I always see Elriels say that they hope the rejection of Elain and Lucien’s mating bond is mutual. That Elain and Lucien will happily decide to “sever it” and both move on. But that’s not how it works, there’s no severing of the bond, it doesn’t just go away because they both want it to?

Can Fic writers stop tagging every single goddamn ship like this please! Or at least say it’s an Elriel/whoever endgame fic or something. Theres no way I am wasting time reading a fic if I don’t know who the endgame is….no way I am risking reading a 30 chapter fic thats starts off elriel or ends with a different ship. This goes for any ship/shipper/fandom, I doubt a Nessian wants to read a potential Eris/Nesta fic by accident(unless they’re into that i guess lol), or a elucien wants to read a Vassien fic, etc…
Tumblr media
I can’t be the only one who feels this way. That couldn’t possibly gain writers more followers.
Who the hell is the fic about? Unless its a poly fic theres only one endgame.
This drives me absolutely batshit up-the-wall crazy 🙄 🤬
Tumblr media
I bet there are fantastic Elriel fics i have skipped over because of this

Azriel, the "entitled incel" of the Bat Boys
So I started laughing my head off as soon as I typed the title for this post. Because it's honestly so, so ridiculous this is even an argument people are using against Elriel.
Let's take a quick trip down memory lane, because people are calling Azriel entitled because of the following excerpt:
Tumblr media
This man, is so desperately obsessed with Elain, that he is questioning his religion, their GOD (The Cauldron) on why the woman he loves was given to another. He is tortured over it, losing sleep thinking about it.
How does that scream entitlement? Is it because he says the "third sister was given to another"? Because Rhys assumes "You believe you deserve to be her mate?"
Azriel did not even consider the possibility of a future with Elain because she already has a mate. Not because he's only lusting after her, but because he is convinced that he will not get the woman he loves. He has such low self-esteem and image issues that he doesn't think himself worthy of even touching her skin, and you think he feels entitled to her?
Or is it the fact that you decided he just wants a mate? Nowhere in this bonus chapter does Azriel say he just wants a mate, btw, so not sure where that argument came from. Also, if Azriel just wanted a mate, why tf would he go for the only mated female in his proximity?
Wouldn't he, I dunno, latch onto any available single lady in Velaris over the mated and now forbidden Elain Archeron? I believe a relevant analogy is:
If I had a group of friends I hung out with, all consisting of married couples, basically, and I was the lone single friend. OF COURSE I WANT WHAT THEY HAVE AND OF COURSE I WANT TO BE MARRIED TOO? But....even if I wanted these things so desperately, my first choice for love would not be the married guy in my friend group, whose wife lives far away. Like, no. That's not who I'm going for first, or second, or ever, even.
So then why is Az only showing feelings for Elain? He's had sexual relationships before, why can't he just find someone else, why is he still obsessed with Elain?
Also, the incel thing is such a joke. Yes, he has romantic, sexual thoughts about Elain. And that somehow...makes him disgusting and toxic?
Are we just choosing to ignore Rhys's thoughts about Feyre? How these two mfs nearly risked their lives from a trauma-bargain because they were too horny to show enough self-restraint to not f*ck in the goddamn sky?? Those poor pedestrians of Velaris.
Are we just choosing to ignore Cassian's thoughts about Nesta? Like literally every other sentence from his POV was about her thin frame and massive tits, for ffs. He was absolutely chafing for her 99% of the day. But no one had a problem with that?
Cassian even stated he's jealous of Rhys, what Rhys has with Feyre, their bond. But we just decided to ignore that little tidbit too, huh?
And I know this entire argument is just performative. Because if Azriel had shown any even mildly romantic thoughts about another *ahem* character, that side would be screaming from the rooftops in joy. That's just a guess though, given how much they reacted from just platonic banter and something about sparky glow glow warmth in the bonus chapter. If you give a mouse a cookie, I guess.
Either way, I actually read the books, so Elriel is the only answer for me.
I mean, I thought it was obvious.

