Types of Comic Relief Characters

We all love a good funny character, but some of us just have no sense of humor and no idea how to create such a jokester! With that being said, today, I'll show you that writing a comic relief character doesn't always require hilarious quips and jokes! So, here are several different types of humorous character archetypes that you can include in your writing pieces! Just a heads up, I created the names for these types of characters, if they have a different one on the internet, I apologize! (I only did this because I couldn't find any real references on the internet.)

The Commentator - This character is just there to comment random things during situations to brighten up the atmosphere. Usually, they're really just a minor character who lacks depth because their only purpose is to make mirthful and entertaining remarks.

The Annoying One - This character loves annoying and frustrating people however they can. They tend to not take anything seriously, and in the eyes of characters, they are bothersome and irritating. But to the audience, on the contrary, they should seem endearing and witty! It's their personality that makes it so interesting to read and write about them, especially when you add more complexity to their persona! (Which is highly suggested, by the way.) Lastly, when creating this character, it's important to remember that part of the humor is derived from their words and actions, while the other part comes from the responses and reactions based on how other people react towards their antics.

The Happy-Go-Lucky Character - This character doesn't actually have to be super funny, as their main purpose is to relieve tension with their positivity! The Happy-go-lucky character is designed to appeal to the audience by appearing cute and wholesome with their upbeat energy. This way, they're typically a fan favorite! Additionally, they're often a pretty major character, so I suggest giving them some dimension! Again, they're not produced to be the most humorous type, but they're a great fit for any comical situation!

The Stupidly Smart One - Exactly like what the name states, this character is just stupidly smart. Typically, they're very impressive academically, but they lack logic and rationale. They also hardly use their abilities to their fullest potential because they have an abundance of motivation. They're often an incredible asset during any major event, but other than that, they're just there for the party!

The Hard-to-Read Character - This character archetype does not have a strictly set personality. In other words, it should be challenging to describe them with one adjective! They have a blend of several different personality traits that sometimes may seem contradictory, but it really just depends on the situation they're in! The main thing about them is that at times, it's difficult to tell whether they're joking or serious. For example, maybe they state something serious, but their expression displays otherwise. Writing this style of character will require a lot of effort and creativity, but I find that this archetype is very rare in novels so it's definitely worth a shot!

The Chaotic One (Duo) - This is an amazing archetype if you want your audience to have some laughs! I personally think it's much more fun to read (and write) about a chaotic duo, instead of just one character. This way, you can create hilarious conversations and interactions between the two! This character type lives almost solely to troll and isn't very reliable with things that don't matter to them. However, if you're writing a fantasy story, note that there is nothing wrong with giving them some overpowered abilities, as it shows more of their dimension and potential! If you're creating the duo, make sure that the characters causing the mayhem each have a separate personality. Typically, there is a 'ringleader,' who leads the shenanigans and is the most chaotic of them all. Additionally, there's usually a semi-serious character, whose job is to keep them in line. Nevertheless, they still join in the antics and reckless actions! Interactions between the two are mostly meant to be humorous, wholesome, and fluffy, so just have fun and let loose when writing this archetype!

Okay! These are six different types of comic relief characters you can use for your stories! Hopefully, this is able to serve as inspiration and/or a guide for you all! If you need any tips on bringing these archetypes to life, just ask, and I'll try my best to provide the quality information you all deserve!

Jumperoid and cleveroid

Three dimensional scene for today. Jumperoid very likes to explore everything around. And his friend cleveroid also here with him. They have climb to the tower. In the clouds. And jumping everywhere and explore everything. Two such funny characters. It can be something like simple version of Mario, if to think about a videogame.

They are living in a very interesting time and in a very interesting dimension. Here we have a multidimensional time. And it is every time very interesting. Because of here you were before. And in another time moment you were never exist. And in a next time moment it is to appear a new timeline and you are jumping at the tower. It is main to keep into this time interval. And to explore this certain space. In a certain this time line. And jumperoid and cleveroid are doing this thing. Sometimes they need to make a calculations for this purpose. But they live here for a long time. And they can easy to do this.

