1920s Mellow Musician and Dreams Guide
Tumblr media
Just a sketch
I love fashion history so much and 1920s is one of my favorite fashion eras. Please know that I am not an expert in this field. I'm just interested in it. Though, I try my best to make sure there's historical accuracy to the best of my abilities
Dreams Guide is wearing the fashion of 1920s flapper girls (gave her a faux fur boa - a liberty I've taken) and Mellow Musician is just being the chill dude he is.

It's almost 3 in the afternoon, so I'm pretty sure enough people have seen the fireworks event, so here are some pictures I took from it. Of course, under a cut, so I don't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it!
There will be some rambles at the end.

I still have a bunch more pics so if people ask for it I will probably add onto this post.

Dress up
The Performance guide invites both the Dreams guide and her child backstage, to try on some of the costumes from that night's performance.
Word count 2232, no warnings apply, just pure slice of life and Dreams Guide/Performance Guide fluff sbjsbssn
Another successful performance! Masterfully written and performed, if the guide did say so themself. Though, perhaps their own enthusiastic performance tonight was less to do with his love of the art, and slightly more to do with the audience. One particular member of the audience, to be specific. He'd invited her specially himself, and hadn't been sure if she'd actually arrive... But once he saw her in the crowd, he'd taken to his role with astounding vigor. He'd surprised even himself with the sudden drive to impress.
Perhaps he ought to have fallen in love sooner, if it made his performance that much more inspiring?
He emerged from backstage into the cool evening air, taking a deep breath, stomach fluttering. The crowd was dissipating by now, with how long he'd taken to steel himself backstage and come out to talk to the other guide... He was delighted to find that she hadn't yet left, and was still seated, with her child talking excitedly to her by her side. It seemed they'd both enjoyed themselves. She looked up and waved him over with a smile and, maybe too eagerly, he hurried over.
She stood as he approached, and her child followed suit- though she leaned in against her mothers side, with an arm gently around her shoulders. That was right; he hadn't actually spoken with her child before. He hoped the performance left a good impression on her...
"Good evening, ladies." He bowed slightly, stooping to gently take the guides free hand as she offered it to him and pressed a kiss to her knuckles in greeting, minding his mask.
She huffed out a soft, somewhat flustered chuckle as he let go of her hand. "The same to you." She gave the child leaning into her side a gentle squeeze around the shoulders. "This one thought you were amazing up there."
"Ah, did you now? I'm glad to hear it." He knelt slightly to her height, smiling.
The child flustered slightly, and held her hand out, copying her mother. He chuckled, and ruffled her hair instead, earnings a soft laugh from her mother and a little, slightly indignant sqeak from the kid.
"That's a greeting between grown ups, wee one. Perhaps when you're a bit older." He leant on his knees and stood, pushing off of them. "Besides, you're a very convenient height for that, instead."
The child pouted up at him. "You're taller than mama too, though!"
"Yes, but not by so much." He couldn't help but laugh when her mother also ruffled her hair, proving his point.
"My, she really is." She laughed behind her hand. "She's also just such a perfect size to hold at this age~. And she's such a cuddle bug at home, so it's very convenient-"
"Mamaaa, you're embarrassing me!"
Goodness, that was cute. The two guides turned to one another while she was distracted by attempting to retie and smooth down her ruffled hair.
"And how about you, my dear? Did you enjoy the performance?" They asked.
"Oh, yes! You were incredible. I didn't know you had such a nice singing voice, you know." She smiled. "It was lovely."
He was thankful for his mask to cover the blush on his face from the compliment. Strange, how he could usually take a compliment easily- but from her, he flustered just terribly. He wondered if his ears were going red.
"Aha, well..." he coughed lightly into his hand. "Thank you. I'm flattered."
"By the way, the costumes were amazing too!" She beamed. "This one was going on about how she wanted to dress up like your dancer- she really loved that dress."
"Ah, is that so?" This might be a convenient way to get a little time together... He was sure their fellow performers would probably have changed out of their costumes by now. "I don't suppose she'd like to come backstage and try it on now, would she?"
"Wait, could I?" The child perked up at the suggestion from where she'd previously been sulking a little. "Could I really?"
"Why of course! So long as your mother approves..."
"Mama, please?" The performance guide watched as the kid all but flung herself at her mom in a hug. "Please?"
"Well... As long as you behave back there, ok dear?" The other guide caved quite quickly, much to her child's delight.
"Yeah, I promise!"
"In that case, if you two would follow me- perhaps you'd like to play dress up with the dancer, in fact? I don't think they're much older than you... I think you'd get along quite well."
"Ooh, if it's ok with them..." Oh, this kid was practically vibrating with excitement. "Then yes!"
He led them indoors, motioning them inside with a broad sweep of his arm- he immediately spotted the dancer, sitting on one of the beams crossing the higher up section. He smiled up at them, and waved them down. They hopped off and dropped down next to them gracefully, without even a slight stumble.
"Director?" They asked. "Um, can I help?"
"Indeed! This young lady here-" He patted the girl on the shoulder with a smile. "Was admiring your costume. Would you play dress up with her for a little while?"
"Oh, of course! It was such a nice dress, too." They said brightly.
The guide remembered how they'd admired it when it was first shown to them- and how happy they'd been to find it was their costume. They'd been so ecstatic to be able to wear it... He was sure the two of them would have fun. The Dancer worked hard... It was about time they took the time to play with someone their own age for a while.
The two children quickly disappeared backstage, giggling as they went- they only hoped they wouldn't get up to too much mischief. However, more pressingly, they were now alone with the other guide.
