✨ Chronotopia Spotlight 7 - Romance & Love scenes ✨
I was a little hesitant to use common visual novel labels for Chronotopia at first as the whole genre relies heavily on the exploration of romantic relationships and it's not really the focus of the game.
That being said, Kionna will indeed be able to pursue 3 different love interests at the end of her journey: her childhood friend Nahima (GirlxGirl), the mysterious Fairy (GirlxGirl) and the « Prince » whose identity is a little surprise (GirlxBoy).
Each character has a brief bad ending so you better pay attention to what they tell you.
You can enter a short route with one of those characters depending on your choices up until that point. There's a bad ending for each, as well as 2 versions of the good ending: a 'sensual' one and a platonic one.
Some choices are pretty obvious, huh~
If you select the first one, you’ll be treated with an intimate moment between the characters with its own slightly erotic illustration. It’s meant to portray the peak of Kionna’s relationship and add more character development~
Intimate CG by Mae. The art style for these moments is much more minimalistic but it conveys human warmth quite well in my opinion~
Though I need to stress that the main version of the game will absolutely stay All-ages so breasts will be hidden and no genitals will be shown either!
Out of the three love interestes, whose ending are you aiming for? The reliable childhood friend? The dangerous fairy? Or the pure-hearted prince?

the other chart sorts the seasons by how i would adapt them. sometimes this is based on content. sometimes it's based on gm style. sometimes, it's just the vibe the season gives off as a whole. without further ado:

these seasons are short enough to fit in a single feature film and not quite long enough for a series. the source material just feels more live action to me, especially because there are other seasons that just feel more animated. keep in mind there will be a practical effect focus. just imagine the balloon elf. cartoon logic, live action movie.

these are long enough to be series with some depth. tuc is on here because it feels like a superhero series. they're teaming up to save new york, but also really finding the humanity in each other. the funny reason is because finding someone to play ricky matsui is hilarious. also i want to see a kugrash puppet.
aso is on here because it's space opera and watch the gunner channel be bozos in live action? hilarious. i've seen some animatics that are incredible though, so this season could go either way.
acofaf is here because i'd want to see the costume department go ham. bridgerton but fairies? guess what. diverse actors, tons of practical effects, a little raunchy, a little heartbreak, what more could you want.
tv series (animated):

as stated earlier fantasy high is a running animated series with two current spinoffs: one movie (pol) and one miniseries (t7). combination high school slice of life with action/adventure.
acoc is a game of thrones style series--animated to keep the comedy, with trw functioning as a hotd style prequel series. the calorum seasons could easily read live action though, just like aso could be animated.
neverafter is animated, but the style changes throughout the season. maybe they start live action and become animated when they wake up in the new timeline. no change in world physics, no acknowledgement, just a seamless switch. ooh maybe they shift to traditional animation when they're in the lines between.
video games:
shriek week
coffin run
these come down to gm style and also system. shriek week is already a cryptid dating sim. coffin run is crunchy, a little bit horror with a lot of adventuring options to explore.

*this is in reference to the adventuring academy episode the new mr. peanut, wherein lou wilson creates a snack rating system for brennan lee mulligan based on a scale of 1-5 almonds. exceeding the 1-5, i.e. reaching 6, means you go to the salami scale.

I know we there are times when we all need something to keep The Sims feeling new and exciting, but we can't always run out and buy the newest pack. I designed this challenge to help get some creativity flowing and push me outside my CAS comfort zone.

So like, I’m in the process of making my own otome/dating sim game (spoiler: Since I can’t do software and techy stuff, It’s gonna be on tumblr.)(or google slides lol)(There’s probably not gonna be much art either cause I can’t draw for shit)
And I already have 2-3 Series. The one i’ve been working on for a few years (“working on”) Love Among The Stars, a newer one that’s centered around a small underground band, and another series that has Fairytale stuff (still working out the details but ya know its cool)
Butt.. I’ve mostly been writing stuff for my requests and valentines event for my fandoms I write for now, so i haven’t been doing a whole lot of writing for my game lol. Mostly just making ideas and creating characters.

