happy wincest wednesday!! deanna ask<33. do you think anything about s6 happens differently in the het version? or maybe s9/10?
yayyyy happy wincest wednesday, a day Deanna gets to shine <3
I mean the first thing that I think is true is that Deanna is staying with uhh Mark, the hot dude she hooked up with way back when Sam was at Stanford, and Mark's got a kid from a failed relationship with a past woman and Deanna learns to make pretty good meatballs and stir fry and tomato rice soup from scratch when little Ben is sick, and it's actually a lot harder for her to leave than it was for Dean.
But Sam's back and she has to go -- has to, even if she tells Mark that it's just a quick hunt to help and she'll be back for Ben's soccer game on Saturday -- and the break-up with Mark happens a lot faster and is a LOT more painful than the one with Lisa because Sam talks his way into her panties on that very first solo hunt together, when they're alone after the Campbells go their own way, and in her life Deanna has never ever thought of herself as a cheater but it's -- Sam, and his mouth tastes the same and his hands are finally the right size on her jaw when he drags her in close and he's the right weight between her thighs, lying heavy on her hips, at last, after the last year (and more) of missing him. He rolls off the bed quick after but she hardly notices at first that something's off because the sheer relief is too much for her to notice anything else at all, and it's not until she's showering, after, that the random thought pops into her head that she was going to pick up a 24-pack of Gatorade for the kids before the game, and then she realizes that she's got to tell Mark. She's got to. It's not fair, otherwise.
When Cas finally reveals that Sam's soulless she doesn't beat him up -- physically can't, for one thing, especially not now that he's gone all greek god -- but she walks out of the room and gets into the car and knows that from Calumet City to Battle Creek where Mark and Ben are living now is two and a half hours, and two hours if she ignores traffic laws, and she thinks about it -- she thinks about walking in and hugging Ben and taking Mark into the bedroom that she'd barely started to unpack before the breakup and going to her knees and saying how sorry she was, and how she'd never meant to be this way, and could she come back, please, could she crawl back into their bed and have the good boring sex they had and could she try again to make his mom's recipe for cinnamon rolls and could she teach Ben how to repair a carburetor, and get it right this time, and raise a kid who wouldn't crack her heart in half, wouldn't make her want to lay down and never get up again for the sheer enormity of what loving him did to her. How impossible it was to exist under the weight of it.
Then she gets back out of the car and goes back up to where Cas is finishing up his examination of Sam and she tells Cas to leave the room and she tells Sam that they're done, until he gets fixed. "I feel fine," Sam says. "Nothing about this is fine," Deanna says, and his eyes skip from her eyes to her mouth to her tits and then he shrugs, turns away and puts his belt back on, like so what. Like, fine, he'd get it somewhere else and it didn't matter. Deanna goes outside to where Cas is awkwardly waiting and thinks that whoever did this, whoever bifurcated her brother and removed all the best parts of him, she will find that person and destroy them to the last atom, if it's the last thing she does. (Cas looks from her face to the door beyond which Sam's waiting, and disappears.)

im procrastinating again so im gonna talk about SAMS Eclipse, and more specifically why he didn't anticipate Lunar betraying him
Cos like, from an outside perspective it's a logical progression, right? Eclipse acted nice(ish) at first, told Lunar what he thought would make Lunar agree to help. As he got more frustrated about the lack of progress, he started taking it out on Lunar, who as a result started leaning on Monty as someone that was still being nice to him. That culminated in Eclipse and Lunar's fight, where Lunar said 'fuck this I'm out' and swapped with Moon.
(Honestly? I don't know if Eclipse ever meant to reset the universe to make everything 'better', or if that was just what he thought Lunar would accept as a long-term goal)
So it seems weird that Eclipse never saw the potential for betrayal coming. He didn't suspect Lunar would side with Moon to the point that he didn't even question "Lunar" knowing magic and their stupid one-upsmanship thing right after Moon took back control.
But take a step back for a bit. Up until that October, Eclipse never had the freedom of his own body. He was a passenger, watching someone else's lives and occasionally climbing into the driver's seat whenever he could take the wheel.
And whose lives was he watching? Who was Eclipse's only example of a sibling relationship?
Eclipse never anticipated Lunar turning on him because Sun never turned on Moon.
Moon used Sun for experiments, verbally abused him, punched him in the face-- and Sun forgave him for it. Sun weathered the worst parts of Moon's personality so that they came out on the other side intact.
Eclipse didn't even know it was an option for Lunar to get so tired of his shit that he would leave! And maybe if Lunar had been alone he would have dealt with it, but he ended up having Monty to lean on as a kind of middle ground.
(Sun, this isn't about you, so I'm not going to look too closely at your utter lack of any kind of social life and how that might have affected your willingness to stay by Moon's side 8'D )
I don't think Eclipse ever says anything about it at the time, but I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason he killed Lunar once he got the star was directly in retaliation to a wound that goes a lot deeper than you'd think. Like, yes, he killed Lunar for betraying him, but in his eyes it was a massive, impossible breach of trust. Brothers just... don't turn on one another like that? They stick together no matter what?
And also he was hyped up on victory and is generally an unpleasant person but. Yeah.
Eclipse didn't anticipate Lunar's betrayal because his only role model for a sibling relationship is HELLA unhealthy and he literally didn't realize it was an option.

BETRAYAL
Colby brock x female reader
A/n: this is not a happy story! I legit cried making this. This takes space at the trap house so sam,corey,and jake live with colby (and you in this) but colby and you are 26.
Summary: you find out that maybe you're entire relationship is a lie.
Your pov
I come home from a hard day at work, everywhere on my body hurts and I'm emotionally drained. All I want is to cuddle up to colby and go sleep in his arms.
I walk upstairs and towards his room, I find him asleep in bed, I check the time. "One fifty-five Am" I whisper to myself. I set my things down quietly, making sure not to wake him.
I brush my hair out and put on one of his shirts and a pair of his basketball shorts. I climb into bed next to him.
He stirs in his sleep, "hey" he says groggy, his voice raspy and deep from sleep. I smile at him.
"Hi" I say snuggling up to him. He sighs, and sits up.
"Whats wrong baby?" I ask
"We need to uhm talk" he says and clicks the lamp next to his bed on.
My mind starts to race. About what? Did I do something wrong?
"I don't think we're going to work out y/n" he says rubbing his face. I'm in shock, this is a conversation I never thought I would be having.
"What? We have been together for the last eight years. Since we were eighteen colby, what do you mean" I blurt out, my voice wavering as tears flow down my face.
He sighs and sits there, not saying anything. "Colby. Why are you doing this? Tell me the truth." I choke out.
His face displays anger, "Fine you want the fucking truth?"He pauses "I never loved you"
His words cut deeper than any knife could. The world seems to stop for a minute. How could this be true? When we met we were both two kids trying to make it in LA. I sit there looking deep into his eyes, what does he mean he never loved me?
"Okay" I say and drag myself out of what used to be our bed and grab my backpack and shove my shit in it. I change out of his clothes, and put my own on. I shove my aching feet into my shoes and tie them tightly.
"Where are you going" he asks sounding defensive.
"YOU DONT FUCKING LOVE ME! YOU NEVER DID! YOU ADMITTED IT! I'M NOT GOING TO SHARE A BED WITH A MAN I LOVE SO DEEPLY WHO HAS NEVER LOVED ME. SO FUCK OF" I yell, I hear approaching footsteps, I recognize them as sam. He opens the door in a hurry.
"Colby what the fuck did you do" he asks his voice sounding desperate.
"He doesn't love me sam. He never has." I say and fall to my knees crying.
Sam glares at colby. "I'm leaving sam" I say and slowly pick myself off the floor and grab my bag.
"Where would you go" he asks.
"I don't know, I just can't stay here" I say and he hugs me tightly and tells me to be safe.
I walk out of the door, still sobbing. These past eight years have been a lie. I've never meant anything to colby. Never have never will. God what a shitty betrayal.

Well now I'm crying. Anyway, how did I do?

A Heart-Wrenching Betrayal
Pairings: Ethan Landry x Male!Reader
Summary: The reveals of the ghostface's leave M/N heartbroken because the one person he trusted the most betrayed him.
Genre; Angst
Warning: Mentions of blood, character death, a dead virgin, spoilers from movie
Part 1
Tumblr media
After being in the hospital for a few days, it was finally time. Finally time to end the ghostface killings once and for all. A plan was made to lure in the ghostfaces in a secure area and, "execute them." Tara said looking up from the phone at the group.
The group agreed on a plan and now all you hoped was for the plan to work out. To finally avenge your friend Anika, and all the other people he killed.
The group made their way towards the subway, you and ethan staying behind a little bit to talk. "You know, I can't wait for this to be all over. It'll feel so good to finally be able to relax without worrying about getting stabbed every time I close my eyes." You spoke to ethan, hand in his.
"Same. But I can't wait to finally relax with you." He smiled while looking at you. You couldn't help but smile back, kissing his cheek in the process of walking. There was something about Ethan that made you fall deeper for him every time you looked at him. Maybe it was his charming smile, or his geeky personality, but you felt like you could trust him with your whole world. Like he'd never to anything bad to purposely hurt you.
Once you guys made it to the subway, you noticed that it was crowded. Very crowded. You were somewhat relieved since you knew the chances of ghostface getting you were very slim, but at the same time you were bit of a claustrophobic person. The group made their way towards the bus, but in the process your hand accidentally slipped out of Ethan's and now he was no where to be seen. "Ethan?" You called out, hoping to get an answer, but to no avail.
You sighed, getting on the bus with the other four. Wait... four? Mindy was also missing too. But, the second the door's began to close, she appeared. But it was too late and the subway was about to takeoff. Chad tried keeping the door open it forced itself shut. "Great, now Mindy and Ethan are gonna be a few minutes behind us." You said, irritated that the group was split up.
