Pluto in Aquarius: Brace for a Business Revolution (and How to Ride the Wave)
The Aquarian Revolution
Get ready, entrepreneurs and financiers, because a seismic shift is coming. Pluto, the planet of transformation and upheaval, has just entered the progressive sign of Aquarius, marking the beginning of a 20-year period that will reshape the very fabric of business and finance. Buckle up, for this is not just a ripple – it's a tsunami of change. Imagine a future where collaboration trumps competition, sustainability dictates success, and technology liberates rather than isolates. Aquarius, the sign of innovation and humanitarianism, envisions just that. Expect to see:
Rise of social impact businesses
Profits won't be the sole motive anymore. Companies driven by ethical practices, environmental consciousness, and social good will gain traction. Aquarius is intrinsically linked to collective well-being and social justice. Under its influence, individuals will value purpose-driven ventures that address crucial societal issues. Pluto urges us to connect with our deeper selves and find meaning beyond material gains. This motivates individuals to pursue ventures that resonate with their personal values and make a difference in the world.
Examples of Social Impact Businesses
Sustainable energy companies: Focused on creating renewable energy solutions while empowering local communities.
Fair-trade businesses: Ensuring ethical practices and fair wages for producers, often in developing countries.
Social impact ventures: Addressing issues like poverty, education, and healthcare through innovative, community-driven approaches.
B corporations: Certified businesses that meet rigorous social and environmental standards, balancing profit with purpose.
Navigating the Pluto in Aquarius Landscape
Align your business with social impact: Analyze your core values and find ways to integrate them into your business model.
Invest in sustainable practices: Prioritize environmental and social responsibility throughout your operations.
Empower your employees: Foster a collaborative environment where everyone feels valued and contributes to the social impact mission.
Build strong community partnerships: Collaborate with organizations and communities that share your goals for positive change.
Embrace innovation and technology: Utilize technology to scale your impact and reach a wider audience.
Pluto in Aquarius presents a thrilling opportunity to redefine the purpose of business, moving beyond shareholder value and towards societal well-being. By aligning with the Aquarian spirit of innovation and collective action, social impact businesses can thrive in this transformative era, leaving a lasting legacy of positive change in the world.
Tech-driven disruption
AI, automation, and blockchain will revolutionize industries, from finance to healthcare. Be ready to adapt or risk getting left behind. Expect a focus on developing Artificial Intelligence with ethical considerations and a humanitarian heart, tackling issues like healthcare, climate change, and poverty alleviation. Immersive technologies will blur the lines between the physical and digital realms, transforming education, communication, and entertainment. Automation will reshape the job market, but also create opportunities for new, human-centered roles focused on creativity, innovation, and social impact.
Examples of Tech-Driven Disruption:
Decentralized social media platforms: User-owned networks fueled by blockchain technology, prioritizing privacy and community over corporate profits.
AI-powered healthcare solutions: Personalized medicine, virtual assistants for diagnostics, and AI-driven drug discovery.
VR/AR for education and training: Immersive learning experiences that transport students to different corners of the world or historical periods.
Automation with a human touch: Collaborative robots assisting in tasks while freeing up human potential for creative and leadership roles.
Navigating the Technological Tsunami:
Stay informed and adaptable: Embrace lifelong learning and upskilling to stay relevant in the evolving tech landscape.
Support ethical and sustainable tech: Choose tech products and services aligned with your values and prioritize privacy and social responsibility.
Focus on your human advantage: Cultivate creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence to thrive in a world increasingly reliant on technology.
Advocate for responsible AI development: Join the conversation about ethical AI guidelines and ensure technology serves humanity's best interests.
Connect with your community: Collaborate with others to harness technology for positive change and address the potential challenges that come with rapid technological advancements.
Pluto in Aquarius represents a critical juncture in our relationship with technology. By embracing its disruptive potential and focusing on ethical development and collective benefit, we can unlock a future where technology empowers humanity and creates a more equitable and sustainable world. Remember, the choice is ours – will we be swept away by the technological tsunami or ride its wave towards a brighter future?
Decentralization and democratization
Power structures will shift, with employees demanding more autonomy and consumers seeking ownership through blockchain-based solutions. Traditional institutions, corporations, and even governments will face challenges as power shifts towards distributed networks and grassroots movements. Individuals will demand active involvement in decision-making processes, leading to increased transparency and accountability in all spheres. Property and resources will be seen as shared assets, managed sustainably and equitably within communities. This transition won't be without its bumps. We'll need to adapt existing legal frameworks, address digital divides, and foster collaboration to ensure everyone benefits from decentralization.
Examples of Decentralization and Democratization
Decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs): Self-governing online communities managing shared resources and projects through blockchain technology.
Community-owned renewable energy initiatives: Local cooperatives generating and distributing clean energy, empowering communities and reducing reliance on centralized grids.
Participatory budgeting platforms: Citizens directly allocate local government funds, ensuring public resources are used in line with community needs.
Decentralized finance (DeFi): Peer-to-peer lending and borrowing platforms, bypassing traditional banks and offering greater financial autonomy for individuals.
Harnessing the Power of the Tide:
Embrace collaborative models: Participate in co-ops, community projects, and initiatives that empower collective ownership and decision-making.
Support ethical technology: Advocate for blockchain platforms and applications that prioritize user privacy, security, and equitable access.
Develop your tech skills: Learn about blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and other decentralized technologies to navigate the future landscape.
Engage in your community: Participate in local decision-making processes, champion sustainable solutions, and build solidarity with others.
Stay informed and adaptable: Embrace lifelong learning and critical thinking to navigate the evolving social and economic landscape.
Pluto in Aquarius presents a unique opportunity to reimagine power structures, ownership models, and how we interact with each other. By embracing decentralization and democratization, we can create a future where individuals and communities thrive, fostering a more equitable and sustainable world for all. Remember, the power lies within our collective hands – let's use it wisely to shape a brighter future built on shared ownership, collaboration, and empowered communities.
Focus on collective prosperity
Universal basic income, resource sharing, and collaborative economic models may gain momentum. Aquarius prioritizes the good of the collective, advocating for equitable distribution of resources and opportunities. Expect a rise in social safety nets, universal basic income initiatives, and policies aimed at closing the wealth gap. Environmental health is intrinsically linked to collective prosperity. We'll see a focus on sustainable practices, green economies, and resource sharing to ensure a thriving planet for generations to come. Communities will come together to address social challenges like poverty, homelessness, and healthcare disparities, recognizing that individual success is interwoven with collective well-being. Collaborative consumption, resource sharing, and community-owned assets will gain traction, challenging traditional notions of ownership and fostering a sense of shared abundance.
Examples of Collective Prosperity in Action
Community-owned renewable energy projects: Sharing the benefits of clean energy production within communities, democratizing access and fostering environmental sustainability.
Cooperatives and worker-owned businesses: Sharing profits and decision-making within companies, leading to greater employee satisfaction and productivity.
Universal basic income initiatives: Providing individuals with a basic safety net, enabling them to pursue their passions and contribute to society in meaningful ways.
Resource sharing platforms: Platforms like carsharing or tool libraries minimizing individual ownership and maximizing resource utilization, fostering a sense of interconnectedness.
Navigating the Shift
Support social impact businesses: Choose businesses that prioritize ethical practices, environmental sustainability, and positive social impact.
Contribute to your community: Volunteer your time, skills, and resources to address local challenges and empower others.
Embrace collaboration: Seek opportunities to work together with others to create solutions for shared problems.
Redefine your own path to prosperity: Focus on activities that bring you personal fulfillment and contribute to the collective good.
Advocate for systemic change: Support policies and initiatives that promote social justice, environmental protection, and equitable distribution of resources.
Pluto in Aquarius offers a unique opportunity to reshape our definition of prosperity and build a future where everyone thrives. By embracing collective well-being, collaboration, and sustainable practices, we can create a world where abundance flows freely, enriching not just individuals, but the entire fabric of society. Remember, true prosperity lies not in what we hoard, but in what we share, and by working together, we can cultivate a future where everyone has the opportunity to flourish.

Trans and Queer Resources for People Living in/near Albuquerque New Mexico, or Looking to Relocate in The American Southwest
I am making this post because this is where I live, and fortunately, there are a lot of queer resources available in the area. I was able to transition because of the resources here, and continue to feel safe and thrive here as a queer person, so I want to pass them on to anyone else who may need them:
General queer community resources:
Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico - Available to all ages- has a wide variety of resources for all trans, gender non conforming and nonbinary people including directing you to providers who will prescribe HRT, access to name changing and gender marker changes, support groups for a wide variety of identities, free food, housing programs for housing challenged and homeless trans people, and much more. Their building is also beautiful on the inside, they have a library of queer literature- I can't recommend them enough, I have been here personally.
