Back with the milk (kinda), time to talk about how Niffty fails at being comedic relief.
Niffty is most certainly a character in Hazbin Hotel. She's the main character who has the least amount of screentime in the show. Unsurprising considering the number of characters that were introduced in this mess of a season alone, which is another topic I'll get into on a different day, but today I'll be talking about a possibly non-canon aspect of Niffty. That being she's the comedic relief character.
I'm not entirely sure where this even came from because I haven't seen any statements of Niffty being the comedic relief character from the writers themselves. I've mostly seen people in the fanbase claim she is, but since I'm talking about how she fails in that aspect, I wouldn't mind seeing the proof of the writers themselves saying it.
Comedic relief characters are usually characters who are comedic to relieve the tension of an earlier scene.
This is a pretty great example of a comedic relief character in action.
youtube
After a tense moment of Star Lord promising to kill Gamora if she ever gets captured by Thanos and a possible final kiss between the two, Drax chews loudly on Zarg Nuts in a pretty unexpected way. While delivering some pretty hilarious lines and movements afterwards. This is what a comedic relief character is. They relieve the tension of a previous scene, giving the audience something to laugh at.
And this is where Niffty fails for the most part because of two reasons. The first one is that she doesn't have much screentime. As I said before, she's likely the main character in Hazbin Hotel with the least amount of screentime, and because of that, she doesn't get any prevalent moments where she relieves tension. Is she comedic in some scenes she's featured in? Sure, but just being comedic doesn't always mean a character lightens the mood.
The second reason is that I'm not entirely sure if the writers know how to use comedic relief characters or if they know what comedic relief is. Whenever Niffty does something funny, it's usually in a part of the episode where there's no tension, or she, in fact, makes things worse. Which is the opposite of relief.
For instance, when Niffty stabs through Adam. It was a pretty prevalent moment for Niffty, but it wasn't a tense moment in the slightest because Adam had already been defeated but wasn't killed because Charlie stopped Lucifer from continuing to beat him to a bloody pulp. The situation was already solved by then.
Tumblr media
An example of my second reasoning is when she unintentionally causes problems for Angel Dust in Episode 6. Being under the influence, she runs toward Valentino, letting Angel Dust and Valentino confront each other. Though this did show that Angel Dust has gotten stronger mentally against Valentino, it still caused tension, which is something a comedic relief character isn't supposed to do.
So to pretty much make Niffty more of a comedic relief character, they just need to give her some more damn screentime and actually learn how to place her in a scene where she can ease the tension. In short, they should make her a comedic relief character. Again, I'm not entirely sure if the "comedic relief" thing was just something the fandom came up with or something that the writers actually said. Regardless, her actions just aren't consistent with what she's intended to be, but that could be fixed in the future.
As for..me, uh, I'm back, but not really. This blog was something of a reminder that I'm alive because I've been radio silent for a couple of weeks. Still in college doing college work, but I do have some blogs in drafting. I have seen the latest Helluva Boss teaser, but I don't care about that right now. Anyway, thanks for reading, and I'll see y'all in the next one. Whenever that will be.

Oh, this was a really fun finale. I think shows like this are a very good argument for the idea that some kinds of storytelling just never go out of style.
Obviously, Smith/Bravern's love for Isami, and his respect for him, burns from beyond the grave. Hot enough to resurrect him first as Bravern and then in the final scene of the episode, as himself. I was also so so so fucking happy that Lulu got to contribute to the final final FINAL battle, I was worried she'd get left out.
Speaking of! Verum Vita makes a lot of her brief screentime and I love how she goes from this cool, calm, collected ultimate final threat to psychotically planning to massacre the entire planet to INCREDIBLY annoyed at Bravern continually just being able to overpower her attacks. I liked how literally everyone came back for the finale, even if just to contribute to Bravern's spirit bomb, I think that's a good way of showing where the show's priorities lie. I get that Smith has that whole little bit at the end about how "oh *everyone* who was there that day was a hero", but if I can disagree with the show for a second, that's really not true. Bravern and Lulu are the heroes because they're the SUPER robots. Everyone else is support
I do feel the need to concede that this was not a perfect series, at least not for me personally; some of the humor goes a little over the line for me (although not much of it to be honest), and while I'm mostly over the hoo-rah undertones present in spots, I do still have that little bit of an icky feeling that I get from anything involving the military. Also, hey, damn, Superbia sure got the short end of the stick, huh? Everyone else gets to come back to life but he stays dead, what's up with that? Maybe the idea is that he lives on within Lulu, but if so, the anime doesn't really make that clear.
Anyway, that's all pretty minor stuff, honestly? Other than maaaaybe the Superbia thing. And that's the thing, this *wasn't* a perfect series, but it was quite a good one, and I liked it a lot. If someone said it was an all-timer for them, I would understand completely.
Also, I am NEVER going to get the theme song out of my head.
bang bang ba-bang ba-babababa! Braverrrrrrrrn!

Carmilla has three songs and two of them are the length of a standard anime opening, which is too damn short. Season 2, please give this queen some proper screentime.