"Don't worry, they can just catch the next one. They won't be that far behind us, maybe like 5 minutes at most." Said sam, holding onto the pole to keep her from falling. "Uh.. guys.." Tara said, a slight look of anxiousness on her face. You looked at what she was facing it, seeing all of the ghostface costumes on the train. "Great, anyone of these fuckers could be him." You said, sitting down at an open seat.
"I doubt he'd try to attack in such a crowded space. Plus, he probably doesn't know we're here." Chad said reassuringly. "Hope so.." you mumbled.
Finally the tenth stop was reached and you were now leaving the train. You finally met up with Kirby, who told the group that everything was set up. "Where are Mindy and Ethan?" Kirby asked sam. "Oh, they're five minutes behind us." She responded back, Kirby nodding her head. But before anything else could happen, Sam looked at Danny. "Not you."
Danny looked confused, "What?" he asked. "Don't trust anyone, remember? We don't know you, not really..." She responded back. Danny was stunned for a second, "You know me" he said. "You aren't Woodsboro, I'm sorry." She said, hoping Danny would understand, In which he did. "It's okay, I get it. Stay safe okay." He pulled Sam into a hug. "Wait- But I'm not Woodsboro.." You said, slightly confused that Sam didn't stop you either. "You're an exception, now let's go."
Once you guys made it down to the shrine, Sam asked if anyone had any weapons on them. Kirby pulled out her gun, "Okay I'm an exception. I work for the FBI." She said trying to defend herself. Sam shrugged, "Okay well I'm gonna go call Mindy and ask if her and Ethan are almost here." Sam said, leaving the rest of the group. Kirby, Tara, and Chad also departed, leaving you alone.
Since you knew no one in the shrine was the killer, you felt safe to walk around and explore. You walked around and took out your phone, messaging Ethan to see if he was almost at the shrine. A minute passed and he didn't respond, "Maybe he just has bad service?" You thought to yourself, trying to remove any thought that he may have gotten hurt.
//Time skip to Chad getting hurt b/c I cannot have this story being hella long 😭 //
Chad was about to smash a jar onto ghostface's head but he was quickly stopped after getting stabbed in the hip. Tara screamed, trying to get to Chad, but you and Sam stopped her from going. The other ghostface got up from the ground and began stabbing Chad repeatedly. "NO!" Tara screamed, trying to get out of your guys' grasp. "Leave... g-go.." Chad weakly said, blood spilling out of his mouth.
//time skip to ghostface reveals yayy//
"Watch out-" Kirby yelled, but was quickly cut off after being shot multiple times by officer Bailey. Your eyes widened when Kirby dropped to the floor. You were even more shocked when one of the ghostfaces came up behind Bailey. A second after, the second ghostface came up behind him. "W-what the fuck..?" You spoke, but it was almost a whisper. "You..?" Tara asked in shocked. "Ehh, of course me. Frankly I expected more from the three of you, especially you two after what you did to us." He spoke, more focused on Tara and Sam. "What do you mean us?" Tara asked confused.
Then, one of the ghostfaces unmasked themselves. You felt your heart break into a million pieces. It was as if your world completely came tumbling down. You felt sick to your stomach when the first ghostface revealed their identity. "Ethan..?" You weakly spoke and you felt a pit in your stomach as you swallowed the lump in your throat. "Ta-da" Officer bailey said. "Surprise babe. You know, Mindy was right. It was easy to juke the roommate lottery." Ethan chuckled.
"Ethan, what the fuck?... I thought- you knew-.." You couldn't get any words out of you. It dawned on you that Ethan knew Anika would die and he didn't do anything to stop it. "What? You really thought I loved you, M/N? I mean, I only got close to you because you were friends with Sam and Tara before I met you." No, you couldn't believe it. Was what he was saying really true? Did he really never love you?
"But what about..- no.. fuck you, Ethan.." You gave your whole world to Ethan just for him to stomp on it and say 'fuck you'. I guess that's what you get for trusting the dorky ones. "God and you know what? If felt so fucking good to kill Chad!" He laughed out loud.
"But if it's you two, then that just leaves... Mindy?" Sam questioned, fearing her good friend was behind the killings. The last ghostface revealed themselves. "Quinn?!" You spoke in a shocked tone. "Hey roomies, didn't see that one coming, did you?" She asked, clearly proud of herself. "No because you died!" Tara yelled. "Kinda didn't though.. It was a good way to get off the suspect list. Stab Mindy, stab Gale Weathers." You were in utter shocked. You still couldn't comprehend that your boyfriend & friend were the ghostfaces.. and officer bailey.
"I mean, it was just a little fake blood, a prosthetic.. you'd be surprised with what a grieving father can get away with." Officer Bailey said, proceeding to walk toward the small group.
// Time skip to after the explanation of Richie and after they climb the ladder cuz no one cares and b/c this fic is already hella long omg //
You walked behind the rail, trying your best to not slip. Tara and Sam had made it across and u were a little behind. But of course with your amazing luck you accidentally slipped. Tara and Sam managed to grab your arm before your fell. "Oh fuck, oh fuck!" You screamed, holding onto them for dear life. Ethan hadn't made it any easier because he tried grabbing and cutting you from below. "You know I've always wanted to stick something in you, M/N!" He yelled while laughing. "Fuck you!' You shouted back at him. "Fuck you!" He said back, even louder.
"Shit, I'm slipping! I don't think I can hold on!" You exclaimed. The blood on your guys' hand made it hard to hold on. "Let me go." You said, already knowing you may fall anyways. "No way, M/N! We aren't letting go!" Sam yelled back. "You have to let me go, Sam!" Sam and Tara heard footsteps from beside Sam and saw Quinn. "Shit.." Tara mumbled. Luckily you had a plan.
You looked at Sam and then the knife she had on her. She nodded and gave you the knife before Tara and Sam let you go. You fell onto the floor. "Got ya, babe!" Ethan exclaimed, swinging his knife into your leg. You screamed out in pain but quickly grabbed onto Ethan, swinging your knife into the side of his neck. He screamed before pleading for forgiviness.
"W-w-ait, pl-e-ase b..babe. I-Lo-ve.. you.." He weakly said, hoping you'd let him go. "Rot in hell you virgin bitch." And with that, you took the knife out him before slicing his throat. You pushed his body onto the ground, watching him struggle to survive before his movements soon came to a stop.
There was a part of you that still loved Ethan. That still wishes things could have been right with him. He broke your heart, yet there was still some guilt you had when you killed him. When you looked at him and saw the man you once loved before now dead on the ground, it hurt to see.
"Ethan Landry, though you broke my heart, I'll never stop loving you. I'll miss you forever."

~~~~
Everybody’s naked and there’s a country to run by @coffeegleek
A take on the "prince/king!Blaine and prince/king!Kurt are getting married and have to do it while naked in front of their loyal subjects" trope. It’s pure crack taken seriously. I’m blaming the heat. The fic started as this wisp of an idea and a single funny Kurt line. It was supposed to all be fast paced and instead sometimes dissolves into a bit of world building, exposition, and Kurt feelings. I do try my best and hope that at least some of the jokes and humor land. It also developed a full blown plot that has a beginning and an end.
It's all working out great - until Kurt starts to fall hard for the dark-haired music director of his latest musical.
Revelations pt. 1
[History on Your Side—Chapter 2.] Sam Winchester x Reader
Tumblr media
Chapter summary: Sam and Dean make some revelations about the case. *Please see the masterlist for entire work summary and tags* Masterlist | Read on AO3
Tumblr media
Back at the motel, Sam retrieved the materials provided by you from his bag. He set them on the wooden table, preparing for an afternoon of research. The sterile glow of the ceiling lights lit up the otherwise dim room, highlighting the mound of books, journals and ancient manuscripts.
Dean sat back in a chair, flipping through the pages of a weathered journal. "Seems like this tribe has quite a history."
Sam nodded, tracing his fingers over the illustrations in one of the books. "Let's dig deeper... see if there's any mention of an event that might have triggered this haunting."
---
The hours slipped away quietly in their motel room as they immersed themselves in the writings. Sam diligently jotted down notes while Dean cross-references multiple sources. The details gradually revealed layers of forgotten tales and unresolved conflicts rooted in the regions past.
"This could be it, Dean." A spark of excitement coloured Sam's voice. "This part here," he pointed, tracing a line in a fading manuscript. "It mentions a tribal conflict that led to an act of betrayal."
Dean's eyes widened as he read through the passage. "Sounds promising."
"We've got to visit the site of the conflict, see if there are any clues left behind," Sam suggested, a glimmer of hope in his voice.
Dean nodded in agreement, his jaw set with determination. "Tomorrow, first thing."
---
Later that day, as the sun dipped lower in the sky, Sam's inbox chimed with an email. He glanced at the screen, surprised to see it was from you. Opening the message, he read your words with a mix of curiosity and anticipation.
"Hi Sam, it's Y/N from earlier. Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know I've found some extra notes on the tribe. I've attached what I can, but there are some older records in the department. Feel free to pop round tomorrow if you're interested. - Y/N"
As Sam typed out his reply, Dean leaned over, trying to catch a glimpse of the conversation. "Whatcha writing there, Shakespeare?"
Sam shot him a sideways glance. "Just a thank you. Y/N found more on the tribe. She's offering to help tomorrow."
Dean's curiosity peaked. "Seems our charming reporter act paid off, huh?"
"Seems that way." Sam hit 'send', confirming their meeting for tomorrow. "We'll swing by before the stakeout, better to be prepared."
---
The following day, sunlight filtered through the motel's windows as Sam got ready for the day. He'd already been on his morning run and spent a little longer in the shower than usual. He also spent an extra moment fixing his hair and adjusting his shirt, an unconscious effort to look more put together.
Dean eyed his brother with a smirk. "Taking your time there, Sammy. Someone got a date with the good doctor?"
Sam rolled his eyes, trying to brush off Dean's teasing. "Can we focus on the case, please?"
