Chapter 2.

Shinobu introduced you to her many friends and acquaintances. She had many connections apparently which didn't seem so surprising considering the fact that she was a quite well known shrine maiden before quitting and turning towards the legal industry.

Now she was working under Arataki Itto, otherwise known as the number uno itto which you slightly cringed at but found funny.

Speaking of Itto, he was a quite energetic and loud guy. You were surprised how he and Sara were friends. Or maybe he just annoyed her to become friends with him? Whatever the case was, you enjoyed his company.

Gorou was another friend of Kuki and Itto. And he too was part of the Inazuma police, just from the Sangonomiya prefecture. You thought for a second of asking him for help but it didn't even make sense considering Hikari went missing in Narukami prefecture.

However, he was in the higher ranks as he was a police deputy chief. Actually he was in the second highest position.

In your mind you wonder if you should ask him.. Though you also argue that you're wasting his time off..

"Hello Y/n! Nice to meet you, I'm Gorou!" Gorou said with a smile and held his hand out for you to shake.

You reacted slowly and shook his hand gently.

"Nice to meet you.." You mutter with a small smile.

Gorou watched how your sad eyes glowed under the bar lights and nervously scratched his head.

Sure he saw a smile on your face but your eyes told that you weren't feeling happy.

"Wanna have a drink?" He asks, trying to get into some small talk with you.

"Sure."

The two of you walk towards the bartender and ask for two shots of tequila.

After the drinks are made the two of you walk over to a sofa in the corner of the bar where it was less crowded.

You take a sip of the tequila and are hit with a taste of nostalgia from the drink. But it also stung pretty badly so you almost choked.

"Easy there. You wouldn't want to choke." Gorou says, casually drinking the glass in one go. "Now, tell me about whatever is troubling you."

You find out Gorou was a great listener and so told him about Hikari. His face saddened by the news of her disappearance and comforting you by patting you on the shoulder.

You end up crying a little bit but quickly wipe your tears away, not wanting to show a sense of vulnerability.

"Give me your number, I'll see what I can do for you." Gorou says in a serious voice, yet gently smiling.

Your puffy eyes slightly light up and quickly pull out your phone from your purse and show him your number.

He texts you a sticker of a cute Shiba inu dog and you added him as a new contact.

"Thank you.. For listening, Gorou." You say as you put your phone back in your purse.

"Of course. It's not a problem." He smiles cutely and signals for you to stand up.

"Let's continue to enjoy this night, shall we?"

You end up staying much longer than you had originally planned for. Yet, still enjoy the company of your old and new found friends.

How many shots did you take? Well uhh you kind of lost count. But does it matter?

It was 8 am- wait no 3 am- why did the 8 and 3 look so similar??

For some reason there were still a bunch of people at the bar. Gorou already left while Itto and Heizou were pretty drunk with Sara and Shinobu watching over them who were slightly drunk.

But you? Well you were quite drunk. It wasn't visible much because you were too tired to act on it so it just seemed you almost took no shots.

"Shinobu.. Sara.. I'm heading home.. Be careful.." You say with a tired smile.

Sara looks slightly worried but Shinobu doesn't. Shinobu put her hand on your shoulder and smiled.

"You too. I hope you enjoyed the night Y/n."

You softly smile at the both of them and look over to Itto and Heizou who were on the verge of passing out.

You wave at them and leave the bar.

The cold breeze hits your skin as you walk your way home. It is only a 20 minute walk so how can anything go wrong? Plus you still can see properly so no issues right..?

Well you start to get drowsy after 5 minutes of walking so you sit on a bench to rest a bit. You lean on the bench, almost falling asleep.

You watch the moon glow and smile. Tiny tears slipped out of the corners of your eyes. You cry.

Incoherent words slip out of your mouth. You are somewhat trying to apologize to the moon..?

But everything comes out as cries.

And apparently someone nearby heard your cries because you hear some rustling from a few bushes away from you.

It is a male dressed in black, face covered with a mask and eyes covered with a hat.

Now if you weren't drunk you would've run away, not wanting to be killed by this suspicious looking individual.

However, he somehow looked kind of familiar. But you couldn't see shit because of your tears which were blurring your fucking vision.

You see the individual walk closer towards you, and somehow you remain calm.

And now the individual was standing right next to you, looking down at you- a crying drunk mess.

Well at least you still look pretty.

The male bends down and gently wipes the tears away.

"Do you want me to take you home..?" He asks His voice is calming and caring. It made you feel comfortable.

"Yes.. Please.." You say before being gently picked up by the male in his arms.

Your puffy tired eyes try to look into his eyes but failed as the tears were still blurring your vision. But you can make out the male's eyes were somewhat blue looking- wait no black- huh?

"I'm sorry.." The male whispers and you just look confused and dazed.

"Sleep well.." The male gently strokes your hair and rocks you in his arms as he carries you.

You fall asleep through his calming voice and mutter a small thank you.

