hellooooo! i read a lot of buck/eddie fics, literally everyday, and earlier this december i thought "why not share some of my favorites that i have read this month?" so here we are! i couldn't include everything i've read and enjoyed, the list would be really long. but i've picked a few fanfics that i've read (for the first time) in december that were really huge favorites and stayed with me for a little while these past days/weeks. i will try to make these on a monthly basis, because fanfic authors deserve all of the recognition! oh, and happy new year!

The chances of being struck by lightning twice are incredibly minute, but Buck still manages to pull it off. During a double date with Marisol and Natalia, nonetheless. Eddie manages to resuscitate him, but as Buck recovers from yet another trauma, Eddie can’t help but notice there’s something very different about him. He’s not quite sure what version of Buck he got back.

this fic is absolutely incredible. i couldn't put it down once i started. it's extremely well written and brilliantly planned out. the angst is heavy but so is the reward: this is an amazing story. easily an all-time favorite!

another exquisite fic from this author. they never miss!! this one explores a dynamic i don't read that often (sub eddie) but it works SO well here. extremely well done, as usual. i also absolutely love this buck here.

In which there is some unexpected making out, some pining, one third of an existential crisis and a lot of unhelpful advice. Not necessarily in that order.

they are GIANT disasters in here! really loved the humoristic tone of this whole thing. i just wanna shake them and yell learn how to communicate properly damn it!

buck, eddie, and ravi survive a plane crash, and it's amazing. incredibly well written, i was hooked from the very start and couldn't put it down until i was done.

incredible concept!!! all the moments chosen for eddie to revisit are perfect and make so much sense for his character. this was such a great read and an absolutely amazing character exploration fic.

Set post-Season 6, where Buck has inadvertently sacrificed his friendship with Eddie in order to focus on his new relationship with Natalia, and is shocked when Eddie comes out to the team and subsequently reveals that he is dating a guy.

okay so i literally read this in one sitting and went to bed at 7am to finish it. i couldn't put it down. the angst is SO good and frustrating and delicious and painful. but the payoff is so worth it!! this is really really really good. i loved all the dynamics, especially eddie and karen's friendship.

Happy Fan Fic Writer Appreciation Day 2023!

In honor of this day, here are the first lines of fics written by some of my favorite One Direction fan fic writers! This post gets longer every year, but we are incredibly lucky to have such talented writers writing fic for our fandom. I truly just had to stop somewhere though. (You can find previous year’s lists and my other recs here.)

Harry stretched in bed with a smile.

“Ah!” Louis hissed when the needle touched his finger.

Wanted: Dog Walker.

Harry’s stomach growls as he walks down the pavement toward Mercury Chicken.

Louis woke up to someone grabbing his ankle and tugging lightly.

Everyone is expected to be back in the office a minimum of two days a week starting the first full week of December.

Harry is drunk.

Louis is late.

Harry leans his forehead against the thick glass window, peering into the nursery, trying to figure out which one of the babies is his.

The first time Louis sees him, it’s from the stage.

Oli can't remember a time when Louis Tomlinson wasn't an integral part of his life.

“This is really good, mate.”

Harry had always fantasized about being in a romantic comedy.

If you had told Louis Tomlinson a year ago that he would be celebrating his birthday by kissing the man who has turned out to be the love of his life on a Church Street park bench in Burlington VT (where he now lives) as the snow drifts softly down, he would have told you that you were extremely imaginative.

He was back.

Louis Tomlinson is in a foul mood.

“Doctor!” Harry’s voice calls from deep within the recesses of the TARDIS’ vast wardrobe, the room shaped like a massive wagon wheel with a lounge in the center. “I think I found it!”

When Harry hurt himself in front of all of his coworkers, he thought his Christmas Eve couldn’t get any worse.

Louis surges forward, his arm shooting through the automatic elevator door on a reflex when he sees a familiar looking woman striding towards the elevator.

Louis opened the door, carefully pushing against the old wood on its rusty hinges.

It was a once in a lifetime storm; a hurricane had come to the Mediterranean.

Louis is running late for coffee with his mates.

“Don’t.”

Thunder cracks through the inky sky as Harry scurries into the bar.

The studio lights were bright.

“Are you fucking with me?” Louis wails, then metaphorically claps a hand over his own mouth.

Seven.

“Lou, I have an idea and need your help.”

Louis is three pints in when he notices someone looking in his direction.

They’re about to be caught.

If there was anything people needed to know about Louis, it was that he was not a morning person.

It was a nice normal day.

Louis fidgeted in his seat, his knee bouncing from the force of his pent up energy.

Observant.

Louis slams his tray on the slightly sticky table and pulls back the chair.

It starts, as any great story starts, at a dinner party.

Harry relaxes in the bathtub, sliding down so the water covers her shoulders.

Louis nervously tugs at the collar of his shirt.

“Thanks for shopping at Victoria's Secret. Have a great day!”

Harry couldn’t breathe.

Louis has been single for 369 days, and the last place he wants to be is at a wedding.

The moment Harry clocked in, he was already rolling his eyes and wishing he could clock out.

Louis was so fucked.