LGBTQ Resource Center UNM - An LGBT/queer resource center located on the Las Lomas UNM campus. They provide a wide variety of resources including classes on safe sex, providing resources and support groups for various queer people, giving students access to safe and supportive housing on campus, counseling, HIV testing, food, and much more. They are available to be accessed by students and the general public alike
Albuquerque U21 (Commonbond) - A program and safe space available to any queer person under the age of 21 to socialize with other queer individuals and have a place to discuss queer issues. They also have community events such as DnD nights, cooking classes, book clubs and community speakers who discuss queer issues.
Casa Q - a program and shelter available to queer youth aged 14 - 17 who are at risk of homelessness or are struggling with housing stability, or other issues related to queerness and survival and staying housed.
PFLAG Albuquerque - a group which currently meets on Zoom that discusses queer issues in the community on the whole as well as locally in Albuquerque. A support group as well as a platform for activism and a place to go to talk to and find other queer people and resources.
Therapy, mental health services & other gender affirming care:
Bright Spaces NM - a way for queer patients to search for queer friendly healthcare providers in their area, as well as look for other programs provided by the organization.
Therapists specializing in helping transgender patients in the Albuquerque area - take lists like this with a train of salt, therapists love to market themselves as trans/lgbt friendly, but it's good to have a list to work with
Sage Neuroscience - a mental health care provider specializing a wide variety of conditions and hosting a wide variety of services including queer informed therapy, gender affirming care, medication management, group therapy, substance use help, and more.
High Desert Healing - a mental health care provider with a large number of queer specialized & focused therapists.
Southwest Care - have several providers which specialize in gender affirming care.
UNM Truman Center - a general health provider through the local university hospital system that providers gender affirming care services to a wide variety of local trans people. This clinic is severely overbooked and is used by a ton of local trans people, so try other places first before trying here.
Agora Crisis Center - a crisis center that is informed and safe for queer individuals struggling with mental health who need a safe place to talk about whatever issues they may be facing. They are a a hotline that can be called, and have a large list of local resources on their website as well.
For those of us who already live here, or given all that's happening right now, Texas and many other states are not a safe place for queer people of any stripe, and there are many folks looking to relocate to safer places in the American southwest for queer people and those who are looking to safely medically transition. Please keep in mind that most places in the US are in a housing crisis right now, so always do your research and sort out housing and safe relocation before making any decisions.
This is not a "move to here right now" post but rather a collection of queer resources available to people living here, as well as for people who are looking to relocate to a more queer friendly state in the American southwest. Albuquerque has issues like crime, it is not perfect here, so please be aware that it's not a good idea to just drop what you are doing and relocate to any place for any reason without doing research first. There is no place in the United States that is a "haven", we just happen to have a lot of queer resources here if they are needed.
I will add more resources as I find/think of them.

Read More: Good News From Israel
Tumblr media
Five months after Oct 7, Israel is certainly Up and Running - even stronger than before.  Residents have returned to battered communities in the south and rehabilitation hospitals and charities have successfully been getting the wounded back on their feet. Meanwhile, an Israeli NGO has even been helping get the devastated Ukrainian healthcare system back up and running.   On International Women’s Day, the Israeli news includes the first woman to run an Israeli Air Force base, the women in charge of several Israeli NGOs, and the woman who runs one of Samsung’s Israeli subsidiaries.   Israelis have developed material for putting up buildings and remove greenhouse gases. Meanwhile, up in the air, synchronized Israeli drones extinguish wildfires.   Things are also looking up for Israel’s economy. Employment is up, as is confidence in the Shekel and in the Israeli bond market. Israel’s gas revenues are on the up, and even the avocado harvest is at a record high.  The Israeli foldable electric car now can be seen running around town, and Israeli startups ran some 2,000 business meetings at the Mobile World Congress.   Finally, Israeli women and men have again been climbing up on sporting podiums, many more Jews have been going “up” on Aliyah, and even the Kinneret has been filling up, thanks to benevolence from above.   The photo (TY Sharon) shows competitors gathering for Friday’s Jerusalem Marathon, where a record 40,000 were up and running.

What is the difference between a Marxist leninist
Communist and a socialist
Do you have some beginner books on this. Or articles, their shortcomings, pros and cons, reasons for development.
One thing I do hear often is that "there's no good example of a communist/socialist nation" and they don't understand the economy. And I'd like to learn for myself.
answering this late so i hope you see it
socialism is the stage of society and form of economic relations that is necessary to create communism, weve never had communism before, but there have been a lot of successful although also flawed efforts at building socialism and creating the basis for a socialist society that we should study and learn from. im very much against this idea that 'theres no good examples of socialist countries.' while there are few if any examples of societies with an entirely socialist economy and social relations free from capital, these countries, and socialist revolutions and movements in general, have achieved great things and will continue to develop.
theres not really a difference between communist and socialist, except that a lot of times people who only call themselves socialists and never communists are actually just liberals who want healthcare. but any communist would likely describe themselves as a socialist too.
marxism-leninism is specifically the ideology that became historically significant in the soviet union following lenins death, and was the official ideology of the soviet union, as well as some other socialist movements and countries. its been very influential on socialist movements and revolutions of the 20th century, although was largely adapted to different contexts like in cuba and vietnam. cuba especially in more recent years has reorganized a lot of their political model and their constitution. (also a lot of changes in vietnam and iits relation to capitalist markets i just dont know much about their government today) there are a lot of marxist leninist parties to this day, although no really relevant ones in the united states. i personally dont feel that its a type of political organization and ideology that is the most useful in the contemporary united states, i think people here should probably look more towards maoism and adapt it to the current context
im not really sure of any book that explains exactly these things as ideologies, but i recommend reading history of these socialist movements to see the concrete context these ideologies come from. i cant rn but ill look for some books or smth to recommend to add to this post

The Problem with Rugged Individualism
We have an “individualism” issue. From CEOs to the heroes that populate our screens, to the very methods we use for storytelling (looking at you, Hero’s Journey), the individual is venerated. This is fine and dandy until you realize that it’s directly opposed to more socially focused, cooperative, and collective mindsets, and leads to toxic competition between us. The way we see individualism is a core aspect of neoliberalism. Neoliberalism is an ideology that calls for free markets, free trade, and minimal government intervention in the economy. If you’ve ever heard about “trickle-down” economics, neoliberalism is the house in which that ideology lives. Neoliberalism also makes the blanket assumption that people act rationally, are motivated by self-interest, and make decisions based on what they can get or gain out of the situation. Surprising no one, I think that these individualistic assumptions made under neoliberalism stifle social progress and liberation.
Neoliberalism can lead to social atomization and loneliness. If the focus is on an extreme sense of individual responsibility and self-reliance, there is less room for people to build the capacity to have strong and long-lasting relationships. This lack of capacity also can make it where people put their own needs over the needs of the community. Acting in this way can strain the social bonds that do exist and can leave people feeling like they don’t belong or have meaningful connections.
Economic inequality is also made much worse by individualism under neoliberalism. With a smaller government and lower regulations, there is less money available for social democratic programs. For people who are disenfranchised or fall on hard times, this only widens the gap between the haves and the have-nots. It creates a feedback loop where those with money are able to use that money to further their own interests, through lobbying, investing and more. This mobility is not available for lower classes of people. People who own the means of production have a lot of power over those who have to work.
Oh, by the way, this stuff also affects the environment. As neoliberal profit incentives extract and pollute more than they can return and sequester, people, acting in their (or their venture’s) individual self-interest in the short-term screws over our beautiful planet in the long term. This is how we get into overconsumption (I mean, why does EVERYONE need to own a car??).
Neoliberalism’s encouragement of hierarchy also ties strongly into individualism. In order to uphold the type of society that it proposes, there has to be a rigid pyramidal system. The competitive nature of this brand of individualism will lead to winners and losers, which brings with it a hierarchy around what people believe they deserve. This type of thing perpetrates social hierarchies based on things like race, gender, class, ability, and other identities. When small minorities hold lots of control over industry, different social hierarchies intersect and make extremely difficult living situations for those at or near the bottom.
All of these things orbit around one idea: privatization. By making certain functions of society private, even those which should be available to everyone, like healthcare and education, even our services become individualized. Profit-driven companies for public good services mix about as well as oil and water. This profit focus leads to worse outcomes for the communities, customers, and clients being served. This also reinforces hierarchy; people who can afford more things get a better experience.
Honestly, I’m not sure who thought building an entire society on this individualistic, hierarchical model was a good idea. It leads to a small group of people having ridiculous amounts of power over others and resources. As those people consolidate power, the greater populace is left with fewer and fewer scraps. The only thing this can do is exacerbate socioeconomic problems.

Change it Up Legacy - a new attempt to get me excited about the Sims 4 again
Hello everybody! Today I bring you a new set of legacy rules. A challenge that is mostly a compilation of different challenges I have tried over the years, and the things that the game has given us to make things more challenging or make things easier. Hopefully this will all feel balanced and make for an enjoyable experience! And some of the following rules and goals are inspired by some lovely simmers here in the community, so I challenge you to guess what is related to who, like a little easter egg hunt ;D But of course, please be respectful when you do so. I do not intend to copy anyone, and the only people that own the features used in this challenge are the game devs that came up with the idea and implemented them into the game.
