I was looking for my friend in a dormitory exclusively for transmasc people. He is, in fact, amab, so I don’t know why I thought he’d be there. I eventually found him in the back-row seats of a theater where he was watching a stand-up comedian do a routine about My Little Pony.
NOTE: yes, the divide of content is sexist, but everyone needs this information. it’s important to know what vitamins you need and why, recipes so you can feed yourself, and how to care for your car/bike/appliances; especially if you are leaving home for the first time.
if anyone’s about to move out on their own (whether for college or other reasons), two books I would recommend are Where’s Mom Now That I Need Her? and Where’s Dad Now That I Need Him? these books really provide good guidance on how to do things on your own.
the Mom book includes how to:
recognize various nutritions in your food
get your money’s worth at the grocery store
cook with recipes for breakfast, snacks, lunch, dinner, and dessert
diagnose and treat any injuries and sickness
maintain your clothes through laundry and repair
maintain your car/bicycle and how to recognize any issues
the Dad book includes how to:
find and rent an apartment
choose and buy a car
deal with contracts and warranties
cook with recipes for breakfast, eggs, beverages, meats, grilled food, and homemade ice cream
get into the workforce (and how to quit)
maintain various appliances in your home
perform basic housekeeping
you can find these books on Amazon or in a discounted book store
University is a little bit of studying and a whole lot of having an existential crisis on an empty stomach at 3am with 5 missed calls from your mom, incomplete assignments, unwashed dishes, a “You up?” text from your situationship while you’re staring at the rusty dusty ceiling of your dorm room wondering what choices did you even make in your life that has led you here.