Have you heard that there's a TV series about Sasha filming right now for Rossija1? Slated for release before the end of the year, it seems, and called, as it should be, "Alexander I". I just discovered that fact and I'm rather eager to see it; they've got a good track record with period dramas of that kind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alexander and Constantin. Alas, the degree of blondness for both is clearly unsatisfactory, but when it comes to spirit, maybe there is hope?
Oh BOY did I hear about this show??? Yes. I did. You have no idea how conflicted I am.
Because on one hand, finally a goddamn historical tv show that ISNT about Catherine II or Peter I (and it covers the assassination of Paul so he will get a lot of screentime as well!)
But on the other hand… it’s a Russian tv show, how good can it be? I’m praying to all Gods that the script is decent but my biggest problem so far is the casting. How come Ridley Scott cared more about finding an appropriate Alexander I than a series where he’s the main character??
Evgeny Romantsov doesn’t exactly have a great track record as a nuanced actor (he gets leading macho man roles mostly) and I can’t believe they decided to give this… this JOCK a role of a 20 year old Alex in his “sweet angel” era
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was honestly much more impressed with the casting for young Paul I in another series scheduled this year “Paul the first and last” (damn what a name), so I’m also looking forward to that!
Tumblr media
All in all I’m keeping my expectations low because frankly Russia cranking out that many tv shows lately in such a short amount of time can’t be good (and it is all sponsored by ИРИ the infamous Kremlin propagandists, yay) but obviously I’ll be watching it and in my heart of hearts I’ll even hope that it’ll be good

do you have any thoughts about the way thea was handled? ever since nora has been more active on twt (and mentioned the hate thea gets) people have been sort of insistent about Always Having Liked Her Actually and it irks me a lot, because imo people SHOULD be upset at the fact that kevin (who has been abused all his life and has trauma regarding the nest) has a gf who's from that same environment but 1. doesn't seem all that concerned about getting better / helping kevin get better 2. shouts at him in the only scene they're in together 3. isn't even described as a particularly good presence in the extra content explaining their past 4. this is just a horrible cherry on top but she's 5 years older and they met when he was 14 :/// like if anything i think this has a lot to do with nora not having been kind to kevin (which she also recently admitted to) like damn can he get one thing in life that's just good for him. one safe haven. jesus
short answer: i think thea as a character has been done the worst by nora sakavic, and the lack of care she was shown is in line with how all for the game treats its other characters of color.
long answer: most of my thoughts about how thea was handled are less about thea the character itself and more about her throwaway appearance and the overall lack of interest the author had when writing her. thea's a widely hated character for many reasons, not all of them valid, and a big one is that she was shoved into the narrative at one of the very last few chapters and paired up with one of the most important characters with very little thought or effort. we don't get even a hint of her existance before her appearance, and her one scene does not gather her sympathy because what we know of her is that she's an unrepentant raven (arguably the series' most evident villains) and what we see of her is a moment of great anger, that, even if ignorant, mimics the hostility most of the other ravens had towards kevin/the foxes during the trilogy
this is all to say: i don't like the way thea was written, and i think, especially, that it was a bad optic to write a black woman whose only scene is her being hostile towards her love interest. i need you to know that i'm not saying thea was not right to be angry, or that thea should've flown in and nursed kevin's mental health as soon as she could — both because it's out of character and because it's ridiculous —, but i am saying that she was not afforded almost anything as a character, in both terms of humanity and screentime. this is nothing new with how aftg treats its characters of color, and it is very telling that the characters who get the most flack (namely nicky and thea and riko) are the core of the non-white cast. thea and riko are not afforded complexity; nicky is a constantly flamboyant brown man whose only purpose is to wrangle his cousins and deliver friendship-related one liners to neil. this is why nora sakavic's refusal to comment on them grates on me, and why the new wave of adoration for the series with no nuance suffocates all of the real criticism done by fans of color in the last ten years.
and here's a personal answer: thea's future breaks my heart just as much as kevin's does, because she is also a victim of cultist mentality, and she never breaks out of it. i have no doubts in my heart that the nest was cruel to her, and her unflinching loyalty to the ravens until the end saddens me because it is a terrible existence when all is said and done. thea will not play exy forever, and by the time she has to retire, she will be just as miserable as kevin was. i don't know if she'll ever acknowledge how awful the ravens were either to her or to kevin — i don't know if she'll *want* to, because it is hard to do all that work, and it will leave her deeply scarred to realize most of it was not necessary to her sucess —, but i hope she does, and i hope that on that day, she will be able to decide for herself where to go from there.

Irt you post about the archives- Have you read any of the novels? I feel like some of them, like Joey's autobiography, help give a bit more insight to these characters, at least a little.
As for Nathan, I think it's supposed to represent that, unlike Joey, he really was a self made man with good intentions, and that highlights that Wilson was trying to live up to the shadow of his father and instead of being the kind of man his father would have raised, Wilson chose to be as vile as he is.
