Tali, 30s, Canada. (she/her)
Name: Tali Nickname: T/Tee Country: Canada Birth year: 1991 Gender/Pronouns: Female (she/her) Multi?: Totally! I'd likely be more sane (and less broke) if I liked just one group, but I'd also be missing out on so much amazing music. So yeah, proud multi right there. Can I message you?: Of course! Whole reason I started this was to help fans connect with other fans. :) I'm always up for making new friends. Socials?: I used to have a Twitter once upon a time, but I never used it. For now, I'm pretty much just active here (on Tumblr), but if I get to talking with some of you and we hit it off, perhaps we can switch over to email or Kakao. (Not comfortable with just putting that information out for the masses, though. Safety first, guys. :D) Blog URL: kpopulr.tumblr.com
— Fan since: I don't know exactly how long it's been, but I was around the age of 14 when I first got into Korean music, and everything else just snowballed from there. xD First concert: BTS (2018) — Yes, been a fan of the music for nearly 2 decades, but I was late to the game with attending concerts. I just had no one to go with, and only one other fan who liked KPop so I never even considered bringing up going to one to my parents. I wish I had though, because there are a lot of groups that I probably/definitely won't get to see now. (With that said, groups barely come to Canada *now* so I highly doubt I would've had much luck with groups I liked coming back in the early 2000s.) First bias: I'm not 100% sure —because again, it was so long ago— but my guess is either BoA or GD (from Big Bang). If not either of those two, Miyavi. (He's a guitarist from Japan.) Song that got you hooked: Again, been so long, so... I don't know if this is for sure the song that got me, but I do remember watching it A TON when it first came out. I had been listening to Kpop before this point, but I feel like this was what really got me into looking into what other groups might be out there (and I wouldn't be surprised if this was around the time I got into liking 2NE1, too.) Specifically at the 24s point I remember watching over and over and over. (Big crush on BoA back in the day, I gotta say. xD)
youtube
Favourite music genre: I listen to literally everything, with the exception of country and classical. I just never really got into it (with the exception of Shania Twain when I was younger, because that was literally the only other type of music in the house apart from gospel, so it was kind of a 'which do I not like the least of these two' situation. haha. Because I'm so all over the map with my music tastes, it was very easy to get into liking music in other languages as well. I'm grateful to Youtube coming along and bringing it all to my attention. (Yes, I'm older than Youtube. What an old fart, eh? xD)
Latest concert attended: Eric Nam, about a week(ish) ago. It was my second time seeing him. Prior to that I attended a concert from Kingdom, and next up I'm going to be seeing D&E. (Majorly Donghae biased gal right there. I'm so excited, even though I don't have great seats.)
Girl groups or guy groups?: Well, I like both, but I certainly stan more of the guy groups. (If I had any friends interested in seeing the girl groups I like —*ahem* Mamamoo... *cough* Hwasa *ahem*— and if any of them would come to my country then I would be SO THERE, but I fear even if they did come I would have to go alone, and being the anxious, socially dysfunctional person that I am... I would not enjoy that experience (no matter how incredible the concert was.)
That's all I can think of at the moment, but as the database gets built up and other people start putting up their profiles, perhaps I can get more ideas of what questions to answer and I'll update my 'bio' more.

I occasionally listen to bp, some of their songs that fortunately don’t sound like d4 cousins are good tbh. But their management surly needs to stop projecting ‘main character of K-pop’ agenda. Almost all of their TT’s recently have been sounding like ‘I’m popular what about it’ sht. And the girls lyrics are corny to the mf core. They debuted from a company that was already in big3, their seniors (bigbang and 2ne1) being legends of 2nd gen. Their initial songs had spice that distinguished them from other groups during debut before management thought it’s ok to not give them releases coz their fans will eat up whatever they give. That’s one strategy that worked and it’s literally what we seeing. They’re selling cereals as anniversary ‘gifts’ gonna laugh 🤣 for a group that’s performing so substandard backed by strong management where 3 of the members are barely interested in giving anything to their fans and only one person at least being consistent as the saving grace of the grp. Just coz they performed at coachella or bst Hyde they think they’re paving way for others? LOL. The only thing I’d ever appreciate them for is being widely celebrated as a female group but such lyrics are directly targeting bts utter bullsht atp.
yeah I’ve noticed that their lyrics are mostly about them as compared to female empowerment like they try to insist on, bp songs are about their fame, their looks and the bar girl image.