one thing and one thing only...if you are a person who thought about pliant bones/pelvis theory for elriel not happening but after that thought it was indeed problematic but still think that sarah wrote it for a reason....you are still the problem.
because it means you are reading the book and coming to that conclusion yourself not that author showed it to you. you are the problem.
nowhere in the book it says that because of pelvis shape characters cant be together. it is the opposite actually. nesta and feyre were mated to cass and rhys before their pelvis were changed.
nowhere in the book it says that having pliant bones would mean you can give birth to a winged baby. I'm not even gonna address how birth works or how it is about the shape not about the structure of bones. learn about anatomy ffs.
nowhere in the book it says that the baby would be 100% born with wings. so the chance is 50-50 and you are still thinking about "sarah wrote it for a reason"
so at the end of the day...the "theories" you came up with on your on delusion is not authors problem.
You are the problem.

Sometimes I get annoyed
"If elriels are convinced Elain is happy with the IC, and she has the twins as friends and is secretly in love with Azriel why would she need a book if she's living her happily ever after" - this coming from an elucien is laughable....
that's why I'm forever convinced that people who ship Elain and Lucien don't like her as much as those who ship her with Az. We've seen her show interest in only one of them this far and that’s what we’re following. Like why are you against her feelings....why are you against the friends she made?
1- no one said Elain is living her happily ever after...since you know these are romances and she's single.
2- just because she found her friends already and has feelings for Azriel because it was HINTED in the actual books. doesn't mean she doesn't need a book.
Elain is a lot more than who she will end up with. There are her powers for instance that still need exploring, everything about her seems to have happened off the page, so yes we need to know more about that. I've never seen an Elriel saying Elain is content with where she is in life. ACOSF literally tells us she's willing to help in any way she can because she is a part of the night court. Elriels saying they want Elain with Az and that they like her friends isn't an attack on Elain...her friends are spies ffs, how is this limiting and putting her in a box??? We’re not saying everything we’re saying is canon, but these are things that were shown in the text.
3- Elain still has the mating bond that she does NOT want, hanging over her head. so, a book of hers will deal with that too. And of course, whatever adventure sjm will throw her way. Because yes, sjm will. These are fantasy books. Elain WILL do something. Even if you can’t envision her doing so doesn’t mean you’re right.
Being with Lucien isn't the only thing that’s going to give her the life of adventure. Because somehow, they think ONLY Lucien will do that and Azriel will stifle her…. lol as if SJM will ever do that, I need you guys to be serious for one second. Sjm is obsessed with Az she isn’t about to write a Tamlin 2.0.
And somehow friendship only means the band of exile, I’m not going to say Elain will never meet them, or never be friendly with them. If sjm wanted that she could, nothing is wrong with having head canons. But we also can’t ignore the fact that Elain already has friends. Again, I'm not saying she will never have friends outside this circle but come on now. Mocking elriels for saying Elain already found her friends is just...not it, especially since canon text is telling us they're close. That her friends know her moods better than even Feyre does.
Why is this a fact that's hard to grasp, and is bothersome to people?

Imagine romantic Nessian. Soft, fluffy, supportive mates. Not power imbalances, rough sex, and being punished for being honest to your sister. I just want romance ffs.
I’m an Elucien shipper through-and-through and if she does go that route in the next book (which hopefully she will because Elriel has the romantic chemistry of milk and a corn tortilla), they better not fuck until Elain is properly courted. For both Elain and Lucien’s sake.
I know :( Imagine any of her couples actually having friendship as the basis of their relationship rather than lust!

