Considering how much the horror of Simon being trapped under the Curse of the Ice Crown was first and foremost based around a loss of identity
Tumblr media
It only makes sense that this is still what Simon struggles with now, after being freed.
Simon knows who he’s not. He’s not Ice King. He is Simon Petrikov again. But who is Simon Petrikov now? Because it seems like his current situation has really taken away all of the ways Simon used to define his identity.
‘Simon Petrikov the antiquarian and archeologist’ is… not quite it anymore. His current job is similar, since he’s still teaching people about ages long past. It’s just that now that ancient era is his original world - but it’s clear that’s not quite what he wants to do anymore. Whatever it’s because he can’t get as excited about the 20th century as he could for ‘his’ ancient times, or because he doesn’t really like his new ‘teaching method’ where is quite literally a living museum exhibit.
Tumblr media
And what about ‘Simon Petrikov the intellectual researcher of magic and the paranormal?’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, no chance anymore. Before the Crown, Simon had a real fascination with magic and the supernatural. But now, in the wacky world of Ooo - he has lost that aspect of himself completely. He aches for the mundane.
And then there’s ‘Simon Petrikov the adventurous outdoorsman’, which we only learned about just now.
Tumblr media
Which is another aspect of Simon’s identity lost in the new context of Ooo. Simon might’ve been able to brave the elements against rain and mosquitos and poison ivy. But in this world of dragon monsters and shapeshifting bears he is just not able to take it anymore.
Tumblr media
‘Simon Petrikov, Marcy’s gentle caretaker’ is right out too. Not only because Simon believes Marceline just doesn’t need him anymore…
Tumblr media
But he also doesn’t see himself as capable of helping any little kids anymore - and not just in term of ability…
Tumblr media
But also in terms of his own personality.
Tumblr media
Making this little girl cry basically smashed that part of his identity to dust.
Tumblr media
And then there’s “Simon Petrikov, Betty Grof’s beloved”, which would be a fool’s errand to keep clinging to…
Tumblr media
And yet…

august — ethan landry (part two)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
word count: 1,674
pairing: hockey player!ethan landry x fem!reader
summary: after a couple of days filled with avoidance and sadness, y/n and ethan finally talk.
author’s note: there was obviously no other way of ending august season than with part two. i loved writing these august stories, and i hope i didn’t disappoint with this second part <3
part one part two
Tumblr media
DAYS HAD GONE BY SINCE THE TALK AT THE PARKING LOT, SINCE Y/N ACCIDENTALLY TOLD ETHAN SHE LOVED HIM AND SINCE DREW FOUND ETHAN CRYING IN THE HALLWAY. The boy had been completely honest with Drew, telling him all about their summer. At first he was really pissed at Ethan, but then realized that, even though the boy had messed up badly, his intentions were good. He didn’t want to humiliate Betty in front of the school, but he could’ve handled things a bit better.
The day after the fight, Ethan broke up with Betty, and the news flashed around the school in the blink of an eye. Y/N had heard the rumours from Inez, but since most times you couldn’t believe a word she says—she was the gossip of the school and her data was almost always wrong—, she tried to ignore it.
“I think this time it is true” Willow said, talking about the break up rumour.
Y/N shrugged “I don’t know. Mr. Golden Boy doesn’t want to cause any unnecessary drama near the match” she said bitterly.
“I can’t believe he said that” her blonde friend shook her head in disbelief. “I honestly thought you’d be together by the end of the day.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s hard to resist those puppy brown ey- holy shit you look like you’re going to kill me” Willow laughed. “I’m just stating a fact, Y/N/N. I don’t have a crush on him or anything.”
“I was just too hurt to be deceived by his gorgeous, irresistible brown eyes” Y/N said.
“Even when you’re mad at him you’re simping” Willow laughed in amazement.
Y/N groaned “I’m hopeless. Everytime I compliment him, you have to pinch me in the arm.”
“Deal”
Tumblr media
Y/N LAID ON HER BED STARING AT THE CEILING WISHING TIME WOULD SLOW DOWN. It was the day of the match, she had her brother’s jersey on—which made her sad because it reminded her of when she wore Ethan’s—and was waiting for his brother to be ready to go to the venue.
She wanted time to freeze, she wanted to avoid that hockey game. Obviously, the reason why she was dreading to go was Ethan. She hadn’t seen his stunning face since the parking lot disaster, she had been playing hide-and-seek with him, doing everything not to cross paths with him. Not that Ethan had tried talking to her—which made her both relieved and angry.
“This is too close” Y/N sighed, as they sat on the bench, very near the ice rink.
“Relax, he will be wearing a helmet. You’re safe from his charm” Willow tried calmed her down.
“His charm is also his ridiculous tall frame” Y/N replied.
“God” Willow groaned in frustration. “You two need to talk cause you’re driving me crazy.”
Y/N looked at her guiltily “I’m sorry, Willow. I’m the worst.”
“Fuck, no no. Now I feel bad, I was kidding, Y/N/N” she hugged her. “But seriously, are you ever going to talk about it properly?”
“I don’t know” Y/N looked down at her lap. “He hasn’t tried to… maybe he’s done with me.”
“I doubt that.” Willow said confidently.
“Do you think I should be the one who makes the first step?” Y/N asked.
The blond girl shook her head “No, he’s the one who should be apologizing.”
“Right” she said, shifting on her seat.
Willow eyed the action carefully. “You’re actually thinking about making the first step.” she accused her.
“It has crossed my mind several times, but I’m not going to do it” she assured her. “I really miss him, tho.”
“I know” Willow took her hand in comfort.
The players entered the rink, and Drew instantly searched for his sister, waving at her. She waved back just as enthusiastically as him.
“Golden boy alert” Willow whispered from beside her.
Right behind Drew stood Ethan. Y/N couldn’t see his face, as it was covered by the helmet, but his broad shoulders and large frame were recognisable. For a moment, she forgot what had happened between them, and she almost smiled. It was like a reflect, because that’s what she used to do every time he looked at her from the rink.
Ethan would be lying if he said he had forgotten how pretty Y/N looked on that hockey jersey, because the image of her in it lingered on his mind. Everything about her was tattooed on his mind. He wanted to skate towards her and hug her until his arms grew restless, and he probably would’ve, if the whistle hadn’t blown.
When Ethan scored the first goal, Y/N’s chest bursted with proudness and happiness and celebrated loudly with the rest of the spectators. And then, Ethan broke the group hug to look towards the seats—towards her. He raised his hockey stick to point it at her, and Y/N stood frozen on her place as she felt countless pairs of eyes glued to her frame.
“Did he just-“ Y/N whispered, to no one in particular.
“Holy shit, Y/N/N” Willow said, almost as shocked as her. “He dedicated you his fucking goal. In front of the whole university. And you thought he was done with you.”
She couldn’t help but smile widely. Was she weak? Maybe. But she just missed him too much to be mad anymore.
Tumblr media
THE CELEBRATION PARTY WAS APPARENTLY HOSTED BY DREW, SO Y/N ARRIVED HOME AND SOON IT WAS FILLED WITH DRUNK PEOPLE AND LOUD MUSIC. She locked her room and decided to stay in her porch listening to her own music. People that passed by looked at her weirdly. Everyone was partying in their nice outfits and she was sitting outside alone, in her pjs and cardigan.
Ethan saw her as he got closer to her house, and his chest compressed. It was like he couldn’t breathe. He just showed up to the party to talk to her. The speech had been rehearsed in front of the mirror ever since he got home the day of their fallout. He had dreamed about this countless of times, and he had seen every possible outcome. Hopefully, the night would end with both of them kissing on the porch.
Y/N raised her head at the sound of the wood creaking, and there he was—standing in her front porch light, with his sequin smile, Levi’s and a hoodie.
“Hi” she said softly. Her voice felt like a caress to his ears.
“You’re here alone” Ethan said confused, leaning against the wooden railing, right in front of her.
“I hate the crowds, you know that.” Y/N said simply. “You’re not dressed for a party.”
“I didn’t come here for the party” Ethan confessed. Y/N looked at him expectantly. “I know that what I did to you was the worst, but I swear I didn’t mean to hurt you. I… I don’t have feelings for Betty, but I didn’t want her to be humiliated in the hallways, so I thought I should wait until the end of classes. And then she pulled my arm around her, and you saw it and-shit I messed up so badly, Y/N. I’m not proud of how I handled things. I don’t know if you’ll forgive me, but I don’t want you to doubt that I love you. Because I do, so fucking much. The only thing I want to do is make it up to you, so tell me what you need—time, not to talk to you ever again, punch me. Whatever. But I really am sorry and I miss you.”
There. He finally explained things, and now it was up to her. Would she have him? Would she still want him? Or would she tell him to go fuck himself?
“I’m not going to say I overreacted, because I didn’t. That day felt like a punch in the face, but I understand what you did. We both handled things horribly, we were so consumed by us that we should’ve realized it was something that needed to be addressed before classes started.” Y/N said, and then smiled so beautifully that Ethan wanted to cry. He didn’t want to stop having the privilege of seeing it. He needed her back. “You’re a good person, way better than me, because I didn’t even think about what it would be like for Betty.”
“Well, she has always been mean to you…” Ethan spoke.
“Yeah, but still. It was bitchy of me, and sweet of you. I’m sorry, I should’ve let you explain way earlier but…”
Ethan shook his head. “You were hurt, I get that. I understand, and you shouldn’t apologise for that.”
Y/N stood up, cardigan sliding from one of her shoulders, and slowly made her way to him. “Hi”
Ethan chuckled and the corners of her lips turned upwards. She had missed making him laugh, but above all she missed the way his eyes shone when he laughed. “Hi… hey, what happened to your arm?” he asked, dragging the fabric of the cardigan even lower to inspect her bruises.
“Oh… that was Willow” Y/N said, and the boy widened his eyes.
“Willow hit you?!”
“No, she just pinched me a lot… because I asked her to” she explained, but Ethan looked even more confused. “Never mind, just don’t worry about it.”
“Your kinks turned weird” Ethan laughed when she bumped her shoulder with his. Then, he patted the wooden rail next to him. “Sit here.”
“What are we doing?” she asked when he took a step closer, stepping between her legs. Ethan just lowered his head to press kisses on her bruises.
“There, I kissed it better” Ethan smiled. Y/N couldn’t believe how a human being could be so adorable.
She wrapped her arms around his waist and rested the side of her face on his chest. “I missed you. I love you”
“Missed you too, and love you even more” he put his forehead on her shoulder, embracing the confort that the girl’s touch gave him. A few minutes passed, and Y/N called his name to make him look up. “Yeah?”
“I want to kiss you” Y/N whispered.
“Do it. I’m certainly not opposed.”
Their lips met with eagerness after days of pining and longing, and they didn’t stop moving until a group of drunk players stepped on the porch.
“Want to go my car?” Y/N asked, and Ethan nodded immediately.
The back of her car was a bit small for both of them, but they didn’t care. Being with each other was all they needed.

