notes: this first chapter is mostly just exposition (and a little sad i know), but at the very end you get a sneak peak of the action before everything turns totally cray. (there will be more defined logan x parker in the future chapters as well.) parker is supposed to be the "reader" character. i decided to use a gender-neutral name instead of y/n because that's not my thing. she/her pronouns and feminine descriptions are used, but her gender is not a major plot point at all, so you can totally still read this imagining parker however you want. i hope you enjoy!

“God, it’s so weird just going right back to school like nothing’s even happened,” Parker started.
“Yeah,” Logan agreed. “Five fucking kids are dead, but science! Calculus! English!” he finished mockingly.
“Well, four,” Oscar corrected him, Lily nodding along.
Logan let out a large exhale and nodded. “Crazy he survived that shit considering how fucked up the rest of them were.”
“Well, you know what they say about quiet kids,” Arthur chimed in. The other five immediately turned to look at him in confusion.
“What?” Fred questioned incredulously.
“What?” Arthur demanded. “They’re like actually really cool and badass and stuff.”
“Huh?” Logan inquired with a furrowed brow. “I thought the thing was that they’re like… kinky and shit.”
“Mate, what the fuck?” Arthur responded defensively. “Why would I say that?”
“Well, that’s like the thing people say,” Logan bickered. “I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about, but I’ve never heard anyone say that in my entire life.”
“Shut the fuck up,” Arthur retorted, making them all burst out into laughter for a brief moment before they all returned to a somber silence when they remembered the conversation that led them here in the first place.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to walk you to class?” Logan pressed, his pleading tone making it obvious that he was asking for his own sake instead of his girlfriend’s.
“No,” Parker laughed him off, pushing his chin off of her shoulder and his arms from around her waist. “The health room is all the way on the other side of the building. You’ll be late. Again.”
“Yeah, well-” Logan began to protest before his newest complaint was interrupted by a loud crack behind him that made the both of them jump. They turned around to see Zhou Guanyu staring back at them guiltily.
“Sorry,” he started to apologize “I just dropped-”
“Oh, no, that’s okay,” Logan interrupted, as Parker reached down to pick up the textbook that fell from his locker.
“Thank you,” he said with a shy smile when she handed it back to him.
“No problem,” she reassured him, returning the expression. “It’s the least I can do, especially considering…” She trailed off, instead gesturing to his left arm which was fully encased in a sling.
After a moment of awkward silence, the girl spoke up again. “Um, what class do you have next? I can help you carry your things,” she offered.
“Bio,” he answered, “but it’s alright,” the boy quickly added. “It’s not far, I wouldn't want you to go out of your way-”
“No, that’s perfect,” she interrupted. “I’ve got psych first period, so I’m headed to the science wing too,” she explained, lifting the heavy load from his hands, right as the morning bell rang.
“Alright,” Logan said, leaning over his girlfriend’s shoulder to give her an instinctual kiss on the cheek. “I better get going. If I’m late to Mrs. K’s class one more time I think she might beat me to death with one of the CPR dummies.”
Parker immediately bore her eyes into her boyfriend’s soul at his word choice, the poor boy not remembering his audience until the words had already left his mouth. Looking like a deer in headlights, he simply turned around and scurried off.
“Sorry,” Parker apologized once she turned back to Zhou, embarrassed.
“It’s okay,” he said, chuckling.
“Shit, we better get going or we’ll be late too.”

“You guys know Zhou, right?” Parker asked the group in front of her as she led the incapacitated boy to her customary lunch spot under the oak trees in the school courtyard. The two were met with a chorus of “yeah”s and welcomes.
“I hope it’s okay that I sit with you guys today,” he asked timidly.
“Yeah, great to have you, man,” Liam assured him as Lily reached across the table to relieve Parker of the extra lunch tray.
“Didn’t we have trig together last year, mate?” Dennis piped up to ask him.
“Um… I’m not sure. I don’t think I would recognize you in class,” the bashful boy responded, leading to a roaring bout of laughter from the crowd.
“Goddamn! He got your ass, Hauger,” Jack said through a fit of childish giggles.
As the conversation continued, Parker couldn’t help but notice that one of the usual members of their crew was missing. “Hey, babe,” she said as she nudged her boyfriend’s rib to get his attention.
“What?”
“Where’s Paul?” she asked, concerned. “He said he was coming to school when I checked in on him yesterday,” the girl recalled.
“Yo, Bearman,” Logan called quietly to the younger boy sitting across from them.
“What’s up?” Ollie questioned, eyebrows raised.
“Have you seen Paul at all today? Did he change his mind about coming in?”
“No, he’s here,” Ollie informed the couple. “I think he probably just wants some time to himself right now. Usually…” he trailed off.
Parker and Logan nodded in understanding. Usually Paul wasn’t the only Aron present at the lunch table.
“How are you holding up?” Parker inquired, giving the boy’s hand a gentle squeeze. Paul had lost a brother, but Ollie had lost the next best thing. His best friend. “I’m alright, thanks for asking,” he replied a little too quickly, flitting his eyes away from the couple before abruptly turning to rejoin the ongoing conversation to his right.
Logan and Parker shared a sad glance, but decided it was better to leave the boy be. Paul probably wasn’t the only one who needed space.
“So,” Arthur’s voice rang out, gathering everyone’s attention. “We’ve got Wednesday off, what say you all we hang at my place tomorrow night.”
“OMG! Sleepover!” Jack shrieked in a high pitched voice, eliciting a few snorts from the kids surrounding him.
“Shut up, Doofus,” Arthur shouted at him playfully.
“That’s not my name, Lecdumbass,” the other boy snapped back, overdramatically rolling his eyes in jest.
“Anyways…” Arthur hollered over his friends’ audible amusement, attempting to gather their attention again. “Is everybody in? You too, Guanyu,” he clarified, to which the meek boy simply nodded, much to the others’ delight. “Awesome!”
As everyone else agreed to the plan, Jack interrupted once again. “Can’t. My parents have been totally freaking out over all this shit. You know how they are. So, unfortunately, the only party I will be attending is Doohan family game night hosted at 15 Fairview Road. Sorry, gang.”
“Well, hope you have fun playing Scrabble with Mummy tonight,” Liam teased.
“Yeah,” Dennis joined in sarcastically, “maybe if you’re lucky she’ll let you have a scoop of chocolate ice cream too. With sprinkles!”
“Alright, fuck you all, I’m out of here,” Jack countered, beginning to gather his things in perfect unison with the end-of-lunch bell.
“Bye-bye, Doofenshmirtz!” Parker called to the boy’s back.
“See ya when Mama Doohan lets you out of your cage again,” her boyfriend added with a big grin, made even wider when Jack simply flipped them off as he continued walking away.

Dennis had worked his ass off all summer. He wanted that spot on the team and he wanted it bad. So, in the month leading up to tryouts, he had to keep up his training. And if Coach saw how dedicated he was maybe that would benefit him too.
After another grueling workout under the hot September sun, Dennis made his way back to the empty locker room. He could smell, see, feel, and taste the sweat on his body, making him strip off his soaked through shirt before the door had even fully closed behind him. He needed a shower ASAP.
All of a sudden, he felt the air knocked out of his lungs as his back hit the ground, letting out a strident wheeze. He laid there for a moment, groaning in pain and sweating even harder than before. Wait, no. That wasn’t sweat…
The boy wearily lifted his head off the ground, still recovering from the harsh impact of his fall, only to see the entire floor of the room flooded.
“What the fuck?” he sighed out with the little breath he was able to collect.
He slowly lifted himself back to his feet, ignoring his spinning head, until he looked down at where he had been only to be greeted by a river of pink floating in the shallow water. He reached his fingers to softly touch the back of his throbbing head and was immediately met with an intense pain and sticky, red blood covering his hand.
The boy sluggishly stumbled forward toward the sinks in order to better assess the situation and clean his open wound. The only sounds he could make out were his laboured breaths and the splashes of his feet meeting the puddles beneath him. Splish. Splash. Splish. Splash. Splish. He paused for a moment as the world spun around him.
Splash.
But the sound of that extra step behind him didn’t register in time for him to save himself.

You just gave her the strongest case of whiplash due to how fast she turns her head towards you her eyes wide open and mouth agape.
She looks over to her father before quickly looking back at you and back at him, she realizes he seems to stare at you intensely, This causes her face to turn a deep shade of red so much so that she begins to cover her face with her right hand. Her father realizes Anell's reaction towards what you said with confusion causing him to start speaking
"Ane-"
"Yes! Yes we are! I simply misunderstood that's all, that's a mistake on my part how about we all go out you're here until tomorrow correct?" She says practically shaking in anticipation.

She stares at you with a huge smile her eyes glowing her cheeks showing red tints on them as she flaps her hands in excitement grabbing your arm yanking you closer to her before pressing her chest tightly against your upperarm.
"Forget what I said we're dating!" Tina says with a satisfied smile as her parents look at both of you completely confused.
"What about paul?" Her father says taking a step forward almost in disbelief "Him too." Tina says without hesitation even as her father looks at her as if she's got two heads, you look behind him seeing her mother not looking fazed in the slightest besides the side smile she gives you before she walks up to tina's father patting his back in an attempt to calm him.

You feel the back your collar get yanked to the left as he wraps his right arm around you tightly "I was just kidding, we're dating!" He quickly begins to force both of you out of the big circle of people surrounding you both asking about Tina "she's alright with it!" Paul responds to all at once.
"Wa-" before you can get a word in he already has you being dragged down the hallway despite protest from teachers "hopefully you can jump fences we're going on our first date!" You'll end up with some cuts and scrapes along the way but atleast you had a good date and a lot more things that are taller than you if you pile them up.

She goes deathly still and quiet as you say this infront of a class full of other student presidents and teachers before anyone can comment on what you said she is able to quickly move the subject back to what was being discussed without much issue besides a few glances being locked onto you.
She will only show some semblance of emotion after you both are alone which you'll be able to tell by her shaking shoulders and red ears "Was that some joke?" You look at her feeling unease due to her tone "No I actually did think we were dating, I shouldn't have just blurted it out sorry."
You step back as she takes one big step towards you "Don't be its fine even though I would've prefered to have heard that in a more desirable place I'm still happy." Her face is now completely red as a way to hide it from you she puts her face against your shoulder.
"Let's just stay like this for now."

If you said this infront of anybody he'd just side smile and not "correct" you, he'd be super vague to the person interested in knowing more but there is one more thing.
He already knew and simply played the friend role maybe as an act of revenge or simply because he wanted some entertainment but when you finally reveal your thoughts to him he'll feign ignorance "Really? You thought we were something? I'll have to think on that one." He'll look at your face to see your reaction but smirk at you.
"Just a tease no need to for the face, come on we have a busy day ahead of us." Jake just for the day won't be such a pain in the ass and will actually be quite accommodating and sincere with you, you'll also see him smiling more and even initiate physical affection bound to your limits of course.

I’m so sorry for not giving an update sooner but a lot of things have happened in the time I’ve been away..
So I’ve been at rehabilitation for my leg, that after the accident wasn’t willing to work for a full hundred percent so I’ve been working on that..
Butttttt while I was there I found out I was pregnant and I gave birth to a healthy happy little girl who’s made my entire life with her bubbly personality.
I’m fully committed to go back to writing and finishing requests!

Summary: Vampires and wolves are not the only supernatural creatures to walk the earth, and they are certainly not the only ones in Forks, Washington when Charlotte Annabeth Swan, “Anna”, moves in with her uncle after the unfortunate demise of her parents.
Some may misidentify her as a witch, but that’s fine, she would rather them think that anyway. But the Volturi know the truth, and they are closing in on her.
A/N: Surprise! I am alive, between school, work, and a hurricane, this was a challenge to complete. But to make up for it, it is twice as long as usual chapters AND the moment we have all been waiting for is here.

It was impossible to focus on anything in the aftermath of Bella’s wolf bombshell. School went by in a blur, my mind constantly on what was happening in the woods. Even Eric and Mike had noticed, which was how I knew I was off. They barely noticed anything. For a moment, I felt like I was slipping away, just like Bella had.  
I spent every free second of the next few days trying to monitor the vampire situation. The pack had killed one who had gotten too close to Bella. I couldn’t even confront her, because telling her I knew about the vampire meant telling her I knew about the wolves. It wasn’t just the boys in the woods with a vampire now, it was Charlie, Harry, and so many more humans in danger. I found that I could feel where she was in the woods. Vampires were not alive, and if I focused on that feeling of emptiness, I could track her. And she was fast.  
Paul made it known he hated this, but I wanted to help. The only upside was that I could use my emotional connection to Charlie to monitor where the hunting group was in relation to the redhead. The pack were excellent trackers, but apparently, the smell of a vampire was overwhelming to them. I could better keep track of the humans than they could while they were on her tail, so Sam let me keep doing what I could. I was able to warn them when she got too close to them and could track her movements off the reservation as well.  
The nosebleeds, on the other hand, that was a point of contention. So much so that Paul broke his rule about being around me in his wolf form.  
I was sitting against a rock, the cold forest floor beneath me, and my eyes closed when I heard footsteps. Sam had cleared this little clearing safe earlier in the day, it was off the path enough to be hidden, but not dangerous. I wasn’t scared. I knew who it was immediately.  
“Paul,” I whispered, opening my eyes. The wolf was about six feet in front of me, and they were really just as massive as people said. He had told me he was worried about scaring me, but all I could think was how beautiful he was. His fur was a dark silver, and some lighter spots on his face. His eyes were copper, seemingly staring into mine.  
He huffs at me, his agitation apparent in his body language. I dropped the shields around my mind so we could communicate. It takes a minute to push through some of the pack's collective thoughts to get to Paul’s. They know he’s with me, I can hear Sam giving directions and some responses before I get to him.
“Hey,” I think.  
You’re bleeding, he growls out loud at the thought. I wipe away the blood quickly beginning to fall down my lip.  
“Shit, sorry,” I say, standing up, “I honestly don’t really notice it anymore.”
What if she had caught wind of you? You’re forgetting that your blood is different. You’re putting yourself in more danger.  
“I didn’t forget. She’s pretty far away, and she keeps making you guys chase her to the border. If you would just let me get close enough to her to read her mind, I could figure out what she wants,” I say pointedly.
Absolutely not, he huffs.
“Paul,” I say taking a step forward and I can see him step back.  
Stay back, I don’t want to hurt you.  
I sigh, “You won’t, love.”
You don’t know that.
“I do,” I take another step forward, “Trust yourself. Trust me.”  
He turns his head away, thoughts racing too fast for me to decipher. The pack's thoughts are bleeding through, making it difficult to single out his. Before I can get a headache, he turns to face me again, nodding.  
Okay, he thinks.  
He’s taller than me still, but he shrinks a little as I move forward. I slowly hold out a hand, letting him come to me.  
He stares at me unblinking, before leaning into my palm.
“See, not so bad,” I smile, and even in his thoughts, he is grumbling.  
Maybe, but I should get back, and you should go home to rest.  
Sam breaks through the wall I have that pushed the pack away with an Alpha order to the boys. I flinch as it shatters through my mind like broken glass. Pressing my palms into my eyes, I nod.
“Yeah, maybe.”

Bella couldn’t believe how blind she had been. Jacob had told her, point blank, exactly what he was, and she couldn’t see it. It took him climbing through her window to notice exactly what was going on.
Jacob was a werewolf. He was killing the hikers in the woods. He had been manipulated by the others into murder. It wasn’t a gang he was in, it was a pack.
Bella’s thoughts raced as she drove, was Anna a part of this, did she know? She had too, Bella thinks. She had been keeping secrets for far too long.
Parking, Bella rampaged her way to the Black house, hellbent on getting answers with her aggressive knocking and pushing her way past Billy.
But now standing here at the door to his room, he didn’t look like the monster she had made out in her head. He looked peaceful, having long since outgrown the bed he lay in. He didn’t want this. He was just sixteen.
Looking through the window, she saw the four others step through the tree line, and she saw red. This needed to end.
“What did you do!” she yells bursting out of the door, when she didn’t get an answer, she becomes irate, running up to Sam.
“Hey! What did you do!” she yelled again, pushing Sam forcefully. Paul steps forward with a growl, his protective nature surging before Sam puts his hand on his chest.  
“Easy,” Sam warns.  
“He didn’t want this!” Bella continues, getting louder, pushing closer to them.
“What did we do?” Paul spits, “What did he do? Huh? What did he tell you?” Here was Bella, once again villainizing him and his pack, causing problems where there were none to begin with.
“Both of you calm-” Sam urges with an authoritative tone, but it is cut off by Bella.
“Nothing! He tells me nothing because he’s SCARED of you,” she screams, and the boys are all stunned into a second of silence.
Until Paul and Jared start laughing, shocked by how ridiculous that is.
Bella loses it, and she reaches out, slapping Paul across the face. She realizes her mistake the second it happens.
“Fuck, too late now,” Jared says, grabbing Embry and stepping away from Paul.
“Bella! Get back now!” Sam yells.  
Paul is shaking, his rage has overtaken him. It’s not just about her hitting him, he barely felt it really. It’s her entitlement, her obvious selfishness, and her lack of understanding when it came to them or Anna. She just assumes her stupid, bloodsuckers were perfect, that we couldn’t possibly be good as well. It all bubbles up to the surface at once, and all the animosity over the way Bella treats Anna explodes. Months of frustration and anger take over him.
Sam is trying to get him to calm down, but it’s not working.  
“Jared, call Anna,” Sam says calmly, but the glare he receives from Paul proves that that was not the right thing to say.
“No!” Bella yells, eyes wide.
“Jesus Christ,” Jared groans.
He doesn’t have time to reach for his phone, because Paul loses control, and suddenly a giant grey wolf is standing in front of Bella, snarling and snapping.  
Bella finally gets the hint, turning around to run as Jacob appears from his house.  
“Run!” she screams, “Run, Jake, run!”  
He does but in the opposite direction. Bella is terrified, looking back, she falls just in time to see Jacob jump into the air, but it’s not Jacob who lands on the ground. Another huge russet fur wolf stands its ground in front of the grey wolf.  
The sounds of snapping jaws and growls are horrifying, but Bella can’t look away as the mountains of fur tumble through the grass aggressively, snapping a boat in half as they move toward the woods. With a heavy sigh, Sam looks back at Bella, who is just staring in shock.
“Hey, take Bella back to Emily’s place,” he says with a sigh.  
“Guess the wolf’s outta the bag,” Embry chuckles and reaches out a hand to help Bella off the ground.  
As they start to walk towards her truck, Sam turns back to yell towards the boys, “And someone seriously, call Anna.”
“Not it!” Jared yells, making Embry groan.  
Bella is too shocked to say anything as they guide her to the back seat. She doesn’t hear what Embry says on the phone to her cousin, she doesn’t notice Jared grab the keys and start the truck, all she can do is stare past the broken boat and into the forest.  
Jacob really is a werewolf. Anna is a Fae. Are all the monsters real?

