Marlene - Wildfire
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"It was the first breath of fresh air she had in her suffocating household, the first time she felt like she was free, there was a whole world around her waiting to be explored and Marlene couldn’t wait to be able to fly over it all."
"Don’t get her wrong. Marlene loved her mother, her father and especially her six brothers, who never treated her any differently because she had been the only one unlucky enough to be born a girl in that place. Not that Marlene wished she’d been born a boy, she only wanted the freedom that came with being one."

“You look beautiful,” Dorcas tells her earnestly. “How could you not?”
“Are you trying to flirt with me?” Marlene laughs, wiping her face quickly. She throws the used cloth into the bowl with the other.
“No, only telling the truth,” Dorcas admits with a smile, then adds, “It can be flirting if you want it to be.”
Marlene leans across and kisses Dorcas again. Dorcas relaxes into it, smiling even as their lips press together. They fall back onto Marlene’s mattress, Marlene on top.

oooooh “could you promise me one thing?" + dorelene? - goldenbi
@goldenbi well, it took me nearly four months, but here ya go... I'm not gonna lie, I hate myself a bit for this one.
Promises to Keep
dorlene angst fic - 1,142 words - rated T - major character death summary: Marlene and Dorcas have run out of ways to say goodbye.
The silence hanging between them is too familiar. Marlene’s chest feels like it’s caving in from the pressure of it. Every one of their goodbyes over the last two years has sagged under the weight of unspoken fears. “I’ll see you tonight,” was, at first, a determined statement of fact. Dorcas would squeeze her wrist hard and stare into Marlene’s face for a few moments, like she was branding her. A threat to the universe: don’t you dare lay a hand on this one – she’s mine. They’d kiss each other hard and only then would Marlene be allowed to leave for the day, under the banner of this protection.
But as more missions failed and attacks only increased, their goodbyes became questions. “I’ll see you tomorrow?” Dorcas would ask Marlene, her dark hand grasping Marlene’s pale fingers loosely. And Marlene would kiss Dorcas’s soft lips and keep her voice firm as she answered, “I’ll see you tomorrow,” even though they knew it was a promise she might not keep. When it was Dorcas leaving for a mission, Marlene would hold her hips and ask, “Will you be home tomorrow?” And Dorcas would grasp the back of Marlene’s neck and pull her into a kiss and say, “I’ll be home before you know it.”
At first Marlene did return the next day; at first Dorcas was back before Marlene knew it. They didn’t name it when their homecomings started coming later and later. They’d pretend it hadn’t been days of worrying, days of casting patronuses to allies to see if they’d heard anything. Marlene would bandage Dorcas’s wounds; Dorcas would brew a healing potion. They’d sink into their couch and kiss like the world was ending, never admitting that it truly was.
Then, two weeks ago, Benjy Fenwick didn’t come back from a mission; Fabian and Gideon, the unbeatable Prewett twins, were brought down in an ambush; and James and Lily Potter disappeared into hiding with Harry’s first birthday only a week away. His gift sits on Marlene and Dorcas’s kitchen table, wrapped and ready, because they don’t know where to send it.

Fake Date
Dorlene WIP | 683 words
By the end of practise, thoughts of her traitorous best friend had left her mind. She had completely forgotten the burning in her chest when she'd seen him sucking face with his boyfriend, too preoccupied with washing the sweat and dirt off her body. The intense training James had them doing leading up to the Slytherin match had helped clear her mind and provide a much-needed distraction.
It's not until she's walking back into the empty Gryffindor change rooms in no hurry to get to the hall for dinner, and Dorcas fucking Meadowes is standing fully dressed by the door waiting for her and says something so out of this realm that it comes back to smack her in the face. Marlene isn't entirely sure she didn't get a concussion during quidditch training.
"Lily convinced me to go along with your moronic Gryffindor plan. I told her yes, but I thought I should tell you to your face."
Marlene, ever eloquent, still standing in the middle of the quidditch girls locker rooms, simply responds, "Huh?"
Dorcas frowns at her like she's something disgusting caught on the bottom of her shiny black boots and clarifies, "As of right now, until the end of Black's party this weekend, we are officially dating."
Oh.
Oh.
It all clicks into place; puzzle pieces flipped and snapped into place, the border of her landscape jigsaw is complete. Lily running off after promising to fix it without sharing her method after making Marlene profusely promise to keep an open mind. Marlene had seen her sitting next to Regulus that evening in the library; Regulus, who is best friends with—
"No." She shakes her head in disbelief.
Lily was too smart to come up with such a stupid idea, and Dorcas was too uncaring to go along with it. Slytherins were self-serving; Dorcas got nothing out of this. She'd probably complain that, if anything, Marlene would taint her 'reputation.'
"What did Lily promise you?"
"We have a deal, and it's none of your business. Though I'm sure I could have argued for such advantages, you're no doubt thinking of right now." Dorcas' nose crinkled and her bottom lip twitched, so briefly she would have missed it if she blinked. Presently, she's forgotten how to blink. And breathe. And think.
"Fuck," she whispers, dragging the word out and groaning at the ceiling.
"So you don't want a date to Black's party?" Dorcas asks, more focused on her nails than Marlene's current meltdown.
"Yeah, a date. Not you!" Marlene flings her hands vaguely in the Slytherin's direction.
She slams open her locker, and Dorcas actually laughs at her. "I can see why the ladies avoid you; your charm is quite aggressive."
"Says the slimy snake." Marlene spits back.
"At least I don't have my friends convincing girls to fake-date me."
"Why would you need anyone to—'
Marlene wouldn't consider herself very observational off the quidditch field; it's not often that her awareness spreads further than her little Gryffindor bubble. But on the field, her eyes see everything. A good beater can read the people around them, both their team and the opposition. Spotting their tells is her job.
She watches the way Dorcas doesn't quite meet her eyes, staring just past her ear, not quite at her face. The tightening pull of her lips and the way her left forefinger taps one, two, three times every few seconds against her right hand pulse point. Marlene pieces her together and laughs.
"Don't." Dorcas grumbles.
"Merlin's balls!" Marlene laughs as she stalks up into Dorcas' personal space. "Why does the Dorcas Meadowes need a fake girlfriend?"
"It's a fake date."
"Tom-ay-to, tom-ah-to." Marlene waves her off, poking a finger into her chest. "Don't change the subject."
"Shouldn't you get some clothes on," she says glancing down at the towel wrapped around Marlene's chest. "Or do you like walking around starkers like a toddler?"
"Why?" Marlene asks. "Flustered, Meadowes?"
"Over you, McKinnon?" Dorcas' gaze rakes over Marlene's body like a physical touch. "Not a chance."
Marlene smirks, leaning in and whispering right into the Slytherin's ear. "Liar."

