Sooo... What if you did some fluffy angst with a pro-hero Bakugo (and his hearing problems of course) with a pro-hero reader who has REALLY bad hearing problems but doesn't tell anyone and tries really hard to hide it. Ahhhh. I feel like this is hard to explain but since like, he has hearing problems of whatever he'd pick up on the hints that you're hearing is shit and what not. I hope you get what I'm asking for 😭🙏
Ok so I hope this is what you’re asking for, also I just want to put a disclaimer out there for everybody that I am not somebody who experiences hearing loss so feel free to let me know if anything written is offensive, incorrect, etc.

Birds of a Feather
Tumblr media
Summary: look at the request silly’s😋😋
Pairings: hard of hearing!prohero!katsuki bakugou x deaf!gn!reader
Warnings: Angst, language, Bakugou & reader reads lips and knows ASL, Bakugou wears hearing aids, crying, low self esteem lowkey, Obsession on both ends, L word, kinda ooc Bakugou
A/N: I wanted to make this longer but like I kinda got writers block halfway thru😭😭
(:̲̅:̲̅:̲̅[̲̅:♡:]̲̅:̲̅:̲̅:̲̅)
Being deaf was hard on you, always the target of bullies in school. Pitied by everyone else, talking slow and loud thinking it will help you hear them. Hey dumb fuck, I can’t hear you. You wanted to scream at everybody, then one day through tinder you met Katsuki Bakugou.
Katsuki was the most relatable person you probably ever met. Angry, blunt, hard of hearing, overall an introvert. You swiped left on his profile, you suddenly felt obsessed with him. Quickly you realized he was pro-hero Dynamight.
You and Bakugou talked for what felt like an eternity, an eternity of bliss. Eventually Katsuki asked you out on a date. You met at a cafe, apparently his favorite.
It was pretty easy for you to pass as “normal”, if you focused on his lips and watched their movements you could tell what he was saying. He doesn’t have to know.
What you didn’t know, Katsuki was as obsessed with you as you were him. He felt drawn to you, that how he wound up stalking your social media accounts. Through that stalking, he quickly realized what most dumb men likely wouldn’t, you were deaf. He figured you wanted to tell him on your own, so he pretended he didn’t know better.
Then, you two started dating and suddenly katsuki had to pretend he didn’t know better for months. You slipped up a lot of times and made it obvious but he didn’t care, he loves you.
It started getting hard to pretend he didn’t notice, considering you recently moved in with him. Katsuki concocted a plan in his head to tell you he knew so you could both move forward. You both felt the tension between you.
Sitting down for dinner one day, you and katsuki were both enjoying the meal you had cooked for the two of you. You sat directly across each other at the table. Katsuki made sure to turn his hearing aid on, he had a habit of turning it off.
You went back and forth talking about each other’s days. “-shitty fucking Deku, thinks he’s better than me.” You laughed at your boyfriend’s aggressive behavior.
Bakugou felt relieved at your delight, he took a deep breath and spoke, “look, I wanna talk to you about somethin’ but I don’t want you to get upset.”
You frowned slightly, “hey, it’s ok. Go ahead and say it.”
Katsuki let out a breath, “we’ve been together for months now. I’ve made it clear with you from the beginning about the fact that I need a hearing aid, there ain’t no judgment. That’s why I wanted you to tell me on your own terms, but anyway I know that you’re hard of hearing or deaf or whatever.”
You were stunned. Your big hunk of a boyfriend, the number two pro-hero was rambling. Even more so, he knew your very well kept secret.
You let out a sigh of relief, “I’m deaf. How did you-“
“You lip read. Also I’ve known since we first met,” Katsuki admitted.
You started sobbing and not because you were sad, but because you were glad to have it out in the opening between you two.
You chuckled and signed, I love you.
Katsuki signed back, I love you too.
“You could have told me, dumb ass.” His words were playful with truth behind them.
“I know it’s just-“ Katsuki must have heard how shaky your voice was.
Once more, he cut you off, “hey, you don’t have to talk about it right now. We’ll talk about it another day.”
You couldn’t help but lunge yourself into your boyfriend’s arms. Katsuki securely wrapped you in his arms.
“You’re the only person who has ever understood me,” you admitted into his chest.
“I’d kill for you,” he wasn’t sure why he said, but you both knew it was true.
You chuckled, “just keep holding me.”
And he did.

Sign
Bakugo X Reader (platonic to romantic?)
Sign language. It was not something many people you knew could speak. You had taken it upon yourself to learn after coming across a deaf person and feeling helpless when trying to communicate with them (it was in the middle of the subway and you didn’t have pen and paper on you). It ended up being way more useful than you thought and you even taught your siblings so you all could communicate without most people knowing what you were saying.
This also ended up being helpful in hero work. Because you knew sign your hand signal communication with your team was amazing (though they only knew the signs for the mission and couldn’t speak sign). Now your friends and classmates picked up on this during your years at U.A. Most were so busy with hero training or just didn’t have the patience and desire to learn. But one student, though he didn’t tell you. He took the time to learn sign. He learned because he wanted to be the best and he could see this would help him toward that goal (he also wanted to know what you were talking about with your siblings, he was sure you were talking about him and he wanted to know why).
What nobody knew was just how important sign would be one day. In the fateful day it happened. Gillian’s were attacking left and right you, Deku, Kirishima, Bakugo, and some others were all working to fight them off. Bakugo told you guys to get back as he sent one last massive blast finishing off the villains. This was the biggest blast he’d ever sent and in the area you were fighting echo was horrible. The sound of the blast echoed for what felt like an eternity. When the ruble settled and the sound had died down everyone ran to check on Bakugo, but when they got there they were shocked to find him holding his head.
Blood was dripping from one ear and all he could hear was ringing. You guys all tried calling out to him with no response. He could see your lips moving but couldn’t hear a thing. You decided to try signing, though you were sure he wouldn’t know what you were saying. To your surprise he responded signing that he needed help as he couldn’t hear anything other than a loud ringing.
After getting help his ears ended up being okay and the hearing loss temporary, but you all saw the importance of knowing sign. It also gave you a glimpse of what could be the future of Bakugo isn’t more careful.
He ended up getting some ear plugs to help with the noise and everyone took sign classes just in case. Battles can have loud noise and so Bakugo wasn’t the only one at risk, his quirk just made him more likely.
You ended up talking to him and asking him about learning sign. You told him why you learned sign and you two bonded over it. (Slowly drifting into love)
**Sorry though if this in the shower, not proofread. Just a quick Drabble a because I’m learning sign.**

《BAKUGO! M! READER X BLUE LOCK》
《CROSS POSTED TO WATTPAD》
《WARNINGS!: Mentions of death, kind of crack fic, curse words, kind of explicit words, slight angst, lazy writing, crossover MHA x Blue Lock》
"SHUT UP YOU DAMN LOSERR!!"
Of course. Early to bed and early to rise makes (Name) a massive bitch.
You'd think that for a guy with such a good reputation among his fellow football players would have a good personality, wouldn't you?
No, turns out they were only talking about his skills. In real life, his personality is worse then trash. With anger issues, a superiority complex, and an inferiority complex, he also has a foul mouth that goes with his foul attitude.
"Who are you call a loser, PUNK?!" And Raichi, an equally hot headed football geek.
No, he's not a pokemon.
With how hot headed the both of them are, they're constantly butting head in disagreements, sometimes even getting into physical fights because of such disagreements.
Everyone is annoyed by it.
"YOU HEARD ME, SHIT HEAD! OPEN UP YOUR DAMN EARS FOR ONCE AND MAYBE YOU WON'T BE DEAF!" (Name) shouted incredibly loud, making everyone wince as he glared at Raichi fiercely, his red eyes almost glowing from rage.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP, HUNK OF JUNK! YOU AIN'T WORTH SHIT!" Raichi fired back, showing off his sharp teeth with a scowl while (Name) scoffed, everyone in the room with them sighing annoyed.
"WORTH MORE THAN YOU, OBVIOUSLY!" (Name) snarled like a dog, eyes enlarged with veins showing while Yoichi sweated in the back, trying to hold him back before (Name) threw him back effortlessly. Damn. RIP Yoichi, you will be missed. But some were eyeing his muscle with faint blushes.
"SAY THAT TO MY FACE, BITCH!-" Pokémon bitch attempted to shout, before a someone got annoyed and interrupted.
The girls were fighting.
"OH MY GOD WE GET IT YOU'RE BOTH GAY SHUT UP!" Bachira shouted, quickly quieting everyone down as they stared at him in silent horror, some even praying for him as they waited for the blondes to explode.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP, DUNCE FACE!-" The girls are back at it.
Tumblr media
"Hey, Bakubro! How's everyone treating you?" Kirishima asked, glad that his calls are actually getting through.
(Name) actually scored enough goals to get his phone back, so he took the chance to call back anyone who was blowing up his notifications (his mom, shitty hair, dunce face, racoon eyes, soy sauce, and Deku, who he blocked before,) and of course the best comes first.
So he called Shitty hair back first.
"I don't care about them. How's Dunce face and Racoon eyes? Are they stealing my shit again?" He asked, getting straight to the point as he finished his work sheet, noticing how everyone slightly quieted down to hear the call.
"... Haha, no! In fact, I haven't seen them act this good in your room before!" He said, noticeably not talking in the beginning, as if he was staring at someone or someone was talking to him. He calls bullshit.
"They're stealing my protein powder, aren't they?" He said, voice bland and face stoic, just waiting for the other to confirm what he said as the other in the room sent glances to each other, sometimes even sneaking a peek at his face.
"Yeah man I'm sorry. But! Good news, I got the job! So I'll be able to pay you back when you get back! No worries! Oh, and Deku was trying to call you too! He wanted to asked what it was like to be with the best football teens in one place!" The red head chuckled, listening to the pink haired girl and the charge bolt boy thank him profusely before waving them off, waiting for the blonde boy to speak.
"Tell Deku that I ain't telling him shit. And tell the old hag that when I get back, I want some spicy tofu! Spicy enough it makes my taste buds bleed!" (Name) shouted, grinning his evil grin like he always does when he's hyped about something, which makes the red haired boy on the other end laugh wildly. (Name) can't wait until he gets home and is able to eat the spicy tofu his mom makes. The shit they call spicy tofu here isn't even spicy, it barely even burns.
(Everyone else is scared of what his definition of spicy is. The spicy tofu they give him looks like death.)
"Yeah, okay! Oh- sorry, your mom's calling us, I'm gonna hafta hang up!" Kirishima said, loud enough that those close enough heard him clearly.
"Kay." A loose reply.
"See ya, Bakubro!" Affection through words, Kirishima loves telling him that.
"Kay." Another loose reply. Man, he is so tempted to just hang up.
"Say it back!" Kirishima whined, making (Name) feel as though he was able to just see the pout and teary eyes he gets when he's joking around dramatically.
"No." Then he hung up.
Tumblr media
"Hey, hot head, let's play 21 questions!" Bachira asked (more like demanded- but (Name) is the same, if not more stubborn-) dribbling a ball as he lightly treaded on the grass, playing with (Name) to pass time until one of them got annoyed.
"Fuck no." Sharp reply. (Name) didn't want this creepy 'monster' boy to know anything important about him. The way he kept talking about a 'monster' being in him and telling him what to do and who to talk to? Creepy. It's a miracle that he's even talking to him now.
"Aw, why not?!" Bitch boy Bachira whined, gaining a fake pout while (Name) scoffed, stealing the ball and running quickly, making a goal before Bachira got the the ball, continuing their 'conversation.'
"'Cause I don't fuckin' like you." Truer words have never been spoken. Whenn he dies, he wants 'my only regret is not flipping more people off' on his tombstone.
"Aw:(" (Name) wondered how the FUCK he said that out loud. Fuck, sometimes he wanted to put that boy in full body cast.
"Shut yo goofy ass up." Amazing. He's barely been talking to this fuck face for 5 minutes and he already wants to throw him under a bus.
"Anyway, let me go first! What's the color of your nipples."
"..."
"What's the color of your nipples."
"I'm fucking done with you. Get the fUCK AWAY FROM ME YOU FREAK-"
Tumblr media
"Hey, brat! You know better then to call me while I'm at work! I already know to make spicy tofu when I get home!-" Mitsuki said, answering her ringing phone with a rough voice as she began to change her clothes, looking at the ones her dear husband made himself with admiration.
"Excuse me, are you Bakugo (Name)'s guardian?" A sudden cold voice interrupted her, making her pause before looking at her phone, making sure it was (Name)'s number.
"Uh- Yeah? Listen, if he's in trouble just tell me where he is-" Suddenly feeling unsettled, she felt like something bad was about to happen. But that always happens with (Name). Sometimes he gets too mad and just beats someone up for being arrogant or something. Maybe he was in jail or something.
"I'm sorry to tell you this, but your son has been involved stabbing incident. He's in surgery right now.. We don't think he's going to survive." The cold voice said, and Mitsuki felt her heart drop. That couldn't be right. No, her little boy was always careful when out and about. Even if he was tired, he made sure that he knew where he was going and what to avoid. This had to be some elaborate prank his friends thought of.
"... Huh? Hey, if this is a joke, it's not very funny. Put him on the phone, let me talk to him." She demanded, putting her clothes back on before she stormed out, trying to find her husband frantically.
"This isn't a joke. He's at Musutafu hospital, Shizuoka Prefecture. I imagine you would want to spend his last moments together." Then a click and it went quiet.
"MASARU!"
Tumblr media
"This morning the young football prodigy, Bakugo (Name) was discovered to have died at a local hospital in Musutafu, in Shizuoka Prefecture after being a victim to a stabbing by an unknown stalker. Witnesses and CCTV footage have said and shown that he was walking when a man wearing a black hoodie and sweats ran up with a knife and stabbed him in the stomach. Officials still do not understand why the man did this. In later news, we'll talk about the wake and funeral of this young star. Thoughts and prayers to his parents."

"Kacchan stop!" Deku yelled.
"(N/n) stop you're not making this matter any better!" Uraraka whined.
"(Y/n) please just stop, it's not worth it" Todoroki said.
"C'mon man, this is so not cool!" Kirishima yelled. The two most explosive students in the class, who also happened to be friends since junior high, were currently having an argument and the fight had gotten so bad that not even All Might wanted to interfere so he had sent Iida to go get Aizawa to cancel their quirks while the other students were trying to calm them down before that happened. The entire argument between the two started when you and Todoroki got paired for an assignment. Bakugo had made a snarky comment that caused a fight to break out between you two. At first it was simple barks of insults back and forth but the quirk fight had started when Bakugo set off an explosion at Todokri.
"Why do you have to be such a narcissistic, angry, little prick! Can't you just accept that someone might be more powerful than you!" You yelled as lightning struck near Bakugo. Storm cloud forming above you all. Thunder clapped but the rain never came.
"No one is better than me! You're just jealous like everyone else!" Bakugo yelled aiming an explosion at you. Todoroki, Uraraka, and Deku all winced when they saw you rub your ear. Bakugo's explosions had the tendency to cause some ear ringing pain.
"You're just a scared, angry, angsty, narcissistic, annoying, little Pomeranian!" You yelled walking up to Bakugo
"Well at least I'm not a stupid, small, promiscuous, little bitch!" Bakugo barked at you.
"I am not promiscuous!"
"I'm not angsty!"
"Go to hell!" You yelled shoving Bakugo back.
"No you!" Bakugo yelled shoving you as well. Then time slowed down.
"Fuck you!" Both of you yelled in unison. Bakugo had gotten so mad that he went to punch you. You were quick to grab his fist in time but you were both so mad that your quirks went off at the same time. Bakugo had caused a huge explosion followed by lighting coming down in between the two of you as thunder clapped above you. Bakugo fell back to the ground but the force of his explosion caused you to go flying.
"(Y/n)!" Todoroki yelled. He shot out a slide of ice before you could crash into the side of the school. You slid down the ice rolling onto the ground a little more gracefully than what would've happened if Todoroki didn't move fast enough.
"Bakugo!" Aizawa yelled furiously he had made it too late standing behind him was Mic and Iida.
"(Y/n)!" The class ran to your unconscious body followed by All Might. "Bakugo office now!" Aizawa yelled. The ashy blonde growled in annoyance as he left the scene. Aizawa, Mic, and Iida quickly made their way over to the class.
"(Y/n) wake up, are you okay?" Uraraka said. Todoroki pulled the your head onto his lap. "Their bleeding from their head and ears" He said pulling his hand back seeing it stained red.
"Iida go get Recovery girl, Kirishima go get some towels and water" Aizawa commanded. The two students nodded their heads leaving to go do as told.
"It feels like her shoulder is fractured" Deku said.
"You would know" Todoroki said adjusting you in his lap. He put his cold hand against the back of your head in attempts to cool you down when he pulled his hand away it was stained red. He ignored it wiping his hand off on his suit before pressing the back of his cold hand against your forehead.
"What happened?" Mic asked.
"Kacchan made a snarky comment about (Y/n) and Todoroki working together. They got annoyed and tried to argue, he got mad, they got mad. They yelled at each other for not even 5 minutes, Kacchan set of an explosion at Todoroki causing (Y/n) to get even more mad so they tried to make him stop with some lighting and then a quirk fight broke out worse than when Kacchan and I fought and you basically know the rest" Deku said. Kirishima came back with three water bottle and five towels and not too far behind him was Iida with Recovery Girl.
"Here" Kirishima said handing Uraraka the water bottles and towel. The girl soaked one of the towels with a water bottle and Todoroki sat you up enough for Uraraka to clean the back of your head.
"What are their injuries?" Recovery girl asked.
"Their shoulder is fractured and they have a cut somewhere in the back of her head" All Might said. Recovery girl leans forward kissing your Injured shoulder first and then the top of your head avoiding the blood Uraraka was cleaning. Todoroki set you back down on his lap using a towel to clean his hands. Everyone waited around patiently as you started to wake up.
"(N/n) oh thank god" Uraraka said pulling you in for a hug while everyone sighed in relief.
"How do you feel sweetie?" Recovery girl asked as Todokri handed you a water bottle. You nodded to him in gratitude eyes glued to the ground as you drank from the water slowly.
"(Y/n), how do you feel?" Todoroki asked quietly. You still didn't answer as you rubbed your face keeping your eyes on the ground. The class all shared looks of confusion as Todoroki set his hand on your shoulder making you look at him.
"(Y/n) are you okay?" He asked softly. You gave him a look of confusion.
"What?" You said so quietly Todoroki almost didn't hear you.
"You okay (L/n)?" Todoroki asked in a normal tone calling you by your last name instead.
"Sho I can't hear you speak up" You said once again so quietly Todoroki could barely hear you. The class all shared a look of worry.
"Mic" Recovery Girl said. Mic nodded his head stepping forward.
"Everyone back up" Aizawa said. Everyone did as told as Mic crouched down to your height holding his hand out for you. You took his hand as he helped you up before backing up some.
"(Y/n), can you hear me!" Mic yelled without his quirk first. You just gave him a look of confusion. Mic sighed heavily taking a few steps back before turning on his directional speaker. The class all simultaneously plugged their ears. Mic hesitated before taking a deep breath and yelling your name with his quirk.
You shielded yourself since the sound waves were pushing you back but you made no move to shield your ears. Gears started to turn though. When Mic stopped you brought your hand to your ear snapping twice, Nothing. You gulped nervously before making a small thunderstorm in your hand. The class could hear the rain fall onto your hand along with the thunder the clouds made but you heard nothing. You eyes were glossy as you brought a hand over your mouth shielding the sob that left your lips.
Todoroki, Deku, and Uraraka were automatically at your side. Todoroki wrapped his arms around you as you collapsed in his grip Todoroki gently helping you to the ground.
"Bakugo caused them to go deaf" Mina said.
"That's impossible, his quirk can't be that powerful right, I mean how come Midoriya, Todoroki, and Uraraka have perfect hearing and they've experienced the same thing (Y/n) did" Kirishima said.
"That was one of the biggest explosions Bakugo's ever made, not to mention that mixed with their own thunder and lighting, I'm just shocked that Bakugo didn't go deaf either" Iida said.
"Kacchan does have bad hearing, nothing too bad, his parents thinks it's the main reason he yells a lot" Deku said refusing to take his eyes off your crying figure.
"If they at least could hear something I could heal them but if their ear drum is hurt entirely there's nothing I can do" Recovery girl said sadly.
"They're burst, you can tell by the way they reacted to Yamada's quirk" Aizawa said.
"Instead of plugging their ears they shielded themself from the sound waves" Mic said his tone a lot softer than usual. The class stayed silent as they watched you in Todoroki's arms, you had stopped crying but refused to move.
"Head back to class, Todoroki take them to Recovery Girl's office, I'm going to call their parents" Aizawa said before leaving. Uraraka caught your attention making a hand gesture for you to stand up. You shook your head resting your head on Todoroki's shoulder. The boy placed one hand under your legs the other on your back as he scooped you up bridal style. Deku and Uraraka both stood in front of you two Tsuyu and Iida right behind them. You refused to look at any of them keeping your eyes glued to your hands.
"Head back to class you guys, I'll carry them to the office" Todokri said. The group nodded as they left with their classmates and All Might.