“What?!” I yell. Embry had finished giving me the rundown of what happened. I hadn’t even woken up yet when Bella had left, but I was wide awake now.
“Please don’t make me repeat it,” Embry flinches away from the phone, a furrow in his brow.
“Are you with her now?” I ask.
“Yeah, we are on our way to Emily’s, we’re almost there.”  
“Jesus Christ, I would love to go at least one fucking week without something blowing up,” I complain, getting my things together to leave frantically.  
“Yeah, me too.”
“I’ll be there in like 15.”  
“I’ll warn everyone.”  
I scoff and roll my eyes, setting my phone down to throw a hoodie on.  
Embry hangs up the phone and Jared glances at him from the road.  
“Not good?” Jared asks.
Embry gives him an incredulous look, “Hurricane Anna lands in t-minus 15.”  
Jared exhales, “This outta be fun.”
When the trio pulls into Emily’s house, Bella has finally come out of her shock, leaning out the window, she speaks up.
“Hey! I think we should go back and see if Jacob’s okay.”  
Jared laughs, “I hope Paul sinks some teeth in ‘em, serves him right.” He walks to the porch, Embry right behind him.  
“No way, Jacob’s a natural, did you see him phase on the fly like that? I got five that says Paul doesn’t touch him,” Embry explains animatedly, they pause when they see Bella hasn’t moved.
“Come on in Bella, we don’t bite,” Embry jokes.  
“Speak for yourself,” Jared retorts with a smirk.  
Embry walks back to Bella as Jared enters, a tentative look in his eyes.
“Oh hey, about Emily, Sam’s fiancé, don’t stare. It bugs Sam,” he warns sadly.
“Why would I stare?” Bella questions, but he doesn’t answer, just walks in ahead of her.  
Entering the house, Bella immediately felt out of place, like an outsider. She glances around the room from the doorway. The open concept made it feel bigger than it was, even with the massive boys at the wooden table. There were signs of life in every part of the room. Shoes were kicked off by the door, the smell of baked goods from the kitchen, and jackets hung on the back of chairs. One of which Bella recognized as Anna’s. It wasn’t until a sweet voice broke her from her thoughts that she looked at the woman walking out of the kitchen.
“Are you guys hungry? Like I have to ask,” she laughed. Bella suddenly realized why Embry had given her a warning. The woman must be Emily, and she was gorgeous despite the scar traveling down the side of her face. Bella forced her eyes away. Did Sam do that? Would Paul do that to Anna?
“Who’s this?” she asked curiously.
“Bella Swan, who else?” Jared shrugs, falling back into his chair.
Emily’s eyes widened, “Ah, so you’re the vampire girl.”  Her small smile let her know she was joking.
“So, you’re the wolf girl,” Bella responds, her humor lost in her awkwardness.
“Guess so, well I’m engaged to one at least,” she shrugs and sets down the plate in her hand as the two boys lunge for the food, “Save some for your brothers,” Emily scolds, “and ladies first. Muffin?”  
“Sure,” Bella says as Emily gestures to the plate. Emily watches her cautiously before going back to cleaning up.
“Leave it to Jacob to find a way around Sam’s gag order,” she says.  
“Um, he didn’t say anything to me,” Bella interjects, feeling the need to defend him.  
“Yeah, that’s a wolf thing, alpha’s orders get obeyed whether we want them to or not,” Embry tells her, “Oh and check it out, we can hear each other’s thoughts.”
“Would you shut up! These are trade secrets! This chick runs with vampires,” Jared yells in exasperation. Bella finally breaks a smile.  
“You can’t really run with vampires, 'cause they’re fast,” she says, a bit smugly, but Jared doesn’t miss a beat.
“Yeah, well we’re faster. Freaked out yet?” he taunts good-naturedly.  
She shrugs her shoulders, “You’re not the first monsters I’ve met.”
Sam walks through the door, breaking some of the tension.  
“Jake’s right, you’re good with weird. I would refrain from using the word “monsters” around your cousin though,” he warns. He walks up to Emily, peppering kisses on her face as she giggles. Bella has to look away, it still hurts to see other people in love.  
When Paul and Jacob walk through the door, they seem fine. Smiling even. Paul comes to sit down at the table in front of her, as Jacob stands in the doorway.
With a smirk, Paul turns to apologize, “Sorry,” he says. He knows I’m on my way and will finally have to confront my cousin, and not even the threat of my wrath deters him from this moment.  
Jacob silently motions to Bella to follow him, but the slamming of a door directs everyone’s attention outside.  
“Here we go,” Embry huffs. Emily straightens as the weather seems to change, the sun has faded away and the usual cold air warms by at least ten degrees.
When Embry called me a hurricane, Bella thought he was joking, but looking at me now, Bella admits it’s a pretty good description. She can see me through the doorway as I walk around my car.
The wind seems to be roaring just around me, my now chaotic curly hair had to be gathered haphazardly out of my face. My own storm cloud follows me, about twenty feet in the air, and lightning is cracking within it. It’s about the size of my car and looks like rain could pour at any second. It swirls in a spiral, just like a hurricane, and I’m standing in the eye of the storm. It’s the first time Bella has really seen my magic and she’s suddenly faced with the reality that I am not human. She’s staring at me wide-eyed and mouth agape.  
“You should have seen her when she found out a vampire almost killed you,” Jacob whispers to Bella, “We thought we were going to have to board up the house.”
Bella stares at me, realization hitting her about what exactly I am. Bella had found herself surrounded by magical creatures, and her mortality weighed on her heavier than ever.
Bella sees what I can’t, my eyes have darkened to a navy, almost black. The ends of my curls spark with the lightning. Bella gets why the Cullens thought I was a vampire at first, in this state, I look like one.
With my hands on my hips, I can tell by everyone avoiding my gaze that I look as pissed off as I feel. Staring at Bella through the door, I notice Paul is still inside.
“Bella! Paul! Get out here!” I yell, thunder booming behind me.
Bella sees Paul grimace as he walks out, and she grows more worried about confronting Anna about her serial killer boyfriend.  For a second, she considers the fact that Anna may have committed murder too.
“You look like you’re heading to the gallows man, it’ll be fine,” Embry says to Paul, trying to be supportive. Bella slowly makes her way to the porch, Jacob and Sam behind her.  
“Hi Anna,” Sam says with a smile, “How are you doing?” It’s an attempt to cool the situation, but it hits my cold exterior and fails.  
With eyes like ice, they flicker between Paul and Bella.  
“Oh, I am fucking fantastic Sam, especially since I got a call that once again, my cousin has forced herself into things that aren’t her business- ” Bella moves to interject, but I put a hand up, stopping her as lightening cracks behind me in the growing storm cloud and a gust of wind hits them.
“No, you will shut up and listen, what the hell were you thinking? And you, don’t think you’re getting away with this,” I yell pointing at Paul, who has the decency to look sheepish.  
“I am so beyond pissed off. Can I please just have one moment where I don’t have to worry about you getting yourself killed Bella!? Because I have tried so God damn hard to keep you alive, despite your best attempts to do the exact opposite. I have spent months perfecting and learning how to protect you and Charlie. Why do you think you’ve never seen a vampire around our house, Bella? Because I exhausted myself warding it, layers and layers of wards so anyone we didn’t know wouldn’t be able to sense the house. I have charmed so many things with protection that it’s insane. Jewelry, clothes, Charlie’s badge. The list is so long,’ I take a sharp intake of breath before continuing.
“I spend every day tracking any vampire activity, and all you have done is make it so much harder! I have one thing for myself, and that’s these boys. This pack that I also spend every day doing whatever I can to make sure they are safe because they have been forced into a role they don’t want. I have enough to worry about, I don’t need to add “my boyfriend getting so angry he blows the pack secret” to that list?” I know I must look crazy, arms flailing, and cheeks flushed, but I can’t stop, that is until Bella interrupts my rant.
“I kind of knew already, this just confirmed it,” Bella says quietly, and everyone around her audibly groans. Embry’s head falls into his hand as he leans against the railing of the porch, Jared shakes his head. Sam looks up to the ceiling in exasperation, Emily flinches, and Paul glares. Even Jacob lets his head hang, waiting for my inevitable reaction.
“IF YOU KNEW WHAT MADE YOU THINK ANTAGONIZING PAUL WAS A GOOD IDEA!” I scream.
Bella didn’t have a great response to that, she just looks down at the ground.
Sam stepped in between us before I can start again, “Alright I think maybe it’s time for Bella to talk to Jacob, give everyone a breather.”  
Jacob pulls Bella quickly out of the house towards the beach. Paul was the only one brave enough to step into my vicinity, and the wind died down once he placed his arms around me. I keep my arms crossed in the hug, pouting until I feel myself relax. I pull back, placing my hands on either side of his face.  
“I hope Jacob got some good hits in for me, and you better have given him as good as you got” I muttered, and he laughed despite himself.  
“Don’t worry my little brawler, we both have been effectively whipped into shape,” he says kissing my head, then looks into my eyes, “I’m sorry.”
I nod once, and the cloud finally dissipates above us. I sigh deeply before curling into him and his warmth.
“It’s cold.”  
“Well considering you brought your own weather front, I’m not surprised. Let’s go inside.”
Everyone is silent, looking at me expectantly, waiting for my reaction.  
“I’m fine guys, really. Paul will live to see another day.”
“It’s not him I’m worried about,” Emily says, “I’m worried about you, and what you are going to do now that Bella is in the loop.”
“Yeah Anna, you haven’t given yourself a break since I’ve known you,” Jared quips.
“Yes, thank you for reminding me,” I say as Paul sits down, pulling me onto his lap, “I’ll be fine guys, don’t worry.”
They drop it, but their thoughts are loud and demanding. I can hear their worry and I can’t shut it out, so I just close my eyes and lean against Paul. Tuning into our connection quiets the noise, and I can fade into the thrum of our heartbeats. I know this won’t be the last time they bring this up, but I will avoid it as long as I can.

Bella walked across the beach solemnly. Jacob trailed behind her, unable to face the gravity of the conversation they needed to have. Once they approached the shore, with the calming waves crashing in the background, Jacob fell in step beside her.
“So, you’re a werewolf,” Bella says after the silence had gotten too heavy. Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he nodded.
“Yeah, last time I checked,” he shrugged, “A few lucky members of the tribe have the gene. Then a bloodsucker moves into town, and the fever sets in.” Bella can clearly see he feels bitter about it, and she holds out hope Jacob is still the same person she knew.
“Mono,” she states.
“Yeah, I wish,” he scoffs.
“Well, can’t you find a way to just stop?” she asks indigently, and Jacob rolls his eyes as she continues, “I mean… it’s wrong.”
“It’s not a lifestyle choice Bella!” Jacob raises his voice and furrows his brow, “I was born this way! I can’t help it.”
He pauses, throwing his arms down in frustration, “You’re such a hypocrite! What? I’m not the right kind of monster for you?”
Bella looks up at him with wide eyes, crossing her arms.
“It’s not what you are, it’s what you do. They never hurt anybody! You’ve… killed people Jake,” she cries out like this was obvious. Jacob shakes his head as she looks down and away from him. Jacob takes a step closer to her, bringing her attention back to him.
“Bella! We’re not killing anyone,” he pleads.
Bella is taken aback, “Then, who is?” she says breathlessly. He can’t believe she doesn’t get it, that she doesn’t understand even after remembering the stories he told her.
“What we’re trying to protect you people from, the only thing we do kill,” he pauses, “Vampires.”
Bella starts to panic a bit, “Jake you can’t!”
“Don’t worry we can’t touch your precious little Cullens unless they violate the treaty,” he interrupts her with another eye roll. Bella just shakes her head, he does not understand what she means.
“I – that’s not what I’m saying, you can’t kill vampires, they’ll kill you.”
“Really? We took out that leach with the dreads easy enough,” Jake says smugly, and finally, Bella realizes maybe there’s more to the wolves than she thought.
“Laurent?” she gasps, her chest pounding. Jacob nods.
“And his red-headed girlfriend is next.”
“V-Victoria’s here,” she stutters, losing her footing, and Jacob goes to steady her, eyebrows raising in concern.
“She was, we chased her all the way to the Canadian border last night. She keeps coming back, but we don’t know what she is after.”
“I do,” Bella gapes, “me.”
Jacob stares at her, concern all over his features. He helps Bella stand, but he can hear her heartbeat pounding in her chest. His urge to kill the bloodsucker has increased tenfold at this moment.
“We should go back, tell Sam and Anna.”
“No, wait, Anna…” Bella trails off, gazing back at the way they came.
“Don’t worry, I’m sure she’s calmed down by now. Paul has that effect on her,” he says, and Bella thinks she is joking, but he’s serious. Jacob notices she looks genuinely scared.
“She’s not safe, why is she with him?” she whispers.
Jacob tenses protectively, “She’s safe Bella, we would never let anyone hurt her.”
“But Paul… what if he hurts her?”
Realization hits him, he had come to know Paul as so much more than just his temper, but the rumors were still in Bella’s head. Hell, he had put them there. Honestly, it was rare he blew up anymore. These days Paul only has three emotions, being in love with me, worrying about me, or focusing on the hunt.
“I know you might not have seen him in the best light today, but trust me, he would rather cut off his own arm than hurt her,” he says seriously.
When Bella continues to stand still. Jacob picks her up underneath her knees. Carrying her will be quicker than walking with all her questions, and to his surprise, she leans into him, laying her head on his shoulder.
“How long has she known about you?” she asks, then softly, “What do you know about her?”
“She’s known since she met Paul, and we know about her too. I found out when I shifted for the first time.”
“That’s why he showed up at my birthday…” she whispers.
Jacob hasn’t heard this story but makes a mental note to ask Paul about it later. It’s a short walk back to Emily’s house with his large and quick steps. They spend it in relative silence, just enjoying being together again.
As they approach the house, Jacob sets her down to walk up the porch steps. The doors are still open, and Jacob stops Bella before she walks in. When Bella gives him a questioning glance, he just points inside.
“See for yourself,” he whispers.
Bella looks to where he is pointing and is genuinely shocked at what she sees. Paul and I are sitting in the old La-Z-Boy in the corner of Emily’s living room, while the rest of the pack and Emily are lounging around. It’s a rare moment, everyone relaxing for even a moment, but Emily strong-armed Sam into an uninterrupted hour of calm.  
Paul’s arms are secured around my waist as I am draped over his lap, laying my head on his shoulder just like she was a moment ago with Jacob. My head is suddenly thrown back in a laugh as he peppers quick kisses all over my cheek and neck through his own smiles. Embry throws a pillow at us from the couch, making a fake sound of annoyance, but it just makes us laugh more.
Bella can’t see what’s playing on the TV, but it doesn’t look like anyone is paying much attention to it anyway. Everyone is mostly just enjoying each other’s company. She sees the way Paul looks at me, and suddenly, she gets it. This isn’t the guy who was shaking with rage just hours ago, now he’s gazing up at me with a sickeningly sweet adoration that makes Bella’s heart crack. I look the most relaxed Bella has seen in a month; she doesn’t think I’ve had my guard down at all. That has to be tiring.
They look like a family, Bella thinks. There’s a distinctive warmth surrounding them that Bella knows is lacking in her own house, the only time she sees it is when she sees Charlie and me cooking together, or sitting on the couch with the game on, and the warmth leaves when she enters the room.
She’s about to do the same thing here, break up this happy moment, and for the first time since Edward left, Bella actually feels guilty about it.