Warnings: reader doesn't have family, reader and Eddie are in their late 20s/early 30s, swearing
Word count: 5.3k
Author's note: Okay, it's 11:54pm on Christmas Eve where I am and this is far from perfect, but I wanted the people who enjoyed the first part to have this for Christmas so here it is. I hope you're all safe and you get moments of peace and joy these holidays.
Part One
Tumblr media
You were handsome You were pretty, Queen of New York City When the band finished playing They howled out for more – Fairytale of New York, The Pogues/Kirsty MacColl
3 Days 'Til Christmas
“So uh, what’s goin’ on with you and Robin’s friend?”
Hawkins town centre is frosted with a light dusting of snow that fell in the early morning hours. Picture perfect, like a Hallmark Christmas card. The hum of festive cheer in the crowds doing last-minute gift shopping and partaking in the charming small-town seasonal activities is mostly drowned out by an argument between Dustin and Lucas, Max and the younger Sinclair sibling rolling their eyes in annoyance. They sit, impatiently waiting for the rest of the party to show up, on the edge of the fountain frozen over with the cold snap that swept through town at the beginning of the week.
Steve’s perched on the back of a bench a few feet away, ignoring the squabble as Eddie toes the ground in front of him.
“First of all, I know you know her name. And B, nothing is going on, she’s a great girl and a really good friend to Robin.” Steve shrugs, “We both told you you’d like her.”
Eddie squints, his leather jacket opening to reveal a dark red sweater as his pocketed hand gestures in question, “Why me specifically?”
Steve shrugs again, “Rob and I both thought you’d hit it off. It just feels…right. Don’t you think?”
“I mean yeah, yeah she’s beautiful. Cute as hell when she gets flustered. But she’s a city girl–used to more than this, right?” He looks around at the small-town square, filled with little kids dressed in matching sweaters and flustered mothers pushing prams with clenched smiles. “She’ll be gone well before the ice on the road thaws.”
“So? What’s wrong with having a little holiday fling?”
Eddie sucks his teeth, “I don’t think I can.”
Steve lets out a low whistle, “You’re that head-over-heels already?”
“No.” Eddie shakes his head, cheeks flushing pink from more than just the bite to the wind, then sighs. “Think if I have a fling I might just get there though. This is Robin’s fault she shouldn’t’ve talked her up so much!” Steve chuckles at his friend’s distress. “Doesn’t help that she looks like a damn angel when the snow’s kissing her eyelashes.”
Steve rubs his face, “Jesus Christ.”
***
You and Robin had vowed to hold off drinking for the rest of the holidays after your night at The Hideout, which was followed by a day spent on the couch, groaning about loud noises as Gremlins beamed across the TV in the darkened living room. When you’d finally managed to peel yourselves away from the nest you’d made out of blankets, large diet sodas and greasy fries from the drive-thru, you decided to cross off making Christmas cookies from Robin’s list of “holiday activities that could make the grinch’s heart grow.” She assured you weren’t the Grinch in this situation but it certainly felt, pointed.
The misshapen sugary treats weigh down your tote bag as you walk arm-in-arm with Robin towards the designated meeting spot.
“I keep making a fool of myself in front of Eddie.”
Robin smirks, “You’re doing fine.”
“I can just be so,” you hold out your hand in a vague gesture and grimace, “sometimes, you know?”
Robin laughs, “Oh, I know.”
“Thanks.”
She squeezes your arm that’s wrapped around hers and shakes her head, “Everybody loves you I promise. And if they don’t yet, they will.” You both round a corner, the fountain and a group of animated college kids coming into view. Steve waves from across the street, Eddie turning his head in your direction then away again quickly when you make eye contact.
“Right.”
***
“C’mon now everyone keep up.” Steve claps his gloved hands together, his cheeks pink and his brows furrowed in faux admonishment as he leads the group towards the petting zoo set up for the weekend in the parking lot of Bradley’s Big Buy supermarket. You can tell by the glisten in his eyes how much it means to him to have all of his found family in one place.
You laugh softly when he claps Dustin on the back and the younger boy tries to shrug off his embrace.
“He’s in his element this time of year.” Eddie falls into stride next to you, the both of you now bringing up the rear of the boisterous group.
You nod, a small smile permanently etched on your face from the company. “I can tell.” You walk the rest of the way in silence, watching the antics of the strange mix of personalities in front of you with a distant bemusement as you tried and failed to come up with something to say. Had you called him sexy at one point the other night or did you dream that?
The stench of hay and something less savoury wafts over you as you all enter the car park under a bright red banner with ‘Petting Zoo’ written in white cursive on it. You’re about to ask Eddie if they did this every year when a middle-aged woman stops you with a brochure held out in front of you.
“Have you found Jesus?” She’s standing by the entrance in a matching woollen navy-blue coat and skirt, heels on her stocking-clad feet and hair quaffed perfectly in a bob accentuated by the pearls on her ears and neck.
You don’t even think about your response before it slips out, “Oh, I’m so sorry, I didn’t realise he was missing.” You can see Eddie smirk out of the corner of your eye. It was just meant to be a light-hearted joke, but the woman clearly didn’t see the humour.
She purses her lips in a thin line and snatches the brochure back out of your reach. “I should’ve known you were one of his type.” You keep walking along, her voice changed back into a sweeter version as she asks the next person the same question behind you.
You turn to Eddie, his eyes downcast and shoulders higher than they were a second ago. “What type are you?”
He rubs the back of his neck underneath the black knitted scarf that matches his beanie. “Uh, devil worshipper according to this town.”
“Oh, I’m actually lapsed. Found all that sacrificing was getting in the way of my day job you know?”
The smile that catches at the corners of his mouth makes your tummy flip.
“I know whattya mean.” He nods, all dramatics with his feigned seriousness, “So much laundry with all those blood-stained clothes.”
“Right? Such a hassle.” You both laugh as you look at each other. “Do they actually think that?”
Eddie shrugs, “It was worse when I was in high school, but I still get the odd bit of holy water thrown in my direction.”
“Why?” You shake your head and frown, serious this time. “Just because you listen to Motorhead?”
“That and I was the leader of the Dungeons and Dragons club in high school. It’s a game for nerds really, but it kinda got swept up into the satanic panic that was going around at the time.”
“That’s so…dumb.”
He huffs a laugh through his nose, watching your feet walk in sync together. “Yeah, I guess it is.” His head snaps back up, “Wait, how do you know Motorhead?”
“Why wouldn’t I?” You bump his shoulder and scoff, “Did you just judge a book by her cover Eddie the devil worshipper?” He opens his mouth to speak but his reply is cut off by an animalistic snort that has your head turning in curiosity. You gasp as you spot the furry brown creatures leaning into patting hands over a wooden fence, “They actually do have reindeer here!”
Eddie grins as your face lights up. “Did you think they were lying?”
You shake your head, “I thought they’d just be regular deer. I’ve never seen–“ You grab Eddie’s leather-clad arm in your excitement and he looks down at your touch before you bound off towards Robin who’s laughing at your reaction.
El and Max have to coax you into actually patting one when you get closer, the antlers much more intimidating in person. They giggle as you squeal and pull back your hand when a cloud of condensation escapes from the deer’s nostrils as it huffs loudly.
You turn to laugh with them, distracted as the reindeer leans in closer, your body tensing when you feel its hot breath on the back of your neck before it snatches your scarf from around your shoulders. The girls yell as you whip around to see it trot off, barely processing what just happened when you feel a warm hand on your back, Eddie’s frame coming into view as he slips past you and jumps the fence. He’s able to grab the scarf out of the creature’s mouth and sneak back onto your side of the fence before anyone who works there even notices.
You’re speechless as he hands your scarf back to you, El and Max cheering along with Robin and Nancy who’d noticed the commotion.
The younger girls are giggling again when Max interrupts the silent look you and Eddie share while the scarf is held in between the both of you. “You’re a real knight in shining armour this week Munson.” He looks up at Max as she and El walk away, looking for their boyfriends to ask if they’d brave a reindeer pen for them.
“Thank you, Eddie.” You take the scarf from his hands, grimacing at the wet patch on the light fabric. “Don’t know if you can get reindeer drool out of cashmere though.”
He snorts, “Maybe you shouldn’t have worn something so expensive to a petting zoo, princess.”
You brush off the nickname, not entirely sure if it was meant in jest. “You know I’m a feminist, I’m gonna need you to stop coming to my rescue Eddie.”
He smirks, “I don’t think that’s feminism, I think that’s stubborn independence to the point of detriment.”
He was taunting. Flirting really, but Eddie forgets it takes time for people to figure out he’s not just being grumpy all the time. That he isn’t as mean as his initial wariness of people might suggest. For a second he forgets that you haven’t always been a part of this group – that you don’t know him like the others do.
The awestruck look that had graced your face drops. “Jeez okay, I didn’t realise we were reading each other.” His eyes go wide as you shrink into yourself. “You know, I realise you probably don’t like me very much and you might feel like I’m ruining your time with your friends at Christmas, but I am trying Eddie.”
He hates the way your eyes begin to water.
“Robins told me so much about all of you, I know how much you all mean to each other and I really didn’t want to intrude on that, but she insisted that it would be okay. She’s letting me spend the holidays with her family because I don’t have one, and I don’t want her to regret that.” You look down at your feet, “I’ll make sure to stay out of your way from now on.”
Eddie clenches his eyes shut as you walk away to find Robin or anyone else who won’t mind you joining in.
“Nice work Munson.”
***
Once the group have had their share of reindeer petting and eaten the cookies you and Robin had brought along with some hot cocoa from a nearby stand, everyone gathers in the town square again for the annual Secret Santa. You’re huddled together with Robin, head leaning against hers as you steal each other’s warmth and the group gathers in a circle, Steve tossing pieces of paper with everyone’s name written on them into his beanie.
Eddie keeps stealing glances at you as Steve goes around the group, dramatically holding a gloved hand to each of the teens’ eyes and yelling, “No peeking!”
Eddie feels shit. He can’t believe he’s made you feel unwelcome. Well, he can. He knows he can be guarded when it comes to letting new people into his life, but you’re one of Robin’s best friends – spending Christmas with her because you don’t have anywhere else to go and he’s made you feel like he doesn’t want you here. Asshole.
When Steve gets round to you and Robin, he holds the hat out to her then moves on to Jonathan and Argyle next. You figure you’re too new to the group to partake in this tradition, which seems fair. Steve rounds out the wonky circle with Eddie, dropping the beanie with a “whoops” before fumbling on the ground with it, then holding it out to Eddie. You notice him squinting his eyes in suspicion, wondering what’s going on between them when Steve comes back to you.
“Lucky last,” he smiles that charming cherub grin of his and you reach into the beanie to pull the last piece of paper out.
Of course it would be.
Steve reminds everyone of the budget and secret part of Secret Santa with a pointed look at Mike, who frowns in offence before the group starts heading off in different directions.
Robin moves to stand in front of you. “Who’d ya get? Do you need help? I can bend the rules for you seeing as you don’t properly know everyone.”
“Yeah, I feel like I’m a bit disadvantaged.” You laugh nervously, “I uh, I got Eddie.”
“Oh great! He’s easy. Big nerd, you know what he likes.” She starts counting off on her fingers, “Music, DnD, Lord of the Rings and all that fantasy stuff.”
“Yeah, I guess.” You shrug.
She hooks her arm with yours again, “C’mon let’s go together, I got Nancy. I feel like you’ll be better at picking something for her than me.”
***
After an hour and a half, you’re about ready to give up. You helped pick out a faux-leather journal and fountain pen set for Nancy from Robin, but you haven’t been able to find anything remotely good for Eddie’s gift. Everything feels impersonal like something he could’ve just picked up himself and the last thing you want is for him to be disappointed that you got him for the gift exchange. Just another friend-only activity that your presence has ruined.
You’re currently browsing through a second-hand bookstore, hoping to find something you can curl up on the couch in your apartment with during the rest of the holidays, while Robin’s popped into the bath and body shop across the street to look for a gift for her aunt.
Your eyes scan the hardbacks in the fantasy section, fingers running lightly across the spines when they come to a stop on a light green book. You tilt the book from the shelf, admiring the mountains and dragon carved in navy blue adorning the border. This could be perfect. Carefully opening the worn cover, you find an inscription written in the yellowed pages that makes you smile. You close the book softly and head to the counter to ring it up. Maybe he wouldn’t be disappointed.
Dear Henry,
In celebration of our mutual liking – I hope Bilbo becomes a friend as well.
Happy Birthday,
Love, your Arwen
***
Christmas Eve
The butcher paper wrapped gift sat heavy in your palm as you’re greeted by Steve in his living room when you and Robin walk in. You hold up the present in question, keen to get rid of it before your clammy hands ruin the red satin bow decorating it, and Steve points you in the direction of the pile under the colourfully lit tree. You take a moment to admire the personal ornaments, the glint of a red 20-sided dice reminding you of the other inhabitant of this apartment.
The famous Harrington Christmas Eve party had been talked up by Robin for months. In her attempt to get you to Hawkins, she promised you a preview of the King Steve you’d heard her tease him so much about (which he vehemently denied was a thing), potently spiked punch (which you would not be partaking in) and impromptu games out on the street that would cause noise complaints from the neighbours.
And now that Steve and Eddie shared an apartment? Apparently, rowdiness was a prerequisite.
You’re more nervous than you should be as you settle in, taking solace in Jonathan and Will’s quiet company on the couch as you sip on a non-spiked mug of egg nog. It isn’t until half an hour later that Eddie even shows up, despite this being his apartment.
He walks into the living room, cheeks red from the cold, snow still sprinkled on his shoulders and in his hair. He’s followed closely by Dustin who’s rugged up in an assortment of knitwear that looks like it was definitely made by a doting family member, and grins when everyone greets him.
“Finally, you two.” Steve walks in from the kitchen with a bowl of freshly poured potato chips. “Everyone’s here, we’re getting ready for Secret Santa.”
Eddie just nods at him, offering you a tight-lipped smile when you catch his eye before he walks over to the tree to place something under it with his back turned to you.
While everyone gathers in the living room, he ducks out. Returning without all the extra layers, his crisp white t-shirt takes you by surprise and your eyes wander to the silver chain around his neck.
Pull it together, honestly.
“Okay, I’m first!” Robin walks across the room to the tree by the front window, only to be stopped by Steve’s arm.
“What? Why are you first?”
“Well, someone has to be dingus. Why not me?”
“Uh, maybe we should let our guest be the first?” Everyone turns their head towards you and the attention makes you sink further into the couch.
“Oh, no Robin is always first.” You wink in her direction, then frown. “Wait, did that sound weird?” You look at Jonathan and Will who both chuckle, the older boy giving you a shrug.
After Robin tears through her present the decision is made to go anti-clockwise around the room. The closer it gets to Eddie who’s sitting on the couch opposite you, the more your palms begin to sweat. You don’t think your heart could take him being indifferent to his gift, and you hated that you cared so much about what he thought. What was this town doing to you?
When Steve hands Eddie his gift your back automatically straightens, perched perilously on the edge of your seat you grip the mug of egg nog in your hands. He takes his time with unwrapping, not diving straight in and tearing like you would’ve expected, even draping the ribbon around his neck once he’s untied it. When he gets to the gift the room is mostly silent, save for the Christmas carols playing from the stereo in the corner. You’d already clocked The Kinks, The Damned and Ramones – sure that the boy who held your last ditch gesture in his hands had picked the tunes.
Eddie’s face is stoic as his fingers run along the cover of the book. When Dustin and Mike, sat near him spot what it is they share exclamations of “Sick”, but you’re more interested in the metalhead’s opinion. You take in a deep breath as he opens the well-preserved cover and you watch his eyes read the inscriptions.
After much back and forth you’d decided to leave your own message next to the original one. Writing in pencil in case he wanted to erase it.
He rubs his freshly shaven jaw then his eyes find yours across the room. They’re soft. Pools of awe that match the tone of his quiet voice.
“Thank you.”
You offer him a small smile, “You’re welcome.”
“How did you know it was from her?” Dustin pipes up from his seat on the floor.
“Lucky guess.” His eyes hadn’t left yours until then, and you watch him scan the message again.
Dear Eddie,
I know you’re already well acquainted but I thought what better company on a long winter’s night than the second best party to go on adventures with (second only to your own of course).
Merry Christmas,
C.G.
xx
You feel his eyes on you as the rest of the gift-giving takes place around you. Wiping the sweat off your palms now that the moment was over, but the tension you’d felt hadn’t lifted from your chest – only tethered itself to the cause that was sitting across the room lightly brushing his thumb over your offering.
You’re the last in line to open your Secret Santa, but the attention of the room has been caught up in the gifts that have already been revealed. You’re admiring the new camera bag Jonathan is turning over in his hands when Steve taps you on the shoulder. He holds out a small parcel that fits in the palm of his hand and winks at you when you take it, before walking over to sit by Dustin.
You look down at the parcel wrapped in shiny red paper, tugging at the twine tied around it when you feel the weight of the couch shift beside you.
Eddie takes up more room than Jonathan who’s now sitting on the arm of the sofa across from you with Nancy’s arm draped over his leg. He’s manspreading a little, but the only reason you notice is because of the close proximity of his knee to yours.
“You got me,” he gestures to the gift in your hands, “I mean I got you. Well, I guess both are true.” He holds up his new copy of The Hobbit and smiles softly.
You look down at your lap again and begin to unwrap your present, Eddie’s leg bouncing next to yours. A glint catches your eye as a pair of dangly ruby earrings is revealed.
“They’re not real obviously,” Eddie scratches his jaw, “and Robin said you’d be happy with anything, like a snow globe or candy but I saw these in the drugstore and thought they’d look good on you.”
You smile, “Eddie they’re really pretty. Thank you so much.”
He blows out a puff of air, “You like them?”
“I love them, honestly. Oh, look we match!” You hold out the earrings next to the ring on his finger sporting a small ruby stone.
His cheeks are dusted in pink as he smiles, “Yeah, I guess we do.” You ask him to hold the earrings you had in before as you swap them. “You don’t have to put them on now.”
“I know, I want to.”
His tongue darts out to wet his bottom lip, mesmerised as he watches you put on his earrings. “What does C.G. mean by the way?” He opens the book in his lap again.
“City girl.” The frown on his face troubles you momentarily before he speaks again, doe eyes pining you down once more.
“Thank you. It’s really special. You’re really–“ He trails off, eyes searching yours as you wait for him to finish his sentence. But he doesn’t. Instead, he gets up so abruptly that you flinch. “I gotta uh, find something…I’ll be back.”
You turn to Will who had been not so subtly watching the whole exchange from the other side of the couch and gives you a sympathetic smile when you say, “I still don’t know where I stand with him.”
***
For the next twenty minutes, you only see glimpses of Eddie as he darts in and out of rooms. Stomping around like he’s on a mission, a crease etched deeply in his brow. While Nancy and El are admiring your earrings in the kitchen, you hear a squeak of shoes on the linoleum before you see a blur of brown hair disappear around the corner.
You excuse yourself, finding Eddie alone in the hallway, leaning up against the wall with his arms crossed and head tilted to the ceiling.
“Eddie, are you okay?” He shakes his head and huffs out a bitter laugh. “What’s wrong?”
“There’s always goddamn mistletoe at these things. Steve always gets drunk and tortures people with it, but then this year? Of course there’s none!”
You step closer, now standing in front of him but he doesn’t meet your eye. You’re confused. “Why do you need mistletoe?”
“So I have an excuse to kiss you.”
Oh.
OH.
Wait, what?
“Why don’t you just…kiss me?”
His head snaps down, eyes flickering back and forth between yours with a frown. “Can I?”
You bite your lip to stop the enormous smile threatening to creep onto your face. “Yes Eddie, you can kiss me.”
He pushes himself off the wall, crowding your space and reaching a hand out tentatively to touch your face, thumb gently stroking your skin like he had the book. He searches your eyes for any hesitation before he leans in slowly until your fluttering lashes tickle his cheek and he can’t take it anymore. The kiss is as soft as the snow falling in flurries outside, one elongated peck before you're both leaning in for another, and another. Turning tender as he reaches his other hand to pull you closer by the waist. You can taste peppermint on him, probably from one of the candy canes hanging on the tree, but it’s the warmth from his chest and the heady scent of his cologne and smoke that clings to his shirt that has you lost in him. So lost that when his thumb gently pulls down on the side of your mouth, you let him in with no hesitation, his tongue now spreading his warmth from the inside.
“Wow, that got R-rated really quick.” You jump and lean back, not moving far with Eddie’s grip still on your waist. You look down the hall and catch Robin nodding with a look of slight disgust on her face next to a smirking Steve standing there with his arms crossed.
Eddie bows his head and sighs, “Really? Think you can maybe take the commentary somewhere else Harrington?”
He holds up his hands in defence, a leafy twig with white berries hanging from his hand. “Hey, I was just coming to give you two a push, but it looks like the party’s already started.”
Eddie pinches the skin in between his brows, “For fuck sake.” You cover your mouth with your hand at the sight of the deep blush creeping into his cheeks, which deepens even further when you both hear Dustin yell from the other room.
“Did he kiss her yet?!”
Eddie groans and moves his hand to the small of your back to guide you out the door, flipping off the audience at the end of the hall before grabbing your coats off the hanger. He helps you into yours and leads you outside the apartment building by your hand.
For the first time since you arrived in Hawkins, you don’t notice the cold that greets you, focused entirely on Eddie’s warmth as he crowds you against the brick wall of the building. He holds one arm above you, almost enveloping you in his soft waves when he leans in.
That intense gaze has you shying away again, opting to play with the zipper of his jacket instead of looking back.
“You really liked your gift that much huh?”
“I really like you.” He tilts your chin up.
“I didn’t think–“
“I’m sorry if I made you feel unwelcome,” he frowns. “I have trouble letting people in.”
You shake your head and he moves his hand to stroke along your jaw. “It’s okay, this is a very special family I’ve walked into. I understand why you’d be wary of anyone disturbing that.”
“You fit right in. I promise.”
“Thank you, Eddie.”
He smirks, “Also, I’m just really, really bad at flirting when it comes to drop-dead gorgeous city girls.”
You grin, “I think you’re probably better at it than you think.”
He leans in, lips a breath away from yours, “Yeah?”
“Yeah.”