"C'mon dear" Recovery Girl said. Her and Mic took the lead to her office Todoroki trailing behind with you in his arms.
~~~
"You son of a bitch I'm gonna kill you!" Todoroki yelled shooting up from where he was sitting when Bakugo walked into class. Deku and Iida both held him back Aizawa automatically canceling his quirk. No one had ever seen Todoroki show so much emotion before. "
What the fuck is your problem icy hot, I don't see you being suspended for a week" Bakugo growled going to his seat. "He's not the only one that has a problem with you-you jerk" Uraraka said.
"Yeah" Tsuyu said.
"To be honest man pretty much all of us are mad at you right now" Kaminari said sheepishly.
"Yeah, that was kind of a dick move and you don't even feel guilty" Sero said.
"Not manly at all bro" Kirishima said.
"What the hell did I do, not the first time (N/n) and I got into a fight" Bakugo said annoyed as he sunk down in his seat.
"You mean you don't know?" Mina asked.
Bakugo gave a look of annoyance. "Will someone tell me what the fuck is wrong?" He asked annoyed. Aizawa stepped up to his desk.
"Todoroki I suggest you calm down before you get in trouble too" He said. Todoroki glared at him before doing as told, Iida and Deku finally let go of him. Aizawa sighed looking at Bakugo. "(L/n) is deaf now because of your fight" Aizawa said.
Bakugo looked at him in disbelief. "Wh-What?" Bakugo asked. His voice cracked catching everyone, even Todoroki off guard.
"We believe the mixture of your explosion and their thunder and lightning caused their eardrums to burst. Either way the fight between the two of you caused them to be deaf, and there's no way to fix it" Aizawa said. Before Bakugo could say another word there was a knock at the door. Aizawa walked over opening it seeing Mic and Midnight with you.
Todoroki's breath caught in his through when he saw you. You were wearing his dark blue hoodie with black shorts along with your signature (f/c) high top sneakers. Your(H/c) hair was mainly in your face and you had a bag in your hands while Mic held your backpack. Your eyes were glued to your shoes while Mic and Midnight did the talking for you.
"Did anything happened when you took them to Recovery Girl's office?"  Deku asked.
"Not really, we just got them cleaned up along with me since I was blood stained, Mic did had to convince them to let me come back to class though since they refused to let go of me" Todoroki said.
"How'd he convince them?" Tsuyu asked.
"Texting" Todoroki shrugged. They watched as Aizawa went to his desk grabbing a few papers before handing them to Mic. He then looked over at the group of students.
"You five, come here" He said.
"Us?" Iida, Uraraka, Todoroki, Tsuyu, and Deku asked in unison.
"Yeah" Aizawa said. The group of five walked to the door before going out into the hallway. Tsuyu and Uraraka automatically enveloped you in a hug.
"They're not going to be here for a while so they wanted to say bye to you guys" Midnight said.
"Are they going home?" Iida asked. Midnight nodded her head. When the girls pulled apart you looked up at Iida. You held your arms out Iida stepping forward giving you a hug. It was followed by Deku and then Todoroki. You held onto the icy hot boy tightly feeling as if you were going to cry again. When you pulled apart Todoroki kisses the top of your head. You kept an arm wrapped around Todoroki as you pulled out your phone typing quickly before showing the group.
Tell Kiri, Mina, Jirou, Sero, & Momo that I ❤️ them
They all nodded their heads giving you one more hug before going back into the classroom.
"Kirishima" Iida said causing the group in the back of the classroom to stop talking. "(Y/n) would like to inform you, Ashido, Sero, Kaminari, Jirou, and Yayorozu that they love you all deeply" Iida said.
"Are they leaving?" They asked worriedly.
"Only for a small while, they're going to be keeping up with their studies from home, Midnight is going to be driving them home" Aizawa said walking back in. "(Y/n) said that they're going to miss you guys" Aizawa said. "Also they're disappointed that they never got to hear Koda speak and never will" Aizawa said to lighten the mood. The class mute turned bright pink as a few of them chuckled. "I should mention that Mic has offered to teach ASL classes after school, He's opening it up to the entire school since the news of their incident reached Class 1B and 1C and a few students there wish to learn as well along with some of (Y/n)'s friends in the other years" Aizawa said.
"Why ASL and not JSL?" Jirou asked.
"(Y/n)'s mom used to be a teacher back in America and she learned ASL since some of her students were deaf due to their quirks or had gone through accidents similar to (Y/n)" Aizawa said. That caused eyes to land on Bakugo.
"How does he know sign language?" Deku asked.
"I don't remember if he's almost deaf or just has bad hearing but when he started to lose his hearing in Highschool he taught himself ASL and JSL, he wears a hearing aid often you just have to pay close attention" Aizawa answered. The class took notice of how he wasn't his usual grumpy sleepy self, he was answering questions sincerely and didn't complain. "Any more questions?" Aizawa asked.
"Do you know how long they'll be gone?" Mina asked.
"At least two weeks, but they have to learn ASL, JSL, and how to read lips before they come back and who knows how long that's going to take" Aizawa said.
"Are they mad?" Bakugo asked. His voice was soft when he spoke, his classmates could tell he was holding back tears, absolutely the exact opposite of Katsuki Bakugo. All Might and Deku are some of the only people at UA that have seen him cry and he wasn't about to let his classmates be on that list.
"As far as I know they're not mad but then again they haven't expressed any actually emotions" Aizawa said. The class fell silent after than. Todoroki made his way back to his seat along with the others that were standing around talking to their groups. "Take your your work for Ectoplasm's class, the rest of the school day will return to normal and Bakugo" Aizawa said. Bakugo looked up at the teacher. "After today keep an eye on your computer, we'll be emailing you your school assignments so you can keep up in class but other than that the same punishment as last time remains, no leaving the dorms under any costs" Aizawa said. The ashy blonde nodded his head as the teacher left leaving the class alone to wait for Ectoplasm.
"Sorry" Bakugo said quietly.
"Hmm?" Deku asked.
"I'm talking to Ic- Todoroki, sorry for making your partner deaf" Bakugo said not looking at the son of Endeavor.
"You shouldn't be apologizing to me" Todoroki said.
"Can't apologize to (Y/n), they won't hear me, doubt they'll even talk to me after this" Bakugo said. The class stayed silent after that, Todoroki just quietly started doodling in the margin of his notes some thunder clouds and snowflakes, he was worried for you then he realized something. He didn't bother correcting Bakugo when he said that you were his partner.
"I really don't understand what girls see in this movie" You said eyes glued to the TV a look of confusion on your face.
"This is coming from you" Shoto chuckled causing you to roll your eyes and smack him.
"My mom says that this movie is popular with the ladies back in America but I don't understand it"
It was almost midnight and you were with Shoto in his room watching a few movies your mom and brought back from America. You were currently watching The Notebook trying to understand why so many people feel In love with the movie.
"This is almost as bad as Inception" You told him
"Or Matrix" Shoto added. You shivered as a cold breeze went down your spine. You grabbed your blanket you had brought from your own room wrapping yourself up in it. "Cold?" Shoto asked.
"It's fine, I just feel the coldness from your right side radiating onto me" You joked. "
Here" He said sitting up slipping off his blue hoodie leaving him in his white t-shirt. He handed it to you causing you to smile as you grabbed it.
"Thanks Sho", Shoto smiled as the movie ended. He got up switching out the disks.
"Madagascar?" He asked holding up the box. You nodded, Shoto put the disk into the DVD player starting the movie. He went to sit back in his spot until he stopped. "Scoot over like that you can sit next to my warm side" He said. You smiled doing as told. Shoto smiles back sitting next to you in the bed. He leans back against his head board.
After a few days in the dorms he made some adjustments. His bed was right across from his desk and he had a TV mounted on the wall with two shelves next to it. One had his DVD player and the other a few movies he brought from home. When the movie started to play You grabbed the now empty bowl of popcorn setting it on the dresser he had next to his bed. When you went to sit back Shoto had pulled you closer to him wrapping his arm around your waist.
"Feeling warmer?" He asked.
"Much, thanks Sho" You smiled. Shoto smiled back leaning forward kissing the top of your head. The two of proceeded to watch the movie until you fell asleep. Shoto turned off the TV looking at the your sleeping figure in his arms. Your head laid on his chest one of your hands in front of you lazily wrapped around him the other was playing with his hair. Shoto's arm was wrapped around your waist and he was very tempted to just pull you on top of him all together, actually he just did it. He scooted more towards the center of the bed pulling you so you were sleeping on top of him.
"Gnight princess" Shoto said kissing the top of your head. "I love you" He said fully knowing that you didn't hear him. He was thankful for that because he didn't want to risk your friendship going off the rails just because he had confessed his love for his first crush and best friend. Shoto wrapped both his arms around you before going to sleep himself.
"Todoroki's in his happy place again" Deku teased.
"Huh?" Shoto said confused.
"We can tell you're thinking about (N/n) whenever you zone out and start drawing snowflakes and clouds" Uraraka said gesturing to his ASL papers that were now covered in little doodles of thunderclouds and snowflakes, not to mention he'd written your name a few times. Shoto quickly shut his notebook his face flushing pink.
"I can't help it, it's been almost 2 months, shouldn't they have come back by now" Todoroki said.
"They couldn't have missed that much" Kirishima said. Deku proceeded to list of all the things you had missed from the work studies up to the school festival you were about to miss if you didn't come back soon. If it weren't for the incident you were going to join Neijire Hado in her work studies the bubbly 3rd year taking a liking to the formerly bubbly 1st year.
"I feel bad for them, even if they do come to our performance they won't be able to hear us" Kaminari said.
"Yeah, they really adored music" Sero said.
That's right, almost everything that you loved in the world you couldn't do anymore. You couldn't listen to music anymore, you now needs to watch movies with captioning, and you can't hear your friends talk anymore. That's when Shoto realized he can't read to you anymore. You had a love for books, but due to the fact that you can't always focus you mainly listen to audio books or what you had found to be your favorite thing in the world, have Shoto read you the books. If you both ever had free time together and you had found a new book you liked you'd have Shoto read you the book while you would do your homework assignments or draw for him. They thought of it as a fair trade especially since you were in the top of your class you flew through all the homework assignments. But now, Shoto wouldn't be able to read to you, you wouldn't be able to hear him.
"Todoroki you okay?" Deku asked.
"Huh oh, I was just think about what Kaminari said. In our free time if (Y/n) found a book they were interested in they'd have me read it to them while they would do our school work or even just make a drawing for me" Shoto smiles flipping a few pages in his notebook pulling out a sketch of himself and his mom. "They made that for me last time, I had told them I was visiting my mom and so they drew this for me while I read them some book their mom had brought back from America, it was about Greek mythology I believe" Shoto said smiling down at the drawing, he had shown it to his mom and siblings they adored it. They all desperately wanted to meet you.
"Wow Todoroki I never realized how much you love them" Deku said.
"Huh?" Shoto said.
"Well man c'mon how many of your notes have snowflakes and Thunderclouds drawn in them" Kirishima said.
"Not to mention you're going through the trouble of learning both ASL and JSL" Uraraka added.
"Also you spend a lot of time zoned out thinking about them, we can tell cause you look like your concentrating really hard but your face slowly starts to go pink and sometimes you have a small smile" Mina said. By now Shoto was red to the face, he never realized how much you became a part of his life.
"Not to mention you've admitted to loving her" Bakugo said from his seat in the ASL classroom. He was practicing his JSL so he didn't bother looking up from his notes.
Ever since Junior High Bakugo always knew that he would slowly ruin his hearing, similarly to Present Mic since he had such a loud quirk, so he would teach himself JSL in his free time. He had also started teaching Todoroki as well.
"When did he do that?" Iida asked.
"The day we were working on our Ultimate moves, or the night at least. I'm assuming (Y/n) had fallen asleep in the commons studying cause when I went to their dorm to check on them, Icy Hot was tucking them into their bed professing his undying love for them" Bakugo said still not looking up from his notes.
"It was not that dramatic" Shoto told him.
"It's true?" Uraraka asked.
"I just simply tucked them into their bed told them that I loved them kissed them on the head and left, not the first time I'd done it" Shoto shrugged causing the girls to squeal.
"So cute, you two are so meant for each-" Mina's fangirling was cut off by the classroom door opening.
Present Mic and quickly come into the room with a giggling Eri followed by Aizawa. "Hey Eri" Deku and Mirio greeted the girl in unison. The white haired child smiles back at them.
"Why are you guys in such a rush?" Jirou asked. Present Mic set Eri down the girl automatically going to Aizawa.
"Lessons are canceled for today" Present Mic said earning protests from everyone.
"Because- Because…" Mic trailed off before looking out the classroom door and nodding his head. First came in Neijire Hado with a big bubbly expression as always, followed by Midnight and a (F/c) haired student. The student wore light blue ripped jeans with familiar (f/c) sneakers and a familiar dark blue hoodie.
"(Y/n)?" Shoto asked. You looked up but towards Neijire and Midnight who smiled and insisted you walk further into the room. You lifted your head with a smile on your face before looking towards the classroom. You had dyed your hair (F/c) and now had another piercing on your ear and nose but what everyone noticed was the bright smile you wore.
"I'm back" You said at a whisper but since the classroom was so quiet in shock, everyone had heard you.
Your eyes trailed across the classroom before they stopped on your friends. You smiled at them before looking back seeing Mic, Aizawa, and Eri. When you looked at Eri- Aizawa and Mic both grinned at you.
"Is that-?" You cut yourself off in fear of being too loud. The two men nodded at you as Aizawa let go of Eri.
"Eri meet (Y/n), the person we told you about" Aizawa said. When Eri herself was at the hospital Deku had told her a few stories about you, and when Eri had gotten to meet Aizawa and Mic they told her about you as well.
"While they were home, Hado and I took it upon ourselves to keep them updated on what happened to everyone while they were gone which reminds me, Midoriya" Mic said catching the green haired boys attention.
"They called you and Mirio bumbling buffoons" Midnight said causing everyone to laugh. They all looked at you and Eri.
You crouched down in front of the small girl. The little girl smiled reaching forward to touch your hair., she hesitated pulling back. You smiled gently nodding at the girl encouraging her to touch your (f/c) locks. Eri did so giggling at the color.
"You're pretty" Eri said.
"Thank you" You said making her gasp and confusing the class simultaneously.
"You heard me?" Eri asked.
You smile shaking your head. "I learned how to read lips" You said quietly and as you spoke, you did the sign motions. Eri looked back at her two guardians then at the two students that saved her before grinning.
"I learned a little, for you" The child signed. You gasped softly a hand going to your mouth as tears threatened to fall. The entire ASL class watched in awe at the scene before them.
"It is nice to meet you Eri, I have heard a lot about you" (Y/n) signed slowly for the little girl. It took Eri a moment but she finally replied.
"I hear about you… 2 (N/n)" Eri signed slightly messing up, but you could still understand her.
"Kind of ironic that the deaf kid said they heard isn't it?" Monoma asked earning a glare from his classmates and a few others. "It was a joke sheesh" Monoma said. Ever since your incident, Class 1B and Class 1A have gotten along better, even Monoma has taken it down with his constant taunting.
The class watched as you hugged the white haired girl before standing up and facing the class. Your eyes trailed to the two third years in the back, then some of the kids from Class 1B you made friends with, over to Aizawa's secret son Shinso, then to class 1A. The ASL classroom was definitely packed with the amount of students in it but no one cared.
"Hi Amajiki" You signed to the anxious third year causing the boy to turn red and face the wall making you giggle. "How do you feel Mirio?"
"Never better (Y/n), welcome back" Mirio signed. Little by little you sign some stupid little comment to each of the students and grinning when they responded in return, if they messed up you would laugh and shake your head.
"Are you in the hero course yet Shinso?" (Y/n) signed. Shinso chuckled rolling his eyes.
"Getting there, trying to replace Mineta" Shinso responded causing you to laugh. You ruffled his lavender locks before moving onto your own class.
"Koda have you talked yet?"
"Tokoyami, how is Dark Shadow doing?"
"Ojiro does Denki still play with your tail?"
What surprised everyone is when you signed something at Aoyama that no one understood. But Aoyama only smiled before signing back at you in full confidence.
"What was that?" Deku asked.
"It was FSL monsiour, (Y/n) has real taste for a classy language" Aoyama said. The class just chuckled letting you continue.
"Iida how's your brother doing?"
"Denki stop playing with Ojiro's tail"
"Uraraka how's that crush on-"
You laughed when the zero gravity girl shot up from her seat grabbing your hands. "It's going great (Y/n), it's going great" Uraraka signed. You laughed as your eyes landed on Shoto, the boy tensed up.
"Kirishima, how's that crush on Bakugo going?"
You skipped over him. Kirishima didn't know whether to be confused or flustered, that was until he saw the smirk on your face. The red haired boy chuckled before looking forward at the ashy blonde that was now red to the face. "Dating for two weeks" Kirishima signed causing you to squeal. You quickly looked over at Mina pointing towards the two students. The pink alien girl giggled nodding.
"Kiribaku?" You quickly signed. Mina smiles returning the same sign motions.
"What the hell is Kiribaku?" TetsuTetsu asked as you continued with your class.
"It's mine and Bakugo's ship name" Kirishima chuckled a hint of blush on his face.
The class fell silent as they saw you were now standing in front of Bakugo's desk, the person to cause you to go deaf. You glanced down at his desk seeing both ASL and JSL papers.
"I have an appointment to go to the doctor to see if it's possible to get me a hearing aid, they doubt it cause it's possible that not even a hearing aid from Hatsume can help but we still have hope, you're coming with me and checking to get one too, I know your hearing is starting to fade because of your quirk" You signed in JSL so Mic, Shoto, and Bakugo were the only ones that understood what you signed. Bakugo went to sign back until you went to stop him. "I'll forgive you under one condition" you signed in ASL this time.
"Which is?" Bakugo rose an eyebrow in confusion. You giggled holding out your arms. "Hug" she said softly. In the years you'd known Bakugo one thing you've always wanted from him but never gotten was a hug, well a proper one at least. Bakugo groaned rolling his eyes earning a laugh from you. He stood up reluctantly giving you a hug, a proper one.
"Oh no fair he hasn't ever given me a hug" Kirishima whined earning a laugh from his classmates.
"Aren't you two dating?" Sero asked.
"You're right, I have no room to complain" Kirishima said. When the two friends pulled apart you went to walk back to Midnight and Neijire until Deku stood up catching your attention.
"Wait what about Todoroki?" He asked quickly. It took you a moment to process what he had asked.
"What about him" You signed.
"You skipped over him" Deku said and signed making you chuckle.
"I'll talk to him when he mans up and tells me that he loves me while I'm awake, or at least when he knows I'm awake" You signed causing the class to look at Shoto.
"Ooooo, (Y/n) secretly heard you say you love them- twice" Kaminari said while also signing like that you would know what he said. You snapped your fingers twice catching the class's attention before you held up a 4.
"Four times Todoroki!?" His class mates all asked in unison.
"Twice while they were asleep one time during the license exam and the last one was when I dropped them off at Recovery Girl's office, the day of the incident" Shoto said standing up from his seat walking towards his (F/c) haired crush. "How did you know about that last one?" He signed. You smirked looking back at Present Mic.
"What can I say, I'm a sucker for love" The English teacher said his head on Aizawa's shoulder. The ASL class simultaneously laughed before returning their attention to you Shoto. Shoto went to sign something until he felt all eyes on him. He sighed grabbing your hand taking you out of the classroom. You had the dumbest grin on their face the entire time while Shoto was blushing bright red.
When you both got out into the hall Shoto took you to the window ledge the two of you sitting there. They were both silent for a moment, it was obvious you wanted Shoto to start.
"I missed you" He signed first.
"I missed you too Sho, and I love you too" You signed. Shoto smiles shaking his head.
"(Y/n), listen-" When Shoto looked back at you, your facial expression made him stop. You raised an eyebrow at him giving him a skeptical look. When he realized his mistake he chuckled.
"Just listen to me, I'm new at this" he signed making you laugh.
"I'm just saying you're asking the deaf kid to listen to you so don't complain when I can't understand you" You signed making Shoto laugh. Your smile dropped when you realized, you couldn't ever hear him laugh again, it was such a rare sound that you heard when you could still hear but now you couldn't ever hear him laugh. When Shoto noticed that you were suddenly sad he places his hand on your cheek making you look at him.
"What's wrong snowflake?" He asked you making sure you could read his lips.
"I can't hear you laugh anymore, that became my favorite sound to ever hear but, I won't be able to hear it" You said so quietly Shoto had to lean in to hear you. Shoto signed leaning forward grabbing your legs placing them across his lap before pulling you forward hugging you. Your head was on his shoulder as your fingers played with his tie. When you pulled apart Shoto took a deep breath before signing.
