RAMSHACKLE; Based on the Pumpkin King's Curiosity

Disclaimer: In my AU, Night Raven College is a College/University so all characters are aged up 4 years. There are also mentions of alcohol.

Ramshackle is one of the oldest dorms in Night Raven History and is based on one of the oldest stories in Twisted Wonderland's history. A dorm that often attracts troublemakers, delinquents, and outsiders, the dorm often houses NRC's worst of the worst. The dorm was shut down over 200 years ago after the mirror stopped sorting students there as no one was "curious enough." But after the arrival of the first female student at NRC, Cynthia Widow, the first Magicless Student, Grace Wilde, and Magic Meniace, Grim, the dorm has reopened and welcomed 10 troublemakers that uphold the Ramshackle name and embody the Pumpkin King's domain.

History

The tale of the Pumpkin King dates back to the beginning of Twisted Wonderland's history. Halloween was the King's domain, but after ruling Halloween for years and years he became bored. The kingdom filled with huants and magic was not stimulating to the king. After a visit to Winterfest domain, he felt rejuvenated and decided he would take over Winterfest! His kingdom was excited to take on this challenge, but they did not fully understand the concept. Despite the warnings from his future Queen, he went through with the takeover and put the Sandy Claws,the ruler of Winterfest, in the care of "The Boogy Man," unknowing the danger. Despite his excitement, the takeover was a failure to others but not him. He was rejuvenated with excitement and returned to Halloween with a new vigor! He and the Sandy Claws came to a truce with the aid of the Pumpkin Queen, and the kingdom reigned for years to come.

The Dorm was the second dorm to be installed to house the troublemakers of NRC. Supervised by ghost, the dorm has an essence of haunts and spooks. The dormleader and vice are the strongest mages in the dorm in magic and spirit, as they have to run a dorm of rulebreakers. The dorms uniforms are based on the residence of Halloween town dressed in black and white with the dormhead being the only member to have color in their uniform. The dorm was often made up of the exciled members of other dorms as well as those placed in it, making for an interesting combination.

After being out of commission for 200 years, the dorm has returned with a new batch of troublemakers thanks to the suddent apperence of 2 female students, a talking magic cat, and merging with Thatch Academy for Troubled Mages. The new dorm has a new style, new faces, and a new Vigor that would make the Pumpkin King proud.

Uniforms

⬇️Ramshackle’s Housewarden Uniform and Designs for the New Ramshackle Uniforms⬇️

The term "uniform" is currently very loosely interpreted by Ramshackle. It is more of an aesthetic with color rules. The aesthetic is "Delinquent Chic" with a main color of black with pops of purple and/or green. There is a variety of selections with each student having a unique uniform to embody the members of Halloween town. Some of the peices are from the students own wardobe while others are refurbished from the attic or scraps from other the other dorms. The unifying factor of the dorm is the headpieces and dorm emblem armband or patch. The headpieces (mask or hairpin) are of one of 7 designs: A witch, a devil, a skeleton, a bat, a pumpkin, a ghost, or a spider. There are a multitude of combinations that could be made and all must be approved by the dorm head and/or Professor Crewel to ensure it fits the dorm's guidelines.

The exception to this “free-for-all” as it is called by most is the Dorm Leaders uniform which was redesigned by Crewel and the current Housewarden. Current Dormleader, Cynthia Widow, has designed a purple gown and overcoat with a web collar, black corset, and spider motifs. Crewel aided in the design and recreation of this uniform. The uniform also has the "kings scepter" and the "Web Crown" which signify its holder as the head of the dorm.

There are designs for the new uniforms for Ramshackle based on the styles of the current students as the original designs were, as Crewel put it, affronts to fashion and sight. Crewel called it "prison chic" with the original uniforms being reminiscent of prison uniforms with the color palette being black and white uniforms with a pop of color somewhere, and the dormleader and vice’s uniforms being closer to "warden" outfits than the school standards. Despite enjoying the cruel joke, Crewel decided to revamp the uniforms to be less.... prisioner and more modern, fitting the current “delinquent chic” of the residence. He, housewarden Cynthia Widow, and Vice Housewarden Grace Wilde have been debating designs, with Housewarden Widow still against the idea of uniforms all together as "The dorm of CURIOSITY should be able to dress as curious as they please." So new uniforms are coming along... slowly.

Note From Administration: "To address the complaints from fellow students and parents, Ramshackle WILL be given a uniform in the same manner as the other dorms starting next year. We are currently designing and updating the uniforms. We are not giving the dorm special treatment. Uniforms will be reinforced next year."

