Sometimes family is an overly confident highschooler with inhumane strength who is also a secret agent and collects traumatic backstories like pokemon cards, her artificial eyeball who’s too cute to be a shrimp, her adoptive father who is an addicted to pornography loser and also is a secret agent who likes to disappear for 6 years from time to time, her Boss who adopted her after the loser disappeared, Boss’ adoptive daughter who is also a secret agent, is a victim of human experimentation, looks exactly like the highschooler, has the same name and the same inhumane abilities as her and also highschooler is her clone (don’t worry about it), her NB artificial eyeball who looks like a blob and I love them, the most pathetic man alive who woke up one day and decided to ruin lives of not one, not two but four people, is also able to speak languages but it’s because he almost achieved the enlightening (don’t worry about it), his artificial eyeball who looks like a ghost of S&M pervert with police uniform fetish who died in a tanning booth, a mad scientist who most certainly isn’t paid enough to deal with all of those people, an internet idol who’s still on her bullshit, even though she’s cured of her brain cancer and also is half sister of ANOTHER serial killer (don’t worry about it), a 30 year old guy who looks like he’s 15 and gladly got his shit together and reopened his parents’ business, an aspiring internet idol who is a genuinely sweet person and her career ended before it could really start because of her spinal injury and it’s just so damn sad when it happens, the world’s most decent man alive who saw aspiring idol’s dance once and hasn’t been same ever since, has been supporting her for 6 years after she lost ability to walk, an immortal boy (don’t worry about it) who’s immortal because he’s a victim of human experimentation, and is really passionate about robots, a Quasimodo who might be the strongest man alive (don’t worry about it) because he’s a victim of human experimentation but has become a cook, and a random background character from the first game that was turned into one of the most compelling characters in the whole narrative.

I can't keep being fundamentally changed as a person by animated movies, it's just not sustainable.

i'm sorry but i don't think we should call this the "autism website" when there's still posts with tons of notes mocking people who:
struggle with social skills / have anxiety around social settings
are unemployed / unable to work certain jobs
have intense or "age-inappropriate" interests
haven't had certain life experiences that are deemed universal/essential
struggle with personal hygiene
don't have any friends or dating experience
don't go outside much or at all
take things literally / don't get sarcasm/jokes
have unusual ways of speaking
generally aren't "normal"

Today my therapist introduced me to a concept surrounding disability that she called "hLep".
Which is when you - in this case, you are a disabled person - ask someone for help ("I can't drink almond milk so can you get me some whole milk?", or "Please call Donna and ask her to pick up the car for me."), and they say yes, and then they do something that is not what you asked for but is what they think you should have asked for ("I know you said you wanted whole, but I got you skim milk because it's better for you!", "I didn't want to ruin Donna's day by asking her that, so I spent your money on an expensive towing service!") And then if you get annoyed at them for ignoring what you actually asked for - and often it has already happened repeatedly - they get angry because they "were just helping you! You should be grateful!!"
And my therapist pointed out that this is not "help", it's "hLep".
Sure, it looks like help; it kind of sounds like help too; and if it was adjusted just a little bit, it could be help. But it's not help. It's hLep.
At its best, it is patronizing and makes a person feel unvalued and un-listened-to. Always, it reinforces the false idea that disabled people can't be trusted with our own care. And at its worst, it results in disabled people losing our freedom and control over our lives, and also being unable to actually access what we need to survive.
So please, when a disabled person asks you for help on something, don't be a hLeper, be a helper! In other words: they know better than you what they need, and the best way you can honor the trust they've put in you is to believe that!
Also, I want to be very clear that the "getting angry at a disabled person's attempts to point out harmful behavior" part of this makes the whole thing WAY worse. Like it'd be one thing if my roommate bought me some passive-aggressive skim milk, but then they heard what I had to say, and they apologized and did better in the future - our relationship could bounce back from that. But it is very much another thing to have a crying shouting match with someone who is furious at you for saying something they did was ableist. Like, Christ, Jessica, remind me to never ask for your support ever again! You make me feel like if I asked you to call 911, you'd order a pizza because you know I'll feel better once I eat something!!
Edit: crediting my therapist by name with her permission - this term was coined by Nahime Aguirre Mtanous!
Edit again: I made an optional follow-up to this post after seeing the responses. Might help somebody. CW for me frankly talking about how dangerous hLep really is.

losing my actual mind rn
i had this interaction in the dropout discord (i am the first and third person). short. simple. i only got the first year bc of a discount + a gift card i had, so i was planning on using this person's suggestion.
then, i got this.
oh my god!! how nice!! how sweet!!! how thoughtful!! i gave them my email and they sent over a subscription, i thanked them profusely. i was very grateful, very touched.
hours and hours later i was still thinking about it and i recalled how, in the email id gotten about it, it said "tao yang sent you a subscription" and id seen that and thought "oh haha like the tao yang" and then moved on
but now, thinking back, i was like.... theres no way, so i googled tao yang.
......
TAO YANG BOUGHT ME A FUCKING ANNUAL DROPOUT SUBSCRIPTION