It's a miracle i managed to color this one because I was also almost not coloring everything in it LOL

So here's the baddies' outfits... On Daisuke. Yeah. If you read the previous post about this AU, you will remember he just starts as one of the lackeys of the big bad (which is Daemon and the Demon Lords) -- but the twist here is that... He wasn't aware of this at all, he believed the lab he was working at was some sort of digimon vet clinic/lab.

Well, you can see the color palette for the outfit is using the same ones from Daemon’s cloak :)

And why the heckie does he appear wearing that getup in a vet clinic/lab? Well, he didn’t know either, but they claimed that it was for protection against certain digimon abilities (a lie, yeah) – but it makes no sense when he gets in touch with Chibimon and the digimon is not even that dangerous as he was told about. The digimon are some sort of critters from another world like in the canon, but I'm picturing them like the critters from Gaim (the Inves), as in, having their own world and the humans using them for some selfish purposes (eh, this is a bit of Cyber Sleuth/Hacker’s Memory too… Yup)

Oh yeah, Daisuke is not working alone in the “vet lab” apparently. He got coworkers. Some are nice, some are just so ready to dunk Daisuke into the trashcan because of him fooling around (he only does that when he’s BORED, y’know?? his job is really BORING!!) but I’m not sure who they are, if they are my OCs or if they are other characters from the canon or even from… the franchise in general. The other kiddo in the getup screaming at him there is… [drum rolls]

Himekawa Maki.

I know, this sounds really funny to think about… I want to just re-use all my ideas for Maki and Daigo so bad you can’t even. And I think I’m de-aging her a little and she’s only 3 years older than Taichi/Yamato/Sora/Meiko/Menoa here. She and Daigo are the same age tho.

Maki is Daisuke’s supervisor btw. Daigo… Well, he does not work here, but I’ll leave him for another post in the future.

And speaking of Daisuke’s circle of friends, who’re none than the same group he got in the canon universe… They all want him to quit that job for his own sanity. Ken, Miyako and Iori are way more vocal about this, meanwhile Takeru, Rui and Wallace try their best, but are not muuuuuuuuuch vocal. And Hikari? Hikari’s a mystery. She doesn’t like him working for that “vet clinic” and then thinks he should quit, but she’s the least vocal about it. I wonder why…

He didn’t quit it yet BECAUSE he claims he needs the money and this is the only job he got.

(and yeah, Daisuke’s backpack has a certain hedgehog’s keychain.)

I don’t think valentines day would have any value inside of borderland but I add a little something anyways: He will probably go on a little walk with you, chatting about anything besides death. He will be even more careful to show no emotions. Bonding in Borderland isn’t the smartest thing to do but he is aware that there could be something between you. Will eventually walk you to your room and maybe will spend some more time with you there.

You take him on a walk, talking about deep things like the meaning of life and stuff

When you invite him to stay for the night he will stay awkwardly in your room at first, not knowing what to do

Guide his ass down on the couch or your bed before he stays there all night

After a while he will warm up again just like on your walk

You’ll be the one asking if he wants to go out again and again he’s too stunned to speak, thinking your messing with him

— quiet days were arisu's favourites. those in which the clouds swirled in a perfect way to cloud the sky and lower the temperature. the cold days when, as usual, he didn't have much to do, apart from lying with you in his bed and curling up comfortably in the silk sheets, feeling your body heat enveloping him in a sense of peace and comfort. his arms wrapped gently around your waist, not wanting to let go and trying to pull you closer to his body if possible. hiding his head in the crook of your neck, and inhaling your sweet floral aroma, leaving it impregnated in his clothes and in his memories. the sweet way he smiles against you as he buries his nose in your hair. listening to you speak between whispers as you tell him about your day. soon, your voice relaxes him so much that he allows himself to sleep a little, letting himself be carried away between your presence that calms him down and your sweet voice that lulls him to sleep. without a doubt, he would prefer these days over any other plan that comes to mind. definitely, these days are even more enjoyable now that he has you.

— chishiya is a quiet person, and you noticed that from the day you met him. he is very closed with respect to his emotions, and many times it is difficult for him to express out loud what he really thinks. however, being a fairly observant person and having known him for so long, it's not difficult for you to know when he's having a bad day and needs your presence to feel better (even if he denies it). his shifts at the hospital were getting heavier, and you knew better than anyone the injustices he had to endure. however, even though he doesn't say so, his actions show how good it is for him to come home and find you at home waiting for him. the moment when he arrives and throws himself into your arms without having to say anything to know that it is one of those days. the way your arms wrap protectively around his body, feeling a sigh of comfort leave his lips, and his hands wrap around your waist. cook him his favorite food and listen to him vent about what is bothering him. understand him, and without having to speak show him that you are there for him and that you care, your presence being enough to make him happy.

