#i can already hear 'it's not that deep bro' like i dunno try getting out of the shallow end and learn to swim you coward
I think for all the discussions we have of "everyone hears the jokes and the piano; after that, they stop listening" surrounding Louis, we tend to still simplify his connection to the piano.
Yes, it's very cute that he sings Clementine a little song when they first meet, and it's very cute that he plays a little prank on her while "tuning" the piano. It's super cute that they carve their initials into the piano and Clementine carves a heart around them. It's mega cute that he names his song he wrote after her when she confesses her feelings. Louis playing Don't Be Afraid at the party is, in my opinion, one of the best moments in all of TFS.
But here's the thing: That piano is Louis' heart.
I don't mean to go all metaphorical on you, but I'm dead serious—the piano is Louis' heart, and when you think about his arc and his romance route with that in mind...?
That piano is his one comfort in a world where the dead walk. It's been with him from the beginning of the outbreak. We know from his backstory that Louis wanted to take singing lessons so he could be a real musician, and his father denying him of that was what set him off to be a "vindictive fuckhead." Louis never got those singing lessons, and it's a very real possibility that Louis taught himself how to play.
Sure, others could've taught him; we know Minerva was musically talented, perhaps she showed him a thing or two. But learning piano, or any instrument, is brutal even with professional guidance. It takes hours of practice until numbness wears fingertips raw; dedication to memorize every key and finger placement to make music pleasing to the ear; self-discipline to keep going through every fumble, every failure, every single cruel thought of self-doubt; intelligence and a creative ear to write his own songs.
And yet, it's severely under-appreciated by everyone. It's annoying. It's distracting. It's unimportant. It's an excuse for Louis to mess around and not do any real work. He doesn't have any actual talent. The music and the piano are brushed off, unheard.
Yet, Louis keeps playing. He keeps singing. He keeps making jokes.
Creating music, the one thing he wanted so badly as a kid that he destroyed his parents marriage, was possibly the greatest comfort he had... a welcome distraction to disassociate from the horror and death happening around him.
It's bittersweet, like a purpling bruise that you can't stop pressing on; it hurts, but there's something else below the pain. The piano is out of tune and it's something that brings him joy... but will always act as a constant reminder of who he was and what he did, why he's at Ericson to begin with.
We first meet him while he's playing; Louis' heart is exposed, but is it really? Is he playing to his true potential? Louis hides behind the mask of a charming, charismatic goof. It's what is expected of him, so he plays a silly song intended to poke and prod at Clementine, to gauge a reaction. That's something we see him do at multiple points in episode one. In fact, we can consider a majority of episode one to be like the song he's playing when we meet him; it's mostly cheery or fast-paced.
Louis is able to soothe AJ with his "alluring" music after the kid bit Ruby is an indication that the two of them will share a bond. Louis is a natural at communicating and bonding with the younger kids [another talent that's overlooked] so it's interesting that he praises AJ for being a natural at piano, as well.
But the song stutters just a bit when Louis and Clementine are in the woods together, though; "There's only one guarantee: this moment. That's the only you got, only thing any of us got. Might as well enjoy it." ...Only for Louis to compose himself and send her away.
It's only when Clementine has a gun in her face, held by Marlon, that the music isn't fun anymore; it's rainfall and thunder and the words "I thought you were more than that" sung through the wind in a melody only Louis can hear.
Then Marlon's dead. The song is over, and reality has arrived.
I've talked at length about Louis in ep2 and his vote in the past. It's one of the most compelling things about Louis' arc and romantic route. It's a tragic mistake driven by trauma and guilt. It's people simultaneously telling him to shut up and telling him to be angrier than he is. Telling him to stop burying his head in the sand when he's never been more aware of everything happening. It's AJ peering up at him with pleading eyes that Louis can't stand to look at. It's Clementine wrapping his heartstrings around her fingers and tugging just enough to hurt, but not break.
Louis missed Clementine. He says as much when Clementine admits she missed him first. I don't even know where to begin with that! I can think of no other way to describe it other than they are half agony, half hope over this... and if you get that reference, you get a gold star. I just- the ache, the tension, the conflicting feelings of finally having a quiet moment to talk but Louis not being ready yet.
Y'know how someone carved "you suck at playing" in the side of the piano? It's something you might not initially notice while playing the game, just as Louis' insecurities aren't apparent at first.. but they're carved in him; never fully healed, still scabbed and bleeding... Until Clementine offers him a bandage.
She won't clean the wound for him, but she'll be there. She'll help him figure out how to do it himself so he can heal. She'll listen to him, not belittle his feelings or pain. She'll make an effort to know his keys and notes and practice playing his song until she understands.
When Clementine chooses him to spend time with him, it's a mirror of their first time meeting... but this time, Louis plays something real: a song he wrote, one that I believe he crafted during the two week time skip... a song he wrote with Clementine on his mind, for better or worse.
If the piano is Louis' heart, he literally asks her to sit there and try to tune it, which ends up being a joke but I say she's already tuned your heart, my guy. It's there before them, changed in the warm candlelight. He plays for her and opens up about how no one actually listens, but Clementine did.
And remember, this is the night of the raid. They don't know it's coming, but they know it'll be soon. Louis understands that he could very well die, so what does he do? He carves his initial into the one thing he's always had, and he asks Clementine to do the same.
I'm sorry, how are we NOT more feral about this? Prior to this scene, the only thing we see carved into the piano, into Louis' heart, is an insult. This thing that Louis cares so deeply about, this instrument that's become so intertwined with who he is... he wants to leave his mark on it just in case he dies. A reminder that it was his and he belonged to it just as much. Something so important, and he asks Clementine to carve herself into his heart where no matter what, they will be immortalized together in this moment.
And when Clementine carves a heart around their initials? Yes, his reaction is very cute and that's great... but she's not ashamed of him, or her feelings for him. She wants everyone who looks upon his heart to know that. She tells him how she feels and Louis is so giddy, and warm, and he names the song after her and I am going to start biting anything that moves, I can't-
Oh, and let's discuss the party scene in episode three, shall we? Y'know, where the heart covered initials are on full display? Where Louis tells the story of why he was sent to Ericson to everyone?
Louis is so... vulnerable. Sincere. Ashamed of what he did. This is the exposed nerve, the one he was so afraid of showing Clementine but there it is... and she doesn't reject him. Sure, she can say it's fucked up if you choose to, but she doesn't break up with him over it.
Also the fact that everyone sitting around him finally listens when he's at his most unshielded only for Tenn to ask him to play Don't Be Afraid for them after...? How do you not see the connection? Are you trying to make me cry? In that moment, Louis' heart was heard and appreciated and beautiful and strong and-
Listen. I am fine. I'm so normal about this. And fine. I'm fine.
But I also have to add that during the walk in episode four, if you let Louis choose what to add to the imaginary house, he picks a brand new piano because he wants a new heart to reflect the confidence and growth Clementine helped him achieve and because he loves her and AJ so much that wants the new heart to not just be his but also theirs and I am so fine with this, okay.

Not sure if you're writing specific versions of the turtles for the angst prompts, but would you be able to do 2003 Raph with 19 (beastly) or 32 (begging)?
"Tell me not to." The villain of the week orders--some new chump the Purple Dragons have on their payroll.
Raph grinds his teeth, hands clenched so hard into fists that they're shaking. The bastard's got a gun pressed against Mikey's shell. And while Raph and his brothers are tough, at that range the bullet will punch right through and then Mikey's...
"I already dropped my weapons, ya' dickweed! What more do ya' want!?" Raph snaps, letting his anger coat the terror thudding in his chest. Anger is so much easier to manage than fear.
"I want you to beg me not to shoot him," The guy's got a sneer like he's the one with all the cards. And right now, he is, "Beg me, come on, freak, I wanna hear you plead for his life."
"Raph--" Mikey chokes on whatever stupid joke he was trying to make.
They both know that Raph will do anything for his brothers. Just like any of them would do anything for him. Raph embraces all the violence and rage and bitterness so his brothers don't have to. Raph will take all the hard hits, throw all the worst punches, and do all the dirty work. If it means keeping his brothers' hands clean, he'll take it.
So it doesn't take much effort for him to bite the words out, "Don't shoot him. Don't do it. Just let him go."
"That don't sound like beggin', that sounded like an order..." There's a click of the hammer pulling back and Mikey shivers.
"Please!" Raph shouts, taking a half a step forward, "Please don't! Please, just let him go!"
"Eh, I dunno if you mean it..."
Desperation burns fuel for rage and Raph drops to his knees, "Please don't hurt him! He--he's just a kid! He's my baby brother! I'll do anything!" Everything's spilling out, he's opened a flood gate and it doesn't want to close. His voice cracks and he hates it but he can't stop, "Take me instead! Let him go and take me! Please!"
"No, Raph!"
"You wanna take the bullet for your pal?"
Raph's breath hitches and his chest is shuddering. He meets Mikey's gaze and Mikey is begging him not to do this. But Leo's always going on about responsibility and Raph is responsible for getting them in this mess. It's his burden to bear.
"Yes," He breathes and has to force his lungs to work louder, "Yes, shoot me instead. Let him go and shoot me instead! I--I can take it!" Pride means nothing in the face of potentially losing a brother, "Please! PLEASE!"
"Well, since you asked so nicely..." The chump moves pretty fast for a human. Between one blink and the next, Raph sees the barrel of the gun aimed at him.
Then there's that ear-splitting BANG and agony punches him in the chest, sending him toppling backwards. His ears are ringing but he can still hear Mikey's distant scream. The floor is spinning, the pain blistering over his other senses until he's just a throbbing beat of suffering. It hurts, it hurts, it hurts so bad. There's a flower of hurt blooming just below his collarbone, right above his plastron, and it's digging its roots deep into his chest cavity, filling him up until he can't hardly breathe.
"Raph! RAPH! RAPHIE, PLEASE!" Distantly there are familiar hands on him and Mikey's voice screeching from under a film of muddy water, "Please say something! Raph, please! Don't--don't leave me here, bro..."
His vision swims in and out of focus, darkening at the edges, and Raph squints up at Mikey's tearful face. Aw shit, he's made Mikey cry. Leo's going to lecture him for that one.
"'S 'kay, Mike..." Fuck, it's so hard to talk. Raph is nothing but a vessel of pain, pain, pain and pain doesn't have a language, "You s-safe...?"
"R-Raphie, you're bleeding...! I--I dunno what to do! Don's not--no, no, shit, please, please, Raphie, please!"
"M' t-tellin' Leo that you s-swore..." Raph wheezes and lets his eyes close because it's way too hard to keep them open.
Mikey makes a disgusting sound, all gummed up and choked like he's the one who can't breathe. There's water dripping on Raph's face, making him twitch. Did it start raining? Crap, they should get home before it starts to downpour. They were outside, right? Things are becoming slippery. Raph is sinking into a sea of fiery agony.
"M-Mikey?"
"Yeah, yeah, Raphie, I'm right here! I'm right here!"
"...you safe?"
Mikey sobs and Raph feels his baby brother press their forehead's together, "Y-yeah, I...I'm okay, Raph, I'm safe. I promise I'm safe. But--but you gotta be safe too, okay! You gotta stay here! You gotta stay safe and--and you can't go anywhere!"
"M'kay..." Raph mumbles. There's a screech like tires from beyond the veil of pain he's draped in, doors slamming, voice calling, "'M here...stayin' here...I...I'll..."
He wants to say he'll always be here. Because somebody's got to take all the hits that he won't ever let his brothers feel.
But he doesn't manage to get the words out before the roots of the flower in his chest squeeze the last of the air from his lungs. He sinks all the way to the bottom of the pain-filled trench and lets the sea wash him away into darkness.

Hey yume, glad that chapter 6 was already up! (That 26,000 words thooo)
Anywaysss neru was such a sly foxxxxx (=`ェ´=) bro didn't even try to hide his words or anything and just went into it 💀
He's such a sadist as well (tho I get the feeling that he was a little kinder(?) Than kaede in my HUMBLE opinion) like I dunnoooo maybe I'm just delusional
And Reina is getting a lil freaky too (like getting a lil masochist as mentioned by Neru) can't blame her tho it's probably a way to cope with the pain ಠ ೧ ಠ
I also remembered some of the scenes from the hentai (in Nemu's scene) where she's like getting beat the shit outta her face 💀 I'm glad you didn't follow that (I'm all for the rough and spanking but punching is a no no for me)
I'm a little confused about the last line (´(ェ)`)? Like what does Neru mean?
My lil brain also remembered some scenes from the hentai where there's like a cult there? Like I vividly remember there's people wearing dark cloak and shot, also Rin was like their leader and some shit (can't remember cuz I skipped those scenes to only look at the echi scenes LMAO)
Ps. Also the otome ASMR u recommended to me was awesome (灬º‿º灬)♡ but finding the audio was low-key hard lol. Of course after searching the deep dark web I managed to find the audio ( ͝° ͜ʖ͡°)ᕤ
The translation was easy to find lmao and I listened to the tracks but I couldn't really finished it because I'm a lil choosy about my ASMR kdkdkdndkkejd (and I'm still a lil busy huhu I'll finish it when I have free time, f u college)
I mean it's a good audio but because it's a lil old in the otome genre I find it hard to listen to, because the guy keeps dumping info after info to the listeners when it's not necessary at all ಠ∀ಠ like we be eating breakfast and suddenly he be like, "yeah, ur the reason why I changed ಠ ͜ʖ ಠ" then proceeds to tell me his life story
Like broski, you could've told me when it's an emotional scene but nuh uh he was like lemme tell you in our breakfast table ಠ‿ಠ
But that's the only con that I have, the voice is still scrumptious (THE ECCHI SCENE DURING THE FIRST TRACK WAS HNGHHH LOVE IT)
It's an old asmr so I kinda gave it a pass for the writing (I noticed how the pacing and info dumping was really not that good on old asmr) and yes, I listen to A LOT of ASMRs, so I have heard some godly and the not so good otome audios (but I still listen to them cuz beggar can't be choosers)
(God pls forgive me for my sins, but otome ASMR is my religion)
I have a lot of otome asmr recommendations but this is getting long (and I dunno if u want some recommendations, but if you wanna hear it lemme know!)
-euphoria anon
LOL I think part of the reason why Neru seems “kinder” than Kaede during his turn is because his rule stated that he had to be “rough” but doesn’t necessarily mean “non-consensual” so Neru wanted to do everything in his power to give Reina some sort of pleasure haha (Though, it still end up extremely non-con lol) Wherein, Kaede had to be rough and less kind against his will in order to clear the game 🧎‍♀️ Oh the irony
…Maybe there’s some correlation to that on why he said what he said at the end there. Who knows~? You’re my judge here ♥︎
I’m not really a fan of the anime in general, so I don’t remember what scenes there are 🧎‍♀️ I’m relying mostly on the game for future scenes lol I agree so much with the punching, it’s not sexy—That’s just domestic violence?? And I will never include that in a sex scene 😭 …But there is a scene similar to that in the future, so I’m just giving out a warning in advance, but I think it’s relevant to the plot, I swear 😭 It’s not going to be like a sadist-masochist thing ☠️
Oh, and Rinne’s route in the game was just mind-fuckery—Don’t even worry about it, Darling ☠️
I’m glad you enjoyed the recommendation! I really agree with the info lore dumping ☠️ But I guess I can’t blame them too much about it, because it’s an audio drama lol What else can you do but you know…talk? LMAO Oh, and it has a sequel too!
Don’t be shy ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Lay out that recommendation list, Darling ♥︎ We’re all degenerate friends here 💅✨

Hell’s Paradise EP4
aka: pretty people playing tricks on my heart..and winning.
Wasn’t expecting to get some Tamiya backstory, but he’s certainly got a temper of he was sent here all because he destroyed the gate of some powerful clan’s home and was then sentenced him to death.
Ohh we get to learn asaemon’s ranks now and Fuchi is number 9. I remember what’s his face said last time Sagiri was the lowest as well.
Fuchi made Tamiya feel fear for just a split second. His blade also has a little curve to the end of it? Hilarious how Tamiya just casually uses it to cut the rope binding his hands.
Oh, weird, this creepy fish has long, stretchy arms and freaky tentacle things on its back.
Ah, that’s right. We’ve seen so much blood already but never from Gabimaru yet. Thanks to Sagiri for pointing out that he can indeed get hurt since he’s been tanking hits this whole time so far.
All these huge monsters surrounding them and Gabimaru still cuts them down with no issue.
Aw, look at him saving Sagiri.
Ah ha! I knew Yuzuriha couldn’t have been dead! But I don’t recognize that other asaemon with her. Senta yes but I guess the other guy was the monitor of the fool Yuzuriha killed? Maybe?
Pfftt Gabimaru looked so bothered to say thank you.
“You can’t seduce me.” Good effort Yuzuriha, but this man is so loyal to his wife.
Genji, yeah, he was watching over that Makiya guy til he got killed. But now he’s gonna watch over Yuzuriha too because of her tricks? Dude you can easily go home ya know?
“Women have always been Genji-dono’s weakness.” Oh so that’s why he’s staying. Totally fair. She’s impressive.
Senta is ranked 5 and Genji is 8th, but we still dunno Sagiri’s. I dunno which way this ranking is going either.. like is high better or lower in this case?
Oh damn! That’s a hella of a swift move to get our man on top of you like that!
All the information she got from betraying Makiya is impressive. And in such a short amount of time too.
OH! Senta has the same va as Midoriya! That fits, they both got books of helpful hints.
“Do I need a reason to want to survive? Some deep personal motivation? I’ve got nothing like that. Do I need a reason to make it back home alive? I don’t want to die while I’m still so young. That’s all.” And that’s all I need to hear to make me attached to you.
Ya gotta give up on trying to hug Gabimaru sweetie, he’s only gonna twist your arm each time.
Uh Sagiri? You feeling alright hun? What happen to have you collapse so suddenly? Was it this weird fog that’s rolling in?
TOMA! Finally! Only reason I’m excited is because he and Alain share a va. But he is also real pretty!
Hold up! I didn’t know him and Chobei were brothers?? Oh my god.. and he became an asaemon (in one damn month might I add!) to help him? Precious! What a good boy!
“I endured a month of torture at their hands.” “And now you’re more handsome than ever.” God I’m really falling in love with everyone this episode huh?
Oh wow, to get kidnapped by bandits then befriend and control them all? Chobei is a little mastermind.
Oi! Chobei! I swear you better go back and rescue your brother!
Or Toma can save himself. That works just as well. But Chobei did come back for him still! All he needed was a better weapon.
“I’m my own god.” Bro I knew Chobei was gonna be a beast and I love him dearly.
I know we caught glimpses of what other teams are doing but I’m too speechless by these two beautiful men to care right now..?