*THIS CHALLENGE IS WRITTEN ASSUMING THAT YOU HAVE MOST OR ALL THE PACKS. THIS IS YOUR OFFICIAL NOTICE OF THAT FACT, SO PLEASE DO NOT BE UPSET THAT I AM USING SO MANY DIFFERENT PACK FEATURES! I AM SORRY!!!*
Now, onto the challenge!
UNIVERSAL RULES:
You may use whatever mods you want, as long as you play fairly and try to avoid cheating as much as possible. I personally use UI Cheats a lot to fix my sims’ needs whenever I do not have the things needed to fix said needs, or I am simply out of patience, so that is perfectly allowed here 👌 it would be hipocritical of me to forbid that here.
If a generation allows you to start with a house you may use money cheats to build that house, if needed. For example, of the items you need for your sims’ survival are expensive due to pack restrictions, you are allowed to cheat money in to have those items if you want. HOWEVER, if the generation specifically mentions that you must start with nothing, then the only money cheat you are allowed to use is one to remove money.
Even if a generation specifies a number of offspring, you may have at least 1 precautionary heir, especially if you have mods that can cause sudden sim death, like healthcare redux with the deadly deseases package.
*NEW* This challenge will also feature building packs restrictions of my own. These restrictions will be written down assuming that the person reading has most or all packs. I know that is not always the case, and if you do not have the packs mentioned then that is okay. Play with what you have, or you can even view the pack restrictions as merely suggestions. Basegame is ALWAYS implied as one of the Restrictions. I’m not going to force you to build without basegame lol
Also regarding the building pack restrictions: decorations, like clutter items, and skill building items from other packs are not restricted. Only the main furniture in a sim’s home falls under the pack restrictions. *IT ALSO DOES NOT APPLY TO CAREER REWARDS*
Tumblr media
Gen 1 - The Consumer
(Building pack restrictions: City Living, Get to Work, Dream Home Decorator, High School Years)
Some may call you a shoppaholic, you’d rather call yourself a seasoned consumer! You know the best places to shop for clothes, furniture, decor, even food and ingredients! But you still thought that your own clients had better things than you, and that fact annoyed you greatly...
Aspiration: Mansion Baron or Perfectly Prestine (Bust the Dust)
Suggested Traits (you do not need to use these): Jealous, Kleptomaniac, Materialistic
Skills (reach at least level 5): Photography and Charisma
Career: Dream Home Decorator or Have your own Retail Store
Goals:
Start with an empty lot and no money. You may scavange for collectibles and other things, AND get a job, but you must start with no physical belongings. (If you really want to, you can start with 1 small tent or 1 sleeping bag, that come with Outdoor Retreat and Growing Together respectively.)
Have at least 5000 simolleons before you build your own house. You may upgrade and renovate this later once you have more money, of course.
Use the Retail Stores, Flea Market, and ThriftTea stores to buy clothes and furniture for your home. If you do not have access to these, you may choose to Swipe objects from homes and community lots instead. (If you have Get Together you may for a club with just your sim and have the ‘Swipe Objects’ club activity. This allowed you to swipe when a club gathering is active, even if you do not have the kleptomaniac trait or the skill needed to swipe objects.)
*Specifics for previous point* When Thrifting clothes with HSY you may either choose to put on and take off the outfit you bought every time, or you may recreate that outfit in create a sim, as long as you keep the physical in game inventory object version of the outfit. You may not sell it unless you also remove the outfit from your sim in CAS.
If you go with being a Home Decorator as your career, you must ‘steal’ at least one object from your client’s homes. Using backspace on an object instead of deleting it will put that object in YOUR household inventory, and you may use it to furnish your own house. You cannot sell these items for money.
However, if you choose to have your own Retail Store, you must instead get to know your customers and swipe furniture and items from their homes.
You may buy furniture from the catalog once you have a home that is worth at least 20K AND has the following rooms/things: A designated kitchen, a seperate full bathroom, a seperate proper bedroom with a double bed, a living room with a TV and a standing or wall bookshelf, fully floored and wallpapered interior and exterior. (Once you have all of these things you may replace them with more aesthetic versions of the same items, as long as they are not more expensive than the original.)
You may marry and/or have children with whichever sim you wish, there are no restrictions on that here. However, you must have more than 1 child, not counting with precautionary heirs if you wish to have them. Once you have children you must strive to complete the Voidcritters Collection. Your children want expensive game cards, and who are you to say no to that? (if you have Kids Room Stuff, if not that is okay and you can skip this goal or choose a different collection to complete. And there are mods that let older sims play Voidcritters as well.)
The next heir must be the eldest child. Gender assigned at birth does not matter.
Tumblr media
Gen 2 - The Crafter
(Building pack restrictions: Eco Lifestyle, Outdoor Retreat, Werewolves, Jungle Adventure)
You and your siblings’ physical needs were always met. A bed to sleep on, food on the table, toys to play with, etc. Everything was bought, everything was outsourced. But what would happen if it wasn’t? What if you took it uppon yourself to fullfil those same needs with things made by your own two hands? Well, there is only one way to find out!
(This generation can get pretty tiring, specially with the leveling up of skills to make items, so please take breaks whenever you start feeling frustrated as a player!)
Aspiration: Master Maker (Eco Lifestyle) or Lord/Lady or the Knits (Nifty Knitting)  or Painter Extraordinaire
Suggested Traits: Maker, Perfectionist, Freegan
Skills: Handiness, Fabrication, and/or Painting
Career: Odd Jobs or Freelancer (any branch)
Goals:
Start this generation with a small, cabin-like house. Perhaps even a shed, for storytelling ideas.
Have a sibling move in with you early on for at least 1 sim year. You may not shorten the calender time to make this go faster.
Woodwork, Fabricate, or Knit most of the decor and furniture items in your home, making at LEAST 1 item per sim day. Any item.
You knew your parent stole many things from others, so instead you want to give back to the community around you. Give handmade gifts to your friends, or even to strangers if you’d like. These gifts can even be just a flower if you have a home garden (though it is not mandatory to have one).
You may renovate/upgrade your home each time you have at least 6k in reserve, though of course it is recommended that you have more so that you don’t become broke after every renovation. (Alternatively, each 6k you have in reserve equals 1 medium room in your house, so if you had 12k you could build 2 rooms.)
You may choose to buy items from the catalog if they are things that you cannot craft yourself, or that you cannot craft YET. However, if it is something you are able to craft at a later date, you must substitute the bought item with the crafted item. The only exception to this is wall decorations, which you cannot buy from the catalogue at all, and must always paint or photograph yourself.
If you have Growing Together, or Wonderful/Wicked Whims, or the Chemistry System Mod, you must at least date a sim you have Bad/Terrible Compatibility with or a sim that you find Very/Extremely Unattractive. You can choose your own reason why this relationship came to be, be it good or bad reasons.
You must either complete the Omiscan Treasure Collection (Jungle Adventure), the Ancient Omiscan Artifacts Collection (Jungle Adventure), or the Simmie Capsule Collection (Snowy Escape, chance of death). Pick only 1 collection to complete and display all the items in your home.
The next heir must be the youngest offspring regardless of gender at birth. If you have twins or triplets as the youngest you must either make a poll or spin a wheel to choose the heir.
Tumblr media
Gen 3 - The Baker
(Building Pack Restriction: Cottage Living, Cool Kitchen Stuff, Dine Out, Tiny Living)
You didn’t have many strong opinions on how to live your life, at least not when it came to material goods. Your grandparent was a shopping fiend, your parent practically build your childhood home with their own hands, but you? You just wanted any roof over your head and some good food on the table. That should be enough, right?
Aspiration: Master Chef or City Native (City Living)
Suggested Traits: Lazy, Foodie OR Glutton (they are opposite traits), Squeamish
Skills: Cooking, Gourmet Cooking, and/or Baking
Career: Culinary (one aspiration requires it) and/or Own a Restaurant (Dine Out, can get tiring and annoying) and/or Food Critic (City Living)
Goals:
Start this generation in a tiny home, bonus awesome points if the house looks unfinished until you have enough money to fully renovate it from top to bottom.
You may open your own restaurant, if you wish, and you can try to have your own restaurant while you work in the Culinary career or the Critic career if you want to. It is time consuming and stressful, but it technically can be done.
If you choose the City Native aspiration you must learn all the city recipes. This is technically not an in game collection, but I suggest you treat it as such and keep track of the kinds of food you learn.
Focus on ‘cooking’ baked goods. In the ‘Cook’ and ‘Gourmet Cooking’ sections there are many cakes and other baked goods to choose from, especially with Cottage Living. Anything that is artificially sweet or needs to be baked counts for this goal.
Cook as many emotional recipes as you can. Although I do not know if there is a real list of these, the emotional recipes I know are as follows: Flirty Heart Cookies (flirty), High Energy Protein Platter (energized), Silly Gummy Bear Pancakes (playful), Angry Flaming Spaghetti (angry).
