I’m rewatching Resurrection of the Daleks on a whim, and every time I revisit it I’m always surprised how much of the Hartnell and Troughton Dalek stories are frothing in it. The duplicates are both The Chase and the Robomen, the time corridor and the Daleks setting traps and snares in past/present/future is from The Evil of the Daleks. The Doctor putting aside his usual self and care for his companions in the crusade against them, again, Troughton’s duo. It’s a fun contrast with Davros’ presence, he bringing a nastier Re-Animator bite to Genesis canon vs the Daleks gradually realizing that, no, he and they genuinely cannot occupy the same space without destroying each other.
It’s also funny to me how relentlessly bullied so much of this plot and the mistakes the Daleks keep making have been over the years and according to fandom wisdom, as if.. it’s not… the point? As if the script isn’t completely aware? They’re absurd, hateful, monstrously violent little idiots, so blinded by their ego and paranoia that, yeah, they keep making major mistakes. Their plot has too many steps bound to collapse, the Supreme watches everything and everyone wandering around the prison station as if he controls everything, too cowardly to leave his control room, and then panics and blames everyone else the moment things being to spiral to the gory finale. I dunno. This is a nasty little serial, but it’s my nasty little serial. Warriors of the Deep is much the same way for me.

The Red Circle pt 1
What is the red circle? Who is the red circle? Why is the red circle?
“Well, Mrs. Warren, I cannot see that you have any particular cause for uneasiness, nor do I understand why I, whose time is of some value, should interfere in the matter. I really have other things to engage me.” So spoke Sherlock Holmes and turned back to the great scrapbook in which he was arranging and indexing some of his recent material.
I might be wrong, but I think this is the first time in the stories we've seen Holmes be dismissive and kind of rude to a client without having seen them give him a reason. And we can't even say that Mrs Warren hasn't given him a reason at this point, because the story starts in the middle of the conversation. She might have been a right arsehole prior to this.
But this story does start out with far more of the vibe of adaptations than I'm used to.
Scrapbooking is vitally important, though. Not to be interrupted.
But the landlady had the pertinacity and also the cunning of her sex.
Watson ensuring that we are reminded that sexism exists.
The following little speech Mrs Warren gives doesn't indicate that she was being terrible before this story started, so I guess Holmes really was just Like That here.
"Why, bless you, Mrs. Warren, if I were your lodger you often would not see me for weeks on end.” “No doubt, sir; but this is different. It frightens me, Mr. Holmes. I can't sleep for fright. To hear his quick step moving here and moving there from early morning to late at night, and yet never to catch so much as a glimpse of him—it's more than I can stand."
No, that's exactly what it would be like to have Holmes as a lodger. Only punctuated with strange people running up and down the stairs and with the occasional threat of violence against your property.
But maybe this guy is just a ghost. Ghosts deserve privacy, too.
Tumblr media
“He asked my terms, sir. I said fifty shillings a week. There is a small sitting-room and bedroom, and all complete, at the top of the house.” “Well?” “He said, ‘I'll pay you five pounds a week if I can have it on my own terms.’
Alright, now I'm suspicious. 50 shillings a week is £250, roughly. And £5 is twice that. Anyone who is willing to pay double for something is automatically suspicious. He's just handing out the equivalent of £100 in cash every fortnight. It's like the Copper Beeches all over again.
Tumblr media
“It was his particular direction that we should always, when he rang, leave his meal upon a chair, outside his door. Then he rings again when he has finished, and we take it down from the same chair. If he wants anything else he prints it on a slip of paper and leaves it.”
OK... I've got to assume at this point that the man in the rooms is not the man who rented the rooms. He went out, other guy came back. There's no other reason that no one would have seen him at all. Someone's hiding from something up there.
"What can it matter to him that his landlady should have a word of his writing? Still, it may be as you say. Then, again, why such laconic messages?”
Doesn't speak English and his first language is not written in the Roman alphabet, I'd guess. Single words mean not needing to construct sentences, printing would be easier for someone not used to the alphabet. This coupled with the title of the story makes me think Russia.
“But surely you or the girl enter his room of a morning?” “No, sir; he looks after himself entirely.” “Dear me! that is certainly remarkable."
What? A man who can look after himself?
Tumblr media
The sexism, it cuts both ways!
"But, dear me! this cigarette stub is certainly remarkable. The gentleman was bearded and moustached, you say?” “Yes, sir.” “I don't understand that. I should say that only a clean-shaven man could have smoked this."
So it is a different man - or woman, I guess.
or he shaved.
"Why, Watson, even your modest moustache would have been singed.”
This feels like shade. Like something you'd say to your friend if he was doing Movember and couldn't grow a moustache to save his life, but you were actually a Victorian gentleman. It's just got such a tone of 'even your moustache, Watson. Even yours.'
Drag him, Sherlock.
"We have no excuse for an intrusion upon his privacy until we have some reason to think that there is a guilty reason for it."
What a revolutionary concept! I wonder if the modern world could learn anything from this. Probably not.
"I can imagine that the word was taken out of a dictionary, which would give the noun but not the plural."
Rubbish dictionary.
"‘Surely Jimmy will not break his mother's heart’—that appears to be irrelevant."
I beg to differ. I need to know if Jimmy broke his mother's heart. How could you Jimmy? You should be ashamed of yourself. Your poor mother worried half to death and you're out there requiring her to take out ads in the newspaper to try to reach you. Callus boy! Cruel boy!
Tumblr media
"‘Be patient. Will find some sure means of communications. Meanwhile, this column. G.’"
That is significantly less cryptic than I thought it would be. Do these conspirators have no sense of style. Why doesn't the caged whale know nothing of the mighty deeps? Does the ill-built tower not tremble mightily at the butterfly's passage? Can no one say hooray hooray for the spinster's sister's daughter these days? Pathetic. Put some effort into your clandestine communications.
"‘The path is clearing. If I find chance signal message remember code agreed—One A, two B, and so on. You will hear soon. G.’"
Seriously, you're going to publish your code in the paper. Not that it even matters. You're doing a simple substitution encryption of numbers for letters, and you're not even offsetting the numbers at all. These people are very obviously not professional spies. I am ashamed for them.
Willing to bet there is a significant number of people in London who have been following these ads with glee like an Edwardian soap opera, eagerly awaiting the next instalment. There's no way no one has been paying attention to this.
"Mr. Warren is a timekeeper at Morton and Waylight's, in Tottenham Court Road. He has to be out of the house before seven. Well, this morning he had not gone ten paces down the road when two men came up behind him, threw a coat over his head, and bundled him into a cab that was beside the curb. They drove him an hour, and then opened the door and shot him out."
Did not expect the husband to be involved.
In Mystery Lodger's defence, there's nothing connecting them to this abduction. Although the coincidence seems unlikely. Why would they need the husband out of the way, though? Unless they thought the husband was the person hiding?
"What I did not foresee is that we should find a woman, and no ordinary woman, Watson.”
Gender prejudices causing problems again. I did foresee that, which is why I've been trying to use gender neutral terms for the replacement.
What does Holmes mean by 'no ordinary woman' though? I don't understand that.
Also, this makes the people mistaking Mr Warren for her even less believable. I doubt they look very alike, particularly given the fashions of the time and the stricter adherence to expected gender 'norms'.
"The printed messages, as is now evident, were to prevent her sex being discovered by her writing."
Tumblr media
"The attack upon Mr. Warren further shows that the enemy, whoever they are, are themselves not aware of the substitution of the female lodger for the male."
Oh, we're actually addressing that? Thank you. It made no sense. But it does make things more convoluted. So only Holmes and Watson know that the woman has replaced the man.
“Education never ends, Watson. It is a series of lessons with the greatest for the last."
Does he mean death? Is the implication that as you die you think 'well, this was an important lesson for me to learn. Now I know that if I do that, then I die. 😵"
Is she on the run from family? A cruel husband? A cruel would-be husband? A gang? A government?
"A single flash—that is A, surely. Now, then. How many did you make it? Twenty. Do did In. That should mean T."
The substitution cypher is with flashing lights?
That's a terrible idea. That's the worst idea I've ever seen. What if she blinks? What if she loses count? There are twenty six letters. If I had to sit and count twenty six flashes I would go mad. T is one of the most common letters and, as you said, that's 20. This is the least efficient way of doing anything. Morse code exists, and I bet you could get a little printed guide for it that the woman could have had. Or you could have written it down for her. And then you wouldn't have needed to spell it out in the newspaper.
This is the worst. I hate it.
They came more rapidly than before—so rapid that it was hard to follow them.
And by hard you mean fucking impossible. WORST CODE EVER.
P is already 16 flashes, and that's the first letter you've got. Then you've got an R in there? Why? This is torture. I bet the guy was cut off by someone who wanted to put him out of his misery. You know why he was cut off mid word? BECAUSE IT TOOK HIM FIFTEEN MINUTES TO SAY ONE WORD.
Flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash [BREAK] Flash-flash-flash-flash-flash [BREAK] Flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash [BREAK] Flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash [BREAK] Flash-flash-flash [BREAK] Flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash [BREAK] Flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash [BREAK] Flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash-flash
So for that one word, that's 93 flashes. I cannot be arsed counting that long. I'm sorry. I can't. Guess I'm just going to die or whatever then.
