Imagine Buck and Eddie going to Walmart. Buck forgets his phone in the car but that doesn’t matter, they’re together. Buck is trying so hard to deflect any positive emotion in this situation because he still feels immense guilt for "losing" Chris. Even though it all worked out in the end, he hasn't forgiven himself for it and doesn't think he ever will.

Then we have Eddie. The way Eddie follows Buck's eyes no matter how hard he tries to avert his gaze. He knows exactly what Buck is doing and he will NOT let him deflect this. He doesn't stop until their eyes meet. He needs Buck to know that's it's okay and that it's not his fault. He's following Buck's movements and forcing him to lock eyes with him.

Eddie is doing everything in his power to let Buck know that Chris is okay. He is okay. They are okay.

Eddie loves Buck to his core. And he shows it by always reassuring and comforting Buck when he doubts himself or thinks negatively. Eddie is Buck’s person through & through 🥹

the sheer amount of reassurance that eddie offered buck this ep had me reeling. like. every single offhanded self-deprecating comment that buck made in this ep, lighthearted and playful as they were, was immediately folllowed by eddie refuting it in the softest, gentlest way. buck announced he broke up with natalia and eddie, who specifically warned him that it wasn't a good idea to date someone they met on a call, who was potentially very hurt by buck claiming that natalia 'sees him,' and who was clearly not in favor of the relationship, said none of it. instead, without even missing a beat, he starts his reply off with to be fair. to be fair to buck, in case buck isn't being fair to himself.

when eddie brings up not wanting chris to go down a path of being reckless with dating, and buck assumes that eddie doesn't want chris to end up like him, eddie shuts that down instantly by reminding him that buck didn't actually end up the way he perceives himself. i love the way eddie so clearly acknowledges buck's idea of who buck once was while giving him that reassurance that he was never just that person. he's not buck 1.0, he's not buck 2.0, he's not buck 3.0, he's just buck, and eddie loves him the way he is.

i just — eddie is always offering buck grace and always so in tune with the way that buck's mind works, giving him the space to make the decisions he needs to, regardless of whether eddie agrees with them, all while still being in his corner and waiting for him to come to his senses in his own time, and eventually come home. to come back to where he belongs, because eddie missed him and never, ever wants to be without him again.

I personally think it is categorically hilarious that Buck is seemingly gonna rock up to his sisters wedding with a boyfriend having not told his parents of this development in his life.

It’s the way that when Buck told Eddie that he and Natalia broke up, Eddie said, “welcome back to the world of the living, Buck; you were missed.” It’s the way that at the graveyard, Eddie said, “to be honest, you haven’t been the same since [the lightning strike] happened… but how could you be?” It’s the way that, to Eddie, Buck died for 3 minutes and 17 seconds, but he never came back to life. It’s the way that when Buck said he broke up with Natalia because all she wanted to talk about was death, Eddie saw the light in Buck that he hadn’t seen since before he was struck. It’s the way he missed the Buck he was before he died, but didn’t push him. The way he said, “you don’t have to be anything for anybody,” when Buck said he felt that he had to try to be the “same old” guy he was before the lightning. The way that even though Eddie did miss the old Buck, and he did want to be there for him, he gave him the space he needed to heal, even if it meant healing with Natalia. It’s the way that, when Buck told him that he broke up with Natalia, he raised an eyebrow and immediately welcomed him back. In that moment, Buck was alive again and Eddie had him back. It's the way he loved Buck back to life. It’s the way Eddie loves him to his core.

no but imagine being eddie diaz and you get shot on the street and as you're bleeding out, you have your OH realization about how he's in love with your best friend. and its too late and he's dying and buck is asking him to hang on and its all so fast and chaotic and intense.

AND THEN when he finally finally can come home, there's a welcome back party with his family and the girl he doesn't really like anymore and..... taylor fucking kelly.