Christmas Day
The screen door shudders under your touch as you knock on the trailer, your gloved hand coming back to wrap around the translucent cake plate tucked into your chest. You hear muffled footsteps before the inside door swings open to reveal a beaming Eddie on the other side.
“Hi,” you smile.
You step back to let him open the screen door and he meets you with half a step out, grabbing the plate from you before placing a gentle kiss on your lips that has you desperate for more.
“Hi, sweet girl. C’mon in.”
You follow his warmth, “There’s only half left of the cheesecake. I’m sorry Robin and her family already ate most of it, then I kind of hid it when I realised I didn’t have anything to bring over – I think it tastes pretty good though. And I brought this wine, which is all they had left at the store and it only came in this gigantic bulk size, I think it might be half water–”
You feel Eddie’s smile as he presses his lips to yours again, “It’s okay sweetheart. You didn’t have to bring anything.” “I know, but I wanted to make a good first impression and we both know that I…don’t.”
He chuckles, “Trust me, I was blown away as soon as you stepped outta that car.”
You roll your eyes, snappy reply dying on your tongue when you hear a door open and an older man walks down the short hallway towards you. “Hi, Mr Munson.” Eddie squeezes your shoulder as you step forward with your hand held out and introduce yourself. “Thank you so much for having me, I hope I’m not intruding on your Christmas.”
“Nonsense,” he frowns at you, the resemblance uncanny, and brings you in for a tight hug. “Please call me Wayne, darlin’. Honestly, Ed’s been bouncing off the walls waiting for you to come so you might be able to do me a favour and get him to sit still.”
“We were just watching Gremlins.”
“Oh, I love that film! I didn’t get to appreciate it the other day because I was hungover–I mean…we were busy baking cookies.” You feel Eddie’s chuckle on the side of your face.
“She brought baked goods and wine, Wayne. All for lil’ old us.” He squeezes your shoulder again.
“It’s not any good.” You hold out the cheap bottle to Eddie’s uncle.
“Oh hell, anything you can uncork, uncap or unscrew, I’ll drink it.”
You laugh, shoulders relaxing under Eddie’s subtle massage.
***
You feel light.
Floaty and fuzzy with the laughter coming from beside you, your body sinking into the worn couch and Eddie’s gentle stroking of the back of your hand grounding you in the moment. The Munson’s, like almost everybody else in Hawkins had welcomed you into their home with open arms.
It was Christmas and you were curled up on the couch with a boy who meant something to you. Allowed to be a part of a family if only for a short period.
“So little miss, you headin’ home tomorrow?” You turn to Wayne, who’s sitting in his armchair, eating a piece of the cheesecake you plated up for him with Eddie’s help.
“I was planning on it, but you know the airport gets so busy during the holidays and Robin’s still gonna be here so…I think I might just stay till New Year, actually.”
Eddie’s head snaps from the TV set towards you. He grips your hand a little tighter to get your attention.
“Is that right?”
You turn to him, “Yeah. Are you–are you gonna be around?”
“No,” he shakes his head, frowning in that way that’s starting to make your heart flutter, “I gotta work. Lotta damsels in distress needin’ me to rescue them from the side of the road.” You feel the heat creep up your neck as Wayne rolls his eyes at his nephew.
“Wanna ride shotgun?”