Tumblr media
eta: just realised that the 'man who looks after himself? Impossible!' thing is a clue. Oh boy. Of course it's a woman, a man would never be able to cope on his own. 🙄

Don't ask me why I thought of this (I don't even know) but I feel like if Ciel and Lizzie tried to discuss a book...they could but it would be something like:
Ciel: [Brings an extremely insightful although quite edgy at times analysis of the characters and overall theme of the story.]
Lizzie: [She liked the book but was there for the vibe, didn't really think to analyze anything much]
(This ISN'T a "Lizzie is stupid" post. I love Lizzie. She's really smart and capable and if anyone even so much DARES to talk shit about her in those extremely misogynistic or Clearly-didnt-understand-her-character-at-all ways they usually do i WILL become feral.)
People can just like media without needing to over-analyze every detail. I know, it's different from what me and everyone else who's reading this post is used to, but it's something that happens. I get subjected to it every time i watch a show with my mum and I immediately get into deep analysis of the characters and their reasoning for doing things and my mum listens to my reasoning and likes the show but if I ask her a question about what she thinks about a character or smth she's there like "Idk I'm just following the show" WICH IS FINE!! IT DOESNT MEAN SHE ISN'T UNDERSTANDING THE OVERALL MESSAGE OR STORY OF THE SHOW!! SHE JUST DOESN'T JUMP AT THE IDEA OF GOING INTO OVER-ANALYZING EVERY SINGLE BREATH A CHARACTER MAKES THE WAY I DO!!! IT DOESN'T MEAN SHE'S STUPID!!!
So yeah. Although Lizzie would be different from my mum in the way that Lizzie would be able to point out her favorite or least favorite characters clearly - saying what she liked and disliked about them, and even enthusiastically comment on wich scenes she liked the most, wich means she and Ciel could actually have a two-way conversation that isn't like what me and my mum usually do (Me talking non-stop about themes and symbolism and what I think a scene could relate to irl while my mum happily but still silently listens - wich is also fine mind you, I just mean Ciel and Lizzie would go at it differently)
Also i know Ciel and Lizzie would probably prefer different kinds of literature but imo they would be able to find a middle ground. Ciel prefers darker stories, yes, but i believe he himself said he reads almost anything to keep up with what people like for his business, and either way he would compromise for Lizzie. He wouldn't MAKE her read something that could greatly upset her, just like she wouldn't MAKE him read something that is completely out of his interests, like a cheesy romantic novel that would bore him out of his mind five chapters in. They are pretty good at respecting eachother's boundaries most of the time, I feel.
So like...idk, Alice in Wonderland? Lizzie would like the vibes and overall fun colorful story. Ciel could maybe appreciate the non-sense theme in how everything works differently (as in he would sit there, compare it to things irl, and try to understand how the author got to the wilder ideas from there) and also compare it to how things work in the real world. (I haven't read Alice in Wonderland since I was really little - like late elementary or early middle school, so keep in mind I'm not an expert who could give a more exhaustive theory)
I have not read Sherlock Holmes ever (I tried once tho! And I do own some of the books!! I just never got around to reading more than a chapter or smth YEARS ago) so idk how Lizzie would find it, but it IS o!Ciel's favorite author and he loves these books very much so I feel like Lizzie would want to give them a shot. Ciel lets her because although it is a murder mystery, it's not a fully horror novel (be it flat out gore or psychological horror) - (...and also he is excited about talking about these books with someone he's close with, so he gladly takes a risk promising to himself he'll just stop her if she gets too upset about the deaths. You didn't hear it from me though).

TAG GAME: EIGHT SHOWS TO GET TO KNOW ME
Tagged by @santabarbara-skies, aaayyyy! I hardly get tagged so yaaaaaay!
Also this is kind of hard, but I’ll try (and like Em, I’m adding explanations, sort-of-kind-of, but not fancy formatting because I’m lazy).
The West Wing. Still my all-time favorite. Is it idealistic? Sure. Is it preachy sometimes? Yeah. But does it make my bleeding liberal heart glow and hopeful? You bet. Do I want to hug a pillow whenever someone says, “A guy falls in a hole...” or “What’s next?” or “Babies come with hats.” or “He loves teams, I love him so much” or almost-anything-CJ-or-Sam-says? Almost always. So, yeah, it’ll always top my list.
Tumblr media
Psych. Burton Guster, my beloved. I started this show for two reasons: Dule Hill was in it and I just finished the West Wing and needed to keep that connection going; and it a Sherlock Holmes adaptation-sort-of, and I am basically on board for almost anything that is loosely modeled on Holmes. But I stayed for, oh, god, all of it. The two idiots at the center of it all, for Shawn and Juliet, for Lassie, for the bond between Lassie and Juliet, for everything. It is just an absolute delight, come on, son, jerk chicken, Pluto, suck it, meeeeeee, incarcerated in a blueberry, TT Showbiz, MC ClapYoHandz, I would rather fill-in-the-blank, pineapples, Banana as in Bananarama, you know that’s right.
Tumblr media
Friends. Another one that’s definitely dated and contains plenty of sexist, fatphobic, homophobic, and other problematic content. But I have a huge soft spot for this show and would still be one of my desert island shows, if not my #1 desert island show, because it makes me laugh every. single. time. It’s not my favorite show, but it’s the one that makes me feel the most, I don’t know...home? Like I’m going back to this place that isn’t perfect, but somewhere I grew up and so it means a lot to me. And a lot of it really is still funny and adorable and heartwarming, you know?
Tumblr media
Ripper Street. Another one that has Sherlock Holmes vibes, but also includes my favorite handsome man, Matthew Macfadyen. Plus, period drama goodness, with an excellent cast overall, great acting, good writing, and a great ending that’s bittersweet but fitting and satisfying. The character arcs are just fabulous. There are lots of hats and vests. And dry dark humor. And moments that will break your heart to pieces. But others that will give you life. Probably one of the most underrated shows on this whole list, if not the most underrated. Plus the fandom is (still) lovely. Seriously one of the nicest, best fandoms I’ve ever been a part of.
Tumblr media
House MD. The one that started it all for me, and by “it all” I mean my leap into internet fandom communities. So it’s quite special to me. I was one of the only House/Stacy fans on the planet, I think, but that’s how it goes. And more importantly: the friends I made because of this show! The fics I wrote! (Eden in particular, still one of my favorites I’ve ever written for any fandom.) The fics I read! Plus the show itself is my cup of tea, being yet another Sherlock Holmes-esque (Holmes--Homes--House) story on this list. Hugh Laurie just kills it every damn time (although, much like Macfadyen, I just...can’t get used to and actually really hate his American voice/accent, just no, please stop, please just speak in your normal voice, please). The only downside is that it doesn’t have a ton of rewatch value for me, but maybe one day I’ll get back to it again.
Tumblr media
Black Sails. Another awesome period drama that was/is criminally underrated and under-watched. This. Show. Y’all. If you haven’t seen it, just see it. It’s got everything. The characters, so deliciously flawed but sympathetic and layered! Jack my favorite sassy ratboi captain. Flint, everyone’s favorite murder husband. Tits! Fruit! Oh, the production value is gorgeous, the ladies are badass, and it’s just a romp. Watch it.
Tumblr media
The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. Heeeey, another period piece, dramedy this time, though. And one of the more female-centric shows on my list. It’s hilarious, plain and simple. Jewish culture is everywhere in it, which I adore and appreciate. Tony Shalhoub as Abe Weissman and Alex Borstein as Susie Myerson are nothing short of brilliant in it. I love Lenny, but only because I love historical shows that weave in real people (I’m not a Lenny/Midge fan, sorry; I was rooting for Benjamin, even though I didn’t think it would pan out). I can’t wait to see how the series ends. I’ve loved every minute of it.
Tumblr media
The Mindy Project. My guilty pleasure show, and I shouldn’t feel that guilty about it. A show about a successful doctor who struggles to find love and herself in the big city? Yes, please. It’s sweet. It’s absolutely hilarious. Mindy Kaling is so relatable sometimes it hurts (in a good way). I wish I had her entire wardrobe, it’s amazing. Even the supporting cast is adorable and endearing and you just want to hug all of them and tell them they’re doing great, sweeties. It’s a super-sweet pick-me-up show, just a joy.
Tumblr media
And I tag...whoever. Here are a couple: @houseocats @olivelune @scienceoftheidiot @deelaundry @hondagirll

15 questions and 15 mutuals
thank you so much for the tag, @gilliandersons 🤍
were you named after anyone?
my dad says the most beautiful girl he's ever known had my name and he met her in uni but I'm not sure if it's really how I got my name. when my parents were naming me, not many people liked it because it was an old and forgotten name (although it was used in one side of my family frequently back in the day, which I have found out not so long ago). two years after I was born, almost every girl had this name here lol my dad keeps saying I was a trendsetter
when was the last time you cried?
like two weeks ago when I found out my vacation trip for the summer that was supposed to be just my mum & I having a girl time is no longer going to happen because she decided to take her boyfriend with us, too... and I hate him 😔 and he hates me... 😐
do you have kids?
I'm 25 and getting my second Masters degree lol
do you use sarcasm a lot?
almost all the time and it's the reason why I don't vibe with certain type of people but I don't even care 🤷🏻‍♀️
what's the first thing you notice about people?
looks, clothes, the way they speak etc. not to judge who is rich or popular etc. because that's primitive but it says a lot about what kind of person I am dealing with. it says a lot about their background, even their parents' education. I feel like a little Sherlock Holmes then lol and funnily enough, I'm rarely wrong...
what's your eye color?
hazel brown (one eye is more brown, one is more green)
scary movies or happy endings?
both is good! I love creepy horrors about demons and witches etc. but I also love a happy ending (maybe not in a horror movie, though)...
any special talents?