"I know that when I first came here, I was determined to focus on my studies and not make friends, because I wanted to prove to my dad I could be the number one hero without his fire. But then after see you that first day with your tornados, your snow, your rain clouds, I just couldn't get you off my mind. At the sports festival my dad wasn't at all what I heard, I heard you cheering me on, you've known Midoriya a lot longer than you've known me yet you wanted me to win. I never even realized that I had feelings for you until the day we had to rescue Bakugo from the league. I realized that you are what motivates me to be a better hero, when I saw you put yourself out there and risk your life just to save him, I realized that I didn't ever want to lose you. But I thought that if I told you how I felt that would ruin our relationship. That night I gave you my hoodie I knew I always wanted to see you wear my clothes, the night that you fell asleep studying and I carried you to your room I knew I wanted to do that every night. During the license exam I told myself that I didn't want my license unless you had yours, that's why I made sure that you got yours before I made sure I got mine, even though we both know how that turned out. Then, when your fight with Bakugo happened, when you flew across that field, (Y/n) I swear my heart had to stop functioning for a moment. When I noticed that you couldn't hear us, every aspect of me died inside. I realized that we couldn't have our late night phone calls anymore, or listen to music, I can't read to you anymore and that just killed me inside. The past two months have been hell without you, I never realized how much you became a part of my life until you were gone, you genuinely became a part of my daily routine just ask the group. The amount of times I've zoned out in class thinking about you the amount of notes that I have that are now covered up in doodles of thunderclouds and snowflakes, when I went to go see my mom I talked about you for an hour straight, she really wants to meet you by the way. But (Y/n), I am 100%, absolutely, positively, in love with you and I don't know what I'd do if I ever lost you"
You stared at the half 'n half boy tears in her eyes. Before either of you could say anything or sign anything you wrapped your arms around him. Shoto, even though he was caught off guard, wrapped one arm around your waist the other stroking your hair.
When you pulled apart you wiped your tears as you chuckled.
"I was not expecting that at all Shoto, god, you have no idea how much I love you" You signed with the biggest brightest smile Shoto had seen.
"You say that but I'm sure that I will always love you more" Shoto signed back with a small smile. You gave him a look that told him he was wrong.
"You are incorrect, I love you more" You signed.
"I learned ASL and JSL in two months for you" Shoto retaliated with a grin.
"I learned how to read lips for you plus I kept your hoodie clean the entire time it was with me at my house, and you know how hard it is to do that with my little siblings around" You argue with a smug smirk.
"I gave you my hoodie, I read you stories, and I didn't stop thinking about you for these past two months, I even doodled you in my notes" Shoto stated. You rose an eyebrow at him challengingly.
"Listen to me, I learned how to keep my voice at a normal tone so I could continue to talk to you so you can hear my voice, I did your homework for you, I drew for you not to mention that I actually drew you, and don't feel special baby because I also thought about you non-stop while I was home. You doodled your notes with me well I doodled my bedroom walls" You said almost at a whisper but Shoto was able to perfectly understand you.
Shoto sighed a red blush coming onto his face as he looked out the window then back at his snowflake. You quickly leaned forward one hand on your knee the other grabbing the collar of the hoodie pulling you forward as he kissed you passionately. It took you a few seconds to process what was happening but when you did you happily returned the gesture. As you did the two of you slowly inches closer to each other so you'd be more comfortable. Due to it being both of yours first kiss it was a little sloppy but you guys wouldn't want it any other way.
You were the first one to break away from the make out your face burning red with a goofy grin plastered on your face as you bit your bottom lip. Your (e/c) eyes met Shoto's mixed matches ones.
"You win this round" You whispered. Shoto only smiled as he pulled you in again for a soft peck this time. He pulled back enough for you to read his lips when he says, "I'll always love you more than you know".
Deaf bakugou bkdk headcanon.
Kiri and Deku started learning sign language for bakugou when he became deaf and kiri is WAY better at it that deku so deku ends up asking him a lot of questions.
But kiri being the amazing wing man he is likes to tell deku the wrong meanings of some signs. Like he’ll tell him “ sweetie” means best friend or “love” means buddy. So deku ends up signing the wrong things to bakugou and every time bakugou is just shouting at him with like no volume control bc he doesn’t know he’s yelling super loud.
Deku is just standing there getting yelled at like like “ what?” And kiri is snickering in the background like the mad lad he is.
She Loves Me
Tumblr media
A simple patrol, a routine that Endeavor's work-study students took.
Words- 1.5K
Aizawa!Reader x Todoroki, Aizawa x daughter!Reader, Shinso x Sibling!Reader
Warnings: MAJOR Character death, slight violence, death, , angst, and lots of sadness, sad boi shoto
It was just supposed to be a simple patrol, a routine that Endeavors work-study students took.
“Can you stop yelling, I’m going to go deaf because of you.” You groan, twirling the knife in your hand as Bakugo keeps yelling.
You glance over at Midoriya, “Yo Deku how did you deal with chatterbox your entire life?” Midoriya is visibly pale as Bakgo yells more explosions coming from his hands.
Todoroki, ever silent just listens in on the interaction, he watches how your face crinkles into a smile when Bakugo gets more upset, or the way your lip turns into a small smirk when listening. Todoroki and you are what you say, friends, more of acquaintances. You and him are polar opposites. He is reserved and polite and you are outgoing and sarcastic.
Your personality comes fully from being around your ever sarcastic adopted father and brother. You two would talk ever so often about school or hero work but that was as far as it got. He would get a feeling in his chest that he couldn't explain but only around you. Was he sick? Todoroki admires you as a person and a hero.
As the four of you walk along the sidewalk when you feel the ground rumble before a loud explosion comes down the street. The four of you see a large bank have flames coming from it screams and yells coming from it as mayhem ensues.
“Really thought it was going to be a calm day, the last one there does paperwork. You to Wonderboy.” You yell, flipping off Bakugo and throwing up a peace sign to Todoroki. Deku sweeps you up running towards the bank leaving Bakugo and Todoroki in the dust.
“DAMN YOU BITCH!” Bakkugo yells explosions popping from his hands now flying over to the bank. Inside the destroyed building you and Deku split up, Deku immediately helping civilians out the building while you go looking for villains. Your quirk helps clear a path to get through faster. Your quirk was called Deadeye, it allows you to shoot, throw any object with perfect accuracy that sometimes defies basic laws of physics. You hear the sound of yelling as you head to what is the vault, the flames nipping at your skin as you run. Kicking the door open you see five villains stuff cash and jewels into bags.
“Quick it’s a hero!” One of them yells as you pull out a knife chucking it at the bag in the hand pinning it to the wall. Spinning out of the way from one of their quirks you rush vaulting over a table spinning your body around one of their necks flipping him over knocking him out. Two more rush towards you and you engage in combat.
“Bullseye, what's your location!” You hear Endeavor your mentor yell into the eyepiece.
“Little busy at the moment bossman!” You yell and dodge a blow to the face. Almost like a dance around them knocking them both out throwing knives into their clothing pinning them down. A kick to the chest sends you back and one of the villains holding a large bag begins to run out, you go to chase them when you’re grabbed by the collar of your costume and throw it back.
You push yourself up to see the final of the five with his chest strapped with a bomb. You put your hands up showing you’re unarmed.
“Let’s not do this okay, you’re going to hurt a lot of people if you do this.” You warn and he laughs, his hand clutching the trigger.
“You think I care, we’re leaving a message that you puny heroes can’t save anyone.”
You kick up a rebar and kick it towards his chest to stop him, “WE HAVE A BOMBER IN THE VAULT EVERYONE GE-”
A loud explosion going through the building rattling the already weak supports, The three heroes in training look in horror at the burning building all hearing you before it went dead. Todoroki without waiting runs into the building ignoring the shouts from his classmates and father. He uses his ice to stop some of the flames and glide on the floor to get faster. He hears the sounds of flames and sirens from outside as he heads into the destroyed vault.
Ash and smoke cloud his vision, he waves his hand in front of his face to clear his vision. He hears a cough and he sees a rumble covering a person. He rushes over, moving the stone off you hearing you groan in pain.
“Bullseye are you okay, we have to get moving.” He goes to pick you up when you push him away.
“It’s not that easy.” Todoroki looks over at you, his heart stilling seeing the metal rebar coming through your stomach, blood staining your costume.
“This is Shoto. I need a medic, she’s injured. Oh god, there’s so much.” Todoroki rapidly speaks into his eyepiece when your hand comes out and pulls it out of his ear.
“God, you’re loud like chatterbox.” You frown looking at his distressed face.
“You need help, you're losing too much blood.”
“I’m not leaving…” You say.
Todoroki shakes his head, “You have to, they need to look over yo-”
You grab his face, getting your blood on his face, “I can’t leave Todoroki! It pierced straight into the stomach to part of my lung.”
It is silent between the two of you the sounds of shouts and sirens outside. “You try to move this pole I will die. Well, I'm dying anyway but die faster.” You say and tears begin to fill Shoto’s eyes.
“No you can't, you still have training to do and we have class tomorrow.” He says softly.
You smile softly at his comment, “You’re something else Wonderboy.”
You wince feeling the shock you were in begin to fade. “Hey Todoroki, you go and become the best hero out there, you don't have to be number one. Become the best for me you got that.” He nods with tears sliding down his face, even crying he still is pretty.
“You know I had the biggest crush on you when I first met you. Mr. Perfect, my Wonderboy. But I never went for it. I’m probably an asshole for telling you now.” You laugh coughing in pain from your lungs.
“I like you as well, more than a friend,” He says and you are shocked by his confession, “I know we don’t talk but there’s this feeling in my chest whenever I’m around you.”
You feel your eyes start to burn tears forming looking up so they don’t fall. “Damn you for making me cry, I was supposed to be stronger.” You cry letting the tears slide down your face. Todoroki takes this brief moment to admire you for what might be the last time, even covered in soot and blood you still look as pretty as ever.
You grab his hand as the pain begins to become more painful, “I want you to know none of this is your fault, and don’t you go blaming yourself, the same thing goes with Bakugo and Midoriya I know they’ll try to blame themselves. Even your dad, he may be an asshole but he cares I can tell. My dad...tell him I love him and to keep living on and Shinso, don’t let him shut down he’s going to be an amazing hero I can tell. Tell anyone else that I love them I can’t really think anymore.” You ramble on squeezing his hand as you feel yourself get more tired.
Shoto nods his tears still pouring from his face, “Can I kiss you?” You nod your lips forming that smirk you always do. His lips press against yours and you feel your head get dizzy. The most perfect man was kissing you.
“love you shoto..”
Shoto feels your hand go loose and he pulls back seeing your eyes are closed, your face peaceful, not in pain anymore. Shoto holds you in his arms as he lets himself cry. From outside the heroes and police wait anxiously for two people still inside there. They hear the sound of footsteps heading towards the entrance of the bank. They sigh in relief seeing Todoroki coming out unscathed but their blood runs cold seeing the blood on his face and covering his costume. Silence fills the outside as they see who he’s holding. Your pale still in his arms as Todoroki walks further out.
“LET ME SEE HER!” Todoroki hears someone yell as they push past the police. He sees his teacher come into the clearing his face red and teary-eyed, Mr. Aizawa drops down to his knees, and Todoroki places you into his arms.
“Oh god, oh god!” Aizawa cries holding you into his chest, the pain of losing a child unforgettable.
Todoroki steps back his body numb as he looks back past his teacher. Midoriya is holding Shinso trying to calm him down as he sobs into his arms, though Midoriya fails at holding back his own tears. Bakugo is silent still staring at you, tears silently streaming down his face. He feels the heat from his father coming closer. Endeavor is silent as his son turns to look at him, his eyes are red and he is covered in soot and there is blood on his face. Todoroki steps forward falling into his father’s chest sobbing and Endeavor, shocked by his son’s contact, slowly rubs his hand up and down Shoto’s back as tears stain his costume.
“She said she loves me.”
Voice Sweet as Caramel
Pairing: deaf!Katsuki Bakugo x gn!reader Genre: fluff, slight angst? Warnings: none Summary: You meet Dynamight and don’t know that he’s deaf. Luckily for him though, when you find out, your quirk comes in handy Word Count: 5.1k words A/N: I did a lot of research to make Bakugo’s experience seem as real as possible. If there is smth that I did wrong, worded incorrectly, etc., please don’t hesitate to inform me. Thank you and enjoy!
Tumblr media
It didn’t really bother him at first. Being deaf, I mean. He didn’t have to listen to a bunch of nonsense all the time, he could sleep in peace, villains trying to goad him on and agitate him didn’t work anymore, and so on.
It didn’t take him long to realize just how many downfalls there are with that though. He started to fall behind in class because he could no longer hear his teachers. He wasn’t able to hear plans of attack or hear an enemy sneak up on him.
He can’t hear your voice.
He became deaf in the middle of his third year. It happened in the middle of a fight with the league of villains and he didn’t really have time to panic about it at the time. When school let out and he became one of the top heroes, he tried not to be bothered by it and for the most part, it worked. His other senses heightened as time went on but that doesn’t mean it made the reality that he’s deaf any easier. There were still the setbacks that will always hold him back from reaching top potential. Because of this, he’s the number three hero, right behind Deku and Todoroki.
That’s what really crushed him.
He never shows anyone, heroes, friends, and villains alike, that being deaf is a struggle for him, even when he gets used to it. He wants to hear the villains he defeats beg for mercy. He wants to hear his friends laugh when someone does something stupid. He wants to hear the praise of civilians when he saves them.
He wants to hear your voice but he’d, obviously, never tell a soul that.
He didn’t meet you until a year after he graduated.
You showed up when he was fighting some villains, and he’ll never admit that he was struggling a little bit. Somehow though, villain after villain suddenly couldn’t see him and they panicked. They’d run into buildings and each other before Bakugo beat them all to a pulp.
Seeing as how you’re the only one else there with a hero costume on, he assumes you had something to do with it. As he hands the villains over to the police, you come over with a warm smile aimed directly at him. He stares at your lips as you speak, his ears ringing with the silence that he’s grown used to.
He doesn’t really understand why you’re trying to talk to him, seeing as how everyone knows that the great hero Dynamight is unable to hear. So, why are you wasting your time trying to talk to him? Maybe you think he can read your lips. That is, after all, a common misconception about deaf people.
Without a word on his part, he turns and walks away from you. He doesn’t hear you stop in the middle of congratulating him. He doesn’t hear how you scoff a bit. He doesn’t see you frown at how rude he is.
Tumblr media
You walk into the building with a bright smile already on your face, excited for something you literally do every day of your life. It doesn’t matter how many times you do it though. This will always make you happy. Plus, you just came to Japan from America a couple of weeks ago. You haven’t been here in years. You are excited to use your improved quirk to help others.
You greet the lady at the front desk as you grab your sticker name tag that the staff makes for you every day. You then go to your first stop, gently knocking on the door and coming in once you get the go-ahead.
“(Y/n)! You’re back!” the little girl squeals, a large smile coming to her face. Your smile stretches out further as you walk over to her.
“Hi, Keiko! How have you been?” you say as you move your hands slowly for her to read. She watches them attentively before perking up, her mother beside her smiling softly at the interaction.
“I’ve been really good! I’m glad you're back!” she says happily, her ‘accent’ coming through more now that she’s calmed down and isn’t shouting.
“I’m happy to be back too,” you agree, your hands moving with your words.
“(Y/n),” the mother says, grabbing your attention, “Thank you for coming back. You have no idea what this means to me. To us. After the villain attack...” Her eyes are watery as she speaks, her hand coming up to pet her daughter’s head.
You smile softly at her, coming over to sit in the empty chair by her bed. “Don’t even mention it, Mrs. Suzuki. It’s an honor to be of use to you and your daughter,” you reassure. You then look to Keiko, seeing her body impatiently wiggling around as she waits for you to work your magic.
You chuckle as you raise your hands, her eyes widening, despite knowing what you were doing. She turns to look at her mom as she shouts, “Mommy! I can hear again!” You read her lips and smile as she wraps her arms tightly around her mother. You watch with a soft look in your eyes, trying to ignore your oncoming sadness that will come when her hearing comes to an end again.
“Keiko, I noticed that you are getting better at JSL. You must be studying so hard!” you praise, watching her chest puff out at the praise.
“You bet I am! It’s so easy and my tutor says I’m really good at it!” she brags while using her hands for you to read, a chuckle escaping you at how proud she is. She has every right to be though.
“That’s so cool! Can you show me what else you’ve learned?”
You stay with the girl and her mother for their hour before slowly taking away her hearing again. She doesn’t seem to mind though. Even at her young age, she’s grateful for the opportunity that others don’t get to have and she knows that you can’t let her have her hearing back forever.
You walk down the hall and walk into the next room after knocking. “Daiki? It’s (Y/n),” you greet softly, not wanting to spook the teen. He perks up at the sound of your voice, a smile coming to his face as he turns to face you.
That has to be the best part of your quirk. You bring all of these smiles to these unfortunate people whose lives were changed at the hands of villains.
“(Y/n)! I’m surprised to have you come back so soon!” he greets, holding his arms open for a hug. You happily accept it, returning his sight as you pull away. He brightens up more as the life returns in his eyes, your eyes catching the sight of his gums showing from how big he’s smiling before your own vision goes dark.
“I’ll never get tired of seeing your pretty face,” he playfully flirts, making you chuckle as you take a seat by his bed.
“You’re such a flatterer.” When visiting Daiki, he prefers to use his time wisely. He likes to memorize the faces of loved ones, read, watch tv, and other things that he can’t do.
When his time comes to an end, he sighs as he closes his book he was reading, a sad smile on his face. “You really are my hero, (Y/n),” Daiki says softly, his eyes roaming your face to now memorize it without your knowledge.
“I’m just doing what anyone else would do with my quirk,” you reassure, giving him a sad smile as you slowly take his sight away again. He sighs and picks up the same book from before but with braille instead of typed words.
“Still. See you next week?”
“You betcha,” you say softly before kissing his cheek and leaving.
Your quirk allows you to eliminate or heighten the five senses. You can only do one sense at a time though. You can do it in increments too, meaning you can completely eradicate or heighten a sense, or you can do it partially. For example, you can increase someone’s smelling to 100% and they can suddenly smell ten times better than a bloodhound. Another example, if someone is getting a headache by a smell, you can remove someone’s smell by 50% and leave them able to smell but not as strongly as they normally would be able to. Also, when you use your quirk, that sense is completely removed from you but only while you’re using it on someone. You also can’t use your quirk on yourself.
It’s when you’re leaving the RCV, the Recovery Center from Villains, you notice the fight between a hero and multiple villains. You raise your hand to one of the villains, removing his, and your, sight. When you hear a loud explosion and a cry of pain, you turn off your quirk to find the villain you used your quirk on laying on the ground. You repeat this process with the other villains until there was none left standing.
When the hero hands them over to the police, you run over with a grin. “Hi, I just wanted to say that you were incredible! I know you probably didn’t need my help but I just wanted to-”
You cut yourself off with a scoff when the blond suddenly walks away from you, a frown coming to your face as you watch him go. Well, that was rude. Especially after you just helped him take down four villains!
“Excuse me. Were you the one to help Dynamight?” an officer asks. You give her a kind smile as you nod your head, turning to face her now.
“Yes, ma’am. I have a senses quirk, so I eliminated their sight so, uh, Dynamite could get the upper hand,” you explain. She smiles at this, becoming more fascinated by the second as you explain what happened. You answer any questions she has, noticing the sun is starting to go down.
“Well, it’s getting dark. I’ll let you go! Have a great day—oh! What’s your hero name?”
“It’s Esthesia,” you say before saluting and walking away.
On your walk home, a guy gives you an unseemly smile as his eyes flicker up and down your body. “Hey, baby. Where you going?” You give him a bored look as you raise your hand, taking his, and your, sight away as you continue to walk straight. He begins to panic, your ears listening as he runs around frantically before crashing into a brick wall. When his body hits the ground, you return both of your vision with a smirk.
“Have a nice night!” you sarcastically call to his groaning figure.
Tumblr media
The second time you meet Dynamight—you learned from the news how it’s actually spelled—it was under pretty much the same circumstances. You stay by the sidelines, appearing as a civilian to everyone which is exactly what you wanted.
You raise your hand and remove the villain’s sight, listening for signs that the villain is defeated. When you return your vision though, you find a villain coming from above to attack Dynamight.
“Dynamight!” you shout in warning, pointing up for him to see what your warning is for. He never looks at you though, allowing the villain to attack him from above. You quickly remove that villain’s sight, hoping that you weren’t too late. Why did he just ignore you like that? Is he that stubborn?
When your vision comes back, you find that he has taken out all of the villains again. You charge towards him once you see this, coming up behind him. “Why did you ignore me? You could’ve been killed!” you shout, afraid for the hero’s life. He keeps his back to you though, his eyes moving from villain to villain to make sure that they will stay down. “Hey!” you shout as you lightly shove him to gain his attention.
“Hey!” he copies as he catches his balance and spins around, his eyes alight with an inferno that’s normally directed at villains. When he sees it’s you though, that inferno shrinks to a flame. “What is your problem?” he screams.
You scoff as you cross your arms over your chest, a glare of your own staring right back at him. “My problem? My problem is that you keep ignoring me! I was trying to help you back there and you didn’t even turn to acknowledge me! You could’ve avoided that attack altogether!” you shout right back, your eyes moving to the wound on his shoulder that he received from that villain. Your eyes return to his face when he huffs and looks away from you.