Housewarden Cynthia Widow

Name: Cynthia (Cyn) Mazikeen Widow

Twist: The Boogy Man from "Nightmare Before Christmas"

Nicknames: Cyn - Friends; Barracuda - Floyd; Reine de l'araignée - Rook; Miss Spider - Lilia; Crowley's Dog (or Crowley's B*tch) - Some... Most Students (and Leona); Boss/Housewarden - Ramshackle Residence

Birthday: January 19th

Class: 1-B

Cynthia Widow is one of the first female students at Night Raven College, and the first student stored into Ramshackle in years. As the first member of Ramshackle, she was the defector for Dormhead, but most of the Housewarden duties are handled by Grace unless it is magical. Cyn is a half-fey student in class 1-B with a love for bugs. She excels in ancient magic and is a member of the board game club. Little to nothing is known about her past but the fact she just "appeared" out of nowhere and has a grandfather she loves and misses dearly. She is often referred to as "Crowley's Dog" as she does a lot of the mage's dirty work. She doesn't mind, though. Beacuse, as long as she does Crowley's dirty work, she can get away with a lot more than she legally should *wink wink*.

Vice Housewarden Grace Wilde (Yuusona)

Name: Grace Elizabeth Wilde

Twist: Yuu! and Jack Skellington from "Nightmare Before Christmas"

Nicknames: Gracie - Friends; Shrimpy - Floyd; Mademoiselle Tirckster -> Mademoiselle Pettie - Rook; Child of Man - Melleus; Henchmen - Grim; Anglefish-Azul (in Private)

Birthday: February 2nd

Class: 1-A

Grace Wilde is the only magicless human in NRC and is often paired with Grim, but after being provided with her service familiar, Kerby, and an alchemist ring from Trein, she is now an independent student. Specializing in animal handling and alchemy. She is the first female student to be sent to NRC and the second to be inducted into Ramshackle. She was named Vice by Cyn as she was dubbed the "mother" of Ramshackle due to her talents with troubled individuals. She is in class 1-A and the horseback riding club. She is also the founder and head of the NRC weekly book club, which she started after accepting the fact that she is never going back to her world (on the account she died there) as a way to learn about this new world through books, and force some of her friends (cough*Riddle*cough) to relax and read. She checks in on the Overblot students often as well as the new Thatch Students since they worry her, and Crowley put her in charge of getting the “comfortable”.

After the first 4 overblots and 60 visits to the nurses office, Trien, Crewel, and Nurse Pinklee "convinced" Crowely that the best way to avoid lawsuits or accidentally get the magicless human killed is to listen to Pinklee's "prescription" and get her some protection. So he gratiously gifted her a certified service familiar!

Name: Kerby the Hound

Twst: Zerro from “Nightmare Before Christmas” and Cerberus from “Hercules”

Nicknames: Kerbs- Grace, Ace, Deuce, Ivy, and Cater; FLUFFY - Ramshackle Residence; Hernch-Dog -Grim; Blobfish - Floyd; Monsieur Kerby - Rook; Good Boy/Example Student - Professor Crewel

Birthday: December 25

Kerby is a Grytrash and has some magical abilities such as his Bark (which can knock people back), he can grow 2 sizes and carry 1 person, and he can dissappere into shadows on comand. Trein and the faculty thought a magical familiar was nessassary to protect the magicless student/student-employee. Plus, they owed it to her after she had dealt with the overblots (AKA Trien and Crewel pressured Crowley for funds). Kerby service familiar is a Psychiatric service familiar that alerts her to panic attacks, aids her in difficult tasks, and acts as a protector (seeing as she has been involved in a multitude of overblots and magic duals). Grace and Kerby are the friendlier faces in Ramshackle and are always willing to provide a helping hand.

Nickname: Grims - Grace; Grimsie - Cyn; Baby Seal - Floyd; Monsieur Fuzzball - Rook; GRIMMM - Ramshackle Residence

Class: 1-A

Grim is the feline member of Ramshackle and is often seen with Vice Housewarden Grace (dubbed himself the "Vice-Vice Housewarden"). After his turbulent entrance and a rough start, he was accepted into Ramshackle and recently named an independent student in class 1-A. He has not declared a club and prefers to float around with whichever henchman he has latched to that day. As one of the original members of Ramshackle, he sees himself as a mentor to the newbies, but he is more an encourager of chaos.

Name: Reyna Francessca Bouc

Twist: Salley from Nightmare Before Christmas

Nicknames: Rey -Friends; Tiny Tetra - Floyd; Mademoiselle Electrique - Rook; Doc - Ramshackle Residence

Birthday: June 11th

Class: 2-B

Reyna Bocu is one of the 3 fey triplets that joined NRC with Thatch Academy (Romella <twst Mother Gothel> is in Pomefiore and Rhea <twist Tinkerbelle> is in Ignanhyde). The Doc of Ramshackle is one of the quieter members of the dorm but fits in perfectly. She was a master of combining science, alchemy, and magic, which got her into trouble originally. She was a child protagy with an idetic memory and a fascination with biology. She was so fascinated with the delicatcy of being that she took the idea of life in her own hands. Her lab is off-limits, but there are times a cat that is sewn together can be seen playing with an undead toad, but that is Ramshackle's little secret.