Memory Joey on the other hand, really is just a representation of this flawed idea people had of the man, only the good parts of Joey that he chose to show. The idealized version of himself that he saw, rather than who he really is. It makes sense to have that contrast there, but he really is just a plot device rather than his own character and it's a shame.
I can't say much for the others, because they feel very lacking. They have a lot of good moments, like the "I'm beautiful." "Always were." scene for example, but outside these moments they feel somewhat empty.
It's unfortunate, because if they had the time, team, and resources, they could have had an incredible story to tell, but limitations with money and staff because of the irl studios layoffs and TheMeatly & Mike Mood making really, really bad choices with their business caused the game to fall short of what it could have been.
we must have read different books because it felt to me like batdr completely ignores book lore
honestly i just feel like the books have been made irrelevant and theyre just kind of telling us stories about these random characters? like adrienne is doing her best to describe these characters but im not gonna lie, as there was some potential to them batdr has been a huge turn off for me for reading anymore (plus that upcoming book is gonna have a yet another completely new character as the main protagonist and im just... bruh how about yall expand upon the characters you already have because this universe is just becoming very messy and full of shallow characters instead of having fewer but interesting ones?? im not against new characters being introduced but they just keep on adding then and then it feels like what we're reading doesn't even matter in the grand scheme of things, that sucks)
sure we get an insight to joey... the only character that actually HAS a lot of complexity and screentime in the games so like yea i like joey and i enjoyed his book but again it felt more like an extra rather than anything that helped expanding the story or the world, i dont really understand their strategy for these...
nathan's and wilson's relation is just uninteresting and shallows wilson's character in my opinion, like what he says to you in game makes out nathan to have been some sort of a horrible father and that'd be kinda interesting and would make wilson a morally grey character
but no he's just a spoiled brat or whatever his archetype is supposed to be and we can throw away the entire symbolism about nathan and bockswell lotsabucks (that cartoon cat from the comics) and the fact that there is supposed to be nathan arch junior and senior making it clear that they changed their minds about the plot just to surprise people (even worse, they ADMIT to doing that in the interview that recently came out... as if it was a good thing ToT) but by doing so they just contradicted clues that existed there before that we could have gotten away from the damn books! like this just makes me not wanna buy any other books anymore because its a clear message that it doesnt fucking matter if we read them, theyre just there to tell us stories about random characters that also wont even appear in the games anyways but we will get 200 more audiologs from other randos we wont care for
again i gotta be sorry for being so negative but im just SO disappointed with batdr and with what the archives had to say
like whatever they are telling their story, its not a sin to be bad and scummy at writing (scummy as in not understanding that youre baiting people into buying extra things for understanding the lore and then making sure you surprise people anyway)
so basically
there is no use for theorising because the message is that they just want to surprise us so if we guess where theyre going they will just change the story no matter how much its gonna suck and contradict what happened before
Tumblr media
i cannot comprehend how meatly sees that as a good thing but i guess thats how he wants to tell his stories and whatever makes them happy man
but i find it incredibly shady when you advertise your game as a mystery to be solved and personally this kills my enjoyment of the franchise

I'm nervous about all of these upcoming dramas that chronicle the life of a female character like legend of jewelry and flourished peony I left like blossoms of adversity could've used more episodes most of the great shows that depict this kind of story like Story of Ming lan and Story of Yanxi palace are 70 plus episodes because you need the room to slowly build up your story and characters but now every cdrama has to be 40 eps or less and that's really not how you do art you can't just confine every single story into a specific number of episodes the writing/pace/development will always suffer
I think we are right to be very concerned about dramas already filmed that now have to be edited down to 40 episodes. When done with due care, I think they can still be very worth watching (it's the supporting characters that will suffer but likely not the story of the female lead; they'll slice down the secondary couple and SML.) But if the production team isn't preoccupied with quality and/or isn't given the budget for a good editor to invest the time to get it right... 🙈
For the dramas not yet filmed, I honestly am fairly confident. Competent directors and screenwriters can certainly draw on their creativity to tell a full & satisfying story in 40 forty-five minute episodes. We have seen how cdrama artists can still flourish despite constraints. Short dramas like Butterflied Lover and Provoke, which created compelling stories with little budget & screentime. Censored queer dramas that tell a second story between the lines.
There are 2 common set ups for tv production:
[1] the multi season storytelling style that plots a portion of the story bit by bit. You get the beginning arc - maybe the story continues; maybe it's cancelled. You get another arc - maybe the story continues; maybe a major actor doesn't renew so their character suddenly is eliminated from the narrative; maybe it's cancelled. You get another arc... You maybe get an ending?? (prayers up!) Which often doesn't resemble the writer's original vision, because of casting changes or because another show aired their idea first, or because the writer's opinion on a ship or character changed due to interactions with fans (positive or negative).
[2] a complete story is filmed, with a beginning-middle-end, and it's released as a whole 22 or 34 or 40 episodes.
I'll be honest, after many years of experiencing type 1... I am so, so over it. I will take some annoying limitations and a constraint of 40 episodes any damn day if you can deliver me a coherent narrative that delivers an arc that is solidly closed - where I actually get to experience the complete vision. That's my personal preference for how to do art as television.