"Sure, sure, just making sure you're looking your best for our scholarly rendezvous," Dean teased, his grin widening.
Sam shook his head, ignoring his brother's remarks as he grabbed his jacket. "Let's just go, Dean."
The drive to the university was filled with Dean's jokes and Sam's attempts to redirect the conversation to the haunting. Sam fidgeted with the sleeve of his jacket, smoothing out invisible wrinkles.
They arrived at the history department and were welcomed by you greeting them with a warm smile. "Hey, Sam, Dean. Glad you could make it. Come on in."
Sam's heart skipped a beat in your presence, but he quickly pushed aside his nerves, focusing on the task at hand.
As they settled into your office, you laid out the notes you'd found, detailing the tribe's history and their interactions with the land. Your passion for history was evident in the way you spoke, and Sam found himself admiring not just your knowledge but also your dedication to your work. Sam contributed his thoughts and ideas, occasionally catching your eye. He tried to push aside any distracting thoughts, reminding himself they were here for the case.
After a lengthy discussion, you glanced at your watch. "I hate to cut this short, but I have a meeting in... two minutes..." Shit! "I hope this has been useful?"
Sam nodded, grateful for your help. "Thanks, and definitely... We really appreciate all your help."
Dean chimed in with a charming grin. "Yeah, thanks for shedding more light on this Doc."
You smiled warmly. "Of course, I'm grateful that my work can make a difference."
Sam smiled. "We're heading to the woodland later, so what you've told us about these landmarks will really help".
"Oh, great, just…well, be careful." You cringed internally. These men were hunters, they've dealt with dangers you've never even contemplated and you're telling them to 'be careful'? You felt like crawling into a hole and dying from embarrassment.
"We always are Doc. Right Sammy?" Dean slapped his brother on the shoulder.
A warmth spread through Sam's chest. "Thanks Y/N, we will be."
"Let me know how it goes? If you don't mind...? I feel like I'm invested in this case now" you chuckled tentatively.
"Uh, yeah, absolutely... Pop your number in and I'll update you once we're safe, how's that?" Sam passed you his phone, a tentative proposition to get your number.
"Sure" you smiled, catching a glint in Sam's eye as you tapped in your details.
"Thanks." As you passed him back his phone, your fingers unintentionally brushed against his, a pang surging through you both as you locked eyes. You quickly averted your gaze, feeling the intensity of his stare. Out of the corner of your eye, you swear you see him smile.
With a final nod, you headed off, a faint blush spreading across your face as you hurried to your meeting.
As you left, Sam couldn't shake off the nervous excitement tingling in his veins. He glanced at Dean, who was sporting a mischievous smirk.
"What?" Sam asked, slightly on edge from his brother's expression.
Dean chuckled. "Smooth moves in there, Sammy."
Sam's cheeks flushed slightly. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh, come on! 'I'll let you know when we're safe'... You're smooth with the ladies."
Sam rolled his eyes, trying to suppress a grin. "I was just being polite!"
"Sure, sure," Dean teased, enjoying Sam's discomfort. "She seemed into it, though. Who knows, maybe she'll slide into your DMs?"
Sam chuckled, feeling both amused and hopeful. "Can we focus on the case, please?"
Dean raised his hands in mock surrender. "Alright, alright, Mr. Smooth Operator. Let's get to that stakeout. But first, lunch, I'm a starved man!"
---
Sam and Dean decided to grab a quick bite at a nearby diner. Dean had a burger and fries whilst Sam ordered a protein salad. As they sat in a booth, Sam picked at his food, lost in thought about the case and… the way your hand had felt against his skin. Dean, on the other hand, was more focused on the plate of fries in front of him.
"You're quiet, Sammy," Dean noted, dipping a fry into ketchup. "Thoughts on the case?"
Sam looked up from his food, taking a moment to compose his thoughts. "Uh... yeah... all this new information definitely adds up. Y/N really knows her stuff."
Dean nodded in agreement. "Absolutely. She's got a real knack for details."
"And... she seems genuinely interested in helping us." Sam added, casting a glance at Dean.
"Yeah, she's passionate about her work, just like we are."
Sam nodded, becoming lost in his thoughts once again. Maybe she's the missing piece in solving this mess...
---
The day had transitioned into a dull, rainy afternoon. Dean maneuvered the Impala through the foggy roads, the rain tapping a steady rhythm on the car's roof. A soft grey hue veiled the horizon, the dimming daylight casting an eerie glow over the landscape. As they arrived at the woodland, the rain surpassed into a fine drizzle, surprisingly freshening against their skin.
Sam carried his phone, having snapped a picture of a map detailing the historical landmarks belonging to the tribe. An ancient tomb, nested at the edge of the clearing, held the most hope, so they began their search there.
Sam consulted the map under the dimming light, occasionally glancing up to gauge their surroundings.
Dean squinted through the drizzle, his eyes darting between the rocks jutting from the ground barely visible in the fading daylight. "This place gives me the creeps, Sammy. Feels like something's watching us."
"Yeah, well, that's kinda the job description."
They pressed on, their boots squelching in the soft mud. The mist thickened, swirling around them, adding an eerie quality to the already haunted scene.
Suddenly, Sam stopped, his gaze fixed on a moss-covered stone embedded in the side of a hill. "Look Dean! Here… this sigil, it matches the one in Y/N's book earlier."
"I'll be darned." Dean peered at the rockface, raindrops trickling down its weathered surface. "Think it's safe to assume that it's not going to be a straightforward 'dig and burn' situation?"
Sam nodded. "Records suggest the tribe burn their dead. The spirit must be tied here another way."
Dean nodded, as he pulled out the EMF. It started to buzz straight away. "Well, I think we've struck gold, this is definitely the place".
The brother's kept up their guard, looking out for any potential danger, but none came.
"Strange" Dean mused. "There hasn't been a sighting in a few weeks, but the dude's clearly here. Ever heard of a shy ghost?"
"Beats me" said Sam. "Come on, let's head back, no need to piss him off before we know how to finish him".
---
As they returned to the rundown motel room, the rain picked up again, the sky deepening. The brothers kicked off their boots and shrugged out of their wet jackets.
Dean lounged on a creaky chair, flicking on the TV as he kicked his feet on the table. Sam sat on the edge of his bed, taking his phone from his pocket. He scanned through his contact list to find your name and typed out a message.
"Hey Y/N, it's Sam. We're back, safe and sound! Thanks again for all your help. Hope your meeting went well?"
A few minutes later, a notification buzzed. Sam quickly unlocked his phone to read your reply.
"Hey Sam! Glad to hear you guys made it back safely. My meeting was fine, thanks! How'd it go? Did you find what you were looking for?"
Sam smiled at your response, your enthusiasm evident even in the text. He started typing out a reply when Dean interrupted, flicking through the channels with a bored expression.
"Sammy, what are you grinning about over there?"
Sam remained focused on his phone screen. "Uh, nothing... Just catching up on messages."
Dean arched an eyebrow. "Uh-huh, sure. Anything interesting?"
Sam shrugged nonchalantly, trying to play it cool. "Just updating Y/N like I said I would. Nothing major."
Dean chuckled, turning back to the TV.
Sam rolled his eyes and continued tapping out his message.
"We found the tomb-definitely a ghost there, but as there's no bones, I'm thinking we're going to need a spell of some sort."
As the evening passed, Sam eagerly checked his phone, awaiting your next reply. But none came. After a few hours he resigned himself to thinking that you must be busy, asleep, or uninterested, until his phone started to ring. He glanced at the caller ID, eyes torn from the crappy TV show Dean was watching. It was you.
Butterflies formed in his stomach as he straightened up from where he had been reclining against his bed. "Hey, Y/N, what's up?"
Dean's ears pricked up.
"Sam..." Your voice came through with a hint of excitement and breathlessness. "Hope you don't mind me calling, but after your message, I had a look through some old texts, and… I think I've found something… a spell…I think... I'm not too sure..."
Sam's heart quickened at the prospect. "What?! Really?!"
Dean eyed Sam with curiosity.
"Are you busy? I mean…It's just that, I think you need to see this, like…now."
"Uh, okay, yeah, of course, we'll be right there. Where shall we meet you?".
"I'll text you my address, thanks Sam…see you soon."
"What's going on?" Dean asked, pressingly, as a text lit up Sam's phone.
"Y/N thinks she's found a spell... we need to go!"
Just you? | The page, Alan and clu
Someone said this ages before me but the page was meant to get Alan at the arcade, Alan inside the grid. Clu wanted him but settled for Sam. I want to dive a bit deeper into that, especially after reading betrayal (really the novel does wonder for his character and providing additional context for legacy).
Tumblr media
Backup plan—
Contacting Alan was the last desperate attempt to find a normal way out. I can imagine Kevin would have talked about him quite frequently, about how good he was and maybe even admitting to clu he was the one to originally write tron. So, clu figures out a way to contact this “great user” and make him fix everything. Maybe he could finally give the grid a purpose from the outside or do some work on the inside to stabilize everything. I don’t even think clu knows what all needs to be done to fix everything- he’s been lost and a bit power hunger for a while now I’d imagine he’d be forceful with Alan but have good reason to be.
I think having Alan rewrite and fix the grid from the outside (or in if possible) would make the most sense. What the hell use would alan have otherwise? He wouldn’t have a disk! Sam only got one once he was put into the games, additionally alan wouldn’t have the knowledge of the grid to use his disk as a key after receiving one. So getting Alan in the first place had nothing to do with “out there” or “world domination”.
Last resort—
I saw a theory a while ago which I wholeheartedly believe that said, Clu only did all of this (the army, the world domination plans) to give the grid a purpose. It really makes his authoritarian decent into madness all the more tragic, as stated before he never had a chance to be good. He can’t create new programs he can only rewrite what’s there— he’s slipping and out of ideas because endlessly building in a overheating system is a absolute nightmare. A mindless army works great as it takes up as little energy as possible, you can conserve what remains and give your citizens something to actually do… now mind you it’s not a good something to be a mindless drone. After Alan falls through he goes on with the first plan. I also believe the world domination thing also comes about because he’s a reflection of Flynn’s  arrogance back when he made the grid— this is so his speech can almost identically match Flynn’s “in their is our destiny!” -> “out there is our destiny!”. More that for a character motivation that makes sense.
