The meaning of mistletoe by Endrina, first volume of The secret language of plants. @llendrinall I have read this charming story several times. The voice of the narration, with its fairy tale reminiscence, is something I really like. Endrina is a great author, it is worth reading their novel length fics.

What I like:

It's quite a simple binding, but something in it remind me of the old editions of my childhood. Reading it give me a special kind of joy, it's both, the comfort of this story and the childhood-like feeling this tome brings me while holding it

What I could do better:

I had problems with the guillotining of the edges, but went ahead [I had already lost a lot of material with a failed first printing]. I couldn't say what happened, but - for me - that mistake gives a Je ne sais quoi to the edition that I love. I don't know why, but when I was a child, back in the 70's, I had many books with the same feeling. The paper was a bit thicker than usual, and the edges weren't perfectly cut. I didn't realize, until I sat down to read this edition, that this binding conjures up memories of my childhood.

Special thanks: During the process, I had a severe case of printer hiccups (Or binder's brain hiccups, to be more precise) but @getfuckedblr hold my hand and helped me.

Strap in Folks: #firstbind.

My first bind was that of Solus by FettsOnTop(GTFF)

There was so so many things I've messed up with this.

From the covers bending. The spine board too wide. The cloth not being fully glued down. The thread not staying glued. To no mull and shifting signatures.

BUT and here's the big one for me- IT WAS A BOOK!

Just like how Tolkien mentioned that Bilbo couldn't begin his adventure without stepping out his door, I couldn't call myself a binder WITHOUT doing these mistakes and creating my first book. It's not fancy. But it is MY FIRST BOOK

Something I drew a while back because I saw fan art of the Disney villains and wanted to draw the TWST characters in those outfits. I made a few changes to make it the overblotters and I gave Azul legs lol. I can’t find the reference I used for riddle and Jamil sadly cause I had to add them on. It’s kinda bad And definitely not finished but I’m actually happy with it for once. It was way out of my comfort zone LMAO

I loved Here's looking at you kid when I read it, especially how the inner life of each character is developed. So when I finished reading it, I knew I had to bind it sooner or later. Seeing the fantastic job @chaoticbindery did encourage me even more. What I love: Not to mention the beautiful typesetting of @chaoticbindery I'm also happy with the monogram that includes Blaise and George's names.

What I learned: It's the first time I've done a larger, more complex design on HTV.

What I need to improve: I have to be careful not to overheat the cover: I noticed the letter H was crooked, that happened because when it was ready, I realized that not everything had transferred well, and I applied heat again, but I wasn't very careful.

Still, I like this one.

btw thinking about vending at cons fr now..

#some of my irl friends have been trying to convince me to sell my art at cons for a while #and today's experience at game on expo had really motivated me to actually start thinking about it #while i was waiting in line for astarion's VA meet n greet-#i got a lot of compliments from fans around me about my illustration when i opened up the portfolio binder #i decided to offer giving some away because i printed out a little too many copies #and some of them offered to pay me 🤯#and a friend who was waiting in line with me told me that this is a sign that i should really consider vending at cons lmao 🤔#a few other friends told me that they were open to helping me out since they vended a lot before 🥲#the wisp whispers

#bindery2024 just ended and I’m super excited to share the 2 books I managed to finish this year!

The first one I did this month and year was a sketchbook! The inside is blank, perfect for writing, notes, doodling, anything really. The spine is bookcloth and the covers are csrdstock. Same for the front- it’s just a Star Wars comic line art I found and printed on my laser printer. I messed up with this one. Getting endpapers aligned is still the death of me. That being said! I love the look and feel of this book. I love how I can carry a nerdy sketchbook around and customize it to ME!