And just like before, he walks away from you, causing your jaw to drop open. “Hey! You don’t get to do this to me again!” you shout, running to stand in front of him. You notice that the police have arrived to take the bad guys away, which Bakugo also notices.
“Get out of my way,” he snaps, moving to go around you until you just block his way again.
“No! This is the second time I’ve helped you! You can at least thank me!” He doesn’t react to your words. He doesn’t even have an expression on his face anymore. He, again, just moves around you and walks away. This time though, you let him go.
“Fine! That’s the last time I help you then!” you declare.
It’s not.
He just seems to have an invisible sign that you can’t see that says, “Come attack me! I’m alone! Please beat me up!” You don’t understand why he never has backup. Well, besides you, that is.
After helping out several times though, you finally come across him in battle with another hero. About time. Where was he the last six times you’ve helped him?
You watch from afar, only helping if one of them seems to be struggling a bit. You notice that the other hero acts differently around Bakugo. Their body language is different and he never calls out to him. Does he not like him? Cause you sure don’t.
After the fight is over and the police have escorted the villains away, the heroes leave after interacting with the civilians for a bit. You notice that no one talks to Dynamight though. How is he the number three hero but isn’t popular amongst the civilians? That makes his situation even odder to you.
When they finally leave, you quickly catch up to them. “Hey! Hi, sorry! I just wanted to say that you guys did a great job!” you congratulate with a grin, not even looking in Dynamight’s way.
The guy with flaming red hair, named Red Riot you believe, gives you a toothy grin. “Oh, thanks! You’re Esthesia, right? I’ve seen you on the news with Bakubro a couple of times.” You raise your brow at the nickname but realize he’s talking about Dynamight.
“Oh, yes! It’s nice to meet you! You’re Red Riot, right?” At this, his smile gets even brighter, if possible.
“Sure is! You can call me Kirishima though! This is Bakugo,” he introduces. It takes everything in you not to scoff.
“Yeah. I’ve saved his ass a time or two before,” you say as calmly as possible. Kirishima looks to Bakugo and finds that he’s not even looking at you.
“Sorry about him. He can be so moody.” You raise your brow when Bakugo doesn’t come to his own defense, seeming to just take the playful blow.
“That’s one word to describe him. Anyway, I don’t want to keep you guys up. I just wanted to congratulate you,” you explain with a warm smile.
“Oh, it’s no problem at all! It was nice to finally meet the hero who has saved Bakugo’s ass so many times! Say, how about we meet up sometime? It’d be great for you to meet some of the other heroes. Your quirk is really useful!” You blush at this but nod nonetheless.
“Oh, that would be great! I love helping where I can!” You pull out your phone for Kirishima to put his number into your phone, this finally grabbing Bakugo’s attention, but he remains quiet.
“Super! I’ll text you when some of the others are free. We can all get drinks or something,” he says as he hands your phone back to you.
“Can’t wait! It was nice meeting you!” you say cheerfully before you leave the duo to go to the RCV, which is where you were heading before you stopped to help.
About a week later, you get a text from Kirishima asking if you’d be free Sunday night. You agreed to meet him at a restaurant and you couldn’t help but grow excited at the chance to finally meet other heroes in the area.
Sunday night came in a blink of an eye it seemed, your heart beating faster with each mile you get closer to the meeting place. You park your car and double-check that your outfit is in order before heading inside. You look around for spiky, red hair, and it only takes you a second to find him.
“Kirishima!” you call as you near the table. Everyone but a certain blond turns at the sound of your voice. His eyes look at his friends before finally looking at you. You make eye contact with him for a moment before looking at Kirishima.
“Hey, (Y/n)! You look great!” he greets, standing up and pulling out the only empty chair.
“Thank you,” you say with a blush, slowly taking the seat, to which he pushes the chair in for you once you’ve sat down.
“Everyone, this is (Y/n). (Y/n), this is everyone,” he introduces playfully as he takes his own seat. Once he’s settled, he properly introduces you to everyone, to which you happily greeted them all.
“And finally, Mr. Grumpy-Mc-Grumpy-Pants over there is Bakugo, which you already know,” he says as he taps Bakugo’s arm. Bakugo turns to look at Kirishima before following his finger to you.
“It’s nice to officially meet you,” you greet with much sarcasm. He, like always, remains silent and looks back down to his menu. You huff and decide to open up your own menu, trying not to be bothered by being shot down by the handsome male.
For the rest of the evening, weird things occurred. Kirishima always taps him when someone says his name, Bakugo’s eyes roaming the table until he focuses on the person speaking. Kirishima taps him again when it’s his turn to order. You’ve seen people talk with their hands, both literally and figuratively, but these people really seem to get into it, making wide and crazy gestures.
It wasn’t until your waiter came to your table with your food that you finally realized what was going on.
“So, (Y/n), tell us about your quirk. Bakugo hasn’t shined any sort of light on what your quirk is and Kirishima seems a little lost at what your quirk actually is,” Mina says with a smile.
Before you can reply though, your waiter and another worker bring your food to the table. “Who got the kung pao chicken?” the other worker asks, looking around the table. Kirishima was checking his phone when the question was asked, Bakugo not letting the waiter know that it’s what he ordered.
This is when it hits you.
The tapping. The blank, bored look. The quiet replies. The crazy gestures.
He’s deaf.
God, you’re such an idiot! You work with deaf people all of the time! How did you not realize until now?
“He got it,” you inform with widened eyes, your eyes staring at the blond. His eyes squint at you for pointing at him before realizing that you were just showing the waiter where his food goes. Once everyone has their food, you clear your throat.
“So, um, Bakugo is deaf?” you shyly ask. This causes everyone to pause and stare at you for a moment.
“Uh, yeah,” Kirishima answers, “Sorry, I assumed you knew…” he apologizes.
You shake your head, turning your gaze to Bakugo as you continue. “But why does he act like that?” you ask.
“Like what?” Kaminari asks with a furrow to his brows.
“I work with deaf people all of the time. A lot of them are decent at reading lips to some extent and most know, or are learning, JSL. Bakugo seems...like he doesn’t care or that it doesn’t bother him? Does he know JSL?” you explain quietly despite the fact that the man you’re talking about can’t hear you.
Kirishima sighs as he sets down his chopsticks. “Bakugo has been deaf for about a year and a half now. He knows JSL and uses it when necessary, but for the most part, he doesn’t like using it or when others use it to talk to him. It makes him feel....belittled, if you will. Like he has to have special treatment or something. I do my best to help him but I’m not perfect,” he explains, the last part being directed at what just happened.
You slowly nod your head as you take this all in, a small frown coming to your face. “So, you guys don’t know what my quirk really is, right?” you ask softly, a smile starting to come to your face. They all look confused in your change of subject but nod along anyway.
“Yeah, I was asking you about it before our food came. Kirishima says you can make people blind, or something?” Mina pipes up. You confuse them more when you begin to grin, all of them sharing a look amongst themselves.
“Do you want to see something amazing?” you ask, your eyes flickering over to Bakugo.
“Please don’t make me blind,” Denki begs, starting to ramble about needing to be able to see pretty girls. Jiro shushes him and then focuses back on you again.
You raise your hand to Bakugo, taking a deep breath before slowly giving him the ability to hear. Everyone looks to him when he drops his chopsticks, his hands shaking as he stares wide-eyed at his plate. His chopsticks landing onto the table is the last thing you hear before your own hearing is gone.
“I’m confused. What happened?” you read from Sero’s lips. You remain quiet and just keep smiling, your eyes focused on Bakugo. Bakugo’s eyes snap to Sero when he speaks, something seeming to lodge in his throat.
Before he can stop it, he’s tearing up.
“Bakubro! What’s going on?” Kirishima worriedly shouts, looking between you and him. “(Y/n)! What did you do to him?” Kirishima asks worriedly. At the mention of your name, Bakugo finally looks at you.
“I can hear,” he mutters, his voice barely being heard from how thick his throat feels. When everyone starts to say that they didn’t hear him and to repeat himself, he rubs furiously at his eyes and takes a deep breath. “God, I forgot just how annoying your voices are,” he complains, trying hard not to smile.
Everyone freezes at this.
“What?”
“You can hear?”
“What’s going on?”
“My voice is just fine, thank you!”
Everyone starts talking at once, bombarding him with their voices. A small smile comes to his face despite his best effort, looking at all of them fondly. He looks to you again, eyeing you up as the others continue to chatter on.
“Well, you being able to do this would’ve been nice to know a long time ago,” he grumbles. You stare at his lips, doing your best to read them. The average deaf person can only understand about 30% of what someone is saying based on just their lips though.
“Sorry, can you use JSL?” you ask politely before picking up your chopsticks to begin eating.
This causes everyone to freeze once more.
“Huh?”
“But why?”
Seeing their confused faces, you realize that you never explained your quirk. You give them the rundown before finishing with, “When I use my quirk on someone else, I lose the sense that I’m taking away or giving. So, in this case, I gave Bakugo hearing so now I can’t hear. This is all temporary, of course.”
The table vibrates with Bakugo’s hit, making your eyes widen as you look at him. “Take my hearing back away,” he demands, not using JSL despite your wishes. Your brows furrow at this, luckily understanding what he said anyway.
“What? Why? You were so happy just a minute ago,” you reply confusedly.
“No, I wasn’t! I’m perfectly fine being deaf! I don’t want your pity!” he shouts, grabbing the attention of nearby customers. With him talking so fast, you weren’t able to catch what he said. This is when an idea comes to mind.
You simply look away from him and down at your plate, starting to eat without another word. “Hey! I’m talking to you!” Bakugo shouts, realizing too late that, duh, you can’t hear him. “Don’t ignore me!”
Ah, the irony.
The others eventually get him to calm down, bright and warm smiles on their faces at seeing him act like his old self. Don’t get them wrong, he still acts like this all the time but there’s this...new fire to him that hasn’t been there in a while.
When he finally lets it go, you all start eating. The others use JSL to talk to you, seeing as how they all learned it for Bakugo, despite the fact that he didn’t want them to use it. It was a nice dinner, really.
When the night comes to an end, you all stand up and walk out of the restaurant together. “So, when will Bakugo lose his hearing again?” Kirishima asks curiously, signing out the words for you.
“Well, I can only use my quirk for so long before it starts to become dangerous, just like when you guys use your quirk for an extended amount of time. Because I use my quirk so much though every day all day, he could stay like this all night. I’m assuming we are all going our separate ways though…”
“Oh, okay. Well, we all really appreciate what you’re doing for him,” Kirishima signs with a kind smile. You smile back at him, not seeing Bakugo say ‘I don’t.’
“It’s no problem at all, really. I just wish I knew about it earlier, so I could help him sooner,” you apologize, turning to look at Bakugo now. By the look on his face and the way his mouth moves, you’re assuming he scoffed.
“Do you think we could hang out again soon? I think it would be good for Bakugo to-”
“What’s with that crazy idea? I’m going home,” Bakugo snaps before turning to leave. Seeing him leave, you slowly raise your hand and switch both of your hearing back. You bite your lip when he stops, the sounds of cars going past on the road and the chatter of people nearby suddenly going silent for him once more.
He almost feels like he’s going to be sick.
He turns back around, wondering how he can get you to give his hearing back without actually saying he wants it back. His eyes widen in surprise when all of the sounds come back, a small smile coming to your face.
“Not everyone has the opportunity to get their hearing back, even for just a little while. So, be grateful.”
Tumblr media
It took a while for Bakugo to finally warm up to you but after a month or so, he finally accepted your presence. It took him three to actually refer to you as a friend. It took half a year for Bakugo to admit to himself that you’re his best friend; he’d never tell you or Kirishima that though. It’s been a year and he still can’t admit to himself that he likes you more than as a friend.
Bakugo takes a bite of the food you made, his face scrunching up in mock disgust. “What did you put in this? Rat poison?” he jokes. It honestly didn’t taste half bad but he wasn’t about to admit that out loud to you.
He watches you dance to the music that he can’t hear, your lips moving as you sing. He wishes he could hear it. He watches you stop and turn to look at him at his insult, your mouth showing your scoff.
“Do you want to die?” you ask as you swipe your thumb across your neck. He smirks at you as he makes a show of taking another bite. He doesn’t hear you hum but he watches as you sign, “Yeah, that’s what I thought, chump.” He’s the one to scoff now, his eyes rolling with his annoyance.
He’s told you time and time again not to use JSL but you never listen. He secretly appreciates it because he doesn’t have to piece things together when you use it. He still acts peeved when you do it though.
“I’m not a chump. You’re the chump,” he snaps. You set your food down before walking over to the big speaker on your kitchen counter that is currently playing one of your favorite songs. You stand in front of it and place your hands against it before raising your other hand over to Bakugo.
His ears are suddenly greeted with the sound of the music, a frown coming to his face as he looks at you. While he appreciates being able to have his hearing back, he hates that you lose yours in the process. He’s pulled out of his train of thought when you start singing, his eyes becoming wide. You use the vibrations emitting from the radio to keep tempo, singing in sync with the artist.
Talking without hearing was easy for you but you’ve never tried singing without your ability to hear before. This shows as you softly sing, your voice shaky and out of tune at some points.
It’s the most beautiful thing that Bakugo had ever heard.
Your voice is as sweet as caramel. He watches you with a soft smile on his face, not even realizing that it’s there. When the song comes to an end, you bring your food over to the speaker and eat while your free hand remains pressed against the speaker to ‘hear’ the music.
To his surprise, one of his favorite songs comes on after a couple of minutes and you grew so excited when you realized this. You belt each word with immense confidence, not a sign of hesitation or worry in your voice.
This is when he realizes that he’s in love with you.
Bakugo woke up confused, disoriented, and pissed off.
He bolted upright, the taste of smoke and ash still on his tongue, but when he whipped his head from side to side, there was no fire, no burning asphalt, no villain, only the empty, dark expanse of his apartment.
But something was still tugging at him, fucking incessantly, and it took him a moment to realize it was his phone alarm.
Red eyes flicked to the device on his bedside table, and even though its continuous siren was like nails on a chalkboard, Bakugo found himself unable to move, unable to stop it.
Because he could hear the alarm. Clearly. Loudly.
He hadn’t been able to hear his phone alarm in weeks, not really. It was nothing more than a muffled tone that petered out toward the end as it rose in pitch and frequency. Thankfully, Bakugo’s internal alarm got him up most days around the sun, but he’d been late to morning patrols a handful of times.
But now…
Numbly, Bakugo finally reached out and tapped his phone. His ears rang slightly in the ensuing silence, but it was barely perceptible, nothing like the perpetual buzzing he’d been living with, like a hive of bees had taken up residence in his head.
The quiet, after so long, was almost… unsettling.
And it was all because of that woman. He was sure of it.
Bakugo pressed his lips into a thin line as he thought about you, the memories of last night flooding back. The blurry image of your face, crouched over him, splattered in a thin mist of red blood and dusted with white plaster. He couldn’t remember much from right after he blasted that villain into the fucking dirt. He remembered the feel of glass breaking around him, and pain, a lot of fucking pain, but then it was black until you appeared. When he’d opened his eyes and met yours, he recalled thinking he should be in more pain, but then you spoke to him and derailed all coherent thought.
Because he’d heard you. Clear as fucking day.
That immediately drew his attention, and so did the blood all over your hands.
There was a lot of it. Way too fucking much for nicking yourself on some glass or whatever bullshit excuse you gave. And Bakugo knew it was bullshit. You weren’t a convincing liar. Well, maybe to some idiot extras you would be, but not to him. He clocked the way you stuttered, the way you fidgeted and averted your eyes. And when you looked at him… fuck, your face was so goddamn guilty.
Why, he had no idea.
But he did know one thing.
You had a healing quirk. There was no other explanation.
Even if he hadn’t just miraculously recovered the hearing that a doctor told him he would never get back, there were a lot of other little discrepancies. His left arm, for one. Bakugo remembered how it felt when the villain’s asphalt wrapped around his limb, the burning, scalding agony of it. But now, the skin was just pink and barely blistered in some places.
Then there was the blood.
When he’d gotten home after ditching the crime scene, Bakugo had immediately beelined for his bathroom to take a shower. But, when he stripped off his hoodie, he realized it was heavier than it should be right before he noticed it was dripping onto his floor. Dripping blood. Without thinking, he’d wrung the hoodie out on the bathroom floor, and a fuck ton of red liquid seeped out of it.
He had immediately dropped the jacket and started scanning his body in the bathroom mirror, but besides the shallow gash on his abdomen, the burned arm, and a few other minor scrapes and bruises, he was uninjured.
But… his back was coated in red, and so were the seat of his dark jeans and boxer briefs. It was almost like… he’d been lying in a pool of blood.
So, you had to be a healer. You just had to be.
Unfortunately, he hadn’t been able to confirm this since the cops had been circling you like vultures. He also hadn’t wanted to be bitched at by any more heroes, or the fucking media, so he made himself scarce.
But he needed to see you again. Needed to hear the truth from your own mouth.
And maybe he could coax you into a deal.
The doctor Bakugo spoke to yesterday obviously hadn’t known what the hell he was talking about. He had made it sound impossible to fix the blond’s ears, and yet you’d somehow done it easily, in the middle of a fucking battlefield.
With that kind of power, Bakugo wouldn’t have to worry about going deaf or designing stupid hearing aids with some company.
With that kind of power, Dynamight would become Japan’s Number One Hero in no time.
But first, he had to find you.
Resolved, Bakugo shoved the covers off and slid out of bed, but before he could make it to his bathroom, someone started knocking on his front door.
No, not knocking. Banging. It sounded like they were trying to break the fucking door down.
“Bakubroooooooo!”
“Gotta be fuckin’ kidding me,” Bakugo grumbled as he padded to his front door. He was only dressed in boxer briefs, but that’s what the idiot got for barging over so early in the damn morning.
The banging persisted, growing louder and more fervent.
“I’m fuckin’ comin!” the blond shouted just before he undid the deadbolt and wrenched open the door.
Eijiro Kirishima, dressed in his Red Riot costume, blinked on the other side of the threshold, his fist still raised to knock.
“What the fuck, bro?” he asked after a moment of just staring at Bakugo.
The blond immediately scowled. “That’s my fuckin’ line. What are you doing breaking down my door at six in the damn morning?”
“Excuse me?” his patrol and agency partner scoffed. “I’m obviously coming to check that you’re not dead since you’ve been MIA for over twenty-four hours.”
“What?” Bakugo frowned. “I saw you yesterday morning for patrol.”
“Noooooo,” Kirishima drawled like Bakugo was a particularly stupid child. “That was two days ago, bro. Then that night, I see you all over the damn news, and no one could get ahold of you all day yesterday. I would have come to check on you sooner, but I’ve been having to play damage control with the media because someone decided to blow up a residential neighborhood.”
“Two days?” Bakugo echoed with a furrowed brow. He’d slept that long?
“Have you been passed out this whole time, dude?” Kirishima groaned as he shouldered his way into the apartment. “I guess that means you got none of our messages?”
“Our?” the blond grumbled as he closed the door and followed the redhead to the kitchen bar.
“Yeah, Denki, Mina, Sero.” Kirishima waved his hand dismissively, marching over to the counter where Bakugo kept the fruit and selecting an apple from the wire basket. “I even asked Izuku to message you, just to see if he’d actually get a rise and response from you.”
“I don’t need stupid Deku knowing about my problems, Shitty Hair,” Bakugo growled before he stomped over to his fridge to see what he had to eat because he was suddenly starving.
“Well, that would imply I know your problems, Oh Great Lord Dynamight,” Kirishima snorted and took a bite of apple. “So, what the fuck happened the other night?”
“I blew up a residential neighborhood,” the blond deadpanned as he turned on his stove, cracking a few eggs into a skillet.
“Yeah, I saw that. I was more wondering about what led up to it.”
“What the fuck do you think led up to it?” Bakugo snapped, rummaging through his cupboard for seasonings. “I was walking home from getting a drink, and a damn villain just popped up in front of me.”
“From what I heard, there were other heroes there, too,” the redhead mumbled around another bite of apple.
“Yeah, fuckin’ useless extras,” Bakugo sneered as he started to whisk his eggs with a pair of chopsticks, throwing in some leftover white rice and a bit of nori. “They obviously weren’t getting anywhere, and the bastard was tearing up the street, so I stepped in.”
“To finish destroying the street?” Kirishima cocked an eyebrow, chewing noisily.
“Fuck off,” the blond said with an eyeroll.
Internally, though, Bakugo knew the redhead was right. He’d been sloppy, careless, probably still borderline drunk. But he’d just been so angry about the doctor’s appointment, his fucked-up ears, his bleak and silent future. He had just wanted to break something, hurt someone, consequences be damned.
Except now the consequences were catching up to him.
Fuck, he didn’t even want to think about what his citizen’s approval rating must be now.
Silence stretched between the two pro heroes for several long minutes, in which Bakugo finished making his breakfast and Kirishima finished gnawing on his apple core. The blond quickly shoveled a few bites of eggs and rice into his mouth, but his scarlet eyes kept flicking over to the redhead.
“How bad?” he finally asked.
Kirishima, to his credit, had learned how to translate Bakugo’s curt grunts years ago.