I'm sort of a witch in denial because I kinda don't believe in this shit but it keeps happening to me and I find it funny when I see all those spiritual girls trying so hard with their unethical crystals and paraffin candles and here I am, not wanting this and not vibing with this but still receiving energy against my will
where were you born?
poland
what are your hobbies?
literature, cinema, music, the sims 4 (building and furnishing apartments the most!), some fashion and some history, some mythology
have any pets?
two cats 😊 my baby boys!
what sports do you play/have you played?
I wanted to play football when I was younger and by football I mean soccer just to be clear although saying soccer makes me angry because there's only one football ⚽
how tall are you?
1'69
favorite subject in school?
polish, english, history, culture class

Should You Watch Undead Murder Farce?
Tumblr media
(Japanese title: Undead Girl Murder Farce)
A Brief Summary
In an alternate universe where demons and monsters still exist, one half-oni is living out his days in a fight club, just waiting to die.  That is, until a genius detective manages to catch his eye.  With promises of extending his life in an exchange to end her immortal one, the two pair up - along with the detective’s maid who happens to be handy with a rifle.  The trio solves some mysteries in Japan before going global, searching for the man who wronged them both and meeting some familiar literary figures along the way.
With so many scheming people together - friend and foe - it’s a battle of who can out-think and out-detective each other in order to win the day.
So, should you watch the anime?
Yes!
To be fair, I have a predilection for media (shows, books, whatever) where geniuses keep trying to out-do each other.  I love a person with a plan that’s thinking 30 steps ahead in 5D chess.  And this show is abundant with that character type.  I also like it when a show can keep me on my toes.  Undead Murder Farce kept up a lot of mystery throughout, which also makes it kind of hard to talk about in fear of spoiling things.
The season is made up of several arcs, each 2-3 episode arc involving a specific mystery to be solved.  There is also a general mystery tying things together and giving reasons for our characters to come together.  Our detective trio often clashes with an organization made up of supernatural beings, sometime works alongside vigilantes, and tend to end up meeting a whole lot of interesting folk.
I was a bit skeptical when the show made a change from the Japanese setting to Merry Olde England, and also wary for our detective hero party to suddenly be in the realm of probably the most well known detective in all fiction, but this show managed to pull it off.  Sherlock didn’t steal the show.  Lupin may have. ;)
One of my least favorite characters in Undead Murder Farce is the maid body-guard.  She didn’t seem to have much point in the plot-line besides being sullen and getting into certain… situations… but you know what, I bet there are people who really like her and those situations, so I’m not upset, lol.
The animation is really nice and action sequences flow well.  I am a fan of the character design so that gets a win from me, but I know that’s always a subjective thing.  But if you like any of the faces you see in the image for this article, then you’ll be good to go.
I have to mention the absolute banger of an OP this anime has as well.  It gave me big K-Pop vibes (in a good way).  I did a little digging and the group that performs the OP is part of the K-Pop world, so I guess that vibe makes sense.  It’s a song I can easily recall even half a year later (which is kind of a rarity with the amount of anime I watch), and it sparked joy every week.
For me, characters are a big part of what makes me enjoy a story, so what kind of characters does Undead Murder Farce have jam-packed within each mystery-solving episode?
A slightly perverted and laid-back Rakugo-styled half-oni experiment that can put up a mean fight with a smile always on his face (Tsugaru).
An immortal genius looking for someone to end said immortality - oh and also looking for her body as she’s currently just a very intelligent head in a cage (Aya Rindou).
A military-esque maid who can keep up with the monsters around her, though she also somehow ends up in rather sapphic situations (Shizuku).
A gentleman thief that’s always a few steps ahead of his detective opponents and tends to add a dramatic flourish to all he does (Arsene Lupin).
The big detective himself, full of snark and confident that he is the alpha detective in Europe, despite the supernatural competition (Sherlock Holmes).
The epitome of a polished lady who isn’t afraid to show off her assets and also sink her teeth - quite literally - into anyone who gets in her way (Carmilla).
Plus a whole heaping of other figures from literature and supernatural origins, including the mother-fucking Phantom of the Opera.  Just because.
I skipped on a few key spoiler characters as this anime is all about mystery, and who am I to give it away?
Where does it rate on my personal scale?
S: I will buy it at full price (unless it’s released by Aniplex USA, because fuck their pricing).
->A: I will buy it on sale sometime down the line.
B: I had fun watching it, but don’t need to own it.
C: It’s not my cup of tea, but wasn’t awful.
D: Dropped it.
X: Finished it out of spite, but did not enjoy it.
Undead Murder Farce was a lot of fun to watch, so it gets an A ranking from me.  It was probably my favorite anime of the summer 2023 season, and the show I most looked forward to watching every week.  While some mysteries were solved in the 12 episodes that aired, we’re still missing a resolution for the over-arching plot lines.  I very much hope we get a season 2!

Hi hello !!! I'm here for the Redacted Audios match-ups, sooo Here ya go !!!
Punching Bag by Set it off, I love that band. I've been listening to them since middle school. I like when it says, “So say goodbye to your Mr.Nice Guy you got your wish, he’s rotting in hell..”, cuz that’s when the beat drops and I just like how it sounds.
So I took the test just for this and apparently I’m type 5 “the investigator”. I don’t really know much about this but hope that tells you whatever you need to know. 👁👄👁👍
Not really, but I do love watching movie and drama video essays as background noise while I’m doing something else.
I didn’t have an imaginary friend...so…💀👌. Nah you know what let me make up one. His name was Bob the builder and he was the filler for my absent father figure. 😀👍
I usually end up falling asleep while listening to ASMR, I mean one of the reasons I love ASMR is cuz its great background noise.
I’ve never really wanted to change my name, but I think names like Hyacinth and Rain are pretty cool. They sound like character names and also I love nature so it’s like the perfect match up.
At the moment I really like listening to Milo’s play-through of the Mortuary Assistant. I just find it entertaining to watch and, again, I like to put it as background noise.
Ollie (sorry), I just don’t really find him interesting at all. Which I get he isn’t trying to be a super complex character, like that isn’t his purpose, but because I just don’t have much feelings for him.
H2O just add water and Mako Mermaids were my shit when I was little, and even now I still go back from time to time, I’ve watched all the seasons of both series multiple times over and to this day I continue to be a mermaid fanatic.
I LOVE HUXLEY WITH ALL MY HEART !!! LIKE HE IS SO WHOLESOME AND COMFORTING I JUST WANT TO HUG HIM.
Not really, at least not that I know of, but I do love knowing random fun facts about miscellaneous subjects. More specifically about Greek mythology, space, and folklore.
Gatorade with a ham sub sandwich.
I don’t really know if you are asking about music or ASMR so I will give you both. I’m currently obsessed with ‘EPIC the musical’ . It's a musical about the Greek poem ‘The Odyssey’.
My guilty pleasure is, very predictably, ASMR. I just find it relaxing and I love the stories that can be told through.
Other stuff about me: I’m a Taurus and my mbti is INTJ. uuh I don’t really know what else to say so I hope this is enough info about me. This was pretty fun. I felt like I was having an interview about myself. :]
Tumblr media
Ahhh, a Type Five, INTJ, oh, that is fun (and the same stats as Sherlock Holmes probably). Intellectual, curious, thoughtful, always thinking, always learning… I think a little serenity might do you some good.
Something about the way you talk about background noise while you work and relax makes me wonder how busy your brain must be; does that make sense? (I’m the same way, like I need mental fidget toys to focus properly?) I imagine Cam would be so helpful in that respect, with his even voice and his soothing demeanor.
You know what would be so lovely that I could absolutely imagine? Cam strikes me as a pretty old daemon, not as old as Vega but older, distinguished… the type to love Shakespeare, Dickens, the classics. Just imagine leaning your head on his shoulder as he reads to you, whatever book of whatever country’s lore your heart fancies that day. You get a nap, he gets a snack, everybody’s happy~!
Song:
When your legs don't work like they used to before/ And I can't sweep you off of your feet/ Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love/ Will your eyes still smile from your cheek
I don’t know how I feel about mixing Cam with Ed Sheeran either, I’ll admit, but it’s the vibes. Man strikes me as a romantic who likes a slower, sweeter kind of song- the kind you don’t necessarily dance to but hold each other and sway, you know? (Also, to throw a little bitter in with that sweet, he would actually love you until your legs don’t work like they used to before… and then some. Probably forever.)
Runner-Ups:
Lowkey, I like Morgan for you because he gives off a lot of the same vibes as Cam: sweet, understanding, a good listener. Elliott, I like for you because he would have lost his mind at your absent father figure joke. Don’t ask me how I know that, but he just would definitely have that sense of humor. It would make him literally lol, and that’s just fun /pos
Note: I feel you I’ve had Warrior of the Mind stuck in my head for weeks
Tell me about yourself, answer some fun questions, and I’ll match you with the Redacted boy I ship you with the most! 💌

The Irregulars
Due to the original reason for my listing every single Sherlock Holmes derivated work, I do have to take an interest in the details of those. I also am a Sherlock Holmes enthusiaste, so I also do read, watch and listen to those derivates.