Also let’s talk about how the crown affected Farmworld Finn and the Winter King
Finn Mertens isn’t the warm(get it), happy guy we’re used to. He’s still protective and badass, but he stays out of trouble. Some of it is clearly just the world he lives in — the Farmworld isn’t the safest place overall — but he shuts down at the mention of the crown. The opening scene of Destiny shows the “Snowman” attack a family, including a baby, potentially killing them — even if he doesn’t really remember that (like Simon only has fuzzy memories of being Ice King), the knowledge alone is enough to haunt someone for the rest of their life
Winter King, meanwhile, was clearly living in denial — he redirects attention to all the gifts he could give than focus on his time as Ice King, he refuses to admit the awful thing he did to his Princess Bubblegum, and he claims not to remember Betty before suggesting Simon replace her with magic. This last bit, he tries to play it off as a joke and calls it unethical, but we see an Ice Marcy in the castle — he’s aware that the shit he pulls is messed up and he’s fine with hiding it.
The thing is, he lived with the curse for like 900-ish years before finding a way to offload most of the curse onto another person. Candy Queen is a danger to him, and even if she isn’t he clearly doesn’t enjoy her being around him. But he’s choosing to let her keep existing — he’s chosen for years to let someone else suffer the way he suffered, because he’d rather face inconvenience/danger/the knowledge of how fucked up his actions are than go back to the crown
Let’s look at how these two compare to Simon — while he’s overall been more alright with talking about the way the crown affected him than Finn Mertens, he’s also willing to go back to it. Sure, Ice King doesn’t have the weight of fairly recent human murders on his back, but the guy was technically a villain and did hurt people. On the other hand, neither of them are coping with the crown’s aftermath well. Finn and Simon both seem to have unhealthy relationships with alcohol to cope with the crown — Simon’s shown binge drinking and seems to be a regular at the bar. Finn on the other hand has children and is clearly doing his best to provide to them, so I doubt he gets wasted often, and the one time Jay said he did, it seemed like an accident, but it’s notable that the only time he was willing to talk about his trauma was after he had gotten drunk
That lack of warmth (get it lol get it) I mentioned earlier is something they both share as well. Finn still has his Jake and clearly loves his dog, but he pulls his daughter away from Jake to have her do chores, even though Jake was clearly itchy and very much doesn’t have the strength or flexibility to properly scratch the itch. Finn’s children are well cared for, but quiet. They clearly don’t expect much affection from their father, and seem pretty used to him being unhappy/short with them. Simon, meanwhile, shows remorse for making Astrid cry but doesn’t make up for it when she returns. He isn’t reaching out to Marceline, even though she’s basically his daughter and would totally welcome him around (plus Bubblegum seems pretty happy to hear from him as well). It had only called back later or something, they could’ve talked about how he was trying, he clearly was, but he still needs help.
They also share an aversion to cold it seems — Simon’s reaction to the ice in his drink, all the times Finn Mertens stares into open fire (though maybe there’s a chance his wife could’ve been the Farmworld’s equipment of Flame Princess, but you gotta admit this series is really leaning into Finn/Huntress Wizard). It’s notable that, after wheedling ice magic as a teenager, the adult Finn Mertens builds a flamethrower into his prosthetic arm
Simon and Winter King, meanwhile, have some interesting parallels in how they treat Fionna and others. Simon’s so at the end of his rope and not coping that he’s willing to return to mental hell, essentially go though with magical suicide, under the guise of helping Fionna and Cake. Sure, his desire to help them is genuine, but his self sacrifice here is deeply unhealthy. Winter King is meanwhile behaving horrifyingly selfish, but with equally desperate motivations (the PB/CQ situation), and he’s hiding behind it by giving out presents and entertainment. He’s genuinely fulfilling Cake and Fionna’s wishes, and is sincerely trying to fulfill’s Simon’s “need” for a new crown. He’s gleefully giving them tours and playing games and inviting Simon into his lab. Shoot, he doesn’t have to use magic to give Cake Wi-Fi but he does anyway
The difference is that Simon is doing something self destructive with his need to help Fionna, while Winter King is distracting from how destructive his actions are by giving Fionna what she wants
Then there’s their respective Bettys. Simon’s not coping with losing Betty, like, at all. She either doesn’t exist anymore or she’s more or less become a god. He’s trying to summon a way to her instead of living his life. Winter King meanwhile is acting like Betty meant nothing to him. Sure, he’s had at least a hundred years to properly work through her death, but like. He’s a Simon. And he seems to have even less of a support system than our Simon — his only friends are a couple of ice people he made. Dude totally hasn’t sat down with his grief to work through it. He clearly isn’t letting the past go even though he’s acting like it doesn’t matter to him (the Ice Marcy thing)
I don’t have a conclusion, other than like. Ya know. The crown hurts people. And clearly the multiverse doesn’t have a therapist that specializes in helping people working through that pain