Tumblr media
Clu is a dangerous line. As the more you read into things the more sympathetic he becomes the more you understand his motivations and what lead him down this path. You almost forget how horrible his actions are from how badly a hand he has been dealt. He is fascinating and so unbelievably sad that he saw this (Dictatorship, mind control, genocide ,etc.) as the only way out. He is the antagonist but not the villain.
Sam—
No one was expecting Sam to be the one to arrive at the arcade. Clu didn’t take Into account Alan’s care for him,  probably because clu had his own issues with Sam since he was a baby. It’s interesting as Sam is basically the crux that sets off the film. Plan B didn’t work so we’re going for the crazy world domination plan, let’s use you to lure your dad out of hiding. To me it sort of comes through as the backup plans of backup plans to him- if Alan had come would he have concerned himself with Flynn at all? This god is helpful, this god sticks to his words and thinks things through…oh god the absolute angst potential in that. (Again keep in mind that Clus hatred is for a Flynn who didn’t go through 20 years of  philosophy lessons).
This is all me just theorizing anyway, my own way at picking through legacy trying to understand it. 🤷‍♀️ Clu is such a fascinating character that you really have to feel bad for, and again it’s a little concerning? Because you forget how much bad stuff he really did just because they fumbled Flynn SO hard. The Kevin Flynn who made the grid does not feel like the same Kevin Flynn who broke into ENCOM with his buddies one night and I don’t know how to explain it.
The Fire Between Falling Stars
Fandom: Voltron: Legendary Defender Rating: Explicit Relationships: Sheith (Shiro/Keith) Chapters: 4/? * Words: 19,701 * Status: IN PROGRESS
Lion Knight Keith Kogane is not all he seems. And neither is the prophecy that guides him. For seven years, he has quietly served and protected King Takashi Shirogane of Stellan from afar, keeping to the shadows to ensure the safety of the regent he's been tasked to protect. But when Keith's best friend Matt and his father Sam Holt disappear, Keith is forced out of the shadows.
In the midst of betrayals and unexpected alliances, a deeper danger gathers on the horizon, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. As Keith's investigations lead him toward the truth - and the disaster to come - he will be forced to decide: Protect his secrets. Or protect his king.
King Shirogane stood and adjusted the ceremonial cape over Keith's shoulder. "You need to relax. You look like you're headed to an execution instead of a ceremony in your honor." "Yes, Your Majesty." "Shiro." "What?" Keith stared at King Shirogane, his mouth gaping in shock. The king didn't meet his stare but instead stepped back to study his work, his gaze traveling slowly up Keith's body. When his eyes reached Keith's chest, he stepped in again to adjust a couple of buckles at his shoulder. Keith's chest burned hotter as Shirogane's voice caressed his ear. "You are now part of the Eight, which earns you the right to call me by my preferred name when we are in private situations."
Little Girls (From the Annie [2014] Original Movie Soundtrack) - Cameron Diaz
I found this through TikTok cause so many people use it there lol
AU:
Nightmare was probably the best known Hero in the city, working for the official Hero's headquaters. And he wasn't just the best known, but also the best in general, which meant a lot of work for him. Nightmare - or Dream as his real name was - always worked. The hero association barely gave him a break, his friends always told him they'd work him to death.
But who else was fit to fight against the Blood God, making sure him and his syndicate wouldn't destroy the city. It was on his shoulder to make sure they wouldn't get any data about The End Portal. The portal that would lead you somewhere unknown, a place that is supposed to give you great power.
No one alive ever went through and came back, but they had old books and letters, notes of people who apparently went through and talked about a dragon like beast. They told of cities unreachable and a dark and evil energy.
The heros had to make sure the villains wouldn't ever get there and steal said power. It was to protect everyone and therefore Dream was fine with working himself to death.
Until the day the syndicate had managed to get into the archievs. Not even Dream was allowed into the deeper, more secret part. So when he got there he was shocked to see what the villains had found. Blue prints of a prison to hold villains and heroes?! One known to weaken them and steal their powers and there was a cell for everyone.
There was one for Dream, the most secure one. Blood God had shown him, told him that those heroes were the real monsters who were after the dark power. He had told him to join them, to help them reach their goal. But Dream declined, he was naive enough to believe that there must be an explanation.
Blood God had stared at him in silence before they all fled with the notes. Dream didn't care. When Quackity and Sam came up to him to yell at him he had questioned them. They weren't happy about it, said Dream shouldn't worry. But he did, cause there were cells for not only him but his friends, even for the youngest who had just started training!
Apparently too many questions were ask and Sam - The Warden - started attacking him. They made explosives go off, framing Dream for letting the Syndicate in and attacking the association. Every hero got ordered to hunt him down, to get them to the prison alive.
Dream fled, he had to fight against people he had called his friends, people he had trained and people he had fought side by side. Now they were against him. Heavily injured Dream was able to escape in a storm, using the chaos.
He had knowledge of where the syndicate usually was found, rumors of where to find them when you needed them to do something for you. So Dream went there, bleeding, in pain from the wounds and the betrayal. In a back alley he fell to his knees, wondering if he had gotten wrong information.
But then a shadow fell down on him and in front of him stood the Blood God, pig skull staring down at him. In that moment Dream realized how little his life was worth, that he had given it to the hero association and now he had nothing left, he was a nobody.
With tears in his eyes he started to beg, to plead his greatest enemy to end his life. He didn't want to live in a world where the people he had fought for all his life to be the evil ones. How could he? What was left to live for?
But instead of a sword at his throat, Dream felt a big cloak wrap around him, sheltering him from the rain. In front of him knelt Blood God, his red eyes visible through the holes in the skull. He told him that instead of giving up he should use this desperation - this rage - to help the syndicate.
Dream was asked to join them, a gloved hand held out for him. With only a bit of hesitation Dream accepted, holding the hand that pulled him up back on his feet. Blood God - or Technoblade how Dream would learn in the future - helped the injured man walk.
And just like that the greatest Hero and the greatest Villain joined forces to bring down the real evil.
c!Endersmile and the seven stages of grief
major character death, grieving process, depression, illness/infection, one graphic mention of torture
Stage 1: Shock.
Dream does not allow himself to think about the moment when Sam’s sword plunges through Ranboo’s chest, carving its way through his apprentice’s heart. Yes, he acknowledges it: Punz, who he’s fighting, must notice the tremor in his hand, and the sudden fever he fights with. But Dream does not focus on the body crumpling behind him or the cry of Techno from in front of him or the feeling of something shattering deep inside him. Instead, he nods at Punz, vaults onto a horse, and he runs.
Stage 2: Denial.
“Ran—” Dream’s voice stutters in the emptiness of their base.
Punz is nowhere to be found: Dream urges him to constantly make himself scarce, uneasy about the two of them being discovered together, while their horses are being given a clean by Techno and the Syndicate. Dream is half asleep himself, bare-foot and maskless, blinking grit out of his eyes and Ranboo’s name out of his mouth as he slides to alertness.
Ranboo is not here. On a very rational day, he knows this.
Deeper down, at night, however…
Dream’s hands fist round themselves, looking for the fabric of a cloak he knows is gone. Ranboo is not here, he tells his hands, and they don’t believe him — they reach out for the chair his friend had always sat in, searching for proof, searching for confirmation of Ranboo’s existence.
They find dust. A crumpled cushion, from where Ranboo had moved in a hurry.
Ranboo is not here. And yet the room is suffocating him. Dream sucks in a stilted breath through broken teeth and closes his eyes.
He’ll pretend for a second. Just for a second, he’ll give himself the luxury of imagining a simpler happy ending.
Stage 3: Anger.
He meets Sam in prison — in his home — and finds with a horrified disgust that the feeling dominating him is not fear, or contempt, or betrayal. It’s not even bitter resignation.
It’s anger. White hot, blistering. Dream blinks, and swears he can see the scars on his limbs from the lava and burning obsidian burst open, weep their rage and hatred down his skin. He blinks again, vision billowy in the seeping heat, and the scars become scars again, and Ranboo is still gone.
Rage is new. He hasn’t felt it in a while. He doesn’t quite know what to do with it, either: wearing it as a second layer is stifling, oppressive, but he’s viciously proud of how well he hides it. Sam and him talk of morality and life and death and prison, while Dream’s heart sings a song of blood and anger and grief he can’t quite feel.
When he slams a blade through Sam’s eye and leaves him to walk back through the prison himself, Dream thinks of Ranboo, and how close they’d been to escaping before Sam had killed them.
Sam does not speak when he comes back. Not until he gets to the nether portal, standing there timidly, bright eyes fixed on him. They’d been friends, once, Dream remembers fleetingly, friends, maybe even family.
“I’m sorry about Ranboo,” Sam murmurs, as particles pull him away, “if you’d listened to me—”
Dream lunges for him, but Sam is gone before he can scream.
Stage 4: Bargaining
“You’ll give me him back,” Dream demands, asks, pleads.
XD stares at him. A blossoming shower of iridescent stars tumble from the sky behind It.
Dream knows how gods work, by now. Making deals with one is worse than shaking hands with the devil. But he hasn’t slept in four days and Punz is off in his tower and he’s jittery, anxious, newly escaped from Quackity and Sam’s newest trap and feeling almost entirely alone in the world.
And when he’d told Techno that he didn’t sleep, it hadn’t been entirely true. He sleeps, sometimes. But he doesn’t ever dream. This is the first dream he’s had in months and months and Dream’s not even sure it’s real: all he can see is the god in front of him and the showering of stars and the moon, that glistens and gloats untouched far above them both.