And this includes some of the ones I haven't many great things about.
The better way to know how to feel about a media and criticise it, is to dive into it and make your own thoughts about it. Which is why I watched The Irregulars.
The Irregulars is a 2021 Netflix show, and as such, it falls under the system of 8 episodes for 1 seasons (before, obviously, being cancelled after this sole season).
A first misconception I had was that it was solely a crime drama and mystery show (due to the Netflix and Wikipedia listing) and it is a certain shock when you notice that actually, it is also a fantasy show. But well, I have watched The Empire of Corpses and read Les Étranges Sœurs Wilcox so once the first shock of being corrected within five minutes of my research, I wasn't distraught by the supernatural and paranormal being associated to the Holmes universe.
.
On the wikipedia page, we can learn that not only the creator of this series (and writer of the episodes) is Tom Bidwell, who, during an interview, said:
Sherlock Holmes [in Conan Doyle's books] had a group of street kids he’d use to help him gather clues, so our series is what if Sherlock was a drug addict and a delinquent and the kids solve the whole case whilst he takes credit
This, in my opinion, is a very interesting idea.
While it does suggest that Watson is basically also taking advantages of children to write and publish those stories, it does open the door for many questions, but also many opportunities to talk about drug addictions. (I am thinking about Elementary, among other things)
Bidwell had been pitching it for ten years at the moment of the interview (in 2018), and such a long time of polish can only mean that he has worked on it and it will hold together nicely.
But que nenni.
(I will come to that)
.
We therefore start the series knowing that our dear Watson and Holmes will be most likely morally grey, but also that we will see a lot of the Irregulars, which are, as stated, an important part of the investigations when it's about finding a person in London.
And as we debute with the presentation of the characters, we are hit in the face with this important fact: This show is so aimed at teenagers.
So, I will not judge the acting, as everyone need to start somewhere and we all know about Netflix and its choices in budgets. I will, however, judge the music choices.
Because the electronic music? It breaks everything.
Throughout the show, we have bits of electro popping out, breaking entirely with the rest of the music style and making it stand out so much that every time it came up, it was the only thing I could focus on.
Some bits seemed to try to show the youthfulness of the characters, while others seemed... unnecessary.
Another thing that makes you notice it's for teenagers is the mild swearing and sexual allusions.
Fine. I'm aroace. This sets me off every single time, whether it's for teenagers of for adults. But the first episodes are the ones with the most swearings and allusions, as if it was trying to fit with the current wave of "let's add swearing everywhere". It calms down later on, using swears and swearing more normally.
The rest of the series is intersting in itself, but not a hit. And it would be difficult for it to be, since between the strange choice of music and the trying of including the paranormal the way it is (one person being misteriously gifted while the others are not) and the overall vibe just... brings me flashback of Stranger Things.
We therefore follow the Netflix "diversed teen groups with the GIRL being special and they try to fix the paranormal shits happening".
But I digress.
Of the teenagers, they all fit nicely in their group and their relations are real, despite the weird obligation to have a romance thing in every show where a man and a woman of the same age are interacting.
The prince thing was also a really hilarious trope to slap in this series with the whole "weak and broken prince falls for poor girl".
And the different paranormal cases? They are good in themselves. We see the lowest of the low face the harshness of London and its class system.
The perpetrators are not treated as purely evil. They might not be treated with full compassion either, but we do have the chance to see their point of view and their reasons for doing such deeds. All that while continuing the overall plot.
It's not really something that I was expecting, but I guess I've seen too many USAmerican shows.
But this is a nice thing to have, especially considering the novels, which also had a parts where we learn the history and reasons behind the actions of the perpetrators.
This is, however, the closest we get from the original works.
.
"But Hershel, Bidwell said that the series would follow the idea of Holmes being a drug addict and the Irregulars being the actual detectives. You haven't talked about Holmes yet."
Well.
The reason is because Holmes doesn't fully show up until episode 4 (or something).
The only person we see at first is a very twisted Watson, stalking the kids, before being asking (forcing) them to work for him.
As it turns out, Watson and Holmes used to work together, but again, the drug problem. Watson is therefore left to fend for himself AND for Holmes and is struggling to investigate on his own.
Which is extremely weird, since a very easily noticeable thing with the first case (the one with the babies) is that all the babies were born on the same day. How did Watson manage not to notice such easy information? Not just that but it is said that Holmes has been in the pit for 15 years. How did Watson managed to keep up with things and to survive that long if he can't notice something that obvious?
This was a huge part of my thinking "what the heck did they do with Watson?"
This is also where I noticed that Bidwell followed his idea... in a peculiar manner.
One would think that it was like that since the beginning. Or that the irregulars would be doing that willingly like they do in the books. Or maybe that they would report bit by bit and properly. BUT...
Watson is really strange.
.
Of the characters, I feel like they really wanted to present us is clear morally grey characters, to the point where they kept the essential of the characters but changed them almost to the core.
We have Lestrade who is extremely against the paranormal, to the point of treating Jesse like an object and a tool to reach his goals.
We have Mrs Hudson who's a sort evil landlady. She doesn't live at 221B and instead own many houses in London. I do not know how much landlords from the victorian era were similar to the ones nowadays, but she feels like a parallel to it.
We have Mycroft, which I actually like, compared to the others. Even Holmes and Watson. I like the overhanging PTSD/anxiety and the resulting very slight speech impediment. I also liked how he talked about Sherlock, the way you see the big brother coming out, especially with his hate towards Watson.
Which brings Sherlock and Watson.
Sherlock is... something. To say the least.
Bidwell is unfortunately following in the understanding of many writers of Sherlock Holmes, or he might've been cut short by the Doyle Estate.
He depicts Sherlock as someone arrogant, sure of himself but bordeline on the "absolutely sure", he also seem to like having a public.
While I do understand the thought of having people like Holmes instead of what he says in the books (something about people finding it annoying after a while for him to present his deductions), it makes him out of character.
We also have the extremelly annoying straight take of him getting enamoured with a woman and having Watson mention how Holmes used to say that emotions were something trivial and not useless/hindering to him.
And the point that annoyed me above all: how they constantly repeat to Holmes how brilliant he is.
Holmes is already doing that, and they continue to enable him, making him more annoying.
.
And this is where Watson come in. (I will not talk about Alice. She's the straight plot tool in this series. (in my opinion))
Maybe you've heard about it, but people were saying that in this show, Watson was in love with Holmes. Unrequired, yes, but in love.
Gay Watson? Heck yeah!
Well, it turns out that no. Here's why.
In most of the flashbacks we see with him and Holmes, Watson is manipulative.
He canalises Holmes, but he also refuses thing in his stead and somewhat controls his schedule. For the case with Edith Dubois, he pushes her aside and tell her to come back at a later time because he doesn't want Holmes to get in another case.
Watson says himself that he is the one who brought Holmes' brilliancy out to the world. He says that he saw how brilliant and great Holmes was and that thanks to him canalising him and writing about him, he managed to make him famous and greater, but also himself in the same process.
And that's the core of their relationship.
Through what Watson tells, it sounds like Holmes is incapable of taking care of himself and that in order for him to thrive he needs Watson. All the while, Holmes doesn't seem to notice Watson.
And this is what bring Watson to do dumb shit such as opening the rip the first time around (while, again, manipulating people to get to his goals).
After the closing of the rip and the start of Holmes falling into a pit of despair and grief and depression, Watson continues to take care of him, seemingly continuing to investigate and write about him as if he still was able to function.
We also have the moment when he tells Beatrice (or was it Jesse) that the reason why he did all that was because he loved Sherlock.
And you might tell me "here you have it! black on white! Watson is gay for Holmes!" but I don't see it like that.
Up to that point, I never once thought that Watson was doing that because he truly loved Sherlock.
What I see Watson ass is someone who stumbled upon a man in which he saw potential and then tapped into it. Then the potential, as he rightfully saw, was great and it brough both of them fame and money. And Watson was glad about it, but he already was a bit annoyed at Sherlock's impulses (and most likely always has been).
What I see is a manipulative man who reached greatness and became obsessed with his tool to fame and riches. He is dependent of Holmes. If Holmes doesn't do cases, or is great at those cases, then he can't write about it and he doesn't get recognition or money. So he manipulates everything around them in order to reach success. But the entirety of his plan can be easily thwarted if Holmes loses interest in him, and he feels like it was the case when Holmes met Alice and then when she decided to leave London; which is why he finally lead him to the "possible" location of the rip (which, again, he had opened himself and therefore knew very well where it was since the beginning).
So, the way I see it, Watson is not in love with Holmes. He's in a fucked up dependency and is trying really hard to show to Holmes that he too is dependent on him and not just himself on Holmes.
And in the case where the writers had in reality decided that Watson was deeply in love with Holmes? Well it's a really fucked up writing.
.
So, overall (even though I'm sure I've missed points), this series was okay.
The teens (and protagonists) are well written, and we see proper growth throughout the show, which is better than what a lot of shows try to do.
The story itself is nice, showing us morally grey characters but also to feel for the perpretators even if at time they seem to be holding us by the hand to show us what critical thinking is (but this is a teen show so...).
I am a bit annoyed at the main villain being black and be against the white girl, only for his end to be... yeah.
I'm also annoyed at the depictions of the canon characters, even if I do have to say that the drug addiction part was well done (or at least properly, I would need the point of view of someone who had faced that in order to properly know).
