Fellow autistic people, I require your assistance.
For my college English class, I was tasked to perform field research on an area of study of my choosing. I selected autism diagnosis and gender, and so I created this survey for that. If you are autistic, it would be greatly beneficial for me if you took it; the bigger the sample size, the better. Thank you :)
The survey:
It’s anonymous, in case you’re worried! Once again, thank you, and have a nice evening :D
idk i find that a former panopticon prison is the worst thing to turn into an amazon office.
even the idea of a mall is not as bad. but a single large company, esp one known for horrific working conditions and surveillance, choosing to outfit a prison as an office feels grotesque
It's not actually Amazon that repurposed it: according to the wikipedia, a third party did the restructuring with permission from the government - since theyre such unique buildings, all 3 extant panopticon complexes have monument status and need special permission to make changes or renovations to, I suspect that's why they havent even replaced the cell doors - and several companies of varying sizes rent out the spaces, among which, at some point, apparently, Amazon.
(plus a cinema in the basement)
like i said, its a fun visual metaphor and that's why i reblogged it, but in practice i wouldnt mind working there for a different company, honestly
This is for the people who didn’t party in their teens and twenties. For the people who didn’t have that “coming of age” movie experience with shenanigans and revelations. This is for the people who mostly keep to themselves. Who maybe prefer things to be quieter and gentler. This is for the people who don’t feel like they belong in a culture that values loud parties and flashing lights. I see you. And you are valid.
Rapper Macklemore posts on Instagram a song in support of Palestine called “HIND’S HALL” that will be on streaming platforms soon and all proceeds will go to UNRWA
If I can recommend you do 1 low-effort thing for the love of God it is this:
Keep 5 cards in your pocket. One will say "yes", the second will say "no."
If you lose your voice, or lose speech, or want to make a dramatic embellishment at the right time, it is an elegant and efficient solution that is right there at hand.
But what if people question you from there? "Why do you have that card? Why would you do this? How long have you had that in your pocket?" For this, or whatever else they say, the third card: "I don't have a card for that."
"What the fuck," they ask. They laugh. They are bemused. You bring the energy back down with the fourth card: "I have laryngitis. I've lost speech. My throat hurts". Whatever you expect to occur.
The joke is over. Rule of threes. Now they are curious. They wonder about logistics. "How did you know I would say that? Is everyone so predictable?"
As a three-part bit, nobody ever sees the fifth card coming.
Hind Rajab was a 5 year old girl in Gaza who was killed while she hid alone in a car, along with the paramedics who tried to rescue her. Yesterday students at Columbia seized the administration building and renamed it in her honor.