Expand your house only vertically. As in adding floors only above or below the existing house floors. Take note that the game only allows you to go 4 floors up and 4 floors down. You may make the floors above and bellow bigger than the previous floor, but after you are done building it you are not allowed to add new rooms to the same level, and instead must make a new level.
Whichever career you choose you must never choose to Work Hard. You can only choose to either work normally, Slack Off, or choose any other interactions besides Work Hard. Additionally, you may ignore any daily tasks the career gives you and focus only on promotion tasks. This will make getting up in the career a bit harder, so you may choose to change or ignore this goal if it becomes too annoying or time consuming.
Complete the Postcard Collection (possible via Pen Pal interaction on computers) and fall in love with your pen pal. Although, the Pen Pal system doesn’t generate an actual sim to be your pen pal, so you will have to either make your own sim, grab a sim off the gallery, or grab a random townie, to fill that role. And it is love at first sight <3
The next heir is a middle child. If your sim did not have more than two children then your favorite is the next heir.
Tumblr media
Gen 4 - The Gardener
(Building Pack Restrictions: My Wedding Stories, Seasons, Romantic Garden Stuff, Laundry Day Stuff)
The mere concept of love makes you feel sick, and pregnancy even more so. You’re happy for others that find love and start families, but you’d rather not have that for yourself. The only life you want to nurture is your plants’ lives, but perhaps fate has some slightly different plans for you.
Aspiration: Renaissance Sim or The Curator
Suggested Traits: Unflirty, Vegetarian, Hates Children OR Loner
Skills: Gardening, Guitar and Mixology
Career: Conservationist (Island Living)
Goals:
Start with nothing except 2 seed packets and the Wishing Well. These seed packets can be seasonal seeds if you have Seasons.
Prioritize your garden over your own needs, having a fully decorated enclosed garden before a fully built house. You may buy tents and ‘pee bushes’ until you have enough money to build a fully functional house.
Pretend that any decorative plants in your home were grown by your sim by making a Flower Arrangement before buying a new plant from the catalog. You may sell the Arrangement after buying the decorative plant, but you must always make the arrangements with flowers you grew yourself.
Make wishes at the Wishing Well at least once a week. You can make a wish every day, and there are many wishes to choose from, so have fun deciding what to wish for and dealing with the results! (There are many outcomes for these wishes, and the most likely outcome is determined by how the face on the wishing well looks in the moment)
Your house must be as beautiful as your garden, no matter the price. You must decorate your home further every time you have the money to do so, even if it leaves back at very few simolleons.
If you have Eco Lifestyle spend as much free time as you can in Community Gardens, a type of Community Space that came with the pack. You are allowed to Shift-Click on the Neighbourhood Projects board to instantly inact the Community Space projects.
Never marry, but one day ‘accidentally’ wish for a child at the Wishing Well. You can choose wether this generation’s sim changes their views on children and becomes a loving parent, or ends up becoming a mostly absent parent with a grudge against the next generation. (The second option is obviously horrible, and neglect is no joke, but it could be an interesting storytelling point.)
Complete the Holiday Cracker Plushie Collection or the Snowglobe Collection, your choice.
No matter what, the next generation is the Wishing Well child, regardless of what child the Well gave you. If you got multiple children from the wishing well, the next heir is the one with either the worst traits or the worst relationship with the parent.
Tumblr media
Gen 5 - The Ghost
(Building pack restrictions: Vampires, Realm of Magic, Paranormal Stuff, Strangerville)
You were never really human. Sure, you look it, but you spawned out of a magic wishing well! Or so your parent told you. And you believe it, cause what else would you believe? However, this lead you to feeling a bit lost. If you’re not a human then what’s stopping you from doing things humans won’t do? What’s stopping you from just disappearing, or going to find a fantasy land, or go live in some ooky spooky mansion? That’s right, nothing!
Aspiration: Jungle Explorer (Jungle Adventure)
Suggested Traits: Non-Committal, Self-Assured, Over-Achiever
Skills: Vampire Lore, Selvadoradian Culture, Medium
Career: Write and publish books for royalties. You may also sell collectibles if needed
Goals:
Move into one of the game pack occult worlds. If none are available to you then you can move into any world you wish. You are allowed to have a house to start off with but it must not exceed 20k in value.
Explore the Selvadoradian Temple at least once. It’s an ancient, almost haunted temple, who doesn’t like that??
Be friends with at least 1 sim from each occult type. If these are not available to you, you can pretend using mods and editing sims in the world to look more non-human.
You may have an occult child if you wish. though it is not obligatory.
Have a bookshelf filled with copies of your own books. After you sell the books your sim writes they are lost forever, so you have to create a copy of them before publishing them!
Visit at least 1 secret world. There are 5 mystical secret worlds/lots in the sims 4: Forgotten Grotto (Basegame), Sylvan Glade (Basegame), The Deep Woods (Outdoor Retreat), Planet Sixam (Get to Work), and The Magic Realm (Realm of Magic). Technically the Mt. Komorebi Upper Mountain is also a ‘secret lot’ but that does not count for this goal.
Optional and something I just think would be interesting in game: Date most occult sims you encounter, but then ‘ghost’ them without breaking up with them when you find someone else or you feel like changing things up.
Complete the Alien Collection (Get to Work) or the Crystals Collection (Basegame). Your choice.
The next heir must NOT be an occult, and they can be adopted if needed.
Tumblr media
Gen 6 - The 'Physician’
(Building pack restriction: Spa Day, Decor to the Max, Discover University, Movie Hangout Stuff)
The limitations and capabilities of the sim body always fascinated you. Medicine and Science go hand in hand, so why not try your hand at both? Some might call your methods ‘creepy’ or ‘immoral’ or even ‘mad’, but you’re just doing what the others are scared to do! You’re asking the real life questions here, and getting the answers your way!
Aspiration: Body Builder or Inner Peace (Spa Day)
Suggested Traits: Erratic, Genius, Loyal
Skills: Fitness, Logic, Wellness
Career: Scientist or Doctor (though I recommend Scientist for more fun)
Goals:
Have 2 college degrees: Biology and Physics. I HEAVELY suggest you get the shorter college degrees mod to achieve this, or you can play with aging off and finish the degrees as they are in the vanilla game.
Focus on experimenting on sims. This is more easily achievable in the Scientist career of course, where you can give serums to sims, use the FreezeRay and upgraded FreezeRay features on sims, eventually Clone Sims, etc. In the Doctor career you can gather dnd samples and run series of tests on your patients; although running tests on sims that don’t need them may cause you to be demoted, but it’s all in the name of sim science!
Play pranks on your friends and roommates (if you have any while in university). Interactions like ‘Trick with hand buzzer’, ‘Slap em Silly’, ‘Scare’, ‘Claim to be Criminal Mastermind’, ‘Flash Crazy Eyes’, are all applicable for this goal. You may also choose to play with other sims’ emotions by treating them completely different every time you meet up with them; be friendly one time, then suddently start yelling and arguing with them, flirt with them next time, etc. Even socializing can be full of experiments :)
You may date whoever you want in this generation, even marry someone if you’d like, but you can never truly break up or divorce anyone. They must disappear under mysterious circumstances (And maybe, by coincidence, you acquire a new frog at the same time... just saying...hehehe)
Have multiple enemies and a Bad or Horrible Reputation (comes with Get Famous). People don’t agree with your methods, but you don’t really care. Your creative visions make sense to you, and that is all that matters.
Try to visit Spas and Gyms in your free time. You don’t need your body to be the pinacle of perfection, but it’s always nice to get a little pampered or blow off some steam!
Complete the Microscope Prints Collection or the Frogs Collection. Breeding frogs can be a part of your science too!
If you go into the Scientist Career the next heir is a clone of your sim (you may age down the clone and raise them as your child, i believe this is possible with cas.fulleditmode. But if not, then only make the clone once you’ve finished the rest of the goals). If you chose the Doctor career the next heir is a ‘Science Baby’, an option that was added to basegame in a free update alongside the infants. (You can pretend your sim stole a dna sample from one of their patients to create this baby, if you’d like.)
Tumblr media
Gen 7 - The Socializer
(Building Pack Restrictions: Get Together, Backyard Stuff, Perfect Patio Stuff, Fitness Stuff)
Your parent was... Questionable at best. Their ideals always rubbed you the wrong way, but you just tried to ignore it and focus on your own path. But you ended up with some curious interests yourself, though they are definitely not as disturbing as your parent’s!
Aspiration: Friend of the World, Neighbourhood Confidant, or Angling Ace
Suggested Traits: Loves The Outdoors, Outgoing, Slob
Skills: Dancing, Singing, Fishing
Career: Politician (City Living) or Law (Discover University)
Goals:
You are allowed to start anywhere, but you can only take half of your parent’s money with you when you move out.
Don’t go into a career just yet. Instead, spend at least half of your Young Adulthood focusing on your skills and building a social group. You can make clubs where the club activities are the skills you need to level up if it helps.