Be Mine: A Homecoming B-Side
Pairing: Dorcas Meadowes / Marlene McKinnon Rating: E Wordcount: 4,531 Co-Authored by MissAmericanBi and @thisliminalspacedaydreams
It’s a set to end all sets. In an underground kink club, less than a hundred people present, Marlene plays like the world is ending. And it is—for her. Or rather, it narrows. Tunnel vision, she starts putting shapes on the rest of her life, and it looks like the features of the girl in the front row, on the left.
The man puts his arm around the girl, confident as a peacock, and Marlene smirks.
Oh, she really does like ruining lives.

I would just like to say... that I would die for these two simping fools. That's it. That's the post.
“I read that book you were talking about.” Marlene spoke after a moment. “The bluest eye, I mean.”
Dorcas’s eyes were on her in an instant. Almost too stunned to speak. Almost. “You read a book I talked about?!” She asked sceptically.
Marlene just laughed. “I do read you know. No need to doubt my ability.”
Dorcas hadn’t been doubting her ability at all. It was just that she couldn’t imagine Marlene McKinnon sitting still long enough to read a book, just because Dorcas had talked about it.
“Anyway,” Marlene continued. “It was good. Really good. Lily had a copy on her shelf, so I stole that. And I really see what you were saying about that one quote. How does it go… ‘We mistook violence for passion, indolence for leisure, and thought recklessness was freedom’…”
Marlene kept speaking, but Dorcas had stopped listening. She was too hooked on how that quote had sounded between Marlene’s lips. Her favourite quote. Marlene’s lips.
Dorcas’s feeble mind couldn’t focus on anything else. Because for one, Marlene McKinnon, miss ‘I don’t read unless I’m forced to do so’, had read a book Dorcas had talked about once. And two, she’d remembered which quote was Dorcas’s favourite. Word for word.

"got you," dorcas said. it was the winter of third year, and she'd just prevented a girl from toppling over onto the pavement. the girl had been running, with blonde locks flickering rowdily behind her, and books messily clutched to her chest. "merlin, i'm sorry. i'm usually not like this. well, actually, i think i am. dunno. anyways, oh my, i'm really sorry. i'll be on my - um - on my way, now. thanks!" she rambled as she stumbled down the hall.
"got you," dorcas murmured triumphantly, as the bludger shot through the air. marlene was the chaser's name, or something like that. she looked a bit familiar. whatever the blonde's name was, the bludger was hurtling straight for her. it was the autumn of fourth year, and slytherin was playing against gryffindor. dorcas scowled as her opponent swerved away. the gryffindor turned to smugly grin at her, raising her middle finger in the air. "bitch," marlene mouthed.
"got you," dorcas hazily laughed. it was fifth year, and the lights were colourful. gryffindor was throwing a party, and one way or another, people from different houses ended up sneaking in - including her. she didn't know where her other friends were, but that didn't matter, not when she had marlene mckinnon's arms hung around her neck. the blonde had pretty much thrown herself at the slytherin. dorcas had probably gotten too much to drink, but so did marlene. "you know, when you aren't trying to attack me on the quidditch field, you're - hic - really, um, really pretty."
"got you," dorcas softly muttered, leaning into her girlfriend's comforting jumper. it was the middle of sixth year, and she thinks she's falling in love with marlene. before she could say another word, the other girl trailed her finger along dorcas' wrist, and whispered, "i got you, too."
"got you," dorcas was shattered. no, that didn't seem to explain the orchestra of chaos that pounded in her head. she wasn't shattered, she wasn't heartbroken, she wasn't devasted. she was something entirely different. grief was such a simple word to encapsulate what it was like to hold marlene mckinnon's dead body in her arms. is this what insanity felt like? it ripped through her ribs, her lips, her chest, her heart, her lungs. because, for once, marlene had nothing to say.