You know how teenager rafe is gonna just be spiralling over reader going to prom with someone else? I’m going to cry cause like he’s a baby and he doesn’t know why he has these feeling for this one person that he’s always kind of orbited around?? And he knows she’s it for him but only deep down cause he’s trying to figure so much out and how could you know who you’re going to end up with at the age of 17 let alone 10 or 12 but he’s always known and aaaaah imagine that kind of love
an angsty little pre-series prom blurb partially inspired by this ^ ask that made me spiralll. thanks anon i hope u like this!
new light blurb: before we knew — rafe cameron
new light series masterlist
obv takes place pre-series in high school! referenced in part 1
warnings: underage drinking
“Top, it’s not fucking funny.”
“It’s kinda fucking funny, Y/n/n. Like, way more than a little.”
Rafe had ditched the last fifteen minutes of statistics when he finished his test early today, and he’d been messing around on his phone for ten minutes waiting for the rest of you to come and get in Topper’s Jeep so you could all go to lunch off-campus today.
Rafe stands up straight from where he’d been leaning against the hood when he hears your voice approaching, his smile matching yours once you see him. “Hey, Rafe. How did your stats test go?”
“Good, hey, Y/n. What’s not funny?” he asks, opening the passenger side door for you before sliding into the backseat behind you.
“Oh, get this, Rafe,” Topper says, laughing. You just groan again, clicking your seatbelt on. “Griffin is gonna ask Y/n to prom. Tomorrow.”
Rafe blanches. “Griffin?”
He knew Griffin thought you were hot. Certainly had to hear it enough times in the pool at practice every day. Rafe always found himself biting back a remark—well, almost always. As captain, Rafe was able to tell everyone to run another play whenever he felt like it. The extra exertion in the pool was nothing compared to having to tread water and hear his teammate talk about you like that.
But even after all of that, he still had no idea Griffin had the balls to actually make a move on you. Because Rafe could tell you’d seriously rather die than ever give Griffin the time of day. And Griffin had been pursuing you without luck for months, even though you’d been trying to gently show you weren’t interested. Half of the time, Rafe wished you'd just tell him to fuck off.
The other half of the time, Rafe was considering just doing it for you.
Rafe clears his throat after his outburst, a finger digging into a hole in his jeans. “How do you know?”
“He just told me in PE,” Topper says. “He said he has this huge banner, and speakers, and he’s gonna do it at lunch right in the middle of the quad—”
“Topper.” You cut him off a bit more seriously this time; Rafe can hear the shift in your tone. You've always hated being anywhere close to the center of attention, getting embarrassed by the smallest things others wouldn’t even think about. If Griffin actually knew anything about you the way Rafe does, he’d know you wouldn’t like something big and flashy. “Can you stop?”
“Hey, cut it out, Top,” Rafe is saying immediately. Topper just rolls his eyes, but Rafe doesn’t care. “You okay?”
“Yeah, Rafe,” you say, smiling over your shoulder at him. “M’fine.”
“Do you want me to tell Griffin to—”
Topper laughs from the driver’s seat, clearing his throat to cover it up when you look over at him. You look back at Rafe, and his heart breaks at the worry in your face. “Don’t, Rafe.”
“Are you gonna say yes?”
“No,” you immediately laugh, looking at him like the idea is preposterous.
“Oh c’mon, Y/n/n. Can’t say no to him in front of all those people,” Topper teases. “And where the fuck is Kelce? I’m starving.”
“You’re right,” you sigh. “I don’t wanna embarrass him. I’ll just find him after school today and tell him I’m going with Kelce.”
Topper’s eyes widen, Rafe catches it in the rearview mirror before he hurriedly looks away. Rafe clears his throat, settling back into his seat from where he’d been leaning into the front space to talk with you. “You—uh, are you actually going with Kelce?”
“Yeah,” you nod, distracted by your phone. “We said we’d go together if we didn’t find dates. Kelce didn’t really wanna ask anyone after what happened last summer. And after nearly being set up with Top last night, I’m about ready to throw in the towel.“
Rafe looks to his friend that sits in the driver’s seat, who's looking straight at his lap, the back of his neck bright red. “Wait, you two?”
“It was just our parents, dude. Went to dinner at the club last night and our moms brought it up,” Topper mumbles. You giggle at the idea, completely unaware of the energy in the car right now.
“Yeah, sorry, Thornton. But no thanks. You and Emily should be really cute, though,” you say earnestly, patting his shoulder.
Topper just stares straight ahead. “Thanks, Y/n/n.”
“And then this thing with Griffin—I’m just so over the idea of finding an actual date at this point,” you sigh. “Plus, I know Kelce won’t put up a fight about the color scheme. I’m thinking like, aqua. Or maybe pink? I don't think I'd look good in gold.”
You'll look good in absolutely anything, and Rafe will just have to watch you from across the floor of the Island Club, while Kelce twirls you around the dance floor or holds you close during a slow dance.
The guy in question opens the car door and slides into the backseat next to Rafe right then, sighing as he slides his backpack off. “Sorry guys, coach stopped me in the hall. Where are we eating?”
Rafe glares at him.
“I want a smoothie,” you declare from the front seat.
“Fine with me,” Topper nods, pulling out of his parking spot. “Guys?”
“Can we go to that place with the deli next door? I’m so hungry,” Kelce says.
“Yeah, I like their açaí bowls,” you say, twisting around to look at Rafe one more time. He must not be able to hide his emotions as much as he thought, because your smile drops when you see him. “Rafe? Does that sound good?”
He turns his body to look out the window, eyes flicking back to yours one last time. “Not hungry.”
Rafe meets Topper and Kelce at the dock later that night, the three of them intending to get drunk and maybe take Topper’s boat out if they felt like it.
Kelce is already there by the time Rafe pulls up, drinking a beer with Topper while they laugh at something on his phone.
And Rafe paces right down the dock, snatches Kelce’s phone out of his hand, and pushes him off the platform and into the water.
“Rafe, dude,” Topper says, immediately pushing him back by his chest.
“What the fuck?” Kelce sputters, spitting out water as he surfaces and climbs the ladder back up. “What is your fucking problem?”
“You couldn’t ask literally fucking anyone else? It had to be Y/n?” Rafe says, laughing indignantly. He looks down at where Topper is still keeping them separated. “And you—what the fuck—”
“I told you, man. It was just our moms. We didn’t even consider it,” Topper says, rolling his eyes.
“You both lied to me,” Rafe accuses. “Because you knew I’d be mad.”
“And why’s that, Rafe?” Kelce spits, reaching around Topper to try and push at his chest. “Why are you mad? Not like you were gonna ask her.”
“No,” Rafe says immediately. And he isn’t even lying; it’d never crossed his mind as a possibility. Which is why he can’t even begin to try and work out why he’s this upset about it. He didn’t do anything to stop this, but it’s still happening, and it’s making him crazy. “You know my dad’s making me take Reagan since we’re both on prom court.”
“That’s what I thought,” Kelce grumbles. “I was gonna tell you.”
“When?”
“Soon, I just—we made the plan so long ago, bro. Neither of us wanted to worry about dates… but I gave it time because I thought you might—I dunno,” Kelce trails off, shrugging. “I dunno.”
“Thought I might what?”
“Figure your shit out and ask her yourself,” Topper says, coming back from the boathouse with a towel that he passes to Kelce.
“Even if I could, Y/n/n would never say yes to me,” Rafe scoffs, shaking his head and reaching for the six-pack they were working through.
Topper scoffs back. “Oh, yeah ri—”
“Guess we’ll never know,” Kelce says, cutting him off while he dumps the water out of his shoes. He sighs at his soaked clothes before he looks back up at Rafe. “You know I’m not into her right? We’re just going as friends. It’s senior prom.”
“Why would I care what you’re going as?” Rafe says, shifting in discomfort, hand clutching his already-half-empty beer can a little tighter. “None of it even matters.”
“Whatever you wanna tell yourself, bro,” Kelce sighs, grabbing his phone out of Rafe’s hand and pushing past him to go change.
“Nice taste, Y/l/n.”
You whirl around from where you’d been adjusting Kelce’s boutonnière (you’d only pricked him twice, which was a personal record for you) at the sound of Rafe’s voice, plastering on a smile before you face him. Your eyes drop to his attire immediately. “Oh shit, Rafe. We match.”
“I know,” he laughs. “My step-mom wants a picture.”
You furrow your eyebrows, shifting in your heels, the tule of your dress suddenly itchy against your legs. “Um. Shouldn’t you take one with Reagan?”
“We already took a million. From every angle. With every possible fucking pose,” Rafe sighs. “C’mon, please? Before the limo comes.”
Rafe grabs your hand and you look back at Kelce who just nods, downing some champagne. “Take care of my date, Cameron.”
You can see Rafe just shake his head where you trail behind him, leading you back to where Rose is talking to one of the other moms. “There you are. Your dress is beautiful! I wish we'd found one like that for Reagan. It looks great with Rafe's tuxedo.”
“Uh, yeah. It's nice to see you, Mrs. Cameron,” you say politely, ignoring the last half of what she said completely. She pulls up her phone and Rafe’s bringing you into his side, his hand resting in the middle of your back.
“This okay?” he murmurs, his breath fanning over your neck as he leans down.
“Yep,” you say quickly, but you can’t help but look around and catch multiple of your friends watching you, including Reagan, who promptly rolls her eyes once you make eye contact with her.
“Y/n, sweetie, just a few pictures for the newsletter,” Rose says, reminding you of your purpose right now.
“Right, sorry,” you say.
“Hey,” Rafe whispers. You look up at him, feeling his hand bring you closer to his body. “Take this a little more seriously, Y/l/n. Don’t you know that the next issue of the Island Club newsletter will be completely ruined without this one specific photo, that will probably be squished into the corner of a terribly- edited collage?”
You laugh in surprise, hitting him on his chest for joking about his step-mom right in front of her. “Rafe. Be nice.”
He just grins down at you, before straightening up and turning back to the camera. “If I’m nice, will you save a dance for me later tonight?”
You’re glad he’s not looking at you anymore, because then he’d see the way your smile faltered before you turn back to the camera as well. “Sure.”
“How is my flask empty?” Kelce groans, tipping it over and shaking it out for emphasis.
“That’s what happens when you drink it all, bud,” you laugh, patting his shoulder. He rolls his eyes at you, linking his arm in yours as you both pass through the crowd to find Topper and his date, Emily. You all watch Rafe up on stage, waiting to inevitably be crowned prom king.
He was a shoo-in anyway, but you’d definitely distracted your English teacher with a conversation about the 1984 essay you just turned in while Topper and Kelce stuffed the ballot box he was meant to be guarding.
Rafe seemed like he couldn’t care less about stuff like prom court, just shaking his head when his name was announced over the speaker as a nominee three weeks ago at lunch.
And he’d dragged his feet through finding a date, just shrugging whenever you brought it up to him, prying partially for your own sake.
You couldn’t figure out why he seemed so averse to the entire event, but you supposed that was better than having to hear him go on and on about Reagan and how he asked her and what corsage he bought for her and if he was bringing her to after-prom—or anything else that would’ve dragged up some feelings you thought you’d firmly buried at this point, telling yourself for years that you never stood a chance with Rafe.
But the closer graduation got, the more you’ve been realizing that things with your friends would never be the same. Things with Rafe would never be the same.
“Kildare Academy, your prom king is Rafe Cameron,” the DJ says, snapping you out of your thoughts. Kelce and Topper cheer obnoxiously while you laugh, a little grateful they’re both drunk and distracted—so happy their plan worked (Rafe subtly flips them off behind his back as he’s crowned) that they can’t notice the way your shoulders slump as Rafe leads Reagan, just crowned queen, out to the middle of the dance floor while some Ed Sheeran song starts playing through the speakers. You’d roll your eyes at the terrible music selection if that was what you could focus on.
All you could focus on was wondering if Rafe would even remember that you promised him a dance tonight.
Kelce is dramatically bringing you into his arms as the prom court dance takes place, subtly turning you around so your back faces the stage and the court, smiling as he holds your waist. “C’mon, dance with me.”
Rafe’s letting go of Reagan as soon as the song ends and everybody cheers, dashing off to the DJ booth after telling her he’d be back in a bit. She merely shrugged before adjusting her crown and going off to some friends.
“Hey man, can I pull some prom king privilege right now?” he says, leaning in to speak into the guys’ ear. “I have a song request.”
“Playlist is set, approved by the school,” he says dismissively.
“Thought you might say that,” Rafe grumbles, reaching into his breast pocket before he can take the time to wonder if he’s really going to do this—if he’s really going to bribe the DJ to play a song by your favorite band before he goes to cash in on that dance together that you’d promised.
He hands him a crisp hundred.
The DJ sighs, snatching it out of his hand and pocketing it while Rafe smirks in victory. “Alright, what song, country club?”
And then it's practically a race to find you before the Kid Cudi remix currently playing ends. Rafe heads off in the direction where Topper and Kelce had been yelling when he was on stage, evening his pace when he spots you jumping around with Kelce, your dress fanning around you while you laugh, the string lights illuminating your face.
You’re smiling so big that it stops Rafe in his tracks.
Guys had always shown interest in you, and you turned most of them down. Not all of them; Rafe still had to see you with guys who absolutely did not deserve you giving them the time of day, sometimes at parties or maybe at the Club. Rafe could usually lie to himself, write off these feelings as some protectiveness over you, a nice girl who’d been a good friend to him his entire life. Rafe was protective of all the people he held close in his life, why wouldn’t he look out for you, too?
But something must have changed, because now—now Rafe’s looking at you, and he knows time is running out before you both set off on your futures. He has three weeks of school left with you, then a summer of seeing you around. And then... that's it.
And now he’s looking at you, those feelings less and less ignorable with every single second closer Rafe gets to not having you around him every day anymore.
Those feelings are crowding every corner of his mind, finally coming to the surface after all of the drama with prom dates had forced Rafe to wonder why he couldn’t stand you going with Griffin or Topper or Kelce. Couldn’t stand thinking about you ever being with someone that wasn’t him—a reality he knows he’d have to get used to you a lot quicker than it took him to even realize he’d fallen for you.
Because the future’s coming, and maybe in the future you actually end up with someone like Griffin, or Mateo, or that guy from the party that one time, or that touron from New England that your parents tried to set you up with, some hotshot you brought home from California after a semester, or Kelce—even Topper. Your parents would love that one. And one day in this future, you’re running into Rafe on the soccer field; your kids play for the same team together. Rafe ended up settling for someone he could never like half as much as he loved you, and he sees you across the field with a sweater tied around your shoulders, chatting with all of the other moms. The lucky asshole you finally chose just watches you the way Rafe always had, the way he is now as you dance with his best friend, the way Rafe will probably never be able to stop himself from doing.
Or maybe there's another future without you, where you move away to somewhere that suits you; the Outer Banks had never good enough for you, in his mind. Maybe you stay in California after school. And you bring home that hotshot that’s perfectly matched for you, who gets to hold you and kiss you and have you. Rafe only gets to see you every once in a while, when you decide to grace the Outer Banks with your presence for the holidays or for Midsummers. Maybe in this scenario, Rafe was never able to find someone else, maybe he shows up solo while you flash your engagement ring when the old crew gets together for drinks—no, you wouldn’t do that. You’d be absolutely smitten with whoever won your heart, showing the ring he got you to your girl friends with an embarrassed little smile pulling at your lips while they all gush over it. And maybe one of your friends jokes about how Rafe used to have a crush on you. You'll just laugh and shrug it off, nodding—because you knew all along. Of course you knew, everyone had to know at this point. And Rafe can picture you merely laughing at his feelings for you as the other guy gets to pull you closer on his lap.
The opening chords of your song snap him out of his reverie. He can see the exact moment you realize what song it is.
Rafe beelines for you, holding his hand out as soon as he’s in your vicinity, fully pretending he hadn’t just realized he’s fallen for one of his closest friends in the middle of prom. Like he hadn't realized that he wasn't just into you, didn't just think you were cute or like the way you made him feel when you remembered his stats tests or wore his shirt to his water polo games. Like he hadn't just realized that no matter how many times he'd told himself it didn't bother him that much that you'd never come close to giving him the time of day, that he'd never forget what it felt like to not even be on your radar.
“You promised me a dance, Y/n.”
You look at him and his outstretched hand and smile, then look back to Kelce, who's quickly letting you out of his arms, casting an accusatory glance at Rafe. But then he smiles a little. “I'm gonna hit the restrooms.”
“Too bad our one dance is gonna be to a song by a band you hate,” you laugh, accepting Rafe's hand. Rafe’s on autopilot, his hands resting on your lower back while yours move to his chest, swaying the two of you in little circles. The song is already through with the first verse.
“I don’t hate this band,” he lies. But maybe it’s not a lie—how could he hate anything you loved?
“Okay, prom king,” you laugh, fiddling with his pocket square a little, the one that matches your dress. “Still can’t believe we ended up matching.”
“Great minds, Y/l/n,” he shrugs, eyes trained on your face. Your hands slip up around his shoulders, and you nudge the plastic crown on his head before leaving your arms to rest there, fingers locked behind his neck. Rafe pulls you closer. The second chorus was already starting up. Time was running out.
“I’m not sure what the optics are of our matching and you leaving the prom queen to come dance with your friend,” you say, your small smile turning into a frown. “Reagan already seemed pissed earlier.”
“Don’t worry about her,” Rafe says. “It’s just you and me right now.”
“When we go off to college, I think I might just miss you, Cameron,” you say, smiling.
And Rafe might not ever get to tell you how he feels, or ever be with you the way he wants to, but at least he got to dance with you at his senior prom.
“I know I'm gonna miss you.”