Name: Ivy Calliope Shroud

Twist: Megara form Hercules

Nickname: Ivs - Friends; Lantern Fish - Floyd; Mademoiselle Flamme - Rook; Miss Ivy - Malleus; Sis - Idia.and Ortho; Annoying Girl - Sebek

Birthday: November 1st

Class: 1-D

Ivy Shroud is one of the 25 students who joined NRC when it merged with Thatch. Ivy is the half-sister of Ignanhyde Dormleader and "Vice"- Idia and Ortho Shroud - though few would make the connection based on how Ivy acts, but if the Shrouds were somehow in the same room, aised from the hair, the likeness is uncanny. She is one of the biggest troublemakers of Ramshackle as she often starts fights and leaves school property with a very valuble and very royal Fey. She is a skilled fighter as she studied under both Captian Alina Dobbler and Professor Korra Thatch with fists and swords. She is a student of class 1-D (due to being held back in high school), a member of the Gargoyle Studies Club (She thought it was a fan club for the "Gargoyles" T.V. Series), and a serious gamer when she has time. Ivy fights for her friends and loved ones and does not back down. Despite her attitude, she is an incredible tactician and extremely intelligent (professors often comment that she would be a star student if she showed up).

Dorm Holiday Activates

Halloween Dorm theme: Haunted Doll House (Based on Coraline) - The dorm based on Halloweens KING serves up some serious flights for Halloween. They want to scare the pants off every visitor. Tho Crowley has forbidden them from doing their original idea (a recreation of Halloween Town with accurate dead bodies) because it needed to be PG-13. So Grace suggested theming there haunt after a book. What could go wrong with a Haunted Doll House, especially based on a childrens book??? (Note: Crowley Regretted this decision quickly but it was too late)

Winter Holiday: Dorm Voluntary Outing to the middle of the sea with Dr. Dobbler and Captain Alina Dobbler (Based on 'Treasure Planet' and 'The Lost Empire') or staying on campus for dorm repairs.

Beanfest: The Dorm is off-limits, but they use it anyway.

Ghost Wedding: Ivy is plotting a Missions Impossible-esque ploy to get her brother back. While poor Marsh is forced to offer himself to the ghost bride... he got slapped for having a weird smile. (Note - Marsh is a big teddy bear, and Ramshackle spent the next day consoling Marsh and telling him his smile is lovely)

Fairy Gala: Ivy and Grace are forced into Modeling.

Camp Vargas Survival Camp: Grace and Grim go to both; Luci, Estella, Benni, Lyn, and Marsh are in Athletic, and Reyna, Ivy, and Cyn are all in the Artistic group.

Weekly Game Night and Movie Night - Tournament-style weekly event for all Ramshackle members, members can bring 1 guest to have as their partner. Everyone contributes a thumark, and the winners gets the pot! On weeks everyone is poor: They switch it out for a movie (usually horror or spooky)

Summer Research Trip: The Summer Research Trip is led by the former Thatch Professors (Dr.Dobbler, Captain Dobbler, Dr. Thatch, and Professor Thatch). Since most, if not all, the members of Ramshackle and the other former Thatch students are either banned, cannot, or do not want to go home, the Docs and their wives take the students on an archeological dig in the Jungle's of the Sunset Savana. Since they are now part of NRC, the professor's extended the invitation to other students as well. The excursion last most of the summer and can stay the entire summer if they wish! (based on Tarzan and The Jungle Book)

Glorious Masqurade: Grace and Grim Go as assistance, and Cyn goes as a guest! The only reason this was allowed his beacuse Ramshackle agreed to be on their best behavior so they could make mechanical dead people! All in the name of Halloween!!! (And Marsh and Lyn were put in charge).

Playful land - Grace, Grim, Reyna, and Ivy go to Playful Land and see that Fellow has a very uncanny likeness to a fellow Thatch students... so Ivy gets in trouble "investigating" Fellow and Rey gets introuble "Investigating" the puppets and invading their privacy.

Misc/Notes

After Cynthia and Grace were admitted into Night Raven officially, Crowley went through with negotioations on obsorbing The Thatch Academy For Trouble Mages into Night Raven. He knew if word got out that there were 2 lone female students who attended NRC, it would be an HR nightmare, and the press would have a field day. Thatch has been in negotiations with NRC to join schools for over 5 years, but Thatch not only had female teachers but mostly female students. Crowley turned them down since NRC was traditionally all male, but seeing as circumstances have changed, he went through with the deal! A win-win in Crowley's book. (Extept the Anti-Magic force agent, Detective Cyra Thorne <Twst Enchantress>, attached to the school due to the students' "records." She makes Crowley nervous.)