— before meeting you, usagi always believed that the only person capable of understanding and accepting her as she was, were the mountains. however, when you entered her life and she had the opportunity to open her heart to you, and, unlike the rest, you really cared for her without any ulterior motive, she knew that you were different. although it seems like something pretty common, climbing mountains for her is something she only enjoys doing in the company of someone she feels comfortable with. although it was a bit difficult because you were afraid of heights, usagi convinced you to go with her to a climb and she told you that she would protect you no matter what happens. trusting her, you accepted, and even though it was a little scary, you can't deny that you enjoyed doing it with her. from the top of the mountains, everything looks simply majestic. and usagi, she can't help but look at you with heart eyes, wondering how she was so lucky to end up with someone as wonderful as you, someone with whom she could share everything she felt without feeling judged. someone to trust and someone who feels like she finally accepts and loves her no matter what.

— things with kuina were painfully slow. from the moment she first saw you, kuina was head over heels for you, and everyone could tell just by the way she looked at you or how she treated you. the complicit smiles, the sweet looks, and the undeniable sweet words. falling in love with her, it was not complicated at all. but it was difficult to decipher if it was reciprocal. even though kuina was dying to tell you everything she felt, she was afraid that you wouldn't be ready to hear it. and yet, that night, under the cool breeze of night, and the moonlight surrounded by the twinkle of stars, it felt natural, as if it had been meant to happen forever. the familiar way your hands found their place on her face, and the way her lips seemed to fit perfectly with yours, joining them in a tender, sweet kiss. a kiss that could say more than a thousand words. and the moment you kissed her back, she understood that it was your answer. she understood that her feelings were reciprocated, and she couldn't avoid smiling during the kiss, feeling a horde of butterflies in her stomach, letting herself be intoxicated by your sweet presence and your undeniable love for her.

***There will be spoilers for the Teen Wolf Movie below. Because I, like an idiot, actually watched the damn thing.***

Everything wrong with Teen Wolf: The Movie

• Eli's Mother plothole. Who is she? Idfk. Personally, I want it to be Braeden. He was born somewhere around the s3b/s4 mark as the movie is 13 years after s6.

• I'm not a Sterek person. I was actually extremely (still kinda am) against Sterek for a very long time. But this movie? I'm questioning a lot of things. What are the complicated feelings, Derek? Hmm? Oh wait, that's right. He can't answer me because he's fucking dead.

• While we're on the topic. Why, Jeff? Why. Not only did he die of fire (like the rest of his fucking family), but he died in front of his son. Derek Hale allowed his son to watch him die. I'm not saying Derek wouldn't die for Eli (because he absolutely would), but to traumatize him like that? No. The man who was kidnapped, tortured, groomed, sexually assaulted at 15, forced to kill the girl he loved, whose family was burned inside their own home by the woman who molested him... was killed off by burning him with hellfire.

• NOBODY making a move to stop Derek from sacrificing himself in the first place? Scott just stared. Stood there. Did nothing. Wtf? Even though Jordan could've just held Void himself, like, dude. You're a Hellhound. He's a werewolf/demon thing. You were destined to kill bigger.

• Derek allowed Scott to take in Eli? Excuse? The man who hates being a werewolf and his 17(?) year old 10th grade girlfriend who died before Eli was born, and who just so happens to be related to the woman who molested him and murdered his family? Yeah, no. Why not his perfectly capable(sorta) and healthy(physically, not mentally) uncle, cousin and sister. Or at least his Grandpa Noah, Grandma Melissa or Uncle Chris. (I'm a Peter/Chris person. Sue me.). These people have been in Beacon Hills and has known him his entire life. Scott met him once when he was three.

• What happened to Stydia? Like, you can't tell me Stiles just allowed her to walk out that door without talking in some way? He loved her for fucks sake.

• Jordan and Malia? I'm not saying it's bad. It's not, I actually kinda like it. But where did it come from? No buildup whatsoever. Just BOOM sex scene.

• Liam gets like, 5 mins screen time. Despite preparing to take on the role of Alpha in s6, he's like a side character put there just to be there. He slayed those 5 minutes tho holy shit.

• Liam doesn't say a single word to Mason. Mason doesn't say a single word to Liam. Why? They were best friends and had this seemingly unbreakable bond in the show but now it's like mom and dad are fighting and don't acknowledge each others existence.

• Speaking of Mason, why is he (a gay black man) a cop? This could've been interpreted as either good or bad depending on how you personally want to take it, but during the time this movie was in production, the BLM movement was still pretty big.

• It's an entire game of 'Where's Waldo' but instead of Waldo actually being there, Waldo is both a giant motherfucking plothole and multiple people. Where is Corey? Where is Theo? Where is Cora? Where is Braeden? Where is Kira? Where is Isaac? WHERE. IS. STILES?

• On the Isaac and Stiles Topic, they're the two that should've been there. Isaac had the Nogitsune at the end of season 3, and took it with him to France. Why do Hikari and Liam have it in FUCKING JAPAN? How'd it get there? Why do they have it? What happened to Isaac?