disgustingly fandom-brained ask: in the fionna and cake au, who is betty- yue or suki? yue is very self-sacrificing, and her ultimate sacrifice grants her more autonomy through becoming a deity. suki however is a redhead, is a sort of badass historian/antiquarian like betty, and shares many of betty's non self-destructive traits. suki's exposure to jazz music makes her moves less predictable, i.e. betty. sokka is simon, toph is fionna, momo is gunter
JFC 😭😭😭 there’s so much happening here
okay first of all i think zuko is guntzie (although i am specifically referring to original gunter aka the little dino boy. master evergreen is like if ozai wanted to destroy the comet instead of harness its power for further destruction, i guess? but yeah orgalorg!gunter would be momo u right)
toph IS fionna though i hate to say it bc toph gets away with her wanton destruction bc she’s twelve so it’s charming (i love fionna but she’s terrible, muriel). but yeah they both move through the world feeling depressed and stifled until they are granted access to the “real” world and in the process realize that their insular existence is a lie, but because they have all this pent up energy and rage aren’t fully cognizant of the consequences of their callous violence (at first). and the progression between fionna&simon and toph&sokka is also paralleled as it goes from "who the hell is this loser nerd" to mutual recognition and understanding and beautiful best friendship.
sokka as simon is such a crazy connection to make bc i never would’ve thought of that but it’s literally so true. sad depressed lonely clown times. (is it just you and me in the wreckage of the world…) i’ve said before that i think sokka would also struggle with existing after the end of the war because he’s spent so long living for other people that he doesn’t actually know how to live for himself, as a person and not as a sacrifice. like if he felt like his services weren’t needed yeah he’d probably try to kill himself too. but if simon of all people can somehow learn to value himself and believe that he is worthy of existence then okay maybe sokka can too (i doubt it, but maybe that’s because simon’s acceptance felt too easy to me, so i see sokka reaching that revelation even less). neither of them is able to register the impact they have on other people because their self-esteem is too low to actually process that they mean something outside of what they can do. and no one suspects that they’re not fine because of course they’re fine they’re great in fact. (also what gene yang did to sokka in the comics IS as egregious as simon becoming ice king. to me.) yeah… im gonna be thinking about this so much now. thanks a lot
as for betty, you’re right that both suki and yue have obsessive, self-sacrificing tendencies because they are both mirrors of sokka and thus have a lot in common with him and each other (it’s about duty it’s about sacrifice it’s about eschewing selfhood and committing to a life of servitude for the good of the community) so they both have equal claim to being betty but i would say that yue is more bettycore because she literally does sacrifice herself to become a cosmic entity, and although she doesn’t do it for sokka specifically (and in fact does everything in her power to avoid sokka, which is the opposite of what betty does, although ahh does that make ice king hahn? much to think about), she does kiss sokka during her transformation. but then again suki literally chooses to stay behind in prison for sokka even though she’d already been there for months by that point. they’re both obsessed with sokka but their duties are not “saving sokka” specifically so it’s not the same as betty who throws away her whole life for simon. but yeah i think it’s yue. i mean she’s literally a princess. and she haunts sokka. and he feels responsible for her “death.” she’s both alive and not. but either way it’s crazy. you’re insane for this.

Idea:
Simon goes to the Isles and Elements does happen. After Finn meets Minerva, she and Simon have a little talk, she wants to meet one of the persons looking over her son and maybe Simon can convice her that Ooo its not a bad place and that Finn its better there that trapped in Founder's Isle (and stopping the White Cloud incident from even happening to beggin with).
And once they return to Ooo, everyone freaks out and Simon immediatly flies to where the Snow Kingdom was to find Betty.
I do wonder, at this point Bonnie its again a Princess or is still on excile for her crimes? Because I can see Patience trying to convince her that aweakening her Elemental powers is what she needs to return to her position and protect her loved ones.
man you just keep hitting me with genius after genius, props to you.
so what I’m thinking is, Simon tags along to look for more humans and Snow Queen ends up going to see them off at the beach, but stays behind because she doesn’t really have a reason to go, but she knows it’s important to her prince so she’s obviously not going to try and stop him. At this point, she’s a lot more aware that Magic Simon can protect himself just fine, so she’s a little bit less overprotective and overbearing in that regard. still just as clingy, though, but Simon honestly sees this as a plus since he’s equally clingy.
on Founders’ Island, Minerva tries to convince Finn to stay, first by words and then by force. after seeing Jake stretch and Magic Simon hover in the air, she’s thoroughly weirded out by everything outside of their island and is utterly positive that Finn will be much safer if he never leaves. Simon, however, has seen this once before in the form of Snow Queen/Betty trying to keep him trapped in the Snow Kingdom forever in order to make sure no one can yet him. Minerva sees from Finn’s memories how dangerous Ooo is, but when Simon steps up, he knows exactly what to think of to prove to Minerva that Finn is capable of living in Ooo and doesn’t need to be coddled and constrained. Minerva sees all the times that Finn has won the fight and celebrated with all his friends, the times he’s sought out Simon and Snow Queen for comfort and reassurance, the times his friends have all supported him even when it does become too much. Finn may not be the most powerful in the world, may not win every single fight, but Minerva needs to see that Finn will always have his friends and family in Ooo to support him, no matter what.
and Minerva caves. Simon has been more of a parent to Finn than she ever got the opportunity to be, more than Martin ever chose to be, in her eyes. Finn has parents, a brother, so many friends and so much family, and Minerva… she can’t — won’t — take that away from him.
of course, then everything gets Weird As Hell as soon as they get back to Ooo. Simon definitely panics and runs off to go find his wife as soon as he realizes she might be in danger (so, immediately), leaving the rest of the gang to sort out whatever the fuck is going on by themselves.
when he finds her, she’s a heap in the newfound Ice Empire, lying on the outskirts just outside Patience’s dome, unconscious and without her crown (and strangely enough, there’s a propeller hat lying above her head like it fell off when she fell). Simon of course freaks out and tries to wake her up, but without the crown, she’s catatonic. the most he can do is cast a bubble around her to make sure that nothing and no one can harm her while he goes to get the crown back. the crown is a problem, yes, but without it, she wouldn’t be alive right now. Simon would much prefer an alive Snow Queen to a dead Betty, and he’s sure his beloved would agree.
Patience gives up the crown fairly easily, and it’s not hard for Magic Simon to figure out what happened from the remnants of the ritual left on the ground, etched into the ice itself. she used the crown as a battery for some sort of element-based spell, but rather than the traditional four of fire, earth, water, and air, it’s fire, ice, candy, and slime, a quartet he’s only ever seen before this in the Enchiridion and in a few old texts he found in Wizard City. there are at least four places which correspond to these elements that he already knows of — the four kingdoms that match the four elements, and the Snow Kingdom is already a mess as it is, what with Patience St Pim having gotten her hands on it. He shudders to think what the rest of Ooo might look like right now, but he needs to go and help Betty before anything else. Once she’s safe, they can go and find Finn and Jake and BMO, and regroup by the Candy Kingdom.
also: Bubblegum is back in her kingdom at this point and is on slightly better terms with SQ and Marcy after she apologized, but Marcy is still a little bit pissed off and will take a minute to cool down from that.
(KoO went running for the hills after they called Phoebe on his ass. She’s a very effective wax deterrent.)

like half of simon & bettys interactions that weve seen are betty stating fairly unambiguously what she wants to happen and simon going with it!!! betty insists she absolutely won’t take credit for finding the enchiridion so simon accepts it, betty insists she has to try to un-curse him even if he’d rather die than keep being ice king so simon accepts that, betty is the one who phrases her “doing her own thing” and her “being with simon” as if they’re opposed concepts that can’t exist at the same time!! i saw someone talking abt it as like “he stopped her from going on her trip” look at me,. betty wrote him a letter that pretty much said “i guess i’m going to do this other stuff now but i’d actually rather be with you” - or at least, even if it wasn’t Literally what she said, it’s reasonable for someone to look at it and interpret it as that - and simon went oh shit!! if she wants this thing More then she should have it!! Like. just. there’s not really a way to compare “what the f&c finale is trying to say happened” with “what f&c literally shows us happening” that doesn’t seem to say. intentionally or not. “betty needed simon to make better decisions for her.” and it’s crazy to see people just. say things that express that sentiment even more clearly. like it’s chill. All Of This Stuff Was Ultimately Betty’s Choices??? Stop Acting Like They Weren’t It’s Weird.