Sera hadn’t attended the Emperor's speech, as she hadn’t cared what he had to say. He’d made such speeches on dozens of planets in the five years since he’d ascended to the throne, and Beakkal was no exception. She wondered if anyone had actually thrown rotten vegetables at him, the way they’d bragged about having planned to do. Clearly no one who’d boasted their intent to kill him had done so, at least. But then, no one but Sera had actually prepared for the task.
She’d trained for months, and she’d fully accepted the likelihood of her own demise, whether she was successful or not. That was fine, she figured; one less mouth taking food from her younger siblings. Her mother always said she ate too much of the bread they made to sell, and that it showed.
She wasn’t skilled enough—or strong enough—to best a warrior like Paul Atreides in combat, so she was relying on the element of surprise. She’d have one chance at cutting his throat with her knife. One chance to right the wrongs he’d done, avenge the lives he’d taken in his foolish war of revenge.
The late afternoon sun was hot on Sera’s back as she moved silently between the buildings, noting the shift in material as she moved between the buildings the Emperor walked past; rotting wood that changed to well-kept stone in the rich part of town. This was good— there were less people here. Not that anyone would get in her way, of course. No one on Beakkal would take issue with the Emperor being killed.
Except, she thought with a smirk, the glint of her dark green eyes locked on her oblivious target, for those idiot officials who didn’t think to instill extra guards to protect the Emperor, of all people.
Well. Their foolishness was Sera’s gain. No, it was the Known Universe’s gain. Every single one of the Atreides’ subjects would benefit from his death, they just didn’t know it yet. Centuries from now, they’d thank her. She didn’t need to be a martyr, didn’t need to be a hero, but it sure as hell wouldn’t hurt if people appreciated her taking one for the team. There was no way she’d make it out of this situation alive, but she’d do her damnedest to take him down with her.
She inched closer to him. Damn. He was so much taller than she’d expected; men on Beakkal didn’t tower over her half as much, but this snooty rich boy born of the Bene Gesserit breeding program must’ve had at least a foot on her, the bastard. She’d have to use the extra weight she had on him to her advantage. That was fine; she could do that.
She was close enough now. Just a few more steps, and then…
Sera launched herself at him, tackling him to the ground and straddling his waist. Her knife wasn’t the best quality, but she put it to his throat anyway.
Except—
The air around his form vibrated and changed color, much to her astonishment, and she realized there was a crucial fact she hadn’t thought to account for:
The bastard could afford a shield.
Frozen in shock, Sera looked into his eyes. A strange, incomprehensible feeling washed over her.
You, her mind told her in an unfamiliar, echoing voice. I am meant to know you as I know no other. I was crafted for you and you alone.
To make matters even worse—if that were possible—he was staring into her eyes intently, the blue glow of his gaze eerie, and then he reached up and yanked the cloth that covered her face down so that it pooled at her neck. An unmistakable glint of both recognition and awe filtered into his shocked expression.
“Sera,” he breathed.
Her eyes widened, and before she could blink, she was pulled off of him with a jerk.
Two of his guards held her by her arms so her feet were barely touching the ground. “How do you know my name?” she demanded, the abrupt hiss of her voice hiding the sharpness of her fear.
She’d assumed that in the event of her failure, she’d have been dead by this point. Instead of ordering his men to execute her, however, the Emperor stood to his full height, towering over her even on her toes, and addressed his guards with the commanding tone of a man who was used to being obeyed.
“Don’t harm her.”
His guards froze, and Sera stared at him in shock.
“In fact,” he went on, “release her.”
The guards raised their eyebrows at him but obeyed the command instantly.
“Leave us,” the Emperor said shortly, not taking his eyes off her.
“Majesty—“ one of the guards spoke up hesitantly.
The Emperor fixed the man with a look, and both guards immediately walked away.
Sera had heard about the glowing blue eyes of the Emperor, but she hadn’t been entirely sure the rumors were true. They very much were, though— the Atreides had a spice addiction, and the effects on his eyes were most certainly unnerving.
“You tried to kill me,” he observed.
Sera said nothing. 
“Why?” he demanded.
She still didn’t respond, and he tilted his head slightly, his unnervingly blue gaze flitting over her form as if he were trying to see everything that she was.
He wouldn’t tell her how he knew her name, so why should she tell him why she’d tried to rid his Empire of him?
“Very well,” the Emperor said with a sigh, “I’ll take you home. Your parents should hear of this.”
Sera blanched. “Kill me instead.”
He raised an eyebrow. “You’d rather die than be taken to your parents?”
Again, she said nothing. She was being melodramatic, true, but she wasn’t about to tell him that.
“Then that will be your punishment,” he decided.
Sera gaped at him and wondered why in the hell he was being so lenient, so merciful. Before she could even think to ask how he knew where she lived, she was being led home.

“Seraphine,” her mother snapped the second the door was opened, the syllables of her name drawn-out and enunciated; See-ruh-feen. “Where have you been, you ungrateful girl—“ she cut herself off upon seeing who her daughter was with and quickly swept into a deep curtsy. “Your Majesty!”
“My lady,” the Emperor said politely, inclining his head in acknowledgement, though he must’ve known full well that Sera’s mother held no title. “I wish I came bearing happier news,” he continued, “but I’m afraid that your daughter has committed a most egregious crime.”
Hands on her hips—wide, much like Sera’s own, though her mother would never admit it in a thousand years—, she asked, “What’s she gone and done now?”
“She attempted regicide,” the Emperor said apologetically.
Sera glared viciously at the back of his head and wished very much that the dirt floor would swallow him whole.
Putting a hand to her chest as if she hadn’t known full well her daughter had been planning the assassination for months, her mother exclaimed, “I am so sorry, Majesty. She is a vile and willful girl; I pray you will not judge our family as a whole on her misdeeds.” Before the Emperor could speak, she added, “You may do as you will with her. I’m far too ashamed to keep her here.”
The Emperor froze, and Sera could hear the shock in his voice when he spoke, though she stood behind him and couldn’t see his expression. “You’d give your own child up so easily?”
Her mother crossed her arms and glared fiercely at Sera. “She has dishonored our family. I have no use for her.”
“No use for her,” he mused softly. “Very well then.” Turning abruptly on his heel, he strode back out the door, stopping once he’d stepped over the threshold and realized that Sera still hadn’t moved from where she stood. “Let’s go, Sera.”
She followed in a sort of daze, though she snapped out of it once she passed through the door. “I won’t be your servant,” she snapped. “You’ll just have to kill me.”
“You’re not going to be my servant,” the Emperor assured her, “and I’ll not kill you, either. You’ll be safe with me.”
“Safe,” she scoffed. “I’m safer here.”
Pausing his stride and turning on his heels to face her, he said, “How is a life with a woman who is willing to give you away at the first opportunity better than a comfortable life with me?”
Sera’s jaw tensed and she lifted her chin defiantly. “A life with anyone else is better than a life with you.”
And then, for the first time since she’d met him, the Emperor smirked, and he said, “Give it time. You’ll change your tune before long.”
Before she knew what was happening, she was flying offworld, bound for the new seat of the Golden Lion Throne:

Summary: The holiday break is on the horizon, finals are weeks away, and you and your older brother are attending college in Vermont, ready to be done with school and be back home with your parents. Though, while fiddling around with your parents old camcorder, you come across some old tapes that look a little all too familiar to you and your brother.

You laid on your side facing Paul, the movie being long forgotten and now serving its purpose as background noise. You laughed as Paul voiced his complaints on the fact that records and cassettes almost became obsolete for a time and only just in the past few years did people start collecting and buying them again.
"It's a digital age, Paul. Technology boomed and people didn't like physical copies of things anymore. Now it's kind of a thing again." You explained to him.
Paul scoffed, "That's bull man. They're so cheap!" He exclaimed. He couldn't even think about not having his cassettes.
You winced a little with a laugh, "Yeah, about that. A brand new record costs you around twenty-two dollars at the least. The only way you're getting one that's under is at a thrift store."
You laughed more when Paul's jaw dropped, "You're kidding?" He asked you, not believing what you were saying.
You nodded, "Sadly, no… but anyways, my turn."
Paul nodded as well, scooting a little bit closer to you as you thought of what to ask. Even though it was David's coat, he still thought you looked cute in it; your scent and David's scent mixing together.
"Is… smell stronger when you're a vampire?" You kind of knew it was a bit of. Stupid question. You only guessed from lore that vampires had most, if not all of the senses heightened. You were just curious if it was true and if what you were smelling was normal from being an apparent 'dhampir'.
"Hell yeah. You can pretty much smell everything." Paul stared at you for a moment, "Are you…?"
You hummed, answering before he asked, "Kind of. Everything is a little more sensitive, I guess? Though, being around you guys, there's something else. It's intoxicating. I can't place it, but all I know is that I like it a lot."
Paul scooted even more closer to you, both of your knees now just barely brushing up against each other, "It's addicting."
You blinked at his choice of words and you agreed with him, "Yeah, do you… smell it too?"
Paul chuckled, "On you, yeah. You smell like the blood oranges you've been eating, but underneath that, there's something much…"
Paul moved even closer, your bodies and faces only a mere few inches from each other. His eyes roamed your face and you were hit with that smell once more, your brain getting a little foggy. Paul took a deep breath, pupils dilating as he breathed in your scent, "...Sweeter."
The part of you that you still didn't fully understand, growled lowly at Paul, his own scent once again invading your nostrils. Paul smiled and returned the growl, his face getting dangerously close to yours.
He loved it. He wanted more of it. But, he knew that would be selfish. Still smiling, Paul bopped your nose and you blinked at the action, your growl subsiding. Paul just chuckled at your reaction, "Definitely cute."

You watched, clutching onto your bag as the boys came in and out of the room, bringing in pillows and blankets that were no doubt from each of their seperate rooms. You were surprised when they told you that you'd be getting a room of your own. You half expected you and Freddie to be camping out in the main cave.
But David tossed your idea out the window, giving the space that you and Freddie needed. He wanted you to have an area to call your own, and of course didn't voice his wants of having you close. None of them did. They didn't want to overwhelm you as much as you already were.
Freddie came into the room and looked around, only a few candles gave you light; the boys said that they would grab more tomorrow as they had a good handful of them lit constantly. "They're certainly making it cozy here." Freddie comments, noticing the pile of mix-matched blankets and pillows.
You snorted, agreeing with him a little, "Yeah, I guess they are. How's your room?"
Freddie shrugged, "I'm not complaining, though they didn't give me as much as they did you. Dwayne told me they gave me some of their newer stuff that they haven't used as much… still smells like them though."
You furrowed your brow, "You… Do you smell anything else on their stuff?" You questioned.
Freddie pursed his lips and shook his head, "No, just smells like them. Why?"
You swallowed, your eyes catching David's as he passed by the room, "There's something more to their smell for me and I think the book Max gave us will help explain it."
Freddie nodded, "Okay. They also told me something that we can talk about tomorrow." Freddie glanced over at the doorway, knowing that they were waiting for the both of you to finish your conversation.
Freddie sighed and wrapped an arm around your shoulder, bringing you in for a small hug. You wrapped your arms around his middle, and smiled as your brother tightened the hug. "We'll figure this out." He whispered.
You nodded, "I know."
Your brother pulled away and gave your shoulder a squeeze, "Get some sleep, Y/n."
You smiled a little as he let go of you, "You too, Fred." You walked to the door of your room with him, setting down your bag at the foot of your bed as you followed.
The boys were waiting outside your room and waited for your brother to enter his room and close his door to approach you. Their eyes bore into you as they walked past, each of them bidding you a goodnight.
Paul was the first, wiggling his fingers at you with a smile, "See ya tomorrow, babe."
You rolled your eyes at him but still smiled and even chuckled when Marko winked at you next, "We're one tunnel over if you need us."
You shook your head, watching the two terror blondes leave through the tunnel. You really did wonder just how many tunnels were in this damn motel.
"Sleep well, Y/n." Dwayne said, passing you, giving you a smile that gave you butterflies in your stomach. You glared playfully at him and all he did was smile wider.
Last but not least was David. The man who's coat you were still wearing. "Oh, um…" You stuttered a little as David looked down at you with a smirk.
You chuckled, flustered a little and carefully shedded the coat, handing it back to him, "Thank you, again for letting me borrow this."
David took it from your hands and he forced himself to stay calm as his senses started to become clouded with the scent of you as he put it back on, "My pleasure."
You fiddled with your fingers, suddenly very nervous, "You have a good night, or, well, good morning, I guess?"
David chuckled at your words, "Good night is fine."
Just as you were about to turn and scurry off into your room, David did something that completely froze you where you stood. Ever so gently, his gloved hands cupped your cheeks, holding you like you were a precious gem, something to be cherished, and placed a soft kiss on your forehead.
The coldness of his lips and his leather gloves sent shivers down your spine. It was beautiful.
You licked your lips and gulped as David whispered to you, "Sweet dreams, Y/n."
He pulled away and walked down the tunnel to follow the others, leaving you alone, sinking in what just happened.
With heat crawling up your face, you quickly went back into your room and closed the door behind you, leaning against it as the kiss still left you in a state of shock. It was intimate, so sweet… you questioned it so much.
You rubbed your neck, pushing off from the door and taking a seat on the bed that was covered in pillows and blankets. Sleep was suddenly pulling at your eyes and you realized just how much this day had taken out of you.
With a huff, you fully crawled in the bed and the second your head hit the mountain of pillows, your brain was flooded, nerves going haywire and more than anything, you wanted to bury yourself into the materials even further.
Your eyes widened and you deeply inhaled the mixed scents of all four of the boys. It was euphoric, it made you happy. Suddenly determined, your mind worked on its own and started rearranging the pillows and blankets around you so that you were completely surrounded.
You didn't even realize it at first, but your chest was rumbling, you were making small growls when you were happy with the placements of the different blankets and pillows.
Finally happy with your work, you made yourself comfortable and pulled at the blankets so that they covered you. As you fell asleep, you questioned what you just did and unfortunately, it would just have to wait until tomorrow.

David was salivating as he walked down the tunnel towards the cavern where they slept. Your scent was all over his coat. It was delicious, it was sweet and it made him growl as he inhaled it deeply.
Just like what Paul said earlier, you smelt like the fruit that you ate daily but your true scent was something that left him wanting more and more.
"She's all over you." Dwayne comments as David enters the cavern, staring at the bleach blonde's coat.
David smiled, genuinely smiled, "It's different, but not a bad different."
Marko scoffed, already hanging upside down from the ceiling with Paul at his side waiting for the other two, "Hurry up here. Sun's almost up." Marko grumbled, wanting to take a whiff of David's jacket himself.
David shook his head and Dwayne just chuckled, joining the two blondes on the ceiling. David grumbled as the boys stayed close to him. Not that they didn't sometimes get close while they slept, but with your scent mixed with his, everyone was a little more intimate than usual.
"Dibs." Dwayne mumbled out with his eyes closed. He smirked a little when Paul and Marko started to protest.
"Dude, seriously?" Marko pushed the brunette a little, "Of course you would call dibs for marking her next."
David said nothing but closed his eyes, pulling his coat closer to his body, drowning them out as he drifted off to sleep.

"So… I'm mated with the boys and you already found yours. This is nuts." You groaned as you face planted onto the couch in the main cave.
Freddie snorted at you as he continued to flip through the large book that Max gave you both to do your own research. "Apparently. Mates are a big thing for vampires of all kinds. It's like a predestined bond, something that can't be broken no matter how hard someone tries to break or avoid it."
You flipped onto your back and winced when a ray of sunlight hit your face. It was one in the afternoon and the boys were still dead asleep in their cavern, hidden deep and from any sunlight. You had a restful sleep and you felt like you could've stayed in your bed the entire day if your brother didn't get you up.
What surprised you is that the sun made neither you or Freddie tired like you thought. Apparently dhampirs could walk freely in the sunlight and have very little to no effect on you both. Most of the rules that applied to vampires, kind of didn't apply to either of you.
Though there were some other things that were different. As dhampirs you didn't need to feed on human blood as much, nor did you want to at the moment. Powers were much more vast and stronger, ranging from the time traveling and dimension hopping that you both did, to even telekinesis.
Some things stayed the same, holy water did hurt, flying was still a thing and the whole blood orange thing applied to all kinds of vampires. You suddenly questioned if Max had even more books on all vampires. What else was out there in this new world that you fell into.
"How would you even know who you're mated with?" You asked, turning your head towards your brother. How was he already mated? As far as you were concerned, vampires shouldn't exist at all in your dimension.
Freddie shrugged, frowning a little, "Don't know. Vampires mark their mates with scent marking. It helps other creatures know that they're taken or belong to someone else. Your scent is still dominant, but it's a warning sign to others to back off."
You frowned. Jason came to your mind and you knew how much your brother liked him; he was crushing hard. You couldn't imagine what he was thinking.
Freddie was upset for the most part. This whole 'already mated' thing was killing him on the inside. He liked Jason, a lot. He was happy that you and Jason came up with a plan for the two of them to get together. It was his chance to finally step out, to take the leap in asking out the guy he was head-over-heels for over a year. And this 'mate' had to screw that up.
Freddie slammed the book shut in annoyance and looked over to you as you stared up at the ceiling.
"Boardwalk?" Freddie questioned. The cave was cool, but Freddie realized last night that the two of you ended up here with only the clothes on your back and the small amount of things in your bags. You would need to do some shopping and thank goodness the both of you had a habit of keeping a good amount of cash on you.
You sighed, "Boardwalk."

"Okay so, phones changed the dates and our cash is now dated to fit the time as well." You whispered to your brother as the two of you looked through the racks of one of the many thrift stores on the Boardwalk.
You pulled out a band t-shirt that caught your eyes, "Who knew time traveling changed what you carried? Seems like a little bit more than just our newfound abilities at work."
Freddie agreed with you, rounding the corner to the other side of the racks, "Probably. The book only said that we can go into the past or future, nothing about changing objects to fit the time period."
You huffed, tossing the t-shirt in the shopping basket, intending to buy it, "So what, something or someone is helping us out fit in here? Who would even know that we're here?"
You didn't have a clue but your words struck a cord with Freddie, "What about mom and dad?"
You blinked, "Why would mom and dad know?"
Freddie grabbed a jacket off the rack and placed it in his own basket, "Think about it. Our parents are…" He whispered, "Dhampirs. So are we. They'd had to have known that would've figured it out somehow and maybe they even knew about this. They're from here and chances are-"
"So are we." You finished. The possibility of even being from Santa Carla and not Santa Cruz fucked with your mind a little.
You shook your head, "So, if mom and dad knew, and there's, lets say, the possibility of other supernatural creatures, they found someone to help us. But then that raises another question; how would they know that we went back right here and right now?"
Freddie stayed silent and bit his lip, "I don't know. More questions for Max."
You groaned.
Freddie rolled his eyes, "He's the only one, besides the boys that are giving us straight answers. And he has a vast amount of knowledge."
"Knowledge that he's not telling the boys."
"What?" Freddie questioned, confused.
You nodded, "You heard me. They didn't even know that blood oranges were a way to stay alive and avoid killing and drinking blood. They have a basic knowledge of dhampires and from what I can tell, maybe they don't even know what other creatures lurk in the dark."
Freddie stayed silent and thought it over. With sigh, he ran his fingers through his hair, "You're right. I know you're right and it sucks that he's the only one that knows about anything. It's control. He wants everyone to bow to his will and for some reason helping us is gonna benefit him."
"That's what I'm afraid of. He does love the idea of a big happy family." You hinted and Freddie could feel his heart sink to his feet.
"And what's more perfect than two lost, powerful dhampires that don't know their way and rely on him, to be added to the family?"
You nodded, looking away for a brief moment to make sure nobody was listening in on the two of you, "Exactly."
"That's why…" A hand placed itself on Freddie's shoulder. Freddie jumped and your head whipped back to your brother.
Yours and Freddie's jaws dropped. Freddie knew that dark, brunette curly hair anywhere and the star earring that dangled from the person's left ear.
Jason smiled at the two of you softly, still dressed in the same outfit you last saw him in, and a couple of bags of already paid clothing in his other hand, "You need to beat him at his own game."
"Jason?!"

