I saw a fic or two about this concept but I think it's just hilarious. Either Camilo or Dolores notices a certain city boy visiting his family in Enchanto for the summer paying special attention to Mirabel and her flirting right back. Cue all the older cousin/sibling hijinks to spy on Mirabel and the boy. We have

The command center for operations: Boyfriend? For Mirabel? No on our Watch😌 has the command center in Dolores room. All cousins/sibling shall meet there after dinner to update one another about the infor gathered that day.

Theory time!!!

So been seeing the trailers for Enchanto in passing. As an animation student I’m excited to see this when it’s out! It should be soon, I’m based in Australia so I’ll need to double check...

Anyways, I was scrolling through the comments of this 60 second music vid for the “Waiting on a Miracle” in Japanese, and a comment caught my eye.

So people have been theorising whether she gets a power or not, but along with this commenter I think she’s next in line to hold the candle and guard and protect the family! It seems the grandmother has no powers, being entirely connected to the house. The only reason they haven’t figured it out is cause the grandmother is still living and there was no physical or visual indication.

HOWEVER, I think that when Mirabel was opening the door, the magic did work, it just passed on the powers rather than making some grand room. The whole big bad of the film, is not a person again as it seems to be a thing now in Disney movies, but I think rather that the magic is fading because Mirabel’s feeling of self worth and outlook in life is no longer positive (since Antonio finally got his power in spite of her ‘having’ none).

The whole reason the magic and house is BROKEN is because Mirabel herself feels like she’s BROKEN and needs to be fixed.

The house now being connected to her, the house reflects how Mirabel feels. Additionally, it looks like Mirabel is the closest to the house as it seems she regularly talk to it and holds conversations. Out of everyone, she also seems like to be the only one doing something about the house since she cares about it a lot.

So I’m thinking at the end of this movie, it’s revealed that Mirabel needs to learn to love herself, that she’s not broken and in fact is a wonderful member of the family! Her family would also have to learn too as while some do care about her, Mirabel is left out of family photos and casted out because of her ‘defect’. They’ll understand that they should’ve been treating her right and nicely, power or no power.

The ending scene might be Mirabel finally being given the candle officially, and now that she holds the candle permanently, a room would be made for her, which reflects a normal room since Mirabel has learnt that she doesn’t need powers to make her special, it’s how she sees herself and treats others that make her special. That being herself despite what others expect is the really magical and special power she holds. And being connected to the house of course, just felt like a nice ending to finish on😄

So yeah that’s my theory, see you in a few weeks when I finally get to watch the movie and see what I got wrong or right.

I actually heard that there may be an enchanto series comin 👀 im not 100% sure but-

i did hear that one of the writers/directors would like for encanto to have a disney+ series someday!! i don’t think that means we’re for sure getting one, and after all it took tangled 7 years to get a series released, but it definitely makes me more hopeful that we will. there’s so many things i would love to see like more of what isabela and luisa and their relationships with mirabel are like now that they feel more free to be themselves, what the entire family’s hobbies are outside of things solely related to their gifts, bruno (re)connecting with everyone, development for dolores and mariano both individually and as a couple, more camilo and antonio content... there’s definitely a lot of potential with this family and their world and i feel like the movie itself is gonna stay popular enough that people would watch a series if we do get one.

onward, though, i am far less optimistic about simply because it came out at the start of the pandemic, had a lot of bad press with the whole “disney’s millionth first gay character” thing, and consequently bombed and less than 2 years later has a fandom of approximately 5 people lol. i would be so happy to see even just a short or two for it but maybe someday!! at least for now there’s an ongoing onward the fanmade series fic that i’ve been meaning to read for ages and am definitely gonna get around to soon now that i’m getting back into it.

It's like the past Bruno and Literally everyone else went through was brushed off for the sake of ending it and not actually addressing these issues deeper. Just a quick apology and boom everything is better.

I agree! While I ADORE the movie the ending really does feel rushed and I feel like they sorta did Bruno dirty ;/

They sing a whole song why they don't talk about him, his mother shunned him, he suddenly appears and BAM, the whole family welcomes him back just like that, it doesn't matter that he literally lived inside of the walls of the house, AND THAT SCENE WHEN MARIBEL FOUND THE DRAWN PLATE ON THE TABLE? I'M WEAK I WANT TO HUG HIM, THE POOR BABY 😭😭😭 I also wish we could have seen more of Camilo, he honestly really caught my eye!! I wanna know how his room looks like, I'm so curious! I also find myself humming his part of the "We don't talk about Bruno" song because it's just my favorite 😆

I still think that the movie is beyond solid and good, I love all of the musical numbers, Luisa, Antonio, Bruno and Camilo are my favorites. The ending is rushed as all Hell but I loved the movie wayyy too much to stay too mad. A sequel would be interesting but who knows!