• Stiles. Where is he. You're telling me that the one person who probably knew the Nogitsune more than it knew itself, wasn't at the battle. You're telling me that Stiles, the one person able to out-fox a fucking fox on multiple occasions when he was FUCKING 17 wasn't there? In all his F.B.I. glory? Because ehe could've had Cora, Braeden, Isaac and Kira in tow, and showed up in the final battle guns blazing, killing the Nogitsune, and saving his pack in his tactical F.B.I vest fresh off a secret important case like sorry I'm late, had shit to do? Then Eli could've met his father's beta, his (possible, cause I love Derek and Braeden) mother, AND the badass F.B.I. guy whose jeep he steals 24/7 and had saved his father on multiple occasions? (Bcus it's confirmed Derek talks about Stiles to Eli) And a cutesy pack scene to finish it off? (With maybe some Stira, Stisaac and/or Stora cause he showed up with them and could be dating one (or all) of them)

• Each antagonist of the movie has (or at least a reason to have) a vendetta against Stiles. We know all about the Nogitsune. Harris hated Stiles' guts, albeit for no particular reason. Even Allison could've blamed Stiles for her death in some way (not that she would, of course.) It reads as though it was written for DOB but when he didn't want to do it, they decided not to rewrite it as such.

• Why Mr. Harris in the first place-? Like, he was one of the sacrifices in S3A, so surely the NEMETON would've known he didn't actually die. And the fact that he still has beef with them just blows my mind :/

How they are with kids

No warnings for this!

Prompt: How well can they handle children?

Characters: Chishiya Shuntaro, Arisu Ryōhei, Ann, Kuina hikari

What I was listening to while writing:

Chishiya Shuntarō

He thinks he's alright with kids skill wise, since he works with kids often his kid skills are a lot higher than expected. Chishiya doesn't particularly want kids but if you want kids he wouldn't deny you.

You two are out walking to a shop you like to visit holding hands and chatting when a toddler catches your attention. The kid appears to of lost her parents, crying to the point her words can barely be heard.

You walk up to her kneeling down trying to ask her what's wrong but she doesn't respond still bawling.

Chishiya kneels down next to you and calms the girl down with random noises and a game of peekaboo, he let's you speak to her, soon her parents come find her and leave after thanking you both. As you look at Chishiya you see him in a new light, a much softer one than before.

Arisu Ryōhei

He's not good with kids and he knows it. Even if you wanted a kid he'd treat it as a friend more than a son or daughter.

Arisu was strung along with you to a family event, all your cousins would be there even the ones under age 10. Arisu is visibly nervous yet still he manages to have kids near him whenever you look over. You look over once again and notice one of your cousins are crying next to him, Arisu is trying to shush him (bribing him) you have to walk over and drag your cousin back to your aunt before asking Arisu what happened.

You were just as confused as him so you decided to keep Arisu close to you from now on.

"He started crying when he heard my name apparently it was girly and he didn't like it??"

Ann

Ann doesn't mind kids but she definently isn't some prodigy with them. If you wanted kids she would give a stern no.

You and Ann are sitting on your lounge watching movies for Halloween, your cuddled up together paying all attention to the movie.

You say as you leave to the kitchen upstairs. A knock is heard, you being upstairs Ann gets up to answer the door to a teen. Honestly if it wasn't Halloween Ann would've thought it was a poorly planned robbery with the teens clothes.

"I'm going to get some more snacks"

Ann smiles at the teen and closes the door while she runs upstairs to grab a candy apple for her. Your confused about what she needs it for but figure that it's important with the way she's running. When she get back to the door she can see the kid walking to the next house already so she waddles to her and gives her the apple apologising.

"Trick or treat!"

"What happened?"

Your back on the lounge when Ann walks back and when she finishes explaining you laugh at the story then go back to cuddling.

Kuina Hikari

Kuina is good with kids, but that's only if you ask the kid. They like her so much because she's so relaxed about what they do.

Kuina is sitting at a bar when she gets a text from her friend asking her to babysit with her so of course she joins her friend. When she gets there the kid is having organised fun like colouring and drinking apple juice.

"Really? You called me here for this? I thought it'd be some hard to care for kid"

Weeeeeell, there are several answers to this question, depending on the context we're using.

Scenario 1: We take Kizuna as the baseline, because, apparently, these dorks forgot how to communicate with each other. Which, in fact, I also have to give the movie props for, because it IS a very realistic display of early adult life, where everyone's busy figuring themselves out and may have a hard time taking note of others (and their mental health). Taichi seems to have developed the tendency to pull himself back - and only really tends to meet up with Yamato to superficially mope about his issues. Unfortunately, since Yamato is basically having the same issue, they are unable to pull each other out of that state and, instead, basically enable each other to spiral even further. Hikari WANTS Taichi to be part of the family, but can't really approach him in that regard; Sora is pretty much in the same boat and needs to figure herself out at this point in time, so she literally does not have the mental capacity to reach out to him; Jyou is pretty busy, Mimi is in America, the 02 kids are on their own adventures, living their best lives; Koushirou may have missed the implications, on one hand because he is busy himself, on the other because he may still think that things have never REALLY changed between them and he hasn't fully realized what is going on, so he's not interfering... I guess in this case it HAS to be the events of Kizuna that make some of the realize just HOW badly his mental state is.