"Hi, yes, I can hear you - sorry about that, I was just making note of your reservation," you spoke smoothly into the phone, trying not to ogle your boyfriend wrapped in only a clean blue towel. "So, that's a party of four for Monsieur Claude Badeaux - all right, that's so lovely. I'm obligated to remind everyone that tonight's opening is a fine dining experience and the proper, corresponding dress code is being asked for. Are there any allergies I should make note of for your party?"
"Jean Paul has a tree nut allergy," you were told.
"All right, that's noted and highlighted: Jean Paul has a tree nut allergy. If there's anything else I could help you with?"
"Non," he chuckled. "I was surprised to see your invitation to this evening, though, mon cher. It's been so long, yes?"
"Well, it was my pleasure to extend the offer, we're ecstatic by your reservation," you chuckled. "We'll see you tonight, Monsieur, and should you need anything before then, you may call this number again."
You said your parting words in French, smiling at Carmy when you hung up and dropped your work phone. "Did I hear that correct?" Your lover asked with a broad grin, "Was that...?"
"Senior marketing advisor at The Washington Post?" You filled in for him. "Uh, yeah, I think it was, but you know me - I could be wrong."
"You invited someone from The Washington Post to the opening tonight?"
"Is that okay?" You asked, standing from the bed after making note in your datebook. "You look kinda - I don't know, shocked?"
"I-I am," he blinked at you, watching you gather his pristine clothing to hang on the closet door. "But in a good way - I can't believe you did this," he chuckled, wiping his mouth. "I mean - holy shit, Peaches."
You offered a toothy grin, "Figured I could pull a few of my own strings to help get the word out about your love-child."
This made Carmy snicker, "Hey, now. Tonight's important, don't make fun."
"I know," you nodded, leading him back into the bathroom to view your hair products. "Which is why I invited some important people and some not-so important people. I know this is serious, Carmy," you smiled at him, hoping to convey your support, "and I wanted to help in whatever way I could."
"You being there tonight is more than I could ask for," he chuckled, helping you onto the small bathroom counter. You squirted a bit of hair product in your hand, watching him flinch back a little, "Uh, I just don't want my hair greasy, Peach, you know? Not a good look and I'll sweat it out in the kitchen."
"I feel like I should be offended by you having no trust in me," you teased, insisting, "I know whatcha need, baby, lemme help."
Carmy smiled softly and held still, letting you run your hands through his curls to push everything back and away from his forehead in a stylish but manageable "do". There was a silent, serene moment as you and Carmy just existed together in a mundane space, his big, sad eyes watching your face as you worked. He wondered, "Think tonight's gonna be okay?"
"I think tonight's gonna be more than okay," you assured softly. "I think tonight's gonna go better than you're anticipating."
He sighed and planted his hands on either side of you, suddenly dropping his gaze. "I, uh... Sugar invited Mom t'tonight..."
"Yeah, I know."
"You know?"
"Sugar and I are still friends outside of us dating, Carmy," you smiled patiently, slowing your hands so you more toyed with his curls; pushing some strands behind his ears. "She needs someone as much as you do and I don't mind."
"But isn't that what Pete's for?"
"Yes, but you know, Pete's Pete."
Carmy snorted, "Yeah, yeah, good point."
"I don't know if she'll show up tonight, Bear, but whether she does or doesn't, it won't matter - you're not doing this for her. This is for you, Carmy, tonight's about The Bear opening - it's about you and this incredible, amazing thing you've done. Okay?" You caressed both his cheeks in your hands so he could only look at you directly. "If she shows, that's great," you whispered with a soft smile as your thumbs swept the apples of his cheeks, "and if she doesn't, it won't make tonight any less special. That, I can promise."
Carmy's forehead met yours, both pausing to breathe together; peace always a fleeting feeling as of late and being something you both capitalized on. You brought him in closer for an embrace, his face burying in your neck as your arms snaked around his to keep him as close as possible. His arms were tight around your waist, legs spread to accommodate him; both needing the feel of being close before that night's inevitable stressful event.

"Wow, well, don't you look all pretty! Wow, Peach," Pete greeted you when you scurried to the table with your friend in tow. "Oh, hi there!"
"Pete, this is my best friend, Danielle, and Dani, this is Pete, Sugar's husband."
"Hi, it's really nice to meet you," your friend greeted, the two instantly chattering as they both just blew past their introductions to instantly compliment one another's clothes. You smirked, knowing they'd get along famously, and looked around the brand new, packed restaurant.
"Hey, there she is, my pretty girl," Richie greeted smoothly, approaching your standing form to slide his hand around your shoulders.
"Hi, Cousin," you beamed, offering him a hug in greeting. "The place looks fantastic - it's so - I mean - just wow, Richie," you complimented. "You guys did such an amazing job. I need to tell Fak, too, this is - you guys should be so proud, it looks incredible. Hardly can believe what it was before this."
"It really is something, huh?" He grinned. "Hey, Pete," he nodded.
"Hey, Richie."
"And you must be the famous, the fabulous Miss Danielle?"
"That's me," your friend grinned. "You're Richie, right? Carmy's cousin who's not really a cousin but is as good as blood?"
"Yes, ma'am, the very same," he nodded with pride. "We've some drinks coming your way in just a moment, but I need to borrow Peach for just one second."
"Why do they call her Peach?" Dani asked, but Richie was leading you away as Pete was heard answering,
"Oh, because she mastered this peach cobbler with Carmy's mom, Donna, and she started the nickname..."
"What's wrong?" You asked softly with a smile as to not give the illusion to others that you were worried. "What can I do to help?"
"No, no, nothing too bad, you were just requested by the Frenchie-French guy."
"Oh, right, that's right, yeah, I can help with that," you sighed gently, smiling as you approached the table. Greeting the two men and women was easy, Richie impressed by your connections in the professional world. Tonight, The Washington Post didn't just dine with them - no, it was also the director of social media for three luxury, designer brands: Jean-Paul.
Yes, the man was so elusive that he just went by Jean-Paul. Fuck a last name!
Either way, it impressed Richie to hear the introductions. The two women were executives in their own companies, names Richie didn't catch because he was busy taking note of the way Mr. Frenchie-French was basically eye fucking you in front of them all.
"Well," Richie smiled stiffly, "tonight's incredibly special for us. In fact, uh, Y/N's boyfriend is the owner and head chef."
"Really?" Frenchie-French perked his brows, shifting his gaze over to you. "You always had a soft spots for chefs, non? For those who were versed in the culinary arts?"
"Well, mostly I appreciated a man in the kitchen simply because I burn water and would probably unintentionally starve myself," you teased easily, deflecting the man's subtle dig. "I'm actually here with family tonight, so, please, ladies and gentlemen, enjoy tonight - I know I'm biased when I say the food is exceptional, but I look forward to your own opinions."
"We will talk later, mon cher, I am sure there will be plenty to discuss," the Frenchman promised, kissing the back of your hand as you let Richie lead you away by your free hand.
You released a long sigh, muttering, "Bring them a bottle of real champagne, please, Richie, I had a few bottles imported just for them. Listen closely," you lowered your voice as you both paused on the side of the dining room, "bring them a bowl of thin sliced strawberries sprinkled in sugar and pop the cork at their table - it's impressive for whatever reason."
Richie pecked your temple and gave you a tight squeeze, "I got it all covered, girly. You all right? Look like you're gonna be sick?"
"Just men being men grosses me out, I guess," you sighed with a small shrug. "He's always had a thing for me, I figured I'd use that to get him here tonight - Carmy's work speaks for itself, but maybe he'd be inclined to publish an article or two for us if I play nice."
Richie paused you a few feet from your table, complimenting, "I hope Carmy knows he doesn't deserve you, Peach."
"You said years ago neither of us did," you smirked gently. "Said I wasn't relationship material, right? Remember?"
"I was wrong," he nodded. "I even said y'all would never be serious, but..." He scoffed to himself, "I've never seen that boy so crazy about anyone in his life. You've really changed him, Peach. I don't really know how to thank you."
"You can start by buttering up those flirty Frenchmen," you teased, giving his cheek a peck.
"On it," he winked, parting from your side.

Inside the kitchen some twenty minutes later, Richie approached Carmy, directing his attention, "Cousin?"
"Yo."
"Peach is on 17 with Pete."
"Okay."
"Go say hi."
"Yeah, eventually," Carmy nodded absently, never halting his work.
"Eventually?" Richie repeated with distain, something in his stomach twisting.
"Where the fuck is Josh!?" Carmy called into the kitchen, another chef echoing his concerns.
"Yo!" Richie barked as calmly as he could, "Just go say hi to your girl, Cousin."
"Yo, I'll go when I have a minute," Carmy deflected strongly. "I'm in the fuckin' shit, leave me the fuck alone."
"What? I'm saying - "
"I'll get there when I can get there!"
"I'm saying!"
"What?" Carmy barked.
"She's got important fucking people in that dining room, man," Richie scoffed, hands held up in defense. "Just for your ungrateful ass! Maybe the least you can do is go say fuckin' hi - even if you're fuckin' busy. She knows that, it'd be a nice gesture - or whatever fuckin' shit - I don't know! She's your girl!"
"Yeah! Exactly!" Carmy barked. "She's my fuckin' girl, she knows the fuckin' drill, I'll go say fuckin' hi when I get the fuckin' chance, Richie! Fuck's sake! Always tryna meddle and shit!"
"Jesus, fuck," Richie sighed, turning out of the kitchen with his hands waving Carmy off in defeat.
You were none the wiser, entertained by Pete and Dani's gabbing as Sugar was in-and-out, dealing with all the little things going wrong. These little things came to her in the form of notes left at the table subtly for her to go solve, you wanting to help but being shot down every time. Eventually, Carmy was approaching your table with a tray of food, shocking you slightly.
"Hey, Peach," He greeted softly, lowering the tray to balance on the table and lean over to kiss your cheek. "You look gorgeous, baby, wow," he complimented in a whisper, offering another quick kiss.
"Thank you, Chef," you smiled brightly, touching his forearm in a sign of affection. "What's all this you've got for us?"
He hummed and explained what he set on the table in front of you guys; eyes alight and cheeks flushed from the heat of the kitchen. He poured whatever sauce came with the main dish, smiling at Dani, nodding to Pete, then looking to you.
"I'll check on you later, all right, baby?" He mumbled, watching you nod. "I gotta get back," he whispered, "but thank you for being here, my pretty girl."
"No where else I'd rather be, Cream," you rushed, letting his lips find yours briefly.
"Stick around after, would you? When we close, just... Don't leave yet."
"Yes, Chef," you whispered against his lips with a grin. He gave one single more kiss before pulling away to stand upright.
"Enjoy," he bid the table before walking away.
"So, like," Dani trailed after making sure Carmy was out of earshot, "when's the wedding? 'Cause that might've been the cutest thing I've seen. I mean, opening night, he's cooking, but paused to come serve us? Serve you? And he's so soft with you, kissin' you, bein' all cute," she pouted dramatically. "I want a reason to wear a maid of honor dress, please."
"Hey, hey, chill on us. There's no wedding," you sighed with a small laugh, trying to play off how the subject made your stomach twist. "We haven't really talked about it, you know? No biggie."
"What?" She sputtered. "Wait, hang on. Y'all have been together - like - a stupid, ridiculous amount of time. The fuck you mean you haven't talked about it? What are y'all doing, just ignoring the elephant in the room?"
You shrugged lightly, "I don't know, we know if we ever got married, it'd be to each other, but that's really it. We know we want to be together, we know we want to marry each other, but there's been no serious conversation about it."
"Uh, does that sound right to you?" Dani asked Pete.
He shook his head as you all took dainty bites of food to savor the flavors (and save Sugar some). "When I knew with Natalie, I didn't hesitate."
"Well, Carmy isn't like you, Pete," you defended. "He's got a lot on his plate, too, you know?"
"You've said that since Mikey," Dani frowned, her voice quiet.
"With good reason, don't you think? Carmy's just - he's just going through a lot right now and it's a challenge, you know?"
"No, it's more like Carmy's got the emotional intelligence of a fucking teaspoon!"
"Hey," you snapped, "that's not his fault, he doesn't know much better, so watch your mouth."
"He does with you, like... He knows better when he's with you, when it comes to you, Peach," Pete offered softly. "Look, maybe Danielle has a point - it is a little weird. I mean, you guys have been together, what? Six, almost seven years? Creeping up on a decade of just dating - that's a long time. And didn't you guys do that weird little half-dating thing for two years before making it official? Don't you think that's enough time to know if you want to marry someone, and then, you know? Actually marry them? Or at least ask them?"
"Sure, maybe to other people, but Carmy and I have never been conventional, so, I don't see why we need to start now."
Danielle scoffed, "Look, God love Carmy and everything, but you're just wasting time now. He needs to either commit or let you find someone who can actually love you like you deserve."
"Oh, and Carmy doesn't?"
"Wasn't all that long ago that you two took a break 'cause he called you clingy - and some other unsavory terms," Danielle shrugged. "Doesn't really sound like someone who loves you unconditionally - the way you should be loved."
You sighed and sat back in your chair, "I appreciate the insight, but Carm and I are fine. Okay? We've got years under our belts, we don't want to fuck up what obviously works for us so chill out on the questions, okay? I don't have answers to them."
Danielle and Pete shared a look before the man got up to excuse himself to the restroom. You and Dani finished your meals before sipping your wine, waiting for Pete, but Dani sighed, "This lady's been staring in here for, like, ten minutes already. It's freezing, doesn't she want to come in?"
"Hmm? What're you - ?"
"This lady on the street," your friend pointed over her shoulder towards the window her back was now turned to.
When you peaked out, you gasped lightly when you saw Donna Berzatto smoking a cigarette. "Oh, shit!" You stood from your seat, rushing, "Okay, so, uh, yeah - just - can you just sit here for a second? I have to go handle that."
"Who is it?" Dani wondered earnestly.
"I got it, Peach," Pete told you, passing by the table swiftly with a hand patting your shoulder to keep you at your table.
"What the hell's happening?" Dani asked. "Who is that?"
"Nothing, no one, it's okay, I think that's someone we know, just, uh, hang on a second? We'll be right back."
"Sure," she nodded in confusion, watching you get from your seat and follow Pete out the door onto the blistering cold sidewalk.
"Hey, Mama Donna," you greeted happily, arms crossing over your chest to protect from the wind. "Have you been inside yet? We saved you a seat and all, but isn't this - just wow?" You grinned, trying to encourage her to say anything about her children's hard work.
"Oh, no, no, not you, too, Peach, why are you here?" She groaned lightly, looking upset and close to tears.
"I'm here 'cause of Carmy? I-It's opening night, yeah?" You offered in confusion. "Why? What's wrong, Mama D?" You worried, glancing at an emotional Pete.
"No, it's just, I can't come in, I can't, just no," she backed away, only now making you notice the way Pete cried. "I'm so sorry, Peach, honey, but I was never here. Okay? I-I'll call them later, I swear, I promise, I'll call them - but I-I-I wasn't here. Okay? You can't tell them I was here. I'm so sorry."
"Donna, don't do this," you begged, head shaking. "Don't, please. Just come in with Pete and I - just sit there for a bit. Just come in and see what your kids have done - Donna, it's so beautiful. You'd be so proud, but you should really see it for yourself - "
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I can't, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, not tonight, no, I'm sorry, I can't," she deflected in a rambling mumble, turning and hustling down the sidewalk with her head shaking like a Etch-A-Sketch.
You rounded on Pete, "What the hell was that? Pete, what just happened?"
"Um, I-I don't - I didn't mean to."
"Pete? What didn't you mean?"
"She didn't tell her mom about the baby," he rushed, tears falling. "Nat didn't tell Donna, Peach, and I think I just did - I think I just fucked up and told her."
"Oh, no... No, Pete, you didn't."
"I didn't mean to! I swear it was an accident!"
"No, I know you didn't mean to, honey," you rushed, opening your arms to bring him in for a tight hug. "Oh, you poor boy, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Pete."
He sighed, "I'm sorry, too, Peach."
"For what?"
"That... We fell in love with Berzattos and this is our new normal now, right?" He sniffled.
You half-smiled, "Yeah, something like that. But it's okay. See, where Donna's afraid to give her love, neither of us are. Sugar and Carm deserve that from us, right? To be authentic and just love them?"
He nodded, "Yeah, you're right."
"And that's all we gotta do... Is love them, Pete."
"God knows where else they'd get it," he huffed, wiping his face. "Hey, um, I'll be in, in a second - I just need a minute alone, I think, in the cold."
"Take all the time you need," you agreed.
"We're not - we're not telling them about this, right?"
You sighed, "No, I don't think so - at least right now. It might hurt them more, you know? To know Donna was here, but never came in. That she ran away... Again. It'll hurt, they deserve to be happy about tonight."
Pete nodded rapidly, looking like he was gonna burst into tears. Instead of going back inside, you just moved to Pete's side and stood there; producing a cigarette, lighting it, offering Pete a drag that he turned down, and the both of you just standing silently; one smoking, one crying, both processing.

"Wow, look at these gorgeous ladies! By far the baddest in the whole place! Yeah, man!" Fak teased as he approached you and Danielle after closing the The Bear officially. "What a privilege to have you both dine with us this evening! Ugh, truly an honor to see you both here," he praised comically, evening giving a small bow that his brother mimicked.
Your eyes rolled, "You're laying it on really thick when I already tipped you." He snickered with Theo. "Hey, seriously, though, tonight was incredible. I mean, it was all so beautiful, you should all be so proud."
"Oh, we are," Neil giggled, his brother hanging off his shoulders.
"Good," you teased. "Uh, is now an okay time to go back and see him? Kinda wanna offer my compliments to the chef directly, you know?"
"No," Fak answered instantly, "uh, well, probably not the best time."
"Yeah, probably not," Theodore echoed.
"I can sense you two ramping up to something," you sighed, "so, I'm gonna ask you skip all that and tell me what's wrong. Why can't I go see my boyfriend? He just had an incredibly successful opening night, I kinda wanna kiss him if you don't mind."
"Um, well, h-he didn't want you to worry, so, he said not t'tell you, but, uh... Yeah, no, Carmy's, like, locked in the walk-in freezer. Han Solo style."
"What?"
"Locked in the walk-in," Fak nodded rapidly, "yeah, no, the handle - like, the whole handle came off. He's locked in, Peach..."
"Oh, my fucking God," you breathed. "Are you saying he - he missed opening night? Neil!"
"Yeah, kinda... Well, sorta - I mean, technically, but - "
"Oh, Jesus," you breezed past them all.