But I'm mostly annoyed at what they did with the relationship between Holmes and Watson.
.
ALSO
Leo is based on the actual fucking prince Leopold, which was 30 in 1884.
The earliest story of Watson if from 1881.
Which means that Leopold should not fucking be 17 in the series since it's been established that Watson has been writing before the first rip incident, which was 15 years prior. Which means that the story takes place in AT LEAST 1896.
But well... they apparently really badly wanted to use a prince and not just another posh guy.

Watching Granada Holmes: Copper Beeches
Oh goody, it’s another one for the Woman in Need category. This the third one in the past five episodes that fits that category. Interesting. Catch up with my other recaps and screenshot posts here.
The opening is startling, and made me think: “huh? What’s happening here?” pretty much instantly.
However, my questions were mostly focused on the man outside looking in. After all, he seems more sketchy than the older man (soon to be introduced as Mr Rucastle), who’s only locking an internal door while carrying some papers and looking annoyed...
I like the bookending that this episode does with its start and finish - especially because it gives us another opportunity for some Watson Amused expressions at the start (David Burke smiles with his whole face).
OMG this argument! Very, very Married/ intimate partners vibe. “You are always in a disputatious(sp?) mood when you choose that pipe!” Burke’s delivery of these words elevates them into a couples argument. And Holmes’s response ends with: “You have degraded me.” Ouch.
And then after a bit more sniping and such, Holmes reveals that he’s actually disappointed/ sad about the uses his deductive skills are now being asked for... and Watson’s whole expression changes too, from anger to comfort. “My dear, dear friend,” he says.
Dear, dear friend, well, that’s an emphatic statement! The shifting emotions, and the way Holmes just hands Watson the letter with a “pfft, read it”... Again. intimate partners.
Note that for all Holmes’s bluster and irritation, once Violet Hunter is in the room, his demeanour shifts. As soon as she reveals the reason she is seeking Holmes’s advice is because “she has no parents or relations of [her] own to ask for advice”. By the end of the conversation, when it turns out Hunter’s “mind is already made up”, he becomes short with her again ... before revealing to Watson he was thinking of how he would advise her if she was his sister.
(I’ve seen some interesting meta about what that comment (coupled with Holmes’s words about crime and the countryside) mean about Holmes himself...)
Natasha Richardson gives an excellent rendition of Violet Hunter in this episode, I really liked her.
This episode is extremely creepy. Right from Mr Rucastle’s proper introduction. "That will do,” and the predatory step, and unasked for touching, and close inspection... and then the rest of his speech! It’s no wonder Violet Hunter was unnerved.
The interesting thing about this episode is that once again there is an Obvious Creep and his not-so-obvious (at first) sidekick.
Mr Rucastle commands attention in the creep department from the beginning, and the physical introduction to his wife is to a woman who appears rather meek and mild-mannered. I was misdirected about Mrs R’s role until the scene with the mirror and window.
However, if you pay attention, Mrs R’s “whims” and “fancies” are there from the start. She is most certainly part of the Villainous Plot.
I still find Mr R the more odious one though, and would hate to be in Violet Hunter’s position - it would be impossible to tell which facet of Mr R is the real one - overbearing creep, or gregarious boffin? Ugh.
The Hair Scene shows that for all Violet Hunter’s strong words, she is still afraid. It’s a big thing to cut your hair like that - and doubly so if you’re forced to, as Violet Hunter is.
And then bam! She’s locked into the grounds, shown the mastiff (so we can add animal cruelty to the Rucastles’ sins), and generally given the impression that Sketchy Things Are Happeniing Here.
Life at the Copper Beeches is full of subtle things that on the surface have Perfectly Reasonable explanations, or at worst, are just a Bit Odd.
However, once All Is Revealed at the end of the episode, these things are suddenly recast as clues that add up to make the puzzle. It’s an excellent bit of storytelling, and I love it.
On that note, there are two points of the episode that are Particularly Suspenseful - the Tower Investigations. Brace yourself for that if you find that sort of thing difficult to watch like me.
And then we end where we began, with Watson and Holmes at home, Watson reading out his conclusion to the case as he’s written it, and Holmes basically conceding the point of the argument they were having at the start of the episode. Though not without a long-suffering glance towards the camera, so don’t look too smug Watson.

[Untitled] Pt. 1 (2.9k Words)
So, listen, listen. I was listening to World’s Smallest Violin by AJR and for some reason got Sherliam vibes, so now this exists. I’m so sorry, but I hope at least some of you enjoy it! Please give me title suggestions.
Sherlock allows his head to rest against the back of his chair, his eyes fixing on the smoke gathering at the ceiling from the cigarette perched haphazardly between his lips. He knows he should open the window—John has been trying to get him to quit ever since he moved in, and Ms. Hudson has threatened to kick him out of the flat over smoking indoors on more than one occasion. Apparently, the smell gives her a headache, and the smoke damages the ceilings and furniture; he made the mistake once of asking if the damage really mattered if he and John were the only ones who would ever live there. The rise in rent the following month was enough to keep Sherlock from pushing the landlady’s buttons for a good while. Still, he can’t bring himself to care about anything besides tuning out his older brother’s scoldings. Mycroft had stopped by for his weekly attempt at making Sherlock find more steady work and actually make something of himself besides a drug-addict “consulting detective”. He can hear Mycroft pacing the apartment as he continues his lecture, “It’s all well and good right now—your Lord of Crime is keeping you in enough work to pay rent. However, once he’s caught or slinks off into the shadows as criminals are oft to do, you’ll be out of a job. If Mother were still alive—”
“She’d be bloody disappointed at the failure she gave birth to.” Sherlock finishes bitterly, removing the cigarette from his lips and holding it between two fingers as he releases the smoke from his lungs. The older Holmes brother stops, all his attention focusing on Sherlock. “That’s not what I was going to say and you know that.”
“It’s what you meant, innit?” Sherlock stands up, stepping behind his chair to open the window and turning his back to his brother. He leans on the windowsill, tapping the ash from his cigarette to the streets below. “Ma always wanted us to be something more. That’s what all the fancy schoolin’ was for, right, Myc? Why you talk all posh and rub elbows with the nobility.”
“Yes, but I don’t expect that from you because I know that we are not the same person. However, that doesn’t mean you lack the potential for your own greatness. You have a brilliant mind, Sherly, and you’re squandering it.”
“Unlike you, pushin’ papers all day as the Queen’s lapdog.” Sherlock’s sarcasm is not lost on Mycroft—he finds himself being spun to face his older brother, cigarette falling from his fingers to the street below. “You know just as well as I do that one of us had to continue repaying the debt of our family—I took that burden so you could find a path of your own and this is what you’ve done with it!”
“I don’t recall askin’ you to make that sacrifice for me.” Sherlock looks his brother in the eyes, face and voice the picture of defiance. Mycroft studies him for a moment before letting the hand he’d used to turn Sherlock drop back to his side, a huff of defeat leaving him. “Just think about it, Sherly. I know you’re better than this.”
Sherlock doesn’t try to stop his brother as Mycroft departs from the apartment. He doesn’t bother to close the door after him, leaving it slightly ajar as he returns to the window and fishes a fresh cigarette and his lighter out of his pocket. Usually, he’d already be on his way to the nearest bar, but it’s barely sunset. John made him promise after one too many mornings where Sherlock stumbled in hungover, bloody, and bruised from whatever nonsense he’d gotten into the night before that he’d tell John when he was going out, what bar he was going to, and when he intended to be back so the doctor could retrieve him if necessary. He understood this rule in principle, but it was particularly frustrating on evenings when John was out with his fiancée Mary and wouldn’t be back until much later.
Sherlock is startled out of his brooding by a gentle knock on the door, followed by a familiar voice that makes his heart leap. “Apologies for the interruption, Mr. Holmes. Judging by your brother’s frustration and your own preoccupation, it seems that tonight may not be the best night for us to have dinner. Shall I come back another time?”
Damn it, he’d forgotten that he’d asked William to go to dinner with him to discuss a case—after all, that was his best reason for requesting the lord’s company without scrutiny. He turns, smiling stiffly at Liam as he stuffs the unlit cigarette back in his pocket. “Of course not, Liam! Just let me grab my coat.”
He moves towards the coat rack, a fake smile still plastered on his face. As he tries to pass William, the nobleman places a hand on his chest to stop him. “Please, sit. We can get dinner another time.”
Sherlock hangs his head slightly, shuffling to the couch like a scolded dog. Much to his surprise, Liam sits on the opposite side of the couch from him instead of in one of the armchairs near the window before tugging on his sleeve. Without thinking, Sherlock obeys the nonverbal request, allowing himself to be guided to lying on the couch, lanky legs thrown over the armrest and head resting in William’s lap. This had been a new development in their friendship—a silent understanding that they were both touch-starved and trusted the other to know when contact was needed. However, the close proximity is something he was still getting used to, and he can feel his cheeks heating up slightly. “What’s on your mind, Sherlock?”
He still finds it amusing that William will only use his first name when they’re in situations like this, like the barrier of physical intimacy needs to be broken first. “Nothin’, Liam, I promise.”
“It doesn’t seem like nothing.” The statement leaves no room for argument, and Sherlock deflates, still trying to avoid eye contact with the nobleman. “Really, Liam, it’s just an argument me and Myc have been havin’ for a while.”