"Seems they'll be occupied for some time. I..." He wanted to suggest they have a quiet drink together, or maybe s walk, but the flirt died in his throat. Goodness, maybe he was a little nervous. "...don't suppose you'd like to look through backstage as well? You're never too old to play dress up a bit, now."
"Oh, me? Well..." She hemmed and hawwed a few moments. In those moments he cursed himself for not saying what he'd intended to. "It wouldn't hurt to look! Your costumes are lovely, after all..."
"Well, our stagehand is mostly to thank for the costumes- they're very skilled." He nodded, gently taking her hand to lead her backstage. "We all chip in of course, but their work in particular is immaculate."
"Did they make your costume from tonight, by any chance? You looked wonderful!"
Of course, she was talking about the costume, not him per se, but he still felt a terrific blush come to his face. He let out a soft laugh to mask his sudden nervousness. It was quite cramped backstage, and she was awfully close.
"Ahem- yes! They spent quite a while on it. It's really some wonderful work..."
They trailed off a little, and thankfully that was the point the other guide began to carefully look through the costumes on the various rails and pegs along the walls; quiet, but eyes sparkling with a kind of childish wonder. A slightly more subdued kind than what was echoing down the hall from the two kids playing, but there nonetheless as she turned over masks and costumes in her hands and admired the detail. She admired the items backstage, and he admired her in turn; a pleasant little system.
He eventually had to turn away to calm down a little. He was a people person, but his stomach was full of butterflies even though they were just quietly exploring backstage... Goodness, how could she fluster him so much by just being there? He turned to look back as she let out a soft 'ooh' of admiration at something in particular, looking around to see a red and gold cape draped over her arm.
"Did this one catch your eye?" They inquired as she turned it over in her hands.
"Oh, yes. I was just thinking, it looks similar to our heirloom cape." She smiled wistfully. "I've actually only worn it once. I'm saving it for the little one, now."
"I see... Would you like to try that one on? I'm sure you'd look lovely. In fact, there are a few things that might look good with it here."
"Ah, I'd love to!"
The performance guide turned to look through a few items just down the hall- retrieving a few he thought would match well. Asking her to completely change outfit would be too much, but just a few additions wouldn't hurt... She giggled slightly as he took the cape and leaned in to drape it around her shoulders, then fastening a fluffy collar he'd obtained from the forest around her neck, filling the collar area of the cape in nicely.
"There... Quite cozy, isn't it?"
"It is- So soft, too..." She leaned her cheek against the fluff of the collar.
"It really is. And just a finishing touch here..."
He leaned in to gently slide a shining, golden hairpin into place, just above her ear. He was suddenly struck by the proximity, almost cupping her face, and he felt his breath catch in his throat as he froze there.
"How... does it look?"
Was he imagining the flush on her face, too? And the bashful look was just simply adorable. His heart really couldn't take this... He swallowed, cupping her face gently.
"You look wonderful."
"Ah, really?"
"Indeed. Beautiful, even."
They were still very close. If he wanted to he could tilt his head, and lean in closer- would she mind? Would she stop him, or allow him to-
"Mama! Oh my gosh, you look amazing!"
They all but leapt apart as her chilf reappeared, the guide gasping slightly as he came back to his senses, pressing a hand over his mouth. He really needed to be more careful-
If she hadn't appeared just then, he might have really...
He shook his head, returning his attention to the pair- the other guide had knelt carefully to her child's level to hug her, and let her look closer at the delicate pin in her hair.
"Nice to see you again, wee one." He smiled. "Did you have fun?"
She beamed. "Yes! The dancer had to go, though- someone was calling for them."
"Aha, I see. Well, I'm glad you had fun, dear. You're welcome to come and play here any time."
He may have said that partially because that meant the other guide might come by as well, but it was mostly a genuine gesture. He was sure the dancer had fun, too.
"Ah, speaking of time- it must be getting quite late." The guide stood, and he was slightly sad to see her carefully removing the costume items and placing them aside. If they didn't need them at the theatre, he'd be tempted to simply let her keep them. She turned to her child. "You must be getting tired too, aren't you?"
The child laughed quietly. "Just a little..."
"Well, it can't be helped then. Shall I walk you back?"
"If you would, I'd be happy."
"Alright then- let's be off." He nodded.
As they stepped outside, they realised that it was indeed getting quite late- the last dregs of sunlight were rapidly fading away in the last little smudges of red and orange, leaving the dark sky behind. They'd certainly lost track of time...
And stayed up well past the child's bedtime, it seemed. It wasn't long before she'd been scooped, sleepy, into her mothers arms, gently nodding off against her shoulder. They were a sweet picture like that- it tugged on the performance guides heartstrings to see it. He lamented the walk to the inn not being a little longer for him to really appreciate it, but alas, soon enough they were at the door.
"Thank you for tonight, really." She smiled, looking down at the child gathered up in her arms. "I know she had a wonderful time. And I did, too."
"I'm glad to hear it. You're both welcome any time- you know that. I'm always pleased to see you... Please, have a good night."
He wanted to kiss her hand to say goodnight- maybe hug her even, if she'd allow it, but her hands were quite full. So he settled with a bow; but then as he raised his head from doing so, he was met with a short, chaste kiss on the cheek. He was thanking the elders for his mask once again as he felt the heat rush to his face- subtly, he pinched himself.
"To you as well." She smiled warmly, turning to take herself and her child inside. "Goodnight- take care."
The door shut, leaving him reeling slightly. That had been a kiss. Perhaps not so bold of one as he had considered going for backstage, but a kiss nonetheless no matter how innocent it was. He couldn't just stand there and gape, no- so he hastened to get back to the theatre, and occupy his hands with something or other, before he shut down completely.
Perhaps he would follow his heart and lean in that little bit closer, next time. Maybe.