Harry hummed along with a song he didn’t know the words to as he changed Max’s diaper before bed.

there's a trans sy fic i've been trying and failing to find and its driving me nuts

i know it's by an author who has at least one other highly-kudosed fic, that's probably how i found it. in the fic, sj was actually transmasc which sy was shocked about upon transmigrating. then after the alliance sy starts going out dressed as a woman, totally for "disguise practice" to evade binghe, and not because of any gender feelings! this of course doesn't work, and bingqiu have a happy ending, with sy (either vaguely or fully, can't remember) coming out as transfem

The cold wooden floorboards felt strange beneath my bare feet. In ghost form, everything felt slightly different... like the physical world had a different... energy about it. It was one of the reasons I liked my gloves and boots so much – they made me feel slightly more normal.

aaaaaa i found my First Ever danny fanfic art while going through some old art files! it features- the lasso tool! and limited colour palettes! drawing experiments from 2019 when i was So Tired All the Time!

Spellbound by @itsreallymea remains one of my very favourite fics. (harry potter xover that goes into magical creatures rights; peeves, fred, and george shenanigans; some good snape mentor-type dynamics, and wonderful hufflepuff ocs. seriously seriously wonderful ocs and and an interesting perspective on cedric. the dots that are connected in this fic are incredible.)

I love LOVE everything else they write- I reread Diversity once every year (ghost whisperer xover) and have been reading Ghosts of Gotham which is their most recent work (batman xover where danny is So Done).

"Hot" Gen or Teen fic recs please?

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with some ficrecs. See, I don't usually read G fics, and I rarely read Teen fics. I like smut, but like - not just for the smut? Porn with plot is a closer description.

I read E and M fics usually because the *emotional* hits from sexy times are more guaranteed if you know what I mean. However. I know there *can* be some searingly hot things written where there is no actual sex happening? Kinda the Jane Austen vibe I guess (although I've not read any actual Jane Austen personally - I get the jist of it).

What I'm looking for are those Gen or Teen fics that, with the way they are written - are actually super hot? Like, so much pining and longing and then a simple kiss and it's like fireworks. But because it's *only* a kiss or a hand touch or whatever it gets classified as Gen or Teen but really it would give me those brain hits that I'm looking for if I knew it was written like that.

Does anybody understand what I'm talking about here? I would love to read some of these but I have no way of knowing since I usually avoid them. Thanks if you can help

The man turned around; a head shorter than him, a couple strands from his messy mohawk falling onto his forehead. He looked at Ghost, blue eyes getting larger by the second. He had to repeat himself.

“Can I get an Earl Gray?”

“Ah- Hi, uh- Yes, of course. What size?”

“Large, please.”

“Huh, ‘course you want it large,” he muttered.

Ghost was painfully aware of the fact that he still had the headphones over his ears and that the man in front of him probably thought he had music loud enough that his mumble would go unnoticed.

Alas, he couldn’t stop his eyebrows from rising up into the air.

[Ongoing] [explicit] Werewolf!AU

There weren’t many things Chrissy Cunningham could say with absolute certainty. But here, in the Hawkins forest on Halloween in the year 1985, she could say with crystal-clear, blood-freezing certainty that she was facing a werewolf.

This fic's mystery has me grabbed by the throat. The author is absolutely great at creating suspense and leaving just enough hints to wonder WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. Also, the steamy scenes are absolutely excellent. Unfortunately, the author updates once a fortnight, which has me crawling up my walls. Just know that if you start this fic, you'll be absolutely holding your breath for every single update.

"Pom poms and metal music" by @i-used-to-wear-the-fedora

[Ongoing] [Teen and up] Cheerleader! Eddie AU.

Eddie is failing his P. E. class spectacularly so in order to save his year he needs to join the cheerleading team. Chrissy, of course, adopts him with open arms and the chemistry starts making sparks flying between them. This AU is also canon compliant, and things starts to go to shit when Vecna shows up.

Chapters are short and light, excellent for people who want something easy to read and quickly to digest. Found myself reading this one a lot late at night to help me wind down.

[Ongoing] [Explicit] Mute! Chrissy

Shifting tones a bit, this fic is about the difficulty of the healing process after severe physical and mental trauma. This is an AU in which both Chrissy and Eddie survive but just... barely. They are both recovering but the healing process is long and hard. When Chrissy wakes up she discovers she's mute. This is a fic about her journey into finding her voice again.

Not gonna lie, this fic is a bit heavier to read. It's less of a fun ride and more of an exploration of the recovery process. One thing I really adored was the nuanced and interesting portrayal of Laura Cunningham. I also appreaciated that the author didn't gloss over Eddie's trauma. Chrissy's trauma is a given, but I haven't seen authors delve into Eddie's scars, had he survived the upside down.

Also, not everything is sadness, there's a dnd scene so good and so fun that it made me want to play dnd! (for the record i have no idea of how to play).

"Have you seen her dressed in blue?" by @empress-of-snark

[Finished] [Mature] Nice! Jason

Now hear me out. I know you read the words "Jason" and "nice" and said nope but just HEAR ME OUT. Eddie and Jason are childhood best friends in this AU, and that makes everything EXTRA angsty when Eddie finds himself in love with his best friend's girlfriend. The DRAMA of this fic is chef's kiss. Cue the worst pining you've read in your life, FROM BOTH PARTS. Truly worth of telenovela standards, and my latinamerican ass ate that shit right up.

Also, himbo Jason is a gift that keeps giving. He's so nice and so stupid and basically a human shaped golden retriever. You'll finish this fic and actually feel sorry for him. Good thing the author is planning on making it a series, because i NEED some poetic justice for him, or at least some closure. My boy deserves it.