“About?” Sherlock snorts. “Him bein’ forced to have an unemployed drug addict as his only family member. Myc’s not too keen on the concept, never has been.”
He can feel Liam studying him and, not for the first time, wonders if this is how he makes people feel, like a bug under a microscope. He expects some sort of analytical response, some brilliant answer to this problem; he doesn’t expect William to pull his hair out of its usual ponytail before running his fingers through it. “Oi, Liam, knock it off. I’m not a little kid.”
The request is half-hearted, and he leans into the contact slightly, closing his eyes and ignoring the chuckle from the other man. “You feel inadequate.”
Again, a statement, not a question, and one that makes Sherlock's eyes pop back open with surprise. He knew Liam was good, but he’d thought it’d be harder to read that particular insecurity. Still, he tries to play it off with a lighthearted tone.  “Well, who wouldn’t next to Mycroft. He’s the golden child. I’m sure you get that all the time with Al, yeah?”
William stares at him, red eyes partially obscured by blond lashes as his fingers comb through Sherlock’s hair at a languid pace. Sherlock can tell that he isn’t falling for that answer. “What do you want me to say, Liam? That I agree with everythin’ he’s sayin’? It’s true, innit? I’m wastin’ my life on murder and drugs because I can’t find anythin’ else that can keep my attention.” Sherlock wants to add ‘except for you,’ but he feels that the nobleman might not take kindly to being listed among his more unsavory vices. “And Myc’s right, once the Lord of Crime disappears, I’ll be back to the occasional serial killer and petty crime. Neither pay enough for rent, and I’m no good at anything else. I’ll be nothin’ again.”
He hates that he’s spilling all his insecurities out in front of William, but he also knows that logically there’s no person he’d trust to understand him more. Even if Sherlock thinks all of this is stupid and petty, William will listen without judgment. “You are far from nothing, Sherlock.”
“How do you know?” He knows he sounds like a petulant child, but that’s far from his primary concern. William smiles slightly, obviously preparing to humor this stubborn mood of Sherlock’s. “Because I know you. A man who was nothing would have been of no interest to me on the Noahtic.”
Sherlock grunts in acknowledgment. “Still, you read all you needed to know about me at a glance, Liam, even the drug habits. There’s nothin’ more to me than what you’ve already seen.”
“Is that so? I find that unlikely, considering you continue to surprise and entertain me at every meeting.” Against his will, Sherlock can feel the corners of his mouth turn up slightly. “For example, I have yet to hear you play that violin piece you’ve been composing.”
Sherlock’s eyes widen for a moment before letting out a bark of honest laughter, propping himself on his elbows to look at William better. “How’d you know I was tryin’ to compose somethin’, Liam?”
“The sheet music on your desk–I’ve noticed it changing during my past few visits. Additionally,” he grabs one of Sherlock’s hands, pulling it up and forcing him to shift his weight fully to one side. William turns the hand over so the palm is facing up, gently pushing the sleeve down slightly, “there are inkstains on your hands and wrist–you aren’t usually a writer, and the sheet music is rather smudged. I’d suggest slowing down and allowing the ink to dry properly in the future, Sherlock. It’d be a shame if your work was lost before it was finished.”
Sherlock is almost dizzy with the sheer delight of witnessing the blond man’s deductions–in fact, he’s more certain than ever that nobody had ever truly seen him before William came into his life. However, before he can articulate that, their conversation is interrupted by someone awkwardly clearing their throat, and Sherlock suddenly remembers why he and William were supposed to go out that evening. He shoots his roommate and his fiancée a guilty, apologetic smile. “Sorry, we were just leavin’.”
John doesn’t seem to believe that for a second, but has the good manners to not argue. William, ever the gentleman, gracefully rises from his seat and crosses the room, offering his hand to Mary. She hesitantly takes the proffered hand, and William bows gallantly, placing a kiss on the back of her gloved hand. “Lord William James Moriarty, at your service, Miss..?
“Mary–Mary Morstan.” She supplies, and he straightens up, releasing her hand. “Miss Morstan, please take my sincerest apologies for this rude intrusion on your evening. We will take our leave at once.”
“We’ll be going to the bar down the road, should be back before too late in the evenin’.” Sherlock adds as he gets up to trail after William. John’s expression is one torn between gratitude at Sherlock keeping his promise and sheer mortification at the notion that his roommate is taking a nobleman to their local bar. However, William seems to misread this as concern. “I assure you, Mr. Watson, I’ll make sure he returns safely. Louis and Albert will be expecting me home in a few hours, after all. Do enjoy your dinner.”
The two men exit the apartment and are soon walking side by side down the street towards the bar in question in a companionable silence. Upon their arrival, Sherlock immediately orders his usual, claiming one of the bar stools. He intends to drink until he forgets his conversation with Mycroft. After all, Liam has never drunk before when they’ve gone out together, so he can be depended on to get Sherlock back to 221B in one piece. William takes a seat next to him, looking as elegant and confident as ever despite the rough surroundings. “D’you want anythin’?”
“No, but thank you for the offer, Mr. Holmes. I believe we had work to discuss, yes?” Sherlock groans, draining the rest of his drink and signaling for another. “Yeah, but I was hopin’ you’d forget.”
It doesn’t escape him that William has returned to addressing him formally, but he decides to push aside that disappointment and dive right into explaining the latest case that Scotland Yard had requested his assistance on. William listens patiently, occasionally nodding or making affirmative noises so Sherlock, who slowly becomes drunker as the evening goes on, knows he’s still listening. By the time he’s finished giving all the details, Sherlock has lost track of how many drinks he’s had, and, frankly, he doesn’t care. It must be enough since he doesn’t remember why he wanted to drink this much in the first place. William’s voice, probably giving his perspective on the case, vaguely registers in Sherlock’s ears as he drops his head on the bar, turning it just enough to look at the nobleman through half closed eyes.
Liam really is too pretty, he decides. It’s not fair of him to still look that perfect next to the wreck that is drunken Sherlock. William snorts, brushing the tangle of dark hair away from Sherlock’s eyes. “I appreciate the compliment, Mr. Holmes, but I believe this means it’s time for me to be escorting you home.”
“S’you c’n read m’mind now, huh?” Sherlock slurs his words slightly as William helps him up to his feet, the dark haired man slinging one arm around his blond companion’s shoulder and start out of the pub. Liam doesn’t respond until they’re fully outside, walking under the gas lamps that line the dark street. “There’s no need for mind-reading when you’re drunk enough to speak your mind, Sherly.”
“Y’know, I like when y’call me that, Liam.” He leans heavily on the other man, taking the excuse to enjoy more physical contact and honesty. To his chagrin, he can feel William’s shoulders shake slightly with repressed laughter. “I believe you’ve mentioned it before. Feeling affectionate, I see.”
“Only with you.” That gets a laugh out of the nobleman as they reach 221b’s doorstep. “I’m honored, Mr. Holmes.”
“Sherlock.”
“Sherly.” Sherlock knows the goofy smile on his face must make him look like an absolute fool, but he doesn’t really care. He can blame it all on being drunk tomorrow. For now, he’ll just enjoy this time. William helps him up the stairs, and they discover a note on the door: ‘Walking Mary home. Be back soon.’
Sherlock perks up slightly. “Does this mean I c’n get you t’stay until John’s back.”
“Well, I’m certainly not leaving you to your own devices in this state, Sherlock. I value your friendship far too much to risk your safety so blatantly.”
“Hey, ‘m not that bad!” William makes a dismissive noise, guiding him into the dark apartment to the same couch they’d sat on earlier. “I’ll get you some water. Stay put, alright?”
Sherlock grunts in affirmation, leaning his head against the back of the chair. While he waits for Liam, his eyes roam the room lazily, eventually landing on his violin. He’d left it leaning against his desk chair again, apparently–very irresponsible of him, but that’s not surprising. Then He vaguely remembers that William had mentioned that he hadn’t heard the song that Sherlock was composing. He staggers back up to his feet, walking over to pick up his violin before rifling through the papers on his desk. “Oh? What are you doing, Sherly?”
“Playin’ th’song for you.” He glances over at William, who looks like an adult trying to humor a very small child. “I’m sure that can wait until my next visit. You need the rest now.”
Sherlock waves him away with the hand holding the violin bow, returning his focus to the smudged sheet music. He expects more argument from Liam as he begins to play, but it never comes. A look in the nobleman’s direction reveals that he’s once again sat on the couch, watching Sherlock with relaxed crimson eyes. This is all the encouragement he needs to double down on his efforts, closing his eyes and allowing the muscle memory of his repetitive practice through the composition process guide him. It isn’t perfect by any means. More than once, he plays a wrong note and has to fumble to recover, but William never makes any comments on it. As Sherlock continues playing, his confidence grows, and that change in emotion is reflected in the song.
Once he reaches the end of what he’s composed, Sherlock opens his eyes again, suddenly embarrassed at the abrupt ending. “It’s still a work in progress. Still, not bad, innit?”
“I think it’s perfect.” The warmth in Liam’s voice catches him off guard, and suddenly Sherlock is glad that the only light in the room is from the gas lamps outside. He lays the violin back down on the table, stumbling through the dark room to collapse on the couch next to William. He leans against the blond man, letting his head rest on William’s shoulder as exhaustion starts to hit him. If he was more awake and sober, he’d be certain that, as he drifted off to sleep, Liam says to himself, “Just like you, Sherly.”

