#hopper takes billy in

Billy hides in his room like a spooked cat at first.
Hopper tries his best to be patient. The boy has been through a lot, he reminds himself. He needs time.
The first of Billy's things Hopper finds outside of his room is some hairspray in the bathroom.
Billy is still hiding.
But slowly, there is more stuff lying around. His sweater, a few earrings, some books Hopper or El definitely didn‘t buy.
Billy shows up in the living room more often. They watch cheesy movies together both of them deny to like.
One day, Hopper comes home and finds a topless Steve Harrington drinking a soda in the kitchen.
"Hey Hop! Billy said you would not mind, if I stayed for dinner?"
Hopper finally realizes that Billy trusts him.

Still thinking about Steve and his uncle Phil Callahan (I think it was pretty universal that everybody thought he should be Steve’s uncle), but specifically post-season 2.
Like imagine, Callahan and Powell are finishing up their shift at the station when Hopper radios something like, ‘I’m at the hospital, bring me a change of clothes and something to eat. I’m going to be here for a while.’ So Callahan and Powell get some food and the clothes Hopper keeps in his office, and they go to the hospital. Hopper looks like shit, and he’s there with Nancy Wheeler and one of Will Byers’ little friends, which is weird. He’s also in the waiting room and doesn’t look like he’s able to keel over so, safe bet, someone else is.
Callahan asks who they got back there at the same time Hopper is telling them to take Wheeler and Henderson home. Hopper says, “Harrington. He got pretty banged up.”
Callahan kinda freezes, “Steve Harrington?”
Before Hopper can properly articular obviously, Steve Harrington, Callahan is already halfway down the corridor. Hopper asks what his problem is and Powell is just like, “Man, that’s his nephew.”

“There’s no lock.”
Billy still had his only duffel bag slung over his shoulder when he walked into the bedroom. The window was open; from outside, a comfortable breeze blew in, cooling the sweat at his temples. Hopper stood behind him, arms crossed, a large and intimidating force even in his own home.
Their home, Billy reminded himself.
"Do you need one tonight?" Hopper asked, and Billy shook his head.
"No, it's fine."
Hopper nodded, tight and short. A two-finger salute without the two fingers. "Hey, we'll go back for your car in the morning, alright?"
Billy's breath was sharp then, loud because he didn't want to go back to the house he'd fought so hard to run from. But he nodded. He needed his car.
"Billy."
He still didn't look up from the floor, from the bed, from the nightstand with a little yellow lamp and flower-shaped clock that ticked in the silence.
"You're safe," Hopper told him, gave another second before walking away in socks instead of boots. Man instead of Cop. Father instead of--
Billy carried one of the dining chairs in to prop under the doorknob for the night.
In the morning, they went to get his car.
In the afternoon, he had work at the pool until early evening.
At Hopper's trailer--at home, his bedroom--there was a new doorknob, and Billy's stomach tangled into a knot. Tears burned his eyes, his fist clenched; he thought it would be different with Hopper, but of course it wasn't, because Hopper was the same, because they were all the fucking same, and--
The lock was backwards.
For Billy, it was backwards. For Neil, it was backwards. There was a small key taped to the door, and everything was backwards.
Hopper came in from the kitchen, barefoot this time, in sweats and a tank, and asked, "That gonna work out for ya?"
Billy looked into his eyes. Looked for the blaze he was used to under there, looked for the threat of changing his room, of putting the lock back on the right way, because the right way would keep Billy out of his hair and in line.
But it was all air. It was clear skies and steady waves.
"Yeah," Billy said. "Thanks," he said, because Hopper had already told him not to call him sir and laughed when he did again anyway.
"Dinner's almost ready. Come get it whenever."
Big feet shuffled away again, and the air that lingered wasn't billowy smoke from a fire that refused to be tamed.
It was safety.

And now repeat after me: Dying heroically is not the same as redeeming oneself.
Billy didn't want to kill all those people when he was possessed and broke free of the mindflayer's control in his last moments to protect El and her friends.
But he never did anything to make up for his past actions. He never had to own up for being abusive and racist.

Jane, to Billy about Hopper: He can be the father you never had.
Billy: I had a father.
Jane: Yes, I know.
Jane: Unremarkable man. Highly flammable.