So Im a relatively new vip and Ive done some lurking into other grps and stuff but correct me if Im wrong but somehow I think Bigbang ( and other 2nd gen grps really) have a very diff vibe more “adult” than the newer grps. Like I love that BigBang dont care what they say on variety shows nor do they hide their vices. Jiyong doesnt give a crap abt the hate ppl spread abt him or BB they all do what they do I find that more genuine and I have to admit im old lol and i love that i can grow withthem
I’ll be honest, I don’t really know enough about most other groups to compare/contrast the way they behave. But from what I know, I would tend to agree with you.
For one thing, BIGBANG have had a lot of 19+ concepts, even with title songs. I think a lot of groups would be wary of coming back with a 19+ concept, whether because of their image or out of fear that the track would suffer from being deemed unsuitable for broadcast. I think most artists try to ensure that their comeback songs/performances/videos are public- and broadcast-friendly. Seunghyun disemboweling farm animals and pissing on Jiyong? I enjoyed it, but it’s definitely not the most public-friendly concept of all time. But there’s this sense of “they can do it because they’re BIGBANG.”
I think a lot of groups have good marketing teams who are very aware of current trends. They are trying to craft something palatable, something in tune with what the public already likes. With BIGBANG – and especially with some of their solo stuff – there seems to be less of a focus on delivering what the public wants to hear and more of a focus on challenging themselves, trying something new, and releasing the music they want to release, unburdened by the opinions of others. There’s always an attempt to try something new, even if there’s no guarantee the public will go for it. There’s an attempt to challenge listeners, to bring listeners on a journey with them to explore new sounds and concepts that they might not otherwise have gone for. BIGBANG don’t settle for releasing music they know will do well; they take risks and try new things. They don’t care too much whether the public will be willing to follow them (but usually it is).
Which isn’t to say that they never release songs bespoke to public interest. Bang Bang Bang, for instance, was clearly made with mass appeal in mind. But BIGBANG do not exclusively cater to the public’s taste. That’s what I love so much about them – they know how to craft songs that will appeal to the public, but they don’t limit themselves to releasing music they know will do well. They take risks. I remember Jiyong talking about One of a Kind and saying how he knew Missing You was going to be the most public-friendly song on the album and yet he chose not to make it a title song, chose not to promote it. And it turns out he was right – while the public did follow him into new territory with his title releases and his risks did pay off, Missing You, an unpromoted song, was the most successful track on the album, with 2,137,929 sales compared to Crayon’s 2,059,855.
I think what makes BIGBANG seem more adult is that they’re less beholden to public opinion. This is true when it comes to their music, as I just discussed at interminable length above, but also in terms of their attitude towards things like drinking, smoking, tattoos. They don’t attempt to package themselves dishonestly in order to have more mass appeal. I don’t think it’s that they don’t care at all about being liked, just that other things are more important to them. Staying true to themselves is more important to them.

Is sana ur bias and twice ur ult grp since they are on ur profile pic and banner?
To both; no. My “ult” group is BigBang and Sana isn’t my Twice bias. It’s hard for me to have a bias in a group (in general) since I feel like all members create a synergy that cannot be formed if one member is missing. I’ll probably change that banner/pfp every two weeks or after comeback szn hahaha

Wow it really just hit me that BB is the only grp with all members as successful solo artists. Thats so crazy and they all cover a whole range of genres. Right there thats where theres literally no comparison. Sorry I just saw your tag and it was like damn seriously lol Theyre all so freaking amazing as a a whole BIGBANG and as solos artists :D
👏👏👏👏👏YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS 👏👏👏👏👏
I know it’s super overused and they’re probably tired of saying it too but its the best comparison. Each of them are such a unique puzzle pieces where they are successful in their own way and together make this super group that have stood the test of time and change for over a decade.
You don’t stan just Bigbang but also 5 solo artists

ive never felt this way before? im not good with words so i like showing it better but ima try to explain my goddamn emotions. i feel all messed up? for those who’ve followed me for a long time u kno i have my mind and soul dedicated to jiho, and yes i do love jiyong too in fact jiyong was my ult before i discovered zico. even when i fell for zico’s music and, later on, him, i still had a small part of me still clinging to gd. after that concert-my first ever which i am still very much hungover about its been 8 days - im still shookt, i feel like my love for both of them are clashing. basically what im trying to get through to yall rn is ive never had two ults at the same time, i cant handle multifandom idk why, itll always be only one. i started with sj(kyu) then shinee(taemin) then bigbang(gd) then block b(zico), everytime i became a fan of another grp i completely move on from the former, EXCEPT for bigbang. im making a big deal out of this im sorry! this gif kinda symbolizes whatever im going through rn .am imaking sense??? im going to get over that concert sooner or later. right? holy shiz im so lost!?