Crowley allowed the Ramshackle Students to renovate the dorm as long as their overseers (Dr. Dobbler and Captian Alina) approve, so there are a bunch of hidden trap doors, tunnels, and a few labs in the basement that no one is "supposed" to go in but Ramshackle residence.

Cyn, Ivy, and some of the other members throw parties in one of Ramshackle's basements that people pay to go to (They basically run a club), and not everything there is exactly school-sanctioned, but Crowley looks the other way since Cyn does his dirty work.

Grace was put in charge of keeping everyone out of trouble and in one piece (Aka, she was labeled Den-Mom). So whenever someone is in trouble, they go to Grace for help (even if it is over her head). Whenever they throw parties, they find someone to distract her or make her stay in another dorm for the night.

That being said, they have a speak-easy style club run by the ghosts and Cyn. No one knows how they get booze, but it appears every Sunday at 5, and Crowley gets a new bottle of wine on his desk at 6. (AKA, he is bribed, so he doesn't mind)

Ramshackle is very protective of its Den Mom. With her being Magic-less and being not of this world, they treat her as family and protect her from those who dare look down on her (One time Cyn heard a Scarbia guy say she should be kicked out for beimg magicless and he magically dissappered... and reappeaed 4 days later scared of his shadow and trembling at the sight of the Ramshackle emblem).

Somewhere in Ramshackle is a remote to the kitchen t.v. and the person who finds it gets 20 thumarks and control of the Kitchen t.v. for a week.

The Little Cecelia - Chapter 2: Summer’s End

Summery - Every 100 years, the spirit of the Great Seven and their Rival return. After that faithful day, Azul and the tweels decided to make the grotto their new home, only making occasional visits to Alentica (Azul still feared what Rielle would do if he saw him there). The grotto had everything they needed and easy access to Grace, their new friend. She visited them every afternoon after “lessons” with a basket of food, books, and interesting contraptions. Over the hot, summer months, the four played in the waters and lounged in the comfort of their cave. As they played and relaxed, Azul and the Tweels learned much about human culture and Grace’s home, and she learned much about theirs.

Grace was the only daughter of the Lord Mouz Trein, Head of the Trein Family. Her Mama passed from a strange disease, which led to her Papa moving the family to their summer home in an attempt to “start fresh.” Her Papa worked a lot and paid her and her three brothers little mind after his wife’s death, but that meant it was easy for Grace to sneak away from the Villa and down to the beach as long as she did her work. Azul and the tweels often helped her with her work and learned alongside her.

The summer was like a dream.

But all good things come to an end.

One day, when the air was starting to turn nippy, Azul and the twins waited for Grace in the cave. She was late, which was odd for the punctual girl. Eventually, a little after the sun became visible from the cave, Grace arrived with head held low and basket drooping in her arms.

“Shrimpy!” Floyd exclaimed and swam towards her (He gave her that affectionate nickname since she often wore pink dresses and bows that were reminiscent of shrimp). His smile quickly turned to a frown when he saw her red-rimmed eyes, “Shrimpy? What’s wrong?”

Azul and Jade swam towards her, joining Floyd in concern. Azul crawled up to the beach and used his tentacles to walk around like legs. He held out his hand in concern and saw the tears brimming her eyes, “What happened? Did your brothers hurt you? Were the maids mean to you again?”

Grace looked at her friends, and the tears started to spill, “P-Papa *hic* Papa’s sending me away. H-he’s making me go to boarding school-“ she stated to cry, dropping her basket and hugging Azul tightly.

“T-they’re sending you away?” Azul felt like his nightmares were coming true. His friend was leaving him. “W-why?”

“Yeah Shrimpy? Why is your Papa sending you away?” Floyd asked as he crawled onto the beach with Jade.

Grace kept hugging Azul while Jade and Floyd hugged her legs, “H-he said *hic* p-proper young girls go to B-boarding schools to become *hic* young Ladies.” She let go of Azul and brushed away her tears with her eyes, “He said since Mom c-can’t teach me about being a lady. I have to learn from school…”

“I thought you got lessons here? What have we been helping you with?” Jade asked, letting go of her legs.

“That was just summer school. He said my lessons have-have prepared me for real school… but-but it is not lol bad, he said I’ll be back next summer!” She tried to smile through the tears as she spoke.

“When do you leave?” Azul asked, holding back his own tears to the best of his ability.

Grace was silent. She looked down at her skirt and started to fidget. She could not look into any of their eyes as she said, “T-the carriage leaves tomorrow morning…”

All were silent for a moment, processing what that statement meant.

Azul was the first to speak, “tomorrow morning? T-this is the last time we’ll see you…”

That made her turn to Azul, putting her hands onto his shoulders and looking him in the eyes, “Not the last time, Papa promised I’ll be back next summer,” She said in a comforting voice, “and he said I only have to go until I turn 18! He said that once I’m 18, I can be introduced to proper society and can assist him with his duties until I take over the household!” She tired to cheer up her friends, “That means I can stay here forever after I finish school!”