From least to most jealous, how would you rank the couples? In general I mean
IIIII LOVE THIS QUESTION HABAKEHSHAHWHAAAAAAAAAAA
Right off the bat Griffin and Billy are the least jealous. They only got their little crush(almost a squish??) on each other. Ace4Ace. DemiAro4DemiAro. They’ve also got attachment issues so they ain’t leaving each other 😭
I think Finney wouldn’t be a jealous person. He knows Robin gets jealous and Robin is always around him, so that solidifies loyalty. Robin’s also had a huge crush on Finney forever so Finney knows he never had his eye on anyone else !!
I don’t think Amy would be a very jealous person. Gwen herself is very defensive of her boundaries and she isn’t the type to flirt with other girls. LESBIANS WIN YALL‼️‼️
Gwen is next but there’s like a huge jump between her and Amy. When they weren’t dating yet, Gwen was always jealous that boys would talk to Amy and flirt with her. She thought those boys were always weird and gross and that she could treat Amy a THOUSAND times better (which she does!!)
Robin is so fuckin jealous that he gets DEPRESSED like it’s that deep. Whenever Finney would talk about Donna or hang around her Robin just got jealous but not in an angry way just in a “she’s so much better than me” way. When Robin and Finney start dating, Robin gets jealous when girls flirt with Finney since he’s a bit more popular because of his looks but Finney is introverted so he’s always hanging around Robin and never leaving his side 😭
Vance and Bruce are the absolute WORST with jealousy. Whenever one of them is jealous, everybody in the room knows it. They don’t want to admit it but their jealousy is so prominent. When Bruce gets jealous, he just wraps an arm around Vance and just hangs around but when Vance is jealous he is GLARING and if looks could kill that person would be six feet underground

This has been sitting in my wip folder since like, idk february lol i had a thought at work, about Billy gaining just enough control to let Heather go. She calls the police, Hop shows up, something something Billy is saved, i am happy, profit.
You can even have the little drabble i started writing in the notes on my phone while waiting for my friend :'3c
Bare feet pound along the asfault heavy frantic breath play along. Heather reaches the phone booth, crashing into the door and trembling as she yanks it open and crams herself inside.
“Get help” Billy's voice had echoed in her ear, hollow and distant, his voice but strange. The second she was given the opportunity to make a run for it she did, looking over her shoulder briefly only once to Billy standing by the camaro, ax in hand, then stepping in the direction of the factory building.
Her hands clamber with the phone, dialing in the emergency number.
“hello, hawkens police station, what's your emergency?” a bored sounding elderly woman answers.
Heather pauses, suddenly unsure of what exactly to say. “uhm, i was kidnapped?”
“you were kidnapped?”
“Yeah, by my friend. But he's not right, something is wrong with him.”
“Miss, are you safe?”
“maybe? I think my friend is in danger. He told me to get help then went into the old steel works factory. I'm in the phone booth up the road, please I need help!”
“alright, just stay calm, ill send someone over.”
Heather drops the phone and crumples to the floor of the booth and lets out a sob.
The high beams of Hops truck caught the phone booth first. He was called to check out an abduction. It was late, he wanted to go home, and was going to pass this off to Powell or Callahan, but the report seemed funny and with hawkins track record he didnt wanna take the chance of this just being some kids hopped up in the woods. Better safe then sorry.
He parked and stepped out his truck.

when steve and billy are engaged they really struggle with what to do about the last name situation, one way or another they have to change them.
they’ve been brainstorming for months and months. henderson is tossed out there, max and susan gave the okay to use mayfield, the byers offered their name up but they just couldn’t decide.
billy likes the idea of steve taking hargrove and himself taking harrinton because it would be funny and confuse people. and wheeler too because steve dated nancy and billy tried to fuck karen (billy’s life revolves around bits).
they finally decide literally three days before the wedding when el is over and she said in passing, “you know when i didn’t have a last name hopper gave me his” and then it clicks. hopper. three kids who grew up without a father figure who then found and pretty damn good one. and now they’ll all share his last name.