cooking at 3am /// Osamu x f!Reader
Request: Imagine cooking together with Osamu at 3am because neither of you could sleep (or because ‘Samu got the midnight munchies lol). You don’t have anything specific in mind; you’re just playing around and feeding each other little bits of what you make.
A/N: bruh you said munchies and my mind said [[ h i g h o s a m u ]] sorry this went in a kinda different direction? but still fun 3am cooking project vibes :P
Tag/warnings: fluff, light drug use (weed), you and Atsumu are lowkey Bros™️, Osamu's kinda baby 🤧
Osamu’s not good at smoking.
He doesn’t really know how to inhale—you know, hold it in his lungs so it can soak in or whatever—and when he does, he coughs. Except he tries to repress the coughs. Even if he wants to hide it, he’s always close enough to you that you can feel his chest moving from trying not to cough when he takes a hit.
And also, like every baby smoker, he can’t really tell when it’s kicking in until he’s off the deep end.
“Can you feel it yet?”
“No.”
You shoot Osamu a glance where he’s sitting on the ground in front of the couch, watching a nature documentary on Atsumu’s TV with a glazed-over look on his face. “You sure? Your eyes are super red.”
“I can’t feel it. Give it—“ He holds out his hand and honestly you’re pretty sure he’s had plenty, but it’s Atsumu’s vape so who cares. You hand it over and Osamu holds it up to his mouth and sucks, eyes fluttering closed as the light on the side of the Pax glows yellow.
God, he looks hot when he does that. Something about a hot guy smoking, yeah? Actually, no. Something about your hot boyfriend smoking.
Except 'Samu holds his breath a second too long and you can see the urge to cough hit him… Wait for it, you think to yourself, and a second later he hacks and wheezes the vapor out in a wispy cloud that reflects silver against the semi-dark. You coo in sympathy and pat his back. “Want some water?”
Osamu shakes his head, hand over his mouth to stop the coughing. On the tv, David Attenborough talks about penguin courtship rituals and Atsumu (who’s been draped on the couch next to you for the past few hours) gives a light little sigh in his sleep. You check the time. 3am. Bedtime. Too bad you and 'Samu are both too high to drive home…whoops. Guess you’re spending the night at Atsumu’s place.
Osamu rubs his bloodshot eyes like they’re itchy, which they probably are. “Hey, can we— uhh… Do we have pancakes.”
“Pancakes, babe? You mean the ones you made for breakfast?”
“Yeah, there’s leftovers…I made you extra and you didn’t want them.” He twists around and gives you an incredibly dirty look, like this is something you did on purpose to hurt his feelings. “If you don’t want them I’m going to eat them.”
“Wait, 'Samu—“ But Osamu's already getting up off the floor to wander over to the next room. You debate pausing the show—it’s a really good scene—but you leave it going for Atsumu's sake because you’re pretty sure the narration is the only thing keeping him asleep. He’s kinda drooling on your shoulder and you have to push him off to go follow your boyfriend to the kitchen.
“What is all this stuff? Ugh…” Osamu's pawing through the fridge. There’s a lot of crinkling, plastic sounds—you catch a glimpse inside and all of the shelves are stacked up with plastic bags and styrofoam containers.
You yawn and hop up to sit on the kitchen island. “Takeout? I don’t think he cooks.” Atsumu's going to get a lecture tomorrow for keeping 2-week-old Indian food in his fridge. God knows you heard it way too many times before you and Osamu moved in together. You don’t envy 'Tsumu.
Osamu sits down in front of the fridge, fumbles with a drawer, and pulls out a bag of moldy grapes. “Gross…who lives like this…”
You snicker into your hand.
“I can’t find the pancakes.” 'Samu's pulling the plastic drawers all the way out now, setting them down on the floor as he inspects the contents of the fridge.
“They’re not here.”
“You ate them?”
“No, I— Hey, put those back in,” you tell him helplessly as he shuts the door of the fridge, ignoring all the leftover food he took out. Yeah, half of it was probably off anyway, but Atsumu's gonna be pissed if he wakes up and there’s takeout going bad all over his kitchen floor.
“You threw away my pancakes?” Now the look on Osamu's face is utter betrayal. He stands up off the floor and glares sulkily at you. “I made those for you…”
“I didn’t throw them away, they’re—“ You hold back a laugh and wish you had your phone on you (where did it go?) so you could take a picture. He’s so cute when he smokes. “—they’re at home.”
“At home?”
“Yep, at home. The place where you and me live, remember?”
“Oh.” Osamu pauses, reaches out absently to grab the edge of your sleeve. You’re wearing one of his hoodies. “We’re not at home?”
“Nope. We’re at Atsumu's place,” you tell him through a giggle.
He plays with your sleeve, contemplating. “Why?”
“Because we’re out of weed and he said he’d smoke us out. And we like hanging out with him.”
“Oh. We do?”
“Yes.”
“…’Kay.” It takes Osamu a second to accept this, but then he nods seriously. “(Y/N), I'm hungry.”
“I know. What do you want to eat? You could probably have any of that stuff, I don’t think he’ll miss it.”
'Samu thinks about it for a moment, scanning the array of takeout containers spread out across the kitchen floor. “I want pancakes.”
“The pancakes are at home, remember?”
“Yeah…” Osamu flips over his grip on your sleeve and traces his thumb down the lines in your palm. “I could make some?”
More pancakes? “I don’t think 'Tsumu has eggs, babe. Or flour. Or…baking soda?” You’re not really sure what ingredients go into pancakes. Whatever cooking skills you possessed pre-Osamu have deteriorated significantly since you moved in together and he took over any and all food preparation for your household.
He pouts at this, and his hair is a little messed up, and he’s so pretty that you can’t stand how much you like him in that second. Mine mine mine, something in the back of your brain says. He’s mine.
You reach up and Osamu obediently ducks his head down so you can smooth his hair back into place and fix the bits that are flipping over his part. “Is there anything else you want to eat?”
“Onigiri.”
“Oh…” Well, at least Atsumu probably has rice. “Sure. Ok. That’s your specialty.”
“I want ya to make it for me.”
“What?” You frown and pull your hand out of his. “You know my cooking sucks.”
“No it doesn’t. (Y/N)’s food’s the best.”
“You own an onigiri shop, come on—“
“Please?”
One of his bangs falls back in his eyes and without thinking you reach up to put it in place. “Okay, fine. But you can’t complain about it if it’s not good.”
He smiles and you want to blush. “Yes! I promise.”
So you do it for him. Even though you’re high too. You measure some rice and water into the rice cooker (Osamu has to give you pointers on how much of each to put in) and you scrounge around Atsumu's depressingly bare kitchen for a few sheets of seaweed and some easy fillings. Osamu pulls a stool up to the island counter and rests his chin on his hands so he can watch you with a bleary look of adoration on his face.
It takes you…maybe half an hour to be done? It’s hard to gauge time when you’re high. You and 'Samu both jump when the rice cooker finishes and plays the little rice cooker song, which will remain stuck in your head for the foreseeable future. 'Samu hums it in a loop while you shape the rice into lopsided triangles and wrap the nori around it.
“Here,” you tell him when you set the plate down in front of him. He looks entirely too happy to be eating your mediocre food for someone who literally does this for a living, but who cares.
He picks one, takes a bite, swallows. And blinks.
“What do you think?” you ask in spite of yourself.
“Umm…salty,” Osamu says.
You grab one to try yourself and it’s salty. Like, ocean salty. Yuck. “I told you it would be bad,” you complain, trying to tug the plate away but Osamu grabs it and pulls it back.
“Noooo…it’s good,” he lies, although his face is giving him away. Still, he takes another bite and chews enthusiastically.
“Shut up.” You tug a little harder but Osamu doesn’t let go.
He swallows, pulls a face, and takes another one. “So good. I love it.”
“Shut up. You sound so fake. You’re going to get sick if you eat that.” You keep pulling, but he insists on pretending it’s edible so you admit defeat and help him finish the onigiri off. God, they’re awful. But he keeps eating and so you do too.
When you’re done, your mouth feels dry as fuck and you want to sleep almost as much as you want to drink about a gallon of water. “Is it bedtime yet?” 'Samu asks, wiping his mouth and then rubbing his eyes again.
The clock over the oven says it’s past 4. “Yes. It’s bedtime.”
“Wait—we’re…we’re not at home, right? We’re at 'Tsumu's?”
“Mhm.”
“I prolly drove here…I dunno if I can drive now,” Osamu tells you slowly, like he’s apologizing. “I think I'm kinda high.”
“Oh yeah?” You hold your laugh back and put your hands up on his cheeks. “How do you feel?”
“Dizzy. Blurry? Like…you’re in slow-motion.” His hands come up to layer over yours. “You’re pretty in slow-mo.”
“Prettier than usual?”
Osamu closes his eyes, scrunching them up to think and then looking over your face intently. “Same amount, just slower. So it’s easier to see.”
“That so?” You slip your hands around to drape over his shoulders and get up on your tiptoes to give him a little kiss on the cheek, because he’s earned it. “You know what, I think I'm kinda high too. I think we’re going to have to have a sleepover.”
“On the couch? S’not big enough for us both.”
“You can sleep with 'Tsumu in his bed…or I guess you could sleep on the ground?”
'Samu's mouth twists and his brows draw together. You can practically hear the gears in his mind turning while he considers alternatives. “Can we share the bed?”
“I think Atsumu's gonna want it. It’s his house.”
“But he’s already sleeping.”
True, you can hear Atsumu snoring lightly from the living room underneath David Attenborough’s description of endangered falcons in the Philippine rainforest. You should really wake him up—matter of fact, you should really clean up the kitchen because it’s a huge mess—but 'Samu's already pulling you away. And you’re so sleepy.
“He’s going to be pissed tomorrow,” you tell Osamu through a yawn, but you let him steer you in the direction of Atsumu's bedroom, holding your hand.
“Don’t care…I hate sleeping without you.”
“Yeah,” you say, and you squeeze his hand and he looks back at you like you’re the literal best thing in the entire universe—and you decide you should get him high more often. “Same.”

Lucas (mafia leader) x Reader (female)
Tumblr media
A/N: I had this thought for days now and was like, ya know, just let it out. This is my first NCT (?) WayV (?) fanfic? Scenario? Yea XD For those who have read my past fanfics/scenarios, you know how horrible I am in explaining XD but yea, essentially I just imagine that you, the reader are a uni student whilst Lucas is part of the NCT mafia, "leader" of the WayV unit (I know Kun is technically the leader, but just for the sake of the story), okie, leggo
Sighing in defeat, you gathered all your books, stationery and some clothing before sneakily going out of your dorm and to your boyfriend's apartment since he gave you the spare key, saying that it was for emergencies or whenever you wanted to come over.
After texting Lucas that you were heading to his apartment, you went to grab a cab and head there. Truth be told, you never really went there and only got the address from Lucas. Which is why upon arriving, your jaw nearly dropped when you saw his apartment; even making sure whether the address Lucas gave last time was the exact one and making a mental note to yourself to look up things beforehand.
Upon arriving, you felt like you just came from the countryside to the big city. You went to the front desk and inform them who were you looking for, handing in your ID card and was immediately directed to the elevator, one of the securities pressing the highest floor of the elevator and left you in the elevator on your own.
Just when you thought that it couldn't get any fancier, the minute you stepped out of the elevator, you were amazed at the decor and the fact that there was only one door made it even grander. Taking out the key Lucas gave you, you were actually hoping that it wasn't the correct one and Lucas just sent you the wrong address but as it turns out, the key fits and you took a deep breath, walking into the room.
But on Lucas' side, he actually didn't receive your text message. So, the second he heard someone coming into his suite, he was already reaching for his gun because he wasn't really expecting anyone to come. But as soon as he heard your signature nervous voice, he felt relieved but worried at the same time. Did something happen to you?
"Lucas? Ar-are you in here? The people at the front desk just directed me here. I uh sent you a text" you called out
"I'm here sweetheart. Now, what brings you here at this late hour? Is there anyone I should be concern with?" Lucas stated, coming out of his bedroom
"Huh? Wow. I mean, no. Sorry, it's my first time here. I uh, I was just wondering if I could stay for the night. The dorm was so loud that I couldn't study nor sleep" you admitted, trying to avoid eye contact with Lucas, thinking that it was a lame excuse to come over
"Of course you can. I gave you the spare key for a reason, didn't I? Uh, sorry about the mess and all. I didn't expect you to come. I didn't receive any messages. C'mere sweetheart" Lucas mentioned, giving a hand motion for you to go to him
"Really?! I could've sworn I...(looks at your phone) I forgot to click the send button" you sighed, hitting your head as you went over to Lucas
"Hey, hey. Don't do that. You'll hurt your brain even more. No harm sweetheart. My place is yours. Come. I'll order some McDonalds as well if you'd like" Lucas cooed, bringing you into his office
"Damn. Two desktops?! Bro and this processor is the latest one?!" you commented, placing your bag down and immediately inspecting his desk
"Sometimes I play some games with the guys. Feel free to use it if you'd like. Lemon tea or coke?" Lucas asked, scrolling through his phone
"Lemon tea, no ice. It's worth the money better. Are you sure I can study here? Am I not disturbing you?" you questioned, sitting on the chair
"Not at all, sweetheart. It's almost 10pm. I'm done with work. You're free to use my computer. I've ordered your favourites already. I'm going to go for a shower for a bit. Feel free to turn on some music as well, alright? And please don't study for too long. I worry you'll hurt that gorgeous head of yours" Lucas chuckled, kissing your forehead before leaving you in his study room
After settling, putting on some music with your account (which was already in Lucas' Spotify), you grabbed your books and stationery then started to study for your finals. In the midst of it, you heard Lucas coming in with McDonalds; wearing a plain T-shirt and sweats.
Because there was only one chair in his office, with your consent, Lucas placed you on his lap as he was feeding you McDonalds whilst scrolling through his phone, occasionally leaning his head on your back as he does so.
After finishing the food, Lucas was about to get up and cleaned up so you could study a bit better since he knew you didn't like a messy space but when he felt your head slightly leaning backwards, he questioned whether you were already sleepy or not.
"What's wrong love? Tired?" Lucas murmured as he placed his chin on your neck, wrapping his long arms around your waist
"Huh? Oh? Sorry. I didn't realise I was leaning back" you yawned, scrubbing your eyes but Lucas stopped the motion
"Don't. Your eyes will get irritated. I think it's about time you sleep, hmm?" Lucas commented, tucking a hair behind your ear as he kissed the side of your cheek
"Hmm. I guess so" you sighed, leaning onto Lucas's chest
"Alright princess, let me just shut everything off. Kay, let's go to bed" Lucas chuckled, carrying your small figure in his arms and tucking you into his bed before going to the other side of the bed
The next morning, you were woken up by the sound of your phone's alarm but just stayed in bed whilst scrolling through your phone until you realised that you had exams that starts in 45 minutes. Immediately, you got up and went back to the study room to grab your clothes, without even calling out to Lucas and head to the bathroom to get ready.
After getting ready, you were so ready to rush out the door and call a cab until Lucas finally called out to you. Once you told him that your exam was starting in literally 15 minutes, he just chuckled and told you that he'll drive you there; which was a first since all this time, you guys just have dates near your campus since your dorm had strict rules and Lucas would just walk you there (A/N: how you guys met is a story for next time, lol).
After packing some food for you, Lucas grabbed his car keys in one hand and your hand in the other, making your way down to the parking lot where your jaw also almost dropped again since the car Lucas owned is probably enough to pay your whole entire undergraduate life.
Whilst in the car, Lucas told you to eat so you wouldn't be hungry during the exam. He also mentioned that he'll come to pick you up to celebrate finishing your finals since he knew that you've been stressing over this last final for weeks; saying that he'll treat you out.
Once you've arrived, Lucas pulled you to give a slight peck on your forehead, encouraging you to do well in your finals and that he'll see you right after you're done. You smiled and thank him. Getting out of the car, you saw nearly the whole campus that was by the front gate staring at you; even your friends were stunned before rushing to you, managing to get a glimpse at Lucas who just smiled before leaving.
"Gurl!! I knew your boyfriend was hot, but well off? You definitely hit the jackpot!!" one of your friends blurted
"Sis!! Can we save the conversation for later? I need to get this exam over with first" you bargained
"Okay, okay, good luck with your exams!! I'll see you later!!" your friend exclaimed as you went to your exam hall
Thankfully, the exam wasn't as hard as you'd thought. You didn't know if it's because Lucas actually helped you study since he actually knew the subject or something else but you were glad to finally be done with it. After the exam, you got a text from Lucas, saying that he'll be running a bit late which you didn't mind. Your friend, who was also done with her exam, came to your exam hall and didn't spare a second before plastering with all sorts of questions.
Asking you where you've been the night before since you weren't at your dorm; and when you told her you were at Lucas' place, she squealed, asking if you guys did anything spicy which you immediately cut her off, saying that you just went there to study because the rooms near yours were getting too loud and rowdy.
You also explained how kind and caring Lucas was; despite the amount of work he had to deal with, he was still soft when it came to you. Ordering your favourites from McDonalds, letting you just barged into his apartment whenever and even using whatever he had; hearing this, all your friend can do was just squeal, saying that Lucas was the perfect boyfriend.
And right on cue, Lucas texted you saying that he's almost at the front gate. Your friend saw your smile and teased the heck out of you before letting you off just because she supported your relationship; knowing that you had a rough past and it was nice to finally see you happy with someone; someone that genuinely cares about you.
But of course, life ain't that easy. Because just as you were skidding along the halls to the front gate, you accidentally bumped into someone and dropped your phone. You immediately apologised about to get your phone when the person you bumped into stepped on your phone. Looking up, you met with the campus' miss popular with her boyfriend.
"Can you please let go. I really have to go now" you sighed, looking up
"Can't your boyfriend get you another one? Oh wait, is he the one that you're meeting? Honestly, I dunno what he sees in you. Oh wait, I think I do. He's probably just in it to play around or probably did it because of a bet" the girl scoffed but you were just not having it and shoved her feet off, nearly falling if it weren't for her boyfriend being there
After getting your phone, you were about to make a run for it before she grabbed your hair, pulling you back and making you fall; calling you names and all. When you got back to your feet again, she nearly slapped you when you got ahold of her hand about to push her back when her boyfriend came and took your hand, twisting it behind your back, allowing an opening for her to get a good punch out of you.
It felt like forever since you were trapped between the two "bullies" of your campus and for Lucas, it meant something was wrong. It's been almost 30 minutes since he arrived and called you but there was no answer at all. Frustrated, he called Winwin to track your phone as he went in to find you; thinking that you were held captive by one of NCT's enemy.
When he did see you, he felt a slight relief that it wasn't one of NCT's enemy but he was still very much pissed at the sight. When the girl was about to hit you for like the 15th time, Lucas grabbed ahold of her arm, throwing her to the floor before looking at her boyfriend who turns out to be one of the bartenders in one of NCT's bars.
"B-boss..." the man stammered, letting go of your hand as you almost dropped if it weren't for Lucas catching you
"You better come to work tonight. We'll have a lil discussion about respect? Hmm? Make sure everyone comes. Or I'll just have to report Taeyong about this" Lucas growled, making the man cowered in fear
"N-no sir. Everyone will come tonight" the man stuttered as Lucas stood up, holding your figure firmly in his arms
"Good. Wouldn't want to make a big deal out of this hmm? Oh, and do bring your girlfriend while I take mine to treat the wounds you both caused" Lucas scoffed, bringing you out of the campus
Once you've reached his car, he gently placed you and put your seatbelt on before going to the driver's seat. Once he was in, he called Kun, telling him what happened and that he's planning to have a meeting later tonight in the bar. After the call, Lucas took your hand in his, stroking your knuckles as he drove back to his apartment.
Upon arriving, he helped you get out of the car and into his apartment. Inside, he brought you to his room before going to the bathroom and grabbing some medicine for your bruised face and cut on the lips. Lucas treated all your wounds as gently as possible, worrying that he might accidentally hurt you, treating you as if you're as fragile as an egg.
After he was done, he threw all the cotton buds and ordered some food for the both of you; knowing that you will tell him whenever you're ready. He put his hoodie onto you before bringing you to the living room to cuddle and just watch the whole day. Occasionally, food will come and it was all from your favourite restaurants.
After the next 5th Disney movie ended, you told Lucas that you wanted to take a shower and he told you that you can borrow any of his clothes. He even said that he'll run you a bath but you told him that you were just going to take a light shower which Lucas didn't mind. Whilst you were showering, Lucas prepared a T-shirt and shorts along with the hoodie you were just wearing.
After your shower and putting on the clothes Lucas prepared, Lucas came and redid the medicine on your wounds before going back to watching some heart-warming movies on the bed. Feeling better, you decided to tell Lucas what happened and whilst it seemed that he was calm, his mind was off wondering the endless possibilities of teaching the two that harm you; whether it'd be physically or mentally.
Either way, Lucas listened to all your rambles, wrapping his arm around your shoulder, leaning you onto his chest, giving kisses on your forehead, cheeks and occasionally your neck, chuckling when he saw you flustered; basically making you 10x better, treating you like a queen up until you fell asleep.
When you did fall asleep, he gently tucked you into bed, kissing your forehead, smiling at your sleeping figure before leaving the room to the bar where he was more than ready to make the two-person harmed you suffer; not forgetting to ask Hendery and Yangyang to come over to watch over you.
"Sleep tight sweetheart. I'll be back before you know it, alright? No one treats my queen like trash and gets away with it" Lucas mumbled, kissing your forehead as he left as quietly as possible
and let's just say that everyone in the bar that night experienced a side of Lucas that no one would like to see or hear ever again.
Tumblr media
"Try and lay a finger on her again, I won't be so nice next time" Lucas scoffed, seeing all the staff looked down, especially the two-person who hurt you
A/N: I hope that this was alright but yea, this fanfic has been stuck in my head for days

Exhaustion
Kozik x F!Reader
Request by Anon: Can I get a Kozik x female reader, where she comes home one day from a busy work day - and she sits down next to Kozik. Some time passes, then the sons realise that she has fallen asleep on him - and maybe just some light teasing for Kozik ensues, as he carefully shifts to carry her to a quieter room. Then, she wakes at a later point, still half asleep, mutters some almost incoherent confession to Kozik, and falls asleep again. Then, he addresses the situation the next day and fluff!!!
Warnings: language, alcohol
Word Count: 1.9k
A/N: We love some soft, sleepy confessions in this house! I switched up the location a little bit and also this totally tweaks the canon timeline but it’s fine we’re just here to have a good time lol. Did I write this on a Sunday night knowing I was taking Monday off because the previous week drained me so much I needed an extra day?? Maybe. Did I indulge in the softness of this to cope with that?? Definitely lmao. Also, if this trope is something that you’re interested in, I have a Juice Fic that runs along the same lines.

