I have a question. You know how there's a Mama Bear AU in Ecanto where Abuela Alma was a good mom. Is there a fic like that for Endeavor in MHA?

Camilo: I'm not going to tell you, I'm not a snitch
Abuela: Right, let's try something else then. Tag a friend you recently committed a crime with

Encanto rant
Saw a post that complained that the family didn't verbally apologize to Mirabel and like man...
Not everything needs to be a sorry conga line like
Everyone heard the argument
They all heard Mirabel's perspective
The house broke
They lost everything
The regret and understanding is implicit, they were all forced to face casita and her cracks. It took an entire night and half a day to find Mirabel, you don't think Pepa wouldn't have rambled about her thoughts? "But they were calm when Mirabel came back!" Yeah no shit that's what they're used to doing.
There's implicit symbolism that the family did apologize and did address their actions while rebuilding casita, hence, you know, the new imperfect foundation, they ain't there yet and there's a lot to go but they started
What would to alternative be? Everyone says I'm sorry and they hug? So that you complain that it was rushed? Or that it was a blanket statement?
Sometimes the implications is more solid than explicit showing, especially in a movie, and the fact they even showed it symbolically is more than the usual
And besides, I doubt they understand the full extent of each of their actions. Isabela, for example, came off as an entitled golden kid with a superiority complex and genuinely believed she was doing the best possible thing in any situation. Her 'advice' at the start was rude as heck and her tone didn't help but she was truly under the impression that Mirabel wasn't being helpful (tbf aside from bringing in misc supplies and laying down the doilies and candles, what else did she do really in that specific moment? All the other 'important' tasks were delegated) This isn't to say she didn't have a mean streak in her somewhere and as it turns out that's due to the pressure she was under but that's not something you unpack introspectively within a day
Alma had to lose casita and everything to even open the floodgates of the full extent of her actions and she has atleast 40ish years of trauma/stress/unhealthy expectations to sort through nevermind thinking about she may have passed that down to her kids and grankids and look that's also not something to start and finish overnight
Luisa acknowledged pretty early on that she overdoes it and STILL kept overworking herself during the rest of the movie that she had to be physically thrown into a relaxing position and she had atleast a few in movie days to unpack her shit (but didn't)
MY POINT IS
Yes there's no explicit apology conga line for US the audience to see and experience but what we do get is a bunch of people finally facing the truth that everything isn't okay and that they have (unintentionally) done some harmful things and the implication that they have chosen to come together as a family and work on it and address it
Home Sweet Home, I like the new foundation
It isn't perfect
Neither are we
That's true

80% of the conflicts in Encanto are caused by how there's like one braincell in the Madrigal household, and it was being passed around between Maribel, Dolores, and Antonio.

"YOU SAY TRAUMA DOESN'T EXCUSE PEOPLE'S ACTIONS AND THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T LIKE ABUELA BUT THEN YOU SAY YOU DON'T HATE ISABELA YOU HYPOCRITE" The reason I don't hate Isabela is because she and Mirabel act the way normal sisters/siblings do. You can see that even though they have a sibling "rivalry" they still care about each other. Im in a big family and I can assure you this is how a lot of us act but we still care about each other.

Okay so the Ecanto enjoyers (fandom?) likes to talk about lesbian Isabela, bi Mirabel and non-binary Camilo. I love this about us but here me out.
Trans Bruno.聽
I love short king representation from our stinky rat man but like what if Bruno always knew there was something wrong with the body he had. He didn鈥檛 like to wear dresses like his sisters, much to Alma鈥檚 dismay. Bruno choosing his new name but not being brave enough to tell his mama or his sisters.
and then on the day they got their powers the magic just went ah yes, you who has always seen your future self (as someone different) I will give you the gift of seeing everyone elses future. And then his body is changed as well (not by much but y鈥檏now the important stuff is changed)聽by the magic, and as his door finishes constructing itself the name at the top is Bruno.聽
Alma being confused but also believing so hard in the magic and the fact that the magic does what is best for the family. Julietta being very accepting of her baby brother and Pepa being accepting but also being that kid that asks all the questions with no shame X3聽
Just trans Bruno. I love him with all my heart. Also with this headcannon also having Bruno be one of the reasons why no one was judging of Camilo鈥檚 identity when they came out. Also speaking of Camilo, them having masc/neutral days (their usual look) and then fem days where the only thing different is that they use their powers to change their voice and features to be more fem but it鈥檚 still just Camilo and not a random fem person they saw.