List of things that are making me absolutely crazy from the newest Fionna and Cake eps:
Simon’s choice to show Marcy kindness — for even the short amount of time he had — changed the trajectory of her life forever. She’s brave and compassionate because of him
Simon outright saying he raised Marcy as his own. it’s always been implied he’s a father figure, but never explicitly put in those terms as far as I can recall.
“My little Marcy”
Martin’s “i love this little guy” and affection for fionna. ok yeah mertens family emotions again awesome
Marcy fucking killed Martin?????? Bro????
Simon can’t save Marcy in that world. Like it makes sense, she doesn’t know him, but I was half expecting him to be able to get through to her. What did that do to Simon’s brain chemistry like fr
World of the Lich’s wish…
The Ice King tapes… Fionna finally understands what the crown does… the frame where ice king becomes a SKELETON HELLO???
Did they forget baby Finn in vampire world??? Where did we last see him?
BMO all on their own… the brb note from finn…
THEY FUCKINB EXPLODED BMO
the Betty and Simon lore… Fionna asks if Simon got on the bus with her… you know that’s gonna come back up later too
Betty always seems to be the one who makes the big leaps,,, i don’t know what it’s going to look like, but I think it’s Simon’s turn
JERRY IS THE LICH
the lich has depression,, do any of these bitches NOT need therapy
Fionna having the crown and not wanting to use it is SUCH a good bit of character development
Simon’s memory of Betty finally triggering something,, she’s coming,,, Simon’s about to get it

Prediction for what’s gonna happen during episode 9:
Simon finally is reunited with Betty, in the form of globbetty, who is still conscious within glob.
She can’t possibly be separated from glob, cause she’s afraid that if/when she is, glob in just gonna try to end the world again. And she wouldn’t want to be responsible for the end of the world a second time.
Betty, possibly through telepathy, basically tells Simon that he shouldn’t worry about her, cause she’s alive and unharmed, and that he should focus on finding happiness himself, even if she’s not around. And possibly reminds him of all the people that care about him, like marcaline, Finn, princess bubblegum (possibly) and many others, he just needs to get himself out there and meet them. Not as ice king, but as Simon. The same Simon she had fallen in love with all that time ago. And that no matter where he is, she will always be with him.
Does that not feel like a tearjerker? I’m betting that the main reason the next episode is gonna be really emotional is cause Simon will finally have to come to terms with the fact that he cannot save Betty, at least for now. This is something prismo had told him, which is why he was mad at him. Cause to him it felt like the wish caster was another obstacle preventing him from saving her, even if we know that’s not the case. But it’s another thing entirely to hear the same thing come from the person he’s trying to save in the first place.
To make a long story short, I want the same thing I’ve wanted since the beginning of all this: for Simon to survive all this, make his way back to his version of ooo, and possibly find peace with the fact that he can’t save his princess like he had hoped. But instead of only feeling down about this, he reminds himself of what Betty had told him, about how there are so many people that still care about him and want him around, even if he’s not magical like everyone else.
Speaking of which, I’d love it if there was a plot twist that he still had control of ice and snow, even without wearing the crown, since he’s been ice king for so long, his body has already adapted to the feeling of the ice powers running through his veins. Now I can imagine you’d be wondering to yourself, “but beanie, if Simon still had control of the ice powers, then why have we not seen any hints of that yet?”
Well, I think we may have gotten a hint waaaaay back in episode 4, when prismo was scanning Simon’s brain, he gets a error message and then says this:
“Nope. Still locked.” Still locked? Now when I had first heard this, I thought he was talking about ice kings mind that he had been locked out of. But that wouldn’t make sense, since ice king no longer exists, so wouldn’t the error message instead say ERROR, DATA NOT FOUND. cause without ice kings mind, there would be no magic to keep the link open. But that still doesn’t answer the question as to what is locked. Well I’m thinking that something else might be locked, or in this case blocked, like something was jamming the signal.
His ice powers are blocked.
Why would it be blocked, you ask? Well we all know that Simon’s slow descent into madness prior to becoming ice king was extremely traumatic for him, to the point that he physically flinches at the sight of ice, and isn’t at all comfortable with wearing the blue gown/robe that had originally belonged to Ice king. Simon didn’t want anything to do with ice king, and that included anything related to ice and snow, even if it’s in the form of small ice cubes in a glass. Hs ice magic had been blocked off by Simon himself, albeit unconsciously, it’s like how sometimes someone will block out a memory related to a traumatic experience in order to heal, the same thing would apply to the ice powers. And Simons powers being blocked off is one of the main catalysts for Fionna and cake’s dimension being changed.
Thanks for coming to my tedtalk.

These are some concepts I made for ladybugs transformations, based on the existing transformations in the show, aqua bug, ice bug, and Cosmo bug.
In my miraculous rewrite the Kwami's don’t need food power ups to get extra abilities. I don’t have an issue with this writing choice, I just feel like it’s a bit unnecessary and also make Tikki and Plagg look restricted when they’re supposed to be beings with God like powers.
Instead Tikki and Plagg can conjure these extra powers whenever specific circumstances arise, and instead it’s the miraculous holders who transform their suits to better fit the scenario.
Let me know what you think of these designs and feel free to give any suggestions on how I could improve them.
Below is just some extra exposition for these redesigns
(Fyi under each outfit is the same grey spandex suit with red spots for body protection)
🏊‍♀️🐟🌊 Aqua bug’s cannon suit is the least offensive in my opinion, the added details of the pink fins and scaly suit was a nice touch. Despite this though her outfit it still very samey to her regular suit, so I wanted to change it up a bit. My Aqua bug wears a red one-piece swimsuit with pink sparkly trim, she still has her transparent pink flippers, and her hair is now tied in a bun with a sparkly pink scrunchie. I think the simplest way to explain the vibe I wanted is that: cannon aqua bug looks like a fish; my aqua bug looks like a cute scuba diver.
🏂⛸❄ Ice bug’s cannon suit infuriates me, I know that with the 3D animation its more costly to make new models but c’mon, they just stuck white fur to her skintight suit, overlaid her suit with snowflakes and gave her a tiara like :/ how is that supposed to keep her warm. ALSO, why the ice skates, yes in that one episode with the ice-skating Akuma they came in handy, but other than that when would she ever need this power up. Fun fact ladybugs are very vulnerable in the cold; it triggers their hibernation instincts, so I wanted to play into that a bit. Ladybug becomes sluggish in the cold so to cope she has a fluff lined coat and boots, mittens and a fluffy beret. And if she needed ice skates, she could just create some. To summarize: cannon ice bug looks like a Disney on ice reject, my ice bug looks like someone dressed for winter.
👩‍🚀🛸🌠 Finally, Cosmo bug…I hate it. She is still wearing the exact same ladybug suit just with a different coloration, a jet pack just glued to her back and the worst offender, a helmet…that doesn’t even cover her whole friggin head, chat noir oh yeah, he gets a proper functional helmet, but ladybug NOOOO she needs to have her hair and ears showing otherwise she won’t look pretty enough. I was very inspired by the space age fashion craze from the 60s, as well as another French co-produced cartoon Atomic Betty. Ladybug dons this sturdy combat dress, with her belt buckle serving as a holder for her magic compact, paired with funky space boots. Her helmet covers her entire head and is a transparent pink glass with pinkish white spots covering the whole surface; her wings are made of the same material and magically sprout from the spot on her back. Overall cannon space bug looks like a knockoff power ranger, my space bug looks like a fashion forward astronaut.