"For fuck's sake."
Jim already has a headache and apparently it's gonna get much worse. He pours himself a cup of the shittiest coffee in Hawkins and turns to the kid sitting in front of his desk.
"What happened, kid?" he asks. "Why would you do that?"
Billy Hargrove reeks of cheap liquor, trouble and the metallic smell of blood. His lip is split and he looks like he hasn't slept in a week or so.
Billy doesn't answer, just glares at him.
"Breakin' and entering is no joke," Jim starts again. He sounds as pissed off as he feels, because he still has Mrs. Carters shrill voice in his ear, calling from Loch Nora about a burglar, about her fancy neighborhood getting sullied.
"I didn't do shit," Billy protests. "I…was just…"
He falls silent, mouth snapping shout like he regrets he even said a word.
"What?" Jim probes, because there's a piece of the puzzle missing.
Billy shakes his head, lips thin.
"Should I call the Harrington's and ask if you were invited?" Jim knows he's an asshole, but it comes more naturally to him than being nice.
Something flashes across Billy's face and his tan gets drained out by miserable paleness.
"Don't call them," Billy says, fingers digging into his thigh so hard his knuckles turn white.
"So, let's try again," Jim says, taking another sip from the dishwater the station claims is coffee.
"The key's under the flower pot," Billy mumbles.
Jim raises a brow. "And you know that why?"
Billy's eyes shoot dagger at him, the way only a pissed of teenager can look at an adult.
"Steve put it there for me," he says lowly, like it's a secret, something dirty and shameful you hide under your bed. "In case I need a place to go to…"
"So, you're pals?" Jim asks, huffing a laugh in disbelief. "Why didn't you say so?"
Billy's jaw tightens.
"Nobody knows," he finally says. His fingers find his necklace, tugging at the pendant. "It's better that way."
Jim is close to crack a joke about dramatic teenagers, but Billy's blue eyes are dark and there's a sadness there that doesn't belong to someone so young.
Whatever it is, Jim gets another piece of a puzzle - but apparently they're playing Hide and Seek.
"Okay," he says after a while. He'll put a stamp on the report, saying Confidential or similar shit. "You can go."
Surprise makes Billy look softer, less hurt. "What?"
Jim shrugs. "I've heard enough. Or do you want me to lock you up?"
It's a joke, but his throat clogs up when he looks down on Billy's file and sees that the kid had already spend a night the drunk tank a few weeks ago.
"Whatever, Chief." Billy lifts his hands. "I'm outta here, then."
The kid is halfway through the door, when it hits Jim. Billy can't go back to Loch Nora right now. Mrs. Carter is probably on guard.
"If you still need a place to stay, you can sleep in the break room," Jim offers. "The couch is a disaster though."
Billy stands in the doorway, eyes wide. He plays it cool when he catches himself.
"If I don't have to drink that shit." He points at the coffee. Jim can't blame him. Although 1 am is way too late to get cheeky.
"Just go to bed," Jim grumbles.
Billy salutes him. Jim can see his shoulders sinking, his whole body a bit less tense. Maybe he'll get them donuts for breakfast.

before max is in el's life, el wears dull blues and neutral dark colors. (blue because of her relationship with mike) (edit: i just realized el has a very faint bit of red on her flannel when she becomes max's friend and also in her first appearance in s3. interesting.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but when max and el become friends, el's life brightens with color. max brings vibrance and brightness to el's life. (notice how el wears a lot of red's and rainbows... and she even wears a very slight purple in her flannel which could be signifying she's starting the journey of being and finding herself)
Tumblr media
and when el moves away it's almost like she loses the color she recently found... (also notice max not wearing bright colors either here. her shirt being a kind of purple)
Tumblr media
when el is shown in season 4 for the first time, she's wearing little to no color. the only color she is wearing is RED. (and which character is associated with the color red?)
Tumblr media
when el sees max in a coma, seeing her for the first time in person after she moved, her color is once again... gone. back to the neutral dark hues and even the blue. (el wearing the hoodie to disguise and hide from anyone noticing her... putting on the blue to hide herself...)

Vance Hopper post revival!
This bombastic loud little man is 14 1/2 years old, he likes hockey, pinball, rock n’ roll, and peanut butter “Koogle”.
Tumblr media
I wanted to try and set established designs for the ghost boys after being brought back because I think after having to go through what they did they’d obviously not come back the same in my opinion.
I think post revival Vance would probably take his trauma and turn to smoking, and getting into more fights to try and help his pent anger.
I definitely think he would have a meltdown and cut his hair to gain a sense of control in his life because I think the Grabber grabbed his hair during his time in the basement, and him cutting his hair is a way to take back that control.
I think Vance would have control issues, both before and after dying because of home issues and other things in his life.
I also tried to lean more into the “Billy Hargrove look” because I think it’s cool and I also tried to add more playing card motifs in his design by adding a club necklace and a spade badge on his sleeve.
More ghost boys will come after Vance, I just wanted to show y’all my perspective on the au and how he would look in it ^^
