Can we please, please talk about this line for a million years. You don’t focus on it as much as the other parts of her speech because it gets cut off, but the wholeness of it is still so clear: ‘I was never scared because my dad always made me feel safe’

And !!! man that’s such a heartbreaking but significant insight into El’s POV of Hopper and of their time together at the cabin. Because it’s implying (if not directly communicating) that despite and within how intense and sometimes combative it was between Hopper and El during those months at the cabin, she always felt safe there, and more so, she felt safe there because of Hopper. Which makes Hopper’s ‘they didn’t need me, I needed them’ speech all the more heartbreaking too because El did need Hopper. She needs her dad and loves her dad and he represented so many important and meaningful things for her but a primary thing was safety and his death means El now has to figure out how to operate in a world where she no longer has this unique feeling of safeness that her dad gave her.

I love character reunions after a separation, whether it's by a presumed death fake out, having been split up for whatever reason, or because of a conflict. The split itself sucks, is sometimes frustratingly stupid, but feeds the part of my brain that wants everyone to suffer. What it eventually leads to makes it great. Doesn't matter if it takes a few years, an entire season, or just a couple episodes (or 20000 words). Doesn't matter if they've already separated and reunited thousands of times before. The anticipation, the swirling music, the moment they see each other, the emotion, the hugs and the head cupping. Serve me that sentimental garbage, I'll eat my tears every time

Hopper accidentally becomes the biggest ally in Hawkins out of hatred for Mike Wheeler. El wants to date Max? Perfect, Mike is terrified of Max. El wants to date Max and Lucas? Even better, more people to keep Mike away. Will comes out to Joyce and Hop? Hopper is immediately studying up on gay culture and flagging so he can find him a Hop ApprovedTM boyfriend. He sees that nice boy Gareth cuff his jeans one time and starts inviting him to family dinner. Mike seems annoyed that Steve is spending more time with Munson? A pamphlet titled “Accepting your Bisexuality” finds its way into Steve’s jacket pocket. Hopper has never seen Mike as furious as the day Steve and Munson arrive at dinner holding hands. It’s a good day. Hopper isn’t sure how Nancy dating the Buckley girl will annoy Mike, but he’s willing to give it a shot.

No Upside Down steddie AU where Steve gradually meets the members of Hellfire (-Eddie) in and out of school and they all come to befriending him really fast because “Steve Harrington is actually a good dude”

But Eddie fucking hates it.

And this only spurs Hellfire on because they think him getting mad over Steve Harrington is fucking hilarious.

Jeff who takes a foods class in third period and Steve does to and then the teacher pairs them for a baking project and Jeff gets to go to Casa Harrington. And he realizes rather quickly that Steve really likes baking and cooking and actually knows what he’s doing and that he’s not just taking the class for an easy A.

Brian (I’ve named him Brian, yes), meets Steve in Art class. Like Jeff, he thought Steve was taking it for an easy A but when seats are changed and they sit together he realizes that, no, Steve’s actually kind of good at drawing (particularly scenery). They get to talking about one of Steve’s sketches and the rest is history.

Gareth doesn’t officially meet Steve until later, but he does see him out with the kids at the arcade. Gareth works at the arcade and there’s this particular group of kids that just irks him— turns out they’re Steve’s gaggle. He watches in begrudging amusement while Steve rounds them up like a pro.

Then Gareth officially meets him after Hellfire one day. It’s fucking windy and he’s just leaving to school to go home when the papers and sheets he was holding are fucking torn from his hands. Steve grabs the papers— there after some kind of sports practice— and makes sure Gareth has them secured in his bad before leaving with a dorky finger-waggle wave.

And Eddie just downright refuses.

And then the school year ends and Steve graduates. And he’s convinced he doesn’t have to see Steve again.

Until, of course, Mike Dustin and Lucas join.

Jeff, Gareth, and Brian are all ecstatic to share their own run-ins of Steve Harrington to the three boys who so clearly idolize him. Gareth happily recalls how Steve “tamed” them in the arcade every time he came in.