Christmas 2022 - Day 2 - Home Alone: The Holiday Heist (2012)
On t he second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...
Tumblr media
...two thousand dollars worth of tools!
Oh hey, we’ve reached the point where they got embarrassed about the number of sequels they were making. We took a diversion last year to look at the newest entry in the franchise, Home Sweet Home Alone, but we’re going back into the archives now to check out the last new to me entry actually set at Christmas. I’ve never seen 3 but I know that’s not set at Christmas and doesn’t involve the McAllisters either but maybe I’ll look at that one day as a random review just for the sake of completeness. With this coming out in 2012, it almost sort of maybe looks like they’re going for a ‘once a generation’ thing where they draw in one bunch of kids, then hit the next batch when the others have grown up. I mean, you had the original and the sequel at the beginning of the 90’s, 3 came out mid-to-late 90’s, then 4 was early noughties, now this one in the early tens and finally HSHA in 2021. At this rate I suppose we can look forward to the next entry in the early 2030’s. Maybe by then it’ll be set on a terraformed Mars.
Tumblr media
I don’t know why but I’ve somehow always managed to misjudge this art for the film. I think something about the hair looking floppy made me think he was a spoilt little rich kid. Plus what is quite plainly a hoodie I’d somehow seen as like a blazer of sorts with a tie. I can only assume I only ever glanced at this and didn’t pay too much attention because boy is that ever a wide of the mark assessment. Indeed, this is the story of your average American family with 2.4 kids who have moved all the way from California to Maine in aid of mom’s new job.
At least he’s doing the whole ‘scream’ thing here to immediately remind you of the old movies. They even mention the painting at one point and the kids get oddly embarrassed at their parents doing the pose. I don’t know if he’s really selling fear here though, he just looks slightly appalled by something.
Fittingly for Maine the house is allegedly haunted by the spirit of an old timey bootlegger but we’re not exactly going into Stephen King territory here. It does give extra reason for our young protagonist, Finn (played by Christian Martyn), to be scared senseless but he doesn’t exactly need any help since he’s pretty much scared of his own shadow most of the time. It’s also the motivation for our obligatory gang of baddies as they plan to steal a painting which is said to reside in the house.
Tumblr media
And hey, there are actual recognisable people in these roles again! Malcolm McDowell makes another appearance on our Christmas list, this time as the ringleader Sinclair. Alongside him he has Jessica played by Debi Mazar who sort of looks familiar but I don’t think that’s down to some of the more logical places I would have seen her like Goodfellas or Empire Records. She’s apparently Madonna’s bestie as well and she’s been in a whole bunch of her videos.
Tumblr media
Maybe it’s because she looks like she’s come straight out of that Jim Carrey Grinch movie at one point. Definite Who vibe off her here. Plus there’s Eddie Steeples who was ‘Crab Man’ Darnell Turner on My Name is Earl and was also in Would You Rather that I watched during Halloween a year or two back.
Say what you will about these sequels being cash ins but they put their hand in their pocket sometimes to get people you might actually know. Granted, McDowell is very much a working actor and whilst thoughts do obviously turn to A Clockwork Orange, you can just as easily find him providing voice work to Pinocchio 3000 (okay that sounds stupid and I kinda want to see it) or Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes (...same) so it’s probably not an amazing ‘get’ but I imagine he doesn’t come cheap.
Tumblr media
Another recognisable face is Edward Asner who just feels destined to turn up in so many Christmas films. I swear it’s either him or the goddamned Northen Lights. At least he’s not playing Santa this time. It’s kind of a weird performance because he’s hosting this Christmas party and the mum is his new hire, only they’re trying to play him off as being massively drunk but it’s not that far removed from just being a vaguely senile old man.
The whole former bootlegger house does very nearly come close to giving this movie a gimmick and some sort of identity as pretty early on Finn inadvertently finds a hidden safe in the basement. Eventually he and his sister find out that it has a hidden wall that has a speakeasy behind it which, when his sister tries to steal a bottle of alcohol, triggers the door to shut behind her and lock her in. The idea of the house itself having these sort of traps built in and leftover from it’s former occupant would’ve been a new dynamic and you could potentially have moments of peril from Finn accidently finding himself on the wrong end of one. But it doesn’t really come up so we’re just left with the results of Finn’s imagination; icing up the front porch (a classic), pouring oil over people or baking poisoned cookies full of hot sauce. Hey, Home Sweet Home Alone took that one! That movie has clearly sunk to a new low if it’s having to rip off this movie. Thinking about it though, the kid in these movies is meant to be the viewer analogue, the little boys and girls watching at home are meant to be able to imagine themselves being the one setting the traps and getting their own back on all the mean grownups so it doesn’t exactly work if the kid isn’t the one actively setting the traps.
His big secret weapon is the power of sexual harassment as Jessica gets stuck in a window trying to break in so, when he two partners in crime try to pull her out, Finn keeps firing things at her that smack her on the arse and makes her think the guys are trying to cop a feel. A swift mule kick to the nards sorts them right out though. I don’t know if I want to run the risk of upsetting the moderation bots of Tumblr again though in order to show you, I’m not sure what the party line is on a nice bottom.
Tumblr media
The traps feel a little tame in comparison to the other movies, especially when you consider the multiple times Kevin nearly killed the Wet/Sticky bandits with blunt force trauma, electrocution, burning, falls, Birdemic... Honestly, the most violent act isn’t even directed at the bad guys, it’s when he’s convinced the house is haunted so tries to collect evidence and ends up shooting his own Father with a taser. I know these kids are shown to be resourceful in these movies but where did he get that from?!It’s like the reverse Chekhov’s Gun as it never shows up again.
Tumblr media
Or when this one guy pretty much gets Swatted and maced by about a dozen cops.  See, there’s this whole subplot where Finn just wants to play videogames and not make any actual real life friends, only it comes across vaguely weird when the one guy he’s talking to online is this one dude in like his mid 20’s. Finn kinda has this whole borderline social issue though as he seems geniunely anxious at the thought of any human interaction with his peers. His sister is portrayed as being obssesed with her phone so it’s very much the type of writing you expect from that relatively early period of smart phones where adults are complaining about how their kids just wont get off the dang cell phone or those violent viddy games!
Then there’s this whole scene where Finn tells the guy they’re being robbed so he hacks Finn’s gamertag, gets his mum’s mobile number from the account details and calls her to tell her what’s happening. Only it turns into this whole misunderstanding where she thinks he’s grooming her son and has her daughter locked in the basement. Oh, noncing and child abuse, what japes we have.
Honestly, this one wasn’t too bad. It’s massively derivative and there’s no reason to watch it over 1 or 2 but it’s not the worst thing in the world. It’s just a very safe rehash that makes absolutely no attempt to try and stray from the formula, it just settles into the well worn arse groove that the original movie and the sequel already made and is quite content with that. It’s just the same movie but adjusted 20 years down the line with some new possibilities thanks to the advancement of technology.  Still, because it’s giving itself such a low bar it didn’t really come across as making any massively glaring faults. Whereas last year I think Home Sweet Home Alone kind of forgot it even was a Home Alone movie for large portions so it’s a lot easier to pick fault with it. Maybe that one just set some low expectations for me that this one was able to meet.
It’s not to say there aren’t problems. Like Finn is just a massive dweeb who seems to have this sad look on his face the entire movie. Plus, him being scared borders on the ridiciousless on occasions. Like there’s one moment where he manages to run screaming out of the secret room, through the basement, up the stairs, through the kitchen, up another flight of stairs, into his room, throw off the covers and then dive under them. It feels like one of those jokes where someone is falling for a really long time so they have to stop to breathe before starting to scream again. Granted, Kevin was pretty scared in the first movie but he was a good couple of years younger, was actively left alone for days on end rather then just a couple of hours whilst his parents went to a party and the Wet Bandits were a lot more intimidating the guy guys on show here.  These guys are only interested in the painting and even when they do discover Finn and his sister, they just try to keep them out of the way. The Bandits though, they took that shit seriously when Kevin was fighting back against them and you really did think they were going to kill him before Old Man Marley showed up with that snow shovel. I suppose this is a kids movie after all though and you’ve got to keep the menace and fear to a minimum.

oh lmao well worth a shot I guess. ty for the polite response though. any particular reason for hating it, just out of curiosity? 💞💞
honestly this video explains it better than i could in a fun engaging way: sherlock is garbage and here's why by hbomberguy
but spoilers for the series. a too long didn't watch of non spoilery stuff:
over produced (we do not need that many arc shots, we do not need a matrix journey into sherlock's 'mind palace')
bad faith interpretation of sherlock holmes in. several places
irene adler. just. all of that
moffet's favourite thing to do at cons is make fun of how much fans like and want to engage with the show
cumberbatch is acephobic (to be fair, this is potentially old information. it was [checks notes] over ten years ago lmao but as far as i know he hasn't said anything against his previous stance on asexuality so.)
i just do not like freeman. the vibes do not jive with me
treats the viewers as ultimately stupid, we never get a chance to solve the mysteries in the show ourselves, instead sherlock will eventually say he has the answer, then he'll refuse to tell anyone until the moment that would make him look best lmao
like. listen i just hate shows that are about mysteries or like... chess, just for example and no reason at all, and they refuse to treat the audience with any faith. they don't SHOW us why the characters are smart they just continuously TELL us the characters are smart and expect us to be impressed
queer baiting (this feels weird to say because of the actual watering down of this phrase by younger fans using it to mean 'any time my ship wasn't canon' and the like no it was real this time)
moffet loves to tease something interesting and then it'll never happen because he got another season and therefore doesn't actually have to answer the question he posed at the end of the last season that got you interested in watching the next season in the first place
anyway. i did enjoy the first.... two seasons when they first came out but even by the end of season two i was starting to see things that just. weren't engaging. the writing wasn't there. and i already knew about moffet and cumberbatch's disdain for their fans so. sour taste and all that.
the more i say things about sherlock the more i realize sherlock was just the warning for what would become the mcu. god. rest in fucking pieces.