“Actually, if I’m being honest, it’s not that bad,” he sighed, tossing the apple core in the trash and scratching at the back of his head. “Could be worse. From the reports I read, most of the damage—besides the road—is superficial. Broken windows, charred and peeling paint, a few busted cars that we’re still trying to figure out if our insurance or the city’s will pay for. It also helped that you saved two people. That definitely softened the blow.”
“Two?” Bakugo mumbled around one of his last bites. “I just remember the stupid extra on the street that I shoved out of the way.”
As the memory flashed through his mind, Bakugo frowned. He’d shoved that extra out of the way and got snatched by a giant asphalt hand for his troubles. The blond’s red eyes dropped to his pink and blotchy left arm and then trailed over to his chest. He recalled the sensation of his ribs snapping under pressure, but now only a mild soreness lingered after he took a deep breath. Yet another inconsistency…
“Yeah, two,” Kirishima said and drew Bakugo out of his thoughts. “Do you seriously not even remember your own heroics? And that girl had such nice things to say about you, too.”
“Girl?” Bakugo snapped his head up. “The girl whose… apartment I fell into?”
“Crashed into, dude,” the redhead snorted, but then he narrowed his eyes as a sly smirk tugged at his lips. “But yeah. Sounds like you remember her, huh?”
Bakugo didn’t like the smug look on his friend’s face.
“I remember her fuckin’ yellin’ at me.” The blond scowled. “Like I wrecked her place on purpose and didn’t just save her whole block from a lunatic.”
“I mean, to be fair, if you crashed into my house, bro, I would have yelled at you, too.” Kirishima grinned. “But don’t worry, she’s fine. In fact, when she called the agency yesterday, she asked for you specifically.”
“She did? Why?” Did she want to confess her healing quirk? Fuck, were there side effects Bakugo didn’t know about?
“Bro, seriously.” Kirishima rolled his eyes. “You’re Japan’s Number Two Hero, and you saved her life. And, like Mina keeps telling you, you’re not as ugly when you stop scowling.”
“Shut the fuck up.” Bakugo flipped him off before he went to dump the dishes in the sink.
“Yes, dear.” The redhead smirked. “But, in all seriousness, she called to figure out how to file a claim with our insurance. Or at least that’s what she said, but she also asked how you were doing, and she actually sounded genuinely worried.”
Worried that a random side effect was going to kill him? Or worried that he would say something about her quirk? She’d obviously hidden it for a reason, tried to lie for a reason.
And Bakugo was determined to find out just what that reason was.
“Yeah, well, I’m fine,” he grunted as he rinsed off his plate and put it on the drying rack. “Just a few scrapes and bruises.”
“I can see that,” Kirishima said as he eyed the butterfly stitches stretched across the gash on Bakugo’s abdomen. “Well, I’m glad I didn’t find you dead in a pool of your own blood. That woulda been a real bummer way to start the morning.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Bakugo muttered before he averted his eyes to the living room window across from him. “So… what did you tell her?”
“The girl?”
“No, you’re fuckin’ mom,” the blond scoffed.
“Oh, speaking of moms, you might want to text Mitsuki. I called her last night after you ignored my billionth text, so she’s probably going crazy wondering where you are.” Kirishima grinned and then immediately dodged out of the way as Bakugo hurled a fork at him.
“You bastard!” Bakugo hissed. “Now, I’m going to have to see that hag this weekend or she’s gonna fuckin’ barge over here.”
“Maybe you should turn the ringer up on your phone.” The other hero shrugged, ducking again when Bakugo chucked an apple in his direction.
The blond scowled at his friend, but he didn’t reply.
If you and your quirk were the real deal, Bakugo wouldn’t have to worry about missing a call ever again.
When Kirishima realized the projectiles had stopped, he popped his head over the back of the couch and smirked. “But to answer your previous question, I told the girl we would handle the insurance claim on our end if she sent us her info. And I didn’t really have anything to tell her about you since, like I’ve said, I thought you were dead. Kinda. I was at least thirty percent sure.”
“Have you filed the insurance claim?” Bakugo asked.
“No.” Kirishima shook his head. “She hasn’t sent in the info yet.”
“Well… we should go get it from her.”
This caused the redhead’s eyebrows to shoot up into his hairline, and the surprise on his face quickly made Bakugo backtrack.
“I just… want to get this shitshow over with,” he grumbled as he averted his eyes again, but he could feel a traitorous heat crawling across the bridge of his nose. “The longer her apartment’s all fucked up, the longer the press is gonna rake me over the coals. The hero ranking’s aren’t far off, and I’m not going to lose to Deku again over some stupid broken windows.”
“Righttttt,” Kirishima drawled, but his tone was mocking. “Okay, well, I know the hotel the police have set her up at. After we swing by the agency, we can head that way… to get her insurance info.”
He still sounded unconvinced and like he wanted to needle Bakugo more, but the blond changed the subject quickly.
“Why do we have to go to the agency?” Bakugo asked, and he frowned as he glanced back at his partner. “Even if I lost yesterday, my next scheduled patrol isn’t till tonight.”
“Oh, I know.” Kirishima nodded solemnly. “But Nao wanted to have… a word with you ASAP, if I confirmed you weren’t dead.”
“Fuckkkkkkk,” Bakugo groaned as he dropped his head back. If there was anything Bakugo hated more than the press, it was his actual PR manager. That old hag was good at her job, which meant she was always up Bakugo’s ass about something, and he knew she was going to have a field day with this shitfest.
“Yeah, I’d recommend coffee and preemptive painkillers before we head in,” Kirishima said. “Plus, some putting on clothes. Maybe we can stop on the way and get her something sweet as a bribe.”
“No amount of sugar is gonna make that bitch nice to me,” Bakugo grumbled before he spun on heel and started marching to his bedroom.
“Maybe flowers then?” the redhead shouted after him.
Bakugo slammed the door in response.
~*~*~*~*~*~
“This is fuckin’ ridiculous,” Bakugo growled around his cargo, kicking his foot out at Kirishima. “Why did I listen to you? I’ve had to go shopping twice today now.”
“Come on,” his friend laughed as he dodged the blow, which made the bags in his arms crinkle. “You can’t deny the flowers and cookies sweetened ole’ Nao up.”
“To you,” Bakugo muttered, shifting the package in his arms a bit. “She still yelled at me for fifteen minutes.”
“Well, you kinda deserved i—yow!” Kirishima yelped as Bakugo kicked him squarely in the ass this time. “This isn’t helping your image, bro!”
“No one even knows it’s us,” the blond hissed.
“Yeah, I guess the hoodies and sunglasses help,” the other pro hero mused.
“And the fact that we’re carrying all this stupid shit.”
“It’s not stupid.” Kirishima frowned in that earnest way of his, which made Bakugo roll his eyes. “It’s thoughtful to bring gifts to people who are having a difficult time. Especially when you made that time difficult. You basically kicked her out of her house, dude, not to mention her shop.”
A wave of guilt actually washed through the blond, which he didn’t like. It made his throat feel tight and his stomach churn, and he glanced away from the redhead with a scowl.
“Tch.” He clicked his tongue. “It’s not like we aren’t gonna pay for it.”
The excuse felt flat, even to him.
“Still,” Kirishima said as he shifted the bags in his grip, pulled out his phone, and consulted the map. “It must be stressful. So, we’re going to be nice to her, alright? Which starts with the gifts.”
“And how is a fuckin’ fruit basket supposed to help?” Bakugo asked as he glared around the overflowing mound of crinkling plastic and bright fruit that he held against his chest.
“Uh, one, it’s practical. Her apartment’s all fucked up, the power’s probably still out if not inconsistent on the street, and she’s been living in a hotel for two days, so she probably hasn’t had some nice fresh fruit in a while. And two, it looks nice!”
“We coulda just left this shit at the hotel,” Bakugo grumbled. “She has to go back there eventually, right?”
After old Nao chewed his ass out, Bakugo and Kirishima had gone to the hotel the police said they’d put you up in. Except you weren’t fucking there, and the number you left with Kirishima when you called the agency was going straight to voicemail, so here there were, fucking trekking through the city with a bunch of useless shit.
Bakugo just kept reminding himself it would be worth it when he got the truth about your quirk out of you.
“Nope,” Kirishima said and drew the blond out of his thoughts. “The city only pays the first two days after an emergency, unless the villain caused all the damage, but, uh, that’s not the case here, so we’ll be accommodating her until her apartment gets fixed up.”
“At the agency?” Bakugo asked as his red eyes clicked over to his partner.
As the Number Two and Three Heroes, the two of them had built a solid agency together. Bakugo still didn’t care for a bunch of extras riding on his tailcoats, so they had few sidekicks, all of whom reported to Kirishima and left him the fuck alone for the most part. But they owned a nice, sleek building in a nicer part of town, and one of the floors was dedicated to individual rooms with beds and other amenities. They were usually used when Bakugo, Kirishima, or the other sidekicks wanted to crash after patrol instead of going home—which Bakugo did more often than not—but they’d never had a civilian stay on the premises.
Until now.
“Yessssss, at the agency,” the redhead drawled as a shit-eating smirk crawled across his face. “So, you’ll be seeing a lot of her for the next couple weeks.”
“Wipe that stupid look off your face.” Bakugo scowled and shouldered past the other hero, who snickered as he jogged to catch up.
“Take the next left up ahead.”
“Shut up!” the blond growled, but he followed the instructions.
This was good news, though. Bakugo wouldn’t have to trek to this shitty part of town more than he had to.
And he’d have a healer just down the hall.
They marched along in silence for a few minutes, keeping their heads down, but there wasn’t much foot traffic. Bakugo was lost in his thoughts, planning out the questions he was going to ask you once he could distract Kirishima, but the redhead suddenly stopped in front of him.
“Hey,” Bakugo grunted as the fruit basket crinkled against the other hero’s back. He hadn’t even notice Kiri get in front of him again. “What’s the damn hold up?”
“Holy shit, dude,” Kirishima muttered, staring out at the road he’d just turned onto.
“What?” the blond grumbled, shoving past his friend, but then he stopped, too. “Oh… yeah.”
The street in front of him looked much worse in the bright light of midday. The road was a torn-up mess, more patches of dirt and gravel than actual asphalt. Most of the large-scale debris had been hauled away, but black scorch marks covered the sidewalks in long, dark smears. The walls of several businesses also bore charring along the facades, but most of the damage was focused in the center of the street. A crater nearly six feet deep was carved into the middle of the road, and the buildings on either side were blackened, their broken windows gaping voids.
And then there was the hole in what Bakugo remembered as your second-floor apartment. A tarp hung over the wound, but one of the corners had come undone, flapping in the wind and giving split second glimpses into the darkened room beyond.
Guilt crept up on him again, but Bakugo shoved it down, hunching over the fruit basket and nudging Kirishima.
“Come on,” he muttered before he started moving forward, and a moment later he heard the crunch of boots on gravel as the redhead followed him.
There were more people on this street than on the last several, but Bakugo could immediately tell they weren’t customers just passing through. People swept sidewalks, clearing away the last of the rubble and glass in front of their shops. Then a few old ladies stood under one awning shaking their heads, their hands laden with containers of food or gifts.
Guess Kirishima hadn’t been wrong with this stupid idea.
Then Bakugo realized some of those people were starting to look back at him, so he ducked his head further behind the fruit basket, grateful for his hoodie and sunglasses.
But then suddenly he was there, standing in front of your ruined shop. His red eyes immediately flickered upward, but if there was a sign there before, it was gone now, burnt to ash.
“What kinda shop did you say this was?” the blond asked under his breath as Kirishima paused beside him.
“I’m… not sure,” the redhead said with a furrowed brow. “I don’t think she said on the phone. No time like the present to ask, though.”
Before Bakugo could stop him, Kirishima shifted the bags in his arms, lifted one hand, and knocked on the charred metal frame of the front door.
“Hello?” he called through the broken windows, followed by your name. “Anyone in there?”
“Shit!” The squeaking voice was followed by a crashing sound somewhere in the shadows of the store.
Bakugo didn’t speak a lot of English, but he did know curse words, and the sound of it made his lips twitch in amusement.
“Are you okay?” Kirishima called out. “Can, uh, we come in?”
“Yes, I’m fine!” the voice answered back in flustered Japanese. The words were fluent, though, with barely the hint of an accent. “And, um, I-I guess you can come in, but—”
That was good enough for Bakugo.
The blond shouldered past his partner, boots crunching over glass as he ducked into the darkened shop, and Kirishima sighed as he followed.
The interior, if possible, looked worse than the outside. The room itself wasn’t very big, but it was a mess. Two metal rods had been embedded in the left and right walls at odd angles, obviously caused from the explosions, though Bakugo couldn’t tell what they used to be. Several pieces of blacked mannequins were scattered through the debris, and one wall was a charred mess of shelving and fabric, spots of color peeking through the black ash here and there.
In the back, left corner were the remains of a tri-fold standing mirror, the ones where you could see yourself from different angles. Large shards of glass were missing, though, so the image of Bakugo and Kirishima standing backlit against the street was fractured.
Last but not least, in the rear, right corner of the store was a counter that was half collapsed to the floor, behind which stood an empty doorframe that Bakugo assumed led to the back of the shop and upstairs.
And it was from behind this broken counter that you popped up with a dustpan in one hand and a tiny, handheld broom in the other.
The first thought Bakugo had was your face was rather plain… but in a somehow pleasing way. Like if his eyes had scanned over you in a crowd, something about the line of your jaw, the slope of your nose, the delicate quirk of your mouth would give him pause.
His second thought was that his first one was stupid. You were just some extra, of course you would be plain and unmemorable.
But his third thought was something about the color of your eyes was captivating, in a way that was damn fucking annoying.
“Sorry, I was just… cleaning… up,” you said, slowly trailing off as your eyes met Bakugo’s.
He saw the recognition flare in them immediately, followed by fear, and he couldn’t help the frown that twisted his face.
Why were you afraid of him?
“No, we’re sorry for barging in here like this,” Kirishima barreled on, oblivious to the stare off the other two occupants of the room were engaged in. “Didn’t mean to startle you. Oh! I’m being so rude. My name is Eijiro Kirishima, or you might know me as—”
“Red Riot,” you breathed, finally tearing your eyes from Bakugo’s, and you flashed the redhead a half-smile that trembled along the edges. “We spoke on the phone.”
“Yes.” Kirishima grinned, pointed teeth flashing in the dim light of the shop, before his gaze flickered over to the blond beside him. “And this is—”
“Dynamight,” you finished once again, and you looked like you were trying desperately to maintain eye contact with the hardening hero, but then your eyes clicked back to Bakugo. You didn’t flash him a smile. “We’ve met.”
“Oh, yeah, right,” Kiri chuckled awkwardly, and his arm jerked like he was going to rub the back of his neck, but the bags in his hands crinkled and stopped him.
“What… do you have there?” you asked, frowning at the bags and the fruit basket the heroes were carrying.
“Gifts!” the redhead declared as he hefted his arms up, and then he shuffled forward over charred fabric and glass and extended the bags to you.
You blinked at him for a second, but you set the dustpan and handheld broom on the counter, where they promptly slid to the floor since the whole surface was slanted. You winced at the loud clatter and tried to cover it up by taking the bags from Kirishima, which crinkled loudly again as they transferred hands.
Bakugo would be annoyed if he wasn’t more grateful that he could actually hear the innocuous little noise.
“O-Oh, um, you shouldn’t have, really,” you started as you peeked into the bags, and then Bakugo swore he saw your eyebrow twitch once you saw what was inside.
“It’s not much,” Kirishima said, and he was finally free to rub the back of his head and neck as his smile turned a little sheepish. “But, what with the state of your… apartment, we thought you might need some new clothes! And comfy clothes are the best after stressful days. These especially are super soft, we made sure of it. And, if you don’t like them, you could always sell them for a good chunk of change.”
The redhead winked at you, not in an overly flirty manner, that was just how he was, but your cheeks flared as crimson as his hair, and your eyes dropped to the floor.
Bakugo took the split instant to get a better look at you and noted you were wearing patched, faded jeans, solid boots, and a bleach-stained orange sweatshirt with some English writing he couldn’t read. Usually, he didn’t really see what other people wore because he couldn’t give less of a shit, but somehow he found your obvious cleaning clothes… endearing. The orange looked good on you, too.
Fuck, maybe you didn’t heal him as well as he thought. He had to be hemorrhaging into his brain to be thinking this stupid shit. Or maybe it was a side effect of your quirk?
He needed to get you alone and get answers.
“Well… thank you, this was very thoughtf—oh, wow, that is soft,” you murmured as you partially drew a sweatshirt out of the bag.
Bakugo instantly recognized the forest green and orange color scheme, and apparently so did you, because your face twitched, and you dropped the garment back into the bag and traded it for fuzzy socks with Red Riot’s signature gears stitched into them.
“These will definitely come in handy, my feet are always cold,” you said with an awkward giggle. Then you cleared your throat to cover up the sound. “Thank you, um, Red Riot.”
“You can call me Eijiro, or Kirishima, whatever you’re comfortable with,” the redhead said with another easy grin. “We’re going to be seeing a lot of each other, after all. Oh! We also got you a fruit basket, and I think there might be a few other sweets tucked in there.”
Kirishima nudged Bakugo forward, and your face rippled through a range of emotions, like your brain was taking a second to catch up to everything the pro hero just spewed. First, flustered embarrassment colored your cheeks, then confusion buckled your brow, and your eyes widened before they looked at the fruit basket Bakugo was extending at you.
“Oh, you can just put it down… um…” you trailed off as you turned to the counter and remembered it was half destroyed. Then your eyes jumped around frantically for some kind of flat surface, but the ruined shop didn’t offer any solutions.
“Told ya we shouldn’t of brought this shit,” Bakugo grunted, shooting a scowl at Kirishima.
“Yeahhhhh, we probably could have just delivered it to your room at the agency, my bad,” the redhead laughed. “But don’t worry, we’ll carry it back for you, along with any of your other things.”
“My… things?” you echoed, sounding out the words like a child, and a frown marred your face. “I-I think I must be misunderstanding you, I’m sorry, I’m American. But did you say my room at the agency? As in… your hero agency?”
“You’re American?” Kirishima asked with wide red eyes. “I wouldn’t have even guessed! Your accent is almost perfect, I thought you were maybe just from like the countryside or something.”
“I thought you said we were supposed to be nice to her,” Bakugo snorted at his partner like you weren’t in the room, and he saw you frown at him out of the corner of his eye.
“Oh, shit, no, that wasn’t what I meant!” Japan’s Number Three Hero immediately began waving his hands in front of his face, his mouth moving twice as fast. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude. I really think your accent sounds nice! It’s very cute!”
Now, not only did your cheeks flush again, but the red hue traveled down your throat and across your collarbones, peeking out the stretched collar of your orange sweatshirt.
Bakugo found himself half distracted by the sight, but the other half was wondering why he suddenly felt irritation flare up in his gut.
“Okay, you don’t have to take her out on a date now,” the blond snapped, shifting his burden of fruit and plastic.
“I-I think we might have gotten off track,” you stuttered as you clutched the bag of Dynamight and Red Riot merch to your chest. “You said something about your agency.”
“Yes, right.” Kirishima cleared his throat. “We would have mentioned this in our follow up email after you sent in your insurance info, but—”
“Oh, no, I’m so sorry!” you cut him off with a grimace, and you actually dipped your head and shoulders into a bow. “I meant to send that yesterday, but my laptop is broken, and my cell service isn’t great—”
“No, no, it’s fine!” the redhead interrupted this time. “You obviously have a lot on your plate. I just meant that this might seem kind of sudden, but—”
Fucking hell, this was taking too long.
“You’re staying at our agency until we can pay for the repairs to your apartment and shop,” Bakugo said bluntly. If he didn’t step in, the two of you were just going to stammer circles around each other all day. “Starting tonight. We have rooms with beds and shit, so pack whatever clothes or crap you need.”
Your mouth fell open as you gaped at Bakugo. “I… what?”
“You deaf or something?” The words rocketed from his mouth before he could stop them, before he could even think about what he was saying, and he saw the way the question struck you like a physical blow. You flinched, your cheeks paling, and he saw dawning, guilty horror glint at the back of your eyes.
He’d been right. You did do something to his ears.
“Bro, you were just talking about being nice.” Kirishima frowned at Bakugo before he turned back to you. “Ignore him. We’re really sorry about the inconvenience this whole… incident has caused for you, but we’ll take care of everything you need until your shop’s grand reopening, so you don’t have to worry about a thing, okay?”
You continued to stare at the two heroes in shocked silence, your wide eyes clicking back and forth between the two of them as you clutched the bags to your chest like a lifeline.
“That is… all so generous,” you finally breathed, your tone rising in pitch like you were growing increasingly flustered. “It’s, um, a lot to take in.”
“Of course.” Kirishima nodded fervently. “What else can we do to help?”
“Could you leave?”
Bakugo blinked in surprise and then had to stifle his snort.
“Oh, no, I’m sorry!” you quickly followed up when you saw the redhead’s falling expression. “I didn’t mean… I just meant, could I have some time to process this? Um, alone? L-Like Dynamight said, I need to pack a few things, a-and there are some people I need to speak to before, uh… well, is it okay if I tell someone where I’ll be? Like, at your agency?”