I think it's wonderful that in the last few years, through kdramas and cdramas, I've been able to enjoy so many complete stories centered around the growth of a strong female character. And I don't take that for granted. So let's think positive, my anon friend. Bring it on!

Hello, can I ask from this ask game :
https://www.tumblr.com/threecheersforinking/677824836625694720/anime-ask-game?source=share
For fandom : Haikyuu, BNHA, ATLA, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
Thanks 🌻
Sorry I took time but lists and ranking are difficult to me lol, and I had 4 different asks about making a TOP 5 so I kinda lost myself into it 😅
Oh my god there's so many fandoms, you're really trying to kill me damn-
Okay okay Imma try not to write to much (<- will probably fail)
HAIKYUU
Favorite Character: (I absolutely HATE that question, why do I have to choose ?!?) I'd say Bokuto Koutarou but I also have 5 others in mind lol
Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: The Tokyo Stage during S2 is my fave because my favorite characters get many screentime together, we see so many different people interact, and it's so fun to enjoy matches without the stress of the competition. I get to support anyone and not feel guilty about it !! Also there's Tsukki's character development, and there's my favorite scene in the anime (the Oya Oya Oya), and they all learn and work on new techniques and it's so cool !! (<- already rambling too much)
Character I Think is Underrated: Maybe Gosshiki ? He's such a baby I love him. I believe Tendou is very much loved so not underrated. Tanaka too. I know people love him but I think he deserves so much more. That man participated in EVERY MATCH, he NEVER got replaced and he doesn't have an ultra special attack and he's not the ace but he's sooooo reliable and cool. He's a caring sempai and a good player and an amazing friend and the only straight ally in a gay world lmaooo We don't appreciate him enough.
Character I Think is Overrated: When I'm not rewatching Haikyuu I think that Hinata and Atsumu are kinda overrated because yeah they're cool but they're not the bests and their characters (I know they're different) aren't the ones I love the most and also I think they're selfish. Then when I rewatches the episode for fun I4m so invested in everything and I just cannot not love them. So, no one is overrated actually.
Favorite Ship/Pairing: HAHA I won't answer that- Alright I will but keep it short. Let's say any popular ship that involves Tsukki, Kuroo, Bokuto, Akaashi and Kenma. Yes even the polyships. Yes. Any popular ship.
Something I Love About the Show/Movie: Everything. (<- only short answer I4m able to give)
BOKU NO HERO ACADEMIA
Oh it's been a while since I've been in that fandom. I lost my hyperfixation 3 years ago and I don't even read the scans anymore. Let's do it anyway, maybe it'd wake some sparkle in me and I'd be able to finish my fanfictions !
Favorite Character: I used to say Present Mic or Bakugo and I'm not sure now. I think Aizawa-sensei is someone safe to say, he'd never not be in my Top 3.
Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: It's been so long, I don't really know
Character I Think is Underrated: Hatsune Mei. I love her and I rarely see people talking about her (or maybe I'm not on the good side of the fandom). And Mina (I know she's loved but not enough)
Character I Think is Overrated: All Might, I don't really like him. Mineta of course, he deserves Hell.
Favorite Ship/Pairing: EraserMic. I didn't write 3 fanfics about those dumbass gay teachers to not put them here.
Something I Love About the Show/Movie: The theme is good : how should we build a society where almost everyone has a superpower ? How do you regulate that ? How do you classify people as heroes, vigilantes and villains ? How do childhood trauma and socioeconomic differences, and traditional cultures play on the development of the superpower and the life of a person ?
AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER
This one is easier because I've already did a fan card about it!
Favorite Character: Zuko. Also Toph.
Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: The Boiling Rock episodes.
Character I Think is Underrated: I don't think there's one ? I just think Avatar Kyoshi is a bit misinterpreted because the fans love exaggerating, but nothing actually bad.
Character I Think is Overrated: Jet maybe. I just feel nothing about him outside the context of him
Favorite Ship/Pairing: Zukka Nation
Something I Love About the Show/Movie : It's just perfect ? Perfect representation of everything ? It shows so many delicate subjects (people -kids- involved in war, sexism, racism, denial, terrorism, propaganda, redemption, trauma) and it's just GOOD. Zuko returns to his abusive family and makes more mistakes. Sokka looks down on women despite living years of his life surrounded by them. Katara steals something because her ego is hurt. Aang hides something to his friends because he has abandonment issues. Toph is.... Toph. And it's so well written and perfect and good.
JUJUTSU KAISEN
I've done this one too but it's still hard to me lmaooo
Favorite Character: Geto Suguru and Gojo Satoru and Choso and Itadori Yuuji and-
Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: Hidden Inventory Arc. The story should have stopped here. We don't need anything more come on it's fine. Everyone's happy and it's fine (episodes 4 and 5 don't exist)
Character I Think is Underrated: Ino Takuma. Protect him.