“They finally made this theme more blatant-" Why does it need to be blatant. What's wrong with subtlety? Concepts can be underused but subtlety is not neglect.
Blaring all your concepts and themes is not good writing. It's so disruptive to a story's flow when the characters look off the screen to be like "See? This is the concept. The idea. The theme."
If you can feel the hand of the author becoming too heavy that's bad.
For example: I see people saying Azula's abuse in ATLA is more blatant in the live action and it's good because "it's being discussed more". It already was discussed at length. The show made it clear she was a victim at every turn, every behavior, every reaction, it came from a place of trauma. It was made clear that she was scared of ending up like Zuko because Zuko was an example of what would happen to her if she failed. When she says she's better than Zuko it wasn't just because she was raised to think hersef superior to him but because Zuko failed and failures get mutilated and exiled, failures are abandoned. In that final Agni Kai the music is morose and somber because this isnt some epic battle its a fucking tragedy, the burning out of "Ozai's brightest light" and Azula finally succumbing to her terror and trauma she was repressing now that her worst fears are realized. How can you see a fourteen year old girl chained to a sewer grate wailing and writhing and breathing fire desperately as unsympathetic? Even Katara and Zuko are horrified as to what has become of her.
The writers weren't looking us in the eye and saying "See? She's a victim too" when they wrote this, they weaved it in. They weaved it into her obsesison with symmetry, her extreme perfectionism, the way she talks about Ozai, the ways she calls herself a monster, her isolation from those with healthy home lives, all the ways she held herself together and ultimately all the cracks and seams that she shattered down when she fell apart. It did not need to be blatant to be clear.

AAA I just realized that I’ve never posted some of my sketches from long ago here- and now I’m a bit too ashamed to show them because og how old and low quality they are, but I need to post them so that my newer sketches will make more sense- Anyway-  I found some really old sketches that I've never posted here of my Prophecy/Dreams/Mentor fankid, Revital, because I’m cringe but free Her name, Revi-Tal, is a name made out of two Hebrew words. the first one doesn't have a word in English, but it basically means when you don't feel thirsty anymore, like the feeling you get after you felt thirsty but then drink. the second word means "dew". This name is a reference to the goddess Kebechet, which in ancient Egyptian mythology, was the one to bring water to souls who were waiting for their judgment in the afterlife (which was also what inspired the little comic), so Kebechet was generally associated with water and was depicted as a celestial snake (hence the snake mask too). The reason I chose Kebechet to base Revi Tal on was that in the mythology, Kebechet is the daughter of the god Anubis, on whom Prophecy's guide mask is based, so I thought it would be symbolic. She is a very timid and anxious kid, preferring to stay out of social situations and keep to herself. But once you get to know her she is incredibly sweet and caring, even though a bit weird due to her prophecy powers and snake-like behavior. Stick around for newer sketches of her that I will post soon!