April TBR--
Tumblr media
I have a high hopes for the month of April. Mostly because I’m putting a lot of my recent purchases on this TBR, but also because I’m planning on finishing my 40 Books Before 40 project. There are also a few eBooks on my TBR so let’s start with those.
1. The Curse of Broken Shadows by Laura Winter (Kindle)-- I’ll give you the author’s own description of this one: “epic romantic fantasy (dark & steamy), LGBT+, found family of assassins, polyamorous relationships, strong female characters, sun/moon/earth/shadow magic, features two other fantasy languages AND sign language, knife flirting.” This is the first book in a series from a self-published author. Also, ‘knife flirting’? Say less.
2. The Black Hawks by David Wragg (Kindle)-- I’m picking this one up based on JadeyRaeReads and her experience reading this one. I don’t know much going into it except that we follow Chel who isn’t enjoying his life as a knight. He no longer dreams of glory. He dreams of going home. When invaders arrive in the kingdom, Chel is given an opportunity. Escort a stranded prince to safety and he will be released from his oath. All he has to do is drag the brat from one side of the country to the other through war and wilderness while being chased by ruthless assassins. Chel will need killers watching his back; he’ll need the Black Hawks--mercenaries, fighters without equal. Prepare to join the Black Hawks. Why does this cover give me The Old Guard vibes? (I’m praying to all the gods that this gives me some solid Old Guard vibes.)
3. The Combat Codes by Alexander Darwin (NetGalley)-- The first book in a Sci-Fi trilogy. In this world, war is no longer the method used to solve problems between nations. Instead, highly-skilled warriors named Grievar Knights represent their nation’s interests in hand-to-hand combat. An ex-Knight named Murray is on the hunt for the next champion. He believes Cego, an orphaned boy who is making a name for himself in underground combat rings, has what it takes to thrive in the world’s most prestigious combat academy. This one sounds right up my alley. Especially the academy setting.
4. Murder Your Employer: The McMasters Guide to Homicide by Rupert Holmes-- The McMasters Conservatory for the Applied Arts is a luxurious and clandestine college dedicated to the fine art of murder. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for ‘erasing’ someone who deserves no fate worse (nor better) than death. The campus of this ‘Poison Ivy League’ college is where you might find yourself the target practice for a classmate and where your mandatory graduation thesis is getting away with the perfect murder that will make the world a much better place to live. I love the tone of this one already. I’m so here for an irreverent and cheeky how-to set in a dark academia setting. (I mean, it involves learning how to murder someone so...it has to be classed as ‘dark academia’ right?)
5. Jade City by Fonda Lee-- This one is a well known and well loved series so I highly doubt I need to hype it up for anyone. It’s also the final book in my 40 Books Before 40 Project. Can you believe? And just over 6 years early too. In this world, magical jade grants those with the right training and heritage superhuman abilities. The Kaul family is one of the two crime syndicates that control the island of Kekon which is the only place in the world that produces the jade. We see a clash between the Kauls and their greatest rivals in a clan war that will determine the fate of all Green Bones and the future of Kekon itself.
6. The Me You Love in the Dark by Skottie Young-- An artist named Ro retreats from the grind of the city to an old house in a small town. She hopes for solace and inspiration, but the muse she finds within is not what she expected. This seems like it could be a haunted house of sorts.
7. Misfit by Elle Kennedy-- I’m trying a different style of Elle Kennedy’s writing this time and going for a romance without any hockey in it. I know, who am I? And I found this in Canada, the land of hockey.  RJ Shaw’s mother is marrying some rich guy he’s never met and it gets worse: he’s being sent to Sandover Prep for senior year. If there’s one place a misfit hacker like RJ doesn’t belong, it’s an ivy-covered school for rich delinquents. He doesn’t try to get along with anyone. That is until he meets Sloane Tresscott in the woods on the outskirts of campus. She’s gorgeous and sharp tongued--and completely off-limits since she’s the headmaster’s daughter.  If RJ wants to survive prep school and win Sloane’s heart, he’ll need to figure out a way to use all the secrets hidden in the walls of Sandover. Rich people drama? Forbidden romance? Sign me up.

Hi...if you don't mind me asking, who are your favorite romantic relationship's couples in books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series (can be canon or non-canon)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before...... Thanks....
Ohohoho, I do love this question! I will try to list out my top 10 ships (although if you’re interested in more detail, check out my ship meme tag! I really need to start writing some of those again....)
1. Dabi/Hawks (BNHA)
Tumblr media
This should come as no surprise to anyone hahahaha. I’ve written 30+ fics about them at this point, and I still love them! They’re foils, and no matter what happens in canon, they’ve got some foe-yay chemistry going on there!
2. Li Jinglong/Kong Hongjun (Tianbao)
Tumblr media
Tianbao is my favorite danmei novel hands down, and these guys are a big reason why! They start off just flirty, get a little tragic when you realize they were childhood friends in the past who forgot each other, and they both grow together!
3. Iwaizumi Hajime/Oikawa Tooru (Haikyuu)
Tumblr media
Bickering childhood friends! The best trope, and I love all their interactions together!
4. Mei Changsu/Xiao Jingyan (Nirvana in Fire)
Tumblr media
Also childhood friends (are you seeing a running theme here, sorry, I love the trope), although currently Prince Jing thinks that his best friend Lin Shu is DEAD AND HE MUST HONOR HIS MEMORY AND CLEAR HIS NAME. Unknown to him however, Lin Shu is alive, and has changed his appearance into Mei Changsu, Prince Jing’s main advisor, all to clear his family name and make Jingyan emperor. There is TRAGEDY EVERYWHERE in this drama, but it’s beautiful, and the only thing I’m mad about is EVERYONE GASLIGHTING JINGYAN INTO THINKING MEI CHANGSU ISN’T LIN SHU and the fact that MEI CHANGSHU SHOULD HUG JINGYAN GDI.
5. Hannibal Lecter/Will Graham (Hannibal)
Tumblr media
The top mind game ship and the most messed up relationship possibly on this list, but I DEVOURED every episode of Hannibal when it was coming out, and it was so much fun to watch the game between these two. I don’t even need a season 4, I was really happy where it ended for season 3.
6. Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes (Captain America)
Tumblr media
Yet another childhood friends relationship, and yet another one where one person thinks the other is dead, but in this case of course, Bucky comes back as a brainwashed super-assassin. There’s a lot of snark here, and yes, I know Marvel was too much of a coward to make it canon, or even to really let them be friends after the Winter Soldier movie, but that’s what fic is for.
7. Quan Yizhen/Yin Yu (Tian Guan Ci Fu)
Tumblr media
Technically, I guess this could also count as childhood friends, but really, they’re a shixiong/shidi relationship, and in this case, with the shixiong completely jealous of how awesome the shidi has become, and how much he has replaced him, but loving him anyway despite himself. I like to think that the two of the made up after the novel!
8. Faith Lehane/Buffy Summers (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Tumblr media
Foe-yay tastic with former allies turned enemies turned reluctant allies again, Buffy is the Chosen One, until her near death experience means that there’s now a Chosen Two. I will always root for Faith over Buffy’s other love interests because Faith gets the entire slayer thing and has an edgy bad-girl vibe without being a vampire! (Buffy, you need to stop dating vampires, it seems to always end badly)
9. Anne Elliot/Captain Wentworth (Persuasion)
Tumblr media
Former sweethearts, now awkwardly meeting again after nearly a decade! Wentworth so badly wanting Anne to see that he’s DOING FINE DOING GREAT ACTUALLY HE’S A CAPTAIN NOW AND EVERYTHING, while Anne is just sad about the entire thing. Thankfully, Wentworth sees how competent Anne is, and also that them splitting up 10 years ago was probably right, but they manage to find their way to each other again!
10. Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Tumblr media
Yes, you’ll note how I’m using the old Jeremy Brett version and not the BBC Sherlock version, because honestly, Sherlock doesn’t have the same characterization of the original books, besides not knowing how to resolve a plotline. Anyway, the original detective and assistant duo! Got to love them and how long they’ve endured through the years.
Honorable Mentions: Batman/Catwoman (Dc Comics), Jason Todd/Dick Grayson (DC Comics), Harrowhark Nonagesimus/Gideon Nav (Locked Tomb series),  Homura/Madoka (Madoka Magica), Kashima Yuu/Hori Masayuki (Gekkan Shojo Nozaki Kun), Gu Jianshen/Shen Qingxian (Want to Ascend, then fall in love), Sam Vimes/Havelock Vetinari (Discworld novels), Shen Jiu/Yue Qingyuan (Scum Villain Self-Saving System), and Xiang Cheng/Chi Xiaoduo (Mingwang, part of Feitian’s Exorcist novels).