“How long until you’re 18?” Jade asked.

“7 more summers,” She held up her fingers and smiled, “And while I’m gone, I can learn more about human society and bring you guys cool stuff! Like books and coins and instruments, anything I can find!”

Azul looked over Grace. She was putting on a strong face for them. He could see the tears shining in corners of her eyes, the forced smile, and the was she seemed to shiver constantly. She was scared.

He put his hands over Grace’s and nodded, “Promise you’ll come back?”

Grace nodded, “I promise, as long as you don’t forget me?”

Azul nodded, and Floyd spoke, “We wouldn’t forget our Shrimpy!”

Grace then removed her hands and went to her basket, “I have presents for you! So you definitely won’t forget me,” she took out 3 objects, a rectangle in cloth, a circle in cloth, and a small bag. She handed each of them to her friends. Jade got the rectangle, Floyd the circle, and Azul the bag. Before she could say anything, Floyd ripped off the cloth, “They are trinkets to remember me by.”

Floyd held a golden compact. He opened it and looked into the mirror, “Ohhh! Shiny!”

“I knew you would like something shiny, and that is the shiniest thing in my room! If you look on the outside, there are little gems that make up the constellation of Ursa Major and Minor!” She pointed out to Floyd, who ran his claws over them with excitement. He then tackled Grace into a hug.

“Thank you!!” He said eagerly as Grace hugged him back. Jade opened his next, and it was a leather storybook in a chest. The cover was green with gold lettering, which read, ‘Tales of the Twelve Kingdoms.’

“It’s a storybook my Papa gave me for 8th birthday,” She let go of Floyd and knelt next to Jade, opening the book and pointing to the little notes she left in the edges of the pages, “I wrote notes on my favorite stories, and you can add ones to yours and we can talk about them when I get back.” She said.

Jade smiled, “Thank you, Grace, I can’t wait to read them.” He said softly and hugged her. Jade enjoyed discussing land history with Grace, and she enjoyed his observations and questions. The gift made perfect sense in Azul’s mind. When Jade released her, she went over to Azul and nodded for him to open the gift.

Azul opened the bag and saw the bracelet she wore on the day they met. He ran his fingers over the jewels and the words, as he did on the day they met. “Your bracelet…”

Grace took it and then fixed it to his wrist. It had to go on the end loop to fit around his chubby wrist, and it was a little tight, but it fit. “Yeah, so I can be with you all day. And if you have to deal with bullies again, or if you're sad, I can be there, even if it is just in spirit.”

Azul felt a tear spill. He hated crying in front of Grace, but he couldn’t help it. He hugged her tightly, and she returned the tight embrace.

Then Azul got an idea. He let her go and said “w-wait here,” before returning to the water and swimming back into the grotto.

He had cleaned up the old grotto considerably and organized almost all the trinkets with the tweels. But he kept his favorite trinkets in a chest next to his new octopot. He opened the chest and removed the shell necklaces he found his first day in the Grotto and a brown spellbook he had been studying. He quickly swam back to see Grace sharing some snacks it’s the tweels. She had her usual smile on her face again, and Azul did his best to memorize it.

They noticed him resurface and watched him as he crawled onto the beach. Grace was sitting on a picnic blanket and Azul sat next to her. He held out the shell necklace with his hands and said “I-I think I have a way to stay in contact despite the distance…” He opened the spellbook with one of his tentacles and flipped to a certain spell he underlined. “H-Hold out your hands”

Grace nodded and did as she was told. He placed the shell necklace in her hands then he held out his wrist with the bracelet next to them. She held the shell delicately in the same manner he held her bracelet the first time they met.

He had been studying the spell for a while, but now it was time to put it into practice, “For this to work, y-you need to repeat after me, okay?”

Grace nodded, “Okay.”

The twins watched with curious eyes as Azul began the spell, “Aruba-sprula Winds of the deepest sea,”

“Aruba-sprula winds of the deepest sea,”

“Verossa Mecora connected these shall be,” purple smoke emulated from the shell and bracelet and swirled around their outstretched limbs.

“Verossa Mecora connected these shall be.” Grace starred at their hands in awe. She was magicless (another trait her brothers used to poke fun at her), but magic fascinated her.

The purple smoke entered into the objects, causing them to glow. That signaled the end of the spell. The group stayed quiet for a moment before Azul spoke up, “If you ever want to talk to us, just say Verossa Mecora and have your hand on the shell and it will work as a communicator between us.”

Grace gingerly held the necklace to her chest. “Azul, I-I can’t thank you enough,” She held it towards him and asked, “Can you help me put it on?”

Azul nodded, finding words hard currently, and took the necklace. She turned around and held up her hair. He was shaking as he put the necklace around her pretty pale neck. All three of his hearts raced as he did so, causing his cheeks to turn blue.