Eddie sits in brooding silence.

And then Lucas joins the basketball team. And sure— Jeff’s on the volleyball team— but basketball jocks are so much worse than volleyball jocks.

Mike and Dustin, however thrown out of orbit they were at first, seem to settle in eventually and learn to plan around it. They think that anything that makes Lucas happy is a good thing (even if it did take a bit of a talk with Will for them to realize).

But Eddie? Eddie can’t stand it.

Which is why he refuses to move the date for the final campaign.

But Eddie doesn’t even get to introduce Vecna before Steve Harrington himself is all but breaking down the fucking door.

Eddie has this whole argument in his head that quickly dwindles when he sees the pure anger in Steve’s eyes (and also because Steve is really fucking pretty holy shit).

Steve tells Dustin Mike and Erica to pack up and get to the game before he drags them and you know what?

They listen.

Including hard ass Erica Sinclair.

And then idk Steve and Eddie get into a whole fight about.

But Steve makes it very clear that he doesn’t appreciate Eddie making Lucas feel like he can’t be happy doing DnD and basketball because that poor boy deserves nice things dammit.

And Eddie sleeps on it over the weekend before hunting Lucas down first thing Monday morning to apologize.

Lucas forgive Eddie (against Eddie’s protest because let the man grovel) but makes Eddie also apologize to Steve.

Which Eddie does by showing up to the Harrington Estate.

Eddie apologizes and they get high together and the rest is history.

El never openly talks about her grief for Hopper and we never hear her say that she misses Hopper but I see it in the way she doesn’t destroy or throw away the diorama after she was ridiculed and mocked for it. I see it in the way she clings to that box while being laughed at in class. I see it in the way she brings that box home, despite the pain and shame it caused, and in the way she methodically goes to work, glueing it back together. I see and feel her grief for him, for her dad, in all of these actions, in the way she clings to that box and in the way she fixes that broken box because she cannot cling to Hopper and she cannot fix his death. Grief can and should be loud, and it can feel very violent, and should be something people are open about but it can also be very quiet and infused within the actions people take when words are too hard and I like that the show allows El’s grief to be a mixture of both.

“The demon is back.” Eddie pokes into Steve’s side to wake him up.

“Babe, please go back to sleep.” Steve shoves his face into the pillow, making his voice muffled.

“Steeeeve.” Eddie whines, “It’s really there I swear this time. And I locked the door so I know it’s the demon again. Nothing else can get inside.”

“Eddie.” Steve squishes his face even deeper into the mattress. “You do this at least once a week. I love you; I do. But I never look because there is no demon. And every morning, you wake up fine. So please, go back to sleep.”

“What if I promise never to mention it again if it’s not really there? Will you look then?” This time Eddie’s voice wavers, his actual terror showing.

Steve sighs and shifts his head to look at Eddie, “This is really freaking you out, huh?” He says it kindly. Steve can tell this is serious to Eddie. So even if he doesn’t believe it, Eddie does. And what’s important to Eddie is important to Steve.

Eddie nods back furiously.

“Okay, I’ll look.” Steve shifts his head towards the other side, where the chair by the window sits. There, sitting in that corner is a dark shadowy figure. “Oh.”

“See! I told you! Demon! Oh god, it’s gonna get us.” Eddie throws his hands up. Even though he’s terrified, he’s accepted defeat.

“No.” Steve says calmly. “It’s just El.”

Eddie pauses his rant, “What?”

“It’s just El. In the corner. She does that sometimes, watches people she cares about until she falls asleep. To make sure they’re safe.” Steve looks at Eddie.

“The door was locked! How are you so calm about one of the kids just watching us at night?”

“Honey, she has mind powers. I don’t think a flimsy lock from Home Depot is going to stop her.” Steve deadpans before shrugging, “And it’s El. She could ask me to kill a man, and I probably wouldn’t even ask questions.”

“What if she asked you to kill me?”

“I’d be conflicted.”

