body type,, lean? I dont know whether or not i should mention any definite muscles or not,,hmmm

because on one hand, it makes sense for him to have a little bit of lean muscle on him! he needs at least some amount of strength to deal with his transformations,,, but then again maybe all of that strength only comes out because he’s transformed, and isn’t technically in his own body? that would create another interesting dynamic between his human and werewolf counterparts! it would probably act as a good way for him to mentally separate himself from his lycanthropy,, just pretend that it isn’t even you,, but i also feel like that would do more harm than good for his mind? it would probably create some sense of imposter syndrome [if that’s what it’s called],,, BUT THATS A CONVERSATION FOR ANOTHER TIME

i could also see his body being incredibly frail and weak though, too! like the transformations take so much out of him, and his physique is SO strong during those few transformed hours, that his body cannot properly recover from it, making it almost impossible to build up much muscle mass,,,, OOO that would create SUCH an interesting view of his lycanthropy! instead of remus just seeing it as something monstrous and shameful, he’d also associate it with a parasite of some kind! leeching off and affecting his health on a daily basis,, never allowing him a moment of respite to try and forget he isn’t fully human unlike the rest of his friends and peers,, that would make his lycanthropy a MUCH more severe issue than it is already [although it IS still incredibly serious! I dont mean to sound like I'm downplaying it], as it can slowly kill him even when not in transformation!,,,,HMMM there are too many options to choose from!

from a character-depth and angst-lover perspective, i prefer the second option, but from a Remus Lover ™ perspective, the first is probably better^^ poor guy deserves to be somewhat happier :(

besides that one section of his hands that’s always freezing, i feel like rest of his body runs pretty warm! that’s likely attributed to his lycanthropy, though [wolves are incredibly warm animals! especially if you consider their natural habitats and many layers of fur!]

Three completely unrelated questions: ever heard of interactive fiction (parser games like Zork etc), and if you have, what's your opinion on it? Also, you mentioned a Pokemon fanfic ages ago and do you have plans to write that because Pokemon is my obsession and I would read the hell out of a Pokemon story if you wrote one. Also, is Sister from CxC and that Chateau de whatever vampire anime she keeps talking about inspired in any way by the Marquis de Sade?

Question 1: This blog, believe it or not, used to post exclusively about Homestuck, so yes, I have some familiarity with interactive fiction and parser games. I actually knew about Zork long before Homestuck, mainly because when I was 12 I was a huge Nintendo fan who would read books about the history of video games and Zork would always show up sooner or later. Now have I actually played a parser game? No.

In college I took a senior seminar on interactive fiction. This was a very funny course that included the David Cage classic Heavy Rain. I remember the professor bringing in a PlayStation and having us actually play the game; all the students made fun of the terrible voice acting and inhuman characters, and by the end the professor, looking genuinely hurt, said "I thought it was a good story..."

In this class, I wrote a paper that was actually about the original Super Mario Bros, arguing mainly that even in the complete absence of traditional narrative (text, video, etc.) any video game is actually interactive fiction, in which the player's phenomenological experience of the game shapes their understanding of the game's narrative. Consider the way a first time player would play Super Mario Bros, moving tepidly and carefully, stopping to hit every block, and dying frequently, and then compare that to an experience player or a speedrunner who will blaze through stages at full speed, ignoring most obstacles and reaching the end in a few moments. The understanding of who Mario is as a character is significantly different for these two players, and in fact the absence of traditional narrative elements makes this interactivity even more pronounced compared to a game like, say, The Last of Us, where character is much more strongly enforced by the authorial entity via traditional narrative elements.

Some time after I wrote this essay, Dark Souls would get popular and give everyone else the same idea I had, with its "environmental storytelling" that stripped out traditional narrative elements without sacrificing narrative itself. But I think you can see the precursor to Dark Souls' style in a lot of older games.

Question 2: Very odd coincidence, I actually started thinking about that Pokemon fanfic idea again recently, prompted by the ask I got in which I talked about my idea for a professional League of Legends sports story. Since Players stole my thunder in that regard, I started thinking of ways I could put my rather extensive esports knowledge to use for a story, and remembered my old Pokemon fanfic idea.

I always liked the near-future near-utopian world of Pokemon, where there seems to be little or no scarcity and 75% of the populace does nothing except pursue hobbies of interest. I'd like to do a serious exploration of what a world is like that encourages 10 year olds to drop out of school and attempt to become professional sports stars, without verging into edge. This is a world where it's *fine* for 10 year olds to do that, mainly because widespread, versatile, and even skilled Pokemon labor means there's less need for a large and robust human workforce. So what are these pros like, having left home at 10, spending their youths tromping through wilderness, their only significant social interaction being with what are essentially animals? All while training to excel in a competitive sport that requires an encyclopedic breadth of knowledge about all the diverse Pokemon species, movepools, statistical spreads, strategies, etc.? Obviously they're going to be total social weirdos. I think it'd be a great premise for a sports story to focus on a big, international tournament where these utter nerds come down from their mountaintops and are suddenly hoisted up as the exemplars of human society, imbued with instant celebrity despite their inability to function in any social setting.

So, to answer your question, it's back on the table. I'm pretty sure after CQ my next story will be a relatively short horror story set at a prestigious all-girls prep school in New England, but after that anything's possible.