Scenario 2: Let's assume that they HAVEN'T forgotten how to communicate after Digimon Adventure 02; realistically speaking, my best bet would actually be that Jyou has the BEST grasp of how Taichi feels. Aside from Yamato (and Sora) who has a similar identity crisis, Jyou has already been there, done that several years ago - so he would be able to see the signs and approach Taichi about it. Yamato, once he has gotten a grip on himself (again), would probably try to punch his way out of it - no pun intended, because really, sometimes, these two dorks seem to need that physical wake-up call. With Sora, it's a similar case, but she may need more time, maybe years even - once she has figured herself out better, getting in touch with herself again, she would also be able to finally approach Taichi. I feel like this is something that a lot of them would like to do; especially Hikari and Koushirou - the former because she has ABSOLUTELY grown into a person who can speak her mind towards her brother and the latter because he has tried to do so at least a hundred times already and is FED UP with it. (I would also like to see Mimi set-up an intervention because she has seen that on US TV, but that'd be a more humourous take.) And as I have hinted at before - I would love to see a heart-to-heart between Daisuke and Taichi, where Daisuke can finally give back a senpai-ted-talk to his beloved senpai.

Scenario 3: LET'S TALK SOME WISH FULFILMENT NOW: While I would really love for all of them to pull Taichi out of his state in a group effort... My personal preference would be Koushirou and Sora. The latter, because I absolutely need it to happen, I need them to realize that things had to get really shitty for both of them, including the drifting apart for a while, before it could get better again between them... And the former because I have already outlined it in my head over and over again - also in written and drawn form, because, once again, I need them to finally get this out of their systems.

The gang realizes that none of them had a New Year's dream (it's a Japanese tradition to analyze your first dream of the year). Yamato and Takeru go to investigate and Bakumon reveals he ate everyone's dreams! Dun dun dunnnn

Gotta love the totally realistic conversations of people being like "you didn't have a dream either, so weird!" I feel like I don't remember my dreams most nights lol.

I've always known that tapir were associated with dream-eating in Japan (due to anime and video games), but I've never looked up the origins of this. According to Wikipedia the nightmare eating, supernatural "baku" and the tapir are both called "baku," but they're different...but also baku look just like tapir lol. Not confusing at all!

In part 2 of this drama Yamato and Takeru are trapped in Takeru's dream. Takeru is a cat, Patamon's a kite, and Gabumon's a shishimai. I thought it was funny that Takeru had a profound reason for Patamon to be a kite, but Gabumon was a shishimai because...he just kinda looks like one lol

Takeru uses the power of lucid dreaming to defeat Bakumon and escape his dream...that's a pretty obvious weakness

A very "cool" song for Yamato, very fitting. A lot of it is directed at Taichi, telling him to stop being so hot-headed and just be cool, like Yamato.

I feel like there's some conflicting vibes here because at one point in the lyrics he's like "we're the chosen children, we can do anything!" but then he's like "I'm fine on my own." Kinda jarring that both ends of his arc would be put into one song like that. Like...pick a personality.

I liked that they incorporated his harmonica in the song's intro. Smart.

Image Song 2 - Be All Right (Takeru Takaishi)

Translation

This had a similar vibe to Hikari's song, kinda abstract and hopeful about the future. (Makes sense since Hikari and Takeru become a duo).

I feel like Takeru's voice actress didn't even try to do her character's voice when singing this. It just sounds like some lady lol. In my opinion, when it comes to image songs, I prefer the song to sound more authentic to the character than to sound "good."

The Digimon’s New Year Performance

This was definitely the best gag drama yet! They threw a lot of dumb jokes in there that made me laugh/roll my eyes. Best bits were probably: Gabumon finally taking his fur off (in the AUDIO drama), Tentomon speaking without his accent (cursed), Sora and Joe praising Piyomon and Gomamon for their lame tricks and Hikari judging Tailmon for acting cutesy.

I felt bad for Agumon for being booed, glad he got his revenge at the end lol.

Love hearing the digimon sing. This is what I was talking about in my critique of Takeru's song. I love in-character songs that aren't worried about sounding kinda goofy.

The digimon sing about their power together and their love for their human partners, very wholesome. There were also some lyrics thrown in there about taking it easy and stopping to smell the flowers. Cozy.

well now that it's been a couple days since i watched the teen wolf movie and i've sufficiently forgotten 90% of it, i think it's time i told you all what i liked/disliked about it

1. jackson whittemore

he was just so fucking funny, like why was he even there?? did they give colton a script or did they just give him a recap of everything he missed in the show before simply throwing him on set and going "good luck."

i loved him though. it really feels like he's more comfortable in himself now. when he came back in s6, he wasn't as bitter but he still felt quite stiff. now he's comfortable in his sexuality and his place in the world, and he's no longer trying too hard. love that for him. his friendship with lydia also means a lot to me. i originally thought they were gonna put them back together, but i adore them as snarky besties.

also i'm glad they didn't break him and ethan up. we got our lgbtq+ scraps, guys!!

2. peter hale

hasn't changed a bit and i love it. his entrance was iconic and so fitting for his character. the tension between him and chris was obvious (perhaps because of melissa?) and i love how they still have an air of mystery when it comes to him. no one truly knows if he's on the good side or the bad.

also i can confidently say that peter crawling on the floor in human form, sniffing, was the absolute highlight of the movie.