Have a secret room in your home where you put up Mounted Fish you catch. This room must be locked to everyone but your sim and you must have at least 2 of the same fish before mounting one of them.
Once you actually go into a career, work super hard and do as much as you can to get promoted fast. Things that help with promotions include finishing daily tasks, going to work in a good mood, and being friends with your coworkers. So have fun!
Have a fling with your Boss, unless you are at the top of your career at this moment or there is no one at a higher level than you. If that happens you can have a fling with any coworker you want. It does not have to turn into anything serious, but it can if you want it to.
Have a fun backyard decked out for parties and friend gatherings, and also lots of space for your future children to play in. A nice place to come sit and relax after stressful days at work!
Go fishing at least once in every single world that has water. You do not need to fish in every fishing spot, that would be a bit too much, but you can if you want to!
Complete the Fish Collection. Some packs added more and more fish to this, but you only need to finish the basegame fish one. You may try to complete the whole thing if you wish, but only the basegame ones are strictly mandatory.
The next heir must have an opposite trait to this generation’s sim. Birth order or gender at birth does not matter.
Tumblr media
Gen 8 - The Imposter
(Building Pack Restrictions: Cats and Dogs, Vintage Glamour Stuff, Bowling Night Stuff, Growing Together)
Fighting for what’s right and helping those who can’t fight for themselves, that’s the morals you grew up with. But what if you didn’t? What if you didn’t want to do that? What if you wanted to watch the world burn? The flames would be so beautiful, don’t you think? But nobody can suspect this. We must keep up the appearance of good morality, or else...
Aspiration: Chief of Mischief or Villainous Valentine
Suggested Traits: Evil, and whatever traits are opposite to their parent’s traits
Skills: Mischief, Acting, Research and Debate
Career: Detective (Get to Work, Special Agent Branch)
Goals:
In the Detective Career you must purposefully befriend the criminals you encounter, both at the station and the ones you arrest yourself. You are a croocked cop after all, this is the best place to network with petty criminals.
Fall in love and have a child with one of the inmates early on in your career. This child will not be the heir, but once they reach childhood they must have the Kleptomaniac trait and perform small robberies for you. (You may once again use the club activity ‘cheat’ to swipe objects regardless of skill level). You can either sell the items they steal or have them on display in your home.
Constantly debate your friends and coworkers. I am unsure if you can do this without the debate podium, but if you can’t then you can cheat to place one in the police station using the bb.enablefreebuild cheat. You may also have one at your home if you’d like.
Use other sims for your advantage, being friends with people you can steal from, ask for loans from, marry to take their money and possessions, etc.
Always play ‘Bad Cop’ when interrogating a sim you’ve arrested. In the Interrogation mini game there are three categories you can choose from: Good Cop, Bad Cop, Evidence. You cannot use Good Cop interactions and may only use Evidence actions if the Bad Cop ones are getting you nowhere.
If you have mods that allow your sim to commit crimes, go ahead and commit some small ones while you’re not at work. However, this is obviously not necessary.
Eventually fall in love with another detective and marry them, but they can never know of your horrible actions and connections. And if they do, well, I’ll let you decide how to deal with that... [ominous]
Complete the Feathers Collection (Cats and Dogs, pet needed I believe) or the Minerals Collection.
The next heir is the child of the detective you fall in love with.
Tumblr media
Gen 9 - The Big Cheese
(Building Pack Restrictions: Parenthood, Spooky Stuff, Toddler Stuff, Kids Room Stuff)
People always took life so seriously around you, why not just relax and do what makes you happy? Life is both short and long, so there is no reason why you should spend it doing something you hate. Just live your dreams! Dress like 13 year old you wanted to dress! Go after your dream job even if other think it’s silly! Go for it!!
Aspiration: Grilled Cheese (secret aspiration unlocked by eating 3 grilled cheeses consecutively)
Suggested traits: Geek, Goofball, Childish
Skills: Rocket Science, Bowling, Juice Fizzing
Career: Part Time Jobs and selling crafted or found items
Goals:
You may start wherever you want, but I’d recommend having an ‘RV’ as your home. You must live in at least 5 different worlds during this generation, and having a home that looks like an RV can help with the immersion that your sim travels to these locations instead of constantly buying new houses.
Have a different part time job every time you move, and you can even be Self-Employed if you wish.
Never have your partners move in with you, or you move in with your partners, and you may only marry someone if they have a real home. So sims that are ‘Not In World’ do not count as marriage candidates unless they later move in somewhere with Neighbourhood Stories.
You are not allowed to make your RV bigger unless you completely build a new one that looks different from the original. However, you are allowed to have a front/back yard as big or small as you’d like.
I suggest spending most of your time on community lots that have the skillbuilding items you need instead of having them at your home lot, like Maker Spaces for juice fizzing or Geekcon for rocket science, but you may have those items on your lot anyway if you wish.
You may move in and have children with a partner once you’ve married them (see point 3). You may choose between living in your RV all together or moving into your partner’s house. You can keep your part time job/self employment, but now you are allowed to also be a stay at home parent/partner or get a full time job, your choice.
Have the most loving relationship with your children and spouse, always performing positive interactions with them. You are happy here, and your goal of living your life to the fullest on your own terms has been fulfilled.
Complete the Magic Beans Collection and become a plant sim. There are mods that make this change permanent but they are not needed unless you want that outcome.
The next heir must be part of a set of triplets or more. (Having more than 3 babies at once can be done with mods)
Tumblr media
Gen 10 - The Engineer
(Building Pack Restrictions: Moschino Stuff, Snowy Escape, Get Famous, Kits)
Digging around in some old family files you discovered letters and notebooks written by your Great Great Grandparent: A doctor-scientist that performed unethical experiments on other people to test the limits of sim bodies. That revelation was... enlightening. And it had the oposite effect on you than what most people would expect. You rejected the weakness and limitations of sim bodies, so you dedicated yourself to machines, your one true love.
Aspiration: Bestselling Author
Suggested Traits: Ambitious, Creative, Geek
Skills: Robotics, Programming, Video Games
Career: Engineer (Discover University) or Tech Guru
Goals:
Live with your siblings during the Young Adult life stage. You may move them out once they all age up, or have the heir move out on their own instead.
Have a basement where all your Robotics and Programming equipment is stored. It doesn’t have to be creepy or anything, but it can be if you wish.
You may look for romantic love if you wish, but it is not mandatory for this generation. Robots and mechanisms are more important to you after all.
Write books dedicated to your inventions and engineering discoveries, using these for added royalties each day.
Have very little real friends and always go out partying by yourself whenever you feel lonely/the social need is too low.
Give Robotics, Programming, and Video Gaming classes at the Universities. You are able to do this once you have a higher skill level, travelling to one of the universities, and clicking on the buildings until you find the ‘Give guest lecture’ interaction. This will also give you some money.
Make multiple robots and at least 1 Servo in your lifetime, though you may create more if you wish. (I will allow you to Shift+Click on the Robotics Station to ‘Spawn Crafting Supplies’, as they are a PAIN to make by hand. You may only do this for Servos)
Complete the My Sims Trophies Collection and have them on display in your home, color coordenated in rainbow order.
By going into cas.fulleditmode you can change a Servo’s family relationship with the other sims in the household. Your servos are your children, and although this is the last generation if you wish to play it again with the same family or merge this challenge with another one you may start with one of the Servos. I believe there are cheats and mods to either humanize the Servo or give them more depth, but I will leave that decision up to you.
Tumblr media
And that concludes the Change it Up Legacy Challenge!
Damn, even just writting this was a challenge and a half, I’m exhausted... I ran out of steam in the last few generations, so I hope they are not too disappointing. Hopefully I will have the time and energy to play this soon, but I am currently somewhat looking for jobs at the moment so I might be taking a bit of a longer hiatus. Still!! I wanted to give you all this to try out and have fun with. You can stop at any time, you don’t need to finish it all in one sitting, and the most important thing is to have fun!
Happy Simming!!!

Join The GreenHorizon Movement!
For a more Solarpunk future
Hey everyone! This is an introduction to GreenHorizon, a movement of necessity for making our world beautiful, green, kind, safe and thriving for all of us.
You would be shocked how many people get extremely angry at me for even suggesting this as a possibility. In our current world, having hope is a radical thing.
The situation in the world now, is so dire there is no ignoring it anymore. Even for me; and I come from relative privilege, to be transparent with you. I'm feeling increasingly worried in very real terms. We have to do this now. I for one can't live with myself if I don't at least try. I want to be able to say I did everything I could to help save us. To save all life on this beautiful unique planet, that might be the only one of its kind.
Is this overconfident and a bit crazy? Maybe. Do we care? No lol. Someone has to try. Someone has to make a first real iteration of a possible and tangible solution. It might as well be us. I hope you'll join. We're going to need your help.