"Mmm-mmm, the fridge guy's name is Terry," Tina corrected Carmy, flinching a little when he slapped the other side of the metal door he was locked behind.
"See, th-tha-that's what I'm talking about!" Carmy raged. "I'm so fucking distracted, and for what? For fucking what? 'Cause of a girl?" He chuckled ruefully to himself.
"Nuh-uh, don't do that, Carmy," Tina scolded. "That's not no girl, that's your girl, that's Peach - you don't lash out at her, baby."
"Yo, maybe - maybe I'm just not built for this. Right? Maybe that's okay! Maybe that just is. She'd be better off, Tina... I'm just - I'm not built for this."
But what Carmy didn't hear was Sydney asking Tina to cover her at the front because she needed to step out the back, get some air; Tina accepting and telling Carm to hang on a moment. Something he missed. While Tina took Syd's spot, Syd rushed outside, and you slipped in the kitchen door; Carmy being surrounded by shitty ripped tape and an entire side full of the flowers he had brought in for tonight - for you. It was a haunting reminder; something suffocating.
When you got to the walk-in, you were prepared to call out for Carmy, but he started speaking from within, halting any word on your tongue.
"I wasn't here b-because I was looking a-a-at fucking engagement rings when the fridge guy fuckin' called," Carmy ranted, your heart stalling in your chest. "Right? Like, what the fuck was I thinking? Like I was gonna get married? Commit to this relationship? Be h-her fucking husband or some shit? Have a fucking wife? I'm a fucking - I'm a fuckin' psycho!" He laughed a little, the tears springing to your eyes as his words disarmed your heart and emotional dam. "That's why! That's why I'm good at what I do! That's how I operate! I am the best because I didn't have any of this fuckin' bullshit, right? I could - I could focus and I could concentrate and I had a routine and I - and I had fuckin' cell reception, and Peach and I just had our own routine! We didn't need this extra bullshit, and now..."
You just listened, leaning on the freezer's door, tears silently leaking down your cheeks as you had the horrendous realization that you were what now slowed Carmy down. You were what currently stood in his way, when this whole time, you thought you were helping; making things easier; supporting him. No... No, his words rattled your heart to accept that you were now the bane; the object of his ire. You and your relationship was what was wrong and was causing Carmy hurt and professional complications.
Something you never wanted to contribute towards. You both always said if this relationship got to be too hard, you'd walk away. Better to feel anger than resentment; and now, you knew you had to walk away else risk that resentment fester.
Carmy started up again, "I don't need to provide amusement or enjoyment, I don't need to be someone's 'to have and to hold'. I don't need to receive any amusement or enjoyment, nor for someone to have and hold me... And I'm completely fine with that. Because no amount of good is worth how terrible this fucking feels." You were ready to open your mouth, but he finished by nailing the final nail in the coffin of your relationship, "It's just a complete waste of fuckin' time - entertaining what I know I shouldn't. Being in this relationship, trying to give what I don't have, wasting everyone's time."
You took your chance, speaking through your tears, "I'm really sorry you feel that way, Carmen."
"Peach?" Carmy rasped from behind the door, sounding more alert than he had before. "Baby? Hey, hey, Peaches? That you? Peach - hey. Hey," he sounded desperate as you backed away from the door, a fist pounding into the metal, "hey, no, Y/N? Y/N!" The seriousness settled over you both, Carmen understanding you heard a lot more than ever intended and once those words are out there, there's no getting them back. "Y/N, baby? Hey, no, no, Y/N - listen to me - hey, no, no! I-I didn't know you were there, baby, okay? No, Y/N, please - tell me you're there now, let me explain." He paused. "Let me explain! Please! C'mon, baby, please, let me fucking explain - tell me you're still there! Y/N? Y/N!"
You sniffled and walked away, feeling smaller than you ever had in your life. You barely noticed when the kitchen door opened, not until a figured dressed in black stopped you. "Peach? Hey, hey," Richie halted you - taking note of the tears. "What's wrong? What happened? Are you okay - who fuckin' did it?"
You just stared at Richie for a long moment, opening your mouth twice before sighing and smiling sadly. "I never wanted to be what got in his way," you whispered sadly. "I'm sorry, Richie."
"Peaches, hey, what's - "
But you reached up to kiss his cheek, "Tonight was so beautiful, Cousin, and I'm so fucking proud of you all. Thank you for everything - not just tonight, Richie, but everything you do." You smiled again, whispering, "Take care of him. Okay? He'll need you."
"What're you talking about? What's going on? Where are you going? Hey, where are you going, Peach, please?"
"Have a good night, Richie, I love you," you whispered, leaving out the kitchen door as quickly as you could. "Hey," you sniffled, approaching Dani with the Fak Brothers, "can we go now, please?"
"Are you okay?" Dani worried in shock.
"I'd really like to go, Dani, please," you rushed, throwing your coat on and smiling at the Brothers as if your heart wasn't in pieces. "Thanks again for tonight, you guys, it was magical."
"Peach? Wait, hey, are you okay, baby? What just happened?" Neil worried, watching you snatch Dani's hand, but pause when screaming was heard from the kitchen. Everyone stared at the door, Neil muttering, "The fuck are they...?"
"Now, Dani, please," you whimpered to your friend, who wasted no time in escorting you out of The Bear. The moment you were outside, you burst into sobs, Dani grunting a little as she lead you down a side alley to lean you on a brick wall and beg you to breathe normally.
"What the hell just happened? Hey, honey, you need to breathe," she smoothed hair off your face - but it was like you were drowning in the air with the way you gasped and gaped and panted and whimpered and choked yourself.
"I-I-I-I think - I think w-we're done, I think we're done, I think - oh, fuck - I think we just broke up," you sobbed, hands on your knees. "Oh, my God, Dani," you whimpered, "I-I think - I think we're done, Danielle, oh, my fucking God. I-I heard things tonight that I just - I can't not know, anymore! He said - fuck! He was just so candid, he didn't know I was there so h-he was sayin' things I have t-to now confront - and I really didn't fucking want to! He just - he doesn't want to really marry me, D, and-and-and he was apparently looking a-a-a-at rings - fucking engagement rings! But then he said that w-was the issue - he missed the fridge guy's call 'cause he was looking at fucking rings for me and this is why he missed opening night - 'cause the fucking fridge broke! Oh, my God, Danielle, i-i-it's my fault, it's my fucking fault, he missed the most important night of his life and it's my fault - "
You were cut off by your stomach lurching, emptying your insides onto the pavement. The delicious appetizer, the tantalizing main course, Marcus' fresh baked bread that was delightfully soft on the inside yet baked crisp on the outside, and every bit of the sweetened dessert - all wasted on Chicago bricks.
"Okay, okay, ah, shit, just get it out, babe, there you go," Danielle held your hair, catching you in a suffocating hug once you were done puking. "I've got you, babe, I've got you. You're okay, no, hey, this isn't your fault. I've got you, come on. I think we need pints of ice cream and the saltiest pretzels we can find," she pushed some hair from your sticky forehead, pouting dramatically, "maybe some Pepto? Few Saltines and ginger ale? C'mon, we're going back to mine, there's a good girl," she coaxed you from the ground and away from the wall, "c'mon, you're stronger than this. There's my girl, here we go, just one foot in front of the other - together, with me, just like that."
You sobbed, not knowing that Sydney and her father stood listening just a few feet away behind a set of dumpsters.