You’re the one that can bring back the dead, XD tells him. The words scorch Dream’s throat. Or have you forgotten already?
Dream swallows. “I can’t.” It comes as bitter as poison. “I can’t do it. I don’t— I mean, it won’t work. I don’t know why it won’t work. I don’t know how.”
XD turns as a comet whizzes by with a howl. Dream is bowled away by his own insignificance: how many times, he thinks, will he have to die to understand this place?
You aren’t supposed to be here. It’s time to send you back.
“Wait,” Dream blurts out, “wait, I need—”
He wakes up in a clatter of armour and with a fever Punz is coaxing him through. Infection in one of his wounds, apparently. Dream doesn’t say, but he remembers Quackity driving his shears into that wound. Peeling the skin off like dried glue. Laughing at the shrieks.
“You were mumbling pretty badly back then,” Punz says, voice shrewd. His gloved hand cards through his sweat-soaked hair and Dream’s eyelids flutter. “You okay?”
Dream does not reply. He just closes his eyes, and prays for sleep.
Stage 5: Depression.
Sleep comes. He doesn’t move from his bed for days. At one point he thinks he sees Ranboo standing on one block in the middle of a raging ocean, but he’s lost track in this sickness of what is real and what is not.
Stage 6: Acceptance.
Dream takes his first steps on trembling legs after his fever of nine nights, just as snow begins to tumble lazily from the sky.
He gets Punz to sleep under that open sky with him that night, even though his friend complains and grouches about the cold and the wet. Dream rolls his eyes, jabs a bony elbow into his ribs and makes Punz yelp in pain. They’re not friends, not exactly, but it helps soothe the ache in the hollow of Dream’s chest.
Ranboo had listened once when Dream had explained the stars to him, mad on coffee he hated and preparing for the finale of the disk war, and so Dream explains them to Punz now. It’s different, obviously: Punz quips where Ranboo had been quiet, Punz is silent where Ranboo had asked questions. It’s okay, though: Dream is different too. He talks until his voice goes hoarse and Punz forces his hands around a mug of hot chocolate, and then they drift off to sleep together.
The morning brings winter flowers and sneezing pitifully in the snow-turned-slush. When they show up at the Syndicate, Techno cackles at them.
Dream places new flowers on Ranboo’s grave and for the first time breathes easy.
Stage 6.5: Hope.
When Dream breathes for the last time, and wakes up in an iridescent friend with a blonde boy squawking, the first thought in his head is of an Enderchild beaming uncertainly at him.
He asks Tommy if he knows any half-Enderians, and Tommy shrugs, spitting out a bone from the chicken he’d been eating. They’ve set up camp near a river, and Tommy is good company: Dream just remembers something, someone, and feels lonely.
“Don’t think so,” Tommy says, “but we can look. Lotta world here. There’s got to be one somewhere.”
Dream shoots him a soft grateful smile, and begins to map.
Stage 7: Processing.
When he finds Ranboo, Dream does not cry.
But he does hug him, tightly. In this world, he has nothing to fear and nothing to hide, no armour to drown in and no plans to self destruct. He breathes, deep, and the familiar scent of End-particles and earth fills his head.
“I waited for you.” Ranboo’s voice is muffled and small. “I waited for you for so long. You didn’t come.”
Dream’s hands tighten around the cloak. “I know,” he replies, “I’m— I should’ve come. You have every right to be mad at me.”
But Ranboo only pulls him closer, scoffing, and Dream feels warm again.
So I watched La Locker Room Aux Folles. Twice. Have an essay (cause how else is anyone supposed to process their feelings? talking to people? sounds fake but ok)
asafahfal😭🥰szdgd❤️sdfahl🙏🕺zdfgbzdgzgzdb🎉gs😭😭😭
THE FUCKING BUILD-UP TO THE MOMENT. THE EXECUTION OF IT. JUST THE EVERYTHING!!
So we have the first half of the episode, where tensions build through Isaac's ambiguous and continuing dismissal of Colin. Not knowing what it means allows for fear, and time amplifies that fear by letting each dubious action resonate, louder and louder. Now, we all know what this show is, and we think we know who Isaac is, so the fear may be reluctant to take root. Nevertheless it nags and nags, until you remember the little hints that this could go the wrong way: Isaac's homophobic comment in episode 3, Nate's betrayal of the team after feeling cheated, and doubt comes creeping in. You begin to wonder: could they really go there?
And then the loudest action hits: Isaac's offence at the use of a slur. From the moment he steps into the stands we know that his actions will force a crystallisation of his intent. Schrödinger's box is about to be opened; the midpoint is upon us.
Time for the locker room.
First: a long silence. Brilliant. I was on the edge of my seat. It gives us even more time and space to process, and infer, to feel every emotion fuelling the room: confusion, disappointment, worry, concern - fear. Who's gonna say something, and what will it be?
The unevenly balanced scales are threatening to topple, because out of everyone there, only three people truly know what's up. Given Isaac's behaviour up till now, we are only able to fully trust two of them to appreciate the real stakes at hand. Everyone is circling the bait, desperate to pull it down and find out what's on the other side, but only two people understand that the ramifications of the bite would run so much deeper.
We circle closer. Sam reveals the word that was used, and we're locked in on the subject. Not incidentally, not humorously as before, but seriously, directly, and with investment. This won't just be brushed off, or joked away. What happens now will be remembered, and what happens now holds weight.
The camera is on Colin. Everyone else is talking, but the camera is on Colin, because for all the time he's spent keeping his head down, the tide has finally gone out, and it has caught him between the seabed and the shallow surface. Any careless move, and he could break its surface tension.
Here, we reach turning point 1.
Isaac reveals the true source of his frustration, and the great tension hanging over the first half of the episode is resolved: he feels protective, and fears his previous inaction might have inadvertently caused hurt. Relief. One crisis is averted; he's not homophobic.
But this revelation soon begs another: what change has brought on this seemingly disproportionate reaction all of a sudden? Well, Isaac is too upset to give that answer. He leaves the befuddled team with two clues though: his best friend, Colin, and a hypothetical: "what if one of us is gay?"
The bait the team has been circling is now within touching distance. They go for Colin, "Do you know what that was about?", and he, paralysed by the proximity of the surface, dares only shake his head. Stay down. So the team follow their one lead and finally bite down.
Only, they choose the wrong hook.
They don't have all the pieces, so once they've laid the puzzle and find that one is missing, they fill the hole with the most immediately available, and also the wrong, person. Nevertheless their confusion is cleared, and the imminent danger is averted. Colin has the room to breathe easy again as the tide rolls back in, the surface floating further and further up, farther and farther away. But every tension is not resolved; the team's understanding is still not aligned with reality.
And Colin has seen through to the other side now, closer than he ever has before. Breaking through suddenly seems like a real possibility. Not just a distant fantasy, but something that could actually be done. Was almost done. What's more, the pieces have already been aligned, and all the team is talking about now is supporting the person in question. All he would have to do is step up and fill that precariously bridged gap, before the surface disappears from view again.
And he does. Of course he does, because this is his team.
Turning point 2 comes to pass, yet we don't get to see it happen. Because the words aren't important, it's about what comes after. And, (de)fences down for the first time, the only thing that invades that raw, newly exposed area of honesty is acceptance. It is so mundane, and so so significant, because what it means is support. The heavy weight Colin has carried along all alone for so long lands softly as a feather, because the hands that have hereunto been weighing it down further, unknowingly, can instead turn into helping ones.
And that is not the where this ends. Because again, the point was not the words, but neither is it the way they were received. We linger in this moment of acceptance, because the support is what matters. Now, my personal instinct in any such moment of anticipated sincerity is to cower away, because "having feelings about something obvious is cringe - how dare you care about something that isn't new and shiny and untainted by familiarity". So seeing Colin just stand there, letting the moment wash over him and allowing the others to fully see and continue seeing him, felt very impactful to me.
Another thing I love about the aftermath is that no obligations are pushed on Colin. He doesn't have to explain himself, he isn't scrutinised or made to apologise for having stayed closeted. He isn't mentioned to the media in regards to the incident.
Instead, the team and coaches close ranks around him. They take responsibility for managing their own actions and reactions, they handle Isaac and the press conference. Colin is allowed to set the pace, and the destination, and it is treated as a given that the team's role is to simply follow along and work together until they get there. He never has to defend himself, only explain his reasoning to his closest friend so that they can continue to understand each other. Because while yes, this is about Colin, Colin is also about the team. What matters is that they support each other.
The only thing I didn't quite connect with, and in fact made me feel slightly alienated (entirely personal - this is not a criticism of the episode, just a private reflection), was the "I was 99% sure you'd be fine with it, but the 1% scared the shit out of me" line. The possibility of rejection is obviously a pitch black shadow hanging over a huge number of queer people when coming out, and I am very fortunate to have never been in that position myself. But there are also more ways than flat out rejection that coming out can change a relationship - homophobia comes in many shapes and sizes.
I personally prefer stories that adress the less direct version, where there isn't an expectation of open hostility to coming out per se, but where ignorance and a lack of understanding might mean that any soft, honest, and vulnerable truths uncovered will end up squashed.
A great example of this is George's coming out arc in Feel Good (on Netflix), where the central issue isn't overt homophobia, but rather a pervasive careless and insincere attitude among her friends and family regarding anything emotional. It does result in homophobia, but not necessarily of the archetypal bombastic variety. I really enjoy exploring those nuances, of how prejudice feeds and feeds off of emotional cues and attitudes.
But I realise that this is not a story about an analogous situation to that, and that there is only so much nuance you can fit in a short scene at the end of an episode focusing on queer acceptance rather than the preceding fear of exclusion. And I can see that that line is an effective summary that's easily digestible to a wide audience, even if it does paint over some nuances. A single story cannot delve into every beat exactly according to your own wish list, unless you write it yourself - which is why I read, write and love fanfic. :)
(Oh and btw, Nate's arc was also great, mirroring Colin's in how he is finally letting the facade drop, acting on what he really values and cares about rather than trying to fit in and belong on other people's terms.)