It'd been a rough day, and overall an exhausting week at work. Everything in you was telling you to just go home and go to sleep because your entire body was screaming for rest. But as you were walking out to your car, you’d gotten a message from Kozik inviting you over to his place. He had a few of the guys over to drink beer and watch the fights that were on that night. It wasn’t going to be anything crazy, and it wouldn’t be as big of a crowd as it usually was. Not having a clubhouse for the time being meant that the get-togethers were a bit smaller, which suited you just fine, especially on days like the one you were having. You figured that maybe a good time and a distraction might be a nice way to end a bad week.
You had become an expert at changing in your car over the years. You hated going placed still in your work clothes, so you always kept a spare set of comfortable, casual clothes in your back seat just in case last-minute plans popped up, like they just had. The hoodie and leggings that you had swapped into were much better suited for hanging out with the guys than what you wore to work.
Pulling into Kozik’s driveway, you saw a few of the bikes parked out front. You smiled, instantly recognizing which bike belonged to each biker. Taking a deep breath to prepare yourself, you grabbed your purse off the passenger seat and hopped out of the car, locking the vehicle behind you as you made your way up to his front steps. You knocked as you let yourself in, which you supposed defeated the purpose of the knock.
Kozik materialized in front of you, having heard you knocking over the sound of the television. A smile spread across his face as he watched you take your shoes off and toss your purse off the to the side.
“You made it,” he laughed as he wrapped you in a hug, “Didn’t know if you were actually going to show. I know it’s been a rough week.”
You let yourself lean into him for a few moments before responding, “It was a close one, I won’t lie to you.”
He chuckled, “Well, if you wanna bail you know you can. I won’t take it personally.”
“Rest of us might, though!” Jax piped up from the living room with a smirk.
“And maybe some of you should,” you shot back with a smile, causing both of you to laugh.
“Go, sit,” Kozik nudged you towards the living room, “I’ll grab you a beer.”
He didn’t have to tell you twice. You immediately made your way over to the couch and sat down, gently bumping your knee against Juice’s in a silent greeting. He flashed you a warm smile before returning his attention to the television. Hardly a minute later, Kozik was sitting down on the other side of you and placing a nice cold beer in your hand. You smiled and nodded to him in thanks before taking a long drink from it.
“Day was that good, huh?” he asked somewhat quietly.
You chuckled and leaned against his side, “Whole fucking week has been that good. Just one fucking issue after another.”
“I’m sorry,” there was genuine concern in his eyes, “If you wanna go home you c—”
You shook your head, “No, no I’m good. Honestly, I think what I need is probably to just watch these dudes beat the shit out of each other,” you laughed quietly.
“Always makes me feel better,” he laughed as he casually draped his arm around your shoulders.
You didn’t comment on the closeness the two of you were sharing, on the warmth you felt radiating from his body and flowing over into yours. It was comforting, the kind of safety and reassurance you needed after a week from hell. You could feel Juice’s eyes on the two of you from the other end of the couch as he smirked at you, and you gave him a gentle kick in the shin, causing him to laugh and divert his attention to more important things. Kozik gave your shoulder a light squeeze and you let out a sigh of relief as you melted against him.
At some point, despite the cheering and joking that was happening around you, you fell asleep against Kozik’s side. Kozik hadn’t noticed, too busy being wrapped up in the fights and trying to figure out if he was going to win the bets he’d waged with the guys for the winners of the night. It wasn’t until he heard the soft thud of your empty beer bottle slipping from your fingers and onto the floor that he figured it out. He glanced down at you, halfway through a sentence asking if you were okay, when he saw you fast asleep against his side.
He was gazing down at you, trying to figure out what to do with you, when he heard Jax’s laughter. “She is knocked out, bro,” he chuckled.
“Yea, she is,” Kozik shook his head, “I can’t just wake her up…right?”
“No, don’t be an asshole,” Opie chimed in, shaking his head with a knowing smile, “Just let her sleep.”
“And, honestly,” Juice chuckled as he looked at you passed out against Kozik, “something tells me you couldn’t wake her up right now even if you tried.”
“Probably not,” Kozik laughed as he mulled that observation over in his mind for a few seconds. With a light sigh he stood up and carefully lifted you off the couch, draping you over his arms, “I’ll be back,” he said to the guys with a laugh as he carried you out of the fray of his living room, even though it clearly hadn’t bothered you enough to stop you from falling asleep in the first place.
“Yea, there you go, Prince Charming,” Jax called after him with a laugh, “Whisk her away.”
He carried you to his room and gently deposited you onto the bed. He was pulling the blanket up over you when you sleepily reached out and tugged at his arm. For a moment he was startled, but when he saw the exhausted look in your hooded eyes, he had to smile.
“Go back to sleep,” his voice was soft, “I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Where you going?” you mumbled, fingers wrapping gently around his forearm.
He smiled as he placed his free hand over yours, “Just back to the living room—fights are still on.”
“Kozik?” your eyes were already shut again as you laid against the pillow on his bed.
“Yea?” he couldn’t hide his amusement at how you were when you were sleepy.
“I think I’m a little,” you yawned as your hand loosened and fell from his arm onto the bed beside you, “a little in love with you.”
Your words caught him off-guard, but before he could even try to respond to them, you were passed out again, sprawled out over his bed. He stood there for a few moments, just looking at you and hearing your sleepy voice ringing in his head over and over. He raked his fingers back through his hair and took a deep breath before forcing himself to return to the rest of the people who were still at his house.
“All good, brother?” Opie saw the slightly dazed look on Kozik’s face and couldn’t help but to ask.
It snapped him out of it, and he smiled as he sat back down on the sofa, “Yea, all good.”
Kozik had opted to sleep on the couch for the night after everyone else had left. He woke up to the smell of coffee and the sound of you trying to quietly get things out of the kitchen cupboards and failing. He slowly sat up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. When it was finally able to focus his vision, he felt his entire body get warm at the sight of you sleepily snooping around his kitchen trying to make your coffee.
“Good morning,” he said as he swung his legs, feet landing softly on the floor.
“Oh,” you spun around, coffee mug cupped tightly in your hands, not realizing that he was awake, “Morning,” you paused, “Coffee?”
He nodded, “Yea, sure.”
You made two cups and brought them over, handing one over to him as you sat down on the couch next to him. The outside of your leg rested against his as you each sipped on your coffee, letting a comfortable silence fill the room.
After a couple minutes you looked over at him with a smile, “Sorry for passing out here last night—guess I can’t hang like I used to.”
He chuckled and shook his head, “Don’t apologize. I’m surprised you even came over. I know your week was…shitty.”
You laughed nodding, “It was. But I dunno, I like hanging out here, with you.”
He figured that there wasn’t going to be a better time to bring up what you had said the night before, so he did, “Hey, um, can I…can I talk to you about something?”
You turned your head to face him, nodding, “Of course.”
“Last night, when I brought you to bed. You, um, you mentioned something that I just feel like I should probably ask you about?”
You groaned, “Fuck. What’d I say? I swear, Kozik, I’m never trying to make you uncomfortable or—”
“You didn’t,” he didn’t want to allow you to continue going with that train of thought, “You didn’t make me uncomfortable at all. You just…you said that you’re in love with me.”
Nerves shot throughout your entire body. You couldn’t even blame the confession on the booze, only having had one drink. It was just exhaustion and lowered inhibitions that got you to spill your feelings. It was hard to gauge from the look on his face where exactly he landed with it.
“You don’t have to try and save my feelings if you don’t feel the same way,” you told him with a shake of your head, “I’m sorry I even put you in this position at all.”
“Do you?”
“What?”
“Do you love me?” his eyes desperately searched yours.
You nodded, not able to say anything else for a moment. When you finally got your words in order, you said, “I do. I have for a while. I’m sorry if—”
You didn’t get to finish your sentence as he closed the distance between the two of you and pressed his lips to yours. It caught you by surprise, and it took you a second to truly realize what was going on, but once you did you leaned into him, reveling in the way his hand felt as he came to cup the side of your face.
“I love you too,” he said, a little breathless as he took his lips off of yours.
You felt yourself smiling uncontrollably as you looked at him, “Sorry I just dropped that on you as I was passing out last night. Little bit of a dick move.”
“Wanna know what else was a dick move?” he asked with a cheeky smile.
“What’s that?”
“You said that you’re only a little in love with me,” he laughed at the way you shrank back out of embarrassment. He set his coffee mug down so he could pull you back closer to him, “C’mon, you know I’m kidding. It was cute.”
“Yea?” your eyes searched his face.
He nodded, “Yea,” he kissed you softly on the lips, “But you do love me more than just a little, right?”
You laughed, nodding as you cupped his face in your hands, “Of course.”

Chapter 1
Chapter 2, part 1
Chapter 2, part 2
We walk down the stairs and Ashley and Chris were already in the living room by the fire. “Well...well, what took the two of you so long?” Chris asks. I had a hard time keeping a straight face. It felt good to be close with Josh again after a few days.
The four of us were talking about how cold it was in the lodge. The heat had to get turned on. I tell Josh “The fire is nice but it would be great if the heat was on.” I wrap my arms around myself for warmth. He wraps his arms around me to help. He says “Come on...”
Chris, Ashley and I were betting how long it would take him to get it started. Chris asks “How long do you think it’ll take him?” To be nice, I bet “An hour.” Ashley says “My money’s on blankets for everyone!” Chris tells him “You can do it, man. We believe in you.” She says “Yeah! Totally! Woo!” I do a chant “Let’s go Jo-osh, let’s go!” His arms tighten around me. I laugh.
There was the sound of footsteps moving around upstairs. Josh removes his arms. He tells all three of us, “Alright, peanut gallery, you know what? I got an idea.” I ask, suspiciously “What?” He continues “Okay well I am pretty sure that somewhere in this crazy place we used to have...a spirit board.” Ashley asks “A what?”
Sarcastically, Chris asks “Wow you have a ‘spirit board’?” I ask him, concerned “Wait are you saying...we should have a séance?” Still joking, Chris says “Those things are a joke, man. They don’t do shit.” Josh says with a little difficulty, “No way bro. We used to do it all the time. Me and...well...” This isn’t a good idea.
The footsteps reach the bottom. I turn and say “Hey Sam.” As she gets closer to us, she says “Hi. Hey Josh. No hot water’s kinda major oversight doncha think?” He tells her “Yeah yeah, just gotta fire up the boiler. It’s in the basement.” Turns back to Chris and Ashley, “You guys see if you can find the spirit board.”
Ashley gets up from the ottoman, “Chris, let’s go find it! It’ll be like a scavenger hunt!” Hesitantly, he says “Ummm...okay...guess so.” Josh says “Rad. You’re not gonna regret it.” The two of them leave.
Josh asks me “You up for a ride-along?” Nervously, I say “Sure.” I turn to Sam, “Sam, do you want to help us?” She looks behind me, “Uhhh...no, you two go for it. I’ll wait up here.”
We make our way to the direction of the basement. He pauses and says, mischievously “Hey. You notice how I gave Chris and Ashley a mission together? Yeah I was thinking they could use some ‘alone time.’” Supportively, I say “They are very sweet together. I wish they’d just freakin’ get on with it already.” A little too enthused, he says “I swear they just need like...something to bond over, y’know? Some sort of traumatic event to send them into each other’s arms.”
He opens a drawer and takes out a flashlight. I open the door that leads to the basement. Standing by the doorframe, it takes Josh a few minutes. He says “You know...” I ask “Yes?” He begins “I just wanted to say...” I ask “What?” Thoughtfully, he tells me “It really means a lot to me that everyone came back this year and you know, that you came.”
I smile, “Josh. I care about you and glad to hear you are doing a little better. We’re here for you. Really. Whatever you need. Whenever. We’re all gonna make it through this...together.” I give him a kiss on the cheek. He says with a sort of devilish smile, “Um...I want us to have a good time, you know...”
We continue down the stairs of the basement. Knowing that the stairs are crumbling a little, he tells me “Watch your step.” Jokingly, I tell him “I think I can handle a little old set of stairs.” Sarcastically, he says “Uh-huh.”
I follow him to the boiler cabinet. As he opens the cabinet, he says “Sorry to drag you down into the bowels.” I say “It’s fine. Like I said the fire is nice but some heat and hot water would be nice.” He says “I mean I wouldn’t want you coming down here on your own, you know?” Jokingly, I say “Such a gentleman.”
Looking around at the dark basement with a ton of boxes and the only other light is coming from the small windows. I tell him “Well it’s definitely creepy down here.” He says “Yep. Not a place to be on your own.”
He hands me the flashlight, “Here, can you...can you hold this steady?” There was a noise in the distance. I turn around to see where it came from. Now I’m starting to get a little freaked out.
I tighten my grip on the flashlight. I ask a little freaked out, “Josh...what was that?” Not believing, he says “What was what? Just shine it here so I can see what I’m doing.” I say “Fine.”
There was another sound, I turned to see where it came from. Josh says from the boiler cabinet, “(Y/N)...Can you just keep the light still so I can see, okay?”
This time I finally held the flashlight steady. He got everything hooked up. He stands up and smiles, “Nice one. Okay first things first: we gotta increase the water pressure before we get the boiler fired up.” I look at the machine, “Sounds kinda complicated.” Reassuringly, he tells me “No, it’s actually pretty simple.”
I turn the knob, waited and saw the light turn on. I pushed the button but apparently it didn’t work, “Damn!” He says “It’s okay, just try again.” I tried again but missed it, “Ugh!” He tells me “Relax...It’s not that hard. Just press the button when the light comes on.” I take a deep breath and let it out. I try again and got it.
The boiler fired up. Proud of myself, I say “Whoa!!” Josh was pretty proud too, “That’s more like it. Alright! Five, girl!” He holds up his hand and I slap it. I excitedly, say “Yeah!” He closes the boiler cabinet and locks it.
Curiosity hits me, I ask “Josh...so upstairs when I asked Sam if she would like to help...Did you tell her not to join us?” He gets a shocked expression, “What? No...why would I do that?” I tell him as I step a little closer, “Are you sure? Because I swear Sam looked behind me to see if she should.” Looking a little guilty, he begins “Well....I might -“
In the dark, damp basement there was another noise. I turn in the direction that I think it’s coming from, “What the hell is that?” I back a little closer to him. He says, jokingly “Could be a lot of things...and none of them nice...” as he wiggles his finger on my arm. I push it away, “Hey, quit it.”
He says with a chuckle “I’m just...just ‘Joshing’ ya.” “Har har.” I tell him. Trying to point it out, he says “You were really freaked out.”
Shaking my head in protest, “I was not scared.” With a sly grin, he says as he looks me up and down “No, no, you just jumped because you wanted to squeeze in some aerobics?” I roll my eyes.
After a few years of hanging out with the Washington family, I have picked up on some acting skills. I put on a terrified look and look behind him. I look from him to behind, “Oh my God - - don’t move - -“ Sounding a little concerned, he asks “What?” Sounding more terrified, I tell him “There’s something behind you.” Trying to sound brave, he says “Yeah right.”
Really wanting to get him, I continue “Josh...Seriously. There’s something back there...” He turns and looks over his shoulder. I tell him, very satisfied “Ha...Got - -ch - -ah.” Putting an arm around my waist as he pulls me closer, “Alright. Alright. Your point.” I wrap my arms around the back of his neck, “Thirty - - Love.” Josh raises an eyebrow, “What? No...Where’d you get the first point?” I ask “It doesn’t start at thirty?” He says “No. Fifteen.” I say, confidently “Oh. Well, I’m more of a ping-pong gal.” As I get the last sentence out, he kisses me.
The two of us probably would have stayed down there for awhile, if the sound didn’t happen again. We pull away. Really? I was just starting to get used to being down here.
Catching my breath, I ask “Okay, so you hear that too, right?” I look at Josh, “Josh?” He removes his arm and moves in front of me. He asks “What?” Starting to get freaked out again, “The rhythm’s like, weirdly regular...” We walk a little closer to the sound. He says “Not...No...Nothing ‘regular’ about it...”
As we walk closer to it, I place my right hand on his arm and my left hand in his right. His hand grip tightens. I ask “Maybe we should, you know, check it out?” He asks “Why?” Not really knowing what to say, I tell him “I dunno, what if it’s like, a pipe that’s about to burst or some problem with the furnace?” He tells me “Unlikely.” I say to convince him, “If it were me I wouldn’t want this place to burn down on my watch.” He pauses and then says “...Yeah. Right.”
As we venture farther into the basement, all of a sudden, a figure in a brown robe and hockey mask jumps out. Josh and I scream and run for our lives. Josh in front, says “Whoa - (Y/N) - whoa.” Along the path, I grab an obstacle and pull it down. The figure is blocked. Josh and I make it up the stairs and I try to open the door. I am struggling to get it open. The figure is getting closer.
I am throwing all my weight against this door, “Oh come ON now why are these doors locked?!” In a panic, Josh says “To...To keep out strangers!!”
I feel Josh get closer. The figure stops right in front of us, “Hey...” Confused, I ask “...What?” The figure says, again “Heeyyyyyy...” Still confused, I ask “...WHAT THE HELL?!”
The figure removes the mask and hood. He revealed himself as Chris. Thinking it is funny, Chris says “Boom! You just got monked!” I can feel anger starting to rise, “WHAT!!!” Josh says, proudly “Nice. Nice one. That was good.” First to Josh and then to Chris, I ask “No it was not. Why w...Why would you do that?”
Holding his arm out, Chris says “There’s all this cool old movie crap down here. What, was I...was I not supposed to take advantage of the opportunity?” To Chris, I ask “Are you...are you serious?” I turn to Josh and push him a little, “Were you in on this, you putz?” As he gives Chris a high-five, he says “Nope. But I wish I was! That was too good!” I tell him “Don’t high-five that.”
The three of us get back to the main part of the lodge. After calming down a little, I tell them “I’m ready to admit that your dumb little prank may have had a slight whiff of humor to it.” Chris says “Jokemaster!” I tell him to make myself clear, “I said nothing about jokes. I said your prank, which was dumb -“ Chris begins ascending the stairs. Josh walks over to the table to set the flashlight down. I wait at the bottom of the steps with my arms crossed for him.
Josh jokingly, says “Holy crap you were scared. Admit it.” Sternly, I tell him “I was not!” I begin ascending the stairs. Not giving up, he says “Come on, you totally pissed yourself!” Done with the joke, I say “Josh!”
We joined the others upstairs. I go and stand near the fireplace. Josh places his arms around my waist and places a kiss on my right temple. I whisper, trying to hide a smile “I hate you.” Knowing I can’t stay mad at him long, he whispers “No, you don’t.” I lay my cheek on his arm. Ashley walks over to Chris and notices his outfit of choice. She asks in disgust, “What...in god’s name...are you wearing?” Playing along, Chris tells her “I found my true calling.” He makes the sign of the cross in the air. Putting her hands in a praying motion, she tells him, sarcastically “Please tell me you’re going to take a vow of silence.”
Chris moves his mouth without sound. To make him quit the charade, I ask “Okay okay...Did you at least find the thingy?” Chris looks at me and pulls a board out of his robe, “Boi - oi - oi - oing! Here’s our one way ticket to the spirit realm!” Ashley says “Hmmm.”
Josh tells Sam “Sam, we got the boiler up and running. So the hot water should be working.” Grateful, she says “Thank you. I see a hot bath in my crystal ball. So have fun!”