It is one of many worlds at the carpet of the universe. Which is changing its energy level. And change its pattern, And it shows this or that edge. And this carpet has many worlds, which are closed to itself. All of them are under influence of multi time.

Carpet – is a part of fractal universe. Which is changing all the time. But jumperoid and cleveroid lives here all the time and easy to do navigation into this dimensions. Carpet of universe – it is a plane, and some different worlds to appear at it in a certain moment of energy state. Phases of energy states are changing like moon phases. And there are lots of carpets like this on a fractal plane. All of them are multi dimensional. And you can jump into the dive. All the time you can jump into. But to get out of this you need extremely big energy. As like go dive into water. And harder to go up, cause of water pressure. And go down – it is easy.

But there are stable crystals. At this things, and carpet is keeping. And into this edges you are diving. They are stable and sink into fractal is impossible. If to jump though these worlds. And by the way, in one of these worlds, you are to appear. In a result of energy splash. And you find a friend – cleveroid. You together to explore another such stables spaces. At the fractal carpet they are all looks as squares.

And it can be a simple platformer. About walking and jumping. And to go from start to finish. Just jump through obstacles. In three dimensions. As a Mario 64. Maybe, I need to learn Unity. To make fast such demo-versions of this kind of games.

Wildrun and Jak's Beginning Rivalry

Because I think its funny, and I had to look up several things for this. (Spoiler Alert: In this scene Jak is incredibly petty and purposefully annoying)

“Really? This guy?” Wildrun pointed to Jakkon. “He’s our most important member?”

“Technically yes…” Khaz paused with a sigh as Jakkon shrugged, watching the kid with calculating eyes.

“I’ve seen him! He’s a drunk!” Wildrun glared at the older man and then Khaz with an exasperated look.

“So what if I am? What’s it to ya little ghost?” Jakkon smirked at Wildrun.

“You disgust me.”

“Do you think I care kid?” Jakkon raised an eyebrow. “I’m an adult, you’re like, ten. I can do what I want.”

Wildrun huffed in annoyance. “Does he have to be here?”

“I’m your most influential member kid. I’m the one who’s got connections. You need me!” Jakkon crossed his arms with a half-smirk.

“You’re lying! We don’t need you! Face it. You need us for money don’t you?”

“Ha!” Jakkon barked a laugh. “I can guarantee you I make twice the money in an hour than all of you combined have ever seen in your lives!”

“Then what do you hope to gain from this?” Wildrun glared at Jakkon.

“Entertainment. I’m really fucking bored. And now because of you I have even more incentive to stay.”

“Why?!”

“Because you're easy to piss off you vacuous dirt-eating little wastebasket.”

Wildrun paused for a moment, narrowing his eyes in confusion.

“If your tiny little stone-age pea brain didn't pick it up, I called you stupid, airhead. So why don't you walk your sanctimonious, craven, obstreperous, dim-witted flighty Blue collar bitch ass out of here!”

Wildrun stared at the Satyr for a solid second as he smiled smugly and turned to Finn. “Is he always like this?”

“Just when he's being petty. I can't admit that he's right about us being low class because none of us know what half those words mean, but that's why we need him.”

“What the fuck.”

Funniest Group

In Jakkon & Rose's universe, they have two other members of their group

Finn: Jakkon's previous best friend-turned nemesis when he rescued him from the fire that killed Jak's family (Jak blames him for not being able to save them) But they eventually forgive one another and become begrudging allies

and

Pherun: The Little boy who looks just Like Jak's son because someone thought it would be funny to trigger his PTSD. Jak has now pledged his life to protect this child in a: "If anything happened to him I would kill everyone in this room and then myself" scenario

They make the best group because sitting around a table talking here's how their food/drink situation goes:

Finn - Salad and Water

Rose - Something sweet and herbal tea

Jak - Literally just a bottle of wine

Pherun - A sippy cup full of orange juice and a bowl of mac-and-cheese