This is an amalgamation of several years of independent interest and study of many different subjects relating to sustainability, ecology, anthropology, history and social justice etc. The authors and creators whose work and content I have studied and been inspired by will be listed in the full guide, which will be out as soon as possible. I have also been inspired by many of you here on tumblr, in the solarpunk sphere.
Here's what the movement stands for:
Permaculture: We advocate for permaculture through food forests and chinampas etc. where nature's symbiotic relationships provide abundance as they always have. It's much more resilient, more productive and is a long term gift for future generations.
Human Rights: We stand firmly behind the advancement of women, children, LGBT+, neurodivergent and disabled people's etc rights. Recognising our integral roles in building a just and equitable society with accommodations to make our lives easier. Also, all healthcare, education, food, water and housing would be free. These are all necessary for human life and should never have been monetised to begin with.
Animal Rights: Protecting the rights of our fellow beings and promoting a world where animals and their habitats are respected and unviolated through rewilding, restoration and ranger drone patrols, as well as strongly scaling down, if not ending all industrial animal agriculture.
Mutual Aid: Embracing a mutual aid/gifting/volunteering based society/culture. We aim to dismantle the out dated notions of profit motive, commerce, currency and the stock market. Fostering a spirit of generosity, solidarity and cooperation instead. Living by the hippocratic oath in a sense.
Decentralized Governing: The government would be small, direct democratically elected and only in charge of defence of the nation from outside forces and representation on the world stage etc. The nation (UK in my case) would be a union of tribes where the majority of decisions would be based on local community consensus, the principles of this movement and doing minimum harm. You would belong to three tribes in a sense. Your local, your city and your national (country) tribe. All humans used to live in tribes, so this will feel like coming home. And no, it won't be like cults. There won't be any one leader of the tribes, they won't be competitive, and members can come and go as they please, and join another tribe should they wish etc.
Sustainable Transportation: We advocate for the gradual shift from car-culture to efficient and eco-friendly solutions such as walking, trains and bicycles, greatly reducing our environmental and noise pollution. Walking and biking for local, trains for longer distances. We would still have planes for international travel, which would be developed with time to be zero emission. Some cars would be used to transport things within cities, during night time where there are much fewer pedestrians and bikes. Also in the countryside while new train lines and bike highways are being built. There won't be trams and buses if it's up to me though, sorry. Because they require a lot of maintenance, materials, make a lot of noise, are virus spreading hotspots, and are a risk to bike and pedestrian safety. Disabled people can get around via electric special bikes, electric wheelchairs and passenger bike taxis.
Community Building: Creating completely walkable neighbourhoods with tribes/communities of about 100 people each. Houses built of durable, natural, sustainable materials suited to the given climate, surrounded by nature, with communal cooking and shared tasks, many of which we would be automated with time and development. All amenities within easy walking distance. Where people check in on and look out for each other, with the added help from mediators. We are not meant to live among strangers. You can also join a different tribe at any time if you wish, you are not tied down in any way. You can also be a member of multiple tribes, if you like to be more nomadic.
Secular spirituality: Reconnecting with our need for narrative and meaning in our lives but without the dogma. Creating culture, rituals, ceremonies and celebrations of gratitude to nature and each other. Open to anyone, including people of other faiths. I will be writing a separate work on this.
Healing Humanity: It is so clear that the meaning of a human life is to do all the things that make a human life unique and worth living ie. spending time with friends and loved ones, pursuing something you’re truly passionate about, creating art, crafting, making music, reading, writing and telling stories, travelling, swimming, spending time in nature witnessing and being one with the sublime, playing with your kids, playing with your pets, having picnics, laughing so hard your face hurts, gardening, drinking tea/coffee, dressing up nice, getting a little drunk, dancing, singing and celebrating, commemorating, making love, doing a sport, learning a new language, building something, stargazing, falling in love, studying something just for the love of the subject, being part of a caring group of people and simply resting as much as your body truly needs. To experience this uniquely beautiful and strange world as a human being is actually a big privilege. Let's make it feel like so again.
All of this and much more will be covered in more detail in the guide/manifesto that will be published soon.
Thanks to @andrew-ism for providing a lot of inspiration for this.
Hit follow, reblog, share and stay tuned for more plans, ideas, stories, creations and other cool things as we work together to make the world as beautiful and thriving as it was always meant to be.
We will be opening to volunteers in the new year. Send us a dm if you're interested.
With much love and much hope
Ava

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
October 29, 2023
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
OCT 30, 2023
On October 29, 1929, the U.S. stock market crashed. It had been rocked five days before, when heavy trading early in the day drove it down, but leading bankers had seen the mounting crisis and moved in to stabilize the markets before the end of the day. October 24 left small investors broken but the system intact. On Monday, October 28, the market slid again, with a key industrial average dropping 49 points.
And then, on October 29, the crisis hit. When the gong in the great hall of the New York Stock Exchange hit at ten o’clock, the market opened with heavy trading, all of it downward. When the ticker tape finally showed the day’s transactions, two and a half hours later, it documented that more than 16 million shares had changed hands and the industrial average had dropped another 43 points.
Black Tuesday was the beginning of the end. The market continued to drop. By November the industrial average stood at half of what it had been two months before. By 1932, manufacturing output was less than it had been in 1913; foreign trade plummeted from $10 billion to $3 billion in the three years after 1929, and agricultural prices fell by more than half. By 1932 a million people in New York City were out of work; by 1933, thirteen million people—one person of every four in the labor force—were unemployed. Unable to pay rent or mortgages, people lived in shelters made of packing boxes.
While the administration of Republican president Herbert Hoover preached that Americans could combat the Depression with thrift, morality, and individualism, voters looked carefully at the businessmen who only years before had seemed to be pillars of society and saw they had plundered ordinary Americans. The business boom of the 1920s had increased worker productivity by about 43%, but wages did not rise. Those profits, along with tax cuts and stock market dividends, meant that wealth moved upward: in 1929, 5% of the population received one third of the nation’s income.
In 1932, nearly 58% of voters turned to Democratic president Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who promised them a “New Deal”: a government that would work for everyone, not just for the wealthy and well connected.
As soon as Roosevelt was in office, Democrats began to pass laws protecting workers’ rights, providing government jobs, regulating business and banking, and beginning to chip away at the racial segregation of the American South. New Deal policies employed more than 8.5 million people, built more than 650,000 miles of highways, built or repaired more than 120,000 bridges, and put up more than 125,000 buildings. They regulated banking and the stock market and gave workers the right to bargain collectively. They established minimum wages and maximum hours for work. They provided a basic social safety net and regulated food and drug safety.
When he took office in 1953, Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower built on this system, adding to the nation’s infrastructure with the Federal-Aid Highway Act, which provided $25 billion to build 41,000 miles of highway across the country; adding the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare to the government and calling for a national healthcare system; and nominating former Republican governor of California Earl Warren as chief justice of the Supreme Court to protect civil rights. Eisenhower also insisted on the vital importance of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to stop the Soviet Union from spreading communism throughout Europe.
Eisenhower called his vision “a middle way between untrammeled freedom of the individual and the demands of the welfare of the whole Nation.” The system worked: between 1945 and 1960 the nation’s gross national product (GNP) jumped by 250%, from $200 billion to $500 billion.
But while the vast majority of Americans of both parties liked the new system that had helped the nation to recover from the Depression and to equip the Allies to win World War II, a group of Republican businessmen and their libertarian allies at places like the National Association of Manufacturers insisted that the system proved both parties had been corrupted by communism. They inundated newspapers, radio, and magazines with the message that the government must stay out of the economy to return the nation to the policies of the 1920s.
Their position got little traction until the Supreme Court’s 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision declaring segregation in public schools unconstitutional. That decision enabled them to divide the American people by insisting that the popular new government simply redistributed tax dollars from hardworking white taxpayers to undeserving minorities.
A promise to cut the taxes that funded social services and the business regulations they insisted hampered business growth fueled the election of Ronald Reagan for president in 1980. But by 1986 administration officials recognized that tax cuts that were driving the deficit up despite dramatic cuts to social services were so unpopular that they needed footsoldiers to back businessmen. So, Reagan backed the creation of an organization that brought together big businessmen, evangelical Christians, and social conservatives behind his agenda. “Traditional Republican business groups can provide the resources,” leader of Americans for Tax Reform Grover Norquist explained, “but these groups can provide the votes.”
By 1989, Norquist’s friend Ralph Reed turned evangelical Christians into a permanent political pressure group. The Christian Coalition rallied evangelicals behind the Republican Party, calling for the dismantling of the post–World War II government services and protections for civil rights—including abortion—they disliked.
As Republicans could reliably turn out religious voters over abortion, that evangelical base has become more and more important to the Republican Party. Now it has put one of its own in the House Speaker’s chair, just two places from the presidency. On October 25, after three weeks of being unable to unite behind a speaker after extremists tossed out Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), the Republican conference coalesced behind Representative Mike Johnson (R-LA) in part because he was obscure enough to have avoided scrutiny.