POV: You Got Wayyy Too High
Tumblr media
Warnings: Drug use (weed lol)
Aizawa Shouta/ Eraserhead
“Hey, what are you doing?” asked Aizawa as he plopped his bag at the door. You were trying to smoke weed from a pipe, but instead of lighting the actual herb, you were trying to heat it up from the bottom of the pipe.
You’d never smoked weed, but wanted to try it and bought the supplies from a local smoke shop, as well as buying some good stuff from your friend.
Unfortunetly, you also didn’t bother to look up how to actually use a pipe, instead just relying on knowledge you gained from drug documentaries.
This meant that you only knew how people heated up heroin with a flame under the spoon, which meant that surely you could do the same with weed.
“No, no, no, no. Stop that,” he ordered. You were his age, but nonetheless still buckled under his stern tone.
“Look, do you need me to show you how to do it?” he asked, gently taking the glass pipe from your hand. You nodded.
“Watch carefully,” he ordered, as he properly lit up the herb as he inhaled the smoke. He then passed it to you, watching you carefully to make sure you were doing it right. Soon, you got the hang of it.
Even sooner, though, you were a coughing mess.
“Calm it down, there. Don’t take huge puffs. You’re not impressing anyone here, y/n,” he scolded, taking another puff. He did it effortlessly, as if he’d done it for years. (He has.)
You wanted to impress him, though, even though he seemed to not care what you did. You just wanted to prove to him that you were ~cool~.
Well, this ended up in you looking very... uncool.
While Aizawa was chilling with a pretty decent high, you were laid across the bed, starfish style, blasting music in your ears. You were honestly vibing though, so Aizawa didn’t mess with you. For now.
The next day, he definitely teased you a little bit about how totally out of it you were, and how you listened to the same song on loop for 3 hours.
“How did you know that?” You asked, cocking a brow.
“Uh, because your headphones weren’t plugged in?”
Yagi Toshinori/ All Might
He was smoking when you came home, and though he tried to hide it, you smelled it. He acted as if he was just caught as a 17 year old in his mom’s house.
“Uh, no, it’s nothing! I...I don’t do anything like that!” He insisted.
“Toshi, come on. I can smell it,” you smiled. He covered his face.
“Please, please, keep this between you and I...I only do it because it helps with the pain and-”
You cut him off, “ I dont care why you do it, just lemme have some already!”
Of course, you were just teasing him, and he knew that, but he couldn’t help but ask, “...You smoke?”
You shook your head playfully.
“If you’ll let me, I’d like to try some, though!”
He passed it to you, and you took a way-too-long drag. Instantly, you were doubled over, coughing and hacking your lungs out.
He patted your back firmly.
“Since this is your first time, you’re gonna cough a little. Just try to take smaller puffs and take deep breaths. There you go.”
Once you recovered, and Yagi got his turn, he handed the joint back to you. It continued to be passed back and forth between you two until it was finally no longer than a centimeter.
For a moment, you both just chilled out on the couch together, just vibing. That was until Toshinori noticed your goofy, dreamy facial expression. He chuckled to himself, but that was all you needed to become hysterical, laughing so hard that you couldn’t breathe. Seeing you laugh so much of course made Toshi a mess as well, which only added to your decent into utter madness.
Eventually, though, you both calmed down, and Toshi excused himself so that he could go take a quick bath. He often did this whenever he smoked, so that the warm water could aid even more in soothing his aching muscles and creaky bones.
So you were left alone. Totally unattended. At first, everything was totally fine.
However, as you started to actually feel the effects of the herb, you began to panic.
Is this normal? Does everyone else feel like this when they smoke? Oh God, this isn’t right...oh fuck, I’m gonna be the first dumbass to OD on THC...fuck...
Thoughts whizzed past your brain, every single one making sure you knew how totally fucked you were.
Tears streamed silently down your cheeks as you counted your pulse with two fingers on your wrist, but you coulnd’t find a pulse.
oh fuck...i’m probably going to pass out any minute now...it’s all over...
Images of your final goodbyes to everyone you loved flashed just behind your eyes.
“How’re you holding up, pumpkin?” asked Toshi, coming back from the bath, in a robe and his golden hair still damp.
You looked at him, your eyes red and puffy.
“Toshi...I’m...I’m dying...I love you, okay?” you murmured. He would have laughed, all except he saw the genuine fear in your eyes.
He sat down next to you, surrounding you with all of his lanky limbs.
“You’re not dying, honey. What you’re feeling right now is totally normal, I promise. Take some nice, deep breaths for me. Come on. There you go. Good.”
He cradled you there for a good while, until he felt your tense muscles finally slacken, and your breathing evened out.
Toshi made a mental note to never let you smoke that much ever again, guilt pinching at his sides.
Fatgum/Taishiro Toyomitsu
You had taken an edible cookie from your friend. She told you it was just a small bit in there, just enough for you to feel something.
You decided to be modest, eating just half of the cookie. You didn’t notice any effects, and out of sheer boredom you decided to go ahead and eat the rest of it. No harm in that, right?
Well, an hour later, it kicked in. You were expecting to feel something interesting, but you definately weren’t expecting anything like this at all.
Everything seemed so far away. Even your breathing sounded like it was coming down a long corridor and echoing to your ears. You could feel your soul swimming in your body.
Fatgum, who you lived with, luckily finished his hero duties early, and walked into the house joyfully as usual.  He called out your name. You didn’t reply.
His large footsteps could be heard, but you were too busy thinking about how weird breathing sounds to notice.
Fatgum soon found you collapsed on the bathroom floor, face pressed against the cool tile.
Immediately, he propped you up against the wall, looking into your eyes with great concern.
“What did you take? Y/n, look at me. What did you take?”
You lazily looked at him, your face completely serious. As serious as it could be, anyway.
“...i...it was...edible...” you mumbled out. As soon as he understood, he was laughing hysterically.
“s..stop...s not funny...” you grumbled, punching him in the gut.
“Alright, alright... let’s get you into bed. You’ll feel much better once you wake up,” he smiled, picking you up and bringing you into the bedroom.
You quickly were comforted by the warm, heavy comforter. Fatgum took a moment to look at you in your groggy state, trying his best to hold back a laugh. It was so painfully obvious that you’d never done anything like this in your life. His only regret was not being around to witness your ascent into cloud 9.
Soon, though, you had drifted into dreamland.
Hizashi Yamada
You locked yourself in your bathroom, sneakily lighting up the joint you bought off of your friend. Your boyfriend was in his room, playing Fortnite or some shit, and frankly, you were embarrassed to smoke in front of him. You knew that he’d definately find something to roast you about, and he was relentless.
A couple minutes after you lit up, though, the door was basically busted down.
“HEY, HEY! You better be planning on sharing some of that!” yelled Hizashi, his hand already out and waiting. He still had his headset on, but you saw with relief that his mic was turned off. You passed it to him.
“Augh! Where the hell didja get this weak shit, y/n? Nah, this ain’t gonna cut it,” he complained, putting it out.
“Hey! I got that from my friend, dude! What the hell?” you frowned. Before you could be too mad at the waste, though, Hizashi pulled out a small wooden box from under his bed. Opening it, he revealed his stash of entirely too much pot.
You covered your mouth, stifiling a laugh. How the fuck could you have not smelled it?
Within five minutes, he’d rolled up a blunt, and was passing it to you, already lit.
It was gone after a little over half an hour, and you could already feel the effects. Your eyes were dry, your stomach craving junk food, and your brain craving chill vibes.
He returned to his game, unbothered but his volume definately toned down about 5 notches. He was a lot more chill than you’d ever seen him act, ever.
You found your way into the kitchen.
Once his game was over, he met you in there. You were in front of the fridge, pulling out thing after thing. By the time he’d gotten to you, you had eaten half a jar of pickles, three pieces of cake (with your bare hands), drank a bunch of soda, and you were headed for the chips that were sitting idly on the top of the fridge.
“oh, God...what the fuck are ya up to, dude?” he groaned. He did not want to deal with this mess.
You grinned at him.  “I dunno, maan... look dude could you just get me these up here? please bro...” you giggled. He sighed dramatically, taking them.
However, instead of handing them over to you, with your dirty little fingers, he ate them.
“stoppp, bro, please lemme get some!” you pouted. He acted as if he couldn’t hear you, leaving the kitchen. You followed after him, kicking him in the shins.
Still, he didn’t seem to notice.
“Hizashi, come on, maaannnn!”
He laid himself on the bed, covering himself with blankets. He pulled out his phone, calling you.  “Y/n, I miss you so much, man. Come chill out!” he spoke into the phone, trying his best not to break the act. You were absolutely furious at this point, punching at him.
“I’m right here, you doughnut!!” you groaned.  Dramatically sighing, Hizashi frowned, “I really wish y/n was here to sesh with me...” all while still eating the chips. You jumped on top of him.
Finally, you caught him off gaurd, grabbed the chips, and locked yourself back up in the bathroom.
This time, though, he just left you be.

The Scent of Leather and Hairspray
Present Mic/Hizashi Yamada x F!reader ONESHOT
(WARNINGS! - swearing)
---------
Sooooooo, I have a new favorite Pro, I guess haha
I hope you enjoy, and if you're underage, pretend you're older because I get it, I'd be Hot For Teacher too, but he's not a pedo sorry......
----------
You sighed as, upon exiting the store where you just purchased a frozen drink, the men you passed to enter that store started catcalling you. Just what you needed at the end of a rough day...
"Hey Honey, you'd be cuter if you smiled...!"
"Don't listen to that shit, babygirl, you're sexy as hell, c'mere and hang out a while...?"
Ignoring them the best you could, you kept walking, but they didn't take that very well. "You think you're too good for us, that it, stuck up bitch? Where you think you're goin'?"
You could hear their footsteps approaching behind you and turned to face them after sipping from your drink.
"Guys, please, I've had a hell of a day today and my quirk would probably scar you both for life and what do you say we just don't do this, huh?"
They exchanged glances before fixing you with threatening glares. "You think you're tough, babygirl? We'll see how tough you are when we get through teaching you some respect..." the first one said.
"HEY!"
A voice called from behind you and suddenly an arm was draped gently around your neck. You froze, being caught off guard tended to prompt a panic response when you were so tired.
You smelled leather and an overwhelming scent of hairspray.
"What's the trouble, my homies? Pretty sure ya heard the lady, she ain't jammin' to the vibe ya layin' down, ya dig? Beat it."
Heart skipping a beat or two, your eyes grew wide and a blush flooded your cheeks. "That voice...?!"
You whipped your head up to see the one and only Present Mic.
"Ah! I knew it! I knew I recognized your voice, I catch your radio show every day! You're the Sound Hero, Present Mic!" he flashed a grin down at you, winking.
"Oooh, you've got good ears, Listener! Thanks for Hypin' me up like that! Always great ta meet a FAAAN!" he responded in his commentator voice.
One of your would be tormentors interrupted angrily. "Hey, peacock head, why don't you mind your business?"
"PEACOCK...?! You boys best get ta steppin', aight?! Don't make me beat you up in fronta this pretty girl!" he replied in annoyance after his attention was so aggressively stolen from you.
The blush came back in full force and you couldn't contain a dreamy sigh as your lashes fluttered, eyes lidding contentedly now that you felt safe again.
*he said I was pretty~!* you thought.
"You believe this banana hair lookin' motherfucker? You're about to get your ass whooped, fruity!" the other threatened.
"Hey bro, watch your language! There's a lady here!" with the arm around your shoulders, Mic carefully raised it and guided you behind himself as the two started walking towards you both.
"Enough..."
Another voice came suddenly from the other side of the parking lot and everyone, with the exception of the blonde who was guarding you, turned to see Eraserhead.
Suddenly these jerks weren't so confident.
"Get lost, both of you, and go straight home or I'll bring the two of you in right now for loitering and harassment." he said calmly but with deep authority.
Mic crossed his arms, glaring at the duo as they ran off after a mere moment of hesitation, his cheeks puffed out slightly. "What a couple creepozoids! You okay, Pussy Cat...?" he quickly spun around to check you out, striking a dramatic pose while pointing at you, the trademark grin already back in place.
You smiled up at him with admiration sparkling in your eyes, clasping the cup you held in both hands and tight to your chest, stepping closer to him.
"Yes, thanks to you! You're my Hero~!"
Mic felt his own chest swell with pride a bit, the grin on his face getting bigger as he relaxed his stance and shoved his hands in his jacket pockets.
Usually by now the damsel has already flung herself on Aizawa, but not only were you praising him, you recognized him from just his voice and he was impressed at that.
"I can't believe I was just rescued by my favorite Pro, I am your #1 fan! Please, are you patrolling the city tonight? Please let me buy you a coffee or tea or something?? Just as a thank you...?"
Hizashi laughed rather loudly, one hand emerging from his pocket to be placed over his chest.
"HAHA! Aaaww, how can I say NO when you ask so sweetly?! Coffee sounds like a rockin' idea right about now!"
"Ugh, we don't have time for this, Mic..." Eraserhead complained tiredly.
Eyes rolling in exasperation, the blonde groaned twice as loud. "ugGHHH!! Don't be such a buzzkill, yo! I'll get you one, too, just chill!" with that, he trailed after you back into the store.
You watched as he doctored up the coffee you poured for him, blushing again when he threw a hint of a smirk your way, using the tip of his finger to lift the gold tinted shades he wore and showing you his emerald green eyes. "Don't worry, I'll pay for my boring friend..."
Smiling, you bounced on your heels. "Damn right you will, I'm not HIS fangirl, after all..."
This promoted a slight blush to his face, but he maintained that knockout grin. "Ha! Well, good thing his best friend is here at least, lucky for him I tagged along tonight, huh??"
"Lucky for both of us..." came your soft reply from over your shoulder as you turned to walk away, your hips swaying temptingly had definitely not escaped his notice.
He followed you to the checkout counter and placed some money beside yours, his ungloved fingertips brushing against your own when he does. Leaning down closer to you, he cocked his head, pushing his shades down his nose this time and raising a brow.
"Does my #1 fan have a name...?"
Your smile bloomed again, blushing up at him. "It's  _______...but I might prefer you calling me Pussy Cat...~"
Saying that last bit, you applied a sensual undertone which he picked up on instantly, making his blush spread over his face and grow darker as he chuckled in amusement.
When you guys walked out the door, you noticed Eraserhead seemed really annoyed but tried to ignore him, looking up at the Voice Hero hopefully.
"Listen, I know you're both busy, but if you have just one more second to spare, I can't tell you how much it would mean to me if I could get your autograph..."
Looking away awkwardly, he made a pained expression. "Aw, man, I dunno, we are kinda in a hurry here and stuff..."
You felt your heart sinking when he startled you with another loud laugh. "Hahaha, gotcha! JK! Of course I will, I ain't gonna leave ya hangin' like that, no way, that ain't my STYYYYYYYYLLLE!"
Giddy with excitement, you let out a tiny squeal, quickly fishing out a small notebook and pen from your purse as he set the cups down. When you handed it to him, his fingers brushed yours again, making you bite tenderly at your bottom lip.
They were so warm and soft...
He had started to whistle a cheerful little tune as he spun the pen between his fingers before starting to write in your book, it took longer than you expected, clearly longer than Eraser expected, too.
"Say goodbye to the girl, Mic, it's time to keep moving!" he didn't yell, exactly, too lazy, but he had raised his voice since last.
"YEAH, YEAH, I HEARD YA!!! Gimme a sec, ALRIGHT?!" the volume of the blonde's reply actually made your eardrums flinch and quiver this time, but you smiled anyway as he defended you again.
"There ya go! And hey, just to spite my buddy over there, I wouldn't mind walkin' ya home ta make sure ya get there safe."
The blush came right back, clutching the book to your heart, you gave a weak smile. "No, no, it's okay, really...I took up too much of your time already, and I only live around the corner from here..."
Eyes closing momentarily while you gathered yourself, you took a deep breath before confessing. "...I cannot express how grateful I am for you...not just for saving me tonight, but also for your talk show, hearing your voice over the radio gives me strength and motivation every week...it means the world to me...thank you..."
Beckoning him by flexing a finger, you stood on your tiptoes and pressed a sweet kiss against his cheek when he leaned in curiously.
Eyes widening, his whole face became scarlet red and his grin stretched from ear to ear. "AW, YEAH!"
He jumped, pumping his fists in the air and then proceeded to shoot you with his finger guns while  winking again. "Listen, I dropped my digits on that piece'a paper ya got there, Shawty...hit me up sometime if ya wanna chill! I'm down for whatever!"
You were caught off guard by that and checked the page he signed for you, finally reading what he wrote down as he rambled on as background noise about how he wasn't a creep like those other guys and you could say no without worrying about him making a scene, he just had to shoot his shot, I mean you DID kiss ME first ya know...
"For my #1 fan, _______...Thanks for the coffee and stay outta trouble! ...and maybe call or shoot a txt, if your feelin' this funky vibe, too? Live loud, Pussy Cat ;) don't ever let anyone try an put the mute on ya! XOXOX PRESENT MIC!!!"
Followed by his phone number, and there were little hearts drawn around the page.
You were already blushing when he surprised you again by returning your gesture and swooping in to plant a kiss on your cheek this time.
Reaching up to touch the spot, you smiled up at him shyly. "I can't wait...please be safe out there..."
"You got it! SEE YA SOON!" The Pro nodded vigorously, giving an enthusiastic wave of goodbye before grabbing his and Eraserhead's drinks, practically bouncing with every step.
It made you giggle, but you were trying not to get your hopes up too much. For all you knew, he gave his number out to every girl that asked him for a signature.
"Are you happy now...?" Shouta grumbled, taking the cup being offered as he turned to resume patrolling. "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! HECK YEAH I AM! I'M ON CLOUD NINE RIGHT NOW, I JUST MET MY FUTURE WIFE!!!!!!!!"
You heard him very clearly, the blush traveling all the way down your neck this time, and you couldn't help another small giggle, your heart fluttering with happiness like the wings of the butterflies in your belly.
He just had that effect on you.
Glancing down at the notebook in your hand as you sipped your quickly melting frosty, you noticed in the bottom right corner was a little arrow, below which was written the word "flip".
You looked up again but the two Pro Heroes were already gone.
Curiously, you flipped over the page.
MARRY ME?!?!!
a. YES!!!!!
b. a
c. b
That smooth sonuvabitch had you blushing and giggling all night.