The twins kept silent but gave him the ‘oh we are going to tease you later’ look, which made him even more flustered.

With the necklace around her neck, Grace turned back around with the biggest smile. “Now we definitely won’t lose touch.” She hugged Azul again and said, “Thank you, you’re the best friends I could ever ask for.”

Azul hugged her back, his grip tight around her waist. The twins joined into the hug as well. Eventually, they returned to normal, enjoying what little time they had left together.

None of them wanted the night to end, but when sunset came and Grace had to leave. The goodbyes were hard.

“Shrimpy don’t go! You can stay with us! Please!” Floyd said as he squeezed Grace.

“I would if I could, but Papa says I have to,” Grace squeezed him back before pulling away, “Don’t worry, I’ll be back next summer! And I’ll bring so many new shinnies!”

“Hmm…” Floyd let go and said “fine… but when you come back, I am going to squeeze the lights out of ya to make up for lost time!”

“I can’t wait!” Grace let Floyd go and turned to his brother.

Jade was next, and his hug, while not as tight as Floyd’s, it still held the same sentiment, “Be careful, and promise to bring back lots more books.”

Grace giggled and said, “I promise, you better bring some good books too! We can swap and talk all about our favorites!”

Jade nodded and gave her a final squeeze before releasing her.

Finally, it was Azul’s turn. They were dangerously close to the entrance of the cave, but Azul wanted to be with her as long as he could. She held her arms open to Azul, and they embraced with some of his tentacles wrapped around her as well, while others helped him stay up.

“I wish I could go with you…” Azul whispered to her.

“I wish you could too… all of you…” Grace said. She squeezed him once before leaning back, “maybe one day, we'll find a way. Then, I can introduce you to my dad and Eli, and Anthony and Danny too, I guess.”

Azul nodded and then looked down at himself, “I would like that… One day, we can go and explore the human world together.” ‘One day, I will be strong enough to stay with you...’

Grace giggled again and said, “Yeah, then you could show me your world!” The shell necklace was hugged between their chest, “I promise to talk to you every day before bed! And when I come back next summer, I will be a young lady and show you all of the amazing things we talk about!”

Azul felt his hearts swell as he looked into her enchanting green eyes, “And I promise to become a great mage! And a gentleman! A-and when you come back, I will show you all the magic I learned! I will be a brand-new Azul!”

Grace brushed a hand along the long strand of hair and said, “I know you will, but promise not to change to much, I like the Azul right in front of me too.”

His blush intensified and he pulled her close again, nestling his head into her hair. He wanted to remember this moment eternally. “It’s a deal… I’ll miss you so much.”

“Me too Azul,” She hugged him so tight her hands almost touched behind his back. “Me too…”

“GRACE!” A woman’s voice called, “GRACE! YOUR FATHER WANTS YOU AT DINNER!”

The embrace ended and Grace looked around the corner to the beach, “I have to go… Goodbye friends…” She said and ran around the corner.

“Goodbye Grace…” Azul said softly.

The tweels exchanged knowing glances and snickered, “She is really something, huh Zul?” Floyd said.

“She certainly is..” Azul peeked around the corner and watched as her pink bow grew smaller and smaller into the distance.

It has been two days since Grace left and she kept to her promise, so he vowed to keep his.

He swore to become a great mage and gentleman, so he decided to return to Alentica to go to school again, as much as it scared him.

The tweels had gone to see their parents who lived just outside Alentica so Azul was alone as he stealthily swam home. He managed to stay out of sight and was coming up with excuses to give to his mother as to explain his prolonged absence, but it was apparently unneeded.

It was gone. Everything was just gone.

Azul’s hearts sunk to the deepest part of the sea. His childhood home and his mother’s restaurant were desolate.

“W-what happened?” He swam up to where the hosts podium use to stand and saw just sand, there was nothing left. Everything was gone. “Mom? MOM? DAD? W-WHERE ARE YOU?”

Azul’s cries vibrated through the empty dining hall. He swam all through the kitchen and dining area before zooming upstairs to his home. He threw open the door and saw nothing. The furniture was gone, all the pots and pans nowhere to be seen, and all that’s left is a single picture. Azul zoomed around, calling out for his Mom, Step-dad, anyone! But no one answered. Azul went back to the living room and picked up the picture, it was a baby picture of him, his mom, and his step-dad. They were posing in front of the restaurant on the opening day. He couldn’t be more than a few months old in the picture, but his parents looked so happy.

Azul sunk down to the floor and clutched the picture close to his chest as he wailed. They were gone. They left him. He was…alone.

A few moments later, Azul saw a shadow swim over him and laugh.

“Funny, your mom made the same face when she was thrown out of Alentica without you.” Rielle smirked as he swam around Azul, “She cried and cried asking where her little fry was, but no one knew, so they just told her you were eaten by sharks.”