Reading on your thoughts of an otome version of TWST, to be honest, I agree and I’m making a romantic fangame of TWST.
That being said, I went through like four different drafts before I settled on one that I like which is:
It’s just a dream!
A dream where everyone plays what they were inspired by in the fairytale. And when the player character wakes up, their just friends with the boys.
Otomes and romance visual novels where the love interest(s) has heavy trauma, I can never finish it. An example is Obey Me, not only does it heats up my phone, it just doesn’t sit right with me that *Spoilers*
the Mc just forgive(?) Belphagor for killing them and that he only stopped trying to kill them because they are descendant of their sister????
It’s why for my self-insert on my Obey Me blog that Obey Me!Mieka puts the brothers at a distance even as they spent time together and is only really close to the angels and Solomon. Sorry for the slight rant about Obey Me.
Oh, and the TWST boys are in their teenage years so puberty, hormones, and attending an single gendered boarding school goes not go well together at all. Drama is happening left and right, on large and small scales.

***CONTENT WARNING: I have put some of my response below a cut, as I will go on to briefly discuss self-harm and suicide.***
Oooh, how exciting ^^ Best of luck, and I hope that you’re having fun with the process of making it! Creating a game takes a lot of time, energy, and resources, so be sure to take proper breaks to avoid burnout.
Yeah, I think that the idea of a TWST dating sim (I’m going to avoid using the term “otome” moving forward, as that can be alienating for those that don’t identify as part of the “maiden” demographic that those games try to appeal to) could work as an “it was all just a dream” kind of thing. As I said in my original post, the main problems with “translating” TWST to a different genre is that a lot of what makes up the core and the identity of TWST (the realism of the relationships, the emphasis on friends and personal/individual character growth, and addressing darker subject matters and traumas, etc.) fundamentally clashes with the usual trappings of dating sims. In the circumstances of a dream, it’d be very possible to explore romance while softening the details of the original without necessarily erasing or overwriting the original events and characters of TWST. It’d also work really well with the “Wonderland” aspect of Twisted Wonderland--you, the player, are the “Alice” that has fallen into their “dream world”... but you’ll eventually have to wake up from that dream, just as Alice did.
I definitely think that involving heavy trauma in dating sims isn’t appealing for everyone 💦 I think part of the draw of a TWST dating sim is that people are looking forward to “bettering” the boys with their presence and helping them with their problems, but that in of itself is a double-edged sword. If it isn’t done well, it can end up sending the wrong message to the people playing and make them feel uncomfortable, like in the example you gave. Once, I played a dating sim which (in the “true” ending) the protagonist stabs themselves in order to show their suicidal love interest that if he were to take his own life, it would also harm the ones he loves (with the stabbing being the protagonist’s literal demonstration of them “hurting” from their love interest’s actions). That somehow convinces the love interest to not attempt to unalive himself again????????? And then they live happily ever after, recovering in the hospital together???????? That does NOT sit well with me. It unintentionally sends the message that it’s “okay” to harm yourself for love, and that it’s “okay” to hold your own wellbeing hostage to prevent someone else from hurting themselves (which IS guilt tripping). It can read as incredibly insensitive to those who are going through similar situations in real life, and it oversimplifies the very complex matter of managing one’s mental health. I worry that a heavy focus on the protagonist “fixing” the TWST boys can easily lean into misunderstanding their issues and oversimplifying the solutions, such as in the example I gave.
I think that inexperience and immaturity come with dating for both teenagers and adults. Age doesn’t always necessarily correlate with experience and maturity in relationships (though it’s certainly more chaotic when you factor in teenage hormones and people just trying to figure out who they are and what they want to do). I’m not going to speak on the subject of all boys boarding schools and how that could factor into this, because I don’t want to make sweeping assumptions without any knowledge on them. Suffice to say, I think the TWST boys would still be varying degrees of messes when it comes to romance 🤣 (as we’ve seen in Ghost Marriage). That’s very much what a ‘real’ relationship is! Not being perfect, but learning to address issues and to compromise with your S/O--an interpretation which I think fits the spirit of what the original TWST is: a world with magic and wacky shenanigans rooted in realism.