------------------------
Sonny was watching TV with Amanda when his phone went off. He paused the movie and answered the phone:
“Barba it’s kinda late--”
“What's wrong with your cousin?” he flatly said.
“Excuse me?” Sonny asked. “What kind of question is that?”
“Just answer the question, Carisi,” Barba insisted.
“Well it's a loaded question, Barba.” Sonny replied.
“Okay then just answer me this,” Barba sighed. “Why did I come back to my apartment to find her halfway through my once full bottle of vodka and pouting on the couch. Oh, after she had gone through all of my things of course,”
“Aw shit,” Sonny muttered under his breath. “That's kind of on me, Barba,”
“One second babe,” He muttered to Amanda, while he got up and went into his kitchen.
“Babe?” Barba asked.
“It’s just Rollins,” Sonny dismissed it.
“So you have feelings for me, but you’re fucking Rollins?” He asked in a snarky tone.
“What, are you jealous or somethin’ Barba?” Sonny smirked.
“No, don’t be stupid,” Rafael rolled his eyes. “Why is it on you?” He changed the subject.
“I should have never filled her head with doubts and suspicions and then sent her back to your place; when I should have known that you would keep a full bar in your apartment,” Sonny sighed as he ran his hands through his hair.
“Well of course I would keep a stocked bar in my apartment Sonny, I entertain people and I'm a grown man,” Rafael scoffed.
“Yeah, again it's on me,” Sonny repeated.
“Okay so what is wrong with your cousin?” Rafael asked.
“I think that pretty much answers it, don't you think?” Sonny asked in a “duh” tone.
“... I see,” Rafael glanced at his bedroom door wearily.
“Where is she now? Did you send her away? Please tell me you didn't send her away,” Sonny begged.
“No I didn't send her away, she's sleeping it off in my bedroom,” He got up and walked to his bedroom door. “I didn't want to just kick her out because she was upset. I'm not that big of a dick,” He whispered as he watched you sleep. You looked so calm and peaceful, that’s the girl he remembered.
“ You know, this should probably be better explained in person,” Sonny walked back into his living room where Amanda glanced over at him. He motioned for her to get her stuff together.
“Can I come over?”
“Yeah okay, not like I have anything else to do,'' he rolled his eyes as he shut his bedroom door and walked back to his living room.
--------------.
Sonny showed up to Rafael's apartment with a loaded head and a semi heavy conscience. He knocked on the door and Rafael let him inside.
“Okay so what kind of long story is this,” Rafael asked while he poured himself a glass of scotch. He noticed Sonny giving him a weird look.
“What? It's not like she's in here now,” he rolled his eyes.
“True,” He nodded. “Do you have beer?”
“Yes, dark or light?” Rafael made a disgusted face while he asked. He couldn't stand the taste of beer but he always had it on him just in case he had barbarians over such as Sonny.
“Shiner Bock, if you have it,” Sonny requested. Rafael nodded as he went into his ‘party fridge’ and handed him one before sitting on the couch across from him.
“Alright so where do I start?” Sonny thought out loud.
“Well I guess first of all I wanted to say I don’t wanna say I told you so, but this is exactly why I didn't want you and Y/N to get involved in the first place. It had nothing to do with my feelings for you. It’s because I know that you tend to keep relationships with guys and girls chill and casual, but Y/N is a special case and special to me,”
“Yeah.. I wish you had expressed that before,” Rafael groaned.
Well what was I supposed to say in front of her, Barba? ‘Oh hey by the way, you probably shouldn't get involved with my trainwreck of a cousin? Sonny asked defensively.
“Maybe? I don’t know…” Rafael sighed as he put his head in his hands.
“Look, Rafael,” Sonny put a hand on his shoulder. “It’s not like she’s some kinda degenerate junkie,”
“Oh well, that’s great--” He started to roll his eyes.
“I’m serious Rafael!” He pounded the table.
“Okay okay, I’m sorry Sonny,” He finally used his first name, trying to be as soft with him as possible. He could see how much you meant to him, and it was really endearing. “Go ahead,”
“Alright,” Sonny sighed, ready to tell your life story. You would probably kill him later for it, but there was no hiding your...issues now, he might as well get the whole context.
“Well, first of all-- her dad died before she was born, overdose,” He began. “Then she was stuck with her junkie mother, my auntie. Who by the way at this point, nobody had heard from in years,” He took a sip of beer.
“So anyways,” He began again. “One day, she showed up at my mom’s doorstep with Y/N, and told her that she can’t take care of Y/N, or that she didn’t want to,” He sighed. “She was three years old by then, I don’t even wanna think about what happened before then,”
“Jesus…” Rafael muttered.
“I was eight years old at the time, my sisters were even younger. My mom and dad had enough on their plate with just us. So, I kinda took her under my wing,” He went on.
“We became so close, she wanted to go by “Sunny” just so she could be like me. I told her it would be confusing for the two of us, so I called her Sunshine, Sunny for short. That way if I’m calling her sunny, then obviously it’s not myself,” He chuckled. To this day, he still called you Sunshine.
“But as she grew up, she just...kinda had a rough go. She didn’t really interact with kids her own age, she was really defensive and untrusting with anybody but me. Not even my parents. And then we got the call that her mother died, and it ripped me up inside to see her body at the funeral. It was so fucked up, she was so fucked up. That’s why I-- I think something really bad happened to her when she was with her mother, Rafael. Like-- really, bad.
“Fuck..." Rafael muttered while glancing at his bedroom door. He didn't want to imagine what you had been through at such a young age. He wanted to run in his room right now and just hold you, but he kept his composure.
“So then I went off to college when she was ten years old, just about to start junior high. She begged me to stay, but I told her she had a good family and that my parents and sisters loved her as much as I did, and to stay out of trouble. But...kids are cruel. They made her harder, and harder. Without me there to be her-- I dunno, her guiding light or her-- protector, she just kinda fell into a bad crowd by the time high school rolled around,” He sighed while taking another swig of beer.
“...Right,” Rafael nodded.
“So when i came home from school my mom told me she was going to kick Sunny out. I asked her why, and she went on and on about how she had gotten in with these local girls who were like, I dunno some kinda girl gang, and they’d knock over liquor stores and then get drunk and stoned. She said she was never around anyway, unless it was to steal money out of her purse; And she just didn’t wanna deal with her anymore,”
“...But she was only fifteen at the time,” Rafael was stunned.
“Yeah, and that’s what I told her!” Sonny exclaimed. “Look Barba my mom is the salt of the earth, but like I said she had a lot on her plate and my dad wasn’t around a lot-- and she had three other daughters to watch out for,”
“Three of her OWN daughters,” Rafael clarified with a judgmental tone.
“HEY,” Sonny warned. “I know how it sounds. And maybe-- maybe you’re right, maybe that’s why she washed her hands clean of Sunny. Because she was just a by-product of her fucked up sister. But I-- I’m not gonna condemn her for it. And you sure as hell don’t get to judge her,”
“You’re right,” Rafael nodded while sipping his scotch.
“So I took Sunny in,” Sonny finished his beer as he wrapped up his story. “I took her in while I went through the police academy. I made sure she got sober, quit hangin’ out with those girls, I got her to do well in school, hell I got her to graduate high school!”
“And…?” Rafael pressed.
“...And when I started bouncing around precincts, she was finally a productive member of society so she started living on her own. She had a few jobs, but never really going anywhere. So once I got placed here in SVU and started making better money, I started helping her out with rent and her car, as long as she promised to start going to community college. Which she agreed to because she really does wanna make something of herself,” He half smiled thinking about how far you had come and how proud he was to call you his cousin now. You were so full of life with dreams and ambitions he never saw in you as a scared little kid.
“Okay so-- how does all of this lead to what happened tonight?” Rafael leaned back and crossed his arms.
“Because she’s still an addict, Barba!” Sonny tried not to yell, but didn’t understand why Rafael was still so flippant about you.
“Just because she got her life together-- I got her life together, doesn’t mean that she just got ‘better’. She’s on a daily see-saw of sobriety. I do weekly ‘drop ins’ just to check on her. It’s gotten a lot better as time goes on, and the less and less I worry about her, but--” He took a breath and looked at the floor.
“....Deep down she’s still that little girl with all of her walls and her distrust. She doesn’t have friends, I really don’t think she’s ever had a stable ‘boyfriend’ or ‘girlfriend,’ I mean she-- she doesn’t, talk to people,” He paused before looking up and into Rafael’s eyes.
“...Which is why it has been yankin' my chain tryin’ to figure out just why in God’s name she was so-- open, to you,” He finally admitted. “She’s never been that close to anybody else but me, not in her entire life,”
“Wait,” Rafael put a finger up. “So...you haven’t actually been jealous of Y/N this whole time, you’ve been jealous of me?” He half laughed.
“I mean, it’s a little of both,” He shrugged with a small smile, able to joke about his feelings now. “But I meant what I said when I first got here, I know the main thing that Y/N needs in her life right now is stability. And you-- you are not stable, in the least,”
“Oh I’m the unstable one?” Rafael raised an eyebrow.
“Relationship wise, yeah,” Sonny pointed out.
“....Fair point,” Rafael nodded as he finished off his scotch. He knew the longest relationship he had ever had was with the cute barista he saw every morning who knew how to make his coffee just right. And that relationship only took him five minutes a day to maintain.
“So…” Sonny knocked Rafael from his thoughts.
“So...what?” Rafael quirked an eyebrow.
“So, I think that--” Sonny took a deep breath, knowing you might hate him for this. But it was for the best, and it needed to be said.
“I think that if you care anything about her, or me for that matter, that you let me take her home, and forget about this whole weekend,”
“....I mean…” Rafael rubbed the back of his neck. He didn't want to let you go. Well, he didn't want to let go of the girl he had met at Forlini's. The girl who made him laugh, who he could be his true self around, the girl he might---
“Look the bottom line here Barba is that Y/N is-- a lot of work. I should know, I’ve been taking care of her for 19 years. But I don’t mind it, because I love her more than anything else in this world. Well, her and the rest of my family. But still-- I love her,” Sonny now stood up.
“And I get that you like her, but she--- she has gotten way too serious about you way too fast, and way too hard. And this?” He gestured around the room, referring to the whole night. “This ain’t even the tip of the iceberg with her, if she’s really fallen off the wagon,”
“...God dammit,” Rafael stood up and began to pace in his living room. He thought about every single second he had spent with you since he met you; you had never seemed so...broken, as Sonny was describing you.
“What I’m saying is, unless you’re ready to-- ‘deal’ with her, and everything that comes with that, please for the love of God, just walk away now,” Sonny pleaded.
“Because she won’t listen to me if I tell her to stay away from you. And if things get too ‘real’ for you, you’re just gonna freak out or-- or get bored, and throw her away. Her self worth will drop to shit. And if that happens, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get her back from that,”
“I would never just throw her away, Carisi,” Rafael rolled his eyes.
“You can’t say that, Barba,” Sonny debated.
“And why the hell not?” Rafael narrowed his eyes.
“Because you’ve never NOT just ‘thrown away’ someone,” He chuckled. “That front door might as well be a garbage chute,”
“You son of a--” Rafael started to yell at him but Sonny cut him off.
“Tell me I’m wrong, Barba. Look me in the eyes and tell me I have no idea what I’m talking about, and I’ll leave here and let you deal with her the way you want to,” Sonny looked at him pensively. Rafael looked at him for several seconds, then softened his glare into a sad concession.
“....Take her,” He muttered softly while looking at the ground.
“Thank you,” Sonny mumbled softly as he turned to go retrieve your passed out self from the bedroom. However, he was instead met with the most unsettling sight:
You were standing in the doorway of the room, glaring at the two of them.
“...H-Hey, Sunshine--” Sonny tried to appease you with an awkward smile.
“Don’t,” You growled, stomping into the living room and began packing your bag.
“Y/N, what are you--” Rafael went to put a hand on your bag but you snatched it away before you shot fire out of your eyes into his gaze.
“Oh, I’m sorry, did I misunderstand what you just said?” You barked at him with tears in your eyes. “Because I’m pretty damn sure I heard ‘take her’. You know like I’m some sort of defective Amazon package,”
“That’s not what I meant---” He softly spoke, the guilt of his words being heard by you was quickly eating him alive.
“No I know what you meant, Rafael,” You zipped your duffel shut angrily.
“I heard the whole god damn spiel. Which, by the way, thank you so much for detailing my entire little sob story, cousin,” You glared at Sonny as you started walking towards the front door, shoulder checking him.
“But neither of you have to worry about anything anymore, okay? You’re released from your ‘duties’. This trainwreck is leaving the station, so you can relax,” You looked at the both of them with pain in your eyes, tears cracking your words.
“Sunshine--” Sonny started after you.
“DON’T,” You glared at him while putting a finger up. “Don’t ever call me that again,”
“At least let me drive you home--”
“No,” You shook your head. “And you know what, cuz? I didn’t realize I was such a financial burden, so you know what? Cut me off. Because I’d rather be homeless again than take any more money from you,”
“What did I do?!” Sonny was now angry. “All I did was come over and try to protect you, that’s it!”
“I don’t need your protection!” You screamed. “This whole time...this whole time, I thought you were proud of me. That you trusted me,”
“I do trust you--”
“You don’t!” You stomped your foot while tears streamed down your face. “Y-You think that if . one single thing like a boy not liking me is gonna set me off, like I’m some kind of bomb you’ve kept from detonating for years. My life is not your responsibility anymore, Sonny! I don’t think it ever was!”
“Well who’s else was it gonna be?!”
“NOBODY’S!!!!” You finally dropped your duffel bag and kicked the wall, leaning your head against it. You were strangely quiet for a long pause before you spoke again in an eerily calm voice.
“...Do you know why my mother “dropped me off’ with your mother?”
“Because she couldn’t take care of you--”
“No I heard what you said,” You sniffled with a sad smile. “Because she didn’t want to,”
“Sunshine--”
“But leaving me with your mother, was her plan b,” You cut him off, still looking at the floor.
“What do you mean?” Sonny asked cautiously while looking at Rafael who had a terrified look in his eyes.
“She didn’t want to ‘burden’ her sister with me, but she had to when I wouldn’t die,”
“...W-What?” Rafael almost choked on the words in disbelief.
“She tried to smother me with a pillow, but I wouldn’t die. I kept screaming and crying, and I guess it touched her strand of humanity, so she stopped,” You rolled your eyes with the same sad smile.
That memory was forever imprinted in your brain. The terror of being woken up in blackness, unable to breathe. The smell of the cigarette smoke covered pillow being shoved into your throat and nostrils. Your mother crying and telling you it would be over soon, just to let go. And finally her sad, pathetic whimpers and sobs when she finally lifted the pillow from you, disappointed in herself that she couldn’t do one good thing in her life. That now she was going to have to pass you, her problem, onto her sister.
“Y/N, baby girl--” Sonny stepped towards you again.
“I wasn’t supposed to be raised by anybody, Sonny. I’m not even supposed to be alive!” You stomped your foot again while tears continued to flow.
“That’s not true!” He ran over and grabbed you in a hug. “You are not a burden,”
“Really?” You laughed sarcastically into his shoulder as you pushed him away from the hug. “You just said your mom didn’t even want to deal with me. Nobody did,”
“I did!” He argued. “I do,”
“Yeah well, maybe I’m my mother’s daughter. I don’t wanna be your burden,” You picked up the duffel and opened the door.
“Okay well you have no choice in that so you’re gonna have to let that go,” Sonny grabbed your hand before you could walk away.
“Fine,” You finally conceded with a blank expression.
“Guess I’ll just have to let a lot of things go, won’t I?” Your voice cracked as you looked at Rafael one more time with the saddest eyes.
He stared back at you with a stone cold face. He wanted so badly just to go and hold you in his arms, telling you how you didn’t deserve any of what happened to you, and that you deserved everything good and all the love in the world. But Sonny’s pleas were still in his head.
He didn’t know if he wanted the responsibility of your entire self worth and happiness, let alone your sobriety on his shoulders. He didn’t even like to get close to clients with that many issues, the pressure was too much. So instead he just stood there, trying not to show how much this was killing him, sending you away like this.
“Come on Sunshine, just-- let’s go, okay?” Sonny pleaded with you softly, pulling at your hand. You didn’t answer, you just nodded and started walking down the hallway towards the elevator, leaving Sonny at the door.
“...Thank you, Barba,” He mumbled softly, nodding at Rafael. Rafael barely nodded back before Sonny closed the door.
As soon as it was closed, Rafael dropped on his knees and began to cry. He didn’t know why exactly, was he crying because he felt horrible for all the shit you had gone through? Was he angry at himself for not being able to get over his own bullshit to actually open up and care about someone for more than a week? Was he really that big of a hypocrite, showing empathy to clients all the time but shutting out the one person he felt he might-- he couldn’t even think it. He wouldn’t let himself think it. He just composed himself and poured another scotch while turning on the TV, trying to forget what just happened.
His NETFLIX menu popped up; it asked him if he wanted to continue watching Bojack Horseman. He closed his eyes and muttered obscenities in spanish while memories of the night before flooded his brain, making him cry angry tears once more. He finally decided just to go to bed, maybe his brain would release him from torture if he could turn it off.
He wasn’t sure he could ever turn it off now.

Y’all remember that Dirk John AU that I said I wanted to write...well it has taken a turn. Now it reads more like little windows into a budding relationship.
Here’s to childhood friends!
The first time John considers the idea of boys kissing boys he’s in the fourth grade. It is also the last time he plays hide and seek.
“I think I’m too old for hide and seek,” Dirk pushes John’s face away with the hard plastic of the game controller. His older brother is supposed to be picking him up from the sleepover soon, but if the dog-shaped clock on the wall isn’t wrong, Dave is already half an hour late.
John flinches and falls back into the bed. Dirk is willing to ignore him for Rainbow Road but John’s disappointed expression holds his attention.
“You sound like Janey,” John mutters. “Everyone says they’re too old and I’m too little. But you’re only a year older! Stop treating me like I’m a baby!” John kicks his legs around and apologizes when he lands a hit on Dirk’s leg.
Dirk watches John in silence for a moment. His sisters have pointed out that he should try to be less blunt since you catch more flies with honey, not that he’s entirely sure why he’s supposed to catch flies, or how he’s supposed to speak in honey.
“You are a baby.”
As soon as the words leave his mouth, Dirk knows he has messed up. John’s face drops with a betrayed wail. He quickly tosses a pillow in Dirk’s direction.
“It’s not a bad thing,” Dirk swats the pillow away. He reaches over and ruffles John’s dark hair in an affectionate manner like Dirk’s own older siblings will do to him whenever Dirk is upset.
“It’s cute and fun and it means you get away with lots of stuff.”
John still wears the insult on his face as he scoots to the edge of the bed. Their legs dangle over the edge of the bed and John’s chest twists when he notices that Dirk’s feet already touch the ground.
He pushes his thick-rimmed glasses up the bridge of his nose and sighs.
“Yeah, but,” he sighs again, “You’re going to sixth grade next year and then I really will be too little. You’re going to hang out with all of the other big kids and you and Jane are going to forget all about me.”
Dirk scoffs, “I don’t think Jane could forget about you. She’s your sister and you live with her. I’ve tried forgetting about Rose and that’s never worked.”
John lets out a short laugh and Dirk can’t help but smile to himself. He has always thought that John has one of those faces that just doesn’t look right when they’re sad. Like his big sister Roxy. When she gets sad it makes Dirk think that everything is sad.
“Hey,” Dirk says hopping off the bed, “Let’s go play hide and seek.”
--
Despite John being a terrible hider (or Dirk is too good of a seeker), they have fun. Dirk finds it difficult not to fall into John’s infectious enthusiasm for the game. And while he wouldn’t admit it to anyone, Dirk enjoys pretending he’s Detective Conan on the case.
John prefers to hide anyways. Whenever he’s the one looking for Dirk, it takes way too long and makes the game a little boring. John likes the feeling of anticipation that he can’t contain whenever he sees Dirk’s shadow move around and he can hear the light sound of Dirk’s muttering getting closer and closer to wherever John hides.
So when Dirk starts to count John takes off.
He runs as fast as he can through the house and out into the back yard. Dirk said this was the last round and before they play Mario Kart-- John knows he needs to make it count.
His blue sneakers light up green as he hops around assessing a new and ideal hiding location for himself.
The back yard is full of John’s typical hiding spots. There are a few trees and hedges that might work but John has already hidden behind those today. He looks at the dad-approved spots for playing in the backyard and feels the anxious frustration that comes with the pressure of a countdown bubble up.
Dirk is getting closer to the number 100 when John spots a non approved location. The realization makes John feel particularly proud of himself; hiding in a not dad-approved spot behind the tool shed? Dirk will never find him!
John sprints past the scattered and mostly abandoned playground pieces toward the toolshed. It sits under a treelined corner, which hides everything perfectly under the shade of overgrown bushes and machinery. His dad says he should stay away from that side of the house since it is full of sharp and hard metal tools, but John isn’t a baby and he can absolutely handle hiding behind some old walls.
When he sees Jake, John’s first instinct is to drop low and hide. Mostly out of habit, since he feels like the older kids are always hiding something from him but John also hides out of curiosity.
John isn’t entirely sure what is happening. His mind briefly forgets that he’s supposed to be hiding from Dirk, but instead his mind races with questions about what Jake could possibly doing behind the shed.
John shifts his weight and leans over enough to get a better view. His eyes go wide at the sight.
He’s never seen people kiss outside of some movies and for a moment John thinks that they are just whispering really close to each other. It’s not until Jake’s hand moves up and readjusts their angle, that it clicks for John.
Jake is kissing Dave, Dirk’s big brother.
John is halfway to a loud gasp that gets cut off as Dirk covers his mouth with his hand. His eyes are just as wide as John’s and he can’t help but think that it’s the most expressive he’s seen his friend be in a while. John takes in the additionally rare view long enough that he forgets his initial scandal for a moment. He fixates on the bright blush that covers Dirk’s face.
Dirk swallows hard before he looks away from where his brother is kissing John’s older cousin. When he looks down, John is staring at him confused.
He takes John’s hand and as quiet as possible, leads him back toward the house. As soon as their feet touch the bricks of the back patio, both boys sprint into the house tripping over each other and past John’s confused sister, until they reach John’s mess of a bedroom.
“What was that!” John shrieks.
Dirk hushes him and pushes John toward the window. Dirk crouches down so that he can barely look over the window sill.
“Don’t just stand there,” Dirk means to sound annoyed but his voice trails with distraction.
John watches Dirk quietly and wonders what he’s thinking about. He looks a little more like his regular self, compared to the surprised expression from earlier, if not maybe a little bit more serious.
“That was weird right?” John whispers after a moment. “Boys aren’t supposed to kiss boys, right?”
Dirk turns and rests his back against the wall. “I dunno,” he mutters, “Says who?” Dirk stares down at his hands as if in deep thought.
John squints his eyes and tries to remember, “I think Zack, the one in Mr.Jenkin’s class, said so.”
Dirk rolls his eyes, “Zack is an idiot. Don’t listen to what he says. He ate dirt once and didn’t even get paid for it.”
John hums in agreement and sits down next to his friend.
“So, not weird? That your big brother and my cousin were, were kissing?”
Dirk shakes his head slowly, almost as if he’s unsure of his own answer.
“I can’t imagine kissing anybody! So gross.” John huffs.
Dirk spares a cautious glance at John and feels relief when he sees John’s toothy grin.
“I mean, eventually, maybe,” John blushes, “I guess I am too little for kissing,” he taps his forehead and thinks, “But so are you!” he rushes, “You too Dirk, you’re too little to kiss. Just because you’re in fifth grade doesn’t mean you can kiss people. Jake is like, a hundred--”
“He’s sixteen,”
John gasps, “That’s still old! So best bro pact, right now, no kissing! Anyone!”
Dirk stares down at John’s offered pinky. His head is still swimming with rapid-fire questions that his brain tries to catalog as fast as they form.
“Dirk!” John hisses, “Promise!”
There’s something about John’s urgency that clears Dirk’s mind.
“Okay,” Dirk concedes and John beams with satisfaction. “But! You can’t tell anyone about what we saw! Best bro promise! You gotta swear on your signed Stay-Puft action figure.”
In the distance, they can hear someone call for Dirk.
“Only if you promise on your secret my little pony collection that you won’t kiss anybody!”
“Ever?”
“Ever!” John shrieks at the same time Jane calls for Dirk.
Dirk wraps their pinkies together and meets John’s determined eyes one more time.
---
John doesn’t really think about kissing much after that.
And he only ever thinks about boys kissing when Jake comes out a year later.
The dreams where John is the one hiding behind the tool shed kissing a faceless blond boy with warm skin and chapped lips won’t start for a few years.