“I want to be mad, but honestly I think I’d hand you the knife.” Eddie sighs, looking down at Steve.

Steve scoffs, “Don’t be ridiculous. I wouldn’t stab you. I’d obviously sneak some kind of poison into your honeycombs. Way less messy.”

Eddie goes back to nearly shouting, “Why have you thought about this?!”

“Honestly, I have a lot of intrusive thoughts. I just don’t speak them out loud.”

Despite the fact they are actively talking about his murder, Eddie can’t help but get all gooey with Steve in their bed. “Is this why you don’t get mad when I think aloud? Another reason why you just get me. Adding that tally to the ‘why we are great together’ column.”

“Yes, we’re pretty amazing. Can we go back to sleep now?” Steve smiles.

“Yes—wait, no.” Eddie corrects himself, getting himself back on track. He loves this man, but he is a sneaky little minx. “Why did El never say anything? I mean, this is not the first time I accused her of being a demon. Hell, we’ve been talking for literally five minutes, and she still hasn’t said anything. Also, what if she walked in on us doing, ya know, adult stuff?” Eddie blushes at the end. He’s acting like he hasn’t been whispering way worse things in Steve’s ear every night.

“First off, she won’t walk in on that. Apparently Max taught her about happy screams a long time ago.”

“Gross.”

“Yeaaa. Second, I’m pretty sure she’s asleep right now.”

Huh, now that Eddie thinks about it, he does hear soft little snores. Which is weird since neither he nor Steve snores, and they are both, ya know, awake.

“And I don’t think El speaking in a dark corner would have helped your fears. Like imagine just hear her soft “Hello” at 2 a.m.” Steve raises an eyebrow.

“I—okay I got nothing.”

“Fantastic can we go back to sleep now?”

Eddie gives one last shout, “You’re not going to stop her?”

“Are you going to tell her no? And make her worry?”

Eddie slinks down into the covers, “...no.”

“That’s what I thought.”

Eddie curves his body into Steve’s, seeking him out. Steve wraps his arms around Eddie, securing him to his chest. “Thank you for indulging me.”

Steve hums. “Anything for you baby. I love you.”

“I love you too.” Eddie kisses Steve lightly.

“I love you both as well.” El’s voice suddenly speaks into the silent room.

“Jesus Christ!” Eddie screams.

Steve can’t help the giggles that come out of him. He tries to smother them into Eddie’s shoulder.

Eddie can’t find it in himself to be mad.

Eddie would LOVE the idea that he and El look alike. A prank idea ensues. He had to get her a wig because her hair hadn't grown back yet, but she agreed to the prank and put on Eddie's clothes, wearing his rings and sitting on his throne. Everyone filtered in for DnD that night while Eddie hid behind the chair. Eddie soon started talking, El's hand folded against her lips so it would like she was the one talking. No one noticed until Steve walked in to watch his boyfriend play.

"Hey, El," Steve said casually. "What are you doing on Eddie's throne?"

Everyone's head snapped to her, and they realized then that it was actually El. Eddie shrieked and jumped out from behind the throne.

"Steve! I was doing something! Gah!" Eddie yelled and proceeded to stomp his feet. "I was going to see how long it would take them to notice!"

"You were going to do the entire thing like that?" He asked.

"Yes!"

"Maybe you should have told me!"

Then they proceeded to fight in front of everyone, letting everyone know that they were, in fact, dating. Meanwhile, El was giggling on the throne and moving her arms around like Eddie.

I don’t read spoilers, so no issues here 😌

Also I may be active in the Mileven fandom for shits and giggles and because I love these people, but the reason I started and continue to watch stranger things hasn’t ever been solely for Mileven. I didn’t even start hardcore shipping Mileven until after season 3 out of spite hahahah. I watch the show because of my love for Hopper and El. So don’t diminish my love for the show for just wanting a love story to happen. The duffers have written a great show with an ensemble cast so it’s not ever been about Mileven. But I have nothing to worry about, since I know things will end the way I think they will.