What type of video games do you like?
Pppfshhhh uuuhhhh hmmm...
I like a lot of video games. Gameplay wise, I like most of them. Although, I'll admit "point and click" or role-playing/dating sim like games like DDLC tend to bore me very easily. Just a lot of clicking and not a lot of action. I like to get active with my gaming!
Story wise, I LOVE fantasy! I like me good fairytale or legend/myth to get in to. I also just love originality. Psychonauts and Batim as good examples, because I love the world's they create. Obviously horror! Or more, Thriller, based games.
All in all, it usually depends. There's a lot of things I like in games, but also a lot of things that I don't. Usually I'm more into Story than gameplay, so if the story isn't anything I can get my grubby hands wrapped around I tend to not get that into it.
But there's a lot of non story games of course, that I love to mess around with.

Visual Novel Recs
Might just make this a masterpost and keep updating it, might make this a series, dunno! But here's some free/cheap VNs I've really enjoyed! Many of them are gay, explicitly or implied, all of them have cute girls.
cw for gore, blood, violence, drugs, etc MC is never explicitly gendered.
You have been kidnapped by a girl, and you are forced to wander her estate, discovering all manner of oddity and horror. This was a Yandere game jam VN, and it's unfinished, but what's there is really fun and fleshed out, IMO. Took me about 53 minutes to get the true ending.
Something a bit more lighthearted:
No gore, no blood, no sex, just a cute little date. MC is never gendered. 24 minutes to see pretty much everything.
cw: blood, gore, all manner of violent end, MC is a girl
Fairytale-inspired, yandere yuri. Meet cute girls that have shit wrong with them.
Utterly fantastic for a free VN. If you've played an Ebihime game, you know what you're getting into. Took me about 2 hours, 46 minutes to see everything.
Horny, explicit sex. MC is vaguely ambiguous aside from a line about romancing "another woman".
Fair warning, this is mostly male characters, but you are not forced to romance any of them, there is a succubus, she is cute. All her content took me 27 minutes.
Moonshine
CW: Het, but focuses on his relationship with an explicitly trans woman. Very sweet. It is both originally Japanese from 2007, so expect some "old-fashioned" elements, and some mild transphobia. Fair warning, this has a bittersweet ending. Took me about 34 minutes
Very worth your time IMO. Has a sequel, but sadly that one isn't translated.

hi there! i'd like to request a bts ship if you're still doing them! i hope i'm doing all of this right, i haven't really used tumblr in a while 😭
my nickname is m, i'm 23 years old! i'm an ambivert (who acts a bit more like an introvert these days), enfp, enneagram 4. contrary to what people around me think, i'm a slytherin 🙈 i used to be a lot more shy than i am now, but i've somehow naturally overcome that through activities in my school's drama club. i'm both a cat and a dog person and would love to own one of each in the near future! i'm an animal lover in general, i'm especially obsessed with ducks, pandas and penguins for some reason 🙈 regarding my appearance, i'm pretty basic, i have brown eyes and brown wavy hair, i'm around 165 cm tall and i'm a bit on the chubbier side.
i'm currently getting my degree in foreign language teaching, i speak 3 languages fluently and i'm planning to start learning french in the near future. besides languages, i'm really interested in art and art history, astronomy, archaeology and psychology. if i wasn't a teacher, i'd probably be a speech therapist or i'd just live off of drawings/paintings i make or stuff i craft.
i change my hobbies almost every week, right now, i spend most of my time playing video games. i've really been into sims lately (i mostly build stuff because i find the gameplay really repetitive). as soon as i graduate, i'd like to start travelling more often, some of the countries i'd like to visit are italy, france, the uk, japan, switzerland, south korea and new zealand.
my ideal partner is someone who would enjoy spending a lot of their free time with me, someone who would not be afraid of physical affection because i love love LOVE to give and receive cuddles and hugs! i'd also like to have a partner who would respect me and my interests and would always support me in everything i do. an ideal date would either be a picnic with all of our favorite food or going out for hot drinks (hot choco or tea) and then later watching something at the cinema.
my bias is tae, he somehow caught my eye the moment i was introduced to bts, i love how he seems to have a really cold exterior but on the inside he's the cutest fluffball that exists! i don't really have a bias wrecker, or rather, i change my bias wrecker every week because i just love all of the boys and i have a different special connection with each and every one of them.
a no-no for me are yandere and hybrid AUs, everything else is ok!