Unrequited (One-Sided Okuyasu x Reader)
Anonymous asked: Hi do you think you can do a fic/scenario of Okuyasu suddenly realizing he has a little crush on Josuke’s s/o (the reader) who is also a part of the gang? And he’s kind of freaking out because that’s his bro’s girl! You can decide whether or not Josuke, his s/o, or both of them find out. If possible can it be fluff/comedy where the crush goes away after some weeks because I can’t handle hurting that sweet boy 🥺. But it’s totally up to you! I know I’d love it either way, you’re the best!
This is a fascinating request, thank you for sending it! I too love Okuyasu and I don’t want to make the poor dude sad, but sometimes it must be done unfortunately. Not too sad though! I hope you enjoy :)
It all started when you gave Okuyasu your favorite flower.
You had been standing outside the school building, waiting for your boyfriend Josuke to finish up his exam, when Okuyasu walked out of the doors wearing an utterly defeated expression. He didn't notice you at first, as he was staring sadly down at his shoes as he shuffled forward, so you called out to him. "Hey, Okuyasu!" you shouted, waving. He looked up at you and smiled, jogging over to your spot leaning against a tall tree.
"Hey, (Y/N)!" he said, waving back at you. "What're you up to - waiting for Josuke?"
"Yeah. Do you think he's almost done with the test?"
Okuyasu nodded. "Probably. I looked over at his paper while I was leaving and he seemed just about finished with the last page."
"Cool." You crossed your arms over your chest, sighing. "Was it hard? I heard from my friend that the practice exam was killer."
Okuyasu's expression fell again, and he nodded. "Yeah. I'm sure I failed it." He shrugged, forcing a smile back onto his face. "But I've never gotten good grades - no point in starting now!"
He laughed, but you could tell he was really bummed out about it. "Hey, it's alright to not get good grades. You know that, right?" He looked at you, eyebrows raised. "Seriously. Everybody has strong suits, and sometimes school just isn't one of them."
Okuyasu sighed, leaning his shoulder next to you against the tree. "I guess. I'm just not sure what any of my strong suits are, then." He cast his gaze downward.
"Are you kidding?" He glanced at you, eyes wide. "You're hilarious, dude! You always make me laugh, even when you're not trying to. You're the most effortlessly funny person I know."
His lips pulled up into a bashful little smile, and he looked away at the school doors. "I - I dunno about - "
"And you're always so positive! Whenever I'm in a bad mood you can always put a spin on whatever I'm upset about. I really admire that." You grinned, placing your hand on his arm. He looked down at your hand resting delicately on his forearm, and he instantly went bright red. "So those are some of your strengths. Remember that, okay?"
He forced himself to look back up at you, trying to pretend he wasn't completely flustered. "Y-yeah. I'll, uh... I will."
You smiled, relieved to hear that, and suddenly you pulled your hand away from Okuyasu and reached into your bag. "I almost forgot, I have something that I'd like you to have!" Okuyasu watched as you carefully pulled a large paper bag out of your schoolbag. It was a little wrinkled. "Just gimme a sec..." You slowly unfolded the bag and pulled out a small, vibrant yellow tulip. "Here!" You presented it to him with a beaming smile.
"Oh man, (Y/N)... I - wow," he managed to sputter out, taking way too long to grab the fragile flower from your hands. "Where'd you get this?"
"My friend's grandmother keeps a little garden in her backyard, and she knows yellow tulips are my favorite, so she grabbed some for me. I'm gonna go home and throw them in some water! They're really beautiful, huh?"
Okuyasu couldn't deny it: he was completely enamored. "Ah, yeah... They're really beautiful." You didn't seem to notice that he wasn't looking exclusively at the flower in his hands as he spoke. He blinked, realizing suddenly where he was and who exactly he was talking to, and he laughed loudly. "Yeah! This is sweet, (Y/N). I'll put it in a vase and put it in the kitchen! I bet my dad'll love it."
"Oh, yeah! I think he will!"
Okuyasu opened his mouth to thank you profusely again, but before he could, he heard a voice call your name from behind him. "(Y/N)!" Your eyes lit up the second you heard Josuke's voice, and you quickly excused yourself before jogging over to him and giving him a big hug.
"How was the test?" you asked him softly, leaning away and clasping his hand in yours.
"Fine, I guess. Last question threw me for a loop but I think I made out alright!" Josuke leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to your forehead. When he looked up, he spotted Okuyasu, who was still standing frozen by the tree. "Yo, Okuyasu! What's up?"
Feeling suddenly and horribly awkward, Okuyasu slowly made his way over to you and Josuke. His already-weird walk felt even more unnatural than it usually did. "Uh, hey, Josuke!" Okuyasu said stiffly, waving his hand through the air. "So the test went alright?"
"Yeah, I think so. How about you?"
Okuyasu shrugged. "Oh, ya know." Josuke laughed a little, and Okuyasu forced himself to chuckle along with him. "But hey, I've gotta run home." Josuke blinked, looking confused. "I, uh... I'm gonna get a head start on my homework! Gotta make up for this shitty test, right?" he explained hastily, trying not to sound too weird.
"Totally. I'll see you around!" Josuke waved quickly at him and turned the other way, probably to head over to the cafe.
Okuyasu started to turn around as well to make his way home, but a hand on his shoulder stopped him. "Hey, Okuyasu."
He had never felt more nervous in his life. He slowly turned around to face you, sucking in a deep breath as he did. You pulled your hand back and tucked it in your pocket. "I was just thinking - if you want, we could study together. We're in different classes but we pretty much learn the same stuff. I think it would be really fun!"
Okuyasu had never blushed this much in his life, he was sure of it. "Ah... Sure! Sounds cool!"
"Great!" You really looked like an angel when you smiled at him. "I'll let you know tomorrow what times are good. I'll see you then!" You turned on your heel and started to run after Josuke, who had made it quite far with his long strides, but after a second you stopped and glanced back. "And don't forget to put the flower in water!" you shouted over your shoulder.
And just like that - you were gone. It was as if you had descended from the heavens to bless Okuyasu with your kindness and beauty. How had he never seen how lovely you were before? He felt like a buffoon, on two counts - that he hadn't realized how incredible you were until now, and that he was completely head over heels for his best friend's girlfriend. He had absolutely no clue what to do.
-----
That had been one week ago, and Okuyasu's still struggling with his monumental crush on you. For the past week, he's suffered immensely every time he's seen you; he seems to be unable to act like anything but an utter fool in your presence. Unluckily for him, today's the day of your little study meetup.
The tulip sits on his kitchen table as he slides his shoes on and heads outside, clutching his school bag. Before he's going to your place, he'll be meeting Koichi and Yukako for a quick drink at the cafe down the street.
He slides out the front door, peering nervously across the street at Josuke's house. He doesn't know how to tell his good friend that he's going on a study date - not a date, dumbass - with his girlfriend. Thankfully, though, it seems that Josuke isn't home. Okuyasu heaves a sigh and walks down the sidewalk with his dignity intact.
It doesn't take long to get to the cafe, and he finds Koichi and Yukako pretty quickly. "Hey, Okuyasu!" Koichi calls, waving him over. "We got you an iced tea," he says as Okuyasu sits down between the two of them at the circular table.
"How's it going?" Yukako asks as she sips a small cup of coffee. "You look stressed."
He does? Okuyasu self-consciously checks his reflection in his glass and frowns. "I'm not surprised." Suddenly, he reaches over and grabs Koichi's hands. "Koichi, dude," he says, looking horribly scared, "I'm in deep shit right now."
"What?" Koichi almost laughs out of sheer confusion, but mostly he just looks unnerved. "What are you talking about? I don't think I've ever seen you this upset."
"It's (Y/N)." Instantly, both Koichi and Yukako's eyes light up with recognition.
"Oh," Yukako says knowingly. "Yeah, we were wondering when you were gonna bring this up."
"What - wondering when?! What the hell do you mean?" Okuyasu's a little horrified by this news, but after a moment he resigns and dips his head. "...It's that obvious, huh?"
"Yeah." Koichi gently places his hand on Okuyasu's shoulder. "I think everyone we know can tell except for Josuke and (Y/N) herself."
"Are you serious?" Okuyasu groans, letting his face drop onto the table. "I just don't know what to do. I think I..." He mumbles this next part. "I think I love her."
"Hm?" Yukako asks, and Okuyasu pitifully lifts his head.
"I think I'm in love with her."
"Oh man." Yukako sighs and turns away. "I get that those are your feelings and you can't really stop them, but Josuke would be so upset to know that."
"Oh, that's rich coming from you!" Okuyasu jabs back, suddenly defensive. "What would you have done if Koichi had been dating a lovely young lady when you fell in love with him?"
Yukako falls silent, and she glances desperately to Koichi. After a brief standoff between the three of them, Koichi finally clears his throat. "You don't have to answer that," he mutters to his girlfriend, then he turns to Okuyasu. "Alright," he says, "point taken. You can't do anything about it. So you want advice, then?"
"Yes. Please." Okuyasu crosses his arms over his chest and sighs. "I've been totally agonizing over this all week."
"Well alright, I'll try." Koichi frowns and clasps his hands together. "Uh... There's really no good way to say this, but I think you're just gonna have to silently suffer."
"Come on, man." Okuyasu grimaces. "I think I know that."
"Okay! Sorry." Koichi thinks again. "Well... Just think about it like this. She's been your friend for a long time, right?" Okuyasu nods hesitantly. "Yeah! So just try to act like you always used to around her. It's not like she's changed at all - it's just your perception. So just remember that she's not trying to fluster you by being so sweet, because she just is sweet, and don't sweat it!" He finishes his little motivational speech with a winning smile.
"Uh..." Okuyasu really isn't sure how much that helped, but still he forces a smile. "Thanks, Koichi. You guys have really helped with my nerves." He reaches out and checks his watch; he's got ten minutes to get to your house. "Well, I should go!" He stands up and takes a deep breath. "I'll see you around!" He waves goodbye to Koichi and Yukako, the wonderful, wisdom-filled couple, and he's off.
-----
When he gets to your house, he's honestly too scared to ring the doorbell, so he just knocks on the door a couple times. For all of Koichi's great qualities, he's really not the best at quelling fears, so his lackluster speech hadn't really helped much. The walk over to your place had been nothing short of agony, and Okuyasu's honestly just looking forward to getting this over with.
Suddenly, the door swings open. "Okuyasu! I'm so glad you could make it."
The second he sees your face, he takes back everything he'd just thought. He feels so, so lucky just to be able to see you, and he'd hang out with you forever despite all his nerves if it meant being the recipient of that beautiful smile. "Ah - hey! Yeah, thanks for having me over."
"Come in! There's a table in the living room, I've got my school stuff in there." Okuyasu awkwardly shuffles into the doorway, kicking off his shoes and walking slowly down the hall to the living room. It's a quaint house, and it matches perfectly with your sunny attitude. "Do you want any tea?" you call from the kitchen. "I've already got hot water going."
"Sure!" he replies, entering the living room and sitting down with his school stuff at the table. He sits by himself and nervously fidgets with his sleeves; his anxiety is coming back with a vengeance. He really isn't sure how he's gonna get through this little study session.
After a minute, you arrive with two mugs of tea. "Here you go! It's just green tea, let me know if you want any honey." You set the mug down delicately in front of him, and the whole scene is so wonderfully domestic that it almost moves him to tears. He forces himself to get it together and quickly thanks you.
You sit down next to him and pull out your math papers, and Okuyasu quickly follows suit. "So is there anything in particular that you've been having trouble with?"
"Uh..." He wracks his brain, but his sheer proximity to you is making it a little difficult to think straight. "Well -  everything." He goes for the copout, not really caring that it makes him sound like an idiot.
"Then we can just do last week's stuff." You take out a pencil and get last week's notes ready. "So do you like your teacher? Mine's actually really nice!"
He glances over at you, raising his eyebrows. "Uh - yeah. My teacher's fine." You look like a pure ray of sunshine - how can one girl be so perfect? Josuke is unbelievably lucky.
The two of you run through a couple math problems while sipping tea and occasionally chatting about school life. It seems that Okuyasu's moved past his nerves and is now just feeling horribly sad that he can't profess his love to you right now. He can't believe that fate could be so cruel to have the love of his life date his closest bro. It really is a travesty in his eyes.
" - Okuyasu? Hey, you there?" He blinks, shaking his head a bit when you say his name. You giggle at the zoned-out look on his face. "There you are. I was just going over how to..." He zones out once again, this time thinking about how adorable your laugh is.
He isn't really listening to the technical math jargon you've been reciting, but he's certainly been paying attention. He watches the way you furrow your brow when you get to a tough problem, and the way your lips turn up at the corners when Okuyasu asks an obvious question. You really are perfect, he realizes as he studies you, and he doesn't think he'll ever be able to not love you -
"Oh, shit!"
Okuyasu jumps when your hand knocks into his mug, and it tips over and spills tea all over his math homework. "Shit, shit, shit..." You hop up and grab some towels before Okuyasu has even realized what happened. "I'm really sorry about that, dude. I can make copies of my notes at school tomorrow and give them to you!" Rather aggressively, you wipe up the tea and crumple up all of Okuyasu's papers to throw them out.
"It's - it's no problem." You had startled him out of his trance with your sudden accident, and he's in a weird headspace. He's honestly a little pissed off at you for ruining his notes. Obviously he doesn't voice that feeling, so he just watches you clean up the tea.
"It didn't get on you, did it?" you ask, looking over at him. He checks his t-shirt and shakes his head 'no.' "Okay, cool." You toss out the last dirty paper towel and sit down next to him. "If I can be candid for a moment... I was getting kinda bored of the math anyways." You laugh, and Okuyasu laughs a little too, mostly out of shock - you seem like a different person all of a sudden. "Do you just wanna play a video game or something?"
That's more up his alley. "Yeah, sure." You put your clean papers away and quickly set up the television. Okuyasu heads into the television room, and he notes that there's one nice, plush armchair and one folding chair set up in front of the TV.
"Do you want the nice chair?" you ask Okuyasu as you hand him the controller.
"Yeah, thanks!" He goes to sit down, but before he can you shove him out of the way and hop in the chair yourself. Shocked, he stumbles for a moment before righting yourself.
"Sike!" you shout, laughing loudly. "Got you!" Okuyasu laughs along with you as you start up the game.
It's a racing game, and almost instantly it gets intense. You clearly have a need to win, and so does Okuyasu. For a moment he considers letting you win, but that thought is dashed when you full-force punch his arm to keep him from taking the lead in one race. After a bout of incredulous laughter at that move, Okuyasu vows to do his best to decimate in this competition.
You both play the game for a couple hours, completely losing track of time and instead focusing on sweet, sweet victory. In the end, you and Okuyasu tie it up pretty evenly, and neither of you are too upset. "Nice work, dude," you say with a grin as you turn the TV off. "You've got skill."
"So do you, I guess," Okuyasu replies as he rolls his eyes. "Well, that was - " He catches a glance out the window and is shocked to find that the sun is setting. "When the hell did it get so dark out?" he mutters, grabbing his now-empty bag. "I gotta make dinner," he tells you as he slides his shoes on. "Thanks for having me over, (Y/N)!"
"Of course! I had a lot of fun. And sorry again about your papers, but a shiny new copy awaits you tomorrow." You pat him on the shoulder as he walks out the door, and just like that, the outing is over.
As Okuyasu makes his way home, he reflects on whatever the hell happened to him back there. When you had spilled his drink, it was as if something clicked - he still isn't quite sure what. All he knows is that is managed to snap him out of his trancelike state, and he ended up having a really great time.
It had been weird hearing you swear, too. You really don't seem like the kind of person who would - well, you do, actually. You are the person who had socked him in the arm to win a video game, after all. It feels to him like he'd been seeing you as some sort of goddess to be revered in the past week, when in actuality, you're just a close buddy and you deserve to be treated as such. It's a weird realization, but Okuyasu's glad he's reached it, for his sake and for yours. You're still beautiful, of course, but you're not the idealized girl he'd made up in his mind over the past seven days.
Josuke and you seem like a really great fit, now that Okuyasu thinks about it. You're both a little brash, but also extremely kind and caring. The two of you are a lovely match, and Okuyasu's really grateful that he gets to know both of you. He's also really, really grateful that this whole unrequited love dilemma is resolved.
-----
The next day, Okuyasu gets the copies from you first thing in the morning. After that, he heads to his class, where he meets up with Josuke at their desks in the back of the room. This is the first time in a week that he hasn't been scared shitless to talk to him.
"Hey, Okuyasu!" Josuke calls, and Okuyasu quickly takes his seat. "What's that?" he asks, gesturing to the notes.
"Oh, (Y/N) and I tried to do some studying yesterday but she ended up spilling tea all over my notes. So she made copies of hers this morning!" Okuyasu laughs a little, because it honestly had been funny when it happened, but Josuke's expression grows solemn. Okuyasu notices this a second later, and suddenly he's overtaken by dread. "Uh... Josuke, you alright?" he asks anxiously.
Josuke sighs and leans back, looking out the window. "I know you have a thing for (Y/N), you don't have to hide it."
"Woah!" Okuyasu feels himself laugh nervously, shaking his head. "No, no, I don't anymore. I swear, Josuke."
Josuke turns to him, eyebrows raised, and he shrugs. "It's fine. I'm not upset at you or anything, dude. I only would be if you acted on it - that would be really messed up."
"Oh, definitely!" Okuyasu nods vigorously in agreement. "I'd never do that." They both fall silent for a minute until Okuyasu finds the right words. "She's really something. You guys are a good pair."
"Haha, yeah." Josuke cracks a wide smile. "I really love her." He starts getting his school books out of his bag. "Somehow she was totally oblivious to how weird you were acting this week, so you're spared from that awkward conversation."
Okuyasu lets out a huge sigh. "Thank God." He gets the rest of his stuff out as well, and as the rest of the students start to trickle in, Okuyasu turns to Josuke with a relieved smile. "Thanks for being so understanding. I'm sorry for this week."
"You're my best friend! Something like this could never change that." Josuke reaches out and pats Okuyasu on the back. "For real though - we've gotta find you a girlfriend." Okuyasu snorts, and Josuke starts laughing with him. "Koichi, (Y/N), and I were gonna go to the school play this Friday if you wanna come with us. The girl playing the lead is a year above us and totally your type."
Okuyasu laughs loudly, garnering a couple looks from his classmates. "Yeah! Sounds good, I'll be there." And before Josuke can reply, the teacher starts taking attendance at the front of the room.
It's been a weird week for Okuyasu. He has a tendency to fall for girls pretty quickly - Josuke still won't let him live down that comment he'd made about Ms. Higashikata - so he's not really surprised that he'd fallen head over heels for you in the span of ten minutes. He's just glad that it's passed, and that's he's gotten two of his closest friends back.