Azul looked up at the red-haired prince with his shiny green tail. “Why? What happened to her? Where’s my MOM?”

“Oh, you didn’t hear? Not long after you disappeared to the shore, King Tremor exiled all Octomers from the city of Alentica. Which, ya know, included your mom and her business. We gave your Step-father a chance to stay if he left her, but he went on about how she was his soulmate and wouldn’t leave her due to some silly, inhumane law yada yada. So he went with her. Sad to see a good lawyer leave, but as dad says, it must be done.” Rielle explained with a smile.

“W-why? Why did you exile all Cecelia? What have we done to-“

“Have you forgotten the curse?” Rielle circled closer to Azul, “The curse of the Sea Witch? Of all the Seven? Every 100 years, the spirits of the Sea Witch and the Mermaid Princess would return and bring about change. Whether is be vengeance for their past or righting the wrongs of their predecessor, only one of the returning souls will get their happily ever after. And seeing as I am the Mermaid Princess’ descendent, it is likely I have her soul, while the Sea Witch was a Octomer, so to protect the kingdom, and me, father decided to get rid of the problems before it starts and send them all far, far away.” Rielle gestured his hand away from him as he spoke.

Azul felt anger boil up inside his stomach and he glared at the prince, “Y-you monster. Why? Why Me? Why all of this? I have done nothing to you-“

“Oh yes you have!” Rielle got close to Azul and swam into him, making Azul back up. “You are my nemesis, my fated enemy, the one who can take away my happy ending, unless I take it away from you first.” A pale finger pokes Azul in the chest as he says, “The only Octmer child born in Alentica around the same time as me is you. You have to be the Sea Witch Spirit. You always got the best grades without even trying, magic comes easy to you, and you’re just so… pathetic. You have to be the Sea Witch. Which means you’re. My. Villain.”

Rielle backed away from Azul and smiled, “And, I’m the hero, and heroes always win. So, swim back to wherever you came from, curl up into you’re octopot, and never swim a tentacle into Alentica. Again.” Rielle started to swim away, but Azul had enough. One of his tentacle’s grabbed Rielle’s tail and slammed him into the ground.

Azul’s eyes were filled to the brim with rage, “You messed with the wrong Cecelia. One day. I will be on top. I will be the one making the rules. And I will take away. Every. Single. Thing. You hold dear.”

Rielle just laughed and jerked his tail away, “Azul, you don’t get it do you.” He leaned in and said, “I am a prince. You are nothing. Smarts and what every else you have will never be enough. I will be a King. And you,” he laughed, “You will be lucky to lick the sand off my fin.”

Rielle swam away calling, “See ya in the boneyard, Octo-twerp.”

Azul lifted his fist into the air and called out, “I-I’ll win! One day, I will have everything and you will have nothing! I-I will be more powerful than you! On land and sea! And when you come crawlin, begging me for help. I will laugh in your face! You’ll SEE!” He looked out the window and glared at Alentica, the city that spited him and that he will crush under his tentacles, “You’ll see.”

That night Azul swore he would conquer land and sea. He would be so powerful that no one could make him feel weak and useless ever again.

He would get his happily ever after no matter the cost.

MEET: Grace Wilde (Yuusona)

Thank you, @bunnwich, for the beautiful art!!! I love how she and Kerby look!!

Note: My TWST AU had NRC as a college instead of a high school, so all the characters are aged up 4 years! But in regular Au's Grace is 18.... maybe

Background: Prior to NRC, Grace was a college student at a small university in the middle of nowhere. She is the oldest sibling of 5 kids and came from a big, close nit family. She was really close with her mom and grandma as all three loved to read. She was always an over-achieving student, and her 4.0 helped her get a ton of scholarships from her university. Grace is an English-History Double major and wants to become a professor one day. All of this changed when she was hit by a car heading back to her dorm one day in an attempt to save some freshman girls from getting hit. Much like Yuuta and Yuukun in the manga, Grace died, and the black carriage took her to NRC.

Time at NRC: Once the whole opening debacle and the Grim situation are figured out, Grace is hit with the reality that she died, was sent to another world, and has no way home. Initially, it was rough, but thankfully, all the strange events kept her from mulling over all those traumatic events. Other than overblots, troublesome classmates, her dilapidated dorm, and a very hungry talking cat, she's fine. She actually really enjoys school and the challenges of being in a magic school with no magic. A few of the things that have kept her going are Ace, Deuce, Riddle, Azul, her friends, and Kerby (her Service Familiar).