it was an art event

But you did look gorgeous
So much so that Namjoon couldn't take his eyes of you... so that was good investment.
You however were engrossed in the paintings, one in particular you felt really connected to
Namjoon decides to approach you and comment on it.
You talk and talk and talk
The nights end up with you drunk on Namjoon's dimples and a message on your phone.
Your life goes to normal and the night seems like a fairytale dream
Except Joon sends you paintings he likes and music he likes and when he thinks the sky is pretty or if he wants to talk about his pokemon collection
It's cute until it isn't because you think you're falling for him and I don't blame you who wouldn't
Namjoon decides to go on a trip and hire you as his official translator
Its because he needs a translator he says and not because you said you dreamt of travelling
So basically you get paid to live your dream, to travel, to explore that too in luxury and to eat and laugh with your bestfriend and the boy you really really like.
The last day of the trip is in Paris and its cliche but its romantic (though with this man going to the convenience store would be romantic too) (next time he'll take you to Taj Mahal, 'it was called Mumtaz Mahal after the emperors wife but more importantly his lover')
Of course he intends to propose but he has lost the ring and you laugh because this is Namjoon.
Once you do agree to be his lover, he can't take his hands of you, he's always all over you
Infact it gets irritating when after coming home from the gym he hugs you and you have to take a bath
He also has a whole wall with your artwork only one work not done by you is put up it's the painting you liked and the room is decorated with your souvenirs and his pokemon collection and your photos
Every winter you both make ductan sonyeondan and every year he manages to break the mold.
In conclusion you have a person who not only supports your life but is glad because it reduces his guilt even if on occasion despite never admitting later he does get jealous
Now you have a person who is going to turn every part of your relationship into songs ... sometimes you wonder if he loves you more or the song writing content you provide him
But who cares sometimes you know love and sometimes you dont but as long as there are snacks with your tea you are willing to learn about it.