Roman looked at the flower shop that set itself across the street from his tattoo parlor. How weird. He was almost sure the building had looked as boring as the other empty buildings in the street when he closed the shop the night before. The front of the small building was not as covered with vines and flowers that surely didn’t grow together as it was now, of that he was certain. The visuals were right up his alley, though, just the right amount of dramatics one needed in their life to make it interesting. A big sign sat on top the glass doors, displaying the name “Berry’s Flowers and Herbs”.
And then, as he was lost in thought admiring and trying to see if he recognized any of the flowers, a man almost as tall as Roman himself, with deep brown hair and brown skin, wearing a simple black polo with jeans and a gardening apron, opened the door and put up a sign saying “OPEN” in dark blue letters, before turning around and inspecting the streets, and then looking directly in Roman’s direction and – holy shit.
Roman was in love.
Before we continue telling the story, let’s lay down some facts about our current favorite boy. First, Roman and Remus’ mother was an elf. Second, elves, besides a long lifespan and a somewhat inflated ego, have better working eyes than most humans. Which is how, even a street away, Roman could notice the beautiful sharp angles of the man’s face, the gorgeous silver shade of his eyes behind his square glasses, and the adorable glittering freckles that covered his face, his neck and his arms.
Roman kept gawking at the glittering man like a fish as he went back inside the shop and closed the glass doors.
“Ooooh, sweet, that’s closer than where I buy.” Remus’s voice sounded suddenly, startling Roman out of his daydreaming.
“Oh, cool.” Roman said automatically, before turning to Remus, who was cleaning his hands with a rag. Roman decided to simply not ask how he had gotten them dirty. “Hey, Rem.”
Remus imeddiately squinted. “What the fuck do you want?”
“What? Can’t a man just call his bro by a nickname to show his brotherly love?”
“You do that by calling me Trash Man, you only call me Rem when you want something, what the fuck is it?”
“Oh I wasn’t going to ask for anything, I was just going to ask if, I dunno, you maybe needed some more ingredients, maybe the ones you have are running out or something, I could maybe go pick it up for you...” Roman trailed off.
Remus just kept squinting at Roman for another 20 seconds, before flicking his eyes to some point behind him. Roman turned, only to see the man from before pushing a table on wheels with flower vases to the front of one of the big glass windows, before going back inside.
Roman could tell he was staring as the man went back inside, and when he looked back at Remus, that shithead smile was glued to his face like a dry face mask.
“Oooh, you got a cruuuuuush?” Remus said in a sing-songy voice, and Roman didn’t even have the energy to pretend to be mad, so he just kept staring at his brother’s face. “You know, now that you mention it, I think I’ve used up all of my marigolds, and I’m close to running out of rosemary...”
Roman immediately perked up. “So maybe, your very selfless and very helpful brother could pick some up for you?”
“Ah, yes, my brother who has no ulterior motives besides being helpful, of course.” Remus said, grabbing one of the sketch books before ripping out a page and writing something down. “Ok, there’s more than just what I said, I need some alyssum and some chrysantemus and some dandelions...”
“Ok, noted.” Roman said, grabbing the paper and scanning the list without actually reading it. He already remebered only the dandelion out of the flowers Remus had mentioned.
As Roman was heading out by the door, Remus screamed “Use protection!”
“I’ll murder you!” Roman screamed back cheerily.
He wasn’t prepared to enter the shop.
As soon as he step foot past the door, he realized the air felt different. It wasn’t exactly pleasant or unpleasant, but it was distinctly different than the air around human populated cities. Roman was almost sure he could hear little bells, and it felt like the air was caressing his skin. The walls were covered in shelves with different plants displays, the floor was a magenta and indigo checkered tile with golden edges that somehow managed to not be obnoxious, and the ceiling was entirely glass with golden metal swirls. The space was well lit, all of the flowers in perfect display.
“Salutations.” Sounded a voice, and Roman immediately looked back to the counter that sat at the back of the store, behind which he could see the glittering man and wow, he was even more beautiful up close.
“Hello there!” Roman said, managing to hide the fact that he felt distinctively out of breath at the sight that laid before him, which he wasn’t completely sure wasn’t a hallucination.
The man’s glittering silver freckles were even more visible from this close, and Roman could also see some that were smaller, less glittery but just as breathtaking, and he also noticed that the man’s hair also glittered slightly.
“...Can I help you?”
“Oh. Oh! Yes, yes, my brother sent me to buy some flowers, and-“ he started before realizing he didn’t actually know what to say after. “...and here is the list. With the flowers.”
He dramatically handed the list over to the man, who simply grabbed it and started Reading. A couple seconds passed before he raised an eyebrow.
“A...Kiss?”
“Whut. Wait.” Roman hastily grabbed the paper and quickly scanned the list, eventually finding the “kiss” item with a heart dotting the i. “Oh, that motherfucker knew I wasn’t going to read it, I swear this is just a prank – “
“Not to worry. Let’s simply ignore this and I’ll grab the flowers.” The man said, and set to do just that, quickly scanning the shelves and putting the flowers in clear plastic rolls.
Roman managed to stay silent for about five seconds.
“So, I don’t remember seeing the shop here yesterday.”
The man seemed to be startled for a bit, before answering “You wouldn’t have, we moved in during the night.”
“Hmm.” Roman hummed before looking for something else to say. “We?”
“...Yes. Me and my parents. My mother and I run the shop.”
“Oh, marvelous, so it’s a Family business! You know, me and my brother run the tattoo parlor across the street, we do tattoos with various magical properties. You should come visit, my name is Roman, I use he/him pronouns, and my brother is Remus, he/him pronouns too.”
“...Logan. He/him today.” He – Logan – said, turning to the dandelions. “Are you always such a conversationalist when buying flowers?”
That made Roman pause.
“Oh, um, I hadn’t – Am I making your uncomfortable?”
“Not to worry, I am simply not used to such...Friendly customers. But this is pleasant.”
Roman sighed relieved.
“I am not opposed to visiting your parlor, if you’ll have me.”
He simply smiled.
“Well hello there!” Roman said, opening the glass doors and spotting Logan behind the counter, like last time.
“Salutations, Roman. They/them today.” Roman nodded, leaning on the counter.
“So, how’s the day going for you, Specs?”
Logan went a few moments without answering, probably because of the nickname. “Pleasant enough. A few customers have come by. None of them was unpleasant.”
“That’s indeed pleasant.” Roman turned around, leaning on the counter with his hips now, looking around at the shop, and noticing the flowers on his left looked more perfect than a lot of flowers he had seen in his life. “Hey, Logan, did you do something to those flowers over there?”
Logan seemed to perk up a bit. They fixed their glasses before answering. “Indeed. Those are flowers I separate for decorations, I enchant them to stay alive for longer. This enchantment can mess with cooking and potions, however, so I always ask before picking them.”
“Oh, that’s cool. I hadn’t thought of that.” They stayed silent then, Roman zoning out as he looked at the flowers and spun his necklace on his finger. “Hey Specs, how old are you?”
“I – Well.” Logan started, before pausing and thinking more. “I’m forty years old, technically, but I’m a fairy, so I haven’t grown beyond being what humans would consider twenty five to twenty nine.”
“Oh, you’re a fairy?”
“Well, quarter fairy. My father is half fairy, my mother is human. They had me when mother was twenty  seven years old, and I grew up in the same speed as a human until I was around twenty four years.”
“Marvelous. I’m half elf. I’m thirty  four years old, and yeah, basically around that age. I would still be a teenager if both of my parents were elves.”
They stayed in silence for a few minutes.
“Roman, do you...Do you like outer space?”
“Well, yeah.” Roman said, before turning back to Logan. “I don’t know a lot, but I think it’s fascinating.”
“Would you...” They swallowed, then, sounding nervous. “Would you like to hear about it?”
“Of course. Tell me everything you know.”
Logan smiled, then, with barely restrained excitement, and Roman felt like he could listen to them for hours if they would always smile like that.
“Hello there, my favorite nerd!” Roman said, entering the shop with his his arms spread and holding a paper bag.
“Salutations, Roman. She/her today. Do you bring anything besides your dramatic entrance?” Logan said, with a small smile that never failed to make Roman lose his train of thought for a few seconds.
“I sure do, Smarty McSpecson, I bring sustenance!” He laid the paper bag on the counter. “It’s a bowl of goose stew with mushrooms, fruit salad with honey, aaaaaaaand pork filled buns.”
“Sounds delicious. I’ll have the buns.”
“Marvelous! I’ll eat some of the stew. I’ve got homemade mayonnaise too, if you’d like to add it.” Then he went to open the bag.
“Wait. Mother will take over the shop for this afternoon, so I’m free in ten minutes. There is a small kitchen in the back, and I think it would be pleasant to eat on a table instead of this counter.”
“Oh, that would be cool.” Roman said, trying to play it cool. It almost felt like she was inviting him on a date, but surely that wouldn’t be it? Logan was just nice like that. She was also very direct and probably would be forward in asking for a date. Yeah.
“Come on, it’s behind this door over here.” Roman then followed Logan into the aforementioned door, finding a small kitchen that seemed to be decorated with a light yellow color scheme. All the counters and cabinets were light yellow, the counters having white tops, the fridge and the stove were both black, and the floor tile was white. The kitchen was pretty small, only wide enough to fit a small round table and two chairs, and there was a floor to ceiling rectangular glass window behind one of the chairs.
“You can sit down while I get mother, I’m sure she won’t be incovenienced to come down ten minutes early.” Logan said while getting some plates and bowls from the cabinets, then laying them on the table.
“Ok. I’ll be here waiting.” Roman said, sitting on the chair facing the window. He may or may not have been thinking about how gorgeous Logan would look framed by the window and the plants outside.
Logan stepped into a door that led to a white staircase, leaving Roman to think and analyze the small kitchen.
Now that he had the opportunity to pay attention, he could notice little things he hadn’t noticed when he first entered the kitchen : the white countertops were stained at some spots with some sort of colorful pigment, there was a black paper on which someone drew constellations with white crayon, and there was a clear glass cookie jar filled with dried flowers on one counter.
About five minutes later, Logan came back with who Roman assumed was her mother, a chubby, dark skinned lady with short black hair wearing a beige argyle sweater over a white button up and beige skirt, plus a pair of red glasses and bright red lipstick. He noticed Logan seemed distinctly more glittery around the face.
“Oh hello there dear, you must be the famed Roman!” The lady said, rushing over to him and grabbing his hands. “I’m Dot, this one’s mom, I’ve heard so many things about you – “
“Mother...” Logan said with a warning tone, her voice not managing to hide her embarassment.
“Oh Logan talked about you so much, you’re every bit as handsome as she described – “
“Mother!” Logan exclaimed, and now her face was shining so much it looked like it was encrusted with tiny gems. Roman was almost hipnotized enough to not realize that was probably her way of blushing.
“What? It’s true! He’s as handsome as sherpherd pie!” Dot responded, and Roman was as confused as he was flattered.
“Mother, that’s not – forty seven years of marriage, and that’s what you pick up of father’s vocabulary?” Logan said, bafflement not being able to hid the awfully fond tone of her voice.
“Oh don’t pick on me, you know I’m telling the truth.” Dot said, before looking at the shop. “Oh dear, I better get started on that shop running thing.” She said, before kissing Roman and Logan’s cheeks and stepping out into the shop, closing the kitchen door.
They stayed silent froma few moments before Logan sighed.
“I love my mother, but she can be a bit overwhelming. I hope she didn’t bother you too much.”
“Oh, she didn’t bother me at all. So, um, as handsome as shepherd pie?” Roman asked, still a bit baffled by the term.
“It’s an expression father uses. It’s an equivalent translation coming from the faery language my father’s specific nation spoke. It’s a bit outdated, but it was used most often to describe someone the person was attracted to. Of course,” Logan said all of this while grabbing the cuttlery and sitting down on the other chair. She paused while adjusting herself on the chair, before continuing with a fondly amused smile. “she wasn’t hitting on you, don’t worry.” Logan went to grab the pork buns, while murmuring to herself low enough that, if Roman wasn’t part elf, he surely wouldn’t have been able to hear it. “Not for herself, at least.”
“Not for herself?” Roman asked. Logan’s eyes went wide as saucers, and she almost dropped the bun she was holding.
“Oh you – you heard that?” Logan asked, adjusting her glasses (which Roman had noticed was a bit of a tic of hers). Her face, that had gone back to the normal amount of glittering, suddenly was shiny enough that Roman wanted to grab her face and kiss her senseless.
“If it’s any comfort, I only heard because elven hearing is a stronger than humans’. But seriously, what did you mean?”
“Oh, it’s nothing important, it’s silly, it’s just – mother is certain you have been flirting with me, you see, and no matter how much I tell her she’s being foolish, she won’t quit putting these thoughts into my head, and I swear it wasn’t on purpose, I didn’t even felt like these before but then she mentioned it and I couldn’t stop thinking about how handsome you are and how nice you are and how you made an effort to befriend me when we had just moved in and I didn’t know anyone and I didn’t have any energy to go out and make friends – “ she was rambling now, her speech getting more fast paced and anxious the longer Roman went without saying anything.
Well. She seemed to think Roman wasn’t interested. He had to do something about that.
Logan was gesturing wildly with her hands, moving them up and down in an effort to calm herself, so Roman grabbed one of them in an effort to effectively distract her.
“So,” he said, laying their hands down palms up on the table and drawing tiny circles on the wrist. “I most definitely was flirting. I most definitely think you are very handsome and very nice. And I most definitely think you are as handsome as shepherd pie.”
Logan was silent for a few moments before saying, with a slight breathless note on her voice, “...oh.”
“Yeah.” Roman said, before bringing Logan’s hand up his mouth and kissing the palm.
Logan giggled. She honest to ghosts, real as magic, giggled.
“So,” Roman said, putting their hands back on the table. “do you want to try this?”
“I – most definitely.” She answered, nodding quickly with a smile on her face.
They started eating, then, and nothing changed but the hands they held and the soft smiles.

Mini Fanfic #838: Meeting the Sisters (King of Fighters)
6:45 p.m. Outside of the Yabuki's Residence.......
K': (Looks Up at the House Along With Rock and Kula) This is the place?
Shingo: (Happily Nodded) Yep! My home sweet home. Might not be the best looking house in the world, but I still love it..
Rock: (Smiles Softly at the House) I dunno about that, Shingo. From all the houses we've seen so far, yours looks pretty good.
Kula: Ooh! (Turns to Shingo With an Excited Look on her Face) Is there gonna be ice cream in there?~
Shingo: (Happily Nodded) You bet. My sister picked up some groceries yesterday. So there's plenty of it to come around.
Kula: (Happily Cheers) Yay!~
Rock: (Eyes Widened a Bit) Wait. You have a sister?
Shingo: Yep. I have two of them actually. The oldest and the youngest. (Takes Out his Home Key From his Pocket) They can be handful sometimes, but trust me, they are just as amazing as you guys are right now.
Kula: (Touched by Shingo's Words) Aww~
Rock: (Chuckles Lightly) Well, if that's the case, I can't wait to meet them all ready.
K': (Starts Smirking at Shingo) I bet that they're as hyperactive as you are, Yabuki.
Shingo: (Smiles Sheepishly at the Gang) I.... wouldn't exactly say that both of them are that way. (Starts Using the Key to Unlock the Door) I mean, my little sister can be energetic at times, but big sis has always been the mature one in the family. She even takes of us whenever mom and dad aren't home.
Rock: Neat.
'Door Open'
Shingo: Guuuuys! I'm back home with gue-
?????: ONEE-CHAN!!!
Without warning, a girl with pigtails, hug tackles Shingo into the ground.
'THUD'
?????: (Smiles Brightly at Shingo) Welcome home, big bro!~
Shingo: (Sighs While Smiling a Bit Sheepishly) Nice to see you too, Naomi......
?????: Honestly, Naomi.....
The gang turns to see an older woman with glasses making her way towards her siblings while having her arms crossed.
?????: How many times do I have to tell you not to hug tackle our brother every time he comes home?
Naomi: ('UGGGH') Relax, Tsubaki! You gotta stop worrying about us all the time. We're fiiine!
Tsubaki: (Gives Naomi an Older Sisterly Glare) Well, maybe if you two quit being reckless, I wouldn't HAVE to get worried all the time! You're my younger siblings, and-
Naomi: (Starts Rolling her Eyes) We know....."Keeping us safe and healthy will always be your #1 properties above everything else" I'm sure we got the memo of that for as long as we can remember.
Tsubaki: (Stares Down at her Younger Sister For a Brief Second Before Sighing) Glad we're on the same page I suppose.... In the meantime.......(Smiles a little at Shingo) Welcome back home, little brother. (Turns to the Trio Standing Right Next to Him and Naomi) Are these the guests you told me about earlier?
Shingo: (Finally Gets Himself Back Up) Yep. These three are my buds: Rock, K', and Kula.
Kula: (Happily Waves at the Sisters) Hello!~
Rock: Hey.
K': 'Sup.
Shingo: (Starts Introducing his Friends to his Sisters) Guys, I like to introduce you to my sisters: Naomi and Tsubaki Yabuki.
Naomi: (Happily Waves Back) Hi!~
Tsubaki: (Bows at the Trio In a Polite Fashion) Please to finally meet you. Shingo told us quite a lot about you three as of late.
Rock: Cool. (Starts Smiling a Bit Sheepishly) He....... just told us about you guys a few minutes ago.
Naomi: (Immediately Pouts at Shingo) Shingo! You seriously haven't told them about us untill now? How could you!?
Shingo: (Immediately Put his Hands Up in Defense) I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to keep you two in the dark like that! I was gonna tell you about them sooner, but...It just never really crossed my mind beforehand, you know?
Tsubaki: ('Sigh') It can't be helped......At the very least, we have the chance to get to know more about one another. So we might as well savior every moment of it.
Rock: (Shrugs) Couldn't say it any better myself really. You two seem like good enough people to get to know more about.
Tsubaki: (Smiles Softly While Nodding in Agreement) Likewise.
Shingo: (Happily Nodded as Well) Okay! While you guys go ahead and do that, I'm gonna hit the showers right fast.
Rock: (Raised an Eyebrow in a Bit of Confusion) Already? We just got here.
Shingo: (Starts Stretching his Arms) Yeah, but I always do this whenever come back home in this kind of hour. It's kinda been my daily routine at this point, you know? (Rushes Himself Towards the Bathroom) BRB!
Tsubaki: Try not to take too long in there!
Shingo: (Already From a Distance) 'Kay! (Closes the Bathroom Door)
K': That kid is too optimistic for his own good.
Tsubaki: Yes, but that is one of the multiple reasons why we love him so. (Smiles Softly) I've always admired that mindset of his.
Few Minutes Later in the Kitchen......
Kula and Naomi starts eating their own bowl of ice cream while the others are having a conversation with one another.
Tsubaki: So you're saying that the two of met in the city?
Rock: Yep. Shingo was looking for the café at the time, so I helped find it for him. After that, we started hanging out a lot more ever since.
K': I met the kid we were in the 5th KOF tournament together. He's annoying, but....I still tolerate him.
Kula: (Smiles Brightly) I've met him in the 6th KOF tournament! He was really funny!~
K': Don't talk with your mouth full, Kula.....
Kula: 'Kay! (Continues Eating her Ice Cream)
Tsubaki: Ah. I see....(Starts Frown a Bit) The....King of Fighters Tournament.....
Rock: Is.... everything okay, Tsubaki?
Tsubaki: (Comes Back to Reality) Oh! Um... Yes. I'm fine. It's just that-
Naomi: Tsubaki been worried about Shingo joining the tournament since day one.
Tsubaki: (Immediately Glares at her Little Sister) I was going to tell them that thank you! And what did I say about talking with your mouth full!!?
Naomi: Okay. Okay. Fine. I'll keep eating. Sheesh..... (Continues Eating her Ice Cream)
Tsubaki: (Groans While Pinching her Nose) As I was trying to say, yes. (Starts Frowning Again) I am worried about Shingo participating in these types of tournaments. He keeps getting himself hurt in each one of them he joins. It even got to the point where he starts developing multiple scars on his arms, shoulders, back! ('Sigh Heavily') I'm really glad he has enjoyment in this kind of stuff......I just..... Don't want anything terrible to keep happening to him.....or worse....
Rock: (Takes a Couple Seconds to Think About Speaking Again) Tsubaki. I understand where you're coming from in all of this. Seeing someone close to you getting hurt can never be an easy feeling and I'm sorry you and your family had to go through all of that.....But I assure you that you have nothing to worry about here. Because the way I see it....(Smiles Softly) I think Shingo's the strongest person I know.
Tsubaki: (Eyes Widened in Genuine Surprise) "Strongest"?
K': (Simply Nodded) Howard's right. He might not have fire or any other crazy power in his disposal, but he can hold his own in a fight fairly well.
Kula: Yeah. I saw kick a robot's butt once.
Naomi: ('GASPS') He did!!?
Kula: (Happily Nodded) Mmhmm. It was a long time ago, but it was soooo cool!
Naomi: (Couldn't Believe What She's Hearing) Oh my gosh.....(Turns to Tsubaki With a Bright Smile on her Face) You hear that, sis? I TOLD you our bro is the coolest!~
Tsubaki: (Rolls her Eyes A Little) I never said he wasn't, Naomi....But still...(Turns Back to Rock) You really think he has what it takes out there.
Rock: (Simply Nodded) Definitely. The guy has a lot more heart on this than the three us here combined. You just need to have more faith in him, you know?
Shingo: (Walks into the Kitchen) I'm back! Did I missed anything while I was g-
Tsubaki: Shingo.
Shingo: (Immediately Turns to Tsubaki) Oh! Uh...Yeah, sis? What's wrong?
Tsubaki: (Takes a Deep Breath Before Speaking) These tournaments you've participated in....and all the training you've endured....have you been taking them seriously like you should?
Shingo: (Rapidly Nodded) O-Of course I have! I've always been giving it my all every time step into the ring. I mean, yeah, it was a really tough experience and all, but I still managed to pull through every once in a while.
Tsubaki: That is true....Even when you keep getting these injuries, you never insisted on giving up.
Shingo: Exactly! (Raised his Fist Up in the Air in a Determined like Fashion) Even in a impossible scenario, I never give up. That's the Shingo Yabuki way!!
Naomi/Kula: (Cheers in Rejoice) YEAHHHH!!!
Rock: (Chuckles Lightly) That's right.
K': ('Heh')
Tsubaki: ('Sighs Heavily') I figured you would say something like that......
Shingo: (Chuckles Lightly) Yeah. But.... seriously though, I'm really sorry for making you worry all this time, sis.
Tsubaki: (Smiles Softly) Don't be, Shingo. I'm your older sister. I'm always going to worry about you and little gremlin.
Naomi: (Pouts at Tsubaki) HEY! I am NOT a little gremlin!!
Tsubaki: (Starts Rolling her Eyes) You don't say? Could've fooled me really.
Naomi: (Starts Sticking her Tongue Out at her Older Sister While Kula Giggles at the Whole Thing)
Tsubaki: ('Sigh') Back on topic, and regardless of my worrisome nature, if you're really serious about all of this, then I won't stop you. I only ask is that you promise me to be more cautious in the future and that you won't take your training too seriously.
Shingo: (Happily Nodded in Agreement) I promise to do all of that x2! (Pulls Tsubaki into a Loving Hug) Thanks, big sis.
Tsubaki: (Smiles Softly While Hugging Her Little Brother Back) There's no need for you to thank me, little brother. No matter what happens, I'll always love and support you.
Naomi: (Happily Joins into the Hug Along With Kula and Rock) Us too!~
Shingo: (Sees K' Giving Him a Nod in Agreement While his Hearts Begins to Melt in Pure Happiness) Guys....I love all of you too. So much.