I think Elriels are jealous of Rhys the same way they’re jealous of Feyre and Feysand. I read a lot of Elriel fics (because I do ship Elriel) and a lot of them have sentences like “Azriel was the one to fear, not Rhys” and just lines that give the vibe of Azriel being the real dom of the inner circle. A lot of them have scenes where Azriel yells at everyone for “how they treat him” the same way Elain fans headcanon her yelling at the inner circle as well. I think they want Azriel to be just like Rhys and have a lot of power and stuff. It’s so embarrassing. I can’t wait for all of them to be disappointed when Azriel is written blandly and all the focus is on Elain (not that I enjoy her stans either… Azriel stans are just another level of crazy. All this for a MAN???????)
Oh they definitely are😭. Elriels see Azriel in a totally different way than the rest of this fandom. They actually like that boring ass man and genuinely believe that he’s better than Rhys. I was reading an ff once and in it they literally said that Rhys was “trying to be like Azrie but never would be”.
I’ve even seen some of them theorize that he’s the prince of dawn or the prince of hel. Like be serious he’s someone who takes orders from Rhys. Azriel stans woobify him the same way Lucien stans do. It’s seen especially in the way they treat Mor. To them Azriel is some sensitive baby who’s being manipulated and taken advantage of while Mor is an evil jealous woman stringing him along for attention. Even though literally nothing Mor has done gives Azriel a hint that’s she’s interested and he’s just a dumbass.
They overestimate him all whole babying him in the exact same way Lucien fans do.

Day 2 - Your lips on my scars
Tumblr media
"Beautiful" Elain said to Azriel's hands after she kissed them. His hands had been touched by fire as a consequence of the tortures his brothers inflicted on him when he was a child. She has always known how he hated his multiple scars so it was her own personal goal to remind him daily how beautiful he was inside out. Just last night she spent part of it kissing every single one until Azriel took charge and worshiped her the same way until he made her scream his name in ecstasy. It was a game they often played, when one of them was feeling like they didn’t deserve love and devotion the other one would take hours reminding them of how much they were loved and that those days were long gone.
Both of them had their own traumas, they helped each other navigate the aftermath of the war, the losses, the things they had seen and the things they were forced to do. The pair had good days and bad days but as Mor told them they tried not to let the bad days win.
Elain and Azriel had grown closer after the war.  Elain rejected Lucien's bond after it was mutually decided that for both of them the bond was more a prison than a blessing. It wasn’t until a year later that Elain would take the first step with Azriel. Coincidentally by kissing a new scar he had gotten while training with her and the rest was history.
Today hit harder for Azriel as a few centuries ago he received the scars on his hands. Those are a constant reminder of all he has endured and overcome. He couldn’t even lay his eyes on them when he first came to the Illyrians camps, he would had Rhys mom wrap them so he wouldn’t be able to see them, with years he started to lose that fear, but people didn’t like to see them and some of them even refused his touch. So his hands became a weapon and he became the ruthless spy he is now.
Elain was the first female that described them as beautiful, he has always thought that it was in that moment he fell in love with her, not because she called them beautiful but because for the first time ever someone saw him, all of him, scars and all. He vowed at that moment that he would never let Elain feel like that again.
Elain had a plan for today, she would spend the whole day worshiping Azriel, until he would forget his own name. Azriel finally told her the story a few days ago, and this would be the first year since they have been together that they would experience this horrible anniversary. Elain wanted to start a new tradition to try to forget the events of the past and focus on the future. Azriel had done so much for her that now it was her turn to show him how much he is loved and how important he is to his whole family by kissing all his scars.
“It is you that’s beautiful Elain” responded Azriel while kissing Elain’s cheek tenderly.