3. eli hale

he was a great addition to the cast. i loved his relationship with derek, but him as a character really refreshed the film and gave us some wholesome but funny moments.

also we all know he's basically a stiles mini-me, so it was nice to have someone there to fill what the film would've been missing because of stiles' absense without full-out replacing him.

4. jr borne

his acting in the movie was absolutely outstanding. i was in shock. he was already amazing in the show but he's outdone himself. i really felt his emotions through the screen. literal chills. what a powerful performance!

5. the hellhound

i'm so glad they gave parrish an important role in the film. the hellhound was one of my favourite supernatural creatures from the show, so it was great to see ryan kelley shine once more.

6. coach finstock

he also has not changed a single bit and it's really refreshing to see. they didn't try to shoehorn him into the story too much. he simply played the part he always has, and made us laugh doing it.

7. the jeep

when they said the jeep would be featured in the film, i didn't think they meant they would try and stick it in every scene possible. i love it.

as a sterek shipper, i love the idea of eli nicking the jeep because he knows derek has some complicated feelings towards it. i won't do a sterek section on this list because i don't know whether i'm happy or mad about it, but this was an interesting addition to the film.

8. melissa had a crossbow

she had a crossbow. it's about fucking time.

now what i disliked:

1. the misuse of key characters

why were liam and mason used as side characters?? why did they barely speak, they're best friends?? why did they introduce hikari and not bother actually giving her a personality outside of being a kitsune?? i have too many thoughts on all of this, but it pissed me off.

2. just general confusion

they didn't specify if melissa and chris were still together or not. no explanation on why scott and malia split up. how did parrish and malia get together? who is eli's mum? why did liam have the nogitsune? why did scott and allison adopt eli?

also where has all the chemistry between the cast gone?? shelley especially felt so awkward with everyone. it's like they're not friends anymore, which i know isn't true.

3. the nudity and swearing

i could've gone my whole life without seeing allison, parrish and malia's bare asses. also the swearing was great, but they all felt like year 7's when they did it.

4. the returns

as someone who didn't really care for allison, her return was just annoying. out of all the characters they could've brought back, allison is the one they definitely should've left alone. hers was a major death in the show, and the start of a lot of character development for scott and chris. they should've come up with a different story not involving allison or the nogitsune. you know they only brought her back so that scallison fans can have their endgame.

and adrian harris?? what?? why?? he didn't even do anything of purpose in the film. what was the actual point in bringing him back??

5. derek's death

i'm not even gonna touch this. but i'm fuming.

So if you’ve known Digimon Adventure for long enough, you’ll know that it has some very strict color-coding for its characters thanks to the Crests: Taichi with orange, Yamato with blue, Sora with red, Koushirou with purple, Mimi with green, Jou with grey, Takeru with yellow, and Hikari with pink. There’s also a very strict “order” of characters, which is exactly the order above (it’s the order in which we saw their Digimon’s first evolution, and in the second ED). The franchise has followed this with strict consistency for almost the entire time since Adventure’s airing (it took until a little after 02 for the order to completely solidify, but after that it basically hasn’t budged). For Tamers fans, the order for the main three characters has also been consistent -- although there are rare exceptions, it’s pretty much always Takato, Jian, and Ruki in that order, associated with their D-Ark colors red, green, and blue respectively.

On the flip side, 02 and Frontier have been...decidedly less straightforward. Things like color coding and character ordering probably don’t matter much to the average viewer, but for fanartists (like @digitalgate02 and @demonoflight, who graciously assisted in helping me write the rest of this post), this can easily drive a person absolutely nuts. However, thanks to DigiFes 2022 and other surrounding events, these questions have finally been cleared up!...Maybe.

Let’s take a look at the history of 02 and Frontier’s color handling and ordering (with some bonus series thrown in)!

So as I said earlier, generally speaking, the Adventure order and coloring has been very straightforward, and when you involve Adventure and 02 in a group of twelve, the order for that has been consistent for the most part after 02′s airing: Taichi, Yamato, Sora, Koushirou, Mimi, Jou, Takeru, Hikari, Daisuke, Ken, Miyako, Iori. (This ordering has basically all been all but completely solidified on the Kizuna website and in most Kizuna promotional materials thereof.) That said, things get a little more complicated once we talk about the 02 group specifically, especially because of Ken’s unusual position -- usually “latecomer party members” are added on at the end, but Ken ends up in a right-hand man position to Daisuke in terms of the story, so it feels a little awkward to tack him on in the end like that. If you go by rough order of “evolution introduction” for the series, that implies a Daisuke-Miyako-Iori-Takeru-Hikari-Ken order, but other materials have offered a “Jogress order” (Daisuke-Ken-Miyako-Hikari-Iori-Takeru) or “original order but with Ken moved up” (Daisuke-Ken-Miyako-Iori-Takeru-Hikari).