The moment the freezer's door was open and Carmy was free, he was sprinting around the kitchen to grab his coat, leave Neil in charge of closing, and racing out the door as the Fak Brothers yelled at him for hurting your feelings.
"Hey, hey, hey, Chef! Carmy, wait!" Sydney chased him outside.
"No time!"
"Wait! She went with her friend!"
Carmy came to a tripping halt, catching himself before he hit the pavement before whirling around to approach her, "What?"
"Her friend? She was with some girl tonight?"
"Yeah - yeah, yeah, yeah, uh, um, that's - yeah, that's Danielle," Carmy nodded. "Her best friend, yeah, they were here tonight, sitting with Pete and Sugar."
"Listen, Carmy, I heard them when they left the restaurant... Peach was really upset, like, more upset than I've ever heard, saying you two broke up? Or something? She cried so hard, Carm, she actually threw up, it sounded like she was in genuine distress. I-I didn't know if I should've intervened, but her friend was with her and helping."
"Shit - fuck - Goddamnit," he seethed. "All right, thank you - "
"I doubt they went to your place, I think I heard her friend saying they were going to her apartment."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, great, I know where Dani lives, thanks Syd!" Carmy bid, sprinting in the other direction - never bothering with the public bus system, just running into the night. Sydney was left to sigh on the sidewalk, Neil and Theo joining her before Richie followed - all watching Carmy disappear down the sidewalk.
"He's a fucking idiot," Richie shook his head.
"What the hell even happened?" Syd asked.
"Carmy mouthed off in the walk-in, Peach heard it all," Richie supplied. "You know the dumbass was gonna propose tonight?"
"What?" Syd blinked in shock.
"Yeah," Neil tacked on, "we had a whole plan and everything. Candles, soft music, flowers - there's a bunch of flower bouquets in the walk-in."
"I'm sure that was hard for Carm to look at," Syd sympathized.
"Doesn't excuse whatever he said," Richie snapped. "She looked devastated."
"She cried so hard, she threw up in the alley," Syd frowned.
"How do you know?" Neil asked.
"I heard her," the other chef frowned. "My dad and I - we actually both heard her."
"Jesus fuck," Richie seethed.
"I mean... Should we still set up?" Theo wondered to his brother. "What if they kiss and make up, like always? Carmy might still wanna go through with the proposal, right? You know?"
"Maybe," Neil trailed, looking at Richie.
"I don't fucking know," he sighed, hands on his hips.
"She thinks they broke up, I imagine whatever she heard was pretty nasty," Sydney frowned. "Think they'll really make up tonight?"
"Let's hope," Richie sighed. "That fuckin' idiot isn't gonna find anyone better than Peach. Fuck," he looked around the city street. "All right, fuck it, fine, let's fucking set up. Not like the jackass deserves it, but let's do it for Peach."
Neil and his brother grinned at each other, turning to hustle back into The Bear - leaving Sydney and Richie on the street. No words were exchanged, just silent shakes of their heads before they followed the Faks with the intention to help set up for a proposal nobody even knew if would still happen.
The cold night burned Carmy's lungs, but it was nothing compared to the feeling of suffocation he felt earlier when listening to one of your voicemails while trapped.
Your words were sweet as pie, as they usually were; a voicemail left when you were still at work, but feeling so excited to see him that night that you just had to call him. You reminded him of the adoration and love you held for him, relaying how proud you felt - and that you knew Mikey would be, too. You were always doing that, reassuring Carmy; and maybe that's why he felt so freaked out, he wasn't used to it. Even after almost 7 years together, he just wasn't used to what he didn't know he deserved.
Because Carmy didn't think he deserved anything remotely close to love, understanding, compassion, patience, and / or reassurance.
He had sobbed out loud as he locked his phone, not having the heart to delete your message. He often never did - he liked listening to your voice on long, hard nights; it brought him peace when the world felt too loud. He also kept whatever little notes you left for him, even going as far as to get a few of your hand-drawn hearts tattooed on his forearm. One for each anniversary you've shared together. He realized he never wanted to be without you and all his doubts and fear was him projecting his own incompetence towards this relationship; so, he locked his phone, he didn't delete your message.
The moment the fridge door had been opened, Carmy was out of there, shot off like a Roman Candle - your words of love and understanding still ringing in his ears as he was freed. He needed to apologize, and he needed to apologize right fucking now.
The whole run to Danielle's apartment, Carmy wasn't sure what to say to you; mulling over different ideas in his head. He tried to plan his speech, but the only thing he could think of was how much he loved you and that the ring in his pocket weighed a hundred pounds.
He pounded at Danielle's door. Carmy paced slightly as he waited, knocking frantically, and surely waking the neighbors - but that didn't matter. All that mattered was talking to you, something he was desperate to accomplish. When the door opened, your friend offered a stale look and shook her head, "Nope."
"Dani, please," he halted the closing door, "it's all a misunderstanding, I swear to God, please, just - let me try to fix this. Please, okay? I-I need her - I fucking need her and I have to fix this 'cause she's all that matters, okay? So, let me talk to her - please. Please, Danielle!"
"Yeah? The only thing?"
"More than anyone, more than anything - more than The fucking Bear, I swear to fucking God, Danielle! Just - Just one chance, please. I-I don't know how it all got so fucked, but please, I have to try - "
"Whatever you said in that freezer, Carmen, fucking gutted her, you hear me?" Dani stood in her doorway protectively. "Should've had your ass frozen for the hurt you caused her. How the fuck do you intend on making this right? Huh? It's been almost a fucking decade, dude, if you're seriously still afraid of commitment, just fuck off and leave her alone. Let her walk away 'cause I promise, there's a line of dudes who would love to put a ring on her loyal-ass finger - "
"Please, let me fix this," Carmy begged, sounding close to tears. "I need her, Danielle, please."
"It's okay, D," a voice whispered from behind Danielle, and when she turned, you were revealed - jacket and purse in hand, looking completely exhausted, drained, and disheveled. "I'm just tired, Dani, but we have to talk about this... So, I'll go home with him and call you tomorrow, okay?"
"You sure?"
"It's a decent walk, gives us too much time to talk," you shrugged, refusing to meet Carmy's bloodshot eyes. "Thanks for tonight, sorry I was such a mess," you whispered, hugging your best friend since pre-school.
"Girl, don't you ever apologize to me. But hey, look, I don't know, you were just drowning in your tears, like, five minutes ago. Sure you really wanna go? You can stay here as long as you'd like, girl, fuck him."
"Better to work it out now than later, I guess," you whispered, letting her kiss your cheek and see you guys out.
"She calls me cryin', Carmen, I'll kick your ass," She threatened as you moved down the apartment's hall. You might've snickered just a little, but the amusement was wiped clean when you rounded the corner and came up to the elevators.
Now that it was just you two, it was dreadfully awkward.
"Baby - "
"Just - don't talk for right now, Carmen," you sighed, shaking your head. "I'm still digesting all you said."
He frowned when you walked onto the elevator without a single emotion on your face, following you, and when on the ground floor, moved out to head home. It was quiet, it was awkward; only the sounds of traffic filling the space between you as you walked.
"Listen," he started with a long sigh, "you came in at the worst time, Peach, heard some shit you shouldn't have that I-I didn't even mean. I was just," he paused, sighing, "really angry and frustrated, fucking running my mouth 'cause I didn't know what else to do."
"Sounded like I came in at the best time since you're not very forthcoming with emotions. So, hearing your confession put a lot in perspective for me, Carm."
"I was just angry, Peach," he frowned, hands deep in his pockets. "Felt like I was self sabotaging myself, I wasn't sure what else to feel. So, I just lashed out. I didn't mean it, but I just felt like being angry... So fucking angry, baby, I just - I didn't know what else to feel."
"I don't know if I can be with someone like that," you whispered. "Someone who throws our relationship under the bus when he's angry, someone who's first line of defense is apparently to blame the relationship he's been in for over half a decade with the same girl. Someone you've known your whole life..."
"Peach - "
"If it's that easy for you to just disregard us, I don't think we should continue this."
Carmy took a breath and reached out to pull you to a stop. He dug in his pocket for a moment, then showed you the black velvet jewelry box. "I was gonna propose tonight, when everyone was gone," he explained when you took the box to open gingerly. "I think because that was on my mind already, something I was more than nervous to actually do, you're right, it did become my first line of defense to blame us - not just you, baby, but us. You and me... Mostly me, though," he chuckled sadly. "You're this perfect, sweet angel who just loves me out loud when I don't deserve it, and I'm... I'm just me," he sighed, eyes reddening. "And I know I'm never gonna be enough for you, I think I started to get in my head about if you said no. How I missed the call from Terry about the fridge 'cause I was picking out an engagement ring that you didn't even want, that you rejected - rejected me; and in turn, I missed opening night, and it all just - it got to a boiling point. Look, Peach, it's never been a secret that I don't think I deserve you... But I wanted to be the man that could at least give you an honest try of my best. You've stuck by me the past seven years when you should've ran for the hills, and I knew I wanted us for life years ago - but everything was still so up in the air. So confusing. So fucked up. I figured, after opening tonight, if things went t'plan, I could propose - prove to you that we're on our feet and there weren't any rugs to be pulled."
"What if things didn't go to plan?" You whispered.
"We're kinda living it now," he admitted, hand rubbing the back of his neck. "But even if tonight was all a total failure, I know I might've still done it because it's you, Peach. It's you... I've known for years you're who I want, I just never knew how to do this - to move us forward. You're my first relationship, hopefully my only relationship, and I just didn't know how to advance us. I think when things got real for me, my insecurities crept in, and I just reacted - I didn't think."
"We always said when this wasn't healthy or when this wasn't good for us anymore, we'd walk away," you reminded. "That we'd rather be sad or angry about a breakup instead of letting resentment fester from being together."
"It's still good for me, Peach, we're still good," he whispered, stepping closer. "Is it still good for you? Or did I lose you completely tonight?"
"I don't know, Carmy, you've been lashing out a lot lately. At me specifically."
"And with The Bear now open, I-I should be okay. You know? Back to normal?"
You chuckled dryly, "I see, back to your high walls? Emotional constipation?"
"Then maybe not normal," he corrected, "because I just needed to get us here, to tonight, to opening, and then show you that it's over. Show you that part of our lives is over and we only have more adventures to look forward to. Not ones like this, though," he gestured up the street, your eyes cutting over and realizing you were back at The Bear.
"Do you really think you're a psycho?"
He chuckled, "After tonight? Yeah, pretty convinced... Plus, I, uh, I saw in the freezer the way we're labeling things - and got angry about it. Angry about the way we were tearing tape and labeling things. It was so fucking stupid, but I just - I felt so crazy. I still do, I still feel like my head doesn't make sense and I'm a bit, you know... Crazy."
You nodded slowly, "Then how can you promise me this kinda shit won't happen again?"
"I don't think I can, but I can make you the promise that I am working on it; trying to identify when I feel reactive, trying to calm that down. I'm trying, Peach, I really am - it's just... Taking a lot of time," he sighed sadly. "And I know you don't have any more left to give me."
"I've already given you this many years," you reminded softly, "I think I could spare another or two if it meant you getting your shit together, that you get better, stop feeling so crazy."
"I don't deserve anymore time - "
"I think you need to step back and reevaluate what it means to be deserving because you always say that. That you don't deserve something - even as simple as time. Everyone deserves time and opportunity to figure shit out, Carmy, and you're no exception."
He nodded, "I'm... Trying." He took a long, deep breath, "I'm, uh... Going to meetings, you know, like, uh, Al-Anon and whatever."
"That's good, they're there to help," you nodded, stepping closer to take his hands in yours after closing the ring box and stuffing it back in his pocket. "Now, I think you need to do something."
"Anything, Peach."
"Take my hand, bring me back to The Bear, and go about your plan."
He froze in shock, blinking at you in earnest, "You really mean that?"
"Do I look like I'm joking?"
"No, ma'am, and I think that scares me more."
"You'd rather break up? 'Cause at this point, Carm, we either move forward with this engagement and fucking work our shit out, or we break up. It's been almost a decade. It's your choice, you're the one who was saying he couldn't be someone's husband, that he didn't need to provide anyone nor have them provide you with anything. So, you tell me what you want to do - because all I know is that I love you, I want you for life, but not if you're going to resent me and regret moving our relationship forward. I don't need to get married, Carmy, but you can't keep jerking me around like you have been. So... Make a decision based on what you want - based on what's best for you. Not what's best for us, but put yourself first right now, Carmy, and make a decision about what you want."
With a nod of his head, Carmy cleared his throat and offered you his hand. When he felt you lock your fingers with his, he glanced up and down the street, then lead you across it. Up the sidewalk and to the front door of The illuminating Bear, he paused to produce his keys and then lead you inside.
The lights were dim, but a flip of the switch brightly lit up the newly constructed restaurant. He seemed nervous at your cool demeanor, watching you shed your coat and set your purse down; but his hand took yours again and lead you further into the place. He seemed nervous, but once in the kitchen, it was almost like Carmy's stress melted away.
"I was... I had this plan," he explained softly, leaning on one of the work stations with both hands in yours to keep you in front of him. "I have all these candles, right? Was gonna distract you in here," he looked around the fluorescent lighting, "while Richie, Fak, Tina, and the others set everything up. We'd hang in here after the place was closed down, you know, show you around the completed kitchen. And really casually, I'd ask if you were ready to go, so, we'd go out the front, and we'd walk right into the candlelight..."
"Yeah?" He nodded, thumbs running over your hands as he pushed off the counter. "Don't deviate from your plan now..."
Carmy smirked, "Wanna hear the boring kitchen stuff?"
"Of course, I do."
So, he lead you around in a tour of the kitchen; showing off the new office space that he invited you to take advantage of whenever you wanted. The sleek appliances were shown off, the vast fridges, freezers, new cutlery, state-of-the-art dishwashers. Everything, he showed you, knowing you helped him pick a lot of it out - it was still nice to see it all come together finally.
And then, slowly, he lead you out of the kitchen, but to your honest shock, the dining room was covered in lit candles and different bouquets of thick, gorgeous floral arrangements. "Oh, holy shit," you breathed, Carmy hiding his confusion much better than you.
You came to a slow halt in the middle of the room, the lights out and only leaving the candles to provide an ambiance. "I had this whole speech planned, too," Carmy told you softly. "Remind you of the day we met, how you saved me from those jackass bullies - remember?"
You smiled softly, emotions swirling in your chest, "First day of first grade, you had a Buzz Lightyear backpack and some kids were picking on you 'cause of it."
"And what did you do?"
You felt bashful remembering, but humored him by answering, "Pushed their faces in the mud at recess and made them apologize."
"You've been my best friend since that day," he nodded, bringing you in a few steps closer. "And when we got to high school, my feelings changed. You weren't just my best friend, but the girl I was madly in love with... Took me a couple years to buck up the courage to ask you out officially, though."
"Sure took your sweet time," you whispered with a smile, "but all good things to those who wait, right?"
"And I think you've waited long enough for a man to be who you deserve," he frowned. "All these years - it's been you at my side. You even - fuck - you even came over to Amsterdam for a bit because I was feeling overwhelmed and lonely. Sad, maybe even a little homesick. But you just - you just showed up like it was the most common thing in the world."
You chuckled through your tears, "Yeah, we had some good times on that boat, didn't we?"
He nodded with a softening smile, pushing hair from your face and behind your ear; pausing to hold your cheek carefully. "And when we came back stateside... You were still the only constant presence in my life. You were my family without blood, and I knew after that Christmas that you'd forever be my other half, and I'd spend my life conveying how grateful I am for you. I just - I never knew how to put it into words until now."
"What changed?"
"Realizing that I wanted to marry you years ago - and I should've. I know I shouldn't have drug my feet with us, delay our inevitable, because honestly? I couldn't see my life without you in it and I knew I needed you with me forever. Peach," he frowned, reaching for your other cheek, "we agreed when this wasn't healthy, we'd walk away - I remember that. But I need you to know, I'll never fucking regret you. I'll never resent you. You've been unwaveringly supportive and loving and... And I've been the luckiest man to experience it all. But now," he pushed himself a step closer so he was hovered over your lips, "I know that you deserve someone just as present in this relationship as you are. I knew once The Bear was done, I was done - I was done beating this bush around and wasting time. I knew what I needed to do because the idea of you not being in my life anymore terrifies me more than anything. I don't remember life without you, Peach, and I don't ever want to know what it's like. So," he cleared his throat, "here, in the restaurant I so desperately wanted to give up on so many times, but you always stopped me, I wanted to make this official. I wanted it to be here to show you that the past year of our turmoil - it's fucking over, Peach. We did it," he whispered, "and now, the next and only thing I want to focus on is us."
Carmy readjusted you both for a little bit of space, holding your left hand tightly as he lowered himself to a single knee; looking up at you with those big, wide, sad blue eyes that were growing redder by the passing second. The candlelight created a romantic atmosphere that cocooned you both in a warm embrace, the flowers around you projecting their floral scent.
"So, I need to ask you something real important, baby," he whispered, his throat bobbing to restrain his emotion that clawed up his throat, "because if I don't, I don't think I could breathe again." He cleared his throat, pulling the ring box from his pocket and opening it to present to you officially. "Y/F/N Y/M/N Y/L/N... My sweetest Peach, I've loved you almost my entire life, you're my best friend, my most loyal and sweetest confidant. You make me want to be a man better than I was yesterday and never before have I ever seriously considered marriage - until you. Now? Now, I can't get the idea out of my head, so, my sweet girl," he took another breath, the tears in his eyes swelling and slowly dripping down his cheeks as you slowly got on your knees in front of him, "I need to ask you... W-Would you do me the honor? Of being my wife?"
"Carmen."
He grinned at you, both with tears down your cheeks. "Will you marry me, Y/N? I can't see my life without you in it, so... I want this, I want you for life. Y/N, will you marry me?" He paused, adding a meek little, "Please?" at the end.
With a deep breath, you slowly reached for his cheeks in a soft caress to wipe his tears; both just staring at one another for a good few moments before a face-splitting grin nearly cracked your lips. "Yes," you finally answered, "yeah, yes, yes, of course, I'll marry you, Carmen, yes!"
"Oh, thank fuckin' God," he laughed, letting you lunge forward to knock him backward in a hug - missing the candles arranged in a small circle for you two to stand in. Carmy laughed loudly, happily, giving you a tight squeeze as he mused, "Had my heart beatin' outta my chest for a second there, Peach."
"Oh, please," you laughed, "after all this time, you really thought I'd say no?"
He shrugged meekly, "Thought my most recent fuck-ups would've added to any reasons you might have to say no."
"Oh, spare me - you're my best friend, Carmy, you know I couldn't ever say no to you. Not without puking in nervousness."
"Can we maybe not talk about puke when we just got engaged?"
You laughed and nodded, "Fine, fine, fine, then put the ring on, please."
You presented your left manicured hand, watching Carmy almost giddily removed the band from the box, took a slow, deep breath, and then, the most beautiful ring was being slid onto your finger in an official show of your engagement. Of your undying love. Of your commitment, promises, and future together.
"YEAH!" An array of varying cheers and hollers of support and excitement rang out around you; startling both you and Carmy to look up. Richie, Sydney, Tina, Neil, Theo, Pete, and Sugar all hung in the bathroom's alcove - watching with splitting grins and cheering in celebration.
There was no time to question them as Richie lead the charge over; helping you to your feet for a giant, bear hug before gushing over your engagement ring. Neil and Theo popped one of the authentic bottles of champagne, pouring different flutes for those present.
"Calm down," Natalie scolded Richie lightly, "and move out the way, I want to hug my engaged bestie!"
You squealed with Sugar when her arms wrapped around you tightly, Rich moving on to congratulate Carmy - who apologized for his angry words earlier and thanked them for still setting things up. Richie promised it was for you, not Carmy, but still hugged the little shit with a laugh - indicating he was just joking.
"Let me see!" Natalie grinned, examining the ring Carmy chose and squealing again. "Oh, my God! Oh, it's so pretty! Oh, shit - sisters!" She gasped, holding your hands tightly, "We're going to be sisters - like, officially!"
"Sisters in law, but yeah, cupcake," you beamed at her, wiping your tears and giggling. "I can't - this just doesn't feel real," you told her softly, looking the few feet over to see Carmy with the lads as Sydney stood with you and Sugar. "Him proposing? I genuinely thought it wouldn't happen," you tried to laugh your nerves off, looking at your ring and fiddling with it.
"Yeah, right," Sydney laughed. "I haven't been around that long and even I knew this was gonna happen."
"Oh, please, she's right," Natalie grinned when you went to retaliate, "he first started talking about how he wanted to marry you when he was, like, 15. This has been the longest thing coming."
"Thank you guys for helping," you whispered with a smile. "It's all so beautiful."
"Happy to help for a good cause," Syd smiled, complimenting your ring as Neil called for a toast. Everyone was given flutes of champagne, Carmy's arm wrapping around your waist as each friend gave their own little speech, congratulating you both before the alcohol was being drained.
"Uh, and where are you two going?" Sugar asked about an hour later with a small giggle when Carmy wrapped an arm around your neck after helping you into your coat again.
"Gotta celebrate alone with my fiancé," he smirked, "later, guys! Don't forget to lock up!"
"Carmen!" You scolded with a small laugh, gaping at him.
"What? They got this," Carmy chuckled. "Thanks, you guys, see you tomorrow!"
"We can help clean," you told him as he lead you out of the restaurant.
"Nah, we've got bigger plans," he smirked at you. "Got plenty t'celebrate, yeah? Ever fucked as fiancés before?"
"No - but I hear it's some crazy sex," you whispered, locking your arms around his waist to stay close. Neither of you cared about the bus at this hour, opting to walk home in the cold - not that you felt it. Your love burned brighter than the cold biting your skin.

The uniform beat of the clock was the only sound in the room as it ticked away. It seemed to echo throughout Steve Raglan's office. The silence was unnerving, and the ticking of the clock seemed to be a constant reminder of the fact that time was indeed slowly crawling forward with each minute that passed.
Sitting in his swivel chair, Steve glanced over some client files, occasionally humming to himself as he used his feet to turn himself in his chair; side to side. Letting out a silent sigh, he closed the dull yellow file and sat it on his desk with the others. Pushing up the bridge of his gold-framed aviator glasses, Steve looked up at the clock. Upon reaching his scheduled lunch break, he pushed himself off the chair before grabbing his coat and shrugging it on. Adjusting his tie as he left his office, he walked down the hall, passing other offices before exiting the large building. 
It was a bright afternoon, though Steve hardly noticed as he made his way down the sidewalk, a certain confidence in each step. As he walked, he passed by the local flower shop, which stood beside a small bookstore, before crossing the street and the busy intersection to pass by the park. This was a part of Steve's routine, every weekday since about a couple of months ago. He always left his office at the same time for lunch, passed the same shops and stores, and entered the same diner for that said lunch. 
Pushing the glass door open, Steve walked in, only to sit down at his usual spot. Though the restored diner from the 1960s was practically in new shape, the edges of the red leather booth where Steve sat were beginning to peel from age. The menu board was still hung up behind the counter, along with other posters, antique metal signs of cars, and other things that had been in the diner longer than Steve cared to really care about. The jukebox in the corner was softly playing a song, ‘Put Your Head On My Shoulder,’ a song by Paul Anka. The walls were a pastel blue, red, and white, with some white tile detailing here and there. 
Going to the diner was routine for him, as said before, he went there every weekday to get his lunch. But he didn't go because the food was out of this world, or to appreciate the aesthetic of the place or anything like that. No, he came for you. 
You were a waitress at the tiny diner, dressed in the typical 1960s waitress attire, you scurried to the awaiting people, pouring their drinks and serving their food. Sure, there were other waitresses there, but they weren't you. No, there was something special about you that made Steve want to come there every day for the sake of seeing you. You were beautiful, with bright, sparkling eyes, and soft lips that spoke words so sweetly. You just gave off a feeling that made you stand apart, an aura of warmth and affection. So Steve took a liking to you. And he couldn't understand why he did, no matter how hard he tried. He just felt drawn to you. Like magnetite to a magnet.
Walking out of the backroom, you froze, seeing Steve sitting in his usual booth, hands clasped, looking out the window. Letting out a breath you didn't even know you were holding, you felt your heart begin to race. Oh, what that man did to you, even just his presence alone brought a smile to your face. Brushing down your waitress skirt, you didn't bother to grab your notepad and pen from your skirt pocket as you walked over. You knew his order well. Well enough that you had it memorized; a BLT and a cup or two of black coffee.
Stepping in front of the table, the man looked up, your smile softened slightly, "Good afternoon, Steve. Do you want your usual?" You asked, and what you had asked him practically every day since he came into the little diner a couple of months ago. 
The man gave you a small grin back, his clasped hands shifting slightly, making you look down at the movement; his sleeves were pushed back above his elbows, strong forearms exposed. Steve noticed your gaze, his eyes glancing down at your mouth as you bought your bottom lip in between your teeth, "Good afternoon, Y/N. Yes, I would like my usual." He answered, his words making you look back into his blue eyes before you cleared your throat nervously.
You gave him a nod, bits of stray hairs falling in front of your face as you did so, "... Alright, I'll make sure that it arrives soon." With one last look at him, brushing the stray hairs behind your ears, you headed towards the kitchen. 
Steve watched you go, staring after you until you disappeared around the corner into the kitchen. He sighed quietly as he leaned back in his seat. Meanwhile, you leaned against the wall near the kitchen door, letting out a breath as you pressed your hand on your chest, feeling your racing heart pound and hammer against your chest. Taking one last breath, you got a hold of yourself, pushing through the large kitchen to find Pete, the chef. 
Peering past a metal counter, you smiled at the old man who was mixing some sort of salad, "Hey, Pete," You grinned, "We got a seven and a black coffee." You spoke, gaining the man's attention. Pivoting his weight to his hip, he placed a hand there, tilting his head as he took in your expression; but mostly your eyes. He could tell that something was going on. 
"He's here, isn't he?" Pete asked, watching your face flush, as you glanced and looked everywhere but at him, his grin widened. 
"Yeah, Pete, he is. Can I please just get his order? Please, no teasing." You begged with a slight whine to your voice.
Pete, an old man in his sixties, had been working at the diner since he was in his twenties; and had been sort of a cool uncle figure to you, only shrugged his shoulders. Turning back around, he began to prepare Steve's order. "Sure thing, dearie," He replied softly, chuckling lightly. "You should probably head over and get him his coffee, don't want Marie to get to him before you do. She won't be so merciful."
Nodding your head you rushed out of the kitchen, heading behind the counter, passing Marie, who only grinned as you passed by her. Pouring the black coffee, you let out one last breath, mentally hyping yourself up before you walked back over to Steve. 
He raised his head, meeting your eyes as you carefully sat the coffee down in front of him. "Thank you, Y/N." He spoke, giving you the same small smile that made you want to melt. 
"You're welcome, Steve. Is there anything else you'd like while you wait? We just added a blueberry pie to the menu this morning." You asked, but the man just shook his head, his intense gaze unmoving as he gave you a small toothy grin.
"No, I'm alright."
Nodding, you gestured back to the kitchen, "I'll, uh, go check up on your food then."
Rushing back to the kitchen, you found Marie inside, Pete still working on the bacon portion of Steve's order. Marie turned to you, arms crossed and an eyebrow raised. "He's here." She sang in a soft sing-song voice, smirking.
Throwing your hands up, you huffed, "Yes, that's quite obvious. He's here every day at twelve-thirty on the dot." You retorted.
Marie laughed, shaking her head, "I just find it funny is all."
You furrowed your eyebrows, watching as Pete began to chop up a tomato. "What's funny?"
"That you get so flustered around him." She answered, making you look down at your feet.
Marie had been your best friend since you were both in high school. She had been in the same few classes with you, and the both of you had gotten along great, even going to the same college. Later, you both tried going your separate ways, but this town had some pull on the both of you - so you both ended up working at the diner after a while of job searching. She was usually the voice of reason, the one you looked up to whenever you had a difficult question or task. She really was a great friend.
"I try not to be." You answered simply, turning to Pete, "Is his sandwich ready?" You asked as the man nodded, stabbing the red foil-tipped toothpick in the center of the bread; topping it all off. 
“This might be the best one yet.” Pete marveled, staring down at his sandwich with pride, but without another word, you grabbed the plate with the BLT and pushed the kitchen door open.
Walking over with his food, you felt your irritation fade away as Steve looked up, his grin growing. Placing the food down in front of him, you noticed that his coffee cup was empty. Gesturing to it, you spoke, "Would you like a refill?"
"Yes, thank you," He spoke, watching as you quickly grabbed the coffee pot from the counter across from him, pouring more of the coffee into his cup. "How has your day been, Y/N?" He asked, you had been preparing yourself for today's conversation.
"It's been alright," You said, your voice soft. A nervous chuckle escaped you before you continued, "Just trying to keep busy. How's everything with you?" You asked, hoping to change the subject a bit.
“The same as usual, I'm afraid." He answered, similar to what he told you every time you asked him how he was.
"Well," You cleared your throat, "I'll let you eat. Let me know if you need anything, okay?" You asked, smiling slightly, giving him one last look before walking back to the counter.
"Of course..." He muttered, mostly to himself, watching as you slid behind the counter with your co-worker, grabbing a rag and beginning to clean the marble with it. 
Looking down at the table, his sandwich seemed to stare right up at him. Picking it up with both hands, he bit into his BLT, taking a moment before letting his eyes wander the room before they settled on you once more. Watching as you talked with your co-worker, a smile on your face and hers. The co-worker occasionally glanced over at him, making him turn back to stare at his table, chewing his sandwich slowly. Straining his ears, he tried to listen in on your conversation.
"He's staring at you again," Marie spoke under her breath, "It's kind of creepy." 
Hitting her arm with the rag, you lightly glared at her, "Don't be rude. Or too loud… He might hear you…" 
"What?" She asked defensively, "It is, he's looking at you like a creep."
"And what about that? Should I be worried?" You challenged, raising an eyebrow as you went back to rubbing at the counter in front of you. “I think it’s sweet,” You muttered, and Marie didn’t seem to notice.
Sighing, she shook her head, crossing her arms, "I mean, maybe? Who knows? Maybe he's some serial killer."
You sputtered a laugh, raising your hand to cover your mouth, "You're ridiculous, Marie. He may be a bit… Antisocial, but that does not mean he’s some crazy murderer.”
Marie sighed again, glancing back over at him, "He’s still staring."
"I doubt it." You let out a small laugh, shaking your head. "I'm not someone to stare at."
Marie stared at you, raising her eyebrow, "Girl, you're gorgeous. Shut up. And he is, look."
Rolling your eyes at her, you worried on your lip as you glanced over at him, noticing that he was indeed staring at you. It wasn't hard to notice that fact, with how much his eyes were locked onto yours, especially when you could almost feel them piercing through you. Your cheeks flushed with heat, as your stomach twisted and flipped. You dipped your head, biting into your lip with a bit more force so as not to let the growing smile slip onto your face.
"I might do something risky," You muttered, your voice soft, breathless. Marie noticed, raising both her eyebrows this time in surprise. “I’ve been thinking about doing it for a while…”
"Oh, wow, he's really got you wrapped around his finger, doesn't he? You're whipped."
You shook your head, twisting the rap between your hands, straining your fingers slightly with the force, "No, I'm not."
"You're whipped. Smitten. Absolutely enamored. You've got the hots for this guy." She continued to tease, making you let out a deep sigh, tossing the rag down on the counter. "What are you planning to do exactly, hon?" She then asked, noticing that she really wasn't helping you in this situation.
"I might give him my number." You muttered, taking a quick glance over to see him finishing his coffee; plate clean. You couldn’t help but admire his side profile, taking in his perfect features. His dark hair, sprinkled with gray, looked so soft. It looked like it would be great to run your fingers through it. Your hand moved to the front of your head, pulling on a loose strand of hair before returning it behind your ear. You wondered, as you stared at him, if his beard would be soft or rough... “Oh God...” You murmured under your breath.
Marie took a step forward, placing a hand on your arm, snapping your gaze back to her, "Hon... Uh, you don't have to listen to me… But isn’t he a bit too old for you?”
You tilted your head at her, confusion etching onto your face, "Too old?"
She nodded her head, "Yea, y'know, he's like forty or fifty or somethin'. There’s a pretty big age gap between you two.
Blinking your eyes rapidly, your lips parted slightly, sort of speechless. "Marie... I don't care how old he is... I don't care about age gaps. If I was like eighteen, then yeah, that would be a problem to me, but I am twenty-five... I just... I don't know… As long as we are two consenting adults… I- uh…" You trailed off. “You’re stressing me out.”
“I’m sorry,” Marie smiled sweetly, patting you on the shoulder gently, "Don't mind me then. I just want you to be a bit cautious… That is, unless he's super rich, then I say go for it.” You shook your head, letting out a small chuckle, before nodding your head towards the man in question.
"I should check on him. His lunch break is almost over." Marie watched you go, sighing before she left for the kitchen. Walking over, Steve sat his empty coffee cup down, looking up at you with a small grin, a strange glint in his eyes. "Ready for the bill, Steve?" You asked.
"I believe so," He sighed, grabbing into his jacket pocket beside him to grab his wallet. "Same as always?" He asked, and you hummed in confirmation. Pulling out a twenty dollar bill, he handed it to you. Your fingers brushed his as you took it, trying to ignore the sudden tingling feeling in your stomach at the contact. Stuffing the ten in your pocket, you pulled out a ten dollar bill. But, Steve only shook his head, “You keep that.”
Nodding with a small, grateful smile, you nodded, “Thank you, Steve.”
Shaking his head, he stood, "You don’t have to thank me. Your service was excellent, as always." He said simply, slipping his arms through the sleeves.
"Thank you," You muttered softly, blinking rapidly before you stuffed the money into your pocket, quickly opening your notepad and writing something down.
Steve watched you curiously as he adjusted the collar of his coat before you ripped the paper from the small notebook and handed it to him; unable to meet his gaze. He opened it slowly, his eyes reading and rereading the number - he could only assume it was your number - that you had haphazardly written down for him; though you were quick to write it, it was still neat and Steve could read it easily. Looking up at you, you finally managed to glance back up at him.
Folding the note, Steve slid it in his pocket, "I'll see you tomorrow?" He asked simply, watching as you nodded. He hummed, glancing around the features of your face before he found himself raising his hand, brushing the stubborn wisps behind your ear, the tips of his fingers lingering a second too long on the softness of your cheek before he pulled away. Your eyes widened a fraction, your lips opening slightly as a small, inaudible gasp left you. Steve swallowed thickly, swiftly turning on his heel before he lost what little control he had over himself, walking out of the diner, the door shutting behind him.
Standing there, you stared after him, letting out a sigh. What was that? Not that you were complaining. You slowly raised your hand, brushing your fingers along the same trail that he had touched moments ago, feeling the warmth. He had been so gentle and careful and... So warm. It felt good. You couldn't help but smile lightly. You hoped that he'd call you.
And he would. You'd be hearing from him soon. Very soon.