Let's talk about the dreaded pliant bones argument in ACOTAR
First of all, I don't ever want to see this stupid argument anywhere, especially after HOFAS. Second of all, none of the Archeron sisters are Illyrian so they do not have Illyrian anatomy suitable for childbirth. And yet, we see Feysand and Nessian as mates. So it's not like SJM even cared about that herself.
Then ACOSF happens, and oh no, c-sections don't apparently seem to exist and it becomes a BIG DEAL™ that Nesta changed only her own body and Feyre's body to have Illyrian anatomy.
People have been latching onto this argument like Rose on the goddamn Titanic, anything to cling to their sinking ship.
Let's not forget that Elain & Nesta had their bodies changed already once before, against their will. Why the hell would Nesta change Elain's body without obtaining consent after that traumatic experience? That would be a gross violation of bodily autonomy.
And Nesta was shown how to change the bodies. Which could hint that she still knows how, should a similar situation arise again.
But none of that even matters! What matter is that it's 2024 and we are still saying a woman can't be with the man she loves because she can't give him biological children. That is the crux of the argument Gw*nriels always try to skip around and say without saying. Like "oh no!! She can't have his babies!! Ship sank. It's over. The End."
As if a woman should be reduced down to her ability to procreate. This is not the middle ages people! Wake up!
Also, not to mention, even if we use that disgusting logic - The only other female in this series that is mentioned to have Illyrian anatomy is Emerie. Are we shipping Azriel with Emerie now? Because she can FOR SURE have his babies, if that's all that matters. Who cares about her own desires and personality and sexual preferences if she can have illyrian kids??
Now let's consider what people have been latching onto:
Gwyn...is flexible and adapts to training moves quickly. That's why Nesta commented she had "pliant bones", that's IT. She is part nymph and "has different anatomy than high fae", sure, but is that anatomy in any way, Illyrian? Water nymphs don't have Illyrian leathery wings either so I don't understand why insisting Gwyn has "pliant bones" is in any way endgame ship material. Why would her half-water nymph heritage give her the anatomy to birth a full grown illyrian-winged baby??
And then there's the cowards that use this argument by hiding behind SJM herself by saying "Well, I hate it too, but SJM is *kinda* known for writing like this and her characters are all male-dominated, fae-territorial blah blah, she is *kinda* hinting at endgame because the womb thing–" NO. No.
Don't hide. Tell the room exactly what you are saying. Which is the exact same misogynistic spiel as above, where you try to use gross medieval logic to justify your mf fictional ship, but you hide your faces when you say it. Because you know it's wrong, but you're still not above using that as "evidence" in your ship's favor.
I've even said before, I don't care what SJM says. If I don't like a misogynistic take, I am not using that as evidence in any capacity for any reason.
I'm not even being biased by my preferred ship. I genuinely just want people to stop using this argument because it's hurtful to women as a whole. Ship wars are fine, but ffs, when did we get to the point where we are pitting two women against each other based on whose uterus is more suitable??
And before you even say "I just have a problem because I ship Elriel" No. No.
It's about these kinds of cheap arguments in general. I have also never been one to go off saying how Gwyn can't be a valid love interest because her past SA trauma - That argument is also archaic and hurtful. I've never once used it. I don't like seeing it.
Can we just - Not do it? The only reason such arguments have gained traction is because they're constantly echoed by the toxic sides of the fandom online. It's gross and I don't want to be a part of a group that condones that.
Ship who you want, but let's just be respectful about it. We should not have to resort to cheap arguments like the above.

It’s kinda weird to me that Gwyn is depicted with a younger attitude, has her age of 28 made into somewhat of a “thing” in the book to show she’s young, has Cassian calling her a girl because at 28 she is just a girl to him… and then in a live someone asked if Gwyn was an adult or child due to how fae mature, and sjm got all shocked and weirded out and said “no Gwyn is a fully formed adult by their standards” like ??? So my question is do you read her as an adult? I didn’t. Clearly the author wasn’t thinking about what her word choices would convey
The person who asked that question hates elriels so she straight up butchered that question. We know gwyn is not a child child. The question was supposed to be “is gwyn considered young in fae standarts and age slower? And how that plays out in acotar world?” But we didn’t got that good question instead she went and asked “Is gwyn a child?” So it was the wrong question which in return got as the wrong answer.
Cassian sees her as “just a girl” and she is described as “coltish”. And she acted like a teenager to me. And there is this quote from acotar:
Tumblr media
Gwyn is 3/4 high fae. 😀 and high fae age slower and they don’t reach adulthood until seventy-five. Tarquin—a high lord—considered young ffs.
So...
is gwyn a child? No
is she considered young in fae standarts and ages slower? Yes.
That’s all.