Character I Think is Overrated: That fucking Naoya Bitch. I learned his in the TOP 20 popularity poll ??? HOW THE FUCK ??????? I literally cannot see his face, it gives me nausea. I hate him so sincerely, I don't even want to think about him.
Favorite Ship/Pairing: You know, I know, we know. The strongest. The one and only. The curse me a little at the end. They're known by many names. Satosugu, Gego, Sugusato, Goge, SaltSugar, whatever you want.
Something I Love About the Show/Movie: It's literally a story about love. It is not a romance anime, but it is about love. The theme comes back so often. Suguru loved his friends and it doomed him. Satoru loved Suguru and became a teacher. Yuuta loved Rika and cursed her. Geto's family loved him. It's all about love and no one could convince me otherwise.

Hi, just being curious, what do you think is the greatest difficulty you’ve faced carrying out the storyline in your ask blogs (aside from potential burnout)?
Is there any time where the asks were not going towards the direction where you’d want them to go, and how did you steer the story back on track?
Do you have any techniques giving out clues or keeping the pace of the ask blog?
[sorry these are a lot. Of questions. It’s just, it’s amazing how you are able to run multiple successful askblogs, and I’m curious how you did it]
OOOH THESE ARE SOME INTERESTING QUESTIONS! really pickin at my old noggin here...
id say probably the most difficult part is like... ok through my tenure ive obviously had some physically taxing moments, moments of people being way too mean, people being way too NICE, people complaining that every single member of a giant ensemble cast doesnt get the exact same amount of screentime etc etc, but id honestly say the hardest part is just. making the medium Work. when i run an ask blog like this, im basically asking people to drive the story forward with no promise of whether their choices even like. Matter. if youre not tethered enough to your asks, it can feel like youre just asking people to put a coin in the slot and letting the story play for another page. you have to play this balancing act of wanting to tell the story you want to tell while also needing peoples' help to get there. thats why an engaging story and endearing characters are so important. i wound up telling people here on my main that y2k would end with a good ending specifically because i got people concerned i genuinely would end it with a Bad End, but still even knowing that people would tune in. so its like. i always have to make sure its Engaging enough. for people to be willing to play this game with me at all. the hardest part of fishing is getting the fish to bite yk.
2. YES ALL THE TIME LOLLLL a lot of the time i will end up either picking an ask from before the topic came up and answer that one, or plant my own decoy ask. basically jingling keys at people HJSSKHASGK. but sometimes even that doesnt work! benrey in y2k has a very touchy complex about his helmet specifically because I DIDNT HAVE SPRITES WITH HIS HAIR. and i thought that his hair was kinda boring compared to what people were probably expecting (its very short and simple i draw his hair like bootleg barney) so i ended up having to answer that little thread by having an explosion and then presenting my own resolution (gordon calm him down :)) i like to think ive gotten better at key jingling though haha. usually the two types of key jingling topics i find work best are either little plot teases or a 'now back to what we were doing' ask, but if you dont want things to advance quite yet, i usually use questions that will elaborate on a character trait or introduce a new character fact
3. dont be me. /j ok actually the thing about this specific medium is like. people will send me asks guessing my twists WAAAAY early on but the thing is i can just. choose not to answer them. hehe. id personally pay attention to how often people are guessing your twists though because like. its BOUND to happen if you lay out clues some people will pick up on them. if theres not a lot of people guessing, then you can lean more into the big sting reveals of like 'NOOOOBODY EXPECTED THIS' but when a lot of people have guessed the twist, i usually make sure to present it in a way that doesnt imply that there was nobody on the right trail or that people got bamboozled. as for the clues themselves. well im about to figure that out myself again! i have some clues i need to lay in bmfe!! dont get discouraged if people pick up on what you thought was really subtle, cos like. literal day 1 of episode 3 someone literally made a powerpoint saying 'LEADING LIGHT IS BACK' and i was like ok i was just on my first crumb DAMN. as for pacing, it doesnt matter if you get the blog done in one month or one year- what does matter is PLANNING. if you know what your goal is, what your landmarks and checkpoints are, youll be able to stagger stuff successfully no matter the length. some of the best-recieved parts of y2kvr were parts i went into the session going 'this is my goal for today' for. the goals dont even have to big, it could even be something as small as like 'get from place a to place b'
SORRY THIS GOT LONG but ty for the question! reflecting on my process is interesting :]

'Deadly' Iconic (literally)
I came across an intriguing post while scrolling through my Twitter—or X, whatever you call it—timeline. The post shows a picture (shown below), with this caption:
Which character is this?
Tumblr media
Since I was in the mood to type a rather long thread at that time, I wrote—or typed—my ass off in my private Twitter account (which only has 4 followers). It was only a week later that I thought, "I probably should have posted it on Tumblr instead," so here you go.
Note: Since I originally posted this on Twitter, the writing was not good (I tend to just typed down whatever I have in mind when on that app), so I edited it to make it more readable.