December 16th
“This is past the point of ridiculous,” Paul says as I drift off on his shoulder for the second time. We are sitting in the living room of his house, a movie playing lightly in the background, one that I am struggling to pay attention to as I am snuggled into him. It’s a comfort so natural I don’t even realize I am falling asleep until I am awakened by Paul.
“The nightmares were bad last night,” I say groggily. Paul’s face is hard, and I already know what’s coming before he says it.
“They aren’t YOUR nightmares, Anna,” he tenses, voice harsh.  
“They feel like it sometimes,” I admit.
I can’t pinpoint what was the straw that broke the camel’s back, but Paul is over Bella’s mood. Maybe it was when I was so sleep-deprived, that I sobbed into his shoulder after school, unable to focus on anything as exhaustion took over my body. Maybe it was when I fell into such a deep sleep, he couldn’t wake me up, which terrified him. Whatever it was, he wanted it to end.
“She’s being selfish,” he hisses.
“Don’t say that.”
“She’s been ignoring everyone for months, and you are bending over backward to make sure nothing happens to her.”
I still hadn’t told him about the Volturi, that it wasn’t just about protecting Bella and Charlie anymore. It was about avoiding being hunted down. I knew it would just add fuel to the fire. The boys were already working themselves to the bone, just the three of them.
I also hadn’t told him about everything my parents left me in their will. It was still overwhelming, and Charlie and I had yet to go through all of the paperwork, but the assets and money alone were insane to think about. I never really thought about how old my mother was, not after she started aging normally with my dad, but it was old enough to have a great amount of wealth apparently.
“I think Charlie sees how bad she’s getting,” I provide, hoping that will quell his anger.
“It’s been bad, Charlie has been suffering too.”
“I’ll talk to him, okay? Get her help,” I say, hoping to move on.
“Or a psychiatric hospital.”
I flick his arm, “Seriously Paul, don’t say that about her. She’s family.”
He tsks and leans back on the couch, this time staying silent as I drift off. Before I am lulled off completely, I feel Paul kiss my temple tenderly.
I smile softly, he can never keep up the asshole schtick for long.

December 21st
After months of practice, my magic felt easier now, more natural. I had pretty good control of it, even fire was less terrifying than before. I got to use my abilities around the pack and Elders more as I trusted more people to know. If they could keep the boy’s secret, I knew they could keep mine. Slowly, I started speaking to individuals about it, and most reacted with a simple nod and a smile. Harry jokingly named me the official fire starter for the meetings.
Kim had been the first one we clued into my abilities. The girl had fallen into our routine well. It was often that Emily, Kim, and I found ourselves together as our respective partners roamed the woods. Another hiker had gone missing, and we had a sinking feeling they wouldn’t be able to find them alive.
She handled it in stride, just like she had Jared’s shifting. She didn’t ask too many questions, which was a relief. Most of the tribe had the notion of “less is more,” when it came to me and my nature.
All except for Billy Black. He asked more questions than even Sam did in the beginning. Knowing my father and mother personally, he drilled into me one council meeting. It took a promise to come over to his house the next day to quell his curiosity for the time being.
That’s where I found myself now, staring at the front door of the Black house, hesitant to knock in case Jacob would be the one to answer it. Our friendship was tentative still.
Taking a deep breath, I knock. To my relief, Billy answers.
With a smile, I greet him, “Hey Billy.”
“Anna, come on in. I made coffee.”
“You know the way to my heart,” I joke, following him to the dining room table. Two cups already sat in the middle. I sit down, holding the mug for warmth.
“Is Jake…”
“Out with friends,” he says, and I nod. There’s a beat of awkward silence before he begins to speak again.
“So, Will and Aurelia… they left Forks for a reason?”
“I can only assume so, they didn’t really talk much about it in detail, at least not to me.”
“What was she?”
I flinch, “Faerie.” I say simply. Billy just nods.
“I guess that makes sense, there was always a feeling around her, something not quite human, at least in the beginning. I thought I was just paranoid, especially when I stopped feeling that sense so strongly.”
“She gave it up to be with him,” I say, “When she got pregnant, they told me they were worried about vampires, she might not register as a Fae creature as strongly, but I would. That’s why they moved.”
“Anna, I hate to ask this but, do you know how they died?”
“The official report is a break-in gone wrong. But… I was the one who found them,” I choke, tears welling in my eyes, this was a detail I don’t talk about, with anyone really, “It looked like a massacre. I don’t think whoever was responsible was human.”
Billy grasps my hand on the table for support as a stray tear falls down my face.
“My mom thought it would be safe here, I don’t think she knew about the Cullen’s”
“She didn’t, they only moved back a few years ago. Until Sam shifted, we weren’t entirely sure that the stories were just that, stories,” he solemnly says, “I wish I had known, to warn them.”
Something in me breaks as the weight of the situation falls onto my shoulders.
“There’s something else, about their murders, but you can’t tell anyone yet, not even Paul.”
Billy gives me a skeptical glance but nods.
“I think the people that killed them, the vampires, were a group called the Volturi. They are some weird leaders in their world, who are old enough to remember the Fae. My mom was trying to through them off our scent, but I think they caught her up to her. I’m worried they will eventually catch up to me. I wasn’t home that night, but unless they didn’t go through the house, they know another person lived there.”
“You know we won’t let anything happen to you.”
“That’s the thing, Billy… if it comes downs to them tracking me here. I don’t think you or anyone else should try to protect me. It’s not worth losing the lives of many just for mine. Especially the boys, I don’t think it’s fair of me to ask that.”
“Anna, you are a part of us now.”
“I know you all have welcomed me with open arms, but I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if anyone died for me. I can’t. It’s not my right to expect that of you all.”
Billy’s lips are pressed in a tight line, and I can see he is struggling not to argue. In the end, he gives a curt nod.
“This seems like a conversation we should all be a part of, and we will have. But for now, we can table it. I would still like to talk about Will and Aurelia a bit, I have plenty of embarrassing stories about your father for you if you like to hear them.”
I wipe the tears away from my cheeks, happy for the break, “I would love that.”

December 28th
I walk into the house after spending the day with Angela and Jessica. Over Christmas, they had gotten some money and gift cards and wanted to go shopping in Port Angeles before school started up again. Charlie’s car is gone, so I knew it was going to a “fend for yourself” night. Paul was with Sam and Jared, so I was alone for the first time in a few weeks. Throwing my keys onto the entryway table, I turn and jump to see Bella sitting on the couch.
She’s wrapped in a blanket, with deep bags under her eyes and sullen cheeks. She seems dim. The life and color sucked out of her. The tv is off, there’s no book in her hand, and she is just staring, eyes glazed over.
I take a breath to prepare myself and step into the living room, she doesn’t even look at me.
“Mind if I sit?”
She doesn’t answer. She doesn’t even acknowledge me. I sit next to her, and she does something that surprises me. She moves the blanket to cover me as well.
Tentatively, I wrap my arms around her in a hug, instead of pulling away, she leans into me, her head on my shoulder.
I rub circles on her back and brush her hair back. It’s not until I feel wetness on my shirt that I realize silent tears are falling from her eyes. A deep sigh releases from me, but I don’t say anything.
We stay like that for a while, Bella is desperate for connection, and I’m desperate to have her back. Exhaustion takes over her, and I gently move her, so her head is laying on my lap before I fall asleep too.
Bella does not wake up that night.

“Have I ever told you that I hate the cold,” I say wrapping a blanket closer around me as I sit on the edge of Sam’s truck bed. The beach is frigid, especially at night, and would normally be empty, but everyone is out preparing for New Year’s fireworks. We all brought pillows and blankets and chairs to watch them all together, turning the bed of a truck into somewhat of a pillow fort.
“Yes, my love, you’ve told me every day since the snow started to stick,” Paul says adjusting the beanie on my head, so it covers my ears. I press my cheek into his warm hand. He smiles at me, laughing at the number of layers I have on.
“There’s too much snow,” I mutter.
“It’s normal for this time of year.”
I roll my eyes, “I’m not doing any more outdoor activities until it’s at least 70 degrees. You can tell Emily.”
“So, I guess we will see you in May?” He lightly taps my nose and I pretend to try and bite him.
“May! Jesus, I miss when my winter was a cool 50 degrees,” I groan.
“You know there’s a simple solution here,” Paul smirks.
“Don’t say it.” I point a gloved finger at him. He throws his hands up like he’s innocent. I had convinced him to at least try and blend in, with a hoodie and jeans on instead of his usual cut-offs. I would be stealing the hoodie later tonight. The one I was wearing now was already too cold.
“What’s the point of having a supernaturally warm boyfriend if you don’t take advantage of it.” He jumps onto the bed of the truck and slips behind me. He removes the blanket around me, ignoring my cry. He put it around him to get closer to me, wrapping my back up, this time in his arms. I lean into him as he peppers kisses on the side of my face, arms squeezing me close.
“Because you get handsy,” I point out as fingertips lightly lift my hoodie and graze over my skin, leaving goosebumps.
“I do not.”
I give him a look.
“Okay maybe a little,” he gives, “I can’t help it, I feel like I’ve barely seen you lately. I’ll be happy when we catch the leech killing all of the hikers.”
“I will too, I miss you,” I say kissing the back of his hand.
“I miss you too.”
The moment is interrupted by Jared jumping over the side of the truck with a bang, followed by him is Kim, who he lifts up easily.  
“Okay love birds, break it up,” he says, and I roll my eyes.
“Big talk from the biggest sap here,” I joke.
“No, that title still goes to Paul, you should hear him, all night it’s “I miss Anna, I hope Anna is okay, Oh, I wonder what Anna is doing right now.” It’s incessant-“
Paul throws a pillow at him to shut him up, but I’m already laughing.
“Cute,” I whisper to him, and a blush creeps up onto his face.
“Ready for fireworks?” Sam says, walking up to the truck hand in hand with Emily.
“I’m ready for a space heater,” I groan. Emily laughs at me.
“My poor girl, you’ll acclimate eventually," she says tenderly.
“Honestly, I don’t want to, out of spite really. It is a crime for this to be normal weather. One day I’ll take you all to one of the places I grew up, you’ll see then.”
“Looking forward to it,” Paul says into my ear, his head leaning on my shoulder. Even through about four layers of clothing, he really is helping with the cold. His arms are still around my waist, hands resting on my hips.
We all settle into comfortable positions, Paul and I move so he is leaning against the back wall, with me still in between his legs. Jared and Kim have taken our place on the edge, sitting side by side. Emily and Sam sit in the chairs they brought, Sam playing with the ring on Emily’s left hand.
“Any New Year Resolutions?” I ask Paul, who thinks for a moment very seriously.
“Keep you safe, spend more time with you, figure out if there’s ever an end to all this,” he shrugs.
The confession weighs more than he lets on, you can feel longing from him. Tuning in a little more to the connection, you feel a bit of fear and a lot of weariness.
I turn to face him and place a hand on his face, “I’m sure there is an end. You deserve an end. To do whatever you want.”
“We don’t all get what we want though do we?”
I sigh, “Maybe not, but we can figure out what we want together. Maybe it’ll be easier that way.”
“Everything is easier with you.” He meets my gaze earnestly. I smile softly. It pulls on my heartstrings when he is so sincere like this.
“Well, there you go.”
“What about you?” He asks, and it takes me a moment to think.
“I hadn’t really thought too hard about it, but they are probably the same as yours.”
I don’t know how well he believes me, but before he can say anything, murmurs of the countdown to midnight begin, and his attention is pulled away from me.
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!
As the fireworks begin, I pull Paul into a kiss, it’s a little desperate. I kiss him like it might be the last time, even though I know it won’t be. He matches my intensity as his hand holds the nape of my neck, the other wrapping around my waist to pull me onto his lap. My hands travel up to his neck and face, and I try my hardest to enjoy this feeling, committing it to memory.
The one true thought I have about the next year screaming in my head.

