Been thinking recently of Barts backstory and how the events in his life would fit into a timeline.

Edit:

I’d created this before Episode 80, where they delve deeper into Bart’s backstory, (which is completely different then what i’d written here.) so im changing it and ig consider this a Stinky Dragon Adventures AU? Since I like to think of that series as an alternative timeline

Bart came from Tetora, was placed in the orphanage, found Gum Gum, became a pirate on the Jebediah, and then went back to pick up Gum Gum again.

In an episode where Bart infiltrates an orphanage, he explains how he’d been taken in by a not-so-good family, so he ran away and went to get his real family (Gum Gum).

Timeline:

I like to think that Bart had a few years to get to know Gum Gum and help raise him in the orphanage, teaching him simple things like how to count and the ABC’s.

Eventually, Bart gets adopted, asking the family that chose him if Gum Gum can come too. The family isn’t subtle with their disdain, raising major red flags. Bart is crushed, forced to say goodbye to his one and only friend. He’s adopted against his will, realizing later on how neglectful his “family” is.

He runs away, becoming a pirate on the Jebediah after being found by Marge. Bart lives the best years/months of his life, but every night he can’t stop thinking of the baby half-orc he left all alone in that orphanage. The guilt becomes all-consuming, as well as the hunger that he has to make a name for himself; something he can’t do by being a member on the ship.

He bids Marge goodbye, telling the crew that he’ll see them again some time in the future.

Once Bart finds the orphanage, he’s relieved to see Gum Gum still there, but shocked at how much he’s grown. Gum Gum doesn’t recognize him at first, and Bart realizes he must have changed a bit too from his days on the Jebediah. But after a second or two Gum Gum lights up, scooping Bart up into a big hug.

People are kind because once my bag broke coming home from uni so I couldn't take the tube because I couldn't carry it all and my phone died and I had to load all my stuff into a taxi instead and the taxi driver was ok with driving me out into the country even though it meant she'd get basically no fares all the way back and she talked me through my awful panicky day for the whole ride and then I left my wallet on the floor of her taxi and didn't realise, and three days later I was about to take the train and I needed my wallet but I couldn't find it and I was about to absolutely lose it when I noticed a package. And the taxi driver she had remembered my name and found my address and sent it back to me. And she had paid extra to make it tracked post to make sure it wouldn't get lost in the mail. So the worst thing could have happened so many times (lost in the city with a dead phone and belongings spilled out on the street worst thing, losing my wallet and so my tickets and my train worst thing being afraid to ever take the train again frankly worst thing). But it didn't.

#people are kind because of one time I mentioned to the woman at the travel lodge how hungry I was (late night asking her to microwave #my tesco burger long day not enough food) and she stole me a pan au chocolat from the breakfast bags for the next morning that I hadn't #bought myself and said she'd probably get in trouble for it but it didn't matter #anyway I remembered this taxi driver today and it shook me to my core

not really. she most likely knows how to find food better than when she was a slugcat. like knowing which roots can be eaten, which leaves, how to make use of small worms n bugs in a more efficient way than a slugcat would- this girl knows how to cook and has farmer knowledge. she might start growing things for herself too

besides that she has people to hunt with (makes friends with local scav tribes, she has Orion, Haboob and Notos [specifically with the overseer] to help her out), she has a shotgun that she's skilled with, relatively nearby the Root there's a lake and she has knowledge from highly advanced society how to make traps and nets. not to mention her technological education and skills

batflies/bluefruit make up such small percentage of possible food available to her that crossing them out of the list for Boreas' sake doesn't hurt her basically at all

Person A is a recently reawoken god of health and bountiful harvest, and decides to travel across the world to learn more about how humans are eating these days and is a little appalled at what their feeding children in school, so decides to get a job as a lunch attendant for a decade or two at various school locations along their travels and use their powers to provide healthier meals to the children there. Person B is a student who noticed Person A wasn’t aging, and worries Person A is a demon targeting children and feeding them dangerous things, and so makes it their life quest to follow Person A’s travel patterns after they leave high school and try to catch Person A doing something demonic.

What's JMAH!dreams relationship with food? Because here he can’t hide any or store it away since he doesn’t have a chest and with his fucked up relation to sam does food ever become something he can’t eat without sams permission (im thinking after he has escaped)

Oh yeah, JMAH!Dream absolutely has a fucked up relationship with food that's a little different from canon. We touched on this a little bit in this post, but the long and short of it is that everything is strictly under Sam's control. While Sam is much more hands-off than Quackity when it comes to the torture, he's more hands-on for basically everything else, and food is absolutely one of the things that is included in this.

No guards are involved this time around and no Quackity to interfere, even with Sam's permission, by using food in the torture - everything is about Sam and what Sam thinks Dream deserves. In the first timeline around, part of the reason why Sam was willing to be a little more lenient with the food was because of the brutality of the Quackity sessions and his knowledge that Quackity had a tendency to be careless, sometimes - giving Dream potatoes that he could hold onto during sessions would be insurance against him dying as easily in the face of Quackity's wrath. This time, though, Sam is not going to put up with the disrespect and rebellion of Dream's hoarding habits - Dream eats when Sam says, or not at all. Same with water.

And yes, JMAH!Dream's relationship with orders and being given permission is a whole different beast than c!Dream's are in canon. Even c!Dream does have some tendencies - when c!Sam demands things of him in the Daedalus arc, you can see him holding back, sometimes, from giving back answers that he starts to say just because Sam asked. After the time travel, though, the whole point of what Sam was doing was to make Dream more obedient, more responsive to instruction, more behaved. Everything that he did or didn't do was supposed to be in answer to Sam's demands, and there were absolutely tests that specifically were meant to hammer in this point (the dispenser dropped the food, water, but Dream had to leave it until Sam said so - etc.)

As a result, JMAH!Dream struggles a lot post-prison with being given orders and what to do with the absence of that. After so long with no agency or autonomy whatsoever, coping with a world that hinges so greatly on his choices can be terrifying.

It was midday on a chilly Saturday and the mall was packed. People bustled back and forth as they entered to do their shopping, and not a single rushing person seemed to take notice of the lone four year old sitting off to the side.

Benkai’l sighed and pouted as they sagged against the brick, shivering a little as the cold stone soaked into their skin. They rubbed their tired eyes with one pale hand, the other clutching the arm of a worn and singed teddy bear. Grey gaze flicked to the entrance again, tiny legs swinging back and forth as they waited on their perch.

The same place they’d been sat for the past four hours.

When they had all arrived their uncle had dragged them over to this spot told them to stay there until the rest of the family came back. They hadn’t argued, even if they would have loved to go to Build a Bear and McDonald’s. As the man said, they were lucky the family had even taken them in after their parents died in the house fire two years ago and gave them a roof over their head, lucky enough to be allowed their bear and given their cousins hand me down clothes. They should be grateful enough for all that and like it.

And they were, hence, why they stayed put.

They did hope the family came back soon. They were tired and cold and hungry.

The child pulled at the black beanie on their head, hissing and whimpering slightly as the material pulled at the wound on the side of their head they had gotten last night. Their aunt had shoved the hat on their head to hide it - though given the crowd didn’t give their scruffy appearance or their inadequate clothing for the weather or the bruises in amongst their freckles a second look, that may not have mattered much – and whilst they were fine with that this morning, now it was just annoying. The material around their injury was wet and sticking to their head whilst the skin underneath was super itchy, but it hurt to try and scratching.

To try and take their mind off their sore head, off their rumbly and nauseous tummy, off their tired and cold body, they went back to people watching. There wasn’t much else they could do after all.