But I Know I Miss you | Gaz x Nina | Childhood Friend AU
Tumblr media
I'm only 17, I don't know anything But I know I miss you - "Betty" Taylor Swift
Tumblr media
Kyle and Nina have drifted apart as they turned into teens. Kyle couldn't even remember the last time they talked but then a boy on the football teams decides to make a bet about who can get into her pants first
Tumblr media
Kyle couldn’t pinpoint the date he and Nina stopped talking, they got older and drifted apart. They still went to the same private school, still had all the same classes,  their fathers still worked together. He used to walk her to the end of her street. She and her family lived in a larger house up the hill. It was on the way to his house. They just stopped walking on the same side of the street one day.
She kept to herself most days. Occasionally he’d see her standing around with other girls, she wasn’t always talking but she was there with them before class and during lunch.
“She’s actually really nice. Our dad’s are friends, you know.”
Kyle was focused on school and football. It’s year 11, he needed to focus on his A levels. He saw her in class, usually getting top marks.
“Fifty quid? To get in her pants? Easy.” Arthur was making another bet when Kyle walked onto the pitch.
“Careful she doesn’t go full Carrie on you though,” Another boy laughed.
“Irons is an ice queen.” Another joined.
Kyle stopped and turned. They were talking about Nina. Crude jokes about her ass and mouth. How nice she’d look underneath them, how she’d be more pleasant after
“Knock it off!” Kyle snapped.
“Easy Garrick. Just having a laugh.”
“Not about her.” Kyle laid down the line. “We grew up together. She was like my sister. Don’t talk about her like that.”
Two of them sheepishly apologised. Arthur looked at him like he’d just offered a challenge.
That week he saw Arthur start to pay attention to Nina, helping her when she dropped her books, complimenting her work in class, touching her arm in the halls.
"You need to leave her alone." He warned one day after school.
"She's hot, Kyle. Am I not allowed to flirt?" He grinned and it made Kyle queasy.
Kyle did his best to aim him away from Nina. There were other girls. Girls that weren’t her.
He saw them as he was walking home. Arthur and Nina, just a block ahead of him. Arthur was carrying her bag. It angeried him in a way he didn’t expect, he was angry that Arthur was using her but he also felt jealous that he was the one walking her home. They stopped at the corner of her street. She kept reaching for her bag but he wasn’t letting up, his hand holding her arm, leaning in for a kiss. Kyle could see her shrinking before awkwardly giving in. Arthur near instantly tried to shove his tongue down her throat.
His feet carried him down the pavement faster than they ever did in a match. His fist slammed into the side of the other boy's face.
"I told you to leave her alone!” Arthur sat on the ground, nursing a bloodied lip.  He didn't know what he expected but it wasn't Nina looking at him with a heartbroken look. She picked up her bag and ran down the street.
He tried to call after her but she was gone, disappearing around the back of one of the neighbour’s fences.
Arthur picked himself up and shoved past Kyle.
“She’s all yours, Garrick.” He spat.
His mum came into his room later that night.
“Hey Kyle. I know you and Nina don’t talk much but her mum just called. She didn’t come home today. Did you see her after school at all?”
“No, I didn’t.” He lied. “I don’t know the last time I talked to her. We’re not really friends anymore.”
“That’s a shame. You two used to be inseparable,” his mum said. “If you hear anything let us know okay?”
“Will do, Mum.”
It got dark. Nina still hadn’t come home but her parents had decided to wait till morning to actually do anything. A tangled knot of anxiety bounced around his stomach. Kyle checked his phone. 11:30.
Kyle pulled on his jacket and shoes and climbed out of his window. He had one hunch of where she might be. Years and years ago they built a fort deep in the woods. He didn’t know if it was still there but he knew that when she was eleven and ran away from home it's where he found her last time.
The little plywood shelter was still standing, surprisingly. Kyle noticed that the area looks lived in. There was a new tarp over the roof, a battery powered lantern flickering on and off, their old toys set up in a line on a makeshift shelf and Nina sitting on an old blanket with her knees pulled up to her chest.
"Hey. Thought I’d find you here." He has to crawl to get in beside her, taking off his jacket to wrap around her shoulders. She flinches away, leaving his arms hanging in the air.
"Please just go away," She says softly. Her skirt has rode up her thighs and he sees the red scratch lines. An old memory creeps in. Her new dress stained with dirt, a ten year old girl scratching at her arms and legs in anxiety of getting home.
"It's cold. We should go somewhere warm. We don’t have to go home. The chip shop is still open. I-”
"Why?"
"It's cold Nin-"
"No! Why would you do that?” She looked at him with tears pearling up in her eyes. “We’re not friends, you haven’t talked to me in years, it feels like you ignore me and then the moment one of your friends might like me you go and ruin it.”
The anger in her voice was quickly overtaken by something much more devastating, a resigned sadness that punished her for thinking of the possibility of a different outcome.
She was right, they hadn’t talked, he didn’t know if he could call her his friend anymore. He told himself he cared about her but when was the last time he gave her more than a passing nod. He didn’t want her to believe he’d punched Arthur out of cruelty to her. It was the opposite. He didn’t want her to be hurt.
“He didn’t like you,” He said quietly, unable to pull the band-aid off in one go. “He just wanted to get in your pants, Nim.” The old nickname he gave her years ago, so long he forgot why he thought of it. “They made a bet about it. I told them to knock it off but he wouldn’t. I’m sorry.”
She pulled her knees up to her chin and let out a breathy little laugh.
“I’m a fucking idiot.” She wiped her nose on the sleeve of her sweater. “I thought he was a twat but he seemed to really like me. I like how it made me feel. Someone actually wanting to be around me.”
“I want to be around you.”
“Except you don’t.” She shook her head. “This is the first real conversation we’ve had in almost four years.”
Had it been that long? Kyle sat down next to her.
“I’m sorry.” The more he thought about it the more he realised she didn’t have any friends. She walked home alone. He never saw her out with the other girls. He’d forgotten along the way that he was her only friend. They didn’t drift, he pushed her away. No, he couldn’t hang out. No, he didn’t want to play in the woods. No, he had football. No, tell her I’m not here Mum. She stopped coming over eventually.
“It’s fine.”
“It’s not. We…I made a promise.” He showed off his right palm, a thin scar etched across his palm. A gross childhood promise made in blood with a stolen knife.
“We’ll be friends forever. We have to be now.”
He reached across to grab her right hand as well, laying it open next to his. A matching wound.
“I want to be your friend again, Nina.”
Her head leaned against his shoulder.
“I’d like that.” She said quietly.
It was near one by the time he walked her to her front door. He wanted to go in with her, make sure she made it to her bed okay. She hugged him and it felt right.
“Did you mean it?” She asked softly.
“Of course I did.”
He met her at the end of her street the next morning. He loved watching her face turn up in a grin as she walked up next to him.
“Took you long enough.” He said as he took another bite from his apple. A flash of concern across her face.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were waiting.”
“I’m just joking, Nim. We’re early.”
They didn’t talk much, still adjusting to their rekindled relationship. Their hands brushed together every so often. He wanted to take hers in his.
All the simple joy he felt melted to disgust as Arthur walked up to them.
“Fifty quid for you Garrick,” He smirked, shoving a stack of notes into his hand. He turned towards Nina. “I’m not one for sloppy seconds but I’m willing to make an exception for you.”
Kyle was going to hit him again. Nina’s carefully built up smile crumbled into a look of shame. She didn’t think he was in on it, did she? Her eyes were getting glassy as several other students giggled and whispered among each other.
“Nim, I wasn’t-”
Arthur yelped in pain as Nina punched him square in the nose. He stumbled backwards and she was on top of him. It was a mess of limbs and cries as she scratched at his face. Kyle ran up and grabbed her by the waist, pulling her back.
“Nina. Stop! Nina!” She tried kicking him as he pulled her off.
“Crazy fucking cunt!” Arthur spat, scrambling up in a try to save any dignity.
“Fucking choke!” She yelled back.
“Miss. Irons! Mr. Garrick! Mr. Bennet! Headmaster's office, now!” The rugby coach, who had clearly heard the yelling outside, was yelling at them.
Kyle sat next to Nina, holding her hand as they waited for their parents to arrive. Arthur was in the nurse’s office. Nina had apparently broken his nose.
“I didn’t…”
“I know,” She said, “You’re too kind.”
Nina's mum arrived and whisked her away into the office. The meeting was quick and Nina was pulled out by the collar of her shirt with whispered scolding.
Kyle’s mum arrived shortly after. He wasn’t in trouble. Nina had said she started the fight, Kyle only tried to break it up. She wasn’t in class the rest of the day.
He tried to text her after school but got no response. He sent another message before going to bed.
“You okay? I can take the blame if that makes it easier on you at home. Just let me know.”
Kyle woke up to tapping on his window. He watched with heavy eyes as a little stone flew up to hit the glass.
“Nina?” He was confused, looking down at her in the back garden. She was wearing sleep shorts and a hoodie pulled tight around her face with a backpack slung over her shoulder.
“I’m sorry but John’s deployed so I couldn’t go there and you’re kind of the only other person I know.” Her words always got quicker and jumbled together when she was nervous.
“Stay there, I’ll come let you in.” He kept quiet as he crept downstairs and unlocked the back door for her. He waved her inside. The door clicked shut and she had her arms around him, crying into his shoulder. He hugged her, he wasn’t good at comforting people but it felt right.
“I’m sorry,” She pulled away, wiping her face with her sleeve. “I’m going to wake your parents. I should..I should go. I’m sorry, Kyle.”
There was a glimpse of a bruise on her cheek, partially hidden by her hood. He grabbed her hand.
“No. Nina, you can stay. Come on.” He led her upstairs to his room. His mum would understand. Her legs were shaking from the cold. He grabbed an extra blanket from the closet and laid it on the bed. “Get in.”
“I can’t take your bed.”
“We’ll share like we used to.” It eased her a bit as she climbed into bed, pressing herself close to the wall. Kyle followed after her. It was a tight fit for the two of them, their knees knocking against each other.
“Your bedroom looks the same.” She said, looking around. The walls were the same colour and he still had football posters everywhere. His action figures were displayed on his bookshelf rather than living scattered across the floor. He wondered if her room still looked the same. Pink and white stripes, light coloured furniture and lacy curtains.
“I know what I like,” he smiled. Her laugh was caught off by a wince as the bruise on her cheek was pulled by her smile.
“Are you expelled?” He asked.
“No. My dad pulled a couple strings. He’s mad though.”
“He do that?” He motioned towards her cheek.
“Yeah… we got into it. I started packing and he was asking where I was going to go and I said Price’s because he was a better father and then he slapped me. He and mum were still screaming at each other when I slipped out. Price isn’t even in the country.” She forced out a little laugh.
“You can stay as long as you need, Nim.” He whispered.
William wasn’t his father and he barely saw him enough to remember what he looked like clearly but he was an imposing figure of his own childhood. The monster that lived in Nina’s house. It’s why they played in the woods more often than anywhere else. He opened up his arms to her, she inched across the bed to rest her head against his chest.
“I’m sorry, Nim.” He rubbed circles in her back and rested his chin on the top of her head. He held her hand, feeling her scar against his. He wouldn’t break his promise this time. He waited till she’d stopped crying. “You can have the fifty quid if you want.”
She laughed.

