Resentment is such a big part of Benny’s motives towards House, feeling he’s underserving to rule and shouldn’t have the right to keep the title of Vegas just because he claimed it first long ago. Say what you will, Benny puts the effort in, through honest and dishonest work albeit, but he puts in the effort. Not saying House didn’t but House had the luxury of having a lot of that effort done before the war and subordinates to do so after. House is untouchable, something everyone wants in the Mojave, if not for the power, but because of the security. House takes that for granted seeing how easy he thinks it is to buy people. Benny, a Mojave native, has to be irate about that seeing how he has seen the heights and slums of both lives.

Also with the AIs it’s so telling because in a lot of ways, Yes Man has more autonomy than House’s major personality securitrons. Yeah, Yes Man has to be helpful but he’s aware and able to be snarky and coy. Benny has an issue with not being listened to but that’s the only perimeter Yes Man needs to act on. He can’t condescend but lord you can tell when he wants to. House’s AIs serves specific and highly detailed functions but are confined to act in accordance. They are subservient to a T and are extensions of House while Yes Man really is a creation that adapts further, hence his desire for the assertive upgrade. Benny made something, or at least was okay with a helper, that can progress for itself. House made things that replicate or facilitate an era of the past and don’t hold the power to contest it.

ghost: who or what haunts your oc? what happened? How do they live with their ghosts?

the incident in the divide tied to his one parental figure in life haunts him the most. while there’s very little he remembers at all of his life prior, he remembers delivering the package to the divide and meeting ulysess. he was aware of what the package contained, what that would mean for the divide, but he ignored ulysess and delivered all the same for the health of the man who took him. though he feels justified, going as far as saying he’d do it again if it meant saving the very few people he cares for, the memories haunt him to this day. ulysess’s voice is a constant. sierra madre only amplified this feeling, he’s never been able to let go of the atrocity he committed that day. he buries it, deep down, and pretends that he’s fine.

his fight to the death with dean domino left an impact on him, as well. the man’s refusal to let go leading to his death paints a picture for quinn; that he himself can perish being blinded by grief, anger, sadness, among a plethora of other things he himself has not let go. and that, alone, hangs behind him a lot.

nightmare: what does your oc have nightmares about? how do they deal with their nightmares? do they tell people, or keep it to themself?

surprisingly, quinn doesn’t have nightmares about the incident in the divide; instead, he has nightmares regarding death and failure. death of loved ones, failure to protect either himself or them. nightmares are a reason why he gets an average of 5 hours of sleep and why, when he does have a restful sleep, he sleeps well into 12pm on good days.

his one recurring nightmare is about a white void and an ocean of blood; he has no idea what it means and doesn’t talk about it. he’ll tell andres about it sometimes, and on rare occasions he’ll confide in agnes or arcade about what does it mean to dream of certain nightmares. if they ask why, he shuts down and changes the subject.

he doesn’t really deal with it the best way; bottling it down instead, which leads to a lot of complications when people he doesn’t know are genuinely being helpful and he interprets it the wrong way. </3

do not open - would your muse do a dangerous job for a great amount of money? if so, how much would they ask for?

charlie would do a dangerous job for free just to see if he can (to the detriment of those around him) (RIP charon you’ve been missed). however he would also demand you pay him — probably at least… 150 caps, and he’ll keep bumping it higher if you let him. if you genuinely can’t pay — and especially if the job is to clear something out, because it’s a threat to you/your community — he’ll just kinda… grumble, and go do it anyway, and then come back and steal some nuka colas and ammo from you or something

keagan actually isn’t very money-motivated! he often takes ‘jobs’ for free, or refuses payment after, because he just wanted to help. the exception is when he thinks it’s something frivolous — say, asking him to go fetch something dumb from a dangerous place — or if he just does not like you, then he does expect pay

thrown away - did your muse ever find something weird or creepy in the trash?

charlie does, in fact, frequent the trash. when he first left the vault, he searched and scoured just about any container he could find, so he ended up looking through a lot of trash cans and dumpsters. he’s never found anything he’d really say is creepy, but he has nearly nicked his hands on… a LOT of used syringes

keagan once found multiple corpses piled into a dumpster in a random vegas alley. so that was fun for him

first aid - what was your muse’s worst wound?

charlie’s worst wound… hard to say. for a sniper he sure gets wounded a lot. might be once during a gunfight when he was too close to an old car; it decided to get a bit explodey and sent him flying, leaving him with a few burns, a bunch of little cuts from the car’s metal frame turning into shrapnel, and a nasty bump on the head from landing

keagan’s is, objectively, the two shots to the head he was gifted. if you asked him, though, he’d say it was when he caught a legion ripper in the hand and nearly lost two fingers, or maybe the lasting damage he has from the sierra madre cloud

I’m presuming Mark Ronson produced it (like the other songs on the soundtrack) and he fucking smashes it with the instrumentation. It goes from a slow, almost Elton-like power ballad, then it goes into double time to an upbeat, Flashdance track, and then slows BACK DOWN to end with Queen-esque grandeur, all while Ryan Gosling gives his all with one of my favourite vocal performances from him ever.