Question 3: Sister's favorite anime, Le Chateau de Diodati, is primarily modeled on Le Portrait de Petit Cossette, a 2004 gothloli OVA directed by Madoka director Akiyuki Shinbo. Petit Cossette isn't hentai itself, but Shinbo was also directing several visually bizarre hentai OVAs around the same time, which I rolled into the Diodati fictional narrative. The name "Diodati" comes from the Villa Diodati, a Swiss manor once used by Lord Byron and the Shelleys, famous for being the location where Mary Shelley first created the story of Frankenstein. Diodati is also an Italian name; the Comtesse's full name, Marie von Diodati, is a nod to the tripartite cultural heritage of Switzerland (French, German, and Italian), and meant to contrast Marc Elmarghichi, who is of Moroccan descent. Sister/the Comtesse's appearance is modeled off Lambdadelta from Umineko and Shinobu Oshino from Monogatari (another Shinbo anime!).

The only work by de Sade I've read is Justine, and while the unabashed degeneracy of that work was in the back of my mind while writing CxC, it never manifested into any explicit or implicit reference. I have something of an aversion to de Sade, not because of anything he wrote, but because one of my least favorite novels, Thomas Pynchon's Vineland, has a horrible pun where a gardening business is called Marquis de Sod.

Took me a while to get back at you, I've been working night shifts recently, and my schedule is a little messed up!

Which brings me to the "mdni" section of your ask: I will always post any of my writing under the cut, and very clearly label anything possibly inappropriate as "mdni". I am approaching my thirties, so some of my posts might be age-appropriate for my peers, yet not for minors.

I also always tag my posts and reblogs, so that things such as MDNI and CWs can be blacklisted.

That aside, I don't have many writing boundaries at all: I always like a challenge, and exploring new dynamics and storylines to better my writing. I did have a past tendency to start multi-chapters and get stuck halfway through, so I'm currently challenging myself to write one-shots/two-parters at most, to learn some restraint 😅

I do have a bit of a squick for Teacher x Student (platonic, "Teacher as a parental figure" is absolutely fine - romantic/sexual, not so much. One of my jobs is indeed teaching, so the idea weirds me out).

Some Snape ships I like are: Snirius, Snupin, Snetunia, Snily (more on the platonic side, but I don't mind it romantically), and I do enjoy writing and reading OCs and Reader ships.

Non-Snape, I also like WolfStar, Lunarry (first OTP I've had in my life), Krumione.

I'm open to just about any other ship, though, these are just ideas!

NASA scientists create black hole jets with supercomputer Leveraging the NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS), NASA Goddard Space Flight Center scientists ran 100 simulations exploring jets—narrow beams of energetic particles—that emerge at nearly light speed from supermassive black holes. These behemoths sit at the centers of active, star-forming galaxies like our own Milky Way galaxy, and can weigh millions to billions of times the mass of the sun. As jets and winds flow out from these active galactic nuclei (AGN), they "regulate the gas in the center of the galaxy and affect things like the star-formation rate and how the gas mixes with the surrounding galactic environment," explained study lead Ryan Tanner, a postdoc in NASA Goddard's X-ray Astrophysics Laboratory. "For our simulations, we focused on less-studied, low-luminosity jets and how they determine the evolution of their host galaxies." Tanner said. He collaborated with X-ray Astrophysics Laboratory astrophysicist Kimberly Weaver on the computational study, which appears in The Astronomical Journal. Observational evidence for jets and other AGN outflows first came from radio telescopes and later NASA and European Space Agency X-ray telescopes. Over the past 30 to 40 years, astronomers including Weaver have pieced together an explanation of their origin by connecting optical, radio, ultraviolet, and X-ray observations (see the next image below). "High-luminosity jets are easier to find because they create massive structures that can be seen in radio observations," Tanner explained. "Low-luminosity jets are challenging to study observationally, so the astronomy community does not understand them as well." Enter NASA supercomputer-enabled simulations. For realistic starting conditions, Tanner and Weaver used the total mass of a hypothetical galaxy about the size of the Milky Way. For the gas distribution and other AGN properties, they looked to spiral galaxies such as NGC 1386, NGC 3079, and NGC 4945. Tanner modified the Athena astrophysical hydrodynamics code to explore the impacts of the jets and gas on each other across 26,000 light-years of space, about half the radius of the Milky Way. From the full set of 100 simulations, the team selected 19—which consumed 800,000 core hours on the NCCS Discover supercomputer—for publication. "Being able to use NASA supercomputing resources allowed us to explore a much larger parameter space than if we had to use more modest resources," Tanner said. "This led to uncovering important relationships that we could not discover with a more limited scope." The simulations uncovered two major properties of low-luminosity jets: • They interact with their host galaxy much more than high-luminosity jets. • They both affect and are affected by the interstellar medium within the galaxy, leading to a greater variety of shapes than high-luminosity jets. "We have demonstrated the method by which the AGN impacts its galaxy and creates the physical features, such as shocks in the interstellar medium, that we have observed for about 30 years," Weaver said. "These results compare well with optical and X-ray observations. I was surprised at how well theory matches observations and addresses longstanding questions I have had about AGN that I studied as a graduate student, like NGC 1386!