Overall: an amazing episode with some really great moments - many of them all time favourites for me. Wonderful handling of the subject matter and masterful balancing of the tension with the resolution. They knew what they were doing, that's for sure. This is officially one of my favourite episodes in any series ever.
I'm so glad I found this show.
PART 4 | A WHOLE NEW WORLD MASTERLIST
 Steve’s mouth opened at the betrayal of a man who has been at the service of the crown since he was born. Before he knew it he was stripped of his jacket that bore the symbol of Midgard, his eyes widening as it now appeared on Pierce along with his late father’s crown. He sat down on the throne, smirking at Steve as he did to rub his betrayal in deeper.
Finally, after all these years of advising those he felt were beneath him he’s done it. Pierce was the King, not the rightful one but the right one in his mind, and it was time that big changes came to Midgard.
Steve’s blue eyes burned with fire, his blood teeming with such unadulterated rage that he threw his arms up, elbowing some of the guards that held him back, shrugging the rest off. He ran towards Pierce to physically remove him from the throne he dared to sit upon.
Two rows of men lined up in front of their new King, shields drawn as they tried to block the former prince from getting through. It shouldn’t have been a struggle but it was. Fueled by adrenaline and anger, Steve clawed through them nearly making it towards Pierce.
The old man jumped back in his seat, scared yet impressed by Steve’s strength. It was tempting to wish for a trait such as that but Pierce knew better. As guards piled themselves over the prince to restrain him, Pierce turned his head towards Bucky, showing no emotion in his face or voice as he demanded, “For my second wish, I wish to be the most powerful sorcerer in the world!”
The thick muzzle muffled the heavy breath he exhaled. Bucky didn’t want to do this but he had no choice. With a reluctant wave of his hand he granted the wish and Pierce was lifted in a cloud of purple smoke, feeling a surge of electricity flowing through his body. In his hand appeared a staff, a gun metal grey that reflected in the light. At the top was a large skull with eight tentacles wrapping around the pole. A sinister smile stretched across his weather face, anxious to test his new powers and the former prince and his friend were the perfect subjects.
Pierce raised the staff in the air and suddenly Steve and Sam were lifted up, floating but unable to move within their magical grasp. He squeezed his fists slowly and the two men felt the constriction around them, hissing and grunting the harder and harder it became to breathe.
Y/N heard the struggling gasps for breath, watched as Pierce was delighted with himself, as he and all of his men watched him crush the life from Sam and Steve. She watched Bucky stand there, a man with so much power and yet he looked so small, visibly bothered by the wish he granted.
There was no plan when she ran out, hoping she could grab a sword at best from one of the guards and strike Pierce. It was a fool’s plan. She barely made it before Rumlow grabbed her, wrapping his thick forearm around her neck and she began to choke. Bucky lifted his head, tears brimming his eyes as he knew there was nothing he could do to stop this.
If there was one thing that Pierce admired about Y/N it was her tenacity. He grew tired of torturing Steve and Sam, waving the staff and throwing them against the wall. An invisible force pulled her from Rumlow’s grasp and she too was raised in the air.
“A funny thing about your princess…” His words were aimed at Steve who groaned in pain. “She’s nothing but a street rat playing pretend.”
With another wave of the staff her clothes were swapped for something she was more accustomed to, a tattered shirt, dirty sweatpants and sneakers that were falling apart.
Pierce turned to Rumlow, smirking, “And what do we do with rats in the palace?”
“Exterminate them,” Rumlow replied, a sickening grin spreading across his face that didn’t hide his twisted excitement.
Pierce’s fist squeezed again and Y/N cried out in pain, as if the tentacles on his staff were coiled around her; the constriction was overwhelming. Her eyes shut tight as she tried to fight it but she knew there was no way to beat magic.
“Stop!” Bucky pleaded softly through the thick muzzle. A tear rolled down his cheek, his heart shattering in his chest, cursing himself because he was powerless to intervene. He shut his eyes, unable to bear the sight of watching the light in hers go out but they snapped open a moment later as he felt the sharp sting of Pierce backhanding him.
“Don’t you dare talk back to me slave, I own you!” The words were hot on Pierce’s tongue like fire.
The pressure was closing in and Y/N could feel the crack of her ribs as she struggled to breathe. She wished Bucky could help but she knew his limitations and suddenly she smiled. It hurt to laugh, excruciating pain racked through her body but she did it still, taunting Pierce with the few breaths she had left.
Words faintly squeezed out from her throat, “You might control the genie…”  she hissed painfully, “but you’ll never be as powerful as he is.” Pierce whipped his head in her direction. “With his powers he could snap his fingers and wipe out half of the universe.”
Pierce begins to ponder her thoughts. This genie gave him his power, perhaps he could take it all away, unless–
“Y/N no!” Bucky cried, not understanding why she would even put the thought in Pierce’s head. With these powers this monster will be unstoppable.
“Slave, for my third wish, I wish to become an all-powerful genie!”
Bucky closed his eyes, not wanting to witness the terrible idea come to life. A quick wave of his hand and Pierce is lifted high into the air in a cloud of black smoke, the colors of the stones flashing like lightning. His hold on Y/N dissipated and she dropped to the ground, slamming down hard on her knees.
Pierce cackled wildly as he felt his new powers surge through him. “The universe is mine to command, to control!” He raised his hands feeling the absolute power they hold, too distracted to notice a new gauntlet that appeared on the ground.
Y/N spotted it, limping and pushing through the pain to grab the gauntlet. “Not so fast, Pierce. Aren’t you forgetting something?” He looked down at her, confused to see an onyx gauntlet in her hands. “You wanted to be a genie, you got it, and everything that goes with it!”
Metal plates began to cover Pierce’s arm like shackles and he panicked. He tried to use his powers to stop them but it was useless. The orange stone glowed brightly as a force was pulling him towards the gauntlet. Rumlow began to back away but Pierce grabbed him by the ankle, both men screaming as they were sucked into the glowing gem.
Bucky’s muzzle vanished and he ran to Y/N who held the gauntlet protectively against her, not wanting it to slip into the wrong hands. Without their leader the remaining guards let go of Prince Steve and Sam, and tried to make a run for it but an army came rushing in. Armed with spears, a group of strong women with shaved heads blocked the traitors from leaving. By their side King T’Challa of Wakanda.
The King extended his hands to Prince Steve and Sam to help them up. “I received word that you might need help.”
“Seems like I’m always thanking you for something.” Steve smiled, hugging T’Challa. His army, the Dora Milaje, made quick work of restraining Pierce’s men and taking them out.
There was a feeling of relief when the room was alone again, with Prince Steve, Sam and Y/N checking to see if they were all okay. Sam felt a pain in his cheekbone, the tender skin feeling like it was on fire as he grimaced. Steve had scrapes littered across his face and a trail of freshly dried blood that ran down from his hairline. Y/N knew that shock was the only thing keeping her on her feet, that and Bucky who she leaned against.
“And what are we gonna do with that?” Sam asked, pointing at the gauntlet she clutched tightly.
Bucky held out his hand, wordlessly asking her to hand him the gauntlet and trusting he would know what to do. As one hand held the dark object the other waved above it and suddenly the gauntlet began to shrink until it was no longer visible to the naked eye. Bucky brought his palm up to his mouth and blew the invisible gauntlet away. Smaller than a grain of sand, his breath carried it to the largest desert across the world, buried deep and never to be found again.
Steve lifted the bronze gauntlet from the floor where Pierce once stood and handed it back to Bucky. He thanked Steve and stared at the man he knew would be a great King someday, turning his gaze back towards Y/N his lips pulled into a straight smile, knowing she would be a wonderful Queen.
“You have one wish left,” he said, passing the gauntlet to her. “You can be a princess again.”
Y/N took the gauntlet, chewing on her bottom lip as she stared down at the glowing gems, each one a tempting option that could make her dreams come true. She took a step closer to Steve and missed the way Bucky’s head hung low.
“Steve, I’m sorry for lying to you. You deserve love, true love, with someone... who would move mountains for you.” She put the glove on and turned back to Bucky who was ready to grant her wish. “Bucky, I wish for your freedom.”
His head picked up in shock. The gauntlet lifted off her arm and hovered in the air, and out from it came a swirling glow of white light that circled Bucky. The metal plates that once wrapped around his arm suddenly unlocked and the gauntlet fell to the ground with a clank. It was dull and unpolished and the light that once shined through the stones went out.
Bucky stared at the flesh of his arm in awe, tears filling his eyes as he cried, “I-I’m free. I’m–” He lifted his head to Y/N’s smiling face and threw his arms around her. “Thank you.” His words came out in a choked cry in her ear, enthusiastically squeezing his arms around her before she winced in pain. Apologies spilled from his lips as quickly as the tears from his eyes.
Her own eyes welled up, not wanting to let him go. Bucky was free and she knew this was the last time she was going to see him. Goodbye was going to be harder than she thought. Tears were flowing freely when they pulled apart and Y/N sniffled a few times. She smiled through them despite the ache in her heart when she said, “There’s a whole new world out there for you to see.”
Bucky lifted his left hand towards her face, sighing as he felt the overwhelming softness of her skin. His thumb delicately brushed away a tear from her cheek, his mouth stretched into a hopeful smile. “There is, and I would be honored if you were by my side to see it.”
Her mouth opened in shock and stretched to a wide smile as she nodded, feeling overwhelmed with joy. Bucky wasn’t a genie anymore but he could still make her wish come true. He closed the distance between them, molding his lips to Y/N’s with renewed passion for the life she granted him.
They pulled apart but didn’t let go over each other, with Bucky wrapping his arm around her. He could still feel his heart pounding in his chest in celebration. From the corner of his eye he saw Steve and Sam, their bodies turned away for privacy, awkward smiles stretched across their faces.