Things get even trickier when you get to figuring out their image colors. You could try doing the Crest colors (orange and blue for Daisuke, pink...? for Ken, red and green for Miyako, purple and grey for Iori, yellow for Takeru, and pink for Hikari). But not only does this cause overlap with Ken and Hikari both having pink of some kind, it’s also just not very good for design and merch, due to the lopsided nature of three of its members having two colors while the others have three (the Kizuna website attempts it, but only on the character square borders).

The seemlingly easiest and most straightforward one to use is the D-3 colors (blue for Daisuke, black/grey for Ken, red for Miyako, yellow for Iori, green for Takeru, pink for Hikari), and we do have quite a bit of precedent on this one, most notably in 02′s second ED. Unfortunately, this color scheme comes with one major issue: grey isn’t exactly a very easy color to use in design, especially for merch. (Jou merchandise struggles with this issue a lot, and it’s really only offset by the fact he’s surrounded by a whole seven others to make the impact less noticeable, plus the fact it’s explicitly a light grey, unlike Ken’s dark grey and black D-3.) Ken’s D-3 remaining black was a very important symbol of his penance in-series, but it makes merchandise making a bit tricky. It also is not very easy to use for shiny glowy things, and even this same ED struggles with that:

...yeah. (White is never used for Ken anywhere else.)

And then there’s the fact Ken’s Wormmon is associated with being the “green” side of Paildramon, and Daisuke and Ken’s Jogress D-3 combo is blue and green...but because the other combo colors (red/white and yellow/white) aren’t really ones that are easy to make hard matchups with, it’s still hard to say that there was any hard association with green and Ken back in 02, especially since that makes it more complicated with Takeru.

Even Kizuna struggled with this for a bit. The movie shows Takeru with a yellow phone case, in a context where the other five members of the 02 group have cases matching their original D-3s, but in all other contexts -- promotional art, merchandise, the card game, the character song album -- it’s back to green, matching with his D-3. But there is merch that associates Takeru with yellow, his Crest color, overlapping him with Iori...and giving Ken green. Generally speaking, it’s understandable that any context with all twelve Tokyo Chosen Children will have to have a color overlap somewhere, but Takeru particularly sticks out as one they don’t really know what to do with.

(Note that the card game’s backing colors don’t apply; the card game’s mechanics are tied to its own set colors, which means that characters are placed in there for reasons closer to their Digimon’s archetype than their own original series image colors.)

However, starting with the Kizuna character song albums (technically also the concurrently-released Digimon Stitches, but that one also had a contradictory palette in the same set), it seems like recent merch (especially in relation to the upcoming movie) is finally consistent about color -- but what’s interesting is that Takeru is now orange. That was never used in 02. That wasn’t even used up until 2021!

The theme behind the new colors seems to be, quite simply, their partners’ colors (V-mon’s blue, Wormmon’s green, Hawkmon’s red, Armadimon’s yellow, Patamon’s orange, and either the pink from Tailmon’s ears or Angewomon). This does seem to be in line with the angle taken in both Kizuna and the new movie that this group is rather unusually close with their partners, possibly even more so than their seniors. The benefit of this color scheme is that, with there being a consistent baseline for all six of them, there’s now proper justification for Ken being associated with green, while also not putting Takeru in an awkward position.

These colors were used for the official DigiFes 2022 penlight, which explicitly lists the following colors as the kids’ “image colors”: "light blue" for Daisuke, "red" for Miyako, "yellow" for Iori, "orange" for Takeru, "light pink" for Hikari, and "green" for Ken.

Perhaps acknowledging the truly chaotic nature of this issue (probably fitting when this group is concerned), the Karatez collab firmly, undeniably associates these colors with the original 02 kids instead of just the Kizuna-era ones, but also strings a bunch of other colors here and there to reference their other associations: Daisuke’s orange glasses and shoes (Courage and Friendship), Ken’s black shirt (D-3), Wormmon’s green maracas and blue band (Jogress with Daisuke and V-mon), Miyako’s red shoes and green guitar (Love and Purity), Iori’s purple guitar and grey shoes (Knowledge and Faith), Armadimon’s orange tambourine and green band (Jogress with Takeru and Patamon), Takeru’s yellow shoes (Hope), Hikari’s pink keytar and shoes (D-3 and shoes), and Tailmon’s red keytar (Jogress with Miyako and Hawkmon). That’s basically about all you can cram in there at once. Whew!

(As an aside, some of Miyako’s merch tends to toe dangerously close to purple at times, including in this very collab, but it’s probably intended to be pushing the boundary of what can be considered “red” as far as possible; her smartphone case has some noticeably purple tones, probably to prevent it from overlapping too much with Sora’s red.)

It is still probably a bit weird that this color scheme is obviously retroactive, since it wasn’t ever in 02 itself or anywhere near its airing, but it’s nice to finally have something consistent to work with for once after all these years. Will future things continue to maintain this? Hopefully. Probably.