“Yessss?” Kirishima said with a confused frown. “Why wouldn’t that be okay?”
“O-Oh, I just don’t really know how the whole hero and media thing works here,” you quickly lied, and Bakugo clocked the way you averted your eyes, the way your throat bobbed as you swallowed thickly. “I-I wasn’t going to post on social media or anything, I barely use that stuff anyway, but one of my customers, Mrs. Kojima, would be upset if I disappeared without saying anything.”
“Aww, that’s sweet.” The redhead grinned before he glanced at the shadowed ruins around him. “What kind of shop is this by the way? I don’t think you mentioned.”
“A-Alterations,” you said, ducking your face in embarrassment again. “My grandparents were a tailor and seamstress. I inherited this place from them.”
“I thought you said you were American?” Kirishima asked, but not in an accusatory way. He was just too curious for his own good and didn’t possess much of a filter.
Bakugo usually didn’t care for small talk, fucking waste of time if you asked him, but he found himself focusing intently on you, awaiting a response.
“I am.” You nodded. “My parents were both born here, but they moved to the States after they married, and I was born there. After my grandparents passed, my dad was going to sell the shop, but I was looking for something… new, so I decided to move here instead about a year ago.”
Bakugo pursed his lips at this new information. If you had a healing quirk, why were you patching up clothes in some little shop all the way across the world from your surviving family? Could it be because your quirk was dangerous?
“Wow, that’s cool,” Kirishima said with an impressed expression that quickly turned sheepish. “Except about your grandparent’s passing. My condolences.”
“Thank you,” you muttered, a small smile tugging at your lips, but then you quickly shook your head. “I-I’m sorry, didn’t mean to give you my whole life story, I tend to talk when I’m nervous.”
“You don’t have to be nervous,” Red Riot laughed like he did when he was meeting shy little kids on the street, flashing his sharpened teeth jokingly and winking in an overexaggerated fashion. “I promise, we look scarier than we are.”
“Speak for yourself, Shitty Hair,” Bakugo scoffed, which made you jump, like you’d forgotten he was there.
And that rubbed him the wrong way for some reason.
Kirishima merely smirked before he partially covered his mouth with his hand and lowered his voice into a stage whisper directed at you. “All bark, no bite, I’m telling you.”
“Stop making me seem lame, you bastard!” the blond growled, but the effect was kind of ruined by the fruit basket crinkling in his hands again.
This actually seemed to startle a giggle out of you, and the two heroes whipped around, one with a grin and the other a scowl.
“See, you don’t need to be nervous,” Kirishima said before he slung an arm around Bakugo’s shoulders. “But we’ll get out of your hair for now so you can have some time to pack and everything. Don’t worry about picking up too much, though, we’ll have cleaning crews in here before we start the remodel, and we don’t want you to get hurt in here. If there’s stuff up in your apartment that you don’t want to bring with you to the agency but don’t want thrown out, make a list, and we’ll be sure to keep everything safe.”
“O-Okay,” you said, still standing there with the hero merch clenched to your chest and a dumbstruck expression on your face. “T-Thank you again, Red--, erm, Kirishima.”
“Of course!” He grinned. “I have patrol tonight, but we’ll send a car to pick you up—”
“No,” Bakugo cut in as he locked eyes with you. “I’ll pick you up. What time?”
The blond could see Kirishima shoot him a look in his peripherals—probably because they both had patrol tonight—but Bakugo ignored his partner, maintaining eye contact with you.
You, meanwhile, squirmed under the explosive hero’s intense scrutiny, your face paling and flushing in turns. “I… no, you don’t have to do that, I can take the train—”
“I insist,” he interrupted again, narrowing his eyes so you would realize he wasn’t going to back down. “Like Shitty Hair said, we caused this… inconvenience, so I’ll pick you up. What. Time?”
You swallowed thickly, your throat audibly clicking. “S-Seven?”
“I’ll be here at seven sharp,” Bakugo said. “And you better be out front or at least answer your phone this time.”
You better not run, he didn’t say, but by the look on your face, you understood.
“Seven sharp.” You nodded, biting your lip as a resigned expression settled over your features. “Got it.”
“Great. See you then.”
With that, Bakugo turned on heel and crunched his way out of your store, leaving Kirishima stuttering apologies in his wake.
But that didn’t matter.
All that mattered was, tonight, he’d finally get you alone and get to the bottom of your damn quirk.
************************************************************************
Dabi’s frustration only grew when he saw your excited expression. All the sudden all he could think of was the was the way that Bakubrat had kissed the top of your head the last time he had seen you.
Dabi readjusted you so you were on his back and put his hands firmly on your thighs. He’ll admit he’s being ridiculous, but he wanted to keep you out of reach from the explosive idiot.
You were practically buzzing with excitement. You had missed your friends. Even though you had seen them a few weeks ago, it wasn’t nearly good enough, you felt like you didn’t have enough time to actually thank them for saving you. You had known all of them from high school except you had known Katsuki and Izuku much longer. You all had known each other since you were kids. Katsuki was always the one pulling your pigtails while Izuku was always the one to let you paint his fingernails.
That mentality pretty much stayed the same as you all got older. Katsuki would still relentlessly tease you but he was always much meaner to any of the guys who hit on you. There was a rumor that went around that your quirk made you super good in bed and it had every guy chasing after you for the wrong reasons. He never hesitated to hit first and ask questions later when men cat called you in his presence.
Katsuki had always had a very special place in your heart. He had always been your protector as well as your biggest supporter. There were so many times he and Izuku had talked you out of quitting school. Every so often an article would circulate about how villainous your quirk was and how you deserved to be locked up. The pressure would eventually get to you and you would end up in one of their rooms pacing and holding back tears. They helped you learn to love your quirk, but Katsuki was the one who secretly worked with you on weekends to help you get stronger. He thought if he showed you that you were more than just your quirk you would finally stop listening to all the fucking gossip blogs.
You kept bouncing with excitement the entire time Dabi walked towards the front door. He paused a few steps away and gave your thigh a sharp slap. “Hey, quit that. If you keep bouncing like that, I’m going to drop you. Behave.”
You wondered what crawled up his ass. He was just praising you a few minutes ago and now he’s grumpy. There’s no way he could be that mad about Katsuki coming to visit. He knew this was going to happen. He was holding you when Katsuki promised as much. You understood that he didn’t really get along with most people, and Katsuki was honestly kind of hard to get along with in the first place. But that still didn’t give him the right to be so pissed about him being here.
Dabi opened the door but remained in the doorway, effectively blocking Katsuki from entering. “Can we help you?”
Katsuki had a duffle bag on his shoulder as well as a box at his feet. “You could start by letting me in asshole.” He looked at you and his scowl softened just slightly, “Hey dork. Think you could convince your chauffeur to get out of the way?”
You giggled and gave Dabi’s neck a pinch. Dabi responded by giving your thigh a pinch, “Eye for an eye brat. You want me to let him in? I think I deserve an entrance fee?” He pointed towards his cheek as if he was asking for a kiss.
Katsuki’s eyes traveled from where Dabi’s hand was firmly squeezing your thigh to where he was pointing at his cheek. They were furious. He was about to just shove his was through when you wrapped your arms tight around Dabi’s neck and leaned backwards. Effectively throwing his body weight off and giving Katsuki more than enough room to enter the house.
He quickly let himself in and made his way over to the couch where he dumped the box he was holding. “Alright so here’s your first care package.”
“Don’t see why it needed to hand delivered…” Dabi dropped you on the couch next to the box so you could rummage through it.
Katsuki quickly took the empty spot next to you, totally ignoring Dabi. “I brought you a couple new manga that I know you’ll like, and I think Deku added a bunch of pictures and shit from your old apartment.” He reached over you into the box and pulled out a shirt and you grinned ear to ear. It was an old All Might shirt that you had stolen from Katsuki years ago because you liked how soft it was.
He smiled and put his arm around you, “I thought you might like that. I hope you don’t mind I’ve been wearing it in your absence. So, it might smell like me.”
Dabi walked by grabbing Katsuki’s arm and casually flung it off your shoulder. Then without a word started going through the box. “Did you remember the bathing suit?”
You could hear Katsuki’s palm’s crackle with irritation, “Yes… I did. But don’t get your pervy hopes up. I got the most conservative one I could find.” There he goes being overprotective for no reason… well that wasn’t exactly fair he did have a reason. He had just found you in the most horrendous condition possible and immediately had to hand you off to a former villain who kidnapped him in his youth… so yeah. You decided you were going to cut him some slack.
“Well considering it’s for her fucking rehabilitation…she could be naked for all I care. As long as she’s comfortable and gets those damn legs moving.” Dabi could feel his temper starting to get the better of him. Considering Bakugo was known for having the worlds shortest fuse, he needed to keep his cool. He could not be the one to snap first.
“Oi! Don’t act like carrying her around is such a burden!” Bakugo stood up now squaring off with Dabi.
Dabi’s eyes flared but his voice remained even, “I never said it was a burden… In fact, I love carrying her around. However, I don’t plan on making it a habit because I want her to get better.” His voice dipped and got angrier, “And don’t you talk about her as if she’s not sitting in the same room as us! She can speak for herself…”
He looked at you and you gave him a pointed look. ~Calm down please.~
He took a deep breath and signed back, ~Trying~
Katsuki looked between the two of you with narrowed eyes, “When did you guys learn sign language?”
Dabi walked into the kitchen and started making dinner. If Bakugo wanted to make a house call, he needed to let him have his fun. He’d be leaving soon enough, he just needed to let the two of you be until then. “We started learning a couple weeks ago.” He pulled out two bowls because that’s how passive aggressive he is. If that asshat didn’t get the hint by the time dinner was ready, then he’d just have to sit there and watch you eat.
Dabi had to stop for a moment and contemplate this. Why was he this mad? Why did he actually care this much? You were obviously going to be close with the loudmouth. You’d known him for a long time. He needed to remember that just because you lived with him now doesn’t mean that you even want to be here. For all he knows you’re just tolerating him because you have to. It’s not like the two of you have lots of late-night conversations.
He looked over when he realized it had been pretty quiet and saw that the two of you were speaking in sign. His hands on yours helping you with a new word. “Okay so obviously you know sign too.”
Katsuki had a shit eating grin. “The doctors told my mom when I was young, I’d eventually go deaf due to my quirk. I’m basically fluent.” He continued to sit and teach you new words and damn if you weren’t happier than he had seen in the past two weeks.
Dabi rolled his eyes as he went back to making dinner. “Go ahead and teach her whatever you want. Be fucking useful for once.” Dabi continued to make dinner, shoulders tensing every time he heard you giggle.
Katsuki had his phone out and was showing you everything you had missed. “Okay so surprise, surprise, Deku and IcyHot are like a thing now.” He showed a couple cute pictures from Izuku’s private Instagram. The last one was of them kissing under an umbrella. “Kiri and Mina had a kid. Little rascal is probably about six months old now. He’s cute but his teeth hurt like hell.” He picked up his hand that had a tiny crescent shaped scar, which had you absolutely grinning.
He ruffled your hair, “Oi, you won’t be smiling when the brat bites you next.” He continued to scroll, “OH! I almost forgot the best part.” He turned his phone to you and showed you a picture of someone’s mug shot. “Fucking grape juice got arrested.”
Your eyes widened. You waited for him to go one when you realized he was waiting on you. He was giving you an opportunity to contribute to the conversation. ~Why?~
“Trying to buy a prostitute… Literally no one was surprised.” He looked back to the kitchen to make sure Dabi wasn’t listening. When he was satisfied, he pulled you closer into his side and threw his arm around you. “Hey, you would let me know if he was mistreating you right?” His fingers carded through your hair and his eyes roamed all your visible skin for signs of abuse.
You nodded your head and pulled your shirt further down, suddenly aware that you weren’t wearing pants. You had just gotten so used to it you had forgotten. He noticed you fidgeting, “He hasn’t touched you, has he? Because I swear to God I’ll rip out every single staple in his body then make him eat them.”
You leaned further into his to side to hide your blush. He most certainly had touched you. And you still hadn’t worked out how you felt about it. He hadn’t made any attempt to do it again beyond the casual touches when he carried you or when he helped you in the pool. He had made it a habit of sleeping in your room, but he always stayed on his side of the bed.
Katsuki must have taken your lack of response as a confirmation. “I’m going to kill him.”
You sat up straight and started shaking your head, ~No. No. Wrong~
“Wrong? So, he hasn’t touched you then?”
You gulped. Either way you answered was bad. You either told him the truth and he rage killed Dabi, or you lied to your best friend… Either way you were fucked.
As you struggled for an answer Dabi walked in and handed you your bowl of curry and rice. “Don’t worry I’ll answer that one for you, and stop at me at any point you think I got it wrong.” He took his seat in a recliner and took a bite of his meal. “So, we had a moment where something could have happened, but we stopped before it got too far and decided we were just being emotional and moved on.”
Katsuki’s hand started to heat up and crackled but you pulled on his arm to get his attention, ~Right~
He still looked angry, and maybe even a little hurt, which had you all confused again. He looked like he wanted to throw one of his famous temper tantrums. You knew how much it was killing him to not pounce on Dabi, “Keep your disgusting hands to yourself from now on. She’s been through enough. She doesn’t need you taking advantage of her!”
“You don’t speak for her!”
You clapped your hands to get their attention, ~Enough~ You gave each of them a glare and it was silent after that.
You took a bite of your dinner to avoid Katsuki’s eyes and was met with the most delicious meal Dabi had made to date. You cleared your throat to get Dabi’s attention. You pointed to Katsuki then your bowl of food and signed ~where~?
“I didn’t think a busy hero like him would have time to stick around for dinner.” He continued to pick at his food, “Speaking of which. It’s getting late. Hate to keep you from your super important work of dress up and make believe.”
Katsuki gestured to the duffle bag he carried in. “Oh, I’m not going anywhere tonight.” He was looking at you now. A look of concern ghosted across his face. “Consider it a wellness check.” He leaned forward and gave the side of your head a soft peck, “I just want to be sure you’re okay. I promised you I wouldn’t let anything happen to you and I intend to keep that promise.”
You felt yourself sinking into his familiar warmth. If there was anyone who felt like home, it was Katsuki. Sure, he was in the middle of a ridiculous pissing contest with Dabi at the moment, but you really couldn’t blame him. He’d always been a stubborn, territorial, asshole. But he was also kind he cared about you and for that you could forgive him.
“Whatever, just don’t get in the way of our routine.” Dabi stood up with his now empty bowl. “You know that law, eat every last bite. I’ll get your bath started while you finish.” He looked at Katsuki, “You can have my room… I’ll sleep on the couch.”
He didn’t even wait for a response as he left the two of you alone.
Katsuki visibly relaxed into the couch once Dabi had left the room. “What did he mean by law?”
You smiled as you pulled out your journal and opened it up for him. You pointed to law number seven. At first, he was pissed that Dabi would give you a new set of rules to live by, like you were some kid. But then he realized there wasn’t a single “law” on here that didn’t have your best interest in mind.
His eyes scanned over the rest. Chuckling at some silly laws like ‘Wake up whenever the hell you want’, and ‘No fucking shrugging.’ He had to admit that he also hated it when you would do that. It wasn’t that you were indecisive. It was that you knew what you wanted but you never wanted to speak up for yourself. Always willing to bend over backwards to make others happy. Never wanting to give anyone any more reason to dislike you.
His heart hurt at the laws that said things like, ‘No drugs’, ‘No locked doors’, and ‘Never say sorry for something that isn’t your fault.’
The law that had his blood boiling however was the last one, law number thirteen. ‘I will not initiate the sexy time without written or verbal consent.’ He furiously flipped through the pages that came after, trying to get the idea of you ever giving Dabi consent to touch you out of his mind.
You had finished your food by now and stretched your muscles out. All in all, this had been a great day. You walked on your own in the pool AND Katsuki had come to visit. You were so tired you just knew you would fall asleep as soon as your head hit the pillow. Hopefully you wouldn’t have any nightmares.
You put your hand on Katsuki’s shoulder and used it to push yourself to your feet. You wobbled for a few seconds but otherwise kept your footing.
“Hey look at you! I thought you’d be too tired after what we did in the pool today, good job.” You looked up to see Dabi leaning in the hallway. “Your bath is ready. One for me, two for blondie.”
Katsuki scrunched his nose up, “Wha-“
You held up two fingers and Dabi nodded. “Alright looks like you get bath time duty today.” Dabi smirked when Katsuki’s eyes widened. “Don’t freak out. She’s gotten to the point where she can get in on her own and some days she can even get out too. You just need to hang out by the door in case she needs help.
You wound your arms around Katsuki’s neck, and he picked you up. His heart pounded as he followed Dabi to what he assumed was your room. He leaned over and whispered in your ear, “Hey wouldn’t be the first time we bathed together.”
You giggled and hit his shoulder. You knew he meant when you were kids. But you couldn’t stop the blush that took over you at the thought of him just hopping in the tub with you now.
Dabi tensed up as he stopped at the door to your room. “Alright… y/n you know the drill if you need me just yell.” He winked at you after his stupid joke and you flipped him off.
He walked back to the kitchen and opened his laptop. He started to go over tomorrow’s sign language lesson early. He’d never tell you this, but he does this every day. You were so much better at picking it up then him, he needed to do extra work just to keep up.
You signed ~Thank you~ as Katsuki placed you down next to the full tub.
“Okay… so I guess you just let me know if you need me by…?”
You shrugged as you knocked on the side of the tub. Part of you really didn’t want him to leave, even if it was only for a few minutes. You reached out and grabbed his wrist.
He gave you a curious look, but softened when you signed back, ~Stay~
“Does he usually stay?”
You shook your head, Dabi always insisted he had things to do and it was important you do some things on your own.
Katsuki took a seat on the floor with his back against the tub. Even with permission he was determined to protect your modesty. You slipped your clothes off and quickly lifted your legs into the tub. It was almost too easy now and you smiled at your progress.
You sighed as the water warmed your skin. Your hand reached for Katsuki’s and gave it a squeeze. You could see the tension in his shoulders as he squeezed your hand back before intertwining your fingers.
“Y/n… I -I know I’ve already said I’m sorry. But I still have this mountain of guilt sitting on my chest. You were… are… one of the most important people in my life. And I was so wrapped up in my own life I didn’t see the signs. I didn’t notice that something was wrong.” You could hear his voice crack as he tried to hold his emotions down. “I knew you went on secret missions that you couldn’t always talk about. I watched as you came back looking defeated and… and broken. I thought there was something going on, but I just kept reminding myself you worked with heroes… that I was just being paranoid.”
You felt tears build in your eyes and you were glad he wasn’t looking at you. You rubbed circles on his hand with your thumb encouraging him to keep going. He obviously had a lot he had been bottling up. “You know Deku and I went to your agency one day after you had been gone for a few months and all they told us was your mission was confidential, and we weren’t related to you so they couldn’t even tell us if you were okay.” He sniffled, “I went there every day after work and got the same bull shit answer. It drove me crazy.”
He took a deep breath to settle himself, “So we started asking about you. Started looking for you in all the underground trading routes.” A long silence followed as he got lost in the memories of looking for you. “It almost took us a year, but we finally found someone who had seen you. Some small-time villain whose quirk was invisibility. He had snuck into your agency to try and break his boss out. But when he found him you were also in the room…”
He didn’t keep going, and for that you were grateful because you didn’t want to hear it. You knew what came next and you didn’t exactly want to relive it.
“I’m so sorry. I failed you. I was supposed to protect you. I promised you I’d be by your side forever, and I-I-“
You pulled his hand towards you and gave it a kiss before putting his palm on your cheek. He hesitantly turned and looked at you with tears in his eyes. You activated your quirk and washed over him with feelings of love and understanding. You watched his eyes close as he shuttered. You may not be able to speak, but you could still communicate to him through feeling that you were okay.
You reached over and brushed a stray tear away and pulled him close to plant a kiss on his forehead.
When your bath was over, he waited for you to wrap yourself in a towel before picking you up and depositing you gently on your bed. You pulled the All Might shirt he had brought with him over your head, and crawled under the covers.
He had only wanted to lay there until you fell asleep, but he ended up falling asleep soon after you.
Dabi walked in hoping to tell you goodnight but found the two of you asleep facing each other. You under the covers, Bakugo on top of the covers. Your hands stretched out towards each other as if looking for each other even in sleep.
Dabi’s hands were glowing with livid flames as he left in a hurry.
He went straight to the abandoned cabinet that held all of the now off-limits drugs. He could take just one… you would never know.
He growled as he shoved the bottle back into the cabinet and slammed the door. Reaching instead for a bottle of whiskey. He went to the couch and poured himself a drink.
And that’s how you and Bakugo found him the next day. Passed out on the couch empty whisky bottle on the floor next to him.
Dabi chugged his coffee as his head pounded. He was no stranger to hangovers, but ever since you came to live with him, he hadn’t felt the need to drink that much. At one point in his life it had been the only way he could get any decent sleep.
He watched from his seat at the kitchen island as you and Bakugo made breakfast. The smell of bacon hit him and his stomach growled. Shit.
