RTD is so in love with David Tennant that it makes him look stupid, huh.

#listen friends i dont know what to feel #i love everyone involved #I'm so happy that Donna has her memories back and will spend the rest of her life with her best friend by her side #but that ending felt like it was straight out of a christmas Hallmark movie; my teeth ache from all that saccharine sweetness #I'll be able to justify it if RTD is setting the stage for bringing Tennant and Tate into his UNIT spin-off which seems to be in the works #if that's not the reason it's hard for me to swallow this plot twist with the biregeneration #firstly: RTD did something similar at the end of the fourth season—splitting the Doctor to “give” one version to Rose #it's a bit annoying to see him essentially do the same now by letting another version of the Doctor to stay with Donna #secondly: I missed the emotion in this #I spent a week bracing myself for heartbreak but we went a bit too far in the other direction #we got a cutesy ending where everything resolves through a deus ex machina #yet it’s those bitter and grief-soaked moments are what RTD has always excelled at #when it comes to the Doctor's regeneration and farewells to companions #it's hard to feel much about this plot development #some things should remain final and some goodbyes and endings are unavoidable #the conclusion of Rose’s arc (both from s2 and s4) or Donna's ending in s4 #were among the most emotionally intense moments in the history of television #I missed a bit of that here #perhaps if there were more bitterness in the 14th Doctor's ending if he had to pay some PRICE for this biregeneration #(like not getting his TARDIS #being told that the Fifteenth takes over the regeneration ability #and the Tennant Doctor will die of old age)#emotionally it would have provided viewers with a cool punch #without that it seems like RTD wanted to have his cake and eat it too #have a new Doctor and give his old characters a last-minute happy ending that doesn't make much logical sense #I was hoping to feel more considering how much I love these characters #but my main reaction is an eyeroll #on the positive side I really hope to see Neil Patrick Harris in the show again he was a great villain #and Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor is already so freaking great!!! <3 #doctor who

Meanwhile, in San Myshuno, Iseul gets a text from her friend Megan. Its a photo of Megan in a blue-green dress, and text asking what Iseul thinks.

Iseul: You look beautiful, Megs.💖 What's the dress for?

Megan: Thanks Issy. 💖 It's for my sister-in-law Noelle's wedding. She's marrying her boyfriend and invited Tess, me, Luna, Chrissy, and our respective kids. It's taking place at their vineyard home so there's going to be plenty of nectar and food and dancing.

Iseul: Oh okay, that sounds fun. I wish I could be there too.

Iseul: To try all those nectars and chestnut ridge food.

Megan: Yeah, I'd invite you if I could but it's family only because it's a small house and they want to do something simple. But I'll send you lots of photos.

Iseul: You'd better, Megs. I want to see all the decor and nectar and scenery. 😄

Megan: Don't expect photos as good as the ones you take though. Like these photos I took derped cause of my lamp's light. Plus I had Tessie take a full body photo to show the full dress and I look like a Winterfest ghost coming back to help her wife find love.*

Iseul: It's a bit bright but you look still adorable. 😊

Megan says she has to go, and she and Iseul text each other bye before Iseul sits back on the couch, running a hand through her hair. She tries to ignore her racing heart, and the warm fizzy feeling in her chest as she eyes the photos of Megan again. She's so stunning, Iseul thinks softly as she looks at the photo of Megan making a goofy face, her eyes bright and smile wide, with her slight teeth gap showing and adding to her looks.

Iseul closes the messaging app and throws her phone on the couch. Friends compliment each other all the time and of course you'd support your friend looking good and see them as beautiful, Iseul reasons, but a secret part of her thinks that she doesn't feel this way for any of her other friends. She tells them they look good in their outfits or that they're objectively cute but she doesn't get that warm fizzy feeling like she does with Megan. Iseul pushes these thoughts down, thinking instead of her girlfriend Grace, and her plans to go and see her later that week when Grace would be free.

*Gasp!* A romance novel acknowledged the existence of aro people!

In classic cliché fashion, the protagonist begins by saying he doesn't ever really get feelings for anybody - essentially describing an aro experience, though he's presumably allo. BUT! Instead of following the cliché by then having him meet "the right person" and finally fall in love, this author had someone immediately clock the aro vibes of that statement and directly ask the protagonist if he's aromantic! And then, instead of just perfunctorily checking the box for acknowledging aro people exist and having him say no and move on, the author has him explain that what he means by "I don't get feelings" is: "I had my heart broken and have since actively avoided developing romantic feelings at all costs" - Not: "I've never experienced romantic attraction before this one special person"

Your Minkowski Hallmark Christmas movies post made me consider: we know Eiffel hates Christmas, and Minkowski loves it - what is Hera's stance? My guess would be slightly bemused by it, probably disliking some elements while enjoying others, but I'm curious as to your take

that's pretty much what i think! there's a part in one of the AMAs where they're talking about the characters' ideal valentine's days, and gabriel says that hera cared more about it being eiffel's birthday than it being christmas, and that's kind of my. general philosophy about hera and holidays. she has no personal or cultural connection, so i think... if she cares about any holiday, it's going to be because the people in her life care about it and invite her to share it with them.

i think she might find it interesting for just how pervasive it is in american culture, especially the position it holds as like... a clearly religious holiday that insists it's not. i think she could probably appreciate the decorations, exchanging of gifts, etc. to some degree, but would find the media too saccharine in the wrong ways.

(@collectoroflovelythings said exposing hera to hallmark movies would give her some mixed messages about the "meaning of christmas", like, it was a religious holiday and now it's just about businesswomen learning to love...? and i thought that was funny.)

but also, the other angle of 'hera cares more about eiffel's birthday than about christmas' + 'hera would care about holidays because the people in her life care about them' is that i think she'd be willing to play into eiffel's hatred of christmas, even if she has no particularly strong feelings of her own, just because it makes him feel better to have someone on his side.
