back with more house autism moments lets go

- when he has meltdowns or gets overstimulated he locks himself in his office with all the lights off and just throws his ball against the wall over and over again. the only person who knows and can tell when he's hurtling over the edge is wilson, and sometimes wilson lets him curl up on his couch with one of wilson's jackets over his head and wilson just quietly does work on his computer so house can listen to him breathing

- house has so so many stim toys because he actively destroys them by accident. he prefers stuff he can spin or manipulate the pieces of (and obvs his ball) but he has to keep such a surplus because he will fucking ruin them or lose them in a moment of stress

- he also uses his gameboy to stim, he's played all of his games so many times he barely has to think about it and having his hands moving keeps his mind straight

- when house is overstimulated or having a meltdown he is dead silent. he was trained into being "normal" by all the ppl in his early life so he just shuts down entirely except for scratching himself or digging his nails into his skin. it took wilson time to recognize this as him melting down but now wilson can recognize the look in his eyes nearly instantly

- house learned asl and forces wilson to learn some too so they can a) talk across the balcony and b) communicate when he's non verbal. he often uses asl to cause fucking PROBLEMS for wilson

- @greghatecrimes posted a bunch of good autistic thirteen stuff and i'm shamelessly piggybacking off of them to say that thirteen learns asl too and then they shit talk the other fellows in front of them. the main purpose was for talking when one of them was nonverbal but then

- house alternates between no eye contact and aggressively too much eye contact. it depends on how he feels but he is unashamed of either. he will kubrick stare you to death

- house uses elaborate metaphors that make sense to no one because idioms and metaphors ALREADY dont make sense to him so why not make up his own

- house's office is meticulously arranged and he can tell if something is different the Minute he comes in. he can also tell with wilson's office

- the reason house doesnt go to department head meetings is because he gets very understimulated and starts acting up! he hates sitting and having to listen and not being able to do any of his stims and he decided its just not worth it

- house is very hypersensitive to smells. hospital smells dont bother him because theyre Familiar but if someone wears too strong cologne or if he's near a candle its all he can think abt

James Potter is a cat person

James is in constant motion. While Regulus loves to watch him buzz like a happy bumblebee from person to person and activity to activity, he recognises that there is an undercurrent of anxiety in that constant motion. A desire to please the people around him overrules James’s needs for comfort and peace.

Which is why Regulus switches to his animagus cat form so often around James. The moment James sees him, he rushes over to pick him up and settles on a sofa to pet him. James thinks Regulus is overwhelmed, and sometimes that’s true too, so he immediately creates a calming space where both of them can find quiet contentment.

James has the excuse of the cat in his lap to tell others “no” without feeling like he’s letting them down and Regulus glares daggers at anyone who tries to guilt James for taking a moment for himself. The cat’s purring and warm weight in James’s lap calms his hyperactive mind and body while stroking the soft fur soothes his need for physical contact.

Okay uhm - I need to say this because I am noticing this a bit in the responses to Somerton's "Apology" video. Do people really think, just because ableism in the workplace is forbidden, that workplaces don't discriminate?

Even if insurance stuff covers your health issues, I won't put it past an employer to let you go with the made up argument it doesn't. Because non-epileptic people are generally very uncomfortable with seeing seizure activity and some of them will prioritize their comfort over sticking to anti-discrimination laws.

I think Somerton's video is full of BS, but I am even more uncomfortable with how happy people are to dismiss Somerton's medical history/symptoms, just so they can argue against him. As if people with disabilities can be absolved for being dicks by accepting their stated medical and discrimination history.

When you don't even have to do so to point out the harm Somerton's logic does?

I mean - I think it's warranted to question James' statements because of his complicated relationship with telling the truth, but I am just kind of bothered by how people argue "this could not have happened because laws/policies" No. Let it have happened. It makes his apology worse if you choose to believe him on this, trust me.

If our response to disabled people acting terrible (stealing other people's material and presenting it as your own), is to accuse said disabled people of lying about their symptoms and diagnosis, I think we are missing the point and problem.

James Somerton opening his "apology" with reference to his hospitalisation has made my blood absolutely boil. I am so unbelievably gobsmacked at the audacity of that. Even if it's true - ESPECIALLY if it's true - you just cannot in good conscience do something like that.

It's triggering to those of us who have dealt with those feelings, triggering to those of us who have had loved ones attempt or succeed in the past, AND it feels manipulative to anybody with eyes and two working braincells. It deeply devalues the trauma of something like that to reduce it to some kind of deflection for any hate he will get on the video. My first thought in the opening of the video was "god I hope Harry doesn't take this to heart and blame himself" because as somebody who has been on the other side of somebody threatening to hurt themselves, it it deeply traumatising and heartbreaking to see it (intentionally or not) weaponised on such a large scale to such a huge audience. I thought I couldn't feel more betrayed and upset by James but I was wrong.

Not to mention he fobs his acephobia, biphobia, lesbophobia and misogyny off on the nebulous concept that nick writes most of it and that "should have been more exacting" when going over the videos. So either he's claiming his cowriter DOES hold those views, OR that it simply never occurred to him that those views were offensive. Either way, you're in the wrong on complacency alone. You're either ignorant to your best friend's views or you've never taken stock of your own.

Also James never once using the word "plagiarise" in a 35 minute video supposedly apologising for said plagiarism is insane. He talks about "crediting people better" which is BONKERS when he was exposed for deliberately obscuring the stolen work by editing parts of it. That wasn't an accident, you didn't trip and fall and accidentally base entire videos around other people's work, you wilfully and maliciously took that work and passed it off as your own words and opinions.

I was a fan of James before all of this. That makes it all hurt more.