You could see his sour expression and when Bakugo wasn’t looking you stood from the chair you were sitting in. Dabi kept his eyes on you like a hawk. Watching for any signs you might fall. You stumbled but he remained still. He knew you were okay. The Island was right there if you needed to hold on to it. You were only a few steps away from him now. Arms stretched out and a smile on your face.
You knew this would cheer him up, and get him out of whatever shitty mood he was in. Only one more step and you’d be there. To this Dabi stood up and took a step away from you with a playful look in his eye as if to say come and get me.
Bakugo continued to talk, not even noticing you weren’t sitting behind him anymore. It wasn’t until the loud thud of you hitting the tile floor that he looked up. He immediately rushed to you while Dabi laughed.
“Why the fuck are you laughing? She could be hurt!”
Dabi just continued to laugh, “I’m laughing because it’s fucking funny. She’s fine.” He titled his head to the side. “You’re a tough cookie aren’t yeah y/n?”
You giggled and nodded. Dabi took you from Bakugo’s embrace “See she’s fine. I think you need to remember she used to be a pro hero. I think she can handle tripping over her own feet.” He stood up and sat you down in front of the laptop.
“Okay time to learn some sign language, looks like today’s all about food. Oh good, you love food.” He ruffled your hair before picking a piece of bacon off of your plate and biting into it.
The little back and forth continued the entire day. The biggest argument came later when it was time for the pool. You groaned and decided you weren’t in the mood. ~No pool~
Dabi rolled his eyes at you, “Yes pool. You even have a bathing suit this time. So, get your ass in gear.”
You crossed your arms over your chest in defiance. “Listen here brat. It’s the law. We work on getting your strength back every single day. No negotiations.”
Bakugo didn’t like the tone Dabi was talking to you in. “Oi, she’s not some puppet for you to boss around. She said she doesn’t want to so that’s it. Back off!”
Dabi’s eyes flared with anger, “You don’t have a fucking say in this. This is between me and her.” He looked at you again, “If you had asked nicely, I might have let this go. Just because we have a guest doesn’t mean you can disregard the laws and neglect the routine. Now be a good girl and let’s go put your bathing suit on.”
Bakugo stepped between you and Dabi, “Be a good girl? What the fuck is your problem. You don’t own her.”
Dabi pinched the bridge of his nose trying to remind himself why he can’t just fight the obnoxious asshole in font of him. “I don’t own her, but I also refuse to sit here and watch her wither away. We have laws to make her better, and I refuse to deviate. It’s clear I take her recovery more seriously than you do.”
Bakugo shoved Dabi back, “The fuck you do! This isn’t some rehab she checked into. You have no right to boss her around! What makes you think you know what’s best for her?”
Dabi was practically screaming now, “Because I’ve fucking been in her shoes, you ignorant ticking time bomb!” His chest was heaving now, “Did you ever wonder why I had to fake my own death just to get away from my own father… who was a fucking HERO! I’ve been poked and prodded and pushed past my limits. Except I didn’t have someone there to help me and I ended up in the League. Depressed, blood thirty, and hell bent on getting revenge on the so-called heroes that were so okay with a little boy practically killing himself every day just to produce the next number one.”
To this Bakugo didn’t have an answer. He’s heard Todoroki’s horror stories. He could only imagine what Endeavor had put Dabi through.
Dabi looked at you know eyes still furious, “I’ll make you a deal y/n. You put on quite the show this morning taking a few steps on your own. No matter how mad I am, I’ll never tell you that wasn’t a good job. But now you want to skip the very thing that allowed you to take those steps.” He walked out of the kitchen and took a seat in his recliner. “Make it over to me right now, with no help and we can skip the pool.”
With a determined scowl you pushed yourself out of your seat. Bakugo went to grab you “Y/n you don’t have to do-“
“Yes! She does, now let her do it. She needs this. Y/n you can do this. Now prove it to me and prove it to yourself.”
You took your first step, determination written all over you face. Step followed step and you had already walked further than you had this morning, but you were only about halfway there.
Dabi’s eyes were patient and his voice was calm. “Come on y/n. You can do this. You aren’t broken. There is nothing wrong with you. Just keep walking.”
You could feel the tension in the room stiffen. Bakugo watched you with his hands out as if to catch you, always your protector, always your safety net. But you didn’t need that right now.
Your knees started to wobble and buckle, and involuntary whine left your lip as you went down to one knee.
“Come on you can’t give up now. You’re doing such a good job. Now push yourself back up. I’m right here. Come on. Push harder!”
You felt a tear streak down your cheek as you tried to push yourself up but only ended up on the ground.
Bakugo was at your side in an instant but you pushed him away.
“That’s right y/n you can do this. I believe in you. I don’t care if you have to crawl. You’re so close.” You pulled yourself up enough to crawl across the rough carpet. You got up to your knees then slowly you stood.
Dabi saw the fire in your eyes and it sent a shiver down his spine. You were going to do this even if it killed you. It made him think about what you would look like in battle. If you looked even half as gritty as you do now he had no doubt you had strong men cowering at your feet. He wouldn’t be satisfied until he gave that back to you. That power, that strength, that untamable will, he knew was somewhere inside you laying dormant.
He got out of his recliner and lowered himself to the ground, “Come on your so close now. Keep going Y/N!”
With one last push you practically jumped into his arms and collapsed. Tears streamed down your cheeks, but for the first time since coming here they were happy tears. You did it. You walked all on your own.
He cooed into your hair as he rocked you back and forth, “You did such a good job. You did it. I knew you could. You can rest now. I’ll get you some ice cream. How does that sound. We’ll celebrate.”
You nodded as you clutched Dabi’s shirt.
Bakugo disappeared for a few minutes and when he came back he had his bag over his shoulder. He kneeled down next to you and pressed his forehead to yours. “I think it’s time I got back to work. I still need to take down the bastards that did this to you.” He smoothed his fingers through your hair and looked to Dabi, “I think you’re in good hands.”
He made his way to the door, “I’ll be back soon.”
Madness (Bakugou Katsuki x F!Reader)
"I think you're cute."
Bakugo whipped his head around to stare at you in disbelief. You were sitting on the floor, stretching out your legs with the most serious expression upon your face. His mouth twisted into a snarl and he approached you, stomping, cutting off his stretch session. The rest of the class quietly watched the scene unfold, unable to say much from the crackling pressure in the room. You done fucked up for real.
"What the fuck did you just say!?"
You looked up to him, hints of annoyance swimming in your (e/c) eyes, "The fuck, did you finally make yourself deaf with all those nasty explosions? Jeez," you muttered, scratching your back mindlessly, "I said I think you're cute. What about it?"
He was sputtering and fuming with quiet rage.
"And you did this for what?!"
"To let you know, dunce."
Bakugo clenched and relaxed his jaw several times, the gears in his head turning and working furiously.
"Do you think this is the part where I fall for you or what? I get it, you're trying to bring out the nice side you BELIEVE I own so you can show off to your cute friends or something," he knelt staring you in the eyes, brows stitched in the middle of his forehead. "Well guess what, this side doesn't exist, shitty woman, so keep your compliments for Deku or the damned Half and Half bastard, who might acknowledge your pathetic existence, because I won't! I'm going to blast all of you extras into oblivion while I climb the ranks, ya watch me!"
At this point, Bakugo was smirking, already anticipating your mental breakdown over the blown-out rejection, in front of everybody on top of that! Your face seemed frozen in time, but he knew you'd start crying soon. That's what girls always did.
You blinked once, then twice, and he was bracing himself for the pang of guilt he'd feel once shit hit the fan.
But instead, you began laughing. Howling laughter, the kind that made your guts ache after a while, throwing your head back with tears prickling your eyes from the intensity. Everyone, including Bakugo, stared at you in shock. Did you finally lose your last damn piece of mind?
But you didn't notice them, instead kept laughing in Bakugo's face, already wheezing from the lack of oxygen. He still sat in front of you, stunned and completely silent for once. You wiped your eyes, a painfully wide grin plastered on your face, so big he felt his cheeks hurt.
"Damn, Lord Explosion Murder, you're also funny it seems," you mused in content and patted his cheek friendly, then stood up and resumed stretching. "Learn to take a compliment while you're at the intense hero training and shit. Momo-chan, can you crack my back for me, please?"
You confidently walked away, approaching your group of friends, while Bakugo stared blankly at your empty spot, heart hammering against his ribs. You laughed at him. Fucking howled at his remark, the one that was supposed to put you off, make you hate him, then simply shrugged it off and went to your stupid little friends. He couldn't believe his fucking eyes or ears.
The rest of gym class he spent taking out frustration and stealing occasional glances at you, who seemed as unfazed as ever. The fluttering in his chest didn't subside even hours later when he was lying awake in his bed and staring at the ceiling. Guess you weren't a damn extra, after all.
And although he wouldn't admit it to himself at that second, he found you cute too.
Even the Yelling
Bakugo x Reader
Warnings: cursing, a little angst.
A/N: This takes place three years after graduation, Bakugou went Pro. NO ONE ASKED FOR THIS, SORRY.
Summary:  While on patrol, Katsuki runs into you – his ex-girlfriend.
Tumblr media
The day was boring – not a single fucking peep, not even from a lowlife criminal. Bakugo grunted as he checked the time on his cellphone, ignoring the text message from dumbass Deku. He was getting irate with the lack of action he was seeing during his shift, so he said screw it and decided to have an early lunch. He walked a few blocks before coming into a ramen shop that was all too familiar. He stood there for a moment, frozen at the front door; it was the restaurant he used to take you to.
“Fuck.” He muttered, not remembering how he even ended up on this street. Staring at his reflection in glass, he noted that his hero costume had changed quite a bit - it felt more refined and less childish now that he was a Pro.  He did away with the flashier items, dialed it down because he decided his power and pure strength would be what was on display. He sensed it within himself, the last couple of months had made him more into a man and he hated to think it had been because you weren’t around. He was forced to grow up, forced to deal with his feelings.
It had been six months since the two of you broke things off, he needed to focus on his Pro Hero career – always pushing himself closer and closer to the number one spot. He had become so consumed with his career that he didn’t notice you slipping away. His self-doubts and esteem had gotten the best of him when he noticed how other people could make you laugh so easily. He hated seeing his friends and you bonding, texting and making plans to hang while he took more shifts at his agency. You had decided not to go Pro, instead settled for a hiring job at a competing agency right after graduating. The two of you had busy lives but it worked out so well, you leased an apartment together.  Living with you had been the greatest year of his life, waking up to you had been Bakugo’s delight – not that he would admit it, at least not then. He knew now, that had been the problem – he couldn’t admit his feelings, any of them.
“Kacchan?”
His heart dropped at the sound of your voice, for a moment, he thought he had made it up in his head. How pathetic, he thought to himself until he felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked away from his reflection to see you standing there, wearing jeans and a dark blue winter coat.
“Lion,” he blurted out, embarrassed that he even uttered the loving nickname out loud. He was relieved that you didn’t seem to mind, just smiled. Six months had gone by - it might not have seemed long or maybe it did, but staring at you, he noticed how different you looked. He hoped you could notice the difference in him too.
“How are you?”
“I haven’t kicked the damn bucket yet,” he urged in that same explosive tone you had loved since UA.
You laughed, pretending it didn’t hurt to see him or worse that your heart was pounding so fast. His costume had changed since you had last seen him, it suited him better – he looked like a real Pro Hero. He stood straight; his hair shorter with an under cut. It was easy to admit to yourself that Bakugou was looking good because he always did, even if he wasn’t aware of it, which was hilarious, knowing how modest he could be.
“That’s good to hear, were you going in to eat?”
You looked at him and tried to not be reminded of how much it hurt when he broke things off – sure it was technically mutual, but it felt far from it. He had been so busy with being a Pro Hero and you had always been supportive, but then it all got flat. Somewhere along the lines, the two of you became roommates, not lovers.
“Uh, yeah – you hungry? It’s on me,” he said, reaching to open the door. You thanked him, accidently brushing up against him as you walked into the shop – his body took up a lot of room and it felt electric when you touched him. He looked slightly red, ushering you in with a slew of curses under his breath. You ignored them with a smile because it was nice to know he hadn’t changed entirely.
He muttered something about getting a seat, but he didn’t need to, you knew which table to get – the back corner one. It was the one the two of you took up every week, sometimes together, sometimes Kirishima and Mina would join.
The two of you sat down and ordered lunch, trying to edge around the notion that you were with each other again – after six long months. Bakugo leaned back into his chair, trying to seem relaxed but you saw the anxiousness in his eyes. He stared intently as you drew off your coat and sighed deeply.
“You fixin’ to leave? I’m not holding you back, you know.”
“I know,” you snapped. Your ex’s eyes widen in delight and he laughed, a gruff, loud laugh that drew attention from the other patrons.
“There’s my Lion,” he laughed again. “I’ve missed your dumbass getting all pissed off. Remember when you challenged Kirishima to a fucking duel?”
Rolling your eyes, you asked how things were. “I heard your number one at the agency, congratulations.”
“It means shit,” Bakugo grunted, pausing as your food was brought to the table. Neither of you said a word, just thanked the waitress before she walked away, and then it was radio silence. The ramen was hot, steam circling up to your nose as you felt his eyes on you. He was undressing you like he used to, carefully watching for turns in your mood, ready to fight at a drop of a hat.
“I’m not trying to fight with you, Katsuki.”
“I ain’t tryin’ to fight either, it’s fucking pointless. This whole thing is pointless – what the hell were you doing so far from your part of the city?”
You looked at him with great disbelief and laughed. “You’re fixin’ for a fight, dumbass.”
He didn’t catch the bait, instead he sighed and scratched the back of his head. “No, I'm not,” he whispered, voice low and sincere. “I didn’t expect to see you today, it’s been a while, huh?”
Admittedly, you were a bit shocked – this whole set up screamed fighting, that’s how it was the last month of your relationship.  The two of you would pick fights with the other, ending the night with Bakugo on the couch or crashing with Kirishima – it was childish, and you saw now, that the two of you were past that.
“I’ve been busy with work, I’m looking to move agencies,” you said.
“Going Pro now?”
“Hell no,” you laughed, leaning forward to eat. “Although Fatgum has been begging me to join his agency, he wants me to be a trainer.”
Bakugo nodded and pointed his chopsticks at you. “You’re wasting your quirk by pushin’ paper behind some shitty desk. You should take up his offer, you’re a good trainer.”
He was speaking from experience; back at UA and after graduation, you spent hours training with him. Your quirk allowed for you to momentary blind your opponent, it was a useful quirk, but you realized earlier on at UA that your passion was leaning towards training than leading. Bakugo loved when you used your quirk on him, he felt like it enhanced his senses and quirk.  That’s how your relationship started, he had demanded that you to trained with him and no sooner than later, the two of you had become decent friends. Then somewhere along the lines, he had confessed to you during a session – he was pissed off that you weren’t pushing yourself with your quirk.
“You’re gonna be a great hero! Don’t be a dumbass! FIGHT ME!”
“I’m not like you, Katsuki! I don’t have the fire inside me,” you yelled back, lifting the blindness from his sight. He dropped down from the air and landed with a large bang; his eyes were glowing with fury as he walked towards you. You stumbled back and threw an upward hand gesture to him, making him blind again.
“I don’t need my sight! I CAN SEE PERFECTLY! You’re meant to be a damn hero!”
You knew he meant well, but you just didn’t have it in you. “I don’t want to be a hero; I want to help people become the heroes.”
Bakugo stopped in his tracks as you lifted your quirk. He didn’t look upset, just a little disappointment. Your heart raced as he stood silent, eyes fixated on you. Then he spoke and it wasn’t what you had expected.
“I know I can’t make you be a hero if you don’t want to,” he said quietly, the undertone of his voice retrained and hoarse. “Yeah, it’s gonna piss me off that your wasting your quirk but I’ll respect your wishes. Just know I believe in you; I know my Lion can do it!”
“Your - your lion?”
He squinted and crossed his arms against his chest. “Are you deaf! I know you heard me!”
That was the closest to a confession Katsuki had ever given anyone, and after the session, the two of you had become a couple.
A couple of idiots, you realized as you looked across the table to an older version of the boy from that fighting session. The two of you were kids then, maybe still are – sometimes you felt older than you were and then there were other times that you longed for the days at UA.
“Training would be far more interesting than recruiting...”
Bakugo grinned. “Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about. I guess you’ll be seeing Shitty Hair more often, huh.”
“Always an asshole, huh?” you teased.
“Yeah, yeah,” he laughed, rubbing the back of his neck. His eyes fell onto yours as you smiled and continued to eat – then a sinking feeling washed over him. It was a chance meeting – how many times had he run into in the last six months? None. Now today, here you were across from him, looking beautiful as ever and it pissed me off knowing you were existing without him. That was selfish – he didn’t mean that, all his feelings were jumbled up.
He just missed you, he hadn’t realized it until he saw you. Yeah, his days were long, and he spent too much time at the agency. He still wanted to be the world’s number one hero but when the days were over, he came home to an empty feeling.  He even still had the photo from his birthday last year up in the living room.
You had thrown him a surprise 21st party and the old gang from UA were there. It was more fun than he cared to admit, but he was annoyed that Sero had gotten a photo of you and him cuddling on the couch after several drinks. He had gotten damn tipsy – his first time in fact and if he thought about it too hard, he could still feel the hangover from the next morning.
“I’m different now.”
Katsuki’s voiced boomed in your ears so unexpectedly your chin was covered in ramen broth; he laughed and without thinking, reached over to clean your chin with his napkin. Frozen, you could only watch and feel the weight of the napkin on your skin until he pulled away and tossed the cloth on the table.
“Anyway, I’m different – you should know that. I’ve - I’ve been tryin’ and it’s been a real pain in the ass!”
Your face relaxed and all you could do was smile at him – he looked and sounded sincere, and you knew it took a lot of strength for Bakugo to even talk about his feelings. So, you had to give him that.
“I hope you didn’t change too much,” you teased, reaching your hand across the table to his but unsureness had you pulling away. He noticed right away, reaching to death grip your hand. His hand warmer than most. It was comforting as it always had been, and you felt guilt in that moment for not fighting for your relationship. Then again, the Bakugo sitting across from you was more mature than the one you said goodbye too six months ago.
He held your hand tightly and leaned forward, his red eyes softening. “I-I know I’m an asshole and my hero career is important to me but – but I can’t let you go again.  I’ll be more present....”
Relief – that's what you felt after hearing those words from the man you loved since the two of you were teenagers. Yes, he was difficult at times, but no one knew him like you did. No one saw the person he was behind closed doors – he laughed a lot and was the biggest home body you knew. He was thoughtful and sometimes silly. There were days when he came home from the agency pissed the hell off, cursing and unable to settle down but that was his passion, and you were more than happy to him rant about his day.  It was when he stopped talking that things changed, he stopped coming to you with his problems and most importantly, his laughs.
“I never wanted anything but to be your person, Katsuki,” you said giving his hand a squeeze. He relaxed under your touch, the two of you forgetting about the hot ramen in front of you.  “I can’t do this again if you stop talking to me, so, please, don’t stop talking.”
He grinned widely, squinting his eyes mischievously.  “Even my yellin’?”
You laughed then and rolled your eyes, god, he was such an asshole. “Yeah, dumbass, especially the yelling.”
Headcanons
HI I have no idea how to start this tumblr thing or what exactly to do
So i'm just gonna share MHA headcanons + ships so far for the AU i've got!
Note that I don't genuinely ship some of what's listed, it's mostly just for next-gen purposes. But I will fully lean into whatever I list, I'm very fixated on this right now.
Ships:
Bakugo x OC (possibly x Kirishima as well. Poly)
Deku x Ochaco
Yaomomo x Todoroki
Kaminari x OC
Others shipped w OCs not yet made, probably only making the kids
Also rq, Bakugo's kid is the MC of the NextGen AU I have in mind, and One for All is passed to him. Ignoring the fact that it sounds like MHA is taking OFA in a different direction. I am embracing quirk overkill and all of its issues
Now do I know what exactly is considered a headcanon? Haha. No i do not
Headcanons:
Aroace lesibain Mina !? wowiw. Mina gets a gf with a cat quirk, might plug in another unrelated OC here as like a funky easter egg type thing
Bakugo and Kirishima are fruity. Somewhat for each other, but I mostly mean in general. The Gays
Bakugo has a toothgap! Perfection is fake bakugo w tooth gap is real
Scarred up, ponytail deku. I like what I've seen.
For everyone's benefit I'll be either remaking Mineta better or pretending he does not exist, I hate that guy
Bakugo gets some hearing loss when he's older, i like that one. I'm not making him entirely deaf just v hard of hearing? Here he's mostly made peace w Deku, but still gets mad at him bc he's always muttering. Lots of yelling in the Bakugo household. Bakugo pretends not to hear people a lot. I'll do research on this when I start thinking about these aspects more.
Mirko prob wouldn't have kids so I'm giving her a niece instead. Which I guess means I'm giving her siblings? Idk if she has any family canonly so I'm just makin stuff up
Endeavor is probably either very dead or will have died at some point in this story. Dunno if he really does die, I'm only barely into S5, but I sure will act like he did.
