drayden is not a strict grandpa

he told hassel about drayton having to repeat a year of school because it was something that was weighing on both drayton and drayden, not because he was strict about it or disappointed in drayton.

its weighing on drayden because hes worried about his grandson being bullied for being a repeater, as well as how frustrating it would be to have to repeat classes you already took while your peers move on. i think its also possible drayden had to repeat a year himself when he was in high school so he's being reminded of that & imagining the differences of that experience between then and now.

i think the whole strict grandpa thing seems to come from his appearance for the most part, i know hes depicted as kind of serious in the anime and manga, but there are plenty of moments he has where he's showing his true soft side, and i think that's his real true side. the whole rugged strict thing is similar to saguaro's facade in SV academy storyline where he's pretending to like spicy food because the students think he does and think that's cool and he doesnt want to let them down. but it's a slightly larger scale with drayden being mayor of a whole town, he has more people holding that image of him and he's worried about the consequences if he shows "weakness" so he's going to present as strict and stoic and strong to those he doesn't know. those he's close to he really cares for and would never make them feel like he's disappointed in them or anything like that.

this is mostly all headcanon influenced by what i've seen of drayden primarily in BW2 dialogue and a manga page as well as his anime episodes. felt the need to write this post because it makes me personally uncomfortable reading text on a screen calling one of my faves strict when that's one of my least favorite qualities in people esp authority figures / parental figures so i wanted to say something about how i dont see him that way at all.

Paarthurnax (or “the Old One” according to other dov) is the leader of the Greybeards and the first friendly dragon that the Last Dragonborn comes across in the Main Questline. He assists the Last Dragonborn throughout the game and is also available to help them Meditate on the Words of Power (Fus, Feim, and Yol) which can give some bonus effects to certain Shouts when the Last Dragonborn uses them. 

Biography

During the Merethic Era, Paarthurnax was a lieutenant under Alduin who committed and witnessed many atrocities against “mankind” (specifically Nords) but ultimately defected, and alongside mortals, he betrayed Alduin and taught men how to use the Thu’um. Mankind prevailed and won the Dragon War, with Paarthurnaxx retiring to the Throat of the World to continue battling his lust for power. He also became a follower of the Way of the Voice during this time, a pacifist creed created by Jurgen Windcaller that stated Thu'um should be used for worship rather than the glory of battle. Paarthurnax l became the Greybeard’s grandmaster but would continue to live in isolation at the peak of the mountain. 

During the First Era, Paarthurnax would continue to live in isolation but did make visits to Numinex who was trapped in Dragonsreach.

During the Fourth Era, Paarthurnax would assist the Last Dragonborn in defeating Alduin during the Dragon Crisis, helping them with tasks such as finding and learning the Dragonrend Shout and helping them reach Sovngarde to ultimately defeat Alduin. At one point in the Main Questline, the Blades (Delphine and Esbern) will ask the Last Dragonborn to slay Paarthurnax due to the atrocities committed during the Dragon War that he was complicit in. If the player chooses to not kill him, then he will be present for the Epilogue of the game. He will comment on his desire to teach the Way of the Voice to his brethren and can then be found perched on the Throat of the World’s Word Wall and will continue helping the Last Dragonborn Meditate on Shouts. To continue with the Blade Questline in Skyrim, the Last Dragonborn must kill Paarthurnax.

Dragon giving Luffy to Garp with the assumption that he's going to take care of him until he's ready to meet his son (because it's dangerous to have a child while he starts a fucking revolution, thank you very much) and then Garp just- Leaving Luffy on a village where he spends 24/7 alone waiting for the pirate he now considers his role model (because he doesn't have anybody else and Shanks is the only father figure around and he's just that nice) to come back from his adventures, and only being taken care of by Makino who has no responsibility over Luffy but still takes care of him because otherwise the kid would probably die from starvation, and lucky for him she's a sweetheart. And then he loses Uta, his only friend (with no explanation at all), to then carry the guilt of Shanks losing an arm for him and suddenly his legacy as a pirate. And then he's sent to another place with other people he doesn't know, because Garp thought "oh, yes, wonderful idea to leave my grandson with this depressed kid and some bandits" and Luffy luckily befriends Ace and Sabo because they're good people. Luckily. And luckily, Dadan is a good mom and loves them. But then Sabo fucking dies because nobody with authority was protecting these kids (I wonder who could've done that). And now Luffy has to carry both guilt, a legacy, and the biggest abandonment issues I've ever seen after losing his best friend and his brother when they were just children.

And I'm not saying Garp has made horrible decisions but he has made horrible decisions and Dragon should hit his own dad with Sabo's metal pipe.