This song has layers and sections, all within the span of three minutes and forty seconds. And it’s about a man coming terms with what his actual self-worth might be!! AND IT PLAYS DURING THE BIG MOMENT WHERE HE AND THE OTHER KENS GO TO WAR AND REALISE IT WITH THE HILARIOUS DANCE OFF!

He might be just Ken, but in my heart his song is a ten.

Since I haven’t talked about any of my old Oc on this blog I’ll do the Rot Girls since they’re the most recent.

27. Forgiveness or vengeance (or…)?

Tempo is definitely a forgiveness type but not a forgetful type. She’s the type or person to say she forgives you but always holds it towards you. A sly comment here or prodding question concerning whatever slight you’ve done towards her. She won’t like keep you indebted to her for it but it feels that way with how guilty or awkward she’ll make you feel if you get too cozy around her. She’s petty.

Vivace was a sort of forgiveness type but mostly cause she used to be too scared to confront anyone. But now I think she’s more of a vindictive girlie. She has this deep seated anger at being lied to her entire life and feeling cheated makes her well.. angry. It goes farther than revenge as she doesn’t want to get even but make sure you wouldn’t try to do it again. Though it’d still have to be something pretty big, she’s not petty.

Emmie fully believes in people will get what’s coming to them, whether that’s sooner or later. She won’t forgive but she won’t act on any feelings of malice either choosing to focus it on something she deems productive. That being said she will be consciously unhelpful, cold and dismissive in a way that makes you want her to just be pissed or angry. She will treat you like you don’t exist no matter the situation.

29. What recurring dreams do they have?

Tempo kinda just has nice dreams. Her life was more unfulfilling and went against her morals, which is pretty mundane compared to the others but she still has desires. She dreams a lot of performing and living the lavish life but with everyone. All the ghouls in the wasteland being able to be happy as ghouls and party like it still was the pre-war. These dreams are most common but sometimes she dreams of her surviving the bombs not a ghoul in a vault. Being stuck in the miserable situation but being able to see all the people she knows now suffering outside.

Vivace dreams of just traveling free with her friends. So like what she’s already doing but in a world not destroyed and horrid. She never really got to live in the world before and wants a more traditional life experience deep down. She wakes up from these dreams feeling bittersweet cause while she has the freedom part now and can choose what she does and how she thinks about it, she’ll never get back the experiences she missed that were available to her.

Emmie doesn’t sleep much cause she hates her dreams. A lot of her upbringing was pseudo religious and mixed with her being cast out as a supposed demon makes her having vivid nightmares. A lot of it is guilt of her being a ghoul and having nightmares of being caught by her family and killed or going feral and attacking those she once loved as part of her still feels like a monster. She knows it’s not true but it’s guilt and a longing to go home. She has nicer dreams of starting a similar community for her ghouls companions and ghouls in the waste but they are farther and fewer between.

I love them so much cause I think we need more main female ghouls and ghouls that are like just normal about y’know. Just like they feel bad about things but it less about being a ghoul and more “god everyone is so fucking mean to me now.”

vampire killer - does your muse believe in the supernatural? if yes, do they have any proof?

quinn does, though he’s never been sure if it’s a result of his head wound or something more otherworldly at play, so at the same time he’s a bit of a skeptic that can’t trust his own account on more supernatural things he witnesses. regardless, he’s seen and heard things, but never truly explored. he likes to leave it up to his imagination; maybe the supernatural is real, maybe it isn’t, so he’s never had concrete proof— never bothered to actually seek for it, intrigued by the air of mystery.

strange music - can your muse play any instruments?

he plays the ukulele! it’s a skill he picked up along his adventures through the mojave desert during main game events; in which he found said ukulele in one of his many vault explorations. it’s old, a little damaged and scuffed and the chords needed replacing, but it worked just fine. he thought himself by trial and error, sound-picking songs that would play on the radio to teach himself how to translate the music into ukulele chords. quinn would settle down after a long day somewhere and would play the ukulele and calm his nerves, especially early on when he needed an outlet to cope and the sorts. he doesn’t play it often around people, only played it exclusively around his husband and nightstalker, and eventually around his late 30’s does he actively showcase the skill around with the addition of campfire songs.

17. how did they spend their summers/free time as a child?

alas, i haven’t talked about keagan’s childhood much! he grew up in a small town that became a small NCR post. he didn’t get on too great with his stepmom, plus she wasn’t super into parenting a kid that wasn’t hers, so he spent a lot of time out of the house once he was old enough to leave. a good amount of this time was with the. um. lieutenant…? (i don’t know appropriate military rankings) that was in charge — she had fuck else to do most of the time, so he became her unofficial assistant

30. do they smell like anything notable?

sweat, maybe. my boy got pasty pale irish skin and no sunscreen, he’s layering to high hell just to avoid sunburns (i haven’t posted pictures of him i don’t think, but he wears a scarf during the day!)

32. do they have any habits that aren’t particularly self-destructive, just maybe odd?

i thought i’d have to make something up for this one LMAO but he actually does have a few funny things he does! for one that fits the question the most: while in the sierra madre, he is, for once, very angry about his situations, and made a habit of, uh, taking it out on the ghost people. not to the point of risking himself, but… he definitely never let one get back up, iykwim