Well, since I'm still in the after effect of Strangers from Hell, I'd say it's Seo Moonjo. His role is so damn iconic that I, and probably many other watchers, didn't even realize that his screentime was only around an hour... in the whole goddamn series that's about 10 hours long in total. In other words, his screentime was just one-tenth of the whole show, very contrasting to the fact that he was literally the second lead character in said show. What is even more mind blowing is the fact that I only realized how short his screentime was because the actor himself mentioned this, not because I realized it on my own.
To quote, the actor, Lee Dong-wook, said: "I'm not greedy for screentime. I used to be, but when i was playing in Strangers from Hell, I only appear in the show for about an hour in total, but it turns out people like my character so much, and the feedback was so good... Since then, I am never greedy of main character roles anymore and always try to make my own character special, in their own way, instead."
To conclude, he said that it doesn't matter (anymore) to him which role he got to play. In a good show, each character always has their own appeal, and as long as the actor/actress plays the character well, that character will shine no matter how trivial their role in the story is.
I (as a spectator who merely watches movies or dramas and read books then try to analyze them in the most objective way) think that this is very true. A lot of characters in iconic books and shows are dead already in the plot's current time, and are only shown in flashbacks, but they are imprinted on the readers' or watchers' mind more than the living characters do.
A very good example is the character Donquixote "Corazon" Rosinante in the manga (and anime) One Piece. He was already dead long ago and was only shown in Trafalgar Law's childhood flashbacks, but damn i think more than half of the One Piece fandom love him so much, and the other half really like him. (there's even a saying that goes, you are not a human if you hate on two One Piece characters; Corazon (Rosinante's nickname), and Bon Chan.)
Another One Piece character (yes this is the manga I love the most) is "Red Haired" Shanks. He was the father/mentor/role model figure to the main character, Monkey D. Luffy, and he first appeared on the story in Luffy's memory of his childhood.
Since then, he only appeared in like two to three panels (around 10-20 seconds in the anime) for every 100 chapter/episode (I am not even exaggerating), but still, he is actually one of the most iconic and awaited character in the whole manga/anime, which has more than 600 characters in total. He even quite easily places in "Top 10 Most Iconic One Piece Characters" lists no matter who made the list.
This, in it's own way, is quite like what happened with Seo Moonjo's character in Strangers from Hell, who only appeared in one-tenth of the show but at the same time is also the number 1 most iconic and memorable character there.
Anyway, in the same way that Shanks is similar to Seo Moonjo, I think Corazon's character is similar to Jeong Jinman's in A Shop for Killers (also played by Lee Dong-wook). They're both dead characters that only appear now and then through one of the main characters' memory, but they're so iconic that, in Jeong Jinman's case, it sometimes make the watchers forget he's not actually the main character.

Alright, for some reason I actually typed an indepth review of Unhappy Campers because I didn't really have much else to do, so with that out of the way let's get started with the positives!
The Positives
Tumblr media
Alright so now that the positives are out of the way let's get started with the negatives!
The Negatives
The Characters
The characters in this episode were all just infuriatingly insufferable to watch throughout the episode or were just painfully underwhelming. I'm gonna start off with the character I disliked the most in this episode and that's Moxxie.
Moxxie, as I said in a previous post, was honestly stupid, extremely sensitive, and legit wanted the attention of everyone in this episode. They had the clear opportunity to just solve the case and get it done, but Moxxie wants to roleplay with literal kids, wants to be well known, and use his solo mission as some detective game for some fucking reason. He gets mad at Millie just because she's getting the attention he wants where tf did this toxic behavior come from exactly? Moxxie is a hypocrite in this episode and Millie was 100% in the right to tell him off.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah and I almost forgot, they made Moxxie physically weak again. Which I gotta ask why was he struggling against Barbie Wire and how tf did he not kill the human when he was fully capable of fighting and killing demons twice his size just an episode ago? Doesn't seem consistent now, does it?
Tumblr media
Not to mention the writers did another "Moxxie gains confidence arc" AGAIN. Millie tells him to "play to his strengths" literally giving him the same damn advice she gave him IN HARVEST MOON it's just worded differently.
Tumblr media
And for some reason, Moxxie is like a Blitzo dickrider in this episode. Why is Moxxie ecstatic when Blitzo gave him the solo mission? Why was Moxxie down in the dumps when Blitzo called him a disappointment? Moxxie in Season 1 wouldn't take that shit, what the hell happened? They made one of the more sufferable characters in Helluva Boss so insufferable.
Tumblr media
Now onto Millie and this is going to be short. I am glad that Millie's getting a lot of screentime but this entire revelation where she likes being loved and respected because of her physical capabilities comes completely out of nowhere.
Tumblr media
Millie has always been respected for her physical strength especially by Moxxie, but she wasn't this fixated on it. Where did this come from? Why is it that she's obsessed with fame over her physical capabilities? And what's even worse is that her fans don't even like Millie for her personality that much they mainly like her because of her looks and strength. It had no build up and Millie wasn't even affected in the slightest when all of that reputation she garnered was instantly flushed down the drain. It was just meaningless. Now that I think about it, I would appreciate the character arc more if it had some form of build up and Millie would actually reflect and talk about it later on. But I know she probably won't.