(whoops, unfollowed you for a second trying to hit the ask button lol) for the ask meme, Simon!
Yooo Simon Petrikov? let’s go!
Tumblr media
Sexuality Headcanon: Heterosexual (yeah I ship him sometimes with Hunson Abadeer but that’s usually on AU basis, for those ones Simon is bi)
Gender Headcanon: Cisgender but Simon is so comfortable and confident in his masculinity he doesn’t care about deviating a little from what is considered standard. He’ll wear pink and not care about what anyone says if he wants to.
A ship I have with said character: Petrigrof, AKA Simon x Betty. OTP of all time, I just want them to be happy. I wish we saw more of their interactions before their lives were destroyed by the crown and the war, the series finale flashback with the sundae was a riot.
A BROTP I have with said character: I guess with Finn, tho more as a father figure than a friend! I just want them to get along.
A NOTP I have with said character: Simon x Marceline, I don’t even need to explain why lol
A random headcanon: The song “Oh Fionna” was originally composed by Simon and it was about Betty, Ice King repurposed the song because he doesn’t remember her.
General Opinion over said character: Simon is great but he’s massively underrated within the fanbase and he’s very under explored in canon. Obsidian gave us a little taste that not everything is fine in Simon’s head after being Ice King for so long, which is frankly the most logical conclusion to make.
This man has a lot of unaddressed trauma! He survived a war that killed everyone he knows, for centuries he didn’t even know what happened to Betty, he had to deal with a curse that was destroying his mind and erasing his memories, the only thing that kept him going was Marceline. Simon only lived for her sake, and when he became to dangerous to protect her anymore, he just gave up.
There’s a lot of potential for character exploration right there and we aren’t getting it for whatever reason, it boggles me.
Tumblr media
Simon is a sweetie sure but I headcanon he has rage issues, the bit with clambulance supports the possibility that Simon has a lot of repressed anger, idk I want more flaws on the guy besides being timid and non confrontational. Makes Simon more human.

Note
I think its really interesting how the original show made a point of as more characters started to understand and respect the Ice King they started to call him simon. They all started to see the Ice King and Simon as more or less the same person. And that was a good thing they all started to really respect him as his own person and the things he went through even if he himself didn’t really know what was going on.
But now in the fionna and cake mini series its almost like the opposite needs to happen. The Ice King was Simon, but Simon isn’t the Ice King. All the other characters are so used to Ice King=Simon now that its actually hurting Simon now that he knows who he is. And its clear that all the people who are trying to help him etc mean well, but that doesnt mean its not bad for him and hurting him to hear that so often. Im really interested to see how this Ice King and Simon plot thread is going to continue down through the eps, because its a very interesting character point
Exactly and it’s so interesting to me how it seems they understood ice king better than they understand Simon, because as ice king everybody around him was similar in some way and they got what his deal was, yeah he was weird and crazy but they got why, But as Simon nobody can relate to him, not even with all the humans now living in ooo. And he has to live with that because really the only person who was also alive 1000 years into the future like him was Betty. Of course there’s Marceline but she was very young when the mushroom war happened she doesn’t have the same experiences as Simon or Betty. And it makes me feel like he misses that, he mentions he used to dress up as ice king and we see that in obsidian, of course he doesn’t like being ice king but even though he is surrounded by people that love Simon, nobody can really get his experiences like they could with ice king.

"I hate Bucky." He's been grumbling about Barnes for the entire walk. There's a thin line between love and hate, Sam supposes, and apparently that line is someone else's dick in Bucky's mouth. "Fucking… gonna call him Fucky from now on."
"He'll like that." Sam points out, shifting Steve's weight to get the bony knees out of his ribs. He'd better get some good karma for this shit, he wishes he didn't have such a strong conscience that he can't knowingly let this guy sleep on a sticky frat house floor for the night. He's way nicer than his messy friends deserve.
"Gonna call him fuckface then. Fuckface fucking Barnes. Sucking all the dicks. S'not fair, where's the dicks left for everyone else?!"
[the gang go to a house party at a hockey frat, mistaken identities and inadvisable drunken behaviour abound, and Steve is a Hot Mess]
The Rift (ao3) - seapigeon steve/bucky M, 53k
Summary: Steve Rogers is used to things going wrong. He's had poor health and bad luck his entire life. He's not really sure why he thought witchcraft would be any different. Maybe because he didn't believe it was real...?
Turns out, it's all kinds of real, and now he has a ghost in the attic, a mystery to solve, and a huge crush on his roommate.

Teen Wolf fanfic recs — General / No Pairing
••••••
“Someone Else’s Child” (G) by wangler | 3,767 | After his wife’s death, the Sheriff struggles to be a single parent.
“echo in the echoing wood” (T) by Kirinin | 20,619 | The nogitsune makes its peace with being Stiles Stilinski.
“Pleased To Meet You” (T) by entanglednow | 3,774 | Stiles is currently manacled to a chair, in the basement of Derek’s house. Which is really amazingly bad for his sense of calm and well-being. “This is completely unnecessary you know.”
“Equilibrium” (T) by entanglednow | 3,023 | It turns out Stiles only gets the awesome, super-strength, vampire powers at night.
“The Whole Glass Of Water” (T) by ladyblahblah | 8,045 | Derek wonders how long the cat has, how many more people will come in looking and pass this one by. How long before someone with a solemn face and a stupid shirt takes him quietly into the back and slides a needle beneath its skin. Before he knows what he’s doing he finds himself reaching out, pulling his hand back from the latch at the last moment. “Can I take him out?”
"know where to press" (G) by wangler | 1,034 | When the Nogitsune shatters and dissipates, Stiles stays on his feet for a long, stubborn moment. He knows this is it, he can feel the end. It's not the same deep ache from before. It doesn't hurt all.
"Heavy" (G) by wangler | 846 | Eventually, it’s the sound that gets her to move. Not the sirens or the tinkling of broken glass or the slow hiss of emptying smoke canisters. The crying.
"you have to go to them sometimes" (G) by kellifer_fic | 4,534 | "Well, you're a werewolf," Stiles says. Kevin has always had a pretty good poker face, but Stiles takes him completely by surprise, enough that there's a tell-tale pause that lasts a beat too long for the, "No I'm not," to be believed.
"Those Who See" (T) by miss_aphelion | 2,369 | Peter's always been the cleverest Hale. It's why he's the only one with enough sense to be wary of Stiles Stilinski.
"Blinding" (M) by rei_c | 2,940 | "What's changed is me, I think," Stiles says. "Pack-adjacent used to be enough. But now I know that the only thing mimicking the bonds enough that they can't tell something's wrong is me and I'm doing it because it's easier to let -- easier than telling them," he says. "I'm worried. That I'd lose it. The pack."
"Tangled Webs" (M) by KouriArashi | 55,465 | Peter leaves Beacon Hills, and takes Stiles with him. It doesn’t matter how many times Stiles manages to escape Peter, because the werewolf always finds him.
"Is This A Raid?" (G) by entanglednow | 5,889 | "What do we need?" Scott asks, smothering the awkward moment with hopeful enthusiasm. As if he's determined that this will be the best day out ever. God help them. He's dragged a cart over and he pushes it helpfully towards Derek, who just lets it hit him in the thigh instead of attempting to take hold of it. "I told you to make a list," Stiles stage-whispers. "Everyone just go and find some food," Derek growls.
"Orthopedic bodyswap" (T) by Betty | 658 | Of course Derek has no idea how much work it takes to convince people you are a remorseless force of nature when you’re five foot two and cute as a button, and he’s going to ruin it all by wandering around looking like that.
"up from under the ice" (G) by wangler | 2,086 | Stiles has practiced this over and over, but never with the nogitsune actually waking up in his mind like the crankiest troll to ever emerge from underneath a bridge.
"Man's Best Friend (is Not Always a Dog)" (T) by cywscross | 9,500 | Stiles doesn't like waiting. He doesn't like it when his human-wolf has to go away and Stiles can’t follow. But Peter promised he would come back, like he promised every other time, and he always kept his word, so Stiles would wait even if he doesn't like it.
"Warring" (T) by snowdarkred | 1,053 | Stiles is sixteen and not stupid, and he knows he’s going to die.
"you bought the whole pie" (G) by verity | 1,824 | "It's tough rattling around the house all by myself," the Sheriff says. "You boys are coming to dinner on Sunday nights from now on. Erica, too. You look like you could some feeding up. Do you eat anything aside from pie?" "Yes?" Derek says. He's not really sure how they ended up here, or how all that pie went so fast.
"black water brine" (T) by detectivemeer | 1,567 | Scott dies. He dies. He stares at himself in the mirror, long after his mom left him for the night, and thinks, I’m dead, I’m dead, I’m dead, I’m dead, I’m dead, I—
"In Them There Hills" (T) by entanglednow | 1,825 | There's a strong possibility that Stiles has been drugged and kidnapped.
••••••
"Semantics" (G) by entanglednow | 886 | "My - what?" Oh my God, does he give off some sort of signal or something? And if so how does he make it stop. Him and Derek are not having a relationship, there is no relationship.
"Every Good Beta Does Fine" (G) by zoemathemata | 1,474 | 'The animal cannot abide the void left in the absence of a true pack leader and so, takes on that mantle. However, they are generally ill-equipped to be leaders and tend to be somewhat combative and impetuous. This can usually be seen in the manner in which they manage their pack and how they attract and deal with outsiders.' If that doesn't describe Derek Hale, Chris Argent doesn't know what does.
"Strings" (G) by GoddessofBirth | 1,025 | They meet at an all night diner just off the interstate. If anyone were watching they might say it has that certain secretive, intense feel usually associated with an assignation. But this is neither romantic nor sexual. This is strategy.
I'll add more as I come across them.