No questions asked she immediately supported my decision.  “I hope ya’ll got some ideas to continue the storyline then because I’m outta ideas,” Paul said throwing his hands up in the air as Shantell laughed.
“I’m sure we can figure something out if we put our heads together,” she said walking over, gently placing Joshua in my arms. "I gotta work baby,” she whispered against my lips, stealing a kiss before turning around to leave.
“Have a good show baby,” I said as she gave Paul a hug and left the room.
“I’ll leave ya’ll be, just enjoy this time with the baby and each other,” Paul said as I stood up to shake his hand.
“Thanks for understanding,” I said as he softly kissed Joshua’s tiny head, putting his hand on my shoulder. “No problem, family always comes first, I understand it and appreciate it,” he said walking out of my office.

I knew Jey was torn between his job and being a dad. I needed to talk to him to see where his head was at. I know for me I can say that running Smackdown from home was easier for me. I could do my job without the constant comings and goings. Then on the other hand I would miss Jey like crazy, so I knew my decision was to go back on the road.
“Jey, did you put Joshua in his room?” I asked walking into our bedroom after my shower.. “Shhh, I got him,” he whispered lifting up the comforter as I see him curled up on his chest, asleep without a care in the world. “Ok, my heart is going to burst,” I said putting my hand over my heart. “Come on over here, we been waiting on you,” he said patting the spot beside him, smirking at me.
I didn’t need to be told twice as I climbed into bed and snuggled in his arms. “See you gon’ spoil me, and I’m not going to want to go back to the busy lifestyle of our job,” I whispered as he laughed. “So, what else had Paul talked about before I came in,” I asked caressing his arm.
“He was talking about the match with Jimmy. I told him straight up we didn’t mean for it to be now. Our dream is to face each other in the main event at WrestleMania when we decide to hang the boots up, “he said hesitating trying to find the right words to say.
“You want to be each other’s last opponent,” I said completely understanding what he was trying to say.  “See you get me, and this mess they trying to put together is just a cash grab. So, no I’m taking my time off with you and the baby. We figure the shit out when we get back to work,” Jey said running his hands over his face.
“Ok, I know when you do that you’re stressed, so what else did he say?” I asked as he looked at me worried and anxious.
“I won’t be able to take extensive time off for another year. That pushes our wedding back because it was so much, I wanted to do,” he said nervously.
“Sir, we could go to the courthouse tomorrow, and get this thang poppin’,” I said honestly as he gave me a small smile.  “I wanted to take you to Hawaii, and have a ceremony with our family,” he said as I cut him off with a kiss.  “I just want to marry you,” I whispered against his lips as he groaned pulling me closer.
“Jey, don’t worry about it, a year gives us time to plan. I promise everything is going to be beautiful when we do get murdered…I mean married,” I joked trying to get him to relax as he smirked at my antics.
“So, a year from now, we’re getting married in the flower circle surrounded by our families, right?” he asked holding out his pinky finger as I laughed, locking my pinky with his. “Yes, I promise, I’ll be the one in the veil down front,” I whispered as he kissed me.

Shantell’s POV
“Let’s go Fatu!” I yelled as Joshua lifted his little hands in the air mimicking me cheering for his dad as he laid his head on my shoulder. The bloodline feud was finally coming full circle as it was culminating in a fatal four way. Jey vs Roman Vs Jimmy Vs. Solo.
 “Come on Jurdy!” Trin screamed beside me as we both laughed.  They were putting on a hell of a show and we couldn’t be prouder.
“What did we miss, I hated to leave but the baby is sitting on my bladder,” Tangela said rubbing her small baby bump as Sofia helped her sit down. “You having fun watching daddy Cameron?” Sofia asked as he smiled jumping into her arms.
“I’ll take that as a yes,” she laughed coming to stand beside me at the barrier with him.  “I think they're in the final act,” I said turning back to the action.
“Let’s go Sefa!” Sofia yelled as Solo in spite of himself smiled at her lightly, hiding his face from the camera.
Joe’s POV
“Let’s take it home ya’ll,” Jey muttered as I nodded. All of us got up staring around looking at each other, and the crowd as they chanted, "This is awesome!"
“Yes, it is! Ya’ll tearin' it up!” I heard Tangela yell as I shot her a quick wink before we all broke off brawling. “It’s your time bro,” I muttered to Solo as he was trying to control his emotions.
“Ya’ll sure bout this,” he whispered as I went down from his Samoan spike. Jey and Jimmy took turns hitting me with their signature splash as I lay there unmoving.  “One of ya’ll cover his ass!” Trin yelled as Solo attacked Jey and Jimmy. Throwing them out of the ring,he quickly covering me.
I could hear the chaos and excitement as the crowd counted in unison “1,2,3!” and it was over. “I love you, Bro,” Solo whispered as I felt my emotions getting the best of me. “I love you too, make us proud,” I responded rolling slowly out of the ring.
I wanted him to enjoy his moment. “Your winner and New Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion, Solo Sikoa!” Samantha’s voice rang out through the arena as I crawled off to the side to watch him celebrate his moment.
Shantell’s POV
“Yes!!! Go Solo!” I yelled as Jey walked over and gently kissed me. “I love you,” he whispered taking Joshua from me as he laid his head on his shoulder. “I love you more,” I said as Jimmy came over and took Cameron, placing him on the edge of the ring as he took off running to his dad.
“Oh my gosh, ya’ll get a picture Sofia,” cried as Joe climbed back in and they posed with the kids in the ring. “Aye, we wanna thank ya’ll for really rockin’ with us on this Bloodline story. It was a lot of twists and turns we took ya’ll on, “Jimmy said into the microphone as the crowd cheered.
 “Thank you to our family, we love all ya’ll. We will never forget this night ever,” Jey said as I wiped my tears as they all embraced in the ring.  “This is our bloodline!” Solo screamed holding Joshua and Cameron in his arms with the undisputed championship around his waist.
“Yep, I’m a bucket of water now,” Trin said crying as Tangela stood up coming closer. “Girl, I been there,” she said laughing through her tears. “Oh, hell no, here comes the camera,” Sofia said trying to wipe her tears. “Girl, it’s over, we on the big screen lookin' a hot crying mess,” I laughed pointing up at the screen.  We took a few more pictures of them in the ring before heading backstage.
“So are you ready Shantell?” Trin asked as I placed my hand on my heart. “I’m nervous, but I can’t wait,” I said honestly. We were flying out to Hawaii to finally get married. Paul had given us the private Jet for the trip.
The gorilla erupted in applause as they appeared backstage. Sofia took off running to Solo as he caught her in his arms. “I’m so proud of you baby,” she cried as he embraced her tight crying himself.
Little Joshua was almost asleep on Jey’s chest. “I really love you,” I told him, just feeling so proud of him as he kissed me. “I love you too, let’s go get married,” he whispered against my lips as I laughed. “Yea, let’s go,” I said caressing his face as lil Joshua reached for me. “You little cockblocker,” Jey laughed as I slapped his chest. “No, my baby ain't,” I said laughing as he put his head on my shoulder, closing his eyes.
“Well, what do you call that?” Jey asked with humor in his voice pointing at him fighting to keep his little eyes closed.  “He’s tired, it’s been a long day,” I said rocking him in my arms as Jey caressed his little cheek. “I’m kidding baby, Goodnight, buddy. Daddy loves you,” he whispered kissing his cheek.
“I’ll let ya’ll gather up your things, I’m going to put him to bed,” I said giving him one last kiss before walking away. “Alright, Mrs. Fatu,” I heard him mutter to himself as I smiled. Yea, within the next 48 hours I was about to become Mrs. Fatu.

Jey’s POV
“Mom, Pops, and Tanya are already there waiting on us trying to make sure the wedding decorations are right,” I said talking to Trin as she smiled at me.
“So did ma make your lei out of maile leaves,” she asked as it was my turn to smile. “Yea, she did, and its beautiful. She sent me a picture of it, and she’s going to do a flower crown for Shantell to wear at the reception,” I said looking around at my family.
Man, this tight family circle was the true definition of ride-or-die right here. I’m nervous as hell, but I know I’m ready to make Shantell my wife. I was ready when I proposed, as far as I was concerned she’s been my wife. I just hope it’s everything she dreamed it would be and more.

Solo’s POV
So, I want to make a toast to my new daughter and my son,” Pops said raising his glass as we toasted Jey and Shantell.
“So, are we still on for Shantell’s Hulu Practice tonight, “Trin whispered as I nodded trying not to draw attention to us as Jey was focused on pops and Shantell out on the dance floor.
“Yeah, Shantell has been practicing a lot but is overthinking it,” I whispered looking at Jey. He is going to be so surprised. I know he felt at times he was forcing our culture on her, but she was very interested in learning about it.  I smiled seeing Shantell and Pops heading back to our table.
“Joshua, your wife is a little tired. I think you should walk her back to her room,” pops said as Shantell quickly winked at Trin and I. “Man we really doin’ this not seeing the bride before the wedding,” Jey mumbled.
Shantell’s POV
“Yes, we are, and you gon’ do it with a smile,” Sandra said as I laughed giving Joshua a kiss. “We got the baby, you both get some rest tonight,” my mom said as I hugged her in thanks.  “Let’s go wifey,” Jey interrupted giving a cheeky smile before steering me away.
“No funny business, and I mean it,” Sandra said as we laughed walking out the door happy, but also dreading being apart even if it’s only for a day. It was almost like we were walking in slow motion trying to stall before we would have to say goodnight.
I texted Solo and Sandra to meet me in about an hour to go over the Hulu dance one more time. I wanted to do the dancer for Jey because it is a symbol of love and respect for our marriage in their culture.
Jey’s POV
It was good to have some alone time, as short as it was. Shantell stood beside me seeming to be in deep thought about something.
“You ain’t having second thoughts, are you?” I asked nervously as she laughed. “Nah, you ain’t gonna get rid of me that easy,” she whispered wrapping her arms around my waist as we walked to her room.
“You know I ain’t walked you to your room since before Money in the Bank almost two years ago,” I whispered as I shivered at the memory myself. “Yes, I remember that night, Heyman catching us outside my door,” she blushed as I pushed her up against her door kissing her breathless.

“Baby, we can’t," I moaned against his lips desperately trying to pull him closer. “See this is what happens when you deny me for two weeks, we are both horny as shit,” he growled moving his kisses to my neck as I involuntarily leaned back against the door.

“I haven’t seen him all day and I’m nervous,” I moaned as Trin fixed my veil, pulling it back over my head. "Girl, take some deep breaths, ee got you," Trin said smiling at me. “Shantell, you look beautiful, Jey is going to flip when he sees you,” Sofia said fixing her dress.
“Are ya’ll ready?” my mom came in looking at me in tears “Oh, my baby Is about to be somebody’s wife,” she cried as I tried to stop my tears.
“Mama, you makin’ her cry,” Tangela said as my makeup artist Gina moved aside so my mom could come beside me.
“I’m so proud of you baby,” she whispered hugging me as I let the tears flow not caring. “I love you, Mama,” I whispered hugging her tight. “He better take care of ya’ll or I’ll kill him,” she said lightening the moment "Mama, he will and we will take care of him," I assured her pulling away, wiping her tears.
“Mama, we were doing alright until she saw you,” Gina Joked as my mom smiled at her moving aside so she could touch up my makeup. “I’m sorry, this my baby, I can’t help it," my mom said sniffling as I pouted. “Ok, are we ready for the first touch,” Trin asked picking up the back of my dress as my mom blindfolded me, leading me across the hall to see Jey.
“Mama, this ain’t fair! I can’t see her, I wanna see her,” Jey whined as my mom placed me against his back as he reached for my hand.
Jey’s POV
I could feel her against my back, but I couldn’t see her. This is torture right here. “I need you to put this in your pocket,” Shantell said handing me a red small silk bag. Not thinking, I placed it in my pocket trying to control my emotions as I saw the outline of her veil. My mind was done for, I knew she was gorgeous and I couldn’t wait to see her. I closed my eyes tight trying to not sneak a peak at her.
“Did you open it babe?" she whispered as I kissed her hand. "No, I didn’t baby," I answered honestly. “You gotta open it!” She exclaimed as I smiled. “They said I had to keep my eyes closed,” I said as the photographer interrupted us “You can open your eyes, just don’t turn around to look at each other,” she said lightly laughing at us snapping away.
What had she done, all I had done was write a damn letter. I reluctantly let her hand go to open the silk bag, my body shook with emotion as I saw a heart shaped pendant with a picture of my uncle Ecky with my brothers and me inside it.
“Wow, thank you so much baby,” I whispered taking her hand gently placing kisses all over it as a few of my tears fell onto her hand. “This way he’s here with you today, and every day,” she said taking a deep breath as her voice broke. I nodded overwhelmed by her and the things she does for me trying to control my tears.
Shantell’s POV
“Alright! let’s get married,” I sighed as he leaned further against me. “Hell, yea let’s do this,” he whispered as I could faintly hear Ed Sheran and Beyonce cover of Perfect playing as Trin winked at me pointing to her phone letting me know she was playing the song as I grinned brightly at her.
 My girl always comes in clutch for me.  “Mannn, your suit feels so good,” I whined as he laughed.  “Geez, what is this?” I questioned as my mom laughed along with him as I rubbed his arm. “I had to look good for you,” he said as I took a deep breath.
“You smell so good too!” I Exclaimed resting my head against his back. “What I smell like baby?” he asked cheekily as I sniffed again and whispered, “Sex on legs,” as he laughed out loud still holding onto my hand. “Ya’ll ready to get married?” my mom asked as we both nodded.
“Alright, we gotta take her, you’ll meet her in the flower circle," Sandra said reaching over to wipe Jey’s tears as he gently released my hand. Trin and my mom ushered me out of his room before he could see me.

I was almost scared to open it as I took a deep breath and began reading.

Today is a special day, it’s the day we become one. I hope I never disappoint or hurt you. On this day I promise to be the best man I can for you and our son. Through the darkest of times, we made it baby, and I can’t wait to make you Mrs. Fatu.

“Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to celebrate and witness the marriage of Shantell and Joshua. In planning this beautiful occasion, they emphasized to me that this wedding isn’t only about their connection but to celebrate the reconnection of their families as well as new beginnings,” he said as Josh smiled at his mom and mine.
“This circle we have formed here today represents an everlasting bond like Shantell and Joshua’s love. It can’t be broken, not by time, distance, or death.  Shantell and Joshua opted to do their own vows and wanted to speak from their hearts. "Joshua take this ring and place it upon her finger,” the priest said as Josh he gave our son to Jimmy before grabbing the ring to place it on my finger.
“Shantell, with this ring I promise to always make our family's love and happiness my number one priority. I will dream with you, celebrate with you, and walk beside you through whatever our lives may bring. It will always be you and me baby. You are my forever person—my life, today and always.” Josh said his voice slightly breaking as he caressed my hand before I smiled at him wiping my tears.
Jey’s POV
“Now, Shantell place this ring upon Joshua’s finger,” the priest said passing her my wedding band.
“Joshua, with this ring, I promise to be your lover, companion and friend.  Your partner in parenthood, your ally in the conflict even if I disagree. I’ll always be your #1 fan and your toughest opponent,” Shantell said as light laughter could be heard around us.
“Most importantly, I will be your person. Always know that there is nothing we can’t overcome as long as we have each other and our family. I am ready to face anything with you by my side.  I promise to protect your heart and love you with everything in me until death do us part,” she smiled, reaching up wiping my tears as I kissed her hand.
“Can I please kiss her now?”, I asked just wanting to feel her in my arms. “Yes, you may kiss your bride,” the priest said as I gently swept Shantell up in my arms in a passionate kiss as our family and friends celebrated. “I love you so much,” I whispered as she moaned against my lips. “I love you more,” she whispered back, hugging me as I kissed her shoulder.
“May I present Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Fatu,” the priest announced as I held Shantell tight in my arms. “We did it, baby,” she whispered as I held her tighter. “We sure did,” I said as Jimmy leaned over, passing Joshua back to me as he reached for Shantell smiling. “Hey, mama missed you,” she whispered holding him close as we posed for the photographer.

“Where did Shantell go?” Jey asked, getting antsy as mom had rushed her away to change clothes about 30 minutes ago.
“Sit here, and be patient Jey,” I said pushing him down in his seat. He always has to be in control, I hope that is something Shantell can break him of. I see his body still as Shantell came out and began dancing, doing her interpretation of the Hulu dance.
The flower crown mom had made brought out the colors in her new dress. She looked even more beautiful than before. I smiled as Trin came over and hugged me.
“Shantell is doing great,” she said as I nodded in agreement. “Your dance on our wedding day will always be my favorite though,” I whispered kissing her on the cheek.
“Aww, Jurdy stop making me cry,” she said wiping her fresh new batch of tears. “Girl, you been a bucket of water all day,” I said hugging her as she laid her head on my shoulder. “I’m just so happy,” she whispered as I held her tight. “I’m happy too Trin, really happy,” I assured her as we turned back to watch Shantell finish her dance.
Shantell’s POV
“You betta dance Mrs. Fatu,” Jey said as I smiled at him as I continued to dance for him. As I spun around my eyes met Sandra’s as she winked at me, nodding her head. Her approval motivated me, as I turned back around to finish the dance.
Hearing the applause when I finished made me feel accomplished, I had a hard time learning the dance, so this was a personal triumph for me. I saw my husband wiping his tears as he stood up walking towards me.
 “You did that baby, it was beautiful,” Jey said taking me in his arm as I looked around for Solo. “What’s wrong?” Jey asked as I smiled at him. “I was trying to find Solo, I wanted to thank him for helping me,” I said honestly.
“Baby, Sofia, and Solo went upstairs if you get what I’m saying,” he said raising his eyebrow at me as I laughed, seeing Joe come over with Joshua. “We bout to take my lil nephew to bed, so get love Mama and Daddy,” he said smiling as I attacked his little cheeks with kisses.
“Good night, baby see you in the morning,” I whispered as Jey kissed the top of his head. “Night lil man, be good for Uncle Joe and Auntie Tangela,” he said as Joshua put his head on Joe’s shoulder.
“Ok, ya’ll have fun and we’ll see ya’ll tomorrow,” Joe said as I pouted watching them walk away. “Aww, mama cut the string, Uncle Joe got him,” my mom said hugging me as I sighed against her. “I know mama, it just gets hard to let him go.