Tumblr media
Now onto fucking Barbie Wire. Her screentime in this episode is 3 minutes and 16 seconds and the entire episode is 20 minutes and 18 seconds long excluding the credits. So there was more screentime of Blitzo and everyone he confronts MENTIONING her than there was actually showcasing her.
Tumblr media
Barbie Wire is literally Blitzo but female design wise and disguise wise..she just looks like a human version of Velvette. Tell me you can't design characters without telling me you can't design characters, this is the second new character in a row that shares a physical similarity to a previously made character. I'd get why she looks exactly likes Blitzo but having her human form be extremely similar to Velvette's actual design is lazy as hell.
Tumblr media
Barbie Wire is also a groomer too. I know that the counselor is technically an adult, but Barbie Wire is still using her body to manipulate him and adults are vulnerable to grooming. Plus it's still weird to me due to the age gape, Barbie Wire is in her 30s and the counselor is 18 to 19 years old. I bet you're all wondering how I got this info too, well Viv made a tweet about it. It wasn't stated in the episode that the person Moxxie and Millie were trying to kill was barely an adult leading many people to believe that Barbie Wire was a...cupcake eater.
Tumblr media
Barbie Wire is revealed to hate Blitzo, do we know why? No, we do not and for some reason the writers decided to keep this part ambiguous. When we first saw Verosika Mayday at least it was revealed that she had a reason to hate Blitzo but we don't get that with Barbie Wire for some fucking reason. Overall Barbie Wire is underwhelming but also infuriating, I honestly thought that I could manage to like her going in this episode but it just couldn't work no matter how hard I tried. So we have to wait another couple of months or at most years for Barbie Wire to show up again so then we'd fully know why she hates Blitzo from her perspective.
Tumblr media
Blitzo was honestly the least sufferable character mainly because he didn't have much screentime, I was honestly so happy. But then I realized why is it that Blitzo now wants to see Barbie Wire? The nurse over at the rehab told Blitzo that Barbie Wire checked out of rehab months ago, so why is it that Blitzo didn't visit her prior? He apparently wants to make amends and catch up to her but why? We're not given an explanation or even a reason. He wants to help Barbie Wire, why? How come he doesn't visit Fizzarolli or anyone else he had a past relationship with?
Tumblr media
Blitzo complains to Barbie Wire for not keeping contact with him even though he had opportunities to actually talk to her. Then after he's confronted by Barbie Wire he immediately goes back to being regular old Blitzo. At least in Ozzie's Blitzo actually had some form of guilt, in this episode we don't see how Barbie Wire yelling at Blitzo even affected him all we see him do is just make the sad puppy eyes, that's it. What was the point in all of that if you're just gonna go back to the status quo? 💀
Tumblr media
Anyway, somehow they managed to make all the characters bad or underwhelming. Idk how they achieved both with Barbie Wire, they need a medal for that one.
This episode is a waste of time
This episode in all honesty is a literal waste of time. Nothing has changed aside from the fact that Barbie Wire is out of rehab. You can skip this episode and miss nothing because this episode immediately goes back into the status quo regardless of all of the shit that happened. The only important thing in this episode is that Barbie Wire got out of rehab, but even then we'd know that information from a throwaway line. And what's even more frustrating is that this episode isn't a filler episode, it's a chronological episode with nothing that's relevant to the story.
More fucking questions
This episode as always raises a lot more questions than it does answers. With the main one being if Blitzo can find an Asmodean Crystal in a week then why does he even need the Grimoire? The Asmodean Crystal has more use to them regarding their business and actually gives them human forms. Next question is how come Barbie Wire didn't cover up her tattoos so nobody would find her? How did Blitzo recognize Barbie Wire in her human disguise instantly? Was the counselor aware that Barbie Wire was a demon the entire time? There's just so many questions but no canonical answers.
Tumblr media
Too many plots
This episode juggles around three plots. Moxxie and Millie killing their target, Millie getting famous while Moxxie tries to get famous, and Blitzo finding Barbie Wire. This could've easily been split into two episodes have the Moxxie and Millie plot one episode, reveal that Barbie Wire is the one selling and smuggling the heroin then have the next episode dedicated to Blitzo finding Barbie Wire and trying to talk her out of selling drugs with Barbie Wire revealing why she doesn't like Blitzo throughout the episode.
Tumblr media
But instead the episode just jumps from one scene to the next. Moxxie trying to get famous while also trying to go inside the shed, Millie loving her fame, and Blitzo trying to find Barbie Wire. It's especially apparent when Barbie Wire vs Blitzo and Moxxie is always halted to show Millie's fucking performance. Like holy fucking shit we don't need to see Millie perform, show the important fucking part.
Tumblr media
Barbie Wire is confronted, cuts to Millie using her rizz, then it cuts back to Barbie Wire being confronted.
This is definitely an Adam Neylan episode because it's always the episodes he writes that has these amount of plots in one episode.
The..jokes
This is honestly the last thing I wanted to touch up on because the jokes in this episode are not even funny and honestly disturbing most of the time. I'll name the three worst ones.