The school nurse, Nurse Pinklee, with the help of Professor Trein and Crewel, convinced (blackmailed) Crowley into getting Grace a service familiar after Trein found her having a panic attack in the broom closet. Due to everything that has happened to her, dealing with so many overblots, and her being one of the only girls in the school and a magicless one at that, they made a very convincing argument. Crewel had a friend who trained service familiars and had the perfect pup. Trein and Crewel gave Grace the pup as a midterm gift (after Azul's Overblot). It was very similar to the scene in "Lady in the Tramp," Trein called Grace into his office, and a big box was waiting: A big Grytrash pup was waiting inside with a purple and green bow. Kerby, short for Cerberus, is a special type of service familiar. He helps her with bother her panic attacks and protects her from harm. On command, he can turn into a huge Cerberus with a Bark that can push people back. When Kerby is "resting" or there is no space for the big boy, he becomes a tattoo on Grace's arm. Kerby has helped Grace a lot and gives her a sense of comfort during extremely stressful or dangerous times. (Further explanation in a later post)

After Azul's overblot, Grace and Azul started to connect as she told him: "I know what it's like to be bullied over your looks, so if you want to talk about it, just let me know. We can talk, or I can listen. Kids can be awful, but I am here for you if you need... by the way, I think you were a pretty cute kid." Ever since then, Azul's heart grew three sizes for the magicless girl. Over the break, the two grew closer and by the end of the "Scarbia incident" Grace agreed to work at the Lounge (partly because she needed money and partly to be closer to Azul) and Azul worked up the courage (through relentless tweel bullying) to ask Grace out. She helps him deal with his insecurities, and he helps her deal with the fact that she can never go home. What started as a friendship for mutual gain became a loving relationship.

Before Pomefiore moved in for VDC, Thatch School for Delinquent Mages joined Ramshackle, Crowley tasks Cyn and Grace to not only continue doing Crowley-chores but watch over the delinquent students and help them fit in. Now, with a houseful of problems and more overblots occurring, things in Grace's life are chaotic and busy than ever, but fun, and she wouldn't have it any other way.

Trivia:

Much like Wendy is the "Mother" to the Lost Boys in "Peter Pan," Grace is often referred to as the "Mom" or "Mother" of the first year gang.

She is a year older than most of the first years and being an older sister in her old life, her mama instincts often take over when dealing with the first years + her friends (I see NRC as a COLLEGE, so I have aged up the characters for my au).

The "Mother" friend, she, Trey, Ruggie, Jamil, and Lilia, have a "parent-friend support chat" where they complain and can ask for help if someone's in trouble.

After the Thatch students join Ramshackle, Grace's mom-stincs skyrocket as she tries to make sure they stay out of trouble (as Cyn seems to encourage the mayhem) and help them adapt to regular college life again.

Ace, Deuce, and Grim are VERY overprotective of Grace. They see her as their sister, and no one is good enough for her. That being said, when Azul and Grace started dating, the trio tried (and failed) to stalk them on their dates, but each time, the Leeches showed up and booted them out per Azul's orders.

Grace and Cynthia are very close. Between splitting the Crowley Chores and Grim-sitting, they have a very special bond. Grace mainly deals with the overblots, but she asks Cyn for help with Leona, Azul, and Idia before Cyn herself overblots.

The reason Grace joined the Equestrian Club was because of Riddle. He agreed to join her book club as a way of taking a break if Grace agreed to join the Equestrian Club.

Riddle regards Grace as an Honerary member of Heartsyble after his overblot. The relationship the two have is odd as they are as close as family. Riddle tutors Grace to aid her in the knowledge that she was missing from not growing up in Twisted Wonderland while in return, Grace helps Riddle in "temper relocation" through writing, painting, crafting, or reading poetry, books, or plays aloud that Grace picked out.

Riddle, Grace, Deuce, and Carter are the first members of the NRC Book Club. Grace is a book nerd, and reading is her comfort in the craziness of NRC. Riddle joined because of the deal with Grace. Deuce thinks reading more will help him with his grades, and Cater joined to keep up with book trends on social media (for the aesthetic). After some time, Azul, Jade, Silver, Rook, and Malleus also join. They read a variety of books from Rom-coms (Carter's suggestion) to Classics (Malleus' Suggestion), and Grace loves the exposure to literature.

Grace and Trein have a special bond. After the first few classes, Grace goes up to Trein to talk about history because she thinks it's fascinating. Having a student who engages in class, does the reading, and wants to learn more is rare in his classes, so Trein appreciates it when she comes up to talk. Grace also reminds Trein of his stepson, Ellain, who attends RSA (despite his protest of wanting to be with his dad).

Trein steps in as Grace's Father Figure when parents are needed or it's a family-centric event. During the family days, when all her friends are off with their families, Trein offers to walk around with her and have tea while they discuss a range of things from history to her past.

Grace talks in her sleep, and when Cyn, Grace, and Grim stay with Leona in book 3, Grace woke up all three of them as she called out, "WATCH OUT!" In her sleep.

Grace always has a sewing kit, medicine, and a first aid kit in her book bag, which has been nicknamed - the black hole.