As for ordering, unfortunately, this is still fluctuating, because even the same sets of merch can’t seem to decide whether Ken is second or last. It does seem like most merch so far has been favoring the Daisuke-Ken-Miyako-Iori-Takeru-Hikari ordering, putting Ken next to Daisuke for obvious reasons, which the movie website also supports -- and the added benefit of this ordering is that if you put them in two rows or columns of three (which is done quite often), the Jogress pairs will still be next to each other. So for the most part, I’d say it’s safe to say things have mostly settled on that one.

Frontier

Frontier is explicitly based off Super Sentai, so that means a lot of its visual compositions with the cast are focused on Takuya in the center. However, unlike Sentai, Frontier doesn’t really have ordered roll calls. And while the OP gives you a Takuya-Izumi-Junpei-Tomoki-Kouji order, putting Kouji last feels a bit off considering we pretty much all know he ends up being Takuya’s lancer character for the series (and unlike Ken, we know this very early in the series). Besides, if you watch Sentai, that’s pretty much just how it goes. The first ED offers multiple different orders, so it’s confusing. (And on one hand, it’s possible to make an argument that it’s refreshing that the orders seem malleable, but on the other hand, this is jarring since ordering is a staple of Sentai.)

Also unlike Sentai, there hasn’t been a lot of consistency with the colors, which is especially strange considering that producer Seki explicitly mentioned that Izumi should be associated with pink due to Sentai’s precedent. In fact, a lot of older materials do seem to want to associate Izumi with pink specifically:

But as you can see, there's already some contradictions in regards to color associations, because we can't tell if Takuya's supposed to be orange or red (Sentai associations would suggest red), whether Junpei should be blue or yellow, or whether Tomoki should be light blue or green...and to make things even more complicated, the D-Scanners all have two colors each (and that’s in base colors, because Takuya and Kouji get new ones later).

And, unfortunately, you shouldn’t expect the elemental symbols to help you either, because not only does Kouji being associated with pure white pose similar problems to Ken having black or dark grey, the combo of red/white/light blue/pink/dark blue/purple also isn't really very balanced in terms of design (no yellows...).

While Frontier didn’t get a consistent stream of merch to be contradictory per se, it turns out that by the time we get to the 20th anniversary stuff, we still don’t have a consistent answer!

Well, okay, it’s not that bad. The same penlights that doubled down on the new coloring for the 02 kids also offered some official image colors for the Frontier kids as well: “orange-red" for Takuya, "blue" for Kouji, "light green" for Tomoki, "purple" for Izumi, "orange-yellow" for Junpei, and "light grey" for Kouichi. Keeping in mind that the colors have such specific names mainly to not give them too much overlap with the 02 kids’, it’s probably better to consider it as red for Takuya, blue for Kouji, lavender for Izumi, yellow for Junpei, green for Tomoki, and purple-tinted grey for Kouichi. In addition, there’s a consistent aspect about this: they correspond to the grip colors on the D-Scanners (the original ones in the case of Takuya and Kouji), so we have a baseline too!

Kouichi does seem to consistently show an angle of wanting to use proper grey but not really wanting to ruin design composition, so some obvious purple tints are put on it to make it blend nicer with the other colors. This is probably something that’s only possible because unlike with Ken, Kouichi ends up actively embracing his association with darkness, which has a purple elemental symbol and has been associated with “darkness” to some degree in the past (the current card game uses it for darkness-aligned cards even besides Kouichi). On the flip side, the bonus about acknowledging Izumi as having at least some kind of purple tinting to it means much better consistency with Izumi/Fairymon/Shutumon’s coloring.

As for the ordering...well, still, good luck. However, I personally feel that merch lines have been more likely to depict the Takuya-Kouji-Izumi-Junpei-Tomoki-Kouichi order, and if you have to ask me, I personally prefer this ordering as well because it makes a nice alternation between the Hyper Spirit Evolutions (fire/wind/ice and light/thunder/darkness).

Bonus

It seems like it’s always the group ensemble things that want to drive us nuts, because other than having this problem again, that’s what Appmon also has in common with 02 and Frontier. The good thing is that there does seem to be some kind of baseline -- usually Haru-Eri-Astra-Rei-Yuujin seems to be somewhat of a followed order, and Yuujin isn’t really put aggressively in the second position like Ken is because his looming presence in the series isn’t nearly as conspicuous. In addition, the Appli Drive covers also seem to be consistent between the original model and the Duo -- red for Haru, blue for Eri, yellow for Astra, and black/grey for Rei, and this seems to be consistent with their Buddy coloring as well. So one could probably extrapolate and decide that purple for Yuujin would work based on his Duo color and Offmon...but then the second OP decides to mess with you at the last minute.

Of course, the reason why is obvious, and it’s possible it really is just for that OP -- again, grey/black tends to be a hard color to work with, and Yuujin really doesn’t seem to fit the image of purple himself (that’s more Offmon). Sadly, Appmon never lasted long enough to get merch runs to really lock down on any of this, so it’s more “vague” than “contradictory”. But it is at least interesting that Haru is consistently associated with red, despite his temperament completely lacking the tropes associated with the color and the consistent underlying question of whether he’s suitable to be a “protagonist” or not.

But hopefully, this won’t continue to be an issue in the fu--