Since then, his past has been unearthed, showing interviews in which he asserted that we do not live in a democracy but in a “Biblical republic.” He told a Fox News Channel interviewer that to discover his worldview, one simply had to “go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it. That’s my worldview.”
Johnson is staunchly against abortion rights and gay rights, including same-sex marriage, and says that immigration is “the true existential threat to the country.” In a 2016 sermon he warned that the 1960s and 1970s undermined “the foundations of religion and morality in the U.S.” and that attempts to address climate change, for example, are an attempt to destroy capitalism.
Like other adherents of Christian nationalism, Johnson appears to reject the central premise of democracy: that we have a right to be treated equally before the law. And while his wife, Kelly, noted last year on a podcast that only about 4% of Americans “still adhere to a Biblical worldview,” they appear to reject the idea we have the right to a say in our government. In 2021, Johnson was a key player in the congressional attempt to overturn the lawful results of the 2020 presidential election.
In his rejection of democracy, Johnson echoes authoritarian leaders like Russia’s Vladimir Putin and Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, both of whom have the loyal support of America’s far right. Such leaders claim that the multiculturalism at the heart of democracy ruins nations. The welcoming of various races and ethnicities through immigration or affirmative action undermines national purity, they say, while the equality of LGBTQ+ individuals and women undermines morality. Johnson has direct ties to these regimes: his 2018 campaign accepted money from a group of Russian nationals, and he has said he does not support additional funding for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
The rejection of democracy in favor of Christian authoritarianism at the highest levels of our government is an astonishing outcome of the attempt to prevent another Great Depression by creating a government that worked for ordinary Americans rather than a few wealthy men.
But here we are.
After Johnson’s election as speaker, extremist Republican Matt Gaetz of Florida spelled out what it meant for the party…and for the country: “MAGA is ascendant,” Gaetz told former Trump advisor Steve Bannon, “and if you don’t think that moving from Kevin McCarthy to MAGA Mike Johnson shows the ascendance of this movement, and where the power of the Republican Party truly lies, then you’re not paying attention.”

BBU Community Days: Details (Day 7)
Prompt: What's a detail of BBU worldbuilding you always wanted to dive into? (Newly emerging professions, legal aspects, pet fashion, economic side effects, societal aspects, facility workplace ethic, history, safehouse organisation, deconditioning…) Do it now, and ramble a bit!
One topic I love to muse about in the BBU is the legal aspects of it. In the spectrum from those ‘verses that are full on in the dystopian, corporations-control-everything mode, to just like our world with a little added capitalism, I am more on the latter side. WRU is not above the law, but the law is made to make their business possible.
I like to think about balancing the interests of WRU and the society as a whole (not so much the individuals, because as long as they don’t have money, they don’t matter much here), and so I find myself wondering about regulation of labor and social affairs such as health and retirement.
LABOR
Pets / Boxies are only permitted for a very narrow field in my ‘verse. And that’s a household. Romantics, Platonics, Domestics, Guard Dogs, all need to belong to one individual and work in that person’s household. Guard Dogs working for a private security company, nope, banned. Domestics in a hotel, platonics in a hospital, Romantics in a club - all banned. And it will be checked and controlled regularly. There will be people bending the rules, but “my” BBU society may be dystopian but they protect the labor market! Owners who let their pets work like this are heavily fined.
If a pet does work for more than one household, that would already be charged. Romantics also may only be shared in very private contexts.
This is also a reason why the prices for pets are regulated in a way that exceeds what one would have to pay for labor for a certain amount of years. People still buy them, because of the bonding aspect, the stability, the configuration possibilities, the POWER, but really, not because the work they’ll do warrants the price.
Still, there have been several fields where “classic” workers have been pushed off the labor market; but all in areas where there isn’t a strong lobby to protect them.
HEALTHCARE / RETIREMENT
The compensation a boxie or their family gets should amount to several years of income. Additionally, WRU contracts include lifelong health care to a certain standard, lifelong board and lodging. WRU would take care of this, meaning a higher price to pay for the prospective - but they can always send their boxie to WRU medical facilities, and once the boxie can’t work any longer, WRU provides them with a place in a care home. (Officially, that is. And after WRU decided that they can’t work any longer. There’s probably not many pets who end up well cared for.)
It’s also illegal to hurt a boxie more than it is necessary to discipline them, or to keep them in inhumane conditions. Controls on that however are very rare. Still, sometimes people would report a situation to the police, and if the police aren’t paid off by the owner or don’t like them, they would confiscate the pet and return it to WRU. (Which somehow the pets don’t see as safety, huuuh.)
FREEDOM
Hadn’t been originally planned. WRU boxies are meant to stay boxies, forever. The demand came up however, owners wanting to release their boxies from their “contracts”.
After some thought put into it, this is only legal if they’re provided with sufficient funds to survive, as they wouldn’t usually find jobs easily and never had the chance to build up any savings. There are certain insurances / funds that make money of setting up such plans for former boxies. Not all deliver as well as the owner intended.
If such funds however can’t be provided or the pet ends up helpless, they will be delivered back to WRU. After all, WRU is obliged to give them lifelong support (see above) once the owner won’t give it any longer.

God republicans are so funny about the ACA. It’s not unpopular. Cope and seethe. “The February 2024 Health Tracking Poll shows that about six in ten U.S. adults (59%) hold a favorable opinion of the ACA while about four in ten (39%) hold a negative opinion of the law. Views of the ACA are still largely driven by partisanship; nearly nine in ten Democrats (87%) along with over half of independents (55%) view the law favorably, while about two thirds of Republicans (67%) hold unfavorable views.” The only people who dislike it are people who already think like you. Which most people don’t. Just for the record I don’t think taxation is theft. I actually like having a water and sewer system.
Even for republicans talking about repealing it isn’t important or popular. “Republican voters are far less interested than Democrats in hearing the candidates talk about the health care law, according to new polling data released Friday by KFF, formerly known as the Kaiser Family Foundation. Only 32 percent of self-identified Republican voters think it’s very important for candidates to talk about the future of the Affordable Care Act, the poll shows, compared to 70 percent of Democrats.” You might not want to hear about it, but you’re not in the Democratic base. No one thinks they’re ever going to convince you to vote for Joe Biden so why would they waste time trying to pander to your vote when you disagree with the base on basically everything?
(Also you should read the fact sheet re: 2 million more homes. They’re not saying the government will build 2 million more homes, they’re going to use market interventions to encourage more building AND more preservation. Between preserving NOAH and incentivizing more affordable development and more affordable unit types- triplex, duplex, etc, we can manage the supply side challenges. They’re also encouraging communities to loosen their zoning codes through grant funding, a pilot version which started last year- the PRO housing grant that was very popular with municipalities. This is NOT a call for the government to personally pay for more housing, often it’s just the government encouraging more diverse housing typologies to even be allowed to be built.)
You're either new here or think you're smarter than you are.
I don't care what hardcore Republicans think about ACA and I don't care what hardcore Democrats think about it. No one's changing their minds. They're going to vote how they're going to vote. I don't know why Biden is wasting time talking to hardcore Dems now when he should be talking to independents, who are still moveable. And ACA is not the talking point you want to hit if you're talking to independents.
Tumblr media
The KFF poll you cite found that Obamacare favorability is down 10 points since last year among Independent voters.
ACA is slightly above water with them now. But this trend does not look good for Dems. And it gets worse when you start to talk about the specifics of the package beyond the Dems' two favorite talking points - and even those fall apart pretty quick when you poke at them a little. This is a very flimsy case for Dems.
But the good news for you is that healthcare is not a top issue for voters in this election. Biden should consider that a win, in and of itself, and not remind voters that he's done pretty much nothing on it since he was vice president because here's your other problem, according to that same KFF poll:
Tumblr media
Even among people who like Biden more than Trump in regards to healthcare, they pretty much all agree that Biden still sucks.
This is not about my opinion. If you want my opinion, I'd be happy to talk about how an Obamacare plan would cost me three times as much as the non-ACA plan that covers exactly the same stuff. I'd be happy to talk about how the government considers me uninsured because I obviously picked the cheaper plan and if it weren't for Trump, I'd be shelling out money for penalties and fines every year. I'd be happy to talk about how the changes to Medicaid billing that were passed alongside ACA created an entire new industry of leeches who have driven the cost of prescriptions up dramatically, reduced the patient choice, and worsened health outcomes. I'd be happy to talk about how those billing changes also forced independent practices out of business and caused the entire industry to consolidate into a small number of massive organizations who now control pricing at their own whims, which means costs have gone up even more.
But like you said, my mind is made up. I'm not voting for Joe. So my opinion isn't that important. That's why I'm looking at this as nothing more than electoral strategy. And the Dems are making a mistake.
And thank you for directing me to the White House 'fact' sheet on the housing stuff. It's actually worse than I thought. Can't wait to see my rent go up more because of this. I thought we were just going to make it harder for me to buy a home one day but I guess I get to enjoy the fun while I'm still a renter. This plan is a fucking joke.