“I’m sorry, Your Majesty,” Bucky said, getting his attention, “I suppose your search for a princess will have to continue.”
Though his body felt beaten and broken Steve was happy to feel relief in his mind. There was confidence in his smile as he answered, “No, I think I’m done looking for princesses.” He faced Sam, a silent understanding between them and he extended his hand out. Sam laced his fingers with Steve’s and a soft smile bloomed on his face, as bright as a spring flower.
It wasn’t as much of a shock to Y/N when she thought about it. There has always been something between the two of them, she just didn’t see it until now.
“Steve!”
The sound of his mother’s voice made him drop Sam’s hand in a panic, only to rush to her side to be sure she was alright. He was relieved to see that no harm had come to her. Phil and Melinda stood behind Queen Sarah, each of them giving a small nod to Sam. He returned the gesture, happy to know his gut was still reliable and that some people were still loyal to the crown.
Queen Sarah wrapped her frail arms around Steve and he was careful not to squeeze her too much. She looked up and frowned at his injuries. “Oh Stevie…”
“I’m alright mom, I promise. As long as you’re okay,” he said, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
She pressed her palm to his cheek, letting it linger for a moment before she stepped forward. Sam, Y/N and Bucky bowed their heads before her. Y/N’s eyes screwed tight as she felt a shooting pain in her side from the position she was in.
“Please, there is no need for that.” There was kindness in her voice, and warmth in her smile that eased their nerves.
The Queen wanted to thank each of them for everything they have done to protect Midgard starting with Sam, the boy who grew up in the castle to become the incredible man he is today. She moved onto Y/N and Bucky, welcoming the latter as an official citizen of Midgard.
When she turned back to Steve she saw he and Sam had joined hands again and Steve took a deep breath, “Mother I–”
“I can’t believe it took you two this long.” She smiled softly at them and Steve’s defenses dropped, finally realizing his mother never wanted him to find a princess but to find love and he has.
Bucky stares at Y/N with a loving gaze in his eyes. She returns a smile but winces as she touches her bruised cheek and he can’t help but lean in to press a kiss against her temple.
“Hey Y/N,” his voice is as soft as his lips on her tender skin. She hummed softly. “I still don’t know what Indiana Jones is.”
A bubble of laughter escaped her lips and Y/N’s tightened her hand with Bucky’s. “I can’t wait to show you.”
Prime Dean gives Alt John the tools to unlock the truth and decide for himself if he will hunt
Tumblr media
Original run context: John's feelings of betrayal
In the original #SPNprime, John was not allowed to fight for or defend himself until it was already too late. This made the wound of Mary's death much, much deeper than it would have otherwise been.
Unlike with Sam keeping the truth from Jess out of shame, Mary's keeping the truth from John may stem from incredible fear, watching Azazel kill him in The Beginning.
(It's perhaps more akin to Dean symbolically blinding Lisa and Ben to the truth to keep them safe than how Sam was with Jess.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But the in The Song Remains the Same, John (temporarily) learns the truth, and he is (rightfully) frustrated by having been kept in the dark. He feels intense betrayal. He feels like a child.
JOHN: Monsters. Monsters? MARY: Yes. JOHN: Monsters are real. MARY: I'm sorry, I didn't know how— JOHN: And you fight them? All of you? SAM: Yeah. JOHN: How long? MARY: All my life. John, just try to understand— DEAN: She didn't exactly have a choice— JOHN: Shut up, all of you! Look, not another word, or so help me, I will turn this car around! Silence falls.
/// LATER ///
Tumblr media
JOHN: What? Y'all might have treated me like a fool, but I am not useless. I can draw a damn— (JOHN picks up the paper from next to a large knife.)—whatever it is—a sigil.
///
Original run context: Mary continued to hunt near/during the beginning of her marriage?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox, we learn that it could've been Mary who created much of the tension in their marriage by potentially stepping out on John to hunt, calling into question if the fight shown between them in Dark Side of the Moon.
Tumblr media
MARY: "No, John. We're not having this conversation again. Time to think? About what? You have two boys at home." DEAN: "I remember this. Mom and dad were fighting, and then he moved out for a couple of days." MARY: "Fine. Then don't. There's nothing more to talk about."
Now we wonder: Was this fight even John's fault to begin with? The stereotype of "angry husband" might lull you into thinking so, but it's equally possible that it was Mary that originated the fight--Mary who had a long, canon-supported history of lying. She's even the one shutting down the conversation here!
Mary would probably rather John think she's unfaithful than risk John being dragged into hunting, and she'd probably pivot to supporting their kids as an excuse to smooth things over. (Just as Cas would rather Dean assume anything so long as he's not dragged into the dangerous world of angelic Civil War).
Alternatively, the fight may have even been part of the normal ebb-and-flow of a marriage. It may have been that the fight looked a LOT bigger through the eyes of a sensitive four-year-old.
(A couple of days ain't even that long, but boy it sure does feel big when you're a kid. But just because their marriage wasn't "perfect" doesn't mean it wasn't good, and the Dean-Sam conversation completely misses on that front.)
//
One of the things post-season 12 in #SPNprime does so beautifully is calls into question everything we know about Mary, including the cartoonish idea of John as the root of all evil.
Mary's lies are given rich complexity, as is Dean's memory of her.
Everything in Dark Side of the Moon, from the idea of "Heaven" as the "perfect place you grow up" to being simplistically at peace with your siblings/"littermates" in the ideal childhood home forever is given more complexity by the narrative unfridging of Mary.
(It's why the gate to Heaven is always associated with a playground. "There's no place like home," is literal in SPN. Heaven can even be seen as the idealization of childhood, as sharing the same history.)
///
Dean helps John because Dean was also "locked out" during critical periods in his life, prevented from Danger "for his own good"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dean feels this pain acutely in season 6, when Samuel Campbell, his brother Sam, and Bobby Singer keep him out of the larger hunting plot in order to "keep him at peace."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite their good intentions, this denied him the right to choose for himself if he'd meet The Fight head on.
Cas, too, does this with the angelic Civil War, with Kelly Kline, general "angel business," and The Empty deal, and Dean feels that as unintended rejection.
He feels, like John, coddled. Like a child. Not getting the chance to be an equal comrade or partner in the fight.
///
Tumblr media
Here, prime Dean is giving John the key to discover the truth about monsters and Henry's Men of Letters heritage.
Certainly John has a lot of emotional baggage and childhood abandonment trauma to work through, but at least this time he'll have more agency ahead of time, and he'll get to choose which path to prepare for rather than having the world of monsters thrust upon him in the midst of a grief-spiral.
Dean has handed that power of Choice back to John.
Perhaps prime Dean too is wounded from being kept in the dark. Perhaps he longs for a world were he's known about Cas's The Empty deal instead of, like John, being blindsided and struck dumb by grief.
Entry number four, for @ailesswhumptober
Day four: betrayal
Sam always knew Cas and Dean had a profound bond, how could he not after the angel had told him so himself years ago. That fact was one of the many reasons why Sam was so surprised when Castiel had asked him out during the brief period he was human, barely a year ago.
Sam was hesitant to answer at first, hesitant to agree; he didn't believe Cas would choose Sam, the boy with the demon blood, over his brother, the righteous man. Still, Cas was persistent in asking Sam out almost daily coupled with 'courting gifts' as the angel called them.
After a few weeks of Cas' persistence and Dean's loud encouragement Sam finally agreed to go out with the angel and the look of glee that broke out on Cas' face made it already worth it in Sam's opinion.
The two of them started dating officially not long after their fourth date and Sam could honestly say that he was truly happy with Cas, content even and he believed the angel felt the same way.
The angel at least seemed to do so and the loving way he treated Sam never wavered even once which made the scene he had come home to all the more painful and confusing.
Sam had left the bunker not even an hour ago, going to get everyone some food and the whole time he felt happy, almost giddy at the prospect of spending some quality time with his boyfriend and his brother without some apocalyptic problem hanging over their heads.
So with a pep in his step, he walked down the stairs and went into the kitchen, listening for Cas and Dean, and shrugged when he couldn't hear anything in the bunker.
He wanted to call out to them, to tell them the food was there but he couldn't get himself to do so, something was stopping him from opening his mouth it seemed like. Frowning slightly he walked further into the bunker, searching for the two men he was supposed to have dinner with, a weird feeling growing in his gut when the bunker stayed silent.
After a few minutes of walking around almost aimlessly, he finally heard noises coming from deeper into the bunker, the war room to be exact. With a small relieved smile, he walked toward the room only to stop in his tracks when he saw what the two of them were doing.
Sam's smile slipped off his face and he could feel his heart starting to pound in his chest; he couldn't believe what he was seeing, there, leaning against the table, were Castiel and Dean, their lips pressed together in a heated kiss while they were obviously working up to something more than making out.
A mixture of disbelief, betrayal, and heartbreak ran through Sam as he took in the scene in front of him with tears welling up in his eyes. His throat tightened, making it hard to breathe as he continued to watch the two people he loved betray him in such a fashion. He didn't understand how Castiel, how Dean, could do this to him, why they would do this to him.
The room seemed to start spinning around him as Dean removed Castiel's trenchcoat and Sam couldn't watch this anymore, he didn't want them to get away with this either.
So, with trembling hands he wiped away the tears before he straightened his back, trying to look as composed as he possibly could. When he was satisfied enough he cleared his throat loudly, almost reveling in the way both Cas and Dean jumped and turned toward him with wide eyes.
"Am I interrupting something?" he said then, his voice gravelly and almost cold. His eyes jumped between the two people in front of him, both were looking at him like a deer caught in headlights before Dean suddenly all but jumped away from Castiel.
"Sammy I swear this isn't-," Dean started but Sam interrupted him, not in the mood for lame excuses.
"How long?" he asked, staring right at his brother, the person he had trusted most in the world.
"Not long." Dean answered right as Castiel said,
"Six months."