Im a VIP since early 2009 and being a BigBang fan for quite a period of time, it may come off as arrogant or whatever you may think, but I admit that I have certain standards when it comes to idol groups; especially with regard to album making participation and the music THEY make, how they do in LIVE performances, individuality/creativity, and how they are on and off cam. after BB, I find it hard to like other idol grps because they all sound the same to me. I also admit that I’ve been hard on BTS as they give off a similar vibe as BB, I was extremely close-minded, yes indeed. the first songs of BTS I heard were I Need You and Dope. I thought that I Need You has a Haru Haru vibe in it and Dope was catchy. the songs were great but after that, I dismissed them off outright.
come now the WINGS era. I accidentally watched a reaction vid of BS&T mv and BAAAAAM! that was it! that was the moment I cant explain clearly. i was blown away by the aesthetics of the video and of the song itself! thereafter, I rapidly started watching videos abt them. how they adore BB so much and how they look up to them as their role model, their bangtan bombs,  performances and all other stuffs, most especially, their albums. And i know i became an instant trash when I was able to know their stage name, real name, birth year and recognize their voices in less than 2 weeks! hahahaha! thats how much i was drawn to them and they really did get my attention. (Im a law student and this is not the best time for me to discover a new grp and fangirl over them, RLY THO) I love how transparent they are: how sexy namjoon’s intelligence is, yoongi’s talent in producing; j-hope’s dancing skills (wow); V’s adorable weirdness; jimin’s cutieness and vocals as well; how much of a golden maknae Jugkook is; and how Jin is such a maknae than kookie (hahaha). I APPRECIATE ALL OF THEM. I ADORE ALL OF THEM AS A NOONA (im older than jin) i would love to have siblings like them!
ive watched too many BTS videos. I can really say that they deserve all the recognition they have right now. those recent Daesangs? i have no ounce of doubt of how much deserving they are of it. they really worked hard.  i cried with them during their acceptance speech, really. all their hardships paid off and they were able to prove themselves and to a lot of people that you can reach for something youve been dreaming of if you’ll work hard for it. (im getting teary now) in a small span of time,  i felt how much they grew with their music and as a person. most of all, i love the fact that even after all these success, they never forget about the people who helped them attain it, especially the ARMYs. That is something I really respect about them. they NEVER forget to thank ARMY every single time! i hope that until the end, they’ll remain the same: a group of talented individuals who stay grounded despite all of the fame and success.
I think this Epilogue tour was really special to them, too bad i was yet a BTS fan then. now they’re having a wings tour and i bet if it’ll be held this year in my country, i wont be able to watch it because of my studies. nevertheless, im really looking forward to watch them perform live, someday. :)
anyway, just to add in this long a$$ post, my fave BTS album so far is HYYH pt. 2 and Whalien 52 is my fave song. i consider it as a BTS masterpiece, really. the emotion in that song is so raw i always feel it every time i listen to it.  What’s yours? (to whoever patiently read this post. also, thank you from the bottom of my heart, for reading this. this is as raw as i can make to express my love towards BTS that i cant share with the people around me)

i!! just!! want!! to!! rant!!11!!1 ok so recently ive come to rlly like bts like at the state of officially gg to call myself a fan. and bc bigbang's like constantly in a state of semi-hiatus/hiatus after fantastic baby era, i kinda lost touch w kpop. im kinda gg back to kpop again and im rlly looking for a band to stan and bts happened to rlly rlly catch my eye. i think as i grew older i also became more sure in my music tastes and i definitely prefer music that has more meaning like they write w meaning and its not just some producer's work. Bts is just so good at this - their music is good, and the meaning behind what they do is just so positive and true to themselves. its not like im replacing bts w bigbang like no ofc not. bigbang will always have a place in my heart, and ive liked their songs from bigbang vol 1 all the way to MADE and all their solos. but i just want something new, something different, but all the same, perfectly unique. what better way to get into a fandom than ask an experienced fan? thats what i did. a friend has been liking bts even before debut and when they were in their underground days. it was all cool at first - understanding bts' music style and where they came from and how humble and grounded they are in being true. but then it turned abit sour. she started giving off the vibe that i didnt have as much "right" to like bts as much as she cld bc she's an "experienced" and "devoted" fan who were there for them since the beginning. she even added on to this by lowkey dissing american youtube reaction videos when they show mv's of bts/other big kpop grps and they all liked their music. she felt it was unwarranted that they cld become fans just bc of one mv. i mean, what? like rlly what are u saying? do u even know what u are saying? who said that "loyal" and "better" fans are those that stuck w them for a longer time? who?????? it sucks. it rlly sucks. because me as a new fan who wants to get to know them better, fangirl at cute moments, and just like blush on social media, feels attacked and unworthy of doing so online bc im afraid of getting judged. im never someone who rlly cared abt other fans, but somehow this made me feel like i wasnt "good engh" bc ive known them for like 2 weeks. ive always seen it online, esp on youtube comments, of supposedly "older" fans dissing "younger" fans bc they cldnt fully understand what was gg on. i never tot i wld experience it rl. and im just, why? why has kpop culture turned so toxic? i know cultural appropriation is a big thing now, but isnt this just too much???? must i rlly understand all of korean culture to feel included in a fandom? the worse part about this, is that kpop revolves arnd music. music is universal. thats why so many fans from all arnd the world like music frm different parts of the globe. what makes kpop so exclusive and different? me saying im a fan of taylor swift has a different impact frm me saying that i like btob.... this led to me thinking abt the whole kpop industry in general. kpop literally means korean pop. music. and sometimes i feel that there is more emphasis on the members themselves rather than the music. almost all videos online abt kpop are abt individual members' interactions w one another, how funny they are, what kind of personalities they have, whether they are cute or handsome, etc. this list never ends! so really, are we selling music, or is it a pretense of perfection which is backed up by how good their music sounds. "ur not a fan until uve heArd all their music, know every single one of them, dislikes and likes, habits and idiosyncrancies, etc." why cant i just like them bc they make good music that speaks to me? kpop is always changing. breaking new boundaries, digging deeper into its capabilities and meanings. i dont think anyone meant it to become such a toxic industry. and this is only from a fan's point of view. - 21:45