MIL Lesson 4 - Values Integration
Tumblr media
"Media's Dynamic Influence📰📱: Affecting Values and Norms in Three Key Sectors🏫👨‍💼🏥"
“In a world where media📱 are everywhere🔍, from the cellphone in our hands🤳 to the advertisements🖥 on the streets, it is critical to understand how important it affects us. Different types of media have not only affected what we believe and how we act but have also caused influential changes in education, business, and healthcare. Let's take a look at the journey of how the media have shaped our perspectives and how it has made a big impact on these important aspects of our lives.”
Media, in all of its types, continues to be a major factor in developing people's and society's values and norms. Media development has changed not just how we take and work with information, but also how we view the world and how we act in it. This essay discusses the significant effect of many forms of media on social values and rules and regulations, emphasizing both the positive and negative consequences of this influence.
The Role of the Media in Developing Values and Norms
1. Print Media📰: The introduction of print media, which includes newspapers, books, and magazines, participated in an essential function in distributing knowledge, encouraging critical thinking, and shaping societal values. Written material enhanced literacy, spread ideas from the Enlightenment, and assisted in challenging existing norms.
2. Broadcast Media🖥👨‍💼👩‍💼: With the advent of television and radio, broadcast media acquired a significant influence in creating cultural norms and values. These mediums gave a visual and evident platform for stories, which had a significant influence on society. Television, for example, brought faraway activities and cultures into living rooms, increasing understanding and challenging old norms. 3. Interactive and digital media👩‍💻: People's access as well as interaction with information has been revolutionized by the digital revolution and interactive media. The internet, social media, and interactive materials have made accessible communication by allowing people to exchange ideas, build communities, and question established norms.
4. The Media's Dark Side🤯: The media has the capacity to influence beneficial change, it also has a negative side. Misinformation, sensationalism, and polarization have increased as a result of the rapid dissemination of content through digital channels. This has played a role in the merging of ideological differences and a decreasing of trust in traditional media organizations.
The Impact of the Media on Education, Business, and Healthcare
Education🏫👩‍🏫:
Traditional print media, such as textbooks and academic publications, continues to be an important source of information for students and scholars. However, high expenses and restricted accessibility might make providing equal educational opportunities challenging. The development of media in education has converted traditional classrooms into virtual ones. Learning has become more accessible and adaptable as a result of digital media, online courses, and e-books. Social media has created new opportunities for informal education and cooperation. Educational games and virtual reality simulations, for example, use interactive media to make learning more interesting and effective. The problem, however, is maintaining the quality of online information while also minimizing possible distractions.
Business📇👩‍💼:
Within specialized industries, traditional print media including trade publications and business journals remain credible. It may, however, have limits when it comes of reach and timely information distribution. Business has been transformed by media, particularly digital and social media. E-commerce, online marketing, and social media advertising have all become necessary for reaching a larger audience. Tools for data and analytics enable informed decision-making. However, the digital world presents difficulties in terms of online reputation management and data protection.
Healthcare🏥👩‍⚕️🚑:
Medical journals and health publications play an important role in communicating research findings and therapeutic guidelines to medical professionals. Their limited reach among the general population, however, can hinder the distribution of health information. Digital media in healthcare has enabled individuals to obtain health information and make educated decisions. Telemedicine has evolved into an essential component of healthcare delivery. However, misinformation on social media is a risk to public health. In telemedicine, privacy and security are important.
The development of different types of media has had a deep and diverse influence on cultural values and norms. It has the potential for producing constructive change, challenging existing norms, and giving an opportunity for less fortunate voices. However, the same medium may also foster disinformation. As we go through this changing journey, it is important to critically reflect on the information we consume and create, and to aim for a media climate that fosters openness, diversity, and ethical standards. By doing so, we may harness the good potential of the media to construct a society that represents our most valued values and beliefs.

Some headcanons on abortion in the Mojave Wasteland
Reproductive healthcare is integral to women’s and human rights, but in a place as impoverished and war-torn as the post-apocalyptic Mojave Wasteland, access to reproductive care, ranging from testing for STIs and cancers to pregnancy to abortion, is extremely tenuous. I was thinking of ways we can flesh out the Fallout setting, and what experience could be more universal among societies than the struggle for effective and equitable healthcare?
Headcanons, thought up on the fly, in no particular order, mostly pertaining to the year 2281 (when the plot of New Vegas begins).
[BIG tw: misogyny, surgery]
Cultural attitudes in the Mojave:
The overall right to an abortion is actually not widely contested among communities within the Mojave. For the most part, the doctrine that “life begins at conception” has faded away along with other tenets of conservative Christianity, although some peoples have more hostile views or more severe restrictions than others. (In particular, despite the violence that often accompanies prostitution in New Vegas, sex workers are not punished for abortion.) However, cases have occurred in which families coerce pregnant people to either undergo or forgo abortions, as men try to assert their “authority” over their partners.
NCR:
Unfortunately, the NCR is in the midst of its own culture war surrounding abortion rights. The secular militarist deep state that currently rules the country, represented by President Kimball, regards abortion rights as a threat to the nation’s growth, productivity, and military power (today’s child is tomorrow’s conscript). This secular deep state exists in an alliance with right-wing Christian factions, who seek to abolish abortion throughout the country, but for the time being, these anti-abortionists are held back by opposition from liberal courts and protestors in the yellower (i.e. more liberal) states, like New Reno and Redding. In the territories under military occupation (e.g. coastal Oregon, the Mojave Wasteland, and Baja), the NCR military has generally not sought to interfere in local customs one way or the other, except to tax them. However, Kimball himself has sponsored a bill in the NCR’s senate which would require providers in these territories to charge for abortions at a vaguely defined “market price” and pay sales taxes, in effect forbidding anyone who is not sufficiently wealthy from receiving one. The fate of reproductive rights in the NCR will depend on how their crushing defeat in the Mojave disrupts this fragile political armistice.
Great Khans:
The original Khan raider gang encouraged or coerced female raiders to undergo abortions simply to prevent themselves from becoming a “burden” to the enterprise. Over time, as the Great Khans under Papa Khan’s leadership began to take on new members and expand their lifestyle from raiding to pastoralism and agriculture, they came to accept child-rearing as part of building their community into a nation, while female Khans refused to accept any restrictions on abortion. Now, even after the Bitter Springs massacre, the Great Khans staunchly hold to their reproductive rights—but they face poor access to all healthcare, with no trained physicians and only a few midwives, making it difficult to receive safe abortions.
Followers of the Apocalypse:
The attitude of the Followers as a whole towards abortion is unfortunately something of a chimera, a result of the reliance the early Followers in the Mojave had on missionaries to train and arm them. While the Followers expelled the most ardent proselytizers years ago and prohibit physicians from refusing procedures on religious grounds under threat of expulsion, some autonomous doctors attempt to manipulate patients into “alternative options,” and face little punishment because they may be the only practitioners available in an entire region. The Mojave is an unusual case because most of the Followers willing to travel to such a chaotic and destitute place were political radicals, so the Mojave Followers are vehemently pro-abortion, to the point of cooperating with the Commune to distribute tests, antibiotics, and surgical supplies through their mobile clinics.
Caesar’s Legion:
It probably goes without saying that women under Legion slavery have no reproductive rights at all. Legion men not only force women to give birth under the explicit sanction of Caesar, but they also subject women to forced abortions when the local government sees fit to “control the slave population.” However, women living under Legion rule in settler communities like Albuquerque and Two-Sun, who are not chattel slaves, also face an absolute prohibition on abortion: Caesar has personally imposed the death penalty for anyone who either receives or provides one. Small underground committees of women have coalesced among Legion slaves to provide abortifacient herbs to pregnant women. If caught, these women risk crucifixion, but without them the women of the Legion would have no recourse.
Mojave Commune:
[a bit on my homebrewed faction!] A militant agrarian socialist movement emerged in the late 2270s, centered upon Indigenous Mojave farmers displaced by the NCR and Legion invasions. These farmers based themselves in the Mojave lands south of Cottonwood Cove, supported by food and technology provided by the Mojave tribes. However, without assistance from the Followers, they had little access to healthcare in the bases and towns throughout the wider wasteland. A young Mojave physician named Inés de Tijuana, inspired by pre-war Maoist “barefoot doctors,” encouraged them to develop mobile gynecological clinics, which would provide services from midwifery to abortions (while publicizing the communist cause). She hired two ex-colleagues in the Followers to help her train her physicians and midwives, and sent them with armed guards throughout the wasteland. These services filled a desperate demand in the youngest communities, like Westside, Freeside, and Novac; when the Followers arrived in 2276, they were thoroughly impressed by the extent of the medical infrastructure already present in a region they believed was lawless and destitute. Bolstered by the aid of the Followers, the mobile clinics helped endear the communist movement to impoverished rural and urban people—the base of the communist movement in the years to come. (This same Inés would later become known as “Courier Six,” the notorious instigator of the uprising that ejected the NCR from the Mojave Wasteland during the Second Battle of Hoover Dam.)