Sam tensed at hearing Castiel's rough voice and rolled his shoulders in an attempt to get rid of the building tension before he said, his voice still faux cold but trembling softly,
"So either six months isn't long for you or you just lied to me."
"Sam, I'm sorry, I just-" Dean stopped himself from continuing and carded a hand through his hair before he continued, his voice desperate,
"I didn't want to do any of this you know? It's just- I- I'm in love with him, okay? I fucking am and after a while, I just couldn't-"
Dean took a steadying breath before his mouth opened again but Sam stopped listening, he didn't want to hear anymore. Dean loved Castiel and Castiel obviously had feelings for Dean as well and if Sam was honest with himself that just made it worse. He felt fresh tears stream down his face and saw Dean's lips move and form words but Sam still didn't hear anything.
With lowered eyes he then looked at Castiel, ignoring his brother in the process, and stared straight into steely blue eyes. He had always hated seeing Castiel sad, it always hurt seeing someone he loved in pain and he cursed himself that he felt bad at seeing the angel hurt even in this situation.
Castiel looked almost as heartbroken as Sam felt and he didn't know what to make of that so he just waited, staring at Castiel with tears in his eyes until he finally decided to ask just one question interrupting Dean's still ongoing monologue,
"Do you love him?" The words felt like ash on his tongue and almost pained him physically but he knew he needed to know, he needed to know if the angel had lied to him for the duration of their relationship or not.
"Yes." Castiel answered, his voice rough with suppressed tears and barely concealed shame but Sam couldn't bring himself to care. That one word shattered Sam's already crumbling world around him and the relieved twinkle he saw in Dean's eye didn't help much either.
The two men in front of him didn't look at each other though, their eyes were firmly planted on Sam, but Sam didn't speak any further, he just shook his head and laughed to himself, a small hateful sound.
"I should have known, why would you take me if Dean is willing, right?" Sam said, his voice quiet and bitter but he wasn't done just yet.
"I'm just the abomination that was there until he was finally available." Sam continued speaking but the words were directed more at himself than at the two men standing in front of him.
"No, Sam-," Castiel started but Sam held up his hand, stopping him from continuing whatever he was trying to say.
"Don't." Sam said while carding a hand through his hair. Unbridled anger was now painfully mixing with the sadness and he really had to try not to snap.
"Sammy please." Dean tried but Sam just held up his hand once more, unable to listen to either of their excuses for longer.
"Screw you. Both of you." He spit out before he turned on the spot, ignoring Dean and Castiel calling out to him. With fast steps he walked through the bunker and to the room he previously shared with the angel, taking a deep breath to try and calm himself down when he stepped inside. Then, with still shaking hands, he grabbed the duffel that was always ready in case of a hunt and walked back out just as quickly as he walked inside.
The whole process didn't take longer than five minutes, way less time than the conversation in the war room had taken, he's sure but it still felt way too long; he needed to get out as soon as possible or he might do something he might regret.
The two men he was leaving behind or rather running away from if he was being honest with himself didn't seem to want to let him leave that easily though, both standing in front of the stairs with worried faces.
"Sammy please just listen alright? We can work this out, I promise." Dean sounded desperate and if Sam didn't have so much control over himself, he would have punched him for it. Dean didn't have the right to promise that, to even assume Sam wanted to work it out.
"It's Sam and no we can't. Move." Sam's voice was leveled, the mix of anger and sadness concealed as much as possible but the tick in his jaw and the tension in his shoulders was still clearly visible.
"Sam, please. Let us make it right." Castiel said then, his voice pleading but somewhat resigned, they all knew Sam wasn't staying it seemed.
"Fuck you. Move." Sam couldn't hold back the anger anymore, not fully at least, and he could see both Castiel and Dean flinch slightly at his tone.
Reluctantly they stepped aside after a minute of silence and Sam swiftly pushed past them, being extra careful not to touch either of them on his way out. He thought he heard sniffles and soft voices as the door closed behind him but he didn't care enough to turn around, he didn't want to see either of them again.
So, with quick steps and a heavy heart, he walked down the long road, away from the bunker and the two people he called family.
and they’re divorced we spent so long begging for divorced PCs for C3 I am so fucking glad we get to see it here!
hands down Sam is a great person for this dynamic and I am so hyped to see how he and Aabria play off each other
same with Nydas, I am kinda obsessed with the vibe that these PCs are giving off of “extremely busy extremely good at their jobs high up people in a powerful city, on the eve of the biggest event of seven years”
the whole Sphinx drama is incredible
the kites are such a cool idea! also aww a loaf. cute.
a surplus of ether? hmmmm. we are getting into the Magic Theory (TM) over here I am Interested
Cerrit is definitely in a different movie to everyone else. Travis is killing the noir vibe. I love it
also an eisfuura detective that’s really fun
the description of the whole thing being dispelled/obliterated is really cool! I am living for Brennan’s descriptions here
and finally, Marisha!
brumestone jewellery I am loving the description of all the opulence of Patia. also the nepotism
man Brennan is really making the point of these are the people who get shit done, this is where the power lies really well here
sorry the oracles are taking a break????? surely that’s not fucking good!
I love the general disdain everyone has for people attempting the Raven Queen’s ritual
I also love how they’re all casually namedropping vespin fucking chloras as though he’s just..... some dude. which I guess he is right now!
oh also I like how everyone’s storylines are tying together! I initially assumed we would have a bunch of strangers but this makes way more sense and is much more fun
a party! exclusive magic VIP seating! hoddmedods or whatever the fuck! chandeliers and caviar, the world can’t touch us here!
Zerxus’ son is staying with Nydas’ family? wtf this gets more and more intriguing
lol bringing along Bolo is the most fancy rich important person move, great work Loquacious. also Brennan is a delight
“Ghor Dranas is attributed to the Lord of the Hells, a specific phrasing during his defeat. "Put me where you will, I will gather my shadows to me.” oh my god that is an incredible line. I had not considered the phrase ‘gathering of shadows’ in any other context I love that
Loquacious inspiring Laerryn and the perfume smells like their wedding. excuse me who gave you permission to do this to me.
oh cool the piece of metal is the bow of a solar. made of extraplanar gold. and it was destroyed by something older and deeper than a spell. this is vespin summoning a goddamn betrayer to destroy it fucking hell. this is fine.
PURVON SUUL!!!!!!!
absolutely a joy to watch Sam, Travis and Marisha lose their entire shit as he walks in
Aabria knows what’s up, “I’ll tell you later”
“is he wearing armour” “... no” I am loving this so much
I love how Dean Hollow’s thing of “well this god was one of us before, so we can join them too”. Like the context to the mages’ hubris is so well done and it makes sense!
“And Purvon Suul walks away” need a live Liam cam for this, how’s he reacting to this signature move of apparently all champions of the Raven Queen
the hoddmedod 1 has thoughts and 2 is thinking ghor dranas everything is super fine and ok
Loq taking back what he said with gift of gab... what a spell I love it
okay okay what everyone has been talking about: Cerrit’s 31 on investigation and Brennan’s absolutely genius description of invisibility
I am not gonna lie both the way he’s described invisibility working from a physics standpoint and the delivery of “You have been trained to look for these things. They always move in twos.” will be in my head for a very long time
a stitched together man wtf
“You will never reach the Wildmother’s embrace in time” sorry WHAT. what is happening. excuse me.
and Vespin fucking Chloras is behind the mirror???
holy shit what an episode
okay last thoughts: so much lore, but it’s delivered in such a good way! like I didn’t feel the story stalling or anything it was actually such a fast paced episode! I adored the world building, the feel of Avalir and of the circle of brass as a whole, it’s done so well. and the characters are extremely intriguing
also I know Brennan is amazing and I loved his worldbuilding in eg Unsleeping City, but holy shit has he blown it out of the water with the tension and the pace and the worldbuilding and the threads of mystery and feel of something going wrong here. masterful tension building I adore it
I am so excited this may become my favourite mini-series. cannot wait to see where this goes
Fragmented by Ilana Yurkiewicz
There’s an unspoken assumption when we go to see a doctor: the doctor knows our medical story and is making decisions based on that story. But reality frequently falls short. Medical records vanish when we switch doctors. Critical details of life-saving treatment plans get lost in muddled electronic charts. The doctors we see change according to specialty, hospital shifts, or an insurer’s whims. Physician Ilana Yurkiewicz calls this phenomenon fragmentation, and, she argues, it’s the central failure of health care today.
In this gripping narrative from medicine’s front lines, Yurkiewicz reveals how a system that doesn’t talk to itself puts insupportable burdens on physicians, patients, and caregivers, forcing them to heroic lengths to hold the pieces together―barely. The stories she tells are at once harrowing and commonplace. The system is hanging by a thread, and we need better solutions. Yurkiewicz issues a clear-eyed call for change, naming concrete reforms doctors and policymakers can make, and empowering patients and their loved ones to advocate for themselves in the meantime.
Behold the Monster by Jillian Lauren
He was sitting right across the table...and he would have killed her if he could. Jillian Lauren had no idea what she was getting into when she wrote her first letter to prolific serial killer Samuel Little. All she knew was her research had led her to believe he was guilty of many more murders than the three for which he had been convicted. While the two exchanged dozens of letters and embarked on hundreds of hours of interviews, Lauren gained the trust of a monster. After maintaining his innocence for decades, Little confessed to the murders of ninety-three women, often drawing his victims in haunting detail as he spoke. How could one man evade justice, manipulating the system for more than four decades? As the FBI, the DOJ, the LAPD, and countless law enforcement officials across the country worked to connect their cold cases with the confessions, Lauren's coverage of the investigations and obsession with Little's victims only escalated.
Lauren delivers the harrowing report of her unusual relationship with a psychopath--but this is more than a deep dive into the actions of Samuel Little. Lauren's riveting and emotional accounts reveal the women who were lost to cold files, giving Little's victims a chance to have their stories heard for the first time.
