bein’ like this either.”

Felix rests one of his hands against your cheek, feeling how warm it is. He notices just how much you pent up, evident in your tears still falling after an hour of you being here plus however long you were crying for before you came over. His heart breaks seeing you like this, how you both made dumb decisions and are paying the price.

“I wanna go back to that day ‘nd tell myself how stupid I am for lettin’ you go.” You mumble, eyes closing as you press yourself further into his palm.

“Hey,” He gently scolds you while his own tears well up in his eyes. “You’re not stupid, alright? I’m sorry that I made you feel insecure. It was my job as your boyfriend to make sure you were loved and cared for and knew how amazing you are. And I didn’t do my job.”

“Felix…” Your hand rests on his wrist, seeing the water flow down his cheeks.

“I’m not afraid to admit I was wrong, too. I should’ve fought harder.”

No, there wouldn’t be a reason why we would even have to say goodbye.

You smile at him lightly. Your arms wrap around his this time, giving him comfort at how both of you fucked up. His breath is hot against your neck, burning his face into you. This is the most comfort both of you have felt in that year of turbulence, navigating life without each other. You don’t have to think about the future right now. You can focus on each other, being together, sharing what’s been troubling you for the past year.

That night was the most refreshing night you’ve had in a while. You didn’t let each other go as you sobered up and listened to him, as he rubbed your back while you talked. There was no problem solving for you two; you both knew you couldn’t do that tonight. Whatever you two had to work through had to be saved for a later date when you had the mental fortitude to have that kind of conversation. But one thing Felix said returned that spark of hope you had,

“I don’t want to say goodbye.”

No, you and Felix weren’t meant for each other. You knew that from the start. You could see the flaws in him and he could see the flaws in you. You both had topics you would disagree on. Even at the peak of your relationship, you two argued. It was what you learned and what happened afterwards is what built you to be for each other.

You both learned that every opinion, thought, idea, and stance was multifaceted. You didn’t only have to see one side. Not everyone reacts the same way to situations. There was much more to love than finding someone attractive and enjoying their company. It was the intrigue of the multifaceted, the balance of stability and spontaneity, the reassurance and acts of being appreciated, the way you were around that person and how they made you feel, the growing separate but together, the growing together in the relationship. Being apart for that year made the both of you realize what exactly your love was lacking and that it’s not the end. There’s still room to improve.

You weren’t made for each other, but you could make yourself better for each other.