Winter is the Season of Sewing
I just realized my pun! "Sewing"... "Snowing"...
As the days get shorter and the temperature chills, something inside me yells out, "time to knit and sew and dress up all fluffy and cute!" I can only imagine something influenced me, and it may have been a particular mobile game...
In college, the sessions between classes granted me some free time, so I decided to check out a game who's ads kept popping up on my YouTube videos - Love Nikki.
The ads were not at all what the game actually turned out to be. In fact, the ads were quite shocking - I remember the main character with pink hair, Nikki, and another young lady with silver hair, later known in the actual story as Kimi, were fighting over a shared male love interest as well as other ads that made it appear there was a "dating-sim" element, which there was not. The game is absolutely adorable and pure compared to the ads! It's such a shame that the marketing studio used shock and strange situations to promote the game, but it did get me to try it out of morbid curiosity...
You play as Nikki, a pink-haired human girl who was sent to the magically world of Miraland where you battle through styling! You start the game through a styling battle tutorial with Queen Nanari, the one who brought Nikki and her cape-wearing talking cat, Momo, to this universe. The queen did not explain why she brought the duo to Miraland, only that they would understand in due time. Nikki meets several characters throughout her journey who guide her through the different cities and kingdoms. Each chapter has about a dozen or so stage missions for you to complete through styling battles against NPC opponents. At each stage, there were currency and clothing item drops, which you could use in future styling battles or collect and use to craft new pieces that were worth more styling points.
There were 10 main style categories clothing and accessories could be labeled under, each piece having only 1 or 2 styles: Gorgeous, Elegant, Sexy, Mature, Lively, Pure, Cute, Simple, Cool and Warm. Each stage required a certain number of points towards certain categories, and you would receive a rank from "F" to "S" depending on your success. There were also 5 buttons along the bottom of the screen during the battle for you to gain additional points or to debuff or sabotage the opponent, and they could do the same to you.
My favorite aspect of the game were the different locations and culturally influenced clothing. The Apple Federation was definitely based off of the United States of America. According to the Wiki page, Welton, the founder of the Apple Federation, fought against colonist rule, and the nation is home to a diversity of people as it is immigrant-friendly. I believe the name either comes from New York City, "The Big Apple," because Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty being the most iconic symbols of liberty, freedom, and refuge for immigrants, or it could come from the notion of George Washington having chopped his father's apple (or cherry) tree as a child and praised by his father for being honest about his misdeed - I can't remember where this came from; it was like a tale passed around in elementary school, but it was apparently true.
I could go on about each nation, but I'll quickly summarize their style and real-life inspiration/influence:
Apple Federation: simple and modern styles; North American / United States inspired
Lilith Kingdom: cute and fairytale-inspired styles; very much European, most notably Greece (Wintermount), Italy (Cicia), Austria (Hayden), and Denmark, Norway, or Sweden (Hela Vi)
Cloud Empire: gorgeous and elegant styles; divided into four regions as follows: Northern Cloud (with snowfall in the mountains that divide the Cloud Empire and the North Kingdom, populated by yaks and snow leopards, this sounds like Mongolia to the north of China), Southern Cloud (the wiki listed Silvery Embroidery as an example of the style, which is reminiscent of the Miao ethnic group in Southern China, known for their elaborate silver headpieces), Western Cloud (based on the wiki description of being a land of "dancers and fortunetellers", the game is stereotyping Romani people, especially with the mention of the region having "a history of bandits", and Eastern Cloud (where the capital lies, and the Imperial Palace appears to be based off the Forbidden City in Beijing)
North Kingdom: a militant and sexy style, particularly for women; assuming this is Russia given that it borders Cloud Empire to the south, and is a nation of snow and bloodshed from in-fighting. There is also a viking/Norse-inspired city, so it this kingdom encompasses the entire Arctic North.
Republic of Wasteland: "tribal and aboriginal style"; they've lumped together different tribes and ancient cultures that are polytheistic in this region- ancient Egyptian (Wind Sand and Pale Morrow), Central Asia (Windvale), and North American Natives (Pota), the latter of which makes no sense given it's obvious inspiration
Ruin Island: sci-fi, futuristic style; this has no particular geographical influence

This was a longer ramble than I was expecting! The point I'm trying to make is that this game, because I started playing it in the winter time, I now associate winter with styling and fashion. I've even made my own form for sewing projects!
My fiancé introduced me to Obsidian, a unique note-taking software that I am currently using to plan my sewing and styling journey! First I'm starting off with understanding what designs flatter me the most. I've gathered all my information from this person I've seen pop up on Pinterest during my research: Gabrielle Arruda. The diagrams are very informative and easy to read.
I have divided different articles of clothing and accessories into folders. Once I've got everything researched, I'll pop into the Nikki's Info Wiki and gather each piece that fits these categories.
For anything that may not be my style, I could always make it for someone else!
I am looking to make all of the clothing out of natural materials: wool, cotton, linen, etc., as I try to keep away from unnecessary plastics while designing a timeless wardrobe.
I'm excited to share this journey! My biggest wish is to have a fulfilling life where I can create, and this blog will be my journal.