TIO BRUNO HEADCANONS BY GRANKID LETS GOOOOO
I've made a few posts already, for headcanons involving:
Isabela/Dolores
Luisa
And now for Camilo!
Tumblr media
Bruno has the hardest time getting to know Camilo when he rejoins the family. In part because he was the second youngest when Bruno left, and by that point, people were terrified of him. Camilo hardly remembered his tio at all aside from his general appearance. That, and rumors told by his family. I like to think he remembered the rats, though. I headcanon that he is very afraid of rats, even during and after Ecanto, and that's why it was what he chose to mention in WDTAB
I imagine the rats would also cause Camilo to avoid Tio Bruno at first, until maybe something happens that rings the "I need an adult" alarms and Bruno is the only person home who fits that description.聽
For example: I see Camilo as wanting to be very grown-up and responsible, wanting to handle things on his own and maybe emulate his Papa a bit. Camilo is a top-teir Mama's boy, and he is constantly seeing this calming, grounding energy from Felix directed to Pepa. So, I feel like Camilo would have trouble asking for help in general until one of very few things happens; Tonito getting hurt, la casa being in any sort of trouble (fire/flood/etc), or even one of his hermanito's animal buddies getting hurt.
At which point, Camilo would have to go to his tio. I imagine Bruno would be an absolute nervous wreck, until he saw his sobrino/s panicking. I might be projecting, but since Bruno is so protective of la familia, I can see him being the type of person who's own anxiety shuts off completely when presented with a crisis in which he has to be the solution.
I see Bruno being quick to console Camilo, asking him to take deep breaths before explaining the problem. If it's an injury, he goes straight for the first-aid, whether it be for one of his sobrinos or a critter. He explains to them both the whole time that it's gonna be just fine, and Tia Julieta will be home an hour before sundown with plenty of snacks for everyone. Bruno puts on a show or plays some music to distract them in the meantime.聽
If it was an accident of some kind leading to property damage, Hernando and Jorge come in clutch for Camilo and they both lie through their teeth about why the wall is a few shades lighter than it was when Alma left the house. Bruno makes sure to reprimand/use it as a teaching moment, but he cuts the kid a good amount of slack for how bad it could've been. Cool uncle status.
After this point, Camilo starts warming up to his tio a bit more, hanging out with him and the other kids.
Camilo helps Tio Bruno write his telenovellas de ratas. The two of them spend hours making sets and directing the rats. At first, it鈥檚 just to help Camilo get over his fear of rats, but soon it becomes more about Bruno wanting to give Camilo an outlet to be creative, maybe as a way of dealing with a gift that is just garunteed to cause identity issues.
I believe Camilo might feel better going to his tio Bruno about things like dissociating or anxiety or panic attacks. He sees a different sort of male role model in Bruno, a bit less overtly caring and doting than his tio Agustin, but more softspoken than his Papa. Like I said, Felix is this rock for his immediate family, and Camilo looks up to his father for that. I could see the poor kid not wanting to show this sort of "weakness" to his dad, or worse yet, burden his frazzled mami with these feelings.
Bruno never ever asks Camilo to shapeshift if he can possibly help it. He wants to make sure the poor kid knows that isn鈥檛 all he鈥檚 good for.

(Ecanto Pantheon) Okay, I'm actually curious, but what would the Madrigald gets called upon for? (I know you mentioned Alma and Mirabel are called upon for the protection of a home & Mirabel for when you feel hopeless about your place in the world)
Julieta is called upon to avoid any accidents when you're cooking. Not a cut, not a burn, not a stinge happens under her watchful eyes. People say it's because of Augustin's cluminess that she keeps such a close eye.
Pepa is called for weather, obviously. But invoking Felix's name is to have her help you deal with your emotions in a healthy, harmless way.
Bruno repels bad luck. Some people point out that he more likely brings misfortune but others don't care.
Isabela started out as a protector of beauty and flowers and such. Apparently, she protects what is beautiful and makes it better. But after 'What Else Can I Do?' she became the person you called upon when you aren't sure of who you are. Some even invoke her name to break off marriages they don't want.
Luisa was first called upon for strength, for an added bonus when you are working hard. But then things changed and she became more of a person you called upon when you've been working hard and need a rest.
Dolores is invoked to help you to be aware of everything, like how she hears everything. But some people call upon her for help with love. It's mostly people dealing with unrequited love, hoping that person looks at them, or they find someone new.
Camilo is a trickster. That's it.
Antonio is who you call upon for help with animals. People say that if you make a jaguar plushie, like the one he has, and place it looking out, no wild animals will come to harm you. In fact, if you "feed" it, animals will be your friend.

Just watched ecanto and Disney dysfunctional Indian family with magic and generational trauma when? (Also mirabel and Bruno my beloveds)
um i guess never cause like we've been waiting forever and all we've gotten is Sanjay's Superteam (which was a short btw)
BUT YES ENCANTO IT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD FJDKSJDKSJKKAK
AND LIKE A SMALL PART OF ME LIKES ABUELA ALMA CAUSE SHE WAS A REALLY STRONG WOMAN WHO BUILT A WHOLE TOWN AFTER SHE HAD TO FLEE FROM HER HOMELAND AND HER HUSBAND WAS KILLED IN FRONT OF HER, ALL WHILE TAKING CARE OF TRIPLETS, ALONE.
i mean yes it doesn't excuse the fact that she constantly belittled and mocked and ridiculed and insulted her own family but still

in regards to Ecanto, i see it as Disney doing for mothers what it did for fathers back in 2000 with Lilo & Stich. And i seriously don't get ppl who want to paint Abuela as 'abusive'. Like, she obviosuly thinks that what she's doing is for the best interest of the family's future in a genuine way. But what is the best for someone in your eyes is not always what they need and/or want. And that was were she lost her way.
I agree with you 100%.
Also, I feel like there's also some ageism issues involved with the Alma backlash... but then again, I wouldn't be surprised; Disney often paints older women in an antagonic light to contrast with the youthful heroines. There are some nice old ladies in some of their movies, sure; but they tend to vilify them most of the time.
