I know this post is late, but one comment i saw made quite a bit about the moon knight finale is “why didn’t Marc and Layla kiss????”

and aside from the whole “i love that we’re shown couples can be physically affectionate outside of kissing” response, there’s another more probably reason:

In the middle east, making out is one type of display of affection that is NOT done in front of others, especially in public. It’s considered a special intimate act that’s only supposed to be shared between the couple themselves. (fic writers please take note!!)

Not even during the wedding. There is no “you may kiss the bride” at the wedding. (I mean they usually kiss the foreheads or hands, but not the lips)

It’s a cultural thing. Kissing isn’t bad, it’s just something that’s supposed to be personal, private, and intimate. Not even in their own homes in front of other family members.

I know many won’t understand, because that’s clearly not the case in Western society, but I can’t stress enough that it’s less “kissing is bad” and more “good intimate loving acts like kissing are private” please respect that

In the actual show, Layla and Steven did kiss, but they were secluded in an open space with no one around for miles and no one saw.

In the finale, Marc and Layla were among many other people, and Layla herself is an Arab woman so it makes sense that those two got used to hugs, and little wholesome touches, instead of kisses in public.

I mean, even when Layla thought Marc was dead, she kissed his forehead. (usually scenes like that have them kiss the dead person on the lips, and I was 100% expecting that). During the boat scene, they hold hands, and even later that same episode, they hold hands again. Clearly touches like that are their love language in and out of public and I think that’s beautiful.

Coming out from under my rock today to say Youtuber!Steven:

Runs an educational channel where he gushes about ancient Egypt after he and Marc realize it's hard for Steven to hold down a regular job when Marc fights crime on the side. Marc brings up the idea. Steven isn't sure he'd be any good in front of a camera but Marc insists he can just talk to Marc in the camera's reflection.

Steven's editing skills are...questionable at first but people love him for how adorable and excited he gets. He responds to every. Single. Comment. Until it physically isn't possible anymore.

Jake will make stuff for the channel sometimes and Steven jokingly refers to him as his "editor", and talks to a little cartoon version of him onscreen sometimes (a la Markiplier and Lixian), mustache and all. Everyone thinks it's a cute gag rather than a recreation of an actual conversation.

Marc REALLY hates being in front of the camera despite his encouragement but Steven manages to convince him to do a drunk history type video and everyone is amazed at his American accent and finds it hilarious how drunk "Steven" suddenly can't get any ancient Egyptian history right.

Layla makes guest appearances to talk about the politics of people owning artifacts that don't even belong to their culture. Steven has a good time discussing how to still have museums and exhibits to teach about different cultures without taking away their artifacts (while sharing marshmallows of course). He becomes very flustered about the influx of people suddenly "shipping" them and Layla and Marc tease him relentlessly about it.

So yeah, Youtuber!Steven and you can pry this AU/Future HC from my cold dead hands.

*excited squealing and happy internal screaming intensifies*

You know what I really love about this dynamic?

While Marc may have been jealous over Steven falling in love with Layla at first, I really like how between punching him and helping him in the tomb in Ep4, Marc has come to accept that Steven’s in love with Layla. (Remember the angry “I’ll throw us off a cliff!!” and the resigned “So, you kissed her.”? It’s kinda telling how much thinking Marc has been doing while in the passenger seat.) And also, it’s pretty evident that Marc loves his Layla too.

So what we essentially have, is two men (alright, fine, two male identities in the same physical body, but still!) in love with the same woman (and her being in love with both of them too!) and it’s not even a problem! She’s not being painted into a corner where she has to choose, because she doesn’t have to! Layla doesn’t need to choose either Marc or Steven, she can have them both! Similarly, even though Marc loves his wife, he is completely okay with Steven falling in love with Layla.

It also shows, because in the following exchange,

Layla.

Marc.

Oh, baby.

Thank God you're okay. How did you get back?

-and here, Marc just let Steven front with easy access, Marc literally was like ‘hey Steven, I know you want to see her’ and Steven was probably like, ‘of course, lemme out!’-

Wow, you look amazing. What are you wearing? Hey, I'm really jazzed about showing you these new skillsets we have.

All right, show me what you got.

Yeah?

Yeah.

I really hope Marc, Steven, and Layla return sometime in the future, because you can’t just setup Layla becoming the Scarlet Scarab and then not have her do anything later. Also? How cool would it be - knowing that Moon Knight and Scarlet Scarab can now fly, with their cape and wings, respectively - if we got a scene where they’re both flying together 🥺