The camp is called Camp Ivannakummore and it's a camp filled with preteens and children. Let that sink in.
Tumblr media
Moxxie wants to be famous around kids and starts crying because he isn't even though he's in his 30s. I'm pretty sure that they were doing the "high school nerd trying to be famous" trope, but it doesn't work because Moxxie isn't in the same fucking age range as these kids. It's like if an adult disguised as a teenager tries to go back into their peak high school years by going into some random high school and starts doing some fucking musical.
Tumblr media
This is like the worst joke in this episode by far. Fornication between demons disguised as minors that are also disguised as siblings in front of a crap ton of other minors. What is this, Rick and Morty? Did Dan Harmon write this joke?
Tumblr media
Conclusion
This episode in my opinion is the worst episode to me. The characters weren't likable or just flat-out boring, there were too many plots, and even then it led to nothing in the future, none of the jokes made me laugh or even chuckle, and it was honestly very painful just dragging myself through this episode. Unhappy Campers has all the worst aspects of Helluva Boss in the span of 21 minutes. And it was just very very painful to even sit through. I honestly don't think I would've missed anything if I didn't watch this episode because that's what it feels like, a nothing episode that managed to make me mad.
Anyway, thank you all for reading and I hope you all have a nice day! ❤️

finished reading danmeshi........ what a good series.
thoughts under the cut!
going in based solely on what ive seen i thought my fave would be either kabru or maybe mithrun. little did i know, Sissel,
i say this but i liked the entire cast in some way. still sissel is like............ damn............. the stuff w/laios where he was like :) thanks laios ill make you one of the kingdoms citizens in return :) wa sso.............
HIM WANTING TO FDIN THE KING SO BAD WAS SO!!!!!!!!!!!!
i did relaly like kabru tho. somehow none of the stuff i saw going into prepared me for how like........ idealistic? he was? like he really does want to make things better for the short-lived races and while he's a bit two-faced hes a lot more. nice? than i thought
LMAOOOOOOO ID ALSO SEEN "I WANNA BE YOUR FRIEND" BUT IN CONTEXT IT WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
laios/kabru nation rise up. kabru/mithrun nation i do get it but laios/kabru is so. idk if i fully ship it or not but at the very least kabru>laios makes me fully insane. he wanted to be laios' friend :)
the whole part of him just stuttering furiously trying to make words come out and spitting that out at the end of that killed me. been trying to talk to this guy for ages and just fully fumbles. kabru im obsessed w/you
i also really liked falin despite how little screentime she got. something about "at the very least i want you and my brother to live" really got me. her and marcille are the slightly unhinged lesbian couple of my dreams
speaking of. both marcille/falin adn marcille/laios appealed to me i wont lie to you.LGKHSDLKGHSLG
i dont really have many thoughts.......... i think a lot of danmeshi really speaks for itself as a series and doesnt need a lot of like.......... reflection. also get the sense smarter people than me have done meta. i liked what it had to say about eating and living and death and i think marcille was so good as a character, thematically speaking
laios also. in general i think the cast was just phenomenally well done. probably not something i would make fanworks for except maybe the post-canon kabru/laios content of my dreams but other than that........ nothing..........
oh one more thought. everything that happened w/the winged lion did make me insane. jesus christ. the backstory chapter was sO

Are there any movies or shows out there where T is with a melanated woman? 😂 like damn let some darker skinned ladies be the love intrest. Put my boy with some seasoning! Us dark skinned girls wanna be seen on screen with agua Papi too😭
Ah, your desire is our desire Nonnie! Here's a few I can think of:
1. Wakanda Forever (obviously?! It tops the list so I had to put it here anyway)
2. De Tierra (I hope you know the plot, and I do not take any blame if you decide to watch it 😂 tbh I was very intrigued by the movie, there's so much more than meets the eye)
3. The Motive (he has a significant role, but it's not a lot. His wife is a brown woman)
4. Aquí en la tierra/Here on earth (his wife is brown, but again, they don't have a whole lot of interaction. It's significant enough though)
If you're looking for a proper romantic role of Tenoch with a melanated woman, it's just not there. Speaks volumes about the industry and what they make, or what they "think" the audiences want.
There are other roles where he's with women of color, but either the roles are too short, or the women are white-passing. Not worth making it to this list.
If I missed out on anything, please feel free to add in the comments!
EDIT: as suggested by @scoobydooisadetective, I'm adding Casi Divas to this list. His role was short but cute. He was the boyfriend of a brown woman in this. Very little screentime but cute!

New SV DLC epilogue spoilers below
So I played the entire epilogue today and it was definitely an experience. All the interactions between the main crew and Kieran were amazing, but damn it was both way too short and there just weren't many interactions(and almost none with Carmine) which kinda made the main plot of the epilogue feel a lot more meh than I felt like it should've been? I'd still recommend playing through it, but yeah.
TL;DR gamefreak don't make your first actually engaging main characters only have 20 minutes of sincere screentime before becoming full-time chicken dancers
