Severus pulled the ragged sheets over his head. Once a nice pastel white, it was now stained yellow from years of use. Shame filled him as he watched the other kids walking in their new shiny costumes, either handmade or store-bought. Even the bag he was using to carry the candies had a hole in it.

"Hey," said Harry, voice muffled by the fake vampire fangs. His hair was even more of a mess with the fake cobwebs. He held out a plastic pumpkin. "We can share."

"Why do you have cobwebs in your hair?" asked Severus, curious at the choice.

"I'm a vampire who just woke up from a long nap!" Harry bent down with his arms out. His black cape billowed.

"A vampire with cobwebs?"

"A distinguished vampire with cobwebs." 'Distinguish' was their class's word of the week.

Severus glanced down at his tattered bag and ragged sheets. The other kids stayed away from him, but Harry didn't. Severus didn't understand the new kid. Harry was an enigma. 'Enigma' has never been the word of the week. Severus learned the word by himself.

"I'm new," said Harry. He straightened up before grabbing hold of Severus's hand. "You know all the best houses that give out the best candies. We can make a killing!"

Severus's cheeks flushed at the contact. Harry's hand was warm and soft. It was nice to be touched.

Decision made, Severus tightened his grip. "Minerva gives out candy apples. Albus has sherbet lemons."

The night was young. The stars were not out yet. If they start now, they could switch costumes and hit the same houses again. Not that Severus would tell Harry yet, but he could tell it wouldn't take much to convince Harry to bend the rules.

Harry's smile was bright. "Let's go!"

Fic for the December prompts for the House of Snarry @houseofsnarry December Prompts. It’s the Slug Club Christmas Party, the first one after the war. Headmaster Snape observes, and Harry wants. And he wants a lot, maybe more than Snape can give him. Or is it?

When he was out, Harry looked up, a wide smile plastered on his face.

It was snowing.

He closed his eyes and laughed as the snow fell on him, wetting his face. When he looked to his right, Snape was watching him.

His previously empty and vacant eyes weren’t there anymore.

Now he was looking at him with rapture eyes, his gaze fixed on him, a sudden fire glowing in them. His lips were twitched upwards, a ghost of a smile on his face, and his black raven hair was beginning to turn white with the snowflakes falling onto it.

Harry looked at him with a wide grin.

“It’s snowing.”

“Brilliant observation, as usual,” Snape said with a smirk of his own.

Harry said nothing, instead deciding to start walking through the wet pavement, Snape falling easily next to him in step.

But he wanted to do something to thank Snape for being here with him.

Slowly, ready to move back if Snape reacted badly, he looped one of his arms gently around Snape’s. The Headmaster stopped walking, looking at their looped arms with his eyebrows pulled up and together in slight alarm. But then Harry’s fingers rubbed his arm over his coat, and Snape seemed to immediately relax under his touch.

“Thank you, sir” Harry whispered as he leaned closer to him, “thanks for coming with me tonight.”

Snape merely kept walking, though his strides were shorter and slower, his entire body seemed to melt under his touch. Gaining confidence, Harry grabbed his arm a bit tighter, resting his face against his shoulder.

He was expecting a rebuff, but none came.

Instead, he felt Snape’s arm pulling him in, as he felt his face leaning closer to him.

Harry stopped his steps, closing his eyes as he felt Snape’s lean arm, his own heart beating madly in his chest. When he looked up he saw Snape’s face inches away from him. He saw Snape’s lips twitching in a ghost of a smile.

He never knew who leaned first, but the moment their lips touched, nervous and hesitant, it felt like an explosion in his chest. Something tingled down his spine as he felt Snape’s lips pressing against his, it still had tinges of the mulled wine. Nectar from the gods itself, that was.

His body was shaking like a leaf and he gripped Snape’s arm tighter, he distantly felt his arm around his back, pulling him in as Snape deepened the kiss. His throat let out a low moan that Snape captured, hungry for him, his kiss becoming stronger.

Harry could only feel the taste of his lips, the warmth of his body, the strength of his pull. The snow kept falling on them, but they didn’t feel cold, so wrapped up in their own bubble of warmth.

When they came out to breathe, Harry felt like he’d been born anew.

Snape’s cheeks were flushed, his eyes completely black, a hunger Harry was desperate to sate.

A shadow fell over the parchments, and a voice said, "Trick or treat."

Minerva tapped her quill against the Sixth year's essays, annoyed. "Severus, you are not a child," started Minerva, "and…" She glanced up. "The pumpkin is blue."

Severus Snape was indeed holding a blue pumpkin, but not any blue pumpkin. This one made gurgling noises and clapped his hands.

"Yes," confirmed Severus. A small black bag floated in front of Minerva. "Trick or treat."

Harry was standing beside them, trying not to laugh.

"Pumpkins are orange."

"Teddy likes the colour blue," said Severus. "Do you have anything against a child who wants to be a blue pumpkin?"

"The child is one."

"The child knows what he wants, and he wants some sweets."

"He can't even eat sweets."

"Oh, what a story the Daily Prophet will get today. Minerva McGonagall, hater of babies."

As if on cue, the blue pumpkin started crying. Harry's laughter echoed in the staff room.

Minerva, knowing from experience what this holiday brings, reached into her stash of sweets for occasions like this.

Severus, satisfied with his loot, kissed baby Teddy on the forehead, who immediately quieted. He then went on to bug Poppy. The bag, half-filled with candy, floated beside them.

"Will this be occurring every year?" asked Minerva.

"I'm hoping," said Harry, smiling, as he followed them.

4 Friday Recs !

New fics I read this week!

1. Wicked Hearts and Calculating Minds by @lumosatnight.

Genderbending fic with Albus Dumbledore/Tom Riddle. This is a serial killers AU. I really liked the concepts and the execution. Genderbending AUs aren’t really my thing. But this fic totally sold it. Lots of confidence in the writing and the plot. Really convincing and super fun to read. 10/10 Recommend. From The Untagged Fest 2022.

“Certainly,” Alana agreed, sweeping a hand to the side. “By all means, please lead the way.”

Looking into the swirling red, Alana felt the first pricklings of interest flutter in her chest.

2. I’ll take a quiet life by Anonymous

Snarry. From the Kill your darlings HP Main Character Death fest. 5000 words. I rec this because I really liked the unreliable narrator in the fic. Because of the fest’s concept definitely read the warnings. But this fic doesn’t really have an angsty ending. It’s definitely ending on a hopeful/softer note. So if you are normally an automatic swipe left on MCD fics definitely still recommend you check this one out. It’s a pretty unique execution!

The dinner guests are gone and Severus is washing the dishes. He looks down and frowns to see his hands covered in soap and water. Since when does he wash the dishes the muggle way?

3. A Healthy Fantasy Life by pauraque

Star Trek TNG! Deanna Troi/The Goddess of Empathy. Absolutely brilliant and hot femslash fic. It looks at a lot of classic scifi type ethics questions about what exactly you shouldn’t do with AI. Also is nonstop hot.

4. Soon the vine to elm by eldritcher

House of the Dragon!!

Caraxes the dragon has a lot to say. Who wants to read a dragon POV??? We are already so done with How to train your dragon and Eragon vibes! Actually this is nothing close.

Caraxes is a traumatized dragon whose rider died while the dragon got distracted eating goats. Cue major PTSD and not wanting to deal with another rider. Except he gets a rider. A rider who is totally into danger 24/7. This is a beautiful story about their bond and how they start trusting/helping/FIXING each other. Also angst. Lots of angst and healing. How this one packs everything into 3000 words is a mystery.