Bakugo gets a quirkless kid cause I'm so nice. He is of course torn up about this but he ends up being a great dad, for the most part. Very annoyed about Izuku's involvement as the cool uncle. Moreso annoyed about Denki's involvement as the cooler uncle.
Ochaco and Deku still live modestly despite Deku's placement in the hero rankings. The most expensive thing they own is Hatsume's terrifying security system, and the insane hot-tub Ochaco decided she needed.
Deku and Ochaco get to be a funky Bi couple
LOV get reformed... mostly? I mean, whichever ones I spare will. Shigaraki excluded, NextGen AU appoints him the new All for One. Dabi survives until like... around when Bakugo's kid is 16. And then gets wiped out by a very souped up Nomu.
Deku, Bakugo and Todoroki constantly fighting for #1, so the rankings change for them frequently. It's an unspoken competition between them all.
Bakugo has a hero agency alongside Kirishima. It's called GroundRiot, which doesn't make sense anymore because the nerd named himself Dynamight. I'll give Ground Zero to his kid I guess. Blonde boy exists to give me trouble I think.
bakugou x reader (non-binary) // bakugou or midoriya?
you’re midoriya’s best friend. that is why you absolutely hate that you’ve had the biggest crush on his bully, bakugou. fucking katsuki bakugou. while you can take his usual comments and advances towards midoriya, today was different. you learn a secret that leads to your biggest decision yet.
content warning: arguing
you sit in class in your usual spot behind midoriya. you two are just chatting and skimming through his notebooks filled with details upon details of every hero and villain that you can name.
you glance at the door, expecting aizawa to walk through to start class. your heart stops for a second as you meet those red eyes. the usual angry look is plastered on bakugou’s face. hands in pockets, shirt slightly untucked, he walks into class. there’s one chair left available, and of course it is the one right next to you. bakugou starts walking towards you; three rows away, two, one, and finally he turns to walk down yours.
you poke midoriya to get his attention before the teasing begins. midoriya looks up at you, then looks at bakugou, and sighs.
“what are you looking at nerd?” you hear him ask. as bakugou reaches midoriya’s desk, he slams one hand on the open notebook. “you taking more notes nerd? if you can’t be strong like me, then you have to have the brains like me huh?” he leans down till he’s inches away from midoriya. you start to lean forward to try and stop bakugou from making it worse but a gentle hand stops you.
bakugou laughs, “it doesn’t matter anyways, if you and i went one on one, i would still win.” bakugou’s eyes turn towards you and meet yours. your face begins to flush and you shift in your seat.
“oh shut up bakugou” you say, “there’s nothing wrong with knowing who you are are about to go up against. besides, you’re just jealous that he didn’t need to just make a big explosion to get into this school.” you instantly regret saying that the minute bakugou stands up and takes a step towards you.
“kacchan leave them alone!” midoriya stands up and faces bakugou, making him stop where he stands.
“oh calm down love bird” this comment makes you blush again, “i’m not going to hurt them” bakugou places one hand on your desk and faces you once more, “but you if you ever think that you can make comments like that again, i might just change my mind on hurting you. we all know that i am one of the top preforming students in this room. besides, didn’t you rank 15/21 on the last written test?”
now you really are blushing. what he said was true, and it hurt.
“back off kacchan.” states midoriya.
kirishima gets up and places a hand on bakugou’s shoulder, “come on bakugou, sit down before aizawa comes in.”
bakugou stares at you for a few more seconds. his hand on your desk relaxes and his pointer finger starts to tap. he get’s up and turns to face kirishima. while doing so, his hand grazes your shoulder sending shivers down your back.
at that moment, aizawa steps into the room. his sunken eyes scan the room, “take your seats everyone, today we are going over interview etiquette.” bakugou sits down next you and you finally exhale. you cannot understand how midoriya is able to handle bakugou’s comments. then again, they seem to hurt more now than they did before. i guess that is what having a crush does to someone.
during class, you can’t help but feel as is bakugou’s eyes are on you often. you brush it off as a form of intimidation and focus on what aizawa says.
==========================================================
“okay class, go to lunch. once you come back, you will be paired up with the person sitting next to you to practice giving and taking interviews. please don’t be late.” and with that, aizawa grabs his sleeping bag and gets bundled up.
everyone is standing up and rushing out the door, yet you can’t seem to move. the person sitting next to you? you turn and meet bakugou’s gaze. neither of you say anything as he stands up and walks out with kirishima and denki.
“hey [y/n], are you coming?” you turn your head to face midoriya standing by your desk. you snap back into to reality and stand up.
“yes, sorry, just lost in thought.” you say. grabbing your stuff, you start to head towards the door.
once you’re in the hallway, midoriya says, “i’m sorry you have to be paired with bakugou. tell me if he does anything stupid and i will talk to him!”
you chuckle, “it’s okay. i can handle myself.”
and with that, you two go eat lunch without touching the subject again.
===========================================================
once you are back in the classroom, you two sit down laughing and chatting about what you two did over the weekend.
bakugou is the last person in the classroom again. your smile fades as he enters the room and takes his seat.
“okay class, as i said, you are paired with the person sitting next to you. and before you ask, yes kirishima you can join denki and sero as the only group of three.” all three of them burst out laughing in excitement.
“i trust you guys to go find a quiet spot on campus to run these mock interviews. you have the notes, you have the questions, now go.” aizawa says before once again slipping into his sleeping bag.
everyone gets up with their pairs and start heading towards the door. midoriya gives you a sympathetic smile before leaving with uraraka.
“come on already. i want to get this over with.” bakugou says as he stands up and starts walking away without you. you sigh, and follow suite.
you guys find an empty classroom and enter. your heart is pacing now as your thoughts swirl with possibilities of what could happen during this interview. bakugou sits on top of a desk facing towards you. you are unable to move as the thought of being close to him scares you.
“listen, before we begin,” he starts saying, “i want to apologize for my comment on your ranking on the last test.” is he apologizing?
“what? are you- did you just apol-” you start to stutter and a chuckle leaves your lips. it’s quickly cut off by the glare he shoots you.
“yes i am apologizing. can you just accept it? there’s a reason i don’t usually apologize.” he crosses his arms against his chest and you feel a ping of guilt.
you nod, “i accept it.” you two sit in silence for a couple of seconds longer. “will you ever apologize to midoriya?” you ask.
bakugou scoffs, “of course not.”
“and why not?” you start to get irritated.
“he doesn’t deserve one! he has to do so much to be where he is, and he suddenly gets this overly strong quirk, so people just love him? what about those of us who are just naturally smart and strong? i’m better than him!” he starts to become angry and you regret bringing midoriya up.
“but like you said, you’re one of the best preforming in our class. what does he have that you aren’t already better at?” you gain the courage to take a step closer to him. you have always been protective of midoriya, especially with bakugou.
bakugou looks at you without saying anything. he then shakes his head and turns away, “none of your business. can we just start on this stupid interview?” you can hear a slight defensive tone in his voice.
“no. tell me what he has that you don’t already have. you have your whole squad, you always rank in the top 3 on tests, you are physically one of the strongest in the class-”
“he has you!” he yells, slamming both hands on the desk. you stop moving, you stop talking, you stop breathing.
“m-me?”
“yeah, you heard me. what are you? deaf? do you need me to say it again?” but before you truly know what you’re doing, you walk over to him, grab his face, and kiss him. you are currently up against the desk, your body is in between his legs with your arms raised up to hold him. you feel an initial pull of him backing away but not even a second later he leans in and wraps his arms around the small of your back. he scoots to the edge of the desk so your chest is pressed against his torso and he kisses you harder.
one of your hands finds its way up to his blonde locks and the other finds its way down to his chest. you both sit/stand there kissing for a couple more seconds. finally he pulls away.
“[y/n], we really need to-” at that moment the door opens behind you. midoriya is now standing in the doorway looking at his childhood bully and best friend pressed against each other.
“[y/n].. kacchan.. what are you-” he starts to run towards you two, “get off of them kachhan! you bastard!” before he reaches you, you are shoved away by bakugou who is now standing.
“bastard?! deku you’re the bastard!” bakugou raises his fist, sparks start to come off of his hands.
“bakugou! stop!” you rush in between the two and face midoriya. “stop! let’s talk this out!”
midoriya stops in front of you, his face twisted in anger and confusion. bakugou steps behind you so you two are only an inch away from each other.
“what are you doing here midoriya?” you ask.
“uraraka had to leave suddenly so i came to join you two. clearly you guys are a little preoccupied. how long has this been happening, huh?” he looks at you, tears swelling in his eyes, “i have been trying for years... YEARS... to get that idiot” he points at bakugou, “to like me. what do i get in return? insults and bullying and a- a- a brick wall!” you wince, “and i always went to you on the rough nights. you have always been there to tell me to not let it get to me! and why? so you could.. could screw him behind my back?!” you feel a tear slip down.
“i-we- this-”
“this was the first time anything has happened you idiot” bakugou says, stepping beside you, “i haven’t done anything sooner for your stupid ass.” anger starts to raise in his voice. you step back, your emotions starting to overcome you.
“for me?! so you’re telling me that you have liked them and you held back for me?! oh how wonderful! it’s not like you could have been nice to me and then you two can do all kissing you want!”
“guys.. please... stop. i’m sorry midoriya. i don’t know what came over me, bakugou just apologized and admitted his feelings-”
“so you threw yourself onto him, huh?”
“hey! don’t you dare say anything bad towards them.” bakugou takes another step towards midoriya.
“they’re my best friend! not yours! you can’t take the one thing i have!” midoriya stares straight back into bakugou’s eyes. things start to get tense.
“do i not get a say in this?” you spit out.
they both turn towards you, one pair eyes stare at you with hurt, the other anger.
“fine.” they both say, backing off.
“listen, midoriya, i promise this is the first time him and i have even really touched. i’ve liked him for months but did nothing because he hurts you.” bakugou winces at this, “and bakugou, i like you, but this was a one time thing if you can’t be nice to midoriya.” tears are slipping down your cheeks.
bakugou loosens up and faces midoriya, “fine. i’ll follow that as long as you let me take them on a date, idiot.” you scoff, but midoriya just turns to face him.
“so, mr. king explosion murder, how does it feel to know that you have done the ultimate injury to your childhood friend?” both bakugou and you stand there in confusion.
“what are you saying?” you ask.
“i’ll get to you next, but first, i’m interviewing mr. king explosion murder over here.” midoriya says, a small smirk creeps in the corner of his mouth as a tear slips down his cheek.
bakugou lets out a sigh, “you have got to be kidding me.”
“now that’s isn’t an answer, or proper interview etiquette.” midoriya says. you can’t help but let a chuckle out.
you take a step closer to the two. first you give midoriya a hug before turning to bakugou. your heart beats quickens for better reasons.
“well, sir, are you going to answer the question?” a smile spreads across your face. both you and midoriya let out a laugh.
bakugou raises an eyebrow and gives you an annoyed look. you playfully push his shoulder, receiving an eye roll in return. before your hand reaches your side, it is met by bakugou’s hand. you don’t pull away, and your fingers intertwine. you can feel midoriya looking at you, but he says nothing. you know he’s hurt, but he’s always put your feelings into consideration. there will be a lot of talking to do after this, but for now, it’s okay. you face bakugou as he starts to speak.
“well, it actually feels....”
Jealous Bakugo x reader
“Oi dumbass!”
You groaned as you heard the voice call out from behind you. You haven’t left his side for more than two minutes and already he was on your tail.
“Hey, didn’t you hear me squirt?! Don’t ignore me, y/n!”
“Uh...y/n, I think kaachan wants to-“ you cut Midoriya off from stating the very obvious. You knew very well he wanted to talk to you. But after the stunt he pulled yesterday, you were determined to give him the cold shoulder until he gave you a proper apology.
“I know, Deku.” You spoke at a volume that you knew could be heard over Bakugo’s screaming. ”Just ignore him, I’m not in the mood to talk to Pomeranians with anger issues.” You took a glance at said Pomeranian only to see him glaring daggers at both you and the green haired boy.
You inwardly smirked as you turned once more to head into class, an angry boyfriend following soon after. As soon as the three were seated, the explosion hero decided once more to try and get you to talk to him, but was soon silenced when Aizawa entered the room.
“Alright everybody, stop talking. I’ve got a few announcements to make for your next training, so listen up.”
The homeroom teacher’s words fell onto deaf ears, Bakugo’s ears to be exact…All he could think about was the way you leaned on your desk, head resting on your hand as you listened intently to what Aizawa sensei was saying. Your slender legs crossed beneath your desk, your foot tapping away at a beat only you can hear, a stray hair tickled your ear, but you made no move to brush it away. Your soft lips were kept in a straight line, smiling slightly at a joke Kaminari made.
wait…you laughed at that Pikachu’s joke?
A low growl rumbled in his throat, clenching his fists to keep him from acting up in front of their teacher. Fortunately, he finished his announcement, and turned to leave to let the next teacher in. The moment he left, Katsuki sharply turned his head to glare at the blonde, only to see him still making jokes and getting more quiet giggles out of you.
Now THAT…made his blood boil even more. You were HIS! HE’s the one who should be making you laugh, not that short-circuit blondie.
Kaminari must’ve felt the burning at the back of his head because as soon as his eyes met Bakugo’s, all color drained from his face and quickly shut his mouth. Whether it was the tiny explosions blasting in his hands or the daggers he was glaring at his now trembling body, it definitely got his point across too
Stay. Away. From. You.
The ash blonde student smirked as his quirk died down, but it was soon wiped off his face as his eyes met your e/c ones. No longer did they hold the laughter you had a few seconds ago, your lips now turned into a scowl as you glared back at your boyfriend.
Honestly, you couldn’t even wait until after School?
Realizing his mistake, you see him ‘tsk’ and turn his head away from both of you. Thankfully, the new teacher came in and told the class to take out your textbooks. You sighed and shook your head, wondering if it was really a good idea to keep giving him the silent treatment.
Wait…yes…
Yes it was.
As the teacher went over the lesson, your mind wandered to the events that lead up to this. Which, surprisingly, was too much for one day.
Let’s see…
The two of you had decided to go on a date yesterday since it was the weekend and neither of you had and homework. Bakugo even suggested (more like demanded) to meet up at the cafe early to get the best seats in the back. You found it really sweet, even though he practically growled it out thought the phone call.
Still, the morning went without a hitch, you got your favorite drinks, your favorite comfy spot in the back, and even the little dessert that was always sold out when you came by after school. Heck, Bakugo didn’t even make his usual comments about the drinks and treats being too sweet, or too powdery. He even asked you if you had wanted more. Since it was too early for the regular customers coming in, you said yes. You believed that nothing could go wrong today.
Oh boy…why didn’t you knock on wood?
After ordering one more cookie, (to save for later), the two of you wanted to watch the new movie that came out just a few weeks back. You were so excited that, you hadn’t even noticed one of the baristas coming over to your table.
“Here’s your order, hope you enjoy.” You looked away from Katsuki to grab the little paper bag from him, smiling as you said your thanks. He of course smiles back politely. Before he could say another word, Bakugo beat you to it.
“Alright, that’s enough twerp. Quit eyeing my damn date and go back to your job.”
The barista was taken aback and struggled to say a shaky apology. Poor thing looked like he was about to pee himself. He turned back to face you, about to apologize again, but Bakugo’s voice cut through again.
“OI, I SAID BEAT IT KID! Or should I get my point across another way?” Tiny explosions boomed from his outstretched hand. It wasn’t enough to trigger the fire alarms, thank goodness, but was more than enough to send the barista running.
Bakugo, of course, laughed it off and continued to ask what time you two should watch the movie. You looked at him in disbelief.
“Bakugo!”
“What? He was looking at you like a piece of candy. Be more thankful I got him off your back.” He shrugged his shoulders, while continuing to munch on his treat.
“He wasn’t and you know it.” You countered. “Poor guy was just handing me my order. You didn’t have to use your quirk, geez.” You slumped on your seat and crossed your arms as your boyfriend took your tray and dumped out the trash.
“Alright, let’s go. We got a few hours before the movie start, but might as well get going if we wanna buy tickets. We can eat at that buffet restaurant for lunch and then have dinner at my place, how does that sound? I’ll cook.” You sighed and got up from your seat, taking the cookie bag while avoiding Bakugo’s gaze.
“Sure, C’mon.” You glanced up only to see his red eyes widen, before shaking his head and following you out the door.
On the walk to the train station, avoided his gaze even more and turned your head when he got up in your face. The explosion quirked student tried to coax you to get you to talk to him, but you stayed silent. You heard him sigh, then moved to stand in front of you, causing you to crash into his chest.
“Hey! What’s the big id-“
“Oh, now you finally talk.” You blushed and pouted up at him. He bent down to your height with his hands in his pockets. “What’s your issue now, squirt?”  He asked while gently flicking your forehead.
“You were mean to the barista and you didn’t even apologize!”
“Apologize? Seriously? You’re still mad about that?”
“Yes, I’m still mad! You didn’t have to use your quirk back there, and he most certainly WASN’T flirting with me.”
“What’re you saying? Are you actually taking his damn side?!”
“I never said that! I’m just saying you didn’t have to be mean to him!”
You pretty sure both of you were screaming at this point. You had stopped in the middle of the sidewalk, and there’s no doubt that you’ve already attracted the attention of a crowd.
“You can’t tell me who I can and can’t talk to, Bakugo! And you honestly can’t expect me not to talk to boys other than you!”
“Yes I can!”
“No. You. Can’t!”
“I’m your boyfriend, y/n! It’s my job to keep pervs like him away from you. You’re mine!”
“Pervs sure! I can accept that. But NOT friggin polite baristas who was just handing me my order!”
“Damnit, y/n, can’t you STOP with that barista crap?” Katsuki’s eyes were completely full of rage now. “What, do you like him now or somethin? Is that it?”
“WHAT?!” Seriously, where in All Might’s name did he get that from? “No. I don’t! ARGH! Why can’t stop being so controlling?”
“I’ll stop being controlling when YOU stop being a damn brat for once and just do what I tell you?!”
Oh…
That. Was. IT!
Before you could blink, a loud slap was heard, and you felt a slight stinging in your palm. Opening your eyes that you didn’t even know were closed, you saw Bakugo’s head turned to the side, eyes blinking as he let your actions sink in.
You felt a slight guilt in your gut, but you pushed it back down.
“Y/n, I-“
“You can forget about today, Bakugo. I’m going home.” Before you could let him follow, you turned around and threw the paper bag at his face, running fast and as far away from him as possible. You made sure, he didn’t see a single tear roll down your cheek.
You had put your phone on silent the moment you got home, not wanting it to keep dinging while you cried your eyes out.
Who did he think he is anyway? He was right, he is your boyfriend. But that gave him no excuse to say what he did back there. He’s just...just...
“ARRGHHH!” Your screams were muffled by the pillow your were crying on, thankful no one was home today. Needless to say...you really shouldn’t have thrown that cookie at him.
Your thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the lunch bell ringing loudly. You shook your head and blinked away the tears threatening to fall from your eyes.
“Hey y/n, you coming along?” Asked Uraraka.
“You guy go on ahead, I’m gonna do fix some stuff.”
“Alright, see you later!” She waved while walking off with Iida and Deku.
It was a lie, obviously …Since it was lunch time, Maybe...Bakugo would finally give you a proper apo-
He’s gone...
You really should’ve known better. You sighed once more and packed your books, wondering if maybe…it’d be best if you…well…you DID slap his face in the middle of the sidewalk…and threw the cookie at him…and.
“Oi squirt!” You jumped in your seat and quickly grabbed your chest. “Geez, you’re gonna be a future hero, but you’re get scared of me going up in your-“
He stopped talking once he noticed your angry glare once more. Katuski grumbled and rubbed the back of his neck, turning away and avoiding your heated gaze.
“Listen…just….I’m sorry, okay?”
Oh?
“I know…I was a jerk yesterday, and…YES! I didn’t have to say those damn things to the barista…and you.”
OH!
“It was a dumb thing to say and you’re not a brat. You’re not a puppet for me to control either. ” He staggered with his words, his voice almost sounded like it was cracking…but Bakugo still didn’t meet your eyes.
You had to keep yourself from smiling. Guess he had it in him after all. Before you could tell him that he didn’t need to say more, he continued on.
“I was just…Jealous….I hated the fact that other guys were looking at you and making you smile, and that I’M not the one at the receiving end of it.”
“Bakugo-“
“You should be allowed to talk to your other friends…even though they’re not me. And I understand if…if you…
“Baku-“
“IF YOU WANNA BREAK UP WITH ME, THEN I GET IT! I just wanted to apologize for…well….everything…and for the other times I-“
“BAKUGO!”
“WHAT?!”
You pulled at his collar and pulled in him for a kiss, Bakugo freezing for a split second before returning it. He pulled away first.
“W-Wait…why did yo-“
 “You’re forgiven too, hot head.” You finally gave him the smile he loved so much and gave his cheek a quick peck. “And…I’m sorry too for slapping you in the face and throwing the cookie bag at you.” He chuckled, and kissed your forehead.
“It’s fine squirt, I deserved it. I’ll buy you another one next time.”
“Does this mean, you’ll apologize to the barista too?”
“Don’t push it.” He’ll cross that bridge when he gets there….probably.
